Baker or Mayfield is going to join us in what
fifteen minutes? Fifteen minutes Baker Mayfield, former number one overall pick,
Heisman Trophy winner quarterback Cleveland Browns, will ask him about
(01:11):
putting con cowherd in a bodybag. Uh in in very
very short short order. Um, Rob Parker's here has not
moved to Mexico yet, although I believe his bags have
been packed by the Patriots pr staff. We got a
ton to get to Chris Long. Of course, uh played
with the Patriots when they want a Super Bowl, then
(01:31):
played with the Eagles when they want a Super Bowl.
UH is gonna join us upcoming in about thirty minutes
or so on the show. But today is the day.
And last week people were freaking out about Roger Goodell.
When's Roger Goodell gonna say something? Well, if you know
the way the deal works. Roger Goodell every year on
on Wednesday gives the proverbial State of the NFL Union Address,
(01:57):
and he had this to say earlier today on the
mis call in the NFC Champion You game. It's a
play that should be called. We're gonna make sure that
we do everything possible to address the issues going forward
and and see if their improvements that we can made
through instant replay or anything else. I understand the emotions,
but I understand the stage, and I understand the importance
of it to New Orleans and to this franchise and
(02:19):
to the NFL. I made them aware of the fact
that I was committed to doing everything possible to think
outside the box and try to come up with solutions. Yeah,
I mean look. He was also asked, you know why
he hasn't spoken about He's like, look, we called Sean
Payton right after the game, like our of run who's
in charge of the officials, called him right after the
(02:42):
football game, not the next day, not the next week.
He called him right enough to get a matter of
fact before the press conference. Have you ever heard of
that in sports ever? Like all you ever want to
hear is somebody go, my bad. We screwed up right,
and the NFL did that, which only proves the point
that I've had for a long time, which is you're
(03:04):
you're literally in a no win situation if you're the commissioner.
Like like, people hate the commissioner for reasons, basically because
he makes a lot of money, and he makes a
lot of money because people don't understand what his job is.
His job is to make the owners a bunch of
money and have a healthy league, and they do. He's
(03:24):
got two teams that moved to l A. Both those
teams had to pay relocation fees. He's got a team
with Vegas. They gotta pay to look relocation fee and
guess what you expand in the l A market That
helps the league All that money goes to the rest
of the team's same thing with the Vegas money, and
all that money is gonna help pay off this concussion lawsuit,
which came in light of two billion dollars. Oh, then
(03:47):
Any expanded to Thursday night football. Then he split Thursday
Night Football into two. And then when the ratings were
down with NBC and CBS, he told Fox, Hey, guess
what you can have it. You can actually pay more money,
and they did. They gave him a unter schedule and
guess what it worked. Oh and he's playing games overseas,
those of success. Why because it's a new TV window
(04:10):
that the TV affiliates don't get charged for. He's playing
in Mexico. See like this, Dude's because that's his job,
is the business side. And when there's an officiating call,
he's got a guy for that who took the bullet
for those officials and picked up the phone and called
and when it was the proper time to address it
in public, he did. This is what we do. You know,
(04:36):
we like our congressmen. We don't like Congress. We don't
like any of the commissioners except for maybe Adam Silver,
who people like. Even though Adam Silver's League right now
is being laughed at because you've got a guy who's
a start in the league, who's a year and a
half away from having his contract run out, and he's
demanding to be traded. Like I thought, Rogerndell came out
(05:01):
looking great, and then he pointed out to take a
list of Roger Goodell talking about the potential changes to
officiating crews. I don't think adding an official is a
an answer to all the issues, and to particularly this issue.
We have evaluated an eighth official. It's on the Competition
Committee agenda and has been uh and so we will
just explore that. But I think that in and of
(05:22):
itself is not just going to be a simple that
will avoid all mistakes. Adding another an eighth official is
one more human, one more human than will make mistakes
like all the rest of us. When has another opinion
ever made things easier? You tell me that time when
remember the remember the dress thing, Remember the dress thing
(05:42):
on the internet. Was it was it blue or was
it wasn't? Or is it white? Or was it gold? Right?
Or something like that? Remember the dress thing. And the
more people you ask, the more answers you got, and
none of the answers were right. None of the answers
are right. It's like this massive weather system which is
(06:02):
going through the Midwest, which if you listen to us
in the Midwest, God bless you. You know, like, sorry, man,
I can't do I couldn't can't do it. Yes, you
are just tougher than us. Those of us who that
the idea that you can't go to school because you're
supposed to stay inside, think about that. We live people
in this country live in parts of the planet where
(06:24):
you know what, it's so cold, just stay inside for
the entire day. Is it snowing? Not? Really? Is it
raining no? Is it ice? No? It's just so damn
cold you cannot go outside. That's crazy. That's crazy. But
if you asked fifteen weathermen what what one storm is
gonna do, you're gonna get fifteen different answers. So the
(06:44):
idea of hey, I gotta, I gotta, I gotta, I
gotta solution here, let's have another ref that'll fix it. No,
that's just another opinion. And you could say, well, it's
another eye in the sky. And you can you can
review things like judgment calls. But what happens when you
(07:05):
review judgment calls, guys are hesitant to make a judgment,
you'll have the opposite of the intended effect. That's what
always happens always. You know, one of the things that
happens in the Nation Football League if you watch the games,
and this will happen to the Super Bowl, su it
happens in college football. Have you noticed that no one
(07:26):
blows the play dead anymore? Have you noticed that he
even knows. You're watching an an NFL game, watching a
college football game, and the guy gets up and keeps running,
and then they'll like start blowing the whistle, or maybe
they don't. Do you know why nobody blows the whistle
because they don't want to be the guy that blew
it dead. And then replay has them blowing it dead
(07:47):
when the play wasn't dead. That's exactly what will happen
if you add the ability to change judgment calls like
past interference. I told you last week. Okay, how are
back in the play? Can we go to see if
a penalty was committed? Because a lot of the p
I s a lot of defensive past interference. The wide
receiver runs around the wide receiver, pushes off the wide receiver,
(08:11):
then is open and the defense closes the space that
was created by the push off. And we want to
judge only the push off. I mean, we want to
judge only, uh, the last second of the play instead
of the entirety of the play. So when can replay
go back to the start of the play or in
only the end when the penalty was called? And oh yeah,
by the way, if you're gonna wipe off penalty flags
(08:32):
that our judgment calls in the game, you know it's
gonna happen. No one's gonna call a penalty. Do you
want to be the guy that throws the flag that
gets picked up? Of course you don't. It's the same
reason most people don't raise their hands when a teacher
asks a question in class. You know me the guy
that gets it wrong, you know, want to be that guy?
(08:54):
What's the capital of the state of California? You raise
your hand, You're like Los Angeles? Ha ha, Like all right,
how do you remember to a Sacramento? Helena Montana? Right,
Helena Montana? Uh, Pierre was South Dakota? Is that right?
South Dakota? I don't know. My point is, when has
(09:14):
more ever been more? It's not less is more unless
it is more as a cliche because it's overused. You
know what, it's because cliche, it's overused because it's true. Hey,
you know what, we haven't what what what roder Adell
said was football games played on a football field by people,
and it's officiated by people, and people are imperfect. And
(09:37):
what he should have said is we have a really
good game, and people search for perfection. It doesn't exist.
And so yeah, we screwed it up, But so did
Sean Payton or Drew Brees. Not running the football on
first down, second down, third down, just taking a knee,
run the clock down, kick the field goal. Oh yeah,
by the way, you could have gotten to stop and
(09:59):
then you got the ball back the start of overtime,
and you could have not thrown a pick, and then
you could have gotten to stop again, and you didn't.
He didn't say all of that. He said, hey, we
screwed up. We didn't wait as soon as they ran
off the field. Al River Roun, who's in charge. That's
under his purview, not mine. It's his job, and he
admitted mistakes so that when Sean Payton went to the
(10:21):
DAIS he could say, I just talked to Al River
run and they said they made a mistake. Have you
ever heard that in the history of sports. Never, It's
never happened in baseball. It's never happened in college basketball,
college football, or NBA basketball. NBA basketball, they have the
last two minute report. It comes out like a day
or two later. They have one official for both baseball
(10:44):
and football football, baseball and basketball who meets with the
media after the game and says he has, like the
pool reporter, what did you see? But that's not even
the end all be all. These reports usually come out
a day or two later. The NFL was on top
of it, and yeah, it sucks. Sucks here you're sayings fan,
(11:08):
it does. It would have sucked to your Rams fan
and you had a past interfering, you had a face
mask on the call before that wasn't called. And Rams
fans obviously don't have room to complain about it now
because they're playing on Sunday. But of course nobody likes
Commissioner because he makes a bunch of money because his
league UH is an out of control, free training success.
(11:31):
And this is what we do as what we do
at Farmers. We've seen almost everything, so we know how
to cover almost anything. When it's game time, have an
experienced player come to help you stay ahead of the game.
Put their experience in the play at farmers dot com.
Fers he goes from walk on twice over to number
one overall pick in Heisman Trophy winner. What a story. Oh,
(11:54):
and the guy who's resurrecting the Cleveland Browns, Baker Mayfield,
joins us upcoming next. He is the franchise quarterback who
seemed to immediately changed the culture of arguably the most
dysfunctional franchise in the sport. How do you do it?
I'm gonna ask him up coming next. But first, everyone
knows untucked shirts. How untucked replaced the sloppy smock look
(12:16):
of an untucked dress shirt with shirts designed to be
worn untucked. A lot of people think that untucked shirts
fits so well they must be made for bodies that
came out of a magazine. It's untrue. Untucked shirts fits
so perfectly no matter what's your body type. Taller guys,
shorter guys, thinner guys, wider guys, even long torso guy.
(12:36):
The untucked shirt designers have mastered the proportion, determined how
your shirt falls for that just right length, and the
neat casual look for all shapes and sizes that leaves
other brands behind. And now Untucked has just introduced a
new relaxed fit option for bigger guys who want the
same polished casual look of untucked. Log onto untucked dot com,

I can't think of any more pressure on a kid
than one Baker Mayfield has gone through, and he seems
(14:02):
to thrive in a little bit of chaos. To me,
I'm from walking away from Texas Tech to Oklahoma and
walking back on and then winning the job, winning Heisman Trophy,
being a finalist three times, beating for a national title,
and then be the number one over pick. He supposed
to be the savior in Cleveland, and they have a
coaching change mid season and dysfunction within the offensive offensive
(14:24):
prep room, right, just function within. You had Todd Haley
not get along with Hugh Jackson and there they both
get fired. And what did you do with he set
the rookie touchdown record? How about that Baker Mayfield joining
us on behalf of PEPSI in the two thousand and
eighteen NFL Rookie of the Year Award. Baker, thanks so
much for taking time. Um, did you won the Heisman Trophy?
(14:44):
You get drafted First, over all, you you turn around
the Browns, your coach she gets fired, Your offensive coordin
here gets fired. What's this world wind been like for you?
It's exactly what you said, a whirlwind. I mean a
lot of things have happened, you know, in the past
year and some Shaw Angel, It's been unbelievable really and
I've been a dream come true. Um, trying to kind
of look back on it now and now that I
(15:06):
have a time to really breathe and be thankful for what,
you know, what I've been blessed with. If you could
go back and go, I want a mulligan on one thing,
what would it be? Oh? Um, there's there's too many
to just just pick one. Um, it's it's gotta be
that that last drive against the Ravens, you know, missing
(15:28):
the out route to Jarvis on the inside and um
not converting on on earlier down to be able to
we weren't in a situation where you had to going
for it and forth. Okay, if there's one thing that
you take great July pride in that hasn't gotten it's
do right like like uh, you had that really funny
bit with Cooper Manning about the about the Bengal. Right, Like, dude,
(15:51):
I owned that Bengal. Right, I'm a Brown. I owned
the Bengal that was. It was awesome. There's other things
that that people that that you know that other people don't,
that that you wish people would recognize. What would it be? Um?
I think you know how much fun I'm having with it?
You know, I'm I'm being myself and like it or not,
Like you don't have to like it. I'm not looking
for approval, but I'm really living out a dream and
(16:13):
I truly believe that. And so I'm trying to enjoy
every single day, um, and trying to inspire others and
you know, have a have a you know, inspirational feel
on on other people and be a role model. Um.
You know what too, have a confidence level. Just be yourself,
be proud of who you are, don't be ashamed of it.
Did you read the Seth Wickersham article on what's going
on behind the scenes at the Browns the past couple
(16:34):
of years and into this year. I did not, but
I was told by a lot of people what it was. Um.
They said it was pretty long. Um, and You're like,
I'm I'm like, I'm there now. It's about what's going
on right now. The past is the past, and for
people to you know what, the past doesn't matter right now.
It's about what we're gonna do for the future and
(16:54):
what we're doing right now. You're your new head coach
is the interim offensive coordinator, but he was the running
backs coach at the start of the year. Like, like,
you want to talk about an ascension. I mean, I
don't know between you starting as a freshman as a
walk on at Tech and a guy going from a
running back coach to the head coach of the Browns. Um,
when did you When did you know? Like this dude,
(17:15):
cadn't do it? Um just talking to him seeing uh,
you know where he was at mentally. You know, he
was the QB coach in Arizona, and so when I
had conversations with him, he was very smart new ball obviously,
but then how he was able to relate to all
the guys, uh, get them to believe themselves and just
get everybody on the same page. And so I think
(17:36):
that was the most important thing and I was most
impressed with that was he went from obviously that running
back job where he was only affecting what three or
four guys, and then he came the offensive coordinator and
he had the whole thing, and then now he's the
head coach. It's just how he's able to adapt. Would
still be that same person, still be that same guy
that everybody believes in. It don't change. And he is
that guy. Uh Chub told us, he said, you do
(17:58):
you you get on him because he's so country, right
he like he's now the head coach and he is
from Alabama. Yeah that that you just you you ride
him that how country is. But that's kind of that's
kind of what you talked about. And it's kind of
one and the same with can you be a a
quarterback and talk trash to the other team? Can you?
