Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio. You know you're in

(00:21):
the Doug Gottlieb Show. We like to talk about sports.
But when you say sports is like you tell people
what's your show about? Like, I don't know sports ish.
Here's what I mean. This is from Pro Football Talk
YouTube in Fox face the termination of the agreement on
August twenty seventh. August twenty seventh, that's tomorrow and tomorrow

(00:44):
by the way, like Oklahoma State plays tomorrow. I think
we know it's stay Tuesday. What day is today? Gotam?
So today's Tuesday? So they play, So tomorrow is the day,
but the games are start Thursday. So interesting timing, right,
interesting timing. Interesting. Here's the quote from you to TV.
If we're able to reach an agreement with Fox by

(01:05):
August twenty seven, twenty twenty five their content. If we're
unable to reach an agreement, their content may become unavailable.
If this happens, it'll impact channels like Fox Broadcast Network,
Fox News, Fox Sports, as well as any library recordings
you have from these channels. Right, so if you've recorded
any of these that could go away as well. If

(01:27):
the channel is not available for extending period of time,
subscribers will receive a ten dollars credit. Extended is not defined. Okay,
So remember Fox won't have NFL games until September seventh,
so they got some time. But the college games is
a really big part of the platform, especially you got
what Ohios Date Texas and Big Neon Kickoff that's Saturday
at noon. Fox doesn't have a big platform national NFL

(01:50):
game until Week two, that's when the Chiefs host the Eagles.
I'm sure it'll be done by then. This does feel
like every year on repeat. I'll take you back. You know,
we had Mark Shapiro on the show last week. Mark
now runs the companies that own UFC and WWE. And

(02:16):
you know when Mark was at ESPN, they used to say,
you're not never allowed to say the word a la carte.
I was like, well, that's three words. Can't say any
of them a la carte. And back then the cable
bundle was everything. ESPN had over one hundrellion subscribers. They're
charging over six dollars a subscription that six billion dollars

(02:37):
made before any ad was sold. Those were the glory days.
Now they have in the sixties, they're charging a little
bit more. I think it's like eight dollars. But you
do the math. You can't overcome the law that loss
of subscribers and get you back to the level of
six billion or eight billion or whatever billion dollars. Right.

(03:01):
So we have these streaming companies and how many streaming services.
We joke with Ilo about how he bootlegs them. Jace
do how many streaming companies do you employ?

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Just all of them? All the majors you know, I
don't know, Hulu and Netflix and Prime YouTube TV, all
the majors.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Really, Peacock, Copple, TV.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Peak, Couple TV, Apple, Peacock.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Paramount, MGM plus Reereamount plus HBO Max.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
No.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Our point we're getting at here is this is ridiculous.
This is ridiculous, Doug.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
No, I know it is. I know it's ridiculous. My
question is you pay for all of those?

Speaker 2 (03:42):
I do?

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yeah, so what's your monthly TV cable bill?

Speaker 2 (03:47):
I haven't looked recently, but I mean, just doing the
the quick math in my head. Maybe what.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
It's crazy.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
That's what I wanted to bring up because for the
average intensive sports fan, who let's say, for the average
Fox Sports radio listener, an intentional sports fan, is the
combined amount of all their subscriptions, how does that compare
with maybe what their cable bill was, say five years ago,
when it was a different landscape.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
It's gotta be higher, right, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
YouTube TV started in twenty seventeen. February of twenty seventeen,
it was thirty five dollars a month. It's now eighty
three dollars a month. WHOA, So I pay for YouTube TV.
I don't buy all the service, as A'm joking, but
if you buy YouTube TV, that's eighty three. I do Peacock,
which is now gonna be thirteen a month, so you

(04:42):
know you're almost at one hundred there, and then I
do let's say, I do Amazon Prime, that's what's seventeen
a month. I do Peacock, and I do Netflix.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
I will say this, Sam Lotte, you do have to
change your password to something more complicated than go Hawkeyes
across the board.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Oh okay, I will, Isaac. But I'll let you know
when I change it so you can keep using my service.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Now, I'm gonna I'm gonna say a word that I
think you guys know, but it's a bad word in
TV streaming. Anybody have a friend with the jail breaker?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
I actually have heard of that.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I don't know if it's always called a jailbreaker. Everybody's
a different name for it. But there are these you
can buy these like little boxes connected to your TV
and literally get every channel, every streaming, every event, everything.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
That sounds like some early nineties technology, Like there's somebody
working in the cable industry and they're like, yeahll hook
you up, give me one hundred and fifty on the side.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Yeah, you get it. You get everything, You get everything, everything,
everything and things you don't want. Well, I don't have that.
But I don't have that. I'll tell you what I have.
I have YouTube TV. And I think I I got
YouTube TV because I needed like basic, you know, local channels,

