Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug gottlie Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
I've so if you're listening to this podcast, you know
that the two hours of live radio, uh, they'll run
subsequent to this, right. So we talked a lot about
the NFL, the disaster that was the Dallas Cowboys, some

(00:32):
of the pleasant surprises on the season, including the domination
of the Chargers. I'll get to why that's I told
you why that's important. But on the pod, we like
to talk about college football on a Monday because it
does get lost in national sports radio and in the
I don't hate to say I told you so, I
told you so. And and look what happens with Oklahoma.

(00:53):
People is are like, well, Olclomost State sucks, like I
got it. There are seasons bad too, but man, Oklahoma
is in a world of issue, right. They they put
all their eggs I love the all the eggs ambassador
of Jackson Arnold. Then they pull him and start Michael Hawkins,
and turns out Michael Hawkins only a freshman, not good enough.

(01:13):
So they scored three points against Texas. Now they've played
two good Dave had two good teams this year, Tennessee
who took their footway off the gas and beat them
twenty five to fifteen at home. And then Texas are
our tribal beats some thirty four to three on Saturday
in the Red River rivalry. South Carolina who comes in
after they should have beaten Alabama they didn't. Then they

(01:34):
go to Ole miss they got Maine at home, then
to Missouri, Alabama lsu I just again. Oklahoma's best case scenario,
my guess, is that they win two more games. You know,
if you win two more games, that's beating South Carolina home,
beating Maine at home, and then lose the other four

(01:55):
and you lose that, you end up six and six.
Like that's a really hard reason to survive ans your
first year in the SEC.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
And what happens is, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
People tell you, like, wow, you just go to the portal,
and like that doesn't always work. It's really hard to
keep fixing things on the fly. And their defense is
pretty good. And of course you hired a coach and
he was the one who built Clemson national championship defense.
He was with Oklahoma back when they were dominating the
Big twelve. The biggest issue with Oklahoma. That people aren't
realizing is they're not ready for the SEC. The SEC

(02:25):
is such a higher level of competition, such a much
higher level of competition. I mean, did you see that
LSU game which was insane in tents and LSU was
one hundred and two thousand people Because remember the SEC
and the Big Ten, they make all this crazy money.
But a lot of those SEC schools, you throw a
hundred thousand people in and you're making one hundred and

(02:47):
fifty million a year on your stadium as well, and
you already have some momentum.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Gonna be really hard for Oklahoma. It just is.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
And this isn't because I'm an Oklahoma State guy, because
you've got to realize sometimes you fit in one league
and you don't in another, and it's better to be
the bully in the league, even if you're making a
little bit less money. It's better to be a bully
in the league than to just be a team in
a league. And I get it. There were other there
are other things that play with Oklahoma. They've they've had

(03:19):
some issues on campus and bad investments from UH from
up top, and I think they had some money issues,
you know, and and their other sports. Frankly, are you
know in many ways at the level softball, gymnastics, baseball, right,
they want the SEC is real in all of the
sports and they want to be part of it.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
But man, if football goes from a dominant superpower one
league to just kind of an also ran all the
rest of the stuff, I hate to tell you it
doesn't matter, just doesn't really doesn't matter. I'd also point
out that while it's easy and I picked Colorado to
win against Kansas State, I would actually tell you that

(04:04):
this weekend I was really impressed with Shador Sanders. Now
it wasn't a good throw, might have been p I
last play of the game, and but they didn't lose
that game because of Shador Sanders. They lost that game
because Shiloh Sanders was bad, but also just a litany
of injuries to their skill position players and their defense
couldn't stop anybody. And I don't love their play calling

(04:25):
because they give up on running the football. When you
can run it, you become one dimensional. But I would
just tell you, like Shador Sanders under pressure, under dress,
I thought he played really well when when it was
late and and it's pretty clutch so it's just kind
of it's just kind of interesting to me, Okay, interesting

(04:46):
to me that here we here, we have a here,
we have a a Shador Sanders has made himself kind
of a target, and I actually think talent wise, like
he's plenty good enough to play in the NFL. I
don't know if he's the number one prospect. I think
I think Hunter is even better. I really do. But

(05:09):
I you know, to me, it's it's super super simple,
super simple. Colorado is not a well built enough team
to sustain those injuries. I'm not sure anybody truly is
like there's that number of injuries. But I'm fascinated, absolutely
fascinated by how it plays out for CEU because they

