Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
The Doug Gottlieb Show. Heres in the Bonus with Doug.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Gottlip Doug Gottlieb showing the bonus Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio
app Welcome in. I have had people tell me wrong,
and I've been wrong about things in the past. But
you know what, we don't do good enough job of
We don't do good do good enough job of things
when we're right. Honestly, it's the biggest difference to Democrats

(00:30):
and Republicans. You know that Jay sdu that Republicans, when
they get something right, they shout it from the shout
it from there, and even when they get shit wrong,
they claim that it's right. Democrats they always get things right.
They don't they're they're sometimes wrong as well, but when
they get things right, they never celebrated. I think the
biggest thing, for example, is universal healthcare also known as Obamacare,

(00:53):
and because it was called Obamacare four years Republicans ran
against it. And then it turns out that the what
is it called the basically versus healthcare Plan, I forget
what it's actually called. People like that. People don't like Obamacare.
It's the same fucking thing. But Republicans have trained you

(01:13):
to hate the word Obamacare. It's just it's again. Part
of it is we're not actually surrounded by the smartest
and least impressionable people. But the health like Obamacare is
actually people that have it really like it because at
the time it was expensive, but what it did was

(01:35):
it put a ceiling on how expensive it could be.
And now if you don't have insurance, it's crazy expensive.
So anyway, point is that Democrats, on their few wins,
they don't know how to celebrate it. They're always playing defense.
Republicans are always on the offensive. On their few wins,
they celebrate. So I'm going to be like a Republican today, right,

(01:57):
whether a Republican or Democratic, I'm just going to celebrate
I win. I told you Damian Lillard wouldn't fucking work,
and he didn't work. And it does suck that he
tours Achilles Tenant, and it does suck that they he
got released today. And yeah, I'm sure Yannis is a
little his feelies are a little hurt because that was
Yanni's his whole deal. Hey man, I we'll get you

(02:17):
Damian Lillard. But Damian Lillard is just not a championship player.
He just wasn't. And you know, just because a guy
can score thirty a game on a below on a
team that qualified for the playoffs, doesn't mean he can

(02:39):
score thirty a game when he's on a team trying
to win in the playoffs. And you know, look those
guys that are stars in their own little feetdom those guys.
When you put him on a team or when somebody
else's team, sometimes it doesn't work. And I don't think

(03:00):
he stayed too long. I don't think he was like wow,
you know, it'd he gone a couple of years ago,
earlier in Portland. Like no, he was never a particularly
good defender. He's never a particularly good finisher. And he
got away with Paul George said it. The shot that
he hit against the Thunder, it was a bad shot.
He made it. He's always it's dame time. It's a
signature shot in the NBA. But too many of those

(03:23):
and you end up losing playoff games. But we try
and do fantasy sports. We try and do fantasy basketball
with real basketball. Oh well, he averages thirty. You add
him to Giannis, he can shoot, it'll work. No, not
a winning player. You're better off with Drew Holliday, who
you know, at his peak average like eighteen a game,
but did all the little things that takes to win
a championship. Anyway, I'm celebrating my wins because guys that

(03:49):
have gotten wrong, things that have gotten wrong. People act
like it's the end of the world, when there's been
plenty of rights. That's one of them.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox

Speaker 3 (04:03):
App Let's Get to the Buck says, and now every
day at this time that Doug got THEIB show in
the Bonus podcast it played for a previous portion of
Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports One Show. This is Dan
Patrick talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
You're all in on this year, this trade bringing Ramsey in,
Smith in, you got you know, Aaron Rodgers obviously, and
DK Metcalf the movie like this is in but is
it You're all in if you don't have TJ. Watt in.
So I would say the Steelers did pretty well yesterday

(04:43):
because when the when the trade was announced, it was
Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Steelers. Then all of
a sudden, chefty filled in you know the other stuff,
and that is Mika Fitzpatrick gonna go to the Dolphins.
And then you're also getting another weapon for Aaron Rodgers
and John new Smith felt like that was a win,
at least a temporary win for the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yeah, we talked about this yesterday. This is the Steelers
very unstealer like trying to win this year, right, Aaron Rodgers,
go out and get a DK Metcalf, go out and
get a John Smith, go out and keep TJ Watt,
but don't extend him like they're pushing their chips in.
And they're the conservative, really smart poker player, really smart

