(00:25):
having a great day. The Doug got Leep Show broadcast
live in this case from both Green Bay, Wisconsin and
from sunny southern California. Welcome in. It's a Wednesday. It's
a hump day. It's also an NBA Finals day. It's
a day in which I get exposed for not reading
(00:47):
my texts correctly because the texts before the show we
were going to talk about this midway topic and I
thought it said but because there's no NBA Finals games today,
and I was like, Okay, that's my again. I have
a lot of habits that I'm trying to make better.
One of them is that I try and read like
(01:07):
every text, but I don't actually ingest sometimes or misread it.
Sometimes you know, you miss a word. It's happened a
lot recently, so I'll do better anyway. It is the
NBA Finals Wednesday. The last time I checked the thunder
or five and a half point favorites. We'll talk about
the game a little bit more. Gets you ready for it.
There is some Major League Baseball stories, there's a couple
(01:29):
NFL stories. There's things to get to, but we'd like
to put all that on a hold because it's Wednesday.
It's a hump day. It's the middle of the day,
the middle of the show, the middle of the week,
and play the midway. It's not getting the middle.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
It's time for the midway.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Okay, So I bring up the fact that I misread
text because I did read that Saquon Barkley had the
number one jersey in sales in the NFL last year.
Is that right, guys? Is that my getting that number right?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
That's the thing.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
It's like you and Sam both did this and you
jump to conclusions it has nothing to do with it.
Doesn't say jerseys. Adam Schefter is very careful to not
say jerseys and set in fact, he said Saquon Barkley
claimed the retail crown. It taught the nflpa's year end
top fifty player sales list. Jerseys is not mentioned once.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
In this It's a jump to conclusions map.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
I'm guessing what else could you consume that Saquon Barkley esk.
My first guess is that there are probably a lot
of VHS tapes of his highlights.
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Well, I'll tell you this. Even on the official the
official list that went from March first of twenty twenty
four to February twenty eighth of twenty twenty five, they
talk about where this merchandise was purchased, and it says
from a variety of online and traditional retail outlets. As
reported by Get This, over eighty five NFLPA licensees such
(03:02):
as Fanatics, Outer Stuff, fat Head, fo Coo, and Funko.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
So you could buy a Funko and.
Speaker 6 (03:12):
Maybe one player's Funko is a lot more popular than
another's and they will shoot up this list perfect.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
They all look the same to me. So that answered
my question. Fat head is still a thing? Yes, it
is that.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
It is still a thing.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
It's not just jerseys and jerseys, it's fat heads and funkos.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Okay, So do we know that what Adam Schefter is
putting out there is accurate and we just don't know
what items we're talking about that that's what we're going by.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
No, I'm just saying it's easy to make the conclusion
that this is about Jersey sales, but it's actually anything
licensed with Sakuon Barkley's likeliness on it. And I was
trying to think of what that meant, and Dan just
answered the question.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Okay, so what is the midway question?
Speaker 4 (04:00):
I want to know any surprises on this list, anything
stick out on this list of ten players in the
top ten player sales list according to NFLPA. I'll go first.
There are only five quarterbacks in the top ten. That's unusual.
I would assume it would make up the top eight.
(04:23):
But Mahomes at two, Hurts at three, Daniels at four,
Stroud at five, Josh Allen at six. No other quarterbacks
in the top ten, including Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Well, Lamar was really popular four or five years ago.
He hasn't switched teams, they haven't changed uniforms, and he
hasn't won a Super Bowl. So I would think those
are the three things that limit Lamar Jackson's personal growth
(04:57):
or growth in terms of his sales growth.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
I agree in all of those things in all of
those reasons. And I also find it interesting that Patrick
Mahomes remains number two and is number two on this
because it goes back to my Tom Brady theory of
if you have a Tom Brady Patriots jersey, why do
(05:22):
you need to buy another? And with Brady on the Patriots.
And I know I've told this story before because I've
put the video up at Super Bowl fifty three in Atlanta,
this is the end of his Patriots reign. I videotaped
for on my phone, recorded about thirty seconds of Patriots
fans taking an escalator up to where their section was.