(05:34):
have some wins still coming on their schedule. But now
you lose Travis Hunter, you just have a litany of
injuries and they pile up. I thought Shador Sanders continues
to play well, looks like an NFL quarterback. Looked like
he was tough enough. He does hold the ball a
little bit too long. But it's weird because I think
most people think I'm a Shador hater.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
I've hated the act previously. I've hated the arrogance previously.
I just think as a quarterback you can act like
his dad did. As a cornerback, just don't. But what
I do think is that he stepped up and shown
he's solid and can be a hell of a player.
I just don't know if they're going to have enough
live bodies. And then you have Organs win over Ohio State,

(06:16):
we'll talk about the twelfth man on the field and
some of the brilliance behind that. A massive win for
Organ and Ryan Day is going to continue to catch
strays because of how many games they've come close but
happened to have a close. And then Will Howard's sliding
when runs out of time, like that's time and score.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
That is, in fact coaching.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Even if you told Will Howard to know the time
and score, it's still coaching. If the guy slides, that's
on you. That's on your watch. But the hard part
to take for those of us who are hardcore football fans,
and again I am somebody who has always wanted a playoff.
There's a guy in can sit and named Sarn Petro.

(06:58):
I used to do radio with him once a week
for years, and Sirin would always make the point If
the Bowl system is so good, how come no other
sport emulates the Bull system? All right, makes a really
good point. But now that we've gone to this playoff,
those losses just don't matter as much. Like granted, had
Alabama lost to, you know, in back to back games,
the Vanderbilt South Carolina, it would be really hard if

(07:21):
they got a third loss to put them in the
College Fall playoff. But Ohio State there, it's only slightly
different today than it was yesterday, or Denitwood was Saturday
before Saturday's game. One loss doesn't kill you, two loss
probably doesn't either. In the Big Ten, the SEC.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Three is close to the death now.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
But by no means doesn't mean absolutely positively you won't.
You know, you won't play in those two leagues. In
those two leagues.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Let's to get to the Fox says, and now every day,
this time that Doug gotlip showing the bonus podcast it
played for your portion a previous portion of a show
on Fox Sports one Fox Sports Radio. Here's Dan Patrick
talk about the end of the organ Ohio State game.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
They got ten seconds to go in the game and
they put a twelve man out there knowing that they're
going to be flagged five yards. Now, this is after
a timeout, so Ohio State runs a play. Well, the
time goes off the clock. They don't reset that, so
you take a Basically you're saying, hey, you can run

(08:35):
that play. We're going to flag them for twelve men
on the field, so it's only five yards. You have
an extra guy. You make sure they don't get a
big play. It penalizes Ohio State because now they're down
to what six seconds, and you're trying to get into
field goal range. So okay, we'll take the five yards.

(09:00):
Should get a big play. Time off the clock. Now
what do you do. You got to get into field
goal range. He didn't get down in time, and they
end up not getting an opportunity for a game tying
field goal. Mark my words, this rule will be changed.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Well, I don't think there's any doubt about it. There
was a there was a play in the Super Bowl
between the Niners and the Ravens where I remember the
Ravens had the lead late and all they did was
hold so that they could only call one holding, and

(09:38):
the Ravens kind of ran down more of the clock
while they had the ball on offense. There's there's there's
different ways in which you can know the rules themselves
and use use them to your benefits. And this is
a loophole that at some point has got to get
cleared up. I mean, I'm what they're gonna have to
do is probably put the time back on the clock.
It's the only way to do it. That's what I
was thinking when I saw the play live. Still a

(10:00):
remarkably good football game, and Audsen was very much alive.
Here's Colin Cowherd talking about the Cowboys after their disastrous
performance against Detroit.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
The NFL has gotten smarter over the last decade, more
good coaches, more sharp executives, and the Cowboys along that
same timeline have become much more insulur. The only team
in the NFL with an eighty two year old GM
wink wink. And he's not firing Mike McCarthy. He's not
gonna do that. We'll get to that in a second,
but that's not going to work. The Detroit Lions, though yesterday,

(10:34):
were everything the Cowboys want to be deep, tough, clever, fun,
capable at quarterback. Nobody's massively overpaid. In fact, I'd argue
many of their best players are right now under market value.
They were everything the Cowboys want to be. In fact,

