Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottle Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug Gottleys.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Fox Sports Radio. I Heeart Radio app. Wel come in.
It's a Friday, football Friday. We had football last night,
Nebraska escapes Cincinnati in Kansas City, and you're like, eh,
And I honestly think Dylan Roola, who's the quarterback in Nebraska,
is the perfect embodiment of what we know about college football.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Right.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
It looks like pro football. Guys are getting paid on
some levels like pro football. But it's a copy of
a it's a it's a copy of pro football. It's
not a copy of a copy. Some levels are right,
And if you've ever watched Multiplicity, no copy of a
copy shapes his own tongue. What it is, though, is
a it's a copy of college boy, just like Dylan

(00:59):
Roola is trying to copy everything Pat Mahomes does. And
I'm not bothered by it. It's a little weird, but
there are worse guys to copy, right than the best
quarterback in the NFL, who every year has been in
a Super Bowl or the AFC Championship game. So, but
I watched last night. It's too early the games teams

(01:20):
aren't ready, and you already have a breakdown in injuries,
right Wisconsin starting quarterback injured, Oklahoma States started quarterback injured.
Like here we go already. Thursdays also a little early.
You can't get the full gamut of game, you know,
the full appreciation of how it all works, the full tailgate.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Everyone's race for TV is more important than filling up
hotel rooms and having a legit football weekend. I love
college football, but this is probably too early to have games,
considering you have new teams, and you have to go
in understanding that FA football has never been at the
level of NFL football, especially on the offensive side, and

(02:05):
even more so now because there's not the cohesion because
so many teams have so many new players. So many
teams say nothing change in the grand landscape of things,
but it does paint a picture of this is going
to be a rough month watching football because those are
not exactly clean, well played games. And I love it

(02:28):
and I'm going to watch it all weekend, but I'm
also realistic about it.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app, and.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Now every day at this time of the Doug Gottlieb
Show in the Bonus Podcast, we play for you a
previous portion of a Fox Sports Radio or Fox Sports
One show. Here's Jane Slater from the NFL Network on
The Herd earlier today talking about the Micah Parsons deal.

Speaker 6 (03:00):
Of it is the building one here. Starting about two
years ago, we started hearing frustrations within the locker room.
And when I say frustrations, I don't want to sit
here and say that Micah Parsons is a problem player.
He certainly doesn't have problems off the field. It's more
of in talking to former coaches, one of the concerns

(03:20):
was does he love football or he does? Does he
love the idea of being a football player that gets
the accolades, then gets the camera and the podcast And
there would be frustration when they were in meeting rooms
and he would drift in and out. I would describe
it as just real he needs a coaching staff that's

(03:42):
really going to dive in and invest in him. We
saw that with Dan Quinn. We saw Mike Zimmer sort
of buy in as much as he could. You know
last year, but he's that type of player that just
requires a lot of buy in and attention. And I
think it started to where on the locker room. Let
me change that. I know it were on the locker

(04:04):
room because in talking to previous coaching staffs in exit interviews,
there were a number of players who came to them
and said, we have to do something about Mike.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It's fascinating now I had heard some of the same stuff.
I don't know if a leopard changed his spots. I
can tell you unequivocally, in running a basketball team, you
are who your best player is. Your best players not
fully engaged and is worried about a tweet or a
TikTok or a real then you're in big trouble. But

(04:39):
I also think that Zimmer could be a bad fit
for him, and that's where some of it started to
get progressively worse. Now he has money and power and
he's going to be a packer that doesn't I don't
think that style or persona works with the packers, and
I don't think he was doing it in Dallas to
get to get himself traded. The question becomes, can Dallas

(05:01):
convince him? Excuse me, can Green Bay. Convince him that
you don't need anything more than you have. You don't
need a podcast when you're making forty seven million dollars
a year, you just don't. You got to your rest
of your life for a podcast. If they could convince
him of that, I think that's that's part of the deal.
But there is a lot of there's similarities here between

(05:22):
the Luca deal and the Mica deal where all that
glitters is in gold. Obviously with Dallas it was about
conditioning in basketball and in football, it's about attitude and approach.
Attitude and approach, and look, some of it some of it, okay,

