Speaker 2 (00:35):
What you get there?
Speaker 1 (00:36):

ten thousand recommended sallars, tyrat dot com. It's the way
tire buying should be dot.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
So the ACC is the Atlantic Coast Conference, And look,
I could chastise the ACC and go like, man, you
guys did the ACC that changed your day?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Because yeah, yeah, the ACC has called staff for it,
so it should be the All Codes Conference. THEALLY did that.
But it's like, really, are we gonna make fun of
the ACC when the Big ten hasn't had ten teams
and like, I don't know, twenty five years, you know,
like when was the last time the Big Ten had
(01:25):
ten to ten teams that would predate Penn State join
the league. So yeah, it's weird. It's super super weird.
And then you got SMU, which is I mean, SMU
bought their way into this thing, which is kind of genius,
(01:46):
sort of diabolical and rather impressive too, like SMU had
so they used to be part of the Southwestern Conference, right,
Southwestern Conference, Southwestern Conference will Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, TCU,
(02:09):
Arkansas right whom I forget? Arkansas is six in Texas,
Texas TECHCU, SMU, Rice, and Houston, you know. And so
now this is the irony to it. The only school
that's kind of of those Texas schools that's left out
is Rice, which is the best academic school of the
(02:31):
bunch by a mile, and they have crazy, crazy endowment.
The difference is SMU. I don't know if you guys
saw this deal. They're not going to take TV revenue
for the first ten years there in the league, like now,
we don't want it. And while most of you will
sit there and go, wait a second, that's thirty million
dollars difference between them and the rest of the league. True,
(02:55):
but they weren't making through. They weren't making thirty before
they were in the American and the America was likely
to collapse, and they weren't going to make ten million
in their next deal. And oh yeah, by the way,
what they miss in that TV revenue they can make up.
When you got Florida State or Virginia Tech or Miami,
those teams on your schedule, Notre Dame, those teams on
(03:16):
your schedule come to play in your building, you can
make up for what your season ticket sales. You know,
you just can't like their stadium is super small, so
they could probably make I don't know, seventy five million
on ticket sales whatever, plus to have a ton of
donations and they just this could be a complete game
(03:38):
changer for them because now it legitimizes as semi football,
and all the buying of players they used to do,
they got them in trouble back of the day. Now
that's all legal. As for Callen Stanford, I mean, it's terrible.
There's no other way to express it. Call and Stanford
are going to play in the same league. Is Virginia
(04:01):
Tech and Wake Forest and Florida State and Clemson Like
that just doesn't make any sort of sense. And I
you know, I'm sure this is one of the things.
I'm sure that cal and Stanford when you're there talking
to their athletic department, they're like, look, what this is
(04:22):
the best we could do. You know, if we waited
and combined with the Mount West our TV revenue, all
of our revenues are going to go from you know,
thirty five million to five million. You know, which is
more problematic, I think for cal Than is for Stanford.
Stanford being a private school. On the other hand, it
(04:43):
doesn't matter who you bring in to Palo Alto. They're
not drawing. They're not like Stanford. They can make it
up if people want to donate, but they can't make
it up in the stadium because they just don't have
the same passion for it. It's gross, it's sad. It's
not just the destruction of the Pac twelve, but just
(05:04):
these Now you're with these strange bed partners, you know,
and it's like when you had married couples that you
thought we were gonna make to make it to the distance.
Now of a sudden, like you kind of get back
and it's a family reunion or it's a it's this
class reunion and you're all with like weird, weird, like
they don't really know all the handshakes, all the deals.
(05:29):
So what it feels like, you know, you married your
high school sweetheart, your college sweetheart, and then you have
a high school or college reunion and then you bring back,
you know, the new wife or the new husband. That's
that's what this thing feels like. Yeah, and I think
the bad part about it is like once you start
(05:51):
doing it in season, it feels even worse. Because last
night was a good celebration of college from all being back. Nebraska,
of course, who kind of started some of this trend.
