Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Heres in the Bonus with Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
What Doug Gottlieb Show in the Bonus Fox Sports Radio,
iHeartRadio app Welcome in. Well, Jay Sto, thanks for coming
to the game. Didn't see afterwards. That's because we lost
ten point lead, eight point lead in the second half
and we end up getting handled by UC Santa Barbara.

(00:34):
And obviously I think the headline if you're watching the
game was Anthony Roy went down with a roll ankle.
But the other part too, it was another blown lead
in the second half. And again I think I've identified
two or three of the biggest issues. But really the
leaking comes in when you have the lead in the

(00:56):
first half and then the dam breaks in the second
and a half, and you know, we struggled to patch
that thing quick enough in order to dig ourselves out.
But it's it's interesting, you can you can't win a
game in the first half, but you can lose a
game in the first half. And I would say there
were many aspects of that in that game. You know,

(01:17):
where we were up four to half and we felt
like we should have been up fourteen and a half,
just a couple of empty possessions, a couple of guys
through the ball the wrong place, you know, don't get
and then they cause you to not get back on defense,
and then you give up a three in transition, and
so all the adages of coaching come out. More games
are lost than one. That's how we feel. That's how

(01:38):
we feel, is that we're losing more than their other
teams are beating us. And granted those you know, you see,
SB is a really good team, really good you know.
The other thing I found interesting, I don't think that
campus has changed hardly at all. And I mean that
in a good way, in that if you go to

(01:59):
any of these other college campuses, and I haven't been
to UCSB in years, they look, you know, it's all
glass and many of its beautiful, beautiful stuff, but they've
maintained whether it's dorms or school buildings, it only looks
like there's one or two sort of newish buildings. And
maybe it's because you know, you see system fairly cheap,

(02:19):
don't want to spend the money or whatever, but I
feel like that campus looks exactly the same as it
always has, and everybody knows that. I like UCSB's campus.
More than that, like Pepperdine's campus, which people think is
the best. Pepperdine's up on a hill. You got to
walk the stairs to go from firestonefield House to the
main part of the campus. It overlooks the water, but

(02:42):
you see Santa Barbara. At least part of the dorms
are on the water. Anyway, Congrats to Joe Pasternak and
his team. They beat us on Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 1 (02:50):

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Let's get to what the Fox says and now every
day this time that Doug gotlip show in the Bonus podcast.
Check out what others have said on Fox Sports Trader
Fox Sports One. Here's Colin Cowhert talk about Josh Allen.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
I started watching football in nineteen seventy two. I was
a little kid and I watched the first and on
a black and white TV. I watched the Washington Redskins
beat lose to the Miami Dolphins in a Super Bowl.
That's the first game I remember watching. I loved the NBA,
the Portland Trail Blazers in the early seventies, and that

(03:35):
was the first NFL game I remember watching. And then
I became like a Washington Husky fan, and I remember
for Robin Earl and Warren Moon and blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
You don't care.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
But Josh Allen's the most talented quarterback I've ever seen.
I'll die on that hill. Don't confuse trophies with talent.
Brady's got more trophies than mahomes. Patrick's more talented. I
always thought John m was like the greatest athlete. Remember
he was going to play either for the Yankees or

(04:04):
in the NFL. Greatest athlete to play quarterback. Compared to
Josh Allen, John Elway looks small and lumbering the kids. Unbelievable.
I've never seen a quarterback this good. I mean, size,
are mobility eight plus plus plus plus. It's a little
Lebron in his prime. It's a little old Tawny, it's
a little tiger. Where you can put the best athletes
in the world out there, and he's a notch above that.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Now, he's really good. I mean the fact that the
ultimate sign of respect or maybe disrespect for the defense
was early in the fourth quarter, right, the Lions attempted
on sidekick instead of giving it back to Josh Allen
because they know he'd score. He is I've said the
John Alway comparison. I think that's an accurate one, super
accurate one. Here's Dan Patrick talking about Dan Campbell's decision

(04:51):
to try that on sidekick.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
There's twelve minutes to go, they're down ten. Dan Campbell
realizes we're not stopping Josh Allen. Now, the problem that
I have with the onside kick is if you're gonna
do it at twelve minutes to go or you know,
anytime after like five minutes in a game, you should
be able to surprise the opposition.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
If it's the.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
Final minute, then you can let them know you're gonna
have an onside kick. If you said that you were
going to have an onside kick in that moment and
you didn't have to tell the Buffalo Bills, then I
understand the logic with Detroit because they wouldn't have. You know,
you're not expecting an on side kick with twelve minutes
to go and the team is down by ten. That's

