Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio and Johnny Ramos making
it a boom boom boom Wednesday here on Fox Sports Radio.
Oh man, we we've got things cooking. And thanks thank
goodness Jonas for the Knicks and the Washington Redskins for

(00:22):
putting the fun in this function. Okay, because it just continues,
continues and continues. And while it may seem like we
are the ones who are reaping the benefits from all
of this in the Redskins case specifically, it seems like
the rest of the NFL is benefiting in what is
going on in the nation's capital. I'll let me make

(00:44):
this perfectly clear. When we when we pile on the
Redskins and we talk about the mistakes that they've made
and the disaster that they've been, I don't want anybody
to to think that I'm not grateful for the opportunities
they give us, all right, Like, I want that to
be known. Many people in sports media will complain about
this stuff, and they'll just talk about how dysfunctional they are.

(01:05):
And I can't believe We've got to talk about this
sort of stuff. Uh, it beats a lot of other
things we could be talking about, right now I got
news for you. There's not a whole lot going on.
So when the Redskins continue to amaze you with dysfunction,
you just thank them for it and then you ride
the wave. I love hearing stories as we get closer
to training camp, and there was there was one out
today and I apologize for not getting the source. It

(01:27):
may have been the money MMQB dot Com or Sports Illustrated,
but Matt Ryan was talking about how they made the
play to win the Super Bowl. Okay, and I'm sitting
there thinking to myself, you know, the Falcons are one
of the most intriguing. I think they're actually the most
intriguing team going into the season. And then I thought
to myself, what the heck am I talking about? Okay,

(01:47):
things are going good for the Falcons. They made it
to the Super Bowl. We want the drama and the
mess that is going to be Kirk Cousins and what
is happening with the Washington Redskins. What is going to
happen with Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys all of
these other problems and and now the Washington Redskins are
going to have to go forward. We think with Kirk
Cousins for a year and then that's it, and all

(02:10):
those other teams that we may want to say are
the most intriguing or could have an interesting season, or
maybe looking ahead to because there are reports now that
teams are lining up trying to figure away to try
to sign Kirk Cousins once he hits free agency come
next year. And then all of a sudden, next year's
off season, you've got all the quarterbacks that are coming

(02:31):
out of the draft, whether it's Josh Allen or Rosen
or Sam Donald potentially, and then you've got Kirk Cousins
also floating out there on the open market. And then
you've still got the Jimmy Garoppolo conversation. So listen, I'm
not trying to look too far ahead. But all I'll
say is this, our topics are covered for next off season.
We are good to go in the quarterback room. But

(02:52):
and we're gonna catch up with Alex Marvez, Fox Sports Radio,
NFL Insider and about fifteen minutes from now here on
fs are And I'm curious us to see how it
plays out. Does he get still get dealt We saw
the same thing happen with Sam Bradford last year where Radford,
you know, after the Eagles made the decision to draft
Carson once it was later in the off season that

(03:13):
Bradford got dealt. The compensation coming back is another issue altogether,
But it just leads me to a bigger question. And
maybe I'm just not smart, and maybe I don't know
anything about the NFL. If clearly you're not sure if
you want the guy, and clearly he's pretty sure he
doesn't want you long term, and you know that there

(03:35):
are teams out there that would like to have him,
whether it be the Rams because of the tie with
Sean McVeigh and who knows how Jared Goff's gonna work
out the Niners and a link to Kyle Shanahan. There's
a bunch of teams out there that would love to
have Kirk Cousins. Why the hell haven't you traded him?
Like what are you waiting for? I don't understand. I
don't know how to to describe crazy, because that's what

(03:59):
I think the Washington Redskins doing this and May and
it's tough to it's tough to lay out what the
plans were. I have no idea either, Jonas looking at
how things are going to play out if they just
wanted to be the Redskins and and deal with Kirk
Cousins in this way, if they think they actually have
a legitimate shot at winning a Super Bowl, which I

(04:19):
don't think they do, and I don't think anybody else
thinks that Washington is going to be the team in
Super Bowl fifty two representing the NFC in Minneapolis. I
don't think that that's realistic. So then you're, yeah, what
what is your plan? Where are you going? Sure, you're
taking on a new face with that, you bring in Terrell.
Prior in free agency, you lost some receivers like Pierre

