Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What Up America,
Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to you live
from the City of Angels. We have a metric ton
to get to. Man, I'm excited about today's show. I look,
I'm excited about any other day show. It should be
(00:21):
pointed out that in the last two days we've had
Sam Donald, who was fantastic. We talked bodyboarding fins as
well as surfing um and what he's going to have
to hear in order to put his name into the
NFL draft or not put his name into the NFL draft.
Plus we talked with Levy on Bell about a bunch
of things. And if you go to the Doug Gotlip
(00:43):
Show podcast, Ryan Music and Company. I mean, I could
give credit to all the different people who actually work
a lot harder than I do on this show and
preparing this show, but Ryan Music has has cut it up,
sliced and diced it. You go to Fox Sports Treato
dot com where you go to the iTunes and right
in Doug Gottlieb and you'll be able to you just
be blessed by radio goodness. That's that's what it will be.
(01:05):
And I'm not saying it's because of me. It's because
of uh, the ladies and gentlemen that Cindy Katz has
has booked, and the fact that it's audible recording. All right,
let's let's get to some cool stuff, shall we. Last night,
the Thunder survived a furious rally. Only all rallies are
furious by the right way. A furious rally by the
(01:30):
Indiana Pacers. And of course the Pacers are only really
interesting because, uh, they were a team left for dead
by most basketball pundits, not me, but most basketball pundits.
And they've been surprisingly decent so far this year. They're
above five the Thunder below five hundred. The Thunder won
the game West beats East, not a surprise. Maybe it's
(01:52):
the fact that Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony
all shot the ball poorly, and yet it was Steven
Adams nine off and some boards that kind of saved
the day. Russell Westbrook did have a triple double, but
the shooting numbers, as they have been all season long,
were atrocious, and so it's caused many people, including my
(02:12):
brethren Colin Cowherd, to say, like, hey, cut bait. Time
to go, It's over. By the way, rob Ryan is
gonna join his upcoming in twenty minutes. We'll ask him
about the Steelers Patriots matchup. Will also ask him about
the Chargers Chiefs matchups. A couple of great matchups this
weekend in the a f C specifically, and some good
NFC stuff to grit with Aaron Rodgers back against the
(02:36):
Carolina Panthers. You know, when an injured player comes back,
it allows me, Ramos, you and I huge movie nuts
um two U to to discuss sweeping the leg right
and like music sitting there and he may be nodding
his head like he knows what sweet the leg is,
but he doesn't really know what sweet the leg is? Right, Well,
(02:59):
what you mean, I don't actually know what that means. Well,
what is the term sweep the leg from? It's from
Karate Kid? H So how would it apply in the
Aaron Rodgers case? Ah? He well, yeah, I don't know.
I'm not I'm not sure exactly, Ramos, Ramoss, right, Ramo,
I do not know, and I'll tell you right up front.
(03:20):
You don't know, you know the lake well, like, look,
the idea of sweeping the leg is Uh, when a
guy is a guy is coming back from an injury
and he might or might not be healed, you might
or might not take an extra hard shot at the
shoulder in question, because hey, if he happens to get hurt,
(03:42):
he's on a football field. I'm not saying doing anything dirty.
I'm saying sweep the leg. Yes, since I uh, still
nothing music, No, I mean I get it now. Yeah, Okay,
I'm just trying to think, what the is there going?
Is there a movie to which your kids will watch? Now?
(04:06):
I mean, if you go, I guarantee if you go
back and track in the early eighties when Karate Kid
came out, like every parent put their son in karate afterwards,
and the irony too, it was we had actually moved
out from New York, we moved to the Valley, we
moved to Orange County. But there was just a lot
of things about it. If you remember early in the
movie anyway, we'll talk about Sweeping the Leg and with
(04:28):
with Rob Bryan who said to join us upcoming in
fifteen minutes. Let's let's get back to Let's get back
to the Oklahoma City thunder. You know, oftentimes when we
look back at deals that are made and whether or
not they work. Were sports, like any business, becomes a
bottom line business. Did it work? Did you win a championship? Ultimately,
if you want a championship and you made a trade
or you made an acquisition, then it became the right one.
(04:50):
And if you didn't win a championship, then it wasn't
the right one at the time. Right. But the fact
is that at the time, or considering the context of it,
it could be very different. And the Oklahoma City Thunder
of the best possible example of this. Right. They were
a nice team, they were a good story. They were
a lot like in all honesty, the Portland Trailblazers two
(05:13):
years ago. Right, two years ago, the Portland Trailblazers were
coming off one of their best seasons in La Marcus
Aldrich had bailed and gone to the San Antonio Spurs,
and everyone left the Portland Trailblazers for dead. They surprised
people with their regular season performance, and then they came
to they got to the playoffs and you saw their
ceiling and they're kind of stuck in that. They're good,
but they're not really going to compete for a title
(05:35):
unless they can add some other pieces, And to this point,
I think we've come to realize that pieces don't want
to be added to the Portland Trailblazers. And that's really
what happened with the Oaklahoma City Thunder last year. They
were a lot better than people could have expected. Russell
Westbrook statistically had a historical season first players since out
um Oscar Robertson to average of triple doubling. He was
(05:57):
the NBA's m v P. But that wasn't a great team.
That wasn't a burgeoning star team, that wasn't one that
was going to truly compete for an NBA title. You
had the Spurs ahead of it, you had the Rockets
out of him, you had the the Golden State Warriors
ahead of them, and then you had the chasers like
the Minnesota Timberwolves, and and before Gordon Hayward left, you
(06:18):
had the Utah Jazz, the Pelicans. To a certain extent,
the Clippers were right there with them before Chris Paul
decided to bail. So, while while so many people are
gonna point out Hey Westbrook struggling with his shooting, Carmelo
Anthony looks lost, Billy Donovan doesn't seem to have u
the ability to bring mellow off the bench. They can't
(06:39):
figure out defensive rotations, nor can they figure out general
player rotations. We're not halfway through the season. And oh yeah,
by the way, we're looking at this all wrong. We're
looking at this all wrong. People are looking everyone looks
in kind of a linear fashion, like the world is
(06:59):
in a lum Like you had a good team with
young talent surrounding town and you bailed on that talent
to to go for the gusto. But that's what we
encourage teams to do. And by the way, this is
the only way in which Oklahoma City can truly be
successful in landing players. And you can't have this conversation
(07:22):
with somebody from Oklahoma wright from somebody from small town America.
I'm a California who Oklahoma City, in the state of Oklahoma.
That's like a second home to me. I feel very comfortable.
I play basketball there, I did radio there, I continue
to do radio there. I'm like a kind of a
quasi celebrity there. It's a great place for me. Like
(07:42):
my my family, We've often said, like you know, like
what have we just picked up stakes? And we did
what we did from like we're just I'll just find
a way to create a studio there, like you know,
cost the living low. All my wife's families there, We
have tons of friends there. We actually are going there
for New Year's New Year's well, I'm the thunder play
on New Year's Eve. I think I would take my
(08:02):
son and then Oklahoma c is a cool place to
go out. It's safe. I know a bunch of people
are just gonna send it master, you know, group tax
group email. Hey, meet us here and we're gonna go
have some drinks. Same thing in Tulsa. But like remember
I played basketball at Oklahoma State. I'm a quasi like
I My wife's from there, like most of these guys,
(08:23):
they you're not getting a free agent to sign in
Oklahoma City. That's why they had to trade for Victor Olatipo.
That's why they had to trade for Paul George. That's
why I had. They had to trade for Carl Milo Anthony.
There is zero point zero chance that those guys, unless
there is some sort of tie. They married a girl
(08:44):
really from Oklahoma is probably the only tie. Or even
if they're best friends with Russell Westbrook. Like Russell Westbrook,
they had to give him that the biggest deal in
the history of the NBA. Otherwise he's gonna go home
to l A. So I get that, we're, hey, this
might not be working, and you might it might not
(09:05):
ever work, but that doesn't take away from the fact
that Sam Presty had to try. And it also should
be pointed out that this is we've discussed in the
past days, the the drop ad date for classes. Right
where you get to a certain point of semester You're like,
you know, I've wanted to i wanted to do eighteen credits.
(09:27):
I've wanted to get close to graduation. But I'm just
failing stat and I'm failing you know whatever. Uh pottery
one oh one, And you know I watched Ghosts the movie,
and so I thought pottery be a good place to
pick up checks. Turns out you actually have to make
bulls and stuff. I can't do it right. And you
(09:47):
get to a certain point the specially you're like, just
drop them. You know why even get Why get a
D and have it bring your g P A down?
Or why get a seed have bring your g P
A down? Like, let's stick with the Asian bs. Honestly,
you would never drop a seat, but let's see, it's
a d or and after you just drop it. But
there are certain classes to which you have to see
all the way through. Sorry, Bob, you're gonna have to
(10:07):
do this to graduate. And that's what Oklahoma City has
to do. They're not bailing on Paul George mid season,
not trading him away that trading way, Carmelo Anthony and
the sure as hell not trading away Russell Westbrook. They
went for it. They're gonna see it through. If you
remember two years ago, they were a dysfunctional mess until
they got to the playoffs and they nearly unseated the
(10:28):
Golden State Warriors after beating the San Antonio Spurs in
the playoffs. And maybe it's because of that, Maybe it's
because they understand they're not going to get a free
agent to sign there, or maybe it's because they just
want to see the process all the way through. But
whatever it is, we have a screwed up perspective that
all of a sudden, you sprinkle pixie dust on Paul
(10:49):
George and Carmelo Anthony and put him with Russell Westbrook.
You trimmed down the bench because they were too two
for one trades and the thunder are supposed to be
perfect right away, and that's just not reality, not reality.
(11:10):
There's never been the reality. So I look at it,
and I think people are and I'm just as guilty
of this as anybody. Right, you jump the gun and
you assume you know exactly what's gonna happen, exactly how
this thing is going to turn out, and you truthfully
(11:31):
have zero idea. All right, two types up. Bul Champ
Rob Ryani joins the show. In a second. Love has
an Army and you can help join the fight, help
the Salvation Army fight for those in need all over
all over our community this Christmas by going to Fox
Sports Radio dot com and clicking on the red kettle.
I kinda where's that bell? There's that bell? Awesome to
(11:52):
donate or call eight three three S A L join
A three three s A L. And you know what
if you don't call three three say L joined, I'm
gonna have Ramos ring the bell uh intermittently, like every
thirty seconds, and then it'll annoy people into ringing the bomb.
Kidding two times your Bowl champion UH coach Rob Ryan
enjoys the show. I'll ask him if he's coaching the
(12:14):
Carolina Panthers. Do you sweep the leg plus Steelers Patriots.
Patriots could not have looked worse, but the Steelers defense
give up thirty eight to the Ravens. We'll discuss that
game plus Kansas City San Diego to great matchups in
the a f C. That's next, The Doug Gotlip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Car shopping can be confusing with terms
(12:39):
like dealer price, list price, an invoice price. True Car
shows what other people paid for the car you want.
You can recognize a good price when you're ready to
buy a new or used car. Visit True Car and
they enjoy more confident car buying experience. The quest for
John Ramos to find the worst versions of Christmas music continues.
Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. John, who is this? Uh?
(13:05):
This is a band that was put together called Capital
Kings kind of a techno you know, millennial sound? You know? Yeah?
I mean now, I know what you do in your
off time, John, You search for search for now? Seriously, though,
have yourself a Mary Little Christmas. Doug Gotlip Show, Second
(13:26):
second night of Hanuka in the books, Third night upcoming.
We got a lot to get to unbelievable weekend in
the Nation Football League in terms of the quality of
games tonight, of course, withstanding um you got Colds Broncos. Honestly,
nobody cares if that one that there's one to which
you can feel free, uh to parachute in and occasionally watch.
Let's welcome in, Rob Bryan. You can hear Sundays on
Fox Sports Radio starting at one o'clock Eastern Time, reacting
(13:50):
to all the games as they take place. And Rob,
I want to start with the Marquee game and we'll
kind of work from there. The Patriots taken on the Steeler.
I want to start with the Steelers though, because I
was freaking out about the Patriots like many people in America,
but I also was very I'm very cautious about the
Steelers future because their defense was I mean destroyed by
(14:13):
the Baltimore Ravens, who don't have a good offense. They
scored thirty eight points. How much of it, this is
what I've been asking anybody. How much of it was
not having Shas here and how much of it is
to carry over from the physicality in the short week
of playing against Cincinnati Bengals. Yeah, I think it's gotta
be a little bit of both. I mean, I know
Shas he is a great player, but yeah, that Fitsburgh
(14:35):
defense has really played pretty well most of the year
and that Yeah, they looked terrible in that game. And
it's a good thing Rafflesburger could bail him out with
the five yards passing themselves. So uh too, great defensive
teams in that short week certainly didn't look like very
good defensive teams, uh in that game. Okay, so we
we we know the Miami Dolphins followed the script of
(14:57):
so many teams. I mean, that's that was basically the
New or Giants in the Super Bowl two times over. Right,
if you can if you can get to Tom Brady
force him off the spot with just four guys, you
can play press man coverage. And granted they did not
have they don't have Edelman obviously all year, and they
don't have the didn't have Rob Gronkowski, But forgive me
if I'm wrong that that doesn't feel like that's the
Steelers style, right, So can the Steelers play the style
(15:21):
of defense which had the Patriots looking completely unsettled? Well?
Remember does all training camp? That's all they talked about.
