Doug breaks down Kevin Durant’s comments on Kyrie Irving requesting a trade and getting out of Cleveland and Doug tells you why the thing everyone should be talking about is Durant’s comments on what it would have been like to play with LeBron next season. Doug also looks at the reports saying the Jaguars owner Shad Khan would absolutely sign Colin Kaepernick and tells you if his comments hold any water. Also in the show, legendary rapper and co-founder of the Big 3, Ice Cube, joins the show to preview this weekend's Big 3 Championship game and Doug asks what kind of changes we might see going into the league’s second season. And for one last time Doug looks ahead to this weekend’s Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregror boxing match.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to North America Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio,
coming to you from Sunny Sin City, where the thunderstorms
have given way from a couple of days ago to
beautiful sunshine and the people are starting to. Uh to
fill in here in the media headquarters as we get

(00:22):
ready for Mayweather McGregor Mayweather McGregor, which is upcoming on
pay per view on Saturday night. UH lots to get to.
I want to get to Kevin Durant's comments about Kyrie
Irving leaving Cleveland via trade but asking to be traded,
and uh, I'll give you my thoughts on it as well.

(00:42):
Then ice Cube, of course, it's one of the founders
of the Big Three, which has its championship game tomorrow
on Fox. Will join us momentarily. But I'm predicting water World. Well,
I'm predicting water World for our world, and I'm predicting
water World for tomorrow night. There is not the typical

(01:05):
buzz of a economiccgregor fight. There is not the typical
buzz of a Floyd Mayweather fight. They are, as people
have noted, having trouble selling tickets. A big reason is
the ridiculous ticket prices that were asked for originally, which
drops substantially last night. And look, part of it is

(01:26):
the demographics of the fan basis, boxing fans. Elite level
boxing fans have a lot of money. M m A
fans do not. Mm A fans are blue collar, hard working,
rough tumble. It doesn't matter if you're white, brown, black, Asian,

(01:49):
doesn't matter. Uh, it's in terms of there's a financial
disparity between the two. And what they've run into is
the worst of all possible areas they price the m
m A fans who are fired up about this and
think this could be a massive upset out of the
market or scared them out of the market. And the

(02:10):
boxing fans who traditionally would spend every penny to come
see a championship caliber fight like the Triple G Canello
fight in a couple of a couple of weeks, don't
believe that this is a legit fight, And so you
can't sell the top end, and you've overcharged the bottom end.
And right now they're sitting on what some people estimate

(02:32):
is as many as much as seventy of the tickets
inside the arena. There have been viewing parties canceled already
in Las Vegas, closed circuit viewing parties. If you know
out works in Las Vegas. You can't just go into
any sports bar and pop in. Go ahead, and I
want to check out the fight and then look over
a guy's shoulder drink a beer. Like That's not the
way it works. They shut this down. It's closed is

(02:54):
it's special viewing parties. You have to pay to get in,
pay to get in, pay to drink a beer. It's
it makes it smarter to watch it from home. Now,
it's important that when you make the water World reference,
people understand what water World was. Water World was movie
starring Kevin Costner. It came out in nine At the time,

(03:17):
he was the most expensive film in the history of filmmaking.
And at the time and even now it's considered one
of the biggest busts in the history of filmmaking. And
the truth is that water World did make money. The
truth is that water Rold was not a terrible film.
The truth is that water World was nominated for an

(03:38):
Academy Award Best Sound Mixing. I know everybody puts together
movies like with Kevin Coster and spends a hundred and
seventy five million dollars and uses the same type of
set they used to two years later when they filmed
Titanic and thinks, if we can just get best sound mixing,
we have made it. But the point is that water
World had many of the makings at the time. Kevin

(03:59):
Costra was giably the biggest star in Hollywood, and he
bought into it. He co produced it, much like Mayweather
is producing this fight. And Mayweather is one of the
biggest stars in sports. But this to me smells like
a bust. It just does. And I mean, like, look,

(04:24):
the the only conversation that boxing fans will have about
this is Floyd Mayweather has always been not just about winning,
but about making money. Um, but about making money, and
the best way for him to make money is for
him to take a dive. If he takes a dive,
then this becomes a two fighter, maybe even a trilogy.

(04:46):
But instead, if he wins, it becomes the farce and
he walks away with a bunch of money. But it's
probably the last time that will pony up for it.
I mean, think about how long it took Kevin Costner
to recover from water World. Tin Cup was his next
big film a couple of years later, and Tim Cupp
kind of embodied what he was right. He was, you know,

(05:08):
guy guy trying to get back on his feet. Then
he did The Postman that didn't do well. Messaging a
bottle really cheesy. I mean you could make you can
make the case that it has never been the same
for Kevin Costner since he made water World and after
Dances with the Wolves, danced with Wolves, they get to anything,

(05:31):
Danced with Wolves, the Bodyguard JFK. He was literally the
biggest thing in Hollywood co produced a movie. It ended
up being a massive box office flop. And though it
made money and this will make money, and though he
went on to make another film and Flip Mayweather will

(05:51):
probably fight another fight. This fight, to me is water World.
Hotel rooms are available, seats are available, the ticket price
will come down. Areno be full. They're going to face
off in the ring. But this one stinks too high heaven,
it just does. That's just what it feels like. And

(06:11):
that's why I'm i'm I am concerned that this could
be a bad week for UFC, considering that people don't
think the fight is legitimate. The crowd will not be
a predominantly Connor McGregor crowd. And then you have the
Jon Bones Jones getting suspended for p d S all
in the matter of the same four or five days.

(06:33):
That ain't good for business, a business that we just
sold for four billion dollars. And you can tell me
and and like, look this fight much like UFC, much
like boxing. It has become global. But one of the
reason to become global is because people in the United
States are starting to get smarter with their money. That's
actually what happened with water World. Water World lost money,

(06:53):
but then when they went overseas re airs, DVDs, etcetera,
they end up making a coin up, making of coin
on and that's where this thing will make money. All right,
let's get to Let's get to Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant
applauded Kyrie Irving's move. He was on Bill Simmons podcast.

(07:15):
He said, quote, he did what he was supposed to
do in Cleveland and it's on to the next chapter. Quote.
I can really appreciate what he did. He stood up
for himself. He showed a lot of courage, man, because
it's hard to take that kind of criticism when you
just want to play ball. I feel for him. Now,
that's the quote that everybody is pointing out, and that's
the quote that everybody is pointing out. But I think

(07:37):
this quote is is really more important. Take a listen
to what k D says about the real reason Kyrie
wanted out. We are around Lebron James is like so
much that comes with that. It's like so much outside
like distractions and conversations and just noise that it just
comes around just from being around Lebron James. And how

(08:00):
are we at the point, like, all right, we lost
the championship. This whole season is gonna be about if
Lebron is gonna leave or not. I'm ready for a
new Child's like all that stuff kind of met at
the pinnacle of you know why he wanted to leave,
and it just felt like he just wanted a situation
where he could just be free from all of that
and just playing. I mean that's kind of what I've

(08:20):
been telling you the whole time, Like you're in complete denial,
complete denial of what it was really like to play
with Lebron James. If you don't think that this year
would be entirely entirely about is Lebron gonna stay. Every reaction,
every loss is going to be focused on Lebron James's

(08:43):
postgame press conference, what he says to the to the media,
his body language with teammates, what's Lebron's mood. They'll track
him on Twitter, on Instagram. We're already doing it, and
at some point you just say to yourself, like, I've
kind of done that, and it's it's not necessarily for jealousy,
just a normal reality and reaction. And sure there are

(09:09):
some benefits that come with it. You play with an
incredible player who the team is gonna do whatever it
takes to try and win, but that's not the only
way to win a championship, and that's not the only
way to be happy. It's just not I mean, this
happens in relationships every single day, right, happens in relationships
every single day. People are married too. It's like, would

(09:33):
you want to be married to a superstar like j
Lo is now dating a Rod, right, And it's been
for both of them. They've obviously been married before, they
have kids, and they are superstars. But for a Rod,
some of it has to be really really good, right,
because he's no longer looked at nearly as negatively. Some

(09:54):
of that is imagery have done by us being on
on Fox during Major League Baseball, but some of that
is also Now he's with j Low, who's beloved Alright,
They're a good looking couple, they're both not on their
first relationship, and they look to be at least somewhat
in love. But more than anything, he's not the biggest
star in the relationship. Now, in the short term, that

(10:18):
may be great, and maybe in the long term that's
what he wants, Like, I'm okay just being her side piece.
I've been the main attraction my whole life. On the
other hand, there may come a point in time to
which he's like, you know, I I kind of liked
it being about me. I kind of like doing things
around my schedule. I kind of liked it when people
were freaking out because I was walking in instead of oh, hey,

(10:38):
didn't you used to play baseball. Now, maybe Alex Rodriguez
is a big enough face. He's also a big human being.
He's like six ft four, right, so that he is
he's not he doesn't just become arm candy for j Low.
But the idea that it's it's easy to be married
to a superstar when you're just a star, when you're
just a kind of quasi celebrity in comparison, because that's

(11:01):
really what Alex Rodriguez is in the sports world. He's
a star, but in the real world, oh pales in comparison,
like j Lo is a megastar. And I'm interested to
see how that, if that does evolve much the way
this relationship. Kyrie Irving is a star, Lebron James is
a superstar. They are essentially they were essentially married, and

(11:24):
Kyrie's like, hey, it became so much about him. There
is no sharing in this relationship. All right, We'll catch
up with Ice Cube, get his thoughts on what Kyrie said,
his thoughts on what all this means for his beloved
l A Lakers, and we'll get his thoughts on the
culmination of the first season of the Big Three. I mean,

(11:44):
I guess I can't ask him if he could change
one three one one thing, what will he change? Because
he's in charge. Ice You will join us up coming
next but first on Saturday August to fight world's two
biggest Titans will clash the undefeated, the legendary ry the
best pound for pound fighter in boxing, best pound for
pound boxer on the planet, the King of the ring,

(12:05):

the notorious Connor McGregor. What happens when the greatest boxer
of our generation steps into the ring with one of
the world's most dangerous men in a battle the biggest
names in the business. It's boxing's best meets the master

(12:26):
meets power, something has to give as these two face
off in one of the most anticipated fights in history.
Will Floyd Mayweather Junior at knockouts remain undefeated and can
the mm A superstar Connor McGregor silences critics with just
one punch? Unorthodox orthodox versus south Paw, Perfection versus power,
confidence versus experience. Who will reign supreme? Mayweather versus McGregor,

(12:49):
They face off in a boxing match for the ages.

(13:17):
Sports Radio ros On Live from Radio Row and beautiful
sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. Look, I'm excited about it about
the fight, but I'm excited just because I'm here and
I've seen enough sports and I know that anything is

(13:38):
in fact possible, right, but possible and the likelihood of possible.
I'd never say impossible, but like you know, at some
point you start throwing out your hard earned money at
uh at enough Floyd Mayweather fights and you're like, I'm
just I can't take the con anymore. I can't do it.

(14:00):
On the other hand, leading up to the fight is
the championship of the first season of the Big Three
and the and the co founders of course. An award
winning musician, actor producer Ice Cube joined us on the show.
What do you think of the fight? Um, I think
it's a joke. I said, It's like water World, right
where like at the time, Kevin Costner was the biggest

(14:23):
thing in Hollywood. He even co produced, just like Mayweather's
co producing this thing. But at the end of the day,
you just can't get people to buy. You can't get
boxing fans to buy into its legitimacy. And they know,
they feel like they know a con when they see it.
Is that fair? Well? I mean I wouldn't go as
far as a con, but more of an exhibition, you know,

(14:45):
you know, exhibition when they see it. And that's what
this feels like. It doesn't feel like, you know, um
much as on the line. You know, I know people
saying it's boxing versus m m A, but trust me,
after this fight, both both sports is gonna be fine,
trust me. So I just feel like this is just

(15:05):
a cool exhibition. I just keep joining us here on
the on the dug out leaps, all right. Not an
exhibition for the Big Three championship. Um, you have an
undefeated team in trilogy trying to complete the tennant oh
sweep and have the first ever Big Three crown. If
you could go back and change one thing about this
season or about the league in the ramp up you

(15:27):
completed it, it's been a success. It's coming back to
Fox Sports one next year. But you can change one
thing and you can actually what would be maybe announcing earlier.
You know, we we announced the league at a press conference,
you like, January eleven, and that doesn't give you much
time to get up to speed and get this league going. Uh.

