(00:27):
wout you Dog Got Lip Show, Fox Sports Radio. I
hope you're having a great day man on an awesome
sports weekend. Huh. I just say this, um, Boxing is
a curious, curious sport, right, because guys that are built
like Deontay Wilder in this country generally are playing you know,
(00:48):
a tight end of the National Football League, or they're
playing small forward or even power forward in the NBA. Right,
guys six seven and he was carrying two thirty seven,
but he's really more of like a to ten to
fifteen Like this, this is not we don't usually have
boxers like that in our country. It's like, like like
soccer players. We could dominate soccer if we took all
(01:11):
the cornerbacks in the Nation Football League and you had
him trained from the age of like six to play
soccer like we dominated everything in soccer, like we got
we got the best, all right, But I Deonte Wilder changed,
you know, his cornerman. He changed, he trained, he put
(01:31):
on weight. It was a tremendous fight. He just not
the boxer of Tyson Fury. Tyson Fury is a boxer,
born and bred boxer. That's what he does. You know.
So you have an athlete who boxes and it's got
an in got incredible power, versus a boxer who boxes
(01:52):
and is as big or bigger than Tyson Fury. And
when you're and he's leaning on him, and he knows
all the tricks of the trades, like to seventy. Imagine
if you were too two thirty seven and somebody two
seventies three to seventies leaning on you. Jason, did you
buy it? Did you buy the fight? I did not
(02:12):
buy it. I did not watch it. I just watched
the highlights and read all this stuff afterwards, Ramos, I
did not buy it. I just saw Twitter talking about it,
so I followed it there totally fine, Uh buyer? Did
you were you a buyer? A hat trick? No? Did not? Okay,
basically what you missed was was awesome I mean, you know,
(02:32):
it's like you hate when two guys in the ring
they just hug each other, they dance around, or the
Mayweather stuff where he gets a lead and then nope,
he knocked him down, really and Wilder knocked down twice
in the third in the fourth round and then after that,
like he was he was a little unsteady for a
round or two there I'm talking about Tyson Fury, but
after that he was just not me. God, he hits
(02:54):
like he's got cement bricks for his hands. I mean
you can feel it on TV. Giant Man, that one
didn't let you down. And for whatever reason, you know,
we're paying our monthly cable bill or your streaming bill
ever you watch the NFL, when you you tune in
to watch a game, you don't really you don't think
of the financial ramifications in boxing because the pay per view.
(03:16):
You're like, man, the fight sucks, Like that fight suck?
Why did I do that? The Dolphins are the opposite.
The Dolphins were the team that I thought this was
a year in which they're gonna start to really turn
it around. And it's not just that they're one in four.
The bills thirty five nothing after they beat the Patriots
first week and season like, okay, lose the Raiders, she loses.
(03:39):
The Colts are juggling quarterbacks and then non competitive against
the Buccaneers. Here's Brian Flores after the game. I'm concerned,
like we're out of sync. You're in a lot of ways.
You know, we're just we're just a little bit of
step behind. I would say, So, you know, we gotta
make a lot of corrections, a lot of things we've
got to address, and we've addressed some things, but we're
not we're not seeing a production on on Sundays, and
really that's all that matters. So yeah, I would say, well,
(04:01):
we're a little bit out of single. Like they change
offensive coordinators. They went out and spend some money and
spend some draft equity and got Deffort better wide receivers.
Jacoby Brisset, who's a really solid um, part time starter,
was fine. Flores is supposed to be the defensive guy,
and that defense was non exist in terms of getting
(04:22):
after Tom Brady. And look, the Buccaneers are good. They
have really good players, really good and really good players.
And Brady was in a rhythm and he was amazing.
But it was men versus boys. I don't know if
I was gonna put together a list of the most
disappointing teams in the NFL to date, teams that I
personally had expectations of. Who are um, who I'm I'm
(04:46):
down on? Now? You know, this far into the season,
I didn't think the Chiefs should be two and three.