They were playing all this man coverage and uh they
were doing that in the O. T A S Training camp,
you know, getting ready uh you know for man coverage
against the Patriots, but you really haven't seen him play
(15:42):
it that much, you know. Now. The loss of Joe
Hayden obviously hurt that. But it'll be interesting to see
what they do. But uh, you know, here's the thing.
I mean, everyone's that's the way you gotta beat them.
It's hard to beat that team. If you just line
up in man coverage, they're gonna find a way to score.
Uh as well. I mean they've they can jump in
those stacks and bunches and get crossing routes like they
(16:05):
love to hit, and those deep over routes. So uh,
you know, I think that you know, that is a blueprint.
I mean it's it's it's worked before against them. But
I think the best thing is make make Brady post snap,
read what you're doing, and you have to be multiple
in your attack. This is the first game where look,
(16:25):
they weren't they weren't real multiple. They just got after him.
They whipped them up front. Uh, you know they had
to try to protect uh Sue and and chip on Wake,
but that left Jordan Phillips on a one on one
with with the left guard tuning that's really been struggling,
and he was he was all over Brady with the
(16:46):
pressure up the middle like you talked about. And then
those receivers they couldn't get off a press. They had
a bad game, but I can promise you they're working
all week. They're gonna get off a press. We had
to do it before we played Caroline in the Super
Bowl when I was there. Uh, you know, at New England,
and you know, it's something that you gotta master. You've
gotta master your releases. And uh, Miami just got all
(17:08):
over him and and really physically took the tomb without Gronkowski.
How can how can Kenny Britt be effective? I mean
it feels like he's he's a bigger wide receiver, but
he's a guy who's had some injuries, so he's not
fleet of foot. I mean, how can I guy? And
I know they've been they've been unbelievable. You talk to
NFL people and you'll say, what's the best thing the
Patriots do. They're like, no one's better on the waiver
(17:29):
wire than Bill Belichick. They're incredible, so so what what
do they see in Kenny Britt as opposed to what
maybe the rest of the league might be missing. Well,
I mean I would think, you know, like you talked
about his size and uh, you know, he can probably
win those jump balls, those one on ones and and
really they are lacking size out there, you know, Um,
(17:51):
especially with that Alan's not playing well for him, and
then uh, when Gronkowski was missing. You know, so I
think I think this guy could adam some size and uh,
you know, we'll see and and look, they've they've had
David Gibvens, They've had guys like that where they picked
these kids up and they end up playing well for him.
(18:11):
So uh, you know, and if I'm Kenny Britt, I'm
excited about going to New England, playing with Tom Brady
and uh and showing what I can do. I mean,
he's never had that opportunity. Well that's the voice of
Rob Bryan. You can hear him one o'clock Eastern time,
ten o'clock Pacific every Sunday on Fox Sports Radio as
he breaks down the games as they take place. It's
(18:33):
it's phenomenal radio. It's like it's like having the cheek
coach really to how to listen to her or watch football.
All Right, the U the Kansas City Chiefs look better,
but you know, some of it you got to take
into consideration the competition. Now they welcome in the l
A Chargers. Give me your thoughts on how on this
version of the Chiefs and how they match up with
the Bolts. Well, I'll tell you what I mean. I mean,
(18:56):
nobody's playing as good as Philip Rivers is right now.
So he he's on fire. So that since defense, which
had really been struggling all year except for last week
when they benched Marcus Peters and played Rivus and Relevus
played really well. Uh you know, so it was it
was strange to see him play so well. Uh, that
the teams are going to have to do that. I mean,
(19:16):
this offense is clicking, and so is their defense. I
mean the Chargers are really playing, uh, great complementary football.
They're they're rushing in the past, they're playing great defense,
getting turnovers, and then they're doing a great job on
a balanced attack. Uh you know, they're running the ball
better now and obviously they're throwing it exceptionally well with Rivers. So, uh,
(19:39):
Kansas City drew the probably the hottest team in football
right now going in their place, and it's just unfortunate
for the Charges they had such a bad start. Okay,
let's let's get to the Green Bay Packers. Welcome back
in Aaron Rodgers. They're gonna take on the Carolina Panthers,
who do at least last week against the depleted Minnesota Vikings.
Team had a very good pass rush last week. Um
(20:02):
I jokingly talked about the old sweet the leg, right,
go after the end, guys injured, you know, if you can,
if you can get a shot at him sweek the leg.
Is there a way in which as a as a
as a defensive guru, you can tell your team to
sweep the leg without without violating any NFL rules? Well,
I mean, I don't know, now. I mean, you know,
(20:24):
you know, out of respect for the for the league,
you know, respect for the game, they're gonna go after them.
They're gonna hit this guy as hard as they can.
I mean, that's you know something that you know you're
going after. You've got to stop Aaron Rodgers. You've got
to hit him. You've got to you know, get him
from making those huge plays that he makes. Gets outside
of the pocket and things. But there's no bounties anymore.
(20:45):
I know that. But uh, you know, obviously he's he's
the source of all all the pack of success. He's
a source of the passing game. Uh you're gonna have
to you know, hit him. And and the thing is,
really these next two weeks he's playing about as good
as there is on defense. They're playing the Panthers, and
then they followed up with the Vikings, who are the
(21:07):
best defensive football. So, uh, this is gonna be tough.
But uh, you know, with Rogers, it just has that
feel like if here he comes again, and and you've
seen him be successful against every every defense in the league.
So I'm sure Aaron he'll be running for his life
back there. But you know he's got that quick release
(21:28):
and all that. He's gonna need it. And uh uh
to me. You know Cam Newton, hey, you know how
he's up and down and things like that, but he's
been playing really well and they're getting him to run
the football now. So the Packers are gonna have their
work cutout stopping that offense as Carolinas, And you know
it's gonna be uh, come down to Rogers against that
(21:49):
great Panthers defense. Uh, the Philadelphia Goles lose Carson Wentz
and they were placing with Nick Foles. You've been in
this league a long time. I'll big a drop off
to think there is between Wentz and Foles. Well, I
think there's a huge drop offs. I think Wentz was
playing arguably the m v P of the league. I
mean he was. He was having an unbelievable sophomore year.
(22:13):
And uh, you know with Folds he can get hot.
He's been consistent. He had the one great year where
he was he had the seven touchdowns on the two picks.
We actually beat him when I was in New Orleans
in the playoffs, but he was playing really well. But uh,
you know there's a drop off obviously. I mean this
this Wentz is something special and uh he's done so
(22:34):
many great things with his legs, with his feet, where
Folds is not that guy. Folds is going to have
a hard time uh in the pocket, you know, of
getting outside of the pocket. And and the Giants have
to do, you know, have to put that pass rush
on him that's been kind of missing this year. They
need they need to generate the pass rush, uh, you know,
(22:55):
to get him going and but I think I think
obviously going into Schwarts as got a great defense out
there with Philadelphia. I think Peterson and uh, those coaches
have done a great job Frank Reich of you know,
game planning and doing special plays and and using those
new running backs that they're doing. So I think it's
(23:16):
not all gonna come on Folds. But again, I think
there's gonna be a significant drop off with Folds two wins.
That's the voice of Rob Bryan. You'll hear him on
Fox Sports Radio one o'clock Eastern time. Uh, upcoming this Sunday,
every Sunday, matter of factor in the NFL season. Coach.
We really appreciate contributing to the show. Thanks so much,
and we'll hear you on Sunday on Fox Sports Radio.
(23:38):
All right, Doug, you take care. And I don't think
that last Christmas song was anything like being Crossby. It
was definitely not like thing Crosby. I appreciate at least
you you understand where I'm coming from. That's looks good.
Oh it is not good. It's a little bit of
a running gag here, coach. But anyway, Rob Ryan joining us,
I mean, uh, it's welcome and Steve to Seger, Steve
(24:00):
are you are you down with the techno techno Christmas song? No,
I give me the classics. You know, Christmas song with
Matt king Cole. That's great. Even the carpenter stuff in
the seventies is great. Easy on the carpenters, the carpenters
Christmas stuff. Let listen, Ramos, the neat King Cole Uh
version is amazing. I was, actually, this is gonna sound
(24:23):
like the like the snobbyist Ridge, but it's not. Okay
um uh one of the executives Fox TV, and it's not.
He has a boat. It's not like a huge it's
not a yacht. It's a small, little like fishing boat whatever.
And nearer I live, there's the boat parade. So we
went out last night the boat parade. His daughter, my kids,
(24:43):
my wife, um, Kristin Balboni, who also works for Fox Now.
She came over from the other place and her boyfriend
and we were playing Christmas songs. So Ramos, it's not
that I, as a Jew, I don't like Christmas songs.
I just heard the being Crosby when I was like
that sounds like we're watching these boats go by and
like that sounds like Christmas the techno ones. I just
(25:06):
had no idea you were so into the techno game. Well,
Ramos said, doesn't mean you're into it. It means it's
in the system, right. You just have an option to use. Listen,
Ramos says he has all control. We blame all of
this on Well. Then. Closer Fernando Rodney signed with the
Twins today one year worth up to six million dollars.
He turns forty one in March. With Arizona this past
(25:26):
season thirty nine saves and an e r A over
four x Twins. Closer Brandon Kinseler resigned with the Nationals
one year plus an option. The Cardinals traded outfielder Stephen
Piscotti to the as he's from northern California and wanted
to be close to his mom, who has a l S.
The Cubs agreed to a deal with free agent reliever
Steve c Check. According to where Ken Rosenthal. In the
late college basketball game, unranked USC is hosting Santa Clara.
(25:49):
The Trojans have lost three straight to Texas A and
M S m U and Oklahoma. The only ranked team
playing tonight, number twenty one Baylor at eight thirty Eastern
hosting an oh and nine Texas Southern t although Texas
Southern did lose a close one at Oregon on Monday. Yeah,
they play, They play like this crazy eleven games and runs.
Mike dave Us, the former Indiana head coach who is
the head coach there. They played like eleven straight road games.
(26:12):
And remember the reason that the games aren't great. This
week is finals week and most of America and so
a lot of college teams don't play. Wisconsin. Of course,
last night on crazy Calls survived Western Kentucky at home.
So you do have good games even if it's uh,
even if they're not big name teams U c l A,
for example, playing Network TV three straight Saturdays but not
playing during the week. As you mentioned, some people are
(26:32):
actually students in college basketball. Yes, it occurs. Long Beach
State another example of a team that collects checks, travels
the country, gets a bad record early in the season,
but gets experienced. Certainly, I don't know about this NFL matchup.
You referred to it, and I think spoke for the country.
We're not all nuts for Denver at Indianapolis. You know
a few years ago, yes, right now? Do you know
(26:54):
Denver has not won a single road game this year.
You know, they're playing at Indianapolis, a team that not
only lost four in a row, but had the overtime
lost in the heavy snow at Buffalo last Sunday. They
allow twenty six points per game, which is thirty one
in the league, and the Colts are thirty in scoring
only sixteen points per game. So there's your matchup. Tonight's
Denver at Indie. Back to you, Uh, rama's will you
(27:17):
watch even a single solitary second of the game of
Indie and uh whatever the games? Uh, let's see Thursday night,
don't lie. Yeah, yeah, I might watch a little bit
of it. Just turn it on, see what's going on,
and switch it off music. Yeah, I'll watch a bit
of it, but I'm certainly it's not appointment television to
(27:37):
sit there and watch it from first whistle till end
of regulation. Yeah, you guys are gonna have to fill
me in on this one, because I'm like, like some
sports radio guys are the supposed to say, like, oh, no,
I watched everything at DVR. I watched saw that, I
saw that saw that game, saw that game. Um, I
don't know if you guys realize, did you guys get
(28:00):
invited to the Christmas party? I got an email that
counts one. When did you get the email at the
seer about a week ago? A week ago? Okay, you
got it before I did the one that went down
the street today you're talking about. Yeah, I got one today.
I got one of those, like, hey, you know, we
forgot to invite, we forgot to invite gottlib now look
in all fairness to to our bosses. Um, when I
(28:23):
was at CBS, like nothing, none of the guys on
my show would get invited. Like there was there was
the church and state things like CBS Sports Radio wouldn't
really have a Christmas party, but like hey, anybody want
to get drunk? Yeah, let me just go like, hey,
by the way, by the way, Christmas happy, Right, That
(28:44):
was how it really worked. Um. But like our show
was on the cable network, CBS Sports Network, and they
would have a Christmas party and and then they had
like a CBS Sports Christmas party, which were not the
same party, and those guys wouldn't get invited and they
were actually on like you know how how sports radio
(29:05):
shows on TV work? Um, where the crew is actually
on TV. So they were all actually on TV and
never got invited, and they were hot about it. Now
I'm not hot about it. I was just like I
would almost rather have not gotten vite. Me like, oh,
you didn't get the email. Are bad. We'll make sure
you're on the email list that I got invited. I
got invited today, Like, hey, can you make it today?
(29:28):
And like, no, I can't make it today. I can't
ask somebody like and if I showed up, that would
be an act of pure desperation like that that's guys
searching for a holiday party. Correct. Uh, yeah, I mean
that's definitely a late invite for you. I I agree, Well, John,
aren't you working till five? As am? I? We're both
(29:49):
working the next show. We can't go to this party
because they're hosting it at three chas party outside of
my well, outside of my of my wife. No one
shows up at the time which a Christmas party is
supposed to begin, right, Like we lived close to the party.
My wife be like, what three o'clock party? We gotta
be there. We want to go to the two and
you show up and there's no one there. I've helped
(30:11):
people set up more parties. Uh, in my life since
I've been with my wife than anything else, Like you
show up and they're not even ready, like, oh you're here.
