Sway tire Buying should be Hey, welcome in, Hey Dan,
(00:37):
let's have that conversation we're having on text. I think
it's fascinating. So, in a succession of events, right, the
the Raiders fired their head coach on Tuesday. Their general manager,
Tom Telesco was told he was safe on Tuesday, and
(00:57):
Thursday they fired him, and then yesterday and today there's
been multiple ports that Tom Brady is kind of the
lead guy here in some of this decision making, right,
I think, was is it Tom pelisera who reported that that, yeah,
he's basically the lead guy?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:14):
He was speaking with Rich eyes In earlier today, said
as much that Brady's the one kind of running the show,
whether it be with Pierce and Telesco and whatnot. But
Mark Davis is kind of handed over the reins to
turn over this new Raiders era, and Brady's the one
in charge.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
So, and then of course there's added speculation. Andrew Marshan,
who covered sports media, believes, and there has been growing
belief that this is his first and last year at Fox,
and that he'll then just assume role of being maybe
president of football operations with the Raiders is the thought.
(01:53):
It would be an interesting because Fox does have the
Super Bowl this year, so it would be a one
and done. But go out with a It's not like
you're gonna leave after the NFC Championship game. You get
to call those games. I don't think anybody would say
he's been great at calling games, right, Like, no matter
how much of a supporter at Tom Brady, you are,
nobody's like, man Brady, amazing, amazing. But do you think
(02:19):
he goes to being some sort of leadership position with
the Raiders. I don't know, Like that's a lot of
money he's walking away from that's a three hundred plus
million dollar total deal with Fox that I think, you know,
has some other things kind of interlaced in it, especially
with his TV twelve stuff. To leave that behind to
go run a football team that seems like Peyton Manning
(02:41):
stuff more than Tom Brady's stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
I you know, I find it interesting, and I know
Jason Stewart's thoughts, but I'd like to hear it because
I've heard people say that they feel that Tom Brady
has gotten better throughout the season.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
I don't know if that means he's great, he's good.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
And the only reason I say that is because a
majority of his games are on when I'm on the
air at Fox Sports Radio, so I don't get to
necessarily hear the broadcast. But I've heard some people say
that he has gotten better throughout the season. And I
don't know if he's taken those tips or the changers,
or if you guys have noticed it, But I at
least will give him credit for that if he has
(03:19):
improved or has at least addressed some of the faults
that he had early on in the year.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Chase two, I have not seen an improvement. I think
my opinion of Tom Brady right now is that he's
basically the Magic Johnson of the NFL. One of the
best to ever do it, one of the best ever
play it, one of the worst to ever talk about it.
Magic Johnson has been an absolute train wreck as an analyst.
(03:47):
Tom Brady has the same characteristic the Magic has an
utter lack of insight like he doesn't. He doesn't put
us in the helmet of the quarterback. He doesn't tell
us the ends of things like Greg Olsen does. And
I don't think you can coach that magic Johnson sure
(04:07):
has never learned it. So if he were to leave
Fox like tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised, and I think
Fox would welcome that.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Can I give my real, honest analysis on this thing,
And I'm gonna feel bad because someone will take this
the wrong way, and I know it's the actual analysis.
It's actually how I feel. And again I'm not being
disrespectful to you guys, but I've actually called games for
twenty years and I think I'm really good at it,
(04:41):
and I think I have a really good ear for
what's missing there. Okay, Brady's not very good. Matter of fact,
he kind of stinks, but he is Tom Brady. And
no matter what we think of his style of broadcasting,
when you can get if you can ever get to
him to being relaxed and just being Tom Brady and
just talking just talking football, you can be great. I
(05:03):
think one of the big problems is they put him
in Burkhart. Okay, and I say this thinking Kevin. First
of all, Berkhart is a great dude. I don't know
him personally. I just know I've never in a business
where everybody takes shots at other people. I've never heard
anybody say anything bad about Burkhart. But because he's not
like when Nance decided he liked Romo, he basically knighted Romo.