They're at Minnesota. You have the Florida Utah game, and yes,
under the service there it's Utah last year in the pack.
(06:13):
Then they're joined the Big twelve, came the Big twelve.
Cheer for them, et cetera, et cetera. But I mean,
I don't know. You look at it and you sit
there and go, I was excited about the games, not
thinking about conference re alignment, and then you wake up
today and all of a sudden, the ACC is welcoming
in three new teams, two of them play in northern
(06:34):
California and one plays all by themselves in Dallas. That's
just weird. Just I mean, when things start to make
no sense at all, you're just like, what are we
what are we actually doing here? What are we.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Actually doing here?
Speaker 1 (06:52):
So, Doug gottlieb Shaw on Fox Sports Radio, Yes, go ahead, Jay, Doug.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Do you think that I don't know when, when kind
of the dust clears here and we have like established
conferences for the near future, that the there's going to
be a rebranding, literally renaming these conferences. Because though it
was always a piece of crap, conference like Conference USA,
I thought was maybe the best name for a conference
(07:22):
because they could literally add anybody in the continental United States.
But when you start adding West Coast teams, the ACC
Big ten becomes eighteen teams or whatever. Do you see
them rebranding these conferences soon?
Speaker 1 (07:35):
I think the Big twelve has talked about rebranding. I
don't think the Big Ten does. I don't think the
SEC does, just because of the value they feel like
the value in their names, and they both have, you know,
networks that are not floundering, the SEC and the Big
ten Network, Big ten Network. But it's so weird I
(07:56):
mean to just to not know who's in your league
and to add these weird it just we and to
have eighteen teams in the league like that just feels
kind of hack job. But it's I am surprised that
the ACC did it, but they must have gotten they
just got such a deal on three teams, like, hey,
do you want three new teams? Not really? What if
(08:16):
one team doesn't take any money, another team doesn't take
Col's not taking anywhere for seven years, Like, I don't
know how this cal thing's gonna work. They just don't
have the volume of people that are donors, and they
gotta have to make money off their stadium. They got
a big debt service on their stadium.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
I mean, this still survive because of this, but will
they thrive? Doubtful, very doubtful. And as much as we're
concerned about football and basketball teams in the travel, imagine
the Olympics sports, the non revenue generating sports and what.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
You do there.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
This is the best of the Done Dot Leap Show
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Let's get to the gambler. All right, So we got
some rules with this week's gambler. Okay, I want you
to Jay Stu. You come up with the Jays two
team parlay right, that actually is trademarked. Did you guys
see him on Shark Tank? I thought that was impressive.
You got a Shark tank with that one. But we're
all going to have a parlay. Okay, it's got a
(09:23):
combined NFL Week one future lines of prop et cetera.
Can't just be a standalone bet for the gambler. We're
a week away from NFL season kicking off less than
a week away. I need your bet. Go ahead, Jay Stu,
you got the Jay's two team parlay.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
You're ready?
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Okay, So the rules are it needs to be NFL
because I have two college football picks from way.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
You know what, do you want to save the NFL
for next week?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Yeah, we can do that.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
But so that's fine.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Because my Jay's two team parway is a must for
this week. So, uh, Colorado travels to TCU. I have
take TCU giving the points, Doug, I have no faith
in Deon Sanders, and I want you to j stew
team parlay that with New Tennessee. Tennessee goes on the
(10:13):
road to play a really bad Virginia team and they're
giving twenty seven and a half. I think they're road.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
I think they're at home.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
I'm looking at Virginia.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
It's it's it's in, it's in Nashville.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
That's what I meant. So it's a neutral site. But
just a memo to Virginia fans, Matt Schaub is not
walking through that door. Put Tennessee with TCU for my
j stew team parlay this week.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
And the best you can hope for that? Alight, Nick Cope,
you get to get into this fun. Give us your
pick of the weekend.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
All right, So I need to do a parlay. Correct,
That's that's what I'm hearing.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
No, we're gonna do that next week.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Okay, have a pick.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Just give us your pick.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Yeah, I got.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
I got tonight eight o'clock eastern on the Islands. Where
you need to go to get right here at the
end of this Friday, Stanford at Hawaii. Stanford is favored
by three. They've got a new coach and Troy Taylor,
who I like. He was great at sack State, but
they lost a ton of the transfer portal. They very
well could be the worst team in the Pac twelve
this year. Meanwhile, Hawaii year two under Timmy Chang. Probably
(11:24):
not gonna be a great year, but they showed something
last week against Vandy. They're at home game under their belt.