This one specifically says it ends at six though, So
that means is it is an open bar. Yes, that's
what it means. It doesn't the party doesn't end at six.
The open bar ends at six. Well, they're renting a place.
(30:33):
Maybe somebody else has it at night for a different punt.
It's very three to six is a weird time for it.
Like listen, hey, listen, before you hit the road, we
want you to get drunk. I mean that is the
the that's a that's a weird one. Three to six
and not walkable from our building. Outside of that, uh,
(30:57):
it was, it's a really good setting. Didn't invite host
of said said show until day of the party. Music
are you going? Oh, don't worry. The Doug Gottli Show
will be represented at the holiday part. Okay, So here's
a job, Chuck Bryan taking one for the team. Guys, No, no, no,
I think you need to like a photo booth. You're
gonna have a one man photo and there's a photo.
(31:18):
Yeah you can, you can. There's a photo you with
the crew or you just you Okay, so music you're going?
Is your girlfriend going with you? Or is it she
will not be going? Then I think you're just gonna
have to pick up two randoms and bring him with you.
Be like, well you invited God leaving Ramos they couldn't
make it to say, you couldn't make it. So I
picked up three homeless guys un Venture Boulevard and they're
(31:40):
gonna come and just get drunk for free. Well here's
the thing, Doug. You don't realize, but it's actually gonna
become the Ryan Music Show. That's why you weren't actually
invited until today. I'm not a music guy. Wow. Wow
that that that that hurts. I've been running. I've been
running a backdoor coup all our University of Tennessee on you.
That's what you're doing. You're giving me. You're giving me
(32:00):
topics they're destined to fail. You know you should do
you should talk about this, uh pulistic winning soccer Player
of the Year. My goodness, did you watch all of
those amazing NHL games last night? I mean, let's we
gotta we gotta sounds like two segments listen. I used
to listen to a certain show that was on this
network and this time slot, and they used to talk
(32:21):
NHL and I used to go, that's a mistake anyway.
Was that was that you? Was that your coup right then?
Then and there? I don't know. Holiday parties are interesting, though,
I guess this would not be the year to hang Missiletoe.
That that right? Should? This is too soon? No, not
too soon? Like I'm just fellas you clearly cannot handle yourself.
(32:43):
You know us as a male demo. Apparently, you know, though,
I feel like I can handle myself enough, dude to
have not been able to have uself. Missiletoe has gone
the way of the VHS or the it lasted like
the VHS more so than the beta Max Well. I
got reference. Yeah, online car shop, it can be confusing,
(33:03):
not anymore of a true price from true car. Now
you can know the exact price you'll pay for your
next car. Is the true car you can do it

offers in the off season and still remains a free agent.

UH text messages UM have have ruined the careers of
many men. In this case, it will allow one young
man to remain free and play foot ball. Get to
that top top of the hour. Plus a mistake that
they're making already in Cleveland with the new regime. More
of that to come, not more mistakes to come, but
(34:09):
more on that story to come at the top of
the hour. This is the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox
Sports Radio. We were only joking about um Ramos's music selection.
It's tough to tough, you know, like look tough pickens
when you've got to find a new holiday song every
time you come back from break. And he continues to
work hard to do so, stayed in, stayed at work
long hours. He's ditched his entire family trying to find
(34:30):
a great catalog of Christmas tunes. And so he does
the best that he can. So too, to Steve Stegger
as we play a game, this is game time on
the Doug Gottlieb show, we got an indication in the
tease of what ramos were exactly playing what games? Guess who?
(34:53):
Question one. Doug who from the NFL turned down a
couple offers in the off season, still remains a free
agent today, even though he is a quarterback UH former
number two overall pick r G three. It is Robert
Griffin the third, he now says, telling SC six it
was his choice that he had offers from the Cardinals
(35:15):
and Ravens. With the Cardinals, he said it was a
numbers game, he said no, and an issue of timing
with Baltimore because they wanted him to suit up for
their first preseason game against his old team, the Redskins,
and he said, I knew I wouldn't been ready at
that time with that offense to put my best foot forward.
He says, quote, I haven't given up on seen yet.
(35:36):
I know the Eagles haven't opening, but really he hasn't
given up on yet. Well again, Steve, you're dealing with reality.
Most athletes, especially r G three, they don't. They don't.
It takes the offer reality to sink in. I will
say this like, look, he's a good looking, smart dude
who won a Heisman Trophy. He probably has a future
in tv UM. But you know, like how how long
(36:00):
after Tim Tebow wasn't won by anybody in the NFL
that he still want to be a a quarterback and
now he's trying to be a baseball player. So you know,
but like, look, it could be it. I think it's Look,
it's a roll of the dice to not go play
for the Baltimore Ravens. But he should have been ready.
He should have known that call was gonna come. And
I think they would have given him playbook to which
(36:20):
he could have survived with before he started to learn
the real playbook. But you know, like, look, you don't
say you want to be a quarterback and then two
teams call and they say do you want and you're
like because then they'll stop calling. It's one of my
it's one of my theories in business right that I'm
gonna never say no guy, never say no. UM. For example,
(36:41):
is I think the first of January, I'm gonna host
Danton the Dan Patrick Show. And for a month we've
been trying to figure out where you gonna be the
first of January. And my logic is like, look, the
second they stopped calling and asked me to guest host
other prominent radio shows. Is the second thing they decided
to stop calling. They'll call somebody else. Take those out unities.
And that's where r G three mismanaged this thing staying
(37:02):
in the NFL. Question to guests, who doesn't think Aaron
Rodgers is returning to the Packers this week? Two? Quote
save the team? Somebody on the Packers. Wait, wait one
more time, Somebody on the Packer says Aaron's not returning
this week to save the team? Actually trick question as Yeah,
he says, hopefully we'll raise our level of play collectively
(37:25):
find a way to win these three games there at
seven and six. But it's a broken right collar bone
that he's coming back from returning at Carolina this weekend.
I've told people several times. Remember, yes, he broke his
collar bone, but this was like nine weeks ago, maybe more,
and he had the plates put in with thirteen screws.
(37:45):
This is not just coming back earlyer like like Tony
Romo did this to get in the thing fixed right,
and he'll be fine. Yeah, mid October was the entry
Staying in the NFL. Guests who Eli Apple denies ever
speaking with regarding his on field struggles this season, Collins
and Collins had said yesterday that apple struggles have been
mental and that he had to sit down with the
cornerback to let him know the team needs. But of
(38:08):
course it was Eli Apple who spent last weekend tweeting
during the loss to the Cowboys when he was maybe
a healthy scratch for that game. Yeah, I think Eli Apple.
It's like he's walked past the truth in the hallway
several times. But the truth in him are not exactly friends, right.
They nod to each other and occasionally they'll hang aft
together to the NBA. None of us here knew this.
(38:30):
The E sports teams the NBA is connected with. Guess
who the New York Knicks have hired to be heading
their E sports team. There's an Yeah, who knew? Right?
Who knew there's an NBA two K E sports league? Um,
what's his name? Turtle? Right? Yes? Former Sunday co host here,
(38:51):
Actually Jerry Ferrara. He said it came together naturally. I'm
an avid Knicks fan and I love gaming. Yeah, well
he's a why dude, they can't play sports, so he
plays video games. Sorry, you just for the whole league
that was you're just no, there's there's there's other races
as well, but you know, you gotta have you gotta
(39:12):
be able to afford the you know, yet got dudes
who who just aren't you know, like he's a huge
Like I think that. I actually think there's probably some
really good athletes that are really good Madden players, really
good two K players as well, because there's a lot
of downtime when you play sports. But like Turtle before
he lost weight, looked like like the like that guy
must play video games, Saga, Genesis and the nineties. He said,
(39:34):
Saya Genesis is big. I would whoop him and sakea Genesis.
I'll just point that out. By the way, the NBA
is gonna sell ads in the virtual universe when their
new East East Sports League kicks off in May. The
virtual jerseys and the stadiums in the game. Love that.
What a great idea will be sponsored. Yeah, I mean
forget the jerseys that we're seeing on the actual court. Yeah,
(39:55):
take the extra step is game time on the Dug
Godlip Show. If you were to join in East Sports
League music, what what game would it be with? Call
of Duty was always my favorite game. I've never played
Call of Duty. Never played it. I'm like, I know,
(40:16):
it's an awesome game. Right, never played Call of Duty,
I would be maddened. My mad game is still pretty good,
although I'm competing against an eight year old most days,
so I don't, I don't. This is a little bit.
It's a lot like Georgetown. Georgetown's nonconference schedule so far,
New Brown's management is already doing old Browns management stuff.
(40:38):
That's next. What up, Doug Godlip Show, Fox Sports Radio?
Mm hmm. Sometimes you say things that you don't mean
to slam other people, but you slam other people, and
you shouldn't slam other people when you don't mean to
say those things. We'll get to that in a moment. First, Um,
(41:01):
I don't know how many people have followed this story.
I have because I'm excited about the upcoming college football playoff.
I got a lot of friends coming to town out
here to southern California that are Oklahoma football fans. And Oklahoma,
of course, UM is led by the Heisman Trophy winning
(41:22):
quarterback Baker Mayfield, and so Mayfield there's some good, there's
some some bad, I guess there, you know, with some
of his antics and the the arrest when he was
at Arkansas for public in talks, um, generally, it's a
pretty amazing story, right, Bob Stoops, who's the legendary Oklahoma
(41:43):
head coach, right before the season, announces he's going to retire,
hands it over to Lincoln Riley, not his brother, who's
on staff and been on staff and been a head coach.
The Sooners promptly go twelve and one and make their
way to the College Football Playoff. Their quarterback act by
former walk on two time walk on really who happened
(42:05):
to win the Heisman Trophy, who was also undefeated on
the road. Undefeated on the road, um, kind of underrated
or under the radar story is Rodney Anderson who's there
running back. He end up having sixteen touchdowns on the
year with combined receiving and rushing twelve forty three yards,
(42:27):
averaging seven yards a touch during his time playing this
season for the Sooners. Now, I also don't know if
you knew this story that Rodney Anderson was accused of
rape by a woman. Going back, Um, was it about
a week ago and they're getting ready for for the
Rose Bowl and Rodney Anderson, who didn't have a Twitter
(42:50):
account went onto Twitter created accounts simply to defend himself
and said, you know, straight up, I did not do this.
The d A today in Norman anounced they will not
press charges, and apparently there's some text messages between Rodney
Anderson and his accuser that set him free. They also
(43:10):
talked to a couple of the accusers friends who said
she bragged about her relationship and a tryst with Anderson
and and apparently she only went to police after Anderson
didn't want to have a real relationship with her. So
I think you can kind of know the story here, right.
Guy meets girl, Guy gets with girl. Girl thinks that
it's more than it the the guy thinks it is. Uh.
(43:35):
Guy leser high and dry like I just thought it
was what it was, and the girl gets upset in
this case, so upset she goes to police and accuses
him of sexual assault. Look the world in which I
live in, and I think you live in, hopefully is
I can't imagine. I just I don't. I can't understand
(43:55):
what would lead any college student, athlete or not an
athlete to attack a woman, right like it was never
really I never felt like your college is a place
to which you couldn't find somebody where there was at
least mutual attraction. And so if she's not into you,
she's not into you. Plus there's just a part of
most people's makeup to which no is in fact the answer.
(44:19):
But again that's also the world. And and so I know,
though I know there are guys that go after women,
that there are men that have this in them. It's
hard for me to understand that. It just is. But
it's also hard for me to understand how a woman
could make this up right, because the criminal part of
(44:41):
this is not just that she should be charged with
a crime and she should go to jail, because like,
I don't know, I don't think ESPN will talk about it,
but I don't know how you not talk about it
because it was major news. And even though the newest
news is there will be no charges and there are
some text messages which vindicate him, I don't know how
(45:04):
much of an appetite is there do people have for that.
Like I'm not asking you to be sympathetic towards an athlete,
but I'm kind of asking you to be sympathetic towards
this particular athlete who was accused of something grievous that
he did not do. Um and you know it's it's
(45:30):
it's it's crazy that a guy would do that to
a woman. Ever, it's equally crazy that a woman would
make that up because she felt scorned by the dude.
Like that's that's terrible. And think of what it does,
the damage it does to other women who have credible
accusations against men who assault them. And yet now a
(45:52):
sudden a seed of doubt is planted. Well, let's see
the text matches. So Rodney Anderson is fully heard, will
play in the Rose Bowl, and that's not supposed to
be like you're that's a god if you sound callous, Like, no, dude,
she made it up. Period. I don't know what would
(46:14):
make somebody make it up. I also don't want to
know what makes somebody who want to rape somebody else.
I just I don't understand either of those two things.
And the DA should pursue should should pursue charges against
her because she did a substantial amount of damage to
other women who have been violated. All right, Uh. I
(46:35):
usually also don't talk politics on this show. I'll only
say this. I do this every year on the anniversary
of Sandy Hook, which um, okay, I'm not gonna tell
you who to vote for, who not to vote for,
not ever, not my job. You should educate yourself on
what somebody truly stands for, who they are, and whatever
reasoning logic you have in how you do what you
(46:57):
do do it. But five years ago man walked in
and killed children in a schoolhouse, and if you're congressman
or congresswoman, your state representative has done nothing to even
if symbolically, protect our children, find somebody who will. If
(47:19):
this is not a political discussion, protecting kids from firearms
that can that can fire a bullet a second like
that's that should not be a political discussion. That's just
like what kind of country do we want to live in?
