Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Heres in
the bonus with Doug Gottlieb.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
What up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Dude, So
tonight is game for the NBA Finals. And again anybody
can say like, oh, it's the biggest game. It is
a big game, and it's big for Oklahoma City, and
(00:33):
you don't want to go down three games to one.
But I will point out that if you go down
three games to one, you do potentially have two games
at home. And I think on paper the better team.
I thought a big issue in Game four for the
thunder Led in the fourth quarter was they played young?
What is playing young me? It doesn't necessarily mean they
(00:54):
played soft. It was just, you know, as good as
Shay Gildess Alexander is. You know in the overtime, I
used to be in the fourth quarter late two bad fadeaways.
Right like when he gets to his spot mid range,
create contact, creates space. You know what he does, pulls up,
shoots the ball like that's kind of his shot. I'm guessing,
(01:16):
you know, with kind of an open ability to release
the ball, he's probably in the sixty percent variety, Like
he's dynamic but pressured fade away baseline right shoulder almost
I mean it. The difference, honestly is like a foot
to a yard. And here's what I mean. Guys talk
(01:37):
about getting to their spots, but it really is, are
there spots like Shaye loves that pull up from right
about the free throw line. If you can push him
one stride further out, his percentage will drop dramatically. Same
thing for his fade away on the baseline drops dramatically.
And I thought Indiana did a great job forcing him
(02:00):
off his spots, especially when he was posting up late.
You have Chet Holmgren who struggled with his jump shot
a lot this year, but they moved him over to
the corner where he's cutting in constantly looking for lobs
late in that game three point shot, and that's because
he was out in the high slot or above the
left wing and lou Dort same thing kind of in
(02:23):
the way. Because he's a non shooter for Oklahoma City
late in games, they're either going to have to play
more shooters in their lineup or figure out ways to
get lou Dort the ball going to the basket or
Chet homeburn dive it in there or those guys got
to make shots because right now Indiana's not carding him.
And then offensively for Indiana, I do think it's as
(02:45):
easy as Tyrese Halburton just needs to be aggressive.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Just this.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
When he's aggressive, when he's taking shots, they're much better offensively.
They actually need his offense to win, which is a
great place for a guard to be because it doesn't
just mean the team has confidence that you can make it.
It's that they lack confidence when you won't take it.
All right, that's a little game for a preview. I
don't know. I don't know who's gonna win. I think
(03:11):
it's gonna be really close. I'm guessing the Thunder win,
get it back to to to two. All they have
to do is win one game and now it gets
to be more kind of traditional finals. Feels like it's
going seven. Uh, but there is something about this Pacer team.
Lots of people talking about Oklahoma City looking like they're
tired in the fourth quarter, and tired in the fourth
quarter means you're gonna it's hard to not be tired.
(03:32):
And we're playing games with only one day off. One
day off, so excited to see what tonight brings.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Let's get to what the Fox says and now I'd
say every day this time the Doug Gottlieb Show. In
the Bonus podcast, let's play for your previous portion of
a FSR show or an FS one show. Here's Dan
Patrick talking about Taylor Swift and Travis kelce being at
game for the Stanley Cup Finals last night.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift did show up, and the
Internet did not treat them kindly because they're like, they
don't have an affiliation with either of these teams. We
don't have to show them fifty times within the first
fifteen minutes of the game. But don't blame Travis Kelcey
and Taylor Swift for going to the game, right. I
(04:30):
don't know, didn't I say something about your sport that
they would like to go and be part of it
watch it?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
I got my Taylor Swift sweatshirt on today, you know,
for the Swifties out there, I'm just happy they're in
love it's still going strong.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yes, ton I.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Didn't have a problem with it.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
But I can see the hockey purists. You have nothing
to do with the Panthers or the oilers, and you
got to all of a sudden be at the Stanley
Cup final, and now TV is going to show them
a million times to get an extra rating point or two.
I can see someone's all in on hockey. They're already
sensitive about a lot of people that don't appreciate their sport.
Now you've got them showing up.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Wait, but you have somebody who is showing up for
your sport. It's the networks who do this. She doesn't
say I'll go, but you must show me fifteen times.
