(00:25):
You ever wanted to try an Olympic at our Paralympic sport?
Try fencing. It's fast, the safe, it's easy to start,
try and find a beginning of class. Hear you at
USA Fencing dot org slash try Fencing. That's USA Fencing
dot org slash try Fencing. Well, we got a heck
of an hour for you. We got the Gambler upcoming.
That's where we make a pick that you can run
to the window with. And then we have Jared Smith
(00:46):
who's the professional and you can hear him on Fox
Sports Radio tomorrow morning making his own picks. We have
just I think an outstanding show for you, plus the
podcast that follows. Download that podcast whenever the show is completed. Okay,
I wanted to get to this because I think it's
(01:07):
a really smart way of discussing things. I know, Manci,
you didn't like it, but I do think it fits here. Right.
It fits in that there's some similarities between the Luca
trade and the Micah Parsons trade. Right that Luca has
(01:32):
had a great playoff run, took his team to the
NBA Finals, But the fear was, hey, if you signed
him to one of these supermax deals three hundred plus
million dollars, he hadn't been in shape and he was
not motivated to get in any better shape. Then you
go to Michah Parsons and what we've heard is that
there was some sort of deal that was agreed to
(01:54):
that it wasn't. Then it got to his agent, who
wasn't part of it, and then the whole thing blew up.
And now you're hearing there's off the field stuff like, look,
he love he likes football, maybe loves football, but he
doesn't live football. And oh yeah, by the way, the podcast,
the need for attention sometimes he's distracted in meetings. That's
(02:15):
an issue. And I think when you hear Jerry Jones
say it it listen, it's a smart trade if it
was too expensive and not worth it. Right, this is
Khalil Mack with the Oakland Raiders all over again. If
that's really the plan. Right, If the plan is, Hey,
(02:35):
now we got two first round picks and we're not
gonna pay forty or forty five million dollars a year
for one defensive player. We can use that money smartly.
Plus we can get some first round draft picks, or
maybe those first round draft picks become multiple seconds or
thirds or whatever. All those things are great, All those
things make sense. But if you're telling us you're a
(02:57):
better team and you actually believe it, that is that
there's something bigger at stake there, uh, in terms of
culturally that you just could not get over with my
cap parsons. And I actually believe some of that to
be true. But if that's true, why was there, Hey,
we had an agreement for you know, why was that
(03:21):
the discussion that we had previous to only yesterday saying
they were going to listen to some trade some trade talk. Look,
the comparison is very very simple. Two guys that you
can you can argue how much you love them, but
you'd love to have them on your team because they're
two of the absolute best in their sport at what
(03:42):
they do. Fair, of course, it's fair, you know. And
Luca's deal constantly complaining with officials that bothered some people.
Has to have the ball in his hands, that bothers
some people. And the big part was he was never
really in great shape. Okay, all that's fair. And you know,
(04:05):
as much as people will say, you can never I've
hurt months he said, you can never get over that trade.
We'll see I win to have traded Luca. But I
also don't know how bad it was with his attitude
when he's asked about losing weight, or how much having
his people around hurt the culture of the place. Again,
(04:27):
all things that we have heard, we don't know the
answer to. So what does it mean for the for
the Packers? Remember the Packers are a team that have
a bunch of young guys, only Jordan Love making a
killing financially. Now you're bringing in another young guy, but
a guy who's gotten seriously paid. How does that sit
(04:48):
with a young locker room? You know, you have what
they believe is an elite quarterback under contract, and now
you have what everybody believes in an elite defensive end
under contract. Let's see how it all works. See how
it all works one in terms of what you can
do financially with that salary cap number to what you
(05:10):
do with the imbalance of what he makes versus other
people on defense. And three, I don't think he's a
brash personality, but he's definitely not shy. And his platforms
like his podcasts. Who you had Jordan lev on sometimes
that can bring unneeded attention. Who knows that better than me? Nobody, nobody.
(05:31):
But it was a need base trade. It's not like
it was a vanity trade. They didn't just do it
because it looked good. They needed him, They need pass
rush and he's elite, and they have money to spend
because they have so many young guys who are still
in their first contract. JAYSETU, did I miss anything in
the comparison to the.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Two other than one big thing? Okay? They both played
in Dallas, and there are Dallas fans waking up this
morning who had Luka Doncic six months ago and Michael
Parsons and now you have neither. Two are a dynamic
playmaking once in a generation people. So you feel for
(06:11):
the city of Dallas or anybody who follows those two teams.
