Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Here's in
the bonus with Doug Gottlieb.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
What of Doug Gottlieb's show and the button at Fox
Sports Radio? What was up?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
So?
Speaker 4 (00:28):
I watched the All Star Game last night, and I'll
tell you something I noticed. Did you see what happened
when Jacob Zowski came in and threw a ninety five
mile an hour slider? Yeah, dudes in the other dugout
were freaking out, freaking out, freaking out, and as they should,
(00:58):
because that kid is ridiculous, ridiculous, so incredibly talented. But bajorly,
Baseball's All Star Game is kind of weird, right because
all so.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Many of the stars.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Are in the game of the first couple winnings and
they shut it down and then you have like who
deciding who wins these All Star games. The big takeaway, though,
is that abshis just the automated balls and strikes. That
thing works. We don't need to wait. They've been testing
(01:34):
it using in the minor leagues.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
It works.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
We all knew it works, and now everybody sees it works,
and it's pretty seamless. I don't understand what we're waiting
for I truly do not does anybody really yeah, I
don't think so, Like, just install it, just get it done.
It doesn't really affect the umpires. It actually shows how
hard it is to umpire, if anything you know really
(02:02):
does shows how hard it is to umpire when you
watch and the difference in a ball and a strike
is a ball just barely clipping the zone. Honestly, my
big takeaway last night was this actually really helps umpires
and helps how hard it's been to umpire games for
(02:24):
a long time, because I remember there was one that
was low, like, no way, it's a strike, touch at
the top of his helmet. Watch the replay, sure enough,
top of the ball, clip the bottom of the zone,
piece of cake, and you're like, wow, that was actually
a really good, accurate call, well done. Whereas the NFL
feels like right now, officials don't make a lot of
(02:47):
calls because they don't want to be contradicted by replay.
In Major League Baseball, they have to call a ball
and or strike. But the margin is so slight that
I think it actually helps helps the helps empires.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Short of Catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb Show
weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
App Let's get the Fuck says and now.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Every day this time that Doug gotlib showing the Motus
podcast played for your portion of previous show on Fox
Sports Radio Fox Sports One. Here's Colin Cowhard talk about
the Major League Baseball Star Game.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
I know I'm gonna sound like a homer, but the
Fox production on that broadcast last night was magnificent, a
masterclass in TV production. Between that the ABS system, lots
of runs. Let's talk about it. Because major League Baseball
a couple of years ago got over itself and decided
let's lean into entertainment. They didn't need to revolutionize. They
(03:48):
just kind of needed to retro fit. What the twenty
three year olds and thirty one year olds, what do
they want to watch? Home run derby ratings up last night,
I'm sure ratings will be significantly up. Miking Clayton Kershaw
a legend are Sandy Kofax miking him. I could have
sat and watched that for an hour. Again, didn't need
(04:10):
to revolutionize the sport. Speed it up, retro fit it,
make moments, big events that felt big last night that's
the best All Star game in any sport I've watched
in five or six years.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Okay, yeah, I'll here. I'll be honest. I watched last
night and I did rather enjoy it. But I don't
watch other All Star games. So if Collin's in the
same boat, he's not lying. I thought it was a
good production. I think Fox always does a good job
of baseball. I thought that Eric Cosmer, like having a
(04:48):
problem with Misowski being asked by, asked the question about
people's comments. Know like it was the right question. You know,
Rosenthal asked the question in the in the dugout about
how he was treated considering some of their comments.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
So I thought it was good.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
I thought the you know, here's the here's the big thing.
You'll hear people, and I think Colin watches a little
bit of baseball, but you'll hear people saying these things
about baseball because they haven't watched baseball. Baseball is better,
it's better watch, it's faster, and ABS does work. I
just don't know why it's taking them so long to
implement it. Here's Jason Smith talking about Kaitlyn Clark.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
It's funny because you know, I listened to Doug Gottlieb
talk about this a couple of weeks ago and say, listen,
women's basketball is really difficult to be officiated for a
bunch of different reasons, and it was great points on
it going. Look, obviously Doug d one coach, you know,
basketball his whole life. But I think now, I think
that's moreph We've gone past that because I will tell
you this, the officials know what they're calling and what
(05:54):
they're not. They know what to look for and whatnot.