(05:29):
blackjack player that's choosing, Ah, you know what, every once
in a while, let's go, let's go for it. And
now they believe is their time. Maybe it's because Aaron
Rodgers give them one of your window. Maybe it's because
they're tired of just being above average. I don't actually know.
They haven't come out and said it, but it's very
obvious that that's their plan. And I think though we

(05:49):
may disagree with the pieces they're putting in place or
how close they actually are what Aaron Rodgers is like
you could have whatever feelings, you can't deny that this
is their plan. It matches with their quarterback, and they'll
figure out tomorrow tomorrow, But for today, dealers are going
for it. Here's Rob Parker talking about Lebron.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
For years, I've said I would never give any money
back for years, but when it comes to Lebron and
his unique situation, he's the one where the money. You're
not playing all these years just to play out the string,
so you need help, you need other players. It doesn't

(06:32):
make sense to me at all why you would need
to pick up all that money when you need other
pieces and you saw what happened last postseason. Do you
want to play twenty three years and only win four championships?

Speaker 6 (06:44):
Like the longer you.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Play we talked about this, the worse it looks because
it ain't nothing special about four championships in twenty three
I don't care how many times you went. Four championships
in twenty three years is not that impressive. So I
think he's made a big mistake. It doesn't sound like
he's really trying to win to me, because I would
be working closely with the Lakers. What do you need
from me? In order for us to get another piece,

(07:07):
and you know what I mean, and really trying to
work to get this out. All the other players, no,
let them figure it out. But Lebron in his situation,
his age, is no way in the world he should
just be taking the most money that's going to hinder
the organization.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah, there is something, There is something there, and again
we'll have to see how it plays out. But one
of the things that's interesting is is what rich Paul's
saying simply to cover up the fact that Lebron doesn't
give a damn about winning anymore. Right, Because if you
really cared about winning, and you're willing to do it

(07:46):
elsewhere or willing to do it in LA first, it's
not giving money. You're not giving any money back. No
one suggesting that you don't still make a ton of money.
And this is how you divvy it up. By picking
up your own option, you have locked yourself into making
fifty three million dollars this year. Had you not picked
up the option, you would had the leverage of Okay,

(08:08):
I can negotiate with any team at any price whatever
I want, and you can still make that money, or
you can only you can backload the contract and make
you know, the second or third year a player option,
and ultimately when you retire, you can you know, you
can have them buy you out of it. You can.
There's there's all different sorts of ways in which they
can then buy you way out and stretch it or whatever,

(08:28):
so you're still getting paid. So there is part of
me that went to sleep last night thinking maybe this
is the old bait and switch, right, Like you say, oh,
you want to win, you want to win, you want
to win. The reality is, yeah, you do whatever, you
just you want. You want to win the narrative and
not win the real battle, or it's just completely contradictory.

(08:49):
If you want to win and want to win a championship,
you're not a fifty three million dollar player in this
salary cap with that team. Period. Stop this. Also, by
the way, one thing that should get put to bed
is please stop saying Lebron James is still a top
five top ten player. If he was a top five
top ten player and you have another top five player

(09:11):
on the team, then they should be everyone's favorite to
win a championship. They're not because Lebron's still very good
and for his age, he's incredible, but he's not a
top five, top ten player. Please stop saying it. Here's
Colin Calhert and Chase McIntyre. They had this exchange.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
Congratulations Colin, you have been named to the twenty twenty
five class of the Radio Hall of Fame.

