All right, good hour for you. Up coming, my boy
Matt Holiday will join us. We'll ask him about the
Lions of the Lions, the Tigers and their win today,
first game, first win of the wild Card day. Great
day in baseball. Four games going on today throughout a
battery of networks. ABC getting a baseball game today. That's
(01:06):
an interesting one. All right, all that upcoming, Plus, let's
talk to Major League Baseball playoffs. We got NFL to
talk about. The best way to talk about it is
something that I think Dan Byer came up with Jase
Do put into play. We've been doing it this entire
season that consists of four weeks. It's a way of
looking back at the weekend but trying to get to
(01:28):
stories that everyone missed yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Little Tuesday kid, this is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon.
Mondays can be overwhelming. Tuesdays are getting to whatever we
didn't get.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
To on Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
This is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Okay, so what we got to? I mean, I think
we spend a little time on the Giants and their defense,
and the Chargers and their injuries. A little time on Pittsburgh, Buffalo, good,
New Orleans bad. No one really talked about that one.
Tennessee feels like a dumpster fire. I'm just thinking. I'm
thinking that the things that we got to.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Yeah, I know, but I'd rather than not have Sam
up the what what the articles are?
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Okay, I come on, I was trying to say, this
is what everybody talked about, people talk about all right,
So you guys are obviously chomping at the bit this one.
I'm excited. Dan, Let's start with you. What what's the
biggest story we missed on yesterday that we need to
cover today?
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Well, there is a play that happened on Sunday that
I don't think people are talking about nearly as much
as they should.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
And it sounded like this on Fox you know what
to do wrong?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
One ready?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Oh CHICKI he walks in touchdown Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Maybe I was wanting to play calls a little bit longer.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
It's like he was getting a few extra works out
of his mouth.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
Lining up in the tush push formation, the Philadelphia Eagles
run a play to Saquon Barkley out of that formation,
not just Jalen Hurts diving forward for a yard. They
stored on a six yard touchdown run. And I think it,
in my mind, validated the reason on why you keep
the tush push here.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Now.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
Sean Payton was on Orange and Blue today and the
Broncos head coach had this to say about why he
was in favor of the tush push.
Speaker 7 (03:26):
I was one that stood up in favor of. The
reason I stood up in favor of is pretty simple.
If the powers to be don't want it for esthetic
reasons or competitive reason, you know, or it's hard to officiate,
et cetera. But I've been involved in those meetings for
a long time, and when all of a sudden, health
(03:48):
and safety was pulled into that, which might be the
safest play in football, my bullet nose kind of went up.
Look at the quarterback sneak. You know, as long as
the line of scrimmage is clean, it's a well run
quarterback speak.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
So a lot of push for the tush push to
stay around, at least in my mind.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
This past weekend.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Good for Sean Payton. That was amazing that the end there,
whereas BS meter went off when people started.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Doing the injury thing, yes, the player.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Safety thing, like he's basically calling BS on all of this,
like kind of woke, Hey, we got to protect the
player stuff when there was zero data to support that
the play was dangerous. Good for Sean Payton, by the way,
head coach of a different team, that's let me let me,
let me ask you guys, this okay, a play off
(04:37):
of the tush push, doesn't it seem unfair at this juncture?
Like the defense has probably schemed all week for a
way to marginalize this unstoppable play, and then you call
a play action off of that that just seems like
cruel and unusual.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
It does, It does, But I'm with Dan. I love
it when I saw it. Now the first time they
ran it, they did the toush push, they didn't call
the guard jumped. They didn't call it again, which infuriates everybody,
But yes, I would agree with you.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
There's also just the there's going to be a time,
I think where this is stopped by the Eagles. But
even if you're one of the thirty one other teams,
doesn't this show you that there is a different way
out of that formation to run the play? Like we
feel like the Eagles have this advantage, and maybe they do,
but why didn't any of the other teams think of
(05:29):
doing this that couldn't actually get the yard, but tried
to think of a different way to get their player
around it would actually make it I think now more
likely for them if they were to show that on film.
And now teams are having to worry about, say it's Buffalo,
worry about James Cook running around the end and running
around the edge and scoring a touchdown or getting the
first down. I think it shows the different things that
(05:51):
you can do with the play now.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
It's not just a one trick pony. If you will,
it's amazing. It's amazing.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
I've been the team Toush Push for a long time.
