Got John Middle Coops? Canna enjoin me? We got Barry Sanders,
the greatest running back of all time. Tcho Hush Benzada.
I want to start though with the one person under
the most pressure, this divisional playoff weekend. Boom Up America.
Doug Gotleap Show, Fox Sports Radio. Man. I hope you're

(00:49):
having a great day. You're getting ready for a great weekend.
The Doug got Lip Show is brought to you by
Farmers Insurance. Who knows they know a thing or two
about how to save a buck or two when you
bundle home in auto. So if as the Farmers dot
Com are called one Farmers and get a quote today,
some might say this weekend is about Aaron Rodgers. The

(01:11):
Seahawks are depleted. They played last week. The Packers are
healthy and they're at home. There's so much snow in
Green Bay that they put out an ap B for
anyone with a shovel to come and help shovel snow.
This is a quick aside. The Green Bay Packers are
kind of a sad organization. Not sad in the traditional sense,

(01:35):
but it is a little bit sad that they've done
this thing too uh to the locals time and again.
You know, the green Bay Packers are owned by packer fans. Yeah,
you give a couple hundred bucks, you get a certificate,
and on your own dime, you can fly in and
go to one of these meetings once a year. Doesn't

(01:58):
help you get season tickets, you never get dividends. You
win a Super Bowl, you don't get a ring. This
is essentially walking into a party and somebody says we're
going on a beer run. You give him a fiber.

(02:18):
They go out and get a couple of cases of beer.
They bring it back and you're like, hey, can I
get one? Like, no, but I'll tell you what you
can do. Tell everybody you're at this party. Here's a certificate.
So of course though they're making money hand over fist,
even though they're in the smallest market in all of

(02:41):
Major league professional sports. They actually put out an a
p B for people to come in and volunteer their
time in the cold and shovel the snow. This really
happens in America. And guess what else Packer fans really
do it. I don't they get paid. I think you'd

(03:01):
have to look it up. I think this is a
volunteer deal. Anyway. Some might say this weekend's about Aaron Rodgers.
Sure he could win another Super Bowl, but he's already
won one, and this weekend doesn't win him a super Bowl.
It would simply haven't beat Russell Wilson, his own personal

(03:24):
rival who he doesn't like. We lost you in the playoffs.
He lost in that Remember that crazy Monday night football
game which ended the the lockout and strike of the referees.
It's his rival, it's his nemesis. Aaron Rodgers needs to
win this weekend, but it's not like it destroys his career.

(03:47):
About Jimmy g number one seed in the NFC, you know,
taken on Kirk Cousins and when things go wrong with
the offense, when things go wrong with the offense of
the Niners. People will don't point out Kyle Shanahan, because
Kyle Shanahan's an offensive wizard. Problems become that of Garoppolo.
But garoppolos in his first playoff appearance. Many have failed

(04:09):
in their first playoff appearance, even at home. And as
much as we like to think of them as dominant
based upon their record, look if the Seahawks had any
clue what they were doing late in Week seventeen, they're
the two seed in the playoffs. What about Russell Wilson
similar Rodgers. I guess we would say something about his legacy,

(04:32):
but they're down to it would be their fourth running back.
They just got Marshall lynchopped the couch. Their wide receiving
corps has never been impressive, especially without its top threads
out for the year. They're on the road in Green Bay,
they're depleted. They played last week. Everybody still thinks Russell
Wilson's a wizard. Then they're the Chiefs. Pat Mahomes didn't

(04:55):
play great last year, but played good enough to win.
But Mahomes is gonna sign the biggest contract in the
history of the sport. What about the Chiefs and Andy Reid.
Last three years in a row, they've lost at home
in the playoffs, and of course the year before that
was the biggest collapse in the history of the a
f C when they had a thirty one point lead
an Indie and succumbed to the Colts. Pat ma Homes

(05:18):
is gonna sign for forty million dollars a year, not
total a year, He's going to literally break the bank.
But you have arguably the best home crowd in all
of professional sports. That's what Kansas City is. Unbelievable home

(05:40):
field advantage. You have weather that plays in your factor
into your hands. Remember Pat Mahomes in his one snow
game earlier this year played great, and there's that audio
of him saying, I think I'm a snow game snow
snow game. Quarterback speed generally is at firstly effecting the
defensive side by snow more still in the offense, and

(06:03):
nobody has more offensive speed than the Kansas City Chiefs.
You have the best quarterback with the best arm, playing
at home against team that played last week, with a
great crowd and great talent, and a coach and coaching
staff who's well respected. But this has been their m

(06:24):
O in Kansas City, losing early. What if I told
you that this week's pressure was mostly on Andy Reid? Right,
the most amount of pressure is on Andy Reid. Now,
it doesn't mean that he gets to go out and
throw footballs or play quarterback like he did in the
punt passing kick video where he looks like the Jolly

(06:45):
Green Giant, well, the Jolly Rams Giant. But here's the
guy who's been accused several times over of getting a
lead in the playoff game and getting super conservative. And
you have this unbelievable weapon, right, like the Pat Mahomes
the type of weapon that the New Empire seems to

(07:06):
have in the new Star Wars. Oops, was that a
spoiler alert? Look, if you're in the Star Wars, you've
already seen it. Let's just be honest. There's not anybody
out there like I'm super into Star Wars. When's it
come out? We're like on three or four weeks now, Like,
if you haven't seen it, doesn't mean you're not gonna
go see it. But please don't tell me you're in
the Star Wars you have an unreal weapon playing at home?

(07:34):
You lost last year and offside call, which is a
good call, but it was you detonated yourself a little bit.
Your defense is improved. You're not taking on a great
team right name wise they have great quarterback, great wide receiver,
great defensive player. The reality is Houston could have been

(07:56):
beaten at home last week by the Bills. It was
that close. There is no reason at all that Kansas
City should be challenged in this game, with exception of
Andy Reid doing what Andy Reid does, which is get
a lead and then get super tight and allow yourself
the opportunity to be beaten, which the last three years

(08:17):
has happened at home and four years ago, including when
they had the thirty one point lead in Indie in
two thousand fourteen. Andy Reid could become Marty Schottenheimer, I
know he went to a support once, or I mean,
at some point could have become Mark Jackson, where you're like,

(08:39):
look great to a point, right to a point, we
need somebody else to get over that hump. The Patriots
aren't involved. The Ravens are a team you've already beaten,
the Texans of a team you've lost to you now
you're at full health and they are not. Andy Reid

(09:02):
has an elite quarterback. And remember when Andrew Luck was
an indie. What did Jim Er say? Their owners say
about Andrew Luck. We don't want to screw it up
and only win one super Bowl. You have a quarterback
that's this talent. First, you gotta get to a super Bowl,
but then the idea is we gotta get to multiple
super Bowls. He's that good. He is that good. And
I don't think the pressure is on the Homes because

(09:23):
of his age. I think the pressure is is squarely
on Andy Reid because of his experience, and because most
of that experience is bad in the playoffs, especially in
Kansas City. It looks like the Browns might found found
their head coach. I'll tell you why. I could be
a home run. Well, I could be a disaster. We'll

(09:44):
go at that next. Be sure to catch the live
edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m.
Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio WAP This from Ian Rappaport. This is an
important detail for today's interview with Patriots offensive cordner Josh
McDaniels with the Browns. His wife Laura is on the trip.

(10:05):
It is possible. If all goes well, Cleveland could close
it out today. All the pieces are in place, but
a big decision looms for the Browns. I also would
say for Josh McDaniels as well. Right we we act
like this is a one way street. It's not. Josh McDaniels,
of course, is previously agreed to terms with a team

(10:28):
this is the Colts, two years ago, and then change
his mind. So I'm guessing at least a portion of
it is Yeah, sure, Josh, you you you will. We
want to do an interview, but you better bring your
wife and you know we're not letting you out of
town if if in fact, you do agree to terms. Yeah,

(10:50):
I don't think they have to go Clippers DeAndre Jordan's
because frankly, if he changed his mind this time, he'd
never get another job ever, ever, ever, I really never.
But I do think there'll be some caution with it.
I feel like this could be an absolute home run.

(11:11):
If you remember the Patriots like Baker Mayfield coming out Now,
a lot of people like Baker Mayfield. And they might
not have like the number one overall, but they like
Baker Mayfield. Baker Baker Mayfield intellectually has uh has a
high football i Q. And you're not gonna play for
Josh mc daniels unless you have a high football acute.

(11:33):
Should also be pointed out that Josh McDaniels, like first
day on the job when he was in Denver, he
got rid of Jay Cutler, who was a polarizing figure,
first when he was in Denver and then when he
was in Chicago, and frankly when he was in Miami
as well. My guys just run hot and cold with him.
So it's not out of the realm of possibility that

(11:54):
he walks in and goes hey, first order businesses. I'm
getting rid of Baker Mayfield. But the likelihood is if
you listen to Jimmy has them. He doesn't think Baker's
the problem. He thinks Baker's a solution. And some of
this is, Look, you're not walking in with some talent,
you're walking in with power. The only way they got

(12:16):
this interview, the only way was by getting rid of
John Dorsey. And it doesn't mean that Josh McGoun Josh
McDaniels thinks that John Dorsey's a complete idiot. It just
means he wants his own guy there. Everybody wants what
Sean McDermott has. Sean McDermott came into Buffalo from Carolina,

(12:37):
brought Brandon Brandon Bean eventually with him, and together they've
gotten them in the playoffs two of the last three years.
And so if you're Josh mcdanien's're sitting there going like, look,
I work for a great organization and make a ton
of money. I can coach Tom Brady until I'm blue
in the face. I don't have to leave. If I'm

(12:58):
gonna leave, I gotta have our The problem with absolute
power is it corrupts that absolutely. Have you ever heard
the expression absolute power corrupts absolutely? And if we look
back on McDaniels, he was the one who decided, you know,
to draft Tim Tebow. He was the one who was

(13:20):
seen as way too arrogant, thought he knew everything. Now
we think we think he's learned from that. We think,
but I mean, look, you're Josh mcdanie's just sitting there
going how many championships have I been a part of?
Whereas this team has only made the playoffs once since

(13:42):
it came back to existence in I think I know
a little bit more than everybody else, but so does
Baker Mayfield, right, and that could be a very interesting dynamic.
They get along like best friends, or they could be
arch enemies and you could jettison him and then you

(14:05):
you know, roll the dice and try and get into
the draft and try and land the next guy in
the draft. Don't get me wrong. Mc daniels has been
outstanding his partnership with Tom Brady. But he is partnering
with Tom Brady. Right. That's like, Um, did you see J. J. Watts?

(14:25):
And I got to make sure that I get his
girlfriend's name right? Sorry? Fiance? What fiance? Fiance? Sorry, that's
that's Seinfeld. Um. So J. J. Watt is gonna get
married his fiance apparently. Um, she get traded, now what happened?

(14:50):
She got traded in soccer? Okay, so what's funny about it?
What is her name? Just just for the record, you know, um,
his fiance. There's an article in one of the on
one there's there's a little piece in one of the
Houston papers on the fact that she had been traded,

(15:11):
and you know, he got super mad, like this is sexism,
this is not professional And there's a way in which
the headline could have been written differently. But the fact is,
when I tell you her name, you're not gonna know
who it is, are you. Her name is Kaylee kayleea Ohi.

(15:35):
Kayleea Ohi is a super talented professional soccer player who
apparently was traded earlier this week. It was announced on
Houston television and he's like, dad lacks professionalism. Here's the thing.
It doesn't make her any less successful as a soccer player.
But that probably doesn't get that, probably is not on

(15:59):
the nightly use, that's probably not in the local sports
unless she's engaged to be married to J. J. Watt. Right,
I don't make up the rules. I don't know Houston
and how big women's professional soccer is. I didn't know
that women's Professional soccer had a team in Houston, nor
did I know that their trading players. Anyway, my point

(16:23):
is this, it's a huge risk. You can't be bad
twice and the last time he had power, he used
that power and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
Has he learned from him the mistakes? We don't know.
Everybody can say they can, but we don't know. Because
he worked with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, could be
the best could be the worst feels like it's gonna happen.