(04:40):
Garsan and de Sean Jackson, so you've got some new
blood there. I'm just not really sure of the direction
of the Washington Redskins. And that's at all the other positions,
let alone the most important one of just maybe getting
something in return. I mean, if if Cleveland really wanted
Kirk Cousins during the draft, they had enough ammunition that
I think they would be able to make the Washington
Redskins sattisfied, even if the asking price was very little,

(05:03):
because it also could have been just a one year
rental for the Cleveland Browns. If Kirk Cousins ended up
then going to free agency after next season. Oh, I forgot.
I forgot that they signed Terrell Prior. Think about that
they're big wide receiver. Edition in the off season was
a quarterback about an hour and a half ago. What
a train, wren Man. I look, I like to look

(05:24):
forward with this as well, because the redsk the Redskins
messed it up. You compare it to Paul George, right,
I mean, like the where the Indiana Pacers ended up
just being like, all right, we've got to deal him.
We have at least got to get something in return
for all of this, and the Washington Redskins didn't do it.
The future of Paul George is going to be interesting

(05:46):
in the NBA, where we think we know he's going
likely to the Lakers, but maybe if the thunder wind,
maybe if something else pulls him a different way, who knows.
But the future of Kirk Cousins, in my mind, is
completely wide open. And I don't think that San Francisco
iss foregone of a conclusion if you're trying to get
in the running for the Cousin sweepstakes, because there are

(06:09):
other areas of of teams that that could be on
the verge of contention with veteran quarterbacks that could be
looking down that road, and and to have this all
in our laps, this could have been one of the
this could be one of the most intriguing free agent
decisions that we've had in the last five or tenures.
And then you've got an organization who goes on record
when's the last time you saw an owner and and

(06:31):
again this unit was touched on a couple of days ago,
But when's the last time you saw an owner go
go public with a statement saying, hey, we did our
best and basically tried to throw his quarterback under the bus.
But you know, he just wanted more and he wanted this,
and we we did everything we could. It's it's so
obvious how this whole thing is going to end and

(06:52):
how how this thing is going to turn out. So
that's why I just I don't understand why if you're Washington,
you don't take, you know, something from what you've seen
in the NBA to where if you're gonna lose a player,
you deal him. You're trying to at least get something
for him. You see the Major League Baseball sometimes to
where hey, trade deadlines coming up. You're gonna lose a
guy in the off season, you deal him, you try

(07:14):
and get something back for him. I just I don't
understand the thinking. They're in Washington and if I'm a
Redskins fan and I'm in d C, I'm looking around
going you can make the case that of all the
teams in the NFC East were the only ones that
got worse this offseason, We're the only ones that got worse,
and we weren't a playoff team a year ago. I

(07:35):
don't I just don't know how this is all gonna
end up. I it all goes back to really what
happened in February, and it's not having a plan. I mentioned. Okay,
you go grocery shopping, John Ramos, do you go grocery
shopping with Susann or does she do the shopping? We
do both. Yes, Okay, when you go grocery shopping, okay,
without a plan, you will buy some of the craziest

(07:57):
things in the world. We're almost not a ginger you know,
Like then you go home and you've got too full
small bottles of ginger that you had no reason to buy.
You're all over the place that's what the Redskins ended
up doing, okay, because they didn't have any direction this
off season, starting with the Scott McCluin situation, which we've
talked about. There was no direction on where this team

(08:20):
was going. Hey, we lost Pierre garsonat Sean Jackson, Trell Prior.
All right, let's get the fish sticks. Why not? You know,
I like fish I haven't had fish sticks in about
a year. Let's bring him in. There's no directions. There's
no direction on what you're doing. And that's where the
issue that it goes back to what what has happened
the entire offseason for Washington with the dysfunction in their

(08:43):
front office. I have no idea what their plan is,
and now their plan has led them to a dead
end road because Kirk Cousins likely has gone. There are
very few trading partners that I think would be would
be willing to at least give up for just one
season because of his impending free agents. By the way, um,
when's the last time you had fish sticks? Um? It