They're still playing in that makeshift stadium, still renovating a
Loja stadium. I'll take the Rainbow Warriors plus three over Stanford.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Could you go Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii. There you go, Hawaii, Hawaii.
Pretty good, pretty good?
Speaker 7 (11:48):
Ramos Well, I just told Nick, because he was walking
the hall, you're gonna love this one. I'm not gonna
love it, but I'm going for money. I'm not worried about.
The Giants are at San Diego tonight to take on
the Andres. The Giants are underdogs. Don't know why they
beat the Padres. As I was a six, nothing smoked him,
(12:08):
smoked him. The Padres are going down fast, and tonight's
no difference.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
I'll take the Giants plus.
Speaker 7 (12:16):
Oh, you can get him at plus one fifteen plus
one twenty. Take the Giants tonighty quickly, Dug. I saw
that the Rams they're over and under for wins. This
here is six and a half. That's a little high
for me. I like the four. I don't like the
six and a half. So I would take the under
on the Rams wins at six and a half, just
to let you know.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
I'm with you too. I mean, outside of those two
Arizona Cardinals games, tell me what you're counting on. Okay,
I'm gonna I'm gonna stick with the college footall picks
we'll get. Chris Filika's opinion momentarily that gun Cal takes
on North Texas all right now as much as like
(12:58):
what I say. So Cal's new game run core, uh
run game coordinator, offensive line coach was the offensive coach
offensive coordinator under Seph Latrell last year, all right, and
they got fired, so there's some familiarity there. North Texas
new head coach is Eric Morris. Eric Marrish was the
offensive coordinator at Washington State. They beat col last year.
(13:22):
Col's I think really well coached with Justin Wilcox, but
they got the same issue that Stanford does. Transfer Port
has been rough on them and it's hard to get
kids at times in the school. I like North Texas
a six point dog. I liked the to win straight up,
straight up, I'm gonna take North Texas over Cow. That's
my pick of the week. When he's sitting at the tab.
(13:46):
Let me hear you, Nick Cope. I gotta hear Nick Cope.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Oh you don't want to hear it?
Speaker 1 (13:52):
You got what out of?
Speaker 8 (13:56):
No?
Speaker 1 (13:56):
When to fold?
Speaker 2 (13:58):
No, when to go away?
Speaker 1 (14:01):
No running down money.
Speaker 8 (14:09):
Tom.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Let's welcome h In. It's Doug out Lib show here
on Fox Sports. Traded Life from the tyrack dot com studios.
Chris Flica was a head researcher at ESPN. Of course
you saw him as the bear on college Game Day.
He has departed that place as so many of us have,
and now he's our colleague here at Fox. You'll see
him on Big Noon Kickoff. And of course he's got
(14:35):
a new podcast out. Chris, thanks so much for joining us. Flicks.
Tell me about your new podcast.
Speaker 9 (14:40):
No, it's great. We had the first episode this week.
H Nara Betch with Jeff Schwartz, who obviously has played
college football in the NFL at highest level, Will Hill,
who is a contributor on v sand and some other
projects as well. It's Sammy p who's written for Fox
Sports for a while and got a lot of inf
So yeah, we had a successful first Oh I saw
(15:01):
that the Apple podcast had us a like number four
for the at some point yesterday, so that was good.
