the way tire buying should be. I was trying to
think of like clever things, you know, like here's what
it means clever numbers day. My number College was forty four. Again,
I know it can come all back around me. It's

(00:44):
my show. But my team, we did. We lost twenty
two in a row this year. Now we did. We
pulled ourselves out of it competitive down the stretch. But
our women's team, coached by Kayla Carrious, they just won
their twenty second row in twenty two. Twenty two is
forty four. So somehow we've like the cosmic world's kind
of collide and match up, and there's the beginning the

(01:07):
yang that that's what's going on. I mentioned that because, uh,
the wall of my office abuts the wall of her office,
and she's clearly doing a way better job than I'm doing.
So I want to have Kayla carry us on. Fresh
off of the Horizon League Championship game victory in which
they kind of kind of boat raced Fort Wayne right

(01:28):
that game was closed and then all of a sudden
it got out of hand. Kyla Carrious joins us here
on the Doug Outlet Show on Fox Sports Tradio. Coach,
how are you.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
I We're doing Greight now?

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah, you were like nervous last night and then you
guys hoop down the straight. What was the difference this
time against Fort Wayne? Because you know a week and
a half ago it was on campus at the Cress,
you're down six late, you had to come back for
US overtime win this one the fourth quarter, you guys
down shifted. What was the difference for your team?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah? Of all four Wings are really tough guard. I
mean you were there that game last weekend. They shoot
the lights out from the arc. I mean yesterday we
saw beat Cleveland Sagna semi final. They hit fifteen threes
and it's just what they do and it's just really
challenging for everybody in our league all season. So we
do that. That was our moo. We didn't do a
great job of it in first half. It was forty

(02:20):
to forty at halftime, which is way more points than
we normally give up. But in a third quarter, I
think we really we tighten up on the defensive end
and we didn't allow them to get easy looks. They
only hit one three in the quarter, and when we
started to get stops, then we made more things happen
in transition. And Jenna Geyer was phenomenal in that quarter
team off the bench, she scored eight straight points, two

(02:42):
threes and another bucket. And then Natalie McNeil was special today.
I mean she's already like in offensive guru. She had
twenty six points. She has a jumper like a dude.
I mean she rises up. I would say, like a
lot of people actually guard her pretty well and there's
still nothing they can do about it. I was really
proud of her. She just started taking over and then

(03:03):
she guarded their best player, who was the number one
three point shooter in the country percentage wise and held
her to five points. So I just think she was
the MVP of the tournament. And I think third quarters
when it all started to shift for us.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
You've noticed a long time. Obviously, this is your third
full season head coach, the last two years in South Dakota.
What's going to take your ALBA monitor to the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
It is like so different.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
It's so special because this is the place that I
played at and when I was a player, we made
it to three NCAA tournaments and twice won the tournament
title once got in that large bid. So I just
I know the feeling is a player, and I just
know that you're part of a very small group of
teams who can claim their ticket to the Big Dance
and we get to just see their names pop up

(03:51):
in selection Sunday, and I just like tap into that
feeling again and I just want all of our players
to soak this up because it's a very special thing.
And for these seniors is to stay put last spring,
and even with the coaching chains decide they were all
going to stay like that just doesn't happen very much anymore.
These these players have the option to leave anytime they want,
and they just said we want to run it back.

(04:13):
And they didn't even know who the coast is going
to be. They just said, we love green Bay, we
love this place. We're gonna do this together. And I
think that makes it even more special to do it
with this group of people.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, Katakarius joining us, she's the head coach of green Bay.
But the women's side, they've won twenty two in a row.
There is something there with the y in the end, right,
we lose plight he row. You guys win twenty to row.
It's perfect. But now you guys, we avoided getting to
twenty three. You guys got to get to twenty three.
What what's the seed outlook in the bracket? What are

(04:43):
you hearing as far as your seed might be.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
It's so funny people, I've heard I've gotten this question
in the last hour. I have not paid one second
of attention to what that could be. So come on,
not even answer for you, not even no.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
I didn't.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I don't look at that at all. If you would
ask my husband, he's hoping that we're like at twelve
or I think is what he said. Just hoping that
we get a great see where we don't have to
honestly go and play a host school and play on
their home floor. I think we just the seating part
is really important and the matchup, I should say, is
really important for us because I think that this crew