I was glad that it stayed in and I love
the fact that Sean Payton is calling bs on guys
like a Doug's buddy Mark Murphy. It was disingenuous to
go to this player safety thing from the get go.
It's just I can't stop this play. We need to
get it out of the league now. If there wasn't
(06:20):
an undefended or a defensive play that people couldn't stop.
I think that's why the Toush Pushes has gone through
it because this is such a pro offense league, and
the Toush Pushes is an offensive play.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
I think the next play.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
That's going to get banned, just just my theory, is
the punching fumbles, the intentional pounding of the ball out
of the hand, because that's a defensive play. It limits offense,
and the NFL traditionally has been against plays that take
away from the offense.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Yeah, I don't know if I see it though, I
just don't. I mean, I again, punching the football out
creates a turnover, it creates kind of mayhem. I think
they like it, don't. I know? You think you put
that in the group chat this weekend. I'n't agree with it.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
I think that that's that's an interesting thought. I like
the thought process on it, especially when the NFL was
I think at one point promoting the because it's the
peanut punch from Charles Tillman.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Sure.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
I think the Seahawks legion of Boom also did it
pretty well. It did it in Super Bowl forty eight,
but their defensive backs were taught to do the same thing.
Now everybody else is doing it. It does when you
do that, you don't tackle as well. So like there's
this if you're just trying to punch the football out,
the guy can maybe run five or ten more yards.
So it's kind of anti of what you want to
(07:45):
do on defense. But I think that's how we kind
of view defense nowadays, is get the turnover and that
they get five or ten yards more they do, sure,
but that would be interesting if the NFL did a
one to eighty because I swear I thought I saw
a promo or a commercial promoting the peanut punch at
one time.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
I think that there's like this the whenever I see
a a guy just do a complete roundhouse punch and
miss and hit the player's forearm or bicep, It's like,
I think that's that that isn't covered enough. Like if
you want to talk about player safety and not intentionally
hurting players, what about all of them missed fumble punches.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
You miss in something really bad might happen. You might
get hit in somewhere that's pretty sensitive, or just get
just get you know, hit smacked there. And but I
talked with Jason about this, I don't the enforcement of
that because yeah, like you know, it's kind of like
a jab versus a hook in boxing. You know, the
jab is the peanut punch. And then I guess guys
(08:45):
could still swing their arm around tackling and try to
hit the ball out the same time, they're gonna have
to really write some pretty uh you know fine put
the fine what do you call it, the fine print
into that rule. If that made any sense.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Not really it did. I guess, Okay, what about you there, Sam?
Something we missed.
Speaker 6 (09:08):
I don't know if we missed this so much. I
just you know, we talked about.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
This in first of all, bad way to start. Uh,
it's gotta be something we missed.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
Allow me to uh mean, to narrate my wax poetic Tuesday.
It's still morning in Hawaii, but afternoon in the continental
United States.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Quarterback here because this is the truth.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
It's ten ten in the morning in Hawaii. Still morning, Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Morning, Sam, Sam, It's like thirty seconds of wasted time.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
Dude, sounds like a Doug Gotlog show to me.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Uh, okay, we're moving on a jau something Jay suh.
Something that that you that we missed.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
We got a tweet about this segment just ten minutes
ago saying, oh, it's that segment where Doug overly compliments
Bryce Young every single week.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I'm not compilating Bryce Young this week. It was two
weeks in a row, and I'd moved on.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Okay, because AFO Announcing did a headline the Doug's glowing
coverage of Bryce Young is getting Bryce old. So Brian
Dayball Malik Neighbors and Jackson Dart all are subjects of
my Tuesday Morning Quarterback and it's pretty simple. Last week,
(10:20):
Jackson Dark got the start, and it was our theory
that this is basically the hail Mary to keep Brian
Daball's job. Sure, if the rookie does well, he probably
gets an extension. If he doesn't, we probably say goodbye.
I will say that Malik neighbors injury helps Brian Daball.
How you say, because the expectations now are lowered. Even
(10:41):
more so if Jackson Dart shows progress and anything that
goes wrong, you could be like, well, he didn't have
his best offensive player on the field, So Melik Neighbors
getting injured, Jackson Dart having a great game against the Chargers,
I would say two great cases for keeping Brian daballround.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
I'm gonna I'm just quick piggyback off of that. Yesterday
the Giants announced that John Mara, the co owners, battling cancer.