(09:04):
was probably within the past. Well not the actual sticks.
I get the filet Okay. I was gonna say, like
the fish sticks, like the last time I've seen those
even anywhere. Was on the movie Summer Rental when they
when when John Candy shows up there and they go
Scullies Catch of the Day and they bring up these
fish cats and fish fish sticks are like Vandy cab
fish stakes. Gordon's what do you go? What's your offish

(09:28):
with the guy that has the yellows? Basically he looks
like one of those guys off Deadliest Catch, except he's
not a heroin addict. Sorry, no, did you know that that?
You know that all of the fish from Gordon's is
caught by the Brenda. That's a that's a new boat
on deadliest catch over the last couple of seasons there

(09:51):
to go cod fishing last this past year because of
the issues with the boat. Just keeping you up to
date on the deadliest catch. Yeah, there it is a
look that's more more, more less dysfunction than the Washington
Redskins have ad over the last offseason. You need a
plan and they don't have one. And now other teams
in the NFL, guess what, They are already making a
plan for next year for Kirk Cousins and it's not

(10:13):
necessarily San Francisco. I look at Arizona. Let's say Arizona's
all of Usson says, you know what, we're moving on
from Carson Palmer and we need a new quarterback. Guess
what if you're Kirk Cousins, why not go to that
team with that defense? What about the Saints? If Drew
Brees ends up moving on there, you could go to
New Orleans. If the Jared Goff situation doesn't work out
in l A this next year, two years in, you

(10:37):
know he's on a rookie deal. Maybe you really want
to make it imprint. Now that the Chargers are in town,
maybe you go after Kirk Cousins. There They're gonna be
a lot of different suitors and a lot of different
types of suitors than just the San Francisco forty niner
is going after Kirk Cousins. And by the way, all
Rams fans listening right now in the I Heart Radio
app and and RAM fans that can be very defensive sometimes,
John Ramos, Uh, If you think that, then walking away

(10:59):
from Ared Goff after year two is just not possible whatsoever.
Remember that Sean McVeigh didn't draft Jared Goff. That's something
guy that he wanted, all right. He he he's the
incumbent there. It doesn't mean that he wants to move
forward with him. He would feel much more comfortable with
Kirk Cousins, a guy who he had the best, best
stats and best members of his career and played the

(11:20):
best throughout his career with Kirk Cousins and and the
Sean McVeigh combination. So yeah, I just did. I'll be
fascinated to see what Alex Marvez says compensation wise and
the possibility of whether or not kirk Cousins gets dealt.
Even now with the off season, you know, concluding you're
coming up in here's what is going to be interesting
as well as this all plays out. If because you

(11:41):
mentioned the draft class earlier with the two josh Is
and and maybe Sam Donald, when you look at those
three guys and if you're picking in the top three,
but you have an opportunity to land kirk Cousins, what
do you do and and that that's going to be
a decision. In my mind, I go with the young kids.
I'd rather take the draft the salary less early on.

(12:05):
But if you are a team like the Rams that
could lose and end up picking in the in the
top three, if you're a team that is looking for
a quarterback, like the Jets in the top three, if
you're the forty Niners, um, those are the decisions that
they're gonna have to make. He is Dan Buyer. I'm
Jonas Knocks. We're in for Doug Gottlie today here on

the Jonas Knocks. But up next though, we will find
out the likelihood of a major trade in the NFL
offseason yet to come, and we'll get the info from
our NFL insider next year on Fox Sports Radio. This
is the Doug Godlib Show on Fox Sports Radio b

(13:10):
k R edition. He's Jonas Knox, that's Johnny Ramo, sim
Dan Buyer, Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins, and let's
just be honest, the other teams. Maybe that's more realistically
about about ten I'd say, all interested in what could
be happening after Super Bowl fifty two and we haven't
even started the season yet. As his free agency, the

(13:33):
issue of Peyton Manning was brought up when he hit
free agency. When he was released by the Colts, it
was different because there were only certain teams he was
really interested in playing for, right okay, and you were
only going to have him for a certain amount of time.
Kirk Cousins is different. Kirk Cousins is a guy that
I think has a wider range of options to go