(15:48):
Even though we did a lot behind the scenes, you're
really not you know, out there until you make it public,
you know, because what we do behind the scenes, nobody
was saying. So we just it off to a late start,
and it hurt us. It hurt us with our deals,
It hurt us um with our sponsors, because everybody was like, yo,
we already spent the summer money, right, We've already booked

(16:12):
the summer programming. You guys are late. I want to
do it next year. We're like, no, we have to
go this year. So that's one thing I would change
that we would start maybe in October often come out.
So just put us behind a ball, all right. There's
people mentioning Kobe, there's people mentioning Kevin Garnett for a

(16:34):
fourth season two? What's what's realistic like? And look, I
know you're gonna shoot, you know, for for the starts.
What's realistic in terms of the guys that you think
you can get in your league as people have bought
into it's round, it's real, and it's got staying power.
You know. I'm I'm hoping Paul Pierce was sincere when
he said he wanted to be a part of it,

(16:54):
Big Baby Davis. Um, But there's people I've been looking at,
like Gilbert Arenas. Um. You know I would love to
get Rip Hamilton's and Tayshawn Prince and you know it's
like kg is. You know, UM is a dream. So
these guys are out there. Hopefully they get the itch,

(17:15):
Hopefully they want to play with their peers again and
gives give the Big Three a shot. One of the
things about the Big Three and we talked with Kenny
Martin about it, but he's like, hey, you know you
gotta give up. You gotta give it your summers and
you know you're summer summer weekends. Would would you make
any exceptions for a Kobe, Like, hey, Kobe, just come
play in l A. You just and then you can
play in the Championship. Would you make an exception everybody

(17:37):
else has had to sign up for the full term. Um,
I don't know if I would make that exception, but
you know, you never say never. We're trying to grow
the league. You know, we we don't want to be rigid.
We think we need to be fluid and be able
to make decisions. That's smart for the league. So of
course that's not ideal. But when we did, when we

(17:57):
signed people on this year, you know they would st cube.
You know, you call caught me off guard. I have commitments.
So you know Chauncey Billips he didn't play the whole
season because he had a few commitments here and there.
So we understand that. And if you let us know
early enough, you know, one or two is not not bad.
But you're talking about you're gonna miss six seven games,

(18:18):
it's probably not worth you playing ice cube. John us
here on the Doug Otlip Show. Big three is tomorrow
on Fox, not Fox Sports one. It's on Fox Live
one thirty Pacific Time called it Big Big Fox on
four thirty East Coast Time. Um, you said something which
I thought was really really smart yesterday. And forgive me
because I know you've been promoting on a bunch. I
don't remember what show it was on, but somebody was

(18:39):
asking about Kaepernick and you're like, look, forget about the
Kaepernick thing. It's taken away from police brutality and how
and how we we need to Uh, that's what this
is kind of all about. All right, So I'm a
sports fan. I'm watching I know I'm anti police brutality.
Why wouldn't you be right? Okay, So if if they
came to you and said, ice cube, how do we

(19:00):
fix how do we fix the problem? Because we point
enough athletes are now pointing out that this is a problem.
How do you begin the process of fixing the problem.
I think the first thing they need to do is
make police officers go to mandatory therapy. Mandatory not I'm
feeling funny. I need to talk to somebody every week.

(19:21):
You gotta go talk to somebody every week. You need
to go tell somebody what's on your mind. When it
comes to the job, you don't write nothing down, so
there's no record, nobody's gonna hold this against you. But
every week you need to go talk to somebody. I
think that would would relieve a lot of tension, because
we got a lot of officers that bottle up everything

(19:41):
because they want to be tough. They don't want nobody
to think they're losing it. They don't want their partner
to think they're going soft, so they keep a lot
of stuff bottled up. Sometimes it comes out in the
in the craziest way. So there's that's one thing we
could do. There's also I mean a substantially gotta be
a substantial amount of fear, right yeah, Like, like, let's
just be honest with the job. You don't you know

(20:03):
how people some people will perceive you. Plus, you walk
into an environment, you don't know who's packing, who's not packing,
You don't know. You pull a guy over, you may
just want to, you know, write a fix it ticket,
and you don't know what you're walking up on that
And any human being can act like a tough guy
would have fear, and so you might you might act
differently than you'd act as a human being, I think.
But look, mental health care is super for everybody, doubt

(20:26):
and pointing out for police officers, that would be a
great step. Um, all right, then what's step two? Step
two is you know, really, you know, creating an environment
I think where you know, good cops can weed out
the bad guys. You know, I think you know, it's
a thing where you know, you get some of these

(20:46):
guys that's running law enforcement. It's like having a team.
You know, you might want uh Ron R. Tests on
your team if he's your teammate, But if he's not
your teammate, you might not want him. You know, uh
ding you up so bad. So I think some of
the guys say, Yo, I'm glad this guy's on my team.
He might be a bad cop. Well, I'm glad he's

(21:07):
on our team. I think that we gotta lose that mentality.
I bad cops need to be off the force. Ice
Cube joining us. You mentioned Ron our Test. I don't
know if you saw this. He signed up for master
Piece trying to start a league, which is a co
ed basketball league. Co ed basketball league. Wow, we'll see.
It's pretty interesting. But that that makes you that that

(21:27):
makes you kind of you're you guys are trailblazers right now.
You've shown the league can survive. That's different than the NBA.
Now he wants he signs up ro on our Test
and I would guess former w NBA players as well.
And you get a co ed basketball Hey, you know,
let's see what to do. You know, I'll be interested
to see how it works. Um, you know, I ain't
gonna putting one past master p you know, he smart

(21:50):
at brain is always going so yeah, let's check it
out and see what he got. Ice Cube joining us
here on on the Doug Gottlieb Show. I grew up
in southern California. I just listened to your music, jick
uh and thanks to you guys and to some of
the stuff going on in South Central. We couldn't wear
Raiders hats. They didn't get the Raiders back. They got
the Rams, they got the Chargers. Is there anyway, the

(22:10):
Rams and the Charge they're trying this fight for l A.
Can they ever win l A? Or is that always
gonna be a Raiders town? I think the Rams can try.
You know, with success, you never know, you know, with
a Super Bowl championship, you never know how the city
is gonna react. But you know, it feels like a
Raider town. I don't think the Chargers got a chance.
I don't know what they were thinking bringing the Chargers

(22:33):
to l A. UM. I don't know what choice they
had though. They couldn't get a stadium built in San Diego,
Yes they could, they couldn't get it done. They could.
They wanted their stadium to be downtown, which was more
money than you know, just tearing up the stadium where
it is and rebuilding right there. They didn't want to
do it. They could have did that because it but

(22:54):
it was you only occupy. Let me give you, let
me give you the other side to it, all right,
and this is now you running not only your own
your your movie business and the record business, but also
uh with the Big Three. They're only gonna play in
that place ten times a year, right that that's at
that stadium. If it was downtown, would have given that
city Final four, super Bowl, multiple ball games because it

(23:15):
would have been a dome so he could have had
basket you know, the basketball events in there, would have
given them everything. Would give me a chance at an
NBA team if it's built right as well. Instead people
said build it at the exact same place, which that's
not the trend in stadiums. Everybody wants it built in
a central location, just like at Petco. It would have
made more financial sense for the city of San Diego
to be there, wouldn't it. I mean, I'm pretty sure

(23:38):
that it was better for everybody at the stadium was
right there downtown, and I think you know, they asked
the city to chip in, and the city said, no,
I think that's when the NFL should step in. The
NFL makes trillions of billions UH each year, and they can, uh,
you know, put the money in to keep teams where

(23:58):
they at. I ain't that would have been better than
what they're gonna get. What they're gonna get in l
A is a lukewarm reception, and you know you want
the lukewarm reception? Or do you want to spend some
extra money and build a stadium where you know you're
gonna have twenty thirty year fan base uh enjoying the stadium?

(24:19):
Will the Big Three championship? Is the plan to always
be here in Vegas? The championship to be here or
moving around? What? What's What's what? What are your thoughts
on that? What's great about the Big Three is we
can be anywhere, and you know, we want to take
basketball to places that that don't have a ProTeam that
might want to see you know, forty eight of your
favorite players, you know get together and do their thing.

(24:41):
So you know, what's great is that we're flexible. You know,
we'd love to come back to Vegas. Uh, and you know,
you never know, but it's not it's not the final
destination each year if you're head of this cent city,
it's at MGM Grand Gardens. And there's the third place game,
which is gonna be stream live at at noon uh
Pacific Coast time, three o'clock East Coast time. Of course,

(25:03):
the championship is on Big Fox. That's at four thirty
East Coast time, one thirty local time. Tickets are available
twenty bucks. If you've ever been, I've I've been with
my family. You ever been. It's awesome. The kids love it,
the players are right there. Uh, there's a great fan interaction.
There's always a musical guest as well. You just kind
of feel like you're part of something special. It has
been a stunning success. Ice Cube. I can't thank you

(25:26):
enough for joining us and for what you've done with
the Big Three. Thanks Doug. You know, it's really been
a pleasure, you know, bringing a Big Three this summer
to the fans, and we plan to keep it going.
Doors open, Eddie Levin, so come on through and hang out.
Ice Cube joining us here on the on the Doug
Gottlieb Show, an NFL owner said his team is open
to signing Colin Kaepernick. Appreciate it, open to signing Colin Kaepernick.

(25:49):
Does that mean Kaepernick will be on an NFL roster
later on this week? This month, Doug gotlip show Rosean
in Las Vegas. Great to have ice Cube on. We've
had him on a bunch of times and it's some
so much better. On's face to face right, just much more,
you know, much more personal. It's not just something handing
a phone to a guy, um, but his Uh what
were the Chargers thinking? You know? One of the things

(26:09):
that's interesting about it is people said, well, the NFL
should step in. Well here's the thing. The NFL did
step in, and they are helping build the stadium in
l A. And one of the reasons that the NFL
was okay with the Chargers moving and with the Rams
moving and the Raiders moving, is that to be a
relocation V So if you have to pay seven like alright,

(26:31):
So look here's the deal. Um, if you stay there
and we get a stadium in a location that um
is okay, that's what we get if we if you
we move you and put you in our stadium, we
make seven fifty million dollars or what's really the conversation there?
Is there really a right? So I think it's it

(26:56):
is a bit of a misconception by many people, by fans,
other people. San Diego screwed that thing up. Don't let
anybody tell you otherwise. And then look, there was a
lot of politics with it, and San Diego shot themselves
in the foot fifteen times over. They had a mayor
who was who was given massages to women who didn't
want massages. I mean, they had all kinds of stuff

(27:17):
going on politically. And of course it was also when
they when they began looking legitimately for a new stadium.
It was during the recession, which really hit San Diego
hard because San Diego was greatly affected by the real
estate market. All that said, this is a missed opportunity.
Chargers don't have a team, don't have a stadium, lost

(27:38):
out and what would be a uh a nap that
they would get a legitimate New Year's Day caliber bull
in addition to the two Bowl games they already have.
They would get a Final Four, they would get it,
potentially an NBA All Star Game, they would get anything
they would have wanted San Diego. You don't have to
bend anybody's arm. Instead, all of those events will be

(28:00):
going to Los Angeles to Las Vegas and I guess
to Dallas and Arizona those other stadiums, And that's why
it's absolutely worth it. And if you're like, why won't
an NFL team? An NFL team uses a stadium ten
times a year? Ten you do the math, there are
three hundred. You're like, oh, it's the charges that could
be more of it's the playoffs. Have you watched the

(28:21):
Chargers recently? Okay? Um, you know at most you're talking
about what thirteen times a year. That's that's the most
thirteen times in a year. So that's a that's not
even a vacation, that's a vacation home. That's a what
is it what do they call a time share? Let's
basically a timeshare and they were willing to put in

(28:42):
time share money. You have idiots on radio and TV
they're like, teams should always buy their stadium. Well, guess
what if they buy their stadium, then they're gonna charge
crazy rent because they're never in their stadium. That's why
cities build their stadiums because it's more valuable to the
cities and they can try ards are rent, and they
can own concessions and they can own Parking. That's when

(29:02):
the negotiations come in. All right, there, I saw this story. Uh,
Mike Dempsey worked for ten ten XL in Jacksonville. He
asked Shot Khan if he would sign off on the
signing of Colin Kaepernick, if that's what football football people want.

(29:25):
Shod con said absolutely. Shod Khan is the owner of
the Jacksonville Jaguars. And if you watch the Jacksonville Jaguars
was at last night. I've watched a lot of preseason football.
You watched the Jaguars last night. They still Blake Bortles
made some good plays and he made when I was
so good plays. Chad Henny was fine. He was Chad

(29:46):
Henny was a backup quarterback who might have to start.
No one has still won the Jacksonville Jaguars starting job.
And I like, look, I don't think it's crazy to
take a look at Kaepernick anyway, just because the Jaguars
appear to be playing for next year at the quarterback position,
and you can sign Kaepernick to a one year deal.
But remember their head their head coach is new It's
Doug Moron, but he's also a quarterback guy. His boss,

(30:10):
and the guy's really making decisions, there is Tom Coughlin,
So Coafflin holds his own opinion one on Kaepernick, two
on distractions, and three maybe most importantly, on the style
of quarterback he wants. Now he may have to relent
and bring in Kaepernick because he's the best available. But uh,

(30:31):
I think that I think that Sean kan saying I'd
sign him is in groundbreaking news. I think that a
lot of planets have to align in order for Kaepernick
to find the right spot. Like Greg Roman obviously wasn't
that into it in Baltimore, and Joe Flacco probably wasn't
that into it, and the city probably wasn't that into it.