I hope everything is okay, says he's going to work
through treatment. But if it's more serious, then maybe we
realize I think that would be another reason to maybe
keep the current regime, depending on because we've seen how
(11:26):
how much Mara is involved with the operation. I mean
his comment on sakuon Barkley we still talk about today
on how it would be difficult for him to sleep
at night if he was in an Eagle's uniform like
he is involved, and if there's any step back from that,
I almost think that it would probably make the Giants
just want to keep what they've got in place because
(11:48):
of his health situation.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
They didn't come back and win, but they did come
back and make it close, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost
to the Philadelphia Eagles for their first loss of the year.
But I think I've determined Dan Bayer who Baker Mayfield is.
All right, he's Russell Wilson two point zero from this
(12:13):
standpoint right, a little bit smaller right runs around back there.
It does feel like every Buccaneer game comes down to
Baker Mayfield with the ball driving down the field, a
chance to win it, and most times you feel like
he's gonna pull it off. And you and I have
discussed this, like I can't recall that. I know you
have recollection of one individual game, like I remember when
(12:36):
he did this against this team that again, But in
terms of I'm kind of vague in my analysis. That's
how I remember just about every Seahawk game that Russell
Wilson was ever a part of. He wouldn't do much
most of the game, and then at the end of
the game he'd be running around back there, and more
often than not he'd make a play and they'd win
the game. And I view Baker as much the same.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
It's kind of like Bizarro Seinfeld right when it was
the opposite, but everybody was the same person, Like there
was an opposite Cramer and oppersite George opposite Elaine. But
I think in that way where Russell was a star
and a star early and then faded away, Baker had.
I mean, Baker was a star early, but it just
(13:16):
didn't last long, Like after they made that playoff push,
then all of a sudden, the bloom on the Rose
started to fade for Cleveland. But yeah, I could, I
could see it. I don't hate it at all, And
there is there is a positive aspect of Baker where
I think everybody loves him, and I don't know.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
If that's the case with Russell Wilson.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Good teammates wise, anyone non Sam want to add anything.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Else, I think we gotta give Sam one more chance.
I'm about second chances on this show.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
I don't think Doug like that comment about the Doug
Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
I think that's what.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
Well, you could you could just say that now, well
it's already out there. I was just saying that, you know,
I could waite thirty seconds talking. That's me. I'm on
your show. There's joking, just a joke, just a just
a joke. I was just gonna say, well, this isn't
even from this is not even from Sunday, so I
can't even talk about it. I was gonna say that
Joe Burrow being gone all the time it hurt.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
How's it?
Speaker 6 (14:12):
His legacy is is a mixture of a super Bowl appearance,
number one overall pick national champion, and then we don't
see him a lot of the time, and he's that
that that offense, that passing game is a Ferrari with
no gas in it or a Ferrari with no tires,
and it's just unfortunate to see because of all the
weapons they have.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Yeah, but all the weapons they have are a reason
why he also, yeah, there's no reason for him to
pay Jamar Chasen t Higgins.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
There's just.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
The they put everything in the in the passing game,
and you know, I don't know, it's frustrating because.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
See they should let walk. That's that's the big one, Doug.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
Like we said in the off season before the season started,
you know, the Rams will go as far as Matt
Stafford can carry him on his sore back, you know.
And then and they just had an amazing comeback win
against the Colts and he had a three hundred seventy
by passing yards.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
And so I'm gonna ask you a question that I
know the answer to because I looked it up. So
don't feel bad if you don't know the answer to.
Joe Burrow has been in the league for This is
his sixth year in his last five years counting this year, right,
So he's missed two games this year. He's obviously out
(15:25):
for probably the rest of the season. So the previous
four years, how many games did he miss?
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Well, we have the gosh, the injury is rookie season, yep.
Then the second year, how many games did he miss
I'm gonna say.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Thirty, Okay, in his last four years, we'll take out
rookie because the rookie season he missed.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
Six last last four years. I'll say twelve twelve.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Okay, what will you say, Sam.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
I'll just go thirteen. Okay, price is right, by the.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Way, logic made zero said, but Jase do, I don't
know why we're not doing the rookie season.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
But I'm gonna say we.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Could do the rookie season if you want. It's fine.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
So twenty twenty games in quoting the rookieses.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Okay, so he missed six the rookie year. When did
we go to seventeen games?