And I think that's why you've seen the comparison over
the last eighteen to twenty four hours, that it's a
real gut punch to that city's fan base.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
I mean, when the Cowboys are a huge they have
a huge fan base that we like to make fun
of often, but it is gigantic and it is national.
But I don't know if people feel bad for them.
I really don't. I don't. I don't know the fact
that they both happened in Dallas is You're right, it
(06:51):
is very very interesting, very interesting what it means again,
I don't think there's a connection between the two other
than they both happened to play in Dallas. So that's
that's how it went down, right, I mean, just again,
like I don't think it's any well, they're about culture,
were about culture. I honestly think it's one of the
(07:13):
world's great coincidences. But it's definitely a coincidence that I
agree with you worth mentioning, and I probably glossed over.
That's my mistake, right, I glossed over thinking everybody knew
that their Dala in Dallas, everybody, But there is a
point there where if Michael Parsons was just not going
(07:34):
to resign, they he did the right thing. I mean,
that's the other part to it, which is how can
you explain the inexplicable and how can you explain Jerry, who,
by the way, kept calling him Michael?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah, what's behind that?
Speaker 1 (07:51):
I don't think it was intentional? But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Is that not exceptionally? Is that not very dismissive and
lacking respect? And Jerry knows that and he keeps doing
it on purpose?
Speaker 1 (08:08):
I don't know if he keeps doing on purpose again,
I don't know. It's it's it's it only lands two ways, right,
Either he's bumping up on sinility and doesn't remember a name,
or he's doing it on purpose. Either one is not good. Now,
(08:28):
there are guys every coach, especially older coaches, older they
do have they get caught up on names. I will give.
But we saw this from Kirk Kirk Cousins right with
the president, Bruce Bruce. Bruce Allen was the president of
the Redskins became football team, became Commanders, and Bruce Allen
(08:52):
called him Kurt Cousins like eight times in an interview
instead of Kirk and if you know older people, they
all have I have an older gentleman on staff. He
can't call it Chipotle, it's Chipotle, It's Chipotle or chip
He just can't do it. It's like when Billy Madison
tried to write Rizzuto. He just can't do it. Just
(09:15):
can't do it.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
I mean, the that's the contradicting thing. You watched the
press conference yesterday that was just so wild. But he
he would make very like concise smart points where he
was on point, and then he would just be kind
of scatterbrain. And maybe that's kind of the the result
of being eighty two years old, and maybe Micah and
Michael is just him being that age. But I couldn't
(09:39):
help also, Doug And if you haven't seen the doc,
then I'll just kind of bring up to speed. But
you know, the biggest point of contention with him and
Jimmy Johnson to this very day is who took credit
for the herschel Walker deal. To this day, that is
the biggest point of contention. They both get very pissed
off when you bring it up. And Jerry Jones to me, well,
(10:03):
I was watching that press conference yesterday, is like Okay,
I'm gonna do a herschel Walker deal of my own
and when it pans out, when it is successful like
that herschel Walker deal was, nobody cannot give me the
credit on this one.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, I mean definitely. It is his team. He is
allowed to do it and if you get in his way,
he'll get rid of you. And we see that now
in politics as well. In politics as well, like if
we're honest with ourselves, the Browns have an owner that
(10:45):
can help make some decisions. I'm sure all of these owners.
I mean, think about the meddling owner and what happened
in New England, right that Belichick want to move on
from Brady and get it to Garoppolo. That's the story.
And Brady went to the owner and was like, dude,
him or me, and they're like, we're gonna get rid
(11:06):
of Garoppolo. So this does happen ego and people want
to claim credit and people having friendships and relationships. This
is all part of sport. It's not simply about you know,
who takes the snap from center and how good they
are throwing a football. That's part of it, but there's
a lot more that goes into it. A lot more.