(16:47):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific.
Doug gotlip show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, Barry
Sanders joints us now he is I think in arguably
the greatest running back of all time, not just because
we share an Albu motor, because I thought that when

(17:08):
I was a kid kind of to spend some time
here on Fox Sports Radio, Barry, it it felt like
over the last five years there has been kind of, um,
a minimalization of the running back position financially and maybe
in game plans that seems to have changed. Why do
you think that is? Why do you think that running

(17:30):
the football is so much more in vogue now as
it was over the past couple of years? The great
talking to you, Um, you know, I always thought that
things would move in cycles. Um. And and when they
started changing the rules to protect the quarterback, obviously that
helped the passing game and mentally, um, and I always

(17:51):
knew running back with a just um you know, and
and even and even then when the league was being
passed crazy, Um, you still saw guys like Marshawn Mansion,
Adan Peterson putting the you know, respectable numbers, um you know,
but uh, but yeah, I just I just think that
that um a good solid running game obviously, you know,

(18:15):
it's that's that's that's always been a hallmark of good
teams throughout the history of the game. Um, you know,
and and good teams um in in our in our
time or learning learning that and and uh and using
that on game day, and so you know, I think
that's kind of what what it has to do with. Yeah.

(18:37):
I also I would say some of it and you
tell me because your football i Q is off the
charts in comparison to to mind. Um, some of it
is these defenses are designed. You know a lot of
people were playing a ton of nickel and even the
even the linebackers. It's more about speed in terms than
than run stopping. And in other words, when the defenses

(18:58):
started to zig, the offenses started a zag. Is that
is that a fair way to look at it? Yeah,
I think that's fair. I think that's fair. I also
I also think, um, you know, along with that point,
you know, you're kind of playing into the defensive hands
a lot of times, Um, when you drop back and
pass a ton of times. I think just mentally psychologically,

(19:20):
the guys they would much rather, they would much rather pass,
um defend and rush the pastor and have to defend
the run. They didn't have to defend a really good,
solid run team coming off the ball, you know, Um
coming downhill, looking in the eyes, saying we're gonna hit
you, you you know, score in the mouth. I think I

(19:41):
think defense was much rather um Pender's back chase the
quarterback Barry Sanders joining us on the doug Otlup Show
on Fox Sports Radio. When when we watch highlights of
you make plays, you embarrass defensive players, Right, there's guys
that are diving at your feet and between the up
cuts and spins, there's some moments which now they would

(20:04):
have gone viral. That's the kind of stuff we see
from Lamar Jackson, right. Obviously a different position, but it's
the same type of elusiveness as well as speed and
explosiveness when you're in the process, when you're when you're
making those runs, when you're making those cuts, do you
see the guys falling? Like are you watching it like
in slow motion? Like damn, I just got a guy
or is it or you too focused on trying to

(20:27):
get to the end zone and not get hit. Well,
in my case, I feel I guess the ladder, I
was much more just focused because no matter what you do,
when you got the ball in your hand, there's another
guy coming. Um, you know, there's another guy coming to
get you in. And you know. It was always a
a fun challenge for me because you know, I was

(20:50):
one of the smallest guys in the field, but I
was like the biggest target, you know, and so and
so I always felt like I had to be aware,
um and just focused and and understanding that you know,
for those four quarters they're coming to get me. Um.
And I had to do what I could to to Uh.

(21:11):
I guess I could almost say survived. Um, you know,
but but um it was. It was nothing I love
more than running the football. Growing up being a football
fan and watching all the great running backs play this game.
UM that that just inspired me. UM, whether it's pro
or college running backs that I followed and tried to imitate.

(21:32):
Um and uh. Fortunately, as I got older, I was
able to do a pretty good invitation of some of
my favorite running backs. Who are you? Who are you?
Imitating Gale Stairs, well, Gails Loot before me. Now now
you see, now you're trying to call me, you know,
not now you're trying to call me really really old.
But but growing up. So I'm thinking growing up, this
is the seventies. I grew up in the seventies, so

(21:56):
and my dad, my dad was a huge old almost
Sooner fan. So I watched all the great oh you
Sooner running backs. Um, think of the think of the
early seventies, think of guys like Kerry Matcalf, think of um,
think of obviously Walter Payton, O j was there. I
think of Tony Dorset. Um, think of guys like Joe Delaney. Um,
I mean all these you know, and so Joe Washington,

(22:18):
Greg Pruitz. I mean, you know, the list goes on.
But I just love watching running back you know, think
about all the great USC running backs, Marcus Allen, Charles White,
Anthony Davis. So for me, um, just watching it was
the thing of beauty watching running backs play, and and um,
you know, Marcus Allen was just one of my favorites,
you know, that was my That was my sort of

(22:39):
formative years of watching football middle school, high school, Uh,
and seeing Marcus run for two thousand yards. So anyway, Um,
so yeah, that's that's kind of what I'm referring to,
you know, I mean Marcus and who can forget uh,
you know, the run against the Redskins obviously probably the
most in the Super Bowl. Yeah, maybe the most maybe
the most iconic run in the Super Bowl. I'm trying

(22:59):
to think, you know, I got fifty years to choose from,
but that that one, that one is that's my childhood
growing up in southern California. Barry Sanders our guests again
against the redskin team that they were. They were supposed
to not have a chance against, you know, but I
don't know if you remember that invincible they you know
that the Raiders had no chance supposedly, and for him

(23:21):
to make that run, um, you know, it was just
just brought me out of my seat and I would
I'm with you, man, that's one of my favorite memories
ever of NFL football. Derrick Henry is six ft three,
two hundred and forty pounds. Now, as you said, you
were one of the smallest guys in the biggest target.
You know, you're in the five nine sort of category,

(23:43):
right in two hundred or nine all right, fair, give
that's all right. I'm six one of your five nine,
then we're good. So so you're five. He's six three,
two hundred forty some odd pounds. There There is no
He is the antithesis of you as a running back.
When you see Derrick Henry and what he's doing in
the modern day NFL, what do you think, Well, it

(24:07):
just hats off to Derek. Um. You know the Titans
were going in and and beating the champions. First off,
that was a great game. And um, I think it's
it's just as big of a deal as for me.
You know, had it been Drew Brees going in beating
Tom Brady, that was that was you know, Derrick Henry

(24:27):
hitting Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. But uh, you know Derek, Um, Wow,
just a phenomenal year. Uh to see how he's progressed
every year. Um, to see him this year lead to
league and rushing, Um, you know, just just phenomenal, man.
And you'd love to see running backs come on like
that get better every year. UM, kind of figure the

(24:49):
game out. Um. You know, and and um you know
that team is righting on his shoulders. UM. And you know,
again the phenomenal game he had last weekend, putting them,
um one step closer to the super Bowl. And you
know they've been writting all year. I mean, and it's
a great team obviously, but but but no, I'm happy

(25:10):
to see that and really through it as a running back.
Barry Sanders join us in the Doug Otlips Show on
Fox on Fox Sports Radio. Uh. Tom Brady doesn't seem
like he wants to walk away now. Obviously the positions
different where he is in his career is different. People
forget that you don't even walked away, but you walked away.
You would have been the all time Russian leader had

(25:30):
you played probably another season, season and a half and
you you walked away. What what is that like to
to to walk away? How? I mean, take me through
the process then and how it feels now in terms
of saying, I'm okay if my football career ends today. Well,

(25:50):
it was a tough decision, um, and I was torn. Um,
I was really torn. But I knew that just that
drive to continue to play, UM, that fire that that
um really UM where I had to play. Uh, you
know I knew that was gone and after year ten

(26:14):
and so I don't think obviously I don't think I
would have gotten there had I not had a career
that I had. Um, you know, I mean there was
nothing left to do other than playing the super Bowl,
which that would have been great. But but I knew
for me, and it's a it's a very personal decision,
and it was a difficult decision. Um and uh and

(26:36):
one that you know, I just knew that. Man. It
was just it was just really really um something that
I went back and forth on. But I do's something
I understood. Okay, it's time, it's time to go. You know,
I had my fund. His decision is like the opposite
of yours, kind of right, Your your decision was made
a little bit easier because the organization you played for

(26:57):
just couldn't put a good enough team around you. Right, So,
so as good, no matter how good you were, there
was always the shortcomings of the Honolulu Blue, right, it
just was. Whereas for Brady, you know, no matter no
matter of his shortcomings, how even there's still that organization
finds the way to allow him to be competitive and
maybe the division to get in the playoffs. So there

(27:20):
are some kind of opposite not just in terms of
what he's been able to achieve um by getting in
the super Bowl, but also the organizational support and and
that that that does change your decision, doesn't it? Absolutely?
Absolutely yeah, I was. I wasn't coming off any couple
Bowl victories that we didn't have any Hoobowl opportunities in
the foreseitable future um for for Tom UM. You know,

(27:43):
I would think that they could come to some sort
of terms, those three men could get in the room
and figure something out, UM that if he still wants
to play. I don't, I don't. He may not be
in his prime, but he's certainly not a liability in
my eyes. You know, I don't. I don't. You know,
I haven't analyzed that that closely, but I would think
that it's still worked it um for him to be

(28:03):
out there and uh at least for another year or
two UM and less unless unless they know something I don't, UM,
you know, because he's still such an asset to the
game and such an asset to his team. UM. I mean,
can you imagine just the influence he has on his
teammates and fellow offensive players and and the way he

(28:23):
goes about his business. Um, He's just it's just too
much of a benefit um to have him around. Um,
so I'm I'm assuming that they'll they'll figure something out.
They just gotta work out the details. Um, you know,
but you know that that's just kind of my perspective.
Barry standers joining us behalf of Rocket Mortgage and their
free Super bowls Squares sweep steaks. The greatest running back

(28:45):
of all time. But Barry so so to tell me
how I get involved in these sweepstakes even go to
Rocket Mortgage squares dot com. Um, Rocket Mortgage Super Bowl
Squares Sweepstakes. Basically, you got a chance to in fifty
thousand dollars every time the score changes during the game.
I mean, how amazing is that? So so um, we're

(29:06):
hoping for a high scoring game. Um, you know, but
fifty thousand dollars can go towards you know, um, you know,
a new home. Um, you know what have you? Rocket
Morrigin Mickel Rocket Morries will walk you through that. Two
lucky winners will win half a million dollars as well.
You know. So it's the largest, the world's biggest Super
Bowl squares. Um. Again, you can go to Rocket Morriget

(29:28):
squares dot com, Rocket Morgant squares dot com learn more
about it. You don't have to know anything about the game. Um,
it's free to enter. That's like one of the best
parts about it. Um, it's free to enter. So uh
so yeah, I mean it's gonna be a great super Bowl.
We're hoping for a lot of points. Like I said before,
every time the score changes, a lucky winner can contentually

(29:49):
win fifty dollars um, as well as two winners will
win half a million dollars. So um. Rocket Mortgage Squares
dot com is where you can learn more about that.
We're going to see you down in Miami. I'll be there.
I'll be there absolutely so we we can't wait to
see it. Barry, thanks so much of your time. Enjoy
the football this weekend and really love your perspective. Thanks
for catching up. Thankfully, happy man. That's Barry Sanders, the

(30:11):
greatest running back that has ever lived. Which quarterback? We'll
have a breakout performance in the playoffs this weekend, I'll
tell you next. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports

Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio. It is really interesting

(30:34):
as Barry Sanders joined us moments ago, he's talking about
all the great running backs he watched growing up, and
I was just thinking about, um, you know, about how
every team had felt felt like at least every team
had a running back right back then every team had
a running back that you liked. And you know, Dan
Buyer is going to join us in a second with

(30:54):
with game time. And of course Dan was a Seahawk
fan growing up in Wisconsin. They had a un back
Kurt Warner. Remember Kurt Warner. Like everybody thinks Kurt Warner.
Now you have Kurt Warner, you know, super Bowl Champion,
Hall of Fame or quarterback. But Kurt Warner was at
once upon a time, a different Kurt Warners are running
back for the Seahawks. He and Steve Largent that one

(31:15):
bar face mask. Every team had a running back. For
my money, Barry Sanders was the best of all of them.
Let's get to a game bag. This is game time
on the Doug Gottlieb Show, like when we're kids, Dan,
Eric Dickerson, Roger Craig, Kurt Warner. I mean, I have

(31:38):
Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Um, Dave Megatt. Remember Dave Meggett
of the Giants, Dave maggotty, were you a big Kurt
Warner guy? Kurt Warner? I did like Kurt Warner, but
great season and eighty three blew out his knee and

(31:58):
eight four came back and she was was was really
good for a while, but the knee just you know,
ends up not holding up. Even after that. I did
like Kurt Warner was you know, Dave Craig was obviously
the guy, and Steve Largent, but yeah, he was good.
I watched the old Seahawk clips like an eighties six
even after the knee injury. Kurt Warner was a tough,

(32:19):
tough guy to bring down fast as well. Number twenty.
They actually the Seahawks for as bad as their history was.
They they had Kurt Warner. Then they had like Derek
Fenner had like this crazy year one year. Chris Warren
was good for them for for a few seasons as well,
and then Sean Alexander obviously kind of set the highest
mark of Seahawk running backs. But I digress Seahawks. They

(32:42):
don't have a running game this year, so I love
to rely on Russell Wilson's armored legs. All right, the
game we're playing today is psychic, alright, psychic Who will
have more passing yards tomorrow? Ryan Tanney Hill or Lamar Jackson,
Danny Hill? When I had like seventy two against the
Page three, it's uh, Danniell Lamar Jackson. I'm gonna say.