(05:45):
Of the twenty jerseys I saw, I saw nineteen Brady's
in one gronk, and it blew my mind that everybody
is still with Brady Brady, Brady Brady. And if you're
the Chiefs, their team is built on defense right now, right,
I mean, but yet the Mahomes jersey and it's not
even it's not even that just in there are other
(06:07):
options to buy on Kansas City, where like Brady was
the only one, you would have Kelsey s if you're worthy,
Isaiah Pacheco, Chris Jones, uh, you know, Trent mcduffy, all
all these guys that you could pick on the Chiefs,
and he's still strong enough to be up there at
number two.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
That's what's surprising to me.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Well, the Seque deal is, yeah, he a new team,
they won the Super Bowl, he had a great year,
all those things, so it's not that surprising. I don't know.
I'm just always interested in, like, do you go buy
(06:49):
a jersey? Has your jersey buying habits changed at all recently?
Were you ever a jersey guy? Did you become a
jersey guy? If so?
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Like, I was never a jersey guy, but I do
have a couple of jerseys in my closet, but I
can't say that I've worn one in the last ten years,
so I'm not a jersey guy.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Jay ste are you a jersey guy?
Speaker 4 (07:19):
I have a Jackie Robinson that I often wear to
Dodger games, and I bought a Justin Turner because he
was from Cayl State Fullerton and won a championship with
the Dodgers. And then at TJ Max, I came across
a Derwin James jersey for fifteen ninety nine and I'm like,
(07:40):
holy crap, you almost have to buy it, right, And
then so and it's number thirty three.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
I get home and you know, six months.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
Later or whatever, I'm sporting my thirty three Chargers jersey
and then I look up on the TV and he's
number three. So that's that's why TJ Max had Thirty's.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
So funny when you said thirty three, I'm like, is
any number seven? I still don't like that. I mean,
sorry if I feel like I'm old bing it off
my lawn, but I don't like the single digit uniforms
for guys. There was nothing wrong with the uniform code previously,
like one or two guys complaining it just was what
it was.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
I think it's acceptible, though, I guess to answer what
you were insinuating, I think it's acceptible for grown men
to wear jerseys at games.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
To the games. Yes, to the games. It's a very
much a fan game uniform thing. But what about wearing
them to a sports bar when that team is playing.
That feels weird to me.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
It's a bit more acceptable, but it's still pretty weird.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
I'm not anti jersey wearing by any means, it just
never was my thing. So when you come to Fox
Sports Radio on a Sunday, you're seeing a variety of
our editors, producers, tech ops wearing jerseys of their team playing,
and I have no problem with that whatsoever, Absolutely none.
They're all younger than me as well, but still I
(09:02):
don't have a problem with it.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
So in ranking of where it's acceptable, I think at
a home game acceptable.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
What about to a job interview?
Speaker 1 (09:12):
No, not acceptable at your own home, like if it's
your family's team, Like, hey, we're Cowboys fans here, right,
it's a little weird for the dad to throw onto
Cowboys jersey, But it's acceptable at a sports bar. Is
when you're like very much. Gray Area has to be
the unequivocally big game of the day, and you got
(09:33):
to be like I watch every game and I can't
outside of that, there's no other place maybe Halloween, okay,
or jersey Day your kids' school that you should be
as an adult wearing a jersey.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
I'm going to drop something on you guys that I
don't know if you feel the same way, but Doug,
to your point, when you're wearing the jersey and you've
only got certain places to wear. When I was growing up,
I was in high school, I wanted for Christmas in
authentic David Justice Braves jersey. It was unheard of, unheard of,
(10:09):
And what do you know, my mom, Christmas Eve night,
that's when we open our gifts. I opened up the present.
