(00:25):
a spectacular day. There is no doubt in my mind.
It's a better day than many many of your friends
are having. That's true, especially better than some of these
former NBA players. It is the Doug Gottlieb Show. It
is Fox Sports Radio. Wow Wow Wow. We have a
podcast that follows this show. It'll drop at the top

(00:48):
of the third hour, so it's two hour live radio
show podcast top of the third hour. And because the
pod and it lives forever, we can talk about what
I really want to talk about, which is Victor woman
Yamm dropping forty on twenty one shots last night, Like wow,
oh my god, he's as good as people thought he
could be. But that's not the story of the day.
That's not the job of Fox Sports Radio have opinions

(01:12):
on things that matter, and you can't. We can't go
with even last night's stories or the day before stories.
The story is that, as you've heard all day long,
Chuncey Billups, Terry Rozier among like thirty people arrested by
the FBI. I don't do I think the headlines are interesting. Yes,

(01:39):
I actually think some of the details in some of
these stories are more interesting than like, I don't know
what Chauncey Billups did. I know Chauncey. I played basketball
with him when we were in high school. He stayed
in my house. We've remained friendly, but we're not like boys.
That doesn't mean I'm dis seeing myself. I'm just saying

(02:01):
I have no idea what he did. Terry Rozier obviously
a lot of that, but the details are really interesting. First,
we play a couple things for you. Here's Cash Pttel,
who's the FBI's director, at a press conference Ruler.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Today, individuals such as Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones, and Terry
Rozier were taken into custody today former current NBA players
and coaches. What you don't know is that this is
an illegal gambling operation and sports rigging operation that spanned
the course of years. The FBI led a coordinative takedown
across eleven states to arrest over thirty individuals today responsible

(02:37):
for this case, which is very much ongoing. Not only
did we crack into the fraud that these perpetrators committed
on the grand stage of the NBA, but we also
entered and executed a system of justice against La Casinoshra
to include the Bonano, Gambino, Genevesi and Luchase crime family.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
I do wish he went Italian pronunciation right, Like somewhere
back there there's going like, hey, it's a lutey, it's
a luciano. Good, Like this deck can't pronounce nothing already,
I thought, buyer when I read this that Billips and
Damon Jones, they're accused of using their celebrity to lure

(03:24):
people into a playing game poker game that was rigged
by the mafia. The mafia allegedly. This is my favorite
part of the story. They use sophisticated cheating technologies. Now,
all of a sudden, you got Jason Stewart's attention, because
he's like, hey, this sounds like the Astros. I hate Springer,
I hate Springer anyway, including shuffling machines that could read

(03:49):
the cards in the deck, poker chip trays with hidden cameras,
special contact lenses, and glasses that could read pre marked
cards at an X ray table that could read cards
face down on the table. Once a so called fish
a whale if they're you know, really valuable lost. The
mafia used extortion and violence to make sure they paid

(04:12):
their gambling debts. Noicella said investigators found the scheme involved
members of Yeah, the Banano, the Menano, the Cambino, the Chase,
c the Genii Krime families right like, it's the one
time I'd love to say that they're not Italian mafia families,
but they're all Italian last names. I can't make that up.

(04:38):
I thought that that part to me. And then the
idea that that Terry Rogier told a buddy he's gonna
leave a game early with a knee injury. There's video
of that game which he was, and he to bet
the under, and then the guy collected the winnings and
then came over and cut up the under with him.
Those are the parts to me that are more interesting

(04:58):
than the actual headlines. How about you, Dan.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Byer, Well, yeah, I think that they would be, I mean,
because the details get into all the nitty gritty stuff.
But I also look at it and say that I
feel that Terry Rosier's role is separate from how I
view Jones and how I specifically view Billups, because Billups is,
I mean, he's a Hall of Fame player, Chauncey Billups

(05:24):
was a guy who did media. It's this mask that
you had no idea that you never would have guessed
was behind all of this, and to the point of
suckering people into rigged poker games so he could get
a cut. I think when sports gambling became legal, we
wondered that if guys would doctor their minutes, if they

(05:48):
would fake an injury, And we've seen that so far
with Johntay Porter, and now we've seen it with Terry Rozier.
So I think Roseyeer's part is separate from what Phillups is.
But the other thing in the article done by ESPN
and what the FBI has revealed is with Damon Jones,

(06:09):
who had a close relationship with Lebron. James Lebron is
now while he's not named, not a part of this
becomes a part of this because the FBI found that
Jones had given information that Lebron was not going to
play a game for the Lakers against the Milwaukee Bucks
in twenty twenty three, And so now it's where do

(06:31):
all these tentacles go? So that is obviously the biggest
story is in all the details. It's now how where
all these cracks and all these leaks end up trickling
down to, maybe to the greatest player of all time
who we don't know if Lebron had any role in
all of this right now he doesn't. But I was

(06:52):
shocked by Chauncey Billups. So now I'm not going to
put anything past anybody in talking about this stuff.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, it's Chase do what what what most intrigues you
about these stories?