But I think the Dolphins, in terms of how they've
lost these games and how non competitive at times they've been,
that that's probably the one that jumps out at me
the most. You know, the Seahawks are two and three,
but Russell's hurt. The Niners are two and three, but
(05:06):
Garoppolo's hurt. The Rams, who people don't seem terribly impressed
by at times because they've some of the games they've lost,
or when the game they lost to THEIRS on the Cardinals. Therefore,
and one, they couldn't be that team. I can't think
of a team that you could classify as disappointing outside
of the Chiefs at two and three, more so than
the Dolphins at one and four. By what were your
(05:28):
expectations of Miami? Yeah? I thought Miami was a playoff
caliber team. They won ten games last year and added
more talent, and we thought drafted well and got to
a back. We thought that they were good enough that
drafting Jalen Waddle with the first with their first round
pick was going to be and not that it was
(05:48):
a luxury pick, but they didn't need to address any
needs like they they had Davante Parker. They signed Will
Fuller in free agency and then they added that, so
like they must have felt good about everywhere else that
they had on that team to make that pick. Mhmm.
That one surprises me, stew Would you would you think
Jay in terms of the Dolphins or if you could
(06:11):
find a Chiefs would be the only other one in
which you could say disappointed that. The one thing about
the Chiefs is, you know you they did beat the Ravens, right, Um,
the Chiefs have had a really hard schedule and you
don't ever feel like you're gonna bury them because of
the quarterback that they have and the Winds. E give
(06:31):
me the lost the Ravens by one, lost the chart.
They've been relatively close games. Um, now they have Washington
and Tennessee on the road before they get the Giants
and then the Packers at home. But I I think
it's the Chiefs have been competitive, the Dolphins have not,
and the Dolphins are coming off a ten win season.
(06:52):
It's kind of stunning. Floora is the guy who everybody
thought was was gonna be a dude. Did a good
job in the New England as their defensive coordinated before
he left, and he's done a good job in terms
of everything he's done and how he's acting, who he's
put together. And you know, people don't say there's a
poorly coach, but he's right. Something's missing with that football team.
Is he easy to say a quarterback? Yeah? Sure, but
(07:14):
remember they trade away a first round pick to Philadelphia
this past offseason. It's like we all think, like, oh,
it's no problem, they're gonna trade for Deshaun Watson. That
changes this team. Okay, the team is not that good,
and then you're gonna have to trade a bunch of
quality assets in order to get Deshaun Watson that doesn't
as opposed to Philadelphia, who has three first round picks. Doug,
(07:37):
let me know if I'm wrong on this one. Right
last last year, the narrative was that the Dolphins are
kind of playing over their skis that there? Uh what,
what's the what's that metaphor that I don't want to mix,
you know, the the they're better than the the whole
was greater than the some other parts. Um. So I'm
not sure why we should be too surprised about this,
right if they're if they're kind of just playing the
(07:58):
way we probably thought that they would have played last
year in a funky COVID season. Um. Were the expectations
that much greater coming into this season? Yes, yeah, they
went out and spend a lot of money. They you know,
we thought year two under two. Um, but it's also
a belief in in floors. And it wasn't that they
(08:19):
lost yesterday. It's that they got blown out. It was
that they lost a Buffalo. It said they got blown
out like non competitive. That game was a complete and
total uh no contest. That's what I think jumps out
at you more than anything else. I think we looked
at the rebuilds arriving sooner than expected last year, like
(08:44):
that's why there were expectations this year, because we thought
this rebuild was maybe ahead of schedule, and now, as
it turns out, it may be behind schedule for what
the Dolphins are. And I looked at even to us
to suation Doug with how much that has been in question.
(09:04):
I felt that the Dolphins should have should play out
the season to see what t is because of how
good I thought the rest of their team was. Now
you're you're in in the boat of I almost think
because the team isn't as good, it actually puts to
his job more into question because you're gonna be asking
the quarterback to do more's something that he can't do.
(09:26):
So it's this weird reversal of fortunes with the Dolphins
about finding out really who they are and how they
are going to move move forward. I gotta find out.