(33:09):
I'm gonna say Tannehill. He's gonna be forced to throw
the football, right, gonna be forced to throw the football.
And he's been really good in play action. Lamar Jackson.
You say yardage, correct? Yeah, Lamar Jackson is not a
big yardage guy. He's obviously been very, very good in
the red zone, throwing ton of touchdown passes, but not
a big yardage guy. All right. Kind of along those
same lines. Who will have more rushing yards tomorrow? Derrick

(33:29):
Henry or Lamar Jackson? Oh, good question, I think Lamar Jackson.
I'm really concerned about Ingram's calf. I know that they've
got you know, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill, but Ingram's calf.
I the limited practice on Thursday, I think it's gonna
be a heavy dose of Lamar Jackson against those Titans.

(33:51):
I tend to agree, all right, Psychic h I try
to step by the way. I try to for just
for the for the audience and for those listening. You're
gonna make your picks later, so I try to stay
away from my make Yeah. Yeah, so psychic. Last week,
we only had one three hundred yard passer in the
four games of the playoffs. Will we have more than
that in the divisional playoffs? Are question? Yes we will
have more than that? Yes answer yes, Yeah, I think

(34:13):
so too. I think we could see some points, especially
in that Houston, Kansas city that was that Those are
actually the two that I thought most. And then I
wouldn't be surprised if we saw one in in Green Bay,
and I wouldn't be surprised if we I know they
run the ball town. I wouldn't be surprised we sell
one in San Francisco. Last week, Russell Wilson was the
only three hundred yard passer. Derrick Henry was the only

(34:35):
one yard rusher last week. Will we have more than
that this week? Uh? One yard rushers? Yes, yes, we'll
have we will have. I believe we'll have at least two. Alright,
I'm not counting Derrick Henry. Psychic will Josh McDaniels be
the next head coach of the Cleveland brown Yes, yes,
you bring your wife along at super seriously, otherwise you're like, well,

(34:58):
anybody's wife. It's kind of weird. That is uh, that
is very true. Did you have to add something or
on this or the This just came out. I think
it like in the past two minutes. He didn't turn
it down. Ian Rappaport three months ago. The Browns are
committed to their process and taking their time with the
coaching search. To that end, no firm decision is expected today.

(35:19):
Despite McDaniels and his wife being in the building, the
search rolls on. I we'll have time. I have a
I have a thought here on the wife thing that
I think is going to explain it to everybody, Okay.
The Boston Global reported that it was Donald McDaniels, Brian
day Bole and Kevin Stefanski. So it's not really down

(35:40):
to anybody. So it's down to three guys. That's not
really down to anybody. Sorry, psychic who ends up winning
And I used quotation marks for that. The Russell Westbrook
Chris Paul trade between the Thunder and the Rockets. We
know that the Thunder won the game last night. But
who ends up winning that trade? Winning that trade? Um?

(36:06):
I yeah, yeah, what I think the Thunder win the trade.
Now they only have Chris Paul. They have Chris Paul
for less one less year. Um, they're both both those.
Chris Paul's deal is gonna be hard to move. Everybody thought, well,
they just flip it and move it. But I do
think that Chris Paul will age well, even if he
won't be a superstar, because you know, he can play

(36:29):
with Shay Gilds Alexander, you know, he can play off
the basketball. He's a better defender, and I almost feel
like he's a little bit more resigned to his fate
than Russell Westbrook. Alright, finally, psychic. Another NBA related questions.
Steph Curry is going to make the trip to l
A with the Warriors tonight as they face the Clippers.

(36:51):
He's been doing more work in practice, but still will
be reevaluated on February one. Will Steph Curry play a
game this season for the Warriors? US? Yes, he'll play
sporadically here down the stretch. This is game time on
the Duck Gottlieb Show. I just had a really good

(37:14):
thought when I'm gonna do buyer is known as teasing ahead.
I think I know why Josh McDaniel's wife is there.
I think I know, But I I can stretch it
out a lot longer than than one minute, right, yes,

(37:35):
Ryan Music, well to assist you, Oh, don't give it away,
but no, no, no, no no, no, no no, I'm gonna
allow us to discuss something else to finish out the
hour here. Our friends on Twitter have pointed out that
the fans at lambeau Field and you get twelve dollars
an hour, and you will be paid immediately upon completion

(37:57):
of your work. If you're being paid immediately, I would
have to imagine it's cash. Can you get away with that?
You get a hot chocolate as well, and a big
block of cheese, and they can get cheese whenever they
want a beer and a beer and a beer gold beer.
It's gonna be a cold beer. Right? Would you do
it for twelve bucks an hour? I think I would

(38:20):
just to say you do it like the game's on Fox.
If Fox said, like, hey, Godlief, you wanna fly out Saturday?
I do a game in Albuquerque tomorrow. You wanna fly
and then go and Sunday morning. Wake up. You're in
Green Bay. I'll give you a ticket to the game
if you'll shovel some stuff like yeah, I do that.
I mean any gloves. That is hard work. That's a
good workout, that's a really good workout. All right, I

(38:44):
know why Josh McDaniel's wife is there. I'll explain next
to The Doug Gotlip Show. Be sure to catch the
live edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three
p m. Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the Heart Radio Whip. What Up to Gottlieb Show, Fox
Sports Radio. I'm gonna explain to you why I think

(39:07):
the Ravens the time is now for the Ravens. Uh
that upcoming. But before we get there, I wanna I'll
get to this Josh McDaniels story. Doug Gotlip Show is
brought to by Farmers Insurance. Who knows the thing or
two about how to save a buck or two when
you bundle home and auto. So if it's the Farmers
dot Com or call eight hundred Farmers to get a quote.

(39:29):
Todays Ryan Music, Why do you believe that Josh McDaniels
brought his wife? I think it had something to do
maybe along the lines of like, hey, I'm taking this
serious now, Really is that what you're gonna say? Really? Yeah?

(39:53):
I think people thought, uh, the common perception of Josh
mc daniel's bringing his wife to an interview or on
the trip to an interview, which, by the way, any
of these guys can do, right, They're probably like, yeah,
it's probably a plane whatever, you're gonna bring your wife

(40:13):
when you're dog don't care. But most guys, they you know,
they go out and like you, I want to give
ahead of myself because you bring a wife like she's
not sitting in on the meeting and sounding like in
a tour of the facilities and go like this weight
room is delicious, is amazing. You know. I guess she
could go to the you know, if you go to
the facility in Berea. These places have crazy good cafeterias.

(40:34):
You know, they get chefs there, they make it a
nice meal, have a cup of coffee, whatever. But these
are long, long meetings and to bring you in to
put you up at a hotel, they come and get you,
and she's you can't be presumptuous and go look for
a house. I think a lot of people think like
the Browns sent for the wife to go like, we're serious,
let's get this thing done. I think it's the other

(40:56):
way around. Josh McDaniels is most known recently for being
the guy who pulled out on the Indianapolis Colt Shop. Now,
he didn't at the time. Remember that was when Andrew
Luck had not thrown a football, hadn't thrown a football.

(41:18):
He didn't, he didn't play, and then him him play
that season, and there was a lot of uh. There
just wasn't acknowledge as to what what was gonna happen.
After Josh McDaniels changed his mind, Frank Reich took the job.

(41:40):
Even then, Andrew Luck didn't throw a football until training
camp and wasn't throwing the duke until midway through training camp.
And then he there was questions about whether or not
I need to start um, and he he started slow.
They traded for Jacoby Brissett. I believe during the year
off the year he was was off. Anyway, it was

(42:02):
the started slow and then got it going and then
he retired this year. But the big thing is he
is known as the guy who changed his mind. I
would also tell you and I hypothesized at the time.
We can pull the tape, but I'm guessing that his

(42:25):
explanation for why he did not take the job was,
my wife wasn't into it. You know, I took the
job and I she didn't. She didn't. There was nothing
against Indie. By the way, Indie is a great place.
Stories of family have friends that live in the northern
suburbs of Indie. It's amazing. Carmel, Indiana. It's the northern

(42:45):
suburb of north but even Indianapolis proper, it is really nice.
So this is not Gottlieb saying, Hey, Indianapolis sucks. I'm
not saying that. What I'm saying is that I'm guessing
he got home from that meeting it was like, I'm
taking the job, and she's like, wait, we have I
think he has four kids. We have four kids, Like
I don't want to move, you go take the job.

(43:08):
And then he thought about He's like, damn, we're kind
of a team here. She's like, yeah, on a team,
one guy doesn't go do his own thing. So my guests,
and this is an educated hypotheses, is that his wife
was the one who was like on Indie and in

(43:30):
order to make it at least appear that he was
one serious about taking this job. He had to bring
his wife with him. I mean, she apparently wears the
pants in the family. Happens to a lot of families.
All right, ask me asking a married guy, you're going

(43:50):
out tonight? I don't know. I gotta ask the boss.
What's what's that they tell you on your wedding day, Ramos,
what's what's what's yours is hers? And what's hers is hers? Yep, yep. Anyway,

(44:13):
I and this is not saying to the beach, right.
It's not like he's going you know, he's judging the
the Victoria's Secret pageant and he brought his wife and
it's like, yeah, what's going on there? No, this is
it was a meeting, it's an interview. The popular speculation
today was, well, the Browns are bringing his wife in
because they don't want him to leave. They don't want

(44:35):
to leave the building, and they're just gonna sequester them
there to ultimately goes fine, I'll coach your Browns already.
I think it's the opposite. I think it's Josh McDaniels
knowing that last time he changed his mind. A lot
of people thought it might have been his wife and
a disconnect between the two in terms of what they
wanted to do. And if Josh mcdanie is gonna take
the job, he's only gonna take it with her blessing,
and you're only getting her blessing once she sets foot

(44:57):
in Brea or somewhere in Cleveland, Ohio. That's my hypotheses. Yes,
So one thing we had also somewhat discussed when the
whole Josh McDaniels thing originally went down a couple of
years ago, was potentially this you know, hand Shane handshake,

(45:18):
not nod wink wink, deal about like he's the guy. Yeah,
the air apparent to Bill Belichick. Do you think that
perhaps because he was supposed to interview for both the
Giants and the Panthers before they decided to go a
different direction, do you think the reason he's exploring these
options is he's looking at this situation more and more

(45:38):
and maybe, I guess you could say, is losing patience.
He said he wasn't promised it, but he was promised
that it was the Knowledge Bank or something like that,
the knowledge vault. He was supposed to be allowed into
the vault of knowledge which is a lot like the
Cave of Wonders from Aladdin. There's the Vault of Knowledge
in the Cave of Wonders, a game of Wonders. So

(46:04):
he wasn't promised, but there probably was a wink wink,
No not if Bill Belichick. Yeah, I'm guessing. I don't
think it's do. I think the Giants job intrigued him. Sure,
but Josh McDaniels only wants to take a job where
he can pick the GM that wasn't happening in New York.
It we told you, and Gettleman made the hire of

(46:24):
Joe Judge once Gettleman. If they once they maintained Gettleman
as their general manager, that shrunk their pool of candidates. Yes,
Dan Buyer, I was just gonna say, remember too with McDaniels.
First of all, didn't they hire assistance in Indianapolis? There
were two guys that were already brought on staff, and
then and then he ends up backing out. So now

(46:45):
you're like, all right, either to other guys, I really
like your theory because I think we're close on it.
Yet his Hall of Notes says, I think you know
so close, you know that's so far away. I actually
thought he brought us, was bringing his wife to do
what you said that he did in Indianapolis. Good cop,
bad cop? You know what bad I love the Browns.

