Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug gottlie Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug gottlie.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What a Doug GOTTLIEB show in the Bonus Fox Sports Radio,
I Art Radio. Ah oh oh. So I always find

(00:31):
it interesting this time year, right, always, always always find
it interesting this time of year when we're trying to
figure out, uh, what to pay attention to. Obviously, NBA
trade market, NBA resigning market, that's interesting. NFL we got
the Jalen Ramsey news. This on the back of the
Aaron Rodgers news. And then you look at Major League

(00:55):
Baseball it still feels early to make definitive states. It's
about what's interesting. And I was watching the UFC the
Aternet and I was trying to figure out what about
the broadcast makes it so good. And I think there's

(01:16):
a couple of things. Rogan is probably the weakest part
in the postmatch interviews, only in that he doesn't actually
interview somebody. He does the for the most part, he
does the talk stop give him the microphone thing. But
because he's so invested in the sport, and plus he's
such so respected as a podcaster that it gets guys

(01:40):
kind of talking. So no one would ever show that
tape and go this is how you do it, but
it still kind of works. And then obviously you got
Daniel Corbier, who friend of mine been on the show
Okla Mistake Guy. He's been a champion, but he has
just such a high likability. And then Anik is so underrated.

(02:02):
Also again heavy investment, heavy passion, heavy knowledge, but stays
out of the way and just gets in just enough.
I think it's really interesting in that individually, maybe it
doesn't work, but collectively I would make the case that
that might be in the conversation. It's in the conversation

(02:25):
of the best broadcast team in sports. I bett broadcast
team like Eikman and Buck are really really good, and
I think they're way better on ESPN Franklin than they
were on Fox. There's I think it's because they go
way more in depth on ESPN. I don't know if

(02:46):
they were discouraged from a on Fox. We've talked a
lot about you know, Romo. You know, you could say
Romo's like Cormier, but Romo isn't as invested, you don't
think anymore in the football and Nance is incredible, but
Nance seems to be a little over the robo thing,
whereas previously he used to help him out. It's just

(03:09):
interesting to listen to broadcast teams of why things work together,
you know, and I think that one really works. Plus
I enjoyed the fights on.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Sorry.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Let's Get to with the Fox Says and now every day,
this time in the Bonus podcast, play for you a
previous portion by Fox Sports Radio or Fox Sports One Show.
Here's Dan Byer and Mike Harmon. They had this exchange
about Lebron.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
This statement sure sounded like it's a farewell to the
Lakers after this season. It wasn't even a Lebron is
excited for the twenty five twenty six season.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Running it back with Luca.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Yeah, trying to bring a title back to l and
win number eighteen. Now, there was none of that's he
knows they're building for the future. He understands that he
values a realistic chance. Thanks to the last eight years,
it's been great. That's the statement. So to me, Lebron, Rich,
Paul and everybody with Clutch Sports, got the message the

(04:20):
Lakers don't want Lebron back after this season and they're
ready to move on. And so now Lebron and the
Lakers likely have to pivot as well. And Lebron, I
don't think it has any desire to quit after the
season or retire after the season. So I just think
that this sets up the stage for New York could
be a possibility. Cleveland, I think would been the fairy tale.

(04:41):
That's what I've always felt like, how about signing a
one year deal to go to back to Cleveland and
just do a farewell tour. Problem is is the Cavs
are really good in playing for an NBA title, so
you know, are in contention. So do you want to
does he is he added the piece or is this
a distraction? But I just don't think he's back with
the Lakers after this upcoming season from everything that this
state and said.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
We talked about this in the radio show, and I
think now is a good time as well. You know,
there are certain things in which in my in my life,
I let people slide, right. There are certain things which
I'm more okay with than others are. Right, Like I'm

(05:25):
not big on if you overdress or underdress. You know,
I'm just not I don't need fakeness. You know, you
don't always have to bring a gift when you come
to my house. Like those things I don't give a
shit about. But the one thing, or there is one
thing that I have found in both my personal and

(05:49):
professional life that I just I really struggle with, and
that is people who I believe are not grateful when
you go above and beyond for somebody. I think Lebron,
James and Rich Paul look like complete and utter assholes

