Welcome, Welcome, Welcome in hope you're having a great day.
A reminder of podcast is at the top of next hour.
I hope you're doing great.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Do do do Do Do do do do do do.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
At Uh about a uh app.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
We're gonna have a good discussion about Jonathan Gannon apologizing
to Amari Amari.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Uh Demarcado?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
It does?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Amaro Demarcado does sound like a baseball player's name, doesn't it.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Here's what I mean?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Ready, Amrio DeMar Marcado steps in. He was two for
two yesterday. De Marcado or Demarcato could be a picture.
De Marcato wheels deals outside ball one.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
De Marcado grew up in the Dominican Republic, but he
went to prep school in Florida. Demrcado wines and delivers
another ball high to Demarcado. Sounds like, anyway, that was
my that's my uh my oral fixation on Major League
Baseball's play by play voices Dave Amari de Marcado. Marty
(01:40):
Demarcado is hitting second for the White Sox.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Speaking of you just reminded me of a pet peeve
of mine. So I think it's your boy, your guy, right,
Brian Anderson is your guy. He's a buddy, Yes, so
I do. It's not necessarily with him, but he is
the new generation of national broadcast Okay, who do these
baseball games? And I've noticed a trend in recent years
(02:05):
and I've never I've never witnessed this before, so I
don't know why, maybe because it sounds cool, But whenever
a batter swings at a first pitch and flies out
or whatever, they're in ambush mode. You know, like last night,
Freddie Freeman's in ambush mode, swung at the first pitch.
And I'm thinking back in the day, it was just like,
(02:26):
if the best pitch you're gonna get in the bets
the first pitch, just swing at it.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
If you like.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
There are some guys I agree with you there are
some guys. Isn't that the weirdest thing about Major League Baseball.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
There's some guys they just stand out.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
There and they're you know, there and they watch they
watched the first pitch come right down the pipe, and
they're just like, you know, they're good. They're chewing their gum,
they're spitting their seeds, they're doing whatever. That is one
of the weird weird things about the sport. You know,
there's not another sport. It's not a sport where a
guy guy comes in and a great player, they get
him a wide open three and.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
He's like, nope, gonna pass it.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
But in baseball, you'll be standing up there in the
first pitch, fastball right down, and they're like, nope, alright.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
But I think ambush mode is like it just sounds cool,
it sounds dangerous.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
It's a recent change in how we express the guy
who's gonna swing, you know, swing away on the first pitch.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
But it also is like a thing where broadcasters like
things that make you sound cool, like no doubt, off
the edge wasn't a thing like twenty years ago, but
people love saying off the edge or in space, God, space,
possible to tackle in space.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
In getting ball in space. Well, that's also what it is.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Is they're repeating coach speak or players speak, and they
think it hips them up right, because they're up there
where we're up there wearing dockers and a button down.
We're trying to feel cool. We're like, yeah, one's an ambush,
but I'm Aria de Marcato is in ambush mode.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
It is Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
There's lots of things we may have missed yesterday, right,
we don't miss the headline stuff. Only so much you
can do and so long you can do it. But
we make sure we circle back on a Tuesday as
we play Tuesday Morning Quarterback.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
Well Tuesday to tam this is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in
the afternoon. Mondays can be overwhelming. Tuesdays are getting to
whatever we didn't.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Get to on Monday.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
This is Tuesday Morning Quarterback in the afternoon.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Kind of every day is my Tuesday morning Quarterback. I
mean that because I turned the microphone off, I get
in my car or whatever, and I'm like, dad, bless it,
why did I get to that? Damn Jay Stussin.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
I'll take it from here. I will say this. I
think there's been a change in the bed music. This
is a tad bit more distracting than I want in
my music beds, but that's at it. We can have
that conversation off there.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
I don't even know why you're having this. You can't hear.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Yeah, yeah, I think that's that's the problem with me.
Something we didn't get to yesterday that I will turned
down I wanted to get to today is Justin Herbert.
