(00:21):
If you haven't checked out the new YouTube channel, you
should just uh. If you're already within YouTube, go to
Doug Gottlieb Show. If not, check out Doug Gottlieb Show
on YouTube. And I think you'll love it. You'll love it.
We got a lot to get to. We got picks
this hour with the Gambler. We got Jared Smith, who's
actually a professional sports gambler. Professional sports gambler. We are

(00:43):
pure amateurs. We just want to give you one pick
for the weekend. And by the way, we've done pretty
well with our picks. The Jaystew method continues to crush it.
Crush it, Jase, do you want to share what the
Jaystuwe method is?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I'm sorry, was that the Jay Stew method.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Like there's actually he's got a whole science to how
he makes his picks people, and it's pretty amazing the success,
right right. You want to share your your the whole
thinking and the logic and the math to it.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah. Two minutes before the segment, I opened Vegas Insider
dot com and I picked the two games that start
the Friday schedule, and I flip.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I met the other system. I meant the other system match.
I meant the other system you have.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
I'm clear it up. What do you need you fade?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Cowhard?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Oh so?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Colin Cowhard every week says he has a favorite pick.
So even though though he does his boising five, he
typically says he's got a favorite pick. He's zero and
six and I have increased my dollar amount every week
with each with each bet. So he is said out
loud that his favorite game of the week is Monday night.

(01:55):
Loves the Lions, Loves the Lions on Monday Night.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
There you go. That's the that's called the j Stew method.
That's called the Jay Stew method. Let's get let's get
into last night's baseball game, where one of the two
the Dodgers took a commanding three games to none lead,
and it's it's it's a very it's an interesting experience,
honestly to have somebody like Jason as my producer because

(02:25):
he's really invested and he I think you handled the
right way. Like Jason always like, Hey, I'm gonna recuse
myself from a lot of these sports conversations because I'm
just I don't follow it. I'm not I'm not that
into it, you know, or I'm not that into the
sports stuff. I'm into the storylines more than anything else, right, Okay,
But Dodgers, on the other hand, I don't want to
see you watch every pitch, but it feels like you
watch every pitch and you have been telling us before

(02:49):
the trade deadline you're disappointment after the trade deadline about
the bullpen, and yet the starters have just been incredible
in this series. Right, So I'm gonna make a congruent
argument as to why the Dodgers are so much better
than the Brewers when the Brewers were the best team
in the National League in the really best team in

(03:11):
baseball in the regular season. Okay, congruent arguments. What's what
you know? What's it's the old what's good for the
goose is good for the gander right in life, it's
what's an argument for against Clayton Kershaw? Is an argument
against the Brewers? What's that mean? So again, Jason, I
only look at the numbers, and the numbers are solid
like mid three's cra Obviously win loss record we don't

(03:32):
care as much about. But still, you know, you look
at Clayton Kershaw and I think he's got like three
point three six ERA in the regular season. He was
eleven and two in the regular season. He was a
kid considering where he is in his career, his last
year pitching in Major League Baseball, through a historic future
first ballot Hall of Fame career, to have this sort

(03:54):
of last year was a pleasant surprise? Is that a
Is that a fair argument?

Speaker 4 (04:00):
It?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yep?

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Okay, So he's pitched once and it was in the
last series and he survived the seventh inning after getting
hit really hard. Then they threw him out there in
the eighth inning in a two run game and it
just got away from him and he couldn't get anybody out.
And it was You go on social media, you listen
to talk shows, and people are like, man, it's sad

(04:24):
to watch a guy who's an all time great get
shelled like that shelled. It wasn't you know? It was
basically he had to get lucky, and he had They
had to hit the ball hard to wherever his fielders were.
Otherwise he was not getting out of that inning. There
was nothing, There was no swinging missus. It felt like
the entirety. And when people say, well, how could you

(04:46):
be such a really solid regular season pitcher and not
people get to be out in the postseason? My argument
was my same argument about the Brewers. What we love
about baseball or playoff baseball is that it's the level
of intensity in the playoffs, the importance of every pitch,

(05:07):
every sacrifice, every substitution, every every pinch hit, everything is magnified.
The intensity for a game that for a sport that
has one hundred and sixty two games where you win some,
you lose some. And you know, even the team that
has the best record in baseball one two thirds of
their games lost more than a third of their games, right,

(05:32):
I mean that's ours baseball, right Like you you can
have the best record in the sport and you still
lose a third of your games. It's incredible obviously that
changes in the postseason, right, change in the postseason. That's
the same for the Brewers, because the Brewers, you know,
they can patch it together. They can use openers not starters.