(47:06):
I love work with Baker Mayfield. But you know, yeah,
I got into it. She can't do Cleveland. Look at her.
She looks depressed, aged five years in getting ten pounds,
just like you know. I'm buying a house, so I
love this place. Look at this, you know, no crown molding.
I think there's a leak in the basement. I think
good cop, bad cop thinks a strong, strong hypothesis. Like
That's how I looked at it. Good cop, bad cop. Yeah.

(47:29):
Do you like to be good copy? Like to be
bad cop? I like to be good cop? Yeah, Lisa
bad cop? Yes she can, Yeah she can. She can
play both very well. So I just probably want to
be liked. So I want to be like, yeah, you know,
yeah this, Yeah, Sure, they're okay, no problem, whatever you want, whatever,
whatever you think they're great great. Sure do you like

(47:52):
being bad cop? I do? I do. That was the
most that was that was the softball, most predictable answer.
I actually bad cop, bad cop. Yes, I believe bad
got bad guys. I do. I've actually done that on
TV where I present both sides of it. Uh, it's
back of my ESPN days. We did the mid Major
Doug versus High Major Doug, and I was super arrogant

(48:15):
high major guy and then I I had like the
scruff and the unkempt look of whatever I was mid
major guy. That was that was That was fun back
in the day. Uh. Yeah, I like to be bad cops.
Fun being the bad guys. Fun. Why the Ravens have
to win it all this season? Next? Be sure to
catch the live edition of The Doug gott Leap Show

(48:36):
weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific Music. Did
you ever find out the answer to that question about
the amount of MSG and the chicken you're eating? I
did not find out specifically. Then there's there's a I'm
not gonna tell you the establishment staying there's an establishment
that serves chicken. And I love chicken, love love, love

(48:57):
love chicken. That's really close us to hear, and I
eat it quite often, a matter of fact, I'm a regular.
It's like Norman cheers. I walk in there like dah here,
everybody a right, sorry, that's Norman. Do you guys watch Cheers.
That was our show, my family show anyway, So music.

(49:17):
I I walk in him at the break room and
usually he's a b y o F guy, bring your
own food sort of guy, usually big salad, and he's
like cutting vegetables there in the break room. It's quite uncomfortable.
And I see him digging into some beautiful, delicious grilled chicken, Like, man,

(49:38):
how good is how good is that? Because I come
and I I have a you know, our brakes are
five or six minutes. I whooped down three pieces of
chicken like it is nobody's business. You know, mobile water,
go pick it up, come back, eat, trying to get hiccups,
and I'm done. It's amazing. Sometimes the hiccups obviously carry over.
That chicken is good, isn't it? Yeah? It's great? Are

(50:00):
you very good? Really good? I'm hungry and think about
ordering myself as well. Uh I ah. I kind of
think the Ravens need to win this year, all right,
stick with me for a second here. The Ravens are
the best record, and they have home field advantage throughout right.

(50:20):
They have a young burgeoning star at quarterback in Lamar Jackson.
They have what was the stat We shared that uh,
ten of last eleven years they finished above like their
perennial playoff team. The only bad year they had was
when Joe Flacco hurt his back two years ago. Two
years ago, and they had a massive amount of injuries.

(50:42):
They they've they've turned themselves over several times. And you know,
I mean, I think it's reasonable for some people to
go like, hey, this is a new dynasty. But I've
told you before and we've discussed this with a lot
of people. Look, what do you do in business? In

(51:03):
order to compete with your rivals, right, you have to
adapt to what your rivals are doing, correct, you know.
So so for example, when I mean grocery stores, now
all of them do mobile ordering. I don't know when
the who the first one to do mobile ordering was,
but they're all like, man, we gotta do mobile ordering.

(51:24):
Everybody's doing mobile ordering, you know. And um, you know,
every coffee place has an app, every single one. They
all have cold brew, most of them have a nitro
version as well. But but sometimes when you there are

(51:46):
always going to be a coffee shop, that's just like, hey,
you know what we're gonna do. We're gonna have the
best coffee and be the best hang right. That was
the initial idea of Starbucks was will be the third
place home work? What's the third place instead of a bar?
It's a coffee shop. And they've gotten a little bit
away from that because now people want it now now, now,
now now, And they make a lot more money with

(52:08):
drive throughs and with mobile ordering than they ever did traditionally,
just because the pace of it. You know, you hire
one more person at I guess now fifteen dollars an hour.
All that is is like what three or four FRAPs,
and it pays for the person. But there are business
There are always businesses which go the traditional route and

(52:29):
then business is adjust. They adjust. I think that's what's
gonna happen with the Ravens. Like do I think the
Ravens are fun to watch? Yes? Do I think they've
taken the league by storm? Yes? So I think they
put um the perfect talent around Lamar Jackson. Sure, you

(52:51):
got a fullback slash running back in mark Ingram, who's
a power runner, fits perfectly with the speed and elusiveness
of Lamar. You have the best offensive line in football.
You got Hollywood Brown to take the top off the defense,
You've got three tight ends who can block and can catch,
and you've got a style which is not only new
and interesting because I know there's been zone reads but

(53:14):
not this committed. But also remember defenses have adjusted to
whether it's the walmartization of the starbucksization of the league. Right,
they're all they were all still kind of figure out.
All right, Well, Kansas City is the new offensive kingpin.
We gotta stop Kansas City speed. Speed speeds, spread you out,

(53:34):
motion jets, sweeps, spread you out, throw it anywhere on
the field. We gotta figure that out. Plus you got
the Patriots who for a long time, we're spreading you
out and throwing the football dink and dunk, you know,
just get rid of the football quickly. And so defenses
didn't really have an off an off season where they

(53:55):
felt like, especially in the division, Hey, we gotta figure
out how to stop the Baltimore Ravens because last year
you saw it a little bit, and then the Chargers
like I saw it twice. Here's how you beat it.
And I would guess that even this year the Browns
who beat them once, the Steelers like like, we don't
have our quarterback. We don't really know and the Bengals

(54:18):
are a joke. They've been a joke. So it's kind
of hard to tell exactly how good they're defensive. Right,
Everyone wanted to know what the Patriots would do the
second time. Everyone wanted to see You always want to
see that second time around. I'm not willing to call
this a gimmick or a fad, but we've seen it

(54:41):
before on many levels. We said, Greg Roman has been
in Buffalo. He was, he was within forty niners. What
happened with the forty niners? It wasn't It wasn't just
Kaepernick kneeling. Remember he lost his job before he kneeled.
One he got banged up. Two he he wasn't that
bought in on being a great teammate, and three people
figured out what his weaknesses was. We just were Colin

(55:03):
Kaepernick small hands, couldn't change our angles, throws he couldn't make,
and they put together a book on Lamar Jackson. Look,
right now, teams just aren't equipped. They're just not equipped
to take on Lamar. They're not. They haven't had an
offseason and go like, hey, we gotta figure out this
own right thing where we can sit down and break

(55:24):
it down they will be Now, he's going to get better,
but he could also get hurt. That's happened to every
running quarterback. He's also a rookie contract, and at some
point after his third year, he's gonna want to get paid.
And how does that affect all those offensive linemen. Hollywood
Brown's gonna want to get paid when he gets out

(55:44):
of his rookie deal. I know it's several years down
the road, but Hollywood Brown is not gonna have a
big number of catches. Why they don't throw the ball
that much. In other words, now would be a very
good time for the Baltimore Ravens to win a Super
Bowl because the league will adjust, and the likelihood that
they're this dominant in the future if you look at

(56:05):
all of the other teams outside of the Patriots, is
slimmer than you think. Fox Sports Radio has the best
sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our

I feel like I haven't talked to John Midcoff for
a long time, Like a year there there The Golic

(56:27):
Show Fox Sports Radio, John Middlcoff three Now podcast. It's outstanding, Um,
not as outstanding as mine. Dwyane Broussard is my guest
this week, Great story assistant coach at TCU. You can
download that. That's the All Ball podcast on the Herd podcast.
Now we're we're on the podcast Family. I'm kidding middlecoff
about yours. Um, all right, I want you to hypothesize

(56:48):
why do you think Josh Mutanna has brought his wife
to the meetings. That's the hell of a question. I mean,
why would you bring your wife Danny situation? I mean
you have to be somewhat serious about it, right, you know?
I think is that there also an image issue with him.
You know, he did spurn India a couple of years ago.
I saw one of the Patriot guys was tweeting about,

(57:10):
you know, the trace Armstrong also represents rule and Josh
felt like he wasn't in the loop on what happened. Well, Josh,
you were the apple of everyone's eye the last couple
of years before that Indie situation happened. You were clearly
the top candidate, even above Kyle Shanahan. He's proven that
you'd rather have Kyle Shanahan at this point and if
he got to debate and you screwed it up. You know,

(57:31):
it wasn't just you turned them down. Remember they had
hired assistant coaches. Now it turns out that Uber Flus
the guy they hired from Dallas, who's pretty good. You know,
So Josh was on the right guy. But that's not normal,
and I I think there's still somewhat of a maybe
not like the next year the stanch on Josh, but
that was a bizarre situation, and he already kind of
has a bizarre just resume from what happened in Denver,

(57:54):
And now you could argue that Cleveland's about as bizarre
and weird as it gets. So maybe they're a matchmate
in head but you know, maybe he wants his wife.
You know. I mean, I'm not married, but you're You've
been a long time married guy, right, so you you
trust your wife's like your partner in life. So if
you were kind of thinking, maybe I'm going to take
the Cleveland Brown's job, if you rely on her for
a lot of things that you do in life, wouldn't

(58:16):
you want her around for that type situation? Because this
guy clearly struggles with pulling this trigger of getting back
to become a head coach. Yeah, I think it's I'm
gonna guess that's actually another great hypothesis, right, that he
can't make the decision and he needs her to push
him over the edge, if you will carry him over
the threshold. The old marital expression. I thought it was

(58:37):
the image thing. I thought it was the hey, I'm
really serious, and it does her under the bus a
little bit where you know, a last time around you know, uh,
you know, last time? How about this one, Doug? Have
you noticed that on Life when they fired Freddy Kitchens,
it didn't just say Jimmy has them. It's a Jimmy. Uh.

(58:57):
You know, maybe you want your wife around to be
around d because she clearly takes a pretty big role
in that organization. I remember that article that wicker shamro
like she's around. I mean, so maybe you want her,
your wife to kind of sniff out D and see
what's going on there. Doug gottlpshow on Fox Sports Tradio.
Do you think he gets it and takes it? Uh?

