Welcome in.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Thanks so much for listening, making us part of your day.
We truly appreciate it. Got some friars against the Dodgers.
A little discussion over that series upcoming. Daniel Jeremiah's going
to join us Move with the Sticks podcast, pleass he'll
talk about the Padres Dodgers because he's our resident Padres

(00:50):
homer chased to a resident Dodgers Homer. More on that
to come. It's a Wednesday. Wednesday's the middle of the week.
It's uh one o'clock on the West Coast. Generally your day,
it's kind of the middle of our show. If you
haven't listened to the show before, we have a one
hour podcast that we dropped at the at the as
soon as this hour of the radio show completes it self,

(01:12):
so there's three hours. So middle of the day, middle
of the show, middle of the week, we get to
something called the Midway.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
It's not getting the middle it's time for the.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Midway.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Midway can be kind of anything, sort of debatable topic,
interesting thing to expound upon, and it's kind of a
group of things. Projects Jay sdu where we land on today.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Thank you, Doug. I'll take it from here. I wanted
to discuss something or maybe do kind of a retro
retro look back to an hour ago. Dan Byer made
a point on this show, and it might even it
might even be more interesting than the topics we discussed
from the Midway. Earlier before the show, Dan made the

(01:55):
point that it was interesting to see what Caitlin Clark's
mate's reaction was to the confrontations last night. So what
we already covered the fact that the officials are not
doing a great job of protecting the star player. We
covered the fact that there are obviously opponents with acts

(02:17):
to grind with Caitlyn Clark, But what about our teammates
and specifically Aliah Boston's role last night, Dan.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
I always look to see how the teammates respond, and
last night was the second time in a row that
I can remember that there was an incident involving Caitlyn Clark.
And what Aliah Boston does is she goes and tries
to almost calm down the other person, the other player
on the team. So in the Angel Rees scenario, when

(02:52):
Caitlin Clark had the herd take foul and Angel Reese exploded,
Aliah Boston.

Speaker 6 (02:57):
Comes up and tries to hold angel Reese back.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
And then last night, when you see Maybury level Caitlyn Clark,
Aleah Boston comes in from behind, not to confront Maybury,
but almost to try to separate her. And so it's
very weird that there isn't a it's not a running
to Caitlin Clark to make sure that she's okay, or

(03:22):
running to hold her back, and it's not let's get
in the face of the person who just is trying
to attack my teammate or going after my teammate. There's
none of that. It's a very weird thing and that's
why I brought it up. Where the Sophie Cunningham foul
is look, her own teammate has showed I've got your back,
just like we saw last night with the Dodgers and

(03:42):
Padres right pitches, Otani gets plunked. There's a back and
forth because teams. That's part of the game. And I
don't think all of Caitlyn Clark's teammates last year, I'm
not sure there are any. But this year, I still
am not sure that everybody is all in. I'll tell
you one thing though, I know Sophie cunning Is She's
got her back because she did what any good teammate

(04:03):
would do.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
So I was thinking, you know, the old Crochet action
speak louder than words. What other examples can we think
of in the exact same game. I will say this
and you guys fill in the blanks. There was the
actual incident where the point guard that Sam Wester bring
up played at Ohio State, poked Caitlin in the eye

(04:26):
or something. Caitlyn pushes back to that teammate don't know
her name, and then her son J K Cy Sheldon
J C.

Speaker 6 (04:38):
Sheldon. J. C.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Sheldon's teammate to Dan's point, came in and shoved Kaitlyn
Clark to the ground. The sacred cow of the league.
In defending her teammate pushed her to the ground. Again,
actions speak louder than words. You see Aleah Boston and
Caitlyn Clark talk about how great teammates they are to

(05:01):
each other, you see them in commercials, you see them
on the sidelines of games. But is all of that
just for show? Because I think what it comes down
to is we all work with people we dislike, and
I think our actions in moments when we can or
would defend them would speak wider than actual words.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
I gotta say, I think it depends. I gotta say,
I think it's because I can also process in my
mind if you're a Leah Boston and I don't Again,
we don't know anything about relationships with the opposing team,
with the Connecticut side, but there are certain women. I'm
sure that they're not mad at Caitlin. It's not that

