The four Ball Championship which is going on right now,

(01:24):
is that the amateur US AM four Ball Championship.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yes, zech yep USGA one of their amateur competitions that
they have. The four ball competition going on at Plainfield
Country Club in New Jersey.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Okay. For people who don't know, my hand is raised
up in the air. What is a four ball Championship?

Speaker 3 (01:43):
So it's a team event. You will team up with
another player of a handicap that qualifies, and you will
both play your own golf ball and the lowest score
of your team is the score for your squad, and
you will compete against another two man team. So, Doug,
if you and I both part and Jason got a
birdie and Sam got a part and they were teammates,

(02:04):
they would win because of Jason's birdie, we would not
have matched that, so they would.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Go one up in our match. But it's okay, two
man competition.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
It's a two man competition or four man competition.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
It's do you have to take it back?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
It's a choke. It's a basketball, you know that, right, yes, yeah,
so so it's too many. Now in terms of ball,
it's basically best ball for each individual hole, right yep.
So you and I play together, and you're a better
golfer than I am. We get to seven and I
stripe a drive, and then I I get I get

(02:40):
my birdie and like for that whole week, count my
ball for most of the other holes, weak out your ball,
and then it's a score competitive against whichever is the
best shot, the best scorer they have per hole.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
That's correct, Okay, okay, so.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
It if you play by yourself, do you get to
play two shots? You get to do the Mulligan thing
that I didn't like that one.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
No, maybe, you know what, it's an interesting question. I
was gonna say, maybe our next guest would be able
to answer the question. But because you think about the
just the energy that goes with it, but it also
completely flies in the face of the rules of golf.

(03:27):
I mean, that would just be essentially breakfast ball in
every single hole, what every single shot, excuse you.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Would be I don't know anybody plays that way, Sorr. Yes,
in essence, in essence is Mark there? I think he's
he's going to join US. Okay, so Mark's going to
join US now full disclosure. He lost yesterday in the
quarter finals, right, but in I guess you call it
the sweet sixteen.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Yep, around the sixteen.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
That's good round of sixteen. His partner was not able
to make it, right, So you know, there's all this
partner stuff like I mean, you have you and your
caddy or do you caddy for yourself in this thing?
In the end, I think you have a caddy.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah, you know what, Actually it's a pretty good question
because Mark is also a caddy as well. But yeah, to.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Now he's a mid amateur. What is that? Does that
mean he's like mid? So the kids say he's mid?

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Well no, Well, there's you could compete in the US Midamateur,
which is for players who are twenty five years or older.
There's a little bit more leniency as well on the
on the handicap, So if you were to play in
the US am it's for any any player who has
a basically scratch golfer a point four handicap or less

(04:45):
can go into the US Amateur I believe, and maybe
Mark can clear it up for me. The mid am
is about two point four, I believe, so there's a
little bit more leeway in your handicap and competing in
a midameter.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Let's ask Mark Dell Joins is now in the Doug
Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio, what is the rule?
What is the the barrier for mid amateur in terms
of handicap?

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Uh So it's her tournament.

Speaker 6 (05:11):
I think the midam is like one point nine is
the handicap maximum at the USAM.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
It's the same for midams.

Speaker 6 (05:18):
It's whatever that they set for that tournament. But whether
it's you're a midim or an amateur, it's it's that
it's that handicap, regardless.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
How much sandbagging is there. You're like, come on, dude,
you're not You're not a one point nine, Like what
do we how much sandbagging is there in it?

Speaker 6 (05:32):
Yeah? They well, they watched a lot of guys stand
back the other way.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
They say they're better than they are, so they can
even try to get into these events.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Both.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
You know, the guys that actually get in and play
them are much better than those handicaps.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
But the guys that try to qualify that don't get
in are not one handicaps usually.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Okay, what what is your day job.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Right now? I'm currently a full time caddy out of Streamstone.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Okay, so your full time caddy you play in this?
Who is your partner in the flour ball?