(30:54):
Miami definitely wasn't that into him, and the quarterback he
didn't fit outam Case had worked with j Cutler before.
Cutler pretty good throwing the ball downfield when held onto
a fumble twice last night. But the bigger and more
important you have to have when you're at when you're
trying to make a roster. And I can tell you
this from my days in trying to make an NBA roster,

(31:16):
And of course Colin Kaepernick has a better resume than me.
But Colin Kaepernick is looking for a job, and all
of these teams already have three guys four guys at
his position. They gotta cut a couple back. So in
order when you're trying to make a league, the stars
have to align. Like Text Winner, my dad coach with
Text Winner. He was an assistant at Long Beach State.

(31:38):
So tex got me in with the Lakers three different times,
and the coaching staff liked me. But they ran Triangle,
which obviously was Text Winners offense. The triangle was not
good for the way I apply was a pick and roll,
creative point guard that was not tell me who that where?
That position exists with the Bulls. With the Lakers when

(31:58):
text was implementing the offense, it didn't. The stars just
didn't align. They kept Mike Pemberley one year and Joe
Crispin another. So I point that out because does that
mean Jake Cutler is Absolutely but I think Jay Culer
is better than Kaepernick. But he's also a much better
fit for that offense. Does that mean that that he's
not that he couldn't be as good as Chad Henny

(32:20):
or as Blake Bortles. Maybe, but they are pot committed
with Blake Bortles as quarterback and Henny is a solid
backup and he's more what Tom Coughlin has always been
accustomed to. Traditional play action drop back passer. Jim Brown
is one of the greatest players in the history of
the NFL. He's also an activist. He gave his thoughts

(32:41):
on the Colin Kaepernick situation and what he has to
do to get back in the NFL. What did he say?
Find out next? What True Car? You can find out
what other people in your area paid for the same
car you're looking for new or used. Visit True Car
to enjoy more confident car buying experience. All right, we

(33:03):
had ice Cube on earlier. If you missed that, you
can download the Dug Out Lip Show podcast. We actually
talked about mental health care for police officers. I thought
it was outstanding. All right, that was outstanding. I still
don't know, he said. I said, what was if you
can if you want to eliminate or uh yeah, I
don't think you're ever gonna completely eliminate the idea of
police brutality, although I don't think it's as bad as

(33:28):
some would perceive it. But anyway, um, if you want
to eliminate police brutality, So what was the first thing
you do, And he said I would have mandatory mental
health care sessions weekly with police officers. Now, the reality
to it is that's prohibitively expensive, right. Uh. The reality
to it is, if you go back and you remember

(33:52):
the O. J. Trow one of the things that really
hurt the prosecution was Mark Ferman went in for mental
health care, and I believe is uh they used the
notes from his uh the letter he had written in
in in therapy against him. Obviously they're racist things, and

(34:12):
uh he became painted as a racist um through his
own words. So I think there will be some reluctance
there the financial aspect of it. But I also I
don't know if I like that ice Cube has a
healthy respect for mental health care. I don't know if
we do as a country, Like I actually think that

(34:33):
would help. I think it help everybody. You go talk
to somebody. Not everybody has somebody to talk to you,
And most people don't have somebody they can talk to
with complete and total honesty and candor. And if you
don't go to therapy, you don't have somebody who can
talk to with honest therapy, honest honesty, who is trained
and me and can help kind of guide you on

(34:55):
a path to improving yourself. So I just don't know
if that changes the person option immediately. Um and a
lot of this is a perception battle as much as
a reality battle. Let's play a game. Okay, this is
game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Dan Buyer joins us,

(35:20):
Dan Buyer joins us, we got this for you. Doug.
Psychic who a chance to look ahead. Let's talk to
our psychic friend. Doug has great psychic powers. Maybe he
can see what's ahead for Colin Kaepernick. That's because Pro
Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown told the Postgame dot
Com that Kaepernick needs to choose between being an activist

(35:41):
or a football player. So psychic, will Kaepernick take Brown's
advice and choose one or the other in the near future. Um, yes,
I think you will. I think you'll become an activist.
Be playing days would be over then for Colin Kaepernick,
I think that's gonna up him. That would be one
of those things as you were just talking about the

(36:03):
issue earlier. Heck, football is only there for a little
while longer. We'll see if Colin Kaepernick takes the advice
of Jim Brown. How about this from the world of
college football. Clemson gave head football coach Dabo Sweeney and
eight your extension, with only Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh
now making more on an annual basis. Psychic, who is
the next college football coach that will pass Sweeney in

(36:25):
the salary race on an annual basis? Oh, that's a
that's a really good question. All right, So here's what
you have to have. You have to be a guy
who I mean, you know, Nick Saban is gonna get
bumped up even more, but he's already ahead of Dabbo Sweeney, right,
So you gotta find you gotta find have an up
and coming coach who has yet to get paid. Uh,
James Franklin was paid. I don't think in Oklahoma just

(36:49):
hired their coach and they're not giving him a raise.
And let's see Washington, Oklahoma State. He just gotta he
just got a new We know how much Jim Harball
makes Urban Myer may be a boost up. I think
he already makes a crazy he's just shy of so
he's just shy of him. Urban makes about six and
a half million. Sweeney I'll make six point seven five million.

(37:13):
I'll go with Urban Meyer because I kind of think
they're gonna win a national championship, And if they win
a national championship like Dabo Sweeney one NAST champonship, then
it'll be the highest paid coach in college football. I'll
go with Ever. Remind Jimbo Fisher could have been another name,
is uh popping up? Yeah, I mean I like Florida State.
I also I look at Florida State schedule and they're uh,

(37:33):
they're ranked right behind him. Remember they opened up with Alabama. Uh,
then they have Miami, they have Louisville, but have Louisville
at home. They go to Clemson. That's late in the year,
and I don't know if anybody knows what we're gonna
get out of Clemson. Um, but yeah, they have a
schedule to which and they play Florida on the road.
I just I think Ohio State is more likely to
win a national championship in Urban more likely to get paid.

(37:55):
Speaking of Florida State, their school president John Thrasher had
a prediction for that. She's an opener against Alabama that
you mentioned, Doug saying, quote, I shouldn't talk too much trash,
but I think we're gonna beat Alabama pretty bad next week.
I really do. End quote so psychic. Well, this comment
come back to Haunt school president John Thrasher. No. Well,

(38:17):
first of all, I mean, anybody who ever been around
their school president, you know, all they are is a
is a towel waving fan, right, That's like that's their
job to be the biggest fan of their wife, to
be an even bigger fan of of everything. But I
actually think he's right. I think they're gonna beat Albabmas.
I like that. I mean, it's not that, but it's

(38:39):
not that big an upset like Florida State. Um, Florida
State's got a ton of a ton of talent. They
were just young last year. And and I love watching
DeAndre Francois play. Um, I like hearing Gene Deckerhoff say
Francois now that's now. Losing Dalvin Cook obviously hurt them.
But I think they're gonna beat Athletic quarterbacks always give

(39:01):
Alabama trouble. Great France, how how great is that? Finally,
you guys have been in Vegas the last couple of days.
Are you and Ryan Music and the party apparently instant
over Doug Gottlieb Show producer Ryan Music telling me he's
not going to be back until Sunday morning. So psychic.

(39:21):
What will Ryan Music's blood alcohol content be a Friday
nights and Saturday nights in Las Vegas? His b A
C will be somewhere above point one but below point too.
I he had one drink last night, but a very
measured young man like he was not He's not going
full hangover on us. Uh. So I would say it

(39:42):
will be in the one two to one four area.
Uh more like you know, more of like Ramoss g
p A Becks, that's gold, that's cold. Is game time
on the Doug gottlie Show. I'm not a music guy,

(40:02):
so something uh I said. Something I said about the
real story in the NBA not being Lebron James has
has been brought up by others. I'm not gonna sit
here and gloat and say I told you so, but
I did tell you so. But I I'm gonna We're
gonna continue to point out that's the real biggest story
in this NBA offseason outside of the trades, not not Lebron.

(40:25):
What he'll do that up coming next in the Doug
Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. What up, Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio, Coming to you from Sin City, Do
Do Do Do Do Do Do, Las Vegas, Nevada, where

(40:46):
I have predicted water World. I'm predicting water World for
our our world. At some point, the polar ice caps
will in fact melt and we will be uh, but
I think we'll be long gone. Um. Hopefully our grandkids
are good swimmers, right, good on the boat? I guess uh.

(41:07):
I told you I'm gonna say, was this last week?
And it was last week? I hosted the Herd uh
for calling Cowherd on Friday? And I said, then, what
has been said? In a Royce Young piece? Royce Young
used to cover the thunder Nelly covers all of basketball. Also,
I believe they moved him to cover the Golden State Warriors. Uh.

(41:31):
Royce Young said that, um, hey, you know, maybe Lebron
next year isn't the big story because Lebron We're not
going to know until the season is over. Right, when
the season is over, we may be able to read
the tea leaves and figure things out. But October six,

(41:52):
we will know exactly what Russell Westbrooks plans are or
are not. He has until October six to sign a
contract extension, which should be the largest in the history
of the NBA five years, two seven million dollars. Remember,

(42:12):
he agreed doing extension last summer when Durant left and
he talked about loyalty, and he didn't know the new
designated player extension was coming. He thought he was signing
a deal that extended him to a ten year veteran
max pumped at thirty five percent of the team's cap.
He thought he played out two more seasons and then
revisit his future in free agency in the summer of

(42:34):
two thousand eighteen. That's next year. He was making equitment
to the thunder After after Kevin Durant's departure. But now,
all of a sudden, a lot seems to have changed
the difference. Royce Young says the key is the years.
The rules of a designated player extension stipulate a minimum

(42:56):
of five years, with the only player option being for
year five. Sign the deal would put west Westbrook under
contract until he's thirty four years old. If you wait
until next summer, he could sign a two or three
year deal hit free agency again at thirty one or
thirty two. In terms of inking another mega contract after
this one, Westbrook would be factoring in life at thirty

(43:17):
two Verses thirty four. But if he turns down two
hundred and seven million dollars, isn't he isn't he telling
you all you need to know? That's like you get
down on your knee and you ask your girl to
marry you and you've been you've been dating this long,
and she goes, I don't know, Like, no, no no, I'm
not saying we had to get married tomorrow. I'm saying,

(43:40):
will you marry me? And if she says I don't know,
then you know, let me think about it. And then
a day passes by. S all right, you got into
October to think about. October passed. But he's like, I'll
let you know at the end of the season. This

(44:01):
is not a good thing if you're the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Which is interesting because um which is because because to me,
that's the bigger story than Lebron because we will have
a definitive sense of where Russell Westbrook is mentally. Is

(44:23):
he locked into staying in Oklahoma City by October six?
And frankly, we should kind of already know, they've already
asked him to be married for five years. They've already
said we'll move mountains and we'll get you. Paul George
will get you what everyone and he has said, I
don't know, and look, the thunder are beholden to him.
They can't get a free agent of his caliber. But
you kind of already know. Rick Buker from bleacher Board,

(44:46):
he joins the show sometimes. He said there's no consensus
among NBA executives who got the better end of the
Cleveland of Boston deal, which means, by the way, it
could end up being an actual fair trade. Um, the
deal doesn't change a thing. He's out. A Western Conference
scout says, foregone conclusion. One Eastern Conference genterlem manager says,

(45:09):
I don't see him staying in Cleveland. Another says that,
of course, talking about Lebron James, there are a host
of reasons setting up his post playing career and TV
movie production, attempting to lead three different teams to a championship,
creating a path for an ownership steak in the Lakers,
where he cannot and appears to not have a desire

(45:32):
to own the Cleveland Cavaliers, doesn't want to be in
business with Dan Gilbert. So these things all do make sense. Um.
The one thing that that NBA people are talking about
that hasn't necessarily been discussed enough in terms of the
trade is it is not a foregone conclusion that the

(45:54):
Brooklyn Nets pick will be a top three pick next year.
Right last couple of years they have had the worst
roster in the sport, and the seventies sixers are likely
to get better. They have been the other kind of
laughing stock of the league. I would guess the Phoenix

(46:14):
Suns get better, but you have Sacramento, you have the
chance of Dallas being really bad, really bad. Um, the
Chicago Bulls are gutting their roster, the Indiana Pacers are too.
And the Brooklyn Nets, though they were just twenty and

(46:36):
sixty two last year, they've kind of gotten better this offseason.
They've taken on some bad contracts, but they're not terrible.
They're not terrible. They're not good, but they're not terrible.
And if it's not a top three pick, well then
Boston absolutely won the trade. If it's the number one pick,

(47:00):
I think Cleveland did well on the trade, did as
well as they can do, did as well as they
can do. Coming up next, Amy Trask is going to
join us a great conversation. Here's the conversation I had
with her. This is going back two years ago. She
used to be the CEO of the Oakland Raiders. Full disclosure,
My sister was her number two for a good period

(47:21):
of time, and we talked about on and off air
that the Raiders to l A, the Raiders to Vegas
made the most sense of anything. You have to understand
each market being different. Now. Part of the reason that
the for example, the Chargers haven't been met with great
fan faire is there wasn't this wanton desire from people

(47:44):
in Los Angeles to have another NFL team, let alone
to have an NFL team, or to have another NFL
team once they got one last year. Couple that with
the fact that the Chargers had never been a team
that anybody had grown up really rooting for in Los Angeles,
in Orange County a little bit, but in Los Angeles
not really at all. They're actually the arch rival of

(48:07):
the Oakland Raiders. Um but whereas Las Vegas has been
looking for a signature pro sports fan franchise to throw
their arms round. The only missing piece the only thing
you can't do on the strip is go to a
big time football game at a big time football stadium
or any sort of You can't have a big time

(48:28):
soccer match here. Now they're in the running for the
world for a World Cup site. Like the only thing
missing in the You can do anything in Las Vegas.
In our hotel, you can see human remains in the
bodies in the in the body's um exhibit. You can
see a magician. You can see artifacts from the Titanic.