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Dan? Three?
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Was it three years ago? I think this is this
the third year?
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Okay. So he didn't miss a game for two straight
years after his rookie year, and he didn't miss a
game last year either, start every game. It's a little
bit of a misconception that Joe Burrow's always hurt. He
is always like banged up.
Speaker 6 (16:41):
Yes, during the game last night, they showed the graphic
and they showed you know, he had injuries in the offseason.
Two he had appendicitis or an appendecicy. I guess that
maybe influenced me a little bit, But I feel like
I have not really seen like Burrow that was Burrow
last year. He was so good. You know, the defense
was the one that was letting him down. They lost
a lot of those games. So I think there's truth.
I think there's truth on both sides.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
And that is Tuesday Morning Quarterback.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
This is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon on Fox
Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Here's we're
gonna do. Okay, We're gonna get an update on everything
going on in sports, including in baseball. And then Matt
Holliday is going to join a seven time All Star,
four time Silver Slugger. He's got a son who was
leadoff hitter for the Orioles all year. Guy is a
Baseball Savants Doug Gottlieb Show here on Foxsports Radio. So
(17:49):
we have what one, uh one of the books, right.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
Yeah, and we just have a Cubs lead. Carson Kelly's
just hit a solo home run for the Cubs. It's
now two to one over the Padres in the fifth inning.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Okay, so here's the question. Jason Stewart. Do you want
to see the Padres losing this round or do you
want them to get all the way to face the
Dodgers and then the Dodgers eliminate the Padres.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
I absolutely want the I'm rooting for the Padres to
get through every round until they play the Dodgers. But
that's assuming the Dodgers can get by the Reds and
I'm not confident with that. Can I do one shout
out to Angel Martinez? He's the Guardians. Outfielder Angel Martinez,
in one moment today showed me what I love about baseball. Okay,
(18:35):
there's two outs. He's on second base. They're facing the
best picture in baseball. Two outs second base, they're down
or run. They're facing the best picture in baseball. A
chopper goes over the mound over Scooball's glove. Angel Martinez
never breaks stride. In other words, as soon as the
(18:57):
ball is hit, he's running like we were taught since
we were in little league. He never breaks stride. He
rounds third. Scoo Ball picks the ball up behind the mound,
and Angel Martinez is trying to score. It's like Wesley
Snipes in American League. The first basement is so surprised
(19:17):
that he was trying to score that school Ball kind
of hesitated, like, holy crap, he's already trying to score.
School Ball throws the ball home. That's a bang bang
play that's initially called out. The replay ends up calling
him safe, but Angel Martinez goes back to the fundamentals,
(19:38):
doesn't break stride, is sent home in a playoff game,
and scores like one of the most exciting plays you'll
see on a baseball field. I just don't know if
most people care to have the nuanced appreciation for that
play that I do.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
I do. I mean, it's just it's the awareness, the
awareness aptitudes, all the understanding of of who I am,
can I make it? What can I do to change
this game. It's like all the things that we obviously
would call basketball IQ and basketball baseball IQ whatever just
sports kind of a weirdness. I think it's fantastic. It's
a great point to be made, and not having watched,
(20:16):
having not watched the game, that brings me a way
greater understanding of who won and why. So yeah, it's appreciated.
I mean, Dave Roberts is the most famous stolen base
in the history of the sport, right, and he was
a They picked him up late and he stole a
base and they scored from second, and all of a
(20:38):
sudden the comeback was on. So yeah, I think it's
I think it's super interesting, super interesting. Well, it's Doug
Gotlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. So the Cubs are
up two one. We mentioned the behind an incredible, incredible
(20:58):
outing by Terror Scuoball. The Detroit Tigers take a one
game to none lead. Let me bring in Matt Holiday,
who if he hasn't faced him, his sons have. He
joins us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Are you you set up shopping the couch?
You're watching all the games days? That is? That? Is
that the plan? I am?
Speaker 8 (21:20):
Actually we have it on the jumbo tron at Oklahoma State.
