or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app
by searching app. As it is a Wednesday and its
first time listening to the show, let me insu you
(00:22):
to a segment we do. It's the middle of the show.
It's a middle of the day, it's the middle of
the week. And uh we call it the midway. It's
not getting the middle it's time for the.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Midway.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Okay, we got my band Ryan Smith, he's on the
ones and Tuesda monte Bellos, who's doing our updates, and
of course our steam producer and leader, the one only
Jason Stewart. So here's the midway topic we sort of
tried to get into last week and then we got
diverted by sports. Oh god, sports. So and it does
relate to I think now I would even take this
(01:00):
to when you go and you do a you know
you're going taking a ball game, which is if you
go and travel let's say months, you pick your dream
country to travel to this summer, if you had the
time off of the money.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Oh, you're putting me on the spot. But let's go
to Spain. Spain, Let's go to Ourtcelona.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
See then you had to show up, hat to show up,
Jay Stu. Pick a country that if you had the
money and you had the time, you'd go. And you
and you're spoken out girlfriend Christine would go and visit.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
South Africa has the least regulated bungee jumps. In other words,
if you bungee jump in California, there's a restriction on
how far you could fall, and you have to go.
You have to be uh, you have to have a
cradle on your mid section instead of your ankles. But
in South and South Africa you could drop five hundred
feet into a ravine by your ankles. So I want
(01:58):
to go to South Africa yesterday.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
How many people die per year, But that's.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Part of the whole intrigue. If you can't die, why
do it?
Speaker 1 (02:08):
I actually have the exact opposite thing. If you can die,
don't do it right, that's really like it's like a
hot air balloon, Like yeah, I saw that thing in Brazil,
Like I'm good. Yeah, I'm good. Ryan Smith. Bryan, if
you could, if you had the money and you had
the time, where would you go visit? Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Probably someplace safer, like I don't know, maybe like Jamaica
or something.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Okay, Jamaica, yeah, okay, you Jamaica is very safe. I
think you might need a Google anyway. So here's the question. Right,
Like I've been I was trying to go recruit in Croatia,
and you just it's time, travel expense or whatever. I
(02:55):
have told people that I'm going somewhere and I'm not
going to tell anybody where I'm going. I'm actually going
to try and throw off my phone. You know. The
over under is is one day and how long I
keep the phone off. But I've told people that. So
here's the question. Say you go somewhere, whether it's Spain,
I guess we'll throw in Jamaica, South Africa. By the way,
(03:17):
when I hear South Africa, doesn't everybody who's like our
age j stew think of is that lethal weapon? Three two?
Is that two two? But you'll you'll blick, But you're
black anyway very much. If you're a movie guy, a
nineties movie guy, you know what I'm talking about anyway.
(03:39):
Would you rather stay at a resort or would you
rather be among the common folk and just get a flat,
get a burbo and just kind of be You know,
some people when they like to travel, they go either
to a resort and stay there, or they go like
a day here, day there, and they stay in like
nice hotel, nice hotel, a nice hotel, and they go
(04:01):
out in the town. Some people do it with the cruises,
or would again, would you do any of those or
would you rather, hey, just find a like a Greek
village and just post up there and feel what it's
like to be Greek. Get up every morning and have
your nest cafe, you know, take your afternoon nap, because
they do the siesta in Greece as well. They do
it in Spain. Right, say you go to Barcelona, Manci
(04:25):
and you do that. Would you rather have like a
little just little cottage and you spend like ten days there?
Or is you rather be in a beachside resort and
have people feeding your grapes like you're like you're assaultant.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
That's what I want.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
I if I'm planning the trip, I'm gonna pick a resort,
I'm gonna do something like that. I'm not against staying
in like a cottage or like, you know, getting the
full experience, but that means somebody else's planned the trip.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
That's not what I'm gonna plan. We're staying at a resort.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Okay, Jay Stu, you go to South Africa, Okay, you're
gonna go jump off some freaking bridge atop of seven
hundred foot ravine. You can go down four it five
hundred feet or whatever and maybe die, maybe not die. Whatever.