(05:28):
Nance made Romo look so good right, where Nance would
cover a lot of the stuff that frankly, Romo was
supposed to do and supposed to know. Now, Romo hasn't
come up to speed on because he hasn't really been
taught or hasn't He hasn't hasn't really put what he's
taught been taught into practice, and he's still kind of
(05:50):
in the same mode, hasn't necessarily grown involved as a broadcaster.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Right.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
But but Nance really really really made Romo look good
like the best guys. And I'm just gonna tell you,
like Iron Eagle and I have dear friends, great broadcasters,
Boog Shambi. I heard him calling the Kansas game so
two nights ago with Jay Williams like he's fantastic at
it and Spirodidas who I work with a bunch, but
(06:16):
Iron Eagle, and again, I know I'm good at it.
I'm in college basketball. I think I call as good
a game as anybody there is. But when I was
with Iron Eagle, man, I sounded amazing, And it's it's
just a gift that he has. Part of it is
he's been doing it long enough, and it's confident enough,
knows how to work the producers, knows how to make
(06:37):
you feel like I'm gonna get it, I'm gonna where
When it's Burkheart, it feels like because he hasn't maybe
made it in the public eye, or maybe it's because
he's trying so hard to just t Brady up, that
it's it's almost more like an interview than it is
them calling the game. Does that make sense to you, guys? Yes,
(07:01):
it's it's not sucking up to him, but it's like
it's so blatantly obvious that Burkhart hasn't if he was
with Mike Turrico, if he was with Al Michaels, if
he was with Jim Nantz, I think he'd be a
(07:23):
much better broadcaster because those guys have done it, they've
worked with anybody. They're not necessarily intimidated or in awe,
and it's not their job necessarily to make Tom Brady
look good. They just are gonna call it, and instinctively
they know how. They learn about their color analysts, and
they know when to get him in, when to not
get him in, and they kind of push all the levers.
(07:45):
The only thing they don't do is they don't say
the words, and they're constantly doing it. Whereas it's almost
like Kevin Burkhart, what do you think, Tom?
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Tom good one Tom? And he doesn't mean to do it,
but it's because where he is in the growth of
his own career and this is his first gigantic job,
whereas al Michaels has probably been doing it too long.
Like let's just be like he's still kind of grumpy out,
he's still out freaking Michaels, right, he still do you
believe in miracles? Yes, I think those two are miscast
(08:20):
and I think that's probably the biggest flaw. And then
the second biggest flaw is whoever's working with him hasn't
gotten to figure out to just relax. And last year
when he was out, he should have been doing more.
He should have been doing games. Gota do games a
lower level.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
You just learn.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
And again this is where I would put my own
like one, when I do college games, my first three
or four games, it was a little clunky every year,
and then you warm up to doing them. That's why
you love those tournaments earlier in the season. It takes
you a while. And now as a college coach, something
I hadn't done, but I had the skill set four. Okay,
you just learn as you go and you get better.
Some guys don't get better, you know, like I don't.
(09:01):
I don't know if Drew Brees, if he gets a
second shot, will be better because Drew Brees was the
exact same thing. They try and be what they think
people want to hear, and what they really want to hear.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Is just be Drew Brees.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Just be Tom Brady, you know, figure out a way
to get him to talk like they would talk to
a buddy when they're watching the game.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Yeah, I think honestly that that's that's part of it is,
let's be real, Tom Brady's kind of a dork, you know,
Like I mean like for as great as he is,
for everything that he has, he kind of is right,
Like that's that's like the portion of it. But then
there's the whole other factor of the does why does
Brady do it? And I think Brady needed this void
(09:41):
or wanted something that he felt was going to fill
this void in his life of not playing Fox gives
him a you know, big contract offer perfect. I'm out
of the game, but I'm still in the game now.
This Raiders thing is finalized. That comes along and he's
a minority owner. Guess what, that's probably scratching the itch
a little bit more because there's more of a competitive
(10:01):
side to it than there is of you know, being
in the booth on every Sunday and Monday and critiquing players.
