(00:26):
do we have a great show for you. It's such
a good show that even Damn Reno is like, dude,
am I on right now? Like now, we gotta hold
off on you, Damn Rino. Greg Olsen's gonna join us.
Cam Jordan's gonna join us, Tim Brown's gonna join us.
Terry Bradshaw is gonna join us. So uh, Marino Hall
of Fame, UM, greg Olsen probably Hall of Fame, Tim
Brown Hall of Fame, Terry Bradshaw Hall of Fame. Uh.
(00:49):
We gotta get you ready for the game. We'll talk
a little bit about this Lebron James story where Chris
Haynes from ESPN reporting that Golden State could be a
player for Lebron James. Um, all of that. I have
an opinion on it. I have It's a thoughtful, interesting
idea of Golden State. But what it really means. Maybe
we'll get to it with our first guest. Who. Um,
(01:10):
I don't know if he's as star struck as I am. Um,
he grew up in the same area I grew up
in Orange County, southern California. He's Sam Donald out of
USC getting ready for the NFL draft, and four years
ago you're in San Clementi what probably playing high school
hoops right about now? Right, Yeah, I'm just as star
struck as you. By the way, I mean it's pretty neat,
like people are coming up to you like, I love
(01:31):
your game, man, can't wait to see where you go.
Bradshaw is trying to give you advice. Don't take any
of Bradshaw's advice by the way. Um uh so, uh,
what what's this did? Did you watch the Super Bowl
as a kid? Um? And don't you don't have to
lie to me and tell me like, but like you
were all around athlete, like one of the things that
you did not specialize like so many guys specialized. So
when football was over in high school sanc many you
(01:54):
played hoop. But did you still pay attention to the NFL? Uh?
The NFL has been a huge part of life growing up.
Actually never had a team, to be honest with you,
I always grew up, you know, loving USC and the Trojans.
But uh, yeah, I mean the NFL has has played
a huge part in my life. I've always been curious
if I ever got the opportunity to go to the league.
You know, It's always been a dream of mine. That's
(02:16):
that's why my answer to all these questions about where
do you want to go all this stuff, it's like
this is a dream of dream of mine. You know.
It's uh, it would just be special to go anywhere
and to to live out that dream. So um, I'm
just thankful to be here, um with guys like Dan Marino,
Terry Bradshaw to really gotta wait till your dad. But
I'm yeah, it's uh, you know, it's it's pretty crazy
(02:36):
being here, but I'm excited. Okay. So um, last time
we we spoke, you said, Hey, look, I just I
gotta I gotta see how things lay out before I
make my decision. You've made your decision to enter the
NFL draft. What what did you have to actually put that? What? What?
What was the deciding factor? Um? I think just the
fact that you know, I'm I'm projected to be, you know,
(02:57):
a top pick, and that really wouldn't change, uh in
a year. So it's you know, my thinking was, why
not why not be able to go there as fast
as possible, learn as much as possible from um NFL
veterans who have been there and done that. And you know,
I think just with the same mindset of guys, you know,
leaving to go to the NBA after their freshman year
of college. UM, it's just you want to get your
(03:19):
feet wet and you want to you want to learn
as much as possible, as fast as possible. And you know,
I think that that opportunity led me to, you know,
choose to go to the NFL. Alright, so uh, you're going, Um,
how do you have any sense of where you're going?
Obviously Cleveland's got that topic. A bunch of teams need
a quarterback, but there are some other quarterbacks that that
(03:40):
are gonna be a top that draft board. Do you
have any sense of who's most interested in you? Now?
I have no I have no idea, And you know
we were talking about it, uh last night a little bit,
just about how much things can change, even right you know,
during the draft. So I'm just unprepared for anything. Uh.
I know that wherever I go, I'll I'll try my best,
(04:00):
and uh, you know, I think wherever I go it
would be a great fit. See I I One of
the things that I try to describe you as is
it's part of where you're from. Like I think people
think that all parts of southern California, everybody's parents drive
super nice cars, right, live down with like it's Hollywood
lifestyle words like San Colmani is the last stop before
(04:21):
you get to really nothingness, right, Santa No f and
then camp let In, Right, But there's actually like land there.
And whereas I think people are from San Clementi, where
there's other parts of l A, we're more l A
where people moved to and so there's kind of a
different sensibility. So I do think that you would blend
in in other areas as opposed to you know, there's
(04:42):
a Josh Rosen who's Manhattan Beach more of an l
A guy. There's there's other players that might struggle with Uh,
some of the markets that potentially could draft a quarterbacks
that that fair. I mean, like, look, wherever you go,
the weather is not gonna be as nice, and I'm
aware of that. But at the same time, like you said,
sant Clementi is more of a uh Luke Carl caller area,
I guess you could say. And I think that, you know,
(05:03):
having that background of you know, my parents, UM, working
the way they did and showing me a great work
work ethic. Um, I'm gonna be fine wherever I go, uh,
and you know, I think I'll find success. You said
that you want to learn as much as possible, as
quickly as possible, and obviously it's not gonna be your choice.
But if you did have a choice, would you want
to play right away or would you want to sit
(05:24):
and see the speed of the game on the side, Um,
you know, whatever, whatever the best opportunity is for me
to get better, I think, Um, you can get better
both ways. You can get better from learning from uh
from the sideline, and you can get better from you
know in game experience that there's two ways of looking
at Okay, So your first year to see red shirt
right yep, okay, and then you and then what you
sat what was the two games before they threw two
(05:45):
or three games before they threw you in? Uh, It's
just like a year and a half ago. It happen
so fast. Did you feel like you really learned a
lot watching or did you you just learned so much
more playing? Um? I learned a lot watching, but you
just you learned so much more when you play. There's
nothing like the in game experience. Um. But at the
same time, that Red Shirt year was was very clutch
for for me and learning that offense and um, you know,
(06:08):
just watching Cody do his thing, Cody Kessler, um do
his thing out there. Um it was fun to watch
and it was awesome to be able to um watch
him in meetings, you know, take notes, how he was
taking notes and all that kind of stuff. So, UM,
it was awesome to be able to have that year.
But at the same time, there's nothing that beats um
in game experience if you want to learn fast when
you watch. Have you have you watched Tom Brady's documentary. Uh? Yeah,
(06:28):
I've watched the first two episodes. What did you pick up? Uh,
it's it's cool that it's cool to see that he's
a real human. You know, there's you know, when he's
talking to the media, he's you know, he's very uh,
you know, kind of cliche and his answers. You know,
he doesn't want to give too much away, but then
when he gets in his car and when he's around
his family, he's very real. And you know, I appreciate that. Um.
(06:49):
You know, I didn't know that prior. You know, it
was cool to see him react the way he did
to the loss in Kansas City with Giselle, and it
was cool to see you know that that conversation happened. Um.
You know, I think it's it's just an amazing opportunity
for anyone. Um, you know, whether you're a quarterback or not,
to be able to learn about Uh, you know, the
(07:09):
way a great player goes about his everyday routine. Are
you're you're coming to a set here? The good folks
at Red Robin. Uh, they're amazing, They are amazing. All right,
So are you turkey burger? You beef burger? Which which
is your? Give me the Sam Donald so I can
go and I go, I want the Donald. Yeah, what's
the Donald burger? Uh? You know it's I think it
would be the normal, you know, the beef burger, but
at the single double you gotta go double. Um. Hell.
(07:33):
But at the same time, the chicken one's amazing. Um.
But then the the new uh gourmet burger burger bar
they have you can go to any Red Robin pick
out your gourmet burger bar. Um. And it's such an
easy fast way to uh you still haven't told me.
I can I can read the I can read the
copy points on the burger bar. Sam Donald builds his
burger how um, you know, let us onion, tomato, mayo, mayo,
(07:56):
catch up. Yeah, and then you got some pickles on there.
Not not too many, um, but yeah, that's that's the
pickle ratio. That's big like pickles, right. But you can't
underdo the pickles because then you only get pickles in
certain bites. But you can't overdo the pickles because then
it overwhelms the burger. Exactly. It's very important. So the
so the gornery burger bar, you build it yourself. Yeah, yeah,
you got um all the condiments on the side. The
(08:18):
burger comes um, you know, with the bun and the
burger obviously um. And then it comes with so much stuff.
It comes with catch up, barbecue, sauce, mayo, mustard, all that, um,
and then you can just put whatever you want on it.
And you know, it comes with a really good amount
of burgers. I think it's like thirty or so. So, uh,
you know, it's it's a great it's a great opportunity
(08:39):
to just be able to pick that up and be
all set for the big game. Pick it up, take
it to your house, and you don't have to you know,
have to cook and grill and clean it all up
and prep it all up super easy. That my wife
would love that at Red Robin Burgers. Is the social
is the Twitter handle? Um, last thing, and this is
the most important thing. Who you're rolling with the to
the draft? Who's coming with you? I got eight spots?
(09:01):
Eight spots? Who makes the list? You got definitely family, sister, sister, grandma, grandpa. Okay, grandma, grandpa. Yeah, yeah,
you're at You're at five. Now get eight spots. You
got three more spots. Probably take JPU with me, Jordan Palmer,
Gordon Palmer, awesome quarterback, guru, got it great friends as well, Um,
(09:21):
and then maybe a couple of friends. I don't know.
I don't want to pick anyone off. I don't I
don't want to put on Listen, listen, I'm just telling you.
If you're Sam Donald's boy, you're listening to us in
l A on Fox Sports Radio. That'd be pretty nice. Okay,
because he's only got two spots left doesn't mean he
doesn't love you. He's only got two spots. We'll see
it to be, you know, like guys fighting for like
like Big Survivor. They've been killing each other off, like, dude,
(09:42):
you should have seen he was killing when you when dude,
when you guys lost in the Bowl game, he was
killing you on on Twitter. You should have seen it.
Guys are gonna murder each other. Hey man, best of luck.

the best in the draft and in the upcoming season.

I know that she wants me to step it up
on Valentine's Day, but not go over the top with
something that's so ridiculously expensive that it breaks the bank.

Our thanks to you, Sonic. Um. We'll put this out

Radio Row. Like, Uh, it's incredible what they've done, their
(11:55):

