Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ah gotta know Fox Sports Radio. iHeartRadio. App Welcome, Welcome,
Welcome in. Here's what I want to do. Okay, if
you're listening to this pod. One, it's gonna be good,
don't worry. Two, we can do a little something different
than being on the radio. And I do want to
talk about Mike Gundy as the Cowboys go into Eugene

(00:22):
and they get their fucking asses kicked. Right, There's just
there's no description you can use other than like all
of them have curse words. They did like they'll be
dudes that like they got their dicks rubbed in the dirt,
which I don't really know why that's a negative thing,
but it is an expression in parts of the South
that I'm aware of. Anyway, sixty nine to three is

(00:45):
a fucking ass kicking, and it wasn't that close. So
there's a bunch of factors. First thing in terrible fucking scheduling. Now,
it was made a long time ago, back when Oklahoma
State was among College Football League and Oregon was a
little bit lost in some coaching turnover. Now Oregon under

(01:06):
Dan Lanning is elite, elite, but they've also been able
to separate themselves financially right, which is what Mike Gundy
pointed out. And look, I think Oklahoma State, I was told,
probably spent thirteen fourteen million dollars on their roster, and
I'm guessing that at minimum, at minimum Oregan spent twenty
to twenty five on their roster. So there's a disparity.

(01:29):
But the bigger disparity is not just in the talent.
It's when you go from not having money and you
change staffs. Here's the FETI complete. That's the fatal flaw.
I believe that's what feeda complete means. The fatal flaw
is you're just going out hodgepodge recruiting, trying to find

(01:49):
players and trying to get the right value. Ooh, I
like him. He's pretty good. How much does he cost? Well,
he costs one hundred and fifty thousand. We need guys
at one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. If you go
after it that way in the portal and you put
together a whole new staff and you recruit to that

(02:10):
whole new staff, you have no identity. Right, Dan Lanning
knows how he wants to play on defense, He is
an no outstanding offensive coordinator and they know what they're
looking for, so they're not just spending money. They're spending
money on guys that fit who they want and what
they want. So they're ahead in how much they're spending,

(02:31):
so they have a better level of athlete. They're ahead
in they've been doing it this way for a couple
of years, so they have a better feel for the
market and they have an identity that they're able to
recruit too. And then Oklahoma State's not good enough at quarterback,
but their starting quarterback is hurt. It's the first true
road game, is way too hard, a game you should
never fucking play in your schedule. And they got their ask.

(02:54):
And then the last part is why aren't guys like fighting,
like fighting fighting, Well, if you just showed up at
a school a month and a half ago, and you
only showed up for a check, you don't have the
built in equity in a program where you're like, I
ain't fucking losing sixty nine to three. So I do

(03:16):
think that Oklahoma State has a window to succeed under
Gundhy in this city because they're also recruiting all the
high level State of Oklahoma players and you'll keep those
guys and they'll cost you less. You can build, but
it takes time. And I also think he has time
just because it costs too much money to buy him
out and to buy out the whole staff, because if

(03:38):
you do, you're gonna set Oklahoma State back two or
three years anyway, because now you don't have any money
for any players or a new staff. But the big
mistake is when you go in for the first time ever,
you spend money in the portal. You got to do
so with a theme in mind, with a style in mind,
not just a Hodgepodge way. I don't think that works.

Speaker 2 (04:00):

Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Ll Let's get to the Fox as and now every day
at this time in the Bonus Podcast, would play for
you a portion of a previous show Fox Sports Radio,
Fox Sports One. Okay, we call it. What does the
Fox say? This is earlier today? Dan Byer? Excuse me,

(04:30):
this is yesterday, Dan Byer. Kerry Rhodes had this reaction
to the Steelers win late in New Jersey over the Jets.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
The biggest surprise for me. The biggest takeaway is that
Steelers Jets games. Obviously I'm not I'm not a Homer here.
I'm just in the way that both teams operated offensively.
I thought it would be a lower scoring game. I
thought defenses would be the main factor in his game.
But both offenses came out and put up points. And
I think we can see a little bit more of
that moving forward.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Right when I thought the Steelers were maybe now too
old on defense, Mayward got digged up a little. He
got the money that he wanted, and who knows, TJ
Watt got this new contract. You're wondering how the age
is gonna be. And I'm like, you know, Jalen Ramsey's
got some miles on him. Jalen Ramsey makes the play
to end the game and in jarring the breakup pass
of Garrett Wilson that could have helped the Jets. So

(05:16):
Steelers want to know Aaron Rodgers for a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, I mean, like, look, it was a huge win.
And I thought when you watch Aaron Rodgers, almost all
of his success came on rollouts. Rollouts when he's in
the pocket, doesn't feel comfortable, kind of still gets rid
of it really quickly, and I did like that they
played the Jets on the road and his whole it

