Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Heres in the Bonus with Doug Gottlieb, Dog Gottlieb Show,
The Bonus Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio app. Welcome in Hope,
You're doing great. Doug Gottlieb Show is broadcast live from
the tyrack dot Com studios. So the Lakers are We're
waiting to see who the Lakers hired, Danny Hurly if
that happens. Meanwhile, the Celtics there are tribal takes a

(00:28):
one game to lead on the Dallas Mavericks, and it's
fascinating to me that I wonder if we'll get to
that point. If you watched last night, the one guy
who could really play for the Mavericks is Luka Donjik.
And you know, it's interesting, as much as we want
to say, we're viewing foreign born players on the same

(00:49):
plane as viewing American born players, and we're in the
moment right or in the moment. But as anyone said, boy,
what Luke has done is to the level of what
Lebron did to get his team to the NBA Finals.
Have you heard one person mentioned that the answer is no, right,

(01:12):
we give Iverson credit for reaching the NBA Finals with
what we look as as a futured roster, although it
was a great defensive roster and Larry Brown as the
coach with the Philadelphia seventy six ers. We give Lebron
James credit for reaching the NBA Finals, And maybe it's
because Kyrie Irving is on this team, but like, let's
just be honest, Kyrie throughout the year is a shell

(01:33):
of his former self. Like Kyrie in most games is
no longer viewed as a superstar player. He did not
have a superstar season. He's had some great games in
the postseason, there's no question, and I still believe that
he'll have there's a great game or two in him

(01:54):
in the playoffs. But the reality is that, and I
don't know how many people actually know this or pay
attention to it. You know, Kyrie during the regular season
was good twenty five a game, good thirty five minutes
a game, only played fifty eight of those games. You know,
this is not a star studed roster. You have Luca, Kyrie,

(02:16):
Tim Hardaway, Junior, PJ. Washington who joined the team obviously late,
Daniel Gafford, Derek Lively's a rookie, Derek Jones like Josh Green.
It's a nice team. It's not a championship caliber team.
And then you see Luca last night and you look
around you're like, man, well, if Kyrie plays, they got
a chance. If he doesn't, they're not very good. But
this roster, in comparison to the Celtics roster, is not

(02:40):
nearly as strong and definitely not as experienced. But we
never give Luca that level of credit. You know, never
give Luca that level of credit. And look, is he
a great defensive player? Absolutely not. Is he a good
defensive player? At times he is not, But he is

(03:01):
a dominant, incredible offensive weapon. Who's it, a better defensive
player than you think. And they're gonna have to change
him the rotations and hide him a little bit. But
you haven't heard anybody say, man, he's doing so much
on his own, much like Lebron in his first NBA
Finals with the Caps. Let's get to what the Fox

(03:22):
says and now what does say every day this time
of the Doug Gottlieb Show in the Bonus podcast, we
played for your portship of a previous show on Fox
Sports Trader or Fox Sports One. Here's Paul Pierce on
undisputed on how the rest of the series looks for
the Mavericks.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
And I don't know what adjustments that Dallas can make.
What adjustments can you make when your superstar player goes
six to sixteen and I'm talking about Jason Tatum in
for two minutes. Yeah, what adjustments? And Dan Jaylen Brown? Yeah,
he was seven or twelve or twenty two points. But
I didn't think he played that well. I think he
played okay based on the standards of what he's been

(03:58):
playing all playoffs. He shot six four, he missed five
free throw skip, a couple turnovers. I just don't know
where Dallas goes from here. Yeah, you can say Kyrie
didn't shoot the ball well ya over threes. Let's just
say Kyrie went three for five from three. Got'll give
him nine points, which would take nine points off the

(04:19):
league was still, which still would have us winning by
covering the spread nine points. So in saying that, I
don't believe Jason Tatum could play any worse. This is
his worst game of the playoffs. This is his worst
game of the playoffs. Six and sixteen, six turnovers and
they win by eighteen.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Where do y'all go from here?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, listen, I understand that Paul Pierce has become super
fan boy. Obviously, we talked about this a little yesterday.
The reality is that Kyri Erving didn't play particular well,
didn't shoot it well. My guess is he'll shoot it better.
And as we've learned from the NBA playoffs, not just
this year, but in previous years as well, just be

