Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottly Show. Heres in
the bonus with Doug gottl.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
What that got to having the bonus? True? Hey, so,
but Tyreek kill thing. You know, everybody's going to go
into their you know, political sides here real quick and
make a determination that it was because Tyreek kills black

(00:34):
and because the officers were cops. Cops, hey black people.
That's where we all kind of go there. I think
the the officer, especially the one in question, was actually hispanic.
Nobody actually cares about those details. Can we just try
like a social experiment here instead of determining what's wrong

(00:56):
with the cop and that the cap was put on leave?
And look, I'm completely I'm with you. Like I watched
it and I was just like, what the fuck are
we doing here? It's Tyreek Hill. He steps outside the stadium,
he's driving mclaar, and everybody knows the Tyreek Hill is like,
what are we doing? But can we just watch for
a little bit. I'm sure they have bodycam footage and

(01:17):
we'll know everything we need to know. And maybe it's
an asshole cop. Maybe it's a cop who's a racist.
Maybe Tyreek Hill was an asshole to you know, and
believe me, if you're a cop, you had to put
up with a lot of crap. That's part of the deal.
But I just I urge people, like, what's the point
in rushing out and making a determination over what caused

(01:39):
this thing? It was embarrassing to all to all parties.
But that's why bodycam footage exists. So if you want
my statement on what I think, let me wait till
body cam footage comes out. Then I'll tell you what
I think. Fair Okay. The other one is Tom Brady's
first game. We'll talk about this a little bit during

(02:00):
the show. Was bad, And I know what you're saying,
Ton Romo is great his first game. So Romo has plateaued.
Tom Brady's only going to get better. He may, but
remember who's working with him. Who's working with him? Because
it feels like and a lot of guys do this,
they want to be a broadcaster when they're a broadcaster.

(02:22):
Tom Brady just needs to be Tom Brady. He needs
to be the Tom Brady that people don't see. If
he's that Tom Brady, it'll be really good if he
tries to be a broadcaster Tom Brady, I don't think
it works.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Let's find out who or what is annoying Jason Stewart,
and now.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
It's your annoying.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I don't know if you saw this, Doug, but Scott
Hansen was doing his thing yesterday. What is that called
red zone? And he made this comment about Tom Brady.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
This is a seventy one yard attempt and now the
Browns will call time out. Maybe everyone's gonna rethink this
one seventy one yard go to the Jets down.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Come on, Brady's got to get more excited to that
in the booth.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Scott Hanson this morning says on Twitter, this was unfair
and inconsiderate by me. Yes, I was saying it tongue
in cheek, but I didn't calculate how it may come
across Tom Brady. I apologize. I promise I'm rooting you
on in this new venture. I hate whoever compelled Scott.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Hanson to apologize.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
That was such a soft nudge, like you're talking about
a guy who had two hours of roast. How many
things were said in that roast that were one hundred
times worse than what Scott Hansome just did. I'm guessing somewhere,
somebody somewhere with NFL media felt compelled to tell Scott

(04:13):
to apologize. I hate that it was just a job,
And yeah, Tom Brady deserved a little criticism yesterday. I'm
glad he did it.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Well, here's the thing, you know, and Scott doesn't work
for Fox, but I guarantee that somebody called him and said, like,
what are you doing? You know, it's his first game.
It's a really very weird world we live in where
a player like Tom Brady can open himself up to
criticism because he's a professional athlete for twenty years and

(04:48):
he hops into a new field and he's beyond any
sort of the realm of a of an easy job.
That's not a hard job, right, you got to get excited.
So I think it's equal annoying though the fact that
not just that he had to he was told to apologize,
but that he did, and that somebody out there believes

(05:08):
that Tom Brady, or maybe Tom Brady has sense enough
to care what else? Who else? Is annoying you?

Speaker 3 (05:14):
I mean you can almost guarantee that's not the case, right.
I mean he's been in a locker room, he gets
he's gotten a lot worse. He agreed to do that roast.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yes, but the roast, it is kind of planned and
prepared for that. You're going to get roasted, whereas this
this is you know, like catching as straight from al leftfield.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Shaduur Sanders is the quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes. He's
also the son of Dion Sanders for those who didn't
know that part. So after the after Colorado got the
rasses kicked and Shadueur Sanders was pummeled all over the field,
he had this to say about the opposing quarterback and

(05:57):
his offensive line.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
I mean, how many times a rally tests?

