(00:45):
We'll ask him, I mean, why are we even asking
if the Eagles would bench? Jalen hurts like, I don't know,
seems like sports radio fier. Plus. We'll talk about the
rest of the National Football League before we get to that.
Let's do what we do every Wednesday. It is the
middle of the day. It is the middle of the week.
It is Frank in the middle of the show. Because

(01:06):
we've got our hour podcast, which you can download, like
any of our podcasts, just type in Doug Gottlieb Show,
type in the check out the podcast. You get the
two hours of live radio show and you get the
in the bonus podcast, which apparently everybody loves because we
say the efford fruit fruit is the F word. Just kidding,
let's get it there. It's not getting the middle with you.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
It's time for stuck in the middle the midway.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Okay, there, Jason, what's the topic of the midway from here?

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I sent out two topics to the group text and
I got one response, So I think we need to
do a production meeting on the year. I gave two options.
A third was not presented. So here are the two options.
What is your fix for the college football playoff fix?

Speaker 5 (02:08):
What's your fix?

Speaker 4 (02:10):
You know, we can have an interesting conversation about each
other's fixes. I think R J. Young he presented a
fix thirty minutes ago that Doug utterly shot down and
demoralized and it wasn't even fair.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
They're just not going to play seventeen games.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yeah, the listeners heard it, they saw they saw the
massacre on the air, and then Marcus Freeman getting interest
from the NFL and it it kind of struck a
personal cored with me. And I want to say, in life,
do you stay at a great job that you are
loved at and you're good at for a bigger challenge

(02:48):
more stress but more money?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I don't know if it's more stress. Again, I don't
know what what Marcus Freeman's job is like. But again
I don't know if it's more stress. But again both
are topics. Dan, do you have a lean Well?

Speaker 5 (03:04):
I did on the group text. Did I did tell you?
It just tells me you didn't read my response, Doug,
I said, job, I have ideas on the college football playoff,
but I would rather talk about.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
The Jay Stews.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
I kind of like the job. You know, everyone could
relate to that.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Right, Okay, buyer, why don't you go first?

Speaker 5 (03:25):
So I think that there's a lot of and it's
not just Marcus Freeman, just even reading within the last hour.
Jim Knowles, Remember Jim Knowles was the hottest name in
college football for a couple of years for what he
did at Oklahoma State. Is their defensive coordinator, Then Ohio
State lures him away for millions. Penn State then lures
him away last off season for probably a million more,

(03:48):
and now he's likely on his way to Tennessee as
James Franklin's no longer a happy Valley and Matt Campbell's
bringing in his own crew. So when you chase the money,
I think that that is a situation that can show you,
all right, maybe the grass isn't always greener now matter
Ohio State. He ended up winning a national championship, right
for the two million dollars a year that they paid

(04:11):
him to get him to leave Oklahoma State. But then
maybe leaving Ohio State wasn't the greatest thing for him
to go for a million dollars more. I think it's
the grass. The grass being greener on the other side,
cannot be about money. It has to be about accomplishment.
So if Marcus Freeman's goal is to become a Super

(04:33):
Bowl winning head coach, then I think you should go
to the National Football League and take those offers to
do that. But if you're just chasing the dollar, I
don't think that you're ever going to be happy.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Look, he has six kids, is that right? It's a
lot to gaggle. It's more than a couple, definitely more
than a few. I think it's six. Could be wrong.
Dan is a fiver or is six? I don't know,
actually I don't at seven seven children, all right, that's

(05:15):
a recruiting class. So and he does a great job
of crediting his wife with like, hey, I'm barely home.
You know, she does an amazing job. I just with
the realities of these jobs. I know we're sitting there
going like it doesn't really matter. I'm gonna tell you,
I think it does, especially a guy who has seven

(05:37):
kids and it matters that much to him. My guess
is he ain't leaving for the pros. Now. The good
thing about the pros is your off season is actually
your off season college. You don't recruit off campus nearly
as much as you used to. You're recruiting out of

(05:58):
the portal. It can be a fairly in person a
high school recruiting is still big at Notre Dame, but
they do recruit out of the portal a good amount
as well. I just think in terms of family and community,
you stay or in the college environment. Now, my only
question is this is actually really Dan he played Ohio State.