(05:57):
They they can put runners on, they play great defense.
All these little things help you. But when you get
to the postseason, you just can't get away with being
above average, playing so far above your skis. Now, look,
it would be fair to say, and I have this
joke with my friends that I'm convinced Key k Hernandez

(06:17):
doesn't actually play baseball. He only pops up occasionally for
the Dodgers in the playoffs where he's this star, and
otherwise he's like a completely nondescript player. So some of
it is that guys like keyk and there are others
they're they're surrounded by all of these stars, so they
get better pitches to hit, and they've been able to
take advantage of him. And that's why the Key k
Hernandez is of the world. That's why the taasco Ornandez

(06:41):
of the world. That's why they become kind of household names,
even though they're not the stars of the Dodgers. They
get better pitches to hit than the show Hee Atani,
the Max Muncie, the you know, all all the stars Dodger.
But the basics of the argument, and you guys can
feel free to pick holes in it, is there's no
greater representation for how much harder, how much better, how

(07:05):
much higher level of intensity the playoffs are? Then how
much better the Dodgers are than the Brewers in this
series as opposed to the regular season, where the Brewers
were the best team in baseball. It's a different sport.
It's a different sport. They can't compete and they were

(07:27):
awesome in the regular season. I'm not taking shots of
the Brewers. I'm just telling you it's like kind of
a virtual All star team. And now when the best
of the best get a chance to elevate themselves and
every pitch is magnified, now your true talent comes out
and they just have too much talent. Okay, Dan Buyer,
pick holes in it.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
The only thing that I will say to this is
I just think in baseball that at some point everything
kind of finds its level. What's the theory we say
in one hundred and sixty two game season is that
everybody wins sixty, right, everybody loses sixty and know what's
you do with the other forty games. That's that's the season,

(08:08):
and the Brewers have not been able to hit. But
I also think that at some point the Dodgers were
gonna beat the Brewers, something the Dodgers didn't do in
the regular season. And so if Milwaukee's not hitting, Dodgers
are obviously going to have an edge. And at some point,
guess what, the Dodgers were going to beat the Brewers
and this happened to beat them three straight times. I mean,
Milwaukee swept the Dodgers this past regular season. Were they

(08:32):
going to just sweep through them in the playoffs because
of that? Probably not case.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Two.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Yeah, I think that I'm not saying that your theory
isn't interesting. I'm saying that you're trying to put some
kind of a rational theory on something that just makes
no sense. In the fifty years I've been watching this game,
to try to make sense of a team that has
been top three and hits runs obi during the season

(09:02):
to go completely dark during a three game series against
the team that they went six to zero against during
the season. It doesn't make sense. That's my bottom line.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Take.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
This whole thing doesn't make any sense. I'm not.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
I'm let me, let me help make it make sense
to you. Okay, And again I'm okay, this is I
did this with my son yesterday, like we were doing.
We do this sometimes at dinner. He's like, I got
a hot take, Dad, so and then he allows me
to pick holes in it and present the counter argument.
So the series against the Dodgers in the regular season

(09:41):
for the Brewers is unbelievably important to Brewers fans, to
the Brewers players, to Brewers front office. The series of
the Brewers to the Dodgers in the regular season means
nothing or very very little despite the record. You could
call it arrogance. You can call it whatever you want. Okay,

(10:03):
Now everything matters. Every pitch is you know, we're really
really bowing up, really And we see this in a
lot of sports where you get to the playoffs and
you're like, wait, how they win the regular season. It's
it's the it's the give a rip only let's we'll
just use the rip. It's the give a rip factor

(10:23):
that the Dodgers can be a little arrogant in the
regular season because they're gonna make the playoffs now when
they really care. Now, when they're really on point. And again,
like the point was the first two games Mookie didn't
hit and show Hey didn't hit, and there's still up
two games to none, Like the Dodgers are gonna throw
show Hay as their fourth starter. That ain't even fair,

(10:44):
that's not even right. Like what so again, that's that's
that's my that that's that's my that's that's my belief
is you have competitive greatness. Competitive greatness is can you
be great when greatness is called upon. This is not
to diminish the Brewers. They're an unbelievable team. I just

(11:08):
think they're outclassed. I think the Dodgers are slightly better.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Go ahead, Sammy, Well this is the you know, the
farthest the Brewers have gotten in a while, right Dan,
Like they made it to.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
The seven years they took the Dodgers to the they
went seven games in twenty eighteen, then the NSAS.