(06:12):
out of this thing, complete and utter assholes. And here's
how I get to that. Okay, the statement of we
want to win a championship. Okay, then why did you
opt into a deal? If you want to win a
championship and you want to do it in LA, then

(06:35):
you sign it. You scrap that deal, opt out, sign
a new deal. Hey, maybe make it a two year
deal with a player option and backload it, right, and
backload it so that you can make ten million dollars
this year. You still are close to a billionaire. Now,

(06:56):
you might say Lebron doesn't know that to Lakers pull
fuck shit, he's been with the Lakers for seven seasons,
seven of them. Yes, they won a championship, that's great. Yes,
he became the all time scoring leader, that's great. This year,
I believe he'll be the all time games played leader

(07:16):
as well. Okay, all those things you can sell and
market make money. But what have the Lakers done for him?
Well recently, despite the fact that I believe five of
those seven seasons, he's missed a huge chunk of the
regular season and some of it has limited them from

(07:37):
reaching the postseason. And look, that's what happens when you
take on an older player. So it happens to you
take on a old player, but they keep signing up
for They drafted Bronnie, they played Bronnie, they hired JJ Reddick.
All of these things were done with one person in mind.
And what this is, this is powdy ass bullshit. They

(08:00):
go out and they get Luca and don't underestimate what
Rich Paul is really bitching about. Anthony Davis is reat
by Rich Paul. That was a deal, which, by the way,
they did because Lebron wanted Anthony Davis. Lebron thought they
could win with Anthony Davis, and Anthony Davis was great.
When they won, and then the last couple of years

(08:21):
he finally got in shape. But Anthony Davis was a
bit of a pain in the ass and they overpaid
for him dramatically. Remember they weren't gonna go get Russell Westbrook.
Lebron James wanted it. They did all these things for
Lebron James. And how does Lebron James repay them by
having his agent, who's a mouthpiece for him, say hey,
we want to win a championship that looks like next

(08:43):
year will be somewhere else? Like, are you fucking kidding me? Yeah?
I just again, I don't have time for ungrateful people.
It doesn't mean you have to be fake in your
gratefulness and be so thankful that it just feels awkward
and cheesy. But that shit is some bullshit. I think

(09:05):
everybody knows it. Here's Colin Coward talking about the Steelers
as they traded for Jalen Ramsey.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
So the Steelers can't stop spending money on defense. So
this morning, what do you know, bounce around the league
guy Jalen Ramsey twenty six and a half million dollars.
The Steelers went and got him. Now, they did move
off of Minca Fitzpatrick. But Minca is low maintenance, seven
million dollars a year, cheaper, a leader in the room,

(09:34):
not a bounce around the league guy. So the Steelers
can't help themselves. Now they're spending seven and a half
million dollars more than they were yesterday in the secondary.
And for the record, Pittsburgh has led the NFL in
defensive spending three years in a row. This will guarantee
it's four. The New York Giants and the Steelers spend

(09:56):
all their money on defense. You know who spends it
on offense? The Rams and the Eagles have the two
cheapest defenses today, and the Chiefs spend the most money
in the league on offense. Chiefs, Steelers, Rams.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
What do they have in common?

Speaker 5 (10:10):
Momentum, winning, perpetually interesting In the NFL, everybody's got a budget,
it's called the cap. Where do you spend their money?

Speaker 6 (10:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Again, I think the Jalen Ramsey. Jalen Rams is a
good player, but you only get him when you're gonna
go for it, and it's always a short term relationship.
The Steelers are going all in on this season. That's
what that deal signifies to me. No chance he lasts
long term with the Steelers, and I think that's you know,

(10:43):
And the other part is the Dolphins had terrible culture
from about four or five guys, and those four or five,
you know tybreek Hill, who he's surrounded by, and Jalen
Ramsey's gone because there was like three or four guys
that they couldn't coach, and Jalen Ramsey's one of them.
Here's Jonas Knocks and var Arrington talk about the Jets.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
I don't know how you come away with any other
conclusion with this much, this many different coaches, this many
different quarterbacks, this many different gms. There's constant change. The
only thing that stays the same is the stuff up top.

Speaker 8 (11:19):
There you go, thank God the way around that.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
And I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
At some point, like if you're if you're a Jets.