(10:56):
their old line, the Lions all line, had a two
who touches and a target. I'm not like talking about
falling on a fumble. These were intentional. They were gonna
embarrass the Cowboys. It was like the Chiefs against the Saints.
They were messing around, flexing for the TV audience after that.
Cowboy win shouldn't have over Detroit.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Well, I think there's a couple levels to it. I've
said this before and I mean it. I know it's
easy to pick on Jerry Jones for being as whatever
an old eighty two year old GM personnel has for
the most part, not been their issue, not been their issue.
It's a poorly coach football team, and it's poorly quarterback

(11:42):
football team at times, and when he turns the football over,
they're not any good. I don't understand it. I don't
understand how many years you can go into the playoffs
and a guy at the highest level doesn't play well
and yet you continue to say, oh, that's okay, We'll
just keep having them do it, keep having them do it,
keep having them do it. It doesn't make sense to me,

(12:02):
shouldn't make sense to me. And I think losing Dan
Quinn defensively, you know, Zimmers come in, it's not a
good fit for what he wants to do. Zimmer's been
a very good defensive coordinator of other places, but it
doesn't fit with what they're doing. And their defense isn't
that good. But the end of the day, Dak Prescott
hasn't been good enough in many of these games. And

(12:24):
oh yeah, by the way, you know that Detroit's gonna
be able to score. You know it, here's Bretty Quinn
talking about those Detroit Lions.

Speaker 6 (12:32):
No one's feeling that though, no one's feeling like the
Detroit Lions should maybe make a move. I mean, I
feel like I look at this team and they're a
super Bowl contender. They're definitely a continuing on NFC. And Hutchinson,
so the tibby is a weight bearing that's the weight
bearing like he had surgery after he broke it yesterday
And I don't know exactly that the time frame on it,

(12:53):
but it's going to be a while before he's able
to get back out there and weight bearing. So I
guess in the short term, unless they feel really good
about something else they have internally, maybe se who's out there.
In all seriousness, maybe you do call the chats and say, hey,
we'll take Hassan Reddick off your your chest. Maybe it's
is Max Crossby frustrating Trey Hendrickson wanted something before the
season in all seriousness and you know, joking aside. Maybe

(13:17):
the Bengals now, you know, even though they won last night,
maybe that's a team that, depending on how the next
week or two goes, where you can get up an
edge rusher could come in and give you, you know,
an immediate impact player. It might make some sense.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah, I mean that's it's devastating to Detroit that that
Hutchinson broker's leg. By the way, I've watched the video
at least ten times. Yes, I'm that guy, but I
make no I make no what's it called about it?
Explanation about it? Everybody knows I like to watch those videos.
But yeah, they're gonna have to go out and try
and get a dude because the offense is absolutely good

(13:52):
enough but you lose your primary pass rusher and the
defense isn't great to begin with, and it really feels
like in the playoffs you're going to struggle.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
That's what the fuck said?

Speaker 1 (14:00):
What do I say? Be sure to catch live editions
of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern
noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Let's find out who are What's annoying? Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 7 (14:24):
Hey, Doug. Let's start with Friday Night. Friday Night, you know,
one of the best nights of my life as a
Dodger fan. Dodgers beat the Padres in Game five. And
just a quick note on the Padres. If you're going
to talk all that shit and you're going to be
the team that really embraces the brand of the team

(14:46):
that doesn't give a shit, that's going to disrespect the
game and your opponents and do all that and call
out Jack Flaherty for hitting their best picture because quote,
he didn't want to pitch to them. You cannot not
score runs in twenty four straight innings, including the last
eighteen innings, and Tatisse and Machado can't go a combined

(15:09):
one for fifteen in the last two and a half games.
You can't talk all that shit and then disappear. They
just laid down and Max Munsey was pretty fired up
our third basement, Max Munsey, he was fired up after
the game. And I always find these moments maybe the
moments of the most honesty, Cause you know, baseball players
are pretty buttoned up. They don't say much, they don't

(15:32):
want to piss anybody off. But if you put get
a little bit of liquor in them and a little
bit of what do you call that when you're you're
fired up about doing something physically great, a lot of
adrenaline going on. Liquor plus adrenaline equals honesty. And this
is what Max Munzi said on an IG Live to
the fans in Los Angeles.

Speaker 5 (15:52):
Hey, present, you fuckers didn't believe it us eighty percent,
you fuckers that.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
We're gonna lose.