(11:27):
This is a fascinating snapshot in Dallas sports history. And again,
I don't think Dallas's whole narrative makes sense. I do
think there's a world there where their culture is better
without Micah, But I got to see what they're placing
with and because how many bad apples. Most of the
guys they've had that have had bad track records, and
Dallas a lot of them in defensive linemen. So Michael
(11:51):
Parsons might have some issues with what he says in
a podcast, but he's not a drug guy. He hasn't
been arrested, he hasn't violated women anyway. He's a great
football player. Like the worst thing he does is he
had a disappointing playoffs because they were behind because their
quarterback turned the football over. Oh well.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Live stug Ottleeb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Uh
I think yeah, we get Jared Smith upcoming. Jared Smith's
our Fox Sports Radio betting analyst. He'll join us here
just after we get to Monsey but before we get
to Monsey, well we will get to Monci. We like
(12:40):
to do this every Friday, especially in NFL season college
football season. Everyone has a line that they look at
that just jumps out of them and you need that
kind of nudge from a friend. That's what we provide
with something we call the gambler Ah the game one pick,
(13:02):
one pick. That's it. So all you get one pick
that you want to tell the entire world. Here's how
you make money this weekend. Kids. Let's start with Jason Stewart.
He likes the Jay Stude team parlay. What do you got,
Jase two?
Speaker 2 (13:17):
For today's Jay's two team parlay. You need to run
to the betting window. It's today. It's a two team
parlay today that includes the Georgia Tech Colorado game. Georgia
Tech travels to Colorado and coach Prime. Georgia Tech's actually
favored on the road by four points. I want you
to take the Yellow Jackets, and I need you to
(13:38):
pairrot with another team to complete your Jay's two team parlay.
And I want you to look at Waco, Texas, where
Auburn travels to Baylor. They are facing the Baylor Bears.
I want Baylor in this game. They're getting a point
at home. And just a memo to Auburn fans, Bo
Jackson is not walking through the door. So Baylor to
(14:02):
Georgia Tech and the Jay's two team parway tonight, thank
me on Monday months.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
All Right, So a big matchup this week is gonna
be nine LSU and number four Clemson. And the big
story at least in this you know, as they're getting
ready for the new season, is that LSU's offensive line
has not been the greatest. It's been the talk of
town and it's been struggling. And then they're arguably gonna
(14:30):
face the best defensive line maybe in Clemson. And so
I know this is a top ten matchup, which maybe
is a little scary to touch. But I am taking
Clemson in this first game between these two to win,
just outright.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yeah, Clemson as a as a dog gonna win the game. Right,
that's the pick.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
Yes, Okay, I like it.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
I mean I wouldn't pick it, but I like it.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
That's a pick ups, but I do like it.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Okay, I'm going to go with a pick from a game. Again,
I'm not a big Oklahoma fan, right, I don't think
they should have left the Big twelve, and Brent Venables
has really struggled, and I think he'll always struggle with
(15:24):
the mentality the Oklahoma fans expect double digit wins or else.
When you're now in a league where you're you're just
kind of a team. You're not middle of the road.
You're incredibly accomplished. But let's be honest. You're not in Alabama,
you're not viewedas Texas, you're not Georgia. You're somewhere notch
below there. They went out and got John Matier, plus
they got his offensive coordinator. They're taking on Illinois State.
(15:46):
I mean, this is a game of complete mismatch in
terms of salaries. Oh you has a loaded, loaded, loaded
up on defensive line. They should be absolutely nasty. They've
won eighteen consecutive home openers. I famously lost to TCU
and five when they had Adrian Peterson as their running back.
In your last home opener. They'll win. They're a thirty
(16:08):
two point favorite. They'll win, they'll cover. That's right. I'm
giving you advice to bet on o you. It doesn't
happen often, probably won't happen the rest of the year,
but you can do it and you'll be happier for it. Ryan,
you got one.
Speaker 6 (16:25):
I think personally that the buck Geys are gonna dog
walk Texas.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
I think it's not even gonna be close.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Dog Walk Texas. Yeah, dog walk text. They're a point
a half favorite. So you're taking Ohio State to win
and to cover correct.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yes, I think arch Manning is overrated.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Okay, I mean it's hard. I mean he's so well
thought of with two starts under his belt. I don't
think he's where they think he's gonna be on Saturday.
But we'll see. Okay, you know we do. Now, now
we get to sing for a taste of your whiskey.
Oh there we go, no end? Come on, I can't
(17:07):
hear you sing, Ryan, No, when to walk away? Give
me some base run? You never a cownt show money
when you're sitting at the table. Time enough account. It's
(17:27):
the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. One of
my favorite parts of Friday is a guy who has
worked himself into incredible physical condition, plus his mental condition
is ready, ready to win you some money. Is our
Fox Sports Radio Betty Analyst co host a Fox Sports
Radio countdown to kickoff with Rich Hornberger and Brian Know
that's each Saturday, nine am to an Eastern time listen
(17:48):
live on any of our Fox Sports Radio philiates or
the iHeartRadio Apaitol presented I bet MGM Jared. Let's start
with last night. The Big Ten goes zero to four
against the spread. Now, there's lots of different ways you
can take it. As a Vegas expert, what does that
look like to you?