Would you rather kind of feel the culture and stay
(05:16):
at a nice flat somewhere in I don't know, I
don't know what Johannesburg, just just throwing out, like you know,
literally only city I know of in South Africa? Or
would you rather stay at a really nice resort or hotel
or you know, do the do the even do the
Safari thing in South.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, this, this to me has everything to do with
the place that you're going to. So South Africa is
probably a bad example. I think they hate white people now,
like farmers are getting slaughtered. I'm not even joking, but
Playa del Carmen. I went there once in Mexico, south
of whatever the city is called that everyone knows now
(05:59):
I stayed at the resort, had an amazing time, all
inclusive food and everything else. One of my buddies and
his girlfriend ventured outside the resort to do some quote
shopping shopping at the local and uh, while it's stolen
at gunpoint. So that's my answer. I'm going to stay
at the resort if it is a dangerous place to
(06:22):
Americans or white people.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Okay, but if it's not a dangerous place to Americans
or white people or even do you know people of
dark skin whatever, Like you're just in a because outside
of South Africa, where would you go?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
I again, my example was was Mexico, but the in general,
I want to stay with the people. If when I
go to New York City, I want to I want
to just do do the village.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
I want to know those are more of the Except
what you're saying is Mexico, I agree with you. South Africa,
I retially agree with you. Right those two places, I'm like, yeah,
I'm good. But for the most part, you'd rather do
the be part of the people, which is kind of
where I am. Right. I thought that too, and this
comes from when I was playing basketball, we played against
(07:13):
I was playing in Israel, played against Beshiktash, which is
in Turkey, right, and I just remember, you know, we
had a day off and I just got up and
I like walked down the street to this bizarre and
it literally is like Akraba in uh in Aladdin. Nobody
tried to sell me the genie and the lamp. But
(07:33):
you see these rugs, you see, you see dates, you
see everything. And it also brings me back to when
I played professionally in France. I was a replacement player
for a guy that got hurt. I was there for
a month and a half. And during that month and
a half that I was there, I had a little flat.
(07:55):
I'd get up in the morning across the street was
like a little pastry shop, you know, So I'd get
up pastry and then I'd get a coffee at there's
a little coffee place like two doors down, and then
I'd walk to the gym. And then after practice in
the morning I'd walk to this little little cafe bistro
bar and there was no menu that you just sat down.
(08:17):
You had whatever they were the lunch special was, and
they would serve it for you and you know, you'd
either you did have another coffee or have a beer,
and then you go back to the flat and you
take a nap, and then you go back to work,
and you have practice in the afternoon, and then you'd
go back to the bar and have dinner there and
you walk home and you do it again on cycle.
And I was like, man, this is what it's like
to be French. Should have a job. I mean, I
(08:39):
didn't work at a factory, but I worked at a
basketball gym. But still kind of the same idea. But again,
it's not for everybody because that you'll have people who
you know, they'll tell you like I don't want to
do especially women. We'll say like I don't want to
do dishes on my vacation. That's why they won't go
to the you know, wherever they stay, they won't stay
(09:02):
somewhere that has the kitchenettes in there. You know, like, Hey,
I do dishes at home. I don't want to do
dishes here. I'm sure if you're dish guy, I don't
want to do dishes. Ryan Smith be a tiebreaker.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
What do you think, Wow, poor Jason Stewart unsafe for
white people. I guess I have black privilege. That's great. Uh,
I don't want to stay at someone else's place. Give
me a hotel, resort or something. I'm paranoid. I just
think bad things will happen to me, So I go
with the resort.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah. So so wait, you're you're you're calling out Jason
for his Yeah, I get it, he's a little bit
on social media there. But I'm sure there's in some
levels there's reality. I don't know. I don't want to
dig in. That's not this show. But then you said, like, yeah,
i'd feel unsafe too, So I'm staying in a resort.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Yeah, basically like a hotel. I don't want to be
in someone else's home. I just I don't know, just
just makes me paranoid, just just just my personal preference.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Yeah, I guess I can see that. There is a
certain element to I. You know, you stay in a verbo,
You're like, do they have a is there a camera
in here? Exactly? Yes?
