(01:10):
DJ Dreams and our own Cliff Craven, Sam who Iowa
Sam who was for a short period of time, Big
Apple Sam as well. I'm a mere Doug Gottlieb. Let's
get to the midway.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
He's not getting the middle it's time.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
For so what's the midway? You ask yourself? Thanks so
much for asking and making this part of your day.
It's three hours of radio, of course, the third hour
you can get on podcasts, download a roving download podcast.
It's the middle of the week. It's Wednesday, middle of
the day. I don't know. It's one on the west,
(01:49):
four on the east. You know your day doesn't end
at five anymore. And it's the middle of the show.
We call it the midway. Can be any topic, Jay Stu,
what's the midway?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Thank you taking it from here. I did want to
make this is a special midway today. I saw this
note and I'm like, man, this is this is almost
written for the Doug Gottlieb Show. Whoever whoever that took
the time to post this must be a listener. This
is what PMT Stats and Info posted this morning. July second,
twenty twenty five is exactly the middle of the year,
(02:22):
which means from this day moving forward will be closer
to twenty and fifty than we were two thousand. So, Doug,
not only are we in the middle of the day,
in the middle of the show, we're in the very
middle of twenty twenty five. And to this tweets I
guess sentiment, we are in the middle of the half century.
(02:46):
We are right in the middle of our half century.
To me, these these things are more than coincidences. This
is why we have the midway to discuss topics of
the day and have a good time with them. Today
I threw out on the group text, since we are
at the very middle of the year, what storylines are
(03:07):
you looking forward to following for the rest of the
calendar year. I saw exactly zero comments about it, so
I'm assuming that's what's good with me.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, good with me.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
I like it, Yeah, yes, no need to change.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
No, I thought it was outstanding. I was I didn't
want to give away an idea because I think go
ahead No.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
The one good thing about the twenty five years is
if we were to do that angle, like, what are
we looking for the next twenty five years? All of
the US Open sites have been basically set from now
and so there's only like four open So thanks a
lot USGA for that one. Ridiculous Sorry, just to golf takes.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
It's like the Marvel movie schedule coming out like fifteen
years ago, and they're like, these are all the Marvel
movies we're going to.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Make over the next twenty years. Yeah, like, okay, thanks
for the surprise, Thank thanks for giving everybody else a chance.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
That's not By the way, has anybody seen F One?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Is it out? No?
Speaker 1 (04:00):
The movie?
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Yeah, it did very well except first weekend. Yeah, I've
not seen it.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
S Brad Pitt combined with the guy that made Top
Gun Maverick. What could it go wrong? Right, Brad Pitt,
who got it, still got it?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Here's what could go wrong?
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Go ahead? Can you say it? Jay Stu? I I
don't know if I should say it as a college
basketball coach. Brad's Pitt still still got it? You know
what's in the bar? No?
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Not that, No, No, it's just movie drop from Brad say,
Brad Pitt's still hot. Yeah, he's like sixty one. I
think something like that. No way, yeah he said in
sixty Yes he is.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Brad Pitt is sixty one years old.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
He's gorgeous too, He's gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Yeah, he's good looking. Man.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
He is sixty one in December and he was a bee.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Wow. Huh.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
I would love I would love to fall into Brad's pit. Pause, parent,
I don't know if you do.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Let's move on, Okay, things up good? Forward to later
on this year. Not Brad Spit, not Brad spin I'm sorry,
I'm gonna say it. I know it feels like prisoner
of the moment. I want to see the Aaron Rodgers
thing in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
I'm with you there, just.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
I just do like it's his last year. They're kind
of acting on Pittsburgh like a motivated Aaron Rodgers usually
pretty good, but he wasn't very good half the year.
He succeeds, he fails as a player. You know, he's
going to say it doesn't matter because it's bigger than that.