It doesn't work that way. Blame the networks, don't blame
her and him.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
I can't say that I care. Just hockey fan is
honestly the worst. Like hockey fan is the men's sports
version of the WNBA fan, where if you haven't paid
attention in twenty years, you start paying attention and we
don't know what we're talking about and we're looking at
the wrong things. If you like, we'll go back to
(05:43):
not paying attention. If that's what you'd like, here's Chris
Burssard talking about the best landing spot for Kevin Durant KD.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Your rich climb and your manager and the Suns. You're
sitting down trying to figure something out. This is what
baffles me.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
A tag.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
I get that the Suns aren't any good, but Kad
has given off more than vibes of it's not really
about winning.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
I'm not just focused on winning.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Sure, I want to win, but you know what I
really want to do master the game. I want to
be better today than I was yesterday.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
No, but that's his approach. So if that's the approach,
stay at Phoenix.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
I mean, if it's just about mastering the game yourself,
not really about championships. You actually do have a second
star next to you in Devin Booker, Like, stay there.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
It's a great place, Sonny, it's fun.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
You wanted to go there. Stay there. Yeah, he's not
staying there. I mean, you're not making bad points, but
it's just obviously that thing's not working out. It's not
a fit. They need better overall talent, and you have
a it's like mursa Tomay in my cousin Vinnie, there
is basketball clock is ticking over here, here's Colin Cowhard
(07:08):
talking about the New York Knicks.
Speaker 7 (07:10):
My wife used to work in HR and I remember
when I first met her twenty years ago, and she
said something she had worked in the hiring business. She said,
overwhelmingly people fire themselves they know it's coming. Well, I
don't think Tibbs knew it was coming, and I don't
think he fired himself. And here's why I keep hearing this.
(07:30):
You know, the Knicks weren't creative enough offensively the Knicks.
The Knicks made some moves and didn't get better. So
last year, at this time, one calendar year from today,
they had Dante Devenchenzo. They not only had me, he
was their number one three point shooter, they had Julius Randall,
who was their number two playmaker behind Brunson number two
(07:52):
and scoring number.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Two and assists.
Speaker 7 (07:54):
They also had Isaiah Hartenstein, their starting center, big time
energy guy. So any team loses their best three point
shooter in a three point shooting league, their number two
playmaker and a high energy starting center, you would think,
who boy, that's gonna be rough. The Knicks were actually
(08:15):
better in the regular season, went further in the playoffs,
and were actually slightly better offensively in net ratings seven
to five. It's like the Knicks fired their trainer because
they only lost twelve pounds and they wanted to lose fifteen.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, look, I see I honestly see it both ways.
Do I think it's clownish to fire TIBs after they
get further than they've gotten in twenty five years? Absolutely?
Does TIBs have a shorter shelf life than maybe some
of the others, and maybe they topped out also possibly,
(08:55):
But again I the big thing I don't know about
is the players and Brunson's reaction when somebody asked him
if he was the guy for the job after they
lost at the end of their series tells you all
you need to know about where Brunson is. I can't
tell you about the rest of the players. But if
you're sitting there going like they shouldn't have gotten rid
of Julius Randall, well then you didn't pay attention to
(09:15):
the Knicks this year. Carlthene Towns is not without flawed,
Like they are two very talented, flawed players. But I
do think that most people think they're better off with
Carl Towns than they are with Julius Randall. That's what
the Fox said.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
I say, be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Let's find out who What's annoying Jason Stewart.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
And now it's your annoying.
Speaker 8 (09:54):
Doug. I said. I said recently that I really like
Joe Flaco's ladder part of this career here, he's become
an interesting person. When he first came into the league,
he was just kind of this meathead who wasn't very interesting,
said dumb things. But he's evolved, like the grayer, his
beard has gotten the better. An interview here he is
(10:16):
and he really doesn't give a shit. He like, you
know that whole thing a couple of weeks ago, I'm
not here to mentor anybody. I'm I'm here to play football.
I want to be a quarterback. And then he weighed
in on dancing. Now, the context here is this, There
was video and I think somebody was miked up because
I think they had Flacco telling shaduor Sanders who was
(10:38):
dancing during warmups, and Shadu was like, man, you're not
going to dance, and Joe Flacca was like, no, I'm
here to work. It was a great like gen Z
upper millennial moment where he was like, no, when you're
here at work, we're not dancing. We're working. So then
he was asked yesterday about people gen Z tiktoking and dancing.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
Oh, TikTok dances. The fact that people that is different
to this generation. The fact that people want to get
on their phones and show people the most Like that's embarrassing.
