(00:27):
you got us at John Ramos here for this Friday
Romos again. Get you set for a Game three of
the World Series Dodgers and Red Sox in l a Jonas.
I've seen a lot of Dodger caps around the city
today getting ready for tonight's Game three. Won't see him
that much longer. By the way, b k R is back.
All right, Yes we are. For the next three hours.
(00:50):
We have got you covered for what will will be
a an entertaining week eate the National Football League season.
An interesting weekend in college football because there are a
lot of Markis matchups. You've got Georgia Florida is one
that will have our eye on for sure, But you've
got some of the better teams in college football not
playing this weekend. We mentioned baseball got the NBA grabbing
(01:12):
some headlines early on in this season as well. Glad
to have you with us. Just because Doug's here doesn't
mean that things change. The only things that really change
are the Twitter handles that you can reach us at.
I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox Jonas. If they wanted
to reach you on Twitter, where could they do so? At? J. S.
Ramo Sero said, John Ramos. Your Twitter handle to send
(01:33):
out to everybody is Nie boy at all? Right? There
is was that with two X is show I'll take
my shirt off right now, I'll do it. Gosh, jeez,
(01:53):
why does he do this though? It's just it's ridiculous.
I mean, just the negativity and and he's and he's
been drinking all morning, so take to pile that on
with everything else. We are in for Doug today and
happy to do so. And and we're just as happy
as probably the Houston Texans after they got a win
last night against the Miami Dolphins to start off Week eight. Now,
the news wasn't great today when they found out that
(02:14):
will Fuller was lost for the season with a torn
a c L. But when you look at the game
as a whole, you've now got a Houston Texans team
that is sitting atop the a f C South. They
are winners of their last five and right now as
we speak, the Jaguars we'll be playing in London coming
up this weekend. You've got the Titans who are on
(02:35):
a by this weekend, so they're not gonna play. But
as we speak right now, the Houston Texans have a
game and a half lead over the rest of the
competition in the National foot in the a f C South,
in the National Football League. All that being said, Jonas,
with the last night's great win with a cushion on
top with a five game winning streak, I still have
(02:56):
absolutely positively zero confident in who the Houston Texans are. Oh,
I don't buy him for a second. This is such
a flawed five game winning streak. Can we go through
in effect in find go through every single game to
just name the team that they won, and I will
find a flaw within how they won that game and
why it was it took some sort of help from
(03:19):
the other team to make that happen. So the first
one of the season came against it. Well, let me
let me just say this. Off the heels of their
loss to the Giants. Okay, so that that should say
enough as well. Off the loss of the Giants that
dropped them to own three, the Texans went to Indianapolis
to face their division rival in the Indianapolis Colts. Oh
you mean that one game that Bill O'Brien was trying
(03:42):
to tie but instead one because Frank Reich thought it
was a great idea to have Andrew Luck throw a
groundball on fourth and five and overtime in his own territory.
Oh that one that their own coach was okay tying
because he opted for a field goal and not to
win the game him earlier in the overtime on the
previous drive. Oh that one, that's true. On October seven,
(04:07):
they returned home for a Sunday night affair against the
Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott, Ezekiel, Elliott and Grew rolling into
h Town in the Battle of the Great State of Texas.
Do you mean that one game where Jason Garrett decided
to play conservative to the point to where his only
defender over the past six to seven years in an
(04:29):
in a subpar to average coaching career has been Jerry Jones.
Jerry Jones even criticized him for the poor decision in
overtime to not go for it on fourth down. Oh,
that one that resulted in another Houston Texans winning overtime. Okay,
I got you. How about the Cowboys? Yeah, I got you.
That's your two game win streak. Oh, guess who's coming
(04:50):
into town them Buffalo Bills. Then Buffalo Bills. Yeah, in
the Houston on October four. Yeah, Well, let me tell
you some then. It's always really impressive when you can
beat a team on a pick six from Nathan Peterman,
especially a team who in one off season had a
wide receiver try and jump out of a hotel window,
(05:12):
had a former lineman trying to remove his father's head
from a funeral home, and also had a player retire
at halftime. But no, don't worry about it, everybody. You
are all good here. Oh, let's not mention Lashawn McCoy,
who may or may not have hired somebody to go
steal jewelry from his ex. But never mind that. That
is a quality win for the Houston Texas Texans, the
(05:33):
nut cover in that win against the Buffalo bill Hey,
when's it win? Dan? A win is a win. Let's
take this show on the road to Jacksonville, so well,
you know, it's always impressive. And let me tell you something.
If you're talking about resume builders, I don't know where
Bill O'Brien's going next, But forget about what he did
(05:54):
at Penn State, and let's forget about the playoff appearances
in Houston. What I want him to put first on
his resume is once beat Blake Bortles and Cody Kess
because I'll tell you something, man, that that that will
really get you into the Hall of Fame. Two that's
what they've got. Dude's better than one. Dan got it
in Jacksonville, that two headed monster at quarterback, and that
(06:15):
brings us in that four game win streak, brings us
to where we were last night. Nice when the Texans
hosted the Miami Adults. Awesome. Yeah, a backup quarterback on
a short week and a defense who looks like they're
playing in reverse. I have. I don't know if they
somehow got got the rules mixed up, and it's maybe
they assume that it's you know, if you allow the
most points, uh, they actually get taken away at the
(06:38):
end of the game and it makes you the winner.
But I've never seen more open receivers downfield in my well, no,
that's let me take that back. Uh yeah, Mitch Drabinsky
put up a great performance against the Dolphins outut to
show you, show you how good that defense is. I
just don't buy it, man, I don't. I don't buy
this at all. And I know everyone's excited in Houston
and it's great. Yes, you're getting wins, and they've got
(07:00):
a favorable schedule coming up. But I just see them
as as one of these teams that's probably gonna win
their division. They're probably going to host a playoff game.
Who knows, maybe they'll fluke out of win there as
well too, and everybody's gonna jump on the hype train,
and then they're gonna go play the real deal in
New England or Pittsburgh or somewhere else, and they're gonna
get blasted. I just I don't buy it whatsoever. In Houston.
They've got a schedule that you could look at, and
(07:22):
they're at Denver next week, which I'm not sold on Denver.
I don't think anybody really is either. But the point
is is going to Denver can prove to be difficult.
As we even saw the best team in the National
Football League and the Rams have some trouble against the
Broncos in the game that the Rams did win. There's
there's more to the question of the Texans and maybe
(07:42):
Jonas it's it's a it's a flashback to last year
because some people would say it's what could have been
for the Houston Texans, what could have been if Deshaun
Watson would have stayed healthy. At the point that Deshaun
Watson injured his knee last year in that game against
the Seahawks and then ended up being lost for the
season soon after that, the Texas were only a three
(08:03):
win team at the at that midway point of the season,
if you will, So what wasn't like they were sitting
there at six and two and lost their starting quarterbacks,
not even a five team last year, and now you
look at how they won with what they've got. They
still have issues at the offensive line. They've got a
quarterback that is fragile, that needs to take busses to
road games, and now you've lost a wide receiver in
(08:28):
Will Fuller for this season that was a big play threat.
And some of those big plays last night, nobody was
guarding anyone and so so the point is when you
when you look at last night's game, taking a mind
that the Dolphins are twenty seventh in points allowed, twenty
seven in total yards a game and rushing yards, is
that out of sixty teams and the CFL teams, and
(08:53):
that I think Edmonton is actually nine. So they're actually
think guys are better in Saskatchewan. Yeah, that's good news.
That's good news. The Texans five and three with the
division lead and all of that being said, it's just
really tough for me to believe in they may win
the division just because of how the division plays out. Jonas,
(09:14):
but you can't tell me right now that this team
is even close to being in the same category as
the Kansas City Chiefs of the New England Patriots, not
even put. The Chargers have some of their deficiencies, but
at least if you're if you've got the Texans being
who they are, I at least think that the Chargers
are just a better version of what the Texans are.
And I try, and I'm very critical of myself and
(09:34):
maybe I'm like, maybe I'm just I can't get the
optics out of my mind of the a f C
South being bad because I honestly don't remember a time
when the a f C South was good. I really don't.
I'm trying last year the only year. Yeah, but but still,
even those two playoff teams, you look at them and
you go, I mean, who's really taking them seriously? I mean,
(09:56):
Jacksonville was a surprise what they did, but nobody could
rely on Blake Bortles. You're seeing that play out again.
So I'm aware that I sort of go into this
with a little bit of a bias and that I
just don't assume that a team from the a f
C South is not going to be any good. And
I'm trying to be honest about it, and I'm trying
to look at it from all angles, and I just
don't see anything about the Houston Texans that would scare
(10:17):
me if I was another a f C team. And
I know that everybody loves Deshaun Watson and they were
hyping him up and talking about, oh man, what a
great player he was a year ago. He had some
good performances, um he was also averaging over an interception
a game. Let's slow down on DeShawn on Deshaun Watson.
And I know, just because Dabos when he said he's
gonna be the next Michael Jordan's doesn't mean that he's
(10:38):
actually going to be the next Michael Jordan's just I
think we need to relax. I'm not buying into the Texans.
The Dolphins are a disaster. Do you see their defensive
coordinator throwing things on the ground and having a tantrum
in that game? What are you doing? And what are
you doing? And like, is that just to make it
seem like you're fired up about what's going on with
the defense, you've gotta embarrass the national TV there. There
(11:00):
was a point last night and this will tell you there.
There are three outcomes in feelings you get from trick plays.
For example, if the New England Patriots run a trick
play and it succeeds, you're like, jeez, now we've got
a plan for this the next week. Now, teams have
got to look at this. If you're a bad team
and you've hung in there and now all of a
sudden you hit on a trick play, it's like everything
(11:22):
is coming up roses for this team, it's their day.
The Dolphins trick play last night was this is all
we've got, So let's let Danny Amadola throw a touchdown
pass to pull us within a touchdown throw that that's
what it was last night from the Miami Dolphins, to
show you exactly where they are. Yeah, Um, that was
a bad You want to know how bad that game
was last night? I mean we loved it. Look, I
mean the broadcast. I still watched it all. Yeah, this
(11:46):
is how call you know, Like, honestly, this is how
bad it was. I peaked for a moment at a
Minnesota Wild game. Idea, no idea, why. I just had
the edge. You needed to scratch it, man. Five minutes
left is when I turned it off, and then I
switched over to the Nuggets Lakers game, which we'll get
into later. But that's I was. I was. I was
on this game in and out at times because I
(12:07):
was but had it on the radio. Yeah, I was
locked in on this game last night for whatever reason.
It tells you all my life. Do you like appetizers?
You're big fan appetizers. I love appetizers. Um, if you
go to a place and they've got bad appetizers, it's
kind of a prelude into what you can expect the
whole meal to be, because if you f up Buffalo
wings or Manzarella sticks. You're an idiot. Um. If this
(12:28):
is a prelude to what week it's going to be,
We're screwed. We are screwed. I'm sorry, I don't know.
Maybe maybe cults Raiders can be that nice Porterhouse steak
that comes on your plate, or or the delicious seared
scallops that is forty Niners Cardinals. Uh. Dan Buyer Jonas

we are in for Doug today here on Fox Sports

(14:44):
somewhat English, but I was just too lazy for them
correct the typo. So you're gonna just get what you're
gonna get. But we're glad to be with you here
on Fox Sports Radio, getting you set for a busy
weekend utterly in college football, but obviously the NFL is
Week eight started last night with the Texans taking down
the Dolphins. Joining us now former NFL scout that you
can hear on the Three and Out podcast on the
(15:05):
Herd Podcast Network, John Middlecoff joins us here on Fox
Sports Radio. Hey, John, how's your Friday going? It's going good.
How are you guys doing? We are doing well, and
we know that the Houston Texans are doing well after
their win last night. But are you a believer in
what Bill O'Brien has right now in Houston? Yeah? I'd
like Bill O'Brien. You know, since I actually went to
(15:27):
a practice his first spring at and State. I just
remember being bored by how high level it was. And
obviously he's hit some bumps in the road since coming
to the NFL. Well, I mean, this is by far
the best quarterback he ever had once he started the
last year before he got hurt. You know, they were
humming on offense. Now you start owing three in the NFL,
(15:49):
I mean we all know you're in big trouble. But
five straight wins. After the game last night, I peaked
at their schedule. It's not very tough. I mean, I
think they're a borderline law to probably win ten games.
I feel they're one winning nine and nine, probably winning
that division. But if you look at their schedule, what's
pretty conducive. I don't think. I think it's crazy to
(16:11):
get to eleven wins now that would be like finished
in the season. Probably you have to seven one or
six and two. But they're humming on offense now. Will
Fuller is a big loss. But if J J. Watt
can look like peak J J. Watt, you know, I
don't think the casual NFL fan realized he has eight back.
I mean he's on page if Khalil Max, you know,
(16:33):
ankle slosing down the rest of the year. J J.
Watt might win another defensive Envy, you know, player of
the Year. It's amazing. John John Middlecoff joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio. It's amazing when you go back
and you look how they got their first win a
game in which Bill O'Brien elected to go for the
tie in overtime, and it was Frank Reich's controversial decision
to go for it on fourth down in their own territory,
(16:56):
which which set them up for a field goal late
in that game to win a game. At that point,
there were people talking about Bill O'Brien. Uh, definitely on
the hot seat. He was on the hot seat a
year ago. There were rumors like that, How how close
was he to being let go last season? I would
say the one thing about the Texans is they they
feel pretty ill. When we talked about hot seat a lot,
(17:19):
and it's just a natural conversation and what we do.