(06:01):
and then I went a red zone and had both
and I was like yeah, whatever, and so yeah, it
was like eighty five bucks. I was like, well that
seems like a lot.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
But internet you need you need to pay for the
internet to power the YouTube TV. So it's well, it's
like one hundred and fifty well over a hunt h.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
But then you convince yourself that, well I had to
have the internet anyway, right, so that's not really a
TV expense. But you're absolutely right.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
But with cable, it's like you have you know, it's bundled.
You have the cable, maybe you have Internet, and then
the cable package that they give you is right there.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
So yes, but on all these shows you can't get
unless you stream.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
I know.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
It's it's maddening, it really is. And then with this,
you know, I'm looking at the football schedule coming up
on Saturday, and you know the Albany Great Danes are
going to Kinnick Stadium to play Iowa, And what game
is that channel on? It's on FS one. This happens
every year, just everything, It just depends on the network
every and it's maddening.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
It's frustrating every single year, to.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Be honest, it's been two years. Uh, last year was
ESPN and this year's Fox.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
No. But I'm sure, if we went back there was
a channel. It was probably NBC the year before that.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Right, it seems like it's one of the major networks
and it's come to a standoff. It's on, it's at
a standoff with some streaming provider, some streaming platform.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
I bet jay Stu if you googled, you know, like
standoff or whatever. I I don't know how you would
google it, but that there was somebody there. This is
this is a yearly thing.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
I think you're conflating DirecTV directory of the same thing.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Though, Oh okay, you okay, you're talking about YouTube. Okay,
you're right, Okay, you're right if you if this is
just YouTube. My point is the standoff that that that
butts up to the beginning of football season and sometimes
costs us a chance to watch a game.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
It's the media equivalent of an NFL preseason holdout.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yes, that's exactly what it is. It's exactly what it is,
and it's like it's a lot, it's almost it's the
exact same thing. It's a hold in because you still
get your channels right now, and they're like, well, we're
gonna throw it off if you don't, and you know,
eventually they're gonna agree to a deal. Nobody just walks
from a deal.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Well, they get consumers involved. They turn one side, will
turn consumers.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
You know.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
It'll be like, uh, direct TV customers call up your
you know, tell them you want ESPN and you it's
like they they turned they turn you on, you know,
on the other side. And this is what they do.
They get people to complain on Twitter or or cancel
their service.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Might be I think I think this would be. This
is one where Fox may have a bit of the
upper hand. I don't know this, but I mean, can
I I'm gonna hypothesize for a second. Okay, why did Jase,
why'd you get you to TV?

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Because at the time it was free now free, but
at the time it was cheaper, much cheaper than cable.
That's how they drew us all.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
One, right, And then what did you get as a
benefit to Like, what what do you watch on YouTube? TV? Now?

Speaker 2 (09:12):
All the news channels okay, cable news channels that I
watch a lot of sports. It's good for sports. I
get my Bachelor got to watch it live because I
have a podcast called the Lifestyle Podcast.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
So what if that goes away for a week? But
you got to watch what what do you do? What's
your possible outlet?

Speaker 2 (09:36):
I think that there's I go to my son who
has a Spectrum password, and I watch Fox Sports on Spectrum.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
In perpetuity or or in cana.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
You fill the gap. You know that all of us
will have our gap plans, you know.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Yeah, so, but the question is when does the gap
plan become the main plan?

Speaker 2 (09:59):
And that's what that's why what YouTube TV will fear
in the okay.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Then yeah, in this case, I actually think that's a
legit fear because you know, if you're if you're doing
it for red zone, ESPN gets red zone? What next
year doesn't get it this year? Is it this year?
Next year?