What do you know? An authentic Braves jersey stitched on
the whole deal on the back Justice twenty three. He
was the cool player back then. Blew my mind, blew
my mind that I had this authentic jersey. I had
another authentic football jersey in high school, Marshall Falk Indianapolis Colts.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Good one.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
Yes, but now I feel if you're wearing an authentic jersey,
it's almost a little too much, Like you have to
wear the normal licensed one that is what hundred hundred
dollars one hundred and twenty dollars, because if you wear
the three hundred and fifty one, I feel like it's
too overboard.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
But back you feel like I'm gonna get nachos on it.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
That could be a swell, But I just take it
to the dry cleaner.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
But yeah, I was also a you can't you also
can't get the Walmart jersey either. No, you can't have
the super high end, and then you can't have the
Walmart one that's clearly not.
Speaker 6 (11:09):
Yeah, I don't know, do you get am I on
an island on this? Or am I feeling the way
that many think? I just feel like if you, if
I was Sam, if you showed up with an authentic
Caitlin Clark jersey, it would be kind of weird. But
you could wear a jersey of Caitlin Clark and it's
totally cool.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
You replica you're wearing anything of a woman. I just do.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Oh, come on, I just do.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Just listen. Anytime I go out and the heels I
feel strange.
Speaker 8 (11:35):
I just do.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
What about a Luca Garza throwback jersey?
Speaker 6 (11:41):
Wouldn't you feel weird if it was like an authentic
one as opposed to just one that you know was
screen printed on.
Speaker 7 (11:48):
When he gets in the game for the Timberwolves, he
is mister Buckets, he is a very efficient score.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
I'd probably just yeah. I don't know. I feel like, if.
Speaker 7 (11:58):
You get a really really nice baseball jersey, it's like
fully stitched, like wear that with pride. But there's something
about a football jersey that I'm like, yeah, you should
only really wear this like a couple of venues.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
I don't know. I feel like baseball you are the
hat you don't want the jersey.
Speaker 7 (12:10):
Man, I feel like because it's a button up with
the baseball jersey. That's a little more classy. Got an
Iowa base jersey I love, I don't. I don't have
The last NFL jersey I had was a farm jersey.
It's in storage. I should probably throw it away now,
but I don't have any you know, I actually like sell.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
It and donated to the Southern Mississippi Volleyball program. That's
what you should do.
Speaker 7 (12:30):
It's a really good idea.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
I probably get twelve dollars for it.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
If that he still still Brett Favra, still Bet Favra.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Dug talking about how he wears heels at night and
and uh Sam wearing a woman's jersey didn't Buffalo Bill
in silence on the Lambs have a Cheryl Miller jersey.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
I just remember you put the lotion in the basket.
Speaker 7 (12:55):
He does more like a kimono at one Pointmona.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
He's also wearing somebody else's skin.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Yes, yes, yeah, that seems a little.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
So when they went shirts and skins, he went somebody
else's sko play pick up.
Speaker 6 (13:12):
Speaking of Lamb, Ceedy Lamb was seventeenth on This Player
sales list for the.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Cows buying Who's buying a Ceedee Lamb jersey or Ceedee
Lamb stuff?
Speaker 6 (13:21):
Just to get us back on topic, this list is like, hey,
the second popular cowboy this this this list is really silent.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
On the Lamb Live show, the verdict is in, nah,
it didn't work out.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
This is usually plays the drop that Lamb drop he
has of a movie reference nobody knows except for dog.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Oh yeah, this is a Doug special.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Let me fine, I love Lamb. It's from my big
fred Greek wedding. You guys don't never watched it. I
make Lamb, I make Lamb.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
It was the thing I'm sure all of us watch's.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Veget because the lion that preceded it was he's a vegetarian.
It's okay, I'm Lamb.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I do love me a Lamb euro. Pretty hard to
top that man.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
I would tear upround.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Just after Ceedee Lamb was Lamar Jackson in at number eighteen.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Who's number und this list?
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Number nineteen was brock Purty.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
I twenty for twenty jam Gibbs who Jamir Gibbs.