(05:20):
can go get twenty three and twenty four in a row.
I think we can do that. But I'm serious, I
have not paid attention to it. I think sometimes that's
bad mojo.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
What is that for people to know? Rick Caryas is
a long time former college assistant, right and of course
he's your he's your your everything, and he's chosen to
take a break from his career to raise your daughter,
which you had last year. By the way, you want
to talk about a trooper? What was it six days
after give him birth? Last year you coached?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yes, yeah, you're not.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
You're way more psychotic than I am. What's this like
for him? Right? Like? Because you know, we're like you
can become a different breed when you're a coach. But
what's a lot to be a coach and have your
spouse and then all the pressure and what do you
think this is like for him?

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Well, if you see him in the stands, would he
would think he just needs to calm down. I think
I think he's coaching from the stands. I think he's
in fact today at one point and in mind you
it was they do it like a kid game for
the champion. It's up here, so there were like twenty
five hundred little kids. So he's very loud and I
still heard him at one point yell, you still have
two timeouts. And so he's legit coaching from the stands,

(06:33):
which is awesome. He's so invested and I mean, trust me,
when I go home. The film sessions are are really
pinpointed at the coaching. Sometimes he's like, what were you
thinking right here? What were we see? Now? If we
were thinking clearly here, this is what we would do,
and it's it's really good to have like fresh eyes
on the situation. Sure, and he doesn't have a really

(06:53):
good experience. He's coached with really good coaches, you know,
as we've talked about. He's with Craig Smith for a while,
and he was with Brian Wardle his first year at
Bradley and he's just kicking butt and down the line.
Brian Baroni he coached with him, and he of course
everybody always punched his ticket with Siue earlier this week.
So he just has like had really good coaches around him,
and he's he loves it. He's so invested. So I

(07:15):
think he was here today and I just he didn't
want to leave. I think he was the last person out.
He just wants to soak it all up.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Okay, So here's here's the question I've always want to know. Right,
So you're standing there and you guys, all of a sudden,
the lead balloon to about like fourteen, and then they
couldn't rebound. They went from turning you eyes over I
think like four straight possessions too. They couldn't do everything right,
and with about two and a half to go, it

(07:44):
felt like he was in a hand like are you
are you trying to speed up the clock? Like what's
what's going on in your brain as it's ticking down
to get to the NCAA Tournament.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
I think I wasn't allowing myself to relax, and so
probably about that under a minute mark where I thought, okay,
I got to get people off the floor and let's
start to celebrate. Up until that point, I think you're
just especially with a team like that, who can score
so quickly, you just can't help but think, like, okay,
we're we're not through this yet, even though there's you
know whatever, it was a fourteen point lead with four minutes,

(08:16):
three minutes ago. It seems like a big mountain to climb,
but you just never feel comfortable, and so it really
gets under a minute and then you know that it's
in hand, you know. I think actually as the game
went on, especially in the fourth quarter, I think our
offensive rebounding was huge because we would miss a shot,
but we'd get it right back and they'd have to
play defense again. And I just think, you know, we
just kept kept staying on the offensive end. They just

(08:37):
they didn't have enough time for enough looks.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
All right, Well, I'm trying to see here where they
have you seated. I don't know where you're seated. But
everybody should watch it because your team is a machine.
They're just they're amazing how they play. There's so much
fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
It's so fun, and they just like wanted so bad
for each other, you know, like today was like Nat
had a great day, but then Jenna Guyer steps up
and has a good day, and it could be anybody
today and they're all okay with that, And I say again,
I talk about rarity in the college game right now.
Everybody wants it for themselves and if you can sacrifice
that and do it for the good of the team,
it's just amazing what can happen.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
That's called coaching, and that's what you're doing. You're killing it.
So early halfway last thing, we talked about this to
start the show game. Okay, if it was at the Crest,
there'd be four thousand people there today. So look, they
had crowd because they had kids Day. And you know,
so what do you think like home sites or neutral sites,
what's your honest opinion.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Well, I definitely think that the tournament at the home
site would be a better environment. And I know what
that sounds like to everybody else, but I think it's true.
Like so, when I was a player at Green Bay,
that's how they did it. You would all host the
quarterfinals like the way they do now, and then semi
finals and finals would always go to the highest seed remaining,

