should be. What's the percentage that the Dodgers tickets went up? Guys?
Did you guys see that that Dodger ticket prices skyrocketed
after they acquired show? Hey o Tani, it's it's one
(00:51):
of those deals where you're like, careful what you wish for,
you do in fact get it right. They went up
seventy one percent at the average ticket price at Dodger
Stadium from one hundred and seventy one and sixty seven
cents to two hundred and ninety five dollars two hundred
ninety five dollars a ticket. Damn, Jay, you love the Dodgers.
(01:17):
We do have you know, our sister station A M
five to seventy in LA broadcast to Dodgers, So there
is a Dodger's ticket hookup. How many Dodger games do
you go to on average per year?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Let's see a handful, six to eight.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Six to eight, okay, And how much will that change
with the rising ticket prices?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
I think it'll say relatively the same for the reasons
you pointed out. Otherwise, I can get in otherwise. But
if I'm just a regular paying schmo, I don't know
if I'm dissuaded by the ticket prices. One thing that
Dodger fans have proved is that they're going to show
up in the in the range of like two point
(02:04):
five to three million every year, regardless of these circumstances,
raised in ticket prices, raised in concession. I mean, they
show up. I don't know how they do it. I
think a lot of these families literally go into debt
to watch the Dodgers. Not very smart, but oh I agree.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
I mean that that that was the old Raider fans
in LA used to do the exact same thing. Raider
fans in Oakland, same thing, the same, same exact thing.
So yeah, I just think I think it's going to
be fascinating, fascinating to see exactly what happens with the
(02:44):
Dodgers and the stadium. I'm guessing it's gonna be full.
And look, the demographic may change. You know, it is
a very diverse fan base, right, A high number of
Hispanic fans are Dodger fans as well as white fans,
and there there is there are a lot of Japanese
fans that will grow exponentially. But it'd be interesting to
(03:06):
see what it does to the demo demo when you
change to show Heyo Tani and you add in what
will likely be a well spring of fans from the
Japanese community American born in Japanese born community. Fair to say,
like that's gonna be The interesting part is what happens
to the what happens to diversity, what happens to the
(03:27):
demo once they once they they start the season next year.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
It will be interesting the demo. And as you talk
about demo, I think about the cable package. I'm not
totally familiar with how many years they have left on
Spectrum but that's from the fans perspective, that's kind of
been a nightmare. It's you know, they're charging basically a
premium to watch their team, so that kind of alienated people.
But as I said, it hasn't affected the attendance at
(03:55):
the gate.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Maybe even increase the attendance.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
The Dodgers' contract with Spectrum is a twenty five year contract.
It goes through twenty.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Thirty nine, so it'll be over Son.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, yeah, not so much. That's not so much so Show.
He met with the media yesterday, so too did Dodgers
president Andrew Freeman. He's Freeman said this about why the
Dodgers wanted Otni.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Show is arguably the most talented player who's ever played
this game. He is a player that we have long admired,
and since joining Major League Baseball, he has continued to
improve and sharpen his talents and route to becoming the
most dynamic player in the game. As we went through
this process to get a sense for just how passionate
(04:43):
he is about this game really stood out to us.
You could feel the importance of winning, and we knew
that winning a lot's going to be a really important
thing to him. As he came down to making his
final decision.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Here's show hey through an interpreter.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Show Hey, when you get to Friday and you still
not sure which team you're going to sign with? How
many teams are in consideration then? And what is your
process for making a decision? Are you calling people? Are
you making a pro cons list? And ultimately what was
it that sort of just tipped the scales at the
end that got you here?