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yes. And my theory is that, like all of those stories,
the sourcing on those stories is the hotel industry. Like
that's how fierce this uh hotel versus Airbnb thing is.
You really can't believe a story about Airbnb because like,
what's the sourcing on this same with the taxis and
(10:36):
Uber and whatnot. There. You know, the taxi industry just
had like warehouses of people going on and giving horrible
reviews of ubers, like you just can't underestimate the feistiness
of corporate capitalism.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
The feistiness of corporate capitalism. Okay, uh speed which anybody
got a big trip coming up?
Speaker 3 (11:02):
I don't know if it's big, but I'm gonna go
to Florida in September so I can go do the
Halloween stuff, like the Universal Halloween Horronites.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
They you're flying to Florida. You know there's not scary
farm right down the street.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
I know I do that every year. Six flags fully
do what every year. Apparently the Universe of Orlando one
is the one to do.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
I think you got that one off social media too. No,
how is it the one too?
Speaker 5 (11:26):
Because they have you been to Universal in Orlando. It's ginormous.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
They even opened a new park and there's a Frankenstein ride.
But because they have more space, it's not the same
as here Universal Hollywood.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Very different. They even have different mazes.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I don't know what the legality is of it, but
it doesn't even compare.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
You have a kittie bungee jump and there's basically you're
held on by a toothpair.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
No, I am, I'm going for scary fun, not you know,
want to die fun.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
I I mean, I understand it's it's different, But Jay
su am I the bad guy for staying the obvious,
which is like, you know, they're not gonna touch you
or hurts you. It's not really that scary when you're
an adult.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
No, it's fun.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Just because you don't find it fun doesn't mean I
have to view it the way you do.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
I find it super fun.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Well, I think usually it's fun because you're with a
bunch of your friends. Now most of those friends are
like fifteen, but you're like, you're fun and because you're
like all kind of scared together and you're running around.
How many people are going with you on this excursion?
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Oh, it's just me and the boyfriend.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
And does he likes to be scared as well?
Speaker 3 (12:35):
He does, He enjoys it. He doesn't get scared the
way I do. But he likes the scary stuff.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yes, well, and he also likes that you like that
scary stuff, So he'll do whatever you say, old I'm
gonna do because that's what we do, is guys, right.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
Sure, but he likes the scary stuff, so I don't
have to do.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yes, he does scary movies. I don't like all of it.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
Scary movie we love.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Scary movies are scarier the better, there you go, that's right, yeah,
scarier the better.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
You guys do know I hate scary movies.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
Clearly, clearly you hate fun too.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
I donate fun. I have I have a great like
wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait in the
in the different like senses and reactions of midwere how
as somebody saying I don't like scary movies saying I
don't like fun like you have lots of fun, you know,
I don't like I don't like being scared because there's
enough things. I mean, Jason's petrified of people in South
(13:24):
Africa because you like, right, okay, Like there's enough scary
things out there that are real things to be scared of.
Right where You're scared of interest rates going up or
going down and causing inflation, you people, Some people are
scared of Trump. Some people are scared when Trump is done.
Some people are scared of you know, nuclear holocaust because
of all the things that's going on that you're scared
of a million things. Right, We sell fear on TV
(13:47):
and on radio on a daily basis. I just don't
need like artificial fear, That's my point. I have plenty
of I have plenty of organic natural you know, like yeah, yeah,
my daughter Grace flew across country. She's in California, Like again,
(14:08):
she somebody gets overwhelmed by stuff, Like I'm always worried, like,
oh hell, what if somebody forgets to pick her up?
And now I gotta find her a ride an uber
or whatever. She's just not great. My son's at his
summer camp he loves, and then you see what happens
at Texas is that camp? You're like, they're right next
to a river, but it's in Maine, next to New Hampshire, Like, okay,
are they all safe there? You know? My daughter Harper
(14:28):
rides horses like she jumps over big, gigantic jumps. There's fear.