Speaker 7 (15:59):
So as one of the eighty percent that thought you
were going to lose, let me explain what is behind that,
Max Monzy. You guys have been dogs in the postseason
for many, many years. You have I guess trained Dodger
fans to not be optimistic. You have continuously failed and

(16:20):
let us down in the biggest moments. So I just
wanted to explain why eighty percent of us motherfuckers thought
that you guys were going to lose to the Padres.
So Max Montcy, I love you, and you had a
great clutch hit last night, and they'll say, yes, but
that's why eighty percent of us thought you would lose.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
No doubt. And I don't understand the I just part
of it. I don't get it. I don't get it.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
I don't understand why there's so much negativity in a celebration,
you know, because we don't give a fuck on TV, Like,
what is the point of that? I just think you
look like kind of like you look like the Padres.
That's not how the Dodgers are supposed to look. I
really thought that their celebration felt more like the Padres
than it needed to, Like they beat that attitude.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
They didn't need to have that attitude. What else?

Speaker 7 (17:16):
So I always want to be the person in National
radio that reminds people that Deshaun Watson is an awful
human being and I openly root against him on Sundays
and it's it's it's been an amazing gift each Sunday
to watch him fail miserably for the Cleveland Browns. He
did so last night there was a stat that he's
gone like thirty six straight drives without getting a third down.

(17:39):
That just sounds made up. I don't even I don't
even know what that means. But and also this all
I'm gonna say this. Roger Goodell once referred to what
he did to women as predatory. And for those listeners
right now that are like, no, he didn't. The commissioner
of the NFL didn't refer to one of his players
as predatory. I went ahead and got the sound for you.

(18:01):
This is what he said.

Speaker 8 (18:03):
We've seen the evidence. She was very clear about the evidence.
She reinforced the evidence that there was multiple violations here
and they were egregious and it was predatory behavior. That
those are things that we felt, we always felt were
really important for us to address in a way that's responsible.

Speaker 7 (18:22):
So here's just a quick note on this. The reason
why he's annoying and why this whole thing's annoyed. If
you're going to choose to be a predator, then you
should not be surprised when you are prayed on on Sundays,
get it, predator, and then he's prayed on on Sundays.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Yeah, he's prayed on Sundays. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
I mean, look, the Shaun Watson thing is an abject
disaster for all parties. Like, honestly, who wins in this thing.
The NFL has a guy that has was accused of
all this stuff and then settled it. The Browns gave
the first or five year fully guaranteed contract to a
guy who is sucking the life and just sucking in

(19:05):
general at the position. The only real winner is the Texans,
who are moved on to another quarterback. They were they
were called every name in the book, and yet they
come out with CJ. Stroud and a whole and they're
four and one now in the year. By the way,
they play Green Bay next weekend, like complete win for
the Texans, but the NFL, of the Browns, everybody else

(19:26):
involved loses.

Speaker 7 (19:29):
So Ryan's prepus. This is the funniest bit oft sound
I heard all weekend. So I don't know if you're
this way, Doug, but I don't really have a horse
in this race. But I really love the political banter.
I like the way that politics has covered this time
of year, because every single day somebody goes to their
side of the ring and just takes shots at the

(19:51):
other side and it's entertaining. And this was just out
of nowhere, like literally out of left field, and you're like,
why are we doing this on a sports podcast? Because
Ryan's Prebus, who I think he was in the Trump
administration now is a conservative pundit for ABC News, thought
he would include Rory McElroy in this analogy. Rory McElroy

(20:15):
taking strays from ABC News.

Speaker 9 (20:19):
She you know, she was losing in the sun Belt
and she tried to recover by going on the View,
which a lot of women watch. She went on the
View you talked about it earlier, and she wanted to
clarify the two most important issues that are facing these
two candidates, the economy and immigration, and she bombed like
Rory at the US Opening.

Speaker 7 (20:42):
All right, So Doug, this annoyed. What did Roy McElroy
ever do to Ryan's prebous. There's at least ten other
examples that he could use there of people choking or bombing.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
And pretty obviously he must have had money on Rory
at the US Open.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
That's like a super random one, right, is it too?