It's a spiritual journey or whatever. But like it's really
going to be a kind of how you and your
(05:35):
career sometimes defines a little bit of your career, it doesn't, right,
Peyton Manning, he won a Super Bowl, but I mean
he was bad and he really kind of got pulled
midway through the season. Brady's last year, they weren't particularly good.
He was okay, not really enthused in, like, you know
who's playing with and playing for. But I want to
see what Aaron Rodgers does this year. I'm that's a
(05:57):
storyline I want to pay attention to.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Well, there's going to be that kind of weekly thing too, right,
because like it's going to be interesting to see the
first time Aaron Rodgers does something on McAfee that directly
contradicts what Mike Tomlins said on Sunday night, Like tom
will do one of his we want volunteers and not hostages,
and then Aaron Rodgers will go on McAfee and be like, no, no, no,
(06:20):
we need that guy. I don't care what he just
did on Sunday. We need that guy. He's important to
the team. He'll like, he'll do things that will just
directly contradict the head coach. That's a part of his brand,
and it's going to be interesting given the amount of
respect that each of these two guys have.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
It's pretty amazing because they're gonna spend seven months with
each other. That's what that's that's what it is. It's
not even a school year.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
July.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
I don't even think the Dan points out, I don't
even think the NBA playoffs are shorter than seven months.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Okay, So that's that's one. That's one, Dan. You go.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
So Jason Stewart last year pointed out many times and
he was right about this on how he was intrigued
about the Kansas City Chiefs going for a three peat,
and I don't think that that story got enough run
because of the greatness of the Chiefs. Now they fell
a game short, we get tired of them. So now
(07:25):
that they've lost this Super Bowl, I am curious to
see on how they do rebound because the last time
that they lost the Super Bowl, they did not make
it back the next year. Granted Cincinnati had to have
a crazy AFC Championship game in Kansas City to beat them,
but still they did not return. And I am curious
(07:47):
to see on if that Super Bowl game was a
sign of things to come or just a mirage that
has fixed this offseason with a rededicated Travis Kelcey and whatnot,
So I will carry that Chiefs banner. I continue to
think that that story in Kansas City, teetering on which
way is going to go is going to be very
interesting this fall.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Chase do I'm going to keep it local. I think
the Dodgers baseball story this coming October is one of
the most intriguing baseball stories that we've seen. How many
different World Series champions have there been in the past
eight years? I want to say eight eight if I'm
not mistaken, and coming off an off season where you're like,
(08:30):
are the Dodgers bad for baseball? And how stupid a
notion that is being a team or the first team
to repeat in quite some time, I think is a
is just like Dan just pointed out, it's kind of
like the chief story like this is. This is an
intriguing thing to follow if you like the Dodgers or not.
In fact, if you hate the Dodgers, it's even more interesting.
(08:52):
Can they repeat? They have the most talented team, they
have the biggest payroll. And I'm going to be following
closely as a Dodger fan and a strong critic of
Andrew Friedman. So the storyline I'm looking forward to most
the second half of twenty twenty five the Los Angeles
Dodgers in October.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Sam just briefly going back to that Aaron Rodgers topic.
I am curious if midway through this season, Aaron Rodgers
will ask Mike Tomlin if he could bring in Alan
Lizard and Randall Cobb for help. She's gonna dust him off.
Let just throw out Randall Cobblizard out there. Just get
those guys catching balls. No, actually had a couple in mind,
but I am curious if this is going to be
(09:34):
a by the end of the year, a sophomore slump
for Caitlin Clark. You can define a slump a sophomore
slump in a lot of ways. Sometimes it's just poor shooting.
Sometimes it's injury. Sometimes it's both. And right now she
has the groin issue and her shooting has been an issue.
But this Fever team has actually had some really, really
impressive wins. They obviously beat the Links last night in
Minneapolis to win the Commissioner's Cup. They had the best
(09:56):
record in the WNBA coming into that game. They took
the loom off the Rods at the New York Liberty
and beat them for the first time. They won at Seattle,
so the team is able to win without her. I
think clearly we need to have Kaitlyn Clark playing again.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Uh just hold one, put a pause on your uh
your script? Did you just refer to the Fever as
we You just said we?