It's popular. So we're going to have a college one
out on Thursday. We're gonna have an NFL one out
on Friday, starting next week, so I'm I'm really looking
forward to it, and show will continue to evolve every week,
so I appreciate people reaching out and commenting on things
(15:21):
we can add, things we could do better, and things
that are hoping to hear from the future. So it
was a lot of fun final to get back and
do something. People have been asking for months if we're
going to be doing another podcast, and I had to
kind of lay be a little KOI about the whole thing,
but of course it was going to be a podcast,
and we're happy to get coming.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Well, right, let's test what we have so far in
terms of data. How'd you do last night with your picks?
Speaker 9 (15:46):
The only thing I got involved in was Utah under
forty seven. I was holding that for a while becaus
all along I didn't believe that Cam Rising was going
to play in that game. So I got a good
number and then it closed out. They did forty four,
and as you watch the game, there was never a
threat that that game was going to go over the
forty seven. So that was the only thing that I
(16:08):
really got involved in last night in the in the
college game was kind of an unspectacular type type slate.
I did hop in alive on the under in Nebraska Minnesota,
which which worked out as well. That was But it
really doesn't matter who the head coach is in Nebraska,
whether it's Mike Rowley, both Malini, Scott crofton now it
(16:29):
appears Matt rule that it just appears to be a
snake bitting program who has figured out ways to lose
games that they very easily could have won. So looking
looking forward to a better slate tomorrow and hopefully find
some games to hop in on. But yeah, for a
small slate on a fall, small sample south On Thursday,
a couple of things I was in.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
On went, well, can we can we have the conversation
I feel like everyone's having in terms of betting in
college football, the new timing rules that seems, at least
on the outside, it's going to affect the totals in
your mind, give me the totals you're looking at week one.
Speaker 9 (17:07):
Yeah, that's a conversation obviously, you said everyone has had
at the same time, i think obviously it's baked into
a lot of the numbers where odds makers are expecting
these games to be lower scoring, and I'm curious to
see how the numbers stack up after a full week
of games because i think in the small sample size
we have seen lower scoring games, we have seen more unders.
(17:31):
Will numbers continue to fall and again, is that a
by product of good defense bad offense. I think we
saw a lot of both in some of these games
in the Week zero and then the Thursday game as well,
But I'm curious to see. I think ultimately what we're
going to see are yes, we're going to see fewer plays,
(17:52):
but I think we're going to see as many fewer
plays as people think. I think. I think what we're
going to see is like the time being short as
well of the game. But overall, I'm still kind of
holding out to see if this is kind of real
or if this is just noise.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Okay, before we go to full Week one schedule, in
your Picks of the weekend, got a good slate tonight.
Michigan State's getting ready to play. They have obviously had
disappointing season last year, as opposed to Kansas, who had
another worldly good season last year. We already have an
early season ACC matchup Louisville and Georgia Tech Stanford. I
guess we talked about this, so they're going the ACC.
(18:32):
They're taking on Hawaii out on Oahu. Hawaii's already owned
one this year. Any leans tonight.
Speaker 9 (18:40):
The one thing that I would play tonight would be
Louisville laying seven and a half against Georgia Tech. I
think Georgia Tech last year snuck up on some people.
They won some games and some spots where I think
a lot of opponents didn't really respect Georgia Tech. I
didn't think they were very good, so I think maybe
they slept walk through some games and Beacon teams that
(19:02):
they probably shouldn't have. Haines King, the Texas A and
M quarterback is transferred in there. But at the same time,
I think there's a lot of excitement about this Louisville
program with Jeff Brohm coming in, bringing in the quarterback
that he's familiar with, that that's been in his system.
I think Louisville, yes, they did lose a lot defensively,
(19:22):
but I'm not sure Georgia Tech is the team that's
going to be able to expose that Louisville as a
team that I think could be sneaky good this year.
So of the four games tonight, I would be behind
Louisville but most and then the other game I would
look at if I had to play something else is
I would consider taking Miami of Ohio plus the points
against Miama Mater Miami of Florida. Miami is Florida last
(19:47):
year against FBS teams as a favorite, went zero to
six and lost three times outright, including twice as a
double digit favorite. So the Byron Cristobal is kind of
reshape that roster and you get Tyler Van Dyke back
at quarterback. But we will see how much that has
an impact. They're still kind of lacking at the skill
positions in terms of breakaway type game breakers, a wide receiver.