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Just the line that you had read about the extortion
and the leveraging of people that are losing a lot
of money. That's that's what Adam Silver should be most
concerned about. When people involved in his league that have
direct chances of, you know, determining the outcome of games

(07:29):
and these prop bets, when they get leveraged, when they
get compromised due to violence or financial leverage, what they
will do to get out of that compromise. I think
that people kind of lose sight of that, like this
isn't just a gambling story. And I think the casual
nature of this is like, you know, sports gambling is legal,

(07:52):
what's the problem here? I mean, sports gambling's legal. What's
the problem is when these uh, when these types of
people that have been doing this for decades and decades
get leverage on people that can determine games, and then
you have all these people with access to these prop bets.
I kind of want to go back to a piece
of sound. Michael Porter did a did a podcast in

(08:15):
August on one Night with Steiny, and remember we played
it on the podcast. And what strikes you most about
this sound isn't what Porter's saying as much as how
he is saying it, how casual he is saying it,
which tells you this has talked about all the time
among NBA teams.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Think about it. You get mad at these dudes like
they do the sports betting, but think about it, if you
could get all your homies rich by telling him, Yo,
ten thousand dollars on under you know this one game,
I'm gonna act like I got an injury and I'm
gonna sit out. I'm gonna come out after three minutes,
and they all get a little bad because you did
it one game like that is so not okay. But

(08:54):
some people probably think like that. They come from nothing
and all their homies have nothing, and they're like, bro,
if I if I come out of this game after
three minutes, y'all all hit on my under We're all
getting a little back.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
I just think Adam Silver should be like stunned by
the casual nature of that.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Yeah, I agree with you. Oh hey, wait, what happened yesterday?
That's right, the NCAA approved the ability for coaches like
myself and for student athletes to gamble on professional sports.
What could possibly go wrong? What could possibly go wrong?
You know, it's really interesting the sports gambling aspect to it,

(09:33):
which is like we it's like we try and avoid
the human nature of it. Jason, you and I we've
all seen this coming. And and the gambling companies, by
the way, that even support the show in this network. Right, Like,
I'm not going to sit here and lie to you
tell you that we're the only reason we still exist

(09:56):
is because of gambling, right, The reason the NFL is
so up here is because of gambling. But just like
anything it it is a drug, okay, and people cannot
control it. Just like there's a percentage of people that
I can have a beer or two beers. I'm good
if I'm not driving, and it's a night when I

(10:19):
want to I'm good, like, but I'm not gonna wake
up the next day thinking I gotta have another beer.
I gotta have another drink. If I have more than
two beers to night, I will wake up tomorrow going
I'm not drinking for a month, Like I just don't
feel great, like you know whatever. That's just how I'm wired.
But many people wake up thinking when can I When

(10:39):
is the moment where five o'clock hits and I can
get to my next drink. And then there's some people
that wake up at first thing in the morning, like
I just got to have a drink to good work. Right,
that's that gene or whatever, the disease of alcoholism. What's
the same thing with gambling. Same thing with gambling. And
you know, there's no life for it, there's no training

(11:02):
course for it. You can do it on your phone,
and just like anything else, you'll get that immediate rush
and high and make a little money and be like
this is easy. Now you're gonna lose money. That's how
it works. It's just a case of can you are
you losing the type money that you can say, hey,
it was entertaining, it was fun, and then I won

(11:23):
a little bit. But yeah, people will do evil things
to not get exposed, not just for gambling, but for
losing massive sums of money. And once you once you
pick up that phone, once you answer, once you say
I don't have enough money to cover this debt, you
will do anything to get out of it. And then

(11:43):
once you try and do anything to get out of it,
now they got you and they can do anything they
want to you because you don't want to get exposed
because you'll never be able to work in your sport again,
go ahead.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Dan, it's funny because and I'm even looking up at
my screen right now. And at one point Harry Rosier
was investigated by the NBA and found no wrongdoing. Think
how crappy is your investigation? Then now if you found
no wrongdoing, but now the FBI is like, uh yeah,
here was a time where thirty bets were placed on

(12:14):
Terry Rozier numbers, which is my point. I think when
gambling became illegal or became legal, we thought I thought,
I think other people think this way that it's all right,
you're picking the Knicks to beat the Calves, and if
Donovan Mitchell throws away a basketball late, oh maybe that's
him fixing the game. But the fact that there are

(12:38):
lines on what Terry Rosier does is the problem because
I'll I had this conversation within the last couple of weeks.
I said, you're not going to have a superstar or
a main game be the way that you make money
on this. What it's going to be is something subtle
and it's something little. And the reason that they were
set off or tipped off to this the sports was

(13:00):
the sports books were because of the unusual high activity
towards Terry Rozier's number on that night. And to me,
what an atrocious plan. Like the documentary about whatever went
down with Chauncey Billups and how Damon Jones was involved
in that, that's gonna be fascinating. This Terry Roseer stuff
is silly to me, considering that it seems it would

(13:23):
be pretty obvious that Terry Roseer is getting all this action,
maybe some things awry here and the fact that we
actually have lines on Terry rose Heer, Like it's not
just over unders and it's how many points is lebron
gonna have or how many points is Covin Durant gonna have?
Like we're going down to Terry Roseer and that's where
the money is made. That's the part where I think

(13:43):
when this was all made legal, we didn't realize and
how deep this could go. And I think this is
a perfect example because it just looks pretty stupid to
me that people think that Terry Roseier and those people
could get away with that. You guys agree, like, I mean, well.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
I totally agree. I completely agree, completely agree. And I
and the idea that who's gonna notice they all notice?
It's not Do you remember the Alabama baseball coach who
got fired a couple of years ago, right because he
called his buddy in Indiana and he said the starters
out and they put like twenty grand on the game,
Like it's just a little Yeah, the people don't bet

(14:22):
twenty grand on Alabama baseball game. Course it's sent off alarms.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Yeah, that's why the Packers and the Cowboys they're bet
the most right because of the most popular teams, there's
an actual feeling for them. Why would there be any
feeling towards Terry Rozier's line that night and have it
all end up being unders.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
I I think there's also a point because I hear
this from some guys who look at all this and say, well,
the system's working for gambling, the bad actors are getting caught.
But I I not to get political, but like, I'm
pretty sure the same thing was said about Watergate back
in the I'm pretty sure that was exact line. It's like, well,
the systems working, we're catching corruption, but it keeps. When