I don't need any more fear. That. That doesn't mean
I don't like fun, it's just what your definition. I
guess being scared is your definition of fun, which I
would disagree with.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
It is fun.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
That is my ted talk, and that is the Midway
The Midway Steut Gottlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. You know,
by the way, Ryan Smith, have you seen Mike Francessa's
take on Superman? Like Man? You love Superman? You said
it is a little too funny at times? That dude
hated it.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
It was fine. It was I give like a give
it and eight out of ten it wasn't perfect, it
wasn't great. I thought it was just good.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Has anybody seen F one? I want to see F one.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
I think the answer when you asked it at this
time yesterday was no. Is have any of our answers changed?
Speaker 1 (15:22):
I don't know. I mean, I don't know what you're
doing last night, Monciet, Yeah, okay, maybe tonight. Ogo come on.
Next to the Doug Gotlieb Show. We're live here on
Fox Sports Radio. Brad Beale gets bought out and he
makes a and he makes that Your mic was on,
so I did catch that. He he makes a decision
(15:42):
that twenty years ago would have been insane. What is
that decision? We'll tell you Next to The Doug Gotleb Show.
Thanks for listening to The Doug Gotleb Show podcast. Be
sure to catch us live every weekday three to five
eastern twelve two Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. Find your
local station for the Doug Gottlieb Show at Fox Sports
Radio dot com, or stream a live every day on
the iHeartRadio app by searching FSR.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Stug gott Lab Show Fox Sports Radio. So bradbil got
bought out and apparently it was down to two teams,
the Lakers and the Clippers, and the Clippers paid a
little bit more. What is it months? Two years, eleven
million dollars per year? Is that? Is that? Did I
read that correctly?
Speaker 5 (16:30):
That is correct?
Speaker 1 (16:31):
After being bought out, but you know, just a huge contract.
So like money is not really an issue, which I
was always funny, Like you got bought out, some gargange
some money and then you know you are you really
going to decide based upon money. But here's the thing,
here's what's important. And Jason, I think you can back
me up best about this. If we were going to
a time machine and go pre Lob City Clippers and
(17:00):
say anyone on earth would select the Clippers over the Lakers,
And then you factor in that the Lakers have the
all time leaning Score who's still playing a high level,
and Luka Doncik on the team, right, so you still
have two superstars, one would think. I don't think I
would think I would know that. For the forty years previously,
(17:24):
every single human being would expect Brad Beale to select
the Lakers. Saying I'd rather play for the Clippers than
the Lakers is something that those of us who grew
up in southern California just have a hard time processing,
even though the arena is nicer and they've had probably
(17:45):
more consistent success than the Lakers, if we're honest, right,
the Lakers won a title, but they've had years where
they didn't do anything at all, whereas the Clippers have.
You know, that second round has been the spot where
they lose, but at least they've gotten to the second
round more often than the Lakers have recently. But I mean, Jase, Due,
(18:08):
can you imagine in the nineties, in the early two thousands, going,
you know, I think I really play with the Clippers
and the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Nope, not at all. I've said this a couple of
times on the air. I don't know if I've ever
said it in Monzi's presence, because I know it probably
would be triggering, but I really I want to see
the Clippers win a world championship for one reason. I
want to see if there is anybody at the parade,
because outside of Manzi Marcella's Wiley, I think that's it there.
(18:41):
I can count. I'm also a Clippers fan, Okay, so
I can got the count Clipper fans on on one.
On one hand, I just want to see if there's
any buzz, if there's any kind of celebration. So I
can't wait for that date.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Uh, go ahead, We're gonna say they're right.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
I'm a Clipper.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
But it's funny that Jason would say that because I
feel the same way about Chargers fans.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Are there actual Chargers? I'll give that to you. No,
I'll give that to you same thing.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
The Chargers have been to the super Bowl in our lifetime.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
How many super Bowls have they won?