Speaker 6 (05:23):
Like I said earlier, I don't really want to talk
about other teams at the state, so I'm want to
kind of shy away from that. But as far as
the reason that why I chose the team, like I
said earlier, there's a lot of reasons. But one thing
that really stands out in my head is when I
had the meeting with the Dodgers, the ownership group, they said,
when they look back at the last ten years, even
(05:45):
though they made the playoffs every single year, one World
Series ring they considered a failure.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
And when I heard that, I.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
Knew that they were all about winning, and that's exactly
how I feel.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
So that's one of the things that stood out.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Said They're all about winning. Now, didn't you say, Jay Stu,
you had a bone to pick with Andrew Freeman.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yeah, like what Shohey just mentioned or is interpreted just
mentioned is one of the problems I have with Andrew Friedman.
You know, we have a press conference every year at
the end of the year to sum up the years, right,
and it's always the same game. They have great regular seasons,
they come up short in the postseason, and they talk
about how incredible their seasons were, and they always refrain
(06:29):
from using the word failure always in those press conferences.
And it's interesting to me that when they were talking
to Otawni, they told him this has been a failure
other than the one COVID twenty twenty year. Those other
years were failure and it tells the fans that you
(06:49):
were not being truthful with us after those seasons. So
which kind of jives with my feeling about Andrew Anyways,
I don't I always feel like he's keeping something from us.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, I you have this love hate thing with Andrew Friedman.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Which it is. It's complicated.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
It is complicated. It is complicated. I like, it's an
amazing and momentous day. He's so part of it is
he doesn't have to answer the questions, you know, in
English himself, but he's very relaxed in front of the
throngs of media. And I look, I'm not a Dodger fan.
(07:28):
I appreciate and respect their dominance, and I love Dodger Stadium,
I love the uniforms. I just can't all of a
sudden hop in and become a Dodger fan. Like that's weak, right,
I'm an Angel fan. But this was like the longest
rumored deal ever. It was supposedly done months ago, and
maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. I don't know. I'm
(07:51):
intrigued by backloading the deal right, deferring all these payments.
I'm intrigued by what the Dodgers did today, going and
getting a very good arm. I'm intrigued by what show
hey looks as just a dh and if in fact
he will pitch when he comes back, and what that
looks like. The whole thing is intriguing. But I should
point out that there's not a player I'm aware of
who signed one of these Carganshuan deals that's really lived
(08:15):
up to it. I mean, Akunya has, but his deal
actually is a terrible deal for him. When you get
kind of further down the line, right, it's like seventeen
million a year, but it is a long, long term
deal that he signed. He signed earlier, Bira, what's your
take as a as an outsider, not a Dodger fan, right,
a Brewer fan. What do you think of show Hey
with the Dodgers.
Speaker 7 (08:36):
I think that right now we feel that the Dodgers
are just loading up on all the talent the Glasnow deal,
Show Hey, there could be more coming down the line
with Yamamoto. So we look at the Dodgers as building
this super team, and I think right now it probably
makes everybody angry. I think actually, when the season comes around,
(08:59):
it will end up being a good thing because there
is a team to follow, There is a team to
watch night in and night out, and when the Dodgers lose,
it will become a story. So that's how I think
that the winds will change in all of this. But
right now I think that there's outside of Dodger fans
a lot of animosity, you know. And I also found
(09:21):
it interesting because the rest of the country isn't privy
to this stuff, but we all live in southern California
and last night's news, the local news, and the local sportscasts.
You wouldn't even have thought that the Angels were in
this state because it's all about the Dodgers. And that's
not a secret that there are more Dodger fans in
this area than there are Angels fans. But in announcing
(09:44):
the Otani signing for the Dodgers, it showed no like
apparent heartbreak for Angel fans. Like, if I can use
where I'm from, like when Brett Favre goes to the Jets,
the newscast in Wiscon the time we're bringing that you know,
press conference of you know, Brett Favre being traded to
(10:05):
the Jets, and you're seeing all that, but it's kind
of like, yeah, Brett Favre is gone. This was just
completely one hundred percent one sided, and I think it
has been ever since the signing. And that's what I
find very interesting is there's no there's no remorse or
hurt or anything for the Angels in losing this. It
(10:25):
was just completely one sided. All Dodgers, Dodgers, Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah, it really was. Part of that is I mean,
the the Angels actually track in La right. It's it's
it is very weird. It's a it's a strange dynamic
for anybody. And the crazy part about it is, and
you guys can test. The Angels draw over three million
people a year, right, I mean even next year with
only Mike Trout, and we'll see how his body holds up.