(05:48):
they don't have her back, they're just tired of all.
Like I mean, I've gotten to the place like we're
really like this is we're still doing this. So I
do think there's a part of it is like money
has beenet I ain't in it. I'm done. But generally, yeah,
Sophie Cunningham. That's one. She can be in the you know,
she could be in the pup tet with me as

(06:10):
long as she wants, because she clearly is on team Caitlyn.
So it's not for everybody. Everybody doesn't have to come
to a defense. Everybody doesn't have to be that teammate.
I do like the more teammates than not. I agree
with some of what Dan's saying, but I also think
we have to process that there's likely some of those
teammates are just worn down.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
By the Are we still doing this? This is so dumb, so.

Speaker 7 (06:33):
Dumb, and Dan Dockuts just point from last hour. You know,
he said something that I think a lot of especially
coming from being in Indianapolis or a guy from Indiana.
Caitlyn's a bit of a flopper and when when Marina
Maybrey hip checked her, she kind of bounced off her
like rubber. So maybe Leah Boston was like, oh boy,
this again. But you know, I've Sophie cunning says at all.

(06:57):
Sophie Cunningham is uh a role player. She's a bench player.
She can assume the role of being a bit of
an enforcer. She can she has fouls to give. I
think Boston can't be that enforcer role because she's a
prime part of the offense.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
She doesn't do anything. She doesn't but she doesn't even
come to Caitlyn Clark's.

Speaker 6 (07:19):
Yeah, I don't. I don't.

Speaker 7 (07:19):
I don't know the inner workings. All I can say
is from the outside everything.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
Doug, this is what went I'm during the break is
I have a question on whether they're really friends. And
we see this in postgame press conferences Eleah Boston and
Caitlyn Clark, and the reason is, listen, there would be
a natural rivalry rivalry just like there was with J. C.
Sheldon Aliah Boston on South Carolina when South Carolina beat

(07:46):
Iowa for the national championship. Who's celebrating with South Carolina
Aliah Boston. She wasn't even on that team. She was like,
so she celebrating the year before? Yeah, correct by Caitlin.
So she's celebrating with her team that she didn't even
play for that year. I get she was a part
of the program, but now she comes in and she
was the number one overall pick before Caitlyn was there.

(08:07):
She was supposed to be the cats meou and now
Caitlyn Clark comes in, and there's absolutely so, there's plenty
of reason for jealousy. And to see a group of
Fever players sitting courtside in an NBA Finals game doesn't
mean they're friends. It means, hey, guys, I got you tickets.
The team wants you there. I think it'd be good,

(08:27):
be good for the w Why don't you all sit
there and cheer on the Pacers. And that doesn't mean like, hey,
I got three tickets tonight, Lee, I'm not going to
invite other teammates. I want you to come. I don't
think that we can assume that. And I just seeing her,
her reactions were lacked thereof she didn't even do anything
last night. She just kind of stood there, and I

(08:48):
felt like, somebody who has their back needs to at
least take care of your teammate or go and find
somebody else to, you know, rough up with.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
But it has not happened, dude.

Speaker 7 (08:58):
That sounds like what Sophie Cunningham is a assume that
she sounds like she's assumed that rule.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
Yes, and she hasn't even she's been on the team
for what two months this year?

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (09:05):
Yeah, I mean maybe maybe the way Sophie Cunningham defense
Kaitlyn Clark on the court is emblematic of their greater
relationship in the way that Boston.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
Does not you do as a teammates.

Speaker 7 (09:17):
Yeah, but I mean there's a difference between teammates and
then being friends. Like I think that I'm just saying
in general, nothing has led me to believe that there's
any kind of issue between Kaitlyn Clark and Leah Boston.
They've spoke glowingly about each other. They have good chemistry.
I think that if they're coworkers there, they very much
get along and they're very productive together. So I think
everything's good in that in that in that sense, But yeah,

(09:40):
I mean you could you're free to question Aleah Boston's
you know, actions after that. Why aren't you coming to
our defense more? Why don't you get in the face
of Sheldon or Maybury?

Speaker 5 (09:50):
And why did I take a player who just joined
the team two months ago to be able to do this?