(15:05):
you're in a pr battle like something like the NBA
is where it is you want to because there is
a magic to sport. You have to convince everyone it's
all on the up and up at all times. Yeah,
And the more times this happens in public, the more
cracks and that happen until nobody believes you anymore correct.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
And that point, it's a great point, and it's the
old It's why the Donneghey thing has done so much
harm to this league. And here's here's that this works
in concert with what we'll talk about in the pod, Chris,
what you and I discussed. The first two nights of
the NBA have been great. Even Jason Stewart was like,

(15:44):
I actually liked watching an NBA game, and Jason had
been like, I'm done, Like I don't you know, but
if you watch Oklahoma City play, those guys play hard
kind of ego lists, the Rockets are a fun watch.
Those two games the first night were great. Last night,
Victor webin Yama scored forty points and twenty one shots,

(16:04):
thoroughly dominate. Looks like forget, but the next star he
looks like a star. And after two really good nights
of play, now all of a sudden, the ship is
taking on a ton of water. And even though none
of the allegations involved affecting the actual outcome of a game, right,

(16:29):
just like when you get a new iPhone, you can
get your iPhone seventeen, right, you got to click on
all the things that you're agreeing to. We read you
know again. The parts that jumped out to me are
the X ray table, the hidden camera, the special contact lenses. Right,
that's the stuff. I'm like, dude, this is like a movie.
This stuff really exists. Unbelievable to the average fan, Like

(16:50):
of course the NBA. They're throwing games, they don't care,
doesn't matter, they're not reading any of these details. This
does I don't want to I don't know if I would.
The word are reparabules too, but it does a ton
of damage to what Chris Prefett is talking about the
credibility of the league. And that's that's a hard one

(17:11):
to come back from.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
This.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
From the NBA, we're in the process of reviewing the
federal indictments announced today. Terry Rogier and John Spilbs are
being placed on immediate lead from their teams. Will continue
to cooperate with the relevant authorities. We take these allegations
with the most seriousness, and the integrity of our game
remains a top priority. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (17:32):
This is the best of the Dog Dot Leap Show
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Booming Up America. Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Mm
mmmmm mmm mmmmmmmm. I hope you're having a great day.
The Doug Gottlieb Show broadcast live every single day, same
bat time, same bat channel, over twenty years. Roll now
so we've been doing We've been doing this for a minute,
but really, yeah, we have been doing this for a minute.

(18:06):
Whole crew is here, right, got our guy Dan Bayer,
J stew and of course, uh, the one and only
Iowa Sam uh huh uh huh. First night of the
NBA in the books. It's kind of fun, right, kind
of fun. And you know, there's there's industry things that

(18:31):
we talk about too much on radio, and there's you know,
it's like we've talked about the changing of announcers, the
changing of broadcast, broadcast networks. Let's just be honest. It
was a little bit weird to have to see the
Peacock and NBC UH broadcasting last night's games, and you know,

(18:54):
some of the tone and obviously Mike Turco just has
such a warm and inviting voice. But then you hear
you know, Reggie Miller, and you're like, wait a second,
I'm so used to hearing Reggie Miller usually with TNT,
and people don't pay that much attention to allow of
the play by play voices. It kind of feels like
the same thing. There was one difference. Michael Jeffrey Jordan

(19:16):
was involved. Now he's not at the desk. He's not
Charles Barkley, He's Jordan. He's doing his own thing. He's
sitting in a chair basically getting interviewed by Mike Jerico,
and that's how they're going to present him. And of
course he gave you one classic Jordan confident sort of
moment right where he talked about shooting a free throw

(19:40):
in front of some kids at some house that he rented.
And and you know, well, here's the story.

Speaker 7 (19:50):
Do youn't pick up a ball to shoot? I haven't
picked up a ball in years. Come on, just like
walk past. There's got to be a hoop somewhere at
your place. You don't see a hoop anywhere around here.
I don't. It's the last time you picked up a
basketball and shot.

Speaker 8 (20:06):
I was at the Ride a Cup. Yeah, And I
rented a house from uh from the owner. Sure, he
came over to do pictures and grandkids and I was
beating greet and thank him for allowing me to stay
in the house. And he had a basketball court. He says,
I want you to shoot one free throw. I said, really,

(20:28):
I already paid for the already paid for the house.
It's not likely you got to see me. So when
I stepped up to shoot your free throw. It's the
most nervous I've been in year.

Speaker 7 (20:38):
Stop it, in years, stop it come on.

Speaker 8 (20:41):
The reason being is those kids heard the stories from
the parents about what I did thirty years ago, right,
so the expectation is thirty years prior and I haven't
touched the basketball.

Speaker 9 (20:55):
I hope you switched it. Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
So there's the there's the Jordan Larry Bird of course,
I still got it. Kid. Sort of moment is the
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. So here's what
I want to do. I'm gonna give you a couple of
thoughts and then all of it. We all have thoughts
on this because I know we were on a little
group text chain and guys have different feelings about different things.

(21:20):
The first is it's brilliant to have Jordan involved. Back
when NBC had the NBA and the NBA was king,
it was because of Michael Jordan. So I know, you know,
Jay Steus said he saw it was forty million dollars
for him. It's worth every penny. It just is. It
brings automatic credibility to what you do, and I get

(21:41):
that magic Johnson was a complete has been a complete
waste of time with NBC. With ESPN when he's been broadcasting,
it doesn't bring credibility. I got it, but remember that
was with ESPN, who already had it, and they put
Magic Johnson up on the desk where he has to
be an analyst. And that's not what Magic Johnson does.
It's just not so for NBC. It it's just like

(22:08):
the reason that they they purchased back what's the song
called the hoop? Uh? What is that called? Round ball Rock?

Speaker 10 (22:18):
Right?