I gotta figure it out pretty quickly because this is
as buying floorers and said, this is just it ain't
working right now, and it's it feels like a little
like a stunner. Maybe our expectations were too great, Maybe
(09:47):
we're over selling the record. Last year, they do have
the Jaguars the Ultimate Get Ride game and they play
him at home. Then they got the Falcons, so you've
got to which you should win. And now you're three
and four, your back being stable, you got Buffalo on
the road. He's still got the Texans at home, like
they have a they have a stretch here of three
or four, four or five at home Giants as well,
(10:10):
where uh they should be okay, they should be okay,
they have Actually, this is crazy. I don't know if
you guys saw this schedule. I don't know if any
of these games. Um, I don't think any of them
are London, right, Well, they're in London next week next week,
so the Jackson Ones in London. Okay, So the London
then Atlanta at Buffalo, Houston at home, Baltimore at home
(10:34):
at the Jets, Panthers at home, Giants at home, Jets
at home. Like those are. There's a bunch of winnable
games there. But if you don't get to it, soons
have the Have the London pubs been warrnant that Urban
Myers come into town? Or very nice? It's nicely done, excellent,
well well done, well done. Be sure to catch the

(11:19):
Um more, on every Monday at this time. We um
mentioned that I don't hate to say I told you so.
Everybody on message the chicker cha paray like what because
he had talented finally nailed at gotlib here. Here's the thing.
(11:40):
I've you take a beating on Twitter anytime you miss
a pick or two. And so when you have good
weekends and you have six winners on a weekend, you
feel pretty good about it. You know you want to
like dance around the room and shake your booty in
the face to people who are down on you for
taking the over in the Red River shootout. Look, Texas
(12:02):
has really been scoring of late. I'll tell you what
I like in this game. I like the over sixty
three and a half, and I've been killing the under
in some NFL games. But in college football, I think
we'll hit the over here, Texas o U sixty three
and a half, take the over. Welcome, Welcome now. Ohio
(12:22):
State was playing Maryland and uh Maryland gotten blown out
by Iowa at home the friday before, but a lot
of US Tornover's huge number three touchdown line. I do
remember telling you about Ohio State. I don't know if
the Buckeyes have figured it out. They smashed Akron, they
(12:43):
smashed Rutgers and Maryland. It's hard to tell just how
far behind they are when yeah, they lost to Iowa,
but they had a seven turnover performance. The big thing
is that Maryland lost their best wide receiver, Dante uh
the Muse Jr. He heard his knee. So you got
blown out by Iowa. They are headning't down the road
(13:04):
to an Ohio State. Team was trying to impress people.
They did not look ready for a real fight in
terms of their playing, their execution. I like Ohio State
Ohio State minus one. Now this one I won't. I
think I didn't call the win. But we're on in
Boise and I I like this Boise club. I mean
(13:27):
it should have beat Central Florida probably should have been
Oklahoma State did lose the previous week to Nevada, but
I thought they'd be close to b y U. I
thought they'd least cover B y U undefeated. This is
the beginning of a ridiculous run again. You know, they
beat Utah State, beat Arizona State, beat Utah, beat Arizona.
They got Baylor and Wazoo next. B y U is
(13:50):
a six point favorite. I like boys to keep it close.
I do. I don't think there's an athletic mismatch here.
Boyse obviously showed the ability to score. I like the
defense better than they played last week against Nevada, although
playing an altitude U does give me the hebe geebs.
I like Boise and there are new home wind Boise
(14:11):
to cover. Now, remember I also do the NFL here.
I don't hate to say I told you so, I
told you so. The Browns overwhelmed most teams with talent.
I don't think they overwhelmed the Chargers with talent. Now,
the defensive line is outstanding, I mean really outstanding. But
(14:32):
if you watch the Chargers against the Raiders, they did
a great job in the screen game dump off game
to the tight end. I like the Chargers to win
and cover the two gonna keep riding the Chargers. I
just didn't play. I like that because that does. The
defensive line was was banged up and it was a shootout. Um,
everybody was down in the Steelers. This is the NFL,
(14:54):
and I felt like it was a game made for
the Steelers to to pop the Broncos, and they did.
I think the Steelers beat the Broncos. I do. I
think the Steelers beat the Broncos. Yes, Big Ben's days
are absolutely numbered, and Vig Fangio is an outstanding defensive
coach as a head coach. But Fangio, you've got a
(15:17):
problem with quarterback Drew Lock last week twelve hundred thirteen
yards and interception granted against a much better team than
the Steelers have been Steelers at home, Steelers and desperation mode.