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Yeah? This all it's all after this season.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Yeah, So the question is can you find red zone
for a year? You know? Is what do you do
for the college football games in the meantime? But this
one is one where Fox is going to have their
own streaming service, ESPN is gonna have their own streaming service,
and ESPN streaming services also include red zone. If I'm
YouTube TV like, I probably cave on this one and

(10:42):
get people signed up and try and extend them beyond
next year. When ESPN takes over Red Zone, because it
will substantially devalue whatever red Zone package you have, because
then if you just pay for the ESPN, you get
the red Zone as well. What's crazy it is? And
this was the big concern initially from cable companies and

(11:06):
from the espns and the Foxes was exactly what happened,
which is streaming. They'll come in at a really low price.
But what's really it's evolved into it's way more expensive
to have all these streaming services than it used to
be just have cable. And the reason that people pushed
away from cable was they thought it was too expensive.

(11:29):
Now they say, well, yeah it was too expensive, but
I also couldn't watch my favorite shows that a la
carte programming that everyone feared would undercut based upon price,
the competition actually costs way more money, way, way, way
more money. This is Doug outleb Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. For forty years, Tyreck has been helping customers

(11:52):
buy the right tires for how and where they drive,
ship fast and free back by free broad ass protection
with conveniencelation options like Moubile tire Slation. Tyrec talk how
the way tire buying should be. I'm not a betting man.
I do gamble occasionally, but I will bet a substantial
amount of money to Texas and Ohio State is available
on YouTube on Fox Sports Just a Guess, Just a

(12:12):
just an educated guess.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
It's the Doug Gottliebes Show Fox Sports Radio. Do. I
was gonna tell you guys, we have our guys getting
up at early and running every day. So they ran
a five k today with the cross country team on
our cross country track. I saw that, yeah on beautiful

(12:47):
day story. Yeah yeah, that was great.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
Looked like high school conditioning for yeah, across country.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yeah yeah, So they did a five k tomorrow we're
doing It's a big hill in town, Baird Hill. So
I've been told that no one has ever done a
team has never done the hill without somebody throwing up.
So we're looking forward to that, looking forward to that.
Travis Kelcey and Taylor Shift are engaged. I'm sure by
now you've done that, and I'd like to congratulate Jase too.

(13:18):
He may have coped this thing very early on, probably
three months, and he's like, you know what, I kind
of think there are a couple, but yeah, it's the
whole thing is fascinating. I heard Jason McIntyre said, here's
the sign, fellas, take your shot or whatever like there is.
I don't know if that's what landed her, but you know,

(13:41):
telling people I'm going to the concert, I'm making her
a bracelet or whatever, like there is something bold about that.
I don't know if that's the story you want to
tell your kids of just me mom was performing and
you know dad made a bracelet with one of her
songs and told the world on radio in a podcast.

(14:04):
I don't know. I don't know, but that becomes like
the biggest power couple we can think of. Right, There
is a bit of an imbalance and that she's a
super superstar, but you can't be her level of star
and not have some sort of star as well. But
I mean, she just he pales in comparison to her startup.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
But don't you think he's also really good for her
because he's kind of he's a he's like a more
of a normal guy. He's a football player, like, he's
won what three Super Bowls, Like, he's a big deal himself.
But I don't know who you could find around the
world who would like match her her level of celebrity.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
It would have to be some movie star, music star,
I know.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
But then the guy might he might be weirdo.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
You know.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
I think Travis Kelsey's just like a cool He's a
cool down to earth bro right up her rally.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Yeah yeah. I also think my I don't know if
he's listening, but I mean he's been married for twenty years.
He's happy, so I'll say so. My college roommate, he
used to have this thing for female lead singers. If
we were we were out in Stillwater, Oklahoma, or we're
in Oaklholm City, or he's from near Joplin, Missouri. We

(15:16):
go out there, go to Tulsa and we'd been at
a bar restaurant and there was a female lead singer.
He's like, Hey, I got to meet her, Like, dude, what, Yeah,
I just I have a thing for female lead singers.
There is something about that powerful woman who can control
the room. And there's no more powerful woman in music
than her. Jayse dude does it last, he stops playing football,

(15:39):
she continues to be as start as it last.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Oh man, I'm the wrong guy to act to ask,
but to predict this relationship, I would guess no, because
most celebrity relationships don't last. But I've been wrong on
these two. The one takeaway that I had when they
did when she did the what is it Into the
Heights whatever it's called. When she did the pod cas,
my one big takeaway was how genuine they were together.