I'm out here watching some practice and we got the
Cubs and Padres on the jumbo tron. So I've watched
pretty much the whole Cleveland Detroit game and now I'm
locked into the to the Cubs and Padres and watching
college baseball players, and so I've got a full day
(21:40):
of baseball.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Yeah, you're just baseballing out right now school ball? What
what was how? How what he struck out twelve twelve?
What's what's your acting today's performance on the road.
Speaker 8 (21:52):
I mean, in talking to Jackson, I think he's the
toughest that bat he's had in pro baseball. I mean
the weapons, uh, that he has combined with the uh
you know that you can tell that the mental fortitude
and and and bulldog uh you know, personality, I mean
(22:13):
the stuff and the I mean it just speaks for
itself obviously the numbers and but yeah, I'm not surprised
He's He's very difficult to square up. He's got a
hundred mile in our fastball, and he's got to change
up that. He throws to both lefties and righties. And
then oh yeah, by the way, if I need a
nasty slider, I've got that too. So he has tons
(22:35):
of weapons. The Indians offense to me is is probably
you know, middle to you know, if you don't let
Ramirez be you. Uh, I'm pretty confident, you know, I'm
still pretty good about you know, the bitching against their lineup.
So I'm not surprised that he was able to shut
that lineup down.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Okay, watching Cubs and Patres cobs up to one bottom,
five two outs. Uh. Coming into the season, what coming
the season, come into the series, what'd you think of
the matchup?
Speaker 8 (23:06):
Well, I've been heavily on the on the Padres. Uh.
You know, I love their bullpen.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (23:13):
And I thought I thought they were similar to the
Dodgers and last year and how the Dodgers won the
World Series that if their starters could go four or
five innings, they turn it over to to four or
five guys that could be closers on most teams. The
fact that it's a really feel you know, I think
that changes things a little bit because that is a
it is a pretty distinct home field advantage. It's a
(23:35):
you know, it looks like it's a great environment to play.
These three game series is are very hard to predict.
I mean, I think talent wise, I think the Padres
are a more talented team, but these game ones are
so important that like right now the Cubs have a
two to one, two to one lead, it's only the
fifth inning, but you know, it's it's it's just like
(23:55):
you know, you just saw with the Indians and the
and the and the and the Tigers. Now now the
Tigers are up one nothing, they feel great about themselves
going to tomorrow, and now all of a sudden, the
pressure is all switched to the Indians. Just like if
you know, if if the Cubs can hold off the
Padres in this game, you know, now the Padres are
staring the end of their season right in the face,
(24:15):
and anything can happen in one game. So that's what's
so intriguing. I think about these three games series is
is that really it's it's you know, it's it's better
than a one game, but it's still not necessarily the
best roster that's going to win, uh these serieses. But
I like the Padres team a lot. I like their
I like their bullpen most But we'll see if that
(24:38):
ends up.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Mattering Matt Holiday our guest seven time All Star, four
time Silver sluger Doug gotlib show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Dodgers Reds. You know, jayse dou he thought they were
chokers until they won the World Series. He's really nervous
about this group. It's playing well going into the playoffs,
but especially the back end of that bullpen. What are
your thoughts in the matchup with Reds?
Speaker 8 (25:01):
Yeah, I mean I think it's interesting when when you
when you put Hunter Green on the mound again in
these short serieses. I mean, the Dodgers obviously are the
better team and have more talent, but this first game,
I mean Hunter Green, I think he threw the most
pitches over one hundred miles an hour this year by
like a hundred or something. You know, just a ton
of great arm, tremendous uh stuffs. So you know, again,
(25:27):
the first game is a bit of a toss up.
You know, when you start talking about you know, some
anything can happen. But I like the Dodgers. I mean
I think that they're there their talent of having you know,
three they got three m vps. And then you know
they have obviously have have a lot of a lot
of uh great players and and uh, you know, the
(25:49):
Snell has been good. I mean obviously he's one of
si young in both leagues. Can get a little wild,
uh last three outings though, I think he's He's pitched unbelievable.
So I think the Dodgers sit comfortably in that series.
But I imaged in tonight's game, I think Snell versus
Green is as a fun matchup to watch hitters try
(26:10):
to try to navigate those two uh two pitchers. But
it's like again, a short series. I would if I
had to bet my house, I'd take the Dodgers. But
I think tonight will at least be a fun game.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Yankees Red Sox. Of course, when you play for the Yankees,
you guys lost to the Astros in the playoffs. Now
now it's the Red Sox. What's it like in that
clubhouse or like, is it is it really different when
it's playoffs?