(10:51):
If they hold on too Mike Trout, it's gonna be
hard to trade him with the back. But even with
just Mike Trout, like, they're gonna draw three million people
a year. But it's just not seen as la, it's
not seen as sexy. It's a very very different.
Speaker 7 (11:02):
The coverage and I don't know a Jason feels about
this would have been the exact same is when the
Lakers got Anthony Davis from the Pelicans. Like the Angels
are being treated like the Pelicans, like we don't care
because this star is coming home and this star is here.
That's just the sense that I gotten, Oh, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yes, And I will add this that I did see
a story where someone quoted Ardi Moreno or got one
of his one of his minions to quote him like, yeah,
we didn't want to pay that much, and and to me,
it's like, really, I don't know if that story needed
to be written. It was it was pretty obvious that
(11:41):
the Angels were fighting a losing battle from the beginning,
and the finances would probably be the end of it.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Well. Also, you know, it's like when you when you've
had a guy and he hasn't signed, and he has
let it be known that he does he wants to win,
and you haven't been winning, you probably have to pay
above whatever the rate is. You got to pay more.
But I think the Dodgers were the fit a long
time ago. I think it makes a lot of sense.
(12:09):
I actually think in truth, sho Hay and his agents
played this really really well. They did because there were
no real leaks up until really the day of, and
all of a sudden, it was Toronto was people trying
to find things out, and clearly they didn't know, and
they didn't know because nobody in the know said anything.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
It was answerful up until yesterday when they are being
asked pointed questions. And maybe the kind of loss and
translation thing worked in Shohey's favor here. But if you
watch the press conference, there were a couple like key
issues that he just did not get involved with. You
(12:52):
heard what he just said about I'm not going to
talk about what the other teams did. And then there's
this whole thing about what kind of a surgery he
had out on his arm, and he says it's not
Tommy John surgery. And then we're like, oh, okay, well
what is it? What happened? You know, I'm not going
to get into that. It's like, I think that it
was masterfully done. From a negotiation standpoint. They cut their
(13:14):
mouth shut and they really didn't answer many questions yesterday.
It was it was pretty masterful.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Yeah, the whole thing was in the say just enough
to get quoted, but not enough to expose, Like that's
what they've done. Okay, we got a lot to get
to still this hour the show is brought to by
Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes fuddling easy and affordable, getting a
multi policy discount by combining your motorcycle, rvybod ATV and more.
He protect you one place, but I don't say Progressive
(13:41):
dot com. By the way, Dave Roberts, who many people
wanted to run out of town, not just because of
the Dodgers' performances in the postseason the last two years,
but also because he let the count of the bag
that they talked to show Heyo, Tonny, you weren't supposed
to do that. Here's Dave Roberts on Dan Patrick today.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Pitching's off the table this year.
Speaker 7 (13:59):
What position is show Hay going to be playing? Do
you think on a regular.
Speaker 8 (14:03):
Basis, it's two initials, two letters D. So he's going
to DH and you know he's taking drice wings now
and his goal is to be ready by opening day
and so you know, I hope that holds, but you
know he's going to be ready when he's going to
be ready, and then he's going to start taking some
(14:24):
soft toss and things like that. But this guy is
so uber competitive Dan, and that's one thing that you know,
the humility is there, you know, the talents there, but
I really didn't appreciate, you know, the real drive. And
I saw that documentary that he had and how thoughtfully
he was. So he'll be ready at some point as
(14:45):
far as hitting, and then the pitching is going to
be picked up next year.
Speaker 9 (14:48):
You're planning on him being a two way player after
this year.