Speaker 7 (09:32):
When I was seven years old, my mom bought me
a transistor radio and that's all I ever wanted to
do was radio. I grew up in a small town.
There wasn't cable television. Radio is what I always wanted
to do. So sometimes things in your life lineup. Also,
thank you to all the people. I woke up and
there was a lot of probably about twenty thirty texts,
and it's increased. I'll get to all of them. Thank you.
People are very kind. I was one of the lucky

(09:54):
ones that this is what I wanted to do for
a living, and it just happened to line up and
I got to do what I wanted to do, been
a good life. Grateful for it.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Yeah. I mean, if Colin's not in the Radio Hall
of Fame, then nobody should be. He's an incredible talent
and also really dedicated to the craft. That's probably the
best part. Like Colin and I talk just about every weekend,
and usually it's more of me listing in him throwing
out ideas for topics, but somehow kind of try and

(10:25):
make them like their conversations they're not. But yeah, Colin,
Colin and Dan, those guys are absolute legends. They do
it differently but still super effectively. But I would say
that you can't have a radio Hall of Fame and
not have him in it. That's what the Fox said say.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Let's find out who or what is annoying Jason Stewart.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 8 (11:08):
Doug helped me solve this, this riddle or this puzzle here.
I'd never understand this, and it seems to be increasing
with every year. It's Bobby Bonia Day for those that
don't know. This is the day that Bobby Bonia gets
like a one point seven million dollars. He's had that
arrangement for the last thirty years. I think he's got

(11:28):
another ten to fifteen years to go. It's a unique arrangement.
I get it. Bobby Bonia was a pretty good player
for the Pirates and Mets back in the day. I
think he won a title with the Marlins. But I
don't get the amount of attention this gets. And I'm
I'm gonna throw a guess at you. It's always like
the slowest part of the sports here, the slowest week

(11:52):
of the sports year, I think. But when you have
like Schefter and the likes of like, you know, crossover guy,
guys that don't necessarily do baseball as newsmakers, and even
Andrew Brant has the take on it today, Happy Bobby
Bonia Day, he says, I don't get that. It's kind
of annoying me that I don't have an exact answer

(12:13):
to that. Why is Bobby Bonia Day such a revered
day for people that follow sports?

Speaker 3 (12:21):
I think it's the same reason that people we talk
about the Jets as much as we talk about the Jets.
Do you know what that is?

Speaker 8 (12:33):
Talk about the Jets because people that went to Syracuse,
like the Orangeman.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Yeah, people that people that grew up on Long Island
like the Jets, the Mets, the Knicks, the Islanders are Rangers.
And despite the fact that none of those sports teams
within their own kind of realms should be talked about
that much they are. And yeah, I just think it's

(13:02):
one a guy's getting paid. Guy who we have the
people don't remember played baseball is still getting paid a
million dollars a year, but mostly he played for the
New York Mets, you know, and the Mets are still
paying him when reality is that had all of that
money that was deferred, had he taken it up front
and then just put it in the market, it'd be
worth more money today. But that's whatever. That's how we

(13:25):
decide to cover it.

Speaker 8 (13:27):
There's a I mean, I'll take that theory as as
reputable as anything I could think of.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
I just my entire well, it's like, why do we
talk about why do we talk about the Jets every
off season? Every off season? And when I say, you're like, well,
wh wouldn't shoots the NFL like, okay, well we don't
talk about the Jaguars, we don't talk about I mean,
there's about fifteen teams we don't spend any time talking
about who have been more successful. Seahawks, for example, they've
been more successful than the Jets over the past fifteen years,

(13:57):
not close. Why don't we Why do we talk about
the jy because they're in New York. Yeah, but I
think a lot of it comes down to, like again
on ESPN, who talks about the Jets? My Greenberg? Why, well,
guess what now he went to Northwestern right? But Jewish
guy uh from Long Island, I think, and yeah, he

(14:17):
covers he talks about the Jets. You know, Jason McIntyre, right,
New York guy, Jets fan. Those are the guys that
have kind of made it in Adam Shine, right, doesn't
he do serious? Xm Adam Shine, new Yorker. I don't
know if Shine grew up in the city or grew

(14:38):
up on a Lea Island. But Syracuse guy talks about
the Mets, the Jets, the Knicks, et cetera. Those guys
have national voices, but they're really New Yorkers.