(13:54):
to and doesn't necessarily have to go to a team
that is ready to win right away or could be
one on the verge of a Super Bowl and would
have more years available to play. So his free agency,
I think it's even more intriguing than what Peyton Manning
had to deal with about five or six years ago,
just because of the fact that the matter is is
Peyton was only going to go to maybe three or
four teams Max Well, and I think also the fact

(14:16):
that Kirk Cousins, you know, I didn't have a neck
that almost fell off the year before, but that neck
that almost fell off then had a record breaking unfl
season a couple of years after that. It's it's amazing
to see that the during that run, the Dolphins, Cardinals, Titans,
kind of Jonas and the Broncos were really the teams

(14:38):
that that we're in on the Peyton stuff. I don't
know how realistic Tennessee was, but the and and maybe
not the Cardinals as well, because it seems like you
wanted to be remain the a f C. But Kirk Cousins,
as we mentioned, could go to the Rams with the
Sean McVeigh connection if they want to give up on
Jared Goff, could go and that seemed division and go
to the Cardinals if they end up wanting to move

(14:59):
on for Carson Palmer with the defense that I think
is just going to be magnificent for the for the
next couple of years. And they're just a lot of
different places that Kirk Cousins could go. So his options
are going to be wide open when he hits free
agency next season. Yeah, And I also wonder if there's
because teams around the NFL look at this and I
think maybe they also go, well, it's not going well

(15:21):
there in Washington. He clearly isn't happy there. The Redskins
don't want him there. Why would we trade for him?
Like we've got all the leverage, you know, when Paul
George comes out and says that he doesn't want to
be an Indiana Pacer or any or that he's not
going to be with the Pacers, that he's you know,
cons you know, interested in being in l A to
be a member of the Lakers. Why would teams around
the NFL trade when you know that guy is going

(15:42):
to be available in the off season. Yeah, and the
Redskins are in a bad spot. That's why you gotta
take what you can get. I'm sorry. And I think
that there's no guarantee that if Kirk Cousins, if you
trade for Kirk Cousins for this season and the hopes
of him bringing um or becoming familiar with your organization,
that's difficult to do without a training camp or what
would be much of a training camp. Of a deal

(16:04):
didn't get done going into a system that you're not
necessarily familiar with. It could actually do more harm than
good with not only losing the the compensation that you
would give up to Washington for him, but the fact
this is the experience may not be as great because
not everything is fully invested. You didn't have Kirk Cousins
there for an entire off season doing O T A. S.

(16:24):
You didn't have them there for a training camp. You
just put him in a system where maybe the other
ten guys on offense don't have any clue and and
understand his rhythms and and the moves that he makes.
So there's there's a lot to go with it that that,
you know, your point about the Redskins just really messing
this up from from the get go and not dealing him,
whether it be leading up to this past week or
not dealing him before the draft, or not doing a

(16:46):
trade earlier than that. Those are the issues that that
the Washington is now having to face down the road.
Do you think Jake Gruden's feeling right about now? Yeah? Like,
hey guys, um, I have no problem building the house here.
Um can I get some tools? I just get anything.
Jake grun knew what he was getting into. And that's

(17:08):
why I think, like I don't feel bad for certain
coaches that take certain jobs when things don't go their way,
because when the same things happen over and over again
within those organizations, there's you've got to say to yourself, Okay,
I knew this was coming in, and I knew this
could be the case coming in. Why would I be
any different? Why would they treat Jake Gruden any different

(17:30):
than they treated Mike Shanahan or Jim Jim'sorn, or Marty
Schottenheimer or all the various other Steve Spurrier different situations.
But I mean, you just go down the line of
ten years that didn't end successfully in Washington, and you
could keep going and going and going. And that's why
that's why with Jake Gruden, I don't necessarily feel bad

(17:52):
because you knew what you were getting into being had
coach in the NFL. Yeah, one of the thirty two jobs.
There's only thirty two of them, that's right, But some
are a little bit more or advantageous than others. And
that's also why, and we were talking about this before
the show, but when you look at it, if if
you're the if you're a top pick in the draft,
Like if you're number one or number two in the draft,
that's more of an organizational type pick because you're thinking

(18:13):
about the face of the franchise. You're there's a lot
of money invested, more money invested in that. But when
it comes to the third the fourth round picks, those
are more coaching and scouting. You know, you saw these guys,
there's something about him you like, and so that's more
of a coaching staff pick. And that played out perfectly
in Washington because r G three was a Dan Snyder pick.