very best set here at Radio Row views view Sonic
see the difference, thanks again to them. I can't count
how many of you Sonic monitors. We have this sick
and I don't know what we're dealing with it afterwards.
But if they want to put it in my house,
it's cool. We'll do it. We'll set ther no question
dri Dan Marino is sitting here. I I just the
(12:18):
we got a chance to work together over another place
and get a chance to hang out with him here
is awesome. Thanks to the folks at Neutral Pro. I'll
get to that in a moment, but uh, Dan, my
hamster died at halftime of your Super Bowl against Joe Montana.
I was actually my sister's hamster, but no one knew
until after the game. Because most of us grew up
you either like Montana or you like Marino, and I
(12:40):
like Marino, and then I grew like Montana because he
was just awesome. Um, what do you remember about the
Super Bowl? You know, I'm playing in the SUPERNOL, so
I get this question a lot. I remember that. It's like,
when the game was over, I was like, can we
play this again tomorrow? You know, because it was like
it happens really fast. It happens fast. I was twenty
(13:00):
three years old. I was young, and uh, and I
thought for sure I would be back, Like there's no doubt.
I'm like, there's no doubt I'll be back in the
Super Ball. I was twenty three, was my second year.
And then it just it never happened again. And uh,
but that's yeah. My my initial thing was, hey, you
know what, they kicked our butts? Can we play this
game again tomorrow? Because maybe we'll win tomorrow, you know
(13:21):
what I mean. But but uh, they had a great
football team. A guy here that's with me, we've been
with me as Jim Stucky he played on that, he
was on that team, and uh he's doing stuff with
neutral system too. But he's up here helping promote that.
And I just once again, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, that
grew up. They were really good. They were Jerry Rice there.
(13:44):
Jerry was there yet. I don't think he was there yet. Wait. Wait,
and then the next year was the year and and
again this is back when Monday night football is Monday football.
You guys were the team to beat the Bears on
Monday Night football. That was the next year. That was
that year, right, the next year. And but what you
guys did was so far ahead of everybody else. When
(14:06):
they put you in the shotgun and you spread everything out.
I mean you were the way you were. You born
too early. That's the problem, right, have a lot more
money now, a lot more money, and you told for
five thousand yards every year. Yeah, the we were, we're
doing things then. And I think you gotta give, you know,
credit to coach Shula and uh, you know, the offensive
staff back then because they saw duper Clayton, that more
(14:28):
veteran guy, jimmy Cefalo, Tony Nathan, that group and how
did But how did the conversation take play? Was it
you saying like, look, we we gotta do this, we
gotta spread it out. How does it? Because Don should
have been there a long time, That's not how they
had always played it. Used to run the ball. Yeah,
and then David Woodley was right there with Don Strock,
and he kind of had two different ways of looking
at the offense. You know, if David, if things weren't
(14:49):
going right, they bring Dawn and he had thrown a
lot more and spread things out. But um, I think
you just saw the talent that we had and the
things we were doing in the preseason and my rookie year,
and he figured out that, you know, let's let's break
people out and go after him. The other thing that
you did that nobody does now is you called your
own plays right like later did went later your career.
Weren't you essentially the offensive coordinator? So I wouldn't say
(15:12):
that I wouldn't said I would say that I had
the option to call and change plays probably like Tom
does and all the great quarterbacks of today. Um it
may it's at first I did a little bit of that,
and you know why I did it? It's because coach
Shula made me do it, to make me learn quicker
right in camp and in in the preseason games and
all that I did all called all my own plays.
(15:34):
Which it's kind of genius if you think about it,
to get a young quarterback to learn faster. But then
it then it just gets too many personnel, you know, adjustments,
You gotta make the standard call in your own plays.
You need too much help. Damn Marino joining us on
the Dug Out Live show here on Fox Sports Tradio. Um, like,
look at you know you had you had the injuries
which hurt your legs. Uh, and then you know, I
(15:56):
think you guys never really figured out the run game
or the defense. And there was the blowout lost in Jacksonville,
and so when it was over, I think everybody knew,
like all right, it was over. Um, as a guy
who played late, you know, late in your thirties, to
watch what what Tom Brady is doing yea, and the
way in which he seems to be at the same level.
(16:17):
How how is this happening? Um? That's amazing, actually, I mean, um, uh,
you know I look at Tom and obviously you know
know what quarterbacks go through and for him to be
able to do this at a high level for so
many years and win super Bowls, and I think and
also it's the continuity between him and Belichick. You know,
it's that that that the coach head coach, uh quarterback
(16:39):
relationship and other people come in and out and they're
still gonna be the same. That's that's a big deal. Um.
But he is, Uh, he's an amazing guy. And he
figured it out, like he figured out, you know, health wise,
what you gotta do how you know, over the years.
I mean everybody says it like he studies, studies his
butt off, He does all the things you need to do.
Competitor once a win every week, I mean all that stuff.
(17:00):
So he's, uh, he's tough to beat. Ben Roethlisberger last
year and I need you know, Pittsburg or Pittsburgh guy.
Ben Roethlisberger last year talked about retire. Now he's like, no, no,
I'm coming I'm coming back. I'm coming back. But it
was it made for an interesting season for the Steelers
right where you had Antonio Brown gets paid, Levian wants
to get paid, and Ben's like, I don't know how
I want to do this for uh, if you were
(17:22):
gonna advise Ben on how to how to stabilize that situation,
what would you do. Let's tell him play forever, because
once you're done playing, you can't play anymore and it's over.
Um And I tell you, I mean, Ben might have
just said that. But at the same time, you know
when it's hard, He's a football player, right, I mean,
you're football player, you're a quarterback. You're gonna play as
long as you can. I mean, because you love the competition.
(17:45):
And you know Ben loves the competition. He wants to
win more Super Bowls. So you know, maybe he said
it in a way that they took it the wrong way,
but you know he's gonna want to play as long
as he can. Um um. Eli Manning obviously they they
benched him. He lost his consett it if games played starts,
game started, streak and you know, now you've got a
new regime and they're like, well, we want Eli to
(18:06):
be our guy. Um if if again, if you're advising Eli,
you stuck it out with the Dolphins, and of course
your last game is a playoff game. But the Giants
look like there's a little bit of a rebuild there
is it is it better to say, hey, find a
way to get me to go to Jacksonville so that
I'm with I'm with Coughlin because they got already made
super Bowl team, or do you stay through the rebuild?
(18:27):
So and I think because he's but I don't know,
I mean, I'm you know, it's probably the same. You
would say the same thing. I think because he's won
two Super Bowls there, he's gonna want to really stay
there in New York. You know, I'm sure he loves
playing there, and you know he's got a young family
growing up. But at the same time, you know, there's
only so much time you have as a quarterback, and
if you have a chance to win Super Bowls that
(18:49):
that you should at least research that and see if
it's there and see what the possibilities are. I like
the fact that they actually do want to keep them
and keep them there. Um. I did not agree with
the fact that, you know, not letting him start those
those games that was that was just ridiculous. But you
have you are synonymous with the quickest release maybe in
the history of football for a great quarterback. It just
(19:11):
it didn't take you a lot to get the football.
We just had Sam Donald up here. And the one
flaw to Sam Donald is it takes him a little
it has a little bit of extra motion. How did
you develop that, you know what, Believe it or not.
I think it was just it's a thing from you know,
her mind. And then growing up work in a certain way. Uh,
and there just understanding the time in your head. There's
(19:33):
like always gonna be a clock in your head. But
my dad, my dad always talked about throwing you know,
up and out, no wasted motion. But I mean it
was like crazy how you could put such pace on
the ball and such accuracy on the ball and it
took nothing for you to get rid of it. That's
just it's just your dad and a little god given ability.
I think it's a little bit of both of that.
And then all of a sudden, as as you play
and time goes on, you know, you understand like Tom, Tom,
(19:55):
for example, has he's great at this. He knows when
he has to get rid of the ball and when
he gets rid of quick because he has that clock
and said, he knows what the patterns are, he knows
the coborde, he knows what receiver he's throwing too. And
so sometimes he'll hold it longer. Sometimes he's getting it
out of there and um, and I think it's Yeah,
it was just the things I did as a kid,
as far as you know the techniques of throwing a football,
(20:17):
and as time goes on, you're an athlete, you get
better and better as you do it. Hall of Famer
the Great Damn Marino join us on the Doug Gollip
Show Fox Sports Trading. I can't help but point out
that we worked together. It was like five six years ago.
I first at CBS, and you look exactly the same, like,

today for the final time before Super Bowl fifty two,
and of course, as we get closer and closer to
(22:45):
the game, you realize they've got to figure a way
to stop Tom Brady. That's what's on the mind of
Chris Long and the Eagle defenders today. You can't take
it easy on the goat. He's a hell of a dude,
hell of a player, and uh, he's trying to play
in mind game with me. Is that Jedi mind trick? No,
but you can't take it easy on him. He knows
that he's not gonna take it easy on us. It's
(23:05):
gonna be a great game. Chris Long shouldn't know that
he was teammates with Tom Brady at one point. Of course.
Super bowls Sunday Eagles and Patriots coming up on Sunday
and Super Bowl fifty two. Patriots will speak with the
media a little bit later on today. Some good news

Nicola Meritage to the pistol to the Pelicans and his
(23:47):
Pelicans also in the market for Greg Monroe. No Alonzo
bal tomorrow for the Lakers. In fact of the missed
their next two games because of a shoulder issue. That's
what's happening, Doug Ali Shell Thigh Sports Radio great stuff,
Dan um ah Man, this is an awesome guest to
have here. He has uh, he's got the secret to
(24:08):
beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Not just because
he did it, but he did it twice. He's Steve Spagnola.
He's joining me on the Doug Gottlieb Show before we
get to Pat's Eagles. I gotta ask you, Steve spagnolah course,
joining us former head coach in the NFL, the Rams,
UH and UH. Later at the late part of the season,
he was the interim head coach UH temporary air coach
(24:28):
with the New York Giants. UM, I wanna ask you,
though I know you wanted that job and Pat Tremer
got that job, did you feel like, oh, honesty, you
got a legit shot of becoming the guy in New York.
I'd like to feel that way. I mean, we'll never know,
but look at it's it's it's over and done. I'm
I still got blue blood. I'm always gonna have a
little bit because I believe in the organization and the leadership,
(24:51):
the Mara family, the tissues and and obviously you know,
God has plans for me to do something else and
my time in New York was done. Um, let me
ask you kind of quickly about their situation quarterback wise, right,
so obviously you come in after that, that whole thing
got messy. Um, Shermer's come in and said, like, Eli's
my guy. But does that mean you got The Giants
(25:12):
don't draft from the top five very often? And this
is a quarterback uh, you know, a quarterback heavy draft,
especially supposedly early in the first round. But then you
also you got Sae k One Barkley, and you got
all kinds of other holes that you've been You in
the staff have been trying to patch personnel wise, offensive
lines and issue spots in the defense or an issue.
Um if if they if if Sherman was to call
(25:33):
you and said, hey, you know in debt, gentleman says,
what would you do? I don't I don't think I'll
be getting anything. Okay, So again, so you can speak freely.
Running running can can running back elongateus. But the problem
if you draft running back is you gotta have an
offensive line to tray down. Maybe you get a bunch
of lineman, Like what do you do? Well, there's a
lot of ways you can go. You just define them
(25:53):
all right, And that's the part. Look at, that's the
beauty of getting ready for a draft and molding a team. Um,
they'll figure it out. Look At, Dave Dave's good man. Um,
they gotta they gotta spot there. All those options were available.
Do you legitimately how much gas is in the tank
for Eli? I'm an Eli Manning fan. I mean I
can't project that. I just I still I believe that
(26:15):
him this year. Um, I know, I'm I didn't know
that Pat had made that statement. That's good to hear.
I think Eli's got some good football left in him. Okay, Um,
I mentioned you cracked the code obviously famous. I wouldn't
say any code, but well, no, Look, everybody says like, well,
you gotta rush before and force him off the spot,
like right, But that's what That's what everyone in my
(26:35):
profession says, like like, we know what we're talking about.
But that's because that's what you were able to do,
right you guys. But but it's so much more to
it than that. Okay, So tell me how you were
able to crack the code to get to Brady to
make him look so uncomfortable. Yeah. I was fortunate to
have eleven guys out there on the field that we're
passionate and relentless about what they were doing. I mean,
(26:55):
I'm gonna take some players are going through my head
as you're asking that, Doug, I just remember a screenplay
where Freddie Robbins, who was an inside defensive tackle for US,
they throw it out I think it was West Welker
up one of those receiver screens and he runs and
tackles it for like a four yard game. But that's
what you have to do in this kind of game. Yeah,
(27:16):
all the time, they look at the Eagles are built.
They they've got speed, They've got some pass rushers, you
know they I mean they're their game is rushing for
for the most part, and coverage and they change their
coverage was up and I think they're built to do
exactly what you're talking about. Now. We're still talking about
the New England Patriots offense and Tom Brady and I
think they're fully aware. But this isn't as good as
(27:36):
Patriots offense as the one you took down. I mean,
they don't have Edelman um and I'm like, look, they
have some good weapons, but the one you took down
was maybe the best, maybe the best. The scariest guy
was Randy Moss. I mean, West, Welker and Stalworth could
take the top. Like you're right there. It's all coming
back to me now, Doug, it takes a little while here,
but but our guys look at it. It's it began upfront, uh,
(27:59):
with Michael and Osie and justin talking Freddie Robbins and
what they did. But the guy to me that gets
overlooked it I thought was key was Antonio Pierce in
the middle of the defense because there were some things
we did early in the game that he had to
orchestrate and there were things that we did in the
game that he had to change, like what I mean.
And and again I know we we don't have we
don't have coaches tape to go back chard here, but
(28:20):
if you but if you could give the layman, give
us the sense of what to look for, what what
do you guys do? Well, one thing we did do
I thought that was effective early was we were a
big overloaded zone pressure team. So you bring four guys
off to a side, you know, make the protection figure
it out. We had done it one way previous on
film and in Game sixteen, but we slightly changed it
(28:43):
the first time to the overload. You're just you're just
trying to outflank somebody right now, Well, we're trying to
get four guys off aside where they only have three
guys to block. Um, we we thought maybe they would
slide to protect that. They did, so we brought somebody
else from the other side. It was Covica Mitchell number
fifty five, and so we got a sack and that
happened early, and we thought if we could get that
to happen earlier, it might give them a little indecision.
(29:03):
I look at Tom Brady knows what he's doing. And
they adjusted a little bit, and we tried to adjust
in the game. I mean, Antonio Pears coming over and saying, Coach,
what we need to do is when Tom changed, I've
got I've got his you know, I know what he's calling,
I know he's doing. We need to change. I said,
that'd be great, go ahead and try to do it
until but you gotta make sure everybody gets it right.
And that's the challenge, you know, get it to the
next guys. Steve Pagnola Joon has in the Doug Gotli
(29:24):
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, you also you
know you you also know really well this Eagles offense.
Although it's it's changed dramatically here with Wentz out and
folds in. What have they done that's made fools more
comfortable because he looked. He looked. You know, this is
what reminds me of you ever go to somebody's house
and the hands your They're like, hey, can I change
(29:45):
the channel? They hands of their mote and you're like,
I have no idea how to use this remote? Right,
I know how to turn on the TV? Right. That
happens a lot to me, Like I even have I
even have to say I got direct TV, just like
he's got direct TV, but whatever reason, I can't do
it on somebody else's TV. That's what he looked like
for a couple weeks too. I know he came in.
I think it was against you guys ready through Yeah,
I believe the first game he played was US in
New York touchdown, but he wasn't great. I think the
(30:08):
four touchdowns you guys confused him a little bit early.
But then you know they I tell you what I thought,
Doug did a good job where in that particular game
because it was Nick's first game, I don't think they
got real elaborate. They let their players play, and they
got a really good offensive line, and they ran the
ball a little bit effectively on us, and I thought
that's what ultimately helped UH Nick get those touchdown passes
and whatnot. And I thought our offense and they got
(30:30):
that game, did a really good job against that defense
that came right down to the end with the fourth
down play that went incomplete. But I look at that,
I think the Eagles are a true team all three phases.
I think they're built right. I've they've certainly been built
right to get through this playoff fun I mean it's
obvious by what they've done. They win a real good, defensive,
tight game when they played uh in the first round,
(30:51):
the divisional round, and then last week, you know, they
score a bunch of points and Nick plays great. I
think I think you had a great be a great game.
You you don't last as long in this and be
as well respecting this profession as you have unless you
have a competitive gene in you. So the truth be told,
do you kind of want the Patriots to win because
you're the guy that took down the Patriots like the
best Patriots team? Yeah? I don't like to be like,
(31:16):
you don't want them to say like Spagnola did it short?
You're like, yeah, forget Jim Short. And it is a thing.
I don't want to root against anybody. I'm almost say
here's here's I tell everybody where he asked me. I'm
from Boston originally I have in laws from Philadelphia, so
I'm staying right in the middle. I'm gonna just watch
a good football all right? Fair enough to be continued
as to what's next for you? We wish you nothing
but the best, appreciate it, and we really appreciate you