(06:18):
Is his dream job Ohio State? And if his dream
job is Ohio State, he just you got I guess
wait it out, or you go to the pros and
then you can always come back when Ohio State comes
open and you've cashed in a bunch of money. The
problem is, again, you've got seven kids. I'm guessing five
or six of them are school age. I don't know
the spread of all the number of kids taking them out,

(06:40):
moved them to like New York, the Giants or something like.
I just it's a hard life and I don't see it.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
I'll say this like when you talk about the Ohio
State job, like, honestly, there's a bunch of guys that
their dream job is Ohio State. Like Alex Golis, you
just went from South Florida to Auburn. Probably dream job
go up back to Ohio State. Ryan Hartline, who just
left this you know he's going to stay on through
the playoff as the coordinator, but he's going to go
to South Florida. Why did he take the South Florida job? So?

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Is it the only way to get the Hog States?

Speaker 5 (07:11):
Yes, that's at least what a lot of people feel.
So like in those instances like what is the best
way to do it? And somebody's going to be left out? Now,
if Ryan Day were to leave tomorrow, Marcus Freeman being
a candidate at the top, you know, would he definitely
topped the list of anybody out there of taking that job.

(07:32):
But you know what would would that be the would
that even be the timing of the move?

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I'm telling you who's going to come after him in
a year?

Speaker 5 (07:41):
Who's that?

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Michigan?

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Yeah? Maybe? Yeah? The Charon More era. Yeah, has not
come to fruition despite signing. He just had a really
good recruiting class. Michigan will see how that pans out.

Speaker 6 (07:57):
He has improved year over year on his record, Right,
it's two.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Years he started a freshman quarterback. They're gonna have ups
and downs. I mean, you gotta get yeah, you got
to get better.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
By five and now he's nine and three.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
Right, Yeah, I actually yeah, I like, from the outside
looking in and not knowing all of the ins and
outs there, I've actually felt that he's done an alright job.
But there is this and maybe it's social media blowing
it out of proportion, but there's a bit of this
undercurrent that isn't happy with what he's done. Sure, I
mean I don't know if he should have gotten the
job for all the other stuff that he was implicated in,

(08:30):
but that's neither here nor there. But yeah, if they
have a they have an eight and three season and
lose to Ohio State again, yeah, I think that. You know,
it's going to be a name that's put out there.
But would you leave Notre Dame for Michigan? I The
Dame job to me is I mean top of the top.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
So so so for you guys to understand, Okay, Notre
Dame for a long time didn't pay, didn't pay, didn't
take transfers, and it was hard to get into. Okay,
that was that was a limited Notre Dame. Didn't pay,
hard to get into, didn't take transfers, take transfers. Now
I think they pay a lot of money. They have

(09:08):
a ton of money, and they're more reasonable. Again, it's
not a junior college, not a lot of everybody in,
but more reasonable about getting kids into school. If you
do that at Notre Dame, why would you ever leave?

Speaker 5 (09:28):
Why would why would you leave?

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Would? I would never leave? It is an unbelievable job.
It is. I think again. If those three things are true, it's,
in any conversation, the best job in the country because
it's synonymous with college football. You can get into any
household for recruiting. You're a draw national TV. You're making
a lot of money. It does cost nothing to live there.

(09:51):
You know, you can, you know, you can go to Michigan.
You know, drive up to Michigan on the coast and
have a have a home there in the summer and
be on the water, play golf whatever. Like you're an
hour and a half from Chicago. You got alums everywhere,
Notre Dame alums. Let me tell you what it's like
to play a Notre Dame in basketball. And we weren't
any good everywhere we played, and we played all over
the country. After the game, there'd be a Notre Dame

(10:12):
club of Baltimore, of Miami, of Los Angeles, of wherever,
and you know, you'd have you'd meet and kind of
kidd it's a while or whatever. Now those guys are
all influential in terms of nil Again, Notre Dame is
not a job. I'm leaving an NFL job. NFL job
is just a job, just a job.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
You know, you're not going to see your seven children.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
It's all stressful. Okah, none of it's not stressed, but.