You're an adult, like being an adult. It's just like
I I can't wrap my head around that, and like
I get it, Like you have kids, and like you
want to like you want to like have fun with
(11:22):
your kids, Like well, like have fun with your kids
in private.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
You know, That's what I.
Speaker 8 (11:27):
It makes a lot of good points here. I have
been tiktoking and dancing is a big part of that.
I don't know what to think about grown men who
dance on TikTok Doug. I certainly don't disagree with him
when he says that, like during warm ups when they're
they're blaring music into the into the field during practice,
(11:47):
you shouldn't be dancing during practice. That's that's for sure.
Speaker 7 (11:52):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Yeah, it's interesting you're bringing up. I don't know how
I'm supposed to feel either, do. I think some of
it is like cheesy, over the top people trying to be,
you know, cooler than they are or whatever. Yeah, but
I also think there's the if you're doing with your kids,
it's a little different. It feels different, it lands different,
(12:15):
it is different. Yeah, I'm a little torn on that
as well. I don't think there's anything wrong with when
you're warming up as long as you're again, if you're
warming up, you're doing a drill. We play music and
war warming up too, and if it if when you're
in a drill it affects you, well, then we can't
do the music anymore. So I just think it's a
general kind of discipline thing. I like that the music
(12:38):
blaring more so than dudes with their AirPods and listen
to their own music. That's actually a trend that I
hate anyway.
Speaker 8 (12:46):
Has Grace and or Harper talked you into doing a
TikTok where you dance?
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Uh yeah, but that was a couple of years ago.
It's not really you know, they're nineteen. I don't know
they've kind of grace was never into TikTok Harper, it
was several years ago.
Speaker 8 (13:03):
I'm not on snapface and all that.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
I'm not on snapface either.
Speaker 8 (13:09):
Stephen A. Smith was reacting. So Tyreus Haliburton came out
after Game three and basically said, you know, I don't
really listen to what the talking heads say. You know,
none of them really, you know, most of them hadn't
even played basketball, So I don't care what they say,
and I don't listen to them. So, of course, stephen A. Now,
(13:31):
stephen A, I'm gonna make a Carly Simon reference here.
I know most of our listeners don't know who that is.
But she was like a kind of a rock and
roll chick in the seventies and she wrote a song
called You're So Vain, and it's actually brilliant. The chorus
is You're so vain. You probably think this song is
about you. And I think that's that's great use of words,
(13:56):
because because the song is about him and he's saying
she saying you're so van you probably think the song
is about him, and he's right, but he is, he
is vain. So stephen A. Of course, when a player
on a large platform, calls out, quote the talking heads,
what does steven A think he's talking about me? You know,
stephen A, there's there's only one center of the universe.
(14:17):
In the entire universe is one center of it, and
it's not you. So after that mic drop comment I
just made, here, is stephen A making it about him?
Speaker 9 (14:28):
Oh by the way, just in case he was talking
about me, my brother, I'm not going.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Away, No you're not.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
I'm going to be here for a while.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
He sit read the news.
Speaker 10 (14:44):
I'm gonna be here for a while. So next year,
the year after that, and a year after that, and
the year after that, I'm going to be here. And
players far more accomplished and far more superior have made
their efforts trying to call me he out.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
How has that worked out? Yeah? Yeah, I mean, uh,
you don't need a PR team when you're a biggest
fan of yourself. I don't. Is that that the part
that's annoying.
Speaker 8 (15:16):
Yeah, the entire thing that I said, setting it up like, yep,
he made it about him.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
He always makes it about him, And then.
Speaker 8 (15:23):
Him making it about him means that he like gotten
down into the mud with him. Because remember when Lebron
James went on Pat McAfee and did talk radio guy
for one day. He just kind of did a fly
by helicopter in uh, talk radio talk shit about people.
I said at the time, I said, stephen A does
(15:44):
this for a living. You're not going to win this battle.