I paid for my lid? Do I get a free
lid for reading this? What's it's the story I need?
There's a couple more hats that I really like? I mean,
do we have a free pass here? All right? For
all you're here in Minneapolis and St. Paul and saying,
if you're a graduate of Saint Olive, get your official
Super Bowl gear at one of the seven Lids or
the locker room by Lids. There's eight stores in which
you can get all your hats in the Mall of America,
(32:45):
including their larger store second floor and Macy's. Thanks uh
uh thanks to Lids for outfitting our set with official
football's helmets and penance. And uh, apparently I'm the only
guy who did not know that you can get free stuff.
I went and spend a bunch of money and brought
home hats or whatever. Still, it's a good little, good
little spot. We can get free stuff. You know it's free.
It's me I overpaid for some of my stuff. Um,
(33:08):
you weren't there last night? By or why why? And
by buyer and I get the end. Buy what happened
last night? What? What did you not? Where were you
last night? I was with friends. Oh man, I gotta
tell you, Like, look, the meal we had was really good.
There was a butter scotch dessert that I'm not I'm
gonna like. I I don't like hyperbolean food. It's the
best thing. It's it might be the best thing I've
(33:29):
ever in my life. Yes, it was some sort of
custard top with like a layer of butter scotch. Then
had a little of fresh whipping cream with pink salt
on top of it. And it was Emily and Jay
Lemma big hitter waves. The robe was it was unbelievable.
(33:50):
I've never and I'm not a dessert guy. I'm I'd
rather have two appetizers than have one dessert. But it
was unbelieved. What were you these good friends? I'm very
good friends, very good ful because you missed an awesome meal.
Let's get to a game. Okay, this is game time
on the Doug gott Leave Show. We didn't fite Buyer,
(34:13):
we didn't buy my bad like ninety minutes prior. But
I was already booked, all right. Were actually I was
late through no fault on my own either, But so
ninety minutes was actually two hours before. You have plenty
of time. I know, that's all right. I'd rather be
with these people. We would rather do not come and
(34:34):
rub it in your face that we had an awesome meal.
Al Right. Guess who is overreacting this guy? Oh, let's
see what do I got here? Got a game? Yeah,
we've got guests who Okay, Doug, let's uh, let's play.
Guess who? Guess who will retire if he doesn't return
(34:56):
to the only team he has played for it his
entire career. It's gotta be football, right, um, retire Larry Fitzgerald. Yes,
the conversation of Larry Fitzgerald, will he be back? Won't
he be back? Well, his father, longtime writer here in
(35:18):
the Twin Cities, quoted as saying that Larry will only
play for the Cardinals if he plays at all. So
that's the question. No, But the fact is is that
maybe Larry Fitzgerald, if if he, if he wants to decide,
it would only be with the if he wants to play.
That's still the question. They don't have a question when
(35:39):
you come back and play for I mean, why would you.
I don't know. They're gonna be in a rebuild, I
think is the question as well. So if he wants
to come back is if you want to go and
chase a ring. Uh, there's there's that aspect of it.
But it's only gonna be with the Cardinals even though
they don't have a quarterback. Then I have a head coach,
but they just don't have a quarterback. Guess who. Doug
refuted a ts Hen reports saying that quarter back Johnny
(36:00):
Manziel and the Hamilton's Tiger Cats remained far apart in negotiations.
Who refuted that Johnny Manzel Yes he actually quote retweeted
a tweet on the article saying, nah, there is her
report that Manzel wants five hundred thousand dollars for a
season to play with the Thai Cats. Well, they are
(36:21):
only offering one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to play.
So a wide gap between the two sides depends on
what you consider why gap? Right? Yeah? Yeah? Is there
like a Michael Strahan wide gap or is there like
a like a cavass If this was Aaron Rodgers, you
would say, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are only three
(36:42):
fifty thou dollars. But when it's but when it's five
hundreds supposed a hundars, that's actually a big gap. That's yeah,
that is that is a big That's a Niagara Falls
sort of gap that Johnny Manziel has with the tie Cats.
I'll tell you what if he did sign with the CFL.
Imagine those jerseys that would just be flying off the shelves.
Get a man's l CFL. You could get one of lids.
(37:04):
I bet they've got one of the seven locations. Plus
do you think it would be an available on all
seven locations? And if you notice, they've been selling the
jerseys from the movies, so they've got a Jimmy Chitwood,
they've got a there was a Jackie Moon from Semi Pro. Yeah,
just in the one just down the just down the
way here you can actually buy movie uniforms. Not too bad.
(37:25):
Get guests who is a current NBA All Star That
Paul Pierce Fields should be traded by his team because
that team is just right now mediocre with him. So
I know it's kind of convoluted, but Paul Pierce thinks
this player should be dealt by that team because he
doesn't think that the team and it would go high enough. Nope,
(37:46):
Damian Lillard. Paul Pierce made the comments last night as
he was doing some work on ESPN, saying that the
Portland Trail Blazers should look to trade Damian Lillard a
because he has the most value and B doesn't think
that the Blazers are going anywhere. This after an where
c J McCollum had fifty points. Yeah, I don't. I
think David Lillard is vastly overrated by Damian Lillard and
(38:06):
by some people inside the NBA. They think he's really good,
probably not even an All Star, just just just a
notch below at all. Start. He's not a great defender
and he doesn't necessarily create shots for others. Great shooter,
good score, I think, a great dude, but is a
non factor at the defensive end. KSU Doug hat Is
shutdown a school's famous college basketball tradition because of the flu.
(38:28):
So the school actually, yeah, there it is, didn't even
have to explain it. Duke, Yeah, Duke had to shut
down Staszewski Ville because of the flu. Now, the North
Carolina game where people will line up for weeks isn't
for another month. But Duke's saying right now because of
the breakout of the flu, that they have to batman.
(38:50):
All three of my kids and my wife had the flu.
Right now, I'm a little under the weather myself. Not
flu like knock on wood, but with flu like symptoms,
like either you have the fluid, it don't if you
have flu like symptoms, you got the flu. Yes, that's true.
That's that's a very much on the fence guy, the
flu like symptoms. Finally, Doug, guess who just broke Jay
(39:11):
Z's record for most top ten singles by a rapper
on the Billboard Hot one Arts. No, Drake. Drake is
the one who did it. He actually had two songs
cracked the top ten, bringing his total to twenty two,
breaking jay Z's mark of one. It should be noted
the all time record for top ten hits. You want
(39:34):
to know who holds that bonus points all time, not
just rappers, but of all time. Michael Um Michael Jackson,
No Madonna Madonna thirty eight. We are living in a
material world and I am a material girl thirty eight hits,
then the Beatles, then Rihanna and then Michael Jackson. Is
(39:57):
game time on the Duck Gottli Show. I'll say this
about the super Bowl. Okay, Radio Row is a little
bit too snug. Uh. It is freezing cold. It's one
degree outside. Um, this city is probably not really built
for a super Bowl. But I will tell you they
got Justin Timberlake, and they got Justin Timberlake in his prime.
You bring up Madonna, like Madonna had fifty years old
(40:18):
up there, and if you remember when she did the
super Bowl halftime, like she couldn't move like she couldn't
move like Madonna. So it's like a even rolling Stones
and they did it the last time. They so old
like he'd you know, it's like twenty years after your relevant,
then you're fifteen years after your relevant. Then you're in.
You perform the super Bowl justin Timberlake. Now I don't
want him to sing his new song, but because he
(40:40):
has so many other good songs that are better than Filthy.
But at least they got Justin Timberlake relatively in his prime.
Well they are. They did try to distance themselves from
the first Justin Timberlake incident that we all remember in Houston.
So then you went with the bands that you felt,
I don't know, Doug wouldn't do anything risque. And then
all of a sudden, at some point during it, you
started to to maybe branch out to to some of
(41:00):
the newer artists. When Beyonce did Super Bowl forty seven
and and then he had Cold Play a couple of
years ago, didn't fit. Bruno Mars is amazing, and then
they brought Bruno Mars back because he was He's so good,

most recently interim head coach with the New York Football Giants.