(05:44):
was great to beat anybody associated with the Jets, right.
I would love for him to expound upon that, maybe
that we had to wait for the book for the movie,
but it felt to the outsider, like to us, like
what's he mad about? With the Jets? They bent over
backwards to try and make a work for him. Last year.
Here's Colin Colhert talking about Josh Allen.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Josh Allen, they put the cape on him. Lamar Jackson's
part of a great roster, a super Bowl winning coach.
I never feel like the organization lets him down, and
he has sputtered in big playoff spots. Josh Allen's passer
rating is better in the playoffs than the regular season,
and he was the MVP. He's always at his best
when the best is required. He doesn't need to prove

(06:26):
anything to anybody. His coach has often let him down.
He had more passing yards in the fourth quarter last
night than half the league had this weekend, sixteen unanswered
points against a better roster in Baltimore, Montana, Brady and
Mahomes have more hardware and maybe Owa's will. I have
never seen, including Patrick Mahomes, a quarterback with this much velocity,

(06:49):
this much power. His again, his playoff passer rating higher
than his regular season He is a gamer and not
the streaming kind.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Uh yeah, I mean I didn't know we needed to,
we needed to preface it, but maybe I will. It's
really interesting how when your team hasn't gotten to a
super Bowl and you're the quarterback, the presumption would be
that you are not clutch, you don't perform well in

(07:23):
the clutch. And I understand that last night. The game
wasn't on the lot, wasn't as big as an AFC
championship game, as a Super Bowl, as a whatever game.
But if you go back to the thirteen second or
they he never touched the ball. He played a perfect game.
They lost in Kansas City. To several of their other
playoff losses, not all of them, there have been a

(07:43):
couple that are on him to last night, where again
it's not Super Bowl pressure, there's still an unbelievable amount
of pressure to win that game, and you still found
a way. I think there's a world there where he's
the best quarterback in the NFL. I think there's a
good discussion there to be had whether or not that's accurate.

(08:06):
And you know, did it you know, does it prove
it in a Week one comeback win when it was
helped by a fumble at a miracle catch, like all
of those things are part of the discussion. But I've
always thought this and this is the same with Aaron Rodgers.
Only one super Bowl and one Super Bowl win got it.
But there have been so many times which Aaron Rodgers

(08:27):
in the clutch has played unbelievably well. It just the
game maybe hadn't measured up in terms of NSC championship game.
Here's Dan Patrick talking about the Lions lost to the Packers.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
The Lions are an interesting team. And you lose your coordinators,
you lose Ben Johnson, you lose Aaron Glenn and that
didn't come without some pain. Yesterday at Lambeau. This is
the highest scoring offense last year managed just thirteen points,
and their defense, you know, with that tough minded head coach,

(08:59):
gave up twenty seven points. Some chunk plays as well. Now,
the talent is still there with Detroit. You know, golf
is still good. I'm on Ross Saint Brown Aiden Hutchinson.
But when you replace your coordinators, if you go back
to what happened with Philadelphia after its twenty twenty two
Super Bowl run, the Eagles lost Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon.

(09:22):
Now they had basically the same roster coming back. The
results weren't the same. They were eleven and six and
a quick playoff loss. Another year of adjustments, and then
they were able to win another Super Bowl. Now that
doesn't mean Detroit is doomed, but expectations may be tempered
a little bit here. Green Bay might be a little

(09:43):
better than we think and Detroit not as good as
what we think. You're changing coordinators and these were high
end coordinators, you know, both became head coaches, and it
showed yesterday.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Well, I don't think there's any question that as of
right now, that was not the dynamic Detroit offense that
we saw last year. Now, remember guys don't play in
the preseason. Defenses should be a little bit ahead of
the offenses. I mean, because the offense you have to
play together in order to kind of get it working.

(10:17):
And when you have a new coordinator, they have to
learn what it looks like in the game, and the
quarterback has learned adjust to the play calling as well.
But again, as of now, as of right now, the
Lions have taken a rather serious step back, and the

(10:38):
Packers have taken a good step forward as of right now.
That's what the Fox said, saved.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Let's find out Who's annoying Jason Stewart and now.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
It's your annoying.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
A Doug.