Caitlin Clark is a really big deal and I won
if they're not calling fouls on her on purpose. Now
I'm not saying that's why she got hurt. I mean,
I'm not saying that, but I wonder just watching these games,
are they not calling fouls where she gets hit on purpose?
Because the backlash and what could happen the optics of oh,
(06:19):
Caitlin Clark getting all these foul calls, getting superstar foul calls,
What that would do to the wa WNBA conversation and
attention to the game, because you already see what it's
like where there's so many haters for Caitlyn Clark out there.
The players don't like her, the players don't. Some of
the coaches don't like her because they're jealous of what
she does and the attention she's brought to the game.
(06:41):
Can you imagine what would happen if they put her
on the free throw line as much as they did,
if they if they gave her all these calls where hey,
that's a foul, that's a foul, that's a foul. The
blowback on it would be insane.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Yeah, but that's not really what I was talking about
female officials officiating the men's game. But yeah, it's here.
Here's the here's what I've been able to gander. Everything
about the women's game is a bad version of the
men's game. Everything about it, you know, it's the Kaitlin
(07:19):
Clark shooting percentage from three. Like I just I grow
really really frustrated because it and maybe this is where
Jason's frustration comes from too. It's like people can't be honest,
like those are the Kaitlin Clark. You know, Logo threes
are awesome. The reason that most players in the NBA
(07:40):
don't take logo threes is it's a very low percentage
shot for just about everybody outside of Steph Curry. That's
why he is well Steph Curry, And anyway, I make
the point because literally everything that's happened in the women's
game is like a micro gos or a bad version mens.
(08:01):
You know, it's like the league is trying to be
about toughness. And I also think, if we're honest, the
league lacks. There's not a ton of great the the
athletic difference between the best and the others is not
as great, And obviously a way to make up for
when your athletic disparity is to foul more, grab it,
(08:21):
hold more, right, hand check more, et cetera. So I
think that's kind of what you're seeing is because there's not.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
There hasn't.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
They haven't gone through what the NBA went through, where
you cut out all the hand checking, you cut out
all the nickel and with a bunch of nickel and
dime fowls and oh yeah, by the way, the couple
of years in which they did it, they did it
early in an eighty two game season, and by the
time we got to the playoffs, it's hardly noticeable. But
the other part is like the WNBA has always been
(08:51):
a hard watch. Are the players better than they used
to be? Yeah, there's more skilled players, it's not like
the NBA. Again, more skilled players, but again that skill,
that athleticism is never going to be up to that
of the men, and so that's what're used to watching,
and they're trying to mimic the men's moves, the men's defense,
the men's toughness, whatever.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
It's just not the same.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I mean, even Jay stew has said, like, I'm super
in on Kaitlin Clark and I can't watch this stuff.
So some of it's the officiating, but a lot of
it is the mimicking of the men's game. And the
women just don't have the athletic ability to get out
of the way of some of these fouls, and so
it's kind of grab and hold fest and it's it's ugly.
(09:33):
And the other part is like, look, if you're a
woman and you're playing well below the rim and you
get bumped, it's gonna make that short shot way harder
to make. Whereas the men, they're such freak athletes that
they go up and they can absorb these same fouls
and still be able to score, still be able to due.
Women can't do that because again you're playing below.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
The rim and It's the.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Same for like young boys when they play and they
try and mimic things. That's if you're playing below the rim.
