(00:24):
How you knowing We're coming to you live from sunny
southern California. Hope you're having a great day. If you're
not listen to this show for the next hour, download
the podcast. Am I Light in your Days? That's the idea.
It's the idea, you know. I don't think there's a
(00:51):
dues in Like, if you ever want somebody to tune
you out, have them tell you how to raise your children. Right,
I'll tell you how to raise your children. I have
three tour in college, not perfect in any way. I
(01:14):
do give pieces of advice, you know, over time, and
you know, because you live long enough and you know
how it goes. And all three of my children, you know,
raised sort of equally. They all have their own pluses,
(01:34):
their own. I guess you'd say quirks and minuses or whatever,
but I remember something, and this is a weird kind
of shout out. This is actually my wedding. I'm divorced
by wedding anniversary day would be today, and I have
nothing but wonderful things to say about my ex wife.
She's awesome lady. She was married for me to me
(01:55):
for twenty three years, so we're good. But she told
me something a long time ago. We had neighbors. When
I first went to ESPN. We moved to a town
called Burlington, and we lived on this cul de sac
but they had it was like woods in between houses
or whatever, and so our house was it had like
(02:19):
three acres, was like a long driveway, and then next
to us was a really beautiful, much bigger house that
was kind of below. And the neighbors were super nice.
They had two girls, and we didn't have any kids
at the time, and so we were all like, hey,
we don't we love kids, We want to have kids.
Your kids can come over anytime we want. And two
(02:42):
things I remember distinctly about our neighbors I'll leave them
as nameless. It was one they invited us. So actually
three things. We was the first time I learned about
a counter depth refrigerator. Do you guys don't want to counter
depth refrigerators? Okay, So there's a certain like amount of
depth for a fridge is a normal depth of a
counter and if you are going to usually a custom
(03:06):
made home or a nicer home, you have to buy
a specific kind of frigerator otherwise it sticks out, it's
in the way, so it's a little bit more compact.
So we had to order a counter depth fridge because
the people we bought the house of for whatever reason,
they wanted that fridge to take with them where they
should just left it behind because it fit the house
right anyway, So they were nice enough to leave us
(03:27):
like a college type fridge. So we were first month
or so we were waiting for this fridge. But our
neighbors again loaned us this fridge, like don't buy one.
We got one. We put it downstairs in the basement
that then next to this bar. It's great. So because
we didn't have fridge space, like it was our first
Thanksgiving in Connecticut. We went to their house and they
(03:47):
didn't have the games on on Thanksgiving and I remember
going like, hey, are you guys gonna watch the games
like what games like it's Thanksgiving, Football, Lions, Cowboys. I
don't know anything else. But the third thing was an
important one was they didn't let their children have sweets,
so their girls would come over to our house, watch
(04:10):
our dogs and dig into the sweet cat like we
had sweets. They were gone rappers everywhere you like. And
and the whole thing was if you you say no never,
they're just gonna indulge, or when they go to their
friend's houses they will. Whereas if you teach them moderation,
(04:34):
maybe you got a chance to keep them away from
just being sugarhounds. Does that make sense. I bring it
up because Michael Porter Junior is in the news. Of course,
he won an NBA championship with the with Denver Nuggets.
And you know remember his brother John Tay Porter has
been accused of I don't think he's been found guilty of.
He's been accused of of maybe not throwing games, but
(04:58):
throwing his own stats on these prop bets right for
his own personal stat line. So there were two things
that he said that jumped out to me. And this
was in a podcast recently, right, it's in a podcast
recently this is Doug Gotlib show here on Fox Sports Radio.
(05:20):
He said this about his own personal vices.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Do everybody has different things that they struggle with That
can go from people to struggle with alcohol, people that
struggle with drug you know, my brother, for example, struggle
with gambling. My vice has always come in the form
of women. And when I'm far from God and like
I'm not in my word, I'm not praying, I'm not
prioritizing him like that seems to be the place that
the devil gets me is in the space of women.
(05:45):
My brother Johntay, he never seemed to struggle with that vice.