(18:34):
I mean that is everybody knows that. That's the worst
kept secret in sports. R G three was totally a
Dan Snyder pick. Kirk Cousins was a Shanahan pick. Shanahan
was on The Herd with Colin Cowherd here on Fox
Sports Radio several months ago, and he said, part of
the reason I'm not in Washington anymore is because I
really believed in Kirk Cousins. He was always a believer

(18:55):
in Kirk Cousins over r G three, but he had
to play nice because Dance and I Or was the boss.
And so I think part of this as well, too,
is maybe a little stubbornness on Dan Snyder not wanting
to acknowledge that he got this one wrong, that the
guy that he wanted around the whole time ended up
not being the guy after all. And and the one
that he's going to have to pay millions and millions
and millions of dollars even more so than he already has,

(19:18):
is the guy that he never believed in that the
previous coach that he fired took in the fourth round.
And so I think there's ego at playing this also
in Dan Snyder's right at the right at the front
of it. There's also this happens at any job across
the country when you are pigeonholed into what you are,
and even though you may have started out in the
mail room and you have moved your way up, the

(19:41):
fact is there could be higher ups that only will
look at you as the guy who was in the
mail room, and Dan Snyder and the Washington Redskins may
only look at Kirk Cousins as the fourth round pick
and maybe the guy that didn't let r G three
flourish because that's who they wanted to be the guy
and that he ended up ruining it. And they're ruining it,
and they're always going to have this bad taste in

(20:03):
the mouth. The fact of the matter is the ship
is sailed. Now, now you've got to figure out how
do you get through the next five months and is
it really worth if you wanted, if you wanted to
pay that that that crazy amount of money, which I
don't think that they would want to do, how do
you then move on from there? But now we're almost
in a in a holding pattern until we start to
find out what the future is because I just don't

(20:24):
think anybody is going to bring him in and I'm
not sure what would satisfy you know, Bruce Allen and
Dan Snyder for bringing something back for You're never gonna
get fair value for him. It's never gonna happen. It's
why everybody mocked Indiana, and they mocked the Chicago Bulls
for what they got back for Jimmy Butler and Paul George.
When you when it's a superstar, you're never going to

(20:45):
get equal value for it. It's like the second you
drive a new car off the lot, it loses value
the price tag on the lot. Once you start that
car and you drive it off, you can you can
start whittling away thousands of dollars off that car, because
now it's a used car technically, And so if you're
Dan Snyder, no matter what you want back in return,
you're never going to get the same value for Kirk Cousins.

(21:06):
You just need to take what you can get. You know,
like you don't. You don't drive a car off a
lot at twenty dollars and then come back five minutes
later and say, all right, I'd like twenty two for it.
Daily go kiss my assto. What are you talking about?
You just do? Oh you're lucky. If I give you eighteen,
it's not happening. So I just think they've got to acknowledge.
It amazes me though, how many owners and executives in

(21:28):
sports just want to be right, Like they don't want
to get it right, they just want to be right.
And Daniel Sider is a perfect example. Listen, you made
a mistake. You believed in r G three, It didn't
work out. It blew up in your face. You can
you now have a quarterback there who can play. I'm
not saying he's the greatest quarterback in the world. He

(21:48):
does have flaws. But they look around the league there
are teams around the league that would do anything to
have a Kirk Cousins on their roster, and that they
won't trade you for it. They'd rather sign him in
free agency. But for some sin, Daniel Snyder just he
he just wants to he wants to be right. He
just I gotta get this right. The good news for
Redskin fans there are only two prom time home games
that they'll have to watch Kirk Cousins play as much,

(22:12):
but depending on the flex schedule, of course, but too
just as of right now, there are road games, but
the home ones seem to be the real issue. Um
Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio. You can
always listen to the show on the I Heart Radio
app as well as on Sirius x M channel Lady three.
We're gonna take a quick break. In sixty seconds from now,
we will find out about a potential trade in the NFL.