(05:33):
the problem with the rule. Hey, we would normally be
surprising you surprise, but we can't surprise you. It's said,
we're gonna surprise you, We're going to tell you. There's
a It's like when you tell somebody there's a surprise
party for them and then they have to go in
and act surprise. So they basically just said to the
Buffalo Bills, Hey, surprise, we're gonna have an onside kick

(05:55):
with twelve minutes to go. You got to fix that.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yeah, I think that's a bad one too. Again, part
of it is this is all about player safety and
how you're lining guys up. But there's a it's a
definite flaw to the league still, I mean, takes some
gigantic nuts to make that call, and it didn't work
out at all. Here's Brady Quinn LeVar Arrington talk about

(06:22):
the Heisman Trophy.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
You really feel like this should have been a kill Heisman. Yeah,
I think there should have been. Wow, I think there
should have been. I think that he did more than
enough accomplishments wise against legit talent. I know people have
used the fact that he he you know, wasn't doing
it in like a legit you know, conference or whatever,

(06:46):
and that that's probably the difference if you know, I
don't know if you subscribe to the argument point that
if he has the type of season he has in
any of the major major conferences, he wins that that award.
Hand we're talking about gent, Yeah, Gent, if he does it,
didn't like the Big Ten, if he does it in
the Big Twelve, or you know, I don't know, maybe

(07:09):
even the ACC If he does it in one of those,
they say he gets the Heisman. If that's what you
subscribe to, then what like he's he did it against
the number one team in America, Like he throttled down
on Oregon and that's an unbeaten team that's the number
one team in America, Like he's he never disappointed? And

(07:33):
what it is that that he did? And his numbers
are crazy?

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Yeah, I don't understand why would we do a dual Heisman.
What's the purpose of that? Like, pick who you want.
Travis Hunter is the best you know, two way star
we've had, you know, more more so than Charles Woodson.
He's a dominant player on a team that's played well
in a better conference. Ashton Genty's been amazing and probably
better obviously better is if you're running than any one

(08:00):
thing that Travis Hunter does, but combined Travis Hunter to
me is more impressive. I would have voted for him,
But this is why you have voting. What sucks for
Voice is that they played that Mount West Championship game
and I'm and some most of the votes were already in.
So I've always thought that's a flawed system. I've always
thought who you have voting for the Heisman is a

(08:21):
flawed system. But we don't need a dual Heisman vote
for who you want to vote for that that generally
works that way. That's what the Fox says.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Let's find out who are what is annoying? Jason Stewart.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 7 (09:00):
Let's get right into this. Let's get right into the
situation from the weekend. Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy.
You think that he would have an amazing weekend, but
his girlfriend, Lenee, I think it is a fiance leon a.
I don't know if you're familiar with this situation, but
I guess at the Heisman Trophy ceremony. She made it

(09:21):
about herself or Dion made it about her, I guess.
Earlier on in the season, she had a couple of
social media posts criticizing Travis Hunter, and then yesterday at
a autograph signing session, there was video of her looking
like resting bitch face kind of next to him and

(09:43):
giving him attitude for like taking pictures with some of
the autograph seekers. So it just it created this onslaught
online of people being like, you got to get away
from that bitch and all this stuff and talk of
prenup and everything else. Our own VJ Husky he got
in on social media. He says, Travis Hunter needs to

(10:03):
get rid of his girl. Many reasons why, real man
see them all. Trust me, he needs to get rid.
He needs to rid himself of her immediately. You can
tell he's not used to getting certain types of women. Well,
here's the deal. Travis Hunter can make whatever decisions he wants.

(10:25):
He's made more in college than most people making the
pros the first couple of years. Travis Hunter knows himself,
he knows his girl. Here's him defending all the social
media backlash.

Speaker 8 (10:41):
You ain't never had no girl, So why are y'all
talking about me. Find someone else to talk about. Talk
about my girl. Go talk about your girl. Go find
a girl, Go find a life. Someone about what I
got going on. I know what I got.

Speaker 9 (10:54):
I know my girl.