(20:10):
So again, will it matter will come into play against
Miami Ohio, I don't know, but they have struggled in
this role mightily. Whether the coach has been ninety Diaz,
whether the coach has been more grit, whether the coach
has been matri Chris Smaus.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
I was looking at this number. Obviously, Iowa's offense was
kind of like the laughing stock of well college football,
but especially the Big Ten last year. So they're twenty
three and a half point favorite against Utah State. You
know there's this expression, right anything in time something's too
good to be true? It probably is doesn't that feel
too good to be true? Like you have to take
Utah st eight? I mean, is that too big a number?
Speaker 9 (20:45):
I actually would lay it with Iowa in that game.
I certainly would have looked at the under Utah State.
I don't think it's going to be very good this year.
And while came back to Marus, I've heard both things.
I have heard people expect him to play, and I've
read people that don't expect him to way the people
who who I trust say they don't expect him to play.
(21:07):
But at the same time, I don't think that's going
to matter against Utah State. Iowa's defense, I think is
still too good in this situation. I think they'll go
out and beat Utah State pretty convincently.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Okay, the big noon game, you'll be there. I know
Colorado TCU a lot of people laying that number because
not just they like TCU, but in Colorado's guys just
they met in the locker room before they walk out there. Right,
obviously everyone's going to be there. It's coach Prime's first game.
What's your lean TCU Colorado considering the numbers, Yeah, I.
Speaker 9 (21:44):
Like the TCU team total over forty one and a
half in this game. I think it's a weird spot
because typically teams that aren't expected to be very good
a lot of times, like you'll look ahead, you'll kind
of look past and baby, they'll kind of sleep walk
through a game. But Colorado is going to be a
team that's expected to be bad. And because of Deion
(22:06):
Sanders and because of all the off season reshaping the
roster in the program, they're the list of coaches that
want to be Colorado and be Colorado badly is very
very long. So they're going to take everybody's bet shot.
Remember last year, Chambler Wallas actually started the season as
starting quarterback for TCU before we actually got You got
(22:28):
hurt in that Colorado game and then Max Duggan Lemn's
the national title game. I think CaCu feels good about
their wide receiver room. I think they're going to put
up a bunch of points. Now, now look at this,
you were a point guard you in putting play basketball
at a very high level. Part of the success of
the team was knowing kind of where your other players
(22:49):
on the court were going to be, Knowing you could
make that pass and know someone was going to going
to be there but before you even before you even
thought about doing it. On the defensive side of the ball.
For Colorado, you've got a bunch of new players who
were brought in after the spring. They haven't had any
time to acclimate and kind of build trust in each other.
So I think they're going to be a lot of
(23:09):
blown assignments, and I think TCU is going to put
up a big number.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
So Aroll steg Gottlieb Schell here on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio at Chris Felika is our guest. He's
been the lead researcher for college football four years, going
back to College Game Day, now part of Big newon
Kickoff in our college football coverage here at Fox. He's
got his own podcast out where he picks all these games.
He's going to join us every Friday. All right, give
me a couple of other games you looking at this Saturday.
Speaker 9 (23:37):
Two other games that I'm looking at. Washington laying fourteen
against Boise State. I don't think this matchup is very
good for Boise I don't think they'll be able to
control the line of scrimmage and run Hallani like they are,
like they're able to against a bunch of teams. I
don't think they have the game breakers at wide receiver
that they have had in the past. And I think
(23:58):
you double get off to a really nice start. Remember too,
this is a Boise team. If you go back over
the last seven years against Power five teams, they're just
two and seven, and five of those losses have been
by at least seventeen points of I like you dub
and I like South Alabama getting the six and a
half against Tulane. Tulane is kind of in the role
(24:19):
now we're South Alabama, But say the other way around.