Speaker 8 (14:53):
Absolutely, And you know there was even a little talk
with Showhy about, you know, come September when he can
pick up a baseball and throw, would he be open
to taking some balls out there in the left field
and he said, it's it works and my arm fields. Okay,
you know, I'm open to it. So we'll see. But
we got a lot of time before we get to
that point.
Speaker 1 (15:15):

It Progressive dot Com. Let's get to the picks. I
(15:55):
won't winner.
Speaker 10 (15:56):
Well, we got it by fl five College five on
Three's five for five with Doug Gottlieb.
Speaker 9 (16:05):
Let's go five.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
All right, the Doug gotta leave show, Fox Boys Radio. Uh,
these games will be well something. Let's go five College.
It's not going to be easy. I promise you that
because these Bowl games coming up. Tricky, tricky, tricky, Jacksonville
State takes on the University of Losiana. Raising Cajun's playing
(16:32):
this bowl. I think, like seven the last nine years,
they're over it. Jackson State the late replacement because they
needed they need a team. But in the who wants
it more? I like Jackson State two and a half
point favorite. You know what, give me Jackson State? Why not?
Speaker 8 (16:50):
Right?
Speaker 1 (16:52):
All right? Give me Jackson State to cover the two
and a half. Also, we got app State taking on
Miami of Ohio, Miami Ohio Cradle of Coaches. They won
their last five games of the year, only two losses,
won to Toledo Arrival and to Miami Florida AB State.
(17:16):
Of course we've seen them pull off big time upsets.
They lost to Troy their last game of the season.
Did had a great win over James Madison. Remember James Madison. Right,
they're doing in basketball too. App State's record is inferior,
their team is not. Give me app State, who's a
six and a half point favorite to win and to
cover UCLA. Well, they got transfers galore, They had a
(17:40):
Boise State had this late surge after fire and their
coach to get into a bowl game. This is one
I think Boise State cares more about Boise is a
five and a half point favorite. It's played in so far.
Give me the Broncos straight up to beat the Bruins.
The Broncos straight up to beat the Bruins. Got two
(18:01):
more for you. New Mexico State taking on Fresno State.
This one's in the New Mexico Bowl. You're like, wait,
it's being played in Albuquerque and they're coming in from
Las Cruces. They are, they are well And if you
want to know how this team did against New Mexico
on the road, they won twenty seven to seventeen. Of course,
New Mexico end up firing their head coach. But this
(18:21):
is a New Mexico State team which, up until they
lost the Liberty was red red hot as opposed to
Fresno who had injuries and fell apart at the end
of the year. Give me New Mexico State to win
and to cover. Last pick, cal texas Tech over under
is fifty eight. You know what, gimme cal is the
(18:44):
three and a half point dog game means more to them.
They do have three quarterbacks. Two are going to be
in the portal, but the backup is going to stay
on the team before he puts his name in the portal.
I'll take Cal for the upset. Let's go to the NFL,
shall we? Of course? The NFL games start on Saturday. Saturday,
Minnesota is going to start a rookie quarterback and suddenly
(19:05):
Josh Dobbs is the third string quarterback. How do I
think that'll work out? Not well, especially considering you know,
excuse me, Nick, Nick Mullens is gi me the starter.
My bad, They're gonna have a rookie behind him. Nick
Mullins knows the system and they have they have Justin
Jefferson back. But I mean, how do you deny what
they've been able to do in Cincinnati at Jacksonville against
(19:28):
the Colts. Now they take on the Vikings at home.
I like the Bengals, who are three point favorites to
win and to cover, really really do Pittsburgh taking on
Indy Indy playing at home. Indy's a point and a
half favorite against the Pittsburgh Steelers is an Indie team
coming off a road loss to the Bengals. They had
a road win over the Titans home win over the
(19:49):
over the Buccaneers. Gardner Minshew's done a really, really nice job.