(48:51):
I'm not kidding you. You can see artifacts from the Titanic.
There's indoor amusement parks at several of these places. There's
roller coasters. There is nothing you cannot do in Las Vegas,
with the exception up until three years from now of
going and seeing an NFL game. We're going and seeing
a big time professional sports sporting event I don't know,

(49:14):
at a football stadium, and now you can't. It was
the missing piece. But it's also about you know, when
Las Vegas expanded kind of beyond its normally its means
as a city before the recession. People who are moving
to law Las Vegas did so because there's jobs here,
but there are more lower end jobs, and those fans white, black,

(49:37):
or Hispanic were almost all that demographic. Almost all Raider
fans from Inland Los Angeles, from Riverside and parts of
Orange County and from Ventura Counties. Also from northern California.
Kind of old school hardcore Raider fans have also moved here,
and now the Raiders are moving here from Oakland. It

(49:58):
makes a ton of set. I want to ask her
about the movement of these teams and how ultimately it
settles out. I want to ask her about UH from
a CEO's perspective, what it's what it's actually like acquiring
a player that some sponsors like a Colin Kaepernick, some
sponsors would not be too hip on. And we'll ask

(50:20):
her about the Big Three UH coming on board a
little bit late, becoming their CEO, and how viable she
feels like this league ultimately can be. We'll do that
and get her thoughts on Shot Khan's comments that he
would welcome Colin Kaepernick onto his team right now, I
think anybody who could throw a football he would welcome
onto his team. That's upcoming next, but first, on Saturday, August,

(50:44):

She's Amy Trash. She joins us here in Las Vegas.
A prediction both you and I made a couple of
years ago when I was at a different network has
come to fruition and network that how you do football

(52:32):
coverage for UMU has come to fruition. The Raiders are coming,
your former team coming to Las Vegas. And we said
then it made the most sense. At the end of
the day, did it make the most sense or should
they have stayed or are gone San Diego? Well, I
think you have to divide that into pieces. Look, I

(52:53):
think there was a deal to be done in Oakland.
I think there was an intelligent deal to be done
in Oakland that worked for the city and the county
on the team, and it would have taken and compromise
all around, just as every team compromises when it does
a deal, no matter in the location. We saw the
Raiders focus all of their resources, economic and otherwise on
pursuing the Los Angeles opportunity with the Chargers. When that

(53:14):
didn't pan out, they didn't turn their attention back to Oakland.
They dove right in and worked on Las Vegas. And
certainly this is a very, very intriguing market for the Raiders.
I'm heartbroken for the fans in the Bay Area. My
heart really is with those fans. But Raider fans will
come come from a lot of places in the country,
including some from the Bay Area will come to Las Vegas.

(53:36):
But Doug, you know, I always love our chats because
they're on a different intellectual level than a lot of them.
So I'll post too. I will pose two questions for you.
Vegas is synonymous with disposable income. When this country hits
an economic slump, and it will I mean whether because
there's an event that triggers it, or simply because it's
cyclical and we're in an economic downturn. How does that

(53:59):
stadium work in this city? Is it as attractive financially
as it is right now while we're in a boom.
I think it's like it's a great question, um, And look,
this place was, this place is hurt by the recession
and actually has had a tough summer if you've asked locals,
because the dollar is uh is so so strong right

(54:19):
now that they're not getting the Latin American money, they're
not getting uh, the Asian tourist nearly like like they
usually do. And so even an economic boom and the
dollar being strong and actually can can hurt um at
the premium end of the market here in Las Vegas.
I think it does because as you kind of go
through it, One Vegas forever, they and we want to

(54:42):
be a legit city, right, And like, what do you
have to have to have be a legit city? I
need a pro sports franchise you needed? You just first
need a stadium. Have you ever been to Sandboys? I
don't know anyone on Earth who's ever actually been to
Sandboys Stadium. I know it exists, I know you know
V plays there. You go back thirty five years ago.
My dad was assistant to Long Beach State and the
football team came. Long State used to have a football team.

(55:03):
They played at Sandboy's team. But I don't really know
what is right and uh and um what's his name?
We just got ducked in the Hall of Fame from
went to Georgia and then T D. Terrell Davis was
their last running back before the anyway point is like,
you can do anything on the strip in Las Vegas, right,
can you can go see the ruins from the Titanic

(55:25):
at the Luxur Hotel? Like what Yeah, the ruins from
the Titanic right across the street. You can do anything,
but you couldn't go see a big time soccer match,
big time football game. You know, now you have. I
don't know if the NFL would ever give him a
Super Bowl, but now the likelihood of New Year's Day
Bowl increases, So the answer is yeah, I kind of
think this is in the old kind of mafia mentality

(55:48):
of they they came out to to Nevada to to
go legit, right, casinos allowed them to go legit. I
think this is the city of Vegas trying to go
legit we got Tesla up in Reno, and we got
a football stadium and a legit pro sports franchise in
Las Veles, and you've got no state income tax hence
Tesla and some other businesses that are coming to Nevada.
But you know, you raise an interesting point about the

(56:10):
premium customers. Do I believe that stadium is going to
be full of fans? I absolutely do. Um. Look, it's
about a three hour drive from the inland empire of
Los Angeles, absolutely right, and a lot of those fans
will migrate here for weekends to to go to the game.
That you did raise the interesting issue, which is in
an in an economic, economically trying time premium product. I

(56:34):
think the team is also going to have to have
a big paradigm shift when it comes to fans at
the games on Sundays right now. For somebody who's like,
I don't even know what a paradigm shift is, do
you know what the paradise I don't. I don't buy
you you you you know exactly paradigm al right here? Um,
what they're going to expect on game day right now?
You know, you go into that Oakland Colisseum on game

(56:55):
day and it is a sea of silver and black,
and sure there are some fans of visiting team, but
not a lot of them. I think that's gonna change
in Las Vegas because if you're a fan of the
visiting team and you look at that schedule when it
comes out in April, and you can pick one game
to which you and your buddies can travel, You're gonna
pick Las Vegas. So I believe the Raiders the paradigm

(57:16):
shift to which I referred as, they're now going to
have a stadium with a lot more visiting team fans,
and you know that that um black hole is something
pretty pretty special, and that'll be different. I think that
will be the upper deck. I think the lower deck
will still be the black hole. I mean, look, you
don't want one of the things that I think always
hurt the Raider helped the Raiders in terms of the
vibrancy of their fan base in that lower socio economic range.

(57:39):
Hurt them because there was the sense you couldn't go
in there from the old l A Raider days. You know,
there's a remember the Steeler fan that got beaten up
and put in the hospital, and so you don't you
don't want that right, you don't want like and that
changed over time and that was fixed over time. But um,
I just think it will be a very interesting study
in what happens to a game day experience once the team.

(58:00):
I think the whole thing is fast, like I don't know,
and like if you're listening to Stuck Out like show
on Fox Sports Rader, that's a voice of Amy Trash.
She's been the CEO of the Oakland Raiders. She's the
CEO of the Big Three. We will get into the
Big Three and and the first season and what appears
to be uh an even better second season on the horizon.
I know I overwhelmed you when I asked you about
what called her and asked her about it. So the
second season, Amy, here's an idea. She's like, WHOA, I

(58:20):
just got to get through the first season. But in fact,
I said, Dug, Dug, I'm paddling as fast as I
can to keep my nose above water, and I'm not
always succeeding. But you did have some sensational ideas for
our second season and shared him internally, shared him with Cube,
shared them with Jeff Kuantin. That's and they're good ideas,
so so but the case study is this. You have Vegas,

(58:41):
and I think the Vegas thing works also to be
a dome. I don't know if they're got a Final Four,
but you can do basketball there. You can do a
lot of things there. Um. I think the l A
Stadium will work because the NFL network has a home there.
It's a it's gonna be an unbelievable venue. I I'm
kind of intrigued by will the Chargers work. But in

(59:02):
the meantime, the idea of a smaller stadium because one
of the big challenges, one of the huge challenges to uh,
what your job when you're running marketing and and trying
to is why would anybody go to these games? They're
so expensive? And I can't watch all the other games.
You're everybody has a beautiful TV on their wall by
the red zone. It costs as much as ticket to

(59:23):
one game, and you can watch all of the games,
and so it's hard to get people in the door.
Will the Chargers kind of stumble into something genius in
a small stadium? I think what the Chargers did was brilliant.
And you know, I don't know how much you've um
heard me yapping on and on about this, but I've
yammered about this since before I left the Raiders. It
was something I pitched to the organization for a creative
Solution in Oakland. I referred to it as the Petite Stadium,

(59:47):
and I did that somewhat tongue in cheek because I
know the word petite doesn't generally go with NFL. Lots
of people came up with alternative names. Rachel Nichols suggested
we use bite size instead and sell it to Snickers. Um.
But a small stadium, A scale down stadium, A stadium
in the forty thousand range where you could essentially emulate
the living room experience. You'd have better connectivity, your chairs

(01:00:09):
would swivel, you'd have pads embedded in the chair in
front of you so you could pull up your own
replay to order. A scale down again, intimate stadium, I
call it petite. What the Chargers did was brilliant. They
have inverted the supply and demand curve from day one.
But I do agree with you about that stadium in Englewood.
It'll be sensational. And remember l A hasn't had a

(01:00:32):
new stadium since nineteen twenty three. Now, even listen, listen,
up listeners. Even I'm not old enough to have been there.
In nineteen twenty three, that's when the Coliseum came online.
The Rose Bowl came in ninety two. L A hasn't
had a new, state of the art football stadium. No,
it's it's fascinating. I guess that the two questions are

(01:00:53):
because because and the idea of that is what they're
doing in movie theaters. Right, do you go to movie theaters?
Now it's room literally a check and you get a
weight service, you can have drinks, you can do whatever,
and people will pay a premium price. And it's save
movie theaters because you know so many of them are
closing and now they've kind of reformed it. The question
that becomes, how you know the financials of it? Okay,

(01:01:16):
how much more money do you lose? Though when you
cut out, I don't think you'd lose a lot. And
I'll tell you why. One of the most expensive pieces
of a stadium to construct is the third deck. Because
of the quantity of materials concrete, steel, etcetera. It's the
hardest deck to monetize and the most expensive deck to build.

(01:01:37):
So when I've talked for years and years and years
now to the point where people are rolling their eyes
every time I say, but wait, wait my petit stadium.
The pushback is, well, then teams are going to price
out the little guy because there'll there'll be so many
fewer tickets. Not true. You just saved yourself hundreds of
millions of dollars on that third deck. You can now
scale your house to reflect a cheaper building to build. Yeah,

(01:01:59):
I know, but how these the same conversations like, yeah,
but we can't get a Super Bowl. Yeah, but and
someone's just the ego of saying, well, our stadium is
bigger than your stadium, you know that, Like you're you're
making way too much sense. I never thought i'd go
on the radio with you and we'd be discussing who's
this big art? Yes, well that's funny. Uh And like
whoever thought we would it would have been discussed in

(01:02:19):
a different context in the presidential election, but it actually
look at look at us. We're talking. We're talking financial statements,
we're talking stadium finance. Right, Can you hang with me
for for just a moment, Okay, I want to ask
you I have I think this is gonna be water World.
I think Mayweather McGregor is gonna be water World. I'll
I'll pitch you to you. Wait wait wait, wait wait,

(01:02:41):
let the slow class catch up. Give me the water
World reft water World, the move the movie water was
on that end we you went nine. I'll remind you
what the flop that was water World. Oh that's what
you're allusing. Okay, so you're The analogy you're drawing is
that that movie didn't do I thought there was like
a scene or an act. No, there's a little bit

(01:03:02):
more to it than it didn't. It did a little.
It did better than proceed, but didn't do well. And
some of the reasons it didn't do well is some
of the reasons I don't think this one will do well.
We'll get to that. Plus uh talk about the Big Three,
the season, the Championship with Amy Trash after after we
find out what's trendy Doug Gotlim show rolls on Fox
Sports Radio. Amy Trash, CEO of the Big Three, joins

(01:03:24):
the former CEO of the Oakland Raiders. Um okay, so
water Wor Kevin Costner was the biggest uh movie star
on Earth on the on the planet right, if you
Gotta go back, Dances with the Wolves, preceded it. Uh,
there was some other movies, some of all the um
Bulderham proceeded that one. Didn't like that? You didn't like