So stephen A took this upon himself to basically tell
tyresee know your place, don't get into this talk space
with us.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
One of my choices, steven A, Who's he's made this,
He's made the he's made this list the number one, uh,
probably more than anybody else.
Speaker 8 (16:08):
Who else dancing on TikTok. And then I wanted to
ramp you up on your thoughts on Game four of
the Stanley Cup Finals.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
That are annoying.
Speaker 8 (16:23):
You said, perfect example, Oh yeah, yeah, I hate about.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah the hockey hockey person. Yeah. I
think that's the That's actually a great point that you
brought up. And I don't know if I have if
I'm gonna formulate this best into an argument so you
can help me out. I don't need the hard sale
(16:51):
on hockey. There's there's nothing wrong with hockey. Zero. It's
a great sport. You just understand that like it runs
in concurrence with basketball. It starts when the NFL's going.
Ninety five percent of our country did not has never
(17:13):
played hockey ever except for in a video game, which
is probably, honestly, the best version of the sport is
in video game. It's probably the best video game sport
if you really want to get down to it. But
all that aside, I just I don't want the hard
sale and I don't want to be lectured. There's nothing
(17:36):
better than overtime hockey. Like I don't know, I watched
overtime last night. I've watched all the overtimes, and I
can tell you, like last night, the better team didn't win. Now, again,
some of that's the beautia the sports, but a lot
of that is the randomness of goal scoring in hockey.
It's just random. So but again, the big thing is hockey.
(17:57):
Person is an and you know, politicians have become this way.
We've talked about Trump and the you're either all in
and it's the greatest thing ever, or you're a hater
or you're an idiot, or you don't know. And what
does Travis Kelcey do? Like, who cares if Travis Kelcey
is there great Soundbary. It's so different than in basket.
(18:18):
In the WNBA. We talk about it all the time
with Caitlin Clark, like if the biggest pop star in
the world shows up at your event. And again, I
don't care about Rando's on social media, but the last
thing we should care about is people who don't get
that it's only good for the sport. So yeah, I
am kind of fired up. Hockey guy. I get that
(18:40):
you love your sport, but the hard sale or the
you don't get hockey, don't talk about hockey. Fine, I
won't talk about hockey, but you're annoying.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Why are we doing this?
Speaker 8 (18:58):
Because we can new feature, new feature on the podcast
and I'm excited to announce.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Feature, new feature.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
I'm gonna on every Friday play the best sound of
the week, the best choice of the week, for because
we can. I don't think this's got enough love. Because
Caitlin Clark's not in playing any games. Nobody's paying attention
to these ladies. Kelsey Plumb after a game, motherfucked the
(19:30):
uh the referees. You never see this in like actual
sports because you're not supposed to do it, Kelsey Plumb
on Monday, So to.
Speaker 11 (19:42):
Shoot six three dogs is fucking absurd. And I got
scratches on my face, I got scratched on my body,
and these guards on the other team get these ticky
tag fowls, and I'm sick of it. I get vould
that every possession RAKII is fouling that in the post
all the time, and they don't call it, and I
don't know what else to do, Like it's really frustrating though.
I mean, there's multiple shots at the end of the game,
(20:04):
either go into the third into the fourth where they're
just coming in fucking swinging and they just don't call anything.
And I don't understand how that's six free toes playing
forty minutes touching the paint almost every play is absurd,
is absurd, and so I'm saying, like I'll get fine
for that, and that's fine, but I mean, and I
(20:24):
needed to make more shots like late game. But I mean,
they're founding this shit out of me every single play.
So I'm very frustrated with that and I'm sick of it.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
I'm sick of it.
Speaker 11 (20:34):
I don't know what I need to do. I talk
to the rest of nice, I pray before the game,
like fuck I'm over it.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Oh it's so good, so good, it's just venting. That
actually sounds like me in the locker room, in our
coach's locker room after a game, like just what do
I do? Do I call these guys and complain? Do
I make a big show? Do I get thrown out
of the game? So what do I do? I'm so
fucking sick of it. I love it well, I can
(21:03):
play for you because we can't. That's it for the
end the Modus Podcast. Check out the radio show three
to five Eastern Teto Pacific, Fox Sports Tradio, Ihart Radio app.
I'm Doug Gottlieb.