As opposed to whatever the heck Pittsburgh's doing. I just
I don't think Pittsburgh's that good. Give me the Colts
and the point and half. Let's go to Sunday. Uh
this pick I like a great deal. Kansas City is
(20:10):
an eight point favorite against doing the Patriots eight point favorite,
and the Patriots suddenly last week had a little bit
of an offense with the with Blakes with Zappi right
this after scoring six, seven and zero points in the
three previous weeks, you still think Kansasity's a bit of
a mess. I'm gonna take New England to cover the
(20:32):
eight point spread. Yep, taking New England to cover the
eight point spread. Atlanta's taken on Carolina does look like
Atlanta's not gonna make a coaching change. I think they
win this game. They covered the three points. Give me
the a t L and the final pick. Baltimore taken
on Jacksonville. I'm gonna you know what I'm gonna do. Hmm.
(20:58):
The Ravens ring second yards allowed, second in points and
lead the league with forty nine sacks. So they let
you run up and down the field. They don't let
you to score in the red zone. Trevor Lawrence. I
think he pulls out the upset here, Lawrence, the Jaguars
right at home. They're a three point dog. Gimme Jacksonville
on the money line. Those are the picks.
Speaker 10 (21:21):
Five on three three there it is five NFL. Let's
go five college five for five with Doug Gottlieb.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Boo Stug Gottlibs show here on Fox Sports Radio. Can
you recall we did this we did this earlier in
the week right where we talked about backup quarterbacks who
went on a run. Can you guys recall a game
that bad in the NFL? I mean, like, look, the
Dolphins won against the Broncos. It was seventy, but it
(21:53):
was really a bunch of it was scored late, right
forty nine to nothing at halftime, like on a standalone game.
I'd never seen anything like that. I've literally never seen
anything like that.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
Yeah, I don't remember either. And it got me thinking
going back to you know what Jay Stule likes to
hit on, and it's the quality of the NFL. And
I mean we're in week fifteen now, We're just started
week fifteen. So if three more weeks with this for
I know that the the graphics dug and the playoff
pictures say that all these teams are still in the hunt,
(22:26):
and technically they are, but I mean, it's not only
been mediocre play from mediocre teams. Like I just, I
don't know, I don't know what you do to try
to correct this, because expanding the playoffs just seems like
it's now diluted the playoff field. Of course, yeah, it was,
just I mean, think about it, like the Chargers entering
(22:47):
the night and while they may not have had much
of a chance, we're still two games out of the
playoff picture. The Raiders are sitting there now at six
and eight, and you know, in the thick of things
in the wild garden, they're the twelve best team in
the AFC right now.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Crazy, crazy, Let's get to the Gambler, shall we. If
you haven't heard the Gambler before, we do it on
a Friday, and what we try and do is we
try and find you one pick we like for the
weekend above all others. All of us, we all have one.
(23:25):
So let me turn you over to Jay Stu who
does his j STU team parlay to start us off.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Well, thank you, Doug. I'll take it from here, you
got to rush to the betting window. This is really fast.
Their early NBA games tonight, there's a couple really good
ones for you. The Pistons are the worst team in basketball,
and I think they take like a twenty some odd
game losing streak into their game tonight against the seventy
(23:54):
six ers. They're getting sixteen points, Doug. I like the Pistons.
I want the pistol and the points tonight. And the
Wizards are getting nine points at home. That's how disregarded
they are. I think I'm gonna take the points of
the Wizards at home over the Pacers. And you know,
(24:15):
just a memo for a Pacers fan, Rick Smith's is
not walking through that door tonight.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
I think the.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Wizards cover Wizards to the Pistons. My favorite Jase two
team parlay tonight.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Ummm, that's a good one. It's a really really good one. Okay,
what about what about you? Dan Byer?
Speaker 7 (24:40):
Oh gosh, I just love looking at the NBA standings
and seeing the Pistons l twenty one in the streak?
How great is that?
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Loose?
Speaker 7 (24:48):
Here's of their last it's hard to do. Yeah it is?
This hers L eighteen amazing all right. Have you ever
heard the phrase what a difference a month makes?