(05:45):
is you know, post mortem after the fact guy gets traded.
Oh yeah, he was an a hole. But some of
it is a reality that I had heard as well.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
Jones admitted that the team had been considering moving part
as early as the beginning of the off season, and
I think that's where the misstep occurred. If you know
you're open to dealing a twenty six year old pass rusher,
maybe the best defensive player in the game, why wait
until a week before the start of the season. If
you're in March leading up to the draft, you know

(06:18):
everybody's got these draft picks, maybe we could do something here.
Cap room teams can maybe explore a trade with Michah Parsons.
It just doesn't make any sense if you're going to
trade him, okay, then trade him back in March or
April if the you know, the sticker shock was there
and you didn't want to pay him that you thought
you had a handshake agreement, which is illegal in the NFL,

(06:41):
illegal and Jerry thought, okay, we've agreed on a deal
that's just over forty million dollars forty point five. Well,
if you know these other defensive players who are a
similar stature to Michaeh Parsons, TJ. Watt and Max Crosby,

(07:01):
maybe you know what the prince is going to be
and you know what's going on.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
So that's that's part of the difference there. It was
they were guarantees into year five, so that does that
can bring down the average per year, you know. So
there's a little bit of funny math that's done there.
I don't think the difference is that far apart. And
I also think that once you cut the agent fees in,
it gets a lot closer. Obviously, you can go with

(07:27):
the state income tax thing, which is higher here in Wisconsin,
then it's non existent in you know, they get was
it what no property tax in Texas? I don't know anyway,
taxes in Texas are lower. I think on personal income. Yeah,
the property tax is high, but the there's no personal
income tax in state. So you know, there's just a

(07:50):
lot we don't know. Again, my guess is my guess
is that Mica, that Micah Parsons, he negotiated in what
maybe at the time was good faith, but the reality
of it was it wasn't There has to be something

(08:13):
there where they talked without Molgeda for a reason, but
then Molgeda became aware and furious for a reason, and
now of a sudden, the cowboys are done with him.
It's possible that Parsons was a bad actor in the negotiation,

(08:34):
that he triggered a negotiation without an agent, and then
when they gave him close to a deal, he ran
it back by his agent and it's like, yeah, they
were talking to me without you being there, and he
lost his mind, rightfully, So so there's something else there
that we just are unaware of, is my guess. Here's
Brady Quinn LeVar Arrington talking about the deal.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
It's bros mismanagement of the roster and even more so
just the Dallas Cowboy fan base, like continuing to perpetuate
and lie this entire offseason, from the hiring of Brian
Schottenheimer and how that went about and now getting to
the point of the negotiations with Micah Parsons. This might

(09:16):
be the most damning thing. And that includes the Jerry
Jones buss. This might be the most damning thing that
has occurred with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys ever. Ever,
if you.

Speaker 8 (09:29):
Were to get rid of Patrick Mahomes in a trade
at the in the fourth, what fifth year of his contract,
the last year of his rookie contract? What people lose
their minds over it. Here's the point I'm trying to
drive home with that, while he's not a quarterback, if

(09:50):
you again, if you look at what he's accomplished in
the names, and I said this yesterday, I'm a double
down on it. You can only mention Michael Parson's name
in terms of what he's been able to do. Body
of work with Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I think he's the best defensive player in football. I'm surprised.
As we've said, I was blown away that this deal happened.
I cannot believe the Cowboys did it, especially when you
had him under contract for a year, Like it was me,
I make him play under that contract, you know. But
it's weird. Something had to happen that. Jerry Jones has

(10:38):
said some things that you can't take back. Think they're
a better football team without him. That's got to mean
something off the football field. That's got to mean how
he's viewed, perceived in the locker room. He had to
say or do something that caused them to go like, okay,
we're out, and I just again, I don't know if

(11:02):
that's easy to take back. I know he's friends with
Jordan Love. I know he's a great talent. I don't
know if that's easy to take back. Because word does
get out in a league, and if you're a toxic guy,
that toxicity fit follows you. That's what the Fox said say.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Let's find out who or what's annoying Jason Stewart.

Speaker 5 (11:35):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Hey, Doug.

Speaker 9 (11:44):
A popular ratio that's brought up. I watched way too
much political debate and discussion, But a popular ratio that's
come up since the election is this eighty twenty eighty
twenty issues issues that eighty percent of the is in
favor of and twenty percent of the country is against him.