Speaker 6 (06:01):
His name is hit Brook. He was the original Catty Master.
He hired me out a stream song and that's how
I met him back in twenty thirteen.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Okay, sure, get ready for the round of sixteen. Why
couldn't he make it?

Speaker 6 (06:14):
He has daughter had or high school graduation on Tuesday
at like two o'clock in the afternoon. So he told
me a month or two before the tournam He's like, hey,
if we make it this far, He's like, I have.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
To go back to our high school graduations.

Speaker 6 (06:26):
I can't miss it. So if we get there, buddy,
you're on your own. So I knew going into it.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
So did you have any expectations even though you knew, like,
I mean, you would want to think of Florida midam
as well? Like, did you have expectations that, you know what, yeah,
I'll probably have to lug it myself at least on
one at least on that day or did you kind
of just put it in the back of your mind
thinking it wouldn't happen.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
So I did try to put away the fact I
was playing two on one. I just try to go
out there and play as good at golf as I
possibly could.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Honestly, my goal was to.

Speaker 6 (06:59):
Not embarrass myf because I knew if I didn't play well,
it could get ugly early and could get out of hand.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
So honestly, that first match, my goal was to just
be competitive and you honestly, just try not to embarrass myself.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Okay, so you're getting ready for the round of sixteen.
You know you have to play by yourself. What is
that process like in preparing in comparison to what it's
like when you have your partner.

Speaker 6 (07:23):
Yeah, so's it felt more like a an individual tournament
that before that round, because you know, we play our
other tournams, you know, with Florida State ams, the usam's
all that were playing on our own in those so well,
a little bit more preparing for like an individual stroke
play event where you've got nobody to help you. You
try not to make any mistakes, just kind of keep
making pars, maybe a few birdies falling in there. So

(07:45):
it just felt more like an individual stroke play event
more so than like a team.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
Match play event.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I asked the question, and I mean, I think I
know the answer, but like, they get to play two
different balls, couldn't you play have breakfast ball in every hole?

Speaker 6 (08:02):
That's a good question I should have.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
I should have asked for that. No, I have to
play only my ball, you know, one time, and you.

Speaker 6 (08:09):
Know, just take what I get.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
All right. So the two guys you're playing against, right,
did they know prior to you going up to the
first hole that you're playing by yourself?

Speaker 5 (08:18):
They did not.

Speaker 6 (08:19):
They We didn't tell anybody that I was gonna be
playing by myself. I just walked.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
They found out on the first team.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Okay, so they shake your hand, they're where's your partner?
Like there's no partner today?

Speaker 5 (08:29):
Yeah, but did did?

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Did you see any body languages there to tell like? Oh,
like they're up top, like you got this one, no problem.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
Well, so so they made a funny comment. I walked
up to the first tea and I told.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Them what happened you I'd fly home And they're.

Speaker 6 (08:46):
Like, well, we've kind of wish you would have flown
home too.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
It's kind of jokingly.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
I was like, yeah, like, you're probably right, but uh,
I'm gonna make you earn it today as well, I
said to them, and just kind of turned away and
got ready to play.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Would ship have made it back if you got if
you would have won that last match, would you been
with you today playing correct?

Speaker 5 (09:06):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (09:07):
I had.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
I won both matches. He had already was had a
flight book to Philly last night and he was going
to drive, you know, come in at like two or
three o'clock in the morning and be ready to play
this morning.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
I would think that that was tricky because, honestly, like
if you if you were to have lost the first
match in the day, it probably would have been easy.
He would have the rest of the day, but he
was probably hanging in limbo just considering on not knowing considering.
I assume that your second match happened completed sometime late
afternoon yesterday.