Speaker 6 (14:29):
Yes, he came in third amongst the lions. Do you
want to know the other two.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Yes, yeah, you get your quarterback. And what's the ying
the defensive guy that got hurt.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Well, you eat You're half right.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
Aden Hutchinson is on the list, But Jared Goff is
twenty second and in seven i'mn ross. Saint Brown was second,
there was second of the Lions. He's eighth overall in
these rankings. You mentioned Sam Laporta, he was forty seventh.
Oh jeez, so he's the the fifth Lion player. But
again you expect Lions have a bunch of players. They're
(15:02):
a new popular team a couple of years, in a
lot of different options.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Color choose from good colors.
Speaker 7 (15:07):
Yeah, that's one of those jerseys you buy because it's
like it just looks cool.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
No, and lines are good.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
The bikers are suddenly good, and you're like trying to
be like, I'm the guy I see I get the liners.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
Yeah, I'm in silver, kind of silver and blue.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
Not the highest rated Hawkeye on the list. And in fact,
tell me Jehn Cooper degene is forty second, Okay, George
Kittle is twenty seventh.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Okay, that makes sense. Gotta be in the league for
a little while.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Well, yeah, pin a couple of Super Bowls. Got his thing.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
Cooper's won one one for one, and that.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Is the Midway Kids, The Midway.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 1 (16:02):
That's Doug Gottlieb show Fox Sports Radio. So there are
some like reputations are generally earned, and the Bengals have
a reputation of being cheap, right, and they try to
climb out of that, not just with Joe Burrow's contract,
but Jamar Chase, what's the other wide receiver that they
(16:27):
that they t Higgins. You know, they try to put
all those pieces into place for Joe Burrow and yet
they still have issues, right obviously, you know if not
your best one of your best defensive players is holding out.
And then this was Shamar Stewart. He talked about the
negotiation of the Bengals in his rookie contract.
Speaker 8 (16:50):
Oh all Green Tray will be right, right, but technically
still one percent wrong for being on the contract. So
in my case, I'm a hundred percent's right, so it
should be a no brainer. And Trey's kise I think
it should be a no brainer too. I mean, he
led seventeen and a half sacks for two years back to back.
(17:11):
If I was the GM or I was the owner,
take all my money. But I guess they don't offer
you like that.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
But yeah, I mean, look, he's talking about Trey Hendrickson
and say take all my money. Like, I don't know
if this is a Bengals to This to me is
a kid who doesn't know anything other than he's trying
to ingraciate himself to a really talented teammate. But in
effort to help, I'm not sure you're helping. Let's get
(17:38):
Daniel Jeremiah in here to help us out. Of course,
DJ has to move the Sticks podcast. He also is
the lead analyst for the NFL Network's cover the NFL Draft,
and he's a color analyst for the Chargers Radio network.
What are your thoughts on a rookie talking about Trey
Hendrickson and how he should get all the money.
Speaker 9 (17:59):
Well, it's a it's a simple meeting I think you
have with with players. And I've tried to you know,
when I've had a chance to go speak to college kids,
you know, college teams, I always try and offer some
advice on on media things. And you know, one of
the things I always talk about is the fact that
you know, hey, if anything goes wrong, it's it's a
(18:19):
per you personalize it, it's me. If anything's right, you
you share it, it's we like. That's one of the
what's one of the key components of communicating with media.
The one I need to add to it is that
it's just common sense. You only talk about your contract,
your money, your situation. You never talk or comment on
a femates contract situation that no good is going to
(18:41):
come out of that.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
No, no, And I just he doesn't know what he
doesn't what he doesn't know.
Speaker 9 (18:48):
Yeah, he's not malicious. I mean, it's not like he's
you know, he just got asked a question and doesn't
know that you don't have to answer every question you
get asked, right.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Plus again it's yeah, that's not even close to being
his purview. So I don't know that one. I don't
get that one either. This is the Doug Gottlabs Show.
You're on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, DJ Aaron Rodgers now
officially a Pittsburgh Steeler, what do you think of his
fit with the offense, His fit with the team.