But they're pretty stable. I mean, they stuck by Gary
Kubiak for a long time. It took a devastating season
for him to lose, you know, his job. But when
they were oh and three, I thought this year was
much more real than last year because Deshaun Watson was back.
But I think we have to be careful and I
find myself doing it too. Is when a guy comes
(17:41):
back from NPL injury in any sport, but especially football,
and he saw it this year with some prominent quarterbacks
and went and to Shawn I lived in the Bay Area.
We're gonna see it next year with Jimmy is. I
think everyone is held to the Adrian Peter standard. Adrian Peter,
you know when he came back and looked like a
version of a computers and whatever. That's not normal. It
(18:03):
takes some time, man. I think you've seen that with
the Shaun Watson. Uh, their coaches were saying, you know,
it's the best game he's played. I mean, obviously, but
just the best physically he's looked, and he looked more
like Clemson to Shaun Watson. But it takes time. To
me the big key for them. No, it's just it's defense,
you know, j J crushing it. Clowney looks awesome, honey Badger,
(18:24):
and it looks like a great decision by him to
end up in Houston that that defense is pretty good.
John Middlecoff joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Jonas Stocks, I'm Dan Buyer. We are in for Doug
today on the Doug Gottlieb Show. And just to wrap
up last night, by the way, John, Jonas and I
aren't believers in the Texans in the a f C.
Right now just of where the Chiefs and Patriots are
and in that division, just I just don't see them
(18:46):
to that level of which we and like, like I said,
they're gonna end up you know, ted division and then
and then you can't be shocked when they get bounced,
you know, on that first because they'll they'll probably be
the three seed and they might be playing if the
Chargers were the I maybe like the Steelers or they've
easily lose in the first round. What about Adam Gays
in Miami? Is there any danger in there for him
(19:09):
playoff his first year but just six wins last year?
Is there any danger for him in the Dolphins in future? Think?
I think if we take a step back, everyone will
acknowledge he is a good offensive coach. Right when he's
had a healthy Tanny Hill, they have scored points. The
problem is organizationally, they've gone all in on Tanny Hill
and he's just you know, he hadn't you know, left
(19:31):
it down because he's screwed up. Just he can't stay healthy.
And it's pretty clear now you just can't depend on him,
you know, judge him with both and off Wailer, the
biggest problem is he is queerly and most offensive coaches
are they know nothing about defense. So their defensive coordinator
(19:55):
is huge. And last night, said Matt Burke, I think
his name is due with the beer throwing his It's like,
you can do all that stuff, but eventually it's like,
can you tell your guys the cover? Because that's all
the hype on de Seawan and Less. I'm not trying
to be negative Dancy. He's I like Desjohn Watson, but
I learned when I was in the league he had
(20:15):
it bad jokes. You know, We're gonna hold on to
John because John's phone connection is about the way the
Dolphins are playing right now, so so we'll try to
clear that up, hopefully that Adam Gays can turn things around.
But I think John is at least on the same
(20:35):
page with us with both of these teams that we
saw last night. So yeah, look, and Houston is set
up for success and they're going to go to the playoffs,
and sometimes you need some of these breaks, man, You
need the schedule to give you a favorable break. There.
They remind me a lot of the Oakland Raiders of
two thousand sixteen, because the more that you actually go
back and look at that season, the more you realize
(20:57):
there were so many things that went their way. There
were so many and so that's why when you come
back a couple of years later and you're shocked at
all the moves that they're making. No, No No, maybe we
just overrated who they were as a team. And I
feel like that's kind of what the Texans are at
this point, which means I'm betting against them every single
game a year from now, every single game. The Dolphins
and Texans got things going in Week eight, the Sun
(21:20):
and Night game should be magnificent Vikings in a rematch
of that divisional playoff games that from a year ago.
That Do you say Minnesota Miracle or the Minneapolis Miracle,
because I've heard both and I've never heard confirmation on
what we're actually supposed to call it. I go a
Minneapolis Miracle. I think that's probably better and it's more specific.
I mean, if we're if we're gonna be honest about it,
(21:42):
we should call it the Marcus Williams Miracle because it's
a miracle that he completely with to un tackle it
in the Minnesota Miracle, is anybody who lives in northwestern Minnesota,
because there is nothing in the northwestern Minnesota except a
sign that says Grand Forks miles. That's all that you
(22:06):
would you would see in northwest Minnesota. That's the Minnesota
America that people actually live there because there's just nothing
going on there. Home of and it also says a
home of scottch Shapiro and Roco Baldelli. That's true, seven
year old Rocko Baldelli. Now we got John Middlecoff back
on the line with US Saints Vikings this weekend in Minneapolis.
(22:28):
How much, okay, aside from a case Keenum pass that
wins it to Stefon Diggs with no time left, how
much of the game that we saw last year are
we gonna see Sunday night between these two teams. You know,
it's hard to tell. I mean, it's one of the
better games of the year so far, just on paper. Yeah,
you know, I just think from an exciting level for
us to watch, I saw this morning it doesn't look
(22:50):
like Davier Rhodes is gonna play. I mean that that
would be a major problem for Minnesota. I think New
Orleans might be. I know the hype on the Rams
and it is justifiable, but I think the Saints are
the best team in the NFC and that they're my
pick right now to win the conference. So but I
also like Minnesota. I've never really, you know, dipped and
(23:12):
jumped off the bandwagon. I know when they started slow
and they won two and one I think, and they
had that tough loss on Thursday Night football to the Ramps. Uh.
They've won three games in a row, and if they
win this game, you know, they'd be five two and one,
and we started talking aboutout them like they'll be right
up there with the Saints, uh, and the Rams as well.
So I think there's a clear top tier and that's
(23:33):
the Rams and the Saints. And this is a big
game for Minnesota, who you know, they've paid a lot
of money for a quarterback. They viewed themselves as one
of the top teams in the league. I mean, they
were in the NFC Championship Game last year. So if
they win, I think we have to talk about them
like a legitimate Super Bowl contender in there. John middle Coop,
former NFL scout, joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. John,
(23:53):
A team that you know really well, Um you're in
the Bay Area, the Oakland Raiders. We're hearing a lot
of drama coming out of Oakland. Um, you know, big
time players being traded. You're hearing Derek Carr is crying
during the game, You're hearing teammates have soured on Derek Carr. There.
What what's really happening in Oakland with Gruden? What's the
future look like in the future of Derek car specifically?
(24:16):
I think the Raiders are just kind of becoming the
Raiders again, you know, I mean this is this is
the Raiders of the last fifth game years where young
players you know, go to have issues. And that's why
I think everyone was so bullish on the Raiders a
couple of years ago. They had some young guys that
didn't feel like Raiders. They were high character, never been
in trouble, and elite players. It was like, damn, this
(24:37):
isn't this isn't normal. The Raiders are used to missing
on their picks, are used to having issues with guys
they draft. But I think at the end of the day,
Gruden is a little out of touch. Uh. It has
not gone very well. It's a very bizarre situation. You know,
when the Rams and the Chargers decided to leave, they
just left. Well, the Raiders didn't really have anywhere to
(24:57):
go or play, So they were just stuck here for
these two you're really potentially three and now they're trading
away all their players. Uh. You know it's also whenever
you trade players for picks, everyone just assumes you're going
to nail the pick. Well, the Raiders have a long
history of missing picks. John Gruden has a long history.
I think he's a good coach, Like I think he's
a good offensive coach. I would not want him to
(25:19):
be my GAM and right now, with the contracts he has,
in the power of juice he has in that organization,
he is a GM. So to me, that's the biggest
maybe red flag moving forward because they I'll give him
credit and I like him more coopid, but they got
a first round pick for him, and obviously they got
a lot for Khalil mac of course they did. I mean,
he's Khalil Mack. Uh. So they just gotta have to
(25:40):
hit some picks. But even if you do hit on
draft picks, he doesn't. They're not gonna be good next year.
They may be like a year away from being two
years away. John Middlcoff last one for me joining us
here at the Doug outlip Show on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer. How many moves do
you think we're gonna see before Tuesday's trade deadline? Not
that many. I mean, I I miss the NFL, and
(26:03):
I know we've seemed more recently, but it's it's nothing
compared to the NBA or Major League Baseball. It's just
not really the sport works. I mean, I would imagine
if Philly wins this weekend in London, they'll do something.
How he's really aggressive and they have a history of
trading for players, you know. I we just talked about
the Raiders. To me, that would be by four. You know.
(26:24):
I think if they got the right offer, I know
we said they wouldn't trade them, but I don't believe them.
If someone offered a first round pick, I think they
would trade Derek Carr. The problem is that someone gonna
offer a first round pick, but you can never say never,
but that that would be by far the biggest name
to potentially be moved. I don't see, you know, just marginal,
functional starters, nothing, no stars or anything. Find them on
(26:46):
Twitter at John Middlecoff and check out the three and
podcast on The Herd podcast Network, John Middlecoff, we appreciate it.
Enjoy the weekend, John, Thanks Sols, have a good one.
He is Dan Buyer. I am Jonas Knox him for
Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio coming up next.
There is a fan base out there. It's a really
large fan base who did something very very pathetic last
night in the world of sports. We'll tell you who
(27:08):
you are coming up next year on ms ARE, but
for all the latest from around the world of sports.
I call him the most violent man in sports talk radio.
Ladies and gentlemen, make way for the great Ralph Urban. Well,
thank you very much, Jonas. And it will be game
number three tonight of the World Series Boston Red Sox
playing in l A against the Dodgers, and Rick Porcella
(27:30):
will get the start for the Red Sox. You may
not know this, but he was three for seven at
the point this year. He's looking forward to take into
some cuts at Dodger Stadium. I wouldn't necessarily call it
an offensive group said the entire years or some pretty
lucky hits, but uh, I don't know. Hopefully we've got
one more in there, but honestly, I hope that I
(27:50):
get three or four at bats, and I'm laying down
sack bunts because that means that we've got a lot
of guys on the bases and I'm in the game
for a while. The Dodgers will counter with Walker Bueller
first pitch, eight o'clock Eastern. Of course, that game will
be on Fox TV. Houston coach Bill O'Brien did confirm
earlier today than Texans wide receiver Will Fuller tore his
a c L he will be out for the rest
(28:12):
of the season. And tonight's Discover Card key matchup, the
Ottawa Senators take on the Colorado Avalanche at nine pm Eastern.

(28:33):
And Adrian Willowski reporting that the Rockets are offering the
Timberwolves for future first round picks for Jimmy Butler. That
deal likely could not happen though before next Wednesday. Yes,
some rare NBA news here on a Friday, guys, Thank
you very much, Ralph. We appreciate it. This is the
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. No Doug Today.
(28:54):
So you've got us John Ramos, Jonas Knocks, and myself,
Dan Buyer hanging out big, big night in l A
last night, Man, huge, Dan, Huge, huge night in Los
Angeles because the Los Angeles Lakers. Yeah, you heard it.
I gotta win against the Nuggets. You know what. I'm
(29:15):
standing up for that, damn. Let's stand up. Stand up
in the studio, standing three, I'll stand up, all right,
everybody standing. He's playing some d ball over there. The
Nuggets come to town. They they ain't beating no more. Okay.
(29:38):
By the way, there's a guy also standing up outside
the studio. I thought he was clapping. It's a homeless
man taking a leak. Look at that plane sitting on
the highway. That was you the other day. Right. Look
at that plane over on the highway. By the way.
That guy, the idiot who landed the plane on the
one on one out here, that guy should have to
pay for my gas and my insurance for the next
(29:58):
sixty days. I'll lot Pedro. That guy's a moron. Guys,
I don't know if you realize it. The Lakers beat
the Nuggets seven last night, they're back there. Yeah. Now,
let me ask you, this was the reaction to the
Lakers beating the Nuggets. Was it worse than when they
(30:19):
won the Summer League title and we're pouring aquaphene on
each other? Okay, I think it's a very good, very
good comparison. I think last night's was worse for the
simple fact of we're five games into the regular season
and the Lakers and their fan base, we're celebrating, no
disrespect to the Nuggets who were unbeaten, but they were
(30:43):
celebrating a seven point win over Denver because it also
came on the heels of a win at Phoenix, Like
that's where that's where Lakers basketball has been as of late.
So this proud France shoes with their what seventeen titles?
Is that what it is? John, you're the fans, whatever
(31:07):
it is. The point being is that much John's getting
a soccer lineupset for the least softball, that's what it is.
Who's gonna bat eighth? The Lakers are celebrating their second
win of the season against the Nuggets on October That
tells you at least the Summer league. Jonas was Okay,
(31:29):
maybe We're starting to turn this around like this is.
Kobe was courtside, it was a big deal. Lebron was
doing his things. And I do think the Lakers will
be better. And I do that think the Lakers in
the next couple of years will be contending for the
Western Conference crown and maybe an NBA crown. But last
night was amazing to see the energy and excitement over
(31:51):
a regular season win on octobery against Denver. Look, I
poke fun it at people that go to Comic Con,
and it's all in jest. It just busting some balls. Um.
I mean, if you if you get excited and want
to dress up like he man um and every June
or whenever it is, and go to Comic Con in
San Diego and pass up all the beautiful beaches so
you can have somebody autograph one of your, uh, your
(32:15):
action figures that you bought at the Toys r US
close out. That's fine, you go do what you gotta do.