(59:18):
At the hell of a question, you know, given that
he can probably bring his own general manager, given that
Dorsey was fired, it has to be pretty interesting there
was a lot of smoke. It's hard to ever know
what the Patriots what's real and not that they really
like Baker Mayfield. If they really like Baker Mayfield, that
probably meant that Josh Dandaniels really like Baker Mayfield. So
I get the last year was a disaster, but you know,

(59:41):
it's not that far removed from him coming out in
the draft, you know, eighteen or nineteen months ago or
whatever it is. So you have to think if he
really liked Baker Mayfield two years ago, it would have
to be intriguing, right, just quarterbacks most important, he's an
offensive guy. Uh, you would at least have a serious
conversation if you like a cour her back. John Mitolkoff

(01:00:02):
joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Uh. Joe Judge
and Matt Rule both had the fire and brimstone that
generally doesn't win you games. Um, it doesn't help you
in recruiting because there is no recruiting in the National
Football League. But what do you think of the Hires? Well,
I've known nothing about Joe Judge. Like most people, I
was like who, And then I test around people that

(01:00:25):
have been around him, people that are around him now.
And they love them now. But usually that's when guys
get jobs, they're gonna be highly thought of. My thing was,
you know, he's an intense Philly guy that plays in
the Northeast. I saw you tweeting about it. He clearly
kind of owns the room in terms of the right
message for that city. My question, though, is when you're
a younger guy in your thirties, thirty seven years old,

(01:00:47):
and he's talking about like junction boys lining up doing
the Oklahoma's drill. When you look at the younger guys
recently that have had success, now, I get it their
personalities might be different, but that's not really their tactic.
You know, It's easy to kind of be, you know,
breathing fire and hitting in practice when you're Ron Rivera
and you're older and you have some pelts on the wall.

(01:01:07):
I think it's a little more difficult when you're a
younger guy. And I'm not saying like I'm all four
establishing physicality and even hitting in practice, but talking about
we're gonna wearing pads. Well, there's rules, so you can
only wear pads so many days. It's not like Belichick
and Andy Reid don't like wearing pads. I mean, there's
only so much you can do, but you've gotta be

(01:01:28):
I think there's a tactic you can take with it.
To me, Doug, he reminded he sounded a little like Mangini.
You know, he'd only been around, and it's a good
thing he's only been around, saving in Belichick and those
are the two of the best, arguably two of the
best ever, best college coach, best NFL coach ever. You
could make the argument and that's all this guy knows,
and that's a good thing. But you know, that's all

(01:01:48):
you know, and you try to replicate that we've kind
of proven right, especially with Bill, it doesn't really work.
So I don't know. I it was an impressive like.
I like his message. I think it's just difficult when
you're in your thirties to do it. Tend to agree
with you. This gotli Shawn Fox, sport Trader. That's the
voice of of John Middelkoff. Okay, let's let's get to

(01:02:09):
the actual games. Last time we saw Dean Peas against
Greg Roman, it was the Super Bowl and Greg Roman's
offense really struggled in the first half and then the
second half that came back and for whatever reason, man
a fade pattern to win the game. After the lights
went out in New Orleans and the Ravens won the

(01:02:30):
Super Bowl. Now Dean P's the defensive coordinator of the
Tennessee Titans. He's matching up with the Ravens. Does he
have the personnel to match up with Lamar? Well? To me,
to match up with Lamar, you gotta have big time
speed and playmakers and linebacker and that guy Evans from
Alabama that was all over the place against the New
England Patriots last week and really become a really good player.

(01:02:52):
You need a guy like that against Lamar Jackson because
no one's really been able to corral him. And if
you let him just kind of run free, and unlike
the Kaepernick you know in the Roman offense, Kaepernick couldn't
make you miss. The whole had to be there. And
like you said, DMPs, but it wasn't just they had
edveryed ray Lewis. They were so smart so that that
was gonna be a tough team to run that against.

(01:03:14):
Even if you know what's coming with Lamar, He's like
Barry Sanders, So you have to have guys that can
chase them, that can break down in space. You know,
have good linebackers in terms of change the direction, and
it seems like a lot of guys have struggled with
that over this season. You know, you can you know
he had on earlier day. Who's that Barry Sanders? I mean,
it doesn't Lamar have some Barry Sanders's Yeah, yeah, you know, yeah,

(01:03:40):
and you know what I asked you don't I asked him,
I asked him if you know when when? Because both
of them make guys fall down right it. I mean
it looks like some some like grade school stuff where
guys are literally tearing their A. C. L Is trying
to and I was like, did you did you see
it happening like in slow motion? Like oh, shoot, only
you didn't they shoot right? Or you kind of like

(01:04:02):
to focus on the next guy. He's like, I was
just focused on not getting hit. But they do. They
have that same different style, right Barry standards with the
jump cut, but still the ability to make make great
players look like complete for lack of a better term,
slugs slugs. The offense is different than last year, but

(01:04:23):
I remember talking to you about it with when the
Charger was playing Lamar Jackson. They put all the dvs
on the field and they made him throw. Now, they're
running games so dominant that they're never in that often
third and long situations, but typically in the playoffs right
in the second half, games are tight and it's third
and eight and can he beat you? And that's still
to me a question. They're just never in that situation.
To me that I would do whatever it takes to

(01:04:45):
get Lamar Jackson the second and third long, and clearly
that means selling out on the run if that's putting
nine ten guys in the box, because they unlike the Patriots,
remember when they played earlier this year, and like call
Belichick always takes out your best player, that's true, but
he doesn't have the athletes in this front seven to
really corral Lamar. Where the Titans do, I mean that
they have really athletic front and their linebackers can run,

(01:05:08):
so I I would imagine they're gonna come up with
a game plan under no circumstances. Can Lamar beat us
in the run game and we'll just take our chances
then in the passing game. That to me, and that
now it's easier, has been done. I would imagine most
coordinators have had that thought, but that's through the playoffs.
I would do put all my chips in the middle
of the table and just stopping them run. Chris Jones
and Travis Kelsey are both questionable. This game is at home.

(01:05:30):
Chiefs have lost the last three three years at home,
and one of the teams they've lost this year at
home too is the Tennessee season means the Houston Texans. Um.
I think the most pressure of anybody this weekend is
on Andy Reid, Like, how many times we're gonna see
this team and you know everybody loves my homes is
gonna get forty million dollars? Are they in any danger? Honestly,

(01:05:52):
I haven't seen that Travis Kelsey has been hurt, but
that would be Remember a couple of years ago when
they were playing the Titans in the first round and
he got knocked out and then their whole it just
ruined their team and they end up losing that game.
I guess it's a little different if you know going
into the game that a guy might not play. But
Kelsey is a major Like Tyreek Hill opens everything up

(01:06:13):
on the outside and then just allows Kelsey to eat
over the middle, and he obviously with his speed and
ability is just an uncoverable player. I mean, those two
guys combining with Mahomes are just basically like Steph Clay
and Kevin Durant of the NFL. They're unstoppable when they're on.
And Chris Jones not just Chris Jones, but that defense
has been pretty dominant down the stretch. They have been

(01:06:35):
really good. And they lost their starting safety that plays
next to Honey Badger Thornhill towards a c L I
think the second to last week of the season. If
Chris Jones camp, that's pretty big blows for a defense
that have been rolling. So if those two guys are out,
then I would look at this game completely different and
say the Houston Texans have a shot. But otherwise they
should not know. I don't. I think the Houston Texans

(01:06:55):
are talking about a basketball team. I mean, they got
two guys it's Hopkins and to Shaun Watson, and it's
just keep your fingers crossed. They can bail you out
and if they can't, which they do a lot, but
it gets a lot more difficult. Like they they were
getting thoroughly outplayed last week, and the Bills are solid team,
but they were getting their butt kick, and that was
at home, So you're gonna go on the road outside

(01:07:16):
in a cold environment, arrowhead rocking, I I just now,
but Kelsey Jones, I mean those are besides like my
homes and Tyrek Hill and those they are top five
players on the team. So that would be a that
would be a swing, you know, kind of ordeal for them.
Seattle take it on Green Bay. A lot of people
on Seattle in this game, because you feel like every
Seattle game is the same, Russell Wilson running around trying

(01:07:38):
to make a play late. I'm not in love with
the Seattle team. I know they've they've won a bunch
of road games, but they got Philly and got very fortunate.
Carson Wentz got hurt. But they are shell of themselves
and running the football now they got to throw it.
That's not really their strength. And I think that that
is the strength of this Packer defense, which is if
you throw it. We got the Smith Boys to pin

(01:07:59):
our years back. I like to pack big, am I crazy? Yeah,
I don't know if I like to pack big, but
I definitely like the pack. When you think about last week,
it turns out Josh McCown had a torn hamstring and
the yeah, thirty forty years old Josh McCown torn hamstring,
and that game was a game. Now you could argue,
like you said, Seattle, whether they're playing the eighty five

(01:08:22):
Bears or they're playing the you know, the winless Cleveland
Browns of two years ago, their games are gonna look similar.
That's where it's just like, how often did they get
blown out? I mean truly just get their button whooped?
I think you know, the Saints did it this year
when they went up to Seattle with Teddy Bridgewater and
they kind of rolled them. Two years ago, the Rams
came in and kicked the living crap out of them. Yeah,

(01:08:42):
just it doesn't happen that much. But I thought all season,
like god, they if they ended up because at one
point in time and help, they were an inch away
from winning the division. Like that. They were not a
very good team. They have an elite player, but I
just I don't love their roster, especially given their injuries.
Now you saw last week Clowney is not big on
like ten am kickoffs against Cleveland. He'll just go through

(01:09:05):
the motions. But you put on a primetime game Clowney
or a playoff game, Clowney brings it and Clowney was
flying around last week, so if they get a good
effort from him and Russ, it's just you know, I
would probably take the Packers. I wasn't the lines four
and a half. They should be able to cover that.
But Seattle is just such a bizarre team. You know,
they just they just do Their games are just weird,

(01:09:25):
you know, crazy things consistently happen definitely when these two
teams play, and I don't Actually, while the Packers definitely
have better players, their defense is actually really good. Zarius
Smith's been unreal. I just they to me have been
pretty average most of the season, despite when it's weird
to say. I mean, they did win thirteen games, but
let's look at the last week. I mean, the Lions

(01:09:46):
were kind of kicking their butt and Rogers was off,
and their offense really hasn't clicked in the second half
of the season. All right. Uh, I was gonna ask
you about San Francisco, but this is a better one. Um,
if you were New England, would you let Tom Brady
walk um? I mean, I mean it feels like it
feels like he has a power play for a multi

(01:10:07):
year deal and he hasn't been he's not the same guy.
And do they need more help? Yes, but I mean
whenever he was this year, he's going to be worse
next year. And then like what, I gotta pay him
for two years? Why? Because he's Tom Brady? Like I
don't know. Yeah, if it's like if it's like to
sixty fully guaranteed or I'm out, you know something like that.
I you know what Belitiack's answer would be. I think

(01:10:30):
it's no. And he's forty. He's gonna be forty three
years old. I love Tom Brady, who doesn't. I mean,
he's greatest player ever, but he's forty three years old.
I mean that's that's it's insanity. And now I actually
didn't think he looked that bad last week. But the
counter though, Doug is like, who's playing quarterback for him?
I know they got to sit him on the roster,

(01:10:51):
but he's a mid round pick and he's never been great.
If Josh leaves, that means you're you're implementing potentially a
new offense or definitely a new offensive coordinator. Uh uh
so maybe Tom would want to leave no matter what.
If Josh left, do they draft a guy they're they're
not drafting that high, and so many teams need a quarterback.
Who are they gonna sign like Rivers Dalton, Bill wouldn't

(01:11:12):
sign Cam Like your options are kind of like Mariota,
you know, what do you do now? Bill might just
be like, I don't even We'll figure it out. Everybody
says Dalton. For a year or two Dalton and then
draft one or develop one. Yeah, and maybe maybe they
really liked the guy. I mean, once upon a time,
no one knew who Tom Brady was, right and forever
they knew what they had in Jimmy Garoppolo, And it

(01:11:32):
wasn't until Brady got suspended that everyone's like, damn, this
guy is pretty darn good. So yeah, I just don't
even think Belichick thinks of it like a fan. He
was like, well, yeah, we'll figure it out, all right. Well,
actually I'm going one more. I don't care are are
are you sold on Cousins now? No? Uh not not
at all. But you give him credit. I mean, he
made the throw when he had to make the throw,

(01:11:52):
but he had three drives in the up twenty to
ten that they did nothing. And remember the one path
where he skipped it. I'm going to the game tomorrow.
I if if Cousins wins this, if the Vikings are
able to win, uh, which they have elite talent at
a lot of different places. We know the formula. It's
run Dalvin Cook rush for about a hundred fifty yards.
The defense dominating Cousins does not turn the ball over.