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah? No, I you know, again, we don't know the wiry.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
And also, like here's another thing, Eliah Boston, she played
an unrival that three on three league that I mean
again only saw in some of the low lights of
some of the others, of Angel Reese and others. But
the point is, I get this. This is the biggest
issue I.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Believe with the women's game.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
It's there is so much jealousy. It's crazy, and it's
so bad that Dan, I'm with you. You're left to wonder, like,
what's the deal there? It may be very little, It
may be I just I don't do that whatever, But
it also could be very likely that she didn't really
like her. It's like playing with her, it's fine, but

(10:40):
they're not friends. And oh yeah, by the way, like,
as you point out.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
She was a great college player. She'd been a good player.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
And you know now you know, think about Kaitlyn Clark.
She chose not to play in the three on three league, right,
but some if you're playing on it, now, hey listen,
if you're really about helping me, if I'm elea Boston,
you're really about helping me and helping all women's sports
playing the three on three league, it'll bring all that
attention to three on three league and we'll all get

(11:06):
rich because of it. So there's lots of different things
that you could pick apart. We don't know, but it
is fair to at least make that assumption based upon
her lack of reaction.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Isn't that amazing that she chose not to do unrivaled?

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Right?

Speaker 4 (11:20):
I think that was of all the things that Caitlin
Clark has done that kind of makes you smile and
you're proud when she just said, nah, I'm good. You
guys need me much more than I need you, and
you just left me off the Olympic team, so screw off.
There was a very forgettable reliever and this is just

(11:41):
a tangible sports example. And I think the reason why
this topic interests me is because I've been in the
locker room. Right, I've been on a team. If you
play team sports, you understand this that you you play
with teammates that you don't necessarily like. Right. So there
was this very forgettable reliever for the Giants named Hunter Strickland.

(12:03):
In a regular season game in twenty seventeen, he decided
to hit Bryce Harper on the back with a fastball.
His catcher hall of fame to be Buster Posey, chose
not to follow Bryce Harper out to the mound, who
proceeded to throw punches at the reliever. To me, that

(12:24):
action spoke louder than any words you could ever speak
between those teammates. Right, that's a teammate telling the world
what he thinks of his teammate. And that's why I
think this is interesting, these little interer dynamics between a
Leah Boston and Caitlin Clark. And there's been other examples
as well.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
You know, C. C.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
Sabathia is going to be a Hall of Famer this
summer when he gets enshrined. I think that's this summer.
I don't think it's already happened. Point being is one
of the things that we remember about C. C. Sabathia
is the hat. I remember what he did with the rulers.
He also had the opportunity to cash in on a
five hundred thousand dollars bonus to reach an incentive in

(13:07):
his contract, and instead threw at a hitter and got
ejected because both benches were warned and lost five hundred
thousand dollars on it, and because that's what you do
as a teammate. Last night, for his man, as Dave
Roberts was in the Padres Dodgers game and about the
warnings and whatnot, the one thing he did can see

(13:28):
was well they plunked Otani in the leg. It wasn't
like they went for It wasn't a cheap shot. He
understood the game. We all understood the game. Sophie Cunningham's
follow last night happened with forty seven seconds left when
they're up by seventeen. How easy of it would have
been to just let her score run out the clock.
But no, I'm going to send a message. Sure, there

(13:48):
is another player on the fever and I've watched the
different angle and it's Sydney Colson, who's apparently been in
the league for a while. And you know what she did.
As soon as she saw Clark get hip checked, she
ran to the area and checked on Clark. She didn't
have to fight Maybury. She probably wouldn't have won the fight,

(14:09):
but at least she did something for a teammate instead
of why is Caitlin Clark sitting here laying on the ground.
She sprinted from the far corner and actually got closer
to Caitlin Clark than Leah Boston ever did.

Speaker 6 (14:21):
That's a fair point.

Speaker 7 (14:22):
I just everybody does little different things to de escalate
a situation, right.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Well, the other part is, and this is I always
felt like Shaq was like this too.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
One thing we have.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
To realize is there are a lot of athletes who
have never been involved in a fight, especially that of
female athletes. Right, Like I always thought Shaq was you know,
Shaq was all huff and buster. He's so big you
would push people, and I think, who do you take
a swing at?