You know, I never struggle with the gambling addiction. I
never struggle with that advice. God gave me a lot
of money because maybe he figured I could handle it
and not you know, lose myself in that area. And
maybe Dante he wasn't blessed with tons of money because
he struggled with that area of the idolization of money,
(06:07):
you know.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
H He also went on to say that, like, hey,
if I could make my buddies like ten thousand dollars
right that now, you know? Or like here's the thing
about Michael Porter, junior and I I actually I don't
(06:29):
know him well. I'd know his dad's some and uh,
I you know he's the family is great, but they're
super tight. And the stories go that he wasn't allowed
to have like sleepovers because you don't know what's going
on in somebody else's home and super super religious and
(06:52):
super super sheltered. Now you know, Tim Tebow seems to
have come out fine. Yet he was homeschooled and super
religious and super sheltered, but seems to be more than
a productive member of society. I think he actually does
some amazing stuff. He talks about Tebow and things he's
done even after he's played. And this is not an
(07:14):
attack on Christianity, on Judaism, any sort of Jehovah's witnesses,
Jehovah's witness where you know, you don't celebrate anything, or Mormonism,
but it is the thought of if you deny kids
the ability to do normal kid things, they're gonna be
forced to figure those things out when they go to college,
(07:35):
when they become adults. And I mean women as advice,
there's a line out the door, right. You know how
many of you guys have been staring at your social
media because all these sorority girls are scantly dressed and
they're doing dances to celebrate rush, which, by the way,
just so we're aware, like the high level rush checks,
(07:59):
they're real like annoying, like you're, yeah, you came to
school to get an mrs. Degree. We are well well aware. Anyway,
the first my first thought to my mind is again,
I'm not going to tell anybody how to raise their kids.
(08:21):
And we did not raise our kids to be super religious,
to be more spiritual, but very rarely did they step
foot in temple, and even more rare did they step
foot in church. Their moms Baptists, their dad's Jewish. And
if I could go back and do it again, not
(08:42):
if I would have forced religion, but I think it
would have made it more part of what our family does. Right.
You know, once a month we go to temple, once
a month, we go to church, you know, every other
month or something like that. Because there's nothing wrong with
whatever your path is to God, whatever can bring great
balance to you. But when you maybe over indulge or
(09:07):
you overprotect, then it's simply a case of they don't
know how to deal with it, right, don't know how
to deal with it. And I mean even Michael Porter's saying,
and do we have that quote where he said, hey, like,
you give me ten thousand bucks and I can make
(09:27):
you as all ten thousand bucks, like yeah, as cursing
and it, so we will not bleep it out. I mean,
we know you can make a lot of money selling drugs.
You can do that. You can make any You're like, well,
drugs are not gambling, like okay, but gambling does have
a certain kind of drug addictive element to it. And
oh yeah, by the way, it's against the law, rightly,
(09:51):
So why is it against law? Well, because if you
can control your stats just for your boys for one games,
that makes those games illegitimate. And once they become illegitimate,
now it crosses over into entertainment, much like the WWE,
where That's why I've never been like, well he's a
world champion. Well, somebody wrote a script. He's a world champion.
(10:12):
There's nothing really achieved in that anyway. I just again,
I'm not telling you how to raise your kids. And
if you've ever spent time around Michael Porter Junior, like
he's he's a really nice guy. You know, he's a
really nice guy. They're very well thought, very well thought out,
(10:33):
very well spoken. But and he admits, you know, women
is his vice, Well would it be his vice if
he had a more I don't want to say normal.
What's the mainstream? Is that that that's the term, right?
Or more mainstream high school existence where you have to
(10:54):
And we do this with college basketball with basketball players
all the time. Right, guys go to these prep schools
and they live in like a basketball house, and and
they takes class with just themselves. And then they go
to college and we try and make our guys go
to in person class as much as possible, but they
do more and more where they're just in the facility.
(11:15):
They're just in our locker room and in the gym,
and they're like, you want them to go out and
be people and you know, within reason, make the reasonable
college mistakes of relationships and you know, running having a
budget and learning what to spend what not to spend. Instead,
we put them in a bubble. And when the become
(11:35):
adults and you'd let them out of the bubble, they
don't know how to they don't know how to deal
with it. I loless you nod in your head.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
You're preaching to the choir, and a couple of things
have exacerbated that for this current generation because my kids
are much younger than your kids. Number one, the pandemic.