(22:33):
So we'll get to that here coming up in sixty
seconds with our NFL Insider. First, though, let's find out
what's trending. It is the Kirk Cousins Radio Network here
on Fox Sports Radio b KR today. B k R
stands for because Kirk Rules right now, not Buyer, Knox
and Ramos. We are in for Doug today. Joining us
are good Buddy from Sporting News in our Fox Sports

(22:53):
Radio NFL Insider. Also here, um yapping on Sirius sex
M NFL Radio. Alex Marvez, Hey, Alex, be somethhing. How
you doing, gentlemen? Doing better than a couple of people
in the NFL today, if you know what I'm saying,
Better than David Gentleman, better than Dante Fowler um, and
probably better than Bruce than Bruce Allen. I was gonna say,
what what is Bruce Allen and the Washington Redskins dealing

(23:15):
with right now? And what will they be dealing with
over the next five months as it seems like it's
just a matter of time before Kirk Cousins is in
a new uniform. Well, yes and no. I'll tell you
one thing that's interesting about this whole thing is that
the Redskins may be able to get something out of
this with Kirk Cousins. And when I say that, we're
talking about maybe next year if they if they put

(23:37):
out you know that the you know, they put a
transition tag on them, and then another team wants him
and the Redskins are willing to match. Now the Redskins,
you know, of course, then they may be able to
reach an agreement where they're able to trade that player
because they realize that the agreement is going to be matched.
You know, this happened. Let me get an example something
similar with back in two thousand and seven with the
Miami Dolphins the Patriots. We're gonna sign west well Oker

(24:00):
to an offer sheet, uh, you know, and and then
at that point, basically they reached agreement on compensation. So
the Redskins may be able to ultimately trade Kirk Cousins. Listen,
they can keep in next year thirty four million dollars
under a salary camp of a hundred eighty billion dollars.
It's not the most ideal situation, but if they want
kirk Cousins, they can keep them. But again, is that

(24:20):
making yourself a better team, As Kirk Cousins really worth
thirty five million dollars if he's use an exclusive franchise
tender on him. No, I mean that's another subject devate
type situation. But I mean, look, the Redskins, as bad
as this looks to them as an organization right now,
not being able to get him sign long term. They
can continue to hold kirk Cousins hostage for at least
another year. I wouldn't trust me when you have someone

(24:41):
that's as headstrong as Dan Snyder, someone who has heard
all these you know we know about Dan. Remember this
is the guy who refused to change the nickname right
despite the fact that offends a whole heck of a
lot of people. And Dan Snyder doesn't care. You know what.
This guy can cut off his nose despite the space.
So let's not move kirk cousins zip code quite yet
to another teams. How is it that kirk Cousins could

(25:01):
still be traded this offseason? What goes into that and
how to get done? Well, I mean a team would
have to have the calor salary cap space to get
a deal done, and then on top of that, you'd
have to have the compensation agreed to. So you need
to have the framework of a long term deal that's
set up, you know, to make this type of deal,
and you know, and that's something that you'd also have
to you know, It's it's a little tricky as well

(25:21):
because the Redskins. You can't you can't have a situation Jonas,
where for example, a team reaches out to the agent,
you know, Mike McCartney and says, look, you know, we're
going to offer this type of contract in this trade.
I mean, that's where you start getting into the tampering
issues and things like this with Kirk Cousins. So to me,
you'd have to make a deal and then you'd have
to hope that you can get him signed long term,

(25:42):
even if it's wink wink not not. But you still
run the danger yourself then of of trading for a
player who then doesn't sign with you. So, you know,
because if Kirk Cousins, he has to he has to
want to be somewhere, you know what I mean. Look
if if the Jets, for example, if the Jets trade
for right and he doesn't want to be in New York,
then he doesn't sign a long term deal, you see
what I mean. So it's two types of things that