Tulane last year was an underdog, pulled it up, said
early in the year against Kanasas State unappreciated. Now South
Alabama is in that position and to Laye has lost
Tigree Spears on offense and a couple of their linebackers
who were heart and soul of their team, especially on defense.
(24:40):
If you look at South Alabama, you've got about eighteen
returning starters, a really good young up and coming coach,
and Kave Walmack, an offensive coordinator in Major Apple White
who has had success, is going to give them a
bunch of different looks. South Alabama last year lost twice
in the regular season. They lost it by you still
lay by a point in a game that it really
(25:01):
should have won, and then lost to Troy in like
a four point ten sixth game where they add a
bunch of opportunities and Troy wound up winning that league.
This is a very dangerous game for Chulane. I'm taking
the jigs bus the points. And by the way, your
Alma manter better be careful. In a couple of weeks
with South Alabama goes to Stillwater, ooh yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Well, listen, I just that can't happen for oklam mistate.
Of course, they get Central Arkansas. Then they go to
Arizona State next week before they get that South Alabama game.
So let's let's hope that's not I'm again Oklahoma State
to me, Let's hope that's not that close. Listen. Uh,
can't wait to see on the TV side. Love the
new podcast and love that you're part of my show, Felix,
(25:42):
thanks so much for joining us. Chris FeliCa, thanks for
joining us here on the Doug Gotlib Show.
Speaker 9 (25:46):

We have these expressions we use all the time, and
many of us do not know where they come from,
or a lot of us misuse them like I'm big
on and people say it's tough road to hoe, Like
(26:48):
you don't hoe a road you hoe a row. It's
a tough row to hoe, right. It's also I couldn't
care less. If you say I could care less, that
means you care. That's the opposite of what you're trying
to express. So so I don't like when people misuse expressions.
But I also know that there's lots of expressions out
(27:09):
there that you've got to be fascinated. Where did they?
Where did they come from? So I want to talk
about putting one's foot in one's mouth. Ah, he really
put his foot in his mouth there, But where does
that come from? Jason Stewart, You've done the research. What's
the answer.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Let's see here. One site says that it is derived
from the phrase to put one's foot in it an
early expression that just means to do something embarrassing. Now,
a different variant is that it's a reference to foot
and mouth disease, which appeared in the mid what was
(27:47):
it twentieth century, where foot mouth disease is a medical
disease affects animals where hooves and their hoofs and their cows,
pigs and sheep deadly disease. That's it's not a very
fun variant of it. But so whichever one you want,
foot in mouth disease, or it's just a variation of
(28:07):
the phrase to put one's foot in it, like step
in it, you know.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Put your foot in your mouth. That's kind of disappointing.
It's got to be foot in mouth disease, right, and
that's kind of feels like it's.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
Probably yeah, probably that's a very pleasant image, you know.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
No, but what's your what's your favorite expression that?
Speaker 4 (28:28):
You know what? I I just I just proposed one,
or I introduce one to my hot girlfriend Christina.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Your own is the new one?
Speaker 4 (28:38):
No. I just said it out loud and she's like,
what what is that? And I'm like, uh so, we
were trying to map out how to get to a place,
and I just like kind of like said dismiss it
and said that's six one half does in the other
yeah you go. And she's like what. I'm like, six
one half doesn't know? You never heard of that?
Speaker 9 (28:56):
No?
Speaker 4 (28:56):
Never? And uh So, me being a smart ass, I
I googled how often it's used on the internet, and
I just I always send her links to when it's
used because she's you know, she's fifty years old and
she didn't know the phrase so I have to kind
of make fun of her.
Speaker 7 (29:10):
I have one dog, but I'm not. Is this you
tell me if it's being used the right way? Killing
two birds with one stone?
Speaker 4 (29:18):
Sure, okay, I like that.
Speaker 7 (29:20):
Sure, And the point of that would be like you
get two things done with only having to do one thing?
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Is that the theory of that?