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Round Ball Rock? Actually Fox Sports FS one least the
rights to round Ball Rock, and then NBC bought it back.
And the whole reason you have, Jordan, the whole reason
you have round Ball Rock is to kind of wake
up those you know, memories in your mind of thirty
years ago, back when the NBA was king. It was great,

(22:42):
and then the actual product of the NBA last night
was also outstanding. And what happens with the NBA is
the same thing that's happened with baseball, and in some
ways it's converse to what's happened in the NFL. And Jason,
you yourself pointed out all the time, like anybody, the
NFL is almost laughing at the fact that we'll watch

(23:03):
any game, no matter how bad that Seattle game was
on Monday night, people are still gonna watch. Why it's
the NFL is like I got some money on I
got a fantasy football, I gotta watch it. But the
product is far inferior to the perception of the product.
Whereas in baseball, the perception is it's boring, it's slow,
it's unathletic, and it isn't as fast as the other

(23:25):
you know, hockey obviously, even but basketball and football. But
it's way fast as it used to be. It's way
more athletic than used to be, and it's really exciting.
The pitch clockworks, the new bases work, the new rules work,
and then it's brought back athleticism and rallies back into
the game. The same thing for the NBA. The perception
is they don't care. Perception is they don't play defense

(23:46):
and all they do is shoot threes. It's like a
bad old man pickup game. You dribble down and shoot
a three. Brother in law ball, meaning you don't guard me,
I don't guard you. And if you watched last night,
the defending NBA champion, Oklahoma City thunder. They were garden
the whole night, and Houston wasn't far behind. And the
game goes into you know, into overtime, and it's a

(24:08):
hard fought feels like a playoff game, unbelievable intensity. But
if you didn't watch, you're like, eh, they just shout
a bunch of threes and don't play hard until the
last five minutes of the game. We can pick apart
and talk about the broadcast, but I would say that
the actual game was a really good fun watch where
they it was the opposite of what you would assume.

(24:30):
Those teams played hard and played great defense and were
super super competitive. And as far as the NBC thing,
I think it's I just feel like it's one of
those we make a way, big, way bigger deal of
it then should actually be made. I do think that
when they get to some of the other networks, you know,

(24:50):
the Amazon Prime, they have so many people who have
never done TV before and their big names, I don't
think it'll be particularly good, much like Amazon's Thursday Night package,
which some guys have grown into being quality endless. Some
just aren't very good. But it's really hard when you
have all new people. I think Amazon run into this.
But NBC feels like Turner Light having Tariko, who's just

(25:13):
solid and steady, and whether you like or don't love
Reggie Miller, his voice is synonymous. And oh yeah, by
the way, the last time Reggie Miller was playing and
it was interesting was when Jordan played it well and
NBC had the rights had the rights byr What did

(25:36):
you think of Jordan's part of it?

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I did not see it live. I only consumed it
via social media. So the point that someone made on
social media, and I can't remember who it was, was
there's this whole excitement about Jordan being rolled out, and
is this just a sit down with him for three
hours and then going to play various segments throughout the year?

(26:00):
Like that was my question. Like I thought it was entertaining.
I thought it was put together very well. But if
this is we're going to see the same setup of
Toego at Jordan in January, just reminiscing or talking about
certain things, then I don't know if if that's what
we all thought it was going to be. But I

(26:20):
thought the three minutes that I saw I thought were entertaining.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
And then did you notice any difference in the actual
game broadcast.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
I looked at like the score bug was actually something
that I looked at. I'm like, all right, how does
this feel? I did get a little different sense. It
did feel like it was on network TV as opposed
to say ESPN or TNT. And I know it's easy
to take shots at ESPN for stuff, but I felt
that last night's game felt more like an event. And

(26:54):
I feel like sometimes ESPN's broadcast are this is what's
coming up after PTI, and so I felt like it
was a bigger, sort of sort of events last night.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
Jase do I saw the same thing Dan did on
social media, So either it was one person or it
was like an amalgamation of a lot of people, like
this is what the Jordan piece is. I had to check,
and he gets forty million bucks a year to do this.
Remember when it first came out that they were adding him,

(27:29):
my opinion was that it's going to diminish what his
reputation is if he's up there doing analysis work, Like
do we really want to see this mysterious guy who's
so cool, he's everything Lebron wants to be reputation wise?
Why would he go on TV and tarnish that by
giving us hot takes. I'm glad they're not doing that.

(27:50):
But to Dan's point, they're just going to cut up
interview segments with to Rico and paying forty million bucks.
The part that's incredible to me is that Twitter is
a cesspool. Twitter finds the negative in everything. If you
want to see something that you hate being bashed, you
go to Twitter. It runs like ninety nine percent positive

(28:14):
on Jordan last night. Everyone loved it. All the blue
check marks. They loved it. Love Jordan. I will call
BS on one thing. The interview opened this way.

Speaker 7 (28:25):
You let us bring a camera to to your place
here to talk to you about basketball.

Speaker 9 (28:29):
Why do you want to share what you're thinking about basketball?

Speaker 11 (28:31):
Now?

Speaker 10 (28:33):
It's pay it forward? You know, I have an obligation
to the game of basketball, not financially.

Speaker 9 (28:39):
I'm okay.

Speaker 10 (28:40):
I mean I think more or less from me from
as a basketball player is to be able to pass
on messages of success and dedication to the game of basketball.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
I think that sounds good. I think it's laughable, and
if you believe it, you're not smart. I think instead
of pay it forward, you should have said pay it
into my bank acou count. Uh So does motivations for
him be doing this, I think are waffable. He would
have done it much sooner. But that those are my thoughts.

Speaker 12 (29:10):
Uh, Sam, did you watch No, I didn't watch a
lick of basketball last night.