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (25:04):
Yes, I think we all have. Well, what a difference
less than a month makes? The New York Jets go
to Miami as a nine and a half point dog
to the Miami Dolphins. Much different outcome this time than
what we saw on Black Friday. I think the Dolphins reeling.
We don't know Tyreek Hill's status. The Jets seem to
be rejuvenated by putting Zach Wilson back in the lineup,
(25:26):
and I think that their defense will take offense to
what happened on Black Friday the first time. I like
the Jets to cover against the Dolphins Sunday afternoon in
South Florida.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Prefet?
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Wow?
Speaker 7 (25:41):
Is that what you just called me right now?
Speaker 1 (25:43):
I'm sorry, Loraina, I didn't see you back there.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
I like the Lions to cover against the Broncos. That
was my prefet.
Speaker 11 (25:54):
You didn't say Cowboys. But no, today, I actually I
was gonna.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
I know this is weird.
Speaker 11 (26:01):
I'm going for my Lakers tonight. I think they're gonna
do really well, and I think they have to because
they just won their mid season tournament thingy mgiggy.
Speaker 7 (26:09):
Sorry, I love it, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Didn't they just play the Spurs?
Speaker 1 (26:14):
They did, and they play them again, so weird. I
guess it's like one of those San Antonio. So far
you're like, you, guys, we'll just stay and get this
thing done, like eh, whatever.
Speaker 7 (26:22):
I believe the win totals for the Spurs were somewhere
around thirty one or thirty three. They're not getting there,
and so yeah, so far it's at three.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Easy bet there, right, easy, easy bet? Okay, my turn correct. Yes,
you know, it's actually a great college basketball weekend because
you're coming off a finals week, so they have a
lot of these teams that are, you know, chopping at
the bit. But oftentimes you get wonky outcomes on these
(26:55):
games because teams have barely practiced together for a week.
Because kids do take life now, there's a lot more
online classes being taken now than ever before. So you
got to take account with a grain of salt and
be like, m but uh, I got one for you.
This one's kind of too easy. Northwestern just lost to
Chicago State. You're like, yikes, it's a Northwestern team that
(27:18):
had won three in a row after beaten Purdue in
overtime at home. They lost the Missippi States Talent but losing
to Chicago State. Wow. So they take on De Paul.
To Paul just beat Louisville, but before that they had
lost five in a row. I think this is a
right in the ship game for Northwestern. Northwestern wins. Northwestern
coverage to Paul is not any good, That is my pick. Everybody.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Oh, no windfall.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
No win, No when come on the raina and you
never down your money when.
Speaker 8 (27:57):
You're sitting that for cows?
Speaker 7 (28:02):
Whatever are you have?
Speaker 1 (28:09):
You? Have you gone any Christmas movies yet? Are you?
Speaker 12 (28:12):
What?
Speaker 1 (28:12):
What do you got with? Because I know you got
an NFL. Look listen, you want to work on Sundays,
you got NFL on Saturdays. We got a Christmas we tonight?
What are you doing?
Speaker 7 (28:21):
No, no, Chris, I don't really watch movies. No, not
at all. I got a kid that's sick at home
and a wife that's sick at home.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
So yeah, so it's a good time for a movie.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
Soup, Yeah, soup. No, it's not gonna happen, not happening
at all. I have no idea, honestly, don't have any plans,
don't have any expectations. Probably watching Dinosaurs tonight. That's probably
or Blue one of the two.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Okay, uh, what about what about you there, Jase?
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Do you know what movie I'm looking forward to seeing.
It's the.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Cinema adaptation of the Boys in the Boat. The Boys
in the Boat is a best selling non fiction boat
about our our crew team. I think it was in
the thirties, Boys in the Boat, and George Clooney directed it.
I have a feeling he's gonna do a good.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
Job with that.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
I love the book, I love the message about team
and leadership and whatnot. I'm looking forward to seeing that
movie at some point. But this weekend I need to
watch Diehard two.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Oh yeah, yeah, NX skywalk NX Skywalkers you need to
need to know.