(05:04):
careful about getting in love with a narrative of a
series when it can change from game to game. So obviously,
the other part is do we think Christoph Perzingis is
gonna play that well moving forward? The likely answer is no, right,
likely answer is no. So I do think the SABI

(05:25):
series last night was not good for was not good
for the Mavericks. But that doesn't mean that that you
just cancel the rest of the series because Jason Tatum
didn't play well and he's gonna play better in the future. Okay,
well he'll play better. Does Jalen Brown play as well?
Does Drew Holiday play as well? Does christophs Persingis give

(05:47):
you twenty points off the bench? I you know, look,
I was wondering whether or not he'd be sharp. But
the other part to it is you come back and play.
You almost always make shots early. What happens when you
come back for a second game and now you're battling
true fatigue. I don't know the answer to it. That's
why we'll keep watching. This is Colin Cowherd on why

(06:09):
the Celtics gave the Mavericks so much trouble.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
So the one team in the West that gave Dallas
trouble was ok C really had a beat. OKC is
a younger, cheaper, less talented version of Boston. They don't
have multiple guys with all Star appearances, and OKC they've

(06:31):
got a chet Holmgrin, a big who can go outside
and hit threes like Porzingis. They have multiple wing defenders
they can throw at a Luca. So Boston is a
better version of the team that gave the MAVs the
most trouble in the West OKC. So Boston has the ability.

(06:52):
They got four or five guys. They can spread the floor.
Both Horford and poor Zingis. They're bigs, can pull you
outside and hit threes. Horford it's a great three ball
shooter from the corner. And the Celtics have three or
four guys or more they can put out on a
wing and defend your guys and keep throwing bodies at Luca.
So this is a problematic series. I mean, Boston is
five to zero against the MAVs, all lobsided wins. When

(07:18):
Joe Missoula has been the coach. This may just be
a bad matchup for Dallas.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Now.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
I think Dallas will probably play a very inspired first
quarter at least against Boston in Game two because they
played poorly.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, I mean, listen, we're comparing them to Oklahoma City.
They're not built like Oklahoma City. I understand. The parallel
is you have a shooting big in Porzingis as opposed
to Chet Holmgren, so that obviously he's going to screw
up Dallas's rotations. But the rest of the team is
built very, very differently. And again, I just I hate
to sound like a broken record, but here it goes.

(07:57):
This is, without any question, this is going to be
a series that I think looks different game to game
to game. I thought Dallas would play better Game one.
They did not, but it did get to be a
game in the second half before an eight Oho run,
and that aight O run was triggered by Kyrie not

(08:18):
playing particularly ill. Miss A couple shots turned the basketball
over eight oh run. That was basically that. But as
much as we want to say, hey, it looks like
Olhoam City, they're not built with like Oklahoma City, Like
who is there? Who is their shay? So I'm going
to disagree with that parallel, but I will say that
that you know, there was a lot of times in
that game where it looked like there was no chance,

(08:41):
no chance of him really doing it, of of the
Celtics being in any way challenged by the Mavericks. They
were just they looked better, Like man, they look better.
It looked like one of those games where you've see
in the NCA tournm where there's an upset in the
previous round and now that team advances to play a
real team and they're they're just not as good from

(09:05):
from fit to finish. Here's Dan Patrick on what Charles
Barkley may do after TNT.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
But Adam Silver can't say to TNT, you got a
pony up two point eight billion. I need you to
do that so I can keep the NBA on TNT.
It's everybody else's ponied up. TNT didn't. Maybe they get
a few games, but if I'm Shack and I'm Charles
and Kenny and Ernie. That wouldn't be enough to just
stay there. You're only doing a few games. You want

(09:31):
to get that national exposure. And Charles has said that
if he went to ESPN, you know, there would have
to be certain you know, things that are put in
and like clauses into his contract that he's not going
to be overworked when he goes there. And this is
what I said to Jason Kelsey, you got to be
prepared if you're going there that you're going to be