Speaker 6 (09:36):
That's yeah, that's correct, because we were I was the
last match out. We were at two o'clock yesterday afternoon,
and I took it all the way to the end,
so and our match didn't finish till seven o'clock. He
didn't know what was going to happen. That's overund seven or.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
Seven thirty last night.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
What was it like to shake their hands on eighteen
after they make a little mark on on one, knowing
that you beat him in the round sixteen without.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
Partner, Listen, I was just super proud of myself. I
was exhausted.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
I mean, it was just the golf course is so difficult,
so it.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
Was just a grind all day. The guys were fantastic.
I mean, I really enjoyed playing with them. They didn't
make feel they weren't they were upset with themselves. They
weren't mad at me or anything like that.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
They were obviously frustrated with themselves, which rightfully so I
would have been the same thing, okay.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
But realistic.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
And by the way, Mark Dahl joining us here on
the Doug Gottlieb Show just to reset. And for those
golf heads out there, Mark competing in the US four
Ball Amateur Championship in New Jersey yesterday, lost his partner
just for Tuesday because his partner had to go to
a high school graduation in Florida. So it's two against one.
You win the first match, then you're in the second match.

(10:46):
I didn't see it, Mark, so I'm reading the recap
but there was there was a whole out like you
were hanging. You said you were, you were, you were
gassed after eighteen holes. But there seemed to be at
least a little drama in the afternoon where you at
least hung in there and and the the ended up
outcome was at least in doubt at some point with
your play in the afternoon match.

Speaker 6 (11:06):
Yeah, there was a there was a pivotal stretch the middle.
I was, you know again, I was just trying not
to again in the afternoon.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
The goal was that don't embar yourself, because I was
sent mentally.

Speaker 6 (11:14):
But there was a key thing in the middle of
that round.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
I was two down.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
I made about fifteen foot par on the eighth hole
to tie the hole.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
And then I birdied nine.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
I hold out out of the fairway on ten, and
then I birdied twelve and thirteen. So that middle of
that round, all of a sudden the matches kyde where
I was one up. Even I was like, oh, you
know what, why not me now at this point, you know,
with only five or six holes to go and I'm
one up. At that point, I felt like, Okay, I
had a chance.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
It's awesome, It's awesome, okay, but then you got to
come back and play again.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Well that was in the That was in the quarter
final where I believe it you were tied through sixteen
that our recap said, but it ended up going to
eighteen holes.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
Is that right, Mark?

Speaker 5 (11:55):
That's correct? Yeah, yep.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
I birdied sixteen to make them to tie the match
on that quarterfinal round, and then I lost on eighteen,
took it all the eighteen, went to eighteen tiede and
they beat me on eighteen.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
What happened on eighteen?

Speaker 5 (12:10):
Oh, I had to tea.

Speaker 6 (12:12):
I drove in the green side bunker and then one
of their players drove it on the green and he
I was actually closer in the bunker than he was.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
And match play whoever's alway has to play first, no
matter what why you are, And so he.

Speaker 6 (12:24):
Putted it up to like three feet and I had
a really tough bunker shot and tried to hit a
perfect shot, didn't get it out of the bunker, and
I ended up making bowe.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
Had to lose all.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Jeez, darn it, I know, yeah, yeah, I mean I
had to.

Speaker 6 (12:38):
I had to had to go for the hero shot
because I knew he was gonna get thirty and only
only option I had to do was to get it close.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
So still stuff of legend, right? How many people have
hit you up after you play by yourself and one
by yourself?

Speaker 5 (12:52):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 6 (12:53):
I've had hundreds of messages, text phone calls, Instagram messages,
you name it, coming from all over.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
I've got probably forty from numbers. I don't even know
who they are. I'm just saying thank you. You know,
I appreciate the support, and a lot of them, some
of them I don't even know who they are.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
I can I ask you about the four ball competition
because it is relatively new. I assume you're probably going
to try to compete in the mid am later this
summer and whatnot. But this has been an event that's
been around for eight nine years or so. What is
appealing about it to you that makes you want to
compete in this or is it just another USGA competition

(13:32):
or however it is?

Speaker 4 (13:33):
But why did you want to compete in this.