Do we want to live in one which that we're
cool with that we don't react to that in any well,
we don't. We don't protect ourselves protect our children from
(47:41):
that in the future. If they have done nothing, they've
had five years. I understand first three days, it's hard emotions,
first six months, it's hard, first year. It's hard. If
your congressman or woman, state representative whatever, has done nothing
in the last five years, find somebody who will then
(48:03):
it becomes on you. All right, let's get to Let's
get to some sports, shall we. Um. I think I
think what John Dorsey was trying to say, what the
senator was trying to say, was supporting Hugh Jackson, was saying, like, look,
Hugh Jackson is not a bad coach. But but I
(48:24):
also think I also think there's some damage done here
by John Dorsey, who was the new gentlemanager of the Browns,
which is just not needed here. He is the show
is called the really Big Show in Cleveland. Here's Dorsey
discussing Hugh Jackson as a head coach of the team
now and in the future. You gotta get a guy
(48:45):
like that players, and you know what, I'll come straight
out with it. You know what, the the guys who
were here before that system, they didn't get real players.
And I think as Bill Parcels would always say, you
are your record, and you know what, there it is.
So that's the truth teller in this thing. Um. And
I'm gonna do my darndest to get to players and
(49:07):
that's all I can ask for, and that's all I'm
gonna do. I like the man. Yeah, look, I like
the man too. Um. The people I've talked in the NFL,
like you, Hugh the guy, like you the offensive coordinator.
Not so sure about Hugh the uh uh, Hugh the
head coach. But like, what is the wind there in Dorsey? Right?
(49:29):
What is the win in saying he didn't get him players?
Because that means do you want every player in that
locker room to think you're an a hole? Is that
what you're trying to do? Because that's what you did.
You just said these guys think. Now there's a portion
of them that aren't good enough. There's a portion of
the decisions that made that weren't great decisions. But like,
(49:54):
this is the classic mistake that college coaches make when
they come in and they're like, wait till my guys
get here, you know, and then anybody who's left behind,
even the good players, like I'm not your guy, either
I want to transfer or they never truly buy in,
and then you have a rift between the team. I mean,
(50:15):
this is like just a GMPR one oh one, isn't it,
to which you don't say anything negative. You simply say, look,
they've God bless the guys who came here before they
had a philosophy. Minds slightly different. Uh. Some of what
they did was great. Some of what they did hasn't worked.
We're gonna try and do more of the things that work.
(50:37):
We're gonna try and continue to get guys players. If
you wanted to say he didn't have enough mature NFL
talent to truly see how good an NFL coach he is,
it's an unfair gauge like that would be fair. But
saying they didn't have good enough players and I'm gonna
have to I'm gonna get him good enough players. Think
(50:57):
about if you're in that locker room, what does this
mean for Joe Thomas and I know that this previous
regime didn't get him Joe Thomas, he was there beforehand,
Like what does it mean? How do you feel? I mean,
(51:17):
think about your boss at your work and even if
you're doing a good job right, businesses struggling and your
boss comes in, they're like all right, well you know
for example, UM, I mean just just think if if
your boss took over and says, hey, the previous guy
you are people that are any good and you're like
(51:38):
wait that guy hired me, Like no, no, no, not you.
I'm not talking about you. I'm talking to everybody else
like that doesn't work. He went on radio in Cleveland
and said, the guys that got aren't good enough. So
now every single Cleveland Brown player that was brought in
by the previous regime, there's a bunch of them, and
they're young ones and there's actually some talent there, especially
in the offensive side of the football, is sitting there
(51:59):
going f this guy. They're on their phone with their
agents and you've completely polluted the locker room. You talk
about the locker room, that's the point. Because you're trying
to support your head coach. There's other ways to do so.
And it's not like this is John Dorsey's first time
in these types of discussions. By the way, Also, if
you listen to it rounmost could he que it back
(52:20):
up for a second. Sounds like Dorsey didn't pick up
the phone. He went speaker. He went, uh, he went
speaker phone, Go ahead and listen to You got to
get a guy like that players and you know what,
I'll come straight out with it. You know what, the
the guys who were here before that system, they didn't
get real players. And I think as Bill Parcels would
always say, you are your record and you know what
(52:41):
there it is. So that's the truth teller in this thing. Um,
And I'm gonna do my darndist to get to players.
That's all I can ask for, and that's all I'm
gonna do. I like the man, by the way, the
expression is you are what your record says you are
if you're going to use it, And he basically paraphrased it,
but he did. He Butch did a little bit. Sounded
like he was on speaker phone. He sounded like the
(53:04):
guy who's he sounds like like John Dorsey six two
two forty. He sounded like six to two forty, didn't he?
He sounds like big boss Man talking into speaker phone,
and like, oh, I get it. He was a he
was a player played for the Packers, um, and he
(53:25):
has a good football I que and none of what
he's saying is completely and totally inaccurate. But what's what's
the win? Honest to god? What what is the win?
And what you're saying, how'd you like to be a
Cleveland Brown fighting your brains out trying to win last week?
(53:45):
And it doesn't change that much because you're still fighting
for your career in putting some on tape for whoever
your next boss is. But I mean throwing every player acquired,
saying that we're gonna bring in real players. Yeah no boy, no,
(54:06):
no boy. Now play to your strength in sports. I
tell kids all the time, practice your waitnesses, play to
your strengths. One team in the NFL is starting to
do that and it's paying off. We'll explain next, but first, hey,
please join me in Fox Sports Trade as we partner
with the Salvation Army to help kids and families in
local communities this Christmas. Let's make every child warm, safe,
(54:27):
and get something to eat. You know, fifteen million kids
are living in poverty. That's of all children in the
United States are below the poverty line. Your tax deductible

the Salvation Army works with every zip code America, but
when you contribute, the money gets funneled right back to
your zip code or to zip codes close to yours.
(54:49):
The Salvation Army serves almost twenty five million people a

could you could pay for a meal for sixty five
young kids that don't have anything to eat. And look,

Doug Doug Olive Show, Fox Sports Radio. I love this
article I read earlier today. Um, and it it's it
was interesting. It was it was Cam Newton kind of
tipping his cap if you will, to the Pittsburgh Steelers
and Ben Roethlisberger throwing what do you throw a sixties
(55:51):
seven times? How many times did you throw sixties six times? Um? Yeah,
I mean it's crazy, but but the Carolina Panthers have
kind of rediscovered the notion of do what you do
well and don't do what you don't do well. Right,
do what you do well and don't do what you
(56:12):
don't do well. This is the um. It's it's kind
of what I learned in professional basketball, which is, you know,
that's what pros do. I was watching Jalen Brunson. You
guys from remember Jalen Brunson. So now he's Jalen Brunson
is now at junior. It feels like he's been there
forever because he started as a freshman. He's Rick Brunson's son.
Rick Brunson, a longtime kind of back up in the
NBA who was seemingly a step slow. And that's how
(56:35):
Jaalen is. But Jalen is so effective. One national championship
with Villanova two years ago. They were one seat again
one of the Big East Villanova last year and he
had twenty two in the first half against Temple. But
what's amazing about him is he plays like like an
old like an old vet, right, Like he just kind
of does what he does and if it works, great
and he doesn't try and kind of break like he's
(56:56):
not a blur. So he's not gonna square you up
and shake and bake and mid range pull up you like, Nah,
he's just gonna kind of play that. That's I mean, Like, look,
I wish I had taken the advice that so many,
so many people gave me, maybe a little bit later
in my pro career, then right away my do pros
do what they do well and don't do what they
don't do well. Practice, work on the things in the summer,
(57:20):
work on your weaknesses, but in games played your strengths.
This is what Cam Newton said in regards to embracing
Carolina having him run the Football War quote. Oftentimes, I
still find myself looking around the league and looking at
other quarterbacks and production saying, you know, why can't I
do this? Or I can do this if I was
(57:42):
given the opportunity. You know, Ben Roethlisberger the other night,
he had a monster game through sixty six times, no
facade sixty six. I'm looking to say to myself, that's
not me. You have to understand certain things. That's my edge.
You don't expect the lion not tour. I don't even
know where he's going with that one, but he's got
five five rushing yards through thirteen games this season. Last
(58:05):
year he had three hundred and fifty nine. Last year,
he was trying to prove to everybody that he could
throw the football. He want approved to everybody that he
could slice him and dice, and he want approved to
everybody that. There have been people that's like, you know,
he's kind of like Ben Roethlisberger, Like, no, he's not.
He's a monster as a runner. Quote. I have no
problem running the football. I feel as if it's uh.
(58:26):
I've always taken care of that part, contrary to what
another person might think. Football's physical sport. So I can
get sore in the pocket and I get so are
outside of the pocket. I'm just trying to put as
much pressure on the defense as possible. YadA, YadA, YadA.
He's on pace for to log seven twenty rushing yards
this season. That would rank only behind his seven forty
one and two thousand twelve. I look, this is who
(58:48):
Cam Newton is, and I only I almost think that
we all knew who Cam Newton was. It's just the
two things, like one the team had to know, like
there's not a long shelf life and running quarterback right
and Cam Newton even had to know and um, and
but more, Nathan Kim had to be convinced of, Hey,
(59:10):
this gives us our best possible chance of winning. And
so I think Cam Newton has and the Carolina Panthers
have learned that, Yeah, it's it's a hard way to
live and you're gonna take a beating and uh. And
he's always complained about penalties not called on him for
how guys have hit him, and that's because it's hard
when you're really a running quarterback. On the other hand,
(59:36):
Newton last year said or hebe was the previous year,
said that there's never been another quarterback like him, and
obviously he meant an arrogantly, so but he's he's he's
kind of being honest, right, Dude, that big, like now,
we haven't seen that before. That big. That's wrong. And
he can throw. It's just not what he does best.
(59:58):
And what he does best is not slicing ice a
defense fifty times a game. What he does best is
he's the biggest running threat and yeah, he can also
throw it. So he had to be convinced. The team
had to be convinced, and and I think collectively, like
this gives us our best chance to and hearing Cam say,
you know, like, I wish I was that guy. I
(01:00:19):
wish I did this, I wish That's still the immature
Cam wishing that he was not, But the mature Cam
is like, I'm gonna do what I do best and
be fascinating to see against the Carolina Panthers, who you know,
I mean against the Green Bay Packers. Remember they were
gouged years in the past when Colin Kaepernick. Right, they
(01:00:41):
basically made Colin Kaepernick's career because two years in a
row he destroyed the Packers in the playoffs and that's
a huge, huge matchup this weekend. But that's a pro expression.
Do what you do well and don't do anything else,
you know, just simplify life. And if you do that,
(01:01:02):
you know, don't try and do everybody else's ChIL That's
that there's a certain do your job element to it.
But that's um Like, Look, the two things that that
I think you show when you're showing maturity is understanding
who you are. You know, understanding who you are in life.
We talked about settling in the past, and sometimes you
feel like it's settling to understand who you are and
(01:01:22):
just be cool with your lot in life. But some
of that's true. And then the other part is that
when you screw up, you know, immature children point outwards,
it's Johnny's faults, teacher's faults, principle's fault, it's the world's fault.
It's not my fault. Adults point in words. You know
what that was on me? My bad. I screwed that
one up. So we still haven't heard that from Cam,
(01:01:44):
but I do think hearing him say that this niche offense,
this hard to replicate style where he's the he's the
best running threat that they have. That because of his size,
his strength has about to throw a football, and because
that's what he does best, it gives the Carolina Panthers
there's best possible chance to compete, to get to the
(01:02:05):
playoffs and get beyond the first round the playoffs. Let's
bring in Steve to say, you find out what else
is going on in the world of sports. Well, we'll
start with college basketball. As unc Charlotte fired coach of
Mark Price, the former NBA All Star. He was in
third season there with a five year contract. He was
shocked about this four straight losses. The a D said
she just didn't see his team competing. He thought he
(01:02:26):
had lost his team. He disagreed with that. He's still
got I believe a daughter that's working with the tennis
program and a son that is on this team. Team
overall thirty and forty two record at Charlotte, it's been
in a over a decade since they've been in the
n c A Tournament. The Lake College Hoops game tonight
usc UN ranked now after three straight losses, hosting Santa Clara,
(01:02:47):
oh and nine. Texas Southern is playing at number twenty
one Baylor. There are five NBA games tonight, the Lake
contest at Golden States after ten thirty Eastern, the twenty
two and six Warriors hosting a Dallas team that's just
eight and twenty. But Draymond green And is still out
for Golden State with a sore shoulder, as his Steph
Curry with his ankle injury, also out tonight for Golden
States Zaza Petulia and Nick Young. By the way, Atlanta,
(01:03:09):
with a six and twenty one record, gets the evening
underway at seven thirty Eastern, hosting Detroit in the NFL.
The matchup tonight Denver at Indianapolis. The Broncos looking for
their first road win of the year, and they just
ended an eight game losing streak overall, shutting out the
Jets last Sunday. The Colts have lost four in a
row and seven of their last eight. Cardinals running back
(01:03:29):
Adrian Peterson was not seen at practice again today. He's
been out this month with the neck injury. Falcons running
back Tevin Coleman still in concussion protocol. Bengals running back
Joe Mixon and concussion protocol, returned to practice on a
limited basis today. Jets running back Matt Forte did not
practice again due to his bad knee against the Jets.