(09:54):
and that being the one seed, you would know that
you were hosting. And we had unbelievable crowds for those
championship games. And I just think you know, everybody's got
a bear shot at it because everybody can go and
try to win the regular season. So I don't think
you're favoring one side or the other. I just I
think our crowd, like you saw last Saturday, the last
regular season home game, we had thirty five hundred people

(10:15):
there and you're just looking around like this is so
good for women's basketball, and like watching the sport grow
the way that it has over the last year or two.
It's just it goes to show when you like make
that available for people, they'll come out on the watch.
And we had a great crowd. I wanted to say that.
We had a fan bus come down to Indy and
so that was great, a bunch of parents, we had
a ton of people here. But it's still not comparable

(10:38):
to what the Crest Center would be. So I talked
to our league about it. I'm going to continue to
probably be a little bothersome in their year to try
and get that done. I think we're locked into Indy
for another couple of years. But I do think there's
really something special about being at the Crest Center. We
have the best fan We've been number one in the
in the league for attendance for twenty five years running.
I mean, you want to sell some tickets, like, let's

(11:01):
have an agreement.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
That's crazy. Well, Kayla, have safe travels back from Indie.
We are so proud of you guys, and thanks so
much for joining me.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Thank you, and hey, we love all your support. Your
menstaff has been just awesome a little season. We share
a hallway, like I heard you mentioned earlier, and just
not just you and you and I sharing a wall,
but everybody is down in our hallway is just always
rooting for each other. So we along the way. I've
always told you guys, we have your backs and we're
rooting for you guys in the future. Is just a
cool place when we all support each other.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
So hey, hey listening, you keep winning, you keep winning.
Overall basketball record above five hundred. Just that's all you
got to know. That's how we're going to calculate it.
Now your record's balancing out, so then that's what we
can post. Good. Thanks, Kayla. It's the Doug Otlive Show

the Doug ottlab Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
it's a it's a cool thing to be to be
a part of, right when you're like but it's also
very weird. This it reminds me a lot my first

(12:15):
year playing. We were at Notre Dame and it was
Notre Dame's first year in the Big East Conference. Okay
this is nineteen ninety six, and it was the first
year that the Big East had games. The championship game
for the Big East used to be on Sunday, and
so it was the first year they had games on
a Thursday. So we played Syracuse in the Garden at

(12:35):
like eleven o'clock and I think we'd led it to half.
And that team ended up that Syracuse team, and we
had them weird, had them down fifteenth to half the
week before and six with the men to go at
their place and lost. That team ended up going to
the National Championship Game in East Rutherford in nineteen ninety six. Anyway,
I'll never forget this. So I think the game was

(12:56):
an eleven you know, college games were two hours. I'm
not sure we had much media stuff. Right your shower,
you're done. So at probably like two fifteen, two thirty,
we had our sweats on and the plane was leaving
the next day. Like we didn't leave that that that night,
which maybe you do now, I don't know. Anyway, Like
I remember walking around Times Square and getting a slice

(13:19):
of pizza and somebody goes like, hey, not a dame
man the Big East. When you guys playing, We're like, yeah,
we're actually we actually played and we're done. You know
what I mean. It's a it's a very uh and
again for my life, right, I've called the NCAA tournament
the final four for Westwood one, then go back before
the last seven years for CBS or the last oh man,

(13:44):
I'm getting old. Twelve years of my life I've actually
called games or been on the set at the final four. Right,
So to be like done and watching everybody else do
it is look, it opens your eyes to what it's
really about and you. But it also it's weird. It's weird.