(01:12:14):
It's not Cousins carrying you. I mean, that's just he's
not him playing like Russell Wilson or Pete Rogers. When
they win. He looks just like a game manager. And
there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, Alex Smith won
a lot of games a game manager. They get in trouble,
and everyone in the NFL will tell you this, and
any fan that watches him knows this. When he has
to put him on his back and throw forty plus
times in a game, in a game where they're down

(01:12:36):
against good teams like the one he's facing tomorrow, they
have no chance. Now if they run the ball and
those defensive ends gets a tee off because they have
a lead. The Vikings can beat anybody because their coach
is really good. But when he has to do it,
to me, he's just not talented enough. And then his
personality gets a little tight, no question about it. Your
personality is never tight. We appreciate you join us, enjoy
the game, don't get thrown out. Thanks for joining us.

(01:12:57):
Thanks a good one. All right. That's John Middle, Kendrick
Perkins versus Kevin Durant who we got find out next.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
gott Leap Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Say.
This was Shannon Sharp talking about the Twitter beef between

(01:13:19):
Kendrick Perkins and Kevin Durant. All Parks said was what
everybody else is thinking. Katie, You know I think Perk
saying Prague, you joined the team that you had down
three one of the Western Conference Finals you win, joined him.
Every NBA player in the league. I shouldn't say everything.
Most last thing is all in every but nine believe

(01:13:41):
that was the week's song was moved by k D.
That's their opinions, just like Kad had a right, that's
his choice to go where he wanted. He gets so
upset he don't want anybody to have an opinion that
different from he is. No, I don't actually like, I
don't see it that way, Shannon, I don't. I do
think that Kevin Durant is sensitive. I do think he

(01:14:03):
likes to was the kid's term. Clap back. Um. But
if we're just saying what everyone in the league said,
everyone in the league did say, boy, it's hard to
play four on five. And when Kendrick Perkins was on
the Thunder starting at center, it was four on five. Again,

(01:14:24):
if you want to go with what everybody says, that's
what everybody said. There's a point of frustration. They were
poorly constructed team where they had two big guys in
a league and against the Warriors who had learned to
play small ball. Um. So my point is, if you're
going to talk ish and say it was the weakest

(01:14:46):
move of all time, you gotta be willing to have
the other guy doesn't have to go like, oh, this
weekend move of all time. You're right, Kendrick Perkins, You're right.
Could he have said nothing? Sure, he could have avoided it.
Who cares? I got two rings and two on finals
m v P. We were in three NBA finals. Everyone knows.
Everyone who watched thought I was the best player on

(01:15:07):
the floor. Couldn't let it go. But the idea that
he has to take it and not clap back I
don't agree with. I don't say this is also interesting
when um, you know the former teammate thing, where like,
all right, which former teammates are you supposed to defend?

(01:15:27):
When you know which former teammates are you supposed to defend?
Only the ones I currently like all of them, you're
supposed to give perspective. I saw Agent zero come out
and kind of defend Kevin Durant saying, hey, look, I
know there are three games to one, but everyone knows

(01:15:49):
Oklahoma City was getting worse, not better. I would disagree.
If you remember the timeline of events, Oklahoma City traded
Um for Victor Oladipo. They traded for Victory Ladipo, so
the backcourt would have been Kevin Durant, Victory Ladipot, and
Russell Westbrook to go along with Steven Adams and Andre Robertson.

(01:16:13):
They made a seismic change to change their roster and
go smaller, and Sergebaca was sent to Orlando. Sergebaka end up,
you know, going to Toronto and winning an NBA championship.
But that was actually a really if you didn't like
the hard move, That's fine. The subsequent moves that were
made because remember hot of Sergebaka became victory Ladipot. At

(01:16:35):
a victory, Ladipot got them Paul George, and out of
Paul George, they got all these draft picks for their future.
All right, there's one person this weekend that I believe
is under the most pressure. No, it's not a quarterback,
it's not a running back, it's not a wide receiver.

(01:16:59):
There's one guy who will be under a ton of dress.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific.
What Up, Tug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I'm brought
to you by Farmers Insurance and Farmers. We know a
thing or two, but let's save a bucker two when
you bundle home and auto. So visit Farmers dot com

(01:17:19):
called one eight hundred farmers to get a quote today.
Are we got a lot to get to today, including
my picks for this upcoming weekend. Should be good. Four picks,
four games now usually usually the cases to home and
two road winds. This thing right, matter of fact, Ryan

(01:17:41):
Music is quickly and furiously researching how many times to
home and two road have one in the divisional round.
It feels like that's every year. It just does. It
feels like every year to Home two Road. There's been
a lot of talk of the pressure that's on Aaron Rodgers.
You know, Rogers hadn't made the playoffs the past two years.

(01:18:02):
Two years ago, he's hurt, came back early, didn't matter. Um.
Last year Aaron Rodgers Packers team didn't make the playoffs
and Mike McCarthy got fired. So it's been a while
for Rodgers. He's in his mid thirties. His football clock
is taking a little bit. There's some pressure. They're playing
at home against the guy. He doesn't um. He's he's

(01:18:25):
just not all in on right, He's not. They are
not boys. He and Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. They
kind of come limping in here. They lost their top
three running backs and there are other injuries on this team.
Plus they gotta turn around after playing a hard fought
game in Philly last week. The pressure is clearly on

(01:18:45):
Aaron Rodgers. In San Francisco, there's some pressure and Jimmy Garoppolo,
we haven't seen him play in the playoffs. He's got
a great team, he's got a good running game. No
one's gonna blame Kyle Shanahan because he's actually taking an
offense to the super Bowl and he's seen as an
offensive savant. You go and look in in Baltimore, and

(01:19:08):
even though Lamar was bad in the playoffs last year,
Lamar Jackson's gonna be the m v P. He's seen
as a breakthrough, kind of a transcendent NFL player that
could combine the college game with the NFL game. He
plays poorly, people just say, you know, it's only as
he's young. He's young. Pat Mahomes gonna get forty million

(01:19:31):
dollars a year in the off season. Deshaun Watson won
everybody over, not just winning last week and the way
he's won with a depleted team, but also he won
a national championshick Clemson. I know that Andy Reid has
been to a Super Bowl. I know that five out
of six years in a stretch they went to the
NFC championship game. When he was in New England. I

(01:19:53):
would see one who was in Philadelphia. I know all this.
I understand what they've built in Kansas City has been
nothing short of remarkable, especially considering what he's lost. Right,
he lost Doug Peterson and they've still been good. They
trade away Alex Smith and made the right decision, not

(01:20:14):
because Alex got hurt, but because Pat Mahomes just has
better armtown. I mean, heck, he lost Matt Naggy. They've
still been good. Their offense has been able to sustain
losing most everyone in that room outside of Eric b
Enemy and still been one of the elite offenses in
the NFL while adding better and better pieces and fits. Heck,

(01:20:37):
they lost their running back, right they lost the guy
who led the league in rushing two years ago. Still
been productive but Ay Reid, and maybe more than even
Andy Reid, the Kant City Chiefs have a history of
losing playoff games at home. Marty Shotton never made a

(01:20:59):
career of it. Andy Reid lost the thirty one point
lead to the Annapolis Colts that was on the road
in two thousand fourteen. The last three times he's been
in the playoffs last three years, they've lost at home.
Last year they did win a game, but losing at
home to teams that I think most of the world
views as inferior to the Kansas City Chiefs in the

(01:21:20):
regular season. You can't do that again. And the Houston Texans,
though they beat the Chiefs earluded this year, they're not
as good as the Chiefs. When Pat Mahomes is right,
nine is good. Everybody knows it. J J. Watson shell
of himself. Obviously, they have a you know, new co
Hopkins might be the best wide receiver in the league,
and Deshaun Watson does have a certain Michael Jordan's take

(01:21:44):
your guys as farther than they can be taken on
their own. But you're coming up against an equally gifted,
if not more gifted quarterback with a much more developed team,
a better, much better defense than last year. I just
I feel like, even though it might not be his fault,
if they lose this game, Andy Reid is gonna get

(01:22:06):
you a hell of a lot of blame because the
pattern has been similar. Have a lead in the second
half at home, they get tight play call and gets conservative,
and they end up losing. How's it happen? And I
don't think they need a new coach take that next step,
But I do think that you may get to a
point where you're like, look, you gotta win these games.

(01:22:27):
They have not done it. I believe that the most pressure, okay,
the most pressure of anyone this weekend is gonna be
on Andy Reid. It just is. You know, twelve and four,

(01:22:48):
twelve and four, ten and six, twelve and four, eleven
and five. That's if you go backwards the past couple
of years with the Chiefs, they got one playoff win.
He's been there since two tho. They've had double digit
wins all except for his second year. And they have
one playoff win. And now you have the quarterback, and

(01:23:09):
now you have uh you go once again playing at
home and they have a great home field advantage, and
now you're playing the snow against the Dome team. You
can't beat a Dome team that's banged up, that's a
shell of them for the shell of themselves at home
with Pat Mahomes and all of his weaponry, When are

(01:23:31):
you gonna win? I think Andy Reid's under the most pressure,
mostly because of his own history with the Chiefs, but
some of it because of the Chief's history with the Chiefs. Doug, Yes,
what are you saying? I was gonna have a quick
crushing Do you think is it because things speed up
during the playoffs quicker or the game. Something's different in

(01:23:52):
the game where coaches like Andy Reid don't win like that,
but yet they can win during the course of the season.
Is it because something happens in a playoff game where
it just becomes really fast and maybe you have to
think quicker on your feet? What's your theory of why
a good coach like that does not win games? Well?
I mean, like, look, he's been accused of being conservative.
Some of that was because he had Remember he had

(01:24:14):
Alex Smith as his quarterback who was always he was
captain checkdown. But they got a little concerned last year.
I think some of it has been his his own
personal play calling. I think some of it is. You know,
Kansas City has won the division since Peyton got old.
The division hasn't been good, right. The Raiders had one
year where they made the playoffs a couple of years ago,

(01:24:35):
but outside that they've been awful for twenty years. The
Chargers have been mostly down, with the exception obviously of
last year and they beat Kansay in Kansas City and
the Broncos. Since Peyton Manning's next to last year, that
hasn't been a good offense at all. And after Peyton
Manning won the Super Bowl, which was wit how many
years ago is that that he won the superol I'm
gonna say like fifteen fourteen. They haven't been it. So

(01:25:02):
you have you have a little bit of what's happened
in New England where you have a week division. They
also have the best home field for any game. Maybe
in the NFL. He is a good coach, but I
also think sometimes players make plays in the playoffs more
than the coaches can make can make plays, but I
think he's held some of them back because he can

(01:25:22):
be a little conservative. Um. I look, I think everything
everything matters, and I think that stadium gets tight, and
that's not all any Reid's fault. How many times with
Marty Schotenheimer did they come up short? A ton? A ton?
All right? So our crack research team, which is made
up of Ryan Music has unfortunately, I don't believe what

(01:25:47):
you said was correct. You said usually at least two
road teams win. I was able to go the past
eleven seasons and they have only it's only happened three times.
What happens most of the time, all four road four
home teams win. Most of the time at least one
road team wins, so twice the home teams went four. Oh,

(01:26:08):
who's it gonna be? Man, you gotta pick one, you
gotta pick one. I'm gonna go with I guess I
would probably have to go with Seattle. Thinks a lot
of people picking said that's the smallest line, that's a
four and a half point because all the other teams

(01:26:30):
or or the Vikings would be out of the NFC.

show Fox Sports Radio. You know I was I'm looking
at these lines, and I decided, since last week I

(01:26:52):
was three and one, I'm gonna get back after continue
the streak of excellence in the NFL. Remember three one,
last week's picks three and one, fifty three and thirty
eight overall. So we're in the money. Winners, Let's get ours.
I want winners. Well, we got a five NFL five

(01:27:18):
college it's five for five with Doug Goblin. Let's go five.
Let's start with the Packers, who many people think are
on what is it that they always say upset alert? Really,
Packers are healthy. They're five and three at home against
the spread this season. But they got Davante Adams back right,

(01:27:40):
which changes who they are in the red zone. They've
already had already great in the red zone. Um, look,
how about this one. The Packers are fourth in rushing
fourth going against the Seattle defense that's twenty six against
the run. What do you think they're gonna do? By

(01:28:03):
the way, the Packers defense finished up given only nine
point nineteen points per game, eight and red zone defense.
And if you wanted to say, hey, the teams that
beat them Chargers, uh Niners. You know those teams they
ran the football. That's fair. Remember Seattle, who is third
and rushing in the league, lost their top three running backs.

