Speaker 1 (00:03):
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Here's in the bonus
with Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
What a Dog Gottlieb Show. In the bonus Fox Sports Radio,
iHeartRadio app. How are you welcome in? I hope you're
doing great?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yesterday while we were on air, the Commissioner Rob Manfred
Christiraer Major League Baseball change a rule where posthumously, when
somebody dies who is serving a lifetime ban from baseball,
they get reinstated. Right, You're like, well, lifetime ban, your
lifetime's over. Why not reinstate you. I'll give you my

(00:39):
thoughts in a second. First, here are the thoughts of
Rob Parker, of course, is co host of The Odd
Couple but also a contributor to the MLB network.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
I say, no way, no how. And Pete Rose wasn't
fit when he was alive to be in the Hall
of Fame. It doesn't make any sense to me that
he's fit because he's dead. The offenses are still the offenses.
And what's the reason of having rules and then acting
like nothing happened because he passed away. Just none of

(01:12):
it makes any sense to me. I understand partly the
commissioner saying, well, you're taking him.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Off the list because he's not alive anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
But it doesn't mean that he should now go on
the ballot or have a chance to get in the
Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
You know, when you reinstate somebody.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
And here's my biggest point on why I disagree with this.
If we found out that someone was wronged or was
wrongly accused, or we had new evidence that maybe Pete
Rose didn't do it or whatever it was, then you
go in and correct that we have no new evidence.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, I'm complay with Rob as you guys know, and
if you didn't listen to the radio show or the
podcast of the radio show yesterday, just like he never
came clean about when he actually began betting on baseball,
and the reason was it was between eighty four and
eighty six, right, and that was during a time which
he was a player manager. Part of it is, I

(02:13):
don't I think a lot of people don't even know
who's player manager. You know, he did everything he could
to deny, deny, deny, and through the least defensive part
of it. Hey, I only bet on games, you know,
I only bet on us to win. But you didn't
bet on every day. So there's a lot of other
the he was defiant. He tried to profit off of

(02:34):
the fact that he wasn't allowed into the Baseball Hall
of Fame, and even that, like, I don't care about it,
But once you go heal outside of Hulk Hogan, why
do you think we can come back from that? You can't.
So I'm not bringing I know a lot of people
posted things about his personal life. I don't care. That's

(02:55):
not our business. That doesn't land in the purview of
the Hall of Fame. But when you bet on baseball
and you're a player manager in baseball, then that changes
things from me dramatically, And I agree with Rob.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Park be shorre to catch live editions of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Let's get to the Fox Set and now every day
at this time. In the Bonus podcast, it played for
your portion of a previous show on Fox Sports Radio,
a Fox Sports one, here's Dad Patrick talk about Jokich
and the Nuggets.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
If you don't surround Joker, given that he's playing at
the peak of his powers, he won't win another title,
and I believe that he's a great player, and he's
a great player on a good team. Jamal Murray gives
you a couple of games. It feels like every series
where you go all right, it's just not consistent.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Christian Brown is a really good.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
Player, athletic player, you know. But they had depth when
they won the title. You know, Aaron Gordon played really well.
It's just Michael Porter Junior did not play well. They
lack depth here and you're looking at these teams. Now,
Okac has depth, Indiana has depth, like it's really important

(04:15):
this time of the year.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
It is, it is, But you know, part of that
comes from think of those teams you're discussing in terms
of the depth, they haven't been good. So they've been
in the NBA Draft more and they've accumulated more draft picks,
and maybe they also don't have the top end stars, right,
they don't have a Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon and Yokich,
you know, and all that money tied up in those

(04:39):
three guys. I'm with Dan, I think it's a hard
way to live. I'm with Dan that you need to
have better depth and better players around the around the
Denver Nugget Star. But I'm not with Dan if he
thinks that he thinks they can't win with this roster.
They're pretty close right now. They could they use more pop, sure.

(05:00):
I think it's some of the decisions they made, more
than the actual depth of the guys they made it with.
Here is Colin Cowhert talking about Tyrese Halbert.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
They had Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers who just mowed
through Cleveland in five games. They had him as the
most overrated player. I mean, you're a clown. I mean, listen.
He is exactly what an NBA star should be. The
Pacers had six guys in this series average double figures,
and he's not bothered by it. He encourages it. I
could name five NBA stars that wouldn't like that, Like

(05:33):
Embiid Harden.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
They need the ball.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Halliburton doesn't end up with that many assists, but he's
always sharing the ball. He only had I think six
assists last night. It doesn't matter. He controls pace. He's
mature high IQ high EQ. I said this two weeks ago.
Indiana is fun to watch. I don't know how great
they are. They're fun to watch. And the NBA fanboys
have been selling me on Harden and John Murant and

(05:59):
Lamel Ball. They're fun not building my franchise around those guys.
I mean m beating Harden melt in May they just melt.
This kid's been in the playoffs twice. He'll now be
in the Eastern Conference finals for the second time. Because, again,
as sending productive mature doesn't get insecure if you know

(06:22):
a player goes off and he doesn't like he wants
to win the game.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Look, I think he's really good. I love their style.
I love the swagger with each place with Let's see
what happens when they get further and further on into
the playoffs, Right, Let's see because you know some of
the shots selections, some of the decision making, it all
becomes more interesting. And he's going to be going against
a Jalen Brunson, who's of the players remaining in the playoffs.