Speaker 4 (10:21):
I don't think I did it.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, it was a week.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Well we'll replay that. Well ahead, your script, go ahead,
Do we care?
Speaker 4 (10:28):
I'm just I don't. Who cares?
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Oh, Doug has a problem with people saying right, but I.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Don't like hardcore fantasy. We but like n W n
B A Fever team. You're from Iowa, you just started fall.
You're clearly a Caitlyn Clark fanatic.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
I don't remember saying we here. Yeah. Not usually one guy.
I'm a me guy.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
But all right, yeah, okay, I gotta I got a
couple of here, a couple here. First of all, I
do have we talked about this in the pod and
I have received work. Okay, this is not breaking news,
but I've been led to believe that Caitlin Clark will
not take a penny of the money from the Commissioner's
(11:09):
Cup that the team received and will break up. I
think she's like, hey, I didn't play. Let team personnel
get it. The people who make the least get it.
That's what I've been told.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
That's nice. Wait where are you getting that?
Speaker 1 (11:24):
I just sources, layers close to the situation have led
me to believe that is not a confirmed report.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
That's just looking out. Yeah, that's great, that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Yes, and he probably.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Honestly, she probably would have done it if she would
have played as well.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
I honestly, it's it's a drop in the bucket to
what she makes. Yeah, I mean, mamba shoes sold out
like that. She's really, really bright woman.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
She played, she played in certain games that helped them
get to the Commissioner's Cup Championship. I opined earlier that
maybe she could give her money away to her teammates
because they did go out there.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Her teammates. I don't know if she gave her teammates.
I think it's the team personnel.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
I don't I've not heard that from anybody, but just
myself thinking that maybe she could do.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
OK. Yeah, can we get to the here's the things
we're looking forward to we have I mentioned.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Before we get there, Before we get there. I did
want to. I have evidentiary. Evidentiary what's the word proof? Iowa, Sam,
just three minutes ago talking about his fever. You have
me up on the computer, Sam.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Go ahead, Yeah, so the team is able to win
without her. I think clearly we need to have Kaitlyn
Clark playing. I'm talking about his sports dude. Come on,
I'm talking about sports fans. You need to have Kaitlyn
Clark back. You know what we fever fans.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
I'm actually gonna go team Sam, Sam, Sam, I got
your back here. I'll catch you in this stress fall.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Okay for once. Thank you, guys, thank you.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
No listen, because he meant we, as sports fans, we
need to have Kayla Clark because otherwise we don't care.
Starting about Sophie Cunningham, but.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
We Sophie Stunningham, Sophie stunning Okay, I've been vindicated.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
I know you're gonna say Ohio State, but I'm gonna
say arch Manning.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Right, Yeah, I'm glad you went there. Yeah arch Manning.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Like again, part of me feels bad for the kid,
all right, but part of me is like, hey, dude,
you're the dude. You're gonna put yourself man in the arena.
Now you're the quarterback of Texas. Texas, right they spent
didn't they spend three million dollars on his visits supposedly? Right?