Speaker 9 (19:17):
Well, I mean, I think talent wise, he's an upgrade
over what they played with last year. I'm just curious
to see, you know, is he going to try and
force their hand into you know, running a little more
static offense that he's you know that he's preferred over
the years and has been able to kind of call
the shot, so to speak, because it's just hard to
(19:39):
play that way in the NFL right now. I think
you've got to have more motion shifts, you've got to
be able to condense formations, you've got to be able
to be a little bit unpredictable. So I'm curious to
see how that happens. You know, does he uh, is
he able to buy into some newer school thoughts. That'll
be you know, something I'm keeping an eye on. I
(20:01):
do like the fact that he didn't have a chance
to try and bring in all his buddies and kind
of you know, have the personnel power. He came there
so late that he didn't have that type of influence,
which I think will actually be good for him.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yeah, I mean I'm interested. You mentioned the static offense
meaning not a lot of shifts, not a lot of motion.
What's Arthur Smith's style.
Speaker 9 (20:24):
Yeah, well he wants to you know, he's always wanted
to work off the run. Game play action is going
to be a big part of that. I think he
would like to move guys around a little bit more
than what they've you know, that what Rogers is accustomed to.
So I would imagine, you know, hopefully they at least
meet in the middle, if not in the middle, a
little more towards Arthur's brand than towards you know what
(20:44):
what Aaron's been doing throughout his career.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Stut Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, That's the voice of
Daniel Jeremy DJ Joins is now on the show. Okay,
let's let's bounce around a little bit. Uh. I'm fascinated
by what now with the Detroit Lions. You lose your coordinator,
you lose your center, lose your defensive coordinator as well,
(21:11):
and they never actually got to where they thought they
were destiny get to step back, step forward, lateral step.
What happens with their with the new look Detroit.
Speaker 9 (21:22):
Lions, Well, I think it's it can't even just limit
it to what they've lost and what's gone on, and
they're building. I think you look around that division. And
I'm convinced the Bears are going to be better, you know,
with with what they've done and stealing from the Lions
and where their roster's at. They're in a really good spot.
The Packers still have, you know, their whole young group emerging.
(21:44):
You think they're going to continue to get better. A
little bit TBD with JJ McCarthy and Minnesota, but you know,
I think it's not a great spot to being if
you're Detroit where you've got change and you've got some
you know, some replacing to do, and the bulk of
the division is kind of foot on the gas right now.
So I would be surprised if they didn't take at
least a little bit of a step back. Now. I
(22:06):
think the gap between Philly and everybody else in the NFC,
in my opinion, is still pretty wide. So they could
be in that conversation to be, you know, the number
two or number three team in the conference. But I
think that that gap between them and the Eagles is
pretty sizable for me.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Yeah, it's the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox sportsrait what
about the Eagles. You know, last time they won a superpul,
they lost their coordinators, and their offense took a step back,
especially their offense. Now you lose your offensive coordinator, what
does this offense look like with a more experienced, more
seasons Jalen Hurts at the helm.
Speaker 9 (22:41):
Yeah, I think that. You know, you've got Hurts at
a different place in his career right now. They have
rolled through different voices and different coordinators, So I don't
think that'll be a massive adjustment. I think they kind
of have their identity. When you have an offensive minded
head coach, I think he kind of keeps the framework
the same. So I don't think it'll be as impactful.
Is what Detroit lost in Ben Johnson's So they still
(23:04):
have a ton of depth. They're built the right way.
They have talent in the trenches. You know, they've got
all those young defensive players. I think have another gear
they can tap into. So I'm I'm uh, you know,
I'm pretty bullish on the on the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington
had kind of caught lightning in a bottle last year.
I could see them maybe a little bit of regression
(23:24):
in this next year. The Cowboys are the Cowboys. I mean,
the Giants will be better, but that's you know, that's
a that's still a noticeable Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Yeah, yeah. Who's the quarterback in Indy?
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Man?
Speaker 1 (23:41):
I mean, I just don't like Richardson's always hurt. He's
hurt now it's his shoulder issue. Like at some point
you got to just go, like we got to move on.