(14:04):
Good thing is I can live vicariously through Kayla Caius
like Carrius anyway, come up, I thought you'd like the alliteration, Jason,
I thought, I thought Jason especially he likes a little vicarious.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
That's that's that's pretty curious.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah by Caius through.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Really that's very clever. Dog good.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
You're gonna live vicarious.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
You should make that a T shirt. That's actually pretty.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Good, live vicariously through. Yes, yes, actually she should get
a car deal.

Now. I only know this Sam because uh my daughter
Grace is a gigantic tool fan and and uh shout
out to my shout out to Eric Chenow with former
Kansas Center who introduced us to Maynard last year. I
think it was two days ago was Eric's birthday, So

(15:14):
happy birthday Eric related anyway, that's isn't that like Carius?

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Right?

Speaker 4 (15:20):
It's weird yearious Kayla Vicarius?

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yeah, yeah, you were doing there. See Jason is so
he's like laughing and crying on the inside, right because
he doesn't actually like alliteration. He makes fun of the
alliteration thing, right, Is that about right? Jason?

Speaker 4 (15:38):
I just think that it's like the uh, it's the
busiest thing. Yes, it's a base level of creation. Like
people that aren't creative are just like, let's just do alliteration.
The crazy thing is, I'd say this is more word plays.
It works. People remember things, and people put more weight
into things that are illiterative. So it's not going away.

(16:00):
Like Dodger dogs are just a long dog, but because
they're Dodger dogs, people think they're the greatest things ever
because they're Dodger dogs.

(16:31):
I think this is fascinating what's happened with the with
the Eagles, right because here we are again you win,
and everybody wants to get paid, and so they lose
what two of their defensive linemen including uh Sweat, Who's
I mean? He was I mean he was to that
Super Bowl what Nick Bosa was. But when the Chiefs

(16:53):
beat came back and beat the Niners, I mean yeah,
and Nick Bosa I thought was gonna be the MVP
before you know that gigantic comeback and Jimmy Garoppolo kind
of choked if you will, so, uh yeah, I mean
it's gonna let's get a you know, you lose Josh Sweat,
you lose Milton Milton Williams sign. That's the one to

(17:13):
signed with New England, right, Isaiah Rodgers is gonna sign
with Minnesota. Darius Slay, of course, is expected to be cut.
James Bradbury's expected to be cut. CJ. Gardner Johnson has
traded to Houston. So they've been drafting younger guys and
with anybody who gott to replenish. But I'm gonna be
fascinated by what they're doing. And remember they gave Saquon

(17:34):
Barkley a new deal. And though he earned a new deal,
you didn't have to give him a new deal. Right.
We'll get the thoughts of John Mittlcoff on this, but
it's everything costs, and you know, yes, they have a
quarterback under kind of cost control second contract, which was
big at the time. Right now, obviously it's it's not

(17:54):
top of the market because it was a couple of
years ago, but it's still towards the top of the market.
And you know, you're running back while you know, compared
to his production, you know, twenty million dollars isn't that big.
But compared to the running back market, which has been
suppressed for so long, just how many of those how much?
How many of those dollars were avoidable in terms of

(18:16):
being spent? And you look, when you get a new deal,
you can also push some of that down the road,
and I'm sure that saves them some money. But can
be interested to see what this next Eagles incarnation looks like?

(19:00):
Let's start with the Eagles, right, A lot of departures
here since winning the Super Bowl, and most of them
on the defensive side of the football. How much is
that Gonn affect what they look like when they take
the field next year.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Well, I think the core group of the guys they
have are young, right, drafted players, the two corners Dalen Carter,
Jordan Davis. They re signed Zach vond and then I
think you continue to draft on defense because of what
they have invested on. Quarterback makes huge money, the on
line makes huge money, the receivers make big money, and

(19:35):
obviously now Sakue so I think they was to plan
on drafting on defense, and that's you know, I think
the main benefit of having Zick Fangio, I mean, think
of what he's worth. I'll be honest, I f all
this that clearly do this for a living. I did
not know much about Zach Vonn at all and they
get him one year boom and sot one's the same way.
They're on line. Coach, you know Makai Beckton, I would