Speaker 9 (29:27):
One? Yep?
Speaker 4 (29:28):
Okay?
Speaker 9 (29:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
In Russia the expression is two hairs with one rock.
I think, okay, yes, so yeah, it's it's uh, that's
emphasizing multitasking.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
I thought you were going for like a current events joke,
like two Ukrainians and one something. Oh oh no, But
that reminds me of another phrase that I kind of
like it.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
It reminds me of another phrase.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
I'm like, good, seriously, folks, one in the handbats two
in the bush. That's another great phrase, like if you've
got something secured, take advantage of it and don't worry
about the options that aren't secured.
Speaker 8 (30:08):
You know.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
Right, that's a hunting expression, isn't it. It must be
as they come from hunting, like right, like if you
get like a you get a small you get a
small one, you're you know, it's or it's like fish
like do you throw back the little fish and you
go after big one of the hands better than two
in the bush? Nick Cope, Do you have any expressions
that you like to use?
Speaker 6 (30:28):
You gotta, I got a fun one that that just
came to mind. Blank or get off the pot I
like that one. Get on with it already.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Well that's just comes from people going in there and
they're just on there all day.
Speaker 8 (30:42):
Right.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Also like cool as a cucumber, cool.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
As a cucumbers. Nice, that's a that's a good one.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
I don't know if cucumbers are actually cool or if
it's just alliteration. It just sounds.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
I think it's a literation, but cucumbers are generally cool.
Speaker 9 (30:59):
I like it.
Speaker 7 (31:00):
Keep him in the fridge, I like a good cue
couper and doug don't A lot of these terms get
used in sports.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
All the time, right, yeah, yes, yes, Like Randy Johnson
killed two birds with one.
Speaker 9 (31:16):
Bird with one.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Stuff.
Speaker 9 (31:20):
You know.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
I I still think that Randy Johnson being a photog
is hilarious considering how he went crazy on photogs and
he was pitching for the Yankees. That's just the most
ironic thing ever there. I'm just going for a walk here,
just come on, man. He had one of those gigantic voices,
you know, like this big guys had those big voices
where it almost feels like they've they had gigantism.
Speaker 7 (31:45):
Very weird.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
I've been doing radio long enough that I remember when
that happened. I do so I bring up two birds,
not two birds, I bring up putting your foot in
your mouth, because that's what Kelly Stafford did, right. She
said her husband's having trouble relating to his teammates, that
he actually went to the manager, the equipment manager, to
try and get like a printed out board so he
knew who everybody was. They're all on their phones all
(32:11):
the time. Here's Kelly Stafford kind of retracking on our
podcast on.
Speaker 8 (32:17):
A topic that I think it's relatable to the fact
that it's hard to relate to someone who is ten
years younger.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
It was written actually about it was a very relatable thing,
and I do think that's entirely true.
Speaker 8 (32:31):
But I'm not in an NFL locker, and I'm not
spending every day with these teammates. Obviously there's relationships. He
spends more time with them than he does with me.
During the season, that was tough I say all the time,
even my podcast probably not the best if your wife's
names in the media when it comes to if it's
talking about sports, and I failed pretty bad last week.
(32:56):
But I'm going to move forward, you know, hopefully those
guys and I know those guys know Matthew and don't
read into it because as we know, media can stir
things up. But I put my foot my mouth pretty good.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
This is not the media stirring things up.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
You said it.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
The media consert things out like I don't know, you
want to say no, like no one, no one made
her say that. We pinned her down and say say
something weird about your husband. Hey, he died. He can't
get away, he can't relate to the current players, like, oh,
we got it, we started up. Nothing's more obnoxious than
the if you have a podcast, on some level, you're
(33:36):
in the media. You don't have to be a true
neutral media member at some level that that's media, that's
new media. So you're blaming everybody else, like that's you,
that's not anybody else. And then the other part too,
it is nobody made you say it. So she's obviously
carrying some guilt because Matthew called her in. First of all,
(33:56):
I I've never been I've never been that keen on. See,
why are we calling Matthew Stafford? And we feel like
we call Matthew because she calls him Matthew.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Where are you on this? Jase too.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
I think that there's a couple angles here. I think
we've all we've all put our foot in our mouth
that we know that's feeling. The fact that she went
on her podcast and said that without running it by
him is odd. It so her taking it back almost
admits that that she was just kind of riffing and
(34:31):
didn't think it would be a big deal. And when
she says the media takes things and runs with it
or whatever, Yeah, all the blogs picked it up because
it was it was so out of school. It was
such a you know, an iceore for someone to hear it.