Speaker 7 (18:06):
Well, first of all, look at the opponents, right, Miami Ohio, Buffalo, Ohio, Cincinnati,
you know, not exactly Murderer's row. And then you kind
of look at the teams that were playing last night.
They were all kind of the teams that you expected
to be in the middle of the Big Ten. I
think Nebraska maybe had the highest expectations of all of them,
and so let's isolate that game specifically. Nebraska really struggled
(18:26):
to move the ball, and I think that's going to
be kind of the vibe in the Big Ten this year.
I just don't think there are a lot of elite
playmakers outside of the Big Three. In fact, I think
you can pretty much rename the conference to the Big
Three this year. It's Penn State, It's Ohio State, and
it's Oregon, and I just don't see a lot of
contenders outside of those Big Three. I mean, you look
at Nebraska. Nebraka had a lot of love. Right, you
get Matt wool year three del Roola, you know, kind
(18:49):
of a sending. Maybe he could take that step forward
this year.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
They struggled to.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
Protect Royola with max protect schemes like six seven guys
in the protection scheme, and he was still under pressure,
struggling to find receivers downfield. They gained less than five
yards per play. They needed an interception late, and that's
not a good Cincinnati team. So I do have concerns
about the Big Ten. Don't look at the win loss record, right,
it's the against the spread number. Are they exceeding expectations
(19:14):
so far? Four games in? It is early, but not
a great record for the Big Ten so far?
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Fair enough, TEK got leap show here on Fox Sports
for you. Jeered Smith is our guest, is our Fox
Sports radio betting analysts. Let's just get right after it, right,
Ohio State Texas, who do you like?
Speaker 7 (19:33):
Yeah, this is a fascinating game, and we've seen some
money come in on Texas over the last twenty four
hours or so. The interesting part about Week one dog
these lines have been up for months, so the market
now the limits are pretty low, usually in the offseason.
So the sharp betters have had their chance to bet
Texas plus two and a half have had their chance
to bet Ohio State if they want, as a slight
(19:54):
favorite for pretty much the entire summer. And then what
do we see over the last twenty four hours when
books starts to take larger wagers. Well, the larger bets
start to come in, and then you start to see
where some of the real action is and Texas is
getting some love here. I think when you look at
this game from afar right head coach coordinators for Ohio State,
that's going to be a problem. You get both coordinators gone,
(20:17):
and I think that to me is the biggest edge
in this game for Texas, where they have a little
more continuity quarterbacked. I would give the edd starts Manning.
I know everyone wants to pretty much give him the
Heisman Trophy already. I'm not there yet, but I do
think he has an edge over Julian Saying. And then
you obviously look at the trenches, and I think that
is where Texas has a big edge in this game. Now,
don't get me wrong, Ohio State is very talented, but
they lost both tackles in the draft. They're shuffling around
(20:40):
a ton of talent. They're right tackle Austin Several barely
played last year. In fact, he played guard for most
of last year. They've got another transfer coming in from Rice.
The other starting tackle, Philip Daniels, came in from Minnesota,
so both tackle positions big question for Ohio State. That's
where Texas eats. They are fantastic rush the passer, Colin
(21:01):
Simmons was an All American last year. They have some
great linebackers coming back as well. Anthony Hill had over
one hundred tackles, almost seventeen for a loss and eight sacks.
And then the guys that Texas got up front, Travishaw
from UNC, Maron Watson from Syracuse, and Brevard from Purdue.
I mean, these are, like, you know, all big ten,
all true freshman type players that they were able to
get in the transfer portal. I think defensively, this is
(21:23):
going to be an absolute slug fest. I give Texas
the edge. The line movement makes sense when I bet it,
am I very excited to bet this game now that
it's a pick them. No, you missed the move on Texas.
But I do think they go into Columbus and get
a win revenge game too.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Right.
Speaker 7 (21:35):
They lost their last game against Ohio State in the
Cotton Bowl last year, so they've been thinking about this
one for a long time.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Jared, Let's go to a couple of the big games.
Clemson LSU.
