Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug gottli Show. Here in
the bonus with Doug Gottlieb.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
What I was telling them it was Fox Sports Radio.
I heart radio app So I'm here to settle a debate. Okay,
here to settle debate. Uh, it's a debate that's lasted
for ages. And having lived on one body of water
(00:34):
and close to another body of water for a better,
bigger portion of my life, I think I can settle
the debate. It's not Coker Pepsi, it's not Chevy or Ford.
It's beat your Lake, Beacherlake. And I'm gonna be honest
with you. I think in terms of vibe, it's beach
(00:57):
and just hanging out at us. It's beach because what
you have with a beach is you have usually you know,
beachside not only restaurants, but places to stay, places you know,
places to live, you know, beach communities where you know,
(01:20):
in the summer it comes alive and everybody's riding their
bike or now their e bike or their scooter or whatever,
dogs walking. You know. It's just it feels the vibe
feels good. And I've been to places where last summer,
first time I ever been to Traverse City. Obviously, I
live on the Lake Lakes. Though there can be coves
that have restaurants, coves that have different sort of beachy communities.
(01:45):
They're not really the same vibe as a beach. But
in terms of participation on it's a lake, and it's
not even close. Right, the water is generally warmer, you
can do more things. It takes less skill to participate
pit whereas we in the ocean it's dangerous. You can
(02:06):
only surf at certain times. Not everybody can surf, and
there is a certain level to which surfing can't take place.
Whereas again, if you have a boat, you can be
pulled on a tube. Yes, you could water ski, you
could wake board, you could wake surf. You know, they
have these mats now where you can kind of kids
can go and lay out and play in the water.
There's some you can tie up your boats. But again
(02:28):
when you type your boats, that cuts away anything on
the shore, any sort of restaurant, any sort of vibe.
You got to bring your own food, bring your own
bring your own beverages, bring your own entertainment vibe. It's
a beach. It's not close. Participation in water sport and
being on the and the or in the water. It's
a lake and it's not actually close.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug gott
Leab Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Let the Foxes and Now say every day at this
time in the Bonus Podcast and The Doug Gottlib Show,
Fox Sports Radio iHeartRadio app we play for you a
previous version or previous portion of a Fox Sports Radio
or a Fox Sports One show. We call it what
(03:20):
does the Fox Sake? This is? This is Rob Parker
talking about the Knicks.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
If I'm a New York Knicks fan today, I am melancholy.
I am a Debbie Downer. I am distraught because Mike Brown.
Really this will be like his fifth time being a
head coach, and very seldom does a coach win a
championship after making that many stops. Okay, it just normally
(03:53):
doesn't happen that way. I can think of one guy
it's happened too, and that's about it, off the top
of my head, who made numerous stops and won later
on in his career. So the Knicks wanted Larry Brown,
but I think they got closer to Charlie Brown by
hiring Mike Brown. I mean, Larry Brown did it. Larry
(04:15):
Brown won the Pistons with the championship with the Pistons
later after being with a lot of teams.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
But he ain't Larry Brown.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Larry Brown also won a championship in college. Larry Brown's
the only coach who won in the NBA and in
college basketball. So you're talking about a select group. Mike
Brown hasn't won anything, zero zip NAWA. They thought they
had something going and Sacramento couldn't win the big game, right.
There were a couple of times where you thought the
(04:42):
King's gonna advance, They're gonna beat the up Warriors and
move on.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
No way, No, how, Yeah, I don't. I mean, here's
my issue with rob Okay, and it's like, I don't
like Mike Brown for the jobs. Pisico what he's saying. Now,
My Brown's been in an NBA finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He's been the Eastern Conference finals, and I mean, you
(05:07):
can say they didn't win the big game in Sacramento.
Sacramento saw success they hadn't seen in a couple of decades.
When he was there, So I mean, everything is relative.
My biggest issue with my biggest issue with what Rob's
(05:30):
saying is what is the suggestion of who they should
have hired. What's the suggestion of who you should have hired. Now,
if it was, Hey, I don't think you should have
fired Tips, that's fine. We do know that Tom Tibodau
has never even been to the NBA finals, so that
was his first conference finals. So if your suggestion is
(05:53):
there's nothing wrong with Tips, you didn't have to fire him, okay.