He's the quarterback of the team that I like the
most in the NFL, and I think Justin Herbert tends
to be because his head coach, Jim Harbab basically thinks
(05:20):
he walks on water. And I'm not exaggerating. I think
he has actually said that his quarterback walks on water.
He said that one. He's tend to hyperbole when he
talks about how good Justin Herbert is. So I think
we kind of we are conditioned as fans to forgive
his weaknesses. But there's been something that has happened throughout
his career that I've never understood. I think he's one
(05:41):
of the tallest quarterbacks in the NFL. If I'm mistaken,
he's like six foot six or something, and the guy
still gets way too many passes at the line tipped.
He throws into fingers and arms far too often for
a tall quarterback. Maybe the most consequential one on Sunday
was the interception at the goal line. And then he's
(06:02):
got this other thing that he does. Okay, I'm confirmed
tallest fourth and three fourth and three charges go for it,
and they decide to pass the ball. Five yards down
the field is Tucker Fisk. There's a reason why you
don't know who Tucker Fisk is. He's the third tight
end on the on the dupth chart. If he could
(06:24):
catch a ball, he would probably be the first on
the depth chart.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
But by the way, Tucker Fisk is a name that
you need to take your time before you're pronounced. Yes,
like I would just can encourage people to.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
During our next break, say the name Tucker Fisk five
times quickly have fun.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Okay, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (06:46):
Jason Grihat.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
So he's five yards down the field and justin Herbert
as opposed to just a nice touch pass to get
the first down, he hurls this ball. He hucks it.
He like fires it, chuck five yards into the face
mask of Tucker Fisk yourself. Okay, well, the face mask
that means he could probably catch it, but it was
(07:09):
it was thrown at one hundred miles an hour. Say
timed him from five yards away to get to get
a three down touchdown. These are things that as you're
watching justin Herbert week to week, you just get frustrated
with these two qualities. And I felt like Tuesday Morning
Quarterback was the way for me to bring it to
the surface.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
You guys remember that song things that Make You Go,
Things that make you.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Go, Yes, if you don't rich actually do. A Monday
segment called that about the NFL Things.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
To make Yeah, say, I like that. That C and
C Music Factory, I.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Think so that's like the there's only two songs C
and C Music Factory.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
That factory did not produce much. It produced two different songs.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Don't quote me on that, but so there was something
that that I think, I think we are really missing
that happened in last night's game with the Chiefs and Jaguars.
So one of the lasting images from the Super Bowl
was Travis Kelcey not trying right where we thought that
(08:15):
he wasn't giving forth the effort. He even said that
he didn't want to go out like that. He was
going to come back for revenge. And so what we've
talked about, and you guys talked about it as well,
is Chris Jones' effort on the last play thinking that
maybe Trevor Lawrence was down. But it wasn't a great
look for Jones because the play kept on going and
(08:36):
Trevor Lawrence gets into the end zone. But when we
talk about the Chiefs and we say, hey, the Chiefs
are going to be all right, Chiefs are going to
be fine, what stood out to me last night was
what happened when the Chiefs actually got the football in
the final seconds of that game. Because I think the
comeback against the Bills with thirteen seconds, when all is
(08:59):
said and done, with the three Super Bowls and what
the Chiefs did, it's that comeback that we will remember
as a top three moment in Chief's history, in Patrick
Mahomes's history, in Tyreek Hill's career, in Travis Kelcey's career,
to be able to save that game, to force it
to overtime by getting the two completions that they needed
(09:20):
in thirteen seconds to set up the long field goal
to tie it against Buffalo. Now, to think that lightning
would strike twice is a lot to ask. However, when
you see how the Chiefs handled or didn't handle last
night's game, tells me everything that these aren't the same Chiefs.