(16:05):
They seem to be like new in love. You know,
that kind of annoying new love where you're holding hands
and everything the other person says is like the greatest thing,
and you're hanging on every word this. They're like eighteen
months in and they kind of looked like that new
love and I don't think they were acting. So I've like,
maybe they will last, and.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
They got a shot. Sam, what's your prediction, it's it.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Would be easy for me to agree with Jason. Yeah,
a lot of these celebrity marriages don't last. I'm going
to say that they do. I'm gonna say that they do,
HM because I think at the end of the.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Day, his parents are still her parents are still married,
are her parents still married.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
I don't know, but I think they both They just
both strike me as good marriage material, like you can be.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Good marriage material. And still doesn't know, I know, I don't.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
I just I don't know. The hard part for last
a while.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
The hard part for Travis is going to be when
he's not playing football, because I'm sure the original plan,
you know, he did reality shows whatever, some sort of
acting celebrity, and maybe that maybe he just be you know,
he's on TV and that that fills up his cup
and he gets his amount of attention. But you know,
and I'm sure that right now it's really refreshing where

(17:19):
she she takes up all the auction room. There sometimes
within relationships that can be problematic. I don't know, I
think it's pretty cool thing. Did you guys see this
from Adam Adam Rittenberg that Colorado announced that Ralphie the sixth,
It's live Buffalo mascot named Ember, is retiring because of
an indifference to running, which contributed to decisions The school

(17:42):
is is training Ralphie the seventh for her debut, but
the team will take the field without its live mascot
in the interim. It's one, it's one of the greatest
traditions or maybe not greatest coolest traditions in sports, right,
But it's fascinating to watch because you're sitting there going,
at what point in time is that buffalo going to

(18:03):
realize that those ropes don't do anything, They're just there
for show, right. It's it's like the do you guys
remember the Far Side?

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (18:13):
Gary Larson?

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Oh? Yes, the Best Chase? Do I know you remember
the Far Side? Right? Far Star Fireside cartoons? Sure there
was a there's a Far Side cartoon. My brother still
he has the Far Side books at his house and it's, uh,
two bears and one bear is talking to the other
bear and he's looking at his pause and he's like,

(18:35):
I'm gonna say, Jimmy, Jimmy, do you think these claws
are meant for just picking berries? You know? And so
Ralph this Ralphie doesn't want to run anymore, right, I
ain't running, new Ralphie. She's supposed to run, But again,
will she understand, like, hey, just go in a circle
and don't run anybody down? That's crazy. Rich Ornberger joins

(18:59):
us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Are you a fan of live mascots at college football games.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
You know what, I've never really considered it, but yeah, yeah,
I actually I think I think I am. I think
that having a buffalo on the field or a bison,
I'm not sure if the buffalo is an extinct animal
or still with us, but having having a buffalo run
around the field, I think that's that's kind of a

(19:28):
cool trick, as long as you're treating them humanly and
all the things that we're aware of and you know
all that. But yeah, I think that's kind of unique
to college football. It's a part of the tradition. It's
kind of fun.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, I mean, LSU has a tiger, but he doesn't
leave the cage. Bevo the Longhorn does doesn't do much,
but got some impressive horns. There's lots of different dogs, right,
George obviously has Ugga whatever. That last Rebelly is the
dog for Texas. A and M just annoying, never stops barking.

(20:00):
Ah just it's just like A and M fans like, yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
They've never stopped. Part to be they never stopped.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Let's let's get to some NFL football with Rich Warburg,
Rich Bears end up Bears, Brown's end up trading Kenny Pickett,
So it's Flacco and then you got Dylan Gabriel and
Shador Sanders. Remember they still have Deshaun Watson's trying to rehab,
probably haven't played this year. Uh, what are your thoughts
on that decision to trade Kenny Pickett and stick with
the two rookies.

Speaker 5 (20:28):
Look, when you have a veteran presidence in the room
who is a proven winner, and not only a proven winner,
but across the league and on the team. You know,
Joe Flacco performed extremely well in this offensive season very
or this offensive system very recently, so there isn't a

(20:49):
lot of concern about whether or not he's going to
be able to tow the line and work with this
staff and understand the assignment. He's been a bridge quarterback
in the past. He knows what if feels like to
try to obviously compete for a starting role, but knowing
full well where he is in his career, and there
is a possibility that based on his play, he could

(21:12):
be handing the responsibilities over to a younger player at
some point. I don't know how likely that is or
unlikely that is. I don't know how he's going to play.
Nobody can be a fortune teller here, but I think
at some point, you know, because the rigors of the
NFL in a seventeen game season, we're destined to see

(21:33):
one of these two backup quarterbacks. And that's going to
be a fascinating situation. Is it going to be Shador?
Is it going to be Dylan Gabriel? Will there be
a backup battle? So to speaking in Cleveland, it's going
to be one of the most interesting non starting quarterback
battles in a very long time that we're going to
all be participating in. Until we have answers to that question.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Yeah, I mean, I actually, again, everything is how you
look at it. The third string quarterback is generally the
scout team quarterback. It's a great opportunity to improve because
you're actually playing right, whereas the backup quarterback is more
of getting the starter ready. Is that Is that a
fair depiction of how it usually works?