I'm not here to judge anybody, and I don't want
to make fun of Laker fans all the way by
celebrating a win over the Nuggets. But let me ask
you this, Dan, if the Dodgers were up to oh
in the World Series, would they be this excited about
the l A Lakers. I would say, no, yeah, yeah,
you're right. They're so desperate for something to rally around.
(32:38):
They've got to have something to rally around, and so
they get excited over this stuff. And it's great having
Lebron in l A. And there's good storylines there and
it's a lot of fun. But just the idea that
that's where this organization is at, that's where the franchise
has fallen. That a regular season win over the Nuggets
to move to two and three on the year is
now a big deal for the Lake. People were calling
(32:59):
this a statement win because you were able to stop
the Nicola joke train. That is that what? That what?
That's that's what we call a statement victory now in
the NBA. Look, he's a really good center, but let's
be real here, this is the Lakers can hang their
head on this and the worst defensive team in the
Western Conference A yeah, so you've got that. At least
(33:19):
you've got that update in the entire NBA. So so
so they they're giving up the most people there. It is.
Look at that other teams scoring us again. By the way,
is um Is mak mood abdul r Nuggets? Oh he's
in the Big Three. He was like, yeah, that's not
up to speed on my my Nuggets. What about Rodney
(33:43):
Rogers Rodney Rodgers left handed? Yea, yeah, Ken being with Tumbo,
that statement went over the Sonics. That's kind of where
these New Jersey's kind of took a turn. They kind
of took that baby Blue out of it and tried
to go to the mid nineties Nuggets. But Denver's gonna
be good. Denver's gonna make the playoffs. They were on
the cusp last season, uh the year before close as well.
(34:04):
But to celebrate a winning this wasn't This wasn't the Rockets,
this wasn't Golden State, this wasn't the Celtics. This is
the Denver Nuggets. That may tell you actually how far things,
how bad things have gotten for the Lakers that they're
celebrating game number five. I will say this, We'll poke
found at the Nuggets. You know what Denver does have,
Dan what's that weed they do? They do got the gones.
(34:26):
So do my neighbors who somehow, Oh yeah, I got
some pot chunkies to you, you know, like just one night,
please talk about man. Just just They don't even ask
next door say no, I'm good, I'm good, go to
the other side of your yard. My girlfriend told me
(34:46):
she knows I'm mean a dieting and fitness and she said,
you know, my my little brother had for breakfast yesterday. Well,
what's that She's like weed? What do you mean like
he was eating it. He's saying, now he's smoking weed
in his cart like six in the morning. I think
the synthetic marijuana story might be just a story. John
Ramos was on the cover of Wheaties. Yeah, John, by
(35:12):
the way, John put the pot down seriously, jokes over
the Lakers, by the way, two and three. And if
the playoffs started today, would not be in the playoff
would not be it would be the It would be
the ten seed. And that is on the outside looking in.
That's because they would be tent because of their tiebreakers
over the Kings and timber Wolves, who are eleven. It's well,
you know, there was a professional wrestler years ago. They
(35:34):
called him the Legend Killer because he beat a bunch
of legends. His name was Randy Orton. We should call
Dan Buyer the excitement killer, because right when your team
gets excited about something, the Texas and the Lakers Dans
right there to crush your last dreams. It's gonna be
representative Buyer. If you're having a good day, I'll make
it worse by all right, Dan Buyer, Jonas stocks in

Thanks for spending your Friday with us, And because you
spent your Friday with us, let's have some fun with
the game sake. This is game time Tide on the
Doug Got Leap Show. Ralph Irvin hanging out on this Friday. Hello, Ralph,
what what game do we have today? Psychic? We've got
(37:07):
ah psychic? Alright, so Ralph's gonna throw up some scenarios
and we'll see if the psychic because you can see
into the future because Ralph is still violent. What's going on? Ralph?
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the Dallas Morning News they
wouldn't have paid such a high price for Amari Cooper
(37:28):
if not for the fact that they didn't want to
keep him long term. Well, Cooper resigned with the Cowboys
long term after this We resigned, right, not resigned. He's
not gonna step down, He's gonna resign. So he resigned
with the Dallas Cowboys after this season. Well, the music
stopping is not a good sign. So I'm going to say, no,
(37:48):
what is going on today? What? Okay? Now we're back
on the weirdest Friday? A kidding you? I don't think
that it would be a smart move, I said, but
I'm gonna change my mind on this. You know why, Jonas,
Because on Monday, for an hour on this exact show,
ripping Jason Garrett to shreds, you mentioned the Texans game
(38:11):
with the Cowboys. Let's talk about the Redskins game this
past Sunday and how Dallas you split it so conservatively
ended up losing on that field goal that hit the upright.
The Jason Garrett heat that he was getting immediately disappeared
when the front office says, hold my beer, we're gonna
give up a first round pick for Cooper. No one
(38:33):
talked about Jason Garrett and his issues anymore. So it
would be so like the Cowboys to resign a Mariti Cooper. Well,
he's got to justify his pick, right, He's got to
actually got to justify the trade. Right. So of course
they're going to resign him because he's got to make
it seem like that's the guy we identified all along.
Of course, we are good with this this man. We're
gonna give him a contract extension. And and look, it's
(38:54):
not everybody does that. If you overpay for something you
want to get the most you can possibly get for it.
And and we all know that if you you'll sometimes
you buy a new coat, it could be eighty three
degrees out, and you're gonna wear that coat because you
just bought it. You do not care. And it's just
so Jason Garrett, He's gonna wear this coat out. And
even if he knows he's not getting what he should
(39:15):
probably get production wise from a Marie Cooper, he's still
going to maintain his love for a Mari Cooper. He's
a loyal guy and he's gonna go with the long
term extension for Cooper. It's like I got a haircut
yesterday and I got this ZiT on my forehead. You
think you're gonna wear a hat today? No? I don't
even notice it. Yeah, yeah, you know. I haven't gotten
that far up yet. All right, what do we got
(39:37):
for psychic Psychic number two? You guys mentioned this earlier
with John Middelkoff. We have a rematch of the NFC
Divisional playoff game between the Saints and the Vikings this Sunday.
Do the Saints get revenge for the Minneapolis Miracle? Um? No?
I like the way that the Vikings are playing right now,
I really do. I think I Minnesota's at home. The
(40:00):
defense seems to have come around. I know that John
didn't like that Xavier Rhodes was out, but I think
that they'll be able to keep the Saints running game
in check. And then and the the wide receiving duo
that you've got in Minnesota, with the amazing season Theland's
having and stefanat the Vikings this weekend. Um, I you
know the Saints are good too. I almost feel like
the Saints have won five in a row and they're
(40:20):
under the radar because I think we made more of
a deal about Drew Brees breaking the record and getting
a piece of notebook paper after he broke the record
on Monday Night football, which I'm still trying to figure.
At least get the guy a Peche folder or a
Trapper keeper he give a blank piece of notebook paper.
Um that I feel like they've been under the radar.
But Minnesota, to their credit since that Thursday night lost
to the Rams. And you can say whatever you want
(40:42):
about Kirk Cousins and he's not a top tier quarterback.
He's been unbelievable this year. He still turns the ball
over too much. But look at his numbers, look at
the way he plays in a shootout game. He went
toe for he went a tat for tat with Aaron
Rodgers in lambeau Field. I think he's been a great signing.
I like the Vikings on Sunday night. We got time
(41:03):
for one more Ralph. Game three of the World Series
is tonight. Games four and five scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The question is will the World Series extend beyond this weekend? Well,
we have weekday baseball on Tuesday in Boston. Do you
want to go first on this? Yeah? No shot, Sorry donez.
(41:25):
Don You can blame Dave Roberts all you want. Bottom line,
the Red Sox are just a better team than the Dodgers, period.
End of story. Stop pointing fingers at Dave Roberts and
point the thumb back at yourself and say, why did
I go out and buy that? Ya? C l P
week Jersey put it on the shelf. It's a rap.
After this weekend, I like Walker on the Dutla Show.
(41:49):
I gave John the rap single signal and then I
just started the talk. I like Walker Bueller tonight. I
think that the Dodgers do win tonight, whether they win
Saturday or Sunday, that's something to be seen. Will Baker
Mayfield get his biggest win as a pro? Coming up
on Sunday? Are you gonna tell us next time? We
will tell you next year on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

is here as well. And for those that are interested,
there is a rumor going around that there could be
(42:31):
there might be a John Ramos show today here on
Fox Sports Radio. Man, I got so excited there for
a couple of reasons. One, well, to do b k argument,
we haven't done this in a long time, and this
feels like home. But two you sounded like Harry Carry there?
Did I think it was like a Harry Carry? It
could be. It might be it's caught by Vince Coleman
(42:53):
at the track. But to to the dot, why boch that?
But oh Harry, um, that's a groundball to shore? Darn
throws it the first Astro's lead one nothing year at
(43:13):
Wrigley the is this true? John? Is there is there?
Can you confirm or deny that there may be a
John Ramo show? You know, I was asking Ryan a
little earlier. I cannot confirm or deny this rumor that's
been swirling around the studios. Maybe Ryan knows more about something. Well,
I'll tell you this much, Sean, if it was up
to me, we would not be doing it. Oh my god,
that is just I mean, look, it's fine to say
(43:35):
that on the air, Ran. You didn't have to flip
the guy off behind his back. Us. I wonder if
John will catch Ryan with a switch blade in the Yeah.
One of my favorite pro wrestling names of all time
Dan Rudy switch Blade. I think that's John Ramos Johnny
switch Blade. Uh, you know, I don't know if my
kid wrestling name was Dynamite Danes. After I pinned the guy,
(44:01):
I light a firecracker on his chest. Yeah, that was
that was my idea as a kid, not knowing the
actual damage that a firecracker could do it to human flesh,
but that was going to be my finishing move. Now,
did you have a name for the finishing move like
the piccolo peach? I didn't have a move. I just
(44:24):
had what I was gonna do to the guy, like
when Jake the Snake would throw Damien on the Like,
my thing was going to be, well, I'm dynamite Dan,
so let's put an explosive on the guy I just beat.
That's what my wrestling finishing act was going to be.
But the actual move like top rope, you know, from
the turn buckler or something, I didn't have that figure
it out. But I did figure out the pyrotechnics after
(44:47):
the match. By the way, we are going to get
to an NFL story involving a quarterback, I swear to God,
but this is important. We've got a touch on this
while we're here. My name, so I could always take
wrestling moves really well. Like if somebody put me in
a wrestling move, I could ell the crap. I would
go into convulsions. If somebody gave me a stone cold stunner,
I would go into convulsions on the ground. I can
sell moves like nobody else, and I'm really good at it,
(45:09):
and I would jump into the moves and I'd make
everybody look powerful. So when me and my buddies would
be doing like wrestling moves. I was always the guy
that would lose because I could always take the moves
better than everybody else, and I love doing it. But
you know how those guys are called jobbers, um like
they're going to do the job that in the wrestling term,
it's called doing the job, taking the loss so the
other guy can look good. My nickname was Jonas the Jobber,
(45:32):
and so I would would be the guy who would
keept me. And I wonder why I was single for
so long. It just now occurred to me a revelation
here on the air. What a nerd, I'm making fun
of Comic Con and I'm Jonas the Jobber. As a kid,
what a geek? Holy Christ? Would you have? Would you
have like a double Jay's on the shows? You know,
(45:53):
maybe j in duct tape because I couldn't afford the
actual wrestling gear. Yes, mine would have had a stick
of dynamite on the back of my trunks. That's what
it would have been. No, not John, Not an actual
stick of dynamite, but like a you know, like an
explosive like with the with the wick, you know, flying
throwing off sparks. That's after I pinned the guy, I
light a firecracker on his chest. Yes, that's hot man.
(46:17):
Not recommended, that is not No, that is not recommended
at all whatsoever. But that's as a kid that was
not again, not knowing what actual fireworks could do to someone,
I just thought that that would be a great way, really,
a great way to get the crowd out of his feet.
As we continue briefly on our Fourth of July spectacular
here on Fox Sports Radio, what about the what about
(46:39):
the moron? By the way, it's not fourth of July,
it's October, but we're just for some reason we got
into this conversation. Remember the more on a couple of
years ago in Maine, this kid got all hammered. He
was probably drinking like natty light and fireball shots and
they're out in the woods with his buddy and he decides, Hey,
I've got a mortar bomb lighted. I'm gonna set it
on my head and so big explosion. And his friend
(47:02):
walks back over and realizes, Hey, why is Tim four
ft three? Now? What happened here? I don't understand? What
do you think? What's gonna happen? John Ramas, your thoughts,
John Ramos, your thoughts? Did you know that guy John,
I'm sorry, I did not. What are you doing? You're
(47:23):
lighting a mortar bomb on your head? What is that? Idiot?
Come on, his buddy yelled heads up, Come on, come on, jeez. No,
that's we're done. We're done. We're moving on. You know what.
The Texans have an explosive offense. How about that transition
that's three points or was it forty two? I can't remember.
(47:45):
I remember I turned it off the last that the
Houston Texans lit up the scoreboard against the forty two
last twenty three Houston Texans taking it to the Miami Dolphins.