(06:55):
At least you know he's going to be on anybody's
list is the best guard remaining the playoffs to go against?
But I love tyres Halburton and the swagger, the playmaking,
the shot making and the fact that the Pacers style
not just pressing but also talking trash seems to get
it get under everybody's skin. This is Brady Clinton talking

(07:21):
about the Bengals pass prusher Trey Hendrickson and how the
two sides have stopped talking.

Speaker 6 (07:26):
He's done his part for two years now. He's been
one of the best, if not one of the most
productive sack artists in the game. And it came down
to what the Cincinnati Bengals prioritized. They prioritize Joe Burrow
in the offense, they get the receiver signed, and we
knew that there will probably be an odd man out.

(07:48):
So in this case, it looks like it may be
Trey Hendrickson. It sounds like with everything he's saying he
would like to stay, there's still a bridge there that
they can cross. I don't know if the Vikings came
by and burned it yet, but it's it feels like
there's still a chance they can still rectify the contract situation.
I mean, Miles Garrett, don't want to get traded. You

(08:11):
get a new deal now. He's like, ah, I'm good,
all right, thanks guys. I'm sure it can be the
same with train he wanted, you don't think so he's
out If they've been able to And here's the thing
is that they if they they've been able to shop

(08:31):
a trade. It's complicated because he's going in the last
year of his deal. Whatever team trades for him knows
he wants a new deal. So he's not just having
an issue probably or his agent. He's having an issue
with the Bengals. He's probably having an issue too with
whatever team would propose a trade.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah. I think the basics of it are he wants
more money. I don't think comes down to anything, and
every guy talks like this. I'm not talking anymore walking away,
blah blah blah. They have your rights, You're not going anywhere.
Just negotiate the bitch. You can do a hold in
or a holdout for training camp and eventually the Bengals
that come around. That's my guess. That's what the fuck

(09:13):
said say.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Let's find out who are what is annoying? Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 7 (09:38):
Doug Angel Reese took some questions from the media yesterday.
Remember the WNBA starts on Saturday, so the bitching and
complaining starts on Saturday, and it's our job on this
podcast to call them out on it. So big press
conference yesterday, Angel Reese got the following question.

Speaker 8 (09:59):
Last year, you made a powerful statement saying the reason
people are watching women's basketball is not just because of
one player, but because of you two a year later,
do you feel like you're.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Next question, Yeah, we'll move on, thank you.

Speaker 7 (10:12):
Next question a reporter asking her about something that she
literally said herself, and she's not comfortable answering the question.
This is the woman that was given a podcast. She
does a podcast, and I think it was in the
name of women empowerment. Having the confidence as an independent,
rich woman to speak your mind on a free forum.

(10:36):
Yet you are not able to or don't want to
answer a question about a comment that you yourself set.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Next question.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Yeah, that's what we call chicken shit, I believe is
the appropriate term. Right, isn't that the proper chicken shit?
And but she's been allowed, you know, she's been allowed
to do this, right, she's allowed to set the narrative. Again,

(11:09):
by this point, we know kind of it is what
it is that most of the women's game has gotten
the memo that we like Caitlyn Clark and we can
only learn about you if we watch you when you
so you better celebrate Caitlin Clark and then if you're
better than her, just beat her and we'll watch and whatever.

(11:32):
I think she's gotten that memo, but she's just begrudgingly
accepting it. That's my that's my read on it.

Speaker 7 (11:38):
Oh man, I hope that's the case. I want to
see this conflict all year. I want uh. Rob Manfred,
I don't know what to do with this guy. He
gets a ton of credit for speeding up the game.
This speeding up the game thing, I think is like
a game changer for him. When I think of Rob Manfred,
I think of the guy that gave players immunity so

(12:01):
that he could get all the details on the twenty
seventeen scandal. Not one player received a single fine or suspension,
and the two managers, sorry to coaches Korra and aj Hinch,
are thriving right now as managers. The actual title the

(12:25):
World Series trophy was not taken away from them, so
he handled that very poorly in both the messaging and
any kind of discipline, So I'm always going to kind
of be bitter at this guy. So if he's been
commissioner for what ten to fifteen years now, he boggled
the twenty seventeen scandal, and now he's allowed Pete Rose

(12:48):
to be unbanned, which, just like reading the tea leaves
over the last twenty four hours, extremely unpopular decision.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
So I don't mind when you do things that are unpopular,
which you feel like are the right things. But I
feel like this was an unpopular decision, the most recent
one in an effort to be liked by the right people,
not the right thing. So that that's my issue with it,
right again, And there is some logic behind it, right, Well,

(13:24):
he's it's a lifetime ban, his lifetime's over, but but
that doesn't mean that you should be eligible for the
Hall of Fame. Like it was a hard and fast dance.
And as you and I discussed yesterday, right, like, there's
just something really interesting about Peter Rose admitting to gambling,

(13:45):
but his timeline being completely off, and his timeline's completely off,
you know, for obvious reasons, right, And those reasons are, yeah,
he simply wants to he wants us to not understand
that he was actually betting on baseball when he was
a player manager, thus affecting the actual outcome of games.