Speaker 8 (14:47):
That's why interesting. So this broke right after we went
off there yesterday. Dan Buyer sent us a group text
saying that the WNBA players, as part of their All
Star contribution, I guess players have a say and who
gets voted to be the All Star. Caitlin Clark was
voted by her peers as the ninth best guard in

(15:11):
the WNBA. And if you don't think that's bullshit, then
you should read Dick fi Tell's timeline. Dick VI, tell
who you know personally you've been known to do Dick
VI tell impersonation everyone.

Speaker 6 (15:25):
Oh, it's also let me tell you.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Let me tell you about Jason Stewart, Jason Jase Stu
wait wit for Jim Row, Jim Robbins like the chef's
key of radio.

Speaker 8 (15:36):
Sorry, So Dick has had some health issues of recent years,
and he's he's healthy, and he's tweeting and he obviously
likes I think the cloud that he got. So this
is the first one he got. This is the first
one he sent out yesterday. It's absurd the way the
number of players in the WNBA have treated Caitlin Clark
so sad, but I bet they love their charter flights,

(15:57):
the increase in salaries, the crowds, the TV ratings. No doubt,
she is the best thing to happen to the WNBA.
And you're like, holy shit, that's kind of out of nowhere,
Dick fi tells. Usually, mister positive, he uplifts people. But no,
he wasn't done Doug today or later yesterday, absolutely pure
jealousy that WNBA players voted Kitlin Clark the ninth best guard.

(16:20):
Someday they we'll realize that what she has done for
all the players in the NBA. So if your first
reaction wasn't vitriolic enough that WNBA players are petty losers,
just listen to dick Y tell the most positive guy
in the history of the world.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Did you see Did you see the Kelsey Plumb video?
Have you seen that?

Speaker 8 (16:48):
IOWI Sam wanted to add that to this annoying her?

Speaker 9 (16:50):
So you're talking about her coming up to the This
is that the Sparks Sky game of the weekend. A
fan wearing a Caitlin Clark shirt is like, let's do
a picture, and then she throws a Spark shirt, arises,
put this on. She basically in first, put this on
over your that shirt, and then she says, yeah, do
better next time, do better.

Speaker 6 (17:11):
I get it.

Speaker 9 (17:11):
I get her side of it, but also like, do better.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
How do you get her? How do you get her
side of it her?

Speaker 9 (17:16):
Because she's wearing she's wearing a shirt. It's like you're
wearing you're wearing wearing a shirt, you're wearing, you wearing
a shirt. Hold on, you're wearing a shirt to a
game where that player is not playing on either team.
So that's her perspective.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
Yeah, I mean again, like, how many kids wear Steph
Curry jerseys everywhere they go regards to the city a lot,
even Lebron obviously as well. Like, would do you think
any NBA player would go up to a guy, a
kid who comes to a game as wearing a Lebron
jersey and it's like, yo, what are you doing? Lebron's

(17:54):
not playing tonight.

Speaker 9 (17:55):
I don't know if the player would respond that way though,
who's taking there?

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Of course they would.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
That's the point Sam, that we're all making, which is
this is there's nothing as petty as a woman, nothing
is jealous as a woman. They just they I mean,
and look, here's Kelsey Plumb. Here's the reality. She was
every bit the college player of Caitlyn Clark. And by

(18:21):
the way, how many times have I used her in
the argument against Well? She only gets attention because he's whit.
I say, Blum's white. She's homegrown, attractive, young woman, brown hair.
You know, like, like you could make all of the
arguments outside of being from the Midwest that you make
about Caitlyn Clark was a she was as good or

(18:43):
better as a score because she was I think a
little bit more efficient. Right now, she didn't take the
logo threes. I don't think she's the pastor of Kaitlin Clark.
But she was a hell of a player, really good player,
and received a fraction of the attention. And she scored
over three I think thirty three hundred points in college.

Speaker 9 (18:59):
She was the women's all time leading scorer until Kayln
replaced her.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Sure, So the point is the point is that this
is exactly what we think it is. It's complete and
utter jealousy. And when dick Y Tale states it, when
all of us are like, like, what are they doing?
It is what we think it is. It's hard to watch,

(19:23):
hard to watch, it's annoying. What else?