But still after that impressive performance were DeShawn Watson was magnificent,
where Lamar Miller was magnificent, where DeAndre Hopkins was magnificent,
(48:06):
and Will Fuller was magnificent. Unfortunately lost him to an
a c L injury in that game and he's done
for the season. The Texans were firing on all cylinders
last night. But yet the Houston Texans, at five and three,
winners of their last five, aren't believers. In the minds
of myself and Jonas John Middelcoff of the three and
Out Podcast Three and Out podcast, and they heard radio
(48:27):
Network and former NFL scout joined US earlier to weigh
in on his thoughts on what Bill O'Brien has at
Houston after the game last night, I peak that their
schedule it's not very tough. I mean, I think they're
a borderline lock to probably win ten games. I feel
there at nine and nine probably winning that division. But
(48:48):
if you look at their schedule, what's pretty conducive. How
don't think I think it's crazy to get to eleven wins.
They have got Denver next week and they're at Washington.
That game is on the road at Denver. John is right.
With the schedule, you have the Colts still coming into town.
The toughest game is going to be at Philadelphia. Maybe
if Jacksonville can turn it around, that's how they would
end the season. But still, even if you go eleven
(49:09):
and five, it's not a team that I think is
threatening in the National Football League. No, I don't. I
don't buy it. And look the schedule, and to his point,
there's a lot of winnable games there. And also you've
got three straight home games coming up at the end
of November into the early parts of December. So you've
got three straight home games there you start stacking up wins,
(49:31):
looking at how Jacksonville is playing, looking at how the
Indianapolis Colts are still trying to figure out whether or
not um they've got an actual roster around Andrew Luck Uh,
the fact that Marcus Mariotta, who gets more of a
free pass, and any quarterback I've seen in a long
time in the NFL, he stinks period. And so when
you start looking around at the rest of the division,
(49:53):
you realize, man, they're gonna stack up enough wins. But
just look, we have the same conversation about the Kansas
City Chiefs. Seemingly every year, the Kansas City Chiefs will
rattle off a bunch of wins, and nobody takes them
seriously because you just see it over and over again.
It's the same story. You get to the postseason. They're
gonna host a playoff game, they might win that game,
and then they're gonna go on the road and they're
(50:14):
gonna get beat. And I just see the Houston Texans
being a little bit like the Chiefs of years. It's
funny because I do believe in the Chiefs this year,
I do because it's a different one, completely different. But
I felt that way about the Pittsburgh Steelers, where I
just I don't I don't believe in them anymore. And
I feel that they get the opposite where they get
the benefit of the doubt for a team that has
a lot of holes and all we look at and say, oh,
(50:35):
they've got Ben Roethlisburger, Antonio Brown and last year, for example,
Levan Bell, Like that's that's what I think. That we
look at the Pittsburgh Steelers and I'm at the point
of Pittsburgh where I'm still not being sold. They've got
Cleveland this weekend coming into Pittsburgh, a huge game for
Baker Mayfield. Because this is the reason that you draft
Baker Mayfield. You draft him number one overall to go
(50:56):
on the road, to go to Pittsburgh, to shut up
the old city, to leave the field pointing out the
fans with with your finger over your mouth saying keep
quiet the Browns. I hear this is this is the
true Baker Mayfield game that you drafted him. For sure,
there was taking over for Tyrod Taylor. Winning that Sunday
night game. You beat the Ravens in overtime and in
(51:18):
a game where it was a field goal fest. This
is an opportunity where I think that you can put
some points up against the Pittsburgh defense. Maybe Nick Chubb
gets going. But it's a huge statement game for Baker
Mayfield and the Browns because this is what Baker was
brought to Cleveland. And it's also big and it's not
as it's not as many examples as saying Odell Beckham,
who has shown you that he can be frazzled and
(51:40):
he can be rattled by an opposing player talking trash
or things not going his way, because we've seen it
so many times. But we do have a little bit
of evidence of Baker Mayfield melting down when somebody gets
on his nerves a little bit in a game. You
saw it against Kansas. You don't think the Steelers are
gonna try and get in his head at all, realizing
(52:01):
they could potentially be playing this guy twice a year
for the next decade in that same division. So there's
a lot. I think there's a couple of things that
you needed from Baker Mayfield. Okay, he's already passed the
first test. Can he play at the NFL level? I
believe that he can. I think he's looked good enough
in certain situations that there's that there's hope, they're so
hope that he can play, and that he is the
(52:23):
guy that's already been crossed off. You've checked that off
the list. I think that he's provided that. Next you've
got to see whether or not he's gonna get rattled.
And when things start to get a little dicey later
in the year weatherwise, and when teams have gotten more
to play for, like the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend, that's
the second one. And then also, look like you said,
he's a smaller guy, can he throw in those kind
(52:45):
of weather conditions? Can he perform when in the outdoors
like that in places where he hasn't really had to
do that in the Big twelve? Weather gets a little
dicey in the Big twelve later in the year. But
but look, the season is over and what November, late November,
early December, I mean, what are we talking about? So
I just think that, yeah, it's it's a big game
for Baker Mayfield. Um, I think that they found their guy.
(53:07):
But don't be surprised. There's a reason Ben Roethlisberger has
the numbers that he has at home because he's figured
out how to play in a place that's difficult to
play in a place where he can put up those numbers,
where the field conditions are never ideal because they play
fifty high school games every weekend. There why I have
no idea. It's Pittsburgh. You can't find another stadium to use.
(53:27):
Um se Yeah, I can't wait to see how he's
going to perform. The weather this week in the NFL
really shouldn't affect any of the sites, but it is
going to be cooler, and you're gonna have tempts in
the mid forties. There could be a chance of rain
somewhere in the Pittsburgh area. I guess over the next
forty eight hours or so. Maybe could cause the slippery conditions.
But the fact is is it's fall football now, and
then this is this is the time. This is the true,
(53:49):
in my mind, first opportunity for Baker Mayfield to live
up to that first overall pick. Are you starting to
get I was talking about this last weekend. Are you
starting to get the fall fields like the October fields.
He's seen the leaves start to change a little. I know,
it's like ninety eight degrees out here in l A
for some reason. Yeah, I've had it for a couple
of weeks now, and be honest, yeah, there actually pictures
of snow back home in the Midwest where I'm from
last week. Some flurry's nothing that's stuck. But the point
(54:12):
is is, yeah falls here Illinois, Wisconsin looked like a
snow globe blust or a Dolphins offensive line coaches desk
um if you will, if you're into the cocaine and
all that other stuff, Uh yeah, I'm starting to get
the October field. Danyeah football is here, baby, Yeah, it's
it's it's that time of year and now you've got
bigger games. Heck, October, end of October means Georgia, Florida
(54:33):
and college football. All of that here for sure. Dan
Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug gott leap here on
Fox Sports Radio. If you want to get Dan on
Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox, you can get me
at the Jonas Knocks. Coming up next though, there is
a big rumor out there in the world of sports
involving a star player. We're gonna tell you why it's
(54:53):
not going to happen. That's next year on Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Dot
Leap Show weekdays a noon eastern three pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app I'm
Dan Buyer, That's shown US Knocks. John Ramos is here
as well as we are in for Doug Today and
Today's Dug Gottlieb Show comes. Do you thinks to true car?
Car shopping can be confusing with terms like dealer, price, list, price,
(55:16):
and invoice. True car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want, so you can recognize a
good price when you're ready to buy a new or
use cars a true car to enjoy a more confident
car buying experience. Tonight in the NBA, Bucks and Timberwolves
are gonna go at it and a late ad a
late add to the Timberwolves injury report. Okay, anybody want
(55:36):
to take a guess who may not be playing tonight
for the Minnesota Timberwolf. John, you want to chime in
if I get it right? Will that kill the bit?
Or is there a bit? No? You can you can
get Jimmy Butler. Oh wait, do you want to ask Ryan?
Do you want to confirm with Ryan? Okay, we're doing
a real radio show here. If there was like some
(55:57):
sort of end. So I don't want to give the
correct Jimmy Butler, that is correct. Who are you going
to say? Who? Richardson also out tonight the Timberholve swingman
is ill, so there he has an illness, may not play,
(56:19):
but a late add to the injury report. I don't
want to read anything into this and I'm not that's
I don't bring it up to say that Timberwolves are
holding him out because of a trade may get done
with Jimmy Butler. But if that's the case, Jonas, I
hope for Minnesota's case that they don't accept the deal
reported yesterday from the Houston Rockets for for four first
(56:43):
round picks. Now that's not enough to throw up. If
it was four second round picks, I would probably I
would probably throw up. That would be I'd bar for sure.
I feel sick. But for four first round picks on
the service, Jonas, it's a lot better then maybe an alternative.
But when you hear the news yesterday that the Rockets
(57:05):
are willing to give up four first round picks for
Jimmy Butler, what was your initial thought? Um, it didn't
look well. First of all, it's an MBA it's a
Woes bond bomb, so you immediately take it serious because
he's not out there BS and anybody. But it just
feels like Darryl Moray is trying so hard. I mean,
(57:25):
he's trying to figure out any way he can as
to how they're going to be able to overtake the
Golden State Warriors. And you can argue that, well, you know,
if Chris Paul hadn't have gotten hurt, they would have
won that series a year ago. Okay, but that's the problem.
Chris Paul always gets hurt. So if you're already scrambling,
it's it's basically this is their last ditch effort to
(57:46):
try and to try and win a title, because I
can't imagine any other move out there that would even
be conceivable at this point that you would give up
four first round draft picks for unless it's somebody like
Anthony Davis or something like that. And I think that
it's actually the max, right, that's the most amount that
you can give us, and you also have to it's
got to be every other year. You can't give up
(58:07):
consecutive first round picks and back to back years, so
it would be I would take that deal if I
was Minnesota. Really yes, okay, okay, just because I'm curious
to hear why, Because I think the more you look
at the deal, the more that it's not what it
(58:28):
appears to be. Well, I would take it for a
couple of reasons. One, toothpaste is already out of the tube.
He's done. He doesn't want to be there. He got
booed on opening night. Um, he do. They have no interest.
He has no interest in continuing his career in Minnesota.
And the only reason I think he's still there and
still at least cooperating this early in the season is
(58:49):
because him and Tom Thibodeau have a previous relationship. But also,
I would bank on Houston taking a step back as
these as Chris Paul and others start to age there. Um,
and I would just bank on them being a worst
team moving forward because they're going all in. And if
Jimmy Butler doesn't re sign in Houston, I mean he
couldn't make it work with Dwayne Wade and Ray Jean Rondo.
(59:12):
Chris Paul's just as demanding, James Harden is just as
ball dominant. I would see them taking a step back
and regressing and if I were in Minnesota, I'd like
to be around when that happens with those drafts. This
is where I don't like it. From Minnesota's sake is
right now. And whether you have questions about Karl Anthony Towns,
you have questions about Andrew Wiggins, that is still your core.
(59:32):
You're locked into those guys. Those guys have signed long
term deals to stay in Minnesota. And I know earlier
this week the Tebow's broadcasts, he's been saying, oh, it
sounds like Karl Anthonier. Looks like Karl Anthony Towns is
quitting in this game. Not a good sign for the
guy that she gave over a hundred million dollars to
to stick around in the Twin Cities. But the point
is this is Jonas, I look at those first round
(59:52):
picks as being somewhere in that range. We're all in
the NBA, and we put our intern dom to work today.
We said, look back at the last seven years and
the thirty range of first rund picks, tell me who
the best players were that were taken in those spots.
(01:00:13):
So the last seven years you had Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart,
Dojont Murray, Larry Nance Jr. Clint Capella, Rudy Gobert, and
Jimmy Butler. Those were the best players that you got
over the last seven years in that twenty five to
thirty range, and I would think at least for two
of the years nine, the Rockets would be in that spot,
(01:00:35):
likely because James Harden is still there. I know that
there are other pieces around, but you still have one
of the premier guys in the NBA on that roster.
Plus they wanted to give you Brandon Knight, who is
injured and making a lot of money. Uh. Marquis Chris
was a guy that was involved who was a topic
years ago, but as it lived up to the potential,
I just don't see the huge payoff when you have
(01:00:57):
this Minnesota core that probably could win now that you
want to put pieces around and you have no idea
to guess what's gonna happen seven years ahead for your
own team, let alone someone else. To me, it sounds
great on the surface, but in reality, rather just training
to Miami for Josh Richardson or Josh Richardson and someone
else and added player of that caliber to your team
(01:01:20):
than anything else, So you would rather you you want
a player in return. I just think that there's so
much unknown there. There are so many unknowns with those
first rounders, and we don't know the protections around them.
But to to try to project seven years out for
when you have a core that is there right now
that you need to feed, that you need to put around,
(01:01:42):
to give Jimmy Butler away for nothing when you have
those two star players and hope that seven years down
the line, the Rockets think. I think it's just too
much of a risk. Where you could get you could
get something to help that team. Now, I would not
in the terms of playing it safe. I just don't
think that the deal is as appealing like it looks great.
It's like, oh, let's go out to steak. Where are
(01:02:02):
we going, Denny's alright, Denny's no good, god man like
like piles of beef jerky the grill. That's what I
That's how I feel about this deal is like the
four first rounders, like, oh, my goodness, Houston is all in.
It also shows that knee jerk reaction to the Houston
(01:02:23):
and how they feel about their team, you know, a
week and a half into the to the regular season.
I just think for Minnesota there's too many, too many
danger zones with what they've got. I also wondered this,
I wonder if Darryl Morey was concerned about the reaction
of his guys during that fight against the Lakers, because
nobody stepped in to do a damn thing. And we're
talking Brandon Ingram and Ray Jean Rondo, who's combined weight
(01:02:45):
is eighty four pounds, and nobody stepped in to do
a damn thing in that fight except for the Lakers.