Steelers get to win one point? Dog, give me the
Pittsburgh Steelers. Uh, And then I think might I mean, like, look,
(15:39):
who could have predicted all the missfield goals? But I
did have the Packers winning and covering. I'm more in
on the Bengals than other people are. Packers have a
tendency to overlook some teams like this. They were dominant
against the Steelers, but it wasn't as dominant on the scoreboard. Still,
I'm gonna take the Packers to cover the three point
line if you can get it two and have you
(16:00):
feel even better about it. I think the Packers win
on the road. Alright. So tonight Monday Night Football, Ravens
seven half point favorite against the Colts over under his
forty six and a half. Again, here's how I do
my over under in my my brain is like, all right,
if you think it's you know, twenty seven and a half,
it's like, all right, if it's twenty seven twenty one,
(16:22):
that's what it would take to get to the over
for the Colts um and they would that would that
would cover the number buyer? What do you think Ravens
minus seven a half over under forty six and a half?
Which side you like? Oh, well, I'm gonna take the
Colts tonight, and I don't think they're gonna win, but
I think they'll cover, and I will go I will
go with the under. Now you don't, just just so
(16:42):
we understand, you don't have to go over under. I
just I think it's more fun when we do both.
If you're like, don't have a feel for it, that's okay,
Ramos Baltimore minus seven. I'll take the Ravens and they'll cover.
I think they went by like ten ten to fourteen tonight. Okay,
over under? Um, Well, I'm sorry, I I didn't hear
(17:03):
the over under. I might tell me what it was again,
the over under forty and six. I say it's below that. Okay,
what do you think they're above or below? That's that's
under und blah between the shoot gambled like this before
(17:24):
I say, I say to ten Ravens, so under, um,
I too like the Colts here to to cover. I
like the Colts and I like the under Colts. And
the under is the number do I do? I. I
understand that the Ravens have played a bunch of road games.
I understand that you give him an extra day off,
but the Ravens have just not been um there are
(17:47):
three one records. I feel like it's a little bit deceiving. Now,
if we're fair to them, you know, if we're fair
to them, you open up the year with the Raiders
on the road, but they haven't played for a t
that's been as good as they've been. And I know
they played the Chiefs, but the rest of their opponents,
I don't think our playoff teams, I just don't. Um.
(18:07):
It gets real after this hard to tell. I'm just
gonna take the Colts on a whim. I think seven
halfs the big numbers seven, it was six and a half.
I'd probably take Baltimore, you know, anywhere in the fours
or fives, seven a half. I'll take any to cover.
And I think this will be the under free agent,
didn't have the free agent uh uh money that he thought.
He resigned in Pittsburgh. Now he's out for the rest
(18:29):
of the year. Joel Clatten joins us. Of course he
was in Iowa City for the uh uh the dominant
performance in the last it was like three quarters by
Iowa's defense. Obviously, when you knock out Penn State's quarterback,
it was a different game, but still dominant performance. Iowa wins,
and it was an incredible day in college football. Joel,
how are you? I'm good man, How are you doing good?
(18:51):
How would you you know? Uh? I was shooting up
the rankings. They're beating everybody there. On the other hand,
you know, Penn State loses their quarterback. How good do
you think Iowa is now you've seen him in person
a couple of times. Well, I think that they probably
would have lost the game as Sean Clifford's healthy. But
this is part of the sport. You know, They've knocked
out a couple of quarterbacks, They've had opponents bench their
(19:11):
starting quarterbacks, and you know, I think that part of
the beauty of Iowa is that they are so tough
on opposing quarterbacks. So while I I loved the game
plan from Penn State. I love the way Sean Clifford
was playing both throwing the football, by the way and
running he was he was still there leading rusher on
the day. Um you know that Iowa defense is just salty, man.
(19:35):
And I gotta tell you their ability to recognize and
then run the route for the wide receiver is you're
doing a great job. Pointed out by the way to
watching at home, that was really It's good TV. I
really appreciate it. I appreciate that, and I mean I
appreciated what I was seeing, right. I mean, you know,
(19:56):
I'm sure you get that in basketball all the time,
when you just see it so fundamentally sound and and
something done so well, that's that's Iowa's team. And then
I think something that maybe flew under the radar was
just the the effect and the the quality of the
job of their punt team. You know, Tory Taylor, what
he was doing penning Penn State down into that ten
(20:18):
yard line was exquisite. Um Ira, Kelly Martin dives down there,
the backup running back bo by the way, he had
an a c L in December, and he chases a
ball down that's clearly going in the end zone. That's
it back. So Penn State starts with the one. That's
the reason that they score the touchdown. Because if here's
the deal, if Iowa has to drive the length of
the field, they never get the winning score. I hope everyone,
(20:39):
I hope I communicated that, like, if they don't get
a short field, they are not going to score the football.