Speaker 8 (10:54):
My girl been with me for five years. Y'all are
just not starting to talk about me and just not
starting to deal with me. Like, come on, man, y'all
go do something else with y'all life clickbait pages. Y'all
better stop. I'm telling y'all, y'all, it's something bad happen
to y'all. Y'all keep doing that. Y'all better stop that.
I ain't playing. Y'all better stop all the clickbaiting pages.
When we were sitting down and I was at my
pupla shop, we was talking about my family. What was

(11:16):
they gonna do while I was in there signing stuff.
I had all my family there, And that's why she
did That's why she said she's gonna stay there so
they can get stuff. That's why she said she's gonna
sit there so she can get so they can get stuff.
Have fun here. She wanted to go back to. They
wanted to go back. Someone want to go back to
the hotel. Some of them did it. Y'all try to
make everything. Y'all want everything for clicks, Like, stop that,

(11:36):
that's crazy.

Speaker 7 (11:38):
What's annoying about this? People who have opinions about other
people's relationships. Uh, the dynamic between two human beings is
complicated and nuanced, and if you're a stranger, shut the
hell up.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Yeah, it's so weird. It's so weird what people feel
is fame? Right now? Is there a portion of it
to understand? You go, Okay, well, maybe it's fair game
because he has her with him all the time, but truthfully,
it's not right. Like, the only thing that usually is

(12:16):
fair game is if it's a beautiful woman. You can
you know, like not cat calls, but you could say
that's a beautiful woman. But even that, like it's I
just I'm not a huge boundary person, but it does
feel like that's a pretty basic boundaries not and making
an assumption. And look, if I was to be asked

(12:37):
my honest opinion about you know, some of the times
in which she's been caught on camera, like, yeah, I
would say I'm not sure she's ready for the lifestyle
that he's already living. And it's only going to get
bigger and bolder. Right, And and by the way, Travis
Hunter seems to be a kid who really really gets

(12:59):
it and has a great way with people. He just
has an energy about him that most stars have. And
if she's not, if those energies don't work, they didn't work,
then they're not gonna work now, right. So I understand
all of that stuff. But if your point is, and
I think it is, that it's none of anybody's business,
I agree with you first and foremost.

Speaker 7 (13:23):
The NFL is annoying. I've listened to a lot of
reasons why I think the product is down, But no,
this is a different angle. This statistical loan tells you
how stupid the NFL is, and how stupid it is
that people go on the air and talk with authority
on how to predict games. There's a very prolific national

(13:45):
host that went over his first four games yesterday, I'm
not going to say who it was after Friday, speaking
with authority and a sense of knowledge about these games,
and he whift on him completely. And here's why you
can't talk with authority or confidence about any predictions. As

(14:06):
it pertains the NFL. This is the stupidest stat Jared
Goff threw for five touchdowns and no interceptions and lost.
He threw for five interceptions earlier in the year, and
one that should tell you all you need to know
about the NFL and how stupid it is, and stop

(14:26):
predicting it.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Pretty good. It is pretty good. It's also what you
just said is also a great point of let's stop
making it always all about the quarterback? All right? What else?

Speaker 2 (14:43):
All right?

Speaker 7 (14:43):
So this might be the if we were to kind
of take the most annoying things of the entire year,
this I think might top the list or make the
top three. And maybe maybe I just thought of something
before the end of the year. Maybe in one of
our last pods we do the most annoying thing of
the year. This isn't recency biased. This is just complete

(15:04):
utter bullshit. Mystic's owner Sheila Johnson felt compelled to go
on CNN late last week and talk about Caitlin Clark,
the Kaitlin Clark effect. This is the question, was what
do you say to people when they give credit to
the rise of the WNBA because of the Caitlin Clark effect.

(15:25):
This is what she said.

Speaker 10 (15:27):
I want to be very diplomatic about this. It's just
the structure of the way media plays out race. I'm
going to be very honest, I feel really bad because
I've seen so many players of color that are equally
as talented and they never got the recognition that they

(15:49):
should have. And I think right now it is time
for that to happen. So last night we read Time
magazine where Caitlin Clark was named Athlete of the Year.
Why couldn't they have put the whole WNBA on that
cover and said, the WNBA is.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
The league of the year.

Speaker 10 (16:10):
Because of all the talent that we have. Because when
you just keep singling out one player, it creates hard feelings,
and so now you're starting to hear stories of racism
within the WNBA, and I don't want to hear that.
We have got to operate and become stronger as a
league and respect everybody that's playing and their talents.