Like this is that's like all time Johnny be good levels. Yeah,
(13:44):
our arch manning quarterback of Texas. There. I want to
see it there.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
I think I'm so glad you brought that up because
I think that he is far and away the biggest
story in college football. And it's also because I think
there are stories that are lacking in college football. And
I'm going to bring up a topic that we kind
of talked about last year. Do you remember I was
not high in Alabama? Remember like they you know, they
went to Madison that took care of Wisconsin, and you're like, oh,
(14:10):
it's Alabama's Alabama. Alabama's not Alabama when Nick Saban isn't there,
And there was intrigue because you think that maybe that
team's going to keep rolling with Caitlin de Boorr. But
it ended up not being the case. They don't even
make they don't even make the playoffs. So now Alabama
isn't Alabama anymore. Ohio State's got a you know, a
(14:33):
bunch of new faces on offense outside of Jeremiah Smith
that you have to replace.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Oklahoma stinks, Thomas stinks.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Yeah, Penn State is maybe the second biggest story, I think,
because if not now, when for them, like finally, even
though they made it to the semi final last year,
it's kind of a all right, let's see it, James Franklin,
let's win that big game. And but other than that,
you know, I have a tough time in getting a
lot of buzz about the college football season. I think
(15:04):
arch Manning is the story far and away in college football,
and they open up at Ohio State just to start
the season, So that's the game that everybody's gonna be
looking at.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
How do we feel in what late December? I guess
about because we had a lot of problems with how
teams were seeded in the first twelve team playoff, and
now we're going to try to correct those errors and
not have a like a Boise State be like have
a bye. You know, we need to correct those things.
So I think that the makeup of the playoff will
be interesting, see how we do it this time around,
maybe trying to correct some of those mistakes from last year.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Yeah, it's not a great There's not tons of momentum
for college football right now.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Do you see the big twelves getting rid of preseason
polls because like Arizona State was picked to finish whatever
way deep into the conference and they end up winning it.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
I'll tell you what though, that's what makes the story great.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Agreed.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
I love preseason polls.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
It's just talking fodder though, you know, it's just yeah, yeah,
but to to talk about it.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
But it gets us talking about it. Yes, yeah, I'm
with Dan.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
So what you think that it's good? Went away? Or
you shouldn't keep it?
Speaker 1 (16:09):
No, they're dumb because nobody knows, Like most teams have
entirely new teams, so it's really hard. Like people ask
them all the time, like what's your league gonna look like?
Like I don't know of in my league in the
Horizon League. In basketball, the top twenty five scores too
are back. I have one of them and we're the
worst team. So, I mean, you know, it's crazy. Okay,
(16:31):
So we got college football, we got NFL.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
There's also gonna be a good Ryder Cup at h
so that'll be a good weekend in late September. I
mean at page.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Anybody, anybody else wonder like, I don't think they'll trade him,
but what if Lebron gets traded? Thunder at least interesting?
But I thought that was a pretty good Midway chase.
Do anything else?
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Nope, we got Daniel Jeremiah here.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Great, We'll ask him what he's most looking forward to.
That is the Midway, the Midway.
Speaker 2 (17:12):

(17:45):
Uh dies, Shawn Jackson, you remember him? Yeah? He said
this on the All Facts, No Breaks podcast in regards
to getting his opportunity to coach at Delaware State.
Speaker 6 (17:56):
Coach prime Man I can't stress enough about eyes open
doors for gods like myself.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
You know, we talked about.
Speaker 6 (18:01):
Michael vig Bian and Norfolk we played this year, so
you know, just being able to learn from gods like him.
And that's been in the HBCU when he was at
Jackson State, now he at Colorado.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Like you know, this is stepping stone from the RST.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
I want to come here.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
They only won two games in the past two years.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Yeah again, d Jack's getting a chance to coach a team.
That's awesome. There's a guy who's got an opportunity. Awesome.
I again, here's just a quick learning lesson. When you
just get a job and you haven't won a game,
or when you've had four, you don't talk about your
current job as a stepping stone job. Again, doesn't mean
that we don't know it's a stepping jone job. Like
(18:37):
we realize you're not going to be the lifetime head
coach at Delaware State. Maybe you will, but very unlikely.
But that's like talking about your second wife when you're
on your honeymoon. Hey, my next wife's going to be like,
excuse me, all right, stuck gottleep show Fox Sports Radio.
That's the voice to stand byer, so I guess, uh, yeah,
(19:00):
it looks it's it's super interesting these guys getting coaching jobs.