Speaker 10 (29:15):
I did.

Speaker 12 (29:15):
I did just catch the same clip that Dan was
talking about, and I do find it funny. Pay it
forward the forty million to me, pay it forward. No,
it'll be I agree with everybody's points. I think the
more than Michael Jordan opens his mouth will probably be like,
there'll be more you know, opinions swaying either way on him.
And in terms of Peacock's production, I've only seen football.

(29:36):
I love it, but I haven't seen any basketball yet.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
He's doing it for the for the same reason why
the last dance came out he has he has creative control.
I think he's gonna tell a story where he misses
a free throw like no, and then and then.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
That's that's a great that's a great point.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
So that's I Also, do you guys notice on the graphic,
because it was plainly obvious that the way that the
graphic is constructed, the Roman numeral of six is highlighted,
so you see this VI. I for the six championships.
You guys notice that, yes, yes, so again it's a reminder.

(30:17):
I've won six titles. So if you just look at
the graphic of what is it insights to whatever it
is on the bottom part. And even when the graphic
is put in motion, the VI that is formed from
the logo is highlighted. And so that to me tells
me all we need to know about why he's doing this.

(30:38):
This is a reminder. And Doug you tweeted, this is
my king hook line and sinker Doug's on the hook.
That's what this is about.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Totally Again, I'm just I could, I could, I could
try and like decipher it. Now I'm going to defend.
And we talked about this a little bit in the pod.
The POD's available at the top of the third hour
stug Outleb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. I point
out that George W. Bush, when he gets paid and

(31:08):
he gets paid a ton of money to go speak somewhere,
this is what he does. He sits on the couch
and somebody interviews him and he just tells stories. And
I actually think that's genius because of exactly what Jay
Sus said where put him on the desk, make him
analyze something, and that's hard, That is really really difficult.
Not what he does now, he's just being Michael Jordan.

(31:32):
And I'll also defend him with the forty million dollars
he's making. When you're Michael Jordan, you can't give you
can't give away, you can't give it up for free.
That's just you just cannot. Because the second it gets
out that Michael Jordan is doing something for half his
normal rate, then all of a sudden, all the vultures
are coming. Hey, you did it for NBC for you know,

(31:54):
way less than your normal rate. No, no, no, If
you want Michael Jordan, you have to pay Michael Jordan prices.
So I do not agree with you, Jay stew I
understand that he's sitting there going but he really doesn't
have to do it, doesn't have to do it. He's
just doing what Peyton Manning did with Peate man does
the same thing. He didn't want to broadcast games in booth.

(32:16):
He doesn't want to be in a desk, but he
wants to talk about football, wants to stay relevant, so
he does the Manning cast, and this is his way
of staying relevant, making money, being involved also continuing to
remind people I'm still the greatest of all time and
this is the network that is most associated with the
time in which I was great.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Yes, Dan, here's here's where the Jordan this is. I
wasn't a Jordan hater, just never was a Jordan fan.
Jordan wants this again that he's giving back to basketball.
The last dance videos were sat on for how many years?
Twenty two years before they were actually released, and we

(32:54):
have talked about why they were released at that point,
and it's because Lebron James was encroaching in on Jordan's
reign as possibly the greatest player ever. So now we
have this ten part documentary series. COVID was separate of that.
Like this thing was in the works, it was moved
up because of covid the release, but they were going
to release this ten part doc because Jordan finally gave

(33:15):
the okay to it. And he talks about giving back
to basketball. As the owner of the Charlotte Hornets, I
vividly remember their season starting and he mentioned the Ryder
Cup of Jordan being at a Ryder Cup when his
Hornets were starting a season at one point, and to me,
that was all right, where are your priorities?

Speaker 9 (33:33):
Then?

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Do you really want to be? You know, you're giving
back to basketball? May have been Let's make the Charlotte
Hornets an actual winner. Let's turn them into something. And
so that's why I always think this stuff is a
bit contrived when it comes to Jordan. I also sent
you guys the images on the group text of the
logo I saw.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
It's actually really cool. But again, these are the type
of things that make a guy of his ego super
excited about doing it. Hey man, check this out. It's
actually a really good touch. It's a really really good touch.
Speaking of pros. Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio,

Speaker 6 (34:21):
This is the best of the Don dot Leap Show
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. So Aaron
Glenn continues to dominate the New York headlines, and it's
about his handling of what seems to be kind of
reasonable questions, he has it named a starting quarterback for
this weekend's game. The Jets are winless. Their owner Woody

(34:52):
Johnson came out and said he completely supports the coach.
If they just had a quarterback, they could just complete
a pass. That's what he actually said. Here's a Jets
head coach Aaron Glenn this morning with the reporters when
he was asked about who will be his starting quarterback
this week if it.

Speaker 13 (35:11):
Was a game today, he is limited, all right today,
and he is questionable.

Speaker 9 (35:18):
And I like the way those guys are trended. So
are you able to tell us who's gonna see? I
cannot tell you that. But is it because you don't
want to?

Speaker 13 (35:26):
Because that's exactly it Tyro's situation and questions.

Speaker 9 (35:30):
Isn't that answer this? Potentially?

Speaker 13 (35:32):
That's exactly why I'm not telling you because I.

Speaker 9 (35:34):
Don't want to.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
I understand that, But I mean, is it partly because
of the injuries?

Speaker 13 (35:40):
Exactly why I'm saying it because I don't want to.
I don't know how many times I got to answer
you that it's not gonna.

Speaker 9 (35:46):
Change you do virus? Is that's gonna be between men players?