Speaker 7 (11:27):
Fan, get excited all you want and say, oh, you know,
we we didn't need Rogers and there's all this, and
you know we didn't need Robert Sala was this and
he was It's all right. You keep pointing at all
the other issues except for the major one, which is
it's the same people running the show and it's the

(11:48):
same results every time.

Speaker 8 (11:49):
If you make it. If you make it that simple,
then you're able to come up with your conclusion. Right
at what point in time do you say, with all
of the lack of success, that it has to be
the culture of the place. Like, that's as simple as
it gets. You can only come up with the conclusion

(12:10):
of it has to be the culture starting with the
person who owns it. Whatever tone that is that that
person sets.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
I agree, it's whatever tone that person sets. I agree
that ownership sets a tone as well. The Jets have
always seemingly had this kind of cycle of being a mess.
So and look, LeVar having been to the league, he
knows what it's like. And I think Jonas is a
great sense of it. Yes, that the culture is everything,

(12:43):
and what they allowed to slide on defense became a
slide on offense, the acquiescing to your quarterback, all of
those things. But a new coach, a new system, new guys,
a chance to reset. That's what the Fox said.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Do say short of catch live editions of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Let's find out who what's annoying Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Hey, Doug, I want to talk about this Lebron thing,
just strictly from a an eye test and how he's
received by LA fans, Laker fans. And I tried to
put a finger on it. You said last week, you
know he is, he's in LA, but he's not of LA.
You know, he's been here seven years now and he

(13:41):
really has not connected with the fans. And it just
struck me this is this is all transactional and it's
not emotional. In other words, if you're a single man
and you're dating a single woman and both of you
have transactional aspects about your relation, you take me out

(14:01):
to eat, I'll have sex with you. You guys are
both happy. There's nothing emotional. It's all transactional. That reminds
me of Lebron James and Laker fans. It's kind of
like the uh dinosaurs in our business who think that
just showing up and opening the mic is good enough.
They don't have to put a lot of work into it.
You just you're gonna want to hear my opinion, and

(14:24):
you're going to be happy with it. And I'm not
going to include you in the conversation. I'm not going
to interact with you. There's not going to be an
emotional connection. It's going to be transactional. You turn on
your radio and you get the pleasure of hearing my voice.
I think that's what this whole thing has been about,

(14:44):
including yesterday's announcement and Rich Paul's weird statement, this is
all transactional.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
I agree. I yes, I think the exact way you
put it is brilliant. Let me make it a little bit.
I understand your transactional relationship or that you're proposing, right
man a woman, you know, maybe the better way is
when a guy's been married a bunch of times, there's
not the it doesn't mean as much, right, that's what

(15:12):
you're saying as well, Right, it doesn't mean as much.
And I have been married. I was married for twenty years,
and so I think, you know, it's like once you're married,
it's like a third time, It's like it does. I
think it diminishes the first time. Lebron James has been
on so many different teams and he's had this done

(15:32):
this thing for so many times that it doesn't mean
that much to him, and what he misses on is
what the Lakers mean to the Los Angeles sports fan, right,
and it's because for our lifetime. And I moved to
Los Angeles or southern California in nineteen eighty one. Okay,

(15:54):
think about how many championships I've seen. I'm any great
players I've seen and Magic only played for one team,
Kobe only played for one team. Magic only played for
one team. Kobe only played for one team. And now
you have a dude that comes in and has the
fucking balls to say, hey, we want to win a

(16:14):
championship and it not be about winning a championship with
the Lakers. I mean, it's amazing the backfires when people
don't get LA. They don't get LA. It actually reminds
me of Sports Center LA. Right where Sports Center LA. I.

(16:36):
I know, you know, some people have their feelings about Stan.
I like Stan, and then I liked what was God
just edit this out. No, it is Linko and it's uh,
it's the dude who is He's from Spokane, but he
they hired Stan Forrett and Neil Everett. Now I love both.
I actually like both those guys. Neil's quirk, he's from Spokane.

(17:02):
Dad was a bud high school basketball coach. He spent
time in Hawaii, so he had all the Hawaii lines.
Stan is from New Orleans, huge golfer. I know some
people aren't huge stand fans because he became kind of
super welcome on social media. You know, I'm not gonna
comment on what made people this way. Whatever happened in

(17:23):
their lives. They may have felt like may felt like
this is their moment in which their problems of the
past could be heard. That said, it's a massive backfire
when you hire people who aren't from LA to represent LA.
It's fucking stupid, right, It's stupid. So I think that's Lebron.