Speaker 6 (14:52):
Chris Dudley.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
Chris Dudley, Right.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
But it wasn't like, you know, he'll take like a
Kung Fu stance or like a Nata marsh charge stance,
but he won't necessarily like most I'll just tell you
the rule. Most times, if you're gonna fight, somebody, fight
the biggest dude on the court. Because in basketball, those
guys are like six eight to seven feet tall. They've

(15:16):
never been in fights because nobody ever wants to mess
with them, so they legitimately you watch them fight, a
lot of those guys don't know how to fight, whereas
you're a little guy and you just kind of tackle
them and just start kind of doing the Tasmanian devil
whirling Durbis thing, whereas somebody five ten to six five,

(15:36):
they've been in fights, don't want to mess with them.
Sure that again, that's just my personal respect. Oh yeah,
they take the women's game. And I don't know how
many of these women never been in a fight, right. My
guess is Caitlin Clark never been in a fight until
these you know, they kind of like she's literally never
been in a fist fight.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Just a guess. And Chase, du Were you ever in
a fight when you're a kid?

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Never? Never one?

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Really? Dan?

Speaker 6 (16:05):
Just elementary school, you know scuffle?

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Where was it a after school?

Speaker 6 (16:12):
After school? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
But where was the location? Elementary?

Speaker 6 (16:14):
It was on the way on the way home from walking.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Would say, They'd say on the way home, or would
they Because at Jordan Elementary it was.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
At the ditch the ditch.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
I'll meet you at the ditch.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
The ditch, the ditch, three o'clock.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
Three o'clock, let's go. But I would go Sun High.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Ditch.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
My fight I thought was over when I pinned him
because I was in wrestling and I didn't know like
how it would end. So I just took the kid
in the headlock and threw him to the ground and
then went, oh yeah, I had him pinned for three seconds.
I had thought that I had won the fight because
I had pinned him, But there was.

Speaker 6 (16:50):
No referee there to claim you claim you as a champion.
Oh no, no, it did not happen. And instead of that,
you let up and the guy who just start swinging again. Yeah,
we were like.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
The b To Elementary was behind the kindergarten building that
was four through six, but k through third it was
Jordan Elementary.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
The ditch. Just want to point that.

Speaker 7 (17:10):
Out that you at the ditch at the second recess
of the day. We're going to settle the score.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Couldn't do second recess because he did second recess. Then
you had to leave campus campus during the second recess.

Speaker 6 (17:20):
The ditch was slightly off campus.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Okay, yeah, through the gate on the way to Lemed
in the library.

Speaker 6 (17:25):
I just want to quick say one thing.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
I know we have to go, but I've watched this
video and Aliah Boston actually looks at Maybury walking away
and does nothing.

Speaker 6 (17:35):
She didn't do anything in all of this. She honestly
looked at her, had an opportunity to do something, and
then just stood there. Sophie Cunningham, by the way, she
ran right to the fracas, right to it, right to
ja into the fire.

Speaker 7 (17:49):
Yes, Dan's team, there's more to this than there's more
to this nine team.

Speaker 6 (17:55):
It's not that deep that excuse me. It was Lexi Hall.
It's Lexi Hall.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
I'm starting I'm starting to get with Dan as well.
I'd also point out that she's Sophie cunning Him's not America.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Right, she aussy.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
I think she's American.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
She's American. I don't know. She's becoming an American hero.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Lexi Holme was the one that also ran to so
she's Sophie from Missouri.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
From Missouri, missourra all right, becoming an American hero, folk
hero for multitude of reasons.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
That is the Midway.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
The Midway. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search
FSR to listen live.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. M mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
If you're just joining us, we talking a lot about
this kerfuffle. That was a kerfuffle last night. More than
a scuffle? Was it a scuffle or kerfuffle? A little
bit of both, A skirfuffle, scuffle, scuffle.

Speaker 7 (19:09):
A dust up, a skerfuffle, a scuffle, a kerfuffle, a skerfuffle.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Yes, that's it's it's all of those things. And yeah,
I mean I'm with you Dan, like I'll so.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
So.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Dan's point, and it's a good one, is don't watch
just the the actors within the play. Watch everybody else,
and specifically Caitlin's teammates. And we've said this before with
other people's teammates. It's just like, watch your teammates. If
they don't all come to her defense, something's up. And
here's a Leah Boston, one of the other league players
on the fever, and she literally did nothing. Uh, I

(19:48):
didn't did nothing, nada, nada. She said, my name's Bennett,
and I ain't in it.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
But if you're, if you're the coaches, do you address
that situation with your place?