And there's the parallel. I got a coaching job when
I hadn't coached previously, despite the fact my path was
a little bit more like Dion's than Mike Vix and
Deshaun Jackson's. Right, Dion Head coached youth football and I
(19:21):
think high school football and coaching his son, and then
got the job at Jackson State. And he'd also obviously
covered football and played football, so I'd covered basketball. I'd
coached basketball at a multitude of levels. Nothing really prepares
you for coaching at college. Being an assistant, I would
say prepares you for some of the minutia of it,
(19:44):
but the relationship building you have to do with the donors,
with your president, a lot of the and this is
a new landscape, you know. One of the interesting parts
about coaching now, guys, is that you can have thirty
years of experience. It doesn't necessarily apply to recruiting and
coaching now. Somewhat coaching, I still think is coaching, but
(20:09):
recruiting so different. So different international players are easier to
get into school, more of them want to come because
they think it's the gold rush. You either get paid
now or you don't get paid, and then the next
year you're going to make up a bunch of money.
You're coaching teams that haven't you know, I have only
(20:31):
six people that were in my gym last year, so
you're basically you have to recoach everything and reform everything.
And you know, we've been together for this was the
end of our tay was the end of our I
think fourth week in the summer, and you know, how
we thought we wanted to be has evolved already, and
(20:54):
we still have at least one player who hasn't been
medically cleared, and potentially a second uh that I'll still
join us. So I would tell you that experience is important,
but you have to you should hire experience, hire what
you don't have. But I also think it's gonna take
anybody a year of doing it to truly get it,
(21:15):
because it's such a new landscape, unbelievably new landscape, and
you can try stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I don't know, you know, I was. I was kind
of taken by something you said earlier, Jase to you said,
you're You're not a You're an Andrew Friedman critic. Wouldn't
that be a previously you're an Andrew Freemank critic critic?
(21:38):
Are you still an Andrew Freebank critic?
Speaker 3 (21:40):
No, I'm think I'm as big as critic calumnists for
the Early Times. Dylan hernandez Uh takes them to task
a lot, but I think I'm his biggest. I think
if you were to ask him in a very honest
state off the record, he would probably say that Jason
guy that used to be on Dodgers Radio and now
was on the Doug Gottlieb Show, I can't quite impress
(22:05):
that guy. I can't. He's difficult to impress.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Well, I think generally you're difficult to impress period, Right,
But they went through that stretch where they they lost.
I want to say it was like I was looking
five of seven and then won the car when the
Padres Series won. The Giant Series took three or four
from the Padres, two of three from the Nats, obviously
(22:32):
swept the Rockies two of three from the Royals, Like,
I don't what do you not like about this baseball team?
Speaker 3 (22:41):
No? No, I love this baseball team. I just don't.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Why are you Andrew Friedman critic?
Speaker 3 (22:45):
I don't understand, because winning it his way has always
prioritized winning. In other words, Andrew Friedman has always wanted
to be the first president to win without a close.
He's always wanted to be the first team president to
win with starter pitchers, openers. He always wanted to be
(23:08):
the first president to win with a team of guys
that could play all multiple positions, a team of Tommy Edmunds.
And then the one championship he has won outside of
the COVID Championship was okay, you just went out and
got the best player in baseball. That was That was
the solution. No need to be cute, no need to
(23:30):
be the the analytics hero. Just go out and get
the best guy in baseball, and you won a championship.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
But he's still trying to he did he did he
have a closer?
Speaker 3 (23:43):
No? No, they won last year without an announced closer.
This year they do not have an announced closer.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I agree. So that's saying and you're saying, and you're right,
they did go at the best player baseball. But if
we're fair, what makes him great is not just he's
a great hitter, it's that he does both, and he
didn't do both last year, right, correct? So I mean
you couldn't just say, hey, I'm previously an interro Freeman critic.
(24:10):
Now I've just been critical of that style.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
I don't know, he tends to be way too cute.
Watch the trade deadline is what in thirty days down?