(18:20):
Because like no one does that. I mean, no one
watched Philip Rivers ever play. I mean, like everybody acts
like what I do is so jaw dropping. I mean,
you watch some of these guys. You gotta be a
competitor out there. I mean you watch Tom Brady, He's
very competitive. You know. Everybody expresses in different ways. But
I am who I am and that's how I express it.
I'm gonna let you know that I want to beat you, obviously,
that's everybody's goal is to win. But I'm gonna make
(18:42):
it loud and clear. I'm gonna try and get in
your head, and I'm still gonna do my job on
the side. And I think that's what everybody's worried about.
His Quarterbacks normally don't talk trash because they have their
job to worry about. But I've been able to do
it to where I can talk trash and then still
get my job done. And I think, you know, if
there comes a time where I'm not getting my job done,
I won't i won't be talking. Kyler now is considering football, right,
(19:03):
and uh like he took what you did and then,
by some people's estimation, maybe even topped it right. Dead
dudes are freak. But people said that you're small. Tyler
is really small. So what do you think that what
do you think that the challenges are for him at
the level that you now know and you now played
at um finding windows throw But you know what I
(19:24):
said it last year when I was going through the
draft process, we had an NFL sized offensive line, So
throwing over people finding windows is something that we had
to adapt to and we're used to. He's been doing
it his whole life. And when it comes down to it,
people can say what they want. The kid can hill
time out at four three and forty if he runs it. Yeah,
he's strong, really strong, great leader, and he's a winner.
(19:46):
Most importantly, uh An nfl GM told me, he said, look,
he's Doug Flutie with Mike Vix athleticism. Absolutely absolutely, and
that's that's true. Yeah, And and I also said that,
and he also and I've been, I've been. Now people
are starting to come around to it. I want you
to know him. The I was the first to go, like, hey,
the whole baseball thing. You get paid some money up front,
but you don't make real money until like year five
(20:08):
or six. Whereas if your draft, if he's a first
round pick, he gets money right away and he's a
pro right away, and he starts that clock towards that
second contract exactly. But it's not even about the contract thing.
To me, it's about you know, him wanting to play football,
him wanting to do that. He's passionate, he's passionate about both.
But um, riding around in a minor league bust around
the country doesn't sound very fun. And I think that's
(20:29):
what it comes down to for him is being able
to compete and live out his dream. And I think
that's funny. In the NFL, what's the secret sauce for
for turning going from almost winning twinning. Obviously there was
a coaching change, but like, look, when you got there,
there's always the sense of the Browns are gonna screw
it up, right, the Browns always lose, And then you
got to no, no, but that's what it was when
you got there, right won one game two and then
(20:50):
at the start of the season you should have a
first game of year, you should have won, right, and
you said, like, ah, they're the Browns. They still can't
kind of figure out what's the seat. How did you
turn that from expectations being something bad would happen to
expectations being something good would happen. Because that's what happened
in the middle of the season, even more so than
the coaching change. But it wasn't just me um Well,
we had the right pieces. We just need guys to
(21:11):
believe in it, you know, to trust each other and
to you know what, realized what we had in the
locker room and just come together. And I think that
was the most important thing, was you could feel the
energy before the season within the locker room, guys realizing
all right, we got some key players, We've got all
of this and let's put it together and just you know,
finding ways to win is the most important when people
haven't done it in a long time, and then building consistency.
(21:34):
Do you feel any any sorrow at all for putting
my boy cowhert in the body back? None? No, none
at all? Uh Baker Mayfield joining us, He's up for
the PEPSI Rookie of the Year's finalist. He Nick Chubb,
Philip Lindsay, Darius Leonard Say, Kwan Barkley, No, Dorwan James
who also could be beyond this list. Um, to live
up to the hype like your number one pick and
(21:54):
many people. I thought Sam Donald would go one. Overall,
it's he's not on this list to live up to it.
That has to. That has to for a guy who
loves to prove people wrong. You're proving the Browns right,
aren't you by being on this list? Um? You know what,
I set my own expectations and so that's that's the
most important thing for me. Um. You know what, I'm
glad they took a chance and believed in me, and
(22:15):
so for me now um being able to do that
for them, and then I gotta take the next step.
You know, I'm not satisfied with what we've done. We
didn't even have a winning record, but you know, there's
change being made and that's the positive thing to look at,
and so we gotta build on that and keep going
and keep going. What's the one thing you have to
do to improve? Uh, take care of the ball and
just put us in a good position to win every game. Man.
(22:37):
Unbelievable year, unbelievable. And you seem to be having a
lot of fun with him, which is what it's all about.
Like if I was in your position, like you know what, dude,
I'd be having a lot of fun with it as well.
I can't wait to see the next photos spread. Thanks
for joining us, Baker Mayfield, joining us here on the
Dug gott leaps you on Fox Book Radio. It's kind
of choking there, guys. Can we get him some wen
be a bigger some water water water dam buyers coming
(22:58):
up to do guests, get some there you go, Yeah,
all right, there, you got good at that one. That's
that's it's happened this week. But hey, my wife always
writes the initial on top of the water bottle for everyone,
so it's a habit that I've got to do. You
talked a lot about Roger Goodell's state of the League,
if you will, at the top of the show, so
(23:19):
we're gonna push that aside and focus on the actual
game on Sunday, Rams Patriots getting closer and closer. Rams
come in with only four players with Super Bowl experience
on their team, and Dominican Sue is not one of them.
Nine years in, this is his first appearance in the
Big Game now being in my ninth career, my ninth
dear excuse me. It's all about having an ability to
(23:42):
support other people around you as well as playing at
a high level and win a championship, and he gets
to support the best defensive player in the NFL and
Aaron Donald coming up on Sunday. Sue did reveal today
that head coach Sean McVeigh was late for the team
bus for their media availability on Tuesday and joke that
McVeigh should get the max fine, whatever that fine would be.
(24:03):
Former Fox Sports radio host and NFL defensive coordinator Rob
Ryan is joining the Washington Redskins is there inside linebackers
coach former Arizona head coach in Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike

We'll be back to the Doug Gottlieb showed live at
Super Bowl fifty three and ten seconds. But first, a
word from farmers. From a dog accidentally flooding a living
room to a dog taking a joy ride, we've covered it.
Talk to farmers. We know a thing or two because
we've seen a thing or two. We are under written
my Farmers truck fire insurance exchanges then affiliates products unavailable
in every state. Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to
(25:16):
you live from Atlanta. Chris Long is going to join
us in the Philadelphia Eagles. He'll join us in about
seven or eight minutes or so. Of course, won a
Super Bowl with the Patriots, won a Super Bowl with
the Eagles. Why can't you win another Super Bowl with
the Eagles? Huh? Gotta be a Chris Long problem. If
Chris Long's reason, they want to put it to begin
with kidding. He'll join us about seven or so minutes. First,
let's get to a game, sake. This is game time
(25:42):
on the Doug Gottlieb Show, Dan byro What do you got, Doug?
The game today is real news? Fake news? Okay, real news,
fake news, Commissioner Roger Goodell edition. So outside of the
past interference called there are a lot of other topics
that Commissioner or Goodell addressed today in that State of
the League address real news are fake news? Dog that
(26:04):
Commissioner Roger Goodells San Diego is a viable option for
the Raiders to play games in in nineteen that sounds
you are. Says that they needed decision soon and Mark
Davis's preference would be to be in the Bay area.
Really didn't even address address these specifics. It's called the
answer non answer, Yes, Senator, Senator, we will address that
(26:28):
at the appropriate time. I thought this was the appropriate time.
It will be the appropriate time when we stay at
the appropriate time, not the appropriate time while we're speaking
during an appropriate time. Hopefully decision on the Raiders will
come soon, according to Goodell, because they gotta get a
schedule out in mid April usually, so that's a decision
that they would like to have UH sooner rather than later.
(26:49):
Real news or fake news? Commissioner Goodell says it's on
the league's shoulders to allow opportunities for Colin Kaepernick to
get back into the league. Is that real news or
fake news? You are fake news? It is? He says.
It's a team decision, and if a team feels a
player can help them win, they'll sign them, simple as that.
I believe it. I believe it to be true. He
as hasn't played football a couple of years, and we
haven't seemed to go to anybody's UH to visit anybody
(27:11):
since the Seattle Seahawks, right, and he's gonna visit Baltimore
until his girlfriend at the time put out that meme
about the owner of the of the Ravens. Real news
are fake news. Commissioner Goodell says even though recent charges
against Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster were dropped, he still could
be punished under the Personal conduct policy. Spectacular. Yeah, again,
(27:34):
this is the debate that we talked about. Wasn't charged,
but still they'll have to see if he violated anything
in that policy. It's a bad deal. I mean, what
for for all parties considered? You know, and of course
he's a property of the Redskins, but he wasn't charged
with a crime. This is the second time the same
woman has decided to not press charge. The first time
they she didn't want to press charge. I think second
(27:56):
time they didn't find enough evidence right to to support it.
Part of that is why the NFL says, it's sometimes
the alleged victim does not want to testify, so it
makes it difficult for the prosecution to go forward with
any charges. So there's a there's a reason why the
NFL at least has that personal conduct policy, saying even
though he isn't charged from what they find, they could
(28:19):
still penalize the player. Real news are fake news. Commissioner
Roger Goodell says they are focused on European expansion for
the NFL product and not elsewhere you are it is.
Goodell says there will be some big news in the
next couple of months when it comes to China. Expect
possibly a preseason game and know the NFL is has
(28:40):
approached that recently that I had to call it off.
But China could be in the future following the Netflix,
right like first Europe, then Mexico, then China, pretty soon
to be Indonesia. Real news are fake news. Commissioner Roger
Goodell says, well, things have gone great so far forward
Atlanta as a Super Bowl site. It's too early to
tell if they will get another one soon. There's a
bunch of other cities also have an interest in hosting.
(29:02):
But a bunch of other cities have built new stadiums
and they're in warmer climates and so the answer is
no there and they're spectacular. It's a new option option. See,
but yeah, that's real news. Yes, there is not going
to be. You can't always It's like you know what.
These three days have been awesome. You get it in
four years. No, it's not gonna happen. They also don't
have the bid process like they used to with one
(29:23):
competing against another. Uh. Finally, rulers are fake news. Oh,
rule news are fake news. I've had Chick fil a
for lunch and barbecue for dinner in the past two
days of Super Bowl week. That sounds like real news.
They're real and they're spectacular, and it was spectacular. It
was what's what's what's the order? I go original chicken sandwich,
no pickle and fries and cherry coke pick and then
(29:50):
I asked for a packet of honey, and I put
honey on the Chick fil A sandwich and eat that
strong order. It would be better if it was it
was a biscuit with that right, biscuits and honeys. Very Southern,
very Southern way of eating it. Very true, very true.
Still pickles, See, I don't like pickles, but I like
pickles on a chick Fili is game time on the
(30:12):
Dug Godlime Show. Kind of like kind of like jelly,
Like I don't I've never sought out jelly, but peanut
butter and jelly is pretty outstanding. It's really really good,
be really really good. Um, it's the opposite of women's basketball.
I love women. Women are I have three? Oh well,
my mom my wife, my two girls are twelve years older,
(30:33):
young women. I love women. I like the women's movement,
women's lip all the women's stuff. All right. I love basketball,
everything about it. I don't like women's basketball. I'm not
a huge fan. John Rominson is a podcast on the
Yukon Louisville game coming up, so he breaks it down.
He doesn't really. Jeff Schwartz makes a guest spot on
who he doesn't He doesn't really does he know? Yes,
(30:57):
it's the opposite. Sometimes you combine some things, you know.
I love pizza, I love I love pizza. I love
ice cream. I don't want ice trema pizza. I love
women of the basketball. They not not really that combo.
I don't love jelly. I don't love pickles. Pickles on
a Chick fil a sandwich for whatever reason, just works.
It gives it a certain freshness to it. I love
(31:17):
be frost, I like I like saunas. I'm not gonna
eat a be frost in a sauna. You know, it's
not gonna happen you like a bee frost. Hey, how
cold is in your hometown today? It was, well, the
power went out for about four hours. It was twenty
two degrees. What do you do? You you like yourself
on fire? Luckily my mom's place was spare. Power stayed on.
(31:40):
But I think the last time I checked it was
eight below. Oh is that it? Oh? Eight below? I
mean what is? It was warming up but it was
twenty two and then you got the wind chill added
with that, that's the problem. How do you feel about
how do we feel about giving windchill its own distinction? Right?
If you walk outside and it feels like it's minus
twenty two, isn't it minus twenty two? Well that's that's yeah,
(32:01):
So you think the actual should be wind chill if
it feels because I got a lot of text last
night feels like fifty four below, feels like fifty one below, Yeah,
I cannot. I can go with that. I could go
with that, because then that's worst case scenario. I think
you're onto something, Doug because then when the wind doesn't blow,
you're like, hey, it's a lot warmer than it's gonna
warm up to the right in a couple on Sunday.
(32:23):
But Sunday they will be running around in their bikinis
in Meryl, Wisconsin because it will be in the forties.
Two times they're both champion. Chris Long joins the show.
He won it with the Pats. How they do it?
He beat the Pats last year. How do you beat him?