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Yes, of course should have been addressed beforehand. But yes,
you know, we established again this is something I've seen
done and we established, you know, like in our in
our practices, in everything we do. If a guy goes
to the floor, everybody stops and goes and helps them up.
Everybody and in fights, and this is something that we've
we've actually practiced, is like the first person there, okay,

(20:26):
the first person there, and and you know in men's basketball,
women's basketball is the same. Can't come off the bench, right,
So the first person there, their job is to grab
their teammate and get them out of there. And then
everybody else is like wall builder, Just build a wall
in between. Be peacekeepers, you know, put your hands in
the air so you're not you know, so it shows

(20:46):
that you're not using them to hit anybody, and you're
just kind of the human wall. But what we taught
him is first guy there, grab him, get your get
your teammate out of there, don't look at him, don't
talk trash, don't do anything. Just get your grab your
teammate and be in between them and any sort of
trouble and push them in the direction away from trouble.

(21:08):
That way they're not seen as the aggressor. But yeah,
it's absolutely addressed. Absolutely, And once it comes back on film,
that's an interesting film session, like hey, Leo, what are
you doing here?

Speaker 2 (21:25):
What are you doing here? We'll get with Daniel Jeremiah
in a moment.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
First, let me gets you to Dan Byer get a
quick update on everything in sports TV.

Speaker 5 (21:32):
What you got Game time Decision is the words from
Rick Carlile on the status of Tyree's Halliburton. Halliburton met
the media today saying that he did practice, but confirmed
he's dealing with a calf strain and says he's going
to do everything he can to face the thunder tomorrow.
Game six of the NBA Finals is tomorrow night in Indianapolis.
Ravens at Friedge and quarter jay U Alexander came to
terms on a one year contract. It's worth four million dollars,

(21:55):
bonuses could push it up to six million dollars, according
to reports. Those reports I also say that Alexander had
an opportunity to sign elsewhere for more money, but chose
to play in Baltimore. The Houston Texans are expected to
sign former first round pick cornerback Damon Arnette. He hasn't
played in the NFL since twenty twenty two, spent this
pass spring with the Houston Roughnecks of the UFL Red

(22:16):
Sox League. The Mariners won nothing right now, as they
play in the second inning in Seattle, Sportico reports that
raised or Stu Sternberg's on the verge of selling the
team for one point seven billion dollars to a group
from Florida that's led by the CEO and President of
Dreamfinder Homes Patrick Seleupski College Baseball. Coastal Carolina leads Louisville
eight to three in the bottom of the sixth inning

(22:37):
in Omaha. Coastal wins this one, they will advance to
the championship best of three series. If Louisville wins, these
two teams will have to play again, as Coastal has
yet to lose in Omaha.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Doug back to you, Nice, Doug Gotland Shaw, Doug Otlan Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Daniel Jeremiah joins us. Now, of course
DJ is supposed to be a football analyst. We're here
to talk about the NFL, but he's such a big
Podgers and Padres Dodgers at the ravine, Jay Stu would

(23:12):
would you would you like to take us through the
theatrics of what took place last night?

Speaker 4 (23:17):
Well, it started two nights ago. It started two nights ago.
Our outfielder Andy Pajies did not take too kindly to
being hit he thought was on purpose, and it kind
of carried over by the way Pajes has just been
wearing out the Podras in the last two games at
the plate, and it carried over into last night. In

(23:38):
fact going into the game where maybe even after the
game on on Monday, it was Manny Machado has said, hey,
they got a lot of stars. If we're going to
get into a we hit them, they hit us. They've
got a lot of stars to hit. Rarely do you
hear an athlete say that out loud? That was kind
of weird, kind of broke the what is it the

(24:00):
fifth wall whatever the word is. And then last night, yeah,
a couple hit batters. Shoho Tani was hit in the
knee region.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Dave Roberts before he can get five feet out of
the dugout was kicked out of the game. Both both
the teams were warned. And then later on the game
somebody was hit and nobody was tossed. Do I have
all those details correct, Daniel?