Speaker 6 (11:23):
So there's what I maybe a couple of guys on
the team that were there, but mostly new faces. I
just think that the Dodgers have been there, done that,
and they've just handled this playoff experience better. And yeah,
I don't know, That's all I can say. I'm a
little disappointed just for the casual I told these you
guys in a text lesson, I'm I'm a little disappointed
for the casual baseball fan out there, for the team
that had the best record in Major League Baseball to

(11:45):
be down zero to three. It's just it's very underwhelming,
and it's it's disappointing.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
But utterly predictable. Utterly predictable. I don't think they're choking.
I just think the DoD are better. I just think
the Dodgers are better. I just think it's really that simple,
I really do. And I think, you know, momentum and
having a great record and playing frankly against the division

(12:13):
that's not as good, like we can we can admit that, right.

Speaker 5 (12:15):
Like yeah, but I don't think like like the Brewers,
like you match them up man for man for the Dodgers,
and the Dodgers are going to win, yes, but like
point yes, but like Max Munsey has just been great
this season or this series. Uh, play defensively yesterday he
gets the bad luck on the on the home run.

(12:36):
But there isn't a reason that that Christian Yelich shouldn't
outperform Max Munsey and Yelich yesterday got his first hit
since Game three of their series against the Cubs. So
like in that theory, the Brewers should have someone to
be able to at least step up because Shoheo Tani

(12:57):
hasn't been great for the Dodgers. Yesterday, you know, has
the leadoff triple and then scores right away against bets.
But I'd say as a whole that Otani's been extremely underwhelming,
and so for the maximum season. The paz is that
the Dodgers have the Brewers have similar guys that just
haven't done anything at the plate. And I think that's

(13:19):
the frustrating thing about it. It hasn't been that the
Brewers have been beaten by the hitting stars of the Dodgers.
Now the pitching stars differently, you know. But the Brewer's
strength was pitching when they were the hottest team in
baseball in the middle of the season.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
No, I get it. But the pitching in the regular
season and pitching in the postseason, that's where the Kershaw
parallel is, right, Like, you can get away with stuff
in the regular season, you just can't get away with
mistakes in the postseason.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
You just can't abebe throwing the ball on a pickoff
play yesterday was a mistake.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Right's the other thing is they've also won on great defense,
and their defense is broken down a.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
Little bit and not making stupid throws to first base
cost you a run.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Yeah, here's Mookie Betts channeling his inner Kobe Bryant when
he was asked about the comfortable series.

Speaker 6 (14:07):
Ly, honestly, I have zero emotions. I I mean, we're up,
but you know my Kobe said, the job's not done,
so we got to keep going and just keep a
fine pressure.

(15:16):
You have info on the James Franklin buy out. I
have info on the James Franklin buy out.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
You go first, Well, first of all, I think the
fifty million is a big number, obviously, and when it's
reported that way, it's like, wow, I can't believe they're
gonna spend fifty million dollars. It's an annual buyout, so
it's not fifty million lump sum up front, it's per year.
And there's also a mitigate clause in there that says
he is forced to look for another job, and there's

(15:43):
ways to get around that. I'm sure. But let's say
he does find another job that pays two or three
million dollars a year, Well, then that gets reduced from
the annual buyout that Penn State owes him. So there
is a way around paying the full amount. I'm assuming
he's gonna get a lot of this money. But also,
Penn Sate just signed a new three hundred million dollar
deal with Adidas, So I think the mixture of all

(16:06):
those things. And then, oh, by the way, you lose
back to back games as a twenty plus point favorite.
It just it felt like the timing was right to
make this move.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Well, I'll give you some more information that I don't
know if you know, Okay, I have a really good
friend that insures athletes, and one of the things they've
started doing is ensuring these contracts. And there's a clause
in these contracts and it depends upon it, and they
pay a yearly premium of them. And the premiums are astronomical,
couple miny to dollar premiums. But once you get to

(16:36):
many of these are three losses, you'll see the fieries
happen after the third loss. After the third loss, you
can terminate and the insurance picks up whatever you have
to pay.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
I'm sure that played a factor. Dog. And again, when
you watched him on the sidelines, and you're a coach,
you know this like there was no fire. It seemed
like he had lost that fight and that fire. And
I think all of those factors involved. And now you're
giving me more information about the insurance and of course
the Adidas money, like it did feel like pat Craft
had some options at his disposal to kind of maneuver here.