And I wonder if Darryl Morrey saw that and said,
we gotta get somebody in here that's gonna change the
attitude in the locker room. I wonder if that was
that was part of the thinking. I would also look
at it like this. If I'm Minnesota, if you've gauged
everybody's interest around the league, and that is the best
(01:03:08):
deal that you can get right now, and it's that
many first round picks, I would pull the trigger on it.
Because you're also talking about your number one and Houston's
number one. So if Houston, to your point, is picking
in between twenty five and thirty, where would you guess
at Minnesota would be picking? Um, Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Maybe borderline lottery team based on So if that's the case,
(01:03:30):
could you package anything together to move further up in
the draft if you really like somebody, and I just
think it gives you more assets to try and get
that done. Because he's not going to stick around there,
he doesn't want to be there. They can try and
play nice, and Andrew Wiggins can come out and say
we've got no beef. Okay, you and your brother were
not only trying to to set up a fight with
Jimmy Butler, You're also trying to set up a fight
(01:03:52):
with um Steven Jackson on Instagram. So let's not pretend like,
oh all is good here. Come on, man. There seems
to be a report that the Rockets have a reluctance
to give up p J. Tucker in the deal, and
that goes to fold for me, as Okay, Houston wants
to keep there because they keep him around because they
feel he's a part of their team. But it also
shows me that Minnesota wants him, which shows me that
(01:04:13):
they want to keep that. They want to keep that
core where you've got Wiggins and Towns and the veteran
point guard Antigue that they feel that they can win
now and if if that's not going to be the deal,
then maybe it's best. Even though he's going to leave
at the end of the year, you know he's not
going to be back next year, and you want to
get something. Minnesota sits there in the spot of we
at least need to do something for us right now,
(01:04:34):
and if it's not gonna be Jimmy Butler, maybe we
can get a little something from the for the present
and for the future. That's the reason why I would
do it, because this one is so future based and
you wouldn't be there to give what your core needs
right now. Maybe you could take those picks and swing
them in other deals if you wanted to put pieces
around Karl, Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. I just don't
(01:04:55):
think that's where Thibodeau and the Timberwolves are right now.
I think they I think they feel that they can
be competitive this year, make the playoffs at least better
than an eight seed, and so that's why they want
to get something for Butler. Do you think Tom Thibodeaux
has ever not lost his voice during a game. I'm
thinking about that. I don't know. He seems like a
guy who always has throat lozenges and a sweat towel
(01:05:16):
unders His voice record is zero wins. Is incredible, man?
All right, Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks him for Doug got
leep here on Fox Sports Radio. Get Dan on Twitter
at Dan Buyer on Fox. We are going to play
something that we have never done on this show. All right. Now,
we've done this game before, but we've never done it
like this. So that is coming up next. You can
(01:05:38):
be a part of history next year on Fox Sports Radio.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports.
Who the hell? Where we where did Ralph goes? Anybody?
Here's a Hey, it's Dan Buyer. I got this guys.
Here's a game through the World Series tonight. I don't
know if you know this. Dodgers and Red Sox. Johnny
with his face painted blue today coming to work hoping
(01:05:59):
the Dodgers get off the schneide. There down to all
in the best of seven series. They put Walker Bueller
on the hill. Rick Porcello throws for Boston. Coverage starts
at seven thirty Eastern time on Fox of Game three
of the World Series. First pitch just after eight o'clock
Eastern Another are reports the Red Sox are not gonna
have Mookie Bets at second base. J D. Martinez dealing
(01:06:19):
with a sore ankle. No word if he's going to
be in the lineup tonight, Remember no d H so
we're waiting to hear if Jdi Martinez's gonna be in
the lineup tonight for the Red Sox, who are up
to all on the Dodgers with Game three of the
Ball Classic tonight. Texans got the win last set against
the Dolphins, but today we found out they lost wide
receiver will will Fuller for the year, done with a
torn a c L suffered in that win against Miami.
(01:06:40):
The Jaguars no surprise announcing that running back Lendon four
Nett will not play against the Eagles on Sunday in London.
Wide receiver Dante Moncrieffe may play in the game, though
mine Creef missed the team flight to London had to
fly commercially for this Sunday's game against Philadelphia. Fucking Years
have listed defensive lineman Geral McCoy and Vitty Curie is
being out for their game against Incinnetti. No Tory Smith
(01:07:01):
for the Panthers and their showdown against the Ravens he
is going to sit out with a bad knee. And
as we touched on a little while ago, Jimmy Butler
added to the injury report for the Timberwolves tonight, questionable
to play against the Bucks because of an illness. So
something to look at. Oh, Royce Freeman of the Broncos
not going to play against the Chiefs. That wasn't unexpected,
(01:07:23):
but he officially is going to sit out and not
play week Gates. Thanks Dan, that was good stuff. Jonah
Sucks and Dan Buyer here on Fox Sports Radio in
for Doug Gottlieb here on fs are coming up in
about fifteen minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio,
you're going to hear why one NFL franchise who was
(01:07:43):
thought to be a Super Bowl contender before the season
is done moving forward, So we'll have that four year
fifteen minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio. But
Dan Buyer, you do something really really well, Okay, you
I think your dream job would be a game show host.
I love game shows. You love game shows, A lot
of different types of game shows and daytime television and
(01:08:05):
game shows. You are a big fan of and nobody
puts together game show related ideas anywhere in sports radio,
like Dan Buyer and you have done it again. Well, yeah,
it's a bit of a spinoff of one of our
favorite shows. That's the only kid see right now in reruns.
That show is called Deal Okay, a little different twist.
(01:08:29):
We don't have twenty six models, we don't have cases
with a lot of money. But what we do have
is one ticket, John, Okay, one ticket to the nine
Ers Cardinals game in Arizona. Is that the non HD
game's a Fox game? We should be watching. John. The
(01:08:53):
key is here not wanting to go to the game,
which I'm pretty sure no one would want to go to.
But it's deciphering the value of the ticket. At twenty
four dollars, your ticket will take you to the forty
Niners and Cardinals. You have got to decipher if you
would rather have the tickets or something else of a
(01:09:14):
different value. And it's your goal to come out with
the highest valued item possible. So, for example, John, I
would say, John, you've got your ticket to the Cardinals
Niners game? Or do you like this pen in my
hand with an unknown value? And if you said I'll
take the pen, I would say, well, this pen cost
me three dollars, and then you would have a three
(01:09:36):
dollar value, which would have been a bad deal. Simple enough.
You ready to go? H Dan, I'm always ready, all right,
Jonas and I will be giving you different options. But
remember your ticket to forty Niners and Cardinals. These twenty
four dollars. Are these items more or less? It's basically
what we're going to try to figure. So I'm supposed
(01:09:56):
to tell you if it's more or less. I want
to pick the one that's more than we're not on
the air. You want to take the one that is more? Yes, yes, here,
So you wouldn't have wanted to take this. You would
have been held on to the to the ticket your
final answer. Okay. By the way, this segment was originally
planned for October thirty second, and it just like I
(01:10:19):
got bumped up, James. We have to also announce the
rules just because of legal reasons, you know. Yeah, for John,
we used the whole entire music that all right? You
ready to go? Okay? John, You've got that ticket in
your hand. It's worth two dollars, John, would you like
to trade that ticket for in a Marie Cooper raiders
Jersey and a Marie Cooper Raiders Jersey that you can
(01:10:43):
get online. Do we have a deal or no deal?
I'm gonna take a deal on that one. Well, even
at the discounted price, you could get into Marie Cooper
Raiders Jersey for sixty dollars right now, Yes, that is
quite a deal. John Ramo, all right, great job, all right? John?
(01:11:06):
You ready? Yes, all right? You can either have the
ticket to forty Niners Cardinals or you can have a
Britta water filter picture deals. No deal. I'm gonna take
(01:11:28):
a deal on that. Oh you gonna take the water yeah, John,
get thirsty for Britta water filter picture. I don't know.
I'm on a clothes kick here, John, would you like
(01:11:49):
to keep that Niners Cardinals ticket or traded in for
an under armor Atlanta Braves and at least Champions t
shirts alert red you can get at Fanatic stuck and
it is it is red. It is red, And no
it's not one of your favorite colors. But would you
rather keep the ticket or would you rather have this
(01:12:13):
T shirt? It's a naturally East Champions the only thing
they've won this last time. John says, they let their
cat out of the front yards. Now deal, I must say,
no deal? On that one. Keeping the ticket too bad?
This t shirts under arm. John, I didn't say MLB authentics. Yeah,
(01:12:41):
come on, John, all right, Johnny you ready? Yes, John,
you can either have the twenty four dollar ticket to
Niners Cardinals or you can have a bottle of Connor
McGregor's proper twelve whiskey. I'm gonna go hold on a minute,
(01:13:01):
deal a minute. I'm gonna take a deal on that one.
You want the you want the whiskey, John, Yeah, sober up,
my friend. The whiskey is only nineteen. I know, but
look listen, look, I'm going by total wines prices. All right,
it's ace laughing. We need to uh, we need to
(01:13:28):
imagine that today isn't a Friday. It's a boneless special
day at Wingstoff. Would you like a fifteen piece boneless
chicken plus a large fry, or or a ticket to
Niners Cardinals that's worth twenty four bucks? Any deals you'd
(01:13:52):
like or no deal. I'm gonna take the ticket on
that one. It's a good move because not a bonus special,
you can get out of there for like fourteen That's
what I thought. All right, It's stop. Johnny's a deal maker. John,
I got one more for you here, okay, right, here
we go. First of all, can I shout out to
(01:14:13):
my wife Suzanne? Yes? No, no, John, No, you can't.
Somebody dump that. Let's go to h Ryan Music for
a final answer. Um, all right, no, sorry John? Sorry,
(01:14:34):
all right, John. Now here we go. You can either
have the four dollar ticket to Niners Cardinals so that
you don't have to watch it and standard death. Or
you can have a three pack of Calvin Klein b
Neck shirts. Deal or no deal, John, Deal or no deal.
(01:15:02):
I'm gonna take the shirts. Sorry, John. They should be
an el neck for the loss. They could just final one, John, Yeah,
I'm sorry, there's one more. I just added this one,
(01:15:23):
this just in as if, as if the bid hasn't
bombed enough already, let's throw a dynamite dance stick on this.
I'm about a carton of Siggs. Oh that's okay? What what? What?
What brand? Were we talking here? Marbo? How about that
Marlborough reads carton of Siggs or a ticket to Niners
(01:15:46):
card deal? We're no deal. A carton is like twelve
packs in there? I think ten? Ten? Okay? Wow? One cigarettes?
Like seven plays? Manny asked big Mike. Oh deal, Um, oh,
(01:16:07):
I'm gonna take the ticket to the to the Tornado's games. Sure,
why not? Because the Cardines sinks is like eighty bucks, John,
John literally said under his breath, like a pack is
like seven bucks. Now, So if you had ten of
those in a box, you're doing John. If you limited
(01:16:27):
the amount, if you bought all ten, you'd get them like,
all right, John, last one, This is all right, last one,
all right, Johnny. Ticket to Niners, Cardinals or a Rolls Royce.
What do they entire price? John? Yeah, By the way, man,
(01:16:57):
there's Cardinals right now in the secondary market, not even
the cheapest game in the NFL. Buccaneers Bengals you can
get in for twenty two bucks. And those are two
teams that all the may make the playoffs. The Sam
White Bowl, oh Man box Bengal, very good, very good. Also,
that would be on my never will be a Super
Bowl listed. You'll never see a live from Super Bowl
(01:17:19):
sixty five. It's the Buccaneers and Bengals here on five.
Better chance, never be said ever, better chance of the
Patriots playing in the l A. Sparks in a Super Bowl?
That all right, Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks him for Doug
got leep here on Fox Sports Radio. If you would
like to ask John why it is that he thinks
the carton of cigarettes is cheaper than four dollars, you
(01:17:40):
can get him on Twitter at j s Romo zero six.
Coming up next though, there is and a franchise that
was considered a Super Bowl contender contender before the season.
They are a complete disaster and we'll tell you why
here on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Doug dot Leap Show week days at
noon Eastern three pm Pacific. Dan Buyer, He's Jonas Knocks.
(01:18:01):
That's John Ramos. We are in for Doug today. Today's
show is brought to you by True Car. Car Shoppy
can't be confusing with terms like dealer price, list, price,
and invoice. True car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want, so you can recognize a
good price when you're ready to buy a new or
use cars a True Car to enjoy a more confident
car buying experience. Just because Doug isn't here doesn't mean
(01:18:22):
we won't hear something interesting from Fox Sports Radio or
Fox Sports One. As it's the time of that day.
For Nick writes on First Things First on Fox Sports.
One was with Chris Carter and they were talking about
the showdown with the Rams and Packers this Sunday from
(01:18:42):
l A. Jonas And the spread on this game, as
you very well know, is is you cover those things
with r J. Bell at six o'clock Eastern time each week.
Pretty big, pretty big screech biggest of Aaron rodgers career
nine and a half points. Is that where we're at
right now, is the Rams our favorites? Well one. Nick
Wright weight in on that point spread earlier today on
(01:19:02):
First Things First. It is an abject organizational failure that
the Green Bay Packers with the healthy Aaron Rodgers would
ever be essentially double digit underdogs against anyone other than
the NFC Pro Bowl team, Like, are you kidding me?
You're not ravaged by injuries. This is your team. Basically,
the team you wanted to go into the season with
(01:19:23):
is the team you have right now in Green Bay.