It's the Saints this weekend in New Orleans. Expects running
(01:03:50):
back Alvin Camara to play after his concussion a week ago,
and Jacksonville running back Leonard four Nette, with a quad injury,
miss practice again today and finally closer Fernando Rodney sun
with the Minnesota Twins. Back to you for Dan A
Roddy known for one thing right. He's known for the
hat hat being sideways and then the little arrow after
he gets to save and also known for having some
seasons with very high e r ras. In addition to
(01:04:11):
a lot of stuff. Yeah, and he does, and he does.
Does he do the arrow? Is then that does the arrow?
He does the arrow as well, the arrow the sideways.
But he can he can still throw a baseball and
so he'll still collect He'll still collect checks. Yeah, the
Mark Price thing is weird. Man. And Mark Price is
his first job, right, he had not been he was
he was. I don't know if he was an assistant
(01:04:33):
he I know he coaches Christian school. Was shooting coach.
I know in the NBA, shooting coach in the NBA.
And I think he coached a small Christian school and
his son transferred into play for him. But nine games
in the season is that is the weirdest. And like,
there are very few people I would go out and
go like, you never know what that guy might have,
skeletons he might have in his closet, right, especially college basketby,
(01:04:55):
you would say that about him. I would never say
that about him, Okay, I got couldn't no, No, I listen.
I stayed two different three different times. I stayed the
night at his late father, Denny Price was a former
NBA assistant shooting shooting coach, shooting guru. I would stay
at Denny's house, Like if there was a I'm not
(01:05:16):
shocked by anything. Like a lot of people in sports
media business have been talking about some of the people
that have now losing their jobs in sports media, and
you know, like, look, I'm not shocked by anything anymore.
If I would be shocked if there was anything other
than their team wasn't playing well, is why they got
rid of him, Which doesn't make like I didn't make
(01:05:38):
any sense to me. It doesn't make any sense to me.
I don't I don't get it. I can't figure it out.
But all right, let's stop trying to figure it out.
I was I was watching the Pittsburgh Steelers give up
thirty eight points to the Baltimore Ravens. Right, this is
(01:06:00):
the Ravens team whose offense to struggle most the year.
I was watching the New England Patriots get thumped by
the Miami Dolphins. And this comes on the back of
watching the Jacksonville Jaguars just smash the bully that is
the Seattle Seahawks. Obviously, the game devolved at the end,
and it could have been a much uglier incident. It
was already pretty ugly, but I started to think to myself, like,
(01:06:25):
are we gonna have to wrap our heads around the
fact that Jaguars could well go to the Super Bowl?
There nine and four on the year. They've played well
on the road, And I mean, if you look historically
teams that make make make a run to the Super Bowl,
it's not as much based upon their offensive numbers. It's
based on their defensive numbers. In order to make it there,
(01:06:46):
you've gotta have a great defense. Um yards allowed. Jacksonville
Jaguars are second second in the entire league points allowed,
which is really all that matters, right, Nobody cares how
many yards you allow? How many points you at first
in the league by two by a two point margin.
Jacksonville Jaguars only allowing fifteen point five points per game.
(01:07:08):
And oh yeah, by the way, not only do they
allow the fewest number of points um they have they're
great versus the past and good versus the run. Much
better versus the past than the run. And people beat
you by throwing the football. Let's welcome to Millick Jackson,
who joins us on the Doug Gotlip Show. He's a
Walter Peyton Man of the Year candidate. His foundation, Malik's
Gifts supports military at risk youth and their families, as
(01:07:31):
well as pet adoption. On Sunday against the Seahawks, he
posted his seventh sack of the season, which of course
is a new Caleer high. It also proves that class
Campbell doesn't get every sack on the Jaguars. He joins
us Saxonville's own Malik Jackson joins us on the Doug
Gotlip Show, Malick, how are you? I'll do it? Well,
thank you for that intro. Man, I gotta menu that
(01:07:52):
walk in the room and play that because that was awesome. Yeah,
that's good. The only thing better is when they and
I was like, oh, we Famer or Defensive Player of
the Year. Um, let's just what's what's just been like?
I mean, you know, like, look, you're you're a smart guy.
You know how the rest of the world doesn't believe
in the Jacksonville Jaguars. What's it been like proving the
rest of the world. I mean it's awesome. You know,
it's awesome to be able to go in the room
(01:08:13):
and say, you know that I'm on the Jaguars. We're
gonna win the Super Bowl. We're gonna go to the
Super Bowl. You know, people look at you like you're crazy,
and everybody laughed at you. And then to be able
to put up numbers like this and do what we're
doing right now, it's awesome because because it's I mean,
it shows that we we believe in ourselves. But now
that what makes people believe in us. And it's just awesome,
you know because because we're not asking people, we're not
the Jags are no longer getting uh pretty season high
(01:08:36):
grade and trying to go into the season and when
everybody over you know, nobody really believe in us this year,
and now everybody's looking at us raised the eyebrows. So
it's wonderful up be a part of it. When you
first got there, though, what was it like? It was
a lot different, I'll tell you that. I would say
have my experience had a lot different than klais Is. Uh.
We got here, we weren't winning as much. You know,
the city was still optimistic. But you know, when you
(01:08:58):
go through the season, I'm not winning like we did
last year. You know, I think they's got a little
tired of the preseason hype. So uh, this year, you know,
people are behind us more. And this year we really
turned it around, and and I'm black. There's really a
lot of the uh, the buried churches that the boy
Clay's Campbells of the world really helps us turn him around.
So we're doing awesome right now. A lot of help
(01:09:19):
of those guys. Yeah, And and look as maligned as
he's been, Blake has been really good the past couple
of weeks. Is there's something that's changed, Like and I
know they were and they were kind of spoon feeding him, right,
they were kind of having completely resetting his career, handing
out the football, just running it, running it, running it,
not calling any past place. But they've they've taken some
(01:09:40):
of the taking some of the chains off him, let
him throw the football, and he's done a very good
job of the past couple weeks. Have have you noticed
anything different about Blake other than the production. I mean,
I think he stays the same guy. You know, he's
somebody that just comes in and works hard, doesn't let
things pay them. Um, I'll believe them Blake since I
got here, you know, and I really think that having
(01:10:00):
a strong front office and the and the office coordinated,
that's consistent and that's that's here, that's bought in. Has
really helped him and the coast that's behind him. So
he's been showing this whole world what I've been seeing,
and I'm just happy he's finally showing it. I thought,
you need to make the Pro Bowl because he's not
he's not He's not just managing a game. He's not
there throwing or to push yards, uh, hitting multiple receivers
(01:10:21):
and and doing that thing. Man. So I really I'm
glad Blake's changing. I'm not schanging. He's showing a lot
of people who he is, and it's just ultimate. See.
You know, you know, one of the things that people miss,
Milley Jackson joining us in the Doug Galli Show. One
of the people miss about like your time in Denver.
Right when the Broncos won the Super Bowl. Peyton Manning
was nine touchdowns seventeen interceptions in the regular season, like
he was a shell of his former self. So the
(01:10:43):
idea that you have to have a forty touchdown, uh,
you know the guy throw for forty touchdowns and you know,
seven or eight interceptions and win a Super Bowl. I mean, Dever, Broncos,
you guys proved that could be completely wrong when you
demolished the Carolina Panthers. UM compare contrast that team. Obviously
it's different with Peyton's leadership, but people forget Peyton wasn't
(01:11:04):
starting for a good portion of the second half of
that season, right and then they reinstalled them a starter
for the playoffs. Uh what was that defense that team like?
In comparison to your experience this year with Jacksonville? UM,
that team just all around. The only differences that we
had a lot a lot more older uh, um leadership.
(01:11:25):
And when I say that, um, we have Peyton Manning,
like you said, we have demarcuts where Avon Miller still young,
but somebody who's Hall of Famer already. Uh, guys like
that on every level, you know, to come in and
just help these youngest guys get in. And I think
the only difference that we had that we have the
pill these older guys. But you know, I say older
with not fifteen years older, but the very Church was
(01:11:45):
was about twenty nine. You know what I'm saying, still
very very tested in this league. Can come in and
show these some safeties how to do the game. BOYE
can come in and show uh Jalen how to how
to help him and get his game better and Clay
can come in. You know, we have plus that even so,
I think it's just guys are coming in and having leadership,
and that's just the biggest part. And like I said,
(01:12:06):
the only difference from that team and this thing is
that the other guys were just a little older. But
but we have the same leadership, just younger guys and
and that's that's the only difference in And I think
having this younger guy leadership and adapt and relate to
each other a lot more in this a lot better
and understand how to talk to each other, and we
had the situations better. So it was just cool to
be a part of man because being a part of
that team that was an awesome team. Being a part
(01:12:27):
of this team, I've seen this team going a lot further.
M interesting. You know, there's a there's a there's a
room around the league that, uh, you guys welcome the
idea of playing the Patriots and Monday Night was the
reason why, right, because the way to beat the Patriots,
you gotta have physical cornerbacks who can uh, who can
(01:12:49):
get up and lock in and play man coverage, and
then you gotta have four guys up front that can
get after the pass or without help. And because you
guys scrimmage the Patriots early in the year, like you've
seen what they got and none of you guys are
scared of what they got. How accurate is that rumor?
I mean, I know if we would like to see
the Patriots, I mean, I'm not gonna say that's what
(01:13:10):
And be honest with you, we haven't really mean, we
haven't really been thinking that far. But what I can
tell you is that from my experience playing the Patriots
in Denver when we we won't beat them to go
to the super Bowl and fifteen, Uh, that's exactly what
you need. We had corners like we do now, we
had a great rush like we do now, and we
have backup covering. So it's one of those things that
we were all playing great ball. So if we do
(01:13:31):
see them, if we're blessed enough to make it that far,
and if they're best enough to make me that far,
we can play each other, that would be awesome. But
I think we would have a great chance because when
we did see them, uh to uh, the team that
they played in Miami did a great job of giving
us a blueprint, given any team a blueprint, and uh yeah,
so you know, if we make it that hard to
be awesome. But we're not thinking that part right now.
(01:13:52):
We've got Houston and that we will beat them to
kind of solidify our future. Willie Jackson joining us. He's
a Man of the Year Award candidate, which means he
represents the Jacksonville Jaguars, has his own foundation. Um e
jog just on the Doug Glip Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, give me your assessment of what
happened at the end of the game last Sunday. Uh uh,
(01:14:14):
we stopped the bully in the mouth and they got upset.
To be honest with you, that was the that in
the in the Bengals game. I don't know. I think
we're just playing some ball. We're just training guys up. Um,
We're just guys are coming out and people are coming
out here expecting the old jack And when we come
out here and stop within the mouth and let him
know who we are and keep keep on, you know,
(01:14:35):
stocking them in the mouth so seek by running the
ball and get out for the quarterback and and just
physically telling them. They don't like that and they and
I don't think it's sat well with him. I thought
it was disgusting play. You know, I think maybe he
was thinking about the time of teammate in the summer
and was biting his words. You know, probably just embarrassed,
you know. Uh, you're talking about Michael Bennet. Yeah, Michael
Bennet and the guy that was going in the stands.
(01:14:55):
I mean, one, we shouldn't be throwing things at people.
You know, as a man, that's you shouldn't do that,
and as a fan you shouldn't do that. Uh. But
there's no need to kind of, there's no need. You
you're not going to climb in the stands. You know,
you're not run our test. It is it. You know,
we we have to men sure that we we act
accordingly and act right, you know what I'm saying, because
I mean, I understand why the guy was upset. I
(01:15:17):
think his name is Jefferson, That's what his name was. Uh.
I understand why he was upset. But you have to
watch yourself. You know, we still represent the NFL. You
represent yourself, and uh, you know you have to just
act better. So I'm sorry it happened to him, but
it's disapplining are the league has chosen not to suspend them.
Uh does it? Does it matter to you guys? And
(01:15:37):
you're not gonna play the Seahawks rest of the year. Uh.
What was the reaction the locker room when when the
league decided not to suspend anybody. I mean, I think
guys really weren't surprised about the league and trying to
get on guys when we saw how uh A J.
Green assaulted Jalen and then the UH and and now
week a lot of things going on like the Tampa
Bay and some other players are out of the plans,
(01:16:00):
are acting out. So it's one of those things that
you know, we really don't come on the league to
sit there and protect us, to call out people and
UH enforced rules. We know that they like, they're very
Uh they like to get their money back, so I'm
sure they find them happy. But you know, we also
understand they want them to play so they can help
their teams, you know, go out there when as much
to get that fan and get them ratings. So you know,
it's a business. You have to understand that. And once
(01:16:22):
you see them, and once I feel like, you know,
I can look at the whole aspect of the game,
the business. It's not surprising well, it's pretty remarkable the
change in culture that you've been a part of, and
this dynamic defense. Everybody is paying attention and admitting they
were wrong about the Jaguars. Malik Jackson and Walter Payton
man of the Year candidate and of course a proud
member of Saxonville, where he had his seventh sack of
(01:16:44):
the season in their win against the Seattle Seahawks this
past Sunday. They get the the Houston Texans up coming. Malie,
thanks so much for joining us, Have yourself a merry
Christmas and the best of luck the rest of the way. Hey,
thank you for having me. It's always a pleasure. Go Jackson.
That's more Jackson joining us on the Doug got Lip Show.

we bring back for you a portion of a show
(01:17:26):
previously on Fox Sports Radio. We call it, all right,
what does the Fox say? Interesting? Interesting? Interesting? All right,
well let's figure out what figure out? What kind of
does the Fox say? Uh? This is the Doug got
Lip Show. By the way, you can listen download the podcast.