Speaker 7 (10:39):
Like the sleeping in the office thing that they claim
to do, you know, and I'm sure they do, but
like in the NFL, it's like even more.

Speaker 6 (10:45):
Time put into game planning.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
And I've heard people say though that the NFL, at least,
it's just about football.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
Yeah that's true. Yeah, it's true.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
And honestly college college where I just had a conversation
to the break about a class with one of my players,
but for the most part at the highest level, kind
is just about football there too. But now here's the
downside to college sports. Now, how it's do you got
to deal with agents, which you have to deal with
in the NFL, but more so, and if you're not
dealing always with the same level or quality of agent.

(11:16):
And until you get multi year contracts with guys, you
can have free agency every year, and that's really hard.
That's the one thing that will push guys to the
pros from college because dude, do I have to recruit
a whole news team every year? That's really really hard.
I have ten new players. It is not easy, not easy.

(11:36):
Like and I touch you guys this like, Nope, thought
that last year.

Speaker 5 (11:40):
I would also say this that if we're talking about
Marcus Freeman, that the Notre Dame job is probably better
than two thirds of the NFL jobs, Like of just
of we're looking at it like in a way like
the NFL is a step up because it's professional football,
it's ads, it's high level. I don't think that's ultimately.

(12:01):
I think some guys are made to coach pro football,
some guys are made to coach college football, and others
can go back and forth between both. But if you
took two thirds of the openings in the NFL and said, hey,
Marcus Freeman, you want to come here, considering like would
Marcus Freeman leave for the Raiders? That would that would
be absurd. Why would you ever go to that ownership

(12:23):
group right, never of your family to Vegas? Like that
doesn't and so then you can lose the job in
three or four years like that. So so like even
Notre Dame, when we're talking about the value of Notre Dame,
they're half, the NFL is eliminated in my mind, Yeah,
I agree with that.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Oh yeah, like you're not you're not taking falcons, you're
not taking Taguar.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
The Jets are taking jets. Like, that's not taking raiders.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
It's not Listen, you keep saying stress.

Speaker 7 (12:51):
No, I mean, but like like just the the monumental pressure,
just like it's.

Speaker 6 (12:56):
Just the talks, the toxic environment there.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Sam to him, how many SEC coaches were fired this year?

Speaker 5 (13:04):
A whole lot.

Speaker 7 (13:04):
I'm talking about the New York media though, I'm just
talking about the pressure them, you know, under the mic.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Again, let me just explain it. He's the head coach
at Notre Dame. Everything is micro managed. Okay, everything is
micro managed. There's an incredible level of stress and anxiety. Heck,
they lost two games by four points and won the
rest of their games and they're not in the college.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
No, no, I know I'm talking. I'm just speaking about
and you you.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Have James Franklinkay, James Franklin's won a Rose Bowl. James
Franklin's done everything for Penn State. Three games in the
season he was fired. He didn't have the choice, he
had to move his family.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Go. Look Mike Gundy won of twenty one years, eighteen
of them. He won won more games there than anybody's
ever won. Three games in gone. Now his Alma Matter.
He's no longer the coach there. It's super weird. So
my point is that if you think that the NFL
is more stressful than college football, no, I got news
for it.

Speaker 7 (13:58):
The culture surrounding the Jets, like a job like that
is just there's it's so negative, like a place like
Notre Dame.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
You can't win is kind of what you're saying. Unless
I win big, you can't win Notre Dame. It's going
to be a pressure cooker.

Speaker 7 (14:11):
But it's also there's gonna be a lot of positivity
behind you, and those fans are gonna be in the
stands every weekend.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Yeah, but college I agree with that second you have now,
South Bend's not a college town. The campus Notre Dame
is beautiful, it's not South Bend. There are some brilliant
Mishawaka is really nice area. But I do generally agree
with you it's not truly a college town.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
What was a smaller town then small town vibes not
small interject here, But I think that we have two
people in on this conversation that have had prominent jobs before,
not that they aren't now, but Jason was such a
key part of Jim Rome and Doug. You are such
a big part of ESPN. You've talked about the moving

(14:58):
of those jobs and move to different spots. I mean,
I think that that's sort of even just on the
on in this business or any other business, there's the
grass maybe isn't always greener.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
That's a great point. Don't don't mess with happy. I
just say, don't mess with happy. If you're not happy, well, okay,
there's no amount of money that's going to make you happier.
But if you're happy and you like who you work for,
you like who you work with, and you like where
your family is, just don't don't move.