Speaker 7 (21:02):
Soon.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
I mean, what's funny is like economy, like stock market
all time high and uh inflations down to three percent
under three percent. But yeah, whatever, I and and I'll
be honest with that. I think this political cycle from
the right is fucking gross. I'm actually I wanted to
it's my podcast. I'm gonna use it to explain something

(21:24):
really quickly.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
I sat down with an older gentleman at a lunch
last week, and my boss had told me, this, don't
talk politics like he's a hardcore trumper. And I don't
think he actually is a hardcore trumper. He's actually a
very very accomplished businessman who we talked about Israel a lot.

(21:46):
And he said, and I quote, I can't believe anybody
of the Jewish faith would ever vote for a Democrat.
And I said, I understand, because I'm just as bothered
as anybody, if not more so. But some of these
some of these idiots fucking celebrating hamas or jsbalah. You
sound like the dumbest human beings on earth. Right, You're

(22:07):
celebrating evil. It's like, but if you listen to the
rhetoric that is coming from Donald Trump, it sounds exactly
like what they've always said about Jews, what they say,
the stories they make up about immigrants and all this
other bullshit. Okay, because listen, are there undocumented in agriments

(22:28):
that are committeed have committed crimes. Yes, there's also documented
born Americans that have committed way more crimes on other Americans.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Like, let's just be honest that.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Oh yeah, by the way, the truth is that on
any metric, crime has been an all time low. And look,
crime has been an all time low. Republican Democrat in office,
it doesn't matter. It's been going down and down and
down and down over years. But what happens is we
think it's been made greater because we watched it on
social media and we hear these bullshit stories, and that's
what happens.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
The point is that I agree with you that stray
is really funny.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
It's funny because you're like whoa somewhere like Roy McRoy
is like whoa, hey, hey, I don't have any I'm
not even American. I can't even vote them this shit
like I'm not the only guy who sucked at the
US Open. But I'm gonna disagree with you in terms
of the discourse. It's fucking disgraceful. It's disgraceful the lie,
the amount of it's not the basic political lies like

(23:26):
those ones we've become like you know, they all like
want to change their record and show what happened. And
there's an immigration bill and this bill like that stuff
is normal, that's normal political discourse.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
It sucks, it's negative.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
It's making up stats to support things that don't actually right.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
But just.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Like the FEMA, like this shit is wrong and making
it out like anybody who's not born in the United
States does not belong in the United States?

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Like what what are we actually doing?

Speaker 2 (24:00):
When did it become okay to just label people criminals
that aren't criminals.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
And to just make shit up?

Speaker 2 (24:08):
So, yes, Rents previous or whatever, Rice Previous, whatever the
guy's name was. I mean, like, look when the first
time when uh, when Trump got elected, he was his
campaign chair, that's his that's his background. And oh yeah,
by the way, he came up with the whole idea
of just if you just lie all the fucking time.
The campaigioned down on one line, that's his kind of
thing anyway, any.

Speaker 7 (24:30):
Others No, so we got uh previous Watson and Max Muncie.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
I'll go with Max Muncie.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Uh, you just celebrated, you just you pulled off a
great comfort behind two wins.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Just celebrate it. Don't be an asshole.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
You're no, why are we doing this? Because we can.

Speaker 7 (25:01):
So you already referred to this, but we need to
play it because it was definitely a walk off, And
I think you're right. I think like the Dodgers, like
over obviously over a course of time, have like gone
into a bunker, and I think they've convinced themselves everybody's
against us, including our own fans, And that came out

(25:22):
after the celebration. It was much less like celebrating an
amazing five game series. It was like, fuck everybody for
doubting us. And keyk Hernandez wanted to make sure he
was on live TV before he did this.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
You mentioned that you've.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Been part of eight different postseasons here.

Speaker 6 (25:40):
What is different about this particular team?

Speaker 7 (25:48):
Are we live? We're live the fact that we don't
give a fuck.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Yeah, did you like that?

Speaker 7 (25:55):
I didn't like what he said? No, No, that's what
I was saying. The Dodgers have taken some this like
attitude of us against the world. Well, maybe it don't
win us the World Series, but like, like I said,
this was kind of like a fuck everybody for doubting us.
K K had an amazing game. He had a home run.
He was put on third base on the very in
the ninth inning after playing outfield all game, and the

(26:17):
first pitch is a is a p right hit right
out of him. He makes the play. Anyways, I like
KIK because he's clutching the playoffs. Yes, but no, no, I.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Didn't like, can well, can't we spell his name k
E E k A?

Speaker 3 (26:32):
Why do we have to spell it the way we
spelled with this? With this very split like why.