(12:05):
And it's always good as a lawmaker and politician to
be on the side of the eighty instead of the twenty.
I don't know what this Micah Parsons ratio is, and
just the content that I've consumed over the last eighteen hours,
I would say it's closer to ninety ten, but say
it's eighty twenty. This is a man that took the

(12:25):
side of the twenty. Skip Bayless reacted immediately on the
golf course to Micah Parsons being traded by his cowboys.

Speaker 10 (12:36):
So I just finished playing golf, just heard the news
about Micah Parsons gone to Green Bay.

Speaker 9 (12:43):
In my gut.

Speaker 10 (12:44):
Reaction, as you might guess, is good riddance and good
luck Green Bay, because you just overpaid for the overhyped
Micah Parsons who will never be able to up to
that money, especially in Green Bay, where I don't think
he'll ever be happy living. I have said this for

(13:08):
months on end. He wrecked games in his rookie year,
but the league figured him out. The league caught up.
He's just not consistently impactful for the last three years.
He has driven me crazy, leaving me wanting more, especially
in that home playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. Packers,

(13:33):
did you not watch the tape you just bought into
the highe congratulations, you saw it firsthand because you saw
him ghost his own team.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
You saw him no show on.

Speaker 10 (13:45):
The Dallas Cowboys who had like seven Pro Bowl players
to your none. Green Bay seven point favorites as the
two seed in a home playoff game at Jerry World
with Netflix filming Jerry up in the box for this
documentary that just dropped on Netflix.

Speaker 9 (14:02):
So this is where I come out on this, Okay.
I always appreciate someone who goes against the grain, and
if you're gonna go against the grain, you better have
like the gravity, the gravitass the work, put the work in.
And he spends the next nine minutes giving specific examples

(14:23):
of why MARKA. Parsons isn't worth that contract and why
it's probably better off that the Cowboys moved off of
it and can spend it elsewhere I will. I'm not
saying I agree with his take. I do appreciate the
work that was put in, and I appreciate the opinion.
And the annoying part is that it's it's like anything
Skip does, it's like low hanging fruit. So of course

(14:46):
yesterday when he goes against the grain, everyone piles on.
But after listening to what he said, I actually appreciate
the work.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
I appreciate the knowledge and the Cowboys. But if Micah
Parsons re signed with the Cowboys for the exact same amount,
he would be celebrating today. It was I again, I
don't follow Skip on Twitter, so I don't know. Has
he been critical of Micah Parsons ever in the past.

Speaker 9 (15:15):
Yes, he remember Micah Parsons agreed to do their show
Weekly hand Shannon and then pulled out, and Skip has
been a critic ever since. And people are like, yeah,
it's just because he doesn't want to do your show,
But yeah, no, he's He's actually been consistent on this point.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Okay, it's fair, I don't pay. The issue with Skip
is like, dude, you're gonna throw away your Cowboys jersey
every time they lose and it's just all for show,
and now you're mad that he's gone. And again, I
don't think he made bad points.

Speaker 8 (15:49):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
I think it's wrong messenger, right message. That's what I
honestly think, because if if it is because he canceled
on him and it appears to be personal Mike. Look,
he's the only guy. It was what two guys ever
in the history of football that have had double digit
sacks their first four years in the league. Again, I

(16:12):
don't watch enough Cowboys because they're not that good and
I just haven't, you know. And it's like we're blaming
the Packers loss on him the fuck out of here, right.
That one was on Dak. That was on turnovers. Yeah,
they couldn't get after the pastor but that's because they
were constantly in minus situations because Dak kept turning the

(16:35):
football over. So I don't know, no one else seems
to feel this way. Maybe he's right, maybe this is
the Luca deal, but I feel like it's for a
guy who throws away his jersey every time the Packer,
every time the Cowboys lose, I feel like he's might
be right message wrong messenger.

Speaker 9 (16:54):
No, that's fair. Sheyla Sanders. I think he was a
member of the Bucks squad this preseason. He got cut
this past weekend after picking a fight with the dude.
I don't know. I don't think he was welcome back
on the practice squad unless I miss that. But Shilah Sanders,
now a free agent, went to TMZ and he told

(17:16):
TMZ why this isn't that big of a deal.

Speaker 11 (17:19):
I feel like this is just part of my story,
you know, to grow and do bigger and better things.
Whether it's finding another team, whether it's you know, getting
another opportunity in the NFL. It is what it is.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
You know.