(01:03:45):
how did somebody in the sports I love sports movies.
I just didn't like Bull Durham. Wow. I didn't like
that Field of Dreams one either, And it wasn't a
big field of dreams. Guy, that's sacrileges to a lot
of people. I didn't talking or something. Yeah, anyway, Kevin
cost is the biggest, biggest movie star on earth. He
co produces this movie and it's set in the future

(01:04:05):
polar ice caps melt, and um, they spent more money
than had ever been spent in a movie, hundred seventy
five million at the time, and they end up making money,
you know when it went overseas and DVDs or whatever.
But by and large it was a flop. It was Uh,
it was nominated for like one Academy Award, but like
Best Sound really and not really what you're kind of
looking for. And it's synonymous with kind of overspending based

(01:04:29):
upon the hypo of one actor spend to hyper ratio. Yeah,
and I kind of think that's what we have here.
Like Mayweather and McGregor. We've seen these Mayweather fights. They're
not good. He's genius because he keeps getting guys that
can't beat him. And now he's got a guy that
has has never been in a professional boxing match before,
but he's got the hype up because mcmcgregor is so

(01:04:52):
beloved by his fan base. And there's the there's the
the boxing versus m m A m m A looking
for respect boxing not really respecting the true craft and
art of it. And at the end of the day,
I feel like you can't fool sports fans, especially boxing fans.
You can't fool them. There's not the normal hype of
a Vegas super fight. It still can't sell the tickets,

(01:05:13):
and the pay per view is gonna struggle. Well, Doug,
it's because everyone's focused on the Big Three Championship tomorrow.
But I see the Vegas. Vegas is buzzying about the
Big Three. Look, you know, you hit the nail on
the head visa the fight. It'll be interesting to see
how those pay per view numbers ultimately come in and um,
how strong they are. I'm not your girl to talk

(01:05:34):
fight economics. Um, it's really not my cup of tea.
It's not my strong suit in terms of the economics
of it, but it'll be interesting to see how those
pay per pay per view. Yeah, thank you, that's the word.
How those numbers. Red River rivalry always gives me, always
gives me difficulty. But I say it because I think
it bleeds into the Big Three. Because remember you guys
were supposed to be at night. That at night, Sidy

(01:05:54):
moved it up to me on Fox at four thirty
on Big Fox East Coast time, one thirty local time.
Can I add and thing to that. We've got two
games tomorrow, so the Championship, you're absolutely right, is going
to be on Big Fox at one thirty. But prior
to that at noon, we've got Team three playing Team
four as opposed to one versus two in the Championship.
Fox is doing some really really just let me use

(01:06:16):
my word nto things with that in terms of putting
it across a lot of social media outlets, and um,
there's gonna be both the game broadcast on social media
as well as a lot of sideline fun and stuff.
So you guys are doing great things with both of
our dams. It's gonna be really cool. I know they're
they're doing some drone shots today with uh ice Cube

(01:06:37):
is going over to the you know the sign graveyard.
You know that is that there's a Neon signed graveyard
in Las Vegas that they used sometimes on different movie shoots.
Do not know about that until yesterday when we were
in a meeting with your Fox compatriots, and now I
know about it. Yeah, it's it's it's gonna be gonna
be very cool. And again that's on Big Fox. You'll
see it at at one thirty Pacific coast time, four

(01:06:57):
thirty East coast time online and you can check out
the three versus four matchup. Um. Yeah, I just I
think it would have been an unbelievable ramp up had
there been a had this been a better card, had
this been a better fight instead. First, they outpriced the market, right.
They didn't realize that boxing fans have the money they'll

(01:07:18):
pay the premium seats, whereas UFC fans that actually had
the energy for this fight. They're from a lower socio
economic range and they just they got priced out and
so they got scared away. They are are gonna buy
it on pay per view. I think it they'll end
up making money less. Much like water World made money,
but it's not going to be what Titanic was that
spent more money and was made only two years after

(01:07:39):
water World. Interesting, and again I don't I don't know,
but you raise a heck of an interesting point about
possible mixed marketing. It's interesting, Um, okay, the marketing of
the Big Three? Uh? You you came in to a
league to which I think people want to dip their
toe in the water and say, will people want basketball
outside of the NBA? But the tie two NBA players? Uh,

(01:08:02):
what has it been like in the search for legitimacy?
Because I feel like, as a fan and a it's consumer,
I was cautious, maybe cautiously optimistic, and I was really
pleasantly surprised at the quality of play, quality of of
of the production, frankly for my company, but also uh,
the fan response in that, you know, like I didn't

(01:08:22):
know how it would be a week two and I
thought week two was better than week one, and week
three was better than week two, and I thought he
got better. What's your perspective on it? Well, I agree
with you. I think we've gotten better every week and
I don't think that's a surprise. This league was the
dream and vision of ice Cube and Jeff Quantin. It's
They announced it in roughly January and tip off and
by the way, it's taken me several months. I joined
the league in late April, and for the first three

(01:08:43):
months I kept saying kickoff, and everybody would roll their
eyes and say no, no, no, I mean it's tip off. Um,
you know, tip off was not too long after they
announced the league, so it's not surprising that we're getting
stronger every single week. What impressed me the most from
the moment I joined the league is the level of
competition that these players are bringing to the game. As

(01:09:04):
I said, I joined in late April. We had a
practice game in Long Beach, I think it was at
late May uh and and this was a practice game
that we did in conjunction with Fox so we could
work out broadcast issues. The players that came for a
practice game, and Gary Payton, with whom I really do
need to have a trash talking competition because I know
I can take him. Um he was coaching that practice game.

(01:09:27):
These men are here to compete, they are here to win,
and it is ferocious competition and it is good basketball.
It's also a lot of fun. You don't know on
a given game day, who's gonna pop up and entertain
the crowd, whether it's gonna be fabulous, or whether it's
gonna be Snoop, or whether it's gonna be someone else.
It's a wonderful mix of basketball, real competitive basketball with

(01:09:51):
men who I'll quote my friend, you play the game
to win, and it's also a lot of fun and entertainment.
And we've gone out of our way to make it
family friendly. You know, tomorrow, as with every game, if
you're thirteen are under and you come with a responsible adult,
you're in for free. And our players and coaches are
interacting and signing autographs with the fans during the games. Yeah,

(01:10:14):
it's a it's a it's an incredible fan event. My
friends have gone, I've taken my family. It's it's outstanding. Okay,
So let me let me get back into your wheelhouse.
In running an NFL franchise, a lot of talk about
Kaepernick and shot cons like, yeah, sure, I love to
love to sign him. He's the owner of the Jaguars,
But it's up to the football people. You've been in
those rooms, Um, how much to say does the CEO

(01:10:36):
have how how important is it in terms of sponsor
calls and says, Hey, I've had a box at your
stadium for twenty years. You know I don't want that
guy on your I'm I'm pulling everything. If you signed
Colin Kaepernick, how much of that uh place a part
in the decision to sign or not sign a player?
Not looking to punt on the question, the answer is

(01:10:58):
it depends. And I'll tell you why I am into
that way. There are thirty two owners in the NFL,
and each of those owners is going to handle those
issues differently. I will tell you right now. Al Davis
made his football decisions without any regard whatsoever to impact
it would have on anything but his view of the
impact on the team and the ability to win his view,

(01:11:20):
and people didn't always agree with his decisions. But I
can tell you, irrespective of whether you agreed with his
fundamental decisions as to the team, all of those decisions
were simply born of will this help our team? There
are other owners who are looking at the marketing issues
and the pr issues and the other issues of that nature. So, Doug,

(01:11:40):
it really depends. Um. You know, Shad Khan came to
this country from another one has made a spectacular, spectacular
success for himself. Um, you know every single one of
us sitting here. As an immigrant, he has a loud,
important voice in this. We'll see what his team does.
I the it depends. Thing is great, here's how I

(01:12:03):
how I positioned it. And as a guy who never
made the NBA, I knew in order to make it,
all the stars had to align right. I was with
the Lakers several times they ran the triangle. I want
a triangle guy. I just wasn't. And uh, Phil Jackson
is a coach with somebody he'd liked bigger guards. If
you want a triangle, he wanted somebody who's bigger so
you could switch off positions. For Colin Kaepernick, he has

(01:12:26):
to find a coach that values the way he plays quarterback,
which is is unique in comparison to the traditional drop
back passer. He has to find a city which would
be accepting of him, and an owner and a front
office that that is comfortable in their own skin. I
mean I talked to a GM who told me like, Hey,
the problem ain't hiring Colin Kaepernick and put him as

(01:12:48):
your backup. The problem is what if you started and
play well you know, because people in the locker room were,
like Colin kaeper gonna like him, people outside are gonna
like him. What if your starting quarterback doesn't play well,
is there a push to start him? Or what if
he's not any good and he just side to cut him?
Now are people gonna think you cut him because of
the distraction? And then you could lose part of your
locker room well and and by the way, that's similar
to the Michael sam issue when he was cut. Um.

(01:13:10):
You know I have two answers to that. You you
just used a word that made me crazy for almost
thirty years in the NFL, which is when coach would
a coach would use the word distraction. I am not
exaggerating when I tell you that on a flight home
from a game, we had a coach who just had
a hissy fit at thirty four thousand feet in the air,

(01:13:30):
going crazy because we didn't have the right kind of
candy bars on the airplane. And he labeled that a distraction.
And you know my response to him was several fold,
which is, you know, if you think that's a distraction,
we have an issue, because what do we tell kids
all the time, don't let anything distract. You do your homework.
Don't pay attention to that. Don't let that distract. You

(01:13:51):
do your homework. You're the coach. It's you're a good coach,
does not let things distract him. And by the way,
what is that we were supposed to do? It was
that after the Super Bowl year, because after the Superow year,
the Raiders appeared to be plenty distracted. Before the Super
Bowl year, you know, it was well before, well before.
But I will say this, the whole concept of distraction.

(01:14:13):
You know what, if you're a good coach, you don't
let things distract your team. Look that it sounds great,
the reality of it. You want to distraction. You think
Bill Belichick lets anything distract nobody? You think Bill Belichick
would would sign him as a as a backup? I
don't know. I think the answer is probably not. And
what they would say is it's now. The great thing

(01:14:33):
about him is he has Tom Brady, so there's no
question who the starting quarterback is. They're just not um,
but somebody else. You know, Like, look, if you're Joe
Flacco in Baltimore and he has a bad back, I
can tell you UM with pretty good certainty that Joe
Flacco when they when they start talking about Brandon Colin
Caperney's I don't want that because if Flacco plays poorly,

(01:14:56):
those same patient people who pushed for him to get
a job are going to be the same people who
pushed for him to start. You're not starting in black
is not good? Why Why can't Colin Kaepernick be the starter? Well?
What bothers me in a lot of this discussion is
that there's not a lot of intellectual honesty, um with
some of the comments that I have read, which is,
you know, you're an owner of a team, and for
the you know, I'm gesturing with my hands as if

(01:15:17):
your listeners can hear me pointing see me pointing at you,
and they can't. Um. I do want to remind them, though,
that I was not alive in Look, we've seen backup
signed all this offseason that can't hold a candle to
call in in terms of skill. What I find, um,
you know, what was that great Chad Johnson expression? Child? Please, UM,

(01:15:39):
don't tell me that he's not being signed simply for
xs and ohs and football reasons. You're right, and I'm
not saying you shouldn't tell me that because you're not
saying that, you're saying people are not signing him for
other reasons. What I bristle at is when people tell
me the only reason he's not signed is because he
can't play. Have you seen some of the guys that
have been signed to No, no question. I also think

(01:16:01):
there's we gotta be reasonable and no one. We don't
know if anybody has offered him a contract, But do
you offer Colin Kaepernick a backup you know, a backup salary?
Does he want that? Because the one team he went
visited was Seattle and they said we think he's a starter,
which kind of translated to to me as he wanted
to start her money. But I don't know that, and
I'm not going to speculate on that. Um it's it's
a fascinating issue. It's a it's a fascinating issue. Amy

(01:16:24):
Trash again, another great conversation. I don't know if it
raised it rose to the level of intellectual challenge that
you desire, but I I certainly enjoyed. Big Big Three
is tomorrow at four thirty eastern three one thirty Pacific
on Big Fox, and if you would like to join
us at the game, we'd love to have you as
our guest. I have my tickets already, actually have I'm good,
I'm ready, I'm fired up and going. I have four

(01:16:45):
I got. I'm gonna be out front selling, selling. I'll
act like I'm under thirteen, so I get in free. Yesterday,
I couldn't believe that Lashawn McCoy had finally become the
voice of reason. Shannon Sharp had some harsh words for McCoy. Well, obviously,
talk more, cap Nick. Next it is the Doug Gottlieb

(01:17:07):
Show here on Fox Sports Radio, live from our studios
in Los Angeles. Of course, Dougs in Las Vegas. Him
and Amy Trask, the CEO of the Big Three and
former Raiders, exactly having such a great conversation. Maybe they're
off talking. Actually our connection got t k O. But
we'll connect with them in just a little bit. As
we do normally at this time of the show, we

(01:17:28):
always like to play a little game called what does
the Fox say? Do say? And because we're playing the
game on Doug Show, why not bring in Doug Gottlieb
himself live from Las Vegas. Since city always always a
treat getting electricity appreciate it. Dan earlier today on undisputed.