And you are at the midway point of your season,
coming off of buy in a critical game, and the
smart guys in the desert say, oh, this team's nine
and a half points better than you. Are you kidding me?
There's a reason this is the biggest underdog Aaron Rodgers
has ever been. Now, I'm just gonna say this, If
(01:19:43):
it's an organizational failure, Jonas, who then is that on
the shoulders of I would say it's probably on the
general manager? Right well, Ted Thompson is gone, Brian Goodkin's
hasn't been on the job for more than a year,
so he's the one that's taken over this team. So
(01:20:05):
to say that it's an organizational failure maybe the case,
but that's on Ted Thompson's shoulders, who's no longer with
the organization for surrounding Aaron Rodgers. So well, I just
it's it's so far out there. Yeah, we know that
the Packers haven't done a great job in providing whether
it be a defense, whether it be providing a running game.
(01:20:28):
But there have been playmakers. You've got Davante Adams developed,
Jordy Nelson has been there for years. Randall Cobs say
what you will? You brought in Jimmy Graham. It's the
point of being is you can point figures. The last
finger that should be pointed to is that the current GM,
who hasn't even been there twelve months. Yeah, at least
give the guys some time to figure this out. His
one big move was signing Rogers to the extension. But
I also, I'll take it a step further. I can't.
(01:20:52):
Aaron Rodgers has been not all year right, Ever since
Week one when he hurt his knee, he's been he's
been hobbling around in games and you've seen it's it's
held him back and he's had to wear a brace
at times, and he's not looked good. Not only are
they a nine and a half point favorite, but they're
a nine and a half point favorite with Aaron Rodgers
the healthiest he's been all year because they're coming off
(01:21:12):
their bye week, Like what do we like? I'm trying
to figure out if and you almost have to bet
the Packers. You almost have to bet the Packers just
because you're never gonna get a deal like that anywhere else. Yeah. Absolutely,
And this is a team that that has not run
the ball with with great consistency. You have three running backs,
one that seems to be really good and Aaron Jones
(01:21:33):
that just doesn't get carries. But there are other factors
in all of this, And maybe Nick Wright was saying
that this is on Mike McCarthy's shoulder. I I truly
do this. This is Mike McCarthy's last year in Green Bay.
This is with for for all of the And this
has gone on a while in the state of Wisconsin
about Packer fans not being happy. But Jonas, when you
(01:21:54):
see what Sean McVeigh has done on another sideline, and
you see the young coordinator Craze in the national sale, yes,
absolutely it looks. It looks like an outdated offense relying
on one player to make great plays. And when you
act and when you go back and look at just
their wins so far this year. The Bears gave them
(01:22:15):
that game. There was another game where they were they
were the Niners. The Niners should have probably won that game.
That was all in Aaron Rodgers late in the game,
just making plays um against the defense who was exhausted
in Week one and against the forty Niners who are
ravaged by injuries all over the place. I I agree
they look outdated. And if we look around the league,
(01:22:36):
it's got to bother Rogers. The innovation that some other
teams are using and the lack of innovation in Green Bay. Yeah,
not on good, not on Rogers on Mike McCarthy shoulders
who cleared out cleaned house because that's what you do
when you when your job is online, get rid of
everybody else. Yeah, I think you're gonna see a fresh
start in Green Bay. Whether it starts in week eight
(01:22:58):
is another issue. Huge week get in college football. We'll
talk about it next year on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Rail In This Man Tree Star, I had to jump studios,
but I couldn't run because I didn't want to come
on the air here and be out of breath like
I've I've done that where I've run down the hallway
and they'll be like, uh so out of shape. So
(01:23:43):
since we're not on the air, I'm okay to say
this because it would look unprofessional if I if I
said this at any other time. Um, I once got
trapped in the elevator in between segments. I'm not kidding me.
I'm not getting Yeah, it was that we getting overnights. Man, Look,
some weird things happen on weekend overnights. The standing up,
how did you? How did you get out of the elevator? Finally,
(01:24:04):
just finally, I am or No. What happened was the
elevator wouldn't open and I had to go four floors down,
and for whatever reason, the guy who was on the
elevator below, who was using the elevator, kept canceling out
my order. Think like, hey, buddy, I gotta go on
the air. So I had to run down flights of stairs.
I ended up on Suppulvada because I took the wrong
(01:24:26):
flight of stairs down. By the time I got back
into the studio, I was completely winded and out of breath,
and I think I b s the the entry and
I just said, see, this is what it would sound
like if somebody wasn't prepared for So I was a
tutorial for you amateur broadcasters out. So you're literally just
hitting in the lights, going off like kept canceling it.
(01:24:46):
Cancel no deal, no deal, is what that guy was saying.
Glad to have you with us. Coming up, we'll be
talking to one of the m v P candidates for
the National League. A guy that was oh so close
to making it to the world sear that comes up
at the bottom of the hour. Also gonna be talking
some college football real soon with one of the best
in the business is Joel clad expected to join us.
(01:25:08):
It is an intriguing weekend. Ohio states off. There's no
Alabama playing this weekend in college football, but this allows
jonas Michigan is off as well. Wolverines aren't playing this weekend.
This allows some of those teams that maybe want to
make a statement to get into that top four, to
get into the conversation, to make their last effort to
(01:25:29):
make a point before the college Football Playoff rankings actually
come out next week. Yeah. Now, and this is when
things get really look you, let me just give the
College Football Playoff Committee a little bit of credit here. Um,
they saved Wednesday sports talk radio during football season because
Wednesdays usually when you're looking around, going anybody get a
d U I last night we can talk about there's
(01:25:50):
not a whole lot happening here. And then the College
Football Playoff Committee came out with this television show, and
I think it has completely changed the game, and I
think it's been a fantastic idea of my college football
first rankings will come out coming up on Tuesday. Of course,
we'll get to the weekend at hand. First in college football,
joining us now, Fox college football analyst Klatt joins us
here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Joel, how you doing today? Good?
(01:26:14):
So what's going on? But we are we're getting ready
for for this weekend where you've got a top ten
match up in Jacksonville. You've got a Notre Dame team
that's taking on a Navy squad in San Diego. I
want to start there with Notre Dame because I saw
a tweet that you sent out in a piece that
you did for Fox Sports. Why is Brian Kelly of
Notre Dame your coach of the year so far in
college football? Yeah? I again, mid season coach of the year,
(01:26:36):
and there's a lot of guys that are deserving, but
Bryan has done a remarkable job. First of all, he
lost two offensive linemen in the first round of the
NFL Draft last year, Glenn Nelson and Mike mcglenchey. Uh.
He loses a running back, he makes a switch cordback position,
and his best offensive lineman this year has gone down
and yet they're still undefeated and in the driver's seat
to make a college football playoff. First, they're undefeated for
(01:26:59):
the first time since two thousand and twelve, which is
the last time they went to the BCS National Championship.
So for all of those reasons, I think Brian's just
done a remarkable job. It takes a lot of guts
as an undefeated team to replace a quarterback in particular
and incumbent, and and he did that. And now with
Ian Book at quarterback, they're averaging over thirty eight and
a half points per game, uh since he's been a
(01:27:20):
starting quarterback. So it's really all of those reasons. The
guy has has made some moves, they've been gutsy, and
they've worked uh. And that's namely why I put him
at the top of that list. Joe Klatten joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio, Dan Buyer Jonas knocks in
for Doug Gottlieb. Joel honorable mention that you handed out
was at oars Ron And I found myself guilty of
this as well too, where it was hard for me
(01:27:41):
to take at oars Heron seriously. And I almost feel
like that's a national narrative on oors Ron. What is
he done there at l s U and how much
has he impacted that program when a lot of people
wouldn't have considered him to be a legit, big time
head coach before this season. Well, he's continued the narrative
that they're going to play great defense and they're gonna
(01:28:01):
win with a conservative model on offense. And I think,
you know, he got an honorable mention because quite frankly,
they've just achieved more than everybody else in the country,
at least outside of the undefeated teams. Uh And and
quite frankly, the only reason I gave the nod to
Brian Kelly is because they're undefeated and ls U has
the one loss. UM. But ed oh Is is a
guy that brings in a transfer quarterback and yet he
(01:28:24):
still has his team playing great football. I've got three
wins over teams that were in the top ten at
the time of the game. That's more than anybody else
in the country. Um, and they did something that I
don't think anybody gave them a chance to do, which
is knock off Georgia, even if that game was at home.
So granted, I still feel like the other shoe will
drop and they're a bit of a Cinderella. I feel
(01:28:45):
like this is the highest they're gonna be in, particularly
because they're gonna have to face an Alabama team which
they're ill equipped to deal with. Um Alabama, you're gonna
have to score for your forty five points in order
to keep up with him in that offense with two
attend to buy law and l s U is not
gonna be able to do that. Now. With Joe Burrow
at quarterback, he's been okay and and they've done a
nice job and not turning the ball over outside of
(01:29:06):
their one loss. Ordy threw what two interceptions against Florida,
But you know those are the reasons. And listen, Ed
has done a remarkable job, there's no doubt. But it
hasn't been any magical thing he's done as much as
he's just kept it on the rails and he has
continued the tradition of what the l s U is
all about. Conservative offense, played great defense. Joel Client joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Dots. I'm
(01:29:27):
Dan Buyer. Were in for Doug Gottlieb on the Doug
Gottlieb Show. I think we all expect even if Alabama
would lose this weekend to l s U. From what
we saw last year and how things played out, I
don't think that there's any way that Alabama would be
left out of the four team playoff. I mean, we're
considering them as one of the greatest teams of all time.
Could Clemson get in with a loss? Do you think
(01:29:47):
we'll see? I think that that's that the situation remains
to be seen. I actually think that as this year
for Alabama my home that more than last year. Really
is that the reason? Well, because last year, remember they
were getting compared against a two loss Ohio State team,
so it wasn't necessarily apples to apples, and and the
committee ultimately said that the second loss for Ohio State
(01:30:08):
is what was deemed for them to be, you know,
not in the in the same neighborhood as Alabama. UM So,
if Alabama is going to be compared to a one
loss conference champion, I think that the one loss conference
champion would go in this case, let's say it's Oklahoma
or Michigan. If Alabama were to be a non division
(01:30:28):
champ and have a loss and not have an SEC
championship in the trophy, case, I think that they would
get left at home for another one loss conference champ
So those distinguished you know, you have to make that
distinguished distinguishability between the two, I guess is the way
to put it. Um. But yeah, that I mean for me,
(01:30:49):
no one is guaranteed even with a loss, because then
it depends on what everyone else is doing. Alabama is
in if they went out, there's no doubt they're gonna
be favored the rest of their game. But the narrative that, oh,
they could probably lose this game and they'll be fine,
I think it's just false because then their fate is
rest in the hands of of several of their teams,
and in particular, you know, teams like Oklahoma, Texas maybe
(01:31:12):
even in that situation, UM Georgia in that situation, and
and more namely UM Michigan. Well, to take it one
step further, we heard Mike Leach's comments. Washington State's good.
He's saying, you know, open it up to the teams
in this whole conversation. But Mike's crazy. He's full of it.
That's that's totally stupid. But I'm sorry, but it is.
(01:31:33):
Mike Leach is gonna say things that benefit like Leech.
That's the problem with asking these coaches. It's such a
lazy question to ask college coaches what they would do
with the playoff. Every single one of them is going
to say expanded, Why because then they have access to it.
You know, I think that we are at a point
where this sport is going to get watered down if
(01:31:55):
all these people get their way. Growing the playoff is
not the answer, not the answer at all. All we
have to do is require that participants in the playoff
when their conference championship. Then we basically have pseudo quarterfinal
games in the conference championship games as they're played right now,
and we place more importance on things like last year's
Iron Bowl, which would have been a play out game
for Alabama and they would have never had the ability
(01:32:17):
to come back in based on some invitation from a
thirteen person committee. To me, that's the fix. Growing it
is not the fix. All you're gonna do is water
down the regular season. Guess what doesn't matter at all?
College basketball is a regular season. We can say it's great, Yeah,
March madness is what matters for college basketball. Why in
the world would we do that to football? Well, that's
the college basketball coaches have been wanting to expand it
(01:32:39):
for years, you know, and to do those sort of things,
college football should taken note that. Yeah, you're right, it
is what it is. It's it's it's best where it's
at the question that I have and maybe it's an option.
See I was gonna say, is it option a that
a great maybe greatest of all time team Alabama gets
left out? Or is it another UCF scenario? What is
(01:32:59):
the red that we could see an expansion from this?