Speaker 6 (13:34):
Four ball I mean, most my part of our competitive
golfers love to play competition golf, and we don't get
much team golf anymore. You know, you get you play
team golf in height in college and it's amazing. It's
so much fun. So there's not a lot of team
golf to play in.

Speaker 5 (13:50):
So that's what's great about this event.

Speaker 6 (13:51):
You get to compete at the highest level and then
also share it with your partner, a good body of yours.
You know, you play basketball, you know how it is
like it's whenever you do something and you have a
team day or a partner you know, counting on you,
and you come through, it's even more gratified.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
No question about it, no question about it. Of course
yours was at his daughter's high school graduation.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Like, well, I'll tell you I've wanted to go to
stream song for a while and now I know what
caddy to request if I ever heard of the yep
as for.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
The toll ugly guy that works out there, they'll know
what you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Awesome, I like it. That's that's a perfect description. Mark Dol,
amateur golfer who of course got got to the quarters
in the four ball competition, Sam's partner through the round
of sixteen, enjoining us in the dug ob Show, Mark,
thanks so much for joining us. Appreciate you hopping on
with us and telling us your story. And congrats on
that win.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Well, thank you very much, guys.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
I appreciate it a lot of fun pleasures, pleasure is ours.
I love that. I mean, you know I texted you
about it. A buddy mine, Scott Scott Perry. He was
talking about it last night and I was like, well,
let's just get him on. You know, the thing about
sports is like the uniqueness of stories. And can't tell
you how many guys I know didn't even know about

(15:09):
the four ball I didn't know about the four ball competition.
I didn't know about the mid Am. Sure, I know
about the US AM's Right and the juniors. I had
no idea that there was a mid am four ball competition.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
And I got the answer to your question. We didn't
ask market, but he does have a caddy. You do
have a caddy during that round, so he was not
lugging his own bag, so each player would have their
own caddy.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Well that I should have you know, And honestly, I
was so excited in listening to the story I should
have asked him like, so, how are you to caddy
four as opposed to how people you caddy four? Are?
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (15:41):
Oh man, I feel sorry for those guys give.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Me to the ball.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
There's nothing to me because if I hit one into
the woods and then you're because when you go to like,
if you go to like a resort, usually the caddy
has got two bags. He's carrying catting for two players.
And if your buddy goes right and then you you
go laught, you know he's got to do both. It's
a lot easier if you're obviously it's what they call

(16:05):
it caddie golf.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
If you both did it laughter, you both ate it, right.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
But I get I get so insecure because I'm sure
these guys are just like, oh man, not another one
of these guys.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Well, I mean you're actually a good golfer with me.
It's just like, let's just try and hit the ball anybody.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
It's just Doug doesn't give his game enough credit.

Speaker 7 (16:25):

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio. We didn't ask Mark
Dole about Caddy Day, right, we didn't or Caddy Hour
as it was Caddy check. Uh. Nice pull with the
music there I was, Sam, this is the Doug Gottlieb
Show here on Foxsports. You know, we love to do

(17:01):
this on Wednesdays, usually Wednesday's middle of the day, middle
of the week. This is a middle of the day
show and the middle of our actual show we do
something usually top of the hour we call the midway.
It's not getting the middle here, it's time for Okay.

(17:21):
The midway is sometimes sports, sometimes not, sort of just
a general discussion. I'll introduce you to the players in
the discussion. Of course, you know Dan Byer, you hear
him on the updates. He of course helped me out
with with Mark Dull. You have Jason Stewart, our steam producer.
Do you have Iowa Big Apple Sam, who I called

(17:44):
Sewan a couple of days ago as well. All Right,
So it was announced earlier today that Hard Knocks is
going to feature the Bills. The Bills and now the
in season Hard Knocks is the entire NFC East. So
the question is has Hard Knocks jumped the shark? That's

(18:05):
the question. That's the question that the midway question. Let
me let me start with you Jay stew because in
addition to and you'll even admit, like, I'm not the
biggest encyclopedia for sports, but in terms of TV, TV dramas,

(18:26):
reality shows that you ingest. Of course, you have your
own podcast on the with your buddy on the on
the Bachelorette, the Bachelor lifestyle. What do you think about
the idea that Hard Knocks to jump the shark?