Speaker 9 (23:52):
Yeah, I mean I think that you'd like to give
him one one last little look here to see what
it looks like. But uh, you know, it can't be
something we're normally when you have a young quarterback and
like if it's if it's close, you know, you go
with the you know, you go with the young guy
and you live with some of the growing pains. I
don't think that's where they are right now. I think
(24:13):
when you look at that team, if he's going to
win the competition, you know, over Daniel Jones, he needs to,
you know, win it outright. I don't think it's one
of those tie goes to the runner situations. I think
whoever they feel like is one percent better that there's
not going to be stuck on loyalty there with a
with a young draft pick.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Uh, Bryce Young had a Mani resurgence late in the year.
Is that a real thing? Like does is he is
he able to be a competent starting quarterback in this league?
Speaker 9 (24:45):
I think so. I think it is, you know, I
I think it's very similar to Tua. You know. I
think he's dependent on what's around him and how it's
all set up. But you saw with Tua struggles when
that wasn't in place, and then you saw when they
did get that group around him that he was able
to have some success. I think there was a learning
out period there for Dave Canalis, kind of understanding what
(25:06):
he needs and how he can play. But yeah, I
think there's you know, I think there's hope that that
could be real. I don't think he's ever going to
be a top five, you know, top eight quarterback in
the league, Doug, but I think, you know, there's that
second tier group of quarterbacks, you know. I always think
of like Ryan Tannehill kind of being like the poster
child for that type of a player. During his run,
(25:27):
I could see him being in that you know, ten
to ten to fourteen range and being a productive player.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Liam cumb takes over with Jacksonville Jaguars. I read where
his look at Trevor Lawrence was his footwork's a mess.
Let's spend the entire off season cleaning up his footwork.
And I'll tell you, like, as a coach, I like
that because when you don't make it, when you make
it about something like that, it becomes process oriented. Just
(25:56):
worry about your feet and the rest will take care
of yourself. On the other hand, like, you can work
and work and work, but there's gonna be some slippage
and there's still the mental aspect that I don't know
if you can fix until you get to playing real games.
Even then you don't know if it's fixed. What's your
assessment of Trevor Lawrence in the likehood of him getting
back on track to where he was in the playoffs
(26:16):
a couple of years ago.
Speaker 9 (26:18):
Yeah, I mean, I think he's smart. Can't talk about
the footwork that gives him something to focus on, and
you can anybody, you know, it doesn't matter who you
are quarterback wise, you can always improve in that department.
But I think there's two areas with him that have
to be you know, have to be improved. And it's
kind of it's not football y, it's sports related, and
(26:39):
it is number one, stay healthy and number two, regain
your confidence. And you know that's going to come with
some early success. They're more maybe more than any other team.
It's going to be important with this new coach, this
new message, this new vibe they have from their general manager,
that they find some success early in the season and
get complete by in and more than anything else, just
(27:01):
try and recapture the confidence that Trevor Lawrence had in college. Man,
we just haven't seen that.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
I haven't seen it at all. So weird, right, I.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
Mean, he was you thought in the second half of
a playoff game. That was so much time.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
I've seen it, Yes, And that was a crazy, crazy,
crazy playoff game. Speaking of that playoff game, Justin Herbert
was on the other side of it. I think both
you and I, I mean you watched every game. I
tried to watch every snap on TV. Is does he
have the players around him to make the jump?
Speaker 9 (27:35):
I think so. You know, I talked to a college
coach that was at their practice the other day who
was wanting to, you know, just get a chance to
be around the team and see him. And he takes
me back after the practice and was like, I had
no idea that Justin Herbert was that talented, And then
was also kind of blown away by what he saw
(27:56):
from Lad McConkie. I mean, he's got a chance to
be a legit one, you know, just taking that next step.
I think, you know, when you go out and get
a big time running back like they did in the
first round, not only going to be able to run
the football, that's going to be able to influence safeties.
That's going to clean up and open some things up.
Optimistic on Trey Harris. I haven't seen him there yet,
but I'll get a chance to get out there in
(28:18):
training camp and see him at the wide receiver position.