That's just the way that the game was going. That's
how well Penn State was playing on defense. So that
play by Ira Kelly Martin, the backup running back as
a gunner on the punt team, basically won the game
for him. What it was crazy was they got the
ball back with two and change to go, and you
know they you know they they do they go to
(21:03):
victory formation and then they took a knee. I had
never seen that before. It was like Waterboy. I was
like the waterboy type of stuff where their best offense
was there punting in their defense. It was. It was wild,
and I mean, I know it was an indictment on
what was going on the other side. And and if
you're Penn State, you've got to be devastated not only
(21:24):
that that you lost and you you blew the seventeen
the three League. But also, you know, and that's a
good coaching staff, it really is. James is a heck
of a coach. But they had no plan after Sean
left the game. None, that's that's a problem. They didn't
have a plan for the crowd noise, They didn't adjust
quick enough UM in particular with all those false starts.
(21:47):
So you know, as much as Iowa did defensively, they
were helped out, But what I felt like was really
poor execution on the Penn State side from their staff.
You've called the Red River rivalry UM a bunch of
times with Fox, and that game was I mean, I mean,
just nuts. Right. They pulled Spencer Rattler for a for
(22:10):
a freshman quarterback who didn't play high school football last
year because it was shut down, I didn't play, and
he comes in and lights the fire. And then how
would they bring Spencer Rattler in for the two point conversion?
They get it, They get it. The whole thing was.
So I was sitting I was sitting with Gus Doug.
(22:31):
Obviously we're in the booth, right, we're getting ready for
our game, and we're watching that game, and he looks
at me and he was like, why'd you back in,
which I'm sure is the feeling of most Oklahoma fans.
I'm sure people were texting themselves. I'm sure Twitter was
a buzz everything. But here's the deal. The backup quarterback
(22:52):
never takes the two point reps in practice. I'm I
am certain that Caleb never ran that concept. Maybe once
in his life. Maybe he raned a couple like in
a scrimmage and fall camp. Maybe, And those are so
specific to game plans. You work on them for like
ten minutes on on a Thursday, and the starter takes
(23:14):
all the reps. No, like backups don't even really from
the offensive line, or like those are such specialty plays.
The backup quarterback never takes the two point reps in practice.
And I'm I am convinced that Lincoln thought he had
no other option other than like, this is the guy
that practices these plays. He's got to go and execute him.
And to his credit, he did. That was not an
(23:36):
easy throw. That was a tight window to Drake Stoops
and he fitted in there. That's a big reason why
they won the game. What do you do if you're Lincoln?
I think you gotta stick with Caleb don't you. I
mean that was I think it was pretty clear. I
think that there has something been amiss with the offense.
I tried to do a big video breakdown a couple
of weeks ago after they were chanting for Caleb. I
thought it was more offensive line base because I thought
(23:58):
Spencer was a type of player that you know, was
was an elite level quarterback. And I still think he
is from a talent perspective, but there's something wrong with
his ability to operate that offense. Now it got it
got worked out late last year to the point where
they were playing really well. But and I think it
might have to do with the fact that he's just
(24:20):
not a threat as a runner. And and even Baker,
while he wasn't a runner, he was enough of a
threat as a runner. And then clearly Kyler was, and
clearly Jalen was that just that threat. He helped their
run game be more dominant, and their rushing numbers were
down to a point where the play action pass wasn't
as effective, they weren't as explosive as an offense, and
(24:40):
everything was just not quite as easy. Then you put
in a guy that clearly has that threat, even if
it's marginally or or significantly above what uh what Spencer
brings and then you immediately see the effect of that.
I mean, so I think he's got a stick with Caleb.
I think that they're probably a better offense. And I
hate to say this, and I don't recommend it, and
(25:02):
but Spencer's probably looking for a program after this year.