Speaker 5 (22:15):
It absolutely is. A backup quarterback is probably amongst the
quarterbacks that we're talking about, is going to get the
least amount of reps. So the direct backup is going
to take a lot of mental reps. You know, obviously
your starter you're getting him ready for Sundays, you know, Thursdays, Mondays,
whichever day of the week you're playing. The backup quarterback
is taking a lot of mental reps and visualizing things

(22:37):
and helping the starter through some of the mistakes that
he may make throughout the practice week. Meanwhile, you know,
back on the farm, your scout team quarterback is getting
you know, big reps against your starting defense with the
scout team. And you know, look, as we know, the
twos in the NFL are heartbeat away from being ones.

(22:57):
There's a lot of talent on that scout team team
and they need to operate an offensive system each week
to prepare the defense. And you can get a lot
better at the pro level on the scout team. That's
where a lot of development happens. So whoever is the
third string quarterback, it may seem like a hampering at
first in terms of, you know, their availability to jump

(23:20):
right into the game, but it also may help along
their development. So we'll see who the Browns you know,
choose choose to start the season. My guess, Flaco. We'll
see who the Browns decide to make their number one backup,
and we'll also see if they're splitting reps between the
backup quarterbacks on the scout team and if they're going
to keep that battle alive.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Rich Horberger's our guests. He's a pum NFL lineman. He
hosts a daily show in San Diego. You hear him
every weekend on Fox Sports Trade and Countdown to Kickoff
every Saturday. Right here on Fox Sports Radio, rit Rich,
let's bounce around a little bit. What Terry McLaurin back
with the Commanders. Not really a surprise, I guess the

(24:06):
question is can the Commanders take another step? They surprised
a lot of people last year, but sometimes you get
that sophomore slump. What's your outlook for this team?

Speaker 5 (24:17):
Well, my outlook for the team is the vision is
still a hard division. Now, I understand you look at
the Giants and maybe the state of the disrepair that
the Dallas Cowboys are in, and you say, well, how
different is it from last year. Well, there's a new
sheriff in town in terms of quarterback in New York.

(24:38):
We'll see how that all pans out for the Giants
and the Dallas Cowboys, I think from a town standpoint,
are still a dangerous team. And then, like you said, now,
there's a full season of tape on Jaden Daniels, who
had a standout season as a rookie, but can he
repeat that success. They're going to be playing against a

(24:58):
much harder schedule this year. This is going to be
a very, very different season from a lot of different
standpoints for the Washington Commanders. I'm not going to say
that anything was gifted to them. I think they earned everything,
and I think putting a lot of trust into you
know who turned out to be a very quarterback ready
or excuse me, NFL ready, pro ready quarterback in their

(25:19):
rookie last year was a good choice. But it is
very difficult to replicate success at the NFL level for
two reasons. One, Obviously, sustaining in the league is a
real difficulty, especially when you're a mobile quarterback at that position,
that can become an issue. Two, let's face it, these

(25:40):
defensive coordinators are really, really talented, and that's the reason
why they're on pro staffs. These guys are going to
dedicate nights and days and sacrifice time with their family
and weeks preparing for each individual opponent. Daniels kept a
lot of coordinators up late at night during the season

(26:00):
last year, but you're reacting on the fly come game week.
Now you have a full off season to take a
look at what happened, especially these indivision opponents. Life's gonna
get much tougher, and we'll see how he responds.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Mich Ormberger is our guest here on the Doug Outleab
Show on Fox Sports Radio. What who won in the
Trey Hendrickson hold in, Boy, I.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Don't think anybody wins. Be honest with you, and maybe
that is the correct answer to a good negotiation. When
when everybody walks away feeling dissatisfied, maybe that's that's the
ear mark of a good negotiation.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
I sort of feel like the Cincinnati Bengals are notoriously
cheap organization. I mean, boomer assized him was talking about
how when he was inducted into the Ring of Honor,
uh that he had to pay for his hotel, room
and flight. You know, you're you're you're you're you're you
are who you are, and your players will respect you