(19:58):
have said after the Jets scenario, he'd be out of
the leak. And then he goes there and he reads
the career thanks are. And I haven't even seen if
he's been signed yet, but I would imagine he'll get
another contract to play guard somewhere. So I think that's
the power of coaching in the NFL that they feel
good about Fangio. And I think the other thing they
feel good about Fangio, like Spagnol, He's just not going anywhere, right,

(20:22):
I mean, this will probably be going to be a
head coach, so I think they had to pivot off
some of those guys. And uh, you know, well, I
would expect their first two or three draft picks will
be defensive players.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Okay, So I get why Gino is in Vegas, right,
You have a coaching staff, had some sex with success
with them, You have a comfort level there. Plus it's
not crazy money, right in this world where you're trying
to rebuild a roster. So the guests in Vegas, is
Gino's fine, then they're kind of drafted guy probably second day, right,

(20:56):
and then try and develop him. Is that is that
a fair guess?

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Have you have you seen Dino officially signed a new
contract with the Vegas Raiders because I haven't seen it.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
I haven't seen that. I haven't seen that.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Or no, I know an offensive coordinator before this all
went down, I remember texting him and he said, the
word on the street was, you know how these coaches
all kind of know is you know the forty you know,
forty five million dollars quarterback. And when you get that
much money, you got to look at the big picture.
He's probably gonna get one hundred plus guaranteed. Well, he'll
be thirty six in October, and you look at for

(21:27):
maybe thirty five in October. You look at Sam Donald,
who will turn twenty eight, but you know, cost them
fifty five million dollars total guaranteed, and that you know,
there's a big difference between like actual guarantee and like
what's guaranteed at signing. Sam Donald ended up not being
very expensive. The other thing is Clint Kubiak, Gary's kid

(21:48):
was two years ago, was with the forty nine ers
when Sam Donald was the backup quarterback.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Right, same same system system, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Same systems, So Kevin O'Connell this same system and way
two I think like I think you'd need to pull
ten head coaches and ten coordinators one season. Next year,
I think you could argue Gino would be eighty percent
of their picks, right, you feel good about him? But
I think in this scenario, when you factor in money,
the Seattle also got a third round pick, which they

(22:17):
clearly need offensive lineman, so I would imagine they draft
several offensive linemens relatively high. And the other thing about
fifty five million total guarantees. I mean that's essentially like
a one year contract. Daniel Jones was two and he
got eighty. So I actually totally understand from a business
perspective what went down.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Stuck out Lips show here on Fox portrayal okay, business perspective,
But who do you like better? I don't. I don't
get the Geno at forty five. You know, I get
Gino at twenty Gino at twenty five. I don't get
Gino at forty five. And you know the familiarity it
works for both of them. But who do you actually eat,
say money, who do you actually like better than their

(22:57):
new spot?

Speaker 2 (22:59):
I mean, like.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
Sam just because of the offense, the offensive coordinator, and
I just think Seattle I know they've had a little
you know, they got just got rid of DK. But
the last three years, nine wins, nine wins, ten wins.
Like that, they have been successful even with some of
their flaws. Like that, they have been a solid NFL team.
The Raiders are not. So it's like their biggest move

(23:20):
beside Gino was extending MaTx Crosby. Well, he's been on
the team the whole time, kicking everyone's butt when he's
on the field, and they still lose. So now he
gives them a jump. I like spic Sech a lot,
but during in that division, I mean, look, Keeps immediately
just signed an offensive lineman Jalen More from the Niners

(23:42):
who could play left and right, who's just an upgrade
over what they got. The Broncos take two of the
Niners like more physical players that it's just one of
the two of them are healthy. That defense is already good.
The offense I would imagine Sean Paygon. They draft tight
end and running back really high in this draft, so
the outfen is gonna be better. We know it's harder for
gonna be solid. So it's like the Raider even if

(24:02):
they do improved because you know, is a massive improvement.
I just think the division is going to be really difficult.
But I also understand, like when you go through that
last year, going into a season with basically no quarterback,
you can't do that again. So getting Geno for a
third round pick, now, we'll see. You have to see
the money. If they give a lot of money. I
got to push back on that one. That seems a