In this new age of transfer in college football. What
happened Alabama? Alabama had as poor of execution and play
calling inside the five yard line as I've seen them
having a long time. And you can blame the defense
(25:23):
all you want, and the defense is not as dominant
as what they have been in the past. In fact,
I went back and looked at the stats, and you
know that the last time Alabama has given up over
twenty points per game in the season was Nick Saban's
first year in two thousand and seven, and then ever
since that, it's been below twenty points per game that
they've given up. And only in the last three years
that they've actually been outside the top ten in the
(25:43):
country and scoring defense or twelve and thirte in the
last three years. Well, now they're forty and they're giving
up twenty two points a game. So it's easy, it's
really easy to say, well, that defense is not what
it what it used to be. And while that's true,
the problem is that when you watch the film, they
absolutely should have won the game with the defensive performance
that they put on the field. The offense was in
(26:04):
position to secure a couple of different scores inside the
five yard line and didn't. They had a first and
goal inside the five and the second quarter, they had
a first and goal inside the five yard line in
the fourth quarter, and they came away with total three
points out of those two series. I thought that the
play calling was horrific. The play design was horrific. Let
me give you an example. I know it's really difficult
(26:25):
to just picture this, but if you picture this, Steve
Sarkesian and Lane Kiffin, what they were great at with
Alabama is creating movement before the snap. The movement with
these great players and the speedy wide receivers that they have,
they would bunch them up, they would create motion. And
what that does is that puts an immense amount of
pressure on the defense. Who wants to play man coverage
inside the five. That's the predominant coverage that at Him
(26:47):
was running on some predominant covers that defense runs. And
the problem is, Doug, if you just sit there and
your static and your offensive set and you don't have
movement in motion, you're not putting any stress on the defense.
They can set their feet and they can cover one
all one. Then if you're not going to motion and
do all that, you've got to rub the routes off
of each other play and some sort of mesh. And
(27:10):
they never did that. Here's the example, third down, third
down and four third and goal from the four yard
line in the second quarter. They have a basic of
like a trip set tight end slot receiver, wide receiver
on the far side, and then a single receiver down
at the bottom. And it looks like they're gonna run
what I would tell him like a cross route, what
I would call him mesh route over the middle with
(27:30):
the tight end to the right and the wide receiver
rooms to the left. But they didn't mesh. The tight
end just runs across basically one yard deep into the
goal line and the and the wide receiver looks like
he's going across, then he stems up to run the
end line. So they're creating levels in their structure of passing.
And their spacing of passing. That's for the zone. You
(27:52):
can't control the levels of defense against man number one,
and certainly not inside the five yard line. I was
thinking about thought, what kind of a plate hall is this. Meanwhile,
on the other side, the two wide receivers are not
bunched and they don't rub at all. There's no mesh
on that side either. They just have a little break
route and the other guy runs a fade. I was like, well,
this is horrendous. He tries to fit the ball to
(28:12):
the tight end who's running the crossing route with no mesh,
and the defensive player makes a great play, albeit with
with no influencing factor in terms of trying to get
around another route, and he picks off the ball, so
they don't get any points. You come back down in
the fourth quarter and they run similar things and then
the execution falls apart. So then they do bunch up,
they do run mesh routes, and the timing is all
(28:34):
screwed up. Tight end runs into the wide receiver because
he goes too soon. On the other side that the
mesh route runs too late, so there's too much space
in between him and the pickman and the defender runs
right through it. Alabama's execution was awful and the play
calling was terrible too. Yeah, so we put on Della
Ryan certainly the first series, and then when he corrected
it with better play calls in the second series. Like
(28:55):
I was talking about, in the fourth quarter, the players
execution was really really okay. So maybe it's use I'm
not sure. But and and this is where if you
can't do that, run the ball like Robinson is running
the ball really effectively, And I have no idea why
they abandoned the run and those two instances. Uh. In fact,
(29:17):
the fourth quarter first and goal inside the five day
throw it three times and kicked the field goal. They're
Alabama doug through it three times and kicked the field goal.
I feel like I'm watching SMU so um. I saw
your rankings, and I guess my problem with it is,
I know they got beat but as you pointed out,
if you watch the game, like god, they should have
won that game. And an A and M is is talented, right,
(29:39):
I like Calzada hasn't played well, and maybe it's not
as good as you know the initial starter, but still
and and M thought this was gonna be their year.