(09:52):
on Get Up and First Take in the morning show.
You're going to be on pet I mean, you're going
to be in the car wash is what we call it.
And I said, put that in your contract, because if
you don't, then they're they're gonna use you. You're gonna get
a lot of exposure. You're gonna get too much exposure.
And that's what I cautioned him. Now he still decided

(10:12):
to go there, but he said that he took into
consideration what I told him. He's gonna be doing Monday
Night Countdown. But Charles, Charles years ago asked me about
ESPN when I was at ESPN, and I said, you
gotta be careful if you're coming in, they're gonna use you.
And you know, Charles decided to go to T and

(10:33):
T and he made the right decision. But you know,
it works for some and it doesn't work for others.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Yeah, I mean again, I also think, in fairness to ESPN,
none of us have worked at ESPN in like a
decade so, and Charles is not coming in at the
level of most guys. You don't see Peyton Manning doing
the car wash. You know, pay Manning does what he
wants to do because he's paid Manning. So I agree

(11:01):
with I agree with him in general premise of how
it used to be. It's it's not that way now.
That's what the Fox said. What I'd say. It's a
Doug Otleab show here on Fox Sports Radio, and let's
welcome in Jared Smith, of course, he's our Fox Sports
Radio lead betting analyst, and we'll get a little bit

(11:23):
to the Belmont, but let's start with the NBA Finals.
What surprised you last night, the total or the spread?

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Well, I think the split surprised me a little bit
because if you kind of scroll back earlier in the
year in the regular season, the Celtics were about a
seven to seven and a half point favorite against the
Denver Nuggets, who were the highest power rated team the
whole year. I think, you know, getting that same price
or even frankly, you saw some books at six six
and a half last night, you were even getting a

(11:54):
better price on Boston than you were against the Denver
Nuggets earlier this year. And I think the reason for
that is too fold. Obviously, you really bump up Dallas
based on their run, and you're probably down Gray Denver
a little bit. But anytime you have a long layoff,
you just don't know if there's going to be one
team that doesn't quite answer the bell. And I think
it was obvious Dallas did not answer the bell last night.
They kind of eased their way back into the game

(12:16):
and settled down. But anytime that the big indicator for
me last night though, anytime Dallas tried to, you know,
raise their intensity level in the second half and got closed,
I think they got up to within a Boston just
kind of hit the engines and said all right, I
see you later. So I don't know if Dallas has
enough again to get over the four out of six
games it's a tall task. Obviously, the odds are huge.

(12:39):
Boston now is a minus four hundred favorite to win
the series. Didn't see a huge adjustment in game two.
We're still seeing about a seven point favorite in game two.
I hear the zigzag theory a lot, right. If one
team wins game one, usually you go back to the
other team in game two. I don't know if I'm
ready to get there with Dallas, but I will say
that if Dallas is in the game on Sunday, I

(13:02):
think that favors the over because we almost got to
the total with a terrible offensive game from Dallas. Luca
had one assist, they couldn't do anything offensively. If Dallas
plays better, there's going to be more scoring. Boston's going
to keep their starters in longer. So I think to
fourteen and a half with the total. If you think
Dallas can compete, I think the over makes sense.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Okay, are there any any individual lines.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
That you like? Well? You did see the MVP odd
shift pretty dramatically last night. Kristaphs Porzingis was like a
thirty to one favorite to win the MVP. He's now
down to about five to one. Do I think he's
going to win the award. I'm not there yet, but
at five to one, I think you're still getting a
reasonable price. I think I'm in the camp now that

(13:47):
Boston's going to win the series, so I think I
can saifically eliminate, you know, Luke and Kyrie, even though
Kyrie now is a really big underdog. But I think
to me with Porzingis, the one thing I noticed was
that Jason Tatum and I said, okay, Chris Daph's if
you're hot, I'm not going to be the aggressor on offense.
And even Tatum admitted after the game he was a
little nervous a little bit has it been so I