(26:04):
have to happen here. Plus, I just don't think the
Redgians are prepared for the departure of Kirk Cousins right now.
I mean, they didn't make another movie at quarterback. They've
talked up Nate Sudfeld. Okay, a you know a late
round pick from a few years ago, who's who's made
some nice strides for them and maybe down the road
to be a backup or a potential starter for them.
They still have Colt McCoy, but guys that that the
moves that they made this offseason are moves made to

(26:27):
win now, moves made to win in seventeen. So my
feeling is that they that they're not going to consider
trades for him. And the other thing is we saw
this week with Jerry Richardson and Carolina. You know, Bruce
Allen is handing things from Dan Snyder's standpoint, and if
Dan Snyder doesn't want to let Kirk Cousins go again,
they may make all sorts of irrational things that ahead
and say why are you doing this? Well, it's because

(26:48):
the owner wants it that way. Alex Barvez joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio talking about the future of
Kirk Cousins. We mentioned the draft as well that you
could see in and if you're a team because on
McVeigh and the l A Rams have been brought up
as possible connections. I want to travel down this road
a little bit because how many teams would be willing
to take Kirk Cousins over maybe the top three quarterbacks

(27:12):
that we could get in the NFL draft, because I
think that the reason I bring this up, Alex is
we always say at San Francisco, at San Francisco and
at San Francisco, well, if the forty Niners are awful
and have a chance to land Sam Donald or a
chance to land Josh Allen, I would think they would
go with the younger quarterback. Where where do you see
that that playing into some of these teams decisions? Absolutely?

(27:34):
And how about the kid from u C l A. Rosen.
I mean he's in the mix as well, and who
knows who steps up and plays? Well, you're right, because
we think about it from a cost standpoint. You dropped
the quarterback in round one, Okay, so you've now got
that player for five years, and then on top of that,
two potential years under a frame attack to keep that
same quarterback. So you're looking at seven years of having

(27:55):
that quarterback and being able to develop that quarterback who
potentially has greater upside than Cousins. It's what makes San
Francisco's free agency so strange this past year because they
signed guys to help them win now, right, So it
may help them get to five and eleven, six and ten. Potentially,
we'll see how Ryan Hoyer does. I mean, there's still

(28:15):
to me a little bit of a mess of quarterback.
But let's say that they are improved that much, they
can win five or six games, then they're out of
the running potentially for one of these top three quarterbacks. Right.
So that's when they may be just feeling the desire
to trade for Kirk Cousins. And hey, he already knows
the system. He can he can pop right in and
play the same two. From the Redskins standpoint is this,
and and you know, Jake Gruden coached Andy Dalton as

(28:37):
a rookie and and he led the Cincinnati Bengals to
the playoffs. Maybe it's time for the Washington Redskins to say,
you know what, we're going to restructure our team in
the way that we do business. We're gonna draft a quarterback,
but we're gonna become a run heavy team. We're gonna adjust,
and we're gonna groom our own quarterback ourselves. And maybe
they draft a player in the second round. And we
found great quarterbacks in the second round through the years.

(28:58):
You know, Derek Carr being the latest example of that,
and you saw what Andy Dalton has done. So there's
a way to find another quarterback. There's some other names
out there at quarterbacks as well that could be a
short term fixed. Maybe a Drew Breese if he leads
New Orleans, that's a possibility. I mean, there's there's gonna
be a number of guys a j mccaren. Is he
available in a trade scenario? Remember, someone who is familiar
with the Bengals organization, Jake Gruden is what you want

(29:19):
to coach him with the Redskins, be willing to make
a trade for him because he's going to be a
restricted free agent next year, or potentially signed him to
an offer sheet. I mean, there's a lot of chess
pieces in play here. That's why I think it's just
really premature for anyone to think that this guy is
going anywhere right now. You know, I think we have
to let this Kirk Cousins situation play out and then's
see where we go, because again, just a lot of

(29:39):
moving parts. Alex Marty Hernie is in, Dave Gentleman is
out in Carolina as general manager. What happened with Gentleman
and why was the movement. Yeah, this one is just
an unfortunate situation. I wrote about the Sporting News dot Com.
I don't feel that the Panthers are a better organization
by letting Dave Gentleman go and listen, Dave can be
a little bit brash, a little bit abrupt. A lot
of people in Carol one of just deal. They listened