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (06:01):
How many times did I other get tests? There was
a like course of course, whenever you're able to run
the ball consistently, and whenever you're able to then that
opens up the past, you know. But it's just like
you got to understand like what your team good at.
So it's like why would we keep running the ball
if okay, we are we out there, we get in
a situation where it must get and we won't get it.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I think it's like one of those things Doug where
I mean, you're a coach, you could speak to this.
There's like there's what you think and there's what you
say publicly as the leader of a football team. The
most annoying part about this, and I don't have any
proof to any evidence for this, but I have a
feeling that Dion would agree with what should do or
just said that, Dion would not pull him aside and
be like, that's not how leaders act, that's not how

(06:46):
we present ourselves. If the goal here, if the only
reason we're here should do is to get you drafted
and then I could be the head coach in the NFL.
You can't say that at a press conference. You need
to be a better leader and more draft ball.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Yeah, I mean, it's it's a terrible SoundBite. There's just
no other way he and he is annoying and I
I truly don't think he meant anything by it, but
it's a lack of understanding of how something comes out
where you know, like the thing we're supposed he's supposed
to be is supposed to be uber polished. His dad
was on TV as well as being one of the
great pros of our lifetime and his dad as a coach.

(07:24):
But it even if you're right, because he got hit
and hit hard, even if you're right, you can't say it.
And I'm sure there's part of it was, you know,
he has to call the protections, he has to not
hold the football too long, all these things have to happen. So, yeah,
you're it was super annoying to hear that he would
actually say that.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
So there's a lot to the Tyreek kill thing, but
I do want to focus on one thing, just one
aspect of the Tyreek Hill arrest yesterday before the game.
Stephen A and and Shannon started their show today under
the I guess the entire segment was under the kind

(08:07):
of the feeling that we if you believe Tyreek Hill's story,
this is unacceptable, and I maybe it went down the
way Tyreek says it went down. The police put out
a statement today saying that he was not being cooperative
and that justified somehow what we saw on video yesterday.

(08:28):
I don't know what the true story is. I don't
know if we'll ever get the true story, but to
automatically believe Tyreek Hill, I would proceed with caution here.
I would actually I would encourage our listeners to google this.
It's alliteration, so it's real easy. Tyreek Hill timeline of trouble.

(08:48):
There's an entire article of everything he has done wrong
legally since college, and maybe the one he did in
college was the most egregious, punching the stomach and faith
of his pregnant girlfriend and trying to strangle her. He
said this in a sound bite yesterday.

Speaker 6 (09:08):
I have no idea for a uh, no idea, no idea, man,
it's crazy, no idea. It wasn't disrespectful, you know, because
my mom didn't raise me that way. Didn't cuss, didn't
do none of that. So, like I said, I'm still
trying to figure it out.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Man, my mom didn't raise me to be that way.
There's a laundry list of things that he's done that
would be unacceptable for any parent. So I just want
to I want to caution those believing the story from
Tyreek Hill's sod Doug.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
I completely agree with you, completely agree with you. Like,
let's take a second and try and figure out what
actually happened. There's gonna be body cam footage of one,
if not all, the officers, and we'll have a sense
of you know, was the officer completely outline was to
my guess is like this, can I guess what went down?

(10:05):
All right, I'm gonna take yuess and let's let's see
how close to the truth this plays out to be.
My guess is Tyreek Hill was probably driving too fast,
a little bit of erradically in terms of trying to
get into the stadium. He's driving to McLaren I believe
that's McLaren. He's driving black milcaren. So he gets pulled over.
He's pissed off because he's trying to get into work,

(10:25):
and then he doesn't put his window down all the time.
The official, the police officer, didn't recognize him, doesn't know
who he is, and try to treat him like any
other guy. And Tyreek Kill is like, I'm Tyreek Hill,
I'm at the Dolphins game. I'm playing for the Dolphins.
What the fuck? Just let me go? And they didn't
want or they want to have a conversation about it.

(10:46):
He didn't, and so they pulled him out of the
car and and cut him and stuffed him. That's my guess. Yeah,
And then once they got him in there, they're like,
what are we doing?