(14:08):
think there's a chance Porzingis is the story of the series.
And if that's the case, he's still now the fourth
favorite on the board to win the MVP. Tatum's the
favorite at around even odds. You got Jalen Brown and
Luca around three, around three to one, and then and
then Kris STAPs and around five to one. I think
kristaph should be maybe a little bit higher on that board,
maybe even with Jalen Brown, maybe slightly behind Tatum because

(14:30):
obviously he was the story in game one.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Okay, let's let's get to let's get to the Belmont.
And you know, there's no bit greater risk reward in
television than buying the rights to the Belmont, because you know,
if the Derby winner wins the Brignas, all of a
sudden we got something special. I'd be honest with you,
I have no idea who won the Prignas, Who won

(14:54):
the Prignas.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Shades of Gray or something, touch of gray, something like that.
That horse is not running in the Belmont. You typically
the horse that wins the Preakness, unless it is a
triple crown situation. Typically Actually, I think that Back sees
the gray he is, he is running in the Belmont,
but he's a long shot at eight to one. Right now,

(15:16):
the favorite is the favorite, the same favorite that we
had in the Derby, which was sierraly On. I think
to me that the horse I would look at and
I know that's not a very sexy thing, but it
kind of reminds me of a big So the Derby
was a big upset. Mis mc dan was a huge
of fifteen twenty to one horse and it was one
of those situations where Sierra Leone almost made it back

(15:38):
at the end there and kind of got beat out
by a nose. And it reminds me of an underdog
that you know, makes a big upset in game one
of a series. Typically the favorite will come back in
game two, make the adjustment and win that game. And
what we've seen sierraly on in this case, the jockey
switch that we're going from Flavy and Pratt now is

(15:59):
going to be on is going to be and the
iron Taylor Tyler Gaso Leone was the jockey in the
derby and so the trainer, Chad Brown, I guess this
wasn't too happy with the ride and they made a
jockey switch. So to me, that's the first adjustment. The
second adjustment is it's a shorter course than it normally is,
and that's the big thing with the Belmont. Usually it's
the right They call it the true Test of the

(16:19):
Champion because it's a mile and a half. It's the
only race for the Triple Crown that's a mile and
a half. Well, the race isn't being run at Belmont
this year because of construction at Belmont. In fact, I
think for the next two years it's going to be
held at Saratoga and it's only going to be a
mile and a quarter, so it's a shorter track. You've
got Sierra Leone off the jockey switch after the upset
in the derby, like it just you're only getting like

(16:40):
two to one on it right now, and you know
it might be because of the you know, the paramutual
wagering that they do. It might even be a shorter
price come race time. But I think that's the only
way that I would bet this. The underdog that I
heard a couple of the sharp Corse betters I trust
like was Resilience. That's the two horse going off at

(17:01):
around ten to one. So if you want a launch
shot in the race, that's the bet I would make.
But I'm going to be stacking my chips on Sierra Leone,
who's currently the favorite at around two to one right now.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Stut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Wow, that
was a lot on a race that you said, Well,
you know, I mean, that's right.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
I study hard, Doug. I tell you I'm not a
horse better fific I bet three races a year, but
I just know where the information is.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Okay. Last thing at the time of this recording, Danny
Hurley is still the head coach at Yukon. What did
the odds say about the likelihood of him getting the
Lakers shop?

Speaker 1 (17:42):
I think they went up yesterday. I think right now,
I haven't seen any odds recently, but if I was
handicapping it, I would make him a favorite. I would
make him minus money to be the head coach where
they're smoked their fire, right, I think. And you have
way more context about this than me in terms of
sources and you know, understanding the landscape. I'm looking at

(18:04):
it from a little bit more of the how I
viewed the news cycle perspective. I think the Reddit stuff
was a little bit of a I mean, it felt
like it was a little bit of smoke and mirrors.
It felt like it was a little bit of a ropidope.
And then the next news cycle story was the Hurley stuff,
which came hot, heavy and out of nowhere, and a