And honestly, even though I just called him a dork,
he probably it's like it's why Tiger Woods can't give
golf lessons because Tiger plays the sport.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
It's such a different way that.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
You know, he just he wouldn't be good at it
because his mind works differently than everybody else's and what
he can do and what comes natural to him.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
There could be a portion of that with Brady.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
But I think now what we're going to see into
the Marshan report that Brady would stop at Fox, I
think it's because this Raiders thing probably does scratch the itch.
It would be more appealing to him to stay in
football and do what he wants to do after retirement
and gives him an opportunity to compete and be in
that arena again.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
I telled Irvin Meyer when he first got back to
Fox after the Jaguars job. I said to urban Meyer
in Collins dressing room, said, the mistake you made if
you wanted to stay retired was you went to games
and you called games for ESPN on site. Because and
(11:09):
this is for Brady, the same thing like if you're
in the studio, you don't feel the juice of the stadium,
you don't feel, you don't win, you're and this is
this is why I never lost that itch to coach
was the last five seven years of my broadcasting career.
I called I was. It was like three to one
(11:30):
calling games to doing studio, and when you're out there
at a game, all you want to be is in
that locker room. Win or lose, you don't care because
you're If you're a hooper, you want to be around
a hoop team, If you're a football player, if you've
led forty forty five other guys in the battle, you know,
forty six game day. You lived forty five guys in
the battle every day for twenty years, and now you don't.
(11:52):
And now it's you and Kevin Burkhardt and a bunch
of TV guys that just all suck up to you,
and none of them can look at you in the
eye and down the are the greatest athletes on earth.
You miss it. So yeah, I think there is a
certain amount of you miss that void in your life.
And look, I mean, Peyton Manning is probably the smartest
one of anybody. He could have called any of these
(12:14):
games ever, and instead he didn't do it because he
didn't want to do it. He wants to run a team,
but as of now he just gets to sit in
his couch and critique games and do his thing and
doesn't have to take orders from anybody else. God bless him.
God bless him. So again, I don't know. I have
(12:36):
no inside knowledge of any of it. But if really
smart connected people say he's kind of running the search
with the Raiders, it sounds like he probably is. And Dan,
what you're saying makes a lot of sense when you're
around it. When you're calling games on a weekly basis
and you have them been away that long, you probably
really miss it, and you probably have that itch and
(12:58):
you don't care about anything else. Yeah, by the way,
it's not like Vegas is Jacksonville or Cincinnati or Cleveland,
someplace that is foreign to you. It's Vegas. You can
go in and out and live where you want and
see your kids when you want and have a cool
place and then have a real life outside of it.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Fox wouldn't do this. This is never a possibility. No
network could ever do this. But if Brady started out
on the sixth team on Fox or CBS or wherever,
maybe there's a bit of a challenge and competition of Okay,
how can I try to get up to the to
the number one booth? But they also just has the
number one spot. Here's the check the whole deal. There's
(13:36):
no competition in that, and I think that's probably something
that he's missing as well.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Dan, I completely agree with you. That's what everybody should do,
is start and because what happens is to lower the
level and not even It's just it's very similar to
college basketball, right. My level is so much harder than
had I gotten a high major job, Like if I
got the Oklahoma State job, you have a whole academic wing.
You don't have to.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Worry about that.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
We don't have an academic advisor like we got it
we had. Each coach has to have. You have to
sit there and open up your stuff, show me what
you've done, you know, show me where you are with classes,
all this other stuff. Like there's so many things we
have to do, but you have to Those are things
you have to learn. And then when you get to
the higher level, people do it for you. Same thing
with calling games, you know, like right now, he doesn't
(14:26):
have to do all the research on his own. People
will do it for him. They'll send them the video,
they send them the notes, they do everything for him.
But the truth is you need to do it that
way so that you really dive deep into it to
figure out how to do it.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Yeah, it's tough.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
I mean even Greg Olsen first, as great as he is,
he joined that Fox is the number two guy and
then got bumped up to number one. It's tough for
those I know, you love Adam Marchalatta and what he does.
You know, he's kind of stayed in that same window.