So I think it's going to be a better group
than he had last year. I do think when you
have a running game like that, you can influence some safeties.
That'll make life a little easier.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Sam Donalds struggle at the end of the year when
he was under pressure. Now he goes to a new spot, Mike,
but Donald's his new head coach. Is he twenty four
Sam Donald? Or is he the rest of his career
Sam Donald in Seattle?
Speaker 9 (28:44):
I think he's going to be closer to twenty four.
I think the knowledge that he's gained is going to
really benefit him. I think we talked about the confidence
with Trevor Lawrence. I think Sam was able to define
that last year. You know, we've talked about this before
those two games at the end of the year. The
one at Detroit was was definitely on Sam and he
not played well. The one against the Rams. I mean,
(29:07):
I don't know any any quarterback was going to be
successful with the type of pressure that they were allowing
in that game. So I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
pun on him off that performance. I think they'll be
a little bit of adjustment with the new group there,
but I'm one who believes I think he can play
at Gino level or Gino plus what they've what they've
had there in Seattle, So I'm still optimistic there. I'll
(29:28):
hold on.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Okay, So we got in this discussion a little bit.
I think it was yesterday j stew In regards to
rivalries and nemesis. Are the Padres the rival of the
Dodgers or are the Dodgers the nemesis of the Padres?
Do you think the Padres are the nemesis of the
Dodgers because of one playoff series? Give me the honest
(29:50):
rivalry talk.
Speaker 9 (29:52):
Yeah, I think it's However, you want to define it.
I think that this you know, rivals historically, let's I'll
put that the side. If you asked anybody, and I
talked a bunch of different baseball gms, you know, on
a pretty frequent basis, and I was at the game
last night. This is the best matchup in baseball right now.
(30:12):
I you know, I refer to it as a rivalry
because that's just this match is what that looks like
when they play either place, the stadium is rocking. It's
a playoff atmosphere. And I know the Giants are their
historic rivals, but those games don't have the same heat
as these games do. And I can attest to that
based off last night when the three Dodger fans sitting
(30:33):
a robe behind behind me get kicked out of the stadium.
So anyway, and.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
As as we're talking, uh, Doug, this is Jason Stewart.
By the way, Andy Pajs just sheets at the price
still zero zero.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Now.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
One thing to add to that rivalry thing, Yeah, I
think rivals have to have both teams acknowledge that their arrival.
I think the Potters want to be the Dodgers' rival.
And then it's been the case for quite some time
and I will give you guys credit. You guys won
the season series last year before we won the entire
World Series, and then you you beat us in the
playoffs before not making the World Series two years ago.
(31:12):
So I know you guys are feeling yourselves, but it's
not a rivalry. I'm sorry.
Speaker 9 (31:17):
Well, I would agree to disagree with Chaste on that one.
I think that I think it's a rivalry when your
manager has to concoct some cock and mamie story about
somebody throwing a ball into the dugout because you're so
you're so tight that you're going to get knocked out
in the first round for the third year in a row.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Did they get knocked out in the first round? Uh?
Speaker 9 (31:35):
No, that last year was the first time in three
years they did not get knocked out in the first round.
Want to pay roll about one hundred and fifty million
dollars more than everybody else? You know?
Speaker 3 (31:42):
That was last year?
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Please again the the but what the uh uh? I'm
not gonna We're not gonn allow the Padres to claim poverty,
and we're not gonna like when I go into that happened,
that doesn't happen here.
Speaker 9 (31:54):
I would like to think with an extra hundred and
fifty million dollars, we could have got one more win
and knocked him out of the playoffs. But that's maybe
I'm stretching there. Maybe we just want that's spent that wisely.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Or just complete the task when you have the lead
in the series.
Speaker 9 (32:06):
Also in order, we had them dead to right.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Dead to right, did not finish. Coffees for closers, no
coffee at pet gout. Thanks for joining us, dj Anybuddy.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
In I don't know.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
Remember they did a lot of harmonizing, and then they
had a guy that was just dedicated to the falsetto.