(18:26):
lot of times you know the true answer, right, It's
like kind of Okham's raised like the most obvious answer
is usually the correct one. It feels like it's the
most obvious answer because it feels like, if I'm the Lakers,
You've got to start planning post Lebron. I mean, you've
got to start laying the foundation. And I can name
maybe two three franchises in the NBA that are built

(18:46):
around culture the heat. Obviously, I think the Knicks are
getting there, but the Lakers are not a culture franchise
right now. They're a lebroad franchise. And I think if
you're bringing Hurley, you set a culture and that I
think has value in today's NBA wor we're going away
from that. So I think he's going to be the guy.
I would make him the favorite right now.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
Cherch Smith Chars are lead betting analyst for Fox Sports Radio.
Thanks so much for joining us.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Shared appreciate it. That good luck.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Let's find out who are what is annoying Ryan Bershinger
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
Ryan.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
What do you got, Bud?

Speaker 6 (19:27):
All right, well, let's start off with NFL aggregate Twitter accounts. Okay,
and we of course had the issue a week or
two ago where Dove Climban went to Twitter and said
that Mark Davis is fathering a child with a twenty
six year old woman, and the woman herself said, no,
I'm not, that's Joey Gallo's kid. Thank you. The latest

(19:48):
issue is you may have saw yesterday that Josh Jacobs
was on the green Lights podcast with the Chris Long
and he talked about how for the Brazil game they
are being told to not wear the color green. Now,
the reason for this is because the stadium that they're
playing in that soccer team's rivals are green, and so

(20:12):
it's kind of an informal rule like, hey, don't wear
green in the stadium and don't wear green in the
area because those rivalries are serious there. Josh Jacobs, of
course on the podcast said he didn't really know. It
wasn't really explained. He thought it was a gang affiliated thing.
mL Football, which still has this tweet up. mL football
is an aggregate Twitter account. They are a golden verified account.

(20:35):
They're not even just the normal verified like, they're a
high level verified and this is the tweet that they
put out regarding this situation breaking. The NFL is telling
Packers in Eagles player that they are again I'm sorry,
I'm reading this verbatim and it's poorly written, which is
a whole nother issue. The fact that this highly verified
account can't seem to really type. The NFL is telling

(20:58):
Packers in Eagles play that they are not allowed to
wear the color green in Brazil. For the opener, do
the gangs, and then it puts gangs in all caps.
Teams will likely be forced to stay in the hotel
all week and travel in armored vehicles, per Josh Jacobs. Now, sure, yes,
Jacob said this on the podcast. But this is the

(21:20):
one thing that I think Elon Musk has actually done
well with Twitter is the reader's add context and the
community notes when something is wrong. The community notes say
the information is false. Teams could be requested not to
wear green because the game will be played in Corinthians Arena.
Corinthians biggest rival is Paul Maris that wears green. The
allegation that teams will be forced to stay inside and

(21:41):
use armored vehicles is also false. So sure, while Jacob
said this on the podcast, this is a highly verified
Twitter account that puts out information about the league that
people take as real. Not only have they not corrected this,
they've just left this tweet up and this tweet has
seventeen thousand and likes on it. So this entire story

(22:02):
about how like the NFL is afraid of gangs. Even
a spokesperson for the NFL today went to I think
front off of Sports and told them, like, yeah, we
the league never said that, Like, that's not a thing.
There's no security concerns and concerns about gangs. So aggregate
Twitter accounts, you are annoying because people are out there

(22:23):
taking you guys seriously as news and you put out
stuff that has been proven to be wrong, and you
don't retract it, you don't correct it. You just leave
it out there for people to continue to believe.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
It's correct, it's fair, it's I don't think it's. One
of the things that Elon has done a good job
of is because everybody's viewed on some sort of even
playing field. There's no truth in lies or really substance
and credibility, even though there are some check marks. You
can buy one of those.

Speaker 6 (22:51):
Right right, What else? So the Major League Baseball All
Star ballots was released a couple of days ago, and
I think Major League Baseball is going to run into
a large problem that I'm surprised they haven't fully ran
into yet because of the way that the ballot is
set up. Every team has a player on the ballot

(23:12):
at each position. Sure, However, uh, let's take for example,
the Chicago White Sox. We talked about them yesterday. They
now have extended their losing streak to fourteen games, which
is now the longest losing streak in White Sox history.
On the ballot for their catcher position is Martin Maldonado.