Number two the iPads. It's a constant struggle for us
as parents to get them away from their iPads, which.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
You say, IM sorry, I was look at my phone.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Precisely, and ironically I was too. I was on Venmo
coming up with creative descriptions. But that's another story. Because
in their iPads, they have all these online real life worlds,
and they're like more well versed in these simulated worlds
than in real life unfortunately. So it's a constant struggle
(12:28):
to keep them away. Because when you and I were
growing up, we played outside all day, all weekend. We
roam the neighborhood, going from sport to sport. And kids
just play differently these days, meaning they don't play that
way anymore because of accommodation of factors.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Yeah, no, you have got to get a set up
a play eight. Yes, you got to set up a
play eight, right, and then most most of the play
is like on a sports team, right, And they don't
play the sport outside of playing the sport with a uniform, and.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
They don't how to learn how to referee the games
themselves and settle disputes themselves, because there's no like pickup
ball among kids hardly anymore.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
No, no, no, So I'm not telling you that the
porters raised heathens. This is not me saying that. I'm
just saying that that extremes on either side. I think
we would all say like, hey, if you can avoid those,
(13:29):
And by extremes, it's like the kid that had to
get up in the morning and cook breakfast for his family,
for his little brother and make sure he went to school,
you know, and he came home and he was the
dad of the house because the parents were out of
the house, or maybe there's only one pair in the house,
or maybe use maybe they just kind of lived on
their own. Like that's one extreme to where they don't
have the support system needed. The other extreme is to
(13:53):
where you bubble them. They don't have sleepovers, not allowed
to do that stuff because you don't know what happens
to those sleepovers. I'm like, yeah, I mean, then first
naked girl I ever saw fast times a Ridgemont High, Right,
the cool kid just moved in down the street, got
to have a sleepover, like what is this? We get
to watch naked girls and nobody covers my eyes and
(14:15):
we're watching it like this is cool. Stuff happens to
thee boards. It's the everything in moderation sort of argument.
Everything in Moderations for argument s Doug Gottleep Show here
on Fox Sports Radio. Uh coming up next. Wait to
hear what Brad Beale said he wants to get most
in life after joining the Clippers. That's a good one.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
I'm the producer of the Paula and Tony Fusco Show.
Usually in these promos they ask you to listen to
the show. I'm here to ask you please don't listen
to the show. The hosts are two absolute morons who
have the dumbest takes on sports imaginable. Don't listen to
the show, So it can get camp who.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
What the hell are you doing in our studio?
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Get him? Ignore that fool.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
Listen to the Pauline Tony Fusco Show on the iHeartRadio
app or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
He's still moving. For over forty years, Tyrek has been
helving customers on the right time from out, what and
where they drive, ship fast and breed back by free
road as protection with convenient slation options like mobile tireslation
Tyra dot com the way Tyraq, Tyraq, the way tire
buying should be. Excuse me, I love that Michael Porters saying,
(15:53):
like man, women, it's my advice is that the devil? Right?
I don't know, they should call every perfume the devil.
That's the devil. It's the devil, the devil. It's got me.
Uh did you guys see what what or hear what
(16:14):
Brad Beel said after he he joined the Clippers. Brad Beal,
of course, long time Washington Wizard. By the way, how
come nobody's how come nobody's trying to have the Wizards
bring back the capitals? Not capital is the Washington Bullets
(16:37):
Washington Bullets? Sorry my bad? Well, why is nobody trying
to bring back to Washington Bullets, trying and big back
the Redskins. Why don't bringing back to Washington Bullets. I mean,
you got to bring in the National Guard to take
care of DC. It's appropriate nickname, right anyway, So Brad
Buil goes from the Wizards to the Suns to the
(17:00):
Clippers and says this, I need a ring.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
I need a ring, if you know, I want one bad.