Speaker 7 (21:51):
Yeah, I absolutely love this matchup, right, Just bet the
Tigers and you're gonna win. I think when you look
at the line movement, when you look at the line movement,
and Clemson is starting to get a little bit more
love in the market than I would like. You know,
we're out to four and a half now. Everyone loves
Clemson this year, and I understand they've got the most
returning production in all of college football. Dabo's finally getting
(22:12):
transfers in. How about that He's finally adopting the transfer portal.
What a novel concept for a head coach in Division
one football in twenty twenty five. But when I look
at LSU, I do kind of like this roster. I mean,
they lost a lot defensively up front, but they brought
in Pyburn from Florida. They brought in Patrick Payton from
Florida State. They brought in Jamari Butler from the Braft.
(22:34):
I mean again, these are kind of all conference caliber
players up front on the defensive line. So I do
think Clemson, who is fantastic upfront as well. Maybe they
have the best trench both offense and defense in the country.
But I think LSU will be able to hang with them.
The question is ken the'se very new, maybe inexperienced LSU
receivers get open against a very very good clumbson secondary.
(22:56):
In fact, I would argue this is the best secondary
in college football. I think downs in Ohio State's the
best overall player perhaps on the defensive side in the
second AAR in college football. But you've got Terrell and
Hampton elite duo with cornerback. I think Terrell might be
an All American this year. And then Khalil Barnes replaces
the Mickens kid who went to the draft. So I
think you've got a really good secondary for Clemson. LSU's
(23:19):
receivers are intriguing. Chris Silton returns he missed all of
last year with an injury. I think he gives them
a little bit of explosion that they were lacking last year.
They bring back their best receiver, Aaron Anderson, who led
the team in receiving yards last year. Nick Anderson, another
Anderson transfers in from Oklahoma, very intriguing prospect, missed all
of twenty four with an injury, but in twenty twenty
three at twenty one yards per reception. So I'm fascinated
(23:40):
by the matchup ls u's receivers. I think nuss Meyer
is a really good quarterback, especially in the SEC against
this very good Clemson secondary. I think whoever gets the
better of that matchup iLINK Clemson. But I think whoever
gets the better of that matchup will win this game.
But I think LSU is very live here. I think
four and a half, this thing continues to stretch out
the five or maybe even six. I think you come
back on LSU before.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Saturday Convicts versus the Catholics. Notre Dame Miami, Miami, big
time Carson Beck, big time quarterback transfer, same for for
you know, Notre Dame has done this before with the quarterbacks.
Who do you like and why?
Speaker 7 (24:18):
Yeah, we're off the three now, so we're starting to
get some love on Notre Dame. I think the strength
of Miami's team is their offensive line. We don't necessarily
think of that when we think Miami, right, we think
a little more flashy, a little more show and go.
But this is a Miami team, and Alex Mirrabal, the
offensive line coach for Miami, deserves a ton of credit.
Four starters back for them, including they're all conference tackle, Myoga,
(24:40):
including they're all conference guard Cooper, and they got this
here mark el Bell six nine three forty, who's going
to play the other tackle spot. McCoy the other returning starter.
The Miami offensive line should be very good this year.
They should dominate a very bad acc in most of
their games. But this is a Notre Dame defense that
we know is very gap assignments sound. We saw playoff
last year. I think they overachieved what we expect the
(25:03):
song of their talent to be. The question for Notre
Dame is they are replacing a lot of really talented players,
but also very experienced players Mills, Kaiser in the secondary,
Morrison and Watch. Those guys are all in the NFL.
And they also replaced their coordinator, al Golden. Chris Ash
the new coordinator the new defensive coordinator for Notre Dame,
Herban Meyer said in the offseason that this was the
(25:25):
coordinating higher of the entire offseason. I think he's a
little bias because he obviously coached at Ohio State. But
I am interested to see what ash can do because
I do think that there is some really good talent
here at Notre Dame. Tricky spot early in the year,
you're down in the humidity in Miami. I think now
that we're out to three, I think now you're going
to start to see some of the Hurricanes love come in.
(25:46):
And you got to give credit to their offensive coordinator,
Shannon Dawson. He took cam Ward zero star recruit from
Incarnate Word to Washington State one year at Miami number
one pick. Now the some of Carson Beck's parts I
think are important, and I view Beck as more of
a distributor, not a playmaker. Car tam Moore a playmaker.
He can make plays and kind of run around the
(26:07):
pock and do all these crazy things. I think Carson
Beck needs the sum of his parts to be better,
and Miami lost a little bit of talent there, especially
at the receiver position. Restrectbow and George are both gone.