These aren't the same Chiefs that we knew going to
the Super Bowl. They had a holding penalty on a kickoff,
(09:42):
so then they were backed up at their own seventeen
still sixteen seconds left one time out, a pass to
Hollywood Brown went off his helmet, wasn't even looking, wasn't
even looking at the time. Another play ended up almost
getting picked off. They finally got a short pass play
to three seconds where Patrick Mahomes could maybe th throw
up a hail mary that got to the ten yard
line to even have a chance. But those sort of
(10:05):
situations the Chiefs would execute in clutch situations, and last
night to have a football go off Hollywood Brown's helmet.
And it's not anything personal about Hollywood Brown, but even
Troy Aikman said on the broadcast that if he catches
that he at least gets to midfield because of the
space and the momentum that he had, and he wasn't
(10:26):
he didn't even see the football. I don't even know
if he knew that it hit him in the helmet,
and that to me was in stark contrast to the
successful super Bowl bound Chiefs teams that we had seen
in the past. Now, they didn't go to a super
Bowl that year because they lost the next week to
the Bengals, but still those thirteen seconds against the Bengals
are against the Bills we all remember, and last night
(10:48):
to see how they operated late told me everything that
I needed to know about the Chiefs right now this season.
Speaker 7 (10:54):
Sam ten twelve am in Hawaii on this Tuesday morning quarterback.
I continue to be impressed by the Detroit Lions. Out
goes Ben Johnson taking the head coaching job with Chicago,
out goes Aaron Glenn taking a head coaching job with
the Jets. In comes John Morton from Denver, better known
for his salt and the top scoring offense in the
(11:19):
NFL is the Detroit Lions. If you were to take
out right now, they're averaging thirty four point eight points
per game. If you were to take out that thirteen
point performance in their opening game of the season and
the loss against the Packers, they're averaging about forty points
a game. I'm impressed the defensive as you're playing very
very well too.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Wits.
Speaker 7 (11:37):
This tells me is that Dan Campbell's fingerprints and culture
continue to just control the situation and they have an
incredible roster of talent. You see the trickery still there
that Ben Johnson was known for the last game against
the Bengals where David Montgomery, who I didn't even know
was a former quarterback, throws a touchdown. Brock Right, They
(11:58):
are so they will just spread you out. They are
just so lethal with all the different things they can do.
I'm just impressed by the Lions. They're not skipping a beat.
They are once again one of the best offenses in
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
How do you guys explain this? And maybe you'll give
me kind of the the obvious answer, but I'm hoping
maybe we could dig a little deeper. How do you
with all the quarterbacks in the entire league, like Joe
Burrow and these guys that just can't stay available, how
do you explain Jared Goff's ability to not get injured? Like,
(12:34):
what's what's the explanation for that? Is it? The scheme
very good at like Dan Marino was very good at
not getting injured.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
He's Matt Ryan, Dude, First of all, he's got a
good offensive line.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Yes, great offensive Line's going to go deeper than.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
That, okay, But he gets rid of the ball really quickly.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
It's one of the frustrating things when he was with
the Rams that he wouldn't throw the ball down the field.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
But he gets rid of the ball really, really quickly.
He's checked down. Charlie.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
I know that Jason wants to move past it, but
I just I don't think that it can be overstated
about their offensive line, because the Lions can beat you
with Jamir Gibbs and David Montgomery. They can run all
over you if they want to. They even have Taylor
Decker this past weekend against the Bengals and they still
were able to dominate. They lost their all pro center
Frank Reignow to retirement this past year, and they still
(13:23):
haven't missed a beat. To Sam's point, I think it's
a great job by Brad Holmes, but I think it's
how they've been their GM to build this team. But
when you have the threat of run and pass, it's
a world of difference. Look at Kansas City, they have
no running game. Cincinnati right now has no running game.
So you have these quarterbacks under pressure to be able
(13:44):
to just be able to do both. Yeah, Goff gets
rid of the ball quickly. I agree with all that,
but I think it starts up front because he wouldn't
be able to make it through the season if he
didn't have that. The Wall of five Guys.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Question for you, Dan, you know more skill disision players
than anybody in the building, right, because you'd like the
Fantasy king with the I.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Want Your Flex podcast?