Where would that come from? Yeah? I think that the
expansion would come if you see F goes undefeated and
if they were left out, I think that they would
start some sort of legislation that would wind up the
four Congress candidly, and that's what the conference commissioners, namely
the Power five Conference commissioners, desperately want to avoid. I
(01:33:20):
think that's the only way that it grows. And at
that point, it would probably have the impetus to grow,
but it would have the impetus via lawmakers rather than
it would just the impetus from within the sport saying
that that's what we should do. I think most of
the decision makers in the sport understand that what makes
this sport so great and so interesting, and so marketable
and so valuable is the fact that it's important for
(01:33:42):
three months, not three weeks. That's an important distinguishing, distinguishing
fact between this sport and others. So maintaining the importance
of the regular season, I think is always going to
be of the utmost of importance. And that's why candidly
I'm really hoping that CF loses. There's no reason. First
of all, there's no point to invite UCF into the
(01:34:04):
college football playoffs anyway. There right now on the Saturn
ratings lay team of the country, and I play the
hundred and twenty seven Frank schedule in the country. The
twenty ninth rated team is North Dkota State from the FCS,
who has the hundred ranks schedule their seven and o
shauld we invite them, obviously not uh. UCF does not
play the requisite schedule in particular in their league to
(01:34:25):
to merit the inclusion into the four best teams. And
the answer is not, well, let them play for it
with an eight team deal, because quite frankly, you're just
penalizing all the Power five programs that would do the
exact same thing with that schedule by not including them
like Penn State, for example, Penn State would be undefeated
with uc UCF schedule. So why in the world would
we reward you see us and not Penn State. Give
(01:34:47):
me a break. Joe Klatt, lead analyst for college football
and Fox, joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, Joel,
last one for me. We saw Ohio State a year
ago get blown out on the road at Iowa. Then
we see him at a similar point to see and
get blown out on the road at Perdue. Is this
a more problematic loss this year than it was a
year ago for Ohio State? I think this year is
(01:35:09):
certainly more problematic, only because last year it wasn't the
same things that were coming up to fight them in
terms of their weaknesses. This year, you're having the same
things that they need to work on week in and
week out that continued to be the weakest part of
their teams, namely, they don't convert once they're in the
red zone on the offensive side, but can't run the football.
In fact, in the last four names that haven't averaged
(01:35:30):
over three and a half yards per day, and they're
given up far too many big plays in fact that
that defense has given up more plays of thirty or
more yards than anybody else in the country save for
Kent State and Yukon. You can't be in the same
categories Kent State and Yukon if you're the Ohio State.
It's a problem is because it was more a picture
(01:35:50):
of what has been going on the entire of the season.
They haven't been able to get it fixed. We'll see
if they can get a fixed in this by game,
but yeah, it's it's certainly caused for concern. And one
of the big reason is why I'm leaning more towards
Michigan after seeing them and covering them in a couple
of games, I'm leaning more towards the Wolverines. Is the
team that I think is going to come out of
there at the Big Ten champ I can't wait for
(01:36:11):
that finale Michigan and High I've never I haven't looked
forward to a college football game as much, and I know, Joel,
You're gonna be on the call. I I haven't looked
forward to a college football game as much as that
one because I feel like that's Ohio State season and
they're gonna do whatever it takes to Ruin, Jim Harbo
stream no better start blocking, and standidly, they got to
get there first. You know, I think Ohio State they're
going to be vulnerable against Maryland. They'll be vulnerable against
(01:36:33):
Michigan State. That game is on the road, So you know,
I'm much more confident that Michigan can get to that
point with just a loss than I am right now
Ohio State. The Ohio State defense gets pointed out because
of the numbers at per New and you can look
at their offensive their running game is not the running
game of years past, and it's it's you can look
at the numbers, Joel, and you know what you've seen.
(01:36:53):
It's almost gotten worse throughout the season. And you've got
two really good tailbacks back there. They just haven't been
getting it done. And it's basically up front with that
offensive line. Yeah, that offensive line is not very good
and and standidly, they should be a lot better because
there's some experience up there, there's some size or some
strength that's been a strength of their team. It's not
just that Haskins is a thrower and not a runner
(01:37:14):
like Dap Barrett. I think that's the least of that.
Whereas The problem was with those five guys up front.
They can't move anybody. I mean, they can't move anybody.
Reminds me of Texas last year. You know, Texas couldn't
block anybody. Now all of a sudden, Texas is moving people.
What are they doing? They winning football games? You got
back in the Big twelve case states in Oklahoma. What
do we expect in Norman tomorrow afternoon. Probably a closer
(01:37:35):
game than you would expect, even though K State has
struggled for the most part of this season. The bottom
line is Oklahoma's defense is not a great defense. They
made it switch at the defensive coordinator position. They're playing
a little bit better, better for Ruff and McNeil, but
they struggle against quality running teams. Namely in that game
against Army, they could not get off the field. Well,
that's what they're gonna see. A heavy dose of Alex Barnes,
(01:37:57):
who's been on fire over six yards in his last
two games and eight touchdowns. Excuse me, seven touchdowns for
Alex Barnes. They're gonna get a heavy dose to him,
and if they can't stop him on first down, they're
gonna have a hard time getting off the field on
third down and we'll see how it goes from there.
The one thing that they've got as they up their sleeve,
that offense is unbelievable with Kyler Murray. So if they
(01:38:18):
continue to play well offensively, they're gonna beat a lot
of people just because the other people can't keep up.
And that might be how they have to win. Tomorrow
three thirty Eastern time, kick on Fox Wildcats and sooner
as Joel Klatt will be on the call. We appreciate it, Joel,
and enjoy Norman. We'll talk to you soon. Al Right, guys,
have a go on find Joel on Twitter obviously at

A lot of people looking at too that Rams Chiefs
game in Mexico City later on this season, possible super
Bowl preview. But Jonas, when you look at by the way,
it's it's good to see they put the best game
they could possibly make in Tijuana will be in Mexico City.
But to your point in a but the the point
(01:41:40):
of this topic of conversation is the game that we've
gotten London. While it may not be a super Bowl preview,
it could be a season ender for either the Eagles
or Jaguars, depending on the outcome of Sunday's matchup. Just
because it seems like they are two teams heading in
the same direction in one of the needs to make
(01:42:01):
that turn and turn things around if they want to
make it to the postseason, I I feel more confident. Look,
nobody's really running away with a division in in either case.
I mean, you can say Houston's won five games in
a row, but still it would not surprise me whatsoever.
Um if anybody you know made a run at Houston
in the a f C South, but I feel like
(01:42:21):
Philadelphia that there there's only gonna be one team that
comes out of that division. I'm having a hard time
buying Washington, and I feel like Philadelphia is still in
position to make a run. And Carson Wentz is is
I would think only going to get better as as
the season progresses, if he can stay healthy and if
he can continue to, you know, try and play smart
and not run with the football which got him hurt
(01:42:43):
last year, any opportunity he gets. So I feel like
Philadelphia is in a little bit better of a spot. Jacksonville, though,
is we're we're walking a very fine line between what
the Jaguars currently are and a total meltdown as an organization.
And because they appear already players fighting in the locker room.
After last week's game, Blake Bortles actually got benched, which
(01:43:07):
is like your your buddy telling you that he no, no, no,
this time I really did break up with her. I mean,
you've been threatening for two years. I just assumed that
was never gonna happen. Jacksonville feels like this is gonna
get ugly in a hurry. I I like how the
Jaguars and I and I can't blame them, but the
optics of let's put more pressure on Blake Bortles and
see if he responds like that. That's by him them
(01:43:29):
saying he's on a short leash. We're giving Cody Kessler
some first team reps. Granted, you gave Bordles some sort
of security with the contract that he got for this year,
but there are ways to get out of that. The
point being his do you expect Blake Bortles to raise
his game now that the pressure has been raised up
two notches? And I don't. I don't think that you
can count on that. Even those comments this week of saying,
(01:43:51):
like on the scapegoat, I'm always the scapegoat. There are
other issues in Jacksonville, but to to raise the stakes
on offense, I think it's even more trouble for a
jackson team. Were at least, if you look at the Eagles,
to your point, it's an easier division. It looks like
plus you're still getting Carson Wentz back in the seeing
of things. I know you've got some running back injuries
to deal with, but it seems at least if your
(01:44:12):
quarterback is trending upwards. That's a better thing to have
what you've got in Jacksonville, where their defense also seems
like man. Jacksonville reminds me of the Seahawks without the
Super Bowls, like they just they remind me of of
of allowed talk a lot, aggressive defense and organization without
the Super Bowl and and Seattle could could get away
(01:44:34):
with that until they were no longer winning super Bowls.
And you know that as a Seahawks fan. Then it
just all sort of fell apart, and it just became
maybe Pete Carroll and the organization saying we want our
we want our team back. And you've got a lot
of guys that talk a lot, Jalen Ramsey being one
of them. Uh and if and if you come out
and you and you rip quarterbacks, and it was great
before the season, then all of a sudden you decide
(01:44:55):
you don't want to talk with the media. Um, I'm
surprised we haven't heard more stories of them rebelling against
the idea of Bordles being the quarterback. Remember Warren Sapp
years ago in Tampa Bay, their only issue was they
couldn't find a quarterback, and Warren Sapp came out and said,
if we had the fifteenth ranked offense. Nobody in the
league would beat us Like It's not like asking a lot,
(01:45:15):
but it is basically saying, we don't have a quarterback here.
No teammates still seem to be rallying around Blake Bortles publicly,
but then you hear about the fights after the game
you hear. It just reminds me so much of when
Seattle started to take a downward slide and then you
see what they becomes. And not only did Seattle have
the Super Bowl that Jacksonville doesn't, they have five seasons
of success of really good, really like you know, super
(01:45:36):
Bowl contending teams and two Super Bowl appearances where the
Jaguars had a one season of it. Because this season
just hasn't been good. The other factor that I I
don't know, and I don't know this that I'm just
bringing it out there because I think it should be noted.
And I'm not trying to call out Doug Morone for this,
but I'm wondering if he is the guy straighten out
(01:45:57):
the locker room considering remember he's the guy who exercised
the out of his contract in Buffalo with the ownership change,
saying I'll just take the money and not coach where
it rubbed a lot of his teammates the wrong way.
Came in, got the job when he took over for
Gus Bradley after he was dismissed, ends up being the
the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, when you're
(01:46:19):
dealing with this adversity, how well and how can Doug
marrone adapt to that adversity? And I think it's a
real question. I don't know enough about Doug Marron, but
in the in the scenarios that we've seen in the past,
I'm not sure that's the case. And I think that's
another thing here. Maybe if it was a different head
coach to rally, maybe that's not realistic in the NFL.
(01:46:39):
But I just think that that could be another problem
for the Jacksonville Jaguars in their locker. And here's the
other thing like that organization. You can say what you
want about the Jacksonville Jaguars, they have shown a level
of loyalty that is not seen in a lot of
places in the NFL. Most organizations would have turned away
from Blake Bortles at this point. They have not. You
can call it stubbornness, whatever you want. Most organizations wouldn't
(01:47:02):
have given Gus Bradley the number of years that he
got when they were completely and totally underwhelming and he
had an awful win loss record as a head coach,
but Jacksonville stuck by him. I'm curious to see if
this season continues to go down the drain if they
decided to part ways with Doug Moron after he did
have them in the a f C Title game, he
(01:47:23):
did have them close to going to a super Bowl,
if they showed that same level of loyalty and patients
that they showed Gus Bradley, who didn't do nearly as
much from a win loss standpoint that Doug Moron has
done in Jacksonville. You mentioned as well, at least the
Eagles have their Super Bowl championship town. Oh yeah, we
got the hang. Look like a super Bowl appearance bought
Jeff Fisher two decades. What do you think Doug Peterson's
(01:47:45):
gonna get amazing? Uh, that's the early game again, an
early start, nine Eastern, six Pacific in London, Eagles and Jaguars.
And you'll be on the air when that games Fox
Football Fantasy. We'll have it covered. We'll get you the
sits and starts and who you want to play, who
you don't, will even give you that before kickoff of
that Jaguars Eagles game. I love those London games because
people on the East Coast get to see how we
(01:48:06):
live early in the morning. Yes, not a bad thing
at all, uh, Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in for Doug
Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, we
are going to hear from somebody who will be taking
home an award, one of the most prestigious awards in sports.
That's coming up next here on Fox Sports Radio for
all the latest though, it's Dan by Jonas. I've got
(01:48:29):
the lineups for Game three of the World Series in
front of me. You're gonna see, Yes, Monty Grandall behind
the plate for the Dodgers. He is gonna be their
starting catcher in place of Austin Burns, who is out tonight.
So yes, Monty Grandall gets the start as Walker Bueller
is on the plate, there's on the bump. Excuse me,
he's not gonna be at the play. Let's tell you
who will be at the plate. J D. Martinez. Yes,
(01:48:51):
the Red Sox slugger gonna play left field tonight for
the Red Sox. Has been dealing with that sore ankle,
but he is going to play four the Red Sox
in the starting lineup, so grandallin for the Dodgers, Austin
Barnes out, JD. Martinez in for the Red Sox, Andrew
ben Attendee out for Boston. He'll be on the bench
for tonight's Game three cover John Fox seven thirty Eastern Time,
(01:49:13):
first pitch just after eight o'clock Eastern. Red Sox are
up to oh in the series. Some news from the NFL.
Texans gotta win last night, but today found out that
they lost wide receiver Will Fuller done for the season
with a torn a c l the Jaguars making an
official running back Leonard for Nett won't play against the
Eagles on Sunday. No surprise there because of his hamstring injury.
Buccaneers have the Bengals defensive lineman Gerald McCoy and Vinny
(01:49:36):
Curry have been ruled out of that game against Cincinnati.
No Tory Smith for Carolina. He's out against the Ravens
with a bad knee. In the NBA, Timberwold swingman Jimmy
Butler dealing with an illness. He's questionable to play the
against the Bucks to night, and you could see Frank
Nilakina starting up point guard for the Knicks. According to
(01:49:56):
reports out of the Big Apple Is they faced the
Golden State Warriors and having to read this seed Jonas
thanks Dan Jonas knocks Dan Buyer in for Doug Gottlieb
here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, we are now we
are here in rumblings that a John Ramo show will
be making its return. Um. Now, I was was quite
(01:50:19):
pleased with the thought of of that being dead and buried,
but but the John Ramo Show should be making a
return here momentarily, Dan, I guess we just have to
wait with bated breath if we are going to have
the John Ramo Show, just something something to wait for. John,
Can you give us any hints and if there is
going to be a John Ramo show or not? Uh,
(01:50:41):
We're not sure yet, but I have heard that I'm
saying after three maybe Pacific time, Okay, maybe, but that's
still up in the air. Maybe six eastern three Pacific. Huh.