Speaker 8 (26:37):
Yeah, I mean I think the playoffs are always you
know that the excitement and the the the intensity, the
pressure of the the uh just the the buzz in
the city, the buzz and the ballpark. And now every
every out, every pitch, you know, the fans are on
their feet, every pitch is so magnified. It is it's
(27:01):
totally different. I mean it really is. And then you
know you combine that with the Red Sox and the
Yankees rivalry. I mean I would feel I would feel
better about the Red Sox chances if they were healthy,
completely healthy, if Romin Anthony was there, and you know,
maybe I don't know who else, but I really would
feel better about their chances. But the Yankees have been
(27:22):
playing so well lately at home. But again, like we
talked about, Garrett, Crochet can go out there and shut
anybody down. And if he goes out there tonight and
shuts out the Yankees, and all of a sudden, the
Red Sox have a ton of momentum going in tomorrow
and you're in a one game situation where anything can happen,
and next thing you know, you just might you know,
(27:43):
Red Sox might be able to sneak out of there,
but Crochet is is is very, very difficult to deal with,
and so it'll be interesting to see how he pitches.
You know, I think he's had success against Judge two
for fourteen, but both of those two were home runs.
So how do you navigate whether you're going to pitch
to him or not pitch to him? You go after
(28:04):
him or do you you know, you kind of pitch
around him. Most of their other you know, Stanton's hot
right now, but I would probably you know, most of
their other their best hitters are left handed. So it'll
be interesting to see what he does with Judge and
and Stanton and Uh in the middle of the order.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Last thing, why not use abs in the playoffs? Why wait?
Till next year.
Speaker 8 (28:27):
Gosh, I don't know. I don't know. It's I mean,
it's just I've been waiting for it. I still think
two challenges is not enough, and be announced for next
year would be two challenges per team. I think three
is the minimum that it should be. And I'm okay
with giving each player one, uh to you know, use
(28:48):
when he wants that way, if he's wrong, it only
finishes him and not the whole team. But you know,
we'll see. I'm with you. I mean, you use it
in the All Star Game. You announced it for next year.
These are the biggest games of the season. Why not
why not put it in? We have the technology. Everybody
seems in favor of it, so much so that we
(29:08):
voted in for next year. I don't, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Okay, Well, thanks for cleaning up for me. I appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (29:14):
Yeah, yeah, sorry at answer.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
For sometimes sometimes I don't know? Is is the answer.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
So yeah, Doug, something interesting happened earlier today in Minnesota
and the FISA. Collier, star player for the Minnesota Links,
sat down and read a statements prior to meeting with
the media, and the statement was then all out to
attack on the WNBA's front office, specifically Commissioner Kathy Engelbert.
(30:59):
Now call your dressed a variety of issues with poor
officiating in the league.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Let me help you here. So Callier got hurt when
she was dribbling the ball at the end of the game.
It got stolen and her leg made contact with the
woman who stole the ball from him. If you watch
the replay, the steel was clean. Like her coach went
crazy after the game, got suspended after the game. If
you watch the video, the steal was clean. It doesn't
(31:26):
matter with these women. They don't care about reality because
they live in this alternate universe where I promise you
they think everybody's out to get them. It's like again,
and all she's doing is echoing the sentiment of her
head coach, who wants a change atop the leadership with officiating.
Like okay, so all you want again, let's just remember
(31:51):
all you want is people that say yes. All you
want is people that say yes. And by the way,
the WNBA part of the initial statement was that the
reason for the CBA being as it is is for sustainability,
and she doesn't believe that. Again, it doesn't matter what
reality is financially to anybody. They don't care about Nafisia,
(32:13):
CALLI or anything. They don't care about reality. Pay us
everything that we believe we deserve, regardless of whether or
not it bankrupts your business. We get every call we want,
regardless of whether or not it was fouled. Everybody's out
to get us. It was embarrassing. Now what's gonna happen
is on social media and in regular media. Everyone is
(32:34):
scared to criticize a female athlete. Female athletes do not
get criticized. They want to be treated fairly, but in
in a completely unfair sense. I'm telling you, I saw
the play. It looked bad when they banged legs and
when her foot got caught up and now she's in
a walking boot. But she got the ball stolen from
her and then they collided. It happens. It's basketball, it's
(32:56):
contact sport. So I have zero sympathy. Do I think
the WNBA officiatings. Beat. Yeah. Yeah, well I'm in Indye
for the Horizon League meetings. Our officiating stinks too. But
you know what you don't do. You don't go like
I want leadership blah blah blah blah blah. Like dude,
the film actually says it was a good call.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
I do want to give him the FISA Collier an
opportunity because that was just part of her statement today,
but she also said something very interesting when it comes
to some of the league's young stars, specifically Caitlyn Clark,
Angel Reese, and Paige Becker's Here's what Klier had to
say in her statement.