Speaker 2 (19:17):
None? But but to Ryan's point, I think that's actually
really good analogy, because if the Chargers win a Super
Bowl this year, they've they've alienated San Diego. They pissed
off San Diego. So I don't think they have a
lot of fans down there, and so they only have
new La fans, which probably isn't much greater than the
(19:37):
Clippers fans.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Fair, Clippers have been in the market three times as long.
So and if you know, and look, I'm not like
a hater on the Clippers, just reality. There's there's been
times here in the past ten years. You're like, you know,
if the Clippers could win, and they have the new
arena and they had the better owner, then maybe they
(20:01):
could take over. I think all that new money and
Luca doncik oh No, I think that changes it.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
What do you think will there be like a big parade,
a big, big welcome wagon when they win a championship.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
I think you'd be surprised at the amount of Clipper
fans there actually are, just because you don't know any personally.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
I think you'd be surprised.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Not that it's going to be maybe what the Lakers
crowd brings, but I think you would be surprised.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Oh, Clipper Daryl, that's another one, like can they go there?
Speaker 1 (20:33):
You Gooper, Clipper Daryl. We'll think about Clipper Darrel in
a second. Thanks for listening to The Doug Goatleep Show podcast.
Be sure to catch us live every week day from

Tug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, we're
(21:00):
gonna lose you as a Kaitlin Clark fan, like you're
it feels like you're selling your Kitlin Clark stuck. That's
what it feels like.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
No, no, no, no, I need, I need to clarify this.
I'm a huge Kitlin Clark fan. That's the only reason
I watched a WNBA I've never watched one NBA WNBA
game until she started playing in it. But given her
injuries this season and that chair that squeaks really loud
when I'm on the air, given that and her attitude
(21:31):
like last night, I don't know if you guys saw
it like I had it on the multiview, the dual
screen on my YouTube TV All Star game and WNBA game,
so she had my attention. But she is just constantly
cursing the refs, horrible body language. The entire game was
like ninety minutes of chippiness. Impossible to watch. She still
(21:55):
can't make shots. So if Kitlin Clark isn't doing Kitlin
Clark thing, you've lost me. You've lost me from watching
your product. So that's that's my point. I'm a big
fan when she's doing Caitlin Clark things, but she just
hasn't been that outside of like that forty five seconds
uh highlight where she made like a bunch of decal
(22:17):
threes way back three weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
They did win. She was a plus twenty one last night.
I mean, but yeah, I mean there's there's there's a
lot of a lot of chatter going on there. Why
isn't Again, I'm forgive me if I mentioned in your
update monthsy, why isn't Angel Rees playing today? Because all it.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
Says is a leg injury?
Speaker 1 (22:40):
They got smoked?
Speaker 5 (22:41):
They did, uh, I try to look into it. I
was surprised she didn't play what.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
They played during those day games to get the camp
kids in there? Is that what they do?
Speaker 5 (22:50):
Yep? Yep, yep yep. And they also taking advantage of
no baseball.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
I have, friend, I have a great I have a
great day game story from summer basketball. You guys ready
for it? So my first when I get out of college,
I played in the USBL. The USBL was probably about
half former NBA players, some like I Renewable was a
teammate of mine from Miami of Ohio. He made it back.
(23:15):
You know, we get Willie Burton was on my team
as the ninth pick of the NBA draft. He had
fifteen an NBA game, Like it was a talented league,
but you know, it was like a minor league. May
and June. You played like forty games in like fifty days.