(17:10):
But the bigger question is I listen, We've gone back
and forth. I've been in my pencdate group chat with
my you know, college buddies for twenty years, going back
and forth about it's time to fire this coach. The
question that I always go back to is who are
you bringing in to replace him? And at the end
of the day, that's the only thing that matters.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Now at this point, well, U, there's a couple of
things to it. It's interesting. I mean, obviously I think
they're going to hire Matt Rule. I mean that I
know it feels.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
It feels like a latter remove though. Doesn't that feel
like a.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Loatter removed to you?

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Yes, except it's home.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
It wasn't James Home. Also, he's a Pennsylvany That was
I remember that was the first line of pres conmence.
I'm a Pennsylvania guy.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Uh yeah, But did he go to Penn State?

Speaker 4 (17:51):
No?

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Didn't.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
That was he really close friends the athletic director.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
No, okay, do you think that muddies the waters, because
I've heard that they don't want to. You know, sometimes
you don't want to mix business with pleasure.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
It's better, it's you know, it's it's better than working
with somebody that you don't have a long stay. Everything
is about pulling in the same direction.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
How about this.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
I'll be fine with Matt Ruhle if he brings Rayola
with him. They need a quarterback bad now.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
After this I read did you read the Jake Trotter
article in I did not ESPN dot com today. It's
really good. I've known Jake for a long time. He
used to write for the Daily Oklahoma and I thought
he painted a picture without he he did miss one
little thing, but he painted the picture of a team
that just wasn't as good as they should have been,

(18:36):
and everybody trying to figure out why. And I just
I'm gonna tell you why. This is the problem with
college athletics, especially a place like Penn State. You know
this from being a Penn Stater, Like you have to
want to go to Penn State. It's in the middle
of nowhere. It is not it is not the glamour
of sc you know, it's not Ohio State in terms

(18:57):
of the size of the city. It's not Miami, it's
not all these other places. Yeah you want, it's something
special about wanting to be the no you know, they've
always done the no names, no not no decals whatever.
Like it's kind of a when when that transforms into yeah,
all these guys came back, Well, they came back because
they paid them a ton of money, Right when the

(19:17):
number one reason you're out of place is because of
the paycheck. It changes how much you will fight and
kill for your wins and for your losses. And again,
I don't feel like I don't think they felt like
a traditional Penn State team. And I think the bringing
all the guys back sometimes can be the wrong thing,

(19:38):
just because they're not coming back to win for Penn State.
They're coming back because financially it's a smart move. Just
just just to thought read that. Jay Kirk Charter article,
you may end up you may end up thinking the
same thing. Stug otleab Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
That's the voice of noted Penn State a lum and

(19:59):
also are Fox Portrayo betting analyst Jared Smith. Jared, let's
get some of the games of the weekend. Vandy's a
favorite against LSU. Granted to Nashville, seems it's like what
but I hear people saying, like, load up on Vandy.
Where are you and Vandy and LSU?

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Yeah, I mean, I think the one LSU win that
we look to is like, hey, LSU's really good. You know,
the Clemson one. It kind of aged like milk over
the last few months, so we really don't know how
good LSU is. And I think that's why the market's
a little bit down on LSU, because you go beat
Clemson on the road week one, and you know, everything's high,
and then Clemson kind of sink, so your number will

(20:41):
then sink as well. The one thing I liked about
last week is LSU finally against South Carolina, who I
know they've had their issues too, but they finally started
running the ball really well. And Cayden Durham his best
three games this year were all really good. LSU wins right.
He had the good game against South Carolina last week.
He had ninety three yards against Florida, and then in
that opener against Clemson he had seventy four yards in

(21:02):
a touchdown. Durham missed the game against ole Miss well.
LSU could not run the ball against ole Miss two
and a half per carry. They lost that game. Ole
Miss did a good job dropping eight and really forcing
LSU to throw into the teeth of the defense, because
when you're not threatened by the run and you can
drop bodies in the secondary, it just makes your scheme
a lot more flexible. The one thing I like about