(24:23):
little crazy.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
To me, Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
you said word on the street, Warred in the street,
Aaron Rodgers to Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
I mean, it seems like you've got two options, right,
the Giants and the Steelers, And the difference is the
Steelers in its theories, could be competitive. I don't know
about you, Doug, but when I first saw the DK
metcalf was traded to Pittsburgh for a second round pick.
And you know, again, it's hard to know what these
NFL contracts, but if it says one hundred and fifty million,
I think it's fair to guess he'll get seventy eighty guaranteed.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Oh, that's the most insane thing that happened this free
agency to trade for wider seat when you've got a
lot of other issues, specifically your quarterback, Like that's the
last thing you fix. When the Eagles traded for aj Brown,
like they had the rest of the team kind of
situated like they would have been better off using some
of that money to just sign like some of the
guys like the Patriots signed. And then you have a

(25:19):
high tick because you didn't make it far in the playoffs.
You could tek a Thatcraft was a late second round pick,
but you can find these guys. Didn't we just go
through this exercise prop to the Bears, like you know,
they swum. They went with Rome, and they clearly kind
of regretted it, not because Rome's not a good player,
because you have to be solid up front. And what

(25:39):
do they do? They hire Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson's like, well,
I can't win with that offensive lineman. So they trade
literally for and signed a guy. Three two guards in
the center, where you know all three have like Pro
Bowl level ability. And I just think anytime that you
go to the perimeter when you have a lot of
other question marks to try and reform, like what what
are we doing? I can't believe the Steelers did that.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
Yeah, I think the only thing I can think of
is listen, listen, I can I do you mind if
I do what I compared to my situation? Okay, and
this is very much like a coaching GM sort of situation.
So like, you know, my team, why we lose turnovers,
rebounding period, Like every every game is some version of that,

(26:28):
especially just rebounding in toughness and age and whatever. And
so this would be akin to me going like I'm
gonna sign five big guys. I'm never gonna get out
rebounded ever again? Right, ever gonna get rebounded ever again?
And you know, you look at the Steelers, and I
think we all felt it like, well, they just have
a quarterback. They just have an offense, Like how good
could they be? Especially in that division where you know

(26:51):
two of the teams have future Hall of Fame quarterbacks.
It does feel like That's one, Aaron is probably like,
I don't need to take top dollar. It's just a
year deal. So that's how they can make it work
with all this money to DK Metcalf. But two, it
feels like a massive overreaction to how bad their offense
has been since really Antonio Brown.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
Left for sure. Well. The other thing is like down
the stretch after they had their good start. You know,
a huge part of their good start the first coup
unce they're season, their defense really good. And then because
they played on all those primetime games in December through
the playoff game, their defense was getting worked. So it's
like this notion that the Steelers are the Steel Curtain,

(27:33):
the version that was in December and January. Even if
the offense was playing well, they would have been in
major trouble in these games. They couldn't cover anybody, they
couldn't get home. Their defensive tackle situation, beside Heyward's pretty
questionable linebacker play wasn't great. I just I think we
kind of just assumed by it it was a great
on defense, are they The Ravens are way better, The

(27:54):
Chiefs are way better, The Eagles ere in a different universe. Well,
the Texans are better. So I think they're very TJ dependent,
where I think they could use a little balance and DK.
The other thing is when you look at DK, like
some injuries, some emotional stuff, I'm gonna gets a lot
of penalties, and I'm pro like obviously Seattle trades them.

(28:15):
You put a guy like that on the field, every
defensive coordinator every week terrified, So like that's an underrated
part of having that guy, even if he only has
fifty or sixty catch season, Like, he impacts every game
he plays in, every time, every single snap. But like
I think Seattle clearly and John Schnyder knows better than anyone,
was like, we don't plan on giving this guy third contract,

(28:35):
So to get a second round pick for him pretty good.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
The Packers fans are sitting there going like, hold on,
like DeVante Adams didn't want to come back, dk Metcalfs
and Pittsburgh number one. Where's the number one guy? What
do you think they do?