Speaker 1 (35:56):
I don't understand this, this tactic. I do you understand
the not sharing personal information or in house information with
the team. I mean with reporters, like you don't have
to his health, We don't have to, but just the
defiance of I don't want to, so I'm not going to.
Just so we're aware, there is a moment in which

(36:18):
he has to name a starter, and he will name
a starter. It won't be a game time decision because
it's not really the way it's supposed to work. And
at some point he's going to get fined by the
NFL because the gamblers, the fantasy football players need to
know who's starting. It should matter nobody has. If you
have either of those two on your fantasy football team,
your fantasy football team is not doing well. But it

(36:40):
can affect the betting lines over unders and of course
a lot of other prop bets. Let's just cut to
brass tacks. If Justin Fields was their starter, and there
was no question, he would answer it as such. It's
no different than if you've been dating a woman for

(37:01):
like a year and you're an adult and somebody goes, hey,
she the one You're like, ye, maybe then she's not right.
Then she's not if she's the one you're like, yeah, like, well,
are you guys gonna be Remember, well, you know she's
still she's you know, she's getting a master's or she's

(37:24):
she's got her kids and we want to wait said
timing's not right whatever, but yeah, I mean what yeah, well,
I mean we woul day in a year now like
we kind of you either know or you don't know.
And right now everyone knows that the Jets are going
to be in the quarterback market next year in the
off season, just like hey, who said that? Oh that
was this guy, that was this guy. It's two years

(37:47):
in a row where I could tell you that Russell
Wilson justin Field's would not be the starting quarterback at
their respective teams at the end of the season, and
those respective teams would be looking for another quarterback at
latest at the end of the season. Happened already with
the Giants, and how happening with the Jets. For for forty years,
Tyrak has been helping customers from the right tires for how,

Speaker 1 (38:26):
Chargers twenty seven yards Lad mccaucky. The Chargers were going
on to win thirty seven to ten. The Chagos statline
for Justin Herbert did have a pick eighteen of twenty
five three touchdowns one reception. Kamani Vidal ends up with
unbelievable knight for a guy who wasn't even in the

(38:48):
conversation right with the Chargers start of the year three
twenty three rushes one hundred and seventeen yards and Lad
McConkey six catches, ten targets. It seemed like he was there.
It seemed like he was there. Uh, Cooper Rush, that's
what we seem like, like just always open, always open,

(39:10):
Cooper Cup. Did I think that the the the rushes
and the flags and the cups, I'm getting my Cooper's,
I'm getting my Cooper's confused by er, you are a
uniform police. There was one notable change to the charger,
the charger navies, and I did like those evers in
the charger Navy uniforms. Did you like the number on

(39:31):
the helmet?

Speaker 3 (39:33):
Yeah, I just thought that the outline on that helmet
without having the numbers outlined, would have looked a lot better.
It's not as noticeable on the white helmet that the
numbers aren't outlined, but it did. I did notice it
on the Navy. So the lightning bolt has an outline
to it, but the numbers didn't. And that's what messed

(39:53):
with me a little bit.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
It's Doug Gottliep Show here on Fox Portraity. Mark Dominic
joins us as he joins us every week here on
the show. Here's a guy spent his entire professional career
from scouting working his way up to the front office
as general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And look,
I know that the kid is hurt, but I think
generally most people have been underwhelmed by JJ McCarthy. And

(40:16):
then you know, Carson Wentz is a backup and now
he's the back of for a reason, playing hurt last night.
But I can't help but think Minnesota, they chose poorly, right.
You had Sam Donald you had even before you had
Sam Donald, right, you had, Uh, why why am I blanking? Oh,
Kirk cousins, Kirk Cousins, And now you have JJ McCarthy

(40:39):
who can't stay healthy and isn't great. Did they hurt
themselves trying to go to the rookie quarterback or the
second year quarterback in his rookie year.

Speaker 11 (40:50):
Well, I mean, obviously everything's unfortunate. I don't feel quite
as distraught over JJ McCarthy yet. I know the numbers
aren't great, and I know it's really been the one
quarter that's kind of caught people's attention. But I do
think of a guy that's only thrown just over forty
passes in the NFL in his career, there's a lot
of room for development still, and so you know, I

(41:11):
still hold out the hope or the belief that I
think JJ can be a good and starting quarterback in
the Nation Foot League and that the Vikings will will
be on the right side of history on this. I'm
going to stay on that right now, at least, Doug.
But I I you know, it's it's amazing because the
other guy that you said, Carson Wentz, used to, you know,
be mister popular too, and it's just never quite found
that right home for him either. And you look at

(41:33):
this Minnesota team and although they're you know, three and four,
it'll be interesting to get JJ back next week and
see what they can do going forward, just because I
think when you look at them as a as a team,
and you certainly you think about the hopes of the
playoffs and what they had last year. They've got a
couple of games coming up here in Detroit and Baltimore
the next two weeks that are really going to tell
us a lot about JJ, but also tell us for

(41:54):
the season is going to end up.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
I want to play for you some. This is earlier today.
So Aaron Glenn has been doing the thing about not
naming a starter. He's got Tarrod Taylor who's come back
from injury. He's got justin fields where I don't know
if you heard the sound Woody Johnson said, if we
could just complete a pass right like wow, you know
that's not what you want to say about a quarterback

(42:16):
you gave two years guaranteed to. But take a listen
to Aaron Glenn earlier today. I want to get your
thoughts on this. If it was a game today?

Speaker 13 (42:26):
He is limited, all right today, and he is questionable.
And I like the way those guys are trended.

Speaker 9 (42:31):
So are you able to tell us who's gonna I
cannot tell you that. But is it because you don't
want to?

Speaker 13 (42:37):
Because that's exactly it Puyro's situational questions.

Speaker 9 (42:41):
Isn't that answer this? Potentially? That's exactly why I'm not
telling you because I don't want to. I understand that,
But I mean, is it? Is it partly because of
the injuries?