Speaker 9 (33:32):
At unarrival this past February. I sat a car across
from Kathy and asked how she planned to address the
officiating issues in our league. Her response was, well, only
the losers complain about the refs. I also asked how
she planned to fix the fact that players like Caitlin,
Angel and Page, who are clearly driving massive revenue for
the league, are making so little for their first four years.
(33:52):
Her response was, Caitlyn should be grateful she makes sixty
million off the court, because without the platform that the
WNBA gives her, she wouldn't make anything. And in that
same conversation, she told me players should be on their
knees thanking they're lucky stars for the media right steal
that I got them. That's mentality driving our league from
the top. We go to battle every day to protect
(34:12):
a shield that doesn't value us. The league believes it
succeeds despite its players, not because of them.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Well, I would say in some ways they do succeed
despite the players. If she said that about Kaylen Clark,
that's laughable.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
Do you think you think she said that? Do you
really think a commissioner of a league would say all
those things the way Collier just presented it, That sounds
like a slant and a lie.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
It does.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
It doesn't make much sense.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
The problem I think with Collier is is we feel
that there is an ulterior motive because of the unrivaled
league that she helped start.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
The unrival league is unwatchable, unwatchable three on three women's
basket during the NBA and NFL season. Tell me how
I can find more about this product?
Speaker 3 (35:06):
I love it. Well.
Speaker 5 (35:07):
I would also say this, because we talk about this
a lot on this show, that perception is reality, and
I do think that it is savvy of Collier to
put Caitlin Clark, angel Recent Page Beckers in this group
where we feel that their fan bases are completely on
opposite sides of each other, and now to get them
to be one group maybe against the WNBA or at
(35:30):
least the leadership in the front office. I think it's
a very savvy move because the perception then would likely
be the reality, whether it is what you say, Doug
or what Jason says. If the Caitland Clark fans, if
the Angel Rees fans, and the Page Beckers fans, and
there are a lot of them feel this way about
the front office because that's what they perceive is happening,
(35:51):
then that's going to be the reality of the WNBA.
So I think it's a savvy move by Collier to
bring those players in and use the messaging that you
in that situation, whether it's true or not, whether it's
made up or or taken out of context, how.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Well it is. Let's let's just let's just say this, Okay, Danbyer,
do you think what is the percentage chances that the
commissioner of the w NBA uttered those words?
Speaker 3 (36:18):
I think it's low verbatim. Yeah, I don't know ten percent.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Okay, Jay stu percentage.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
I'll go like five percent. But I'm gonna add this this.
She may have said something along those lines, but the
way they were presented is just so unfair. And if
I'm looking sure of the WNBA, I'm thinking my days
are counted because the best player in our league just
completely mischaracterized my words to her. I've got no allies.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Yeah, yeah, no, she she crushed her, crushed her. I'm
gonna go less than two percent. I simply do not
believe it, you know.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
And by the way, to your point, Doug, it shouldn't
be called unrivaled, it should be called unfollowed.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
I mean it's they do the blue light things so
you can't see how few people in the seats.
Speaker 5 (37:16):
It's so bad, so bad, no practice today for Niners
quarterback Brock Purty, Doug. The Angels will not bring back
either of their managers, Ron Washington and interim skipper Ray
Montgomery will not return to the Angels in twenty twenty six,
according to the Athletic.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
AH another year another manager for the Angels.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Uugh, that's the press bag, get out there in press.
That was the press.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
I do feel like there should be like a Major
League five with the Angels. Hey, Charlie, what do you
think about managers the big club?
Speaker 3 (37:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
I got a guy in the other line about some
white walls. Have to get back to you still, Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio,