Watch They're not going to get the obvious people. They're
going to get the people that are low value or
people that are considered low value. He's going to try
to win the trade line as opposed to just getting
(24:34):
the best part.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Okay, or maybe they can't get here. I'm a believer
of this. Jay. That one thing you don't you don't
know is I do think there's a Dodger tax. I
do think that because they spend so much because of
who they are, because they've won so much, any trade
they want to make for the exact same guy is
going to cost you know, two x to anyone else.
(24:58):
We'll get back to this discussion on the Gallip Show.
Let's welcome in Daniel Jeremiah. He's the co host of
the Movie Sticks podcast. Uh DJ, what do you think
of what the Steelers are doing?
Speaker 7 (25:08):
I actually like this move I know, uh, you know,
sometimes you can look at these these trades and people
get caught up in the names or the reputations. And
you know, I think micka Fitzpatrick has one interception over
the last two years, so he has not been making
many plays on the football. And there's been some coverage
bus as well when you watch some of their games
(25:29):
from last year. So I was okay with him decide
and they were going to move off of Minka. And
then you know, with Jalen Ramsey bringing him in, I mean,
I look, I you know, I think he they know
how to use him. I would imagine he'll be kind
of their big nickel. I think in that role he'll
be fine. He can still play at a at a
high level in that in that scenario. And then John
new Smith is not only coming off a good year,
(25:52):
but he's someone who knows this offense and has had,
you know, history of production with Arthur Smith. So I know,
I know they've gotten some grief for it, and uh,
you know, kind of swiping out one guy who's a
little older for another guy who's a little older, and
and what did you make of that? I thought it
wasn't that positive form.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Uh, Okay, what are the Dolphins doing.
Speaker 7 (26:13):
I have no idea on that front. I just to me,
I I thought that this was kind of a time
for them to retool a little bit and and then
take in an asse that you had in Jalen Ramsey
trying to get some draft capital, and then try and
look towards the future a little bit as they try
and rebuild this team. I don't think they're really close
(26:35):
right now. I think they've got some serious holes on
their on their team, so, uh, you know, I don't
necessarily understand it as much from their side of things.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Yeah, s Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
the Steelers as they kind of feel like they're going
all in this year, does the do the pieces fit?
Do they all these tight ends? Do they all? Does
this fit?
Speaker 7 (27:03):
I think that I think they're going to be better.
To me, I think the key to this thing everybody's
looking at Aaron and how is Aaron going to play?
To me, the key to this is going to be
the development of their young tackles. They have two first
round picks. Yeah, I mean, if they can if they
can get and and by all accounts, Broderick Jones is
in really good shape. He's lost some weight. He was
(27:23):
a talented guy coming out of Georgia, so he got
him on the left side. Troy Fontanu, you know, would
a little bit do with out there before he got hurt.
You know, I think he's gonna be a really good player.
So he's at right tackle. You've got a center, and
Zach Frazier I think is already one of the best
young centers in the league. He's a young player. They
got another young guard who's next to him, So they
have a lot of talented but young, inexperienced offensive lineman.
(27:45):
So how that group comes together, I think will determine
a lot about you know what, what this team looks like,
even more so than than how Rogers plays. You know, look,
last year, Doug didn't not get good quarterback play and
they still win the games the Steelers win. So yeah,
I think they're going to be that type of team
if the offensive line really develops and plays well, maybe
a little bit better than that. And the only other
(28:07):
point I would make is, you know, you think about
you know all in I've heard that phrase a lot.
With this stuff going on, I'd have to pull it up.
But next year. I think they have like three third
round picks. They might even have an extra second round pick. Like,
they're loaded with draft capital next year. So their their
position next year if they don't, you know, if they
don't feel like Will Howard's that guy, which I don't
(28:29):
know how he would be able to prove it in
this situation, but they're going to be armed and ready
to go get their quarterback next year at the draft.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
The most talked about team in sports is the Dallas Cowboys,
and they've kind of had a unique offseason. They always
seem to have a weird one. You have the defending champions,
the Eagles. We've talked about them a bunch, the upstart
Commanders who everybody fell in love with last year. The Giants.