Speaker 3 (10:56):
I think that sounds right. I guess the gray area
is kind of the how I don't know how much
force they used and if it was justified. And the
one guy I do believe, and why can't I remember
his name? What's the name of the massive defensive lineman
that's bounced around the league. But he's a good leader
and he was the one who also won cuffs yesterday. Campbell, Yeah,

(11:18):
Klais Campbell is the opposite of Tyreek killing that. He
has a clean reputation, and I believe him. If he
says that they were being a little too rough and
forceful and that's why he had to intercede, then I
kind of do. I kind of believe that, but none
of us know the actual story. Please just do not
believe everything Tyreek Hill says. Ever, and then quickly Doug

(11:41):
Tony Romo. It was a great juxtaposition yesterday. So I
had the dual screen. I had Tom Brady's opening game
on the left, on the right was the Charger game,
and every once in a while a toggle back to
the to Tony Romo, and it just confirmed to me
that he still nails on a chalkboard. On the air.
Did you see this? This was going around. Drew Bledsoe

(12:02):
had done some I think it was maybe like a
feature on Tony Romo, and he sat down for an
interview and within the feature, Bledsoe said this about Romo
as a player.

Speaker 7 (12:14):
In Dallas Parcels made the decision to yank me at
halftime of a game and throw Romo in there. Really
didn't agree with that one. If you're watching this, Romo,
you know this is true. The minute that he became
the starter, he became pretty big in his own mind,
and he was no longer the curious and inquisitive guy
where that was the difference between him and Tommy. Tommy
became the starter, he still was asking all the questions,

(12:36):
where all of a sudden, Romo was the guy that
had all the answers.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
See now, this is interesting, right because Tony Romo's broadcast
career has kind of been that way. He's gotten a
lot of criticism and he hasn't really gotten any better.
I believe Tom Brady had a rough start yesterday, but
I believe he's going to put the work in. I
think that's going to be the difference here. But I
thought it was interesting that Bledsoe made that analogy about
them as players that I think will problem will be

(13:00):
pertained to them as broadcasters.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Yes, although there is something called over preparing and if
you have the wrong people training you for the wrong
things and the wrong way of ingesting it, and we'll talk.
We talked about a little bit in the open. I
actually like, I know you don't like Romo and there
are some things he does the annoying. There are some
things that he has an inherent likability and ease of

(13:28):
where he does feel like he's one of your buddies. Now,
does he need to be better as a broadcaster, Yes,
but I don't know if Brady has that because Brady
right now appears to be so wrapped up in his
own head because people, so many people have given him advice.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
So I've got the Scott Hanson apologies, Shaudur Sanders and
Dion don't believe Tyreek Hill and Tony Romo being annoying.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Hmm wow, that's a long laundry list.

Speaker 8 (13:55):
Hum.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yeah, that's a big weekend. I got like ten more
where that came from.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I think the people jumping to automatic conclusions about police
officers without watching is.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
Another Why are we doing this.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
I do.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Because we can.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
And I want to follow up that real quick before
we get to because we can. Of the I believe
that there's a lot of cops on a power trip.
I don't, here's any question about it. But I also think,
like what set dudes off, It's got to be a
real conversation, like those guys got pissed, what they get
pissed about? When I find that out, that'll be super interesting.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Well, speaking about that, tyreel Kill dropped an F bomb
while explaining how his teammates came to his defense.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
I guess the police officer was put on administrative leave.
Where you were that and not? I wasn't.

Speaker 6 (14:59):
I wasn't. I should tell you everything you need to know.
There you feel me, I should tell you everything you
need to know. So that's all I'm gonna say about
that situation. I'm just glad that my teammates were there
to support me in that situation because I felt alone,
you know, and when they showed up, it made like
it made me realize that we got a fucking good

(15:20):
team this year. For them to like put they for
them to put their their life on the line.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yeah, I mean, like, look there is a real conversation
we had about Tyreek Hill, like right message, wrong messenger,
you know, like he said to where would I be
if I wasn't Tyreek Hill? Like, yeah, domestic violence would
have had you in jail. Now that Alabama A and
M right, So, but it is it. Clais Campbell's a solid,

(15:49):
solid dude, and he does make a great point like
if somebody's willing to get arrested for a teammate, that's
a damn good teammate. Why they play for you?

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Because we can't be sure to catch live editions of
The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays said three pm Eastern noon
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
App Let's let's get to what the Fox said.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
And now.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Here's Brady Quinn LaVar Arrington. They talk about the Browns
having Deshaun Watson while Baker Mayfield thrives elsewhere.

Speaker 8 (16:19):
Awesome of that in the respect of what happened, what
occurred between Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns is it
always I think if he's in Cleveland, that game looks
entirely different, but maybe not a ton different because of
the issue with the tackles and that defensive front. But
to me, much better quarterback play, much more consistent quarterback play.