If your suggestion is there's somebody else out there that
better fits what they need, okay. But if it's like, hey,
just Mike Brown's not good enough, because I don't think
Mike Brown's good enough, you know, can you tell me
specifically what Mike Brown does and does not do so
(06:16):
that you know, you know, you know, I'm not sure,
not sure. Here's Paul Pierce talking about the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
You talking about one of the most hated and cheered
sports player of this generation who still sells out the
arena and for one Brook Lopez probably went to the
Clippers in all honesty because they offered him more money
and he wanted to be in La It wasn't the
uncertainty of Lebron. We know Lebron is probably gonna be
(06:49):
as last year one, maybe two, or even if they
decide to trade Lebron, which I doubt because he has
a trade clause and he has to okay it. This
has nothing to do would having a Lebron problem. This
has everything to do with situation you're gonna be in
playing time when it comes to free agents, and because
who wouldn't want to be a Laker? Who wouldn't want
(07:10):
to play for Luca. Lebron has brought everything he could
to this Laker organization. He's brought a championship. So the
problem is not Lebron if anything like he said, the
problem is the Lakers. Are they going to do anything
to get better what he's brought to the city of
Los Angeles. He's brought tears, he's brought joy. Let this
man live. If this is gonna be his final walk?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, again, here's the issue with all of these guys
talking about Lebron, James, all these guys. If Lebron wanted
to walk to be somewhere else, don't sign extension or
don't sign the player option. And by the way, if
Lebron is as good as some would lead you believe,
(07:50):
then why does he need to go anywhere else? Anyway?
You know why if you have two top ten players
and some people think he's in the top ten, well
then why would you Why would you think you can't
win a championship? Now we know the truth of truth
is that he's just not anymore. It's okay, like he's
forty years old. Some of his stats are a little
bit hollow. There are times he's still very good, still
(08:14):
one of the top I don't know, twenty five to
thirty players in the NBA. Not as much a two
way players used to be. And this is to me,
it's a super strange it's super strange waving of the
white flag. It's the woe is me suddenly now it's
(08:36):
Luca's team, not mine. So I'm going to tell you
I need to go to somewhere else. I don't think
they're winning anything. I don't think DeAndre Jordan isn't a
particularly good defensive player. He is a very good pick
and role player, but he's a pick and roll and
catch and finish guy. He's not an above the room
guy the way that Luca usually likes to play. Doesn't
(08:57):
mean Luca can't adjust. But in order for Luca to
be great, he needs somebody who protects the room. DeAndre
doesn't really do that. He needs somebody who finishes at
the room. Deandrew doesn't really do that. Is he an
upgrade over what they had? Yeah, and look, if they
want to trade Lebron, if Bron gets drests, fine, But
(09:19):
we do realize that if he wanted to be somewhere else,
all he had to do was not opt into his
player option. And if he was a top ten player,
to top ten players and pretty much anything else, you
got a chance to win. They don't. Here's the var
(09:39):
Arrington talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
What can Pittsburgh do? Pittsburgh? And this creates an interesting
conversation Jonas, because I want to throw it out at
you and see how you feel about it and try
to make some sense of it. They have a pretty
decent defense. Their defense is not bad if they weren't
to lose TJ Watt, We've had the conversation. I don't
(10:02):
think it can happen, shouldn't be a conversation, but with
some of the recent things I've heard swirling around rumor. Wise,
it's worth the conversation if you were to get rid
of TJ. Watt because you felt as though giving him
a long term contract doesn't serve the Pittsburgh Steelers in
a way where one you're going to get the amount
(10:25):
of production that you want for the amount of time
that you wanted for and two it may make it
difficult to trade him if you wait and give him
a new contract and try to trade him under the
new contract.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
That he has.
Speaker 6 (10:40):
If right now you feel like this is the best
time to unload TJ. Watt because it's that year early
before it's a year too late.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yeah, I don't think they're unloading anything with TJ. Watt,
would be my opinion. Just it doesn't make sense this
time of year. It doesn't make six sense in general.
And it appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers are going all
in and then they'll figure it out, right, because if
you have a player under contract in the NFL, you
can always franchise tag them. There's there's I mean, the
(11:14):
contracts are binding, but we think we think of them
like other kind of like real contracts that you and
I have where and honestly, I don't know how many
people know this. Media contracts honestly have like franchise tags
where they can hold ONDI as one as long as
they want to hold on, as long as they match
whoever bids up bids for you. But regardless, that's a
(11:35):
that's an aside. The bigger point is, I just I
understand what LeVar is kind of looking at at TJ.
Watt's contract, like he'll be a free agent next year
and he won't. He could be franchise tag. They can
continue to have his rights, pay him an exordinate fee.
