Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Here's in
the bonus with Doug gottle.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What up Doug Godleeb Show. In the bonus Fox Sports Radio,
I Heart Radio. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome in. There's all this
talk about a tribute to Michaeh Parsons. Okay, Michah Parsons
(00:35):
has said, no tribute, no problem. Jerry Jones said this week. No,
there's a lot of things I considered disrespectful. Excuse me.
Michael Parsons, when asked if it was disrespectful that he
wasn't going to get a tribute video, he said, no,
there's a lot of things I consider disrespectful throughout the process,
but I wouldn't say a tribute is one of them.
(00:57):
I would say that I think there's hard feelings maybe
there for them, But for me, I'm happy where I'm
at and we got a really good football team, so
I guess I can receive my tribute in a win.
I hope, uh, you know, Parson said, I think Dallas
loves me. I think they're gonna give me a good
round of applause. There's no hard feelings there, at least
(01:19):
for me. I think it's gonna be like going into
a great atmosphere. So uh yeah, Like the only people
calling for a tribute video are the is the media,
and like the tribute video thing is so weird. It's
such an ego play and it's such a way of
like why do we have to say thank you too?
(01:40):
Guys that came and performed performed, you know their profession.
You know, I'm not really sure I understand it, and
it there are not not all stories that we label
as media driven stories are media driven stories. But this
is a media driven story. And I don't think anybody thought,
(02:01):
you know, what they should do tribute video except people
who cover it and people who and and look for
the Cowboys. They're bad on defense. I do think they
would if they wouldn't be as bad, But the likelihood
is they weren't going to be particularly good on defense
(02:21):
even if they had Micah Parsons. That's the reason that
the trade actually makes sense from a Cowboys perspective, is
that you would have been hiring guy. This is It's
just like the Khalil Mack to the Bears trade, right.
The Bears got good instantly from getting Khalil Mack and
the Raiders end up getting two first round trafficks. Now
that might not be enough to first round draft picks
and and a good starting defensive lineman. But it stands
(02:44):
to reason that if you're surprised that the Cowboys are
bad defensively, you shouldn't be. They weren't particularly good defensively,
and then their best defensive player was traded away. The
Cowboys are actually playing the longer game here. It's a
smarter game. It's just a game in which won't win
they games this year.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
App lets Let's Get Them the Foxes and now every
day this time the Doug gotlib Show. In the bonus
podcast we Play for You a previous version of a
Fox Sports Trader or Fox Sports One Show. This is
Brady Quinn and LeVar Arrington to Former Pros, part of
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe, discussing the statement
(03:30):
that Tom Brady put out about his dual roles both
owning the Raiders, part of the Raiders Small part and
broadcasting the Fox I don't even know.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Why he feels the need to address it because there's
there's no concern at this point. It's just all people
who want to make something up to talk about because
they see him in the booth, you know, up there,
like he's calling plays for the Raiders, Which even if
that's the case, what are the raiders now one and two?
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Right?
Speaker 3 (03:56):
So it's not like that's worked out, well what an impact?
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Like you said, it is already decided, it's already happened.
So have a problem with it if you don't. The
bottom line is the reason why people have a problem
with it is because they probably already have a problem
with Tom Brady for one reason or another. And it's
probably not even specific to this particular scenario. It's Tom Brady.
(04:23):
So to me, when I look at it, can you
create valid reasoning behind why this is a conflict of
interest and why it doesn't maybe make sense? Of course
you can, But the reality of it is is that
many people are benefiting from what Tom Brady is representation of.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Again, I just think it's I think Brady knows. Brady
Quinn knows because he's broadcast games. He knows how little
info you actually have and you know, unless you have
a great relationship with people on staffs, you know, you
can get a ton of info watching film. But again,
(05:14):
you don't have a ton of info, right, you don't.