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Did you have was Jacory Krossky merit on your radar
before the weekend?
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Yes, yeah, he's been He's been around. He was drafted
in leagues, especially when the Commanders traded Brian Robinson to
the forty nine ers. Yeah, yeah, yes he was. He
wasn't name that.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Do you know his story at all?
Speaker 5 (14:28):
I just know that they call him Bill.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
He went to Alabama State in twenty nineteen, Like he
just finished college last year. He went to Alabama State
starting in twenty nineteen. He's one of those guys like
you're still in college. He was a zero star, one
hundred and seventy pound running back. I was reading an
article on him yesterday, and I bring that up because
obviously you pay any attention he had one hundred and
eleven yards against. Yes, the the Chargers have a ton
(14:54):
of injuries on offense, but staple is their defense and they.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Ran all of them.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
But I gotta be infused in my praise of dan Quinn.
Cowboys defense was one of the best in the league
when he was there. He leaves, their defense is a disaster.
He goes to the Commanders. They go to the playoffs
this year. They start out a little slow. Jayde Daniels
gets hurt as well. He comes back, they go be
(15:20):
our whole thing is the Chargers. The Chargers the charge, right,
but maybe it should be the Commanders and dan Quinn. Granted,
you know, Raiders and Giants aren't great teams. They have
the two wins there.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
They lost to the Packers on the road, the Packers led,
you know, kickoff to finish.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Then they lose the Falcons.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
On the road in the close game.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
But I just you know, as we know that the
Eagles are the most talented team in that division and
maybe the league. We we thought, okay, maybe this is
Jaden Daniels year where he's you know, sophomore slump. Now
they're at three and two. You know, they played three
of the last four at home, they get the Bears
(16:01):
at home, two more on the road, and then a
very heavy home friendly schedule for the Commanders.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
I just I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
In this league we talk about a lot of coaches
for whatever reason, Ashley, we don't talk about Dan Quinn
and what an amazing job he does, so I want
to talk about it.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
He does. Yes, I mean you have a look at
your face. No. I think that it's funny because last
year at the Super Bowl I spoke with Austin Eckler
and Brian Robinson who was a commander at the time,
and wish he was he was well, Brian Robinson wished
he was anywhere else except sitting with me doing an interview.
He could not have looked less interested. We even have
(16:44):
the photo weapon my.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Robins did to get shot. So I definitely think he'd
much rather be with you than when he was.
Speaker 8 (16:49):
No.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
I think the look on his face was that I'd
rather be getting shot than they sit in with this guy.
Speaker 7 (16:54):
And and he had a giant pile of chicken wings
in front of him, like wouldn't that make you happy?
Speaker 5 (16:57):
That make anybody?
Speaker 8 (16:58):
Well?
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Yeah, but he he wasn't. But the message that was
given to me from Austin Eckler, was that dan Quinn
had these guys buying into the commander's nickname, like to
take command, like it was a message, It was a
mantra within that building. And so while we as fans
may not like the commander's nickname, dan Quinn had the
(17:21):
players buying in so much so that they had warned
to the nickname that it became who they are. And
I think that shows dan Quinn as a leader. And
again during that coaching cycle, the last coach hired, Commanders
were gonna interview Ben Johnson he backed out. The Seahawks
were looking for a coach at that time. Dan Quinn
(17:42):
seemed like an obvious fit to return, But me and
many other Seahawks fans were like, no, we don't want
to go back. We don't want more of the Pete
Carroll era, and dan Quinn has got the dan Quinn era.
So I think your point about the commanders is very
well put. He is his own name.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Anybody else want to get in? No, Okay, that's Tuesday
Morning Quarterback.
Speaker 6 (18:04):

Speaker 2 (18:17):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's a seven time All Star, four times Silver Sucker.
But more importantly, he's the father of the former number
one overall pick, Jackson Holliday, who starts for the leadoff
man for the Orioles, and then of course Ethan Holiday,
the number four overall pick of the Colorado Rockies.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
He's his dad as well.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
And then of course you know you got Grayson Reed.