It was crazy. And the teams on the eastern seaboard,
they had one in I think on Long Island, and
(23:38):
then they had one in d C. And they had
one in Philadelphia. And Philadelphia was coached by the late
Darryl Dawkins Chocolate Thunder, and they they didn't actually play
in Philadelphia. They played at Lehigh University. If you know
where Lehigh is, you know where Philadelphia is. They're not
actually that close to oneother. It's like a hour fifteen
or so. Anyway, So we play in DC, and I
(24:04):
think we played at George Washington University like the night before,
and a couple of our players were my boy Darren McClinton,
who played at he played at JMU James Madison. He
was the other point guard. He was awesome. You know,
they had their people there and you know, we will
play the game and guys are adults, and we all
went out afterwards and guys come drag it in. Not
(24:27):
not crazy late, but you know midnight one am, like, hey, guys,
we gotta leave tomorrow. We've got a game. It's a
day game tomorrow in Philadelphia. And it was or in
wherever Lehigh, Pennsylvania, where Lehigh is in Pennsylvania, and so
we got to we gotta get up and go. So
this was two thousand. This is not even I think
Starbucks existed, but it wasn't. It wasn't like, hey, we're
(24:50):
gonna go get Starbucks and then hit the road. People
didn't do that back then. Maybe they did Duncan, probably
in Boston, but again not in d C and not
on the road there. So the the game is like
an eleven am start. And here's the reality to how
minor league basketball works is you get twenty five dollars
a day per diem. Right, So we get there and
(25:13):
there's no one's eating anything, and we were all out
the night before they roused us out of our beds.
We didn't know there was a game. Like in the morning,
like we come dragging in, you're still sore, you know.
I'm sure there's dudes that didn't even cut off their
tape for the night before, Like let's just go, let's
just do it again, let's just get it over with, right.
So we're like, dude, we're hungry. We can't play on
(25:35):
no food. And the campus is really nice, but I
don't remember there being anything close where you can go
and grab like a mcgriddle or something for breakfast. So
they bring in a bunch of hot dogs and snickers
bars and like old school coke cans. So and I'm
pretty big, especially then on my diet, and I'm like
(25:56):
what is this? And so I indulged. I had two
hot dogs, I had like a piece of stickers, and
I had a coke and I went out and played
and we actually played well, we won the game. So
the way again way it works is you play we
played Brooklyn, we play DC, we played Philadelphia, and then
we drive the airport and we get a play with
fly home and we probably played the next night or
a night later. Right, Like it's a it's a lot.
(26:16):
So I get done, you shower up, and you get
an envelope with your Prettiam money and there's like eighteen
fifty in my per Diem money. And I'm like, yo,
hold up, why is there eighteen fifteen my Prettia money?
And like, well, you had two hot dogs and a
(26:36):
piece of stickers and a coke. I was like, well
we hadn't. Yeah, we took that out of your Prettiam money.
So yeah, that's there's there's my League sports for you
that they actually took that. I was like, well, I
thought that was part of that. No, there's no, It's
not like you go into the locker room now and
there's like protein bars and waters and anything you can
(26:58):
think of in Massize there It's like, Nah, that ain't
the way. That ain't the way. Doug Gottlieb Show here

Yes with the press, the press, Hey Mons, what you
(28:14):
got all right?
Speaker 5 (28:15):
Coach?
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Let's start with this golf story because it's just not
when I was expecting, but Oakmont Country Club has banned
golfer Wyndham Clark from its property after he damaged his
locker following a miscut at Less once us Open Now.
The story apparently is that the band can be lifted
(28:37):
if Clark pays for damages makes a meaningful contribution to
a charity selected by the Oakmont Country Club Board and
undergoes counseling and or anger management therapy.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Okay, it's a lot, it is, isn't it all.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
It's just a lot. It's just a lot.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
And as I feel, like, you know, it's funny because
at Dodger Stadium, the place where the in the dugout
where they put their bats, it is all banged up
from players getting mad and hitting it and destroying it
and then they just tape it and then like cover
it up, and so hearing the story is like, oh,
all right, Oakmont Country Club, you really didn't like this
(29:20):
reaction from Wyndham Clark, did you.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Nope? No, well nor does nor should she, nor should they. Sure,
But so here's my thing on Obviously, I'm not Wyndham Clark.