Speaker 9 (16:39):
I think they have a chance to compete and win
the game if Baker Mayfield is in that game. I'm
sorry and Djoku Atkins for Judy Amari that you have
a ton of guys more. I just think it's the quarterback.

(17:03):
I'm gonna be honest. The Achilles heel of this of
this team is that they have to unequivocally put their
trust in the hands of a quarterback that just is
not going to be able to deliver what it is
that that the team is going to need.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Yeah, I mean, I just I'm I'm with LaVar here.
I've been what have we seen from Deshaun Watson since
he'sa been in Cleveland. It leads us to believe he's
good enough. Joe Flacco is basically washed out, but he
was better and they got to the playoffs last year.
I just do I think the Baker thing would have
been he would have been better, sure, but I also

(17:45):
think that Baker need a fresh start as well. Here's
Dan Patrick talking about Tony Romo Tom Brady's first broadcast.

Speaker 10 (17:52):
And I said, Tom Brady knows football he has to
know television. He has to understand TV. He didn't understand
TV yesterday, the timing of it. And he's used to
people asking him questions. People don't ask you questions necessarily
when you're doing a game. You got to react to that. Now,
Kevin Burkhart may ask him a question and probably has

(18:13):
to ask him a few more questions to get him
in conversational mode. But Tom to me was there were pauses.
His cadence wasn't smooth. There was very little synchronicity. He
needed to be more of at the line of scrimmage
as if he's quarterbacking he was back as if he

(18:34):
was the third string quarterback. You got to be in
it up front. You got to be attacking. You got
to see everything. Now that's fixable. He's got to understand
you have to be aggressive. You have to see it,
say it, get out. Let your play by play guy
take over, see it, say it, get out, react. Don't
be afraid to say what is Deshaun Watson doing or

(18:59):
what's Cleeve don't what's their game plan?

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Like? You have to do that, no question. I think
the pauses were a real thing. It's just hard when
you're not used to understanding the timing mechanisms of it.
There are people talking in your ear. You're trying to
get out before the team gets to the you know,
the quarterback gets under the huddle. You know, sometimes you
have to lay out because they have to do a read.

(19:22):
The whole thing. Just he sounded like guy who hasn't
done a game before. And my guess is, by about
mid season, we'll not only know if he can do it,
but we'll i'll know if they're teaching him the right things,
because I mean, Dan knows, but you need to have
somebody who knows him. And also how he wants to

(19:43):
broadcast to it, because yes, there's certain things you need
to get excited about, and there's certain things you need
to predict, and there's certain things you need to react to.
But that was like any superstar ath that you get,
you kind of put in the booth and they're sort
of not really prepared, even though they think they are.
The only thing that's we supposed they had done a
lot of prep games, and he didn't appear to be
prepped for that game. Here's Colin Cowherd talking about Jim Harbaugh.

Speaker 11 (20:06):
He's a little bit like a very successful Hollywood director
where budget runs on time, you know, the production runs
on time. He has a clear style. You know it's
his movie, and he didn't always have to have movie
stars to win. I mean, I watched that game last year,
this team last year, and they had to score thirty
four to win with a defensive coach. Now they have

(20:28):
an offensive coach, and it was your classic rock fight.
It was just in the alley. They don't have a
lot of weapons on the perimeter. Justin Herbert had to
make two or three big throws. But Herbert now could
execute the offense instead of be the offense. Every hardbought
team every game, I know exactly what I'm getting. I mean,

(20:50):
it's classic. The Raiders had more first downs, double the
passing first downs, The Raiders were better on third down,
The Raiders threw for more yards, the Raiders won time
of possession, and the Chargers won the game. That's Harball.
Second half. Jim Harbaugh's team, lean forward, run the football,

(21:12):
be physical and punishing, very good situational coach. Antonio Pierce's punting.
Jim Harbaugh leaning in, very aggressive. It's just this is
this team could not win games unless they want to shootout.
They bring in an offensive coach with the same defensive players,

(21:33):
and they win a game where they had six passing
first downs and eleven total first downs.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
That is coaching, agreed.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
I watched that game yesterday and I thought, this is
a completely different coach team. Jason can say the same.
And maybe it's because we know harball, but maybe it's
because you know it was. The execution was simple and clean,
and it doesn't look perfect. They're not a great team,
but they look like a well coached team. They just
do and sometimes it's just as simple as you a

(22:03):
really well coach team, get good players, and eventually it
works out. That's what the Fox said, and not.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
What does the Fox say.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