(01:17:51):
Shannon Sharpe had this to say about Lashawn McCoy's commentary
about Colin Kaepernick. I'm disappointed by on comments. He played
on a team with a guy named Michael Vick. He
spent nineteen of twenty three months in Leavenworth. Not one
time did I hear Lashawn McCoy mentioned distractions. Michael Vick

(01:18:13):
was a convicted felon. Upon his relief, he played with
a guy named Riley Cooper who uttered the atomic bomb
of racial slurs at a concert. Lashawn McCoy's comments were,
I can't respect the guy like that, but he never
mentioned distraction. Um Shannon started making a bunch of non

(01:18:37):
sequitors there, because if you listen to what the entirety
of Shady McCoy's comments, he said, Mike Vickers just better
so much, you know, ten times the player of Colin Kaepernick,
and so he was worth the distraction. We got breaking
news on baseball to get to Let's do it Now
with Dan Body, breaking news from Fox Sports Doug yesterday.

(01:19:03):
At this time, the Tigers and Yankees were fighting in
Detroit's now, we found out the penalties that they will
receive for those actions. Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers just
banned seven games by Major League Baseball for starting that
fight with Yankees catcher Austin Roman, who got two games.
Gary Sanchez and the Yankees had a sucker punch, and
yesterday's melee's four games for Gary Sanchez. Tiger skipper brat

(01:19:26):
Osmuss was banned a game. Alex Wilson also suspended four.
But the big news Miguel Cabrera suspended seven games for
his role in the first bench clearing brawl yesterday in Detroit.
Doug that's that's that's uh. It's interesting that Gary Sanchez,
who has just been red hot with the bat and
he was hit originally is uh, he got suspended the

(01:19:49):
second most games, and it's because he came in and
through one what's seen as a sucker punch. I think
calling it a sucker punch is a little too strong.
But Baseball wasting no time, wasting no time saying this
is not appropriate. I thought. If you if you follow
my Twitter page, you can hear Joe Girardi. He was

(01:20:10):
very smartly critical of of the umpires and that the
first time when Sanchez was hit. After Sanchez hit three
home runs and three nights. There was no warning given
and then when his picture when Dylan Batance's uh hit Cabrera,
he was thrown out. So I think that the umpires

(01:20:34):
should carry some form of the burden and Miguel Cabrera
was punished accurately. Um, all right, what does this fight
do for mm A and how do you couple it
with the John Jones suspension. We'll find out next the
Doug Gotlip Show. What up? It's the Dug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio, coming live to you from sunny in

(01:20:55):
Las Vegas, Nevada, site of Mayweather McGregor. It could be
a fight for the ages or not or not? Um,
do you want Big Three tickets? Right? I was just
asking like do you want my Big Three tickets? Is?

(01:21:16):
Do you need tickets to the Big Three? Uh? You know,
unfortunately I cannot attend. I have to meet my best
friend's child tomorrow. Meet your best friends. Chip. Are you
the godfather? I don't know if i'm officially, but I
was told I was. It's one of those things where
he told me I was the godfather. Right after he
found out he was having a kid. He's like, Hey,

(01:21:37):
I'm having a kid, I want you to be the godfather.
I was like, awesome, And now the kid has been
born and it's never really been talked about since then.
How long has it? How long has this child been alive?
Like three weeks? Okay, I don't know. Listen, I don't
know if what he wants to do wants to gold

(01:21:58):
meet this kid. Thanks, he's just a little kid. He's
only three weeks old. Or to make sure that you
feel good about the energy the kid has, that he's
gonna be one of us. It's gonna be part of
the family. Godfather thing of work itself out. Okay, okay,

(01:22:23):
but I I would tell you this that like um,
like you're not married, uh so, and it's not like so,
I don't know if I don't know if he hasn't
named you the godfather yet officially because they hadn't gotten
to it, because hey, look, push comes to chef. They
can't name some of my godfather of the you know,

(01:22:44):
to take care of the baby if something God forbid
were to happen to them, unless you're it's the type
of even married with wife and solid jobs and you know,
feel comfortable. Um, but if he is in fact your
best friend, and he said you were gonna be the godfather.
He needs somebody else to godfather because he changed ages. Mind.
I gotta tell you, I'm not sure you're his best friend.

(01:23:04):
Look when you talk about job stability, I certainly don't
have that on this show because we could be off
the air by next week. We were almost off the
air um fifteen minutes ago because the power issues. We
are here for the Mayway of the McGregor fight, and
I I just feel like if it looks like if
it smells like it, it is. I. I think boxing

(01:23:25):
fans are smart. I just do. And what's killing the
buzz in this fight or lack thereof his boxing fans going?
I don't see it because look, UFC fans are fired
up because McGregor is one of their guys and McGregor
will fight anybody anywhere, even if it's not his discipline,
and it's it. This is a no lose for us.

(01:23:45):
We got a guy taking a shot first time in
the ring, going after you know, the best pound for
pound fighter. But they don't buy the high end seats
the boxing fans do, and they're not selling the high
end seats and grant they've asked for the Moon, the
stars of the Sun. I think boxing fans are telling
you they think this is just another Mayweather con that

(01:24:07):
that's really what it is. Sean A. Shaddy joins us
on the Dug Out Lip Show. He's a senior editor
for mm A Fighting dot Com. Sean, when when this
fight was announced, what was your immediate reaction? Uh, stunned.
I was just frankly very stunned. I mean, this is
something that the national media has kind of abandoned around
for a several years, and throughout most of the early

(01:24:29):
part of that us in the little m M A niche,
we're always kind of laughing and joking like, ha ha,
look at these people who don't really know what they're
talking about. Look talking about this thing that will never
happen to and the fact that it actually did is
still surreal to me. I mean, we've been covering this
all month, and every time we published a Mayweather McGregor article,
no matter whether it's the first or the hundredth, it's

(01:24:50):
just bizarre and surreal to me that this actually came
to fruition is about to happen tomorrow. Okay, let's just
take me into the M M A world how is
Connor McGregor in the actagon regarded. I mean in the arctagon,
he's I mean, I'm not gonna wrangle through his his achievements,
but I mean he is the first UFC two division

(01:25:12):
simultaneous champion. I mean his rise over the past four
years has basically is relatively unprecedented. I mean he's become
he's gone from going to being a welfare in Ireland
to to the biggest star that we've ever seen, uh
which you know I must qualify with. Our sport is
still very new. It's only a few decades decades old,

(01:25:34):
but still in the intasy. So when we when we
annoint people, you know, the best ever, the biggest star,
that type of things over a very small time period,
whereas Boston is over you know, hundreds of years. But
color McGregor is the biggest start that we've ever seen.
And he and the precision, time and speed power that
he brings to the featherweight division and now the lightweight
division has really changed the game in a lot of

(01:25:55):
different ways. I mean, he's he's he is brought things
to fruition that all of us laughed at along the way,
whether it was knocking out Josie Aldo in the first exchange,
which he always said he was going to do, and
then he actually did. This guy who had never lost
in ten years and was the greatest featherweight we had
ever seen, got slept in thirteen seconds by Connor McGregor.

(01:26:15):
And then coming in and doing the Nate Dash series,
which was just incredible to watch, and then going to
the Madison Square Garden and becoming that two division champion,
just dismantling Eddie Alvarez, who who When you you build
a mount rushmore lightweight, I mean, Eddie Alvarez was probably
gonna be on that and I don't know if you
will now, which is very unfortunate. But Connor is very
highly regarded in our world that to say the least,

(01:26:37):
and very highly regarded as a striker, very highly regarded
in terms of his toughness. You mentioned Diaz and how
great those fights were. Uh, it was, I mean that
that was it was like blood sport with those I
mean they were, you know, they were true incredible battles.
That is that a fair perception to have? Oh? Absolutely,
I mean I was. I was at the second fight
in both those fights were just absolutely gripping. The second

(01:27:00):
fight was one of the best fights that I've ever
seen in person alive, and I've seen a lot of fights.
Uh yeah, those I think those series in general, uh
showed showed a new kind of wrinkled to Connor and
one that kin that makes this interesting to me, especially
the first fight when Connor lost, when when he comes
in he's at the top of the world and then
he gets choked out by night Das in the second round,

(01:27:20):
and no one saw this coming. It was the biggest,
most stunning thing in the world at that time. And
the way he handled law defeat I think surprised a
lot of people. I don't know if you guys were
paying attention at the time, but Connor handled in a very,
very very classy way. He handled defeat better than almost
anybody any athlete I've ever seen um in terms of

(01:27:41):
accepting it, speaking about it, and then moving forward more
moving forward with it, which throws an interesting wrinkle to
me into this fight. We were talking to Chris you
Bank the boxer yesterday, and he said, you know, the
way a warrior handled defeat kind of shows you their
true character. And the fact that Connor was able to
handle his feat so well shows me that in something

(01:28:01):
like this where he no one's given him a chance.
You know, everyone thinks he's gonna lose, is gonna get embarrassed.
He he is so utterly confident that that's not the
reality that I think if if that works to happen,
he would be able to handle it just fine. So
he's gonna the stakes for him are not nearly as
high as it as it seems to be for for
Floyd Mayweather. In the boxing side, whereas a lot you

(01:28:22):
talk to a lot of boxing writers and boxers themselves,
there's almost this trepidation of a lot of people disliking
this fight just because what could happen if the worst
case scenario happened for them and Connor comes in and
does what he promises that he's gonna do. How it
would look for boxing and what it would do to
one of their greats. What do you think he really
is gonna do? I mean, because like, look, he's obviously
going to be awkward. The I mean everything about how

(01:28:45):
you have to fight in the octagon. Blocking guys are
trying to shoot for your legs, blocking kicks, blocking punches.
You hold your hands differently, you don't snap your punches.
It's just incredibly different. And you're going against a refined
boxer in UH, in a boxing match. What do you
think Connor's approach is really going to be? You know

(01:29:05):
that that's a that's a great question, and that's the
money question really because it is it's two entirely different sports.
The nuances of them are are so different. It's basically
if you took Randy Johnson and you know, said go
go play quarterbacks for the New England Patriots. They throw
a ball, but it's not the same thing. Um that
and that. That is one of the most interesting things
about this fight to me though, is if if you

(01:29:26):
talk to Connor Connor or his team throughout all of this,
they have said the entire time they're not going in
there to box Floyd Mayweather because that would be a
losing cause. They didn't even bring a boxing coach into
their camp. Throughout the two months that they've had to
prepare for this. They've prepared with the same m M
A team that he's had throughout his UF Steve Run,
the same coaches. UH. They brought it a couple of

(01:29:46):
sparring partners, but that was about it, and they're going
in there with the idea that they're gonna because they're
not bogged down by what they see as sort of
the the standards and the norms that get drilled into
boxers young, the fundamentals, they're coming in there very unorthodox,
very like almost I mean not even almost. They've said
this is more of a martial artist type of thing,

(01:30:08):
trying to fight the boxer in his own realm. So
how that's gonna play out it is the most fascinating
part to me. I mean, what these first few rounds
are gonna look like. Because I'm not preyly to the
game plan, but I've talked to people who have heard
the game plan, and every time it's kind of this
reaction like, oh huh, that that actually might work type
of things. So I don't know what that whether that
involves a lot more patients, or whether that's you know,

(01:30:32):
current has a lot of tricks that he could use
inside the clinch, because that the clinch is something that
kind of mirrors boxing and they both both involve. Uh So,
I mean, there there's a lot of different unorthodox tactically
and he can use. But I think he has this window,
a very small window at the very beginning of the fight,
whether it's first round, second round, there round, these early
rounds to do something major. If he's gonna do it,

(01:30:53):
it's gonna do it there before before Floyd can kind
of adjust it and uh, you know, adapt to what
he's doing, because Floyd is, you know, one of the
smartest boxers of our era. Um Shana shot he joining
us from m m A Fighting dot Com. John Jones
was suspended a couple of days ago test positive for
steroids or p d s in the h after the

(01:31:14):
knockout of Daniel Cormier tap out of Daniel Cormier UFC
two fourteen. Let's let's start with Jones. Is this is
this the last week hear? You know, he had already
had the cocaine and then this was his comeback and
and he was very bitter, bitter in the pre fight
discussions with Cormier. But then after he won, he was
classy and said, I want to represent myself the way

(01:31:35):
that Cormier has outside the octagon. But when when when
UFC gets behind them and gives them a belt, gives
him a belt, and then all of a sudden this
happens if the positive test sticks. Has he done man,
I just it's just unbelievable what's happened to that guy
at this point. I mean, he very likely could be,

(01:31:57):
which is very very sad to say, Uh, you know,
this is his second There's there's still due process involved,
so I don't wanna throw too much on him without
him getting his due process. That this would be if
if if everything plays out like it looks like it's
may play out, this would be his second, uh failed
drug test because he failed one, you know, last year
before UFC two Hunter, when he's gonna fight Daniel, then