Speaker 8 (18:38):
So the uh, I think the answer is in the question.
If you have to ask if a shows jumped the shark,
I think it has. I'm gonna give you the reasons
why over the past couple seasons, do you we even
know who the subjects were for Hard Knocks? Maybe maybe
the Bears were a year ago. But the reason why
we don't really know is because there just wasn't a

(19:00):
whole lot of buzz, I mean Hard Knocks to watch
in a linear fashion, you know, every Monday or whatever
on HBO that's gone gone the way by the wayside, right.
We usually catched Hard Knocks through our social media. This
is how this coach told a player that he wasn't
gonna play anymore or whatever it's like. But I just

(19:21):
I don't remember any of the any buzz from last season.
And then I go back two seasons and I think
who was even the subject two seasons ago and the
same thing, same answer comes to my mind. I so
to judge whether or not a show has jumped to shark.
You talk about like it's Q rating on social media?

(19:41):
Is it getting run? Is it getting buzz? And it
just isn't. And my guess is if you watched every episode,
it's been a watered down product. The access has not
been given. I think the NFL and HBO has struck
these has truck these deals where they have to talk

(20:03):
teams into doing it, and as part of that negotiation,
there's gonna be less interesting access and that makes for
a less interesting show. So I just pulled I just
pulled an eyo.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
Was Sam there?

Speaker 8 (20:15):
And I gave you five answers and I probably took
a couple of yours. Dan, you have any any any further.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
Thoughts Jason, Doug Sam.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
I do agree with a lot of what Jason said,
And I will also add on to this, there is
so much football that so an in season version of it,
which we're gonna have the NFC East, we had the
AFC North, last year, we had the Colts.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
One year.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Amazon did something with the Cardinals one year, I didn't
watch any of it. I watched about an episode or
maybe two of the Colts. But there is so much
football to consume that I don't also need to know
what's going on behind the scenes in season. And to
the point of the water down product of Hard Knocks,

(21:05):
because now we get so much football all over the
place everywhere, I'm not as dying to see the training
camp stuff if we're not going to get the goods
in the dirt.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
And that's what I love.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
The off season one was there were so many things
that we didn't know that went on, that were that
was going on that that made that interesting.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
But if you're watering down the product, I've got.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Other ways to to, you know, fix my football fix
if you will.

Speaker 8 (21:36):
Wow, I thought you were going in a different direction there.
I'm like that would that would have been out of character.
I fire would have been like, if you're gonna water
down a product, I've got something to water down.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
I get your water down right here. Hey, oh, I.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Try to keep it classing.

Speaker 8 (21:51):
That wouldn't have been a buyer thing that would would
that would have attracted I.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
I don't think it's more or watered down than it
used to be. I'm actually gonna side with Dan because
how to jump the shark, everyone wouldn't be doing it.
What's water down is many teams and I don't know
if all teams, I haven't tracked all teams, but many
teams have their own in house version of Hard Knocks, right,

(22:20):
and so because of it, it's like we're gonna let
somebthingy we can't control in our house to basically promote
our product. Why and when you have a lot of
these different options different shows, it doesn't have the same
residents of where you're the only one. Plus you do
get a lot of pushback and pe well, I don't
want to be on a hard knock, which is dumb.

(22:41):
There's never been a team that's on hard Knocks that
you didn't walk away going like man, I like that coach, Man,
I like those players. You fall in love with the player,
you fall in love with the team. They become popular
in the preseason because of Hard Knocks. So I think
what's become water down is the format of it more
so than the actual execution of it.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
On HBO, I remember when the Dolphins had to cut
Chad Ocho.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Cinco got the incident with his wife or a girlfriend.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah, and Joe Filman they had to have this meeting
and it was just yeah, you're like, oh wow, this
is this, this is interesting. And instead, because there are
really like I don't know eight ten roster spots up
for grabs, you already know forty, you know forty of
the guys that are going to be on the team.