We're gonna ask him next. Be sure to catch live

Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Our next guest is
too super Bowl rings one of the Patriots and then
one beating the Patriots last year. Of course plays for
(33:26):
the Philadelphia Eagles. He's Chris Long. He joins them Doug
Gotli Show. And he's always trying to save somebody, right,
whether it's whether it's the Water Boys and trying to
save people in Africa and get them clean water, or
save me some money, right, like he's here on behalf
of uh freebird Messaging. Which wait, does it save me
money when I use its saber and lift? So it
saves you money and it probably keeps you out of
(33:48):
some really bad situations. So what I love about it
is it incentivizes safe party in in my opinion. Uh,
you know you can use it in conjunction with Uber
and left. It's a cash back rewards mobile app. I
download it. Uh if you download it and punch in
go along, that's the promo code. Please punch that one
in because that helps me out. Uh. You're gonna get
(34:08):
ten dollars towards your first ride to a party. Uh
this week on Super Bowl Sunday. What's so cool is
you get ten dollars towards your ride to a Super
Bowl party and ten dollars towards your ride back, So
there's no excuse me. So at the end of the day, like,
I'm excited about, you know, the partnership. I'm excited about.
It aligns with what I believe in. And uh, I
think it's just pretty cool. It's a cool concept and
it's gonna keep you safe. I want to ask you
(34:29):
a bunch of fun questions, but I asked you a
couple of hard ones. I wouldn't be doing my job.
Report came out a couple of weeks ago that Carson
Wentz got a little diva to him. That and that
some of the guys like, you know if that's a diva, right?
You know, I like I like, we like Nick. I
like Nick. I mean, I know Nick. I play basketball
with him a little bit in the off season. Good.
He's very good. Yeah, he's good. I mean, dude can
(34:50):
really shoot. It's big. Um. Can he can play? Um?
But I'm I'm in lotcht up with with the Eagles
net Like, look, the dude was gonna win the when
the m v P before he got hurt. Takes a
while to get back, and you guys had to fix
some things to your defense. When the team really got
back what's what's really going on until de what's really
like in regards to how the locker room feels about
(35:11):
the quarterback situation? Well, to me, and you know, this
is a ten day old story. So my thing is
like the more I talk about the more I give
it legs, and like my thing is and no, no,
no no, And that's just me telling you what I
what I have to say as a teammate now. But
like also I'll speak plainly, Carson has been a great teammate. Um,
and Carson has been somebody who has really loved in
(35:32):
that locker room and respected. And I'm not a big
fan of anonymous sources. But you gotta do, you man,
whatever whatever you gotta do, that's that's your right. I'm
not a fan of it. Um, And Carson played hurt
all year and and he's our franchise quarterback. That doesn't
mean you can't love Nick and think he's a legend
in Philly forever. I mean those two concepts aren't mutually exclusive.
People struggle with with that. Um, why wasn't this year
(35:54):
the same? I remember I remember at the at the
remember at the rally, I remember Kel's and calling people
out and I was just like, look the idea and
even Lane saying, you know, we're gonna have fun, even
if it's only once. You know from the outside, like, man,
it's really hard to come back and do it again.
But why why was it so different this year? Well?
(36:16):
I think for a few reasons. I think it's really hard.
As you mentioned in general, I mean, look at look
no further than maybe one of the best quarterbacks of
all time, if not, you know, uh, he's got a
lot of records and Drew Brees. I mean, you know,
we watched what happened a week or two ago. It
took him almost a decade to get back there. Right, Um,
you know it's no foregone conclusion your team is gonna
be back there. I think last year people look at
it wrong. I think last year we were able to
(36:38):
overcome what would just kill most teams, and we were
the exception to the rule. Right. Um, this year we
had a lot of those same problems. And uh, you know,
in addition to starting uh the season with your franchise
quarterback not getting reps in camp. You know, the transition
from Nick after a couple of games to Carson never
being healthy to injuries too quarterback room. In terms of
(36:59):
the coaches, there's a lot of turnover, and how how
different is it when you're everybody's biggest game, Like, look,
people don't like the Eagles. Eagles are good rights, but
it's different when you're Super Bowl champion. Walking is it
or is it? Well? I think I think there's a difference.
But I think at the end of the day, if
you look at somebody saying, I hate playing the wood
a game, but we blew a couple of games in
the middle of the year that we had double digit leads,
you look at those games, we win those games. Um,
(37:21):
you know, there were three games in my mind that
we really let slip, and you know we end up
nine and seven. We win those three games. With twelve
and four, we have a home game, we might have
a buy. I don't know how the math worked out.
We probably actually wouldn't have had a buy. But everybody's
talking about Man, it's amazing that they were able to
get back and and and put this effort forth coming
off the Super Bowl. So at the end of the day,
(37:42):
I think, really, when you look at it, minus a
couple of bad two minute drives, were in a position
to be a hype team again. But a team that
doesn't love each other and and doesn't care about each
other and it isn't tough, would have never been able
to get back up after that four seven game down
in New Orleans and make that run the way we
did it. And and it wasn't like it was a
moral victory for us. We wanted to win the whole thing.
(38:03):
You talked about how hard it is, So how do
the Patriots keep doing this? Well? I mean it helps
to have that continuity of of Tom and Bill. I
mean to me, um, it's like hitting a lot o
twice and UM, they've had that for a long time.
But I think an underrated aspect of what they do
is their adaptability and UM. But I can't other people
Cappy that even do it for ninety years making other
(38:24):
people make their defense and their offense adaptable. So make
me a Tom Brady, which is just make one in
the lab. You can anybody, I mean. And then on
top of that, UM, you know, have the continuity UM
in coaching and scheme. But as you as we talked about,
they do adapt um, you know. I I just think
it's really hard to duplicate UM. And it's not hard
(38:45):
to duplicate for one year, but to do it year
after year after year. And that somebody asked me about
the Rams, like what advice we give the Rams and
playing the Patriots. You're not playing all fifteen Patriots teams.
You're playing this one. Focus on this one. Don't conflate
this one team. With all their successes, in my opinion,
minus one or two teams, they've never had a team
that was just far away better than the rest of
(39:06):
the league. And uh, that's what makes them good is
that they're always in position to win. And then you
give him Tom Brady, and you give him a great coach,
and they come up with a great scheme and they execute,
and they try to not make mistakes, and and they
take away what you do well and they played to
their strengths. For instance, last year. You look at the
team that they aired it out all day against US
last year in the Super Bowl. They're a totally different
team in the playoffs this year. I mean, you look
(39:26):
at the way their tackles are moving people off the ball.
You look at their commitment to the rung game. Their
first two drives to open you know, the divisional and
the championship rounds. I mean, that's been their tone setting
type of football they're playing right now. Yeah, it's it's
really really, really remarkable to watch. All Right. What about
the Rams, um, How good are they? I think they're
very dangerous? I think, uh, I think a lot of
(39:47):
people slept on them a little bit because of the
two back to back losses late in the season to
Chicago and to US where it looked like there might
be trouble in paradise and they might have peaked too soon.
But then you look at them in the playoffs, getting
big catches from a lot of guys I frankly hadn't
heard of, and uh and just making it work a
lot of the same way. You know, they're a little
bit more systematic offensively, but they showed how good Sharon's
(40:11):
system is throughout the playoffs. You you mentioned when you
guys beat him. You guys in the Bears both beat him.
Part of it was your defensive line, right, I mean,
you guys you know they're they're people are saying, well,
the offensive line is not as good what we guys
able to do to get after their quarterback against the Rams, Yeah, uh, well,
I I just felt like, you know, our d line
this year. Anybody get buckets. You know. That's kind of
the way we put it. Uh, you know, like we
(40:33):
like to we liked the goal is to be like
a Golden State type d line where it's like, whoever's
in the game, we can all rush. And that's one
unique thing about us. We have every guy can win
pass rushers and win one on ones and and when
you put us, you give us a lead at l
a like that, and we had that game and control
in the third quarter. Uh, You're gonna be able to
hit Jared a lot, You're gonna be able to affect
him a lot. And Uh, in my opinion, it starts
(40:54):
with the best, the best, our best player, which just
Fletcher College. Yeah, he's just an absolute, absolute monster. Underrated
the way again, it's free bird, right, free bird, and
uh you can download in the app store. We're on
Google Play and the code go a long obviously for
for Chris Long real quick. Um, your level of confidence
in Virginia in the tournament. I feel very good about it.
We were talking about it off air. I'm psyched. I
(41:16):
think this is this, I think this could be the year.
And I've said that a lot. Here's here's the thing right,
like one. I love Tony uh too. You look at Nova.
Remember Nova was like three years in a row. They
lost in the first weekend and then they just kicked
the crap out of everybody when they went to the
when the National Championship the first time. It feels like
this is that year, Like they do have more guys
(41:37):
that can score. I don't want to jinx it, but
you know, we talked about how Tony has adapted and
and they've done some things that have been really out
of character for them, but it's worked out really well
and I'm super excited to just see how that plays
out the rest of the football. Uh and football they've
been beat I mean that's twenty eight nothing game over
the SEC vaunted game Cox. I mean, why didn't they
use their SEC speed there to beat us? We'll talk
(41:59):
Lebron James and Kyrie Irving if Chris Long wants to co.

Super Week is brought to you by Amazon Fire TV.
Don't forget you can watch the Big Game on Fire
TV for free without cable. Uh what do we have
this hour? Ryan Music? We already had Baker Mayfield, we
already had Chris long Um, Danny A. Mendola of the
Miami Dolphins, another former New England Patriot will join us upcoming.
(42:42):
Uh so have Danny Amendola and we'll pop in with
Darren Ravelle. Get a little sense of the financial aspects
of the Super Bowl. What our tickets going for? You
want to pop on a flight from l A. Come
on down from Boston. You want to get out of
the cold, I mean relatively speaking, it's warmer here than
other places, although supposed to warm up over the week.
Can you want to come to Atlanta? What's gonna cost
you getting the building? And Um, it's supposed to be
(43:05):
a big announcement on China's at a preseason game. While
askervell I held join us. Later on this hour, Carson
Palmer set to join us. Carson Palmer probably a Hall
of Fame quarterback, look at the numbers. Um obviously got
hurt twice in two of his best seasons, But Carson
Palmer joined us third hour, so too, will Jamal Adams?
(43:25):
Who's the Pro Bowl MVP? Raise your hand if you
knew that Jamal Adams was the Pro Bowl MVP? Anybody did? Anybody? Well?
Ryan Music did because did you watch the Pro Bowl?
Or was when you booked him? That was in the airport.
In the airport and he was walking to his plane.
He was like, oh, probo MVP Jamal Adams. Cool, we
have him on Wednesday. Good, good, excellent. Anyway, So Carson Palmer,
(43:45):
Jamal Adams, darren Ville, Danny A. Mandola is gonna join us. Man,
I gotta talk some fly. I heard Carson Palmer's like
the biggest hunter fly fisher ever. Um m hm. Anyway, anyway,
here here's what I want to get to before we
get to football. There is a report from a guy
(44:08):
who I really really like and I think does have
good sources. Okay, but I think this one is wrong.
Rick Buker from Bleach Reports says a source close to
the Celtics says that Kyrie is genuinely interested in reuniting
(44:28):
with Lebron. Quote this is for real. I smell bull,
you know what? And I don't think it's Buker. I
think it's Buker using his source. Remember, as much as
buke is, he's been covering the NBA for years. This
(44:49):
is a one, not a multiple sources, and not Celtics
and not people close to Kyrie Irvy. My sources within
the Celtics tell me that this is Look what has
happened over the past couple of weeks with the Lakers.
Chris brus sorry, who also used to we all used
to work together over the other place. Chris Broussard reported
that Lebron's people said if it was the playoffs, he
(45:13):
could play. That was two and a half three weeks ago.
He still hasn't played in the game, which brings us
to the why isn't Lebron playing? Is it because he
wants to be healthy? I guess, But seventeen games he's
missed with a poll groin. Come on, come on? That
(45:35):
doesn't seem right, does it? So is he trying to
I told you I execute a coup data right, a
complete hostile takeover of the Lakers. Then there's a report
from Jackie McMullen, and what's the report say? Reports says
that Lebron would prefer a different coach, and then of course,
(45:57):
we had the reporter of this week that Anthony Davis
from Ajoran Wards and Ask had requested to trade and
only wants to go to the Lakers. And now there's
the Hey, Kybrie Irving, this thing is real, This thing
is real. This is all coming from the same place. Look,
if the Celtics really thought that Kyrie Irving might be
(46:20):
looking elsewhere, wouldn't they be trying to make a move,
wouldn't they? And all of these stories is the real
reason that Kyrie does not want any part of Lebron
James zero. He wants no part of it. You know why,
because there's it's nothing wrong with playing with Lebron James.
He can handle that. Lebron doesn't even want to take
(46:42):
the last shot Kyrie does. That's not the problem. The
problem is control. Lebron James wants to control everything. He
wants to control the media by leaking stories. He wants
to control the coach by getting his current coach fired. Hey,
if you don't like it, I won't play. I gotta
groin in. And this is a freak out from Lebron
(47:04):
James camp because the narrative you're hearing is real. Paul
George didn't want to come back to l A and
play for the Lakers. Kawhi Leonard doesn't want to play
with the Lakers. There's a pretty good chance Clay Thompson
doesn't want to come back and play for the Lakers
because he's fine. Kevin Durant, he said he doesn't want
the nonsense. This is the nonsense they're talking about. Fire
(47:25):
your coach. I prefer to play for a different coach. Like, dude,
the team is fine, that you can't make shots and
you're not healthy. How much better would the team be
if Lebron James was healthy. And Lebron James is healthy
enough to play, he's just not playing. Which is why
the Anthony Davis thing could work in l A. Because
(47:47):
they want to control the thing and they would have
the two biggest players on the roster under their control.