Speaker 13 (42:51):
Exactly why I'm saying it because I don't want to.

Speaker 9 (42:55):
I don't know how many.

Speaker 13 (42:55):
Times I got to answer you that it's not gonna change.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
You do I'm myers?

Speaker 9 (43:00):
You know who that's going to be between man players.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
I mean, I get that he has his owner's support
as of now. I don't understand the why to be
that way towards the New York media. Of all medias
that you don't want to antagonize for no apparent reason
when you haven't won a game, the New York media
would be one of them. What are your thoughts though,
as a former general manager when you hear that back

(43:24):
and forth?

Speaker 11 (43:26):
Well, I mean, I do I understand where the coach
is coming from and banged up or not, you know,
trying to figure out exactly what the answer is. I don't.
I don't blame the coach. I don't have as big
a problem with this. I do understand your zero to seven.
And the truth is nothing looks really great. I mean,
the Buys going to make the season seem even longer
after they play the Bengals this week. And so I
think the most important thing, like you said, is and

(43:48):
I think what he will stay with Aaron Glenn as
the head coach. I don't. I don't think Aaron Glenn.
I wouldn't move on from him this quickly, even if
a one and done, and we sadly seen that too
many times the National Football League. If I'm going to
give Aaron Glenn any you know, punishment, it's for Justin Fields, Doug,
you and I talked about it many times. And you know,
if you're surprised that Justin Fields isn't a great starter,

(44:13):
than shame on you. I mean that's I mean, he's
he's had opportunities, he's flashed in moments, but he's never
shown consistency to expect him to suddenly like now I'm
going to be good. And in addition, when you look
at the Jets and the revolving doors on the offensive line,
some of that's you know, justin fields in terms of
the way he plays, but some of that's you know,
Tyro Dayor has been sacked almost ten times in less
than seventy attempts. So that offensive line is a disaster.

(44:35):
It's just I know they've got some resources dedicated to it.
I think some of those guys are coming around, but
it's it's just bad. And I know that you're throwing
a little more gas in on the fire, but I
think Aaron's probably behind the scenes gaining some traction with
the team that he thinks will be there long term.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
Mark dominic Our guests here on the Doug Gottlieb Show
on Fox Sports Radio. I want to get Daron Rodgers
because he's taken on this former team and that's gonna
be a story that dom it's the weekend. But I
want to ask you about Jordan Love before that, the
up and down in terms of the perception of Jordan
Love right where you go back a couple of years

(45:12):
ago and you know it wasn't going to be the
fifth year option. It was going to be a little money.
Then he comes back, plays well, they give him a
gigantic extension. He's been good. But I guess my question
to you is, as a guy who's evaluated that position
for a living for twenty five years, is he like

(45:35):
now we have enough to go on? What do you
think of Jordan Love and how good he actually is.

Speaker 11 (45:40):
Yeah, I've been I've been on the board with Jordan
Love for a while and as we've kind of talked
to Jordan, you know, I've been a buyer and a
believer and I still am. I just I like the
way he plays the game. I like his decision making.
He's clearly playing well now. And to think of all
that with a Matthew Golden that's not producing at all

(46:01):
in their assistant right, he's barely He's third or fourth
on the team and receptions and Dobbs is the one
that to really kind of stepped up a little bit.
I just I think the offensive line is very good there.
That's a big key to its same thing I've talked
about the Colts and while the culture being successful, the
offensive line, but Jordan Love as a quarterback and competitor,
I'm a fan of and I know that he's had

(46:22):
a little bit of a roller coaster, but I've stayed
on the track with this one. I just felt like
once he's shown me that he can, you know, dial
in which he has been able to do and make
plays all of the field with his arm talent, let
alone just being a solid scrambler and runner with the football.
I don't see the downside in Jordan Love. I think
he's good enough to win you a Super Bowl. I
think he's that good of a quarterback. And I think

(46:43):
the surrounding cast has stepped up a little bit in
Tucker Craft. You know, I thought that maybe Luke Musgrave
would have a bigger role, but in the running game
he is. And that's why they're having such success, you know,
in the red zone and pounding the ball in with
Jeff with Jacobs.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
The Colts have the Titans this week, which you got
to feel prett good about right then they got the
Steelers on the road, but the Steels will be coming
off a game they're going all in on, then the
Falcons at home, then a bye week. They're at six
and one. I watched them against the Chargers, and I now,
I thought they were pretty good I thought they were
really well coached, especially obviously offensively. But I mean, like, look,

(47:20):
I look at those wins that they have this year,
and with the exception of the Chargers, which is a
big win, Cardinals, eh Raiders not particularly good, Titans fired
their coach, Broncos pretty good, but it was really as
one point. And the Dolphins, who stink right stink? So
how good are the Colts in your mind?

Speaker 11 (47:38):
Yeah, I think they're good, but I think it's one
of those ones where they might end up with a
two seed or a three seed. You know, when you
look at their schedule, They've got Jacksonville still twice you
talked about the Titans, Atlanta, the Texans that have to
find their way. They don't see the Texans yet, so
there's more wins in here. But I think it's going
to be a two or three seed in the AF

(48:00):
and I think there'll be one and done. I think
they're a good football team. I think you bring up
a great point, and I think that's real is that
you know, we'll see as they play the Kansas City Chiefs,
when they play the San Francisco forty nine ers how
good they are. But they're really not going to be
heavily tested until they get to the postseason, and then
it's just a matter of, you know, where's their health
and everything, and how's Jonathan Taylor doing. But I think

(48:21):
they're a good football team. I think they're deserving to
be in first place. When you put you know, almost
forty points or thirty five points a game on the board,
you deserve to be where you are in terms of
the standings. But you know, I think every Colts fan
would say, hey, look, this is much that I anticipated,
but will also have holding their breath in the postseason
going which team will show up. Is it going to
be the one that's you know, played well all season
long but has beaten, to your point, the Tennessee Titans,

(48:43):
Or is it the one that showed up and beat
the Denver Broncos. We too, I'm leaning towards you know,
they're going to make the postseason, but I don't see
a run here.