tweet it out yet? Ryan Music and tweeted, tweeted out
or put it on Facebook, Twitter, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Kim
Jordan of the Saints gonna join us momentarily, Greg Olsen's
gonna join us, Tim Brown, Terry Bradshaw Man, we got
some good story for you. Let me start with the
story of the day. Story of the day is Chris Haynes,
(42:54):
reporter ESPN dot Com says that um apparently apparently Lebron James.
It's possible Lebron James could at least take a meeting
and maybe consider going to the Golden State Warriors in
the off season. Lebron James can be a free agent
the in the off season. Here's what's happening. Look, it's
(43:17):
done in Cleveland. It's done. No one thinks you can continue.
Dan Gilbert's making decisions. He and Dan Gilbert, Dan Gilbert's
making basketball decisions. He and Dan Gilbert don't get along.
The team lost again, excuse me one last night by
one point at home, but the team is is twenty
nine overall. In defense, Kevin loves out with a broken hand.
(43:41):
Isaiah Thomas been a bad fit. It's done in Cleveland.
We all know it. But the Lakers, though, that is
the primary and most likely destination. The Lakers are not perfect,
right Alonzo Ball, you got LaVar issues, He's got dad issues,
and he's got he's not that good issue. Brandon Ingram
(44:02):
doesn't have a lot of dog in him, doesn't have
that like their best player, Kyle Kuzma, the best young prospect,
Kal Kuzma truth be told as best if he's your
fourth or fifth best players. So could it work with
the Lakers. Yeah, but it's not a locked up since
so it appears it feels like Lebron's folks, they're just
floating out ideas maybe Houston, maybe the Sixers, maybe Golden State,
(44:27):
maybe maybe maybe. What does that do? It creates leverage
for Lebron so that if he does go to the Lakers,
he can dictate the terms instead of the other way around.
All Right, more on that to come. Uh. This dude's
a pro bowler and played on one of not just
a better defense in the NFL, but one that had
completely turned around the narrative in New Orleans. He's Cam
(44:50):
Jordan's defensive end um of the New Orleans Saints thirteen
sacks in two thousands seventeen. He joins us here on
Fox Sports Trading. How are you? I'm good? Thanks for
having me on? Good Man? Um, how much to still staying? Uh?
I was thinking we're gonna talk about this Lebrage Lebron trade.
I was I was gonna say, he's gonna go to
(45:10):
you know, the Phoenix Suns. We're gonna have uprising again. Right, cool. Cool.
I just figured the Deaf Book and Lebron would be
a phenomenal con combo. But you know, I just have
Hope's dreams. It's cool. Um. Uh, you know you were
talking about the last ten seconds of of the Minnesota game.
I mean to preempt that. I mean, you have to
talk about what this season had had meant to New Orleans,
(45:32):
what the season did for our defense. Um to talk
about the turnover we had from our defense, Um, from
the first two games to going on on an eight
game winning streaks. See, here's the problem. You have too
much balance, You have too much perspective. Okay, no, no, no no,
you're supposed to be like fans have no balance. Fans
are like, dude, we had it, we had it one
and then we missed one tackle and it's one guy's
(45:53):
fault and it's over and like yeah, But the truth is, like,
you got Alvin come, you got study Us. You found
a superstar wide receiver, you found a superstar running back.
You had a superstar running back. Now you have this
dynamic duo. Right, but more than anything, you found a defense. Right,
Like you know, you're talking about the resurgence of man titail.
(46:14):
You talk about, uh, the appearance of Marshaw and Latimer.
Marcus Williams had a hell of a rookie years. He
actually had a very good game in great game again
the last ten seconds you talk about it. But but
my my my thing is like, so to answer my question,
to answer your question, you have perspective on it for sure? Um,
is that shared in the front office, that shared in
the locker, because you know, sometimes we overreact to how
(46:36):
the game ends instead of worrying about the body of
the game, which was an incredible comeback on the road,
a game you should have won, and the resurging defense
and all the good stories. Do you think that's how
it's felt throughout the organization. Look, I put it before
you go to the organization. I mean I put it
on myself. I feel like, um, the caliber of player
I am. I mean it had I been able to
re enact you know the Detroit the Detroit game where
(46:58):
you know I picked up an off of the lineman,
throw me into the quarterback, we cancel that game out.
I mean, Um, in my mind, I've gone through this
play thirty forty thousand times, you know, Um, and I'm
gonna continue to because I feel like I could have
affected that play more. UM. I chose you know, a
speed retch rather than going you know about exactly, rather
going a power Um, it made you know, case step up,
(47:20):
but it didn't it didn't finish the job. So I'm
gonna put that on myself to even get my get
my young guy out of this situation entirely. UM, how
did you guys turn around? I mean, like I understand
personnel changes, but like it didn't matter. They've made personnel
change for five years. You guys couldn't stop anybody. Then
all of a sudden this year, it was a really
good defense. What what changed? Um? At this point it
(47:43):
was the same mentality. I mean that the mentality actually clicked,
the mentality of buying in and believing that we were
going to be a great unit. You have offense as
potent as it is. You have a top receiver like
Mike Thomas. UM and how good a year he had
right you talked about you talked about Toronto. Armstead was
healthy at the beginning the year. I mean, he's one
of the top tackles when he's healthy. Ryan Ramcheck came
(48:05):
in and you know he was being tutored by Zack street. Um,
So your defense who is unmolded? Your defense, who was
just a ball of putty, a ball of clay. Um,
it starts forming in a hundred and you know, hundred
and three degree temperature with humidity New Orleans. That's when
it starts, you know, starts molding, and it's slowly cemented
(48:25):
during the season. You don't know what type of defense
you're gonna be. Preseason, there's no live bullets. But but
it felt like like, look, when the Saints went to
the Super Bowl, that was one that all they did
was try and get turnovers, right, was like, we just
and you know what if you if we try and
get a turnover we missed, That's all right, Drew is
gonna We're gonna march down the field and score really quickly.
It felt like this one was constructed a little bit
differently to which you guys are legitimately stopping people instead
(48:48):
of just right. What So that's a difference in mentality,
isn't it? For sure? For sure? I mean we we
wanted to like so, I mean I told all the
young guys when they got here, I said, look, I
don't need you to be I don't need to be learning.
I don't need you to be good. I need you
to be great and I need you to be great now.
I need you. Um. You know, Martian probably tell anybody
like I Like he came up to me before even
introduced himself and say, Yo, I need you. I don't,
(49:11):
I don't need much. I need you. You know, I
need you to show up. Um. I need you to
be exactly who we think you are. UM. You know
I tell this some you know Marcus Marshan, Uh, Kim
Crawley like, I need you. I need you to be
better than what you were before. I need to be
better than what you've ever been. I need you now.
Um and everybody again, everybody buys into the mentality. Craig
Robinson had a hell of a second year on our defense.
(49:32):
He's seven years in the league. Uh, Mat Titel comes
over first year in our defense, and he's the same mentality.
Whatever we've done previously has not been enough to get
us to where we need to go. He's a pro bowler.
He was fourth in the NFL in sacks seventeen sacks
in the season. Camp Jordan joining us on the Doug
Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Drew says, he
wants to come back, team wants him back, like like
(49:52):
all right, so it's done. But there is the dollars
and cents to it, right, there is the Hey man,
we need to spread this kind of money around because
now you gotta running game, You got any hole that
needs to be filled, We're gonna need the money to do. So.
What's your level of confidence that Drew will be the
starting quarterback Week one next year? Yeah? I mean he
said it, the organization said it. At this point. Uh,
(50:14):
it's above my pay grade, right, it's uh, it's probably
two or three times above my preyiride for talking about
player wise, it's just above my playde fair fair enough, Um, okay,
help me out with these with these teams. Uh, let's
start with the Eagles. As a defensive guy, you have
to love their front, I mean, and they rotate guys.
What's the weakness to the way in which they play defense? Um? See,
(50:35):
that's the thing with the with the Eagles. I mean,
they have so much depth on the on their line. Um,
would you would you like that? See? I I kind
of feel like like you guys don't have the same style,
the same depth. But that kind of hurts your numbers, right,
like like number of snaps you can a coach, you'll
sell you on, like, hey, Cam, you can go hard
more because you're only playing six snaps. Like yeah, but
(50:57):
if I played all the STAPs better numbers, which I mean,
that's that takes a sacrifice of ego for guys to
want to rotate for sure. Um, I haven't had that
luxury to have that kind of depth before. So I'll
overcome me when I when I get there, fair enough. Um,
but when you talk about just exactly that, I mean,
you've got Vinny Curry, Brandon Graham, Um, Chris Long, Barnett, Uh,
(51:23):
Fletcher Cox you know, um in the middle, we the beast,
That's what I'm saying. So when you talk about just
that ability to rotate out in and out, Um, that
keeps you, that keeps you a thousand You've seen You've
seen Tom Brady up close and personal, beaching in your place, right, Um,
Like everybody says, like, like the cliche from guys like
me that don't really know what we're talking about is like, well,
(51:45):
you know you gotta force him off the spot, You've
gotta pressure him before, right, But how do you really
be Tom Brady let's let's sayna say the weaknesses that
is the middle. I mean, if you you leave Fletcher
Cox uh to do what he does, he's gonna take
advantage of the center. Um, you're gonna take advantage of
the guards right guard from looking at them right guard. Yeah,
I mean there's that. That's your mismatch right there. Um,
(52:07):
you know their tackles are solid. Uh, Tom Brady is
Tom Brady. Um, so your criick is uh crick is
directed from point A to point B is straight. So
at this point I'm is really to me is how
well Fletcher Cox really performs. And they do a really
good job of of trying to get the same thing
kind of you guys do with Kamara. Obviously they're not
(52:27):
as good as Kamara with getting a linebacker run and
running back, you know, finding finding that one mismatch your
old teammate Brandon Cooks. They found that mismatch against the
Jacks where they were giving him so much space in
the second half that they were just running hitches and
he caught four, you know, four times, Like how much
space are you gonna give him? But he's got so
much speed that you gotta give him some sort of
space is there do you have how do you how
(52:49):
do you handle that? Do you have to switch the
matchups and trick them? I mean, how do you handle
Tom Brady who's constantly kind of probing the defense early
in the game to find that mismatch that he exploits
late in the game. Yeah, that that'd be the that'd
be the U if I had that answer, You're not.
There's a one play away from no doubt. Um, okay,
(53:12):
you you're here promoting one of the coolest things ever. Now,
I'm not a motorcycle guy, right, because motorcycles they're like
the they're the they're the cigarette of transportation, right, whereas
the risk is far greater than the reward. I thought
they were just madly over addicting. But they're addicting, but
they're also super they're also super dangerous, right, but the
(53:35):
player's slingshot like is a way safer kind of? It's
a three wheel, right. It looks like you know, the Batmobile?
Who had a baby with the Harley? You know? Um,
do you have one? Not yet? How did you do
this deal? This is I shouldn't negotiate all these deals
for you guys, right, Like Stefon Diggs. Uh he joined
(53:55):
us righte Stefan Diggs, And I was like, he's doing
for deltas, Like, how do you not have like a
past where you can wherever you want to go? Forget
the cat players sling shot? So okay. So it's like
a three wheel roadster. The two wheels in the shift
or the front two wheels on the front, one wheel back.
It's a stick shift. I was telling I was like, yo,
before this, like you know when when I when I
(54:15):
tested you over this thing. Um, I didn't even like,
I don't know the last time I had a stick shift,
like high school. I was back when I was like,
you know, fifteen, stealing my brother's car, Like, oh he sleeps.
I mean there, you know, playing with the clutch. Then
that's how you sort of where's the clutch in it? Oh,
it's it's just like that is right the everbody. So
it's clutch. You're you're set in the deal kind of
(54:37):
like you're driving a car exactly, got two wheels in
the front, on the back to passenger. Oh this is sick. Yeah,
these things are so cool. Yeah, so how did you
not get One's got to be part of the deal.
Just think about it today the two thousand and eighteen
Slingshot Grand Touring l E came out. Is that what
you wanted to hear? I was waiting for them to
put a roof on this thing. It's got, it's got,
it's got a shift, it's got a sling shade. Now, Um,
(54:57):
so it's it's roofed. If that's what you're looking for.
Not looking for that. I wanted the idea of being,
of being being safer. I guess I don't know, but
you're still kind of locked in with the with the
role cage even when it's even the convertible version. And
then now you know, like I said, so it was
fully fully loaded. Um. You know you could look up
and look at up on Instagram at uh polaris and
(55:18):
then on UH more information. You can go online, you know,
get that thing at uh Polaris, slingshot dot com. So
for guys like me who are scared of the motorcycle,
this is a way cooler. It's called an auto cycle.
It's a way cooler, way safer a version of it,
right right right, You don't even need a motorcycles forty
one forty one of the states. You don't need a
motorcycle license. I want one, but I'm I'm more more
(55:38):
than anything, I'm just curious into how you didn't get one, Like, dude,
come on, man, you're a Pro Bowl. You have seventeen
sacks Like this is one of those things like do
you want to do players sling shot and go on
national radio shows and TV shows? The answer is absolutely yes.
Do you want to promote the sling shot? Yes? Where
can you put one in my driveway? And all you
did was I did have it? Look, look and I'll
(55:59):
have it again. I'll have it again. Where did you
test drive it of Pro Bowl? Pro Bowl? And then
in Orlando? Yeah? Exactly, got a track and it like
you know street street street. Yeah, fun, great time. I
would say, I'm looking forward to, you know, driving around
in Arizona with it because of all the amazing minding roads.
(56:19):
I might have to tell probably Arizona is though they
have all those it's flat, but they also have all
those street cameras. Man, because you start like, right, if
you're in Scottsdale. Every time I go to every time
I go to scotts Stale, I come back with the ticket.
You go to the Indian Risk Indian Reservation I'm actually
this is this is Minnesota. You could go to the
z Yeah, because Evenian reservation. Even if you get a ticket,
(56:40):
you don't like have to pay it right like, because
just don't get pulled over. Don't get don't don't get
pulled over. Cam George New Orleans Saints joinings on behalf
of sling Shot The Players Sling Shot. Go do at
Slingshot on Twitter, check it out at Polaris sling Shot
on Instagram or Facebook. Uh it is is it is dope,
And I hope Cam gets one, and then I'm gonna
(57:01):
come to Phoenix and uh and ride in one with him.
His dreads to be flying all over the place. That'll
be cool. Deal. Thanks man, appreciate really appreciate it. How
do you beat the Patriots? All right? Camden tell us
he's like, if I knew that I'd be in the
super Bowl. Maybe Greg Olsen knows he'll join us up