They need to get mentioned.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
It's Matt Holliday. He joins us on the Doug Gottlieb
Show on Fox Sports Radio. Great night in baseball if
you're just a baseball fan. But Phillies get behind and
really challenge that Dodger bullpen. What do you think of
how that game played out?
Speaker 8 (18:58):
Yeah, I mean I thought the I thought the Phillies
would win one at home. It's a very hard place
to play. It's a great environment to play baseball. They
the postseason there is electric I'm surprised the Dodgers were
able to get out of there with a sweep. Obviously
very difficult for the Phillies.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (19:17):
Moving into going to l A and and trying to
win to in LA to bring it back to Philadelphia
is going to be difficult. So I was surprised that that,
you know, they didn't they weren't able to get a game.
Obviously close games, but you know, the Dodgers just you know,
came up with the one extra hit. Obviously the bunt
(19:40):
play into the wheel. You know, he mean on second
nobody out, you have a left hand hit her up.
It's easy to second guess now because the bun did
not work, but if you have a left hand hit
her up, and really, all he's got to do is
is pool ball on the ground and sometimes easier said
than done, but for him to not see to shortstop vacate,
(20:01):
which obviously Mookie Betts he's faster than most shortstops, so
he can wait later to vacate. But as a hitter,
you're taught to if you see that that play, then
you pull back and you slug and you certainly don't
bump right into the to the to the wheel play.
So that that that was hurt hurtful for the Phillies.
And then you know they you know, they didn't pinch
(20:21):
run either Castianos because you had Bader, who you planned
on pinch hitting, who has a has a hurt leg
or whatever source, they were gonna have to use a
pinch runner for him, so they don't run for Castianos.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
So that that whole.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
Play, obviously was was a huge deciding factor in the
game and could have gone a couple of different ways,
and you know, went the Dodgers way. And then Freddie
Freeman makes a huge pick at the end. I mean,
that's a very very difficult throw to handle coming from
a second basement where he you know, kind of cuts
it and the in between hop.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Uh so it.
Speaker 8 (20:56):
Certainly helps to have a formal gold glover at first
that that staves the So, you know, good, good two
days for the Dodgers and uh probably heartbreaking for the Phillies.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Was that Edmund with that last throw? I mean.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
That was I was crazy, right, like, oh it feels it. Whoa, whoa, whoa?
What's that?
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Have you ever gotten that feeling where you just all
of a sudden, your big play is just super tight
out of nowhere.
Speaker 8 (21:27):
Oh yeah, I mean that happens. I mean, you know,
especially like I never played second, but I can imagine,
you know, the second base is such a short throw,
so it's like a it's that in between throw that
sometimes you see, you know catchers or pitchers or guys
that make a ton of throws. It's a half speed
throw that gets a little yippy. You could even almost
(21:47):
see on the replay Edmund like watching the ball come
out of his hand, where typically when we throw we
just we just pick it up and rip it to
the target. It almost looks like on the replay like
he was watching it come out of his hand as
it was kind of like cutting and you could see
his hand get on the side of it. But that's
the I think those are the throws sometimes, especially in
(22:10):
a big spot where you don't have to rip it
and you don't you know, you're just trying to get
it over there because it's you know, it's it's not
going to be a close play if you make a
decent throw. But you know, with Trey Turner running, I'm
sure that's in the back of his mind. Uh So
it was it looked like one of those oh crap moments,
and Freddy picked him up and and uh, you know,
(22:32):
certainly could have gone a different way if if he
if it, you know, clanks off of him and the
runner score some second but you know it, he picks
it and and uh, now the Philly has got their
work cut out for him.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Okay, so two games Anne is not impossible. But when
then when you add in you're on the road and
you're down to none to the defending World Series champions,
and Yamamoto is going to start game three. What are
your thoughts in the likelihood that the Phillies make this
thing a series?