Isaiah Horton transferred to BAMA. I think Daniel's the kid
they got from LSU is an absolute stud. I like
the back Fletcher. I think it's three. I like Miami, Doug,
but I'll be honest. Of the three games this weekend,
(26:29):
this one feels the most toss uppy, and I think
the weather down there in Miami, as you know, can
absolutely play a factory.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Said Ken, it should be a great weekend. You're gonna
have a great show. If you likely to hear from
Jared Smith. Obviously, you know it's more than just about
lines and trends. It's about knowledge of the actual teams.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Well, that's what you got, all right, coach, Just like
it happened with Luca Dancic and Dallas not long ago.
Dallas still now dealing with Michaeh Parsons and the tray
that the Cowboys made yesterday. So that is still the
big topic of Converse and today Cowboys. Cowboys coach Brian
Schottenheimer talking to the media said a lot of stuff.
(28:07):
So here here he is talking about his team goals.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
Nothing's changed. My goals haven't changed. Our team goals haven't changed.
I hit the players on that today after I talked about,
you know, just the tough couple of days, you know,
for all the guys, and it doesn't change. You know,
the standard is the standard.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
That is the standard.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
And this is what he had to say about the
decision to make this trade.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
At the end of the day, it was U nanisis
is not something we came about. It wasn't something where
it was like an overnight thing. We just we had
talked about it, and at the end of the day,
I think when you look at a football team, when
you can potentially add up to four or five players
and things like that, it gives you the ability to
do some things. We were certainly excited about the addition
(28:50):
of Kenny Clark. I got a call from Jerry Steven
and once I got the call from them, you know,
what I wanted to do was reach out to our players,
you know, And so I reached out to I'd say,
I don't know how many. It was a bunch of
the leaders, and just I wanted them to hear my voice.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Scheinehammer handling it the right way, you know? The standard
is the standard is so classic cliche, you know, but yeah,
I mean I think the best you can do is
handle it that way. He did say, hey, it was unanimous,
but again, like he just he's a first time head
(29:30):
coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I think his vote was
swayed a little bit. Even if you know, even if
he didn't want it to be. The one thing it
does for a first time head coach is you trade
away your best player. It does provide an explanation as
much as an excuse they weren't very good. You know,
(29:51):
they trade away Micah Parsons for the season. You know
what this is. This is the Raiders trading away Khalil Mack.
It's the exact same thing. It's right with the season.
Khalil Mack won a huge contract, and I'm sure they
looked at and they were like, look, we can give
me a huge contract, but we're not good on defense.
The only way to get good on defense to get
a bunch of good defense players. The problem with that
(30:11):
is that goes counter to the we're gonna be better
this year without him, which I don't think anybody sees.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Yeah, I guess I'm just really still a little bit
confused on the whole thing, because I don't think any
of us thought that the Cowboys would would do this.
We've seen Jerry Jones literally wait till the last second
to pay, and even though he waits till the last second,
he still pays. And then Michael Parsons, you know, he
wrote a whole letter to Cowboys Nation yesterday, and one
of the things that stands out to me in his letter,
(30:39):
he says, quote, I never wanted this chapter to end,
but not everything was in my control. My heart has
always been here and it still is through it all.
I never made any demands. I never asked for anything
more than fairness. I only asked that the person I
trust to negotiating my contract be part of the process.
Don't but you do have the control and if you
(31:01):
wanted to stay there, there's something.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
We don't know.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
Doug, you know what I mean. And I know you
dove into it with like Jane Slater and like maybe
the way he needed more babysitting. Let's say, I'm using
that word, not that you did or Jane Slater, but
the way he has this podcast and the way everything
was in the in the locker room. I feel like
we're missing something, like something went wrong and I don't
(31:24):
know where, because it seems like he didn't want this
and it wasn't like Jerry wasn't gonna pay him.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Nobody wasn't gonna pay him forty seven million. I mean again,
I'm just guessing, just guessing. But the guess is that
it's death by a thousand cuts. It's they thought they
had an agreement five years at forty and then the
agent's like, nah, we're not doing that, And then you
factor in all those other little things and I look,
(31:53):
I said it after the preseason game last week where
he was laying down, like, dude, that is conduct detrimental,
Like now now you're acting like a jerk, and if
you have a ton of equity. But then people go like, ah,
he's just trying to get a contract. But if people
already are like kind of done with you, they're like
(32:14):
this clown, like get him out of here. So again,
it's gonna be really interesting to see what the real
reaction is because I will give Jerry Jones credit every
one of us and Jason. If you say otherwise, I
think you're lying. Every one of us thought ultimately Jerry'll
give in. That's just Jerry's talks tough, but he wants
(32:36):
the players to like him. This the first time they're like,
all right, goodbye. That seems very un cowboys like and
very much a departure from the normal course of action.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
Just crazy, just crazy, all right?