(23:33):
I'm going to read you Martin Maldonado's stat line for
the season. He is seven for ninety two with one
home run that comes out to an seventy six banning
average UH for RBIs on base of one twenty four UH.
He has a war of negative one point five, meaning
that you and I have a higher value to the

(23:54):
White Sox right now than Martin Maldonado. I noticed this
because Yester, the White Sox put out their tweets saying like, hey,
vote for your White Sox on the All Star ballot,
and I had to click on it to see what
the replies are like. Because of so of course people
being like, really, come on now, But in plenty of
the replies are people being like, let's put Martin Maldonado

(24:17):
into the All Star Game because it's hilarious. This is
where the problem is with the MLB All Star ballot
is the fact that when you leave it up to
the public. Especially on the Internet, people are going to
meme their way into putting somebody like Martin Maldonado onto
the into the All Star Game. So I think that
Mage League Baseball should probably start to set like parameters

(24:38):
in terms of like certain amount of plane appearances per position,
and if you're if you don't have anybody at that
position that hasn't reached that amount of play appearances, don't
put them on the ballot, because quite frankly, we're going
to run into a time where the public is going
to find something so funny that they're going to force
somebody like this into the All Star Game. We've seen
the Internet do things like this. Remember the the Nickelodeon

(25:01):
playoff game a few years ago where they gave the
nick Most Valuable Player to Mitch Trubisky even though the
Bears lost that game. Like, there are things where the
Internet will run wild with these sorts of things. So
Major League Baseball a star valet, you're annoying because you're
setting yourself up for a very weird situation eventually enough.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
That's actually really really good. I also think that just
the idea, the arcane idea that you have to have
a player from every team is also super stupid. Yes,
really really stupid. Yes what else?

Speaker 6 (25:30):
So this last one here, Vince Young is currently golfing
in the BMW Pro Am this week and Golf Channel
is covering the event, and they had a reporter go
down onto the course and they track down Vince Young
to to ask him a question. Here's here's the broadcast.
It's Young playing this week.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
He is down with four it is six seasons in
the NFL, arguably one of the best and double A.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Quarterbacks of all. I'm in Texas.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
I took golf about.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
Four years ago.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
What's the biggest shift you make going from the ultimate
team sport to now the ultimate individual sport?

Speaker 5 (26:08):
Now, I apologize you have it wrong.

Speaker 6 (26:12):
Of course I'm ever Sayings City so which I'm football coach.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
But the thing is the great.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Thing about golf is I'm not a competing against myself,
but I'm competing against her.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
Gaddyops, that's amazing.

Speaker 6 (26:30):
Yeah. I hate to pile on to the reporter here,
but like this, this is so good. Again if you
couldn't fully hear, that's Everett Sands, who's the football coach
at the Citadel. He was also wearing the Citadel gear
on the golf course, and I made sure to leave

old the microphone there, and he's like, ah, yeah, And
then he did a good job of like trying to
like still work with it. So unfortunately you got to
give it your annoying to the to the golf you
doing yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
Like seriously, what are you actually doing?

Speaker 6 (27:04):
Yeah? And if you look at efforts sands like he
doesn't he doesn't really look like Vincy Young. I mean,
fitz Young is a big guy. Every uh Lauren, I didn't,
I didn't. I don't know what the way I.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Mean part of it is, I'm guessing that she's too
young to know what Vince Young looks like.

Speaker 6 (27:21):
Yeah, yeah, you know.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
It's a big portion of it, big big portion of it.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
The NFL Twitter accounts, all Star ballot.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Twitter accounts, I think is the most annoying because you know,
we have no ability to understand what's accurate and what's not.
So maybe this is towards Elon Muster, but for the meantime,
those of you who aggregate and become big Twitter's fore
your stars because of other people's stories. Then you screw
them up.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
You're annoying.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