Speaker 1 (48:52):
Aaron Rodgers is going to take it on his former team.
He's looked more and more comfortable as the year has
gone on. But last time we saw him was Ors
Night Football. He wasn't great yelled at some of his dudes.
Defense was was awful. Uh, he's taken a different than normal.
Aaron Rodgers tacked this week of being a fuse in
his praise of his time in Green Bay and saying

(49:14):
he wants to retire at Green Bay Packer. What do
you that's that's not kind of classic a rod if
you will, why the why the turn?

Speaker 11 (49:22):
That's good?

Speaker 4 (49:23):
You know.

Speaker 11 (49:23):
I think I think Aaron understands that this might be
the last year, Like this might be the last one,
and so let's not go out as a bully. Let's
go out as as a guy that you know, appreciates
what the Packers did and and all the opportunity you
have there in the Super Bowl Championship and all those
different things. And so I think it's a mature Rogers
to do that, to be able to walk and play
in Lambeau and and have that that opportunity. But I

(49:47):
think that when you well, you're gonna be at to
actually the games at Pittsburgh excuse me, but the chance
to play and say that you want to be a
team that drafted you and and end up in the
Ring of Honor in the Hall of Fame and go
in that way, I think it's great, and I think
it just speaks that he's I think he's maturing it
understanding again, he's building bridges as he sews up by
what I think is going to be his last season
in the NFL regardless, and I think it's a smart

(50:09):
move by him.

Speaker 1 (50:11):
What happened to their past rush and it was non
existent last week?

Speaker 11 (50:14):
Yeah, that was hard for me to understand because I
feel like that's been one of the keys to the
Pittsburgh Steelers all year long, has been able to get
to the quarterback, whether it's the two starters or it's
Herbic and you know, usually they find a way, but
this last week they just couldn't have an answer for
Joe Flacco and certainly Jamar Chase. And so I think
that that's I think that will change. I don't think
that's the norm for the Pittsburgh Steelers at all. I

(50:36):
think there'll be a much better team getting after the
quarterback this week than they than they did before. But
I think the Steelers defense still should be especially the
front seven, the strength of that team. And I would expect,
you know that TJ. Watt will show up a lot
more in this game. And again Nick Herbig to me
and Alex High Smith. When you have those three going,
they should get home and I think they will.

Speaker 1 (50:57):
Giants get another shot at the Eagles. And the Giants,
I mean had a commanding lead and just split up
a game last week against Denver Broncos. But you go
back a couple weeks ago and on Thursday Night Football,
they smashed the Philadelphi Eagles. How different will this game be? Well?

Speaker 11 (51:16):
A good thing for the Eagles, I think, and just
for them to be able to walk in this game
is they have a lot more tape now and I
think that's going to be the big thing with Jackson
Dart is to be able to start to look for
tendancies and see how can you take advantage of it
or what do you expect from him instead of kind
of being one of the first season gets to take
him on full time and I think that's a big deal.
So I mean that's where I think the fangio, the

(51:37):
defensive coordinator there, with all of his experience, we'll try
to take advantage of that. My big thing for Jackson
Dart is that he's got to learn how to play
for the next play. I don't think you can play
with his aggressiveness and stay healthy for an entire season.
So I hope I can watch a guy that's willing
to get down maybe understands when to slide a little
bit sooner. But I don't feel as confident that this

(51:59):
game is going to go the same. I have a
lot more confidence than where I think Philadelphia learned that
game instead of the confidence of Giants are starting to
play with their young quarterback.

Speaker 1 (52:07):
I it's it's gonna be really interesting to see how
that evolves after people get get that film on him,
and how and who adjusts otherwise and what are the adjustments?
Like are you I'm I'm of the mindset I'm to
people who thought the Brian Schottenheim or hire was a

(52:29):
bad one, They're wrong. Now their defense isn't particularly good, okay,
but they're three and three. They trade away Micah Parsons.
We knew their defense wasn't gonna be great if they
had Michael Parsons. Am I crazy saying Jerry might have
got this one right?

Speaker 11 (52:43):
Well? It feels from an offensive standpoint when you you
got a team here that's put forty points on the
board three times already to the season, and you know,
I think they'll have a lot of opportunities to do
that again. So from an offensive standpoint, you should be
very correct. I think you are correct. You know, it's
tough when you lose a game like to the Pan
there's you know the way they did, but you know
that's a big win against the Commanders. That's probably the

(53:05):
one team that right now the season ended, isn't in
the postseason. You scratch your head in the NFC, go
wait a second, the Commanders aren't even in the postseason.
And so I got to give credit to Dallas that
you know, the Yes, they're at that five hundred records
with the tie, and we'll see how they play at
Denver this week. You know, it's going to be a
great opportunity for them to continue to you know, put
victories on and for some reason, you know, the Dallas

(53:26):
Cowboys the Commanders are probably the two teams the NFC
that you know aren't officially in the playoffs, but you
feel like at least one of them will. If you've
already beat Washington once, you got a chance to be
that team. If you can just get you know, I
think because of the bye or the excuse me, the tie,
I think if you get the ten wins I think
the Dallas Cowboys are.

Speaker 1 (53:42):

first game of the year Egles Cowboys thought would be
a blowout. Thought the Cowboys be the laughing sock of
the league. They're not great, but they're definitely not the
laughing stock of the league. Mark, you're the best man.
Have a great weekend. Thanks so much for being our guest.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