Speaker 4 (32:52):
In baseball today, a bit of a I guess a
bit of a surprise.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Maybe I just wasn't expecting it.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
But the Red Sox did release Walker Bueller, former Dodger
champion Walker Bueller. He signed a one year deal, a
one year deal, year deal with Boston twenty one million.
But it just never it was never great, uh for
Boston and this year with Walker Bueller.
Speaker 5 (33:17):
But I think a team could pick him up. He
can't play in the playoffs. If a team picks him up.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Yeah, what happened to Walker Buler's just the injury?
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Yeah, he just well, no, he he went, he went
to Boston and it kind of just took a dip.
He has a five point four or five e r
A and one hundred and twelve innings with the Red Sox.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Yeah, but was he ever the same after injury? Ja?
Speaker 4 (33:38):
He he did deliver for us during the playoffs for
the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
He literally closed up, closed out, huh for the Dodgers.
But I no, no, he wasn't the same when he
returned last year from what like was his third.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
You could say, maybe yeah elbows.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Yeah, I think that there is a I think there's
a a I'll maybe I'll ask chat GBT. There is
a history of Dodger pictures that perform their best on
the Dodgers and then go elsewhere for more money or
what have you, and our substandard that Anderson Fellow on
the Angels, the left hander, I can't think of his name.
(34:15):
That's just like one of seeming like fifteen pictures in
the last ten years. When they go somewhere else, they
don't do as well. Now, if you stay on the Dodgers,
it's a good chance you're going to be injured. So
it's like pick your poison.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
But I will say this, Moncie, that since the Dodgers
swept the Padres at home, Jason's been a completely different
human being.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
Yeah, no, I yeah, we all are just like it's.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Like right, yeah, right, Like oh they lost to Colorado's
like we did. We just swept Padres, right.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
Right, that happened, and then once it won the next
two in San Diego, like did not get swept.
Speaker 5 (34:49):
So we swept, did not get swept. So it was nice.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
You talked earlier today, coach about Kyle Schwarber. Yesterday four
home runs, nine RBI.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
It was a story book day for him that you
couldn't have planned for. But apparently Kyle Schwarber months ago
agreed to be a part of an episode of Abbot Elementary,
that sitcom, and it was already scheduled for Thursday night.
So fifty three minutes literally after becoming the twenty first
(35:18):
man to hit four on runs in a game, he
went back out onto the field. They miked him up,
they gave him a little bit of a script, some notes,
and now he's gonna be in an episode of Abbot Elementary,
and we're always gonna remember that it was the same
day that he made history.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
I mean, like, you couldn't have planned that any better.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Sorry, what's happen? Elementary?
Speaker 5 (35:39):
It's a show. I've only seen a couple of episodes.
It's cute. I want to say.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
It's on ABC, KBC. It's a sitcom about an elementary school.
I've seen a few episodes. It's it's cute, it's funny.
It's not bad at all.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
And it's been out for a few seasons now. It's
not news. It has a nice little following. So I
wonder what they this story.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
My understanding is this episode, they're at the game, So
they go to a fieldies game and they asked for
one player to be on this episode, and Kyle Schwarber
was the one who volunteered the reports are is He's
always such a stand up guy, was the first one
to say, yes, I'll do it, happy to do it.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
He can do everything but catch a baseball. Do you
remember when he played catcher for the Cubs, It was like,
oh my gosh, somebody has to go get him.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
I has to I don't remember.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Maybe, Yeah, he's also an outfielder, and he's not particular
as an officer.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
Yeah, but we don't need to.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Man, can he hit? He's like the uh a league
of their own? Do you guys like the league of
their own? Do you remember the what was the woman's
name who wasn't very good looking but she was raised
like a boy by her dad. Oh yes, Marla? Was
it Marla? Like what about Marla? And then they're like,
she's with what a hitter? What a hitter? And that
(36:53):
is the press.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
Get out there and pressed. That was the press.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