(01:17:47):
If you liked Melee Jackson or Levan Bell or our
discussion with Sam Donald yesterday, download that Doug got Lip
Show podcast. Don't Forget to like Us. Eric Dickerson was
on with Colin Cowherd this morning. He had this to
say about Ezekei Elliott returning from suspension. So I asked him,
I said, what do you want to do? I mean,
what do you expect? He said, I just want to
go back and play football. You know, one thing I
know about this kid is that I liked him. I
(01:18:09):
didn't like him in the beginning. I just felt that
when he first came out. You know, I think he
was a little full of himself. Like a lot of
us are twenty two years old, and we all kind
of forget that we were twenty two years old. Once
upon a time. I said, you played for the Dallas Cowboys.
You know, we might not like the Cowboys, but the
Cowboys are here and the rest of the NFL. That's
kind of right in terms of in terms of spotlight.
You're absolutely that's true. It's the truth. And I say,
(01:18:30):
and you have an owner that cares about you. He
he loves his football players. I said, played for some
of these owners in the league that don't care for you.
You will see the ones you did. You will see
the difference, right quick, I say so. I said, man,
I said, you and Dak y'all do well together. I said,
just go out and do what you do. And you
know what the think about it is. I liked about
it talking to him. He sit there and he was
(01:18:51):
really listening, like like like yea. I said, because one day, Zeke,
you're gonna be this guy, this fifties seven year old guy,
and it's gonna be a young at that you're talking to.
You're gonna tell him the same thing. Hey, man, I
made mistakes. I made mistakes too. I said, No one's perfect.
Just go out and just be the best guy you
can be and love playing for your football team. And
you know, we kept talking. Then he talked about when
(01:19:12):
we come back. He said, man, I'm gonna have twout
of yards. I say, huh, he's got two U yards
said yeah. I said, now you playing against the Seahawks,
you do know that. Yeah, but I'm gonna come back.
I'm gonna have to, I said, Zeke. I say that's great.
I say, but you know coming, I said, you can
get in shape. You can't can't not get in football
shape being over in Cabo. I said, I'll tell you what,
I bet you don't get two in the yard here.
(01:19:32):
I mean, I did like his I'll take the bet.
I liked it. I said, I'll give you one seven
to five. Now I want two hundred. I said, okay,
what I bet you? I bet you your jersey against
my jersey. Give me your game one jersey. I give
one of my game one jersey. He said that's a bet.
I said, okay, you gotta have two hundred. So and
I told him, if you don't get to two hundred,
I wet a jersey. And I'm not a cowboy fan.
(01:19:54):
I wet a cowboy jerris on there. Ok um, yeah,
I mean, like, look, I think the big thing is
is has this suspension changes Zeke Elliott for the better? Right? Like? Look,
I'm not I'm not huge on um. I believe in
(01:20:17):
the death penalty, for example, but I don't believe in
the death penalty as a deterrent. I believe it's a
death penalty for punishment, right, I think you have to
have kind of an internal governor for deterrence. And I
just I don't know if that if somebody else being
punished to death, or like, if anybody else in the
league is punished for what happened to is Zeke Elliott,
(01:20:40):
Like they're gonna look around, go oh, I remember, hold on,
I know I'm arguing with my girlfriend. I really shouldn't
do this. Zeke got six games and it was close,
and I'm in a backway, like I don't believe in
but he was punished, and look, he was punished for
a bunch of different things, like I didn't freak out
about him, you know, pulling up the girl's shirt who
he later apparently got with. But it's not a good look.
(01:21:01):
I do think that the woman who is his former girlfriend, um,
there's definitely some holes in her story. Like I don't
know what he did, but I do know that at
some point you're punished like this. There's a high recived
thiss rate in jail. There's a high recived thiss rate
for guys in the NFL. My big thing is can
he still be Ezekiel and still play with an edge
and be a better centisen off the football field. That's
(01:21:22):
what we gotta find out, and that's what the Fox said.
All right, if you missed any of what we've had
so far, Rob Ryan joined us, Mollie Jackson joined us.
Of course, anything from yesterday, last couple of days. Levy
On was awesome, Sam Donald was awesome. Download the Doug
out Lip Show podcast. UM last night the Oklahoma City
thunder one right. They won the game, and yet people
(01:21:47):
continue to point out so many of their flaws. I
think some of this is in perception more so than reality.
We'll reset the reality and maybe reset the perception as
do exactly why and what is going on in Oklahoma City.
Doug Doug gott Leave Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to
(01:22:16):
you from the City of Angels. We're getting ready for
um big weekend in the National Football League. A couple
of good NBA games tonight. There's NFL game tonight. But
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna lie to you like
I make it a case to not lie to you.
Guys that listened to me for years, or these guys
that work on the show that are fired up to
go to the last hour of Open Bar. That's really
what it is. Right. Our company has Um Last Second
(01:22:39):
invited us to the Christmas party, which is cool because
my last company never invited us to the Christmas party.
The invited like, oh, three to six, your show is
done at three, you can pop right over, and Ramos
was like, yeah, dude, I work till five and then
I fight traffic, and then I coach soccer, then I
coach soccer. UM Music will be over there, You'll be
Open Bar. He'll be The podcast maybe a complete mess today.
(01:23:01):
I just I'm gonna warn you it should be really
good because I thought Rob Ryan was great and Malik
Jackson of the Saxonville Jaguars was outstanding. But I would
guess he puts together the podcast, he'll do it really
really fast because Open Bar three hours. He's you know,
he just turned twenty one last week. You can do
(01:23:21):
some damage. Sounds about right, Doug Music, what's your drink
right by now? Not not exactly this exact second, but
right now I'm I'm sipping on a little bit of
bourbon me and John. No. No, John said, if I
can't go to the if I can't go to the
holiday party, we're celebrating now, that's how that's that's how
the holiday music has gotten so good? Uh no, no,
(01:23:45):
what is your drink of choice? I've been a fan
of the eight oh five right now, which is a beer. Yeah,
you had to say that was a beer because I
didn't know. Sorry, does that is that a Is that
a nerdy response when I said I didn't know. No, okay,
I take an eight oh five is from what the
Central Coast? It's a Central Coast beer, so that you
(01:24:07):
have to drink you have the tri tip with the
eight oh five because people in the Central Coast seem
to think they invented the idea of the tri tip
cut of the steak. Like, no, no, we have tried
tip up here anyway. Um, I spent oh man, I
just realized how long I spent twelve of the last
fourteen years of my life in the state of Connecticut.
(01:24:28):
So I don't know if you guys know this, but
the state of Connecticut is it's mostly New England the
Ish right. The homes are New England style. There's some capes.
There's a lot of colonials and um and a nice
home in Connecticut has has cedar signed sighting. For whatever reason,
(01:24:51):
the vinyl sighting is considered cheaper, even though it lasts
longer and and and paint sticks to it. But the
cedar is the PSD resist almost right, like you want
to see her. You want a wood sided house. And
the thing about wood siding is it looks cool and
it ages kind of cool. But you do have to
get it repainted or at least cleaned. You know, you
(01:25:13):
got trees and moss and things get on. You gotta
get powerwash it, you know, once a year and then
every I don't know, five to seven years, you need
to repay your house. So I'll never forget this. Because
this relates to the Oklahoma City thunder Um, my second
home we own there. We lived in a town called Burlington, Connecticut.
We moved across the Farmington River to a town called Canton, Connecticut.
(01:25:37):
Alluded this house and it was white and it was
a colonial and I really like it. It felt like, well,
that's how you want a house to look, right. We
we cleared out some trees in the backyards. We have
a nice little flat backyard and nice little flat front.
Had a cool basement where I could got a man
cave kind of basement. I never I didn't love the house.
(01:25:58):
I thought we kind of were paid for the house
and it became got a knee jerk with my wife
wanting and we could have negotiated better. So maybe that's
part of it. It's part of the layout. I didn't love.
But from the outside, boy was a pretty house. And
my wife hit me one day with the you know,
I don't really like white. I why not? It's like,
I don't know, I just I don't like it. So
(01:26:18):
what color you want to paint it? You know? I
just I want to paint it like a Beiji gray,
you know. And I was like, no, I like white.
Um Ramos has been married eighteen years. Music has been
with his girlfriend for a year. Music probably thinks there
was a good, healthy discussion and that it ended up
being white. Rama's when I want the house white, my
(01:26:40):
wife wants it beige. What color do you think the
house end up being? I would say, yes, very good,
very good call. Like I offer suggestions and if she
agrees with those suggestions, then I got a chance. If
she there's actually even when I agree with her, there's
a chance I could still be proven wrong. So then
(01:27:00):
the fund begins. And the crazy thing about painting a
house is do the estimates went from Remember the estimates
went from like four thousand dollars to like fifteen thousand dollars,
And I was like, fifteen thousand dollars? Are you insane?
And the the guy who was fifteen thouars was ore
(01:27:20):
had painted the whole interior of the house, and he
was like, well, I don't really paint the exteriors, but
let me kind of write it up for you, and
fifteen dollars Like what. So we didn't want to go
with the lowest bid Well, when I say we didn't
want to go with the lowest bidder, my wife didn't
want to go with the lowest bidder. I was like, dude,
just slap some paint on it and call it a day.
(01:27:41):
We end up going with somebody and I think it
was like five six grand or something paid the house
and they didn't they did a nice enough job. We
end up selling the house like a year or later,
moved We actually moved five house six houses down the street.
But here's the point of the story. Um, we decided
to have it painted while we were out of town.
And and one of the other things that happens in
Connecticut is it rains a lot, and so sometimes you
(01:28:04):
may say, like, all right, here's the dry week, paint
our house, and we'll be gone and we'll come back
and it won't be done because the weather was bad.
So we came back from vacation. The house was like
half painted. M I said, what do you think. I
was like, I hate it. I like the white, and
now I'm looking at this kind of topi beige kind
of color and I really really really don't like it.
(01:28:28):
She's like, well, how what do you mean you really
don't like I'm like, go get the white paint and
cover all this this beige stuff up. That's how much
I don't like it. So Ramos, you'll never guess what
we did. Are you stopped painting at Paige and went
to white. Come on, dude, I'm still married. Okay, you
(01:28:48):
finished Paige. So she what she says is, listen, if
you hate it, have you really hate it when it's
fully when it's fully painted you fully, then we will
repaint the entire house. Like look, they gotta do Coat
two coats anyway, three coats anyway where they got to
cover up all the nail holes and all that sort
of stuff. So let's do this. Wait till they get
(01:29:11):
the whole house painted, and especially if they get it
trimmed out, and then if you really hate it, we'll
paint it back white. And that day I drove into
work and I drove back and I was mad and
I didn't like it. And the next day it rains.
They hadn't painted, and I drove back to back and
forth to work, and I'm mad and I hated it.
(01:29:32):
And then it was a sunny, beautiful day and they
came and they they're finishing up painting the house. And
I drove into work and I came back and she
was right. It looked way better. It looked awesome. Um,
the trim was better. There's window boxes, which are these
little boxes you put below the windows you painting, like
put like flowers in, like it it the house popped
(01:29:53):
in the house. Like Look. If any of you guys
are thinking about ever redoing a house, all I can
tell you is painting interior at steer of the house.
You don't have to do anything else. You do that
the house looks amazing, smells better, looks better, everything is better.
So she was right. The point is that you might
hate what you see from the Oklahoma City Thunder or
(01:30:14):
really dislike it. Look at Russell Westbrook, I'm like Dudet
field goal shooting wow over the last five games terrible.
You may look at Karmelo Anthony like that fish out
of water doesn't fit defensively, the Pacers were going at him,
simply attacking Karmelo Anthony in Pick and Roll late last night. Um,
(01:30:36):
you kind of you look around and you're like, this
does not appear to be working. They beat the Pacers
last night, but there they weren't put together to beat
the Pacers. They were put together to compete with the
Warriors and the Rockets and the Spurs. They won't be
together put together and put together the Pacers. The Pacers
were put together to tank, to go young, to get
(01:31:00):
young guys and lower contracts and draft. Well, like, this
is not working out. But this is simply the first
side of a house. It is not painted. And if
at the end of if when the house is fully painted,
you don't like it, well, guess what Paul George isn't
(01:31:21):
back next year? Karmelo Anthony is in the last year
of a deal. You could potentially trade him to Cleveland,
or trade to wherever Lebron goes, or figure out somebody
who wants Carmelo Anthony in the last year of a deal.
You're not going to trade Russell Westbrook or at least
as of now, he's your guy. You don't have other options.
You're Oklahoma City. Like, I actually think what Sam Presty
(01:31:42):
has done is magnificent, even if the parts don't really
fit together. Because where so many other teams have they
go for it and if they don't get it, they
scrap it and they completely start over. He's just kept
trying to find different ways to get as much kind
of juice out of the Orange as possible. So I
(01:32:04):
do think that as much as I'm a little bit
and I'm guilty of this, right like, you watch Oklahoma
City play and you're like, man, it's a whoever gets
the ball take them offense and Stephen like, look, Steven
Adams won the game last night nine offensive rebounds, just
a monster on the boards. But I mean, I think
anyone looks at a record of thirteen and fourteen, the
eight seed as of right now in the playoffs four
(01:32:27):
and ten on the road, and you're like, well, that's
not very good, right, We're not trying. They weren't put
together to beat the Pelicans or the Blazers, the Nuggets
or the Timberwolves. There. They want to be part of
that top three, top four. But you don't even know
what you have yet. You are twenty seven games into
(01:32:48):
an eighty two game season. You've had exactly one side
or one panel of your house painted. When it's all done,
if you hate it, we can go back over and
paint white. In the meantime, understand that Sam Presty has
a house that was in Oklahoma City, and it's you
just you have limitations to any kind of house based
(01:33:10):
upon location, size, the footprint and and all the other
all the other factors set back or whatever that you
can't he's in Oklahoma City, can't get free agents, free
agents won't sign. You know, Blake Griffin is from Oklahoma.