(23:32):
So in trying to find that Cinderella story, it's just.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
Hit and miss.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
I think the Lions got it with Malcolm Rodriguez a
couple of years ago. He ended up making the team. Rodrigo,
remember that name. But there haven't been a lot of
those stories that have have cut through, and you need personality.
I think the Lions one worked because Dan Campbell and
all the pieces that you had. I just don't I

(24:00):
don't know what they're gonna do. If this is gonna
be a Josh Allen love Fast, is this is gonna
be look at Keon Coleman's quirkiness, or what they're gonna
do with the bills. But you got to make sure
these people are interesting. Sam, I'll be honest, I don't
watch Hard Knocks. I've never watched an episode before and

(24:20):
I'm even less inclined to care about the last few seasons.

Speaker 8 (24:23):
So let me guess, Uh, you don't have Max, you
don't have the streaming service.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
That's correct, Yep, yep, I just listen again.

Speaker 9 (24:33):
If you guys are talking about a water down product,
if you're gonna do a reality type of show, you
have to have willing participants who are the ones being filmed.
And if you have a lot of NFL teams who
tend to be secretive and they're reluctant to do this,
you're yes, you're gonna get less and less actual drama.
You know, you're gonna get a lot of just fluff.
And so I mean, it's never been a show that's
really interested me. And if it's gonna be more fluff now,

(24:55):
then it's even less interesting to me.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Which I would think ioas Sam as a much more
college football.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Fan than he is an NFL fan.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
And so if you're not being appealing to us as
the NFL fans, I'm not saying that. I'm not at
all saying that we aren't college football fans, because I
think we're all big college football fans. But and if
you're not, then wedding the appetite of someone who's like Sam,
who's more interested in college football. It's an interesting spot
to be into the NFL.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
I don't think it has anything to do with NFL
or college I think it's more human interest. And I
do think one of the things that's changed.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Just to clarify my point is is that if we're
football heads and we're not watching, and Sam isn't like
a pro football head and he's not watching, then who
is watching?

Speaker 4 (25:40):
So if there's a not appealing to either.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Think well, I do think more women are watching because
it is kind of a reality show. I'll tell you
one thing that is missing, and here's where I will
side with Jay stew because the roster cutdowns are different
than it used to be. Right. It used to go
from I forget what the first.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Cut was, Yeah, like seventy five, right, and then.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
There's another one and there's another one, and it was
like every week they would I don't know, is this
the week? Is this the week? Is the week? Whereas
now it's just like all at once, they go from
ninety they go to like, it's not forty six, it's
like fifty four or something like that. Fifty three. I
think it's actually more than that. It's like fifty eight.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Yeah, you get down to your fifty three man roster,
it's just one big cut.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
It's just one big cut. It's it's not the same
build up. So again I'm sort of agreeing with Jason,
but mostly disagreeing with them where it does have less
trauma than he used to have. I don't think it's
the fault of the show. I think part of it
is there are other shows that are very very similar
to many of them, and of course they're run by

(26:44):
in house. I do think that there's at least a
portion of the Hey, we don't, but like last year,
the Giants let us in on their their whole offseason.
We heard conversations that we never you'd think the way
we're talking about would never hear on, but it was
on off season hard Knocks. It was great. So again

(27:06):
my answer is no, but I do think that having
only one roster cut down changes and.

Speaker 8 (27:15):
Yeah, pecifically referring to training Camp, by the way, training camp,
I don't know if I've never watched during season and
then I heard nothing but good things about off season.
The training camp is the one that we grew up
watching and it just seems to be faded away.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Well. Also, remember they don't do two a days anymore, right,
It's like, what have they got? Not that hard knocks?