Other guys have gotten opportunities moving up and networks. It's
a perfect world, but it's it's just very difficult to navigate.
(15:01):
And I don't know if it's the real world, but
ultimately I guess I guess the real question, at least
with you, is cam Brady do both?
Speaker 3 (15:09):
And I don't think.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
I don't think he's going to be able to if
he's had this much of a hand in what the
Raiders are doing moving forward. It's one thing to be
a minority owner and be silent, to be like, oh,
I'm just here so my investment grows and I'll show
up here and there.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
There's none of that with the Raiders, by the way,
just so you know, historically, if you're a minority stockholder
with the Raiders, there's no real true benefit to it
unless he's getting a chance to make some of these decisions.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
But anyway, go ahead and know that could be That
would be the reason why then he probably couldn't do both.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Now, you couldn't do both. From this perspective, it's different
than mine. You couldn't do both because no one's ever
going to tell you anything. You can't go and I'm
going to call the you know, call the Broncos game
against the Chargers, Like, no, you can't do that because
they're not going to sit there and let you watch
their practice and then you can pick apart which players
you want or oh yeah, by the way, call your
(15:59):
coach and say like, hey, so and so is going
to be out for a while, Like now you can't.
You know, if you really do the job, you know
so much more than you actually share on TV. It's
an art what people do when they broadcast a game.
If they've really done the job, you actually know what
plays are coming, what they're gonna do, if you sit
(16:20):
with coaches, if you have true insight, it's the It
just shows that Romo hasn't been doing the job. The
fact that he's not able to do it, and he
used to do the job, that's because he actually did it.
He actually called people, knew what was coming before it
was coming. That will never exist if you're Brady and
you're pulling the strings with the Raiders, it just won't.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Just won't.
Speaker 6 (16:41):

Speaker 6 (16:58):
I just.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Jase do. When I saw that Deshaun Watson's story, I
immediately thought of you and for people who are just
joining us. Bill Krackenberger joined us. He's one of Fox
Sports Tradio betting analysts. We hear from Dan Bayer in
a second in terms of the update of everything going
on in sports. One of the updates and Dan, I
apologize if this is in your update is Deshaun Watson
appears to have reinjured his achilles tenon report is that
(17:24):
he's had another surgery to fix it. He hurt himself sometime.
And what's weird is I don't know it's weird, but
on Sunday, while the Browns are playing a game, his
girlfriend posted a video of them like dancing by a car.
And then early this week we got reports that he
(17:46):
had re injured the achilles tendon. Now here's what I
do know about ten and repairs. I knew that I
know this from when I tore my ACL like three
and a half years ago. But also my dear friend
doctor Andy Carrick, who is in Orange County. Actually he
works in Fullerton, not far from when you grew up there, Jase.
(18:06):
Do anyway, when you get a graph, right, that's what
I was. When you get your Achilles fixed or your
ACL fix, right, you get a graph, they take another
ten in and they graft it. They literally, you know,
screw it into your to the to part of your
existing tenon. That graft the moment you walk out of
(18:29):
surgery is the strongest that'll ever be. Why well, because
you have screws there, like it's literally never going away.