(01:28:24):
Seattle is not who their numbers tell you they are.
The Packers are. Packers also have Aaron Rodgers. They're not
incompetent at quarterback, so we don't have a sense for
the Seahawks. Russell Wilson's fantastic, but his overall roster is not.
I think this is the mismatch in the cold, in
the snow give me the pack and all other points

(01:28:47):
Viking has taken on the Niners. Niners only three four
and one at home this season against the spread, so
not as dominant as you would think. Jimmy D. Jimmy
G will be starting his first playoff game ever. Uh um. Remember.
To start the season, the Niners we're considered maybe the
NFL's best defense. That was because they were playing against
a really soft schedule. Since Week thirteen, they've given up

(01:29:09):
twenty nine points per game. On the other side, the
Vikings defense is second the red zone in six and
points per game. Last week's overtime win against the Saints
on the road, they put to bed that a whole
Kirk Cousins can't win the big game thing. They're still
gonna run it. They still Adam Deland's gonna play even
with whatever that weird cut is in his ankle, and

(01:29:31):
their defense is nasty nasty, So they're kind of mirror
image of each other. So I'm not saying Niners don't
have to win, don't have to lose this game, but
seven points especially, you can get seven in a hook.
Given the Vikings. Ravens are ten five and one overall,
second best in the NFL against the spread this season.

(01:29:51):
There's no other way to put at The Ravens have
been statistically the best offense in the Nation Football League.
Number one points per game, number two in yards, number
one in rushing, second on third down, and in the
red zone, number one on time per drive. Do I
think that if he gave he got two weeks, Dean
p s could design a scheme to slow down the Ravens. Yes,

(01:30:11):
you know what, he didn't have two weeks. He barely
had a full week. They play on a Saturday. Um,
I just look. Uh, the defense for the Ravens separated
themselves in the red zone third and points per game
and in the red zone six and turnover margin. I
like the Ryan Tannehill story, but when he did throw

(01:30:34):
last week, he threw one of the worst picks I've
seen in playoff history. Derrick Henry is a monster, But
this Ravens seems actually good against the run. What they
don't do is they don't pressure you against the past.
That doesn't matter as much against this Tennessee Titans team.
I think the Ravens get out big early and uh
and don't look back. Ravens and the points the Texans

(01:30:59):
are five, have two and one on the road against
the spread this year. Their top ten on offense in
the following categories red zone, third, downtime, possession, points per drive,
Chiefs Air defense is thirty in time per drive on
defense on offense, Kansas City is twenty three and rushing
averaging only on hundred yards of game under a hundred

(01:31:19):
yards of game. What does that mean? The game plan
is pretty simple. Play keep away from Pat Mahomes. That's
what Brady tried to do last year. That's what teams
have done, including the Texans earlier this year. Do I
think they need Will Fuller Sure to win the game,
But it's the ten point line as I'm looking at
right now. I will take Houston and the points. So

(01:31:41):
two hundred dogs Bikes, Texans two favorites, Packers, Ravens. There
it is five NFL five College five for five with
Doug Gottley. Be sure to catch the live edition of
the Doug gott Leap Show weekdays at three p m.

(01:32:01):
Easter noon Pacific Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
A lot of things I want to catch up with
t J. Hushmansa Hill, join us momentarily getting ready for
the playoffs to really get in a way last weekend,
it is interesting with how big these spreads are. Last weekend,
every game was close, right, literally every game was close. Um.

(01:32:25):
What's maybe more interesting is that I would make the case.
I would make the case that the Vikings were the
team that they could have put away the Saints twenty
ten could have put him away. And I thought that
conservative play calling was really what change things. But you know,

(01:32:46):
because they wanted overtime the way in which they wanted
over time, they were the better football team. I I
credit Sean Payton who said as much after the game.
They were the better football team. Mhm, yes they in
I was gonna say, remember last year in the divisional
playoffs and you you and Ryan were talking about at
home in a way, but I thought last year we

(01:33:08):
thought that the Colts were the dangerous team that Andrew
Luck coming in for what they did against the Texans
and all they're like it was eagle Saints was one
of the divisional playoffs. Uh the uh in the Rams
were facing the Cowboys. But I think we felt that
the Rams were the better team. But I just remember
last year of thinking, man, the Colts. Heck, they had
that wild card game that that week before where they

(01:33:30):
took care of the Texans look out Kansas City and
then the Chiefs just run up and down the field
with them. That's what I wanted, you know, like that,
that's the thing they're talking to ourselves into. Yes, yes,
And that's what I just wonder sometimes, like you know,
because I just told you before I like the Vikings,
and I'm wondering, as you said, they maybe should have
put away the Saints. Am I trying to talk myself
into that that's something that you may have to guard against. Um. Yeah,

(01:33:56):
And I don't know, like San Francisco, they haven't had
a home playoff game in the new bill thing, have they?
I don't. I believe this is it's not seen as
a real like a nasty, tough atmosphere. I don't know
how much that changes that that changes with the playoffs.
Can't see is a super tough atmosphere, but it hasn't
really affected people in the playoffs. Right, Um Baltimore, which

(01:34:17):
I feel like he is a tough crowd, but the Chargers,
who have reputation being soft, wain in there and walloped
him last year and then you have Green Bay, which
visually and temperature wise feels like it can be terrible.
You have Seattle, who plays in rainy weather, not a
lot of snowy weather. How do they how are they affected?
I think that the Texans playing outdoors is interesting to me.

(01:34:41):
That one's interesting to me. Seahawks how they work out outdoors.
But you can't, you know, replicate snow and degrees in
the teens. So yeah, I mean, look, Russell Wilson. I
know he didn't play I don't think in snow and
his one year at Wisconsin, but he did play at Wisconsin,
so he has played, and he's played plenty of bad
weather playing Seattle. They don't play indoors, so everybody's looking

(01:35:05):
for a little edge. T j Oshmansaa joins us in
the Doug gat Lip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
where are you, Doug? What's up? Man? Man? Where are you?
It's Friday? Do you calling from the bar? Are you
rolling deep? What are you doing? I just got done.
This is our first week of draft training and so
just got done working with my guys man hopefully getting

(01:35:27):
them ready to dominate. Who you got I got some
guys this year. I got receiver wise, I have Michael Pittman,
Chase Clay Michael Pittman from USC, Chase Claypool from Notre Dame,
Brandon a youth from Arizona State, Dotty Washington from Wake four,

(01:35:50):
Cedric Burr from Hawaii. Couple running backs A J. Dillon
tight Ends Cold Committ Harrison Bryant. So I got I
got some guys at the talent. They just got a
fine tune mess. All all right, let me know when
those workouts are around where I stay, and I'll bring.
I wanna bring the little guy learn how to around
where you stay every day, just so you give you
every day we in your area. Okay, I appreciate that. Good,

(01:36:12):
good little heads up. Doug gottlip Shaw on Fox Sports Radio.
I said, the most pressure this weekend is on Andy Reid.
Like Pat Mahomes is gonna get paid, Deshaun Watson has
everybody's respect from Clemson. Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna play in
more playoff games. Aaron Rodgers already has a Super Bowl.
Lamar Jackson's like, you know, he's he's twenty years old,
you know, So I feel like the guy who has

(01:36:33):
been in the league the longest, and I mean they
lost at home in the last three years plus they
had the collapse in Nindy. Isn't this a really big
game for Andy Reid? Oh, you're not wrong at all.
It's more so like Andy Reid is the most accomplished
coach and he has them accomplished the ultimate going. It's
just when you for people that don't know that, when

(01:36:56):
you hear it, it's a shocker, like, huh, Andy Reid
really with the type of teams he he's had. Now
I look at it is this team here is if
we just go player for player, they might be the
most comic team less in the playoffs are just in
the NFL period, and so is the pressure. Of course,
there's pressure for every team, but does Andy Reid feel

(01:37:16):
added pressure because this might be a chance the Patriots
have been knocked off? He has to be looking at
it like this has got to be our year. Um,
Houston is the Dome team they come in. You know
they got they got basically two dudes on offense. Right,
they might have the best wide receiver and obviously you
would know more about that than I would. Um in

(01:37:36):
New Hopkins and they have a guy who just makes
plays in Deshaun Watson against the defense, it's not great
against the run that that doesn't keep people off the field.
How much of a threat is this Houston team? But
the Texas are a threat because of what you just said.
They got If he's not the best receiver, he's had
worst number two and would Deshaun Watson to play made

(01:38:00):
last week is just like wow. But when when you
look at the Texas, it's they're they're a rollercoaster of
a team and you just don't know what you're going
to get. When when you watch that game last week,
they were pretty much out played by the Bills. They
were out played by them. They got Deshaun Watson made
a great play, they got to had a few calls

(01:38:20):
go their way and they and they pulled it out. Now,
the Chief's defense, they've been better, lady. If the chief
defense can not turn it into a shootout every game,
they're going to be tough to be. They have so
many weapons on offense and so if forces of closing
offense and DeShawn Watson to have to be perfect because

(01:38:41):
your defense, that Texas defense is not gonna stop the Chiefs.
They need the chief to turn the ball over to
implow to beat themselves for it to be a game.
In my opinion, t Joishman's out of joining us in
the Dug Outlet Show. You can check him out every
Saturday alongside Steve Hartman at one pm Eastern time, ten
pm Pacific time. Excuse me one at ten am Pacific time,

(01:39:02):
my bad on Fox Sports Radio. Let me ask you
about the game tomorrow in San Francisco. Jimmy Garoppolo playing
at home. You got the Vikings coming in are you
are you a buyer now? And the Cousins after that
one road win. I was I wouldn't. I wouldn't say
I was ever a seller of Kirk Cousins. He hadn't
won the big game, and he made a great throw.