Speaker 8 (27:38):
You know, there is so much footage of scrimmage, not
scrimmage preseason. Yeah, preseason footage in that NFL films just
isn't the same when you have no stars. Nothing nobody
plays in the preseason anymore. I tuned into a Bears
episode a year ago and I have of it was

(28:00):
just like highlights from a preseason game with a bunch
of backups. That's just boring.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
This is true.

Speaker 8 (28:09):
Do we know any of the Bills to have personalities here?
Who's who's gonna be?

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Well, they have, they have some guys.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Yeah, that's why I said, like Keon Coleman, you know,
the secondary receiver from Michigan State will be in the
Florida State as well, but he's gonna be he will
grab your attention. Josh Allen will be because of the
star factor.

Speaker 9 (28:33):
The young man they just drafted out of Kentucky, he's
gonna hold sure.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
Yeah, the rookie, I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
Damar Hamlin, I mean Tomorrow Hamlin, who's not gonna call
that story?

Speaker 8 (28:42):
So if cook is a holdout, that will be interesting,
right is that supposed to hold out?

Speaker 4 (28:48):
That could be or hold in?

Speaker 2 (28:51):
The hold in is interesting, right, Like, well, you're here,
but you're not participating.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
I'm just here so I won't get fined.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
I'm just here. What I won't get fine? Yeah, And that,
my friends, is the Midway. The Midway start Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Hey did you hear this? So again,
this is what I'm talking about. There's just more and
more series like this. Joe Burrow turned down season one

(29:18):
of the Netflix Quarterback series. He explained yesterday why he
chose to be a part of season two.

Speaker 7 (29:23):
Caught me on the on the right day.

Speaker 8 (29:25):
I guess I know.

Speaker 10 (29:26):
I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be
good entertainment, not necessarily the season that I wanted to
have in that spotlight, but you know, I think a
big part was Peyton being involved in it too.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
No, I have.

Speaker 10 (29:44):
A lot of respect for him obviously, and what he
did does is as a person. So that guy reaches
out to you and asks you to do something, then
you know, most of the time I'm gonna say, yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
All right, there you go. So he did it because
Peyton told Peyton gonna do it, I'm gonna do it.
Makes sense.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
I thought it was interesting when and by the way,
on the heels of this conversation, as you said, Doug,
here's another program of behind the scenes stuff.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
Yep, so yep.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
He said it should be hard knoxious to be the
only one, and now it's just one.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
It's one of many, one of many.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
It's kind of like sports documentaries, like what story had
the what story hasn't been done?

Speaker 2 (30:28):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (30:29):
By the way, have you guys, have you guys watched
the far one?

Speaker 4 (30:32):
I did last night?

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Good?

Speaker 8 (30:34):
How was it?

Speaker 3 (30:36):
I thought it was okay. I didn't think that it
was I didn't think that it was great. I don't
think that there were there were a few things that
were that we didn't know about.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
That I thought was interesting.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
But give me one.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
Just of of of the of the text exchanges that
he had with jen Sturger and then she admits she's
like at during this whole time, I still have never
met Brett Favre.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
That was interesting. She was a big big piece of this.

Speaker 8 (31:08):
Is it an episode sonic win or is it just
a no it's just just an hour long.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
She's a stand up comedian, now, right, that's cool.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
I think.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
So, then they do the they have the welfare stuff
in the Mississippi welfare situation.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
At the end of it, did he come across how
does he come across in that situation?

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Not? Not well. He also refused to participate, So it
was just looks awful.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
A bunch of people that you know, had negative things
to say about Brett Faharv.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
Which if that's the.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
I'm so tough to defend a lot of the stuff
that's going on for sure.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Yeah, I think again. My thing is, obviously, when you're
trying to raise money, did you know where that money
was coming from? Did you? Did he know? That's a
big thing. Did he know where that money was coming from?

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (32:01):
He did.

Speaker 7 (32:02):

This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
It's a press game time combo Doug, and we'll get
to the game in a sec. But I do want
to pass along the breaking news. Shake Gilders Alexander set
to be the league's most valuable player according to our
report from ESPN. So the Oklahoma City Thunderguard OKCS SGA
is the MVP, we can put it that way.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
And first Canadian born guard to ever be voted m
VP of the NBA. First Canadian born guard. Wait for
Sam to go. Wait a second.