All of those shots are made more difficult anyway. Then
you mention, then you put in physicality, and they're nearly
impossible to make. Here's John Smoltz on FS one talk
about shoe Heyo Tani.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
He can't waste any moment.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
He's got a lot of energy puts in every single day,
and as a starting pitcher, those four days in between, yeah,
you got some work to do, but you rest for
that fifth day. You're geared up, you're fresh. Your chances
of being successful once every five days go way up
when you don't have a lot of other things you
got to do. Take batting practice, go for scotting reports,
hit following off your foot, off your knee. There's a
(10:37):
lot of things that gets you banged up as an
everyday player, that wear you out. He's an amazing freakish athlete,
and people don't understand what takes away from his ability
to be a freakish pitcher. And so we're never going
to see anything like this again, and we're never going
to get a chance to see what I've just said,
but I think it takes away a big percentage of
his greatness because every day, look, he can't afford like
(11:00):
let's say he's slumping at the plate, can't bring it
to the mound, or let's say he's not pitching well
tomorrow mound, he can't bring it to the plate. He's
thinking about something has programmed his mind and body to
do something every single day that is not just for
one trick. He's a two trick pony that he does
it at elite level.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
Yeah, I mean just John Smoltz has a way of
analyzing and breaking things down which make it way more interesting.
And instead of just saying he's the greatest player ever,
he kind of breaks down what makes him the greatest
player ever.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
That's what the Fox Says say.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Let's find out who What's annoying? Jason Stewart.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
And now it's your annoying.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
Hey, Doug, I just wanna let's let's I wanna piggyback
on what you just said. So when you're responding to
Jason Smith's take about referees and Kitlin Clark and blah
blah blah.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
I know that.
Speaker 7 (12:07):
WNBA is probably really going to hate that I'm about
to say this, but I think they're I think they've
lost a viewer. I think I may have watched my
last WNBA game last night. Now it might sound like
I'm just kind of reacting and and you know, the
wound is still raw, but it was almost impossible to
(12:27):
get through that game last night, and for a couple
of reasons. But listeners who don't know Caitlin Clark played
last night at the Sun, well at Boston, but they
played the Sun. All it was was chippiness all game.
So if you like ten women being chippy for ninety minutes,
I guess that's for you. Uh, Kaitlyn Clark just motherfuckering
(12:51):
referees all night long. It was like, I don't know
if that's beneath her, if that's the way she's always been.
But to me, for the first time, it was unset
up because she's not doing Kitlin Clark things. In other words,
if Kitlin Clark isn't doing Kitlin Clark things, you've lost me.
And she comes off as a raging bitch on the
(13:11):
floor and then at the end of the game she
got hurt. So now the All Star game in the
three Point Contest this weekend is gonna be without Caitlin
Clark again. Maybe this is a reactionary thing, but I
was pissed off last night that I wasted my time
watching that shit because she still can't. She's not shooting
(13:31):
well at all. She's not doing Kitlin Clark things. WNBA,
you may have lost a viewer for good.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Who knew? Who knew?
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Okay, So Caitlin Clark and the WNBA is annoying you?
Speaker 2 (13:43):
What else annoying you?
Speaker 7 (13:45):
Tyreek Hill always annoys me. But the one reason why
we've ever put weight behind what he said is because
he's supposed to be the greatest receiver out there. Like,
the only reason we put up with his stupidity, whether
it's impregnating three people a year that aren't his wife
(14:07):
or some kind of fire at his house, being pulled
over by a cop and getting treated poorly because he
deserved to be treated poorly. And then he was made
out to be some kind of a social injustice warrior
for a week and then they're like, yeah, we don't
need this guy's a spokesperson. He's not smart enough. But
the only reason we've ever put Wade into what he's
(14:28):
done is because he's supposed to be a top receiver. Well,
thank god for this, but Randy Moss has spoken. Randy
Moss did an interview with the Sun Sentinel and was
asked where Tyreek Hill ranks all time in receivers. Quoting
Randy Moss, He's nowhere all the time. Where is he
(14:50):
at in today's game? Probably top five. I'll put him
in the top five. I'm here to report a murder
that he just murdered tyreek Hill. So now we don't
need to take anything tyreek Hill does as seriously because
he's not even He's nowhere all time. I'm always going
(15:11):
to refer to that. I'm going to refer to Randy Moss.
You're nowhere all time, So we don't need to listen
to anymore.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Look, I think Tyreek Hill is crazy talented. I would agree.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
That this is Here's what Tyreek Hill is is a
victim of again, and I'd love to know if you
agree with this. Tyreek Hill is a victim of the
podcastization of our country. By that I mean, and I
think Micah Parson is a little bit in that same boat.