They're better, but I mean, they couldn't be worse. I
(28:59):
don't know where are the Cowboys.
Speaker 7 (29:03):
They're fascinating to me. I mean, I still think they've
got some good pieces there on this roster. I mean
that feels like maybe more so, you know that what
we just talked about Pittsburgh, it feels like the opposite.
I feel like that's going to be a Dak Prescott situation.
Like they're going to go. However, the heck he goes,
you know, he plays really well. They've got some you know,
they've still got some good pieces. I'm fascinated to see
(29:26):
how George Pickens is gonna mix with Seedee Lamb. I
think that's actually, you know, if they if they get
his head in the right space. I think his skill
set compliments Seedee Lamb. So they've got some pieces there.
But it just comes down to Dak and how he plays.
To me, looking at at this point in time, this
looks like a nine you know, nine to ten win
team to me.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Yeah, it's interesting. Like the George Pickens things say, if
he gets his head straight, has there ever been a
Dallas Cowboy wide receiver who joined the Cowboys and then
kind of evened out, was more level headed once he
got to the Cowboys. I don't know if that's actually
taking place.
Speaker 7 (30:01):
Yeah, I have to go back through I have to
go back to the history books on that one to
find that one. I can't give you one off the
top of my head.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
DJ, you're the best man. Appreciate joining us. We were
just listening to Jay Stu, pick Apart and Freeman and
what how much he disagrees with the guy who just
won a World series and looks like another.
Speaker 7 (30:18):
One as Jay Stu if it thinks it's kind of funny,
like I do that as much grief as theer Bogerts
has received a him of Mookie Bets of Durnier identical
ops at this point in time, I'll ask.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Him, Ja Stu your retort, thanks, Daniel, did Jase do
your retort? Appreciate you? That was? That was? That was
a little drive by what he.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Did there, Mookie bets something about Mookie Bets. I didn't
really hear the details of what he was saying, but
I think Mookie's too busy counting the rings on his
fingers to uh to even entertain what Daniel was getting at.
Speaker 1 (30:53):

of Dan, that's Dan Meyer. Let's get to the press the.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Press, Doug. We start out with a trade scenario. You
mentioned it a bit earlier on How You One of
the things that are looking forward to in the second
half of twenty twenty five was to see what ultimately
happens with Lebron James if anything. While friend of the show,
(32:33):
Eric Pinkus recently, in a piece for Bleacher Report, did
lay out a trade that could see Lebron and Bronnie
James go to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It would be a
fourteen deal and the teams that Pinkus puts in the
trade include the Utah Jazz, who would get Darius Garland
and the Houston Rockets, who would get Dorian Finney Smith
(32:55):
and a sign in trade. But according to the pieces,
you would have Lebron, Bronnie James, Walker Kessler, and a
couple of first round picks going to Cleveland, with DeAndre
Hunter being shipped going to LA with Jared Allen, Jordan
Clarkson and other players as part of that deal. So
Eric Pinkas who we know is locked in and understand
(33:19):
salary movements and whatnot, says, yeah, there's a path that
you could see Lebron being dealt to the Cavaliers.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Well, I mean part of it is I think everyone knows,
no matter what they say, Bronni would not be in
the NBA if not for Lebron, and I don't you know, again,
don't tell us you're about winning a championship when you
had us use a draft pick we didn't have to
use last year on your son and then play him
early in the year. Don't tell us that. Don't tell
(33:48):
us you want to win a championship when you you
could have been a free agent all I had to
his opt out. You play for anybody you want if
you don't like the Lakers anymore. Oh, I wouldn't have
gotten fifty three million. Again, what are you about if
you're about winning? So there's a lot of but I
did read. I can't remember which of the NBA guys
said Cleveland not interested in Lebron. I don't know if
(34:09):
that's true. I think they'd be interested. I don't think
they'd be interesting letting Darius Garland go for him. That's
the thing.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
What I also think is interesting and how this plays out,
because I do think Lebron is going to remain a
Laker in this season, but with the East being as
poor as it is. In a conversation you know talked