Speaker 5 (24:23):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 8 (24:24):
I mean it's some some interpretation stuff in there, but
of the facts of what you just said for sure
hundred percent right. The uh on the hit hit batter stuff.
First of all, at that point in the game when
Pie has got hurt two nights ago, I mean, don't
see struck out the first five batters of the game.
They hadn't really done anything against him. I don't think

(24:44):
it was. You know, he's hitting pie Has because he
was tearing him up at that point in time. He
got hot. After that he hit him on an elbow
guard and he's like, come on, nobody's trying to hit
you on purpose. There, So that that is what it is,
no big deal. And then even Dave Roberts set out
the game that pa has overreacted. So that's even on
the Dodgers side of things. So put that one to bed,

(25:05):
and the other stuff was just baseball. They hit Fernando
Tattis last week, then they hit him again in the
back this week, and so they put one in show
he knee, which is how you handle that. You don't
you don't go up anywhere upstairs. You hit him in
the knee, and that should be over. But Dave Roberts
took a couple of steps out and got tossed and
and there you go.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
You guys done?

Speaker 8 (25:28):
Is that? I mean?

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Are you guys done?

Speaker 8 (25:30):
The other thing I would just say, Doug real quick,
is that nobody remembers last year that the Padres went
eight and five against the Dodgers in the regular season.
And I say that as a Padre fan because none
of this stuff matters. We blew it in the playoffs
and lost to the Dodgers, so they can go ahead
and win all these regular season games and we'll see
what happens in the postseason. So that's that's where we
that's as a Padre fan, that's kind of where we are.

(25:51):
We suck right now. I'm not gonna I'm not going
to candy coat that.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
I want to say too, Daniel that you did take
exception to the sound that emanated from Shohio Tawny when
he was hitting the knee. Now, it was just a
very loud kind of screech. Getting hitting the knee by
a ninety fastball hurts.

Speaker 8 (26:12):
Yeahs took one in the back and kind of brushed
it off and ran on the first base, And it
was more of kind of like a Monica Sellus like
wheel maybe after getting hit in the knee, uh calf regions.
Maybe I just never had heard that before. It was interesting.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
I checked.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
I checked on my Japanese friends that screech was Japanese
for scoreboard.

Speaker 8 (26:32):
Uh oh, I thought it was Japanese for over four
with four strikeouts?

Speaker 1 (26:36):
What bird? Doug Gottlieb Show, You're on Fox Sports Radio
will separate these these.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Two teenagers and get to get to the NFL.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Henry Ruggs apologized to the victims. It was really a
woman and her dog who were killed when he was
drunk driving in May of twenty three. Does he get
another chance in the NFL when he gets out.

Speaker 8 (27:06):
I think he will, I do. I think. Look, it's
such just an awful situation. I can just you know,
what happened is it's indefensible. I don't know him. I've
never met him, but I do all my homework before
the draft process, and the people at Alabama loved him
like he was the last person you would have thought

(27:29):
would put himself in that situation to you know, take
a person's life by what you know, being so reckless. Oh,
it did sound. I thought a little bit of that
the other day. He did sound someone who is contrite
and sincere. And he's gonna be you know, he'll have
paid his penalty. It's included a lot of jail time,

(27:50):
and he's he'll be out when he's still at an
age where you know, there's there's still some some space
for him to try and create a life for himself.
And that's just like you would be coming out of
prison and trying to get a job in some other
walk of life. If you're capable, you should get an opportunity.
You paid your you paid your penalty, and you get

(28:11):
a chance to work again. So I would absolutely think
he'll get another opportunity.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Stuck out the Shaw on Fox Sports Radio, Let's get
more on the field stuff, jied Alexander signs with the Ravens.
Is he a fit for how they play defensively?