(01:32:20):
that would make him a multiple, multiple time offender, and
under the USADA protocol that the UFC uses, that would
the maximum punishment he could get in the punishment that
would be most likely for him would be a four
year suspension. Four years is a long long time in
any sporting endeavor. And John Jones is a guy who's
thirty years old. He's in his prime right now. He's
already lost several years of his career. If he were

(01:32:42):
to lose another four years and then come back at
thirty four, I mean, he would certainly have time still
to do to fight and you know kind of do
what Hiver. He could to save his legacy, but we
would really do We really would be missing out on
the prime years if a person that, even after the
Daniel Korea, if people were ready to once again annoint

(01:33:02):
him as the greatest of all time that's ever done
it in m m A, I mean he he We
have never had any fighter like John Jones in this
sport and the fact that he has continually shot himself
in the foot like this, it's it's frankly tragic. So
so I I bring that up because look, I think
UFC fans understand the legitimacy of their sport. They love it,
they're passionate about it. And how hard this fight really

(01:33:24):
is from McGregor in such short period of time fighting
one of the one of the greats in UH in
a different discipline. But to the mainstream fan of the
fan that hasn't watched Connor a bunch and may just
happen upon and I'm gonna sit down and watch this fight.
If if he gets undressed, if if because he doesn't

(01:33:45):
have UH, if he doesn't have his hands up and
he steps into punches from Floyd Mayweather and just gets
tattered by jab after jab, couldn't this be a really
bad week for UFC, uh, you know, which was bought
for four billion dollars. I know it will still expand overseas.
I know that financially, it's still in really good shape.
But when you have John Jones suspended and then Con

(01:34:07):
McGregor if he gets embarrassed and doesn't look athletically at
the level of a fourty year old Mayweather, it feels
like a really bad week for the sport, you know,
I think I think it could be. It definitely has
the potential could be. Overall, I think boxing has a
lot more to lose this weekend than m A does.
Just because Hunter even goes in there and half deep.
I think that's a win for a lot of people. Uh,

(01:34:28):
the idea that he could eat, that he could do
that on short notice against you know, one of the
great even put up a fight. But if yeah, if
he goes in there, it just gets undressed and it
looks bad. And you know, it's only a few days
since the John Jones news broke and UFC already. I
mean m m A last year it was probably the
best year m m A has ever had. Two and
two has A fifteen was probably the best year before that.

(01:34:49):
So then we were coming off of two back to
back years that were probably the best financial years for
the sports just in terms of big fights and big events.
This year not so much. This year has probably been
one of our worst years. It's maybe two OUs of
thirteen or fourteen, just because to be gone, we don't
have Ronda Brownsy anymore. John has been dealing with the
John Jones stuff. I mean, that guy's a different thing entirely.

(01:35:11):
We haven't had very many rock Lesner thing happened, Yeah,
and we just haven't had very many big, big moments
for big events or big fights, and we've had a
lot of bad things happened this year. So if this
week goes poorly as well, uh, it would just it
would be a continuation of two seventeen for mm A,
but it would certainly be It wouldn't be any death
blow by any meat. I mean, this is not is

(01:35:32):
not an m m A contest, but it wouldn't if
he goes in there and gets embarrassed. It's definitely not
a good week for Sean al Shaddy from mm A
Fighting dot Com. Sean, thanks so much for joining us.
Absolutely was the pleasure. I thank you. Jim Jackson joins
the show. Next, I'll get his thoughts on Lebron James
on Kevin Durant's comments about Kyrie leaving Cleveland, and does

(01:35:52):
Lebron like Jim Jackson, end up going from Ohio to
l A. That's next, but first, on Saturday, Tomorrow, August,
the fight World's two biggest titans are gonna class. The undefeated,
the legendary, the best pound for pound box on the planet,
The king of the ring Floyd Money Mayweather collides with
the UFC's lightweight champion, the best striker in the business,
the king of the octagon, the notorious Connor McGregor. What

(01:36:15):
happens when the greatest boxer of our generation steps into
the ring with one of the world's most dangerous men
and about all of the biggest names in the business.
It's boxing's best meets the master of mixed martial arts
in an unprecedented matchup. When perfection meets power, something has
to give as these two face off and one of
the most anticipated fights in history. Will Floyd Mayweather Jr.
At fort nine oh with knockouts, remain undefeated or can

(01:36:38):
the mm A superstar Connor McGregor silences critics with just
one punch, Orthodox versus South Pop, perfection versus power, confidence
versus experience. Who will reign supreme? Mayweather and McGregor face

from Las Vegas, sight of not just Mayweather McGregor, but
also the first ever Big Three championship and lead color commentator,

(01:37:24):
of course, from a NBA star, from a college star,
from a high school star, uh two time Mr Basketball
in the state of Ohio. The Mr Big Three himself,
Jim Jackson joins this here on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
This is your This is this is your your kind
of town, right like, well, you know when a car bars,
golf course is a plenty, but it's a little you

(01:37:45):
can't do. Midday You're not a midday golf heat. You know,
sometimes I would do it to go play, but generally
you gotta get up and play a seven, yes, in
order to beat the heat. And I figure you gotta
get in at seven if you're jim. Yeah. So that's
why I didn't bring my clubs this time, because I
was gonna be here in a short time. I knew
it was gonna be a lot of long nights, so
I wasn't gonna get up or gonna go from wherever

(01:38:08):
I was at to the golf course at seven o'clock
in the morning. The Big Three Championship game heirs tomorrow
at four or three Eastern time on Fox Broadcast down
where that's Big Fox, right where you watch the NFL
on Sunday, where you watch Nascar. Uh, that's where you
watch the Big Three. Gus Johnson, Jimmy Jackson, along with
Michael Rappaport and Joey Taylor will be on the sidelines.
Third place game, by the way on Fox Sports Facebook page,

(01:38:31):
Twitter and YouTube platform started three o'clock Eastern time. Um,
and of course the Big Three is gonna be back
on FS one next year. Two thousand eighteen, when you
took the gig. Did you think like, oh man, I
don't know here. I didn't have a clue as to
how do you know this? The response was going to

(01:38:51):
be from the public. I knew the guys once I
went to one of our um mock games, that the
guys would take it's serious once, you know what I mean,
because of competitive nature is gonna come out and it
would take time for them to kind of figure out
how to play three on three competitive, Right, most guys
are competition Jung exactly. But the response that we've gotten,

(01:39:12):
I mean Tulsa, Oklahoma, we get ten thousand people. You know,
the media in regards to the viewership on a Monday
has been phenomenal. Again, the product is driven by you know,
the stars, but also the quality of play, and it's
only going to get better in regards to the high

(01:39:32):
quality of players playing. So pleasantly surprised, But I thought
ice Cube Jeff and Roger Mason did an excellent job
of kind of laying out the game plan for what
this could ultimately ultimately see. I think this is like
you know when you they tell you never to buy
the first year of a new cotton new car, new
model of a car, right, let him kind of work
out the kinks. You guys have kind of worked out
the kinks. It makes me super excited for next year.

(01:39:53):
Will Paul Pierce played well, KG play with some of
those level Mr Oldham talked about he wants Suita Chohan,
but we've we've heard from here. Here's the thing, like us,
it's interesting to see guys come to the game, professionals
that are playing now are just retired, and then when
they see it, oh, this is real. You can see

(01:40:15):
it in their face they oh, I can see myself
playing in this right, And it also cuts out the
part of the basketball which they could they knew they
couldn't do anymore right, like you can't. I didn't play
obviously in the NBA. And what I've noticed when you
play against guys that have played a good long time
in the league, they just it's just too many games.
Just you got no legs when you're done, right, you
just done. Especially guys that played for Riley, you know that.

(01:40:39):
You know. The beautiful thing about this is, though, is
you The beauty about playing in the team sport is
the camaraderie over the court, the things you do in
the locker room, on the way to the game or
at night when you go out to eat. You can't
duplicate that. Once you leave the game, you missed the competition,
but you missed that. So what I'm oldest is when

(01:41:01):
we're on the road, the guys fall back into their
old routine subconsciously. Okay, we're gonna drop our bag, we're
gonna meet down in the lobby, we're gonna go out
to eat, we go go hang. It's funny how you
get back in that routine without even thinking about it,
and the guys have done. I just I was in Lexington.
I was just sitting back watching it and it was

(01:41:21):
the dynamic of it was so refreshing because that's a
piece that we don't talk about a lot as athletes,
that we truly miss and to watch the guys do
it again was a lot of fun funny because I
was psychocious. Team went to Israel, right, and all of
a sudden, now I was the head coach, and I'm like,
who every head coach I've ever played for sat at
the front seat of the bus and I sat up

(01:41:42):
there and I was like, this is the loneliest, boringest
place on earth, right, Like this is terrible On the
other hand, when we got somewhere, I was the first
person out the bus and I have to walk kind
of right in. But now, like you gotta make eye
contact with everybody, and you know, it's very different bus dynamic.
Is you can do what pat Roddy does. Though pat
riley Wood, you get on the bus, he wouldn't give
you no eye contact sometimes at all. I mean we

(01:42:05):
just left practice talk to us. He was such that
he didn't want you to figure him out. So sometimes
a practice he may be conversational talk to us. Sometimes
he wouldn't. See What I would do is is one
I had. I had this a couple of speakers. You
know you can hook up bluetooth, so I'd have my
own and I'd give one the other guys they could,
So made the bus kind of alive a little bit

(01:42:26):
because we were touring all around the country, tour into
practice whenever. But I would also I would text guys
periodically after practice on the bus instead of having to
having one on one because like you can have conversations
with kids, they can't pay attention to remember that long
you sent him a text its all day and wake
him up with it with a text of what Jim
Jackson joining us on on the Doug Outlip Show. All Right,

(01:42:47):
I don't know did you see these these I don't
even been. I know you had a little bit of
the night last night, and I know you've been You've
been turning around and doing doing radio and TV hits.
Did you hear what Kevin Durant said about Kyrie? What
he said, Um, he did what he's supposed to do
in Cleveland. It's onto the next chapter. I can really
appreciate what he did. He stood up himself. He showed

(01:43:08):
a lot of courage, man, because it's hard to take
that type of criticism. He also said, take a listen
to this. This was on the Bill Simmons podcast, and
take a listen to what he said about why this
might have been the time to get out when you
were around Lebron James, just like so much that comes
with that. It's like so much outside like distractions and
conversations and just noise that it just comes around just

(01:43:30):
from being around Lebron James and Kyrie at the point, like,
all right, we lost the championship. This whole season is
gonna be about if Lebron is gonna leave or not.
I'm ready for a new child. Like, all that stuff
kind of met at the pinnacle of you know why
he wanted to leave, and it just felt like he
just wanted a situation where he could just be free
from all of that and just play. Is that Is

(01:43:50):
that a legitimate like? Is that a legitimate way to
look at Carrie wanting out? Now it sounds like it's
almost first person too. You know, I'm seriously on the
way Kevin Durant is talking about it. It's it sounds
more person not like a speculation. Now I'm not saying
that Kyrie said it or not, but it sounds like it.
But here's the thing that when you play with Michael

(01:44:11):
Jordan's you had stuff you had to deal with with him. Well,
what I'm saying dedicated his entire shallow, but it's but
it's all relative in regards to the impact of playing
with that kind of transformative person. Has Scotty had to
deal with that each and every time. Not the mentality

(01:44:32):
at the time was different Kyrie. If you think about it,
it was his team. Then Ron comes back and then
it's kind of you placed on the back burner. But
at the same point, he shot more than he did,
you were there in clutch situations. But he's still young
at five years old. He feels probably that he wants

(01:44:53):
to have his ownership of his own Does he get
that in Boston? It's a question. Um, it is a
lot of stuff that comes with lebron So what I
think there's also you do but you have you got
a son. I mean like this is also what kids
kind of do when they're when they when they grow up, right,
they want to kind of do their own thing. They
want to be their own man, right, but you can't.