(21:23):
LSU their interior offensive linemen are starting to play a
little bit better. They've got this center, Braylan Moore, the
right guard Josh Thompson. These guys are grading out very
well over the last few weeks. That's a reason why
the run game has started to get going. LSU against
South Carolina last week thirteen for one, twenty one between
the tackles. If they can do that against Vandy, who's
a little bit undersized, I think that's the path to

(21:44):
success for this LSU team. But Vandy's off the by
They've got Missouri and Texas their next two weeks this season.
All of a sudden, that was five and oh. If
they dropped this game to LSU at home and then
you have to go play Miszoo in Texas the next
two weeks, all of a sudden, you're five and three
and all the good vibes there in Nashville go away.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
This is a tough start for LSU.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
Stretch too, right. They had A and M and Bama
over the next two weeks, so they could easily be
five and four if they dropped this game this week.
It feels like the numbers right here, like I think
this is a coin flip game. I think it comes
down to Pavia and nuss Meyer. One of those kids
is gonna have to make a big play. Nus Meyer's
been a little shaky over the last few weeks. Pavia,
I think better with his legs. I would lean Vandy here,

(22:24):
but I'll be honest. Of all the games this week,
this one really does feel like a toss up.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Okay, Bama, what is it is? It still eight and
a half against Tennessee at home and looks like a
high scoring games. What's your level of faith on Bama
being to cover that big number.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
So the one thing I really like about Bama is
we're obviously going to talk about the offense, and we've
discussed the two on this show. Like I think ty
Simpson is QB one and what they did last week
to Missouri, like they just they're a Boa constrictor right now.
On offense, Doug, they squeeze the ball time of possession
set in half and in the Georgia game two in
the second half, like they just squeeze the life out

(23:01):
of those two games. And ty Simpson is really good
on third downs.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
He's really good with.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
His decision making, and so you can run it on
first down, run it on second down, get into a
third and three, and you trust ty Simpson to make
that throw to get you into a new down and distance.
So I really like Bama's efficiency and consistency on offense
right now. But now what's starting to separate them is
the defense is playing really well. They've got this edge
rusher Yanz Pierre six three two fifty eight, physical kid

(23:25):
off the edge. He's got an elite trigger. We know
about lt. Overton, He's probably their best pure edge rusher
six five to eight. He really sets the edge. He's
got really powerful hands. So they're gonna shut down this
Tennessee run game, right. Tennessee they love to run that
wide zone scheme where they kind of stretch you and
stretch you and stretch you and then foot in the
ground up the field. We saw that last week with Miszoo,
and I thought Bama did a really good job shutting
down to Matt Hardy. The question is Tennessee plays with

(23:47):
a lot more pace than Missouri does. They're one of
the fastest teams in the country, so whereas Missouri was
a little bit slower, a little more methodical with their approach.
I think Tennessee might be able to speed up Bama
a little bit, and that could cause some crease is
in the run game. We've talked about this before when
we're talking about the Georgia game for Bama. They are
creasable in the run game, especially with counter and with
those zone schemes. So I'm curious how this matchup plays out.

(24:09):
I think Joey Aguilar is gonna have to play the
game of his life in order to stay in this matchup,
because we know how good Bama's offense is, and when
I watched the Tennessee secondary. Good box players. I really
like Jordan Ross, five star edge rusher, but in the
secondary they are brutal, Doug. They can't tackle, they take
terrible angles. So I actually think Bama, like the spreads
right here, Bama should win this game by two scores,

(24:30):
and you're right, I would lean to the over as well.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Yeah, remember when Calen de bor was on the hot seat,
Not so much anymore.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
He's probably his quarterback is probably gonna win the hehids
Bean Frankly.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Yeah, Notre Dame mESC what do you think?

Speaker 4 (24:44):
Yeah, this, I'll be honest, I really like what I'm
seeing on tape from CJ.

Speaker 6 (24:46):
Car Doug.