Speaker 7 (16:36):
Now, Doug, I'm guessing you have thoughts on this, but
maybe my bottom line what makes me most annoyed about this.
We talked last week about how Caitlin Clark pandered to
the community, pandered to the league, said something very disingenuine
when she says that she knows that she's at the
place and life because of white privilege. I know she

(16:56):
doesn't believe that, but she said it out loud to pander,
to get down on her knee, and to try to
not take all the credit for this person of the year.
And two days later, an owner of the league completely
ships on all that pandering, and now she looks foolish.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
It's this is the saddest thing I've ever heard in
my life. Like, and it's not the first time something
like that has been said. Who was it? Was it
Jill Biden, remember Joe Biden. She wanted to she wanted
to invite both teams when Iowa t when Iowa lost
to l s U. You know, she wanted she wanted
to both teams, Like, let's just let's just celebrate all

(17:38):
women for their accounlic It's not the way it fucking works. Okay,
it's not the way it works. That's the dumbest fucking
statement I've ever heard. Let's let's just have the League
of the Year. Why why can't why why can't you
accept that it's not the there's no there's no I
know how the media works. Fuck you, fuck you, you dumb,

(18:02):
You're so fucking dumb. Seriously, the media. Do you want
to know how good media works? Hey, good media plays
the hits, what people want to talk about. We find
ways to talk about and the better we are, it's
be interesting about what you're talking about. For the first time.
You and I have been doing this for over twenty years. Hey,

(18:24):
outside of the I miss thing, which was an embarrassment
to the media, heay, outside of the imiss thing. And
oh yeah, by the way, like Imus had said far
worse about a lot of different people. But again I'm
not making it okay, but it's interesting the things that
he said, like Howard Stern, about plenty of people, and
then all of a sudden you say it about a
group of women, and everybody gets everybody gets fired, everybody

(18:48):
gets canceled. Right, So that's the president that we've set.
By the way, Okay, what that says is that women
are a protected class, a protected class. So the truth
is that women have never been or very rarely talked
about in sports in a negative tone on the radio
or television for fear of and granted he was way

(19:09):
over the top, but for fear of all those repercussions.
So the first thing is don't fucking tell me about
how the media works when you're not in it and
you're actually saying what's not correct. Women in sports have
been a protected class for a long time period. Stop
second part, Really good media talks about the hits, okay,

(19:29):
and the numbers don't lie. We can't make up the numbers.
People want to watch Kaitlyn Clark play basketball and they
don't give a shit about any other women playing basketball.
They care a little bit more than they used to
about the rest of the league. They care a lot
about Kaitlyn Clark. It's the same track it across the

(19:50):
board when she was playing college basketball. We can't create that.
We can't make that up. If you're critical of ESPN
for promoting her when she was in I are promoting
her when she's here. They always promote their biggest name stars.
They promoted everything, and they try to shove Angel Reese

(20:10):
down our throats and the numbers don't support it. So
don't fucking tell me about all of these feelings that
you have when the facts remain that really good media
are doing a really good job of telling a really
interesting story that America is captivated on. She just happens
to be white, and as I continue to point out,

(20:31):
Kelsey Plum was setting records when she was at the
University of Washington, Sabrina escue, Okay, they're both white. Sabrina
got to shoot against Steph Curry in the NBA three
point shooting contest, which again is forced. Is dumb. She
hasn't captivated the attention of anybody. Angel Rees got way

(20:52):
more attention than her actual skill deserve. Shes good, offensive
about her dash, but good energy. Sure, but you know
she's just not an offensive threat. She hasn't captivated the
attention of most of Middle America. Caitlin Clark has. We've
had other white ball players that are women. They haven't
captivated the attention. So there's some timing to it, there's
play style to it, there's a lot of things to it.

(21:15):
But please don't tell me it's about the media. Don't
tell me about it's about race. Shut the actual fuck up?
What else?

Speaker 7 (21:22):
Now?

Speaker 2 (21:22):
That's it?

Speaker 7 (21:23):
I think she takes the cake.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
What's your name? Johnson?

Speaker 3 (21:26):
She the Johnson?

Speaker 2 (21:26):
You know, why are we doing this? Because we can?

Speaker 7 (21:39):
I need to need to make a note here. This
was This was said about Justin Herbert before yesterday's lost
to the Bucks. The Chargers suffered really their first bad
loss of the season. But Travis Calcey said this about
Justin Herbert before that game.

Speaker 9 (21:54):
Division Game Men, Division on the line won the division
for the what whatever year against a really fucking good
Chargers team. You can't tell me that Justin Herbert is
one of the best fucking quarterbacks in the National Football League.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Man, Oh, he's really good. They were not good yesterday.
That one was hard to watch, hard to watch. Why
could we play for you because we can? All Right,
that's it for the end of the Mornings podcast. Check
at the radio show every day three to five Eastern