He's a great golfer. I'm a duffer. But I don't
get mad anymore because I'm like, I'm not good enough,
nor do I practice enough. You can only get mad
when you put in all the effort then you don't
perform in the right moments. So I do understand him
(29:48):
his performance or whatever, or his being upset at his performance,
But like dude, you got to chill out. And also,
you know, golf is just different. It's like, you know,
if you walk into a clubhouse, sometimes your hat backwards,
they look at you sideways. Let alone if you take
your club.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
And yeah, I guess you're right.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Yes, Oakmont really wants their pound of flesh here. That
the excessive nature of that of those conditions tells me
that there's something we don't know. In other words, he
can't be the first golfer to go off on his
locker room agree but maybe he also handled it poorly
with what like security or something. Maybe he like bad
(30:28):
mouth people that stepped in. Like there just seems something
here that the club is really wants him to look foolish,
to apologize the whole charity contribution, pay for the locker
and take these anger. Man. It's almost like they're saying,
you're never coming back, because I don't think he's actually
(30:49):
gonna bend the knee and do all that stuff. See
something's going on here beyond the actual report.
Speaker 5 (30:56):
I like that. I like that.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Jason, all right, we're gonna move on to baseball here. Coach,
Let's hear a little bit of Kyle Schwarber after winning
the All Star Game MVP.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
This is on Fox TV. I'm just gonna have you
listen to a little bit of it.
Speaker 6 (31:10):
The Ted Williams MVP to tonight's winner. It's Philly superstar
Kyle Schwarber. Everyone, Well, you made some history. What was
it like to participate in that?
Speaker 7 (31:23):
It was interesting, exciting, fun. There's a lot of guys
who deserve this, but I'm happy that it's going home
with us to Philly.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
You know, take me through when your thought process was it?
Once you got one? Do you just get red hot
like a three point shoot? What was your thought process
going knowing you only had three swings? Oh?
Speaker 7 (31:40):
Man? Just trying to not hit a home run? I guess,
just trying to stay short because if I would have
tried to hit a home run and I would probably
hit my guys over there. But just happy that it
worked out for us and the National League's going home
with one, you guys.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
I mean, there's more to it, but I feel like
it was such a perfect Kyle Schwarber moment because all
he does is home runs for the Phillies. With this story, though,
Coach Logan, a web pitcher in baseball, says that he
has a group chat. There's a story on bleacher Report
that you can read that he is a group chat
and this is the quote. I've got a group text
(32:17):
going with a couple of other players around baseball, and
they said that we should never play an extra inning
game again. Just do it like that the way we
saw it last night in the All Star Game, a.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
Home run off.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
You know, three batters, three pitches, see who gets the
most home runs.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
So the players like it, coach, well.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Yeah, Also the players hate X ratings. That's actually the
bigger story, which is like I thought when they moved
the runner to second base for extra innings, I thought
players would be like, this is a joke. And you
talk to players like, no, man, like we're good, wrap
it up. There's one hundred and sixty two of them.
Let's not go crazy for sure, But yeah, I think
it would. It's cool in the All Star Game. I
(33:03):
think you would get to be a little clownish if
as in the regular season.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
You know, I don't disagree with you. I liked it
so much. I don't know if I would love it
for the regular season game, especially because like you said,
there's there's so many games and if you see this
over and over. It's going to kind of lose the fun,
cool side of it that we got to experience. I'm
surprised though, that there are players who are for it,
because it can come off gimmicky. It can't come off
(33:28):
as Nicka Saillano said, Savannah bananas.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
It is Savannah banas.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
It is Savannah Bananas.
Speaker 8 (33:35):
But it's like, yeah, go ahead, I just don't The
whole thing was was strange to me, and that I
don't know if you guys heard John smoltz live reaction
to the those home runs by Schwarber.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
It was so over the top. And I understand it's
Fox's job. Do I really overplay everything as a big deal,
But like Smoltz is more usually more measure than that,
Like nobody has seen more things in baseball than John Small.
But the way he was describing Schwarber going three for three,
I think he used the word speechless. He says, I'm shocked.