This is how they do it. This is how they roll.
And oh yeah, by the way, this is how they
messed up Cleveland. There was nothing wrong with Cleveland. Cleveland
want a title and they came back and what they do.
(48:07):
They gave way too much money to Tristan Thompson and
way too much money to j R. Smith. Remember that, Yeah,
And you're like, man, how come there so far over
the cap? Because they overpaid those guys who represents j R. Smith,
who represents Tristan Thompson Wait for it, Rich Paul. They
(48:29):
controlled the whole thing, and they screwed up the salary
cap and they made it so you have immovable contracts.
And then they went out and hey, you know what
we'll do. We'll go and get Duwayne Wade. He's my
best friend. And that was a disaster because what was
a cohesive locker room became dysfunctional because Lebron only hung
out with Dwyane Wade, their best friends, and they didn't
(48:50):
let anybody else inno their circle. And a guy who
was coachable previously by Tyron Loew, who he hand picked,
was suddenly uncoachable. Like, look, you can tell me Lebron
James a great player, I'd agree with you, because a
bad general manager. And he's got an he's got an
insecure and very very young agent who's his best friend,
(49:14):
trying to manipulate things much the way they did in Cleveland.
And this is why Cleveland was fine, going, We're good.
This is the halle Berry thing. How in the world
could anyone divorce halle Berry. What was the guy's name?
Really good looking dude who was married to halle Berry
is his second second husband. Uh, good looking guy and
(49:39):
he actually went to rehab for sex addition, sex addiction.
I mean, think about it. You're addicted to sex and
you're married to halle Berry. I believe his name is
Eric Banat, right, Like, Eric Bannet is a good looking
human being, and he's like, whoa Eric Bannet said Nick
the sex, but he wasn't having sex with halle Berry.
(50:00):
That sounds crazy to me, right, These like, if you're
addicted to sex and Hallie Berry's your wife, these feel
like good problems, first world problems. Right. How can halle
Berry not have more big time movies? She's beautiful, she's
a good actress, smart. How could she not stay married?
Some wrong there? How can Lebron James leave Cleveland the
(50:23):
first time? They're like, yeah, we'll write this note. How
can he leave Miami the second time? And they're like, yeah,
how can Phil Jackson say? You know, Lebron thing with
the posse and this is what they do. This is
why he wears out his welcome because it's just too much.
Kyrie Irving wants no part of that. Yeah you're gonna win,
and yeah you're gonna get the blame that they lose.
(50:44):
But I need, I need. When he has said, I
I love the professionalism of Boston. What that means is
I love they have a GM that's the GM. They
have a coach that's the coach, and they have the
players who are the players. And the players don't make
the decisions, and they don't undercut the author prey of
the GM or the coach or and they don't go
straight to ownership and try to manipulate the deal. That's
exactly what Lebron James does. And I don't care what
(51:07):
Rick Buker's source says, which coast to the Celtics. I'm
telling you Kyrie Irving wants no part of playing with
Lebron James for exactly the reasons, exactly the things that
have happened over the last week and a half, two
weeks coming from the Lakers camp. The Lakers were ahead
of schedule. The Lakers without Lebron beat the Warriors on
(51:28):
Christmas Day when he pulled his groin. Well, they lost
last night, and they they didn't have Kyle Kuzmre Alonzo
Ball and Lebron James. You don't have three starters in
this league against the against a team that could go
to the finals. They got beating them. Of course you're not.
(51:50):
But this report I'm telling you is wrong. And I
like Buker and I'm not telling you that his He
is simply reporting what he's hearing from somebody eels as
a source, and I'm I'm telling you that source. My
sources say the exact opposite. If the Boston Celtics really
feared that Kyrie Irving was going to leave, they would
(52:12):
make a move before the trade deadline. And they won't.
You know why, because they believe that all of what
has happened is exactly the reason that Kyry wanted out
of Cleveland the first time and has zero desire to
be in l A this time. He wants to pick
the players, he wants to pick the coach, he wants
to pick the general manager. He wants to pick everything,
(52:32):
and he wants it now, and he has no patience.
And he's thirty four. He's not a spring chicken. He's
getting older. Those nagging injuries are keeping him out more games.
You don't wan any part of that. This is a thanks,
no thanks, I'm good. Kyrie Irving is like the dealer
in Vegas. Right when they get done, they do this
(52:53):
thing with their hands. That's Kyrie. I'm done. Here at Farmers,
we've seen almost everything, so we know how to cover
almost anything at his game time, have an experienced player
to help you stay ahead of the game. Put their
experience into play. At Farmers dot com, we are Farmers.
Danny m and Dola joins us next. One to not
one two super Bowls with the Pats. What's the secret
(53:16):
now that he played against them twice a year this year?
What's it like this week to be a Patriot? And
the pain of losing? How does it match with the
joy of winning? He's done both. He'll join us next.

(54:00):
you will pay for the car you want. You can
recognize a good price when you're ready to buy a
new or used car. Visit troop Car and enjoy more
confident car buying experience. Mm hmmm. Doug Gottlip Show, Fox
Sports Radio. Let's catch up with the guy who's got
two Super Bowl rings and lost in the last year
(54:21):
Super Bowl and I had to play against the Patriots
a couple of times. This year's Danny Amendola of the
Miami Dolphins. He joins us on behalf of Genesis, the
official luxury vehicle of the NFL. Danny, thanks so much
for taking time. Man. When you see the paths get
into the Super Bowl and you were just here with
that group the year before, and you played against him
twice this year, what what like emotions go through your mind? Man?
(54:43):
As a competitor, you know, I want to be there
with my team, with the guys I've been training with
um and and you know it's it's a bummer not
to play in the game. So you know, I gotta
work actually hard this offseason, try to get try to
get uh try to get back there. But you miss it.
Oh hell yeah, I miss it? Yeah? What how do
they keep doing it? And I don't like I mean,
I look, I we understand the game planning to understanding Tom,
(55:05):
but man, how do you No one's done this nine times?
It is crazy? How do they keep doing it? It's
just their ability to prepare and uh, you know, I
feel like with the continuity they've always had with you know,
Mr Kraft, uh coach Belichick, Brady and then you know
they can they have the ability to throw on old
film and you can see how Troy Brown did it
(55:26):
with Tom Brady, can see how Wes Welker did it
with Tom Brady, and this is kind of like, hey, Danny,
this is what you should do. This is what you
know West did, This is what Julian's doing, This is
what you know Chris Hogan's doing. Stuff like that. So
you know, they have they've had the continuity with with
their quarterback, with their coach, with their owner, and I
feel like that's why you know they're you know, they've
been above the rest. When when you're watching the NFC
championship game? Are you doing what Romo is doing? Saying
(55:48):
where the ball is gonna go? He's does he's been
doing a great job. Man. You know I can't do
what he does. He sees he has ability. I usually
just watched the receivers and see how they're playing, and
then watch watch the quarterback. But um, you know he's
he's great at what he does. Did the did the
Chiefs screw up? Or is it just like look any
defense as a as a weakness they're are they played great?
(56:09):
I mean if they if if d Ford didn't line
up all sides and then you know they picked the
ball off to win the game. You know, it comes
down to one play, you know what I'm saying? So uh,
and it could go that game could have gone both
ways multiple different times, a couple of different turning points,
uh in the game. So, um, this this game coming
up is gonna is gonna be, you know, a thriller.
I'm sure too. Is there a is there a text
(56:29):
chain with the white wide white slot wide receivers? Do
you guys all have like a secret handshake like the
white slate under six foot undrafted? A lot of undrafted, right, Yeah,
we're no, no, we don't have one, but we probably
should start one, maybe a fraternity or something like. Yeah,
all have the same tattooed, not like the Q dog
tattoo that that the branding thing looks like it hurts. Yeah, yeah,
no question, no question. We'll get like a we wear
(56:51):
like a bracelet or something. I mentioned Cliff Kingsbury, I know, uh,
and knowing Cliff and knowing you a little bit, how
close you guys are. Um, what do you think that
challenges are going to be for him to to to
to use parts of his system and put it in
the NFL. I think I'm curious to you know what
I'm saying As a friend, you know, I would love
to try to help. I mean, right, we don't play
(57:12):
him next year, so so I'm excited to see what
he's gonna do. I know, he's he's an amazing uh
you know, he's he's he's great with players, he can
relate to players, uh and and whatever he's gonna teach
x Is and otherwise is gonna get through to them
and they're gonna believe in him. And I'm excited to
see where his future. Is he a true air raid
guy or is there because he also, like he played
in the league, so we understand that some of that
(57:32):
air raid stuff where you call the same place regardless,
doesn't necessarily work in the We've had this conversation. Uh,
and I think he's got to see what his you know,
what he gets in draft. He's gotta see what he
gets in free Agency's gotta see you know, his weapons
on offense, and he'll utilize the weapons, uh, you know,
to the best of their ability, so he won't have
a guy playing out of role, so to speak. So
(57:54):
and I know, I know he's gonna take whatever he
learned in New England, who's gonna be learned in in
New York overseas in college and in kind of apply
it and see where it fits. Do you have any
idea who your quarterback is gonna be you next year?
I mean, I haven't seen the contract situation. I know,
I know we got Tannehill, Ostweiler and uh and Fails
in the building. I'm not sure what their contracts are.
But you know, whoever, whoever they whoever they bring in,
(58:16):
whoever is competing, it will be um, you know, it'll
be it'll be a tough competitive atmosphere and um I'm
excited to see what's it like to play in this game?
We're we're Wednesday. Do you remember Wednesday of last year?
What you were doing? What? What? What? What goes on?
I remember, Shoot, we were in practice, practice prop. I mean,
it's it's all eliminating distractions. It's it's it's getting to
(58:38):
work in and then and then enjoying some of the
um some of the offseason. When it comes time. What's
it like to win this game? It's the best feeling
in the world. It's uh, it's it's the only reason
why I mean to go from from you. I mean, like,
grew up in Texas, dream of playing college football and
you go undrafted make it. You know, you had all
those injuries with with the Rams, just that your body
(59:01):
just let you down to win the Super Bowl, like
I so like when you if you close your eyes
you remember the winning. Do you remember the winning more?
Do you remember the losing it more? It took me
to lose one to even uh love the winning more. So.
I didn't know that I loved it as much as
I thought I did when I until I lost the
game last year. So I'm you know, it's it's honestly
(59:23):
it's it's what gets me up in the morning. I
remember after after winning it a couple of times, you
wake up with a smile in your face for like
a month, and it's like this is you know, it's
the best feeling to to win, to win the last
game of the year, and and it's it's it's what
drives me. Um, Okay, when's enough gonna be enough for Brady?
Like you mean, like at some point forever man, And
I know they can't, Like he got touched once and
(59:46):
it wasn't even the face best and they they call
a penalty. But still like, look like you point out
he did throw a pick and he threw two others.
And then there's also you know, he's got a wife
and kids. At some point you want to you know,
be more of apparent, like he invested in his Like
when when is it coming up? You know you gotta
I don't know, And he's not gonna tell you until
until he's until he were until he gracefully exit stage left.
(01:00:07):
So I think he's got a lot in the tank.
He's still playing at it, I mean obviously playing an
extreme at the highest of levels. So um, he's gonna
go until he wants to wants to stop. Um, what
the play? Obviously we thought we thought that was the play.
The Miami Miracle was the one that ended this run, right,
because then they'd have to go on the road. Yeah, yeah,
when did you when did you see it? Like we're young.
(01:00:28):
We was on the field. Yeah, I had a clear
out route. I didn't get the ball on the play,
but I had the best seat in the house probably,
And then Kenyan ran right by me after Kenny pitch
it to Devonte de' wante pitched to Kenyan just honestly
how we practiced it. And then I saw I saw
Kenyan one on one with Gronk, and I love Gronk.
He's my it's my brother. But I don't know, he
(01:00:49):
hasn't done tackling drills in a hot second. So and
and he looked really but he looked he looked like, um,
I'm trying to think. I don't know if you have
this a little before you you know, Empire strikes back.
You know those walkers that they fall down like that's
what he looked like. He would like he was on
still support guy trying to move louder like I mean,
he just was he was out of position. Why was
he in the game like it was a seven and
(01:01:11):
he's not gonna knock it down. I know, I'm sure,
I'm sure they you know, wish coach probably had that
one back. It's kind of interesting because Kenyan the game
I did with you guys with the Bears, he fumbled
at the one yard line to win in over Town,
would have would have won you get when won the
game in overtime, right to have that then to win
you a game, and you guys came back to him
in that game as well. It's pretty awesome, pretty awesome
to turn around for his season, no question. I just
(01:01:33):
remember how how heartbreaking he how heartbreak broken he was
after he put the ball on the ground. Uh, and
then he had a couple of big, huge runs on
the next drive to set us up for a field goal.
So he kind of you know, he's one of who's
honestly one of our best players. So um, you know
he you know, he's young, and he's learning and and
he's gonna get to where he needs to go. How
do you This is the thing that's always fascinating, like
(01:01:55):
last year or when any time you've been in the
Super Bowl and you're lining up and you read the
coverage and you know it's coming to me, right, you know,
how do you not let the moment and because those things,
like when you're on the field for an NFL game,
those things are coming in hot you no question, they're
coming in hot, they're coming in hard, and there's somebody
coming to hit you, especially with the routes that you run.
How do you do that? How do you manage all
(01:02:16):
the emotions and still just play ball? Well, it all
comes down to just doing your job. Honestly, we practice,
you know so much, and and I mean, the super
Bowl is a big game, but when you're in the
middle of the game, it feels like any other game.