And again, if you look at everything else Pittsburgh's doing,
(11:58):
they're aligning with Aaron Rodgers, which says it is my
last year and they want to go for it. That's
what the Fox said.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Say.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekday. He's at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Let's find out who what is annoying? Jason Stewart.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
And now it's your annoying, Hey, Doug.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Bronnie James, the son of a Brown, was caught by
reporters yesterday and they asked him about his old man.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
Actually, one of my friends called me talking about what
I was going to do because they've seen my dad whatever.
I didn't see it.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
He called me.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
I was like, yeah, I have no idea what was
talking about.
Speaker 7 (12:45):
So I don't really pay attention to that stuff.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
So we don't really not much. But when stuff like
that does come up, he just tells me to not
worry about it, not even pay attentions. Who are just
happening what you have going on right now?
Speaker 4 (12:57):
You know, I believe Brownie, I don't. I don't think
that he has quite picked up the lion trait that
his datus. I don't think that they talk about this
because Bronni's good, Bronni got paid, Bronni's about to start
a second summer league. He's in a league that he
doesn't belong in, and he's good. But it reminds me.
The annoying part here is it reminds me of just
(13:19):
how crappy Lebron is to Laker fans. Right, he leveraged
this thing to get a Sun drafted and paid, and
just a year later he's playing leverage games. It's just
a reminder of how shitty a guy Lebron is to
Laker fans.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Yeah, I agree with you on the second part. I
don't think he particularly cares about Laker fans or about
being a Laker. It doesn't mean anything to him, and again,
it doesn't mean anything to a lot of guys that
have even played for the played for NBA teams. I
(13:58):
do think the Lakers are a little different because of
the historic nature of the franchise, the number of titles,
just everything about it is it's unique and special. Okay,
and guy, do I think it matters that much to Shaq? Now?
Probably not because Shaq became a team jumper Orlando to
(14:19):
Lakers than to whoever the highest bidder was, to Miami
or whatever. But I do think that as time he
articulates that it meant more to him than maybe at
the moment it did not. But there's it's a very special,
very unique franchise. There's only one Lakers. They're the Yankees
(14:40):
of the NBA. And you might say, well, hold on,
the Celtics, you know, are right there in titles one.
That's true. The Celtics are also very special, very special.
They don't have the glamour to the Lakers. And if anything,
Lebron should have an appreciation for what it what the
(15:00):
partnership with the Lakers has done, for all of his
production company being in la et cetera, et cetera. But
the part about Bronnie not knowing, I also think is accurate.
But I just think that that's kind of part of
the plan, like, hey, I'm gonna take area. You just
poop and we'll figure it out. And the idea that
(15:26):
I just I know enough people in that organization that know, Okay, Lebron,
if you're only about winning championships, were why did you
force the hand of the Lakers with drafting Bronni That
has was not a championship move. It was not, It
(15:48):
was not. And I would guess that in this very
very small possible percentage of chance that they trade Lebron James,
they're gonna get rid of Brownie too and just wash
their hands of it, because it does not sit well
(16:10):
with a lot of people there, like, what are we doing?
We have a G League team where the guy first
wasn't traveling on the road, and then we're playing him
way more minutes than his play dictates, and it became
about developing one guy, whereas that's not the idea of
the G League having a G League franchise, So it's interesting.
(16:31):
And again I have told no ill will towards any
of them. It's just the reality of the situation. Who
else annoys you?
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Nancy Lieberman. I think she's a Hall of Famer. I
know her name, so she must have been a big deal.
I'm guessing at some point she was a really big deal.
Nancy Lieberman played basketball at some point at a high level.
Maybe she was a coach. She was on TMZ Sports Now.
Sophie Cunningham made news this week because she was like,
are we growing too fast? The WNBA. She took a
(17:03):
measured approach to this, and then she took a shot
at like Detroit and Cleveland, and Nancy Lieberman took up
for Detroit.
Speaker 8 (17:11):
I would joke with her that you might want to
talk to Lebron, you might want to Brent Hill in
the seventy six eries. You might want to talk to
Julius and Chuck and Allen Iverson. If she were there,
she would understand the fandom and the support and how
(17:32):
loyal those cities are to their fan.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Base, so loyal that I think two of these cities
she mentioned lost franchise is because of just pure lack
of interest. Right, one of the teams was pretty good,
but they couldn't even find a buyer. Annoying about this
entire expansion thing. Is your opinion on this, which is
we've already kind of seen this with the NHL, and
(17:57):
you and I have been in this long enough to
know that this is going to grow too fast. There's
not another Caitlin Clark in the pipeline, and I don't
know if if her popularity can carry all these all
these extra teams.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yeah, I mean this is the issue with I've seen
Sophie Cunningham be put in the line of fire with
a lot of people. You know, you got Cleveland Cavaliers, Like,
Cleveland's awesome in the summer, Like, how can you say
that when you're in Indianapolis. First of all, why can't anyone
just deal with reality in Indiana, for example, they say
(18:35):
there's four in any other state in forty nine other states.