gonna join us. Who knows he's Greg Olsen. Uh, the
(59:08):
Carolina Panthers joining me on the Doug Gottlieb Show. All right,
let's let's go back to you and your football. So
how would you characterize your football season? It was a
little different. You know, it started off a little weird
right before training camp, had a change at GM which
was you know, a little a little out of the
out of the left field. But you know, we got
off to a decent start. Obviously I got her. We
lost Ryan Kleil, so that was a little you know,
(59:29):
tough start, losing two of our veteran guys, but you know,
the young guys stepped up. They did a great job.
I had some big road wins early and then you know,
kind of hit a little bit of a slow patch
there in Chicago and whatnot, and then kind of picked
it up at the end. So you know, we want
to levin, which you know, we probably a game or
too short from where we really needed to be in
order to get that home field and and maybe a
buyer who knows, but uh, you know, all in all,
(59:50):
it was, it was an okay season, you know, made
the playoffs, but didn't do much past that. I mean,
but crazy though, considering your injury, Khalil's injury, I mean,
basically a change in in terms of what you're gonna
do a wide receiver, a big you know trade kind
of melt season, Kelvin Benjamin being being chipped off. And
then you mentioned, you know, part of that was Dave Gentleman,
you know, is is uh is fired now he's up
(01:00:11):
in New York. Like that's there's a lot of that's
a lot of stuff. And yet still I thought, I
don't know, I mean, look, you're part of it, felt
like Cam, I don't know, kind of Cam evolved. Cam
got back to uh, maybe not two years ago m
v P Cam, but obviously a lot better than what
he was when he started, when he seemed really rusty
and really inaccurate. Yeah, I think the off season was tough.
(01:00:31):
We didn't have him for much. You know, he had
the he had the surgery in the off season on
his shoulder and kind of kept him out of all
the off season stuff, even most of training camp, played
a little bit in the preseason, then we hit the
ground run and come the opening day against San Francisco.
So again, not ideal, not not what you're looking for,
But sometimes the NFL is a cruel business. Sometimes the
hand that you're dealt you have to make the best
of And I think, as you said, as the season
(01:00:53):
went on, he really started playing well. He started running
the ball. He was, you know, so dynamic with the
ball in his hands as a passer, as a runner.
And when he's doing that, he uh, you know, there's
there's not a lot of guys who've ever done it
like that. They're they're obviously you know in season obviously
got a chance, uh to work for Fox. There's been
a lot of talk about the idea of of walking
away from broadcasting like and walking away from football like
(01:01:16):
Tony Romo when you still had gas in the tank
and go into broadcasting. Um, where where are you in that?
In terms of that decision making process, I got one
more year on my deal and so we'll you know,
obviously I'm gonna play this year and see how things
work out. But I think you're always I think you're
always open to opportunity. I think you're always open to
the right thing. Um. I had a great time working
with Fox that that crew was was amazing with Kevin
(01:01:37):
and Charles and and Pam and and the producers. They
were just so good to me and kind of showed
me the ropes to to call a live game out
of the blocks like that was. It was a little daunting,
and uh, to be with a crew that that kind
of helped me ease into it a little bit was great.
So I really enjoyed that. I'm gonna do some stuff
with ESPN on on Sunday morning for the pregame show
on countdown for the game. Um. So I've been very lucky.
(01:01:57):
I've had a lot of access to a lot of
different types of podcasting, and uh, you never know if
the right if the right move, if the right position
ever presented your presented itself. You know you mentioned Romo.
I mean, what an awesome opportunity. He did a great
job with it. Um, you know, it's something you'd at
least consider for sure. How much of it is pressure
from home? I mean, like, look, did we we we
know what you guys go through. And you know we've
(01:02:18):
seen so many tight ends get concussions this year. Uh,
you know, and obviously you know you've had your own
injuries and like everybody, every player's got mortality. Man, Jason
Witten is trying to fight that obviously in Dallas. But
how much of it is pressure from home? Like, hey,
you know you could walk away and never take a
hit ever again, It's true, that's just the reality of it,
especially going into my twelfth season. You know, I don't
(01:02:38):
have to do this, but but I still enjoy and
I think and my wife is the is the biggest
supporter as far as that goes. Um, you know, she
I don't think she'd want to deal with me second
guessing my decision and the rest of my life. I
think that's the last thing she'd want to have at home.
So She's very supportive, and you know, it's clear she
feels the same way I do. As long as you
still enjoy the off seasons and start, as long as
you're still willing to put in the work to play
(01:03:00):
at a high level, continue to do it. And if
you can, if you can still play physically and mentally,
you feel good, you should continue to play because it's
what I've always done, It's what I love to do.
And when that love of preparation and playing goes, then
it'll be that will be the time to step away.
And do you I still enjoy I do? I. I
look forward to the off seasons every year trying to
find new things that I can do to to improve
(01:03:20):
or to add to my preparation, add to my game,
so that that constant, you know, searching for the next
thing is is something that I really enjoy. And uh,
you know, hopefully I can keep playing at a high
level for you know, at least one more year. So
here's here's here's here's the broadcaster advice the former player
broadcaster advice to the current player future broadcaster. Uh, if
(01:03:40):
you doing the games makes you want to play in
the games, yeah, I can see that, Like I I've
finished playing at six and like, I couldn't. I wasn't
gonna make it to the NBA. Could have played overseas forever.
And when you're in studio, there's a disconnect between the games.
It's not the energy, it's not it's probably not as
much fun, although you can show some people you know,
(01:04:01):
you're so bright in terms of your football i Q,
not just your regular i Q that you can show
people things that other guys missed. Right, It's all different
perspective when you go to it. Like when you're there
you're gonna be broadcasting game. The first year especially, I
think it'll be really hard, just because you know, you're, like, man,
i'd love to be in luck. I can only imagine
what Romo felt watching some of those teams, knowing that
you know, a year or two ago that was him,
(01:04:23):
So I get it. Those are all natural emotions that
I can totally see and relate to. Um. But again,
the energy in the studio in the booth that day
was really cool. You know, it was here right down
the street, was here in Minnesota actually, and you know that,
don't You got all the state secrets that they were
worried to beat them the next two weeks later. It's
just because I was in the stadium. Oh man, it's
(01:04:44):
always something. It is if coaches are are a strange breed,
a strange Okay, uh, tell HI about these Eagles defense,
because I think the question that people have everybody respects
that front four. It's just wide nine thing right. So
um and that's so, how how do they How good
a job do they do at covering the tight end
because that's obviously a huge key just stopping the Patriot.
(01:05:06):
That'll be a big part of their scheme. And I
think they got a lot of guys that they can
throw at him. I think they got some fast, athletic
linebackers in the middle. Malcolm Jenks kind of kind of
can play like a linebacker down safety, deep safety's conna
versatile back there. So I think the key with gronkowskis
you're not just gonna put one guy on him and
say there you go the whole game. You're gonna mix
it up zone cover, you know, zone man, guys over
the top of them, bang him, hit him at the
(01:05:26):
line of scrimmage, make them, you know, make them have
second level releases. Just be on him, and you're never
gonna take them away. You're never gonna limit his catches,
you know. He you just gotta limit the impact that
his catches make. It can't be third and ten and
he gets twenty on you. It can't be on the
red zone and a crucial third down and you can
want to hold him to a field goal and and
Brady finds him for a big touchdown. You know, those
are the backbreaking plays that he's so accustomed to making.
(01:05:47):
He's gonna get his catches, he can a hundred yards.
Just you gotta do your best to not make it
be every big catch, every big scenario. Brady's looking to
him so easier said than done, right, It's what every
team tries to do. But that's the pact he makes
in those critical situations is key. What about the Patriots defense, Like,
statistically they don't allow a lot of points, but they
(01:06:07):
allow a lot of yards and and like it's really
hard to tell how much of it is their division stinks,
and so you've been able to you've been able to
You're able to keep uh, below average quarterbacks out of
the red zone. That's why they below average quarterbacks. And
how much of it is that's just kind of who
they are. I think it's a combination of both. I
think they've been fortunate in their in their division and
not have to play too many marquee guys at the
(01:06:29):
quarterback position. It's just isn't that what separates? Like, I mean,
look at the NFC South, Look at our division. I
mean we're playing Matt Ryan m v P Drew Brees
m v P Jameis Winston, the next crop of young,
really talented players. You're gonna play every week against a
guy who could throw up for four hundred on you
and score forty every six times a year. We gotta
play those guys. It's just, you know, it's just the
(01:06:49):
way it goes. Okay, So but back to the Patriots.
So give me a sense of their defense, because I
kind of feel like we we we focus. We're not
that smart in the media, right, We try and dummy
things down for ourselves and for for fans, and so
we country on Brady and the Eagles defense, when maybe
the other key is the other side. Because because full
seem to regain his confidence and the Patriots defense has looked,
(01:07:12):
uh a little bit more like it looked at the
start of the year. Here, Um, you know, against Jacksonville.
I mean, I know they boat up, but it's it's Jacksonville,
it's Blake Bortles, it's not it's it's not somebody who
scares you. Whereas Fulls in that offense looked a little scary.
It looked like they if they can bottle up what
they did there in the NFC Championship, Philly is gonna
be dangerous because when they get that run and tack
going with the Giant and and Blunt and Howard. Even
(01:07:34):
last week, um, they really were rolling. And then from there,
all of a sudden, all of a sudden, the play
action starts working the R P O stuff. They started
hitting zach Ertz and then they got the two guys
on the outside with a R and alshon Jeffrey, So
I mean they got some weapons. Offensively. Their offensive line
is fantastic. They're very good upfront, So I think the
Belichick and Patricia they're obviously as good as it gets
in the defensive side of the ball and and game planning,
(01:07:56):
and I think their biggest emphasis always is to take
away what the other team does. Batton. I think with
the Eagles, that starts up front with their offensive line
and their ability to run the ball. So I would
expect New England to really try to make them one dimensional,
really try to take away the run and say, all right,
Nick Foles, go for it, drop back, keep them in
third and long, keep him out a short yard, you know,
keep them at a third and short situations where they
have to run pass options and say, all right, you
(01:08:17):
passed the ball to win. I wouldn't. I think that
would be a good game plan. Now, if they can
get rolling, I think it's uh. They're pretty dynamic and
folls ken beaches, so it's uh that that chess match
is gonna be very interesting. If you can go back
and change one thing about your Super Bowl experience for
a little bit, I mean, other than obviously winning the game, yeah, obviously,
I mean there any is there anything that you're like, Man,
I wish that's not even so much obviously winning the
(01:08:38):
game part. That's the easy answer. I wish we would
have just played better. I I you know, I would
have rather if you're gonna lose, at least lose And no, hey, man,
we we played as we were a customer. We had
such a good year. We were rolling on people. NFC
Championship game on the best defensive league at fourteen, and
to start the year you end up one fifteen and
one gotta buy We're up thirty four nothing or thirty
(01:09:00):
one nothing or whatever. At halftime against Seattle in the
divisional round. Won that game, won forties something that's seventeen
or whatever. I don't remember the exact score, but we
scored forty plus. So we were rolling and then we
just really struggled. And a lot of that credit, obviously
was Denver's defense was very good and they had a
good plan against us. I just wish we would have
played better offensively. Our defense did an awesome job. I mean,
(01:09:21):
they pretty much stifled Lanning in their offense. It's just
we really struggled offensively on our end. And uh and
I think that's a regret we all had, which such
what we had, such a good year offensively, and we
really had a lot of confidence in a lout of momentum.
I just wish we would have just played better. And
you know, if you lose, you lose, but at least
lose playing to give yourself a chance. Does it didn't
give ourselves a chance? Does it happen? Is it? Does
(01:09:43):
it happen? Like it feels when you're watching the game
at home, you're like, damn, this is a long game, right,
there's the pump and circumstance and the flyover, and then
there's the national anthem and then you know, and then
you have the long halftime show. So to us it
seems long. I would guess though, right, and like, well, wait,
we dont want to do that. A. It's so funny
you say that you walked into the locker room after
and you're like, it's over. What do you mean it's over?
(01:10:05):
Like no, no, we gotta do that again. Like that
was not It's a very unique experience and people can
tell you it all you want, but until you actually
experience it firsthand, um, it's it's really and there. And
then there's this you guys had it, the Falcons dug
themselves out of it. Then there's this post super Bowl hangover. Right,
you're like the team that loses, and I don't know
whether it's like for you guys, it was you guys
(01:10:27):
had such a dominant year and then you're disappointed. It
so so like if you tell somebody like you do
know that the Carolina Panels with the best team in
football that year, right, like they were. We were a
game away from having arguably the greatest season in NFL history,
if we would have gone eighteen and one Super Bowl
champ I don't know if anybody ever could. You know,
(01:10:47):
you have the undefeated. You know that they didn't win,
They didn't win eighteen games, they won what was it, fourteen?
Whatever is it back then, because didn't play as many
games or whatever it was. But now, why do you
think there's that? Why is there they post super Bowl
hangover for the team that loses, you would think. I
think the way that season came to an end was tough.
I think we had a little roster turnover that we
(01:11:07):
would have liked to have kept a few of those
guys that ended up going elsewhere longer. See, I don't know.
And you know, again it's not an excuse because you know,
New England's and ANFC championship every year and they have
no problem regrouping in the off season. So I think
we learned a lot about ourselves. I think we learned
a lot about um, you know, handling success and what
it means to be consistently good year in a year out.
So I think it was a it was a tough
(01:11:29):
tough lesson, but but nonetheless a lesson learned. All right,
So percentage chance you saddle up with with Thomas Davis
one last season as opposed to go into the booth.
You gotta you gotta percentage. I'm I mean, unless somebody
blew you out of the water. I mean, I'm I'm
looking forward. I'm preparing to to play another game another season.
I'm excited about playing. I still feel like I can
(01:11:49):
play at a high level. It's it's something I'm not
just doing it to do it. I still really feel
like I can play and and and not just contribute,
but you know, but be you know accustomed, you know,
play like I'm accustomed. To tell me about this Big

You know that the Patriots have been to the Super
Bowl a lot. In fact, for Tom Brady, it's number
eight for the franchise. It's number ten, the most of
any team in the NFL. So all this talk about
dynasty something that Eagles Wade receiver Elshan Jeffrey wants nothing
to do with. I love having done. That's what we're