Speaker 8 (23:00):
Yes, I mean it doesn't feel good. I mean, the
Dodgers play so well at home. You know, I think
they have the talent. I mean, they have, you know,
a ton of star power, and certainly Schwarber and Harper.
Harper could get hot and hit a couple of homers
or you know, and and uh, you know, run into
a couple of balls and and uh and and and
(23:22):
change the momentum of the series. But I would be surprised,
I think it. You know, at this point, I hope
it goes five, but just because I love playoff baseball,
but i'd i'd probably lean closer to it going being
uh as sweet for the Dodgers. And you know, with
Yamamoto the way he's been when pitching, you know, I
think the you know, the Phillies without a couple of
(23:44):
their starters, you know, it's it's I would I would
say that the Dodgers are are firmly in position to
end this quickly.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Uh wid name is Rosky And how he pitched coming
up yesterday.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
Well, I mean, you know, it's been it's been pretty
amazing when you when you look at that kind of velocity,
you know, you know, even with his sliders in the
high nineties and and just it's it's pretty amazing. I guess,
you know, as a starter, you you it was it
was pretty well, Wow, this guy's throwing a hundred. But uh,
bringing him in out of the bullpen and with all
(24:24):
that adrenaline and in the playoff atmosphere for him to
be able to harness it, it looked, you know, he
was a little erratic early, kind of kind of all
over the place a little bit with his fastball, but
then through enough strikes and at that velocity, there's really
no margin ferrer as a hitter. So he threw enough
strikes and you know, pitch probably seemingly with more emotion
(24:48):
than than than he had all season. And the Brewers,
you know, they got it going it's a it's a
great another you know, you talk about another playoff environment
that's fun to play in that Uh, the fans are
it's loud, it's you know, with the Dome, it's it
can get it can get really really loud in there.
And and you know, they've got some some special going.
I mean, they're certainly playing with a ton of confidence,
(25:08):
and you know, Murphy seems to have them all jelled
and you know, playing the right guy at the right time,
and and everybody bought into their role and and it's
it's been pretty fun to watch, pretty impressive. I think
I maybe, you know, one of one of a few
that have maybe underestimated their ability to maybe win the
World Series. I didn't really think of them when I
(25:30):
thought about who would win the World Series, but uh,
they're starting to make me think twice about, you know,
the possibility of of them being able to make a run.
I mean, I still like the winner of the Dodgers
Philly series out of the National League, but they certainly
are are making a case that this might be some special.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
The Yankees are down two games done, they return home,
they faced Bieber.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
How do they match up with them?
Speaker 8 (25:53):
I think they match up well with him at their park,
all their left hand hitters. I think that's their best
lineup obviously, is when they can play all their lefties
or what they do, play all their lefties and against
the right handed pitcher. Uh. I think they win tonight.
(26:14):
I'd like that one to go five. I mean, I
think I think they can get back. I think they
can get back to Toronto. But again, Toronto is really
hot also, and and uh, they're kind of like uh
Milwaukee where you know, they seem to have that mojo
going right now where they they think they're gonna find
a way to win. And you know, they just believe
(26:37):
in themselves at at a really really high level, which
when playoff time, when you have that vibe coming to
the field where it's like, we we're gonna find a
way to win. It may not look the same as
it did yesterday or two days ago, uh, but at
some point we're gonna make the the best play or
make the best swing or the right right pitch and
and uh and we're gonna win. So uh, I think
(27:01):
the Yankees win Game three, and then uh, you know,
I don't I think I think I don't know. Again,
it seems like Toronto kind of has the mojo going.
But I'm hopeful that one goes five, just because, like
I said, I love to watch playoff game fives in
playoff baseball, cal.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Raley, they're playing right now. Cal Rawley had sixty home runs.
One of the things I love talking to you about
is like swings in baseball. And obviously he's just prodigious
power hitter. The ability to do it as a catcher
for like ninety percent of the season is unbelievable. What
what's what makes his swing unique?