But what happens is the tenon it kind of binds
together right through the through the screwing and the stitching whatever,
and then like I think it's two to four months
and maybe that tenon dies and then regenerates and then
(18:49):
you have a stronger tenon than you had before. That's
the that's how it works. So somewhere in that time
when he reinjured himself. But isn't it crazy that because
of the off field stuff right, like there is it's
not just no sympathy, but I said, when he tore
(19:10):
his achilles, I thought he'd never play again. And then
the Browns found a way after this injury to get
him to kind of change his deal. And basically, I'm
sure it was just kind of spread the cap out
so they felt like they could draft a quarterback this year,
and they played to Sean a little bit until whatever
quarterback they decided takes the spot and then he's not
(19:32):
just killing him in the cap and eventually they bit
a do now again. I think they could probably get
out of the whole rest of the deal. I don't
know how it's written with injury, but there's the karma
aspect of it, right the dancing on video while your
team is struggling and slogging through an awful season, one
(19:54):
that you helped offer. And then there's the karma for
all of the off the field stuff, where normally a celebrated, decorated,
former national champion quarterback it would be crushing to hear
he retore his achilles ten and only three months after
(20:15):
doing it initially, Instead everybody's like, eh, yeah, I don't
know Jaysetuo, you have like a little bit of glee
over this, don't you.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
I don't have glee.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
I don't like anybody seeing anybody get hurt. But there's
a guy who I mean he I was told he
was like the perfect prospect off the field before all
the stuff in Houston, and turns out he was not.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
I definitely don't have glee over it. I think he
is happier than anybody else. I don't think Deshaun Watson
wants to play football again, like I think he likes
cash in the checks and yeah, he got away with
all those acting usations and he's going to be cashing
checks for the for the our note the future without
(21:08):
having to earn it. And to me, he's getting away
with something. So I'm not gleeful. It's really kind of
it's tragic and said. If you're a Browns fan.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Let's welcome in Bill Krackenberger crack of course. You can
hear him on Fox Sports Radio every Sunday along with
Ryan no and Jeff Schwartz. Tune in each Sunday morning
at ten am Eastern. They'll take you all the way
up to kickoff on Fox Sports Trader the iHeartRadio presented
by Bett MGM crack. I know usually we talk NFL
with you, but tonight Texas is a sizable dog to
(21:41):
Ohio State. Who do you like?
Speaker 7 (21:44):
Hey, Doug, you know tonight's game. I'm trying to find
someone that doesn't like Ohio State. I mean every person
I know, and that usually is a bad time, as
we know, of got to check the book maker. So
we'll see what happens for I actually a very rare,
a very rare money line. I actually played on this
game Ohio State minus two ten. It was two ten
up until yesterdaypped, but last night, even midnight. I've seen
(22:07):
it when I was home. I kind of like Ohio
State in the game. But well, I'll tell you, like
I said, I fucked the multiple bookmakers and everyone is
betting Ohio State and that that's usually a bad sign.
So they may not cover the six, but I just
hope they they win the game. Like I said, it's
pretty strong six here, even though our sponsor bet MGM
(22:27):
up to six minus fifteen a couple six and a
half out here in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
All right, let's get to a Saturday's game, Chargers taking
on the Texans. This one's in Houston. Indoors. Forty two
and a half is the total, and the Chargers are
a three point road favorite.
Speaker 7 (22:44):
Yeah, you know, I thought the Chargers were really I
didn't think it was going to be a three point
favorite here. I knew the Chargers are going to be favorite,
but three downsed a little too strong, not giving used
to no home respect there. Obviously there's there's coaching there
that said that's a big advantage for the Chargers, And
in general, Houston probably didn't look that good down the
(23:06):
stretch there, even even versus Tennessee, which I was actually
surprised they actually were, you know, struggling there for a bit.
You know, they did pull ahead, but I probably lean
to the Houston with the three points. But yet it's
not nothing strong. You know, these games are all pretty efficient.
These lines have been up for a while, and you know,
(23:27):
when the cameras are focused on these teams, it's really
hard for the public to get an edge or even
the pros, like I said, to get an edge. You know,
I do a lot of my betting early in the week,
usually Monday morning or Sunday night, when the lines come out.
But they only have a couple couple of games to
focus on the bookmakers so they can. You know, they
get a pretty good grasp on these lines. However, coming
(23:48):
up here, I'll have something for you one of these.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
I think Bill Krackenberger is joining us here on the
doug out leave. So let's go to the nightcap on
Saurday night. Pittsburgh struggling against playoff teams late against Baltimore.
Baltimore's a nine and a half point favorite, totals forty
three and a half and there's supposed to be snow
in the forecast.
Speaker 7 (24:06):
You know, this is an old school division rival game here.
They played twice this year. Pittsburgh won the first one.
The second game Baltimore won by I think seventeen was
the final score, and I'll just tell you the probably
could have won by more in that game. I have
been anti Pittsburgh the second half of the year, even
though pre flopp at the beginning of the year I
had Pittsburgh Shielders underseason wins. I actually lost that lost
(24:29):
that bet, however, I bet as the season progressed, I
bet under so I actually did cash a ticket there too.