(01:39:24):
I staid during the game, Kirk Cousins needs to make
one play, and he did with that throw. But that
was a great catch. Bike Feeling. Defense played great. They
ran the ball extremely well. But a different animal they
that defensive line. And Minnesota Vikings played well offensively last week.
But they played well because they were able to run

(01:39:44):
the ball, they couldn't pin their ears back the same
to rush the pause or so they had to kind
of play It's a different animal when you're going up
against number one, one of the top two or three
defense in the league, that defensive line and a team
that's well rested and you just played a tough overtime game,
It's gonna be tough sledding for Minnesota's. And again, I

(01:40:05):
was never a seller of Kirk Cousins. I'm a firm
believer in all we want to do is kill the
quarterback when they don't win. But it's really everybody around them.
And we've given way too much credit because it's really
everybody around what happened to San Francisco's defense. I mean,
I know they played a tougher level of competition, but
twenty nine points a game after Week thirteen, man injuries

(01:40:26):
catch up to you. Number one teams really get a
chance to dissect you. You're playing the visual opponents. They
really know what you want to do well, they know
your weaknesses. That that plays a part in it. When
you play Um the Cardinals, Geral's on the Cardinals down
the stretch, you play Seattle twice, you play the Rams.
Those are divisional opponents. They know you very well, and
so that kind of skewed the numbers a little bit,

(01:40:47):
but don't rest it. Man. What's that defense? And the
way Shanahan caused plays on offense? Is are gonna be
tough to beat. As long as Jimmy g doesn't turn
the ball over, they're gonna be tough to beat. Demps
did a good job against the Miners when Greg Roman
was the coordinator. They have fast linebackers. What you need
to contain this? Uh, this attack, but Baltimore has just

(01:41:08):
been getting ahead and laughing at people. Uh. Tennessee was impressive,
but they had to shrink the game. The game it was.
It was you know, it was a one point game
before the pick six, Like, let's not act like it
was a it was a blowout last week in New England.
Can Tennessee going and beat Baltimore? Uh? To me, this
is probably the game where if I had to say
which one are you most confident in? It is Baltimore

(01:41:29):
beating Tennessee. And I say that because you go to
New England, you're the Tennessee Titans. Very emotional win. They're
carry carries the ball. I believe it was thirty three
times and maybe thirty eight times, and it's hard to
carry the ball that many times back to back weekend,
and now you're going to get the Baltimore defense that's

(01:41:52):
there fast as one. When you say Tennessee's linebackers are fast,
they're fast, but nobody's fast enough to keep up with
Lamar jacks I don't care how fast they are. They're
not keeping with Lamar Jackson. And jay On Brown is
gonna be hurt so he won't be playing. So has
to start that down. It's hard to get up two
weeks in a row. Emotionally it's the playoffs. They're gonna
be ready to play, but they're playing Baltimore. And Baltimore

(01:42:12):
and Bean Peace can slow Lamar Jacking down again, or
this Grant Roman offense down a game. Kudo to him.
He shouldn't be a deep coordinator. He should be somebody's
head coach. Okay, let me ask you about Green Bay
in Seattle. A lot of people like Seattle. I don't
I think they caught a bright Now only did they
only have to face Carson Wentz for like a quarter

(01:42:35):
half a quarter half a quarter, But then Josh Josh
mc cown had a torn hamstring for three quarters. I mean,
and and and you know everybody else in Philly is
already hurt. Now you're gonna eat Screen Bay teen that's
rested playing at home. Uh. They run the football and
Seattle doesn't stop the run. I don't understand why everybody
is so so hot to trot on Seattle, do you no?

(01:42:58):
I'm with you, Man's Seattle is the team. When you
look at their point differential, every game they've won has
been a one score game, with the exception of one
of the game the first game when they beat the
Arizona Cardinals. They have played. Every game has been tight
all season long. You go back to the first game
of the season, the team that has the first pick

(01:43:20):
of the draft of Bengals, where miss Field goes away
from beating Seattle in Seattle first game of the season.
They played a lot of tough games. They've been down
to the wire against bad teams. The Green Bay Packers,
like you said, can run the ball, and it need
be they have twelve under center to come carry them
and save them. If that's the case, Um, I don't

(01:43:41):
see Seattle whin it. Running back to down to the
third running back in Mars Shawn Lynch, and they signed
Robert Turban and you're playing the lambo field in green
Bay with that weather. They're not used to that. I'm
not on Soldo on Seattle like everybody else is. I'm
with you. Um, what what do you think of? Why
do you think Josh for dinners about his wife to

(01:44:01):
the meetings in Cleveland to make sure she likes the
harry of me. It's one of those figs. Baby, I'm
gonna be gone all the time. Let's let's get familiar
with the city and you tell me what you think.
I mean, you have to doesn't that? Does that sell
her out? As she was the reason that he pulled
out of Indie she didn't like indiecis one of those

(01:44:24):
where if she doesn't like it, now baby, let's come
with me and make sure you like it so you
don't make me look like an idiot again. If that's
the case, I don't understand why are the Cleveland Brown
so gung ho about Josh mcdowne after what you like.
I don't think people realize you have the Indianapolis coach job.

(01:44:46):
It's been reported and then you change your mind. It's
not like you went and bought a parrot Jordan's and
said not I don't like you, let me go get
another pair like, you really did this to an NFL franchise.
I don't get it, but yeah, he has to bring
his life to make sure she's okay with him taking
a job. He just left the facility, but he has
not been off of the job, so we'll see. I

(01:45:06):
do think that was him trying to convince them, not
them trying to convince. Oh you gotta everybody. They always
say bring your wife, but they don't really want you
to to bring your wife to the just ending in
New England. Man, the house is on fire. He's getting
out before it burns down. What would you do if
you're the Patriots? Would you let Brady walk if you
want a multi year deal. I'm a fan of Brady, man,

(01:45:27):
I really am. People can say, oh, don't make no excuses.
He didn't have weapons in yours times. He didn't have weapons.
He had more than what he had this year. I'm
doing whatever it takes to keep Brady because I'm a
believer and what he does and what Alex does with him.
You put Brady on the team with weapons, everybody's gonna say, oh,
m G, do you just go MG? I mean, you

(01:45:49):
sound like the hip You sound like the hipp Is
due in America and then you go o MG, which
is kind of data that sounds like something a white
ude from Orange County would say, which is me not you.
I am in Orange County as we speak, so hey
that I appreciate that. I appreciate that. All right, I
will see you with those dudes running routes. Thanks so
much for joining us. We'll talk soon. Keep up the
good work, Doug Man. That's my boy. Who's t Hushman's

(01:46:12):
check him out with Steve Hartman tomorrow one o'clock Eastern time,
ten am Pacific time. Right here on Fox Sports Radio,
have the Cleveland Browns found their next head coach? By
no next be sure to catch the live edition of
the Doug gott Leap Show weekdays at three pm Easter
noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart

(01:46:33):
Radio ah AP. Doug Gotlive show Fox Sports Radio every day.
This time we like to get you update on the
stories of the day, get rady for the games of
the weekend of the night. Called the Press the Press,
Dan Buyer, what's in the press? Doug, Josh McDaniels has
left the building. Yes, Elvis has left the building. At

(01:46:56):
Cleveland dot Com with the video of Josh McDaniels actually
parting the Browns facilities departing the Browns facilities earlier, at
least within the last hour. Sides met today to discuss
the Brown's head coaching vacancy. Now Doug I was under
the impression from reports earlier this week that the Browns
wanted this done by today or tomorrow. Mary Kake Cabinot

(01:47:16):
of Cleveland dot Com says the Browns now will wait
and make a thorough decision that could possibly go through
the NFL playoffs and who their next? Which is smart?
There's the only job open. What's the rush? What's the rush?
And there's uh you think I feel like McDaniels goes
those lengths. He didn't get on up if they want

(01:47:37):
and they don't, he didn't get on a plane right, Yes, yes,
I would think so. But I think they want to
watch the Niners and sala his defense. I think they
want to ruminate. My guess is if they don't pick him,
he didn't, he didn't blow them away. Forty Niners on
Becker Kwana Alexander returning from the worn peck. John Middlekoff

(01:48:01):
mentioned it when he chatted with him, but he's going
to return from injured reserve plate tomorrow against the Minnesota Biking. Look,
he's got the quan. That the quan with a growing
and do you remember what the quan was? Um? No,
Jerry McGuire. Oh okay, do you ever see Jere McGuire? Yeah, yeah,
just a long long time ago. What year was Jerey McGuire?

(01:48:24):
Like nine seven? Wow, that's probably when Kwan Alexander was born? Right?
Was was? Was that close? Was that? I'm not even sure? Um,
let's see here, Jerry McGuire, what do you guys think
I was in high school? We'll get back down that one.

(01:48:47):
I brought it up. I brought it up. No, No,
I didn't know. It's a little bit I guess it's
a it's a little bit dated. I haven't seen a
long time. I do remember the Kuan, remember Show Me
the Body? And of course I remember Dogging Beach and
Smell Year. The release date was December thirteenth, nineteen ninety six,
which is practically ninety seven. I mean, okay, So I

(01:49:09):
guess the question is what's Kwan Alexander's birthday? And was
he named after the famous line from the movie Let's
find Out this is great radio by the way, musical
what is it? August third? Nope, So was very well
thought out and research on our part. Flying by the

(01:49:33):
seat of our pants. You never know what's going to
happen in the press. These pants aren't pressed. Vikings Road
receiver Adam Feeling expected to wear protective padding on his
injured ankle in Saturday's Division around against the Niners. Adam
Feeling what happened to his ankle? How did he get slice?
I don't know. I let's trying to figure it out myself.

(01:49:55):
I guess his glotes were shutting off and it caused
a cut shutting off that happened. These things do happen. Yeah,
will Fuller a game time decision? Uh against the Chiefs
according to Bill O'Brien, So it is what it is.
He does add a different factor to the Texans offense,
that's for sure. Don't you touched on this earlier, but

(01:50:17):
those that may have missed it. Josh McCown needs surgery
after he tore his hamstring off the bone in their
game against the Seahawks. One you want to talk about toughness.
Forty years old tears his hamstring off the bone and
finishes the game. Imagine if they would have won. I mean,
you would hope to have Carson Wentz back this weekend.

(01:50:39):
But then what do you do? Who is their third
string quarterback? Is Suttilt still there? Well, he is, but
he was hurt and so that's why they brought in
Josh McCown. So I don't think that he's eligible to
come back. Greg Ward was their emergency quarterback. I mean,
imagine if greg Ward caught that game winner against the
Washington Redskins and then played quarterback in the playoffs. Have
he been cut by the team? Practice on the practice

(01:51:01):
squad for the team. That would have been great. It's amazing,
super super LSU's board of supervisors had a change of
thought and hearts. Maybe the school will cancel classes Monday
and Tuesday at l s U. I don't understand the
Monday can't tailgating. Maybe they want to go down to Okay,
but like, don't you have a class in the morning.

(01:51:24):
Maybe it's just easier to eliminate the first two and
then tack on the last two at the end. Possibly,
but spring semester was scheduled to begin on Monday, first
time begin on Wednesday. Yeah, its first first, they should
have class, and they just have nobody. I shouldn't admit this,
but as I advanced in college, you learned to play
the game a little bit, and I may, you know,

(01:51:45):
may from time to time missed the first class Doug
of the semester and then just showed up at the
second class. And I did that once and we were
a hundred and ten pages into the book. So I
just dropped that class because, yeah, there was no way
I was going to catch up. Makes sense, Yeah, gotta
learn how to play the game. Then you sign up
for a new class and you totally have an excuse
on why you're not caught off, but you know, caught

(01:52:06):
up to date. Lakers forward Anthony Davis gonna miss the
night's game against the Mavericks because of his sore back.
But it wasn't it his button and the butt tuck. Sir.
Jimmy Butler fired thirty five grand t J Warren Grand

(01:52:27):
after they got into it earlier this week and a
heat Pacers game. I want to say it, when's the
next time those guys play. I don't know if you saw,
but Jimmy, Jimmy, uh, Jimmy Butler tweeted out when the
next time they played was because he was super excited
about that matchup. I do not follow Jimmy Butler, so
I missed. But I did see that. I did see
on I saw it on some television. I did see

(01:52:47):
his postgame comments of like, you know, you know, I'll
see you again. Dwayne Wade expected to accept a significant
role with C A A Basketball, according to Yahoo Sports.
So Danny, it's me an agent now, I don't know
a significant role. Now? She didn't buy Lebron's agency, did it?

(01:53:10):
Who was that? Who bought Lebron's agency? I thought it
was like, that's a different one now. Their rivals and
agents the weird, weird, and that's the press. Goold, wrap up, John?
That was great? Could work? John? All right? Call one

t A that purchased Clutch Sports. And I will go
with the Minnesota Vikings. Why not Vikings? By are you
going Minnesota Vikings? Because Dan's always right, I'll go with
my Seahawks. Why not shock the world? All right? What

I think the Vikings are gonna I think it's gonna
be a really good game. I think they're very talented team.
They're kind of mirror images of each other as well.

(01:53:56):

as well. And Dalvin Cook is he's a beast. He's
a beast. We can all be wrong. I think Tennessee
gives up. There's a chance Tennessee gives him a game,
but not a great one. Have a great weekend. Check