Gotli showed about this time we try and bring back
for you a portion of one of the littany litany
of shows on Fox Sports Radio. We call it say
Chris Carter is in fact a Hall of Famer. He
is in fact the co host of First Things First
on Fox Sports one. It's also available on Serious XM
(01:16:52):
channel eight three. Every morning he had this to say
about whether or not this was the year or this
is the year Teo gets into the Hall of Fame.
And I know you're a guy with list, so I
just quickly just came up with the list. Over the
last forty years in the National Football League, I believe
there were five wide receivers who should have been first
ballot Hall of Famers. Number one, of course being Jerry Rice.
(01:17:15):
Number two Michael Irvin, the playmaker with Dallas Cowboy with
three championships. They held against him whatever they wanted to
hold against him to keep him out. Terrell Owens should
be in the Hall of Fame. As a first ballot
given the numbers. But now they came up with some
criteria that now the locker room is an extension of
the playing field, and we had never ever heard that before.
(01:17:36):
Randy Moss is a first ballot Hall of Famer and
I'm not gonna be ashamed to say it. With the
numbers that I put up, I should have been a
first ballot Hall of Famers. So we have seen this.
I waited, Michael Irvin waited. T O is still waiting. Man.
I'm I'm praying for Randy. I'm working the phones, I'm
calling people. But it's gonna be tight. I mean it's
gonna be a long contested battle. And the people who
(01:17:58):
have voted for Terrell Owning, do they decide not to
vote for Randy Moss because of what happened to t O. Uh. Look,
I think the Randy Moss is rubber stamped into the
Hall of Fame. Is It's honestly, it's the power of TV,
right because Randy Moss, he was on Fox for a
year and now he's been on ESPN for a year.
(01:18:20):
I think we're starting to remember Randy Moss a little
bit differently, and ultimately he'll get in. But remember Randy
Moss was the I play when I want to play
Randy Moss um he it was an incredible deep ball threat.
They're two very different wide receivers, right. Randy Moss was
a was like one of the great home run hitters
of all time. He led the league in touchdown receptions
(01:18:43):
five different times, but his career was much shorter than
t O's and wasn't as productive in terms of volume
of receptions during that time as t Os. I think
both have both have the issue of being being personalities
that rubbed some people the wrong way. And also we're
(01:19:04):
more about themselves than being part of a team. You know.
One of the other interesting parts of the Randy mossto
is he was part of the eighteen and one New
England Patriots, who were arguably the best team, um, the
best of the Patriots team. They just lost in the
Super Bowl. But he never won a Super Bowl. Never Now.
(01:19:25):
Teo didn't win a Super Bowl either, but he did
get to the Super Bowl and came back early from
injury and played well in the Super Bowl with the
Philadelphia Eagles. That the problem with both of them was that,
uh they yes, they came into the NFL when it
it started to become past first offensively. But whether it's
(01:19:45):
a perception or reality that they were me first guys
in in a in a sport which loves to call
itself the ultimate team sport, and because they were such
big personalities, such big talents, that we have the mon
camera talking about themselves and being defensive about their me
first personalities, I think works against him. I don't think
(01:20:08):
either one of them get in this year. I just
don't UM. And it's not because Randy Moss won't ultimately
get in. He probably will. I think he'll get in
sooner than he would have because TV creates a kind
of TV UM neutralizes some of the negativity. But I
just I don't think it's a locked up sinch and
t O's bitterness and lashing out at not getting in
(01:20:30):
that doesn't help it. That doesn't help as conditions on
the field change, soaking your insurance needs talk with the
Farmers agent today so you can assess whether your policy
is game ready by an agent at Farmers dot com.
Farmers see here, Here's what I mean. Like, um uh, Look,
(01:20:54):
when you when you're the human element is always a
huge each element. When you have the when you have voting.
And I tell people this all the time about the
n c A Tournament. If you've ever been through the
process of picking the teams for the field of sixty eight,
you know that once you kind of get down to it,
(01:21:14):
there's a bunch of numbers that you can go with.
You can choose. You can say, hey, the a s
cerve says one thing, but the road record or r
p I or you know record versus the top under
those are the ones that I value the most. But
the truth is that you're just picking teams because you
like them, right. It's like, you know what, I just
(01:21:35):
like this team better. I may have seen them once
and thought that they were better than the team that
I saw twice and thought wasn't as good, And so
because of it, there's just the human element to it,
and that there's no difference in that as the human
element as there is with the Hall of Fame. Yeah,
if you go by numbers, but there's there's no real
metrics for how to judge what a Hall of Famer is.
(01:21:57):
So if you don't think, if you come in with
the eyes that Randy Moss isn't a first ballot guy,
or that t O was uh such a jerk at
times that you know, once he left, nobody wanted back.
Couldn't say goodbye to the NFL all these different things.
You're still just voting for people. At the end of
the day. There's no real metric there. You're just you
(01:22:19):
just do it because that's what you want to do.
And I honestly think that's the Hall of Fame. It's
very much, very similar. They can say it's about one thing,
or about all pros and Pro Bowls and leading the
league or whatever. End of the day, it's about do
you want to pick a guy to get the ultimate
honor in his sport? Nothing else? All right, what do
(01:22:41):
you got? What have you got? The next hour? Coming up?
Next hour? UM, I want to get to this Lebron
to the Warriors thing. Is it a real is the
real thing? We're also gonna have Tim Brown Hall of
Fame or talking about great hands, like about wide receivers
getting in We'll we'll throw it at Tim Brown. Terry
Bradshaw is gonna join us as well. A couple Hall
of famers will join us. Uh here in the third
(01:23:03):
hour of the show from Radio Row. But up next Um,
when you're in a negotiation, somebody has to have the hand.
There has to be an order of the conversation. Lebron
is trying to take that hand. That's next. What Up
America Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio brought you by
(01:23:28):
Black Rifle Coffee Veteran and Veteran Roast. To visit Black
Rifle Coffee dot com. Use the code Fox Sports twenty
Your first offer Dune doone, Dune, Dune, Dune, dude, dune man.
We got a lot of stuff to get today, Ton
metric ton to get to UM. Alright, so the story
(01:23:53):
of the day is lebron ch sources. Lebron would listen
to the Warriors, the brand would listen to the Wurs. Now,
look on the surface, there's just it's a lot. You're like, okay,
why would huh so what and then wait could they
(01:24:15):
actually do this? Like yeah, here's what they'd have to do.
They'd have to trade Clay Thompson. All right, trade take
Clay Thompson for Lebron. James sign and trade. He moves.
They get rid of Iguodala, they get rid of uh
Sean Livingston and um Kevin and Kevin Durant would have
to decline his option and then resigned for like million
(01:24:38):
dollars instead of the max. So could it be done? Yes, yes, yes, sure,
it ain't happening. There's a really a couple of reasons
why it's not gonna happen all right. Here's the first
is by even allowing this conversation to take place, it
floats out the idea that Clay Thompson might not be
(01:25:00):
a lifer with the Warriors. So there is a certain
sinister element to this, to where you're like, wait, is
this just the calvs or this just Team Lebron trying
to pick apart the Golden State Warriors right, because it
makes you um a little less confident in their ability
(01:25:21):
to stick together long term. Right now, of a sudden,
you go to the Warriors who just got embarrassed by
the Utah Jazz. You go in their locker room and
you're like, hey, Clay or Steph, what do you think
of Lebron possibly join you. It's a no win situation
because if you say we have no interest in Lebron James,
now a sudden like why would you have interests Lebron James?
If you say, sure, we have loved to have Lebron James,
(01:25:43):
we'd love to talk to him. That means you're open
to the possibility getting rid of Clay Thompson. I think
it puts the Warriors in a bad spot, but I
still don't think it has any possibility of happened. Look,
he to get him to go. Everybody's like, well, you
go to Houston. Let me explain why I don't think
Lebron James is going to Houston. Who is the m
v P candidate and by some people's estimation likely m
(01:26:05):
v P out of Houston. James Harden. James Harden wears
what kind of shoes Adidas? Now? To me and you,
it probably didn't matter, right, Like I just I don't
go into the store and all of a sudden, like, well,
you know, I was gonna buy a pair of Nikes,
but I saw James Harden now in a buy a
(01:26:25):
pair of Adidas. It's not how I roll. On the
other hand, um, Adidas is I don't know if they're
catching up to Nike, but they've had a great year.
They're actually second. They surpassed Jordan Brand. Jordan Brand was second,
Now Adidas is second. The last thing that Nike and
Lebron James wants to do is legitimized James Harden by
(01:26:47):
winning him a championship and playing alongside him. I don't
want to do that. You already have Kevin Durant fighting
the good fight against under Armour in in gold State
and under Armos had a tough or. I don't think
Lebron wants to elevate the profile of James Harden by
playing alongside James Harden. The second thing is it just
(01:27:10):
doesn't work in terms of with Houston the style. Uh,
it's a ball mover, not a ball stop proference. With
the exception of James Harden and everywhere Lebron is played,
he's had the ball in his hands. So why would
Golden State be floated if it's not a reality and
maybe a faint possibility. Well, look, everyone knows that the
(01:27:35):
Lakers want Lebron. That cleared out space for two pass
uh two max contracts, right and right now, Lebron doesn't
have the upper hand and negotiations, he doesn't have the
upper hand and there's no leverage there. There's no where
else you're gonna get. You go to the Clippers. They're
the Clippers. You're not gonna go to the Warriors because
(01:27:55):
that changes who the Warriors are and they don't really
need you to win a championship. You're not gonna go
to Houston because Mike D'Antoni doesn't preach defense. That's always
gonna be a hard fight. You have to get rid
of Trevor Reesa and Eric Gordon and oh yeah, by
the way, you're gonna elevate an Adidas spokesman like that
doesn't seem to work. And you can't stay in Cleveland
(01:28:17):
because that's a dysfunctional mess. They're getting worse, not better,
Like these are not good options. Seventies sixers. Yeah, maybe,
but Joel EMBIDI gonna stay healthy, do you trust? You know? Yeah,
all that J J J J J. Reddick money comes
off the you know, off the board. But they just
don't have the shooting around Lebron. That's a different way
of playing than he had normally playing. Like, there might
(01:28:38):
not be a better option than l A, but l
A is not perfect. LaVar ball is kind of a
paying the ass a. Lonzo ball doesn't appear to be
that great, nor is he healthy. Not playing last couple
a bunch of the last couple of games, brandon Ingram
probably not gonna be an All Star caliber player like
people hoped. Maybe their best prospect is Kyle Kuzma. And
oh yeah, by the way k CP can take is
(01:29:00):
called Pope's Wrapped by Rich Paul. That hasn't gone smooth.
And there's the thought that Lebron would love to have
one of his guys, like a David Fizdale as head coach.
Here's the thought that Lebron would like to hand pick
some of the guys on the Lakers. But if you're Lakers,
you're like right now, You're like, dude, you need us
more than we need you. But when you throw out
(01:29:20):
Golden State, when you leak the possibility of the Sixers,
you leak the possibility of the Rockets. What are you
trying to do? You're trying to say, hey man, we
can go all kinds of the places freedom, you know.
Great Popovich has a birthday tweeted out maybe san Antonio
he ain't going to play for san Antonio, get out
of here. San Antonio has been about the team, been
(01:29:42):
about sacrificing. He goes his guys aren't gonna get to
travel with the Spurs. They're not having that. It doesn't
fit the Lakers fit. So why would they float all
these ideas Because in order to get upper handback, or
at least even handing in the relationship and the potential
future between the Lakers and Lebron, Lebron's camp has to
(01:30:03):
put it out there like, hey, we got a bunch
of other options. The truth is they don't. The truth
is they don't. This is Lebron trying to convince us
he's got a royal flush when he really he's got
a pair of kings. Right. You're like looking, You're like,
(01:30:25):
hm hmm, what's he got there? Mm hm. You know.
It's a bad bluff, That's what it is. It's a
bad bluff. He ain't going to the Golden State Warriors.
That's not happening. It's not happening. Like Golden State Warriors
(01:30:46):
is strength and numbers, Like do do I think ultimately
Clay Thompson goes somewhere else? Yeah, I think Clay Thompson
could go to the Lakers. I think that trade could
potentially happen in the future. Um, I think you can
potentially go to the to the l A Clippers and
he's an l A guy like he would be the
first guy voted off the island. But they're not gonna
(01:31:06):
turn that into Lebron James and and completely shred the
whole team and put that and you know, Kevin Durant like,
I'm gonna take less money. Lebron could take less money.
So is there the possibility of it happening? Sure, there's
the possibility Lebron has a royal flush. He more likely
to have a pair or even King Ace High. What
(01:31:28):
do you got music? What about the idea that he
doesn't want to go to a team like the Warriors
because of the whole ring chaser thing that he's already
been accused of doing when he left to go to
Miami and what people are trying to use against Durrant
from even the Thunder to go to the Warriors. Well,
I think he's factor in at all. I'm sure it does.
It shouldn't, but I'm sure it does. Um. I just
(01:31:51):
I just don't see it happening. I when when when
there's when a solution appears to be of is and
it doesn't appear to be a perfect solution, you start
spit firing all different kinds of ideas. I just think
that's what this is. Uh, But do what? Yeah, like, look,
he would get crushed for ring chasing. They would say, like,
(01:32:11):
what you did is even worse than what Kevin Durant did. Right,
I don't think what Kevin Durant did was bad because
he hadn't won a championship and he hadn't been surrounded
by the right town. And look at how we looked.
We look differently at Kevin Durant now than we did
before he went to the Warriors. Just is because he
has more space to be himself. Um, but I think
he would I think that does factor in. Again, I
(01:32:34):
don't think it should. I just think the reality of
it is, the Warriors are gonna win. There, the Warriors
win their third championship in four years? Why do they
need Lebron James? Is there is there any shot if
you just put on your little tinfoil hat can go
conspiracy here? Uh, conspiracy theory NBA that Adam Silver would
give a call to the Warriors and be like you
(01:32:54):
cannot sign Lebron. That would bury the league. Well, look,
I don't think the reality is it would happen. I
think it would be bad. I think that would be
bad for the league. Then we'd reach the Then then
we'd reach the that's too many superstar players. Um, it
just wouldn't be that much fun. I just also don't
(01:33:14):
even know if it's a great idea, I don't need
I'm not sure they would be that much better, if
better at all, To be totally honestly, like, Lebron's awesome
and he's having a good year. But over the next
five years, it stands the reason Clay Thompson's gonna keep
getting better and Lebron James is not. Is Randy Moss

I plug on my phone? Yes? You can't. That's actually
how we got Tim Brown and his beautiful wife Cherie