Speaker 6 (15:30):

(16:07):
Sports Radio NFL insider. He also goes the Inside the
Birds podcast, What's wrong with Jalen Hurts?

Speaker 8 (16:13):
Huh, it's funny.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
I do.

Speaker 8 (16:15):
I do radio in like ten markets each week or
something like eight to ten, but this is the one.
What's funny you say this because he actually threw the
ball really well. Can't turn the ball over if you Doug,
if you I just like the hurts his throws, right,
if you just go through every throw, you go well,
he meets some great throws. He had two that were
not on him. A two turnovers were clearly on him.
Then the craziness of setting a record of two turnovers

(16:38):
on one play from the quarterback. So his actually was
not much wrong with him. He had a couple of
balls sale on him. There's some timing stuff. He actually
did not play badly. Like it's funny. I I'm checking
in a lot of players this week, and a lot
of situations around the league. I don't think the Eagles
are terribly upset. They're pissed it they lost the game,
but I don't it's not what the fans thought. I
understand the reaction because when you turn on the bill

(17:00):
over five times, everybody points to the quarterback. That's understandable.
You played point guard, you know, Doug. It's all on
the guy who's distributing the football. Hurts as a ball
distributor as a quarterback, and he can't turn them brawlover.
But there was really nothing. What was wrong with him
was really the Bears game. He was awful in that game.
This game, he was really not. But again, that keeps
scoring under twenty points. And that is the part that's
on the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Yeah, okay, uh. What does the rest of their season
look like to you?

Speaker 8 (17:27):
Philly? I would say that it would be hard for
them not to win the division. They're game in half
up no one, Doug. It's one of the most ridiculous
records in sports. No one's won the NFC. He's back
to back in twenty one years. But Philly should have it.
They have a little bit of an easier schedule over Dallas.
Duallas of course has the odd tie. But you know,
it's a funny business this. You know, we talked about

(17:49):
Jalen Hurts and you know here in Philly in this market,
fans don't know what to make of him. He's so inconsistent.
But if you really and I was talking to a
friend of mine with a team that is this off
the phone about twenty minutes ago. We had a great
talk about Hurts, ironically in a bunch of other situations.
He said, you'd love to be in a position where
you at least know who your quarterback is, right because

(18:10):
if you go through it, if you go through Arizona,
they don't know who the future quarterback is. New Orleans
they don't know who it is. Okay, if you look
at the Raiders, they absolutely do have no idea who
it is. Cleveland has no idea who it is. Jets
have no idea who it is. So the fans could
beat up Jalen Hurts all they want, you, guys, a
super Bowl winner. You see what Matthew Stafford's doing when
you hang in with a guy though he's older, he's

(18:32):
playing a league football. When you have cost certainty, you
know what you have. At least you have a chance.
And that's what the Eagles know with Jalen Hurts. Although
you really like his backup Tanner McKee, who I believe
will you had a first round pick, believe it or
not in March. But it is really funny, Doug, because
this Eagles team is so polarizing. I don't know what
it is, but people love to talk about it, so
I'm happy to.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Talk about Yeah. I think there's a little Russell Wilson
to him in that he is very concerned with appearance,
and I don't know I agree with that. I also
like Russell Wilson. Don't know if his teammates, all of
his teammates gravitate towards him the way they gravitate towards
some quarterbacks. I think that's a that's a question. I
don't know as an outsider. Maybe maybe you know this

(19:13):
is the Doug Out Show. You listen to Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
what about the what about the other side? You have
the Chargers survive with their quarterback playing a couple of
days after having his broken hand repaired, but they're still
kind of held together by patch patchwork offensive line. Trey
Pipkin's getting hurt now, yeah, and the defense came through.

(19:35):
What does it look like for them considering they're limping
to the finish?