Speaker 11 (33:12):
Hold on, yeah, I'm wondering. Hold on, I was just trying.
I was thinking about Okay, sees s G as the
m v P. That's like a great little brain stimulator.
Thank you, thank you very much, thank you, he very much.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
I thought you were thinking of fact that Steve Nash
was the MVP.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
Hold on, hold on, that's right.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
But Steve Nash was not born in Canada.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
He was born in South Africa. South Africa, so the
African that's.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
When I do a South African impression. Impression, it's usually
louisse tasan diplomatic immunity.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Yes, I think of uh, I think of what it
was at leath a weapon.

Speaker 9 (33:50):
Too to my favorite one, diplomatic immunity.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
But you're blick, but you're black, but you're black anyway,
all right, what else is?

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Let's play a game? The game is for better or worse?
You got the SGA news out of the way, Doug
for better or worse? Conference Finals in the NBA, Eastern
versus Western? What's better or worse?

Speaker 2 (34:14):
Eastern? You got traditional Eastern?

Speaker 4 (34:17):
What better or worse?

Speaker 2 (34:18):
Better Eastern?

Speaker 4 (34:19):
Bet?

Speaker 2 (34:19):
I'm sorry, Eastern is better, Eastern is better? Traditional rivalry,
Master Square Garden Pacers, Reggie Muller calling the game. It's
the last series. Tn T is gonna have Eastern.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Let's bring up the face of the league, potential better
or worse, Doug aunt Edwards versus SGA, who just told
you is going to be the MVP.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
I think Aunt Edwards is a better face in the league.
Just because he's a more dynamic athlete and personality doesn't
make him a better player. Just a more dynamic athlete
personality that's better for the league.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
For better or worse Doug East Eastern Conference legend Reggie
Miller versus Patrick Ewing. Ooh, we're gonna.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
Get Reggie Miller is worse than Patrick King. Okay, I
mean Reggi Miller I think was thirdeam NBA twice like
Pat Ewing. Yeah, did you see Pat Ewing walk into
was a Game five or something last week? He had
like Timberland's on jeans and a white T shirt And
like Pat looks good, Like he never looked great, Like

(35:24):
he was never a Larry Johnson physical specimen, but he
does look the same as he looked when he played.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
For all of the great highlights of Patrick Ewing in
collegen in the pros, I think my all time favorite
was when he was yelling at the player for taking
the shots that he doesn't take in practice, like yeah,
that's the best, uh so great.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Big sweater he would like, he'd like like when he'd
be at the free throw line or trying to box
out the free line, it was like there was a
faucet under his chin, like that level sweat.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
It's like me on the golf course, sweats just pulling
off of my brim as I'm trying to putt all right,
for better or worse? Doug more obnoxious NFC East fan base.
This on the heels of the hard knocks in season
announcement Eagles versus Commanders, versus Cowboys versus Giants.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
I mean Eagles are more obnoxious? Is that better or worse?

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Yeah? I would say who's the worst fan base? The least?

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Yeah, the Eagles are the worst?

Speaker 4 (36:29):
All right?

Speaker 7 (36:29):
Worst diplomatic community.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
That's what Sam's been working on.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Anything just where I find that drop?

Speaker 7 (36:38):
No, he does have diplomatic immunities.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
Finally, for better or worse? Olympic sports? Oh, flag football
versus break dancing.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Oh do you remember Nick Pickai when he used to
do the picks on this push.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
By the way bet on line and says, right now,
team usay minus.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Three hundred as the flag football men's gold medal winner.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
I thought it would be minus three million, honestly, but
it's only minus three hundred.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
They should make whoever the quarterback is throw with their
opposite hand.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
Oh, I heard Pakistan's got a crew.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
Stop stop, we're not getting That's what I do it.