You want to say, I mean, the stakes are higher
and you know that if you win then you're then
you're gonna be celebrating. If you lose, you're gonna be pissed.
But at the end of the day, it's this, it's this,
(01:02:37):
it's it's I mean, you have to play the game
just as you were playing practice. So they just you know,
you gotta build a foundation and practice, play practice hard,
and that comes game reality. How crazy is it that
a guy who's younger than you is coaching the other
team in the Super Bowl. It's wow. I've actually I've
hung out with him a couple of times in l A.
Great dude. Just you know, he's a good pure football
(01:02:58):
football uh in his blood man, And it's it's it's
great to see. I'm I'm I'm rooting for him. Really
good hair too, it's actually good hair. Like fade is
always tight, super super tight fade. Yeah, you can get
a good fade in l A too, if you want. Yes,
you can't, especially you know you make a cup mill.
I think you can. You can. You can find a
guy what it is like to be that to be
early thirties and have complete command and control. Yeah, he
(01:03:19):
does a great job. I've seen some of his interviews
and kind of how he conducts the team at the
end of each game. And and you know a guy
that you know, I know these players are playing hard
for um. Okay, So you're here on behalf of the
New Genesis, which is kind of the flagship that got
the G ninety, which is like you got me rolling
around the G ninety today. I'll tell you what. It's
luxury at its finest. It's it's fast, and it has
(01:03:41):
these deals that like if you you know, the back
like curtain thing so you can keep the sun off
your neck or like the sun off your like it's
it's crazy. It's like a little would you like being
you like being driving driven around or you like driving yourself? Personally?
I mean I like to drive. I love cars. I
like to drive fast. This car can this car? I
was in the G seventy for out a week and
I'll tell you what I got up to about a
(01:04:02):
hundred on the on the on interstate and he gets
a her Oh yeah, and smooth. You can't even tell
you're going that fast. It's it's pure luxury. I mean
that you told the officer this is pure luxury. Hop in,
I'll take you for spence with American North American Car
of the Year. Um okay, would you rather have a
driver or would you rather have a chef? That's a good,
(01:04:24):
that's a good, you know I think probably uh a
driver so you can kind of like you know, scroll
the Internet on your way to wherever you want to eat.
So you're good, okay, all right, all right, I like it. Uh, Danny,
thanks so much for joining us. Congrats on another season.
Thank you, We wish you were playing Sunday, but there's
a chance you'll be playing in on this in this
(01:04:46):
game sometimes really soon. Appreciate you pretty good to see you.
Pleasures all mind. Danny Amendela, good dude. And I can
only tell you this like I've done so I got
to do a sideline game this year, right. Uh. Four
Fox and one. Adam Gates was really cool and to
like Danny Amndola was just awesome. That's all you want
is somebody to be awesome to you and just tell
you what's really going on and and not not act
(01:05:07):
like you don't belong somewhere. And he was great, just great, insightful,
insightful guy. And Kingsbury is like his best friend being
a head coach. Uh. It's pretty interesting for the future.
Maybe after next year. He's one more year left in
this Dolphins deel, speaking of best friends's welcome to my
best friend. He's your best friend. He's Dan Buyer who's
(01:05:29):
showing off with his US Open Pro Am champions uh sweatshirt.
Did you think it was not just that I had
Champ put on the back in sequence and you think
that was a little too much? No, I thought I
thought the I thought the back tattoo was was a
little over the top, right, and the fact that you're
walking around in a championship belt, that's a little much
(01:05:53):
if it fits, If it fits. NFL conversation to Roger
Goodell held the state of the league addressed today. Was
asked multi up all times about that non past interference
call that occurred in the NFC Championship game. We address
this immediately after the game. We spoke to the coach.
The coach announced the conversation and the fact that this
(01:06:16):
play should have been called. The game of football has
played on the field. They're played by humans, they're coached
by humans, and they're officiated by humans. Uh, newsflash, humans
handle that. Good El said he never considered overturning the
outcome of the game. Also said adding an eighth official
could bring in another opportunity for human error, which was
just talking about right. More is never more, less is
(01:06:39):
sometimes more. Here's the thing about the like, do they
the eighth official? I don't think they needed on the field.
I think it's almost a seven plus one. Is you
need somebody else to be there to clean up the
stuff you can't You don't need to put another guy
on it. Yes, but this is what I kind of
explained earlier, is how hesitant are those guys going to
be to throw penalties if they be wiped off. They're
(01:07:01):
just gonna be interesting because I argue the exact opposite.
I think that the referee was afraid to throw the
flag in the NFC Championship game because he didn't want
to make the call in that moment. And that's why
Sean said it's a super Bowl call. Remembers he lifted
the super Bowl call because in the super Bowl they
don't they don't call those penalties. But look, here's the
here's the thing. If we have to review every penalty,
(01:07:25):
games can take forever. And oh yeah, by the way,
it's gonna totally change. Two minute drives totally change. I
think if you if you did it on a challenge system,
if you did it under two minutes, and if you
own under two minutes under play of the of the ball,
I think that that would be one. There are certain
penalties review. We can review play penalties that aren't called,
(01:07:47):
Like an example, was used on a touchdown pass. Can
you go and review with the line of scrimmage that
a holding was called? I don't think that's legitimate. I
think it should be a play on the ball, just
like you could make a you can review a breakaway,
but why you could Why if a guy is if
the path In the NBA, like you can look, something
is going to be affected with someone having the ball,
(01:08:07):
there has to be a limit to replay. They just
can't do it. Just he just can't. I just can't.
And and here's my big thing, which I haven't heard
anybody else mentioned about me, which is when does the
review start? Right? Like, how many past interference have you
seen where the the offensive guy creates contact, pushes off
and the defensive guys trying to catch up now and
so he closes up that space and that's when the
(01:08:29):
penalty gets called. Can we go back to when he
pushed off and then throw a flag that didn't exist previously?
I compare it to the NBA. I think when you
can decipher what's flagrant one, what's flagrant too, I think
you could find out if a past interference is egregious
or not. So Buck's wide receiver to Sean Jackson wants
to be in l A and be a RAM. Yeah,
it's got another year left on his deal with Tampa.
He told the SPND as that he has a connection
(01:08:50):
with Sean McVeigh when both were in Washington, And of
course Jackson a long beach guy, former Arizona head coach,
not Cardinals. Wildcats were talking college football in Oklahoma to
defensive coordinator former BU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops joining Alabama.
By the way, can I go back here? Why doesn't
he want to play in Tampa with a with a
coach that loves to throw the ball down the field?
(01:09:11):
Remember he wanted Ryan Fitzpatrick as his starting quarterback, didn't
want Jamis to be the guy. Yeah, it could be
Celtics card Kyrie Irving out tonight against the Hornets because
of a hip injury. Pelicans of a quarter of their
team out tonight against the Nuggets. Anthony Davis remains out
with his finger injury. Julius Randallison against one as well
eats one more. I don't know if it's that one.
(01:09:31):
We'll be back at the Super Bowl Media Center for
Super Bowl fifty three of The Dog Got Leap Show
in ten seconds. But first a word from farmers. From
a dog accidentally flooding a living room to a dog
taking a joy ride, We've covered it talk to farmers.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a
thing or two. We are farmers under written my Farmers

truck Fire Insurance Exchange, then affiliates products not available in
every state. We had Baker Mayfield on earlier today. If
you want to download that interview way till after the
show that Fox Sports ray dot com or follow our
Twitter feed at Gottlieb Show. Um. And I asked him like,
how had he changed the culture? And he was a
little bit it was probably the only thing. He was
a little bit like a oh no. I said, how
did they change from expecting to lose to expecting to win?
(01:10:14):
And he was like, I kind of always expected to win, right,
but uh, you know, it's fair to say that the
Browns were seen as the most dysfunction organization in the NFL.
And if you don't believe me, let's play what the
Fox said and now the Fox say every day. This
time the Doug Gotlieb Shaw, we played for you a
(01:10:36):
previous portion of something on Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports One.
In this case, the Dan Patrick Show had Saints star
defensive end Cam Jordan's take a. Listen to Cam Jordan's
story about the Browns on Day two of the NFL Draft,
in which he was selected. Were you ever confused with
Jordan Camera? We got drafted. I got drafted in the
(01:10:58):
first round. He got drafted in the round fourth. The
Browns called me. Why I was. I was chilling with
my d line coach Bill Johnson at the time. Who's
going to the super Bowl this year? Great job Bill? Um.
We were driving from the airport and I got a
call from the Browns called down. Uh. They're like, hey,
we're about to select you. And I was like, I mean,
I'm good. Actually I think I've already been selected. Um,
(01:11:20):
but if you want to say that, check, I'll take that. Okay.
So you had already been taken in the first round,
so this was the next day, and you were going
to get drafted by the Browns, no doubt. Um, And
I sitting there, You're just like, I mean, I'll take
to signing bonuses, but I refused to go to Cleveland
as a That's an amazing story, right, I'd say, you
(01:11:42):
had one job. Get me, get me the number for
Jordan's Cameron, and obviously Cam Jordan. Like that could happen
to anybody. It just happens happened to the Browns though, right,
it just so happens to happen to the Browns is
the greatest part of that story ever, and it does
feed into what is a fairly accurate narrative for how
dysfunctional that organization seems to be. This is the du
(01:12:06):
Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, it feels
it feels like not a lot of buzz in Atlanta.
Now I think there's so I would guess three factors
to it. Okay, first factor is actually four factors. First,
it's Atlanta. Now, Atlanta hosted an Olympics. That's kind of crazy,
(01:12:31):
by the way. If you if you think of it, like,
if you think cities that should host the Olympics in
the United States, you think l A, You think New York,
you think Chicago, maybe you think San Francisco. You don't
think Atlanta. But they did host the Olympics. But it's Atlanta.
Have you ever in your life heard somebody go like, hey, honey,
well let's back up and stuff and let's just go
to Atlanta for the weekend, right, Like that doesn't happen Miami,
(01:12:52):
you might Phoenix, you might l A. Obviously, San Diego
doesn't have appropriate stadium Vegas. You might even San Francisco.
I could, and then I know that stadium is not
in San Francisco. But it's not a destination like destination, Well,
he's not a destination that the average football fan would
go to. I also thinking this is not part of
(01:13:13):
my four reasons. Somebody it's a fifth is Look, the
TV product is so good, so good. Can't hear Toron
to Romo tell you what's gonna happen next if you're
actually in the stadium? Right, Um, the weather has not cooperated,
just not. In addition to it being Atlanta, it's cold Atlanta,
like we haven't even gotten into spring Atlanta, which has way, way,
(01:13:35):
way too much pollen in the air, but right before
the Masters. So you got Atlanta, you get the weather
not being great. You also have not a great fan
base that's grown yet with the Rams and a fan
base that's in fatigue. They're like, like, as much as
you'd like to say, hey, I'm gonna you never go
again to a Super Bowl of your Patriot fans, like,
(01:13:55):
except we've gone in the past couple of years, Like
I'm out. I've just I've done it too much. It's
too much money. I can't go again like my yearly.
It's not a bull I'm not. It's not a bowl game, right,
I can't go to bowl game every year. I can't
go to Super Bowler. You're not got him cash. It
feels like there's no buzz. Will it pick up or
is it gonna be a dud? And you know more?
In five hasn't exactly driven people to come here, even
(01:14:17):
though they in five's coming. Awesome, man, we'll get to
that next in The Doug got Leap Show, Fox Sports Trade.

of sports. He's darn ravel at Darren Revelle on Twitter.
Not about a real human being. What's up, my man?
How are you? I'm good it is It is really
good to see you. Um, it's Wednesday. The weather stinks.
(01:15:46):
But it does feel like there's a little Patriot fatigue,
right and the Rams, Like the Rams are the more
popular team in l A, but they're actually still not
the most popular team in l A. Right, feels like
this is kind of a dud. Soar the Super Bowl. Yes,
the Patriots aren't gonna say anything. We've known that for
the past. Yeah, the the energy is not here. I
(01:16:06):
also mean, like in terms of fandom, I don't know,
it's Atlanta. It's like it's not Minnesota, right, but it's
also I I agree, there's not really a lot of buzz.
I mean nine nine in the last eighteen years. I mean,
there's got there's there's Patriots fans are coming for the
second or third time, and is there any really one
really coming for the first time? The tickets haven't dropped
enough so that the person who says I've never been
(01:16:27):
able to afford it, now I'm going to go. I
think Atlanta is a good enough of a market that
it's not gonna fall. What's that mean? What's that? What's
the super Bowl ticket? So by the way, by the way,
I have to add this anecdote because it's one of
the craziest things. So Tom Brady's first Super Bowl that
was in New Orleans in two thousand, two September eleventh. People,
it was right after September eleven. You could not get
(01:16:47):
a hotel because of Marti Gras and the lowest face
value ticket was four hundred and I got a ticket
for a hundred bucks, uh, five minutes before the game
because the whole stadium was en roped in in uh
no metal metal like you took an hour and a
half to get into this. So there were so many factors.
(01:17:08):
Because I went to San Diego the next No, San
Diego it was it was after four, was in San
Diego four the next year. You're talking about the Tampa
Bay Yeah, because that the security that that was right
after nine eleven was was was this one two thousand too?
If you want to Wikipedia check me, you can, I win, Okay,
(01:17:29):
I'll go with you. Okay. So, uh you're you're really
looking at the get in right now pretty much? With
fees hovering around three thousand three, how much does the
face value of the ticket? Uh, I think that's around
two thousand. Yeah. It's crazy how they how they've how
they've gone up, because it used to be. It used
to be for for a long time it was two
(01:17:50):
d and then five hundred for the really good break,
right and now it's now you're talking about lowest is two.