And them losing twice before that doesn't change the fact
that they have talent. Still, um, you know, Obama could
have won the game. So so what what's the real rankings? Like,
like how do we really because it's like you said,
(29:59):
like Iowa I was defense is awesome, but their offense
is not very good. Like I can't see them. I
just I can't see them scoring. I don't feel comfortable
putting I I saw Iowa play. I doesn't feel comfortable
putting them at number two, right, Like I don't feel
comfortable with Cincinnati at three. I don't feel comfortable with
Oklahoma ahead of Ohio State or Alabama. I don't feel
(30:20):
comfortable with any of it at all. This this the
top ten is I hate it. I hate putting that
out and I just do it every week because it's,
you know, it's something that the fans expect and I
try to do do my best, and it's some combination
of what you've earned or what I think would happen
if you played on the neutral field. Because I was
(30:42):
even sitting there, like, well, who do I rank ahead
of each other? Is it Alabama or Ohio State? Well,
Ohio State looks better right now based on what I
just saw Alabama do against Texas A and M. But
the loss at Texas A and M is a far
better loss than losing at home to Oregon, I think,
based on what we saw after Oregon lost Stanford. But
Michigan hasn't lost. But I still don't think they're better
than either of those teams. And Oklahoma hasn't lost. But
(31:03):
are they really better? I'm telling you. I saw your
tweet and I was like, yeah, I get it. I
totally agree. People people are like this is these rankings suck,
and I'm half way like, yeah, I know, but I don't.
But I don't know what else to do with them.
I don't either. I don't either. I mean, I think
it'll all play out, but man, it's just it's like
(31:24):
it's like all those Big Ten teams ranked at the
top and like, okay, but I how the state ends
up being the best Big Ten team and they lost
to Oregon like Michigan hadn't really played anybody. I don't
know what to make a Michigan State. They look melt
Tucker has done a really good job, but again, I
don't know how good they are at the top end.
It's just it's it's fascinating with how do you actually
ranked teams when you watch the SEC, Like, well, George
is better than everybody, and you think Alabama is and
(31:46):
then they lose. But like if you watch the game,
I had plenty of chance. I don't know. It's a
it's a tough one and and it's a year in
which and I think you probably deal with this in
basketball way more than we do in football. But the
COVID eligibility rules have really thrown a wrenching because the
teams that are normally developmental teams are playing better this
year because they have the benefit of super seniors, the
(32:08):
sixth year COVID senior, where we don't never normally have that,
and the and the programs that normally don't have even
fifth year seniors don't have the benefit of those sixth
year COVID seniors. So they still have these guys in
their first three years about ready to go to the NFL.
So the gap at maturity and experience between the programs
that are developmental programs and these programs that are blue
(32:30):
ship programs is really vast right now. Yeah, it's it's
everyone else's feeling like they're b y U. Right, most
years where they're throwing out dudes and their wives and
kids are in the stands. Never ever scheduled B y
U in the non conference? Well why is that? Because
they're all grown men, all grown man. Joey, You're the best.
Thanks for joining us. Be sure to catch the live
(32:53):
edition of The Doug gott Leaps Show weekdays at three
p m. Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio a app. I saw this stat
sinces remaining seven opponents You ready for it? Remaining seven
opponents in college football s m us five and oh
the other six combined seven and twenty one. Wow, it's
(33:18):
gonna be a tough sale even if they finished undefeated
with that one win over Notre Dame. Let's uh, let's
get to the press. The press, damn buyer runs down
all the topics in the world of sports. We get
you out and get you on your way. Re reiterate
our Monday night football picks. May pick a little baseball
night too, is uh. I don't think we're gonna have time, dog,
I got a jam packed press here. That's all right,
(33:41):
that's alright. We're supposed to have four games today. It's
only gonna be three right now because the White Sox
and Astros were postponed. Braves top the Brewers today three
nothing on Jack Peterson's three run home run, a pinch
at home run in the fifth inning, So the Braves
are up to one, raising Red Sox coming up with
a little over an hour and then tonight Giants and
Dodgers from l A. The Dodgers have Max sus are
(34:02):
on the mount. Alex would going for the Giants. Albert
pool Holes starting at first base for the Dodgers tonight.
Why because because Alex wood is left hand I believe
that would be the case, John J have somebody, can
somebody run for him? Watching albertool run is a painful
experience you like, but but he can hit and good
(34:27):
for a single his hands on got great hands, TiO
pooh Holes. I like him a lot um. What about?