And then how about the other angle to this? You
put together a couple of things, right, Remember Michael Lombardi
(34:53):
came out with that report in July that the Rams
feverishly tried to trade Stafford. The Rams denied it, and
then there was that report where they went to Stafford
to take a pay cut for this this cap or
whatever and he denied them, and then you're hearing the
scuttle butt from his wife how he's not relating to players.
(35:15):
Maybe he doesn't want her put in the effort to
relate to the players because he's not necessarily happy being
on a team that's going to lose fifteen games.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
Oh, I totally agree. Well, plus, he didn't want to
get hit anymore. Exactly got a new offensive line again.
They keep trying to rework the offensive line. Like, dude,
I don't think he wants to get hit anymore. I
think he's he's All of this stuff has clearly been said.
She didn't just pull it out of her backside, right,
(35:43):
Do we really think she did that?
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Not at all. No, I think he said that to
her over dinner or whatever or pillow.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
So he's like, man, can't they just on their phones?
I don't know. I don't know who any of these
guys are. So she didn't really put her foot in
her mouth. She just spoke a litle bit out of turn.
And she's like, well, I don't know, I wasn't. I'm
not in the locker room every day, but he is.
And then she she kind of did the victim thing.
(36:10):
Did you guys hear the victim the victim thing where
she's like, and you know, he spends more time with
them than he does with me. You're like, oh, oh,
oh man, that's so sad. Are you okay? You know what,
You're okay, You're good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh
(36:30):
darning people like you. So I don't think she needed
a pass. I don't think what she said was all
that bad. But by bringing it up and by acting
like she has to apologize and walking back and I
didn't perform the duties up to my expectations type of thing,
You're like, Wow, why was it so bad? Clearly didn't
go over well with Matthew. He was not happy, Like
(36:52):
when I tell you this stuff, this has to stay
between us. On the other hand, if she's not willing
to share the details of what it's really like to
be married to an NFL quarterback, then what is the
actual point of her podcasts? She's between a rock and
a hard place. There's a there's an expression the rock
and a hard place. What are you gonna say?
Speaker 3 (37:10):
There?
Speaker 7 (37:11):
I said, what's the point of any podcast? When you
think about that, when it comes to what is your point?
What are you trying to accomplish.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
I mean, what is what are you going like, really philosophical?
Speaker 7 (37:20):
What's the point? Well, first of all, look what is
the point of podcast? I just look at last year's schedules.
The worst team had thirteen losses. I was the Texans,
and for some reason, Jason gave my Rams fifteen losses
this year.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
That's not gonna happen.
Speaker 7 (37:34):
By the way, They're not gonna be worse than the Colts,
who had a who was one of the did two
things worse last year. They hired somebody who'd never coached
before in professional football. And you're gonna give the Rams
more losses than them? Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (37:47):
I mean I used hyperbole just to get a reaction
on the job. But they're not going to lose or
win any more than three or four games, right they will? Yes? Wow, okay,
you think.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
They're gonna win more than four games?
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Cooper cups still out like who are they beating? And
I guess they play Arizona twice. There you go, there's
Arizona twice. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Well take a look at the sketchule.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Yeah, but you know other people are looking at the
schedule going we got the Rams there we can.
Speaker 7 (38:16):
Win the Yeah, I think four is that if they
had over under. I don't know what the over under is, Doug,
but if it's four, I'll take the over on that.