Speaker 4 (24:47):
He's a freshman, so you don't really know what you're
getting out of the gate. And they had some tough
games early on in the season, right like that. That
was not a cakewalk against Miami. Miami is turning out
to be one of the best teams in the country
and Carr kind of outplayed back in the second half
of that game, and then you had to shootout against
A and M, which was just a wild game. Well,
since then, what have we seen from Notre Dame? Right,
They've settled down, they're starting to, I would say, execute

(25:09):
the scheme much better. They're still very conservative with the
run game for some reason. Mike Denbrock the OC he's
just not giving price and love these like heavy workloads,
and maybe they're saving them for later in the year.
Maybe they just want to get CJ. Car Moore reps again.
When I see on tape six three two ten, just
a really good athlete, good at collecting information at the

(25:29):
line of scrimmage. That's rare for a freshman. But he's
the grandson of Void car so he's got a football pedigree,
big arm, good twitch. I think he's unafraid in the pocket.
That's what I like about him. And the one thing
I've noticed from Denbrock is they like to force you
to commit bodies in the box. They will put two
tight ends in the formation and act like they're going
to run it and then explosive passes off of it.

(25:51):
And it's just really tough to defend because when you're
loading up for two of the best backs in the
country and they're running play action and you've got tight
ends running wide open down the seams like it, it's
a really tough scheme to defend. And the one thing
that's different for Notre Dame this year, they actually have
an ex alpha receiver on the outside, Malachi Fields is legit.
So this is a really explosive offense for Notre Dame
that's starting to get better. And I think they have

(26:12):
a really good matchup this week against a USC defense
that hasn't really faced a legit passing offense yet this year,
they're one. Like pulse of an offense they face was
Illinois and Luke Altmeyer shred at him. So I think CJ. Carr,
Like I gave out the over passing yards prop for CJ.
Carr this week, and I think Notre Dame gets this
done at home.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
I saw that she marked down A and m Arkansas.
I mean, you know of the teams that have fired
head coaches, you know Arkansas sitting right there? Does Arkansas
cover at home?

Speaker 4 (26:41):
This is an interesting one. So I love games, and
we've discussed this too before. I love games when the
coaching staffs have history and familiarity. So Bobby Patrino, right,
So you get Pittman gets fired, Patrino gets you know,
upgraded to the interim HC job, and all of a
sudden right, like everyone was moving it on Notre Dame

(27:02):
and Arkansas couldn't do anything against Notre Dame. And then
all of a sudden, Pittman gets fired and in Arkansas's
offense looks great the next week. Maybe maybe Bobby Patrino,
that son of a gun with sandbag in this offense
a little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
Here's the difference shared. I have some friends at Arkansas,
and I know there's a good faction of people that
want Patrino to get the job. The difference seeing him
and some of these other guys, other guys, it's like
the Bowl game, right, They're running oop to oop and
double reverses or whatever. Patrino wants the job. They're playing
real football.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
Yeah, I agree, and I think they're going to continue
to play real football. And again, Patrino has a very
close tie to this A and M staff. He was
the offensive coordinator under Jimbo Fisher in twenty twenty three.
Jimbo gets fired, they hire Mike Elko. Elko says thanks,
but no thanks Bobby Patrino, and then Patrino moves on.
Patrino worked with Marcel Reid, like you know, he was

(27:50):
a red shirt that year, So there is this kind
of unique familiarity where no one knows Reed's weaknesses like Patrino. Now,
to be fair, it's been two years. I'm sure Marcel
Read has evolved as a quarterback in some capacity. The
one thing I like about this A and M team
is they're playing very clean football right now. The defense
is playing better, they're playing penalty free, they're playing sack free.

(28:10):
They played a balanced game last week. They're a team
that definitely feels like they are a class of the
SEC type of contender. Arkansas's offense is elite. I love
Tayalon Green. I think he's gonna have a big game here.
We've seen quarterbacks shred this A and M defensive times.
Go watch the Notre Dame tape, and I think this
is gonna be one of those high scoring back and
forth games. Frankly, I don't love the fact that Leveon Moss,

(28:34):
who's one of the best tailbacks in the country, is out,
But I do think A and M has some depth
behind him. You're gonna see a little bit of Red
Schert senior Mark Daniels, will see a freshman Jamie on Morrow.
Those will be the backs that will get the bell
Cow work for A and M this week, But I
think this A and M offense haveve got two really
good receivers that are kind of slot guys, and Marcel
reads an RPO merchant. So this one feels like a shootout,

(28:54):
feels like back and forth, and there'll be some juice
in the building. With Patrino with his first real start
at home as the interm head coach.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Our last one real quick Old Miss at Georgia, dog's
a big favorite.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
I feel like the Georgia defense is not the Georgia
defense of old Like I could see ole Miss coming
in here and putting together a good game plan. Ole
Miss has started fast and Georgia has started slow. That's
been them for both teams this year. The one concern
for me is in the in the crunch moments Trinida
and Shambliss now making his first real road start in
the SEC, like, what's that gonna look like? Whereas I