I don't know his name, not totally familiar.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Isn't that the opposite of falsetto? The deep one false?
Speaker 1 (33:20):
The high?
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Oh, what's what's the bass one?
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Called baritone?
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Baritone?
Speaker 3 (33:27):
I do know that, like Brian Wilson.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Lying in bed like Brian Wilson did.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
He's like the musicians musician like you always just hear
other artists rave about how Brian Wilson revolutionized music. I
can't really put a finger on what it was because
a lot of the stuff is what we just played,
kind of the pop stuff. But pet Sounds is regarded
among the industry as like the album that revolutionized music.
(33:56):
I can't tell you really why, but I do I've
heard that a lot.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Well, let's get a musician on at some point and
put it on the pod and we can figure out why.
The meantime, lets get to the press of Dan Bayer.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
The press.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Lion in bed just like Brian Wilson did. Well, I'm
lion in bed like Brian Wilson did. What you got
there Doug Tarres.
Speaker 6 (34:22):
Haliburton mentioned yesterday feeling some discomforts in his lower left leg.
Sham's reporting today on ESPN that Halliburton's dealing with an
ankle issue, but he's not on the injury report. The
Pacers star guard is expected to start tonight's Game three
against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Well, pulling the lebron would be losing in this series
and then showing up in a cast to the postgame presser.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Right, yes, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Remember he had the right, he had the he had
the thumb wrist thing on yep. Then this year it
was the I got the I got the MCLs rerain.
Speaker 6 (34:58):
I don't I don't know if you has discussed this
in the pod, but I saw it was on one
of our text chains, the lack of interest in tonight's
Game three from notable sports television programming. And I do
think that this schedule has killed the series.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
It is, I.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
Swear to you, Dan, I didn't know. I thought it
was Sunday Thursday, Sunday Thursday, Sunday Thursday, and like, hey,
there's a game tonight, Like really, And then I saw
the text and I just assume there's no game tonight.
Speaker 6 (35:29):
I understand why they do it, and there's gonna be
a quick turnaround. They're gonna play a game Friday in Indianapolis.
It'll be Wednesday Friday. It's the only time where there's
just one day of rest between games. Otherwise it's two
and now we go two to two, one one one. However,
the Thunder closed out the Timberwolves two weeks ago today,
so they've played a total of two games in those
(35:50):
two weeks.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
You mean the Nuggets, No, the Timberwolves. Well, they played
the Nuggets. Oh no, they'd be right. Nuggets were four Timberolves.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
Yeah, yes, sorry, sorry, okay, So like there wasn't even
any basketball then that series only went five games, So
there hasn't been. And it's easy when it's Steph or
Lebron's in the finals or maybe Magic Johnson, Larry Bird,
Michael Jordan to be of interest. But the issues that
were brought out, and I was one that said, hey,
I'm looking for a great finals, and it could end
(36:21):
up being a good finals, but there is no momentum
being carried over right now. And I think it's because
of the enormous breaks that they've had between these games,
and can I just.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Offer up a possible suggestion is if the idea is
a like give them the break before the finals, but
then have the finals be every other day, and then
I don't mind if back to back home games, they
can play back to back nights, like make it a
really hard thing for them. It's the last series, and
we gave you like a week off to rest and
(36:50):
recover for it. Absolutely, but it's too long. It's too boring.
As a basketball guy, mentally, it's hard for me.
Speaker 6 (37:00):
Dallas Mavericks denied the next permission to speak with head
coach Jason Kidd about their head coaching vacancy.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
It's you're always able to do it. No one ever
does this, but you are absolutely able to do it. Now,
can you still become their head coach? Yeah? You can
resign your job. And if there's you know, now, if
there is there a non compete in your job, I
don't know. All right, that's the first who you got.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Tonight, Dan Barr Pacers.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
I get the Pacers as well. Maybe we'll have a
serious wake up tomorrow. This is Doug Gotlib Show, Fox
Sports Radio.