And I feel like I got a new life of
a rejuvenation for sure, and new hunger. I'm excited about
the opportunity a new city, new environment, but a hungry
environment too, you know, I'm definitely excited about the opportunity
to go to go win.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Now. Look, I've been a defender. I think there. I
think Tyler is a great coach. I think Kawhi Leonard
when he's right, is one of the elite players in
the league, although he's starting to get a little longer
in the tooth. But they stop James Harden ring, they
stop James Harden. They have Chris Paul. Okay, so you're
not winning a championship with James Harden as one of
(17:39):
your top players. And I love Chris Paul, but to
say he's a saber tooth tiger, thinks he's long in
the tooth, and then you bring in bad Brad Beale
and he's like, these are great names. Ten years ago,
this team wins the title. But this is one of
those Uh oh, you're you're new in town, right, Oh yeah, yeah,
(18:04):
the Clippers. You need a ring joined the Clippers. Okay,
I mean he came from a team with three stars,
couldn't win bub kiss. Now you're with even older stars.
I don't see it, but hey, don't worry about it.
(18:24):
You know, at some point the Clippers will win. The
Clipper curse has changed. When I was a kid, the
Clipper curse was everybody they drafted would get hurt, either
before they ever played a game or during their first year. Right,
Danny Ferry wasn't very good, Danny Manning got hurt. Right,
They had all kinds of bo Kimball wasn't great. You know,
(18:47):
it's like the eighth pick overall, Randy Woods. Do you
guys remember Randy Woods at a lasal got drafted in
the first round. You're like, Randy Woods, Yeah, that was
the Clipper curse. Then the Clipper curse became they couldn't
get out of the second round, which is which is
where they are now. Thanks for listening to The Doug
Gotleb Show podcast. Be sure to catch us live every
(19:08):
weekday from three to five Eastern twelve two Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio. Find your local station for The Doug
Gotlieb Show at Foxsports Radio dot com, or stream us

And is the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's a former defensive lineman in the NFL. He's the
host of the Countdown of Kickoffers by bet MGM on
(19:29):
Saturdays nine am to an Eastern time. He's the one
and only Rich Ornberger who joins us on Fox Sports Radio. Rich,
Let's let's start with Matt Stafford, right, so rams team
that people think like, I got a chance? How much
does the Stafford News give you pause?
Speaker 5 (19:49):
Well, it definitely gives me a lot of pause. I Mean, look,
when we talk about football, we talk about two positions.
I guess we'll call it on a team, it starts
with head coach obviously, but then right after head coach
we go straight down to quarterbacks. And if you have
(20:11):
those two positions not on your roster. You know your
expanded roster, including coaches, man, you can do some special things.
We've seen it time and time again Belichick and Tom Brady,
Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes,
even Jared Goff and would what Dan the Man has
(20:32):
done in Detroit, Like I mean, it's it's it's got
to be those two positions that are noted up. So look,
I mean Matthew Stafford not practicing limited participation injured throughout
the preseason. He's the thumping heartbeat of that organization right now.
If he can't go, it doesn't matter how great of
(20:53):
a wonderkn Sean mcvayh is unless he happens into a
season like for example, Kevin O'Connell had with a competent
backup in Sam Darnold. It but that is so much
rarer to have success that way than it is when
you're paired up with a guy who's a potential future
Hall of Famer and you can prepare appropriately for a season.
(21:15):
We'll see where this story goes from here. And like
you said, the Rams are a contender, but without Stafford,
all of that goes into the question.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Mark pile, no question Doug Gottlieb show Here on Fox
Sports Radio. Rich Ornberger is our guest. Let's keep it
with the same stadium with so far, Rashaun Slater goes down,
tears Petell Attendon, so they move Joe alt over to
left tackle. But now you have a you have a
hole at right tackle. How much does this affect the Chargers?
(21:45):
And look, the easy answer is obviously a lot. He's
a tremendous player, but again, your alignment. So what I've
always been told is if you're going to replace somebody,
it's easier to play some if you're going to run
the ball as opposed to throwing the ball fifty times
a game. So how difficult is he to replace in
their system?
Speaker 5 (22:03):
Well, it depends on a lot of different things. It
depends on how well they develop talent on the offensive
line in Los Angeles, and obviously that's going to be
tested greatly losing a bookend like Slater. He's unfortunately suffered
and struggled with a couple injuries now over a short career.