That's that's quite a tease that we've left up and
be a sport, John, make it two fifty five. Come on,
that'll be ridiculous. This is the gott Leap Show here
on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm Dan Buyer.
(01:51:03):
That is John Ramos. We are in for Doug today.
Do you ever want to reach us on Twitter during
the show or after the show. I'm at Dan Buyer
on Fox. Jonas they can get you at and John
Ramos they can reach you at at J. S. Ramos
zero six. While we are waiting for one Christian yellows,
why not get this some picks for this upcoming weekend
as we dive into what's happening in college football in
(01:51:24):
the National Football League. I want winners. Well we got
it five NFL five College It's five for five with
Doug Gottli Let's go five, all right, Jonas? Yeah, Alabama
not playing this weekend, l s, you're not playing getting arrest.
You've got some other interesting matchups, including one with Kansas
(01:51:46):
State and number eight Oklahoma. The reason I bring this
one up the spread twenty four and a half. And
we spoke with Joel Klatt earlier in the game in
the show, and he said, expect this to be a
better ball game than maybe it looks like on the outside.
Oklahoma has mentioned a twenty four and a half point
favorite with an over under of sixty four and a half.
(01:52:06):
If Kansas State can run the ball against that Oklahoma defense.
I like k State plus the twenty four and a
half in this showdown in Norman on Saturday afternoon. Now, Dan,
you know I'm all about loyalty. UM And Chris plank
Box sports radio host. You hear him every Sunday night
here on fs ARE. He is the sideline voice of
(01:52:27):
Oklahoma Sooner football. He also covers basketball. He is the
guy in Norman, Oklahoma. So because of that loyalty, I'm
gonna take Kansas State. All right, there we go loading
up on the Wildcats. Yes, how about this and Happy
Valley A three thirty Eastern time kick number eighteen. Iowa
on the road at number seventeen. Penn State Mitney lyons
(01:52:47):
right now a six point favorite. Okay. Now, Iowa has
under the radar gotten back into the top twenty five
and has played some really good football. Um that'll conclude
this weekend. That will not happened. I like Penn State.
I think James Franklin gets them rallied. I think he
gets in. Iowa's defense is very good, but I think
they're gonna be able to figure it out. I think
(01:53:08):
McSorley is gonna make enough plays that Penn State is
gonna be able to cover that spread. I m hmmm.
I like the Hawkeyes. I like the hawk Eyes in
this one trending upwards. So Jonas and I differ. Give
me the Black and Gold at least on the road
in a happy valley. How about this one from the
SEC number twelve, Kentucky at Missouri. I'm gonna go with
(01:53:28):
the over under on this, which is fifty six and
a half. I'm taking the over. I know it's a
the I just I feel that something could be in
the makings here of a shootout. Heck, maybe even the overtime.
I like Kentucky and Missouri in this over of fifty
six and a half of this SEC show. Can I
bet us to whether or not I'm not going to
watch absolutely? Are you going to watch this game? Yes
(01:53:52):
or no? Let's see what's the over under. I'm gonna go.
Dan not not a whole lot of interest in this game,
especially when you've got the world's largest cocktail party gone, okay, alright, alright.
I was gonna save it for last, but you've got
Georgia and Florida playing in Jacksonville. This is interesting because
it's unlike what they do with Oklahoma Texas, where they
(01:54:13):
split it at the fifty yard line. These fans are
split in the end zone. So you're gonna see one
sideline on TV of a full squad sat at the
border in the end zones. One year of a Georgia
Florida game, it was it was nuts. You've got it
in Jacksonville. The Gators a one point dog to the
Georgia Bulldogs seven verses nine in this SEC East showed out.
(01:54:37):
I still think Georgia is one of the better teams
in college football, and I think Georgia wins this game.
Give me the Bulldog stand. I'm gonna, I'm gonna. I'm
gonna settle up with you on that one as well.
I'll take the Dogs and finally, packed twelve show down,
Stanford home to Washington State Cardinal at two and a
half point favorite. Cougar's come in ranked fourteen stand for
(01:55:00):
in at number twenty four. Listen, I I just I
can't believe in Washington State give me the cardinal in
this one with the minus two and a half. Again
about loyalty. Brad Powers, who you can hear on straight
out of Vegas coming up in about twenty minutes from
now here on Fox Sports Trader. He is the college
football expert. He loves Stanford. In this spot, he totally
(01:55:22):
buys into Stanford. Here. Stanford always seems to win these games.
They always seem to just figure out these games. Uh
at two and a half point spread that I'm seeing
in some places, maybe two or three. But I'm gonna
take Stanford in this one as well too. There it
is your five for five in college football the NFL.
We'll maybe leave that a little bit there. It is
(01:55:43):
five NFL. Let's go five college five for five with
Doug Godley. So the college is in the books. NFL
could be on the horizon as well. There's more Jonas
and and and a special special treat could be coming
up next here a right, we could have a special
treat coming up next, Dan, Are you ready for a
special treat? I am, I am ready. I'm There's a
(01:56:05):
there's a lot that could could happen. Maybe in the
final twenty minutes of the show. So we could possibly
have an m v P, but we do have an
m v P on this show. There's an m v
P on this show. His name is John Ramos, and
apparently m v P John Ramos has a special treat
for us. He has a special treat for everybody out here.
It is a Friday phenomenon called this. It's called sucker.
(01:56:31):
Does it get any better than this? I think it's
the John Ramo Show. It's the John Ramo Show, Ramo Show.
This is the John Ramnos Sports on Box Radio. Here's
John Ramos. He says exactly what Suzanne tells him to say.
Shut up, John, Yes, yeah, Wow. Hey, let's do this
(01:56:59):
every any great good evening. You're good to eat everybody.
We have a great show for each It's Freaky Friday.
That's right, let's get freaky. Make sure always use the
hashtag the John Ramo Show on tonight's Freaky Friday. I
want to know what makes you freaky on this Friday booze.
Is it because your wife has out of town this weekend?
(01:57:20):
I know I'm freaking out because we had the John
raml Show back. I want to hear from you and
our read your tweets. On the air. This is the
first John Ramo show we've had in quite a while.
We are packed. I'm so excited about one of the
special musical guests, ari on a Grande. We also have
(01:57:41):
Pete Davidson. That should be lots of fun. We also
have had the cast of Bohemian Rhapsody and the original
living members of The Queen. How cool is that. Megan
Kelly will stop by, guys, and she's got plenty of
time these days, so we'll see how that goes. Yeah,
I know it's great. This will be interesting. Former NBA
(01:58:02):
star Fat Lever. Well, wait a minute, I'm getting a
call right now. As always, I'm happy to welcome in
my sidekick Ryan, Ryan. How is it going so good? John,
I am so excited. That's the time we have for tonight. Fake.
Thanks to everyone who tweeted us the hashtag the John
(01:58:24):
Romals Show. And Dan, I'll catch you on your backside
all right? Wow? Oh my god. Hey, by the way,
you can send that on Marconi to uh the Box
Sports Radio attention U b k R. Wow. Uh is
(01:58:46):
kind of the abbreviation of broken. That was that was
good stuff. Johnny didn't have enough time never never a time. Yeah.
That uh, that was my fault. I'll take a d
for that here on fs A alright, uh, Dan Buyer,
Jonas Knox got leave here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming
up next here on fs are we you will be
(01:59:07):
hearing from the eventual MVP. All right, The eventual m
v P is going to be joining us next year
on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions
of the Doug dot Leap Show week days at noon
Eastern three pm Pacific. It's a Doug Gottlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio, brought to you by Discover Card. We
treat you like you treat you. He's Jonas Knox. I'm
(01:59:29):
Dan Buyer in for Doug Gottlieb. Joined now on the
program by Brewer's Outfield an n f n L m
VP candidate Christian Yellis, who joins us on behalf of
Team Mobile is the raising money for hurricane relief. Hey, Christian,
thanks so much for coming on today. We appreciate it.
You got a guys, thanks for having me. What's so?
What's it been like the last couple of days. If
you have you watched any of the first two games
(01:59:50):
of the World Series. After you, guys, came so close
to getting there. If you have you checked out any
Dodgers Red Sox, Uh parts of the game. Uh just
if I happen to be around it's on, I mean
I'll watch it, but uh, you know I haven't been.
The day hasn't been revolving around that. I guess you
could say the least. But you know, it's two great teams,
it's great for baseball, and obviously you wish you could
(02:00:11):
be playing in it. We got real close, but you know,
I should be a heck of series. Did you guys
have an issue with the scheduling of the NLCS, the
fact that you had to play a two pm local
time game after going thirteen innings the night before. Uh no,
I mean that's just that's just how it works. Um.
You know, both teams have to do it, and there's
no excuses. You know, you can't use that as an
(02:00:33):
excuse or you don't even want that to enter your mind,
you know, especially at that time of the year. It's just, uh,
focus on the business you have to take care of
and you know, go out there and do it. Christian
Yellings of the Brewers joining us during the World Series,
Team Mobile will donate ten thousan dollars per home run
and two dollars for every post on Instagram and Twitter
using the hashtag hashtag HR. For HR retweets count two.
(02:00:53):
So take us back to Game seven, fifth inning. You
hit the shot off your bat. In golf, they always
say you expect your actual play opponent to make his put.
Do you expect Chris Taylor to make that catch? Um?
I don't think you expected to make the catch. But
I think when I hit it, I didn't. I didn't
get it great obviously, if I know it was I
(02:01:13):
knew it was staying in the ballpark and I can
kind of see it tailing back towards him. Um, it
was a great play. Definitely changed them amid him in
that game, because you never know what happens after that's
a tie game and this guy's second with two outs
and he's coming up, so um, you know, I mean,
he's a great player and he made a great play,
and I just didn't go away. And you know, when
you're playing in a game seven and it's one game
(02:01:35):
to see who goes a little series, anything can happen.
And I just didn't go away. But I think our
team can be proud of what we accomplished this here
and um, you know it'll give you the hunger. I'll
give you that drive going in the next year. We
got this close and we know what that feeling of
disappointment flight and use that as motivation, um, throughout the
year to to get back and see if we can
take that next step. Now, Christian, you're from Thousand Oaks, California, correct,
(02:01:59):
all right, I'm born in ray Is there. I still
live in Thousand Oaks, California. So you know Harley's Bowl
and Semi Valley, Right, You've been a Harley's Bowl before.
It's not the night way back in the day. I
can remember being locked in one time and bowling a
two ninety and it seemed like no matter how I
threw the ball, and it could have been like the
five or six bud lights I had had moments before
the game, but no matter how I threw the ball,
(02:02:20):
it seemed like I was going to hit a strike it.
That's the only time I've ever felt locked in. You
were as hot of a hitter towards the end of
the regular season as I've ever seen. What is that
like to be that locked in? And did it feel
like that ball was going out of the yard every
single time you swung the bat and made contact. Yeah,
you know it was. It was a lot of fun.
And I think as a hit or you're you're constantly
searching for that feeling of you know, when you just
(02:02:42):
it just feels right. Um, And it didn't feel right
every day in the second half. There was a lot
of days where it did. But um, I think it
was just being really stubborn in your routine and making
sure that you didn't take any day for granted and
really just um, however the day prior lant it's good
or bad that you flushed it and you focused on
(02:03:03):
you know, what you had to accomplish the help the
team that day, and what you wanted to do individually,
your approach against the picture, and really just being disciplined
and I think that was one of the biggest differences.
And and just being locked in on that playoff run
or we had to win so many important games there
down the stretch that um, you couldn't get lack of
datical as a player, I think that was one of
the key factors. Build Glove finalist and an m m
(02:03:24):
VP candidate, Christian Yell it's joining us. Home runs for
Hurricane has already raised over four point six million dollars
for Team Rubicon, a military veteran lead disaster relief organization.
Were you surprised at your season at all for how
great it was? Was there any surprise with what you
did this year? Uh? Yes, and no, I think I
think you know inside what he was capable of as
(02:03:46):
a player. But to say that you ever expect to
do something like like that or have a season like that, Uh,
you know, I think I can't think. I think you
can't say you expect that, But to know it's inside
of you, I think I always had that feeling or
I could just put it together and um, you know,
have them have some things go right there that you're
capable of it. But it was a special here. It
(02:04:07):
was a lot of fun. Um, all the winning we
did as a team, you've made it even more fun
and you just try to really appreciate it and easier
to look back on it now, um and appreciate it.
And it was why you're actually going through it. Like
I said, it was just the next game up, and
we played so many important games on the stretches. You
weren't really getting nostalgic about it or looking back on
it and resting on your laurels. I guess you could say,
(02:04:28):
before we let you go, when you win the m
v P, where you putting the troph Hey, we'll see.
Come on, man, we'll see what I love it. We'll
see what happened. I mean, Um, you know it's not
official till it's official, but it'd be a huge honor
as a player, no doubt. Um, you know, just to
be in that conversation and even have a chance to
win something like that. It's truly mind blowing when you
(02:04:49):
think about it, because I think as a player, you never,
no matter how well or how good of seasons you
have in your career, I don't think you can ever
expect to win an award like that. Christ Christian Yellich