We have we have we have plugs up here. Hall
of Famer Tim, Tim Brown and his wife Sharis joining
us on the Doug Gotli Show. How are you guys? Okay? So? Um?
How often dos he wear the jacket? Often? He's been
(01:35:24):
wearing it quite a bit lately. Yes, I can't say so.
I would walk around the why not though, like if
anybody else says, like, man, why are you were in
the jacket? Like are you in the profile? But I don't.
I have thought about it, but I know I try
not to do that. You know. Let me let me
ask you about the Hall of Fame. Interesting year. You've
(01:35:46):
got t o who obviously wants to be in the
numbers would tell you probably should be in. Randy Mosses
had had incredible curious first ballot. It's in Minnesota. That
might work for you, but you know, like so many
you guys had to wait. Yeah. Um, And so I'm
just wondering, like your thoughts on how it should go down,
and maybe then we'll get to how it will go down. Well,
(01:36:06):
you know the problem that we have is you know,
we can talk about the receivers, but then you have
to talk about the offensive. Linem me, you gotta talk
about the linebackers. You gotta talk about the safeties. You
gotta talk about And that's the problem is you know
the five or six, seven, eight guys who get in?
Who do you take off that list and put in
another guy for? You know? So, uh, everybody is deserving you.
(01:36:27):
You know what they told me is, hey, tim, once
you make the top fifteen, in our minds, we think
you are in the Hall of Fame. It's just a
matter of you going through the funnel at that particular point,
that to that particular point. So what what how long
does it take? Does it take two years, three years,
five years? For me, it took six years to get in,
so until it re it took eight years. Chris Carter
took five or six years. So it's it's it's that thing. Well,
(01:36:49):
I mean, who how can you say I'm better than
that guy and I should get in. So you just
gotta be patient, man, and know when that thing comes.
When it happens, you're not gonna even remember the way, Doug,
you don't even remember it. So tell me about those
first five years though we were those first five years
when you got the call that you didn't get in, Well,
thankfully I didn't get that. I wasn't in the room
to get the call, so I was out doing something,
(01:37:10):
playing golf or whatever, and I never got that call.
I just someone that you or who how was that?
A couple of times I did find out. I would
find out before him. Um. Tremika bettis Jerome's wife and
I always would text each other and she would know
ahead of time or something. Someone would she tell her.
(01:37:32):
She's like, we didn't get in. She's like, we didn't
get in, and then you know, we just would know,
and I would want to be the one to kind
of tell him. I didn't want him to have to
hear it from someone else. I think I could stop.
Can you tell us? How you tell him? Or is
this this is a state you know, he didn't happen.
It didn't happen. And then you know what, we try
to go and just you know, do something fun and
(01:37:53):
just encourage him and let me and what he always knew.
He knew he was going to get in. So it's
all about, yeah, you know when you go to the
honors have been and you look at the guys who
are on the stage. You know, I can't sit there
and go oh, well, he you know I should be
you know what I mean? You know that that's I
could I couldn't. I couldn't do that because you know,
then they're gonna be sitting there feeling when I'm feeling.
(01:38:15):
I've been Trophy and Hall of Fame. It's pretty pretty
There was only nine. There's only nine Heisman Hall of
Fame Trophy winners. Yeah, it's like, wow, that's special. If
only that super Bowl is against any other team, right,
and and any other team I was, I was there.
I was like, oh, anybody but them, any anybody but
(01:38:36):
anybody but them? Okay, So then when you did get
the call, did did did? Did you know that was coming?
And you actually the time I was in the room
and it wasn't a call as a knock at the door,
and uh so it's kind of a setup deal. Well
you know, but I didn't know, you know, I was
actually my way to the restroom, and uh so I
think my son answered the door and say, hey, Dad,
somebody's at the door. And it was big day, Baker,
(01:38:59):
and you know, put a big day Baker runs a
pro football Hall of Fame. He used to be the
He actually actually went to my high school as sons
uh sons went to my high school about testing high
school in southern California. And if you when you say
big day, Baker day, Baker wants out the sun the largest.
It's like remember that Jolly went at the joy Green Giant.
What's the what's the giant with it? Cuts down? The
(01:39:21):
cuts down? What was the old fable of the base? Huh? Yeah,
Jackie the Bean the giant from jack the Bean. So
you know when I opened the door, you know he
he he will come to the door and tell you
you didn't make it. Also, okay, you know, to give
me a grim reaper or he could be Satanta Claus.
But I saw like three cameras around him, and I
tell to myself, he bad not be here to tell me.
(01:39:44):
He had not be here to tell me, no, with
cameras around. So so he went into this long you know, Dave,
as an eloquent speaker, went into this long soliloquy. I
was like, Dave, I need like four or five words
out of you. That's is you are in the Hall
of Fame. That's all I need you to say. So
it's a das man, you know. And I said this
earlier that once he said those words to me, it's
(01:40:06):
like I couldn't remember what had happened to the previous
five years. Um, okay, I gotta actually have a question.
I've never asked you have had you on a bunch
and this is one that, Um, I don't want it
to come out wrong. You had some of the best
hands I've ever seen in football, right, I mean you
go back to when you were a kick returner, when
you first came out and go back to Notre Dame. Uh,
you were sure handed. Very early in your career, you
(01:40:27):
never had a problem in your hands. But late and
you're very late in your career started to have some drops.
And I'm just wondering, like, like I watched Dez Bryant
this year and does started to have some drops too?
Late in his career had started to have some drops.
It kind of goes counter to UM logic would be
that when you get older, When you get older, it's
(01:40:48):
the speed that goes is it the hands on the reaction,
It's not into that. It's the fact that you're thinking
about stuff that you shouldn't be thinking about uh, you know,
I mean when it was that accurate for for you,
I'm like, I'm not drying a two thousand and three,
my last year with the Raiders. All of a sudden,
now I had I had been the guy with with
the Raiders, right, Jerry comes in, I'm still the guy
(01:41:09):
that was Grooen's last year. The next year, you know,
they change it over Callahan, you know, so he changed
it over. Now Jerry is the guy, and I'm like, Okay,
it's here, right, so I'm cool. However, is there an
explanation for why I make the Pro Bowl one year?
And then I get up the motion so you can
somebody explain that? And then the following year I went
from the secondary to like the fourth of February and
(01:41:32):
then your heads, you can't. You can't figure that out,
absolutely absolutely, But that was accurate, Like like you never
dropped anything absolutely well, you know, I mean I didn't
drop a lot, but I did drop again. But but
let's get this straight. No, no, no, no, like like
I don't have the numbers in front, it doesn't matter,
like I'm saying like I'm saying, like your catch rate
and your catch radius was ridiculous. So for you to
(01:41:53):
go from dude he catches everything to a couple of drops,
You're like, dude, what like Jerry? Like Tim Brown? Did
they hedn't got anything? Yeah? No, it's and I was
just talking about this about a Mark Cooper. When you
when you have drops, it's not because bunch this year.
It's not because you can't catch the ball. It's because
you're thinking about stuff that you shouldn't be thinking about.
You know, why why am I the fourth read? You know?
(01:42:15):
And I'm wide open, we don't but the ball is here,
you know, So that's all it is, man, you know?
And uh I tell people all the time, that's what
your brain retires before before your body retires. Are you
uh uh? What was your reaction to Gruden coming back?
I thought it was awesome, unbelievable, incredible, whatever you want
to put it. From what are people missing? I think
(01:42:36):
you know there's what what what are people missing that
don't understand what he will bring to that organization? Look,
he turned rich again and into an m v P quarterback,
you know what I mean? You know it was a
year that went to Super Bowls and he wasn't there,
but um he was right the year before to the
Tuch Rule game. Absolutely, and the year before that too
when we lost the Baltimore because his shoulder got and
(01:42:57):
and here's what and forgive me for a second, tim
what people forget about Rich Cannon is Rich Cannon was
a particularly it was one of in Minnesota's actually drafted
a defensive back in Kansas City. And he became the
m v P of the NFL. And and you're I mean,
you're off. That's what that system can do for you.
But you gotta buy in. Well, that's what I think.
(01:43:17):
That's what the ten year, hundred million dollars is. It's
saying like, hey, guess what, fella either buy in the
year gone because this dude, we can't afford to get
rid of him, right, he's gonna be here, all right,
So you all gotta understand, you know, you're gonna do
things my way or literally you're gonna be out the house.
If I was young, what I would do. I wouldn't
sign anybody more than a two year contract. And I
was just trying to get the best out of everybody
for two years. If you play good, guess what we're
(01:43:39):
gonna We're gonna do another two years, we're gonna keep
this same moving. But I think what happens is you
give these guys these four or five year contracts. It's
fifty day, fifty nine million ills guarantee. I mean you know,
I mean, come on, bro Is somebody came in and say, Doug,
hey man, you're good. You know we got to eighteen
million illars guaranteed for the next three years. You know,
you know it's gonna be hard. How much are you
(01:44:01):
gonna bring it? There's no there's no question. Some guys
are wired to where you know, you and Jerry were
wired to where wouldn't matter, but not everybody. Everybody is
not everybody's wired that way. Um. We got to thank
the folks that k jewelers and if you're if you
will will post that pictures of the set. Um, let
me ask you about this is the Ring of Excellence
is special. It's very special. I mean, um, and for
(01:44:24):
somebody who hasn't seen it, it's the total diamond Waite
is one and three quarters carried, but there's just like
there's more two it than that. Definitely, it's so special.
It's a I think the buses on the side of it.
Tim's numbers engraved in the inside. Yeah, you know, the
shape of it is like you're looking down at a
football stadium. I mean the blue represents you know, strength
(01:44:45):
and you know, courage and integrity, character. I mean the
ring is incredible. And they also give the wives a
beautiful pinned it as well, you know, so it's just
very special. Yeah, I will say, like the Hall of
Fame ring is unique, but it doesn't doesn't match up
(01:45:06):
to your sweating ring. That's what Wait wait, that was
that part of the deals Like you're gonna read like
you gotta hook me up because because we can't have
a better ring. No, actually we did. Kay helped us
(01:45:26):
redesign our rings and we did we got new and
so keep a little black in his to represent his
his greater love. How he how's he doing? Like like
we we hear so many horror stories about former players.
He's always been a bright guy. He's always been a
guy who's really easy to talk with. Very post career. Yes,
he's doing amazing. I mean Tim has always just been
(01:45:48):
very focused and very health conscious. He doesn't eat that great,
but he's very healthy. And this the vice I think
you know one thing he's getting He's done home, ye,
Crush them, Crush them, crush he's doing yoga now I
have back in the I haven't done it lately, but
(01:46:10):
we need to do it all the time. Back in
the day. I've got I've gotten into this. I've got that.
It doesn't burn any more calories than regular yogas. It
doesn't matter, Like I like the idea of sweating. And
and here's the thing you talk about, Honor Palmers. We're
actually talking about this at dinner. We had a group
dinner last night and my wife saw me. She's like,
you don't drink enough water, right, y'all you drink is
our Palmers or or some sort of coffee prod. But
(01:46:31):
when I do the hot yoga, I just go through
hot pound water. So it naturally gets me, like generates me.
It's the non impact stuff is what you gotta do, right,
Like you had enough, big dude chow down tying trying
to hurt you. Definitely all right, stay on him, aren't that? Folks? Okay?
This is awesome, awesome stuff. Follow on Twitter at Kate
Jewelers to go to Kate dot com. The hashtag is