But he is a tremendous football player up front, And
(22:24):
like you said, whatever accommodations you have to make to
fill in that massive hole on your line. Now, whether
it be switching alt over to left side, or you know,
trying to find somebody confident or suitable enough to fill
in the giant shoes missing at left tackle. Whatever you do,
it's going to create confusion and issues. I don't care
how deep your offensive line is. It will do both
(22:47):
those things. Look, yeah, the way Jim Harball likes to
run his football teams, he likes to really focus on
controlling the game clock, a lot of aggressive, heavy set
run fors and throwing play action off of it. You know,
he did that everywhere he's been, whether it's San Francisco
or Stanford or Michigan. You know, he sets his quarterbacks
(23:10):
up for success and protects him well because a he
invests in the trenches, whether he's recruiting at the collegiate
level or drafting there, and B he likes to run
the football and he likes to disguise things using play action.
So it is one of those systems where you could
get away with injuries up front. But let's face it,
it doesn't matter what system you are running. If you
(23:32):
lose a Pro Bowl or an All Pro player up
front at tackle. That is an enormous void to start
your season.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Shed or standers, what did you think?
Speaker 5 (23:43):
I love him. I love him. Love the way he played,
Love the way he prepared, even though he had some
limited snaps. I like the way he talks to the media.
I like the confidence. Look, I mean, is it cookie cutter?
Speaker 3 (23:56):
No?
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Is he doing things as a rookie that I would
never dream to do? Well? Yeah, you know, I mean
the elaborate draft party and you know, having an entourage
seemingly everywhere he goes, and you know, some of the
attention getting stuff. But he's born of a different era.
You know, we live in a time now and.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
I'm not rich, rich Rich, give me another guy. Cam
Ward was the number one pick. Yeah, he doesn't. He doesn't.
He doesn't roll that way. No, I mean it's not,
he's not. The quarterbacks are like, you know, they have it.
There's a different sort of decorum. So like, I'm I'm
with you on most things, and like again and I'm
(24:35):
I'm I'm not the guy who can judge. You know,
it's like I'm rudimentary fanboy, watching watching, So I don't
know what I'm I don't know. I'm not gonna sit
here and say, like some guys like I know what
I'm looking at. Right, I've always thought he holds it
a little bit long. He doesn't have a great arm,
he's not a great athlete. But but he's really really
accurate and he is confident and that that that's that's
(24:57):
half the battle, right. But like, dude, your fir game,
you're the four string quarterback and you've got a videographer
and a guy showing up rolling your bag, and then
you and then you go and confront a local reporter
and ask him about writing negative stuff like what are
we doing here? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (25:12):
I I like, like I said, I don't love all
of it, and I don't agree with all that.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Yeah. Sure, but he can play, you know, but.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
He can play, you know. And I mean, by the way,
it's it's it's tricky, Doug, because it's the preseason still,
so you know.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
I have no idea.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
Yeah, yeah, and I mean there's yeah, it's the Panther's
terrible defense from last year. Young players on the field Ebruary. Look,
I's trying to make the roster. I mean half of
the team in training camp, you know, half of them
are going to be selling insurance or used cards somewhere after,
you know, the next couple of months is you know,
comes comes to an end, you know, and that's no offense.
(25:50):
I mean, it's a noble professions, great way to make
a living. But we're not talking about every single one
of these guys is even going to be a professional
athlete comes to September. So so you got to take it.
You gotta take it as a step. Is it a
step in the right direction. Yeah, quantifiably it's a step
in the right direction.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Yeah, that's totally fair. I mean, look, you're an offensive lineman.
How do you think offensive lineman? Because because my thing
is I don't care how fans view it, but I
do care how his teammates view it and how the
coaching staff use it. How do you think they would
view Like if you're an offensive lineman and a guy
(26:31):
rolls in with an entourage when he's a fifth round
pick rookie, how would you handle that if you were
his offensive lineman.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
The veteran guys are going to be nauseated by it.