(27:04):
based on your level of commitment as an ownership or
a franchise. And free agents they're watching. So when a
great free agent becomes available and they see the way,
especially on the defensive side of the ball, with them
being as loaded up on the offensive side as they are,
and understanding some of those contracts that are coming to
you know, their willingness to go over to Cincinnati and play,

(27:26):
you know, in Middle America, cold Weather City, not necessarily
one of these coastal spots that people are excited to
play in like Miami or the two teams in LA
or the two teams in New York. I mean, very
different mindset going to Cincinnati. Is that something you want
to do with this franchise? And the answer for a
lot of available free agents, especially on the defensive side

(27:48):
of the ball, may say no. So you got to
be careful how you present yourself to the rest of
the league and it's players when you enter contract negotiations
with a player. So you have to round back to
the way I answer the question. I don't think anybody
wins this. This feels close to the initial offer for
the Cincinnati Bengals, per Tray, and in terms of the Bengals,
I don't think it portrays them in a favorable light.

(28:10):
For the rest of the players in the NFL, I.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Agree with you that the only contrast to that with
the Bengals is they did pay everybody else, they just
didn't pay this guy and they're paying them thirty million
dollars for a year. It's nothing beyond beyond this year.
It's just the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Who's a team we should be talking about? And I
say that rich because I mean, we try not to be,

(28:37):
but we still get. The Micah Parsons story lures us
into talk Cowboys, the Shador Sanders thing lures us into
talk Browns. These are not championship teams. Nobody thinks they are.
Who's the best team we don't we talk about the least?

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Yeah? I think it's the Patriots, and I think it's
because of their recent history ever since Brady left and
then obviously things falling apart at the end of the
Belichick era and bouncing back from a draft pick that
didn't work out and moving on to Drake may a
year ago with Girod Mayo at head coach. I think
the culture has been stabilized with Mike Rabel there is

(29:15):
one hundred percent an adult back in the room at
the coaching position. And this is no shade to Gerrod Mayo.
I think he's a tremendous coordinator in the league, and
I hope he gets another chance at head coach because
I feel like sometimes the second time around, you can
take some of the failings or the mistakes you made
the first time around and turn those into successes. So

(29:36):
I do hope he gets another opportunity to take a
spin on that roulette wheel and there's only thirty two,
you know, spots where that ball can fall. But getting
back to Rabel and Drake May, I think in this
league you need to have two positions with special talent
in order to win at any level, you know, especially
at the playoff level, and that is a great head

(29:58):
coach and a great quarterback. I think Drake May is
a burgeoning great at the position. Will he be a
top ten guy?

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (30:05):
I mean, we'll see. Do I think he can be
a top ten guy?

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Yeah? I do.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
I'm impressed with what I've seen from him so far.
And then in terms of Mike Rabel, we've seen him
do really great things with much less talent at quarterback
than he has currently in New England, and he's got
a really good defense. From a personnel standpoint, I think
the New England Patriots is a team We're.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Not talking about enough awesome stuff. Rich Hornberger. You can
hear him every day in San Diego, or you can

to Isaac Lohencron and the press.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
The press, all right, Doug, Rookie Shador Sanders officially made
the Cleveland Browns fifty three man roster, and we'll serve
as the third string quarterback behind starter Joe Flacco and
backup Dylan Gabriel. According to head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Uh yeah, listen, it's gonna be really interesting to see.
Can can Kevin Stefanski just coached the team and not
have the noise of the third string quarterback? I mean,
I look, I think we all have. It's really interesting.
Like Shador Sanders probably has more top end talent than

(32:27):
Dylan Gabriel. Dylan Gabriel looks way better as far as
getting rid of the ball quickly, you know, seeing it,
throwing it, moving within the moving up in the pocket.
But this is I think trading Kenny Pickett was not
the plan. The plan was the draft one. Probably Dylan
Gabriel making the third string. Kenny Pickett is the backup,

(32:50):
and then if they could get Gabriel along, maybe a
third string quarterback gets them through for a couple of
years while they reload the roster. If they don't, well,
now they go and draft somebody with their two first
round draft picks next year. Okay, so that plan changed
when they drafted Shador Again, the question is can they
still get to the plants or can they win with Flacco?