Did you notice that Blake Griffin did not visit Oklahoma
City and think about signing with them in the off season.
(01:33:31):
Do you guys notice that he's from Oklahoma. Blake Griffin
makes fun of people from l A. But you know
what he chooses to do live and work in Los Angeles.
So the realities of it are, you have to get
guys that are already under contract. You gotta get guys
that already have some flaws and and determining that it's
(01:33:53):
not gonna work and it's a bust and it twenty
seven games in is the same mistake guy made when
I thought one panel into the house, we should paint
that sucker white. Let's be honest, romost. You wonder where
I was going with that analogy? Didn't you just tad?
Did I bring it back for you? Full circle? Kind
(01:34:14):
of impressively? So like I'm kind of kind of proud
of myself there music that's that's I know you want
this to be the rhyme music show. Tell you that.
I'll be honest. Dug, Yeah, I don't want it. It's
what the bosses want. You're a nice guy. It's been
a good seven months, but I wish you the best.
Here we go are j belfrom pregame dot Com joins us.
Up coming next, he'll give us his favorite games of

coming next. Okay, So I heard this crazy story over
the weekend about these twins who grew up and found
out that their mom doesn't know who their real dad is. No,
they didn't go on mori okay, uh, it just crushed them.
So the brothers set out on a mission to find
their dad, and it turns out their mom was a
(01:34:58):
little bit wild back in the day. There could be
a bunch of options as who who their dad is.
Could be a former NFL player, could be a small
town vet, could be a big city cop, a coked
out hedge fund guy, anyone seeminglarly, anyone mom could be
their dad. They fly all over the country and these
dudes are piecing together clues, meeting up with all sorts
(01:35:19):
of crazy characters, crashing funerals, picking up hitchhikers, getting shot at,
getting to all sorts of crazy situations just to find
their old old man. And then in the end it
turns out to Now I can't spoil the end of
the movie. This is the plot of Father Figures, hilarious
new comedy starring Owen Wilson and Ed Helms and a
bunch of other hilarious awesome people. It's in theaters everywhere

I don't know where you found this is Bobby McCarron. No,
it's good, good, good idea though straight no chaser as
the name of the band. That sounds like a little
acapella going on here. I do think like I'm looking
outside this window and it is just gorgeous in southern
California today does not feel that much like Christmas. Like
I'm not complaining, but I'm kind of complaining. I'm becoming
(01:36:22):
that guy, all right. You know who else doesn't experience
Christmas like you used to as a kid growing up
in Pittsburgh. It's our next guest waits a like, give
my money you right? Are you tired of losing money
every week? Yeah? Do you want to be in the know?
Well we might not know, but Vegas always knows. R J.

to midnight on Saturday nights. Gets you ready for all
the pis you need for NFL football. It should be
noted that you should listen this Friday night, that's tomorrow night,
because Saturday we have a huge football game in the
a f C West. Uh. That's where we should begin.
Our J is the Chargers taken on the Kansas City
Chiefs in Kansas City traditionally very difficult place to play,
(01:37:29):
and the Chiefs beat the Chargers in Carson earlier this year. UM,
and like, look the Kansas City UM is a team
that it's almost bipolar right between start of the year
and now what you're taking the game. I like maybe
love and I don't say it often in Kansas City here.
I think it's a perfect storm. One you mentioned the
(01:37:52):
Chiefs have had a up and down season, but I
think there's a little logic to it, and I think
it's about the offense. First five games, offense was great.
Five and oh for many many games after Pittsburgh games starting,
they the offense played horribly. But two games ago the
Chiefs changed their play caller Andy Reid out the O
(01:38:14):
C N. And even in that Jets game they lost,
the Chiefs average over ten yards per play every time
they snapped the ball, they gained enough for a first down.
They still lost the game, But that game and then
the game after against the Raiders, Chief's offenses turned it
around with the new play callers, so it's not just random. Hey,
(01:38:35):
two games they've done all right, there's some logic behind
why they've gotten better. And the defense actually and obviously
the Jets game wasn't great, but it's probably playing better
now if you look at the last three or four
games the Chiefs d than it did even during that
undefeated streak early in the year. At least, let's call
it the same. And now, in a night game in
Kansas City where the crowd's gonna be rocking, we're getting
(01:38:58):
a point against the Archers team that is everyone's Darling
because they lost so many close games. Well, hey, I'm
not saying the Charges aren't as good as the Chiefs there,
maybe a little bit better, but are they really four
points better? Because if home field is three to be
favored by one, Charges would have to be favored by
Let's think about the logic here, four on a neutral
(01:39:18):
and seven in l A that doesn't feel right value
on Kansas City. Alright? R J Bell joining us pregame
dot coms a website at r J in Vegas, and
of course straight out of Vegas is the radio show.
Let's get to one of the most discussed games on
the slate. Aaron Rodgers back for the Packers. Um, the
(01:39:39):
Carolina Panthers are hosting them their favorite Remember Panthers, uh
took down the Minnesota Vikings. Vikings were depleted by injury
last week, but they got they were they were living
in the backfield and Cam Newton huge run to kind
of seal the deal for the game. Who's your lean?
I actually like Carolina here and here's why. And this
is a fascinating way to approach handy capping. When there's
(01:40:00):
a big uncertainty, create a line if it's a and
then if it's B, and then see where the current
line is and figure out the chances of air B.
So let's assume Aaron Rodgers is a hundred percent he
comes back all that time off physically, he's a hundred percent. No, Rust,
(01:40:21):
are the Packers a lot better than Carolina in that case?
Or a little bit better? Um? No, Rust, Packers are
a lot better? Really? See I disagree with that. I
think this Packer team has been downgraded about a point
and a half in Vegas from when Rogers got hurt.
(01:40:42):
So Rogers is equal saying he was there the last
game he played. He's there now. Defense isn't as good
as we thought. I mean, this team just this team
was one of the worst teams when he was gone, right,
But that's a lot of him being out. I think
this line two and a half would be reasonable if
Rogers is which is implying Green Bays a little bit better? Right?
Home fields three Carolina two and a half. Green Bay
(01:41:04):
is a little better. But what happens if Rogers is rusty?
What happens if he's not a percent physically? Any variation
of that? All of a sudden, Now Carolinas should be
three and a half or four. So to me, if
you're certain Rogers is a pent, this line is probably right.
I think there's real uncertainty. Rogers is not gonna be
a hundred percent the whole game. And again I'm not
(01:41:27):
saying he's hurt. I'm saying he hasn't played for a
long time, and if so, I think Carolina at two
and a half is real value. R J. Bell Jonius
from pregame dot com, also from Straight at Vegas, which
you can hear on Friday and Saturday nights here on

(01:41:49):
Jacksonville Jaguars just smacked the Seattle Seahawks. Seahawks depleted by
injury and nowll a sudden blake morals are starting to
throw the football around. They're taking on the Houston Texans.
And if you would have told anyone on Earthed that
the Jags in December would be favored by twelve over
the Texans, they would have said, you're out of your mind.
But that's the reality of it. So does this scream
(01:42:11):
for Houston and to take t J t J YTS
Yates led Houston squad? I think so. I like Houston here.
This is the biggest favor the Jags have been since
two thousand seven, so a decade biggest favor. Now I
do radio in Houston. Guy's been down there a long time.
He thinks Yates is an upgrade. I have professional batters.
(01:42:34):
I think Yates is an upgrade. So on the field,
some people think it's about even against Savage. Other people
think Yates is the upgrade. I let's split the difference
to say a small upgrade. I think unequivocally it's gonna
be energizing for Houston. Right when you've been playing with
Savage and losing, Lisa saying hey, here's something different, right,
(01:42:54):
Imagine you go to this lunch place at the and
not saying this would happen at the wonderful Fox Cafeteria.
But let's say you were at the Fox Cafeteria and
you've got sick three straight meals. If someone said, hey,
let's try to place down the street, you might say,
you know, I don't know how good that place down
the street is, but I know I've just gotten sick
three straight times. Let's go well in this analogy, Doug
(01:43:16):
Savages the illness and yates is something different, and I
think it's a good thing for team energy. And lastly,
the Jacks aren't used to be in this big of
a favorite and it's a natural flat spot. They're off
at defining win against Seattle, biggest favorite in a decade.
I think Jack's win. I think the Jacks are a
good team. I just don't think they should be laying twelve.
(01:43:39):
That's r J Bell from a pregame dot com at
r J in Vegas. Um, let's let's get to the
big game, which is afternoon game. Patriots take it on
the Steelers. Patriots or three point favorite after they got
thumped by the by the Miami Dolphins and the Steelers
the defense wasn't the same without Chazy, or give up
thirty eight points to the Baltimore Ravens. But I mean,
(01:44:01):
this feels like it feels like Vegas has to know
something that our eyes don't tell us. Right, the Steelers
are at home and their three point dogs to the Patriots. Well,
here's the question. I'm sure you've had a situation before
your car you know, back in the old days, your
car maybe wasn't starting so good, but you turn on
the heater first, and then the car would start, And
if the heater wasn't on first, it wouldn't start. And
you thought, oh, and you tell the mechanic that, and
(01:44:23):
they kind of look at you and laugh, like, oh,
it's a coincidence. I mean, do we really think and
we discussed this last week. Now again, you've got a
data point backing you up. I think shas here is
a half a point at most, probably not even that.
I mean, obviously there's one data point now that says
Pittsburgh d did not look good without him. But there's
(01:44:45):
a lot of games the last couple of years he
hasn't played. He's been heard a decent amount. I think
it's a small adjustment at most. Here's why I really
like Pittsburgh. And you're right, the line looks really big
and this is a little complex, but it's a powerful point.
Thirty years, this is only the fourth time in the
second half of the season that you've had a team
(01:45:07):
with better than an eight percentage be a home dog
of three or more. And the only exception is the
final week of the season. We threw out because there's
a lot of teams with great records sitting their starters
because they've got they're locked up. So literally, this is
a you know, you've got let's say eight weeks for
this to happen in the second half of the year,
(01:45:29):
and it's happened four times in thirty years now. The
only logic of that in this case would be New
England is a historically good team and we know that's
not the case, right, or Pittsburgh's a historically bad team
with an eleven and two records. I think they're probably
average for a team with an eleven and two record.
(01:45:49):
It's not a little blow, but they're not historically bad
amongst all eleven and two teams. So to me, it
just shows you stealers are getting disrespected like a once
in a decade disrespect. And I think Brady against the
Steelers twenty two touchdowns, zero I N T s that's
right under Tomlin is a concern and and Pats do
(01:46:12):
have a matchup edge. I just think it's too much.
If this game we're in New England, the line would
be Pats Mine is nine, No way. R J Bell
joining us on the dug got lip Show. I agree
like I that one just doesn't make sense. But oftentimes
when things don't make sense, I think maybe Vegas does
something that I here's a great tip, Doug. If it
doesn't make sense, ask yourself, is there a reason there'd
(01:46:33):
be a biased line? And in this case, it's the
love of the Patriots and a history of the Pats
going into Pittsburgh and playing really well. That's where the
bias is coming from. If a line, if a line
doesn't make sense that you can't explain why, then be scared. Uh.
The Dallas Cowboys are favorite by three in Oakland against
the Raiders. Obviously Cowboys are playing better, but it's also
(01:46:56):
hard to look at the Cowboys defensive stats because the
games they've had Shunley they've been good. The games they
haven't they've been bad. So um, there's also the same
thing on offense with with Tyrn Smith. So what's your
analysis of how we view these Cowboys? Don't have ZEKEI Elliott,
but do have Smith, do have Sean Lay? Yeah? I
think Zeke's an advantage in that they know he's here
next week, so it's like, hey, guys, let's hold on
(01:47:18):
one last time. I think that helps. I think Dallas
feel like they control their destiny. You know, not true mathematically,
but they feel it right, So that's good. And I
questioned the Raiders right now and that locker room. I mean,
they're statistically mathematically in the player playoff hunt. But from
what I hear, and again you never know, you probably
(01:47:40):
hear more than me, a lot of discontent, a lot
of issues in that locker room. If you heard that.
I mean, look, they fired a coordinator and nobody wanted
them to fire the coordinator. And I think there's stuff
with the national anthem controversy from early in the year.
There's a lot of things this coach, you know, a
lot of questions. I know, contracts, situation might say otherwise,
(01:48:01):
But and you made the point. If you look at
Dallas with Shawn Lee, they have about a top dozen defense,
one of the twelve best ds in those games, and
when he's not on the field, one of the worst,
I mean couple worst, maybe the worst defense in the league.
And left tackle Smith when he's been in much much
(01:48:22):
better when he's been out. So this is a healthy
team looking at his act next week, Raiders a lot
of turmoil. I only picked Dallas maybe twice a year
because I think there's a natural premium on the Cowboys.
I don't like to pay the freight, but Dallas minus
three amongst my picks this week. All right, that's r
J Bell. Check him out tomorrow night at eleven o'clock
(01:48:42):
Pacific time. That's two am. Uh. It's actually kind of
like Saturday morning. Whatever. But it's a great We like
the listeners to be a little buzzed, right, it helps.
I'm just much funnier that way I thought I would.