(29:29):
trust Gunner stocked in a little bit more with his legs.
Now that this line's gone from seven and a half
to seven, right, there's been a little love for ole Miss.
I think you played Georgia minus seven and you play
the over and you hope this one's a fun shootout.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Jeredy, you're the best man. We'll see what happens to
Penn State obviously matter both looking for college football coaches
never never fun when it happens. I don't like when
it happens early in the year. I just think that
that completely disintegrates everything that you have with him, and
it's gonna kill you for next year. You're saying, Hey,
this year and next year don't matter, but we'll see,
we see who they're hired. You're great stuff. Can't wait

(30:02):
to hear you tomorrow morning.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
I appreciate you do.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
It's called Countdown to Kickoff with Riche Hoornberger Brian no
each Saturday, nine am to New Eastern Time. Let's leave
on our Fox Sports Tradio Phillips or the Ihart Radio
present of my bet MGYM. It's Doug out Lab Show
Fox Sports Radio. Here's what we do. Every one of
us has one pick we love. We're gonna try and
save you from yourself this weekend. We call it the Gambler.

(30:26):
We call it the gamble. Yeah yeah, we call it
the Gambler. Don't we There we go. I'm gonna hand
it off to my man Jason Stewart, because he's got
the Jay two team parlay and he's got his sister.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Take it, Doug. I'll take it from here.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
I need you guys to run to the bet in window.
Those are the two early games on Friday's schedule. Uh,
Louisville is in myami. Miami's given eleven and a half points.
I like the uh. I like the favorite in this one.
Miami given eleven and a half point points. To complete
the Jasuit team parlay, you also need one other team,
and that's Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are hosting Nebraska tonight

(31:07):
and getting seven points. Just a memo to Nebraska fans,
Tommy Fraser is not walking through that door. Pair pair
Minnesota with Miami and thank me on Monday. Thank you.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
You heard the man to the window to the wall, right.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Go ahead? Sam?

Speaker 2 (31:31):
All right?

Speaker 4 (31:32):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (31:32):
Who uh? Actually, I'm sorry, I need to pull this
back up. Dan, can you go?

Speaker 5 (31:36):
You got it?

Speaker 1 (31:37):
Thank you?

Speaker 5 (31:38):
I called it the worst game of Week seven, but
that doesn't mean you shouldn't bet on it. Panthers and
Jets in a matchup of a three and three Panthers
team and an zero to six Jets team that's coming
back from a trip from London and playing with out
their top wide receiver. What a perfect way for the
Jets to get their first win of the year. Who

(32:01):
cares that they're getting one and a half? Take the
Jets on the money line to take down Carolina on
Sunday in New Jersey. Jets get win number one of
the Aaron Glenn Era.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Do you guys know that Oklhoma State started a wide
receiver at quarterback last week? I did not a couple
of their best players to put themselves in the portal.
Their kicker put themselves in the portal this week. I
mean the biggest thing that's happened at Oklahoma State, I
mean the basketball team. My former player Anthony Roy had
a big night when they beat Auburn in an exhibition game.

(32:39):
Outside of that, the biggest thing that happened in last
week's thirty nine to seventeen loss at home to Houston
was there was a couple of guys that went shirtless
in one of the empty student sections, and then all
the students that were left rushed to that student section
took off their shirts and they had an unofficial world

(33:01):
record for the most shirtless people in a student section.
The point is anything to take you away from the
football that's that's taking place. And by the way, on
the other side, Cincinnati and Scott Sanderfield has done a
great job. Great job swers be their quarterback, awesome, fourteen touchdowns,
one interception. He's been really good. I don't know if

(33:24):
Sincinnati's great. They are way better than Okama State. It
is homecoming, it is sad, but oklah Mi State doesn't
have that. They don't have any bullets in the gun.
It's a mess. Take the Bearcats. Take the Bearcats.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
I blame it was it Cam Skataboo for ripping his
shirt off. And then there's been this trend, this butterfly
effect of other people just going shirtless. So blame it
on Blame it on Cam. All right, I'll go now
listen Ucla. I feel like you know, I'm not a
fan of firing coaches a couple of games in the

(33:57):
season or midway.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
No, but they've been better.