Speaker 8 (19:25):
Speaking of petty, annoying women, Rosie O'Donnell. If you remember
Rosie O'Donnell, she gained fame as a comedian and talk
show host, had her own show. I think she moved
out of the country because she hates our country and
our government. I think she's in Great Britain right now.

(19:47):
She said this or wrote this on Instagram. The Bezos wedding.
It turned my stomach seeing all these billionaires gathering in
the gross excess of it, all the show of it.
And then she goes on just be like, is Oprah
even friends with him? That's gross? And he has disdain
for his employees. By any metric, he is not a

(20:08):
nice man. Rosie O'Donnell I thought Donald Trump put an
end to her with his rant from a few years back,
one of the Alzheimer's. But I will say this, I've
never understood the criticism of people that spend excessively, Like
would you rather Jeff Bezos keep his money in an

(20:31):
interest accruing bank account or spend fifty million dollars on
vendors and the local economy in Venice? They need to,
like pay the climate god so that their city isn't
underwater in ten years? Would you rather him not give
to the economy? You just want him to keep his
I've never understood the criticism that people spend excessively. And

(20:54):
by the way, Bezos won. Here. If you're on the
opposite side of Rosie O'Donnell, you win no matter what.
And if you don't believe me, here's Donald Trump from
fifteen years ago.

Speaker 10 (21:05):
She gave us this statement executive she's the executive producer,
co host. She said, Donald Trump, this is Barbara. Donald
Trump is a personal friend of mine, has been a
good friend of the View for many years. I'm sorry
there's friction between Donald and Rosie. That said, I do
not regret for one moment my choice to hire Rosie
o'donald as the moderator of the View. I certainly hope
and expect that this tempest will pass quickly. Your comment

(21:29):
on that, Donald, well, I can.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Tell you for a fact that that's not what Barbara
told me. Barbara is not a fan of Rosie. She's
embarrassed by Rosie. She doesn't like Rosie, and I guess
she can't say that publicly, but Trustbularry, that's what she
told me over the phone.

Speaker 11 (21:46):
Rosie is a loser. She talks like a truck driver.
Take a look at her. She's a slob. She's basically
a disaster.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
So who's the most annoying.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
We're all a.

Speaker 11 (22:02):
Little chubby, but Rosie's just worse than most of.

Speaker 8 (22:04):
Us w NBA players, Bobby Bonia Day or Rosie O'Donnell.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
I think Bobby Bonia Day, I think Biona day. Alan
Iverson also, by the way, gets it. I think he
gets maybe a million or more, and it's it's kind
of saved his life because he ran through all his money.
But the fact that we cover it mostly because he's
a format is annoying.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Why are we doing this because we can?

Speaker 8 (22:48):
Dan Bayer tells me this guy's name is Tyrol Tyrol Hatton.
Tyrol Hatton sounds like he's from the UK. I could
be wrong on this. He made new over the weekend
when he was caught on a hot mic in the
middle of his live tour performance.

Speaker 12 (23:06):
His second shot at the par five seventh. As we
mentioned before, he's seven under par for his second round
and he's got into fourth and plate's overall at five
on that What a tie for fourth anyway?

Speaker 6 (23:18):
With what hole on the planet? That is fucking bullshit.

Speaker 8 (23:30):
So Hatton is English. That sounds like he's out of right,
out of like a Guy Ritchie movie. It sounds like
you're you're gonna hear like you.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Don't throw the fight, and we're gonna wring your neck.

Speaker 8 (23:42):
We're gonna put a gun to your head and shoot
you right in the face. So good play that against him.

Speaker 12 (23:50):
His second shot at the par five seventh. As we
mentioned before, he's seven under par for his second round
and he's got into fourth and plate's overall at five
on that Oh well, a tie for fourth anyway.

Speaker 6 (24:06):
What hole on the planet that is fucking bullshit.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
So good? Why can we play for you? Because we can.