This particular game, though, I'll just tell you, man, I
can't lay the points here. There's a couple tens dog
twenty here in Vegas. I would more lean to that,
(24:49):
but however I still didn't. I still didn't do it.
Do I think Baltimore wins the game? Yes, So that
means probably a good teasing situation. Now you'd have to
play a seven point teaser, which means take the nine
and a half down, through the seven down, through the
three down to two and a half. Like I said,
I probably put that with the Buffalo side, but I
(25:09):
know that a lot of people have done that. There's
a lot of teaser protection lines. As that means is
the juice is much higher than it used to be
on these teasers. But I could see Baltimore winning the game.
I don't like them to lay that. I don't like
Baltimore minus all those points. You never know this back
door garbage touchdowns at the end. The Pittsburgh coach there
(25:29):
as a veteran also, and he just seems to do
well in spots like this, so cover wise anyway, but
I would say Baltimore money line there, and it just
sounds like a sucker bet, someone like Bill Krackenberger even
saying that. But I would say Baltimore. Maybe in that
teaser is not a bad bet.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
All right, let's get to Sunday's game, Denver taking on Buffalo.
Buffalo is an eight and a half point favorite in
the totals forty seven and a half.
Speaker 7 (25:53):
Rookie quarterbacks here and don't do well in the first round,
don't do well in the playoffs. So I like Buffalo
this game. Again, not laying the points, putting it in
some kind of a moneyline parlay or a teaser. I
think Buffalo should should handle Demver in this game.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Okay. The next game is Green Bay, Okay, where don't
have Jay Year Alexander for the remainder of the season,
and then last week he had a big injury right
where you lose Christian Watson, who's the third in the
wide receiver but can really take the top off off
of a defense. They're taking on the Eagles. They've had
(26:33):
injuries of their own. Eagles are a five point favorite.
This is a rematch of the Week one game in Brazil.
The totals forty five.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
And a half.
Speaker 7 (26:40):
You know, and now we all knew that Hurts was
going to get through the concussion protocol, of course, but
you also have the other side of the game where
you have some injuries too, And you know, I like
the kid. I really do want green Bay, but I
like the quarterback. However, I think Philly again. You know
how hard it is to go into Philadelphia and beat
them at that stadium. I mean, this is don't forget.
(27:02):
This is one of the toughest places in the world
to play, especially playoff wise. The weather over there is
not going to really affect green Bay as much as
some other teams warm weather teams that would go in too. Philly.
I do like Philly in this game. I have Philly
to win the NFC too, So I have a little
bit of a you know, a bias there, but I
think Philly can get the job done against green Bay,
who's had a green Bays had a fantastic season, went
(27:25):
above the season wins of ten and a half wins.
They actually beat me there on that bet. One of
the only two really futures I lost. And I'm pretty grand,
pretty good in futures from like nine and two, but
that's one of the ones I lost. I had green
Bay under ten and a half wins, they had eleven.
I think Philly gets the job done here at home.
And really, like I said, real tough place to play
there the link. Don't forget they throw snowballs at Santa
(27:46):
Claus There.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Washington taking on Tampa. Tampa's a three point favorite totals fifty.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
Tampa Bay at home here. This is another situation where
we have a rookie quarterback. Even though I like this
kid Daniels, I really do no bet on the game
for me. This is going to be one of those
ones on Sunday night to watch and enjoy the game.
I think Tampa's got a little bit too much offense
for them, though, I think Tampa gets the job done
here to be a fun watching.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Okay, let's get to Monday night. This game was just
moved to Arizona. Minnesota is a two and a half
point favorite against the Rams totals forty eight. It's in
the Dome in Glendale.
Speaker 7 (28:23):
That's a shame for the Rams. They had the home
fans there in LA and now they have to move
the game to Arizona. You know, people just all of
a sudden they see the one game by Donald and
they say, oh, of course we knew who Sam Donald was.