about you know on the show, and you had Frank
Casila on earlier and talking about this water down East
which is completely watered down, that also means that there's
(34:35):
going to be some disappointed teams. So if you are
the Calves and don't cash in in a water down East,
or you are the Knicks and you don't cash in
in a water down East, maybe that makes you want
to make a deal. I don't know, but yeah, but
I also be disappointed.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
That again, this is a year where Jason TAM's not
gonna play, Damian Lollar is not gonna play, Tyr's Halburt's
not gonna play. So, like he said, that opens up
opportunities for sixers, for Nicks, for us.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
For what it does is it sets expectations for a
team like the Knicks and Calves.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
I look, I agree, okay, but remember the scenario you're
discussing is a year from now where I do think
the Celtics will be beck and be whether Jason Tatum
is the same as used to be. I think they're
reforming themselves to kind of take this year to figure
it out and next year that'll be better. So his
timing may be off again. Like, let's also see what
(35:30):
he looks like. He was still good last year, but
he's been injured I think five in the last seven years,
six to the last seven years. So let's just see the.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
New York Knicks have hired Mike Brown as their new
head coach.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
That one's could have had him a long time ago, right,
So I think that's I think it's that's the part
that jumps out as you're like, wait, if Mike Brown
is he answered, it's fine. He's been to an NBA finals,
he's been to an Eastern Conference finals, he's been two
time coach the year. But why were you banging down
the doors of all these other coaches if you wanted Brownie? Anyway?
(36:07):
By the way, do you remember the name Mike Brown?
Wasn't that the name of the guy who ran the
Katrina relief thing? And George Bush was like, BROWNI you're
doing an ell of a job. And then you know
that's when they had all the problems to Katrina.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
That was I do remember the Yeah, I think that. Yes,
the last name was Brown. I don't know. I thought
it was Don Brown, but maybe Michael D.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Brown.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
Michael D. Brown, that's who it was. Yeah, all right,
I wonder what that Maybe the D was Don I'm
not sure. But Greg Popovich has lost some win totals,
but he's also lost some losses on his record. The
NBA adjusting Popovitch's career record, taking away the seventy seven
games that were on his mark after he didn't coach
those this past season. Mitch Johnson's going to get those.
(36:47):
Popovich still the winningest coach in NBA history. He'll be
fifty three wins ahead of Don Nelson's thirteen thirty five.
So Greg Popovich, though having his record adjusted not the
first time it happened. Happened in the early eighties with
the Lakers as well with Jack McKinney and Paul west Head.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Happened with the with coach K when he was when
he the first time he wasn't with Duke because of
the back issue.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Did you use air quotes with the back issue?
Speaker 1 (37:15):
I did not use Aarah. Okay, you see me on screen.
I didn't use back a man, I'm not talking trash
on Coach K.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Good point, A good point. The Athletics says the Warriors, Lakers,
and Celtics are amongst the teams interested in Damian Lillard.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Yeah, it's like a red shirt year. So the number
is going to be interested. You know, the numbers are gonna.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
Good to see some new teams getting involved. You know,
some new names popping off.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Do you know he's from Oakland?
Speaker 4 (37:44):
The Heat. We're also mentioned previously when it comes to
Dame Lillard, uh and uh. And finally, the Boston Red
Sox designated Alex Verdugo for assignments.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Alex, great baseball name. Great baseball name got the press
by get out there and pressed.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
That was the press.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
It's the Doug Ottlieb Show on Fox Sports Trader. Download
that podcast wherever you are in the meantime. As you
get your fireworks, just know that Jason Stewart is that
guy who thinks the fireworks are for simpletons. I, as