Speaker 8 (19:38):
Yeah, I would say, Doug with the Chargers. Jesse Mentor,
who will be a head coaching candidate by the way,
he's done a great job. It's not the most talented defense,
it's execution. Uh. They they execute their own defense very
very well. There they're they're right there. I mean, it's
unlikely that they're going to win a division, but they're
almost starting to be a wild card. There are the
look Herbert has never had this injury before.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
He look.

Speaker 8 (20:00):
I give the guy credit. He actually led them in rushing,
which is not only did he leave them in rushing,
he had the most carries in any game he's had
over the last two seasons. It just doesn't make any
sense he would have this with a broken left hand.
He struggled to throw the football. Their line, as you mentioned,
they struggle to pass protect. He's the most pressure quarterback
in the game this year was this one. But yet
they've found a way to win. I give the guy credit.

(20:21):
He's good. She gotta have to play with this. It's
going to take six weeks for this thing to heal
and one heel to the playoffs. They're a good team,
but they're not a super Bowl team. But I say
that this guy I was mentioning who I talked to today.
He said, Man, this is here to make the playoffs
because anybody will win it. I you could say that
the Rams and the Broncos because they have the best records. Well,
New England does, but they're not as talented. They're tied
with Denver with the best record. But there's no dominant team, Doug.

(20:44):
If you can get in, you could win this thing.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Now.

Speaker 8 (20:47):
I say that Pittsburgh has no chance. They're not winning
the Super Bowl. I know that right now. They're the
four seed and they have an advantage over Baltimore right now,
but they have to play on once more. And the
Colts thing is crazy with Philip Rivers. I love it,
but you know it is a wide open year. There
are no dominant teams. This rarely happens, Doug. You usually
kind of know by now who the best team is.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
You do, and I have no idea either, Okay.

Speaker 8 (21:10):
Which is great. I think it's great. People. Look, the
league loves this.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Isn't it interesting that I think the Bears in a loss,
gained a lot of respect maybe because they beat the
Eagles before. Where are you on the Bears now that
you've seen them against the Eagles and Packers and back
to back weeks.

Speaker 8 (21:25):
It's a good question, I would say with the Bears.
Like my thoughts checking with people are in the league
on the Bears was this like no one really expected
a lot. You know, you didn't know about Ben Johnson. Defensively,
they don't really have much of passerage. They've been really
banged up in the secondary. I think the thing with
Caleb wins is he's improved. He's not taking sacks like
he did last year. But Doug, the problem with him

(21:47):
is is the accuracy. He misses his throws. He got
a hit, he can run, he's got a candidate of
an arm. He's coachable from I understand he's been coached better,
much better this season with this staff, and see Ben
Johnson and the head coaches calling the plays. But they're
another team, kind of like New England. They're just so
ahead a schedule.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Now.

Speaker 8 (22:07):
The thing is, I remember talking to the Giants, Doug.
I want to bring this up because I want folks
to understand how it works. So I talked to the
Giants during the twenty two season after when they shocked
the world and made the playoffs and won a playoff game,
they went to Minnesota, right, they knew their team was
not as good as the record would in the cap
and they you know, they're like, wow, we're gonna have
to have a good assis. We just know we're not
that good, and we overachieve. We think we did a

(22:28):
good job coaching and all that, and you saw the
things spire out of control. Dable just got fired. So
I think you look at New England and talking to them,
I think they're very realistic ow and who they are
and what they are. They're ahead of schedule. Variable has
done a phenomenal job. He's learned a lot during his
time off and this time they spent with the Browns.
He's become a better head coach from talking to people there.

(22:49):
And then you got teams like you got a team
like Green Bay that's maybe the NFL's most talented team.
But somehow when the playoffs come, Matt Lafleur's a different coach.
I've called him the Lamar Jackson of head coach. Is
great regular season coach, not good in the playoffs. It
gets too tight. So it's so wide hoping I have
I have to do this. I I vote in two
polls up doing the for the playoff, I have to

(23:11):
pick like m v P and you know, so many
different for the ProFootball RGS Association, which is it's deeper,
it's not as recognized as AP, but it's it's a
pretty involved process. I got a problem with these awards.
I'm not sure where I'm going with any of this.
I I although i'd i'd vote for Stafford right now
as MVP.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
U S Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio,
I'm I'm sort of interested. I'm not sort of I'm
actually very interested on your take on the Chiefs. How
has this thing gone bad so bad so quickly?