So I think Brady's dealing from his reality of having
done games and understanding what's really a play. But they
are missing the point that so much of it is
about optics, optics, optics, optics, and the fact that the
you know, it's like just brushing it aside. I know
(05:36):
he's not calling plays, but you know, he's calling games
of people that the Raiders play against the following week,
and it makes people uneasy, and especially in a sport
where you know, if you grew up playing youth football,
high school football, you know that coaches are generally paranoid.
Like youth football coaches, they have you line up across
(05:59):
the fields so that the opposing team cannot see a
play that you're working through or brushing up on in warmups.
High school coaches for years have chased people out of
their stadiums so that you can't, you know, make sure
it's not somebody from the rival school filming or writing down,
you know, things that they're going to do. Then you factoring.
It's a sport that breeds that type of spying and
(06:21):
inside information manufactoring. He's a patriot. They had Spygate to
flay Gate, and you know he's broadcasting games. Got the
headset on. It doesn't matter what's really happening, it's the
perception of it that doesn't sit well with people. That's
what the Foxes say.
Speaker 1 (06:40):

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Let's find out who What's annoying Jason Stewart.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
And now it's your annoying.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Hey Doug. Yesterday, Russell Wilson had a chance to be
human for the first time, and he chose not to be.
He was asked what he thought about being benched for
the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Now, I'm focused on helping the seam win.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
You know, I'm focused on helping Jackson.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
I'm focused on me getting ready to.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Be the best version of me today on Wednesday, and
so you know I want to be here.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
You know, I love this organization.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
I love the process of it all.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
To love the guys in the locker room, I'm not
giving up on this on us in this season.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Okay. So he's like, he falls into that category of
people that I just listened to, and I almost stop
listening to what he's saying because I keep thinking, you're
full of shit. You're absolutely full of shit. He had
a chance to be human, he had a chance to
say it's really frustrating to be honest. And you know,
(07:52):
I'm going to fight like hell to make it back
to that number one spot. I'm going to give him
competition every day. I'm going to be undeniable at practice.
My career isn't over. Do not write me off. I
want this team to win, and through that process, I'm
gonna win the starting quarterback job back.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
But he just couldn't do it. You just couldn't do
it right. That's the thing that I think is missing
with with with with Russell Wilson. I actually think you
nailed it right there, Jase. It's see, Hey, we're not
asking a lot. Just be human. I am devastated. Right
here we go again. I just played an unbelievable football
(08:32):
game against Cowboys. We had a disappointing game this past
weekend against a really good football team, and I am
just devastated. This is playing quarterback is my life. It's
all I've it's all i've known, it's everything. I agree
with you, I'm that's that's I think the disconnect with
Russell Wilson to so many people is like, hey, dude,
(08:53):
at some point, can you just be a human being.
You don't have to be some caricature. And yet he
insists I'm being character.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
So speaking of a caricature, Deon Sanders did a pretty
good job of ruining the start of his child's NFL career.
It's on record, he's pretty much admitted it. And so
his other son, Remember he calls Travis Hunter his other son.
I want to say, Travis Hunter calls him his other
dad or his one dad. I don't know what Travis
(09:22):
Hunter's family situation is. But so Deon Sanders was on
with the Kelsey Brothers and they were like, yeah, how
come he's not playing both ways more and used yet?
Or you're not using him enough?
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Like you know, IVE seen him with my own eyes
on an everyday basis for three straight years, so I
know what he's capable of, and I know how you
got to take care of him.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
So I coached him in college. One was at Jackson
State and one was at Colorado. And I know that
he can go both ways full time, every single game
and be great at it. The problem is you're in
college and this is the pro You have to pick one.