Speaker 11 (17:34):
I truly believe God and I don't question anything, and
I believe everything happens for a reason. I've been talking
to my agent and we're waiting on the next opportunity.
If that's an NFL.

Speaker 12 (17:46):
Cool.

Speaker 11 (17:47):
But God's blessed me with a lot of talents to
do other things other than play football. You always want
to have other interests that you're interested in. You know,
I've always done that my whole life, playing football, with music, acting, modeling.
I'm well versed and my parents may share it that,
so you know, I've been prepared for anything to happen.

Speaker 9 (18:09):
So I guess this would be the chicken and the
egg thing, right, dack like, because he is so well
versed in acting, singing, and modeling. I can't confirm that,
but if that's true, then maybe that explains why he's
been cut from the NFL team that took a chance
on him. Maybe he should have focused more on football,
I do. What I don't appreciate about this entire thing

(18:32):
is that he is basically saying that those that are
making that are on a team in the NFL right now,
making money on an NFL team only chose to focus
on football, and they're not well rounded. And he was
raised the right way to be well rounded. It's just
like on the way out the door, if no team

(18:53):
ever signed Sheylah Sanders. Again, he's basically saying to other people,
at least I'm well rounded and you're not. I just
think it's kind of worship.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
I do as well. I do as well. It's look
at how great I am, you know, look at how
amazing I am. And yeah, oh oh yeah, I don't
even need football. I just got cut and I don't
need football, Like, yeah, don't worry, the phone won't ring.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
What else?

Speaker 9 (19:28):
Kyle Schwarber hit four home runs in a game last night.
It's the fourth one sounded like this swung on.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Hit deep right field and there's history for Swarmer. It's
his fourth home run of the night, as Kyle Schwarmer
becomes the first Belly since Michael Jack Smidt to hit
four homers in a game.

Speaker 9 (19:52):
The number of players to hit four home runs in
a game now or twenty one, and the number of
players to pitch a perfect game. Number of players to
pitch a perfect game is twenty seven. Four home runs
in a game has been done less times than a
perfect game. It's one of the most rare things to
ever happen in sports, and Kyle Schwarber made the mistake

(20:16):
of doing it on the night that Micah Parsons was traded.
Because nobody cares or is talking about it today. Kyle
Schwarber has an amazing feat that exactly nobody's talking about today.
That's pretty annoying.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Is it's truly amazing? I mean four home runs the
game is is filthy, is ridiculous, is amazing, amazing? What's
the most annoying that nobody's talking about it, or Shilo
Sanders annoying, Shila Sanders, you're annoying.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
Why are we doing this?

Speaker 1 (20:54):
I do.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
Because we can.

Speaker 9 (21:00):
On Friday, I like to play back the best sound
of the week, and this one. I'm going to continue
to be amazed that it's taken thirty years for us
to hear this and see this. Of the many highlights
of the Netflix series The Cowboy or The Gambler and
the Cowboys or in his Cowboys, how whatever the fuck
is called. You've heard a lot about it, You've seen

(21:21):
a lot about it. This piece of sound, I'm guessing
NFL Network gave gave the permission to play it surfaced
for the first time, and it's Troy Aikman at the
height of his career, at the height of the Dallas
Cowboys popularity nineteen ninety five on the sidewine with an

(21:42):
assistant coach given his assistant coach an earful about his
head coach, Barry what's his face Switzer? Barry Switzer? Troy
Aikman talking about Barry Switzer on the sidewine on the
Netflix series The Gambler and His Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Boys Escape It was a struggle.

Speaker 12 (22:04):
I'm fucking tired of being a guy who's gotta run
down everybody's goddamn throat all the time. Why don't we
have a fucking coach he gets over there and done
something about it. Then we want to go and pat her
buddy on the ass. And they haven't got a fucking job.
All night, guys out there fucking off. Nobody says anything
about it. We got a head coach and want say
anything about it. We got coaches offense, but we won't
do anything about it. I mean enough enough.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
You hear the coach going, Troy Troy, Troy Troy. That's
some great sound, and that tracks with Barry Switzer, that
tracks why can.

Speaker 10 (22:36):
We play for you?

Speaker 2 (22:36):
Because we can't. That's it for the end the Bonus Podcast.