(14:06):
So yeah, I gotta think that as a former labor lawyer,
Rob benfred is simply and you know, no one likes lawyers.
People don't. Many of the things he's done people haven't liked.
But my take on it is this most recent thing
is to be liked, but by certain people, not by
the right thing and ultimately winning out in the end.

Speaker 7 (14:29):
Yeah, and so he's going to be judged by those
two major things that he that he did or didn't do.
I have a list of things that I find problematic
about the game, about how it's played, but it's a
bunch of old men, get off my wawn stuff. But
he's allowed it. He's allowed the game to feel and
look differently. He's allowed the umpires, his own umpires, to

(14:53):
look completely stupid when there's technology to erase that part.
And then everyone's going to be like, yeah, but he's
sped up the game and I'm just not gonna fall
for that. When it's time to judge his commissionership whatever
it's called. Lebron James is annoying. He's just made this
segment probably more than anybody because the things he said

(15:14):
last week. We played sound of him on a podcast
telling Steve Nash mostly that he's just not losing sleep
over the playoff loss because there were eight other players
on the team, not even sure what that means. Here
is Donovan Mitchell, who lost on Monday night and he
said this, I haven't.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Been asleep yet, probably watch the game twice. It's tough, man,
It's tough.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
It's just when you accomplish different things throughout the season,
can you feel like you're right there on the coast
and then it and this way is tough.

Speaker 7 (15:50):
So as a Lakers fan, as somebody who lives in LA,
this is one of the reasons why Lebron will never
be embraced by this city, why he hasn't been embraced
because he feels howard to say things out loud that
alienate his own fan base. Donovan Mitchell, whether he means
it or not, whether he's exaggerated or not, at least
he understands the messaging too his fans. That was unacceptable.

(16:13):
We had the best record in the league. I haven't.
Maybe there are some excuses I could offer up right now,
but I haven't. I have not slept since the game.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Well, I think you're right. It's you know, yesterday we
had on.

Speaker 7 (16:29):
Oh gosh, we had on Antonio Daniels.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Antonio Daniels. Stay to Tande's like, look the way heard
here's a but sure guy who's loves his life, loves
his kids, totally balanced as a realistic approach, he's already
done those things. And I think the point you're making
the points fans make, and I think I would agree with,
which is like, all that's great. You're allowed to be balanced,
You're allowed to have an awesome life to understand that

(16:54):
it's not the end of the world. But I'm just
telling you one that's not how That's not that. That's
the part of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan that we loved.
I wasn't. We weren't married to Kobe Bryant or married
to Michael Jordan. Right, It's gott have been hard to

(17:14):
be their kids, to be their spouses. It's probably hard
to be around those people, but they they were ultimate competitors.
And the other part is if you don't care about
the outcome anymore, then you can go retire if you
don't give a shit, don't the The interesting part about

(17:35):
it is the talking about yourself as if you're the
greatest ever, talking about yourself as if you have the
sole desire to compete and win championships. But your actions
and then your words after the fact mean completely the opposite.
So it doesn't mean he doesn't care. It just means
he has balance. I'm not crazy. I'm not gonna lose

(17:58):
my mind over it. But I do think that therein
lies the biggest difference between the Jordan types, the Kobe types,
and the Lebron types. Frankly, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson. They're
much the same, you know. I just it's a hard
one to It's a hard one to tell super competitive
people that I'm really competitive except now because I've done

(18:18):
it and I'm good. Whatever. If that's the place that
you are, maybe it's time that you, don't, you know,
profess to want to lead a city to a championship.

Speaker 7 (18:27):
All right, Time to choose Angel Reese, Rob Manfred Lebron, James.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Oh gosh, Angel Reese is such an easy winner here
because she's so an.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Why are we doing this?

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Why do I.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Because we can.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelcey. I don't think he's fired
up about playing in Brazil. I don't know why he
would be.

Speaker 8 (18:56):
I mean, I'll be there, not to do I'll be
there playing pretty busy in the heat. There's just something
about getting closer to the equator that I don't want
to put on football uniform doing.

Speaker 6 (19:09):
That, especially in September.

Speaker 8 (19:10):
I've been in Jacksonville in September and that's fucking miserable.
I'd rather be dry than humid. I'm a sweaty I
like when I'm definitely.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Water around Soapolo. But I think it's rivers or something
like that, right.

Speaker 8 (19:25):
Yeah, No, I'm if it's hot and humid and kind
of what I'm expecting, I'm going to be miserable. But
we're going to find a way to get a win.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Obviously. You know, guys gonna complain about traveling. That's part
of the deal. When you're a Marquee team, you're gonna
have to do those things. He didn't matter. He didn't
mind going down there to watch his girlfriend performing a concert.
Did he so shouldn't mind doing it for a football game.
Why I could play it for you, because we can't
that's it for the end of Modus Podcast. You got
the radio show three to five Eastern twelve too Pacific,