Speaker 6 (33:59):
But they've been a lot better since they got rid
of Deshaun Foster. And they've won two games now, put
up forty two points on Penn State, which judge out
how you may. But then they pretty much blew the
pants off of Michigan State, who's a rebuilding under Jonathan Smith.
They have a Maryland team that's decent. Four and two.

(34:21):
You see al he's a slight favorite, three and a
half point favorite. I think they're gonna cover. I'm seeing
them at three and a half points as a favorite.
I'm gonna say they cover that three and a half.
They got Tim Skipper, they got Jerry Neuheisel, they got
a great quarterback. I think the Bruins are reborn. I
take them to win and cover that three and a half.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
So you got to learn the eight clap. You didn't
pick Iowa against Penn State. Penn State leaves their quarterback.

Speaker 6 (34:41):
I'm staying away from that one. I was just a
slight favorite. I have no idea what's gonna happen. But
I always got some confidence now after their shutout. But yes,
I'm not gonna touch that one today.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
The other pick, dan, does Wisconsin put up any fight
against Ohio State? Like Ohio State on the road, it
looks like fickle, you know, I don't see him making it.
They have no offense at all.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
Yeah, I don't. I don't see much of a fight.
What is it twenty five. What's the line?

Speaker 1 (35:08):
Yes, yes, yeah, yeah, twenty five.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
I think that Ohio State will put a workmanlike effort together. Yep,
they shouldn't cover that Wisconsin can't do anything on off.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
These are all sad things. Let's sing no.

Speaker 5 (35:23):
Will hold well, hold.

Speaker 6 (35:30):
Walk away?

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Hey, yeah, know when to run? You never count my
money when you're sitting at the demo. Time enough account.
This is not only chow. Fox Sports Training the Press

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Dan the press.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray considered questionable to play against
the Packers on Sunday. If he can't go, Jacoby Brissette
would get the start. That should be noted Brissette worked
with the first team all week long, and speaking of
first team Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Junior, as clear
concussion protocol, He'll play against the Packers on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
Good thing or bad thing if he has the drops.
But think about the Packers and how many backup quarterbacks
are getting a chance to face back to back weeks.
Very likely to face them back to back court.

Speaker 5 (36:55):
Here's the question, would you rather face Jacoby Burssett or
Kyler Murray?

Speaker 1 (37:00):
Jakobe Presett. I'm not a huge Kyler Murray guy. I
love Jacoby Brissett as a backup, but the more he plays,
the worse it gets because he's just not a great
thrower at the football.

Speaker 5 (37:09):
Jason Stewart, would you rather face Jacoby Brissett or Kyler
Murray if you're the Green Bay Packers? He's gonna plead.

Speaker 6 (37:19):
Can I just say Brissette's numbers were impressive in last game,
but I think I'd still want to face Persett.

Speaker 5 (37:26):
See, I knew you were going to say that, and
I was hoping Jason would say Kyler and then I
would go to Sam for the vote. But Brissette looked
pretty good last week anyway, did Carson Wentz is going
to start against the Eagles. JJ McCarthy still not back
for Minnesota with that ankle injury. He'll be the third
quarterback coming up on Sunday. Who's the second Max Brosmer

(37:46):
He's going to back up Wentz on Sunday?

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Is anybody who Max Brosmer's.

Speaker 6 (37:50):
Former Golden Gopher a quarterback?

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Right?

Speaker 4 (37:52):
Is? He?

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Wasn't he last year with the Minnesota Take the seven
points with Minnesota today by the.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
Way, Hugannakua and no go for the Rams against the
Jaguars in London. Cowboys have the Commanders Commanders without Terry
McLaurin and Deebo. Samuel's situation could be up in the
air because of his heel injury, but the Cowboys won't
be uh with Trayvon Diggs, cornerback is now in concussion
protocol for an incident that happened at home. Ceedee Lamb

(38:20):
is off the injury report and will play against Washington.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
When you hear concussion at home, it's never the story
that they actually tell you.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Yeah, that's I'm just wondering what the heck went on.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
It's like when in basketball when a guy breaks his
hand in practice and you're like, oh, no, no, he
broke in blocking a shot, Like now, that means he
punched some money.

Speaker 5 (38:36):
Chargers wide receiver Quinton Johnston's gonna play Sunday against the Colts.
Sees off the injury report and gonna play on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (38:43):
There's so many jokes there, right, so many jokes, although
he does have a lot more catches this year.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
And that's the press.