It's amazing and you can only go back to that
well uh so so very often. Well now that now
now the NFL owns NFL on location because in Phoenix
there were so many ticket brokers that sold short, essentially
selling tickets they didn't have, and then those tickets were
going for ten thou dollars because they couldn't backfill their orders.
(01:18:13):
Now the league owns the a lot of the inventory now,
more the inventory than ever before. Yeah, and the way
it'll be interesting to see how they how they hold
lot of that. You also, in addition to I don't
want to get to some of the prop prop beds,
you covered the food out and the one of the
more interesting things two things about the Atlanta Stadium when
they came out and say him, They're like, hey, we're
gonna We're gonna cut the cost of food, right, Yep.
(01:18:35):
They do that for the Super Bowl. Yes, yep, they're
doing it. You still get a two dollar hot dog,
three hour nacho three dollars sold to refillable. Yep. And
I will tell you everyone said that that was one
of the most popular stories I've ever written. And the
reason why is because all these fans are saying, oh
my god, my team's got to do this. And the
truth is everyone looked around, laughed at the Falcons and said,
(01:18:58):
you're leaving money on the table. The volume that you
do does not make up for the profit. And it's true,
and we don't think that. And the Falcons did need
to get more people. They had some uh PSLs they
needed to sell. So the overall call, it looks sexy
to dress up the food so that you could say, okay, well,
at least you're getting some value. But for the most part,
(01:19:18):
teams are not not going with that. It's it's been
very slow. And what about the Chick fil A thing?
Now that Chick fil A is not open? Chick fil
A is closed. But but and they're gonna sell some
sort of chicken sandwich there in a Chick fil A
chicken say no, no, no, there's a it's called the
not not open on Sunday chicken sandwich. Is actually very good.
I actually think it's better than the Chick fil a sandwich.
Easy hold on, wait, eventually think it's better than the
(01:19:42):
Chick fil a sandwich. Just like this is yes, this
is almost sacrilege what you're what you're saying to us
right now. Dann Rivel joining us here, Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox.
Can I just give you a really good Chick fil
A stat that I think will blow people away. Yes, Okay,
so despite the fact that they are not open on Sunday,
they still have the highest dollars per square foot among
(01:20:05):
casual fast casual restaurants in the US. So per square foot,
despite the fact that they're closed on Sunday, they make
more than any other fast food restaurant. When did the
Chick fil A thing happen? When did it hit? What
do you mean when did it hit? Like Chick Fila
has been around for a long time, around for a
long time. Mean they really started expanding maybe fifteen years ago,
(01:20:27):
twenty years ago, I think, But it feels like it's
only been like five years. Where it's been. They've gone
they've they've they've gone out. I mean, listen, there's like
two or three in New Jersey and but there's still
in and out gets so much I know, we're not
supposed to go here, but it's opening. Out gets so
much heat just from the fact that they're you know,
anywhere else they've they're they're in Texas, They've they've expanded
(01:20:49):
a bunch um. I love some of these prop bets.
Daron Ravelle joining us go to Go to my Action
network dot com slash contest. You could win five thousand bucks.
So some of these props are Give me the most
interesting one. I I always love the national anthem, but
I think the one. Will the broadcast visually show the
age captain between Bill Belichick and Sean McVeigh or Tom
Brady and Jared that's an easy one. That's a yes.
(01:21:11):
Okay that that seems like a yes. That's yes for me.
How much will they show the past interference call? Yes? Okay,
Now I'm gonna give you one that's not on here.
Will Tony Romo get seven and a half the over
under seven and a half on correct calls? Yes? See,
I think that's that that's recency bias. You think that
(01:21:32):
he's just gotten a lot of them. I don't. We
got like twelve last game, right, Well, what's the correct
call he did? He did get credit for one that
was actually wrong, right, and then the Gronkowski one was amazing,
Yes it was, it was. It was amazing. But if
you study and do your job, and your former quarterback
you you you should, in fact, yeah, you should in
fact do that. Um. Okay. The last thing, and this
(01:21:54):
is kind of the most important thing right m v P.
I I've i've I've made up my mind that this
is Rob Winkowski's last game. He's at thirty three to one.
I mean, I think that's ridiculous. I think Tom Brady
knows this his last game. I think Rob Nkowski knows
his last game. It's his last game and he wus
MVP and thirty three to one is like a ridiculous value.
That is a ridiculous value. Right now, He's Dan Ravelle.

That's a joke. If you know d Rob not with

Duck Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um. Occasionally I'll
drop a reference about being from Orange County. No, we
don't necessarily say the O c um. Orange County is
the county that is south of Los Angeles County. So
once you go past Long Beach, right, the County of
(01:23:41):
Los Angeles, not just the city of Los Angeles, is
also Compton Long Beach, Compton Long Beach together on this
joint right, Bellflower, Lamarrata, West Covina. Anyway, once you get
past the six oh five freeway and you hit Los Salamidos,
you hit Huntington Beach, and you hit Newport Beach in
(01:24:03):
Anaheim and sant ann and you keep going down before
you get to San Diego County, that's all Orange County.
It's produced a lot of talented, talented quarterbacks. Sam Donald,
most recently from San Colmenti. He's an Orange County kid,
all right. It's an honor to be joined by the
guy who maybe until Sam Donald, even with Sam Donald
(01:24:23):
was the best regards, the best Orange County prospect to
make it in college and the NASH Football League. He's
a borderline Hall of Famer. He's Carson Palmer. He joins
us on the Doug Gottlieb Show and Carson obviously. Oh,
I forgot I mentioned Burline. Uh, you know Murdovich a
little bit over the me flamed out. Matt Liner did
have the pro career, he had the great college career
(01:24:45):
like that. Fair Sanchez came out of Orange County. Um,
he did go to af C champiship games. But like, um, yeah,
there's a lot of California quarterbacks, not as many as
you'd expect out of Southern California. I mean, you go
up north, you got Brady, you got Elway, there's a
handful of other guys. Um, but yeah, there's not a
(01:25:06):
ton out of southern like there should be, right, do
you miss? I missed very few parts and very few pieces,
But I'm really enjoying um retirement. Um, I have heard
so I worked, I've done shows, the Tjo hashman Zada
and he says, Carson Palmer is the biggest hunter fisher
(01:25:27):
you've ever seen. Like, that's that's what you're into, that's
your jam, right, didn't you guys? You got I don't
want to say the location, but you guys bought a
place in one of the beautiful climates in the Live
in Idaho. Say my address. I want to give it away, right,
live in Idaho. I'm I'm on a river. I fly
fish as much as I have four kids, so that
takes up a good chunk of of life. Um, but
(01:25:49):
I love fly fishing. I'm addicted to fly fishing. I
think I've actually was thinking about it right before I
came on this show. What part of the river I
was gonna hit when I get back home. But I
love to hunt, A love to fish, I love I
love being outside. Did this happened? Okay? You've got up
for for people and they're like, listen, you grew up
in southern California, right, Okay, So Mission Viejo is great suburb.
(01:26:11):
If you're going down I five to San Diego, it's
like smack dab in between l A and San Diego.
No fishing, no hunting, no fishing, no hunting, and like, look,
you can go to the mountains, or you can go
in a hike or whatever. So when was the first
time you went fly fishing? Uh? Well, I grew up
going to Idaho with a buddy of mine, Sugar Roey
and his family had to place Snidaho, and so that
(01:26:32):
was my first fly fishing experience. But I really got
into being in the outdoors when I played in Cincinnati.
I lived kind of in the middle of nowhere. I
had a bunch of woods in my backyard, had no
idea what I was doing. A buddy of mine who
I played with, Doug Johnson, he played quarterback at Florida
and then played for the Bengals for a couple of years.
He took me hunting. And when you went hunting, the
first time's deer hunting? Deer hunting? Bo Okay, I've never
(01:26:56):
shot a bow. He doesn't tell me anything. I'm sitting
in a tree stand for an hour. It's like sticks
in the morning. It's cold, it's cold. I don't see
I'm sitting a tree stand. I'm moving around. I'm looking
for day. I'm like, dude, I don't see any deer
we get back to the truck. I'm like, I don't
take me out on that again. He's he's like, what
were you doing. I was like, I was sitting up.
He's like, no, you can't move, you have to sit still.
So sure enough, we go the next day off. During
(01:27:16):
the season, you have Tuesday's off, so he takes me Tuesday.
I'm sitting in a tree stand. I'm doing everything he
told me to do, and sure enough, this massive ten
point buck walks out and I just my heart almost
popped out on my chest. I almost fell out of
the tree. And I was addicted ever since. So did
you did you shoot? Because I didn't know. I hadn't
shot the boat, so I didn't really know like how
to lot. He just kind of it's it's like I know,
(01:27:37):
I just I had the same experience with my father
in law when I'm in Oklahoma State and he's like, well,
you won't go for deer hunting, and the first time,
I fell asleep in the tree stand and I was
like bored. You know, he gives you a couple of coffee,
you know, and you drink a couple coffees, like, oh,
you can't have coffee because the smell. You know you
gotta have bad stuff. Put put deer sten stuff on
your shoes. Whatever. I'm up at a tree stand, I'm
freezing cold. I'm like, this sucks. And then yeah, you
(01:27:59):
tell a deer walks out. Okay, but but I I
had a gun with me, which is a really bad idea.
So when did you go in and did you now? Well,
what I tell people is you know you got it
or you don't got it. So when that deer walks out,
if you're like, oh cool, there's a deer, you don't
got it. But when that deer walks out and your
your chest starts pounding and your knees start quivering, and
(01:28:22):
then you have to draw the bow in your arms,
that's when you know I have the bug. I I
love this, I enjoy it. My kids love it. I
take him. Um, Well, we'll harvest the deer. Will we'll
make burgers, will make loins, will make pork chops, will
make calopeno poppers. They love eating venison. Will go duck hunting.
We eat duck all all Um, we'll cook the duck.
We I'd catch and release fish. I have a buddy,
(01:28:44):
by the way, who has the greatest duck hunting cabin.
It's in, it's in. It's in Kansas, but right near
the Arkansas. He's an Arkansas guy. But it's in Parsons, Kansas.
And I'll hook you out. It's no problem. It's one
text away. He's taking a lot of guys, but he
has no that have He has no idea about sports either,
so he's not gonna like ask you about something, right
(01:29:08):
an amazing dude, You'll you'll love it, Okay. So that's
what happened to Carson Palmer Um and you. But there's
no there's no man, I'm watching Tom Brady and he's
going to his ninth and that should on some forem
fashion that should be me. Oh, no doubt. I mean
there's there's Sunday. I watched football on Sundays and I
watched college football, now which I never watched college football
(01:29:30):
when I was playing, because you're always traveling, you're going
to the team hotel. I do not want to coach, absolutely,
I want to hunt fishing. Hunting and fishing does not
coincide with football. So um no, I mean I I
watch it. I missed Sundays. I miss um the challenge
and the expectation and the pressure being the franchise quarterback.
(01:29:51):
I do miss that, um, But I don't miss the
offseason trying. I really don't miss being in the gym.
I have not been in the gym since I stopped playing.
And as you get old er, and Tom Brady is
a perfect example, you end up spending five, six seven
hours of your day preparing your body for the upcoming season.
I don't miss that. I got really tired of being
in the gym working out and preparing to play at
(01:30:12):
thirty five and thirty eight, and as my as my
career went on, so I really, I really got um
burnt out on that side of it. And that's one
of the things that blows you away about Brady's He's
not He's enjoys it still at some point if the
burnout is gonna happen or his body is just gonna
give out. Um, But that that's the part that I
don't miss. I don't miss getting hit. I don't miss
(01:30:33):
the way I would feel on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday is
getting ready to play that next Sunday game. But there's
no doubt I missed the Sundays and and your career,
your truer trajectory might have been different if the rules,
you know, which is kind of the Brady rule. Right,
he got rolled up on it, but that was after
you got rolled up on you know. Now they can't
hit guys below the leg. People. Remember you signed a
huge contract with Cincinnati. You're playing the Bengals at home, right, Like,
(01:30:55):
that's how good you guys were. You had a home
game against the Steelers in the playoffs. He rolls up
on your knee, like, I think you never spend any
time going like my career trajectory would be different if
the rules were then what they are today. I don't
play that game. You know, how do you do that?
How do you not? How do you how do you
have the balance in your life? I guess that's an
Idaho thing fly fishing. You have no issues at all
(01:31:16):
with the world. Hey, some some guys win five or
six Super Bowls. Some guys don't win any. I'm I'm
the ladder um. You know what. I've loved to have
won multiple super Bowls or just one, absolutely with without
without a doubt. But I don't ever look back and
play the KULDO would have should a game because you're
just gonna drive yourself nuts. I'm I was blessed to
play for fifteen years. I played with some great guys,
(01:31:37):
I played for some awesome coaches. Um, you know, I
I look back and and UM, I enjoyed it. I
put everything I could have possibly put into it. So
I don't have any regrets in that regard. Do I
regret not winning Super Bowl? Absolutely, But I gave it
my all and it didn't work out. Carson Palmer joining
us here in the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio.
You mentioned the guys you played with, and there's a
(01:31:59):
variety of Right, from Larry Fitzgerald who the guy could run,
guy could run from governor and win, guy could run
for commissioner and they boot Cadell in a second. Right,
He's that then to like t J who grows up
as like a hood rat and becomes a stud. To
to to Chad, who's a nut but freaky, freaky talented.