You have to be great at one thing. That's what
this league has proven time after time. You go Charles Woodson,
(10:08):
you go down the line, choose one. Be great at
one thing, don't be average at both things. And Deon Sanders,
I think has probably run out of his goodwill of
advice for NFL and twenty somethings.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I'm gonna say you're a little too harsh on this
one just because he's his player. And it's kind of
par for the course for any any college coach and
talking about their player, you speak of them in overly
glowing tours. Remember it was Dabosqueeney who called to Shawn
Watson Michael Jordan right slight slightly overplayed his hand. Uh
(10:46):
So again, I'm not as annoyed by that. I understand
why you're annoyed, right because you can't, Dion, you played
both ways in college. But yus have to remember he
recruited Travis Hunter away from his Alma Mater, with the
promise of him playing both sides the ball, with the
promise of him in winning Heisman Trophy, things that he
actually accomplished. So I don't think the support can end now,
(11:09):
even if it's realistic support.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Cal Rawley hit a home run number sixty. We had
a spirited segment on the radio show about whether he
or Aaron Judge should be the MVP. It's everywhere picking
up steam. It's a debate that's getting a lot of traffic.
But I have one problem, and it's with the announcer
who makes this call on the Mariners radio network.
Speaker 6 (11:34):
Swinging a drive deep the right field. There it is
number sixty. The modern day Vambdo has just tied Babe
Ruts record of sixty home runs for third all time
in American League history fifty nine and the first number sixty.
The magical tour of cal Raleigh just continues here in
(11:58):
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
I think that's Rick Rizzz. I keep saying a Rick
Rizziz comes up as the play by play guy, and
I won't blame you. I won't blame you, Rick rizz
I'm gonna blame you. And then all the headlines I
keep reading. If you read any headline today or any
sub headline on cow Rawly sixty home runs, he's the
(12:22):
third American leaguer to do it. Could we stop all
the fucking nonsense about acknowledging Sosa, maguire and box. Ever,
it's not an American league. He's the third Major leaguer
to hit sixty home runs. You throw all the fucking
steroid users out when referring to him again, if you
weren't going to discipline them when they played or after
(12:46):
the fact, we need to continue the public discipline. Hold
them feet to the fire publicly. Do not say third
American leaguer, say third major leaguer. What those guys accomplished
was complete fraudulent.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yes, I agree. It's super super annoying that we can't
call it what it is, which is inflated numbers on
inflated guys, and they were inflated because they're used to
performing sampansing trucks. You and I are locked up on
this one.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
So using an American league instead of a major league.
Dion's comments and then Russell Wilson not being a human.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Russell Wilson not being a human being because normally What
happens late in people's career is they start to be
a human being. I mean, that's really what happened with
Kobe Bryant. Kobe wasn't a human being, but then late
in his career he started being one, and people gravitated
towards him. Being a dad, you know, being a mentor,
(13:46):
being a businessman, trying something new, right, being able to
make fun of yourself a little bit. Those things all
happen to Kobe Bryant. Kobe went from being unlikable to beloved, beloved,
we'll have short memories. Russell Wilson obviously didn't have the
same off the field issues as Kobe, but he was
(14:07):
similarly disliked by a lot of people. And one of
the reasons, the biggest reason he's disliked is nobody thought
he's the real Russell Wilson. This just plays into it,
Russell Wilson unable to be a human being and saying
what he really really thinks as an eye.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Limited, Yeah, you gotta be unlimited. Why are we doing this?
Why do I because we can?
Speaker 4 (14:35):
All right? Speaking of cal Rawley, hit sixty last night
the Mariners won the division, and he went on live
TV in front of a crowd and said this. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
I mean, uh, you know, I think most people heard
I said last night.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
You know, might as well one the whole fucking thing.
So why that's genius? Though, Doug is that that's a throwback.
You know, he's too young to totally understand the reference.
I think even Sam's too gen z ors don't know
the reference. But cal Rawley, a catcher, just had a
(15:08):
I guess what a throwback or an ode to another
famous catcher, Jake Taylor in the First Major League Movie
in the Clubhouse.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Well, then I guess there's only one thing left to do.
What's that when the whole fucking thing? Yeah, yeah, fantastic.
I love that movie. I really love that movie. Why
couldn't play it for you? Because we can't. That's it
(15:37):
for the In the Bonus podcast, you got the radio
show every day three to five Eastern Tall Too Pacific,
Fox Sports Radio. iHeartRadio app. I'm Doug Godlig