Speaker 8 (23:43):
Yeah, you know, I I'm on w HB tomorrow, so
I've been on there for eight years and I'm gonna
have to talk about this. So in fact, I told
the host Stephen Saint Jahan's Steve, I think we got
to start looking toward the draft, and He's like, no,
I go, yeah, dude. So I'm gonna give you, Doug
what I have on this. So it's not an injury thing.
It it's partially age as great as Brett Feach is
one of the top three gms in the league any

(24:04):
read obviously one of the top two or three head
coaches in for history. They missed badly on some personnel.
Bad at cornerback. I knew this in the off season.
I've said it week after week. They're going to have
to do something at corner They missed on Kristin Fulton,
who came up from the Chargers. He didn't even play.
They owned six million dollars next year. Whether he's plays
footballor not. Again, that's guaranteed. They missed on that. They

(24:24):
missed with Jowan Taylor, the right tackle. The only reason
why they didn't cut him the off seasons because they
owned twenty million. Fully guaranteed. They missed on that. They
they traded Joe Toney. Okay, he's not a left tackle. Well,
he had to play left back on the Super Bowl
because they had nobody else. He's playing great football with Chicago.
That was a mistake. They haven't run the ball particularly well,
and then in Mahomes has been inconsistent and Kelsey still

(24:46):
looks like he can play. They're not getting the playmaking
they thought out of Xavier Worth. He's been hurt a lot.
Hollywood Brown has not progressed like they thought. He's really
not been hurt like he was last year. They're not
getting the play. So's to answer your question, it's missus
in person, unfortunately from a great front. Officers just not
having a great year and players who they thought would
do better are not doing as well. And to answer

(25:07):
your question, that's one hundred percent. This is what I've
been told, and that's that's the issue.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
That sounds sound sounds about right to me? Who are
we missing? That's actually good? Like? Is Jacksonville good? Like?
Who are we missing?

Speaker 8 (25:22):
At one? I've gotten a couple right. I got Seattle
right for sure. I didn't see this in le see
these first year coaches. It's just you really don't know.
And Anthony Campinelli, their defense coordinator, is I have to vote.
I have to vote for defensive Coach of the year.
He's probably gonna get it if they win the division,
which they should. I don't think Houston's that good. I

(25:42):
give Houston credit. They're on a they're on a small
heater here, but they're really not as good as either
eight and five record would say it is. But Jacksonville,
to me and Trevor Lawrence was turning them over left
and right. He's starting to play under control. Their defense
is probably overachieved, not the most talented defense, great coaching,
next Cuchin and buy And by the way, that's the thing,

(26:03):
this thing is so much better than anyone thought they
If you look at their roster, you go, okay, this
is probably a six or seven win team. Maybe if
if Liam Cone does a great job, maybe they'll be
eight or nine wins. Both they already have nine and
they probably will have eleven or twelve. They well, they
have an interest schedule and the Colts they may not
win another game. I just feel so bad for Chris
Boald GM and Colt fans who were riding high at

(26:25):
eight and two now, but they're struggling and they got problems.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Adam Kaplan is our guest here on the Doug Gottlieb
Show on Fox Sports Tradio. I have breaking news, caps,
so hold on real quick, let's take it. Turn it
over to Dan by Er.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
Canny breaking news from Fox Sports Doug.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
A report from ESPN says that the University of Michigan
has fired head football coach Sharon Moore. So Charon Moore
out after two seasons as the Wolverines head coach.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Still still think there's not a lot of pressure college
football there, Adam.

Speaker 8 (27:02):
That Wow, I was that is not wow? That that
because I know college football is crazy in the timing
of this stuff, that to me is is surprising. I
just yeah, that that that's a surprise to me. I
didn't see that happening you college Football's what I like
about college football is is this is kind of like
if you know, if you're an NFL guy like myself,

(27:24):
this is where you see that. You see the guys
in the infancy of their careers and but the pressure
though from the coaching standpoint. This is why, by the way,
with Doug, I was talking to a college head coach
a couple of weeks ago was kind of moved on.
I got a better job. I'm not gonna go to
who it was. But this is why these guys move
on because you never know if you don't, if you
don't meet expectations of what uh the alumni want and

(27:48):
people are in charge, you're going to get fired. You
know that, and you know you know you're coaching college basketball,
you kind of know the pressure that there is. Now
that that's surprising. I didn't see that one coming.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Then, I saw it coming next year. I did not
see coming with more.