What do you guys think about tonight? Wasn't great in
the wild card game? Has had full rest? Are you
feeling about Suser? Has not been great in the last
three starts if you go back the last couple in
(34:49):
the regular season. So I'm not too high on Suzer,
but I am high on the offense. Having turned it
around around the sixth inning of the last game. I
think we're good. Now tell me if I'm wrong, boys
dodgeable ways, wasn't one of the reasons pool Holes signed
because they're terrible hitting left handers. Um, I wouldn't say that.
They just wanted an extra bat and he was available.
(35:12):
I understand. But traditionally, like in previous years, wasn't hitting
left handed pitching one of their issues? That is correct?
This has been an issue for them, maybe not this year,
but in years in the past it's been an issue. Um, okay,
So that's that's that's gonna beke. And of course they're
facing um you know their face here we go. So
(35:32):
here we go against lefties against left cikes. Yeah, Pools
hitting three oh three on base three the numbers chops
you know, obviously Max mnths missing Max Munc. It's a
different team without Max in the lineup. He led led
the team with ten eleven home runs. But Pools ten
home runs versus left hand pitching. The other one is
(35:53):
justin Turner. Obviously ten home runs versus left handed pitching. Alright,
what else you got byre Doug? The Chiefs not only
lost to the Bills, last night. They've also lost running
back Clyde Edwards a lair for about three weeks according
to the NFL Network because of a spring mcl Tyreek
Hill had a knee issue. He should be able to
play in week six. Also at Travis Kelsey leaving the
game with a stinger. You know, so the Chiefs are
(36:15):
a bit banged up at two and that was that
was a hit on Travis Kelsey. That was a That
was a thumping he took. What a hit. Yeah, the
the it looked worse at first, but then when you
saw the slow mo, it wasn't helmet to helmet, but
helmet you know. Still is not good college but but like, look,
(36:36):
if you're all in real quick, if you're Kansas City,
kan City's problems have been on defense. Now, the best
offensive players outside of my homes are hurt. That's not
good College football. Odds to win college football's national championship
are outbetter online saying that George is your favorite right
now at six to five, followed by Alabama at thirteen
to five, Ohio State at fifteen to two, and then
Oklahoma back at sixteen to one. Iowa was twenty two
(36:58):
to one with Cincinnati at one. So yeah, obviously Bama
is gonna have to run the table when the SEC
Championship game against Georgia in order to get there, which
is that's a tall to tall order. It does feel
like this is a year in which, right now, this
is probably the best odds you're gonna get with Alabamas
this week to take them. Ben Simmons could be returning
to the Sixers as suit as this week, according to reports.
(37:20):
Doesn't like missing out on that money, So in protest,
does he shoot every time he getses it instead of
never shooting? Uh? That would be great. Finally, Doug j R. Smith,
speaking of the NBA and transitioning to golf, The former
NBA player, making his debut for North Carolina A and
T and Collegiate Golf, finished an eighty first place out
(37:43):
of eighty four players at the um Elon Phoenix Invitational.
J R. Smith nineteen over par after two rounds of play,
finished thirty shots back of the first place finisher. So
many jokes, I'm just not sure which ones I'm allowed
to make. So I like that he's posting his grades
(38:03):
for his for his test scores, and I like the exercise.
It does show just how good even lower level college
golfers actually are. Yes, And there are still players on
the course, so he could fall down on the leader board.
And the Players Championship PURSA the event in March on
the PGA Tour three point six million dollars for the
winner in two. That's up almost a million dollars from
(38:25):
last year. It's the highest purse for any winner on
the PGA Tour. And I don't know how they how
they do it where it's it's you know, it's the
other it's a fifth major. God, it's a lot of money.
And that's the press. Get out there and pressed. That
was the press. All right. Does anybody like the Colts
to win? I like the Colts to cover. Anybody like
the Colts to win? Uh no, Well, anybody like the
San Francisco Giants to win the game. I'll think the
(38:48):
Giants to be different. All Right, there you go, just
because you hate John Ramas, No that's not at all. No,
you told me, but you told me, don't tell him,
keep it off air. But you've got this kind of
personal with with John. Just tell him that got leave show.