(01:45:15):
Here's the more thing you can't fallow them. Is it selfish?
I don't know if it's really if you call it selfish,
because this is what I say. This thing is built
up over two to three years. It didn't just happen overnight.
So it's been some things going on. And I would
always say this, Doug, we can speculate all we want,

(01:45:36):
but until Kyrie comes out and gives us what is
really going on, because he's gonna provide us with some
more inside that we don't even know about. He's gonna
go back to some things that's probably happened that has
prompted him to get to this point, we're only looking
at it in the snapshot saying, yeah, it doesn't look good.
Are you selfish? Why when you want to play for Lebron.
He's sitting there probably saying, look, bro, it's two, three,

(01:45:58):
four or five six things. The reasons why his agent
is basically an Asian for half the team, right, I mean,
the owner and the best player are are constantly at odds,
and and Lebron at times will not take responsibility for
things when they happen or don't happen. So and so
it's a bunch of things. It's not just like no,
and and even the term selfish, Like I had this

(01:46:21):
conversation with a really good friend of mine yesterday. It's like, yeah,
it's selfish, but like if something makes you really happy,
it's so it's sometimes okay to be selfish. Now you
have to take there there can be a downside to
being selfish, right then you can lose things. You could
lose the ability to compete for a championship, possibly had
he not been traded to an organization which appears to

(01:46:41):
be poisoned to maybe taking out of the step. Taking
this step to a championship is a is a bigg
step it's a bigger step. There's there's more than just
they're one step away. Um. But I think it. I
think that sometimes we we say selfish and we're automatically
brought to it being a negative. Sometimes being selfish is
I'm okay with it because when I'm selfish about something
I like or I love, or it's gonna bring me

(01:47:03):
great joy, I understand it. I can relate to it.
But but why is selfish when we we'll be talking
about sports, is looked at as being negative. But in
everyday life, for a person let's say that works at
a law firm, Okay, they feel that they want to
be a partner, they want to move on and continue
to grow with you, and they say, for selfish reasons,

(01:47:24):
I want to go. It's it's okay because your career wise,
even though you're at this established law firm, this other
place may provide a different opportunity and challenge for you. Right,
here's what I want to know. I gotta I gotta
go to trending real quick. But I want you to
tell me you gotta go. Do you have to go

Dougling Shell Fox Sports Trade. Jim Jackson continues to join me.
He's gonna go over to the way In. Then he's
gonna call the Big Three Championship game on Fox tomorrow
at four thirty eastern, one three Pacific. Then he's gonna

(01:48:08):
go to the fight. I'm sure he's gonna be sitting
really really close because he's Jim Jackson. And then he's
gonna be flying. He's gonna be flying home and he
probably has a foursome sometime early Sunday mor Monday. I'm
staying about on little event on Sunday to wrap up
the Big Three. So I gotta make sure I got
du I gotta make sure he has handled correctly. How
many of the guys in the Big Three they get
paid per event? How many guys will leave Vegas with

(01:48:30):
the money that they make from the event. A lot
of them will, A lot of them not big time
gamblers like that, like like that. They like to hang
a little bit now some like the roll, dice and play.
It's gonna be a good whoever wins, that's gonna be
an interesting part. Who stays really stays over that Sunday
and chills and hangs out, that's gonna be the question. Yeah,

(01:48:50):
that's that's That's what I was kind of getting out. Okay, um,
Kyrie back to back to Kyrie Irvin. The Celtics, how
are they closer? Are they further? What? Where are they
now as opposed to where they were before the summer
Because they made up people are forgetting. They made a
bunch of moves like Bradley out, Marcus Morrison, they got
eleven new guys. What do you think of what they

(01:49:11):
have now? Well, it's it's it's always tough, Doug when
you those interchange those parts that move to kind of
get that that coordination together. But I think the way
Brad Stevens is set up, guys have specific roles that
can come in and kind of coordinate together. You've got
guys on that team. They play unselfish, which helps. I
think when you get new guys in, they've gotten better. Yes,

(01:49:33):
are they gonna be team? Well, they better talent, they
got they got better. I think individual parts to try
to figure out. Now, one how Jalen Brown and also
Jayson Tatum, how they mature. Keep in mind, losing Jay
Crowder is tough because of a defensive perspective. But now
you allow those minutes to go to young young players

(01:49:54):
that need those minutes. So you lose the leadership and
veteran leadership and defense on one side, but you're gaining
valuable experience between these two. How Kyrie interacts within that
because he'd love to handle the ball kind of like Isaiah.
How does that work? I think they've gotten closer. It
makes it more intriguing, gives us better storylines to talk about.

(01:50:15):
At the beginning of the season, I still think Cleveland
with Lebron is still the team they have to beat.
I agree, I agree. Let's let's assume Dwyane Wade gets
bought out, Dwyane Wade goes to the Calves. Let's just
make it a suption. Fair unfair? Making a sumption? Is
that team better? Now? You got Crowder, who can place,
who can come out the bench and guarden multiple guys
to make a shot as well. Plus he's just younger.

(01:50:35):
They've always brought the old guys off the bench, right, Um,
is that team good enough to beat the Warriors? I'mna
still say no. I like Dwyane Wade, but what but
what you're missing is that guy on the wing that
now that gives you an opportunity to really guard the
rent and make him work. Now, the league is all

(01:50:59):
about position size and left. You're giving up on that
when you get Isaiah. We still don't know the health
of Isaiah, and I'm sure they wouldn't have made the
trade if they didn't feel comfortable that he would be healthy.
But he hasn't been on the court yet, and you
got thirty days before training camp starts, so a lot
depends on that as well. But this Cleveland team, and
we were talking about this on Speak for Yourself. Did

(01:51:22):
the moves make them get them closer to Golden State?
I said no? At this point, they still the makeup
of the Tamil Killer Derrick Roath. Don't get them closer
to beating gold State with Dwayne Way, Yeah, a little
bit more exactly. So, I mean the whole thing is
how can we beat Golden State? That's it. That the

(01:51:43):
bottom you go build your team is how can we
beat them? You would get through the East probably now
with Boston maybe six six games. But how can you
be Golden State? It's a question, bro, I don't you
don't I don't. I don't think there is a there
is a Paul George with Paul George. If Paul was
there with Kyrie boy, that not Now you say, you
know what on the wing in perspective, they got a

(01:52:06):
guy that has length and can score. I I said
this last Friday, and Royce Young wrote about it. Russell
Westbrook hasn't signed his contract extension five years two oh seven,
biggest contract extension the history of the sport. Um he
has two October sixte to sign it. Now if he doesn't,
it doesn't mean he can't resign. He can resign for
two or three years. But that's a bad If you've

(01:52:27):
got the biggest contract in the history of the sports
sitting on your desk and you don't sign it, and
you don't sign it, doesn't that tell you what you
need to know? Yeah? And you know? And what more
can they prove to him? And also to with him
saying before that he wanted to stay, so you figured
that signing the deal would be a no brainer. What
are you waiting on. I don't know. I just know

(01:52:49):
for me, if I really wanted to stay at the place,
this is where my home was at, then I could
sign it. Now. Is there something lingering out there as
far as other moves, like with Paul George and he
wants to wait and see. I don't know, but it does.
You hate to go into the season to Doug, you
with that lingering over every time you go out and play.
It's absolutely conva linking over every time they go out

(01:53:10):
and play, all right. Jim Jackson, Gus Johnson, Michael Rappart,
Joey Taylor tomorrow part of the Call uh four Thirtiestern
Time one thirty Pacific. It's the Big threes inaugural season
coming to a close with their championship game. Check it
out on Big Fox. Members on Big Fox tomorrow. J
J thinks so much. You got a whole wait your
prediction on the fight, Payne, Uh, I don't think it'll

(01:53:33):
be a knockout. I think it. I think it'll be
a Floyd Mayweather one oh one. It'll just be a
lesson in great defense. Twelve rounds. Yeah no, now, but
is that good for boxing? Now? I think the whole
thing is bad for boxing. Yeah, well unless he takes
it ko early on, because Conna mcgreggor's best chance of
the first three to five rounds to do something. Yes,

(01:53:54):
but again, this is like I've watched enough Floyd fights.
I didn't watch Floyd in what I would do me
his prime when he was when he was fighting championship fights.
I've seen all of these last four or five fights
and they've all kind of all fit mostly the same narrative.
Get ahead early and then make a guy play catch up,
and you just can't. You can't catch him, you can't

(01:54:14):
hit him. He's too and he's too elusive, he's too smart,
and his his fight selection has been amazing in terms
of who he fights and when he When he fought
Patty out three years four years after after he should
have you know, before Canelo's rise. He's he's a genius
in that way. I just he's knock one guy out.
Since how is he gonna knock out Connor McGregor. I

(01:54:35):
don't because McGregor is gonna McGregor will take a beating,
but he's gonna get up. I don't. I don't see
a knockout. What do you think, Hey, I'll punch him.
My thing is kem Connor maintain what I would think
would be his discipline to fight and not get that.
That's why I said the first three to father, you

(01:54:56):
can bet on whether or not it will be a
d Q. Well yeah, but now it's in a contract
I've heard about, you know, if he kicks or something
like that. What what I happened in regards to his money.
But the discipline part of it for me is what
I think is important with Connor. Can you take a
punch no doubt. Does he have a puncher's chance. Of

(01:55:16):
course he does because he's bigger and stronger. But does
he have to discipline from a boxing perspective to stay
with it when things get frustrated? See, I think it's
it's I was talking about this earlier this week. It's
like game slippage. It's like when you spend the whole
offseason working on picking. I'm moving your jump shot over
to the rights. I'm gonna shoot off my ear this year,
gonna shoot up lay here right, you've always shot it
right in front of your face. And how long how
many games in the season until we aden exact? Like

(01:55:41):
he's got his He's got his gloves up. First couple
rounds he got his gloves up, and then by round
four he's got those things down on the side like
they do in M M A. And all of a
sudden he becomes, uh, you know, one of those speedbags,
and that that thing gets ugly. So what was your
prediction I had Mayweather. I didn't think. I don't think
he knocks him out. I think he t k old
him though maybe about eighth round t K Yeah, just

(01:56:04):
just just because of the point, I don't freyd had
problem with his hands. So in regardless to N Kyle,
power is not there. But I think Connor fatigue wise,
maybe after round five, six, seven, eight, that's when I
think maywhere they can really take advantage of that. Jim Jackson,

(01:56:49):
some stuff to catch you up on things you might
not know. It's a Friday fight weekend. College football launches
uh Stanford taking on Rice in Sydney, Colorado State Oregans date. Hey,
it's something to bet on. It's something not baseball. We'll
get you ready for that first though. Let's get to
the press. The press. What he got for me, Well,

(01:57:14):
dougget was breaking news. We had it about an hour ago.
Detroit Tigers first base m Miguel cabreros Ha spended seven
games for his role in that bench clearing brawl that
took place yesterday against the Yankees. For others got suspensions,
including Gary Sanchez that the Yankees gets four games as
this Tiger's pitcher, Alex Wilson, he also got a four
game band. Austin Romind, who was the one fighting Cabrera,

(01:57:35):
got a two games suspension. Well, the big news is
that the New York Yankees lose Gary Sanches for four games.
Um second year catcher at homeward in eight of his
past ten games, in nine of his past fifteen games.
That is a huge bat to take out of their lineup,
as they still await the return of Matt Holiday to

(01:57:55):
the lineup. So they take on the the Mariners who
are fighting for a what for Wild Cards survival as well?
How do they fare without some of their players and
with delen patance? Is struggle a little bit? Or all
this chaving struggle a little bit? We'll see here over
the weekend of the stadium. To college football notes, we
touched on one earlier, Clemson giving head coach Dabo Sweeney

(01:58:17):
and eight your extension. And how about this from the
l A Times, A report yesterday surface that U c
l A actually ended their football practice early on Wednesday
because head coach Jim Mora felt that there were surveillance issues,
saying quotes an issue came up, But I'm just pleased
with the way everyone at u c l A has responded,
trying to do the best that they can to make
this a secure practice environment for us end quote. Maybe

(01:58:40):
spies from Texas A and M looking in on the
U c l A practice. Well, look, there's no more
paranoid group of people, um than ten football coaches. They
just aren't, I mean, just supreme paranoia into somebody knowing
what exactly they're doing. On the other hand like, all right,
thank some guys up there filming our pract just with

(01:59:00):
a cell phone. What's that for? People have drone drones
and drone cameras. Who has that drone in drone camera?
So I'm I'm fascinated by it? How about this you
tweeted it earlier, Doug. In the world of college basketball,
after forty years, the Great Alaskan Shootout will hold their
final tournament this fallen Anchorage. It was the longest running
regular season tournament in college basketball, but the University of

(01:59:24):
Alaska Anchorage says that funding is you know, it's true rich.
Funding is an issue and it will come to an
end after forty years. Well, U ESPN killed this thing.
ESPN s own tournaments so that they could make more
money on them, and he went over to CBS Sports Network,
and which is just they buried late at night. Nobody wants.

(01:59:46):
I know, I wanted to do the tournament. I I've
done Puerto Rico, Hawaii, not Maui. The Hawaii tournament, I've
done uh Cancoon the last couple of years. I've done
one in uh the Emerald Coast, which is in Destin, Florida,
but I had never done Alaska uh, I could have
done it last year. I wanted to do it. My

(02:00:06):
wife was like, are you kidding me? Alaska and Thanksgiving? No,
And now it's going to be no more. So it's
a bummer. Melvin Levitt winning on a dunk against Duke
by Cincinnati was the most memorable moment in that tournament's history.
I don't know. I think Glenn Rice slipping with Sarah
Palin was the the biggest highlight of the Great Alaska Shootout. Great.

(02:00:27):
That's a great one. Um. By the way, Madden eight
keeen came out today, So yes, yes, no, it did.
I'm telling you it did. It came out today. I
love Madden as much as anybody does. Everybody do we
still go out and buy Madden's Yes, I will, I
will do so, I will do so. You're married now,
I don't. You're gonna catch you up with the new Maddness,

(02:00:48):
the Jets. It's just how I can win buyers in
a mood today? You got anything else for me? Buyer? Um.
By the way, Phil Dawson's strength level on Madden is
twenty okay, because one to ninety nine, he's the lowest
rated strength in the game. Niners kicker at twenty. That's

(02:01:08):
it baging out there and pressed. That was the press
who would have the lowest strength level on our team.
I'm taking Mayweather going the distance because it's Mayweather. It's
gonna be a