(15:41):
Although Micah is Mike is pretty bright. I don't think
the same of Tyreek Hill. The podcastization is everybody now
has a podcast, and some people really shouldn't have a podcast.
That's it, right, there's there's there's two how much other
baggage there for us, especially while he's still playing to
(16:05):
forget about to enjoy any of his commentary, And then
a lot of the things he says are just.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yeah, it's it's just not great.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
I mean, he would be I don't love these shut
up and play ball statement, but he would be better
served to not have a podcast.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Or not appear on podcasts.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Just go play football, just go run track, just do
fast things. You're really good at being fast, really good,
really really really good. But you're really good at being fast,
but you're not really good at the other stuff. And
I think that's where you get annoyed, right, Jay stew
Is that all that other stuff gets super annoying. And
you know, now we're supposed to listen to you in
(16:44):
your opinion when you're just like you've impregnated like three
four women at the same time.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
What are we doing fair.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
And again, Randy Moss has officially given us permission to
disregard everything Tyreek Hill's done. And to quote Randy Moss,
Tyreek Hill is nowhere all the time. Where is he
in today's game? Tyreek Hill is probably top five, maybe
(17:13):
top five. So thank you, Randy Moss. We're going to
be better off for it. President Trump is on the
list today and it has nothing to do with with
Jeffrey Epstein, has nothing to do with tariffs, has nothing
to do with Israeli relations, has nothing to do with
(17:35):
the President of Russia treating him like a bitch. It
has to do with the moniker or what's the word.
What's the word for the sport is it? I think
it's a moniker. American football is the subject here, American football,
(17:56):
So we have our own tackle football, and then the
entire world, ninety eight percent of the planet calls football
something that you kick a round ball with your foot.
I think it was very arrogant and very American when
we discovered created our tackle football to call our game football.
(18:18):
If you think about it, the foot has almost nothing
to do with our football. In fact, whenever a foot
comes in play, it's a downer. Like punt teams coming out,
we're settling for a field goal. Kickoffs are marginalized to
a non play. So why are we putting foot in
(18:41):
the sports name? Why not call it some take advantage
of this time and call it something else. Spiral ball,
pig skin, just call it pigskin, handball, hand what I use?
Your hands a lot? Carry it? So President Trump was
asked something along these lines in the scrum recently.
Speaker 8 (19:03):
Johnny's a friend of mine. He's done such a great
job with the league and with soccer. Or they would
call it football, but I guess we call it soccer.
I'm not sure that change could be made very easily.
But it's great to watch. And this is a little
bit of an upset that we're watching today, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
I'm not surprising.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
It's incredible.
Speaker 8 (19:20):
What if we make an executive order we can only
say football from now on.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
I think we could do that.
Speaker 7 (19:24):
I think I could do that, Doug, Where are you
on changing the name of the sport?
Speaker 4 (19:33):
I mean, Gulf of America we have?
Speaker 2 (19:38):
I mean, do we really? You really want to ask me? Mister?
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Literally dumb dumb fucking talk. I mean, I look, I
get it. People vote from. Like, this is the dumbest
fucking thing I've ever well, actually, the dumbest thing is
he he said earlier today that Powell, who's the head
of the Fed Reserve, that you know, I'm surprised Biden
appointed him, and then Biden you know, extended him like
(20:02):
when he appointed him, and there's video of it. It's like,
what the fuck, Like literally, dude says, shit, that is
just completely stupid. No, we're not changing the name of
football or soccer or what we pronounced in the United States,
and if you're asking about changing it internationally, that's not
happening either. I'm not really sure. Yeah, I'm not really
(20:25):
sure exactly what the endgame is of any sort of discussion,
like when he says it could be a pretty easy change,
which one would be the easy change calling soccer football,
Like there are just people that are not gonna that's
that's like trying to settle the Lebron Jordan debate. Good
luck with that one. People are dug in on what
(20:47):
they're gonna call it. And then we're definitely not changing
the name of American football even though it's not really football, right,
So yeah, not happening.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
So uh, Trump on football. The WNBA has lost a
viewer probably and Tyreek Hill m.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
I honestly think the Trump thing just because it's just like,
what are we and he he does it as these
little side comments, which is honestly what gets him in trouble.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Right.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
I could ninety deals in ninety days, no problem. I'm
gonna get that war will be done in one day,
no problem. It could be easy to change the name,
the sports name, like what And it's just annoying and
distracting to have to discuss it.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
So that's annoying.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Why are we doing this because we can.