Speaker 7 (11:09):
The Chiefs lost on Friday to the Chargers in Brazil.
Chargers played well, thought that was a good game. One
place stock out Patrick Mahomes was running out of bounds,
had seemingly conceded that he was running out of bounds
when he turned to make a big hit on defensive

(11:30):
back Dante Jackson. It was ugly. Dante was obviously not
expecting it, and if it's anyone but Patrick Mahomes, he's
probably penalwised in that moment. I thought it was a
cheap shot. I thought it was bush league and a
bullshit play. I also think that Mahomes gets a little
cute around the out of bounds territory. Remember last year

(11:51):
we talked about how he'll act like he goes out
of bounds and then he'll just run up the sidewine
when the defense lets up. You're asking to be hurt
if you want all the defenses in the National Football
League and their scout teams to be like, oh wait,
he does cute things when he when he's near out
of bounds. That means that you and the NFL's most

(12:13):
prized possession is going to get a fucking lick on
the sidewines and it might hurt you for a long time.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Uh. I don't know if it's bush league, but I
get ident it's definitely something that you need to It's
a couple of things. Okay, It's like there was it
looked like and I don't know if it was a
hold on that last Herbert touchdown. Everybody's talking about what
it was a hold there? Okay, a hold has to

(12:41):
be a grab and a tug, you know, or a tackle.
You got to get your hands out, you know, outside
of your shoulder pads. None of that happened. It was
more of a redirect. But Chiefs fans are are feeling
the wrath of everybody feeling like can City gets calls? Right,
so does the NFL. Now do you process this that

(13:03):
he leveled a guy going out of bounds. Next time
he gets bumped going out of bounds and then flops
and falls down, right, that's the big thing. Big thing is, Oh,
that's fine. Look at I have no problem with a
quarterback delivering a little bit of a blow. It's not
gonna knock anybody can cost to whatever. What everybody has
a problem with is okay. So now if you get
hit right in that gray area boarderline, or you get

(13:25):
bumped and you flop, We're not giving you a call
next time. That's what's gonna happen. What else?

Speaker 7 (13:32):
Drew Feltwell. Drew Feltwell is a father of a ten
year old. I thought this was like the story of
the weekend if football didn't exist. So they're playing at
Marlins Park. Drew Feltwell had taken his ten year old
to the Phillies game on his tenth birthday. There was
a home run by his Phillies Harrison Bader into the

(13:57):
weft center stance, so Drew Feltwell runs over. The ball
is loose. He scrambles for the ball, grabs it and
takes it back to his ten year old who just
turned ten, and someone who looks like a mix of
Kara Swisher what's her name on MSNBC anyhow, comes over

(14:23):
and demands that it was her ball and starts berating
the guy in front of his kid, and he ends
up giving the ball back to her. She ended up
getting like doxed on wine. There's a report that she
lost her job. I don't think that happened, but Drew
and his son did an interview after this whole thing happened.

Speaker 8 (14:47):
I had already turned around and headed towards him, and
I didn't look back.

Speaker 5 (14:51):
You know.

Speaker 8 (14:52):
I got the ball, put it in his glove, and
when I something touched my arm and then she just
screamed in my ear, that's my ball, like so loud.
I'm like like, wow, let's you know, why are you here?
Who are you?

Speaker 1 (15:07):
That's my ball?

Speaker 8 (15:08):
You got that from my seat, that's our seats, that's
my ball. I thought she would just eventually go away,
but she was very persistent. And I'm standing there with
my kids and I'm gonna go one direction and probably
regret or go this direction, and you know, through something
in front of my kids that you know, like a
teaching moment, de escalate the situation.

Speaker 7 (15:31):
Now, his son ended up getting a one on one
time with Harrison Bader after the game. After this got
back to the Phillies. I think his son got a
bat and a ball. The all ended well. But the
most annoying part is it's the woman that looks like
Rachel Maddow, Kara Swisher and Elizabeth Warren's love child. The
forty year old single woman who went over and brated

(15:53):
a man to take the ball away from his ten
year old son. She's pretty annoying.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
She's incredibly annoying. She's been plenty shamed by the internet,
so I don't need to hop on. But again, there
are rules here to this thing. First thing is this
and now the first day of my honeymoon was I was.
I was at the Cubs game and Sammy threw me
a ball. There was a little girl said, hey, Sam,

(16:20):
it's my ninth birthday. She had as sign it's my
ninth birthday. Can have a ball. I had to give
that ball. The kids always come first. The other part, too,
it is she didn't catch the ball on the fly.
You don't catch the ball on the fly. It is
not your ball. It is just not Now. I don't
love guys coming from other rows, but it was same
row and he moved over and he snatched it up.
It's hurt his ball, his ball. Play on Jay Stu.

(16:42):
I don't even think it's close. Right, we can shut
this one down, Phillies fan, your local Karen. Right. The
whole thing is so annoyed, Like every part about it
is among the most obnoxious things in sports. It's the

(17:02):
just multitude of layers to it. The basics of it are, Hey,
that ball was hit at me, you didn't catch it.
I'm a woman, doesn't matter like he's a kid. Like
why the entire thing flipping people the bird because they're
booing her? Right, the whole thing hearing from the block.

(17:23):
You're annoyed. All right, that's it for the in the
bonus podcast. Remember after this pod, if you've downloaded, you
got it into your queue, you'll have the rest of
the radio show.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Right.

Speaker 1 (17:36):

NFL football in the meantime. A reminder that radio show