(01:32:20):
So when I watched Brady, I think the other question
is how does he relate Like, Look, dude, you grew
up in Orange County and uh, you know, you went
to a great school, you went to a prestigious college,
and then you know you're the you're the franchise quarterback
with the Bengals and then became with the Cardinals. How
did you? How did you manage to relate to guys
that came from such different background where you can't and
you never will. Um, you don't know what. I didn't
(01:32:42):
know what it's like to grow up the way t
J did or the way hundreds of teammates did. I
knew what it was like to grow up my way.
But I think what the ultimate thing that comes in
into play is just is just respect. Um. I respected.
There's always guys you don't respect. I respected most teammates
I ever played with, and I think most of them
(01:33:02):
respected me. And the way I earned respect was work. Um,
always being the first guy at the stadium, always you
know guys are coming in and right before team meeting
and I've already worked out or I've already watched film,
and being the last guy. So you don't relate. Um.
The only thing you can relate with guys on the
same level of is respect and the respect you give them,
the respect they give you, and the only respect. The
(01:33:24):
only way to get respect from them is by your
work ethic. It's not from how I grew up or
how how tough I had it at age ten or
fifteen or whatever it is. It's just about respect you
you mentioned fits and how he's the best. What is
it about him that makes them it makes him the best? Well,
his his God given ability is half of it. And
and it's only half of it, um, I mean his
(01:33:45):
his ability to run routes and and his physical um
the way he plays his hands. He also moved on
the inside with you when whereas whereas like a lot
of guys with their ego like hey moving inside and
right inside in blocked linebackers, he blocked Cam Chancellor were
and over again. I mean he so so half of
it is is what he did on the field that
was given to him by God. The other half, uh,
(01:34:08):
was the teammate that he was, the leader that he
was um all the years he played on really bad
teams and never never graped about it, never complained about it, um,
and it never changed his performance or his work ethic.
He continuously whether we were going to the NFC Championship
or oh and or two and fourteen or whatever they
were this year, he continuously showed up to work and
(01:34:30):
continuously prepped and got himself ready to play and and performed.
So half of it's God given. The other half is
just simply the guy understands how to be a pro.
He understands how to be a great teammate and a
great leader. What what about Tom Brad You just mentioned
that Sundays you watch football? Um, what about Tom Brady
allows him? You've mentioned the preparation when you see him play?
(01:34:52):
What about him separates him from so many others? Well,
I think a big thing, Um, being playing for a
great organization, a great owner and a great head coach
is huge, and and those are you didn't always you
have that that benefited but but but he's had continuity
at the offensive coordinator position, the same head coach, the
same owner, UM, who just wants to win, which is
(01:35:14):
a huge portion of it and is the biggest portion
of it is the owner is willing to do what
it takes to win. UM. So that's a big part
of it. But what I one of the things I
think that's most amazing to me about Brady is the
conditions He's done it. And it's hard to throw it
and wind, it's hard to throw it in constant rain, snow, sleep,
whatever it is. I mean going to the medal NDS
(01:35:35):
for all those years. Now he got to go to
Tampa or to to Miami where the weather was good.
But other than that, England and New England and the
numbers he's he's put up, and you know it's it is.
People don't get now now that I'm watching football on TV.
People don't realize how hard some of these conditions are.
Those conditions in Kansas City. Guess that's hard to cut.
(01:35:57):
It's hard to cut the ball through the wind and
cut it accurately in the wind when the winds behind you,
when it's a side wind. I mean, all the different
things that have come up. He's done it year after
year after year. And we're not playing in a dome
like Manning and Breese have in perfect conditions. You know,
in ninetent the games he's played in have been an
inclement weather, which is hard to do, especially as you
(01:36:17):
get older and you lose some of the zip and
some of the velocity on your ball. It's hard to
still cut it through the wind. But he's consistently done
it year after year. I think, um, obviously he's a
great player. I think things are really interesting in two
thousand twenty one, once they have to pay him pent
of the salary cap and you don't have you know,
Cooper Cup on ae rookie deal anymore, you don't have, Um,
(01:36:40):
you don't have the money to pay Todd Gurley's Andrew
Whitworth's dominquansu Peters. I mean what once it's all on
his shoulders and he's taken up you know fifteen or
the salary cap and it's all on him, it's going
to be interesting. Um. But he's in a great spot
right now where he's still on his rookie deal and
they can pay all those players around him. I want
to get to the FedEx Aaron Ground NFL Player of
(01:37:01):
the Year Awards, which recognized quarterback running back performances of
the two thousand eighteen season and a second. But we
started with fly fishing, let's let's end with flying. So
I like, coming on your show man, this is great. So,
but anyone I know who's done it, like, they're just
like you don't get it's okay? So what is it
about it? Like? So I've seen I've seen a river
(01:37:21):
runs through it, right, and so you're looking for like
a ripple where the look a lot like Brad Pitt
when I'm on the water. That's that's one thing I do.
But people, you do have the you have the great beard.
You still have great hair, right quarterback hair, which is
really remarkable. You know there's some other guys that have
were Um, you're surely included. Okay, So so tell me
the process of it. I like, so in the in
(01:37:45):
the summer, I don't wear waiters. I just put on
swim trunks and fly fishing boots which are felt tips.
So they grabbed the rocks. But there's nothing like walking
out the backyard, opening up the gate and just looking
to the right and looking the left and figuring do
you want to go downstream or upstream? What's the difference?
What's just nothing. But it's just so then what are
you looking for in the water to know where to cast? Well,
(01:38:06):
I I'm getting the point where I know where my
holes are, where the holes that are holding fish. And
and so there's one thing. Certain areas that always hold
fish within the river. There's certain areas that typically hold
more fish. Now, crazy things happen and they take off
and they go somewhere else, and you're trying every fly
in your in your fly box, and you can't catch one.
But I like, I get out to the water, I
look downstream, I look upstream. I make a decision. I
(01:38:28):
don't have my cell phone on me. There's nobody around me,
in the middle of nature. I'm looking at the mountains
around me, these huge, massive mountains and pine trees, and
the river's roaring and um you you start casting. I
like the I just don't even have to catch fish.
I just like trying to put my fly right there,
twenty six yards away, right behind that rock, right in
front of that tree limb. It's like doing it's it's
(01:38:49):
an accurates thing, and I like, I like just casting.
I like being out there. There's no my kids aren't around.
Something like an indoor casting thing something now in the
basement window somebody that sells I don't. I don't know.
I just know that golf guys have like the golf simulator.
I just didn't know if there's a fly fishing simulator yet. No,
but they do have a an indoor bow bow range
(01:39:10):
that you it's actually like it's kind of like a
golf simulator, a bow at a screen that has you know,
videos of different animals. It's pretty cool. He's got the fever.
He's got a bad um uh FedEx Air nominee Player
of the Year, Breeze Mahomes, Rivers, Rivers still still still
doing it, still doing it and still popping out more
kids right like you got four, he's got eight. That's
(01:39:31):

their names, no chance for their birthdays. Um. And then

show here on Fox Sports Radio, and let's catch up
with the Pro Bowl m v P. Now, it's interesting.
When I saw we were gonna have Jamal Adams on,
I was fired right because he had a great year.
And then I found out he's a Pro Bowl MVP,
and I was like, I should have probably watched the
Pro Bowl. I just I like watching football, but I
(01:43:08):
just I haven't watched the Pro Bowl. How many of
your friends watched the Pro Bowl. People watching watch this,
you know, since it was my first time being in it.
But you know, I could understand and I respect where
you're coming from. Man, it's uh, it's uh, it's not
as competitive as as it should. And you're a competitive
dude too, so that's gotta be hard to die. It's
definitely it's definitely frustrating. Um. But you know, other than that, Man,
(01:43:31):
I enjoyed the game. Let's not you know, let's not
get that twisted. I enjoyed the game. Um, but I
just wish, you know, it was more competitive, you would
have like Hawaii to instead of don't notice. But like
especially yeah with the rain. Yeah yeah, it's it's raining,
Like am I supposed to be? Like, I'm a dude
who play. It's hard. Um. If you if if a
rookie came up to you and said, like, hey, man,
(01:43:52):
give me one thing I need to think of this year, right,
like you've been in the league, now, what what would
what would it be? You're you're telling a rookie is
about to be draft in the NFL. Time manage, man.
You know, it's just like college when you come in
you gotta figure it out you know what you can do, um,
how you can move as far as like your business, um,
how you can balance it. Um. So I think that
would be the main thing that I would tell you
tell him is a time management because that playbook is
(01:44:13):
a little bit different in college. Okay, So in terms
of time management, what did you have to cut out
that you didn't know you're gonna have to cut out? Well?
Really really it's uh, you know, I don't play video games.
I start playing video games when I was in college obviously. Um.
But you know, being on social media a lot during
the season, um, like during the course of the week. Um,
it's kind of hard. Um. You know, you gotta sacrifice,
(01:44:35):
you know sometimes uh you know, speaking to family on
the phone because you get home so late, or you know,
whatever the case may be. But um, you just gotta
be smart, man. You you gotta understand that you're gonna
have some time on a Friday or a third or
yeah Friday or Saturday, um to go out before the
game or something, or if you got a home game.
So you just gotta be smart and um, you gotta
do it. The right was Jamal Adams join answering the
(01:44:55):
duck galleep. You remember two years ago, he's the number
six pick in the NFL draft of the Jets. Of course,
just made his impacts of a guy they want to
build around, the other guy you want to build around, obviously,
Sam Donald Donald walks in the building first time, first
time he met him was at the building at the building,
and I want to be honest, the first time he
met him, what do you think? Honestly, man, I can't
(01:45:16):
remember what I what I thought, but you know, he
was just laid back man. He was so calm, cool
and collected, and he got a huge head. Yeah he's
got a great hair, but he's got a big He's
always touching his hair. Yes, um, that's his thing. He's
a callie boy. But I have so much respect for him.
And the sky's the limit for Okay. So when was
the moment You're like, all right he could play because
you know, like evens the guys like you're like, look
(01:45:37):
the Denver game, man, Uh well really the first game
of the season, you know, first Detroit. Yeah, you know,
he he's had a lot of you know, splash plays
you know throughout his you know rookie uh scene. But
but I've always operated on the premise as a basketball player,
like you go around and dudes know who can play
who can't, right, and whatever they say to the media,
(01:45:57):
like behind the scenes, it feels legit, like everybody knows
like this this this dude, this dude can play, but
especially defense players, like you have to prove it under
some duress or under you know, in bad condition. But
it was a Denver game when you're like, Okay, this
guy's got it. He's he's uh, he's special, man, he
has all the intangibles. Uh, you know he was he
was mentored by a great guy, a great friend of mine.
(01:46:19):
And um, his name is Josh McCown. I think that,
you know, Josh taught him, you know, how to become
an NFL quarterback about the hair. They're very similar in
that in that way, and um, you know, I think
he was just he followed him, you know, Josh taught him,
you know how, how to do it the right way.
And I think that you know, again, man, the skuy's
a limit for you guys, do you guys bust chops on?
(01:46:41):
How now? Like Josh is like part of their family,
like like Sam's mom and dad like come up to
Josh like after the game, like hugging Like that's a
weird Yeah, that's an interesting and they got they got
a close relationship, man, as there as they should, you
know what I mean? And again, man, he Josh is
one of the best guys I've ever met and never
been around. And he's a hell of a teammate and um,
(01:47:03):
you know, I'm definitely pulling for him. Hopefully we can
bring it back, uh to just you know, be a
part of us. And that's what it's about. I asked
Sam last week. I'll ask you the same question. Any
idea what Adam Gates was looking at the press converse?
I don't, man, Uh, I was in l A. I
was in l A. You know, we were watching it,
A couple of teammates and I we were watching it,
and I guarantee and I guarantee a bunch of teammates
with tex texts like what is with what? We definitely was.
(01:47:25):
But man, I've heard so many you know, great things
about him, um that I'm gonna love him from from
his former players, and um, you know, I'm just excited
to get started. Jamal Adams Johnny As. He's also the
m v P of the Pro Bowl he's joining us
on behalf of pet PepsiCo and the snack Bot. So
I'm here with my family, uh Pepsi and uh. The
(01:47:46):
snack Bot is a walking viney machine. Basically, it can
do anything you wanted to do. But the most important
important thing is it brings you pepsi and it brings
you do Rito's all day long. So it's a walking robots. Okay,
So your favorite flavor of Doritos is nacho cheese? Keep itself?
Did the old the old school? The old school, not
(01:48:08):
your cheese? The orange bag? Yeah, yeah, well not it's
like the reddish, but the orange bag is like orange.
That's when I like I was. It's it's like a
taco nacho cheese. You gotta try that one. I gotta
try that one. And then there's the cool ranches obviously
like I'm not really you don't feel cool ranch. Just okay.
I like to keep it simple. Did you ever when
you're growing up in Texas? Did you ever put Dorito's
(01:48:28):
on a sandwich? Like eating a sandwich but Doritos underneath?
And I had a I had a weird combo. I
always wanted to eat pbe and J and didn't have
Doritos after something about that combo was just so good.
It's the same idea though, it's the krunt of the
smooth ex exactly. Yeah. The only thing with peanut butter, though,
is I need milk to wash down peanut butter. I can't.
I can't do peanut butter milk and doritos though. That
(01:48:50):
doesn't kind of go, yeah, I stay away from the milk.
So I always went. I went with, um, you know
gator righte. Wait, so you you don't do the milk.
That's good because my son's like a little athlete. He
doesn't do it. He doesn't like drink milk that much.
And I was like, I don't know, like I used
to I was a little growing I'm not huge now,
but I was a little growing up and I used
(01:49:11):
to have I go to basketball camp and I would
have four glass of milk at every meal because I
somebody told me that milk ill help you grow. So
I have now I don't touch the stuff. All right.