Speaker 10 (29:29):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 8 (29:37):
One.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
On the play clock, here's the snap.
Speaker 12 (29:39):
He's gonna throw lobs at near side looking for Meyers.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
To Toby Boys touchdown.
Speaker 12 (29:47):
He laid out of the goal line. He went completely
hoarzo and he made the ground. It's twenty nothing Raiders
in the first quarter. Has the clock hit zero? The
Raiders walk on to a agent field and set the
franchise record sixty three points tonight in their largest ever
(30:09):
win over the Chargers, sixty three twenty one.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
That is our progressive play of the day. Progressives making
things even easier. They'll help you unto your home in
car insurance.
Speaker 8 (30:25):
Together.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
You can say on both of them, more progressive dot
com or call one eight hundred progressive. It's a day,
got Limb show here on Fox Sports Radio. We got
a ton metric ton to get to. Let's up, by
the way, that's a calling the Raiders Nation Radio ninety two,
(30:46):
ninety twenty AM. Raiders beat the Chargers sixty three twenty one.
They meeting them so bad. Brandon Staley, head coach, and
Tom Telesco, the general manager of the Chargers, both fired
earlier today. Let's get to the press, the press, Yeah, Bud,
what he got, Doug.
Speaker 7 (31:05):
We talked about shoe Hey Otani signing with the Dodgers
and him meeting with the media. Yesterday. Jeff Passen had
this piece on ESPN revealing that the Dodgers in their
meeting in one of their meetings with Otani, played a
message from the late Kobe Bryant to filmed the message
back in twenty seventeen of Kobe trying to convince show
(31:25):
Hey to sign with the Dodgers. Back then, the Dodgers
used that played it in a meeting when they met
with Shotani over the last couple of weeks, with Kobe
saying in it basically there's no better place in the
world to win than Los Angeles and no better team
in baseball to win with than the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Wow, the ultimate closers.
Speaker 7 (31:45):
The mama, that's who Apparently what the case was, uh
for sho Heyo Tani. So it's kind of an interesting.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Supposedly he was a Kobe fan growing up.
Speaker 7 (31:57):
Yeah, yeah, that's that seems to be the case. John
Moranth is going to be back for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Will transition from baseball to the NBA. What better way
to do it. John Morant's going to come back from
his suspension on Tuesday. Grizzly still have two more games
to play before he comes back from the twenty five
game ban. But y'all did speak reporters to to reporters
today in advance of his return to the courts.
Speaker 9 (32:19):
I wish the game was just earlier and there's me
talking to y'all afterwards. Honestly, but I can say it's
been you know, a while, but it kind of, you know,
went by fast.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
I feel like, like I said.
Speaker 9 (32:31):
Earlier, what helped me is, you know, being around the guys,
you know, as much as I could be. What kind
of you know helped me through this and helped this,
you know, suspension go by fast. I've been counted down
to days and you know myself, I wake up every
day and be like, yeah, you one day close.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
It was John Morant's early dmarrant. I'm excited to see
him play. I hope he gets his stuff together because
he's a super talented player. He's fun to watch.
Speaker 7 (32:53):
He basically could have gotten an Advent calendar and for
each game the Grizzlies played, opened it up and had
a piece of chart Clinton. He would have been one
short because there's only twenty four in the Advent calendar,
but could have done that for John Morant. Grizzlies I
believe have the Rockets later on tonight that at Oklahoma City,
and he'll return in New Orleans in a game on TNT.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
I have just a quick quick quiz for you guys, Doug,
if you had to guess how would Jahn Morant do
in his first game?
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Just give me, give me a line score.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
A line score. I'm gonna go with seventeen points, eight assists,
a couple of steels, couple rebounds, doesn't shoot the ball great, damn?
Speaker 3 (33:38):
What do you think?
Speaker 7 (33:39):
Wow, gush, Doug is right down the alley. I was
going nineteen points on six of eighteen shooting. That's what
I was going to say.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Now, now, if somebody put a gun to your head
with the.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
What if I put a gun to your head?