Let me just tell you you had a great season,
just one bad game. They don't forget they were in
that game ten to nine. They were losing to Detroit,
(28:44):
and until they fell apart a little bit there in
the fourth quarter. Minnesota had a hell of a season,
fourteen win season, great season, probably the coach of the
year O'Connell will get I like Minnesota in the game
only because they got no respect. It seemed like after
they lost last week is all people come on talk
about is how bad Donald played. And then the Vikings
(29:05):
are done. They're not gonna do nothing in the playoffs
after we've seen Detroit beat them up there. I kind
of like Minnesota in this game, but I look more
towards the money line, and now that they're not playing
in LA, I kind of like Minnesota a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Okay, there you go. There's all of your picks. If
you like Bill Krackenberger.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
If if you.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Don't, you just fade him. I mean, you do whatever
you want. You should listen to You should listen to them.

(30:28):
Hey buyer, I think you're the perfect guy to ask uh.
Pretzel hierarchy. Had this discussion with a bunch of people. Okay,
pretzel hierarchy. You have the pretzel rods, you have the
pretzel sticks, you have those big, thick like sour dough pretzels.
(30:50):
You have the regular kind of old school regular pretzels,
and then you have the pretzel minish. These are all prepackaged,
buy at a store, go ahead with your pretzel hierarchy.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Of those, I'd take a pretzel twist probably number one.
And i'd yeah if I didn't say dots played a
role in that, because dots pretzels are the are delicious,
they really are the seasoning, the whole deal. I think
everybody's I think it's become pretty mainstream now, dots is
pretty mainstream.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
But yeah, I think that that has changed the game.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Okay, so that's what number one? Where do you Where
do you go for it? Because the rods to me
are the best, are my favorite. And this goes back
to like I'm really a twelve year old kid, and
it's like smoking a cigar, only it doesn't mess up
your teeth, your hands, and if you don't like inhaling smoke,
you don't inhale smoke. Plus you get a great salt
to rod ratio. Now, if you have it is it's
(31:46):
a lot of pretzel. It's a lot of pretzel, and
it'll wear out your the the inner lining of your
mouth too. With the salt, you know, like if you
have it over there, like your like your Cagney, you
got hey, you see, I got my my pretzel. She
But but I do enjoy a good pretzel. Do enjoy
a good pretzelright? Well, think about that. We'll get back
(32:07):
to it. Let's get to the press.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
The press.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
I didn't throw in chocolate covered pretzels, which are delicious.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
These pretzels are making me thirsty.
Speaker 8 (32:17):
Yeah, do we have to get back to pretzel talk
or can we just leave it in the rear view? Well,
we can leave it there, we can golden pot, Sam
or Jason want to get it on pretzel talk?
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Was soft pretzels on that?
Speaker 2 (32:33):
No? Because I mean that's like an unfair fight. That's
like an unfair by aunt Annie's or Wetzels Pretzels and
you don't want a pretzel doesn't mean you have to
buy one. And you don't want a pretzel. I don't
know what's wrong with you. Yeah, Like you walk by
that and I'm just like a butter and salt, old
school soft pretzel. It's amazing.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
I like the pretzel sticks are fine, but yeah, too
many of them? And yeah, your mouths all torn up?
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Okay, go ahead, Dan the Rams are saying they've sold
thirty five thousand tickets to their playoff game Monday now
in Glendale, Arizona against the Minnesota Vikings after their home
game had to be relocated because of the fires in
Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Yeah, I mean so secondary. I think playing in Arizona.
I don't know why they didn't play in Vegas unless something's
going on at the Dome. I don't know about in Vegas.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
Jalen Hurts has been good from concussion protocol. He'll start
against the Packers on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Well, that's good. I think that's gonna be the game
of the weekend. I know that you're fired up about
that that Denver game because you think Denver's defense is
outstand which I.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Think it could make it interesting. Yeah, I did not
think so. He just kind of said, now, Buffalo Bills
win big. Moving on the case.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
But I think that Pittsburgh Lion is that's too big.