Speaker 8 (27:38):
Well, I mean the fact that he's a switch hitter,
I think is helpful because the ball has never gone
away from you, you know, so to speak, where you
know the ball, the breaking ball is always coming towards you.
Which again, but you're always having to work on two swings,
So that's not necessarily like this huge advantage. But you know,
he's he's a big guy, and and that's a big field.
(28:00):
And which makes it even more impressive is that is
not a good hitter's park. And so for him to
hit that many homers in a in a pitcher friendly
park and a you know, kind of a cooler weather
environment is even more impressive. But what I think there's
there has been some documentation on adjustments that he's made,
and he's staying more over his backside. He's not slide
(28:21):
his hips aren't sliding forward, so his bat's getting a
further out in front. He's catching the ball a little
bit further out in front, which means the ball is
going to be in the air more often. And you know,
as big as strong as he is, if he hits
the ball in the air, he's got a great chance
of hitting over the fence. So I think he's made
some nice adjustments mechanically to go along with you know,
(28:44):
really really strong hands and in a big body. But
like you said, to do it, uh, primarily as a
catcher and a and a primarily a pitcher friendly environment.
It's it's pretty incredible. But I think Judge probably wins
the MVP, but I would be okay with with Raleigh
getting it.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
What's interesting is like Suarez hit forty nine, nobody actually
even knows on.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
The same team is cal Raley, Right, It's like.
Speaker 8 (29:12):
Hey, well, you know a lot of his were in Arizona.
But still, I mean, he's he's a he's a he's
a big time power hitter. And you know, I think
people are starting to realize in the playoffs you need homers.
It's hard to put together three singles to get a run.
I mean, pitching is pitching is that good? In the playoffs?
You need you need, you need to hit the three
run homer if you get runners on to to put
(29:34):
up crooked numbers. It's it's hard to hard to piece
together an old school rally.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Yeah, yeah, although you're you're right, I mean, you look
at the Brewers and their home runs, you do you
still you do need defense though as well, right, I
mean that's it's it's kind of one of the changes
with some of the change and rules and with more
rallies being part of it. I mean we we circle
back to the Dodgers. Dodgers, No, to the the Dodgers game, right,
I mean, unbelievable play to get them at third base.
(30:00):
You talked about the the lack of base running substitutions
for for for the Phillies. Then you have the Dodgers
executing properly defensively in a key situation.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
So it does take take all of it.
Speaker 8 (30:13):
Oh yeah, sure, there's there's a ton of small plays
in baseball. You know that they come down to the
you know, as far as execution, you know, even just
defense and you know, like even the Yankees Dodgers series
last year, they were talking about how if you just
let the Yankees, you know, they'll make enough mistakes that
you can capitalize on them and beat them. So yeah,
you have to execute. I mean, there's no doubt. But
(30:35):
you know, as far as scoring in bunches, it's it's
very difficult to score in bunches the way the pitching
lines up now. So if you get a get a
guy on, you get a walk or a you know,
a single, and then you know you got you got
guys up and down the lineup, they can go deep.
You know, that's your best way to to uh, to
put up significant offense. But yeah, there certainly has to
(30:57):
have some some defense and athletic ability to to make
sure that you're not giving away free bases or three runs.
Speaker 2 (31:05):

I didn't.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
Yes, it is a huge, huge day. Sure, we've got
baseball Still no baseball yet in Detroit because of the
rain delight between the Mariners and Tigers, Jays and Yankees tonight,
But Doug, we also have there it is that was
the sound familiar to listeners and viewers back in the
day when the NHL was on Fox. The NHL's regular
(32:41):
season is about to get underway in thirty minutes, as
the Blackhawks and Panthers skate in Florida, the first of
three on this opening day triple header. In the NHL
preseason or like regular season regular season, the games count
the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers again home to the
black Hawks. Penguins and Rangers will skates in Madison Square Garden,
(33:04):
and tonight the Avalanche and Kings in Los Angeles is
part of this opening night tripleheader.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
I got a game for us ready. Let's all pick
a team. We don't have to know anything about None
of us know anything about that, right Oh. Sam probably
has like a litany of things he wants to say
about hockey.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
Ah, not so much good.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
You guys don't want to pick a team and be like,
my team's doing well, Like you can take it, you
can get behind it.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Absolutely, Let's do it, okay, right now?