It's just basketball. You know, Indiana is a basketball hotbed.
And again, you can question all you want about Indianapolis
in the summer, but they're putting eighteen thousand a night
to see her, Right, that's a reality. So it's it's working,
(18:57):
and she may not articulated it well enough. And there
was a little bit of the WNBA player entitlement, like, boy,
people really like playing in Miami better, Like dude, you
don't actually get to pick where the franchise goes. But
there's also a point to it. I thought the Nashville
thing is and the Kansas City thing are totally accurate.
(19:19):
Keep in mind, she's from Missouri, she played at Missouri,
and Kansas City built this beautiful downtown arena. They played
the Big Toll Championships there. But I mean that is
the type of place that would embrace the right players
in the right WNBA team. And Nashville kind of same thing,
right where you've had unbelievable women's college basketball synonymous with
(19:41):
the state of Tennessee. It's, you know, Nashville is a
major metropolis and they don't have an NBA team, they
do have an arena, and it is it's like the
you know, nash Vegas. It's a vacation spot even in
the summer. It actually like it's not that hard to go.
I guess she's probably right there. The Miami one would
(20:02):
be the one be like, E don't know, they've had.
You know, there's lots of sports have not drawn well
in Miami. That feels like, Hey, I just like to
party and go out Miami. That'd be a cooler spot.
Although summer sounds kind of miserable anyway. Uh yeah, I mean,
no one likes being told hey, that's a bad idea.
(20:22):
And we have this defense over Detroit, which I've never understood.
We're giving them another Final four? Why are we giving
Detroit another Final four? Nobody wants to fucking be in
Detroit in March in early April. They don't stop giving
them Super Bowl, stop giving them all the stuff, start,
stop trying to make something out of nothing. I've had
friends that live in Detroit and they're like, hey, the
(20:44):
suburbs are awesome. It's a really nice city. Cleveland, same thing.
But again, if I'm starting from a scratch and we've
already tried Detroit and Cleveland, move on right, try something different.
And I actually think Sophie's dead on right about too
of the spots.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
So that and uh, Bronnie James reminded me of how
annoying his dad is. UHH, choose between those two.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
I think the Nancy Nancy Lieberman thing I like Nancy
a lot. She's nice, She's always been cool to me. TJ.
Her Son was hell of a player at Richmond. Like
they're they're they're not bad people, but again, taking this
super defensive stance over what's been proven to not work previously,
and you know, make Sophie Conning Cam out to be
(21:30):
some bad person. Plus, you know, Sophie Cunningham is the
protector of Caitlyn Clark. I think we need to be
the show that protects Sophie Cunningham. You guys okay with that?
I know you are, and for that you're annoying.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Why are we doing this because we can?
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Hey, Doug Travis Kelcey was on the Bustle with the
Boys podcast. Ye, total funny story.
Speaker 7 (21:59):
It was that two thou was just that first year playing,
So it wasn't thirteen, it was fourteen, but it was
like my first couple of games playing and I had
like maybe ten catches up to this point in my career.
And I'm going into Lambeau and I'm thinking, this is Lamba,
this is my moment. This is where I'm gonna fucking
people are gonna know me after this, I'm all hyped
up and fired up to play. I see Clay Matthew.
(22:19):
I'm just like, oh, this fucking Clay Matthew. His arms
are way bigger in person than they are on TV,
and they are fucking enormous on TV. And it's like
the backside of a fucking outside zone and I'm chasing
them down. I kind of give him a hit and
I'm like, yeah, motherfucker, and he stops squares up to me.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
He says, don't fucking ever fucking talk to me.
Speaker 7 (22:36):
I'll fucking kill you, or something something along the line
blah blah blah blah, I'll fucking kill you.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
And I was just like, I couldn't even say anything
after that.
Speaker 7 (22:47):
I'm just like, dude, they're just playing ball.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Yeah, little shit. Ah, so good, so so good, Oh good.
I love it. Why can you play it for you?
Only right here because we can. That's it for the