I don't I don't think that's a blowout.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
I don't think a lot of people have any common
evidence in Pittsburgh. And I would also say, again it's
Steelers Ravens a decade ago. Is one thing I don't
think seeing this for the third time is something we
want to see. Also about Pittsburgh, I believed in them,
Oh you did, Yeah, I did. I actually I thought
(34:16):
that they were more of a defensive team and Russell
Wilson would be able to give them enough. But down
the stretch they just they couldn't beat any good team.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Yeah, he's just gonna do it. I said. I believe
several times this year that I didn't think their quarterback
next year is on this year's roster. I still believe
that to be true.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
My partner on Sunday, Carrie Rhad, says, now, seeing how
the season turned out, they should have just stuck with
Justin Fields and got more of an understanding on him.
But I just figure, you know what you have with
Justin Fields.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
I think I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy are and talks
on a new contract.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
So it looks like McCarthy's going to be staying in
Big d.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
I'm not really surprised. And when your quarterback comes out
that a fuston praise, I just don't understand that. Jerry
Jones like, well, talk to him, and then you're like, well, actually,
I'm not allowed to talk to him because your son
said I can talk to him.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
I think that's the point of it.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
That's funky too, is this goes on for that long
and you end up you do bring him back. So
what was really the point of the last couple of
weeks and the point that was brought out by I
don't know if it was Ian Rappaport or Pelli Sero
or who it was, but the Cowboys staffs contracts likely
would be out as well, so they would be free
(35:34):
game for anybody that's looking to make changes and they
could go elsewhere. So the Cowboys actually kind of have
to make sure that they get everything in order so
nobody leaves or does anything.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Off of the current staff. Are you guys keep in mind?
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Are you guys up to speed on land Man? On
on Paramount? Did you see all the scuttle butt this
week after Jerry Jones?
Speaker 2 (35:55):
I thought Jerry Jones was great, great on it was
that a real story how they got the money to
buy the Cowboys?
Speaker 5 (36:03):
I think it is.
Speaker 7 (36:05):
I'll mean a lot of record.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Yeah, I've not seen land Man yet. I've heard a
lot of good things.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Really good, really good. Now, Like, look, it's basically a
Texas Oil like Permian basin version of Tombstone, not Tombstone sorry, Yellowstontone, Yes,
including the same theme music, same thing music.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
There's a golf course in Nebraska called land Man that
is very very popular. I think their tea times actually
sold out already for the upcoming season. But one that
is very very popular. All right, let's get to the
real details. Raven's quarterback Lamar Jackson named the Associated Press
All Pro First Team Quarterback.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Receiving thirty first place votes.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Why is this important, Well, it has been more than
twenty years since there was a second team All Pro
quarterback that actually won the NFL MVP award, And that
was kind of on a technicality, if you will.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Steve McNair and Peyton Manning had to share.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
MVPs to share the MVP that year, so Manning was
first Team All Pro.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
McNair ended up being second Team.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
Nineteen eighty seven was the last time that the NFL's
MVP was not the first team All Pro quarterback John
Elway was MVP. Joe Montana ended up being the All
Pro quarterback. So, if history tells us, could that mean
Lamar Jackson is going to be your MVP? Since he
(37:32):
was named first team quarterback. History tells you, yes, I
am not sure that's the case, though.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
I think he'll be the MVP. Here's my question to.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
You, did Lamar will be Yeah? Okay, yeah, here continues.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
Here's my question to you. At what point, and I
know that the MVP of the regular season is not
the MVP of the season doesn't mean your best player,
but like, if they don't do well in the playoffs again,
at what point does it make all of those MVP
awards just seem so hollow?
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Yes? I think now, I think this year, Yeah, I
think that's the case.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
That's fair. It doesn't have a great defense this year,
but he's had a great defense and they haven't performed
in the past. So we'll see.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
That.
Speaker 6 (38:15):
You get out there and pressed.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
That was the.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Press, Daniel, confident your boy's gonna win to night.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
I hope so dog fingers crossed.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Don't want to just I think it's gonna I think
it's a great game. Texas Covers Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox