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Yeah, the line was really really good. I don't know
if you need to repeat it, do you guys? But
I guess anything we're saying as we're saying.
Speaker 7 (33:59):
To very very good. They asked him if he was excited,
and he was like, jaw, you gotta repeat that, jaw.
He said, it's like, yeah, guys, that's what he was doing.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
It's been sonny, And the problem was was so sunny
last year in Memphis. He thought sons out, guns out
meant something completely different.
Speaker 7 (34:25):
Jeez, gosh, Doug, that's that's that's important taste. That's I mean,
you know Jay Stews is online, No, just kidding. Darryl
Morey's got a contract extension in Philadelphia twenty seventh through
the twenty seven twenty eighth season. He's sticking around as
the pres of basketball operations.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
So weird, right, comes in supposed to make that, supposed
to be the guy that helped did James Harden? James
Harden it's bad in the playoffs. Then James Harden turns
on him, calls him a liar, and takes trade James
Harden and he gets an extension.
Speaker 7 (34:57):
Okay, maybe it's worth it. They got rial of James Harden. Yeah,
in the end, yeah, that it could be worth everything
for the Philadelphia seventy six ers. All right, Now on
to some football news. The Chargers today firing at coach
Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. Also defensive run
(35:18):
game coordinator Jay Rogers out of a job in La.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Yeah, I mean you can't. I mean the team quit
on them last night. So it is interesting. I actually
get why you make an outside linebacker coach your head coach,
because then it doesn't change your play color on offense.
Does it makes sense?
Speaker 7 (35:39):
Yeah? Well you know Bisacia and he even took over
for the Raiders. They kept their coordinators in place, and
he just moved up from special teams bless would Kellen
Moore want that? You know, even if they were.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
I mean, I think Kellen Moore wants the job. I
don't think he wants the interim job.
Speaker 7 (35:58):
Oh yeah, but he's not going to get the job.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
We know that.
Speaker 7 (36:03):
I would be shocked.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Would I would be surprised as well? It would not
be shocked. Would not be.
Speaker 7 (36:09):
Shocked new GM comes in and keeps the offensive coordinator
from the listen.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
I agree, but Kelli Moore's respect around the league, and
we'll see. I'm generally agree with you, but I will
never say never, especially when you have a guy in
house justin Herbert will have at least some form of
say in who the head coaches, and if Herbert has
a great relationship with him, it's not out of the
I mean, do you really want Herbert with another offensive coordinator?
(36:35):
I mean, what four or five?
Speaker 8 (36:37):
So far?
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Crazy?
Speaker 7 (36:39):
In other news in the NFL, Tyreek kill a question
mark for the Dolphins against the Jets on Sunday. Again,
my gambler pick like the Jets to cover. It's got
that ankle injury suffered on Monday in a tackle that
will likely be banned of this offseason.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
What was it the hip drop tackle? Yeah, hip drought tackle,
hip droc and yeah, I mean like look, Tyree Hill
to me is the is the most dynamic player in
the league. Does he win the MVP? Probably not, but
he is an absolute game changer.
Speaker 7 (37:09):
And finally, Doug Texas transfer quarterback Malik Murphy said to
visit Duke Baylor and Oregon State as possible destinations as
he's in the transfer portal. Of course he backed up
quin yours, but then Texas already has the air apparent
in Arch Manning. So that's why Malik Murphy's in the
portal looking at it.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
And you know, based upon the ruling earlier this week,
you know, he could transfer again next year if it
doesn't work out. Maybe that's why he's going to Oregon State.
I mean, that's what happened this year.
Speaker 7 (37:38):
That's the press that get out there and press that
was the press.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
All right. Check out our podcast just typing down Doug
Gotlie wherever we download podcast. There's a new one at
the top of the hour. This is the Doug Gotlip Show.
Have a great weekend. Fox Sports Radio