Speaker 8 (28:02):
Yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Coming this year, but a last year.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
We are.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Really quickly in the off season. Okay, in the off season.
How valuable is Kyler Murray going to be on the
open market.

Speaker 8 (28:17):
It's a great question. Here's the thing with Kyler Murray.
It's this contract. There's a significant amount of guaranteed money
due to the next two years. Because of the contract structure,
the cardsoders are gonna most like, you have to eat
some of that money be able to trade him. They're
gonna have to eat some of that money. That's the
first thing. Now, Carler Murray's not gonna be for everybody.
He's under five ft ten, He's about five to nine
in a quarter, and that's you know, that's gonna be

(28:40):
a determin from teams trading for him. But they're they're
only thirty two of these jobs. Someone will be interested.
It'll probably happen. He's coming off with this fronk injury
and that's the concern. But the hottest guy I'm telling
you this right now because I got this from two
NFL people's gonna be Mac Jones.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
Believe or not.

Speaker 8 (28:57):
I know it's some people are Look, Mac, don't get
out of here. His tape, I'm told is phenomenal when
he filled in for brock Party. That's another reason why
they're still hanging in there. I mean, they're gonna make
the PLAYFFS most likely, but why they're alive for that
division and just why they're playing well is mac Jones
kind of kept everything afloat and played well. But he's
got to be in a West Coast system. He does
not have a strong arm. He's a timing based quarterback

(29:17):
and he's on the right system. He actually could be
this year's Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
You're the best, dude. I know it's a busy time
of year. Everybody wants to have you on. You got
great insight and everybody's talking about your Eagles. Remember check
out the inside.

Let's get to Dan Buyer for the Press the.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
Press, Dan Doug, We've got breaking news, as we just
broke a little while ago. ESPN the first to report
that Sharon Moore is out as the head football coach
at the University of Michigan. In a statement, Michigan is
saying that Moore was involved in an inappropriate relationship with

(30:27):
a staff member, so he has been terminated with cause,
effective immediately. Sharon Moore out of a job at Michigan.
Assistant Biff Pogey is going to take over as the
head coach as they get ready for the Citrus the
Cheese at Citrus Bowl against Texas on New Year's Eve.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Wow, Uh yeah, can't do it? Do it? Was he married?
I would assume.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
I don't know if he is or isn't.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Whatever it's done is done. So now the question becomes
who's next head coach at Michigan? I mean jesse mentor
becomes the easy call. I think he's done a great
job as defensive coordinated with the Chargers. Then that seem
to make sense. Keeps it in that Michigan family, and
he was the DC when they won the national championship.

Speaker 5 (31:18):
This was Doug. This was us just a few uh
within the last hour and Samuel saying that he is married, Yes,
yes he is, yes, But this was us talking about
not knowing about the news that was going to come
down about Doug. You posed the question about maybe Marcus
Freeman leaving Notre Dame possibly to a new job. This
is what we said earlier. If Ryan Day were to

(31:38):
leave tomorrow, Marcus Freeman being a candidate at the top,
you know what, he definitely topped the list of anybody
out there of taking that job. But you know what,
would would that be the would that even be the
timing of the move?

Speaker 2 (31:53):
I'm telling you, who's going to come after him in
a year?

Speaker 5 (31:56):
Who's that?

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Michigan?

Speaker 5 (32:00):
Yeah? Maybe, yeah, I don't think.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
I mean, I don't know. I don't think now is
the I don't think now is the time. It is
the most sound.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
You got a little bit more steam of us? Do
we have more of us? Yeah? Sure? The Charon more experience. Yeah,
has not come to fruition despite signing that he just
had a really good recruiting class Michigan will see how
that pans out.