(34:09):
You have no idea how clutch this is. He's definitely
gonna sew up the MVP, And I'm like, what is
going on with all this hyperbole? These are batting practice pitches.
He probably hit three straight home runs every single night
in batting practice. It's it was just so strange to
hear Smoltz go over the top with that.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
He was excited, but I didn't think of it like that.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
But now when you when you put it into perspective,
he did get really excited, like if it was a
World series, right like.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
When you factory and he got super excited. And then
Colin says, like, that was the greatest All Star game ever.
You do wonder if we just didn't get the memo
that we're supposed to go over the top in our
praise of the game.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
All right, moving on, here's still more baseball for you, coach, though,
I'm going to give some credit here to the rain.
So apparently the Rangers are going to give their picture
and Nathan Eovaldi one hundred grand as an All Star
bonus despite him not making the team.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
He would Eovaldi would lead the majors in era, but
he missed He missed a month due to a triceps injury,
so he fell six innings short of the necessary ninety
seven innings to qualify among leaders for individual statistical categories,
so he would have been at the top. He did
not make the All Star Game. Some people thought it
was a snub. But here are the Rangers coming in
(35:31):
and saying, no, we're gonna give you the bonus.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Give it up for the Rangers.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
We didn't the Phillies do the same.
Speaker 5 (35:37):
Thing they did. They did to Christopher Sanchez.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
I believe I think Ranger sare what his name is?
Speaker 1 (35:44):
What does it?
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Na?
Speaker 8 (35:46):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Yeah, us, I'm thinking of a different person that also
maybe uh, yes, yes.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Yes, I think there were two actually, but yeah, I mean,
I guess, I don't know. I mean, don't you actually
have to make the All Star Game to get your bonus?
But fine, but we've reached participation in trophy stage.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
No, I don't like that. I don't like that at all,
that you look at it that way. All right.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
I don't know if you looked at social media early
this morning, coach. But Ken Rosenthal, who was covering the game,
kind of got got a little heat, got a little
dragged on social media because of the questions he gave
Jacob Mazerowski in the dugout. Jacob is that young guy
after only four starts got the All Star right? And
people are like, no, and so if you if you
weren't watching, he just tells him straight up, like, obviously
(36:32):
people weren't happy you were here, So how are your
teammates treating you? And he kind of doubled down on
that question, and he's being dragged because they're like, why
would you put this kid.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
In that position?
Speaker 3 (36:42):
I didn't think of it like that watching it, so
I was surprised that they all let me help you.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Let me help you. Shut up people. You don't know
what you're talking about. It was the biggest story of
the All Star Game. Okay, this is Eric Hosmer, who's
a former pro is now a podcaster. Eric. If you
want to be in the business, figure it out. You
gotta ask questions that people want answers to. Okay, he's
he's not fragile, he's a major leaguer. He's in the
(37:08):
All Star Game. Everybody knows. The Philadelphia Phillies came out
and said, like, this is a joke, So they asked him.
He asked him a pretty good question. Hey man, I'll
be able. Been talking about it. How they entering you? Great?
He handled it great. It wasn't a bad question, wasn't
a hard question. Okay, what you're doing is you're mirroring
the guy who's the President of the United States, who
anytime he gets a legitimate question says, it's a dumb question,
(37:30):
you're fat, you're ugly, whatever, shut up. It's all anybody
talked about about the All Star Game. If you don't
want people talk about your All Star Game, we won't
talk about it. And then go away. And that's suppressed
out the impressed that the press so much to make
sure that wasn't directed to you. That's the narrative of
people now you. It's just mind blowing. And again I
(37:51):
don't care about Twitter and people dragging you because people
on Twitter continue to look like the dumbest people ever.
And we are not going to be the show. And
we've done it a couple of times. Jason, you apologize
for it, of I think I know I loo did
it right where you take people's quotes that don't matter
on Twitter. But Eric Cosmer is like a form major
leaguer and he's wrong and he's wrong. Have a great
(38:13):
day on The Doug Gottlieb Show.