(17:46):
And what's amazing about it is I think they'll ultimately
give him the statue. I think they'll ultimately retire his
number and do all those things. But it will not
be He is not gonna be Kobe Bryant. Now he's regarded,
especially if he plays anywhere else, any of it. If
he doesn't play anywhere else, who this is not gonna end.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Well, it's just it's so bold to me that he's
he's almost given no effort towards trying to build an
emotional connection. It's been amazing, Like, it's just I'm Lebron
James in me, You're gonna be more relevant and you
might win a couple of titles, and I'm not gonna

(18:29):
have any connection with you because I don't need to.
And every single step he makes is about Lebron's brand.
It's not a further connection with the fans. In fact,
I think yesterday he made more enemies in town. Angel
Reese is annoying for this reason, Doug, this is very
annoying for me to admit this. I'm coming around on
Angel Reese. I'm coming around on her, and it's not

(18:53):
because she has had a couple good games in a
row here, but this is what she said after yesterday's
I think record breaking number of rebounds in a game
against the Sparks.

Speaker 9 (19:04):
A lot of times when I get the rebound last year,
maybe one game this year, I will go right back
up and being three people around me. And now we
have amazing shooters where I can just kick it out.
They make it three and that's why I had some assists.
So I think it just leads to points. I mean,
when you get rebounds, it's just never a negative, like
when somebody can't stop you on the boards. I mean,

(19:26):
at least the more points for us.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
I look at it as positive.

Speaker 9 (19:29):
Everybody as a negative, but I look.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
At it as a positive.

Speaker 9 (19:31):
Only have four roll boards, so it wasn't just a
new bound tonight.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
I'm going to ignore the fact that, just like I
pointed out last week, no sound from the WNBA is professional.
They need to fix their shit. It's always secondhand. It's
a cell phone recording of a microphone somewhere of pa.

Speaker 6 (19:50):
It's awful.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
But what she basically said was I only had four
offensive rebounds. Only four rebounds, And I'm like, so, if
you're going to be interesting to me, you need to
be self deprecating. And that, to me, spoke to how
self diffrecant she was. And I just learned today that
she not only copyrighted me Bounced, but for every single

(20:11):
thing that she sells that says me bound on it,
she's giving to a charity that she's starting for cyberbullying.
Like that's smart. So whoever's in her camp that made
that decision, that's smart to me. I'm not gonna forgive
the victimhood thing. She constantly goes to that, but she's
I'm coming around on Angel Reeves, Doug, and that's annoying

(20:32):
to me.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
I think what you heard there was when you strip
away the bullshit and you just get to the basketball player.
And this is what I found in coaching as well.
You know, it's like, my guys are good dudes, they're
all bright, they all have hopes, they all have dreams.
Whatever your perception is, a college basketall players is usually
far more negative than actually is. And I think the

(20:56):
same thing with Anchel rees Again, I don't think it's
as much angelies that sound like a really thoughtful, interesting
young woman who gets that, like, yeah, I could go up,
but I got three or four people, I spray it
and now we step in jump shots. I liked it.
I haven't watched enough to say I'm coming around, but
based upon that Q and A, I'm there with you.

(21:18):
I understand why you're annoyed, because it's a lot easier
when she would say stupid shit.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
I am still annoyed, by the way, but the WNBA
sucks at given a sound, and we are a sound medium.
So if you take a closer look at this sound, okay,
it's not enough that it's like second or third generation
cell phone of a recording of a PA somebody felt
the need to drop a massive pipe in the middle
of what you were saying.

Speaker 9 (21:42):
I mean, when you get rebounds, it's negative like that
was awesome, well done.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
What is going on back there, Malik Beasley Doug If
the feds are what's the old saying that the Feds
are onto you? You're going to prison. The Feds have
walked in on Malik bees It looks like he, I
don't know, shaved some points or did something for gambling
reasons on the court. I don't know much about this player.