Speaker 3 (28:55):
That's another thing. It's like, okay, we need a number
one receiver. If I was the pack I would not
have created a second round pick because they would be,
you know, very similar right sitting right there with Pittsburgh,
I would not have done that deal. I f im them,
and they're way closer with you with they actually have
a young quarterback. You know, there's to me a physical
element to these games that like the reason they lost

(29:16):
the Eagles obviously the wide receivers got injured, but to me,
the completion of a team like I would I like
investing in a guard. Now, I think paying Aaron Banks
as much as they made them a little risky. But
like I will never fault team for overpaying offensive linemans
overpaying defensive linemens. That are just I mean, Aaron Bank's

(29:36):
been a starter on teams going to Super Bowls in
NFC championships. Like, this guy's been at winning player a
couple of years ago. Sean Payton did it with Mike McGlinchey.
It's like, that's a lot of money for Mike mclinchy.
But erones, Mike m glinchy was like a four year
starter for the forty nine ers playing all these big games.
So you pay these guys in the trenches gives you
a better chance against the better teams in the big games.
I mean, look at the look at the Rams this year.

(29:58):
The reason they went toe to toe with the Eagles,
their defensive line came to play. So I would just
invest in the defensive line of the old line. Draft
draft steel guys. There's so many of them in the
draft every single year, and so many of these guys
would become really famous people. Samuel dk Mechat Devonte Adams
second round pick, Like it's not like you don't have

(30:19):
to draft these guys who's really really high, but most
of the sweet linemen you know, tend to half to
draft in the first round.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Yeah yeah, I mean it really is great. I mean,
look T Higgins right, and he's sitting there at a
franchise tag another second round pick. Like, there's plenty, plenty,
plenty that are out there, Johnny, great stuff as always,
Thanks so much for joining us BRO. Later Stut Gottlieb

the press. What he got there?

Speaker 6 (31:39):
Ilo, Well, last night the Los Angeles Lakers lost in
Brooklyn to the Nets, and even though the Lakers were shorthanded,
of course playing without Lebron, James head coach JJ Reddick
was not amused.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
I think it was a very low level communication game
car team. Yeah, I don't think being shorthand is an
excuse for how we played basketball tonight. It's gonna be
a good team. You want to win in the NBA,
you gotta you do the hard stuff. We could even
pass to each other. We can enter our offense running
the ball screens at literally at half court. Yeah, that's

(32:16):
gonna end up in a turnover.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (32:18):
I don't know what we're doing.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Been there, brother, been there? Right. So you lose to
the Brooklyn Nets. It's your first game playing without Lebron.
Luca triple double, but an ugly triple double. Twenty two
points on twenty six shots. Twenty two points on twenty
six shots. So yeah, I mean, welcome to the slog.

(32:43):
When you don't have you don't have Lebron. Obviously, they
lost the game with Lebron. Now they lost the game
without Lebron. They come to Milwaukee on Thursday, then they
go to Denver also without them. So my guess is
they don't win any of those games and then hope
for the Suns and the Spurs, the Nuggets, the Bucks,
the Bulls. Probably back into that is when Lebron comes back.

(33:04):
Maybe I don't know who knows if he plays the
rest of the regular season because all the matters of
the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
My read on this, by the way, my read on
that entire rant was this, once Lebron says I'm going
to take a few games off, like JJ Reddick, I
think was probably starting to feel the pressure because he's
been getting a lot of flowers for his coaching during
this transition, you know, this seamless transition and the Lakers

(33:29):
playing well, like JJ has been getting a lot of credit.
So now the first game without Lebron and didn't look
that great, and I think he's taken a little defensively.
I think he sees this little opportunity as a chance
to prove that he's this great coach that people have
been calling him the last few weeks.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Okay, I mean I would I think he just he
just had it pissed to me. He just had a
like a guy who they didn't. It's like and when
you know when you coach, doesn't matter they're grown men
or college guys. Just like what am I doing here?
I'll give you an example. Our last game, we told
one of our players we're playing Oakland. Oakland places kind
of funky zone. They want you to take mid range shots.