I would tend to agree. Of course. It's not stunning
that a guy from Pittsburgh thinks the line that is
most off this week the Pittsburgh Steelers line. Nonetheless, r J.
Great stuff as always, man, Happy holidays. We'll talk soon.
(01:49:04):
Thank you. Let's get you to Steve to say you
find out what else is going on in sports. Steve, Well,
that NFL matchup tonight Denver at Indianapolis, and the Colts
will be wearing the all blue uniforms tonight, the Broncos
the all orange. That might be the only reason to
tune in. Actually, I looked at the secondary ticket market
for this one. You can get ticket to an NFL
game in Indie tonight for six bucks. Plenty of them,
(01:49:26):
and in fact, there are a lot of upper level
seats near midfield for ten to twelve bucks plus fees,
I assume, but a lot of tickets available on the
secondary market for this matchup. The Colts three and ten
hosting a Denver team that yes has the number one defense,
but Denver is winless on the road this year. Oh
and six. Oakland wide receiver Amari Cooper, with a sprained ankle,
(01:49:48):
miss practice again. Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph miss practice
again with an ankle injury. Baltimore wide receiver Mike Wallace
miss practice again with a bad ankle, but he says
he'll play Sunday at Cleveland. Bill's wide receiver Jordan Matthews
had knee and ankle surgeries today. He is already on
injured reserve. Five NBA games tonight coming up in a
couple of hours. The Pistons, losers of seventh straight, played Atlanta.
(01:50:10):
The Hawks record six and twenty one this year. Dallas
is eight and twenty, tied for last in the West.
They have the late game at Golden State. The Warriors
have won seven in a row, but Draymond Green is
still out tonight with a sore shoulder at Steph Curry
with an ankle injury. Also out this evening for Golden States,
Zaza Petulia and Nick Young to college hoops un see
Charlotte fired coach Mark Price. Former NBA All Star Justin
(01:50:33):
Rose shot a first round sixty two at the Indonesian
Masters for a two stroke lead, and closer Fernando Rodney
signed with the Twins one year worth up to six
million dollars back for you. Now, I was just seeing
Joe Smith signed for fifteen million over two years, like
that's a lot. I mean, that just shows how bad
Houston's bullpen is and how much they they think their
window uh is still open obviously to win more championships
(01:50:56):
kind of rightfully so, And yeah, John Hayman says seven
mill this year or this coming season, I should say,
and then eight mil for Joe Smith the year after that. Yeah.
But now, now, look, Joe Smith showed that he could
do what you're gonna have to do if you want
to win a World Series. He came in and he
got Aaron Judge and he got Gary Sanchez out. I
believe three times three times, uh, in in the in
(01:51:17):
one in one series, maybe even more he was outstandings,
had a decade and the majors with a good e
r A. No, he's good, I mean, and in fairness,
he's a friend. So I know Joe really well and
is splits against lefties even as a righty that goes uh,
that goes kind of submarine style are remarkably good. Still,
that's a that's a lot of money, Like the market
is good. And because he's a set up and he's
(01:51:38):
not a closer, he can close, but he's not a closer.
He's shown showing the ability to close several times over,
but it's not something that he's strength. But like, look,
you can come in and get the two or three
best right handed home run hitters out in the Yankees lineup,
you're obviously gonna make make a good amount of money,
make a good amount of money. Um, I will not
watch tonight's game. It's not it's not like per no protesting.
(01:52:01):
My daughter has a like a holiday show that she's
singing in whatever, So I have a I have an excuse.
You sound both knowledgeable and enthusiastic about that. Yeah, I'm
not really into it, not, not really into it, like
she she's in this weird stage where which I think
a lot of parents understand when, Um, she actually can
(01:52:23):
really sing. She's taken a singing lessons, she was a
lead in the show, and she's like seven. But because
how other kids can be or at least this is
what she said. You know, I don't want to say
stand in front of her friends and singing and dance
and coport if you will. But uh so, I'm kind
of bummed out that she has she's gotta I don't.
I don't. She's downplayed obviously her role. She has some
(01:52:45):
former role, but not a big one and sounds like
find somewhere to park, I gotta throw on nice clothes,
gotta pretend to be a nice to all these parents,
which some of them are very nice, and I just
don't know a lot of them. Like I will not
be bringing out the iPad to record video as you
get on stage. No, no, Um, probably should, but won't.
(01:53:09):
We've done it before. Yeah, Lakers Calv's Night though away,
I will watch. I will watch a good amount of that,
no question asked. I will I'll watch that bad Boy
Stug Gotlive show here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, well,
I got a lot to get to with the press.
Who a lot, a lot, a lot to get to. Huh,
(01:53:30):
what should we interested here? All right, we'll get to
the press. All the things you might have missed to
the day in sports up coming next on Fox Sports Radio.
Online shopping can be confusing, Well not anymore. With True
Price from True Car, now you can know the exact
price you'll pay for your next car. So visit True
Car and enjoy more confident car buying experience. So Lebron
(01:53:55):
visited a children's hospital earlier today. Did you guys Ramas,
did you get the audio love that? Did you hear
this story? I saw it on Twitter? Yeah, I was
talking to Ryan about it a little earlier. Yeah, there
was a kid who's in the hospital who said, Hey,
can you dunk on Alonzo for me? It's amazing, It's amazing.
Like of all the things that say Lebron, like hey Lebron, like, uh,
(01:54:18):
can you sign my cast? You're like, can you give
me it? What was this like? Ask him any questions, like,
you know, can you beat the Warriors? Wednes? Isaiah Thomas
gonna play What's the deal with Derrick rose Um? You
know seventeen assist the other night, can you get twenty
five dunk on a Lonzo for me? It's amazing. That
(01:54:39):
was an amazing uh uh amazing line got with a
great country right where a little kids like just kids
feel empowered. Kids like kids aren't kids don't get in
all of celebrities at all, Like, oh my god, Lebron,
hey dunk on Alonso for me? Would you? So that's great?
So Alonso versus Lebron later on to not that I'll
(01:55:01):
watch and kind of like we talked a little bit
about yesterday, guys, with all so many of these teams
having a night off, like you're going to get the
best possible version of the Lakers as they take on
the Calves, right, you're gonna get They're not gonna beat
the Cavaliers, but I think if they had any chance
to compete against the Cavaliers, and and you know, Lebron,
(01:55:23):
you're gonna get to see full Lebron tonight because because
he's rested, so like, look at the NBA schedule is
in fact working, and I know that the I know
that the football numbers uh well badly badly overshadow the
basketball numbers, but you got really one one legit game Pistons, Hawks,
(01:55:46):
Hawks are terrible. Nick's nets in New York as as
a decent watch, but the nets aren't very good. They
just shoot a bunch of threes. Kings are terrible against
the timber Wolves. Well, Mavericks are terrible against the Warriors.
But it does give us a chance to see the
Warriors who are trying to get right, trying to get
help the um. And we don't get any answer to
the Oklahoma City quandary, but instead we'll get a look
(01:56:08):
at at at Lebron and potentially his next team should
be pointing out Lebron chose to not answer any questions today,
not answer any questions after shooting around, which is not
the case usually. He only does goes into playoff lockdown
in playoffs. So maybe that means that he wants to
destroy them. Maybe that means that he just understands that
anything he says Cannon will be used against him in
(01:56:30):
the court of public opinion. Or maybe he doesn't want
to say anything negative about his future team. I don't
We can all be left to speculate because he said nothing.
I got a bunch of stuff to say on all
the topics of the day. Let's get to the press,
the press. Do do do do do do do do
(01:56:53):
do do do do? All right, Steve, yeah, my friend,
Now you are correct on the ratings. Football will be
king even the bad matchup. NBA ratings are out for
the ESPN doubleheader last night, one point five million. Well
Vikings got two million on History Channel last night. All
right on to college football to he staying for his
(01:57:14):
senior season. West Virginia quarterback Will Greer the Big twelve
newcomer of the year. He's gonna graduate tomorrow, but he
is coming back, coming off the season where he had
thirty four touchdowns for the Mountaineers. I remember this is
a Will career who he tested positive for steroids. He
had his own story about what happened led him to
leave Florida. But this is big for the for the Mountaineers,
right Um, Oklahoma losing their quarterback and Oklahoma Oklahoma State
(01:57:39):
loses their quarterback and West Virginia gets their quarterback back.
It'll be a great opportunity for them. Now Kyler Murray
will likely be the quarterback for Oklahoma. Of course, started
his career at Texas A and M. How about that
that TCU and Oklahoma will both have former Texas m
starting quarterbacks and West Virginia will have Florida's So a
lot of SC former scs where of all the CC
(01:58:00):
quarterbacks gone, they've gone to the Big twelve. But that's
huge news in Morgantown. A couple of injury updates from
the NFL Steelers linebacker Ryan shais Here, who had the
spinal stabilization surgery in Pittsburgh a little more than a
week ago. Well, there's an update about his condition today
that he remains hospitalized recovering from the surgery performed last
(01:58:20):
week and quote Mr shais Here has started physical rehab
as part of his recovery process. The hospital also says
they will be the source of the future updates about
Chase Ear's condition whenever warranted. Yeah, they didn't say if
he he's walking right now. It just started physical rehab end.
Quote yeah, I mean that's that's the hard part, right um.
(01:58:43):
And like she Here's dad told ESPN via text, it's unbelievable.
In the family remain hopeful and taking it one day
at a time. But even that, like it's yeah, well,
I'd be like, look, it feels like not getting good
news means well we pray for the best, but expect
the worst. And I kind of think that's what we're
(01:59:04):
that's what we're being led to believe. Like they're not
even cautious that we're not getting a there cautiously optimistic, right,
and no details on terms of mobility or anything like that.
Colds owner Jim Ursay gave an update to NFL Network
on Andrew luck status, speaking during the Winter League meeting, said,
Luck's doing great, He's doing well. We're disappointed it's taken
(01:59:24):
this long, but medicine, that's the way it goes. But
says here say, there hasn't been any unusual setback. We
didn't find out anything ominous. Andrew is still in Europe,
but he's coming home very shortly. No additional surgery at
this point is planned. Great. Thanks, Uh, well, okay, so
some people thought that they had to go back in there,
(01:59:44):
and they're not going back in there, and they would
have gone back in there if they had to go
back in there. So we can expect that the Colts
are gonna fire check Pagano higher a better coach, completely
revamped their roster and get better picks because they decided
how to play him when he probably could play here
late in the year. It's the Colds team that's three
in tent and ho seeing this game with tickets available
tonight NBA News. The league has noted that voting for
(02:00:05):
the All Star Game will start up in a week
now online. It's a different format for the All Star Game.
It'll be at Staples Center this season in l A.
Remember last February at the final score was one one
eighty two, so they have quote done something about it.
The starters from each conference with the highest total of
fan votes will be the captains for the NBA All
Star Game, and then they pick who would they one
(02:00:27):
other team, not East versus West anymore. I've never understood
why why in All Star basketball games the guys don't
play defense like it's I don't know, I I'll be honest.
They used to play some yeah, um, because it's not
like you're gonna get hurt playing like normal defense, like
he doesn't need to take a charge, doesn't mean you
(02:00:47):
go Charlie hustle and plow some plow ray FLOSSI at
the at the plate. But I don't understand why you
don't play like some form of defense that said, I
I never watched in the NBA All Star Game. I'll
just be no, not do it reason it's yeah, okay,
you can't play scared. The inside. The NBA crew is
going to l A for the late Christmas contest Lakers
(02:01:09):
hosting Minnesota. They're not only going to do their pregame,
halftime post game coverage live from the arena there in
l A, They're gonna be calling the game for the
first time. Those four guys are gonna be calling the
TMT game late Christmas Night Lakers Timberwolves. Wait wait, they're
gonna be call the game as well. Yes, Barkley, Kenny Smith,
Shack with Ernie Johnson, and they're gonna do all their
(02:01:30):
other stuff from the arena that they normally do. Um, wait,
four people, that's gonna be terrible, and then halftime it'll
be them again. Party don't mind. I just I think
Ernie Johnson is great. I don't think he's He's no.
One thinks he's great as a play by play guy.
(02:01:51):
And then trying to work in four guys, I guess
it doesn't matter an NBA game. Um, it could be good,
but it could be really ad. But whatever, it's it's
the it's the Timberwools versus the Lakers. It's not like
it's you know, Lakers Celtics in the in the late
eighties and the NBA Finals. Something different. At ten forty
Eastern on Christmas Night, and there's high school basketball team
(02:02:12):
in Powers, Michigan North Central that had an eighty four
game winning streak ended if that was the record for
most consecutive victories on the Michigan books. They're back in
their home gym for a game tonight. They hadn't lost
until last week, hadn't lost a game in about three years.
They lost this one by twenty two points. Is that
a Powers outage? Oh? Very good? A team that won
(02:02:35):
three championships didn't have any players on it. Man, that's
that's really my question. Did pick up some fins in
case anybody's wondering for the for the little dude for
Hanukka Christmas. We gotta figure out what he's gonna get.
So now I gotta figure out what I get Ramos.
So when I get I know, I know, I know,
I know, I get eight oh five beer. Is apparently
(02:02:57):
what I'm sent out to buy for Ryan Music is
eight oh five beer expensive? I mean, not particularly it's
kind of just I mean, it's not like any other
domestic beer. It's like it's not like I'm buying you
a case of Natty right, Okay, good good. Are you
guys enjoyed the football game. I'll enjoy the basketball game
and then enjoy a holiday concert. Great day tomorrow on
(02:03:21):
The Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio,