But the guys who are coming in, who are now
watching the star skill position players and quarterbacks at their colleges,
not all of them but some of them lean into
the fame because look, this isn't just in football, this
is in all aspects of life. Fame is tradable commodity. Now,
(27:01):
if you have a large enough following on social media,
you can trade that in for real life dollars. It
used to be fame was the after effect of doing
something special. Nowadays, fame makes you special, and it doesn't
matter if you said pok tua one time on Broadway
in Nashville, or if you threw for seven thousand yards
(27:23):
in a college football season. If you get fame, you
can make money. And so some of these younger offensive
linemen they lived that life. They watched players lean into
their fame and commoditized it. So what he has to
do is he has to try to win the veterans
who aren't going to understand this new era player. And
(27:43):
if he can do that, or I should say, the
fastest route to doing that is winning football games and
being dependable. If he can win football games as a
starter and be dependable, you can look past a whole
lot of the other stuff.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
What do you make of of the Caleb Williams. He's
having a disappointing camp. We see the thing of him
missing some things. I don't care about you missing some
throws at a net, but you know, to me, you
hire Ben Jonson, He's hired for one guy and one
guy only. I don't know what. Give me your thoughts
(28:20):
on on the early narrative that Caleb Williams is struggling
with Ben Johnson's system, the new system.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
Obviously there's going to be growing pains in a new system,
you know, I mean, can can I'm not making excuses
for Caleb Williams, but can having a head full of
you know, all the adjustments that you have to make
and feelings of change, and you know, can that all
be distracting to you and and affect your performance at practice,
(28:49):
whether it be accuracy on a on a net one day,
or you know, you know, some frustrations that have arisen
throughout the course of training camp, whether it be from
teammates or fans watching, or videos that have gone viral
now in social media. Yet certainly, can, I would I
would heed, I would I would heed the advice to
pump the brakes during the preseason, trying to make bold
(29:12):
assertions based on training camp tape, because that's why we
practice a lot of people. As adults, you forget what
it was like to practice as a kid. You go
out on a basketball court in your police Athletic league
or your CYO, you know, you're you're just you're learning
things for the first time. You're adjusting to new environments.
(29:33):
You're learning how to play with new teammates, you're learning
new systems, and everybody gives you a break because you
know you're a kid. As soon as you become a professional,
everybody thinks that every practice has to be perfect. Well,
if that were the case, what would be the purpose
of practicing? You know, I really do. I caution everybody
not to try to read the tea leaves based off
(29:56):
some scattered moments caught on tape from training camp. Let
this guy play a game or two or three into
the regular season. See how he's responding to a more
limited playbook that is scripted to face the defenses that
he's going against. And then let's talk about whether or
not he's adjusting well to the system. Right now, I'm
looking at all the cable Williams chatter as noise, because
(30:20):
that's all it really is.
Speaker 1 (30:21):

Let's start Isaac Longcrown and get to the press. The press.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Oh, what an eventful day it has been, most notably
with Oklahoma quarterback John Mattie issuing a statement denying involvement
in gambling after the screenshots that emerged yesterday in which
transactions on his Venmo account were labeled sports gambling. He
said in the statement, my Venmo descriptions did not accurately
portray the transactions, but were instead inside jokes between me
(32:39):
and my friends unquote do you buy it?
Speaker 1 (32:43):
I actually do.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I do think that the statement was very heavily collaborated
on between maybe lawyers and pr people. Some people on
social media suggested AI and chat GPT helped out.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
I mean it's college, right, it's apparently what they do
these days. Yeah, I guess there's some chat GPT blockers now.
And anyway, I do buy it, I really do, you know,
And I know I got so many my OSU brethren.
They're just sitting there going like, how could you buy that?
(33:21):
How could you buy that? Like hmcause I've done something similar,
and like why would you put sports gambling on it
if you're a college quarterback. Also, I just want to
point out, if you're searching people's venmos as a rando
college football fan, you really need to get this thing
(33:42):
called a life, right, called a life. Put your phone down,
walk around outside, enjoy the fresh air.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
I also think it's another cautionary tale. I think literally
there's nothing that you do on your phones any more
that can't be taken out of context by somebody or
captured somewhere. A photo, a text message to somebody else.
I think it's just another cautionary tale, saying which segues
(34:12):
into our next story. This is kind of an under
the radar story right now, but it could ramp up again.