(34:16):
So at halftime, one of our players and we don't
take mid range shots. My rule is you can take them,
but you better make them. So he takes two in
the first half, misses both three of the first half,
missus all of them. So at halftime, one of my
assistant coaches like, hey, if he catch the mid range,
get to the body or throw it and go and

(34:37):
pass and chase be a ball screener. But we don't
want to take mid range shots. Gets in the second half.
First thing you did take, take a mid rate shot,
And so I asked him, like, what is our purpose
of coaches. We're trying to help you. We tell you
one thing specifically not to do, and yet you do
it anyway. So either you don't care, or you don't listen,

(34:59):
or you think we don't. We're talking about hey or
you've heard it and you're not smart enough to make that,
which I know is not the case. So I don't
And like, you know, again, part of it is JJ.
I think what's different is when he doesn't have Lebron,
he can actually coach more and he can be a
little bit more negative towards other guys. Where when is Lebron?

(35:23):
You know, he coaches, but he kind of got to
tread lightly a little bit there.

Speaker 6 (35:28):
Next item comes from college basketball. It was announced today
kind of under the radar, that this year's national championship
game will tip off at eight fifty pm Eastern Time
on Monday.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Earlier, right the seventh.

Speaker 6 (35:41):
That's half an hour earlier than in previous years.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
What do you think about that?

Speaker 1 (35:45):
This year it's on CBS, isn't it instead of TNT.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
Just as long as it's not on True TV.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Yet No, But I mean, like, look, that's why the
numbers were the women and drew the men last year.
One was Caitlin Clark and two was on cable. You know, look,
David Burson runs CBS, right, and he comes from a
programming background, So all this is based upon math and
I think some of it is a reaction to people
complaining what about the kids? But yeah, I mean eight

(36:14):
fifties still late if you're on the East coast, but
really early if you're on the West coast. I don't
know the math to it, but there's people at every
one of these mint networks that all they're trying to
do is manipulate the math to get the most people
to watch the longest possible at the very peak hour,
which is at the end of the game. That's the magic,
and maybe this is the time to do it.

Speaker 6 (36:35):
Today is a holiday in college football. Today happens to
be National Jimbo Fisher Day. Each year on March eleventh
through twenty thirty one, Texas A and M will pay
former head coach Jimbo Fisher seven million, two hundred seventy
three thousand, nine hundred and seventy dollars and sixteen cents

(36:58):
as part of the contract by from when he was
fired in twenty twenty three. So Happy Jimbo Fisher Day
to all who.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Celebrate Jimbo can celebrate right at least.

Speaker 6 (37:10):
One person celebrating.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
What Who is it that the champion of the business
of sports? Who is that what's his name that joined
us used to be with the Packers and the Eagles.

Speaker 6 (37:22):
He's sports s guru Andrew Brandts.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Andrew brand Right, yeah, there's that's a Hall of Famer
business of sports right there. Betther was getting an interaction
right arout and getting it.

Speaker 7 (37:31):
They're getting an argument in a fight.

Speaker 6 (37:35):
Joe Jimbo, all right, final itam something that actually came
up during the course of the show from golf Tiger
Woods announcing, Yeah, he underwent successful surgery this morning after
he tore his left achilles. He has not played in
a tour events since last July.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
I mean, what part of Tiger's body has not been
operated on? Just a question. I don't I don't know
what the answers don't know what the answer is. It's
crazy and that's suppress.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
That get out there and pressed.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
That was the press Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, bunch of championship games tonight. This
will be fun. Of course, you got some some earlier rounds.
Who I just I don't know. I don't know about you, guys.
I just I love this stuff. I love this stuff.
And then the hard part is, you know, for us

(38:34):
like Youngstown plays Robert Morris. Uh we you know, we
weren't at that competitive with Robert Morris. They were really good,
but Youngstown. We led both those games, like in the
leaning seconds of the game, and now there one went away. Tonight,
I'm going to an NCAA tournament. Enjoyed the hoops. We're
back tomorrow down to the podcast Dog Gotlib Show here
on Fox Sports Radio.