(33:11):
You know, the great thing about Flacco is he knows
who he is. He knows who he is.

Speaker 4 (33:17):
NFL media reports that the Los Angeles Chargers are moving
running back Naji Harris from the non football injury list
to the active roster. Harris missed training camp and the
preseason due to an eye injury sustained in a fourth
of July fireworks mishap.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
That's crazy, right, Oh yeah, I mean JPP and him,
they're the two most known NFL players and they're dealings
with with fireworks. So when will he play Week five?

Speaker 4 (33:48):
I don't know. I mean, if it was injured reserve,
it would be a minimum of four, So I think
anytime in the first four weeks they would they would
you know, consider a w.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Yeah, nuts, I thought when that story first came out. Yeah,
the agent statement said nothing to worry about, he'll be
back for camp. Actually, are you to say that we're
not supposed to trust what agents tell us.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
Actually, I do have some audio of that statement. Unfortunately,
all right.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
To see here, very good.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Well, they are coming out with a new naked gun.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Right, it's it's been out for a few weeks.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
It's any goodbody seen it.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
I've heard it's great.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
I've heard it's great.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
But I'm too really, I'm too cheap.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
I saw f one. It was really good.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
Oh good, Okay, really good good. New Orleans Saints head
coach Kellen Moore announced that Spencer Rattler will be the
placeholder for Arch. Sorry, he announced that Spencer Rattler will
be the starting quarterback for the Saints. Rookie Tyler Schuck
will be the backup.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Uh well, I mean listen, Tyler Shuck did he played
like seven years in college. He'd been injured a ton.
Those are two guys with interesting journeys, both really heavily
recruited guys. Rattler was the one who got replaced by
Kayleb Williams three games in they went to South Carolina,
had a good career, been a league for a year. Yeah, like,
like we all know this is this appears to be

(35:23):
all smoke screen. Let's just get through the next year, right,
just get through next year. On the other hand, here's
one he is a former Oklahoma quarterback, right, and so
you got Baker Mayfield in that division. Sure, what happens
with Carolina is interesting? Oh yeah, there's there's there's a

(35:46):
team that I think they're very good and we never
talk about, but still interesting.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Mm hmm. I think with Carolina the most interesting things
still a year later, is that, remember what's the what's
the name of their head coach?

Speaker 4 (35:58):
Exactly?

Speaker 2 (35:59):
It's Dave kN Dave Canellis. Remember after he got hired,
he came out and he said that he had like
a devastating porn addiction. And I'm like, how are we
just learning about this? Why isn't that brought up more?
I did not Fox Sports announces him on the football
They should have that in the notes.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
Oh my gosh, I never heard of that and I
just googled it right now and infidelity and not only
is it true, it was announced on January thirtieth, twenty
twenty four. So boy, you want to you want to
talk about slipping out of the cracks. The book entitled

(36:39):
and by the way, this is unfortunately considering the top
news of the day. The book quote titled this marriage
question mark the question that changed everything. Unquote boy whatever,
that'll be on the reading list of some recent engaged people. Anyway,
all right, boy took a turn. Final item on this

(37:03):
edition of the press. You could always count on Jason
for those kinds of keep.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
It keep us steady here, Isaac, keep us afloat all right, don't.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
You might?

Speaker 4 (37:12):
This might be the time where I slip up.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
All right.

Speaker 4 (37:15):
So for some of our younger listeners, the given name
of Babe Ruth was George Herman Ruth, So keep that
in mind, because a sixty nine year old Tennessee man
named George Herman Ruth has been indicted on ninety one
counts of mail fraud, identity theft, and other charges for
allegedly using the names of hundreds of deceased and retired

(37:37):
Major League Baseball players. Justice Department claims that George Herman
Ruth located pending class action lawsuits and fraudulently used the
names of hundreds of deceased or retired players in an
elaborate nationwide scheme. George Herman, ruth the Great Shambano.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Yes, that's a real story.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
That's a real story, Babe.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
How do you that's like too smart. I couldn't even
understand how to do that.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
It's like catch me if your can stuff.

Speaker 4 (38:08):
Yeah, I guess he called his shot. Heyo, he was really,
he was, really, Babe, ruthless. All right, that's the press bag.
Get out there and pressed. That was the press.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Well, the Dodgers must have won, because no no whining
from Jasu. Back tomorrow. Check out the podcast doug out