It's a little different. You you listen to him and
then you're not getting the results, and now you you know,
you're like, nah, I should have never listened to him.
In a way, Um, they have they have you got
(01:49:32):
a bunch of cast space, Um, don't have as many
draft picks. And they moved up to get Sam have
they picked up the phone ever and go like, hey, man,
who you like? Who should we bring in here? Who
know it's who fits our culture? Yeah, you know, I
definitely have some say so as far as you know
who I think you know should come in. And I
always give my opinion to the guys up top, and
uh they respected and um, you know I respect him too.
(01:49:55):
At the end of the day, we're just trying to
get on the same page and get this thing turned around.
What what has it been like for you? You're a
guy who's wired to win and you get draft your
team last year you guys won won five games, but
there's expectation you wouldn't win any right it was it
was supposedly And so what's that like for you to
be like six or say the process. But to be
somebody who's wired to win, right, that's who you And
(01:50:16):
when you're an l s U like you guys was
one game, it's like the end of the world. To
go through this your first two years, it's tough, man,
very frustrating, but at the at the end of the day.
I always believe everything happens for a reason, and um,
it's just part of the story. It's part of the process.
You've seen the Patriots now four times. Can you believe
they're here? No, not at all. They're uh, they're they're
well coached. M heall of organization. Yeah, but you're playing
(01:50:38):
against me. Like, Man, they ain't that good, like he's
he is kind of right with the like they don't.
They don't make mistakes. Man, they're they're uh, they play
fundamental football and um, you know if if you make
a mistake, they're going to take advantage of it. And um,
you just can't make mistakes first first teams like that. Man,
they're great. Yeah, I can't line up off sides otherwise
we'd have a different an FC champion. Hey, congrats in
(01:50:59):
the Pro Bowl, m v prats a great years so
far with the Jets. I know everybody's hopeful that that
the defense comes around. You guys should playoff. Thanks you
appreciate joining us. Appreciate you man, thank you, thank you
joining us and the dougot Lip Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, thanks you maal, let's uh, let's
get you to Dann Buyer for a quick sports update.
Dann when he got done Patriots meeting media just a
little while ago, and coach Bill Belichick addressing the issue
(01:51:22):
of slowing down that Rams pass rush coming up on
Super Bowl Sunday. Pass protection is um there'll be a
big challenge for us this week against the Rounds. There.
They have a great pass rush. They had a lot
of different players that can put pressure on the past.
Course it starts with Donald, but it's it's a lot
more than him, and they're very good. Way does a
really good job with his rush packages and he makes
a match up stuff. So it'll be a bottle Dante
(01:51:44):
Folow Jr. And Dominicans sue all that and more headed
for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady on Sunday. Whether they get
there or not is a different story now. The Patriots
to have one injury to deal with defensive I'm and
melcol Bron limited in practice with an ankle injury today.
Greg Gerlines, still dealing with that footstrain, wasn't scheduled to
kick in practice but was held out today. Buccaneer's wide
(01:52:05):
receiver to Sean Jackson wants to be in l A
and be a Ram as he told the ESPN that
he has a connection with Sean McVeigh when both were
in Washington. It was earlier today that the NFL commission
Or Roger Goodell held his State of the League address.
Said he never considered overturning the outcome of the NFC
Championship game between the Rams and Saints because of that
non pass interference call. Said that the call was addressed
(01:52:27):
immediately after the game and then communication continued during the week.
He was asked about adding a possible eighth official to
the fray for officials, said that could also bring in
another opportunity for human error, but says they will consider
at least discuss the possibility of adding replay to penalties
for the twenty nineteen season. Of course, sets up to
(01:52:48):
the Competition committee as well. No Kyrie Irving out again
for the Celtics tonight because of his hip injury. Will
be back to the Doug Gottlieb Show in ten seconds.
But first, a word from farmers. From a dog actually
flooding a living room to a dog taking a joy ride,
we've covered it. Talked to farmers. We know a thing
or two because we've seen a thing or two, we
are farmers under written my farmers truck fire insurance exchanges
(01:53:12):
that affiliates part it's unavailable in every state fire would
you think of the commissioner? I just he's up there
representing the thirty two clubs. It just doesn't really say
anything and just has a difficult time relating two. I
just don't think that he comes off well in those instances.
(01:53:34):
But you can. You can only judge somebody by their actions, right,
and and their actions are I have never heard of
a professional sports league calling immediately after the game and
saying hey man and having their head of officiating go,
screwed that one up, Like that's as accountable as you
can be, Like you're not gonna go back and change,
you know, change the game. These idiots in in New
(01:53:56):
Orleans that whether there's a rule there, there's lots of
rules there that they could go and do to not
to sit on the fence because it's not what I'm doing.
I didn't think there was much he could do from
that call. A lot of the other issues. I always
think that it's very company line. He doesn't say a lot,
and sometimes it's more of what he doesn't say that
you have to decipher of what he's actually saying. But
in that situation, like, I didn't think that he needed
(01:54:17):
to come out on a Thursday or a Friday when
that report was we still haven't heard from commission to
Roger Goodell. Well, whatever he's gonna say, you're not gonna
be happy. And then if he doesn't say, you're mad
that he's not talking. So I didn't think that he
was in a great situation there. I don't think he
would needed to come out and say anything. But is
it fair to say, like for for a league that
(01:54:39):
has uh, for a league that has you know, butchered
these things time and again, right and and and you
know professional sports. You know we've had blown calls in
the NBA in finals and you don't hear the next
day they have the last two minutes like, oh hey, sorry,
we screwed that one up? Are bad? Right? Yeah? For
the league to call Sean Payton put their head officiating on,
(01:55:02):
go hey miss that call? Sorry about that? Like, I
actually think that's a really good way of doing business.
Doesn't fix things, It doesn't make you feel better. And
it wasn't the league's fault that they had other opportunities
to win the game. But whatever, they didn't make excuses
for it. It also seems like it's a matter if
he said she said or he said he said, because
you had some Saints people saying no, we never heard
from him, and now he may not have been able
to dress sat wait. Sean Payton said that Al River
(01:55:25):
un called him. Sure, Payton said it like Michael Thomas
are saying, you know, tweeting out like I haven't heard
from it, Like there's no one supposed to call you.
He's not gonna be able to dress it to call
three either. So but I didn't think that helped the
situation because again, my take on this has always been
kind of the same, right, which is like, what is
(01:55:45):
the commissioner's job? Like, first of all, when you work
for the commissioner, if you if you make out River
on the head of officiating and you have an officiating issue,
you have to allow that guy to handle his job
and he did. However you did we have you disciplined
the officials whatever you do, like that's under his purview.
That's that's part of being a good leader. You can't
usurp him every time there's a problem, correct, Then you
(01:56:07):
become that guy that's always usurping people that nobody wants
to work for you. So I hired our river un
to do a job. The referee screwed up, not our
river run, and it's not reviewable. The game that went on.
After the game, our river run picks, the phone goes, hey, Sean,
sorry about that. We screwed it up. You know, Ribron
can't call every player called the coach. It's all that matters.
And the coach said, we got an apology from league.
(01:56:28):
I actually think they handled this better than any sports
league has ever handled a blown call. Yeah, with that situation,
I had no qualms with how he's dealt with it.
I will also say this, Doug, the NFL, in a
somewhat subdued way, has been moving on from their older
officials and and and I know that there's guys like
(01:56:48):
Gene s Territory that got TV work and Terry McAuley,
but Pete Morelli is no longer. He's done. Walter Anderson
is is also done. So that some of these guys
are moving on, and they're moving in younger officials, which
we haven't really talked about. Now, at some point we're
gonna say, who are these inexperienced guys. But I think
that's something that the NFL has done to get maybe
(01:57:08):
some younger guys in their NBA has done the exact
same thing, kind of quietly pushed that older guard out
who had an old way of doing things in old
um like my, my, my big thing is this on
the idea of having an official, having an eighth official,
which he kind of pooh pooed, And I understand it's
a replay official who just works with the crew. We
(01:57:29):
do have department of redundancy department, Like there's gonna be
too many checks and too many balances, and what they'll
do is you'll end up one paralyzing the officials and
two just paralyzing the game. Like there's a certain flow
to the game, which if you remember, like the only
reason the Pats had one of the one of their
catches reviewed was because Andy Reid was because the Pats
(01:57:51):
called the time out, not because Andy Reid called time
out to have it reviewed, and they had one of
them overturned. Like at some point, you're gonna disturb, disturb
the actual gameplay, actual game action, the eighth official, I
don't know where like for people to think that you
could put one on the field where like where you
already got two guys beyond the line of scriptment's already
got one in the middle of the defense, you've got
(01:58:13):
guys like Yeah, it would have to be in a
booth to do something like that, because if you were
putting on the field, there's no way to put them in.
There's no way that I would work. Stug gotlib Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, Every story
that you should care about that you will have missed.
And Tom Brady got someone fired. Yeah, how about that
next in The Doug Gotleap Show. Be sure to catch

Travis Kelsey joons tomorrow, Stefan Digsle Joe's tomorrow, called Murie
(01:59:17):
Joe's tomorrow, And Dan the Man Marino? Are you a
Marino guy? Are you a Montana guy? Who I liked
Marino more than those other two? Yeah, here's what people
who are in our age don't understand, right, Like, um,
you used to be you could be a Shack and
Kobe kind of was like you used to be either
bird guy or Magic I and then and then it
(01:59:38):
was Jordan as well. Kind of everybody was a Jordan
guy right for a while. Um, and then you could
be a Marino guy or a Montana guy or maybe
an Elway guy. It was like one of those three, right, Yes,
I would say, yeah, that's fair. And so your favorite
was who I like Marino more than those other two?
I didn't like Alway because the Seahawks were in the
same division as the Broncos, and so I wasn't a
big guy there. I didn't mind Monte, but I think
(02:00:00):
Marino was more more of my style over those two.
Dan the man tomorrow, remember the ice A tonor gloves
commercial protect protect the hands that are protecting you. He
used to buy his get his offensive Lineman. Those is
a ton or gloves. The other voice you hear is
that of Dan Buyer. Let's get to the press, the press.
I'm getting a lot of Mr Dan down here in Atlanta. Yes,
(02:00:23):
they do that. That's that's a that's a that's a
term of endearment. It's like a professional kind of Mr Doug,
Mr Doug ham I halp you. It's a million times
better than boss. Would you get NonStop in l A
you do all the time? Bro, Bro, you go a boss.
(02:00:44):
Thanks Tim, you know, just annoys means thanks. Roger. Mr
Roger Roger Goodell had a State of the League addressed today.
We did. We did summarize what he said about the
p I non call. But here's here's the commission himself.
We address his Immediately after the game, we spoke to
(02:01:07):
the coach. The coach announced the conversation and the the
fact that this play should have been called the game
of football has played on the field. They're played by humans,
they're coached by humans, and they're afficiated by humans. I
don't know something about that, you know, like like he
was going to throw a curveball at the end. They're
a officiated by dogs, the Raiders. But he was like, look,
(02:01:30):
I don't what do you want? What do you wants
to do? Like steering up? They're rough by horses, they're
watched by ants. Uh the Raiders, by the way, would
uh preferably play in the Bay Area. Preferably according to
Roger Goodell, So no San Diego, he said, He said,
(02:01:50):
we don't really know yet. Yea, they prefer to play
in the Bay Area, yes, but his lack of addressing
San Diego as thinking an option shows that that's not.
But they also they can't lay in. They can't play
in San Francisco right because it's too close to Niners.
They yeah, they they could play it at the T
Mobile Park, which is the home of the Giants. Now
(02:02:10):
it's no longer a T and T, it's T Mobile Park.
That's one of the scenarios, the best scenario of all
would be to play with the forty Niners play, but
you know they can't keep grass on that field, and
we don't know if the forty Niners will budge to
allow them to do. The only grass that is not
usable at a Raiders game would be on the field
at Levi Stadium. Hell, good thank you, I'll be here.
(02:02:34):
Dell did say that a big announcement could be coming
in the next couple of weeks or months when it
comes to China and a drink announcement in China huge.
Remember when I said, it's more about what he does
say or doesn't say. I read between the lines here.
Putting an NFL team in London, um isn't quite ready
right now. They can't make it competitive for the thirty
one other teams or the London teams for that matter,
(02:02:57):
is what Goodell said. What was interesting is he didn't
say expansion, say no, no, not at all, but yeah,
so it's gonna be Jacksonville. Jackson was gonna play half
their games there, half their games in Jacksonville. K d
k A Television of Pittsburgh fired an employee who wrote
quote known cheater and quote on a graphic over video
(02:03:18):
of Tom Brady from the team send off on Sunday,
so that employee was dismissed. Yeah, he got third prize.
He's done for writting. Tom Brady, known cheater on the ground,
was suspended for four games. He was suspended. I don't
know what he's suspended for. We didn't work together at
the time. I thought the whole thing was a joke. Um,
(02:03:39):
But they just wanted him to admit, admit you did
something wrong. And I like the fact that he never
admitted he did anything wrong. Lakers forward Kyle kuz My
asked today about being involved in trade rumors and he
had this to say. It was always a good game value.
That means all right, he said he had value. I
(02:04:01):
don't realize there were ninety thousand basketballs in the background
when I has before it my band. They're also stretching
the fifth Hold out Augusta by forty more yards. Fifth
hold gonna be about four nine for the masters out
there and get there. That was the press should be
pointing out that Dan Buyer has been walking around with
his pro Am championship belt, that he has matching underwear
(02:04:25):
that has actually on the front has a as a.
It looks like the championship belt, much smaller belt than
the actual belt that you're somebody cut his mike off.