Speaker 8 (28:24):
Yeah, I think so. I think he's pretty scheme diverse.
I mean, he can he can play up, he can
play off, he can play man. I mean he's a
really really gifted His thing is just stay healthy. So
you know that's going to be the Ravens challenges is
you know, being able to sustain him and run him
out on the field. I do think sometimes when you
get these guys who've had injuries, Doug and you get
a chance to go, you know, to a team who's

(28:46):
perennially a playoff team and has a lot of depth
and look not to get back into the baseball thing.
But that's kind of the Dodgers. The benefit of being
a team that's got that type of depth and talent
that you can. You know, jyr Alexander needs to miss
a few games during the year and they kind of
baby him. All they care about is the postseason is
just being you know, one hundred percent and raring to
go once they get to the playoffs, and it's hard

(29:07):
to look at that Ravens team and sign the world
where they're not in the postseason.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
S Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio, I want
to play for you some Russell Wilson sound and have
you ever heard of the Tyson Zone? Jay Dana Jeremiah's
our guest Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Trader DJ
of course lead analyst NFL Network covering the NFL Draft.
He's the Chargers lead analyst on the radio network and
of course on the NFL Network. You can see the

(29:32):
Move the Sticks tremendous podcast. The Tyson Zone is something
that Bill Simmons kind of invented, and the idea is
there isn't a story about Mike Tyson that you wouldn't
believe to be true, right, Okay, so you're laughing.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Because you're like, yeah, it's fair, Okay, that's fair. I
want to.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
Invent the Russell Wilson zone, which is there isn't anything.
Russell Wilson says that I believe to be how he
really feels. Case in Boyd here's Russell Wilson when he's
asked what it's been like to be with the Giants
so far?

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Man, it's been a joy.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
I think, you know, if I described it to just
the joy to be able to do what I love
to do, number one, at number two, to deal with
the people that you that you really want to be around.
I think that obviously the players, I means just the
amount of guy I remember going to Atlanta Throne with
the guys, are going to being in San Diego Throe
with the guys, and also to just being here an
extra time that we put in, you know, watching film,

(30:28):
doing that necessary things to be great.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Now, Look, there's there's part of me DJ that says, hey,
he probably should feel really good about this because it's
probably his last great shot to be a starter in
the NFL. Right, But gosh, he lays it on so thick.
It's just very difficult.

Speaker 8 (30:46):
Yeah, But I don't think he's changed, you know, in
some ways.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
I don't.

Speaker 8 (30:51):
It doesn't bother me just because he's always kind of
been that and that's who he is, and that's you know,
kind of eternally positive and over the top with that
and you know, big energy, belief, all those things, and
some you know sometimes and most times people think, oh,
this is just kind of silly. He surely doesn't believe it.

(31:12):
I think he just kind of that's that's who he is.
I'd have more problem if somebody wasn't like that and
then tried that on for size. I feel like with
Russ like it's been pretty consistent. I mean, he's I
go back to when you know, I was interviewing him
at the Senior Bowl when I was scouting, and he
asked for my phone number, and I was with the Eagles,
and he would text me every you know, every couple

(31:34):
of weeks and say, if the Eagles draft me, I'm
going to lead you guys to multiple Super Bowls. That's
what he was texting me as a young scout, you know,
a long long time ago. So that's I don't know
that he's changed, and would you agree with that. I
think he's the same guy that he's kind of always been.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
I feel like he's gotten a little cheesier and cheesier
it's gotten a little bit more over the top.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
I could be being unfair, but that would be my see.

Speaker 8 (31:57):
I think it's I would say I think he's I
don't think he's any cheesier. I think it comes across
more cheesy when you're not as good of a player.
I think his talent has eroded. I don't think he's
nearly the same player, But I think we don't really
pay attention to someone who talks big plans and big
dreams when they're you know, going to the playoffs and
a pro bowler and you have some Super Bowls. But

(32:19):
that just seems so far in the rear view mirror
that that makes this sound cheesier. But I kind of
feel like it's kind of the same as it's always been.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Yeah, last thing, Aden hutchinson't gonna play coming back to
that gruesome injury. No extension. I mean, if I'm Detroit,
no chance I signed good extension. Do I see him
play correct?

Speaker 8 (32:37):
Yeah? I know what to saying. I don't need to
see a lot of it, but I'd like to see
at least let's get through training camp and you know,
see him move around and and make sure he's the
same guy, which all accounts. You hope that that's going
to be the case, and likely will be the case,
but there's no reason to do that now. You might
just wait a little bit.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Okay, we have to conclude this interview. Are you guys good?

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Right? I just want to make sure Jay Su DJ's
important to show.