Speaker 1 (33:35):
Yeah, blind, Yeah, just pick a team.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
I want Winnipeg. Why because Canadian Remember last year so
big on Canada getting a Stanley Cup.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
I agree, I mean I again. I just I didn't
ask why, like it's a bad thing. I just want
to know what you're logic buy.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
Yes, that's one of the reasons why. So give me
give me Winnipeg.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Uh, the Winnipeg Okay, Jay Stu.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
Let's go with my hometown, Tamie. Let's go with the Ducks.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
The Ducks.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
Yeah, hometown five minutes down the fifty.
Speaker 7 (34:10):
Seven on the center. I've been there. I saw a
Ducks Canucks game there once, Riveting.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
Okay, Sam, I'm gonna go with.
Speaker 7 (34:17):
The Philadelphia Flyers. I have a Simone Gagne jersey. I
like to rock everyone now and then, So give me
the Flyer.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
Not bad. One hundred and fifty Still one hundred and
fifty to one to win the Cup. Let's go Ducks
one twenty five to one, Winnipeg twenty to one. This
according to bet online.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
You're stuck between three teams, Dan, help me, help me,
help me make a pick edmanto An Oilers. Just because
when we grew up the two teams when I grew
up that were good and I sort of pay attention
I was a little kid. Was the Islanders and.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
The Oilers, same color scheme.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Ones in ones on Long Island. One's in Edmonton, Alberta.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
Yeah, one has the worst player in hockey, and it's Steed,
which windows Edmonton.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Okay, pushing me?
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Or the Minnesota Wild and one proximity closest to me
Chicago probably the closer or whatever. Or two it's the Wild, which,
as I think you'll probably know if you have had
little kids to watch Madagascar, right, you go out.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
To the wild and for whatever reason, that's the same word.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
That's what I think of.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
Well, you could just hop on a highway twenty nine
and uh you know, then on drive across the state
of Wisconsin go to go to Minnesota. Now you gotta
hop on the innstate as well.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
I'm gonna do the Edmonton Oilers, that's my team.
Speaker 5 (35:42):
Jeez, Vantwagan pick the.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
I'll do the New York Islanders.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
That's my perfect There you go one hundred to one Islanders.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Fire them, Fire everybody.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Sorry, I was just unlocking my inner New York fans.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
What else you got?
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Chargers made a trade acquiring Ravens out side linebacker o
fe Oway, he had ten sacks last year. Sent a
fifth rounder in safety of Lohih Gilman to the Ravens
get a seventh round.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
You know, his brother Otega Away plays for Kentucky basketball
player one of the best college basket players in the country.
Speaker 5 (36:15):
This the second trade of the day is the Bengals
acquired Joe Flacco in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
Quarterback expected to get the start against the Packers on
Sunday for Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Right, that's like Johnny Manziel midweek trade. I hope it's
not like Johnny Manzel when he came in and beat
the won the game for the Rams. But he is
I guess, yeah, Baker Baker. Who'd I say, Baker Mayfield? Sorry,
not Manzel, My bad. Baker Mayfield came in, remember with
the midweek he came in, played for the Rams, got
(36:46):
to win on Monday night football.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Yes, I didn't know any of the plays. It would
be like Joe Flack.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Let him like ninety yards downfield for the game winning drive. Yeah,
and ESPN says Bucks forward Giannis and Teta Kompo told
the team that if he were to go anywhere. He
wanted to go to the Knicks, so the sides had
talks this offseason. Nothing ever materialized.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Hmm, the Knicks and now become a destination. And by
the way, Lebron with the whole decision part due and
you're just gonna drink Hennessy. Come on, man, check out