(22:08):
You can give me all your thoughts on this, but
I will say this. The annoying part is this. I
never thought that the Johntay Porter thing got enough attention
or criticism. I never thought that. I mean, I grew
up in an era where Pete Rose was ostracized. It
was made a big deal. It's the worst thing you
could do to a sport. It deteriorates the fabric of

(22:31):
trust in your fans. If you're gambling on the game.
Johntay Porter looks like he even admitted to if I'm
not mistaken, gambling on himself and not doing things specifically
in a game to alter the outcome of the game,
and it didn't really get a lot of attention. I
didn't think that the Tim Donnahy thing back when he

(22:52):
liked I think he wrote a book based on how
referees alter the scores of games. So I want, for once,
if Malik Beasley turns into this thing, I need there
to be more attention and more criticism on this. We
seem to gloss over it because I think most most
people just don't want it to be true, so they

(23:12):
don't they don't know how disruptive or harmful it could be.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
I think that's very true, really true. So what are you?
What are you? What's annoying to you about it?

Speaker 3 (23:27):
I'm annoying that Malik Beasley will likely get the same
attention that John de Porter did, which was not a lot.
And again, why are we not giving more attention to
how detrimental stuff like this is to a sport, like
we did with Pete Rose for many decades. Why is
it just kind of a news cycle thing like gone

(23:49):
the next week.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
I don't think it's going to be gone the next week.
But I also think Pete Rose the all time hit king.
He's a huge name of huge personality. Malie Beasley is
a guy who's kind of bounced around the league, and
he's most known for his uh his extra extra level

(24:12):
stuff off the court with with various women right up
until this point. But yeah, dude, like when the Feds
are after you, I just think this is such a
recipe for disaster. You know, it's that guys, everybody, every
guy I knows on their phone too much. You throw
in gambling, you give people that, you give people ungodly

(24:33):
sums of money. Every every guy thinks they'll never get caught,
and yeah he's caught. He's going to jail. And you know,
playing at the end of games and trying to score
points to hit hit a number. Uh who could who
could have seen it coming?

Speaker 4 (24:51):
Everybody?

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Everybody. So I'm annoyed that athletes have been allowed to
gamble on anything, because once you allow guys, once they
get it's like a dog, once you get the taste
of blood, it doesn't matter if it's a kittie cat
or a port chop, They're going for it. So what's
most so that I think Lebron's the most annoying again,

(25:12):
ungrateful people. He appears to be incredible. He appears to
be even great.

Speaker 6 (25:18):
Yeah, you're annoying.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Why are we doing this? Because we can, Doug. I
don't know if you watched the Jake Paul fight. I didn't.
I felt like shit the last time when I fell
for the Mike Tyson thing and watched it, and then
afterwards I hated myself because I said I wouldn't watch it,

(25:42):
and then I did watch it, and I hated that
I watched it. But before Jake Paul's most recent sham
of a fight, he didn't appearance on Pierce Morgan's show.
And this is some of the most brilliant sound we're
ever gonna play. You have to give this this, This
is great Jake Paul. You have to give this to him.
I don't know how much of a fighter he is,

(26:02):
but he is amazingly quick on his feet when it
comes to verbal barrages. Right, go ahead, I'm the killer.

Speaker 6 (26:10):
I get in the ring with the best people, and
you get in the ring with a guy who's fifties,
literally nearly as old as me. The only proper boxer
you thought was Tommy Fear, and he be.

Speaker 10 (26:19):
Fought multiple boxers with professional records, including Mike Tyson himself.

Speaker 6 (26:23):
Peak Tyson, you wouldn't have lasted ten seconds.

Speaker 10 (26:26):
And you versus going to the gym, you're still a
fat ass. We can make up hypotheticals. You should go
to the gym if you oh, if you went to
the gym, you would be twice this week. You don't
think I can beat Mike Tyson. I don't think you
go to the gym.

Speaker 6 (26:39):
I think you're a great YouTuber.

Speaker 10 (26:41):
You think that your opinion matters, Well.

Speaker 6 (26:44):
Why are you doing much show if it doesn't.

Speaker 10 (26:45):
Oh, I'm just taking your audience to sell pay per views.
I don't give a fuck about you, dumb ass. This
is a fucking business enterprise.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Wow. It was impressive how quick he was on his
feet and the honesty comes out. But wow, Well I
can play it for you because we can. All Right,