Speaker 4 (33:03):
But I've got the broom out for the sweep today.

Speaker 8 (33:06):
I'm not gonna lie to you. I think there's a
good chance you could. I'll be getting the broom moji
from him in a couple of days. Here we're not
where we need to be right now, but that's it's
a skits October and see what it looks like then.
But Jay Sue's got the honors right now. I can't
deny that.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
DJ are the best man. Great support, priscers.

Speaker 8 (33:24):
Jinas, I love you like Jay Stue.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
We'll talk later, Gottlieb show Fox Sports.

Speaker 1 (33:29):

Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Okay, huge huge, huge
huge huge huge huge huge breaking news from the world
of sports and the world of sports business. Let's get
you to the one and only Dan Byer, Who's got
that news for us?

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Dan Breaking news from Fox Sports.

Speaker 5 (34:38):
A report from ESPN says that the Bus family has
entered into an agreement to sell a majority share of
the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter, the CEO and
chairman of the holding company TWG Global. He leads the
Guggenheim Group. If I'm correct, J Stewart, which owns the Dodgers,

(35:02):
but the Los Angeles Lakers a majority share of their
ownership stake being sold by the Bus family to Mark Walter.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Is there a number? No number?

Speaker 6 (35:12):
Literally, the tweet came down at four eight Eastern time.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
No, No, I got it. I saw it as well.
I didn't know you have.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
You have a little bit better follows than I do,
and obviously do this for a living. So I just
sitting there going, what what is the number? Okay, There's
a bunch of different things that I'll discuss in this, okay,
And if you don't care, that's fine. But from a
basketball perspective, I would say in the short term, not
a lot change. Long term, massive change.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Massive.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
Lakers are a mom and pop family run very frugal
with everyone in the organization outside of the players. Also,
you know they're they're now They're gonna be you know
they they They and the Kings still have Staples, but
most people believe Staples either needs a redo in the

(36:04):
next couple of years or do the Lakers need to
build their own building, and that that's going to be interesting.
But when you when you turn it over new ownership,
my expectation would be that there will.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Be all new people. Now.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
I don't know about Rob Polinka, because Polinka pulled off
the Luca trade, and I don't think you could argue
that is one of the great heists in the history.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
In the history of trades in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Not because Anthony Davis not a hell of a player,
but it it gives them a sunrise after the sunset
of Lebron whenever that is. I don't know if he
has any relationship with Lebron. Obviously they That's one of
the reasons that they want Magic involved with the Dodgers,
is some of those edges where he actually does anything
or not.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
That's fascinating.

Speaker 1 (36:54):
You know, are they into Jj Reddick, Are they into
Rob Polinka? Are they into anybody else? My guest would
be in the next probably two years complete they clear
clean house of all that stuff as soon as Lebron retires.
But and then, and then what does it mean for
the Lakers? Where do they play? And then the last
thing is and I've always always thought this when we

(37:17):
were kids, Okay, the people with the big houses that
own stuff, their parents were doctors and lawyers.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Now go into finance. Kids.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
All these guys are finance guys, and they own everything. Yes, uh, yes,
Chase two.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
According to Sportico, as recently as December of twenty twenty four,
they valued sports franchise as the Cowboys being number one
over ten billion, Lakers fourth overall in American sports at
eight point zero seven billion. That was the valuation as
recently as December.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
Four point four billion.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Eight point seven billion.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
Oh I'm sorry, okay, eight point seven Yeah, it wouldn't
surprise me if it's if it's close to a right,
whatever they say, they're worth it. Again, that's some sort
of formula. Now, the Lakers, they have their own TV network.
They do not own the building, so there's some there's
good and bad to all of that own their own
TV network or own Do they own part of it?

Speaker 2 (38:17):
Right?

Speaker 1 (38:18):
I don't know how much they own of Spectrum Sports Net.
Obviously Spectrum owns abortion of it, so do the Dodgers,
And obviously this makes it a big conglomerate. But that
is major news. And normally you go like ownership doesn't
really matter. But going from a mom and pop to
own by one guy who comes from the world of finance,
we've seen how much change there has been with the
Phoenix Suns, not all of it for the better. Think

(38:41):
you expect to see someone with the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Givin no riches.