Washington Post reports that the NFL will appeal Monday's ruling
by the Nevada Supreme Court that John Gruden's lawsuit against
the league can't be settled in arbitration but can go
to trials. So what that means is the Nevada Supreme
(34:33):
Court says that the lawsuit can't be settled behind closed
doors in arbitration, it can go to trial. The NFL
is going to try and appeal that, which they would
have to do all the way with the United States
Supreme Court.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
And then remember, the United States Supreme Court doesn't have
to hear it. Theyre like, eh, you know, they're like
your dad, I don't want to hear it. I don't
want to hear it. Well else you goat I loo.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
All right, this is another chapter for the la rams.
At last report, Matthew Stafford still not on the field
for practice today as he continues to recover from a
back injury.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Well, I mean, there was some talk in both the
past two off seasons he could retire do that back injury,
So really interesting that he continues to struggle with it. Stafforndly,
I'll say this about Garoppolo. I don't think Garoppolo is great,
but Garoppolo is your backup. It'll be fine. Then when
you get to the real games, you need Stafford to
be ready. Big question is like how much of Stafford
can you expect to get? How consistent can you get him?
(35:36):
You know, can he play every week or do you
have to give him give him weeks off?
Speaker 3 (35:40):
All right, our next item. I have a feeling that
this might be talked about in the coming days. But
apparently at four o'clock Pacific time seven o'clock Eastern time,
the release of the Kelseys New Heights podcast with special
guests Taylor Swift, and the buzz is that it literally
(36:04):
could be the most downloaded podcast of all time. As
it turns out.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
It would beat Rogan and Trump.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Well, no, it's very interesting because I was just going
to go there that one had what four hundred and
twenty million downloads. Apparently there was some sort of podcast
in Saudi Arabia, out of Saudi Arabia that had even
more downloads. I don't know what it was. I'm actually
trying to look for that and to see.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
It's the greatest podcast has ever been done. Some people
say I missed my calling.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
It was.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
It was a Saddi Raven podcast. I'm trying to find the.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Numbers, but Trump and Rogan was four hundred and twenty mins.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
I was four hundred and twenty million.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
They're not beating that, are they, Travis and Taylor. Yeah,
there's three hundred fifty million people in the United States.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
That's a good question. The experts think that it might
be downloaded. It might break the record because they're going
by downloads here.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Uh not less, that'd be some Yeah, that'd be some
funny business there.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Yeah, okay, so we will continue to track that anyway.
Our next item here on this edition of the Press, Boy,
this was this was kind of a gut punch. Rondale
Moore the Minnesota Vikings. They just confirmed a season ending
left knee injury. Yeah, and what happened was that he
also missed last season with a season ending right knee
(37:37):
injury suffered in a joint practice. And unfortunately, we see
this more often than people would think. Unfortunately, guys have
a season ending injury, they just come back, and then
the next year they suffer another season ending injury. It's
just extra extra devastating when something like that happens.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Yeah, and you know people, it's for forever. They said, Hell,
these preseason games, guys get hurt in they have these scrimmages.
You can get hurt just the same and this is
a non contact one anyway.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
And for example with Rashawn's later it happened in a
practice that was not a joint practice. And our final
item on this edition of the Press, the World Series
schedule is out. It was announced today by Major League Baseball.
And the reason I'm bringing this up is because of
the days of the week they are declining competition with
(38:26):
the NFL, so there will be no World Series games
on Sundays this year. Games one and two Friday and Saturday.
The travel day before Game three will be Sunday, and
then the following week a scheduled Game seven would be
on Saturday, November First. It used to be for many
years November their November First would be a Game seven.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
It used to be, so if you had a walk off,
are you mister November?
Speaker 3 (38:49):
You are mister November like Derek Jeter. So it used
to be that the World Series for many many years
would have two Sunday games, a Game two and a
potential Game seven. But this time around They're like, yeah,
we're not even gonna bother messing with the NFL.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Yeah, well, the NFL used to not play games on
Sunday night, right, Yes, you're right. And then they're like,
why are we doing this? We're the NFL, and they
went back to counting their money. Yeah, well, the NBA
is not backing down, but Major League Baseball is. And
that's the press. They get out there and pressed. That
was the press. Yeah, I mean, the Ja Materier story
is probably the biggest one classic college football. Somebody trolling
(39:29):
his social accounts and finding something to say, gotcha, And
then you realize it didn't get much and at least
it got us through our day, which gets us closer
and closer to real football. Right, It's Dog Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio.