Speaker 9 (21:55):
A Doug.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
I'd like to report a murder. And the cool thing
is is that this is the only outlet in the
country that could play this because all the terrestrial content
out there needs to bleep it out. So I'm gonna
be part of a murder. Here's the background. Uh, Shaquille
O'Neal is like Angel Reese's surrogate father. They're very close,
(22:19):
They're friends.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (22:20):
Shaquille O'Neil is Angel Reese's number one defender. Both lsu
okay cool. Shaq went on a podcast hosted by two
women not sure what it is, and he had RG
three in his sites this is great stuff.
Speaker 9 (22:42):
Oh speaking of man RG three tweeting tweel another monkey
posts about my girl Angelies. I'm punching your fucking face. Okay,
it's enough, Like I don't usually do stuff like this,
but just stop it. Bro, you got your job, you
got your podcast. Leave my angel rees alone. I'm the
one calling her and telling her not to respond. Fucking
stop it. That's the last time. Okay, thank you. It's
(23:04):
not real hate. We look around, what's going on in
this royal country? That's hate? This is this is sports.
I'm not supposed to like you. It's a shame that
all the stuff you did in your life, you're gonna
be remembered for your podcasts. You're gonna be remembered for
your podcasts. That should tell you you're not that fucking great.
I don't want to be remembered for Shack's a bit podcast.
I do not like Leo's kurls loan. You already spoke
(23:27):
on it.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Let it go.
Speaker 9 (23:28):
So what he hates her? So fucking what? I hate
you now, but messing with her? Now? What say something
about me? But she's not gonna respond because I'm the
one calling him be like, baby, keep it classy because
she's not soft by any means. You're from the streets,
but I'm like, you're beautiful. Don't indulge with these fools.
Because he's a fool. You don't even have G fourteen
classification to say that. I respect it more if Lisa
(23:51):
Leslie said it, like, that's you all category. Stay out
of the people's category. Okay, your sports, whatever you do,
you talk about sports, but I don't. You don't need
to be going deep. Y'all can go deep. Y'all are females, y'all. Y'all,
y'all understand what that's like. If he hates or so
what mind your business, like, I don't mind you doing
your jobs anyone, but don't pick on that little girl,
(24:12):
because guess what, I'm a protector. Now pick on me,
you pick on me, I'm punching your fucking face.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Yeah, I uh overreact much shack.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
But yeah, I In case you didn't know, a lot
of people don't like RG three, Just a lot of
sports people in the sports world don't like RG three.
I will point out. Didn RG three win the Heisman Trophy.
It's really weird that it never gets mentioned anymore.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Uh, but.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
I thought I think RG three has been exposed several
times over and now because of past either odd comments
or bad tweets or whatever. I do think there's a
little piling on. And even if you disagree with and
I've disagreed with some of the things RG three has said,
and you know some of the is it called virtue
(25:08):
of signaling he's done? You know some of that stuff
I will I will say in this particular case, if
he really knows that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark because
of how she feels like she's being treated, then yeah, again,
all he all she has to do is respond it's
just not true. But now we're so overprotective of women
(25:34):
in sports that you can't have any sort of real
discussion and shack like, if we're honest, Angel Reese, keeping
a class seat hasn't always been the case. Why can
we play for you? Because we can? That's it for
the end the Bonus Podcast. Check out the radio show
three to five Eastern Told Too Pacific, Fox Sports Tradio.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
I Heart radiop I'm Doug Gotlieb