Speaker 6 (32:26):
He has improved year over year on his record, right, it's.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Two years he started a freshman quarterback. They're going to
have ups and downs. I mean, you gotta get yeah,
you got to get better.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
To quit back five and now he's nine and three.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
Right, Yeah, I actually yeah, I like from the outside
looking in and not knowing all of the ins and
outs there, I've actually felt that he's done an alright job.
But there is this and maybe it's social media blowing
it out of proportion, but there's a bit of this
undercurrent that isn't happy with what he's done. Sure, I mean,
I don't know if he should have gotten the job
for all the other stuff that he was implicated in,

(32:59):
but that's neither here nor there. Well now they so, yes,
that was us earlier. I started to get my pointed.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
At the end.

Speaker 5 (33:06):
No idea, No, I had no idea.

Speaker 8 (33:09):
But I'm joking.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
This caught us all by surprise. They caught a lot
of people by surprise. But you know, Adam Schefter obviously
in a Michigan alum Dan Wetzel's based in Michigan very
close to the program, and Pete Thamil of ESPN. All
three were in on the news, the breaking news. I
think that there's a lot of it. I mean, I
don't think that there are people that wanted your own
more there and now it's kind of like the Mel

(33:32):
Tucker situation at Michigan State. Different situation with the contract
that Tucker signed. But if you can dismiss your own
more with cause and have a reason to do so,
I think they jumped at the opportunity to do so.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Uh yeah, yeah, I don't know. Michigan if they found
that stuff comes comes to light, there's nothing you can do. Look,
it's interesting now.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
Look at everything that else team that has come to
light with his role in all of the other stuff,
and they still gave him the head coaching job. Like
That's the thing that gets to me is hardball got
out basically Scott Clean he left, wins the National Championship clause. Yeah,
like he's not going to come back to college football.

(34:19):
But to for Michigan to be like, Okay, we're going
to keep our other guys around, that was surprising.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
That was their way of keeping all the players.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
Yes, I think it was also their way of saying,
we haven't done anything wrong, and now you have two
years of shar Own More.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
I don't think they did much wrong either, to be
honest with.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
You, Yeah that you and I dig the conversation.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
But I don't think that was their thought. I think
the thought was that they thought they could keep because
this is what happens now. Now you fire him, You're
gonna have to have a whole new football team next year.
That's what happens. Now, everybody hit the portal. They will
hit the portal, and you'll have, you know, in the
sixty new players, seventy new players next year.

Speaker 5 (34:56):
What happens, What happens to Indiana. I'm just I'm just
saying that Michigan did such a great job in saying
that they never did, ever, did anything wrong, and now
is the time where they fire Sharon More for an
inappropriate relationship, which is I'm not saying is should be allowed.
That's not what I'm saying, is that this is the
straw that broke the camel's back again.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Don't know the details. My guess it's not good.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
I find it timing's very interesting, that's for sure.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
But could Doug be right for the second time this
week he was out in front of the Philip Rivers
thing and he just said, the Marcus Freeman thing could
have you two for two.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
God, I wish I had that a lot of numbers.

Speaker 5 (35:34):
I don't think so, only because in our conversation that
we had that we were in no idea. Well, I
also don't think that Marcus Freeman would leave Notre Dame again.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
I don't. Again, I don't think he leaves from Michigan.
But you know, all it takes is one disappointing year
at Notre Dame where people are on him, coinciding with
Michigan or Penn State or Alabama or somebody being available,
and to be like, hey, if you're not happy there,
five X ext your money and we got more nil

(36:02):
and you'd be happy here.

Speaker 8 (36:03):
Again.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Doesn't mean it works, but that's the timing of how
it does work.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
Quick to pay off the teas. The NFL Draft is
shortening the time of first round picks. Starting in twenty
twenty six. It will be trimmed down from ten minutes
to eight minutes per team to make their first round selection.
Pete Alonzo is a Baltimore Oriole. Derek Lively done for
the year for the MAVs.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
God, if anybody has worse luck than the MAVs.

Speaker 5 (36:27):
Yeah, especially in the draft lottery. That's the press.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Press, right, No, I did, I forgot about I forgot
about that one. I forgot about that one. Check out