Tim Brown Duck Gotland show rolls on here at Fox
Sport Trait. Let's welcome in, Dan, buy or find out
(01:47:34):
what else is going on in the world of sports. Well, Doug,
remember yesterday there was a story here on Radio Row
there was an argument between a couple of radio hosts.
Well to cameraman actually got to shoving each other. Today
in Oakland, as the Warriors and the press there, we're
talking to Kevin Durant about rumors about Lebron James maybe
going to the Golden State Warriors. Just more of the
(01:47:55):
same going on in the world of media at Super
Bowl fifty two. Completely different story is things are pretty
calm as the Eagles met the media for the final time.
Today Patriots are about to do so, and for the
first time this week, the media will actually be able
to talk with Patriots tended Rob Gronkowski. That's because Gronkowski
has been cleared from concussion protocol and we'll play in
(01:48:16):
Super Bowl fifty two on Sunday against the Eagles. Good
news involving Steelers linebacker Ryan Schayes here he was discharged
from a rehab institute in Pittsburgh. He'll now go through
outpatient rehab following spinal surgery. Doctors did not update the
status on weather. She's here has been able to walk.
Histons forward Blake Griffin gonna make his team debut tonight
(01:48:37):
against the Memphis Grizzlies. Chris Paul expected to go for
the Rockets against the Spurs for dealing with a groin
names Riveno Eric Gordon tonight out with the sore Backlonzo
Ball gonna miss the final two games of the Lakers
road trip. He's dealing with a shoulder injury. Bull Is
finally sending Nicola Meratich to the hell Akins and Gore
and Draga chatted to the All Star Game as the
heat card replaces the injured Calves forward Kevin Love Doug
(01:49:00):
got the shorts on Fox Sports Radio. Ask conditions on
the field chain, So can your insurance needs? Talk with
the Farmers agent today so you can assess with your policies.
Game ready. Find an agent at Farmers dot com Farmers. Uh.
He is the architect of a team that last year
had just a litany of injuries and and and they
(01:49:22):
had to rebuild the offensive line and rebuild the offensive line.
Then they lose their quarterback in week two, they lose
their running back shortly thereafter. It was a first round
draft pick. And yet uh they got all the way
to the NFC Championship Game and nearly hosted the Super
Bowlie Rick Spielman, general manager of the Vikings, how are
you good? Thanks for having me. It's been a long
time since back at one of my old places where
(01:49:43):
you kind of try and hide from from all the
sports center people and eat your salad, and you teach
me about ball and about player acquisitions and like your
brother's ce ball, hit ball. Um. This was a This
has been a wild two years in in building a team,
considering all the injuries up front you had last year,
and then the skill position injuries you had on both
(01:50:04):
sides of the ball this year. And and don't forget
our head coach went through eight eye surgeries last year,
and we had a offensive coordinator stepped down and then
we had to replace the offensive coordinator. Another offensive coat
leaves and then you gotta even gotta replace him. But
that side of that, Mrs Lincoln, how was the shell. Well,
that's what makes us job exciting because of the challenges
(01:50:25):
and the curveballs to get thrown your way. And uh,
we're gonna have a lot of tough decisions and a
lot of key decisions to make going forward. But I
think going through all that adversity last year really brought
our locker room closer together. And when the hired coach
Zimmer and he came in as the leader of that
locker room and the leader of our football team. Uh,
there were specific traits that we were looking for in players,
(01:50:48):
not only their ability on the field, but the character
and which you saw as we went through that adversity,
that bond in that locker room actually got stronger. And
uh so when we had to go through the same
not as significant but some just like every team is
going to face adversity during the year, we were and
our players were able to overcome that and actually even
(01:51:09):
get stronger as we went through that. UM. I mean, like,
look are you the miracle play three weeks ago or
two and a half weeks ago is something that you
just it's a it's a once in a lifetime experience. Um.
How hard do you think it was to get kind
of back on track after the way that game ended?
(01:51:29):
You know, you talk about it and you want to
get back focused. And fortunately we probably didn't play our
best game of the season. We went to Philly, and
you have to be on top of your game, especially
in that type of game in that atmosphere. Um. But
you know, there was a stat out there that every
team that one like that on a walk off TD
were own six. There was a twenty four point differential
(01:51:49):
and score and minus eleven and the turnover ratio. So
but I think we will grow from that experience, and uh,
because that's something that you know, you maybe once in
a lifetime. Um. Hopefully we don't have to win games
like that court forward, but uh, I think this will
be a springboard for us scoring into the future. All Right,
there's the big question is quarterback, Right, you got three
(01:52:12):
of them that since nine o'clock this morning. I would
that I understand. But there's you have three of a
number under contract, and they each they each I mean,
like you know, when you do the you're gonna make
a big decision. You got the pros and the cons.
They each have a bunch on each side, right, Like
you know, Teddy is like considered one of the greatest
kids ever, right, and he was gonna be the starter.
(01:52:33):
He helped lead you to the playoffs early in his career,
devastating knee injury, and you you really don't know how
long you'll last. You got Sam who might have played
the best game of his career week one of the season,
right finally looked like a guy who was confident in
his body, confident in your system. And then but his
body lets him down. How much can you trust him
(01:52:53):
as a long term starter? And then you got Case
who kind of like it was kind of the mantra
for your team between Feeling and Digs and even Zimmer himself.
You know, guys that were undervalued by the league somehow
achieved something great here. So how do you go through
the decision that you make? We we we approach it
the same way every year and this will be a
(01:53:14):
major decision for us. And I told coach Zim, you know,
as we sat there and talked, I said, I'd rether
have this problem or option than not having any on
the roster. Uh. So we'll we'll we'll go through our process.
The number one thing we have to do right now
is higher an offensive coordinator because he'll have a big
part of that decision. Um. You know, we got to
figure out if we're going to continue to build on
(01:53:35):
the scheme that we had established under Pat Shermer, this officer.
You know, the past year and a half. I think
we went from tenth in the league. You know, Pat
did a great job adjusting his stuff that Norv did,
uh and then adding his own twists. So I think
once we get that offensive coordinator in place, understanding what
his schemes are, we're gonna have the same scheme. We're
gonna put a few new additions onto it and layer
(01:53:58):
on top what we're doing. Well, then that would give
us a little bit clearer direction on which way we
go with the quarterback. And you were able to find
you're able to kind of piecemeal the running game, but
you get Dalvin back, I mean, is a a spectacular talent.
So whoever walks in, you gotta figure out the quarterback
and how it fits, and you gotta figure out how
Dalvin in the running game fits with it correct, right,
(01:54:19):
and and you know we do you do you? I
guess the question is there's three ways to three ways
to hire an offensive coordinate, right, somebody that Zim knows, right,
Because you want to have familiarity, something that fits with
the personnel, or something that you think is the style
that will is the most trendy, and then you kind
of fit the personnel around it. What's your general preference?
(01:54:41):
You know that's that's going to be Coach Zimmer's decision. Uh,
you leave it all all to him. Yeah, he's got
the final say on the coaching staff. I'm there's to
simply help him gather information and be a sounding board
for them. And just like we do everything, just like
on the personnel side, we go back and forth and
and listen to all our options of positives and negatives
and make the best decision for the Minnesota Vikings. But
(01:55:04):
you know that's one of the things that as we're
going through this process. Um, you know the one thing
that Pat did was he never worked in Norwich system before,
so he learned that language and then he had a
little bit of West Coast to it this year, and
then some of the stuff he learned from Chip Kelly.
Uh So, whoever this new coordinator is, um, that's the
(01:55:25):
number one question work. That's the language that everybody knows,
right as the Chip Kelly kind of like, there's a
lot of language. There is a lot of dialection, like, man,
I don't even know what the hell they're talking about. It.
Is it the best thing for one person to come
in and learn a language or is it for that
person to know language and teach it to all the
coaches on the offensive side of the ball, and to
teach it to all the players. So those are decisions
(01:55:47):
that will have to make going forward. Here. It's a
crazy deal. Um. I've been to the stadium. I haven't
been for a game. Um, but that's the nicest football
stadium I've ever been to in my life. You'll have
to come up for a Minnesota Viking football game because
it's the most electric atmosphere in the NFL. And I've
had numerous general managers who have played in that building
and how loud that building. It's the atmosphere. I mean,
(01:56:09):
it's a beautiful building and I think it's the nicest
building in NFL right now. Um, but it's the atmosphere,
it's our fan base, it's it's it's nothing like it
when you walk out on that field and here that
school chant last thing. Um, you thought it was over right?
Like were you on the were you on the elevator
on the way down? Are you wait until the game? Game? Was? Actually?
I think I was just sitting there with tears in
(01:56:30):
my eyes like everybody else, trying to figure out what
we just saw and was it actually truly happening? Uh No,
But before the play, like you you you were still
sitting there. You're gonna wait till are you a wait
till all triple zeros before you go down downstairs? No?
I waited until open my little box to the very end.
It's crazy. Here's where we were. We were, We were
in front of front It's a moment where people will
(01:56:52):
remember where they were. And I was talking earlier on
a radio show and we were talking about Franco Harris
catch and the immaculate recet up Where and where were you?
And I was sitting with my brother and my dad
on our couch back and can't know how watching that game.
And I'll never forget that game as long as I
live because of how they won that game. The thing
that was brought up today was they went and lost
(01:57:14):
the next week after that, but that propelled them to
go into the Super Bowl run after that that that play,
I'll give you the quick the quick story so for people. So,
Rick has six kids and I I told what happened
was at halftime, Um, I went with my son to
go shoot hoops to the park down the street, and
I told my wife, you haven't given up the dream yet,
(01:57:35):
uh for for him to shoot stay so uh so,
and then he starts playing with friends and I'm like
and I'm watching it on my phone and my wife
meanwhile it's texting me like updates because the phone's a
little delayed or whatever. And I was like, you know,
I just I kind of wanted to come down to
a field goal because the Vikings need to get that
out of their system, makeup win on it, and then
(01:57:57):
you can fifty six yard field I'm like, all right,
there it is so uh my kids are all now
in front of the television and my wife and I
were getting ready to go out to dinner, and uh,
I think it was after the after the first incompletion.
I was like, man, it's gonna be really hard. They
don't know they don't have any timeouts. And she was
(01:58:17):
like asking me. She's like, well, they got plenty of time.
And look at the line, the lines right there. It's
like it's a little bit hard in that because you
got everybody knows you want to get out of bounds,
catch it inbounds. You just don't. You might not have
the time. And um so right before the play, my
wife decides it's over and we're not vikings. Fans were
ricks build and fans I'm we're kind of saying Bradford
(01:58:37):
fans were who's not a feeling fan? Like is that
the greatest story ever? Right? Like he's an NFL walk
on basically, I mean he'said he's basically, uh, what's it
in college? Preferred walk on? Right? Like, didn't you guys
tell him to come to the tryout? Yeah? Yeah, it
wasn't even We signed him after the draft, and I
wish I was that smart to say, hey, we should
sign his kid right after draft. He came into our
(01:58:58):
what we call our rookie mini camp, and we have
forty or fifty guys locally that we work out every year,
and we have three guys actually playing on our team
right now that we're liking Adam Feeland that we're walk
on and there were local kids. So I'm explaining all
this story to to my kids. My wife's like, all right,
check please, this thing's over, uh and the Saints are
gonna win. So she walks out of the room, and
(01:59:19):
then all of a sudden, it happens, and my kids
are running around going like literally going crazy. They can't
believe what they saw. And my way was like, what happened.
She's like half dressed in a towel, running out, and
I'm rewinding it back and then we're seeing the replay.
It was an amazing moment. I'm sad for you that
you couldn't be a home team hosting the Super Bowl,
but I'm happy for you and how you rebuilt this
(01:59:40):
this franchise in spite of all the injuries you guys
suffered over the past couple of years. Well, we're looking
forward to the future. I know we've moved on and
we've got a lot of decisions to make. We're gonna
make this roster even stronger and looking forward to the
uh the next season. All right, well, if you want
to announce who your next quarterback is on the Dug
Gotlip Show, we'll leave you our number. You know you can.
You don't have to have all these NFL guys break
the stre shooting where you're trying to throw the ball,
(02:00:01):
you're trying what which area you're trying to come back in? No, no, no,
not for me. I'm saying. I'm saying, if you want
to break instead of going through the you know, the
the schafters, the Morten sins, and they report it just
you know, Rick Spielman can report that Rick Spielman is
decided that such and such we will have a decision
on the quarterback before next season starts. Before next season. Sorry,

a great show. Who we had for you? And man,
it gets better tomorrow. He gets better tomorrow. Baker Mayfield
(02:01:07):
to join us. Jared golfskin and join us. Uh. kN
C g starting quarterback Pat Mahomes will be our guest tomorrow.
We'll have it to get a good night sleep. Man,
It's gonna be a big day tomorrow. Uh. In the meantime,
let's get to the press, the press. What do you
got for me going out with a bank tomorrow? We'll
(02:01:27):
try to do so today. Patriots Senator Rob Gronkowski speaking
with the media as we speak. Doug cleared from concussion protocol,
on track to play Sunday in Super Bowl fifty two.
That's about it. It's big news. You just practice. He's
been practicing all week, so not much of a surprise,
just cleared protocol. There was a press conference today with
the NFL Players Association Executive director to Morris Smith would
(02:01:50):
ask if the c b A would be extended. He
abruptly answered no, no, no, no, that it's not going
to happen. Likely there could be changes to the current
collective Bargaining Agreement, but the NFL p A representatives saying
it will be a long process. Yeah. Look, I I
had um an extended conversation with d Smith last night,
(02:02:11):
which actually delayed me to the dinner. That's that's what happened.
And I I love he and Georgia Tala good dudes
and really thoughtful and like He's like, you know, look
they wanted I was like, D, I guess we're gonna
have Thursay Night football for five years, Hunts on Fox
for five years. He's like, well, you know, like that's
all up for discussion. I was like, well, like they
got the money. I'm not really showed as much discussion there.
(02:02:32):
So look, this is huff and bluster, okay, And I
and I know that that he has he only has
the players, um best, Uh, what is it best best
interest at heart, but like, look, we kind of see
how this thing goes. Like the the they'll sit there
and go like we're gonna we're we're not going in,
(02:02:53):
We're gonna negotiate hardcore. But these guys need the money
more than the NFL owners are willing to lose the money.
So I just they're not. He was talking about cutting
it to fourteen games to me last night. I was like, dude,
they're not cutting the fourteen games. Well, where does the
money go? That's that's what I said, Like, they're not
gonna lose that, Like, yes they are. This is an
inventory business. You get, you're providing inventory. What happens the
(02:03:15):
games go away? He said, well, we'd expand the playoffs.
It's like, yeah, but what about all those other teams
that not involved in the playoffs that you know, his
math is different amount. Nobody wants to see a four
teen playoff field in the NFL. Thanks, but no thanks.
Uh Steelers linebacker Ryan Cheese here that I don't think
that was that funny, but apparently it was. Ryan chas
Here released on the hospital today, gonna be doing outpatient rehab.
(02:03:37):
Still no word if he could walk again. That was
not provided in the update. But Ryan Cha's here, it's
not providing the update. That means it's not the answer
that we all want. Let's just hope Rian Cheese here
walks again. Let alone plays football a game. Peckers quarterback
Hearin Rogers told Sporting News that he's right where he
needs to be as it returns from his broken collar
bonable he should be played in the prom yesterday at
the Waste Management Open But when it came to his
(02:03:58):
quarterbacks coach well l Van Pelt was dismissed by the Packers.
He called it an interesting decision and says it was
interesting they did not consult him on that decision. Yeah,
and remember this is a year in which they can
renegotiate his contract. Um uh. He makes twenty two million
dollars in the terms of his recent contract, fifty four
(02:04:19):
million guaranteed. Obviously he's gonna get he's about to get paid,
and uh uh. You want to keep him happy. On
the other hand, you need to find a guy that's
going to push him to excel and yet keep him
happy at the same time. That's a really hard thing
to do for a guy who's as bright and challenging
as Aaron Rodgers is backing out there and pressed that
the press buyer, you know the Bucks are in town,
(02:04:41):
you're going, Yes, you are good seats Um, we don't
know yet. Hopefully hopefully no Eric bledso he'll have the
best seat in the House on the bench. We'll report
back tomorrow