(30:01):
to this with someone who wasn't doing what the owner wanted.
And you have the owner has his favorite players, and
you know, and through the years he has had a
tendency to overpay for players that he likes and to
keep them in the fold. So you know, that's one
of the reasons they ran into so many cap problems
before because he he liked certain guys and and you know,
so there's been talked to. Thomas Davis and and Greg

(30:21):
Olsen are two players who's in their thirties now who
had their hands out and saying, hey, we want new contracts,
were out playing our current deals, and Dave Gentleman was
a bit hevident to extend anyone's contract or to give
players more money like this. So what they've done now,
and this is where things get interesting. Let's say you know,
Marty Hernie is back, and Marty was the guy that
you know he at while at the Helm, was the

(30:42):
one who got him into all this cap trouble. If
you reward Thomas Davis greg Olson once again by ripping
up their contract, what if you're Cam Newton and you decide,
you know what, I'm not happy with my contract, so
I want more money because hey, now the deal that
I signed a couple of years ago. Quarterbacks are making
a lot more money than me, and I'm Cam Newton.
I'm l m v P. I should be paid. You know,

(31:03):
this is the problem that you have when when you
keep going back and redoing contracts. So I think there's
something to be said about that. There's also been speculation that, look,
once Brandon Bean left the organization, that Brandon was a
guy who's a little bit of a go between between
Jerry Richardson and Dave Gentleman. Who's you know, someone who
is like a buffer so to speak, if something wasn't
going along well, Brandon would be the guy that could
get sort of ease things between the two. Is a

(31:25):
go between between him. He's now gone, so then it
became Dave just dealing directly with Jerry Richardson, and Jerry
didn't like what he was hearing. But look when you
look at the job that Dave Gentleman did in four years,
a team that reached the playoffs three straight years and
one that while they took a step back last year, Jonas,
they looked on paper to meet as good as they've
been in Carolina. They gave Cam Newton weapons, they gave

(31:46):
him a better left tackle. They added the veterans and
Julius Peppers and Mike Adams that Ron Rivera wanted, I mean,
and they got tak a short signed this offseason to
a long term deal. I'm not sure what more you
could ask from Dave. For Dave Gentleman from a GM,
he's not warm andy with the players, but he did
a great job and the Panthers are a lesser organization
without him. Last one for me, Alex, real quick before
we let you go, because I'm wondering if there's if

(32:07):
this is just coincidental, or if there's something that we
could be seeing moving forward in the NFL. So you
just heard Dave Gentleman was fired. Ryan Grigson, Doug Whaley,
Scott McLuhan, John Dorsey, all these guys have been fired,
but but not right after the season, so you know
later on in the off season. Why is that happening now?

(32:28):
You know, this is a weird one to me, you know,
because it doesn't make a whole heck of a lot
of sense to be making this move now. And I
just think they're owners that made decisions and their billionaires,
and they make these moves and they just figure someone
else will take care of it for him. I mean, remember,
when you're talking about these franchises, you're not exactly looking
at perennial Super Bowl winners here, right. Maybe there's a
reason why they don't win championships, maybe because they're not

(32:51):
really well run at the top of the food chain,
if you understand what I'm saying. And I think and
I think that's what you're seeing here. I think in
the case of you're Richardson, there was more of an
emotional move than a rational move. I think there may
have been a big time financial disagreement when it came
to what went on with John Dorsey and his contract,
because it makes no sense to dismiss in the way
that they did. And Andy read now getting all the

(33:13):
juice Scott mccloon. Well, that one is on both sides
because Scott had reportedly some off field issues that are
contributing to what the Washington Redskins was going on with
him and pub Lalley. That one was just really bizarre
himself just wanted to keep him in the building for
whatever reason, you know, and maybe they just wanted to
see could he worked things out with Sean McDermot, that
these two guys end up developing a great relationship and

(33:36):
moving forward, and instead, you know, Doug wasn't able to
get that done, and you know, obviously Sean now has
the juice with that team. But yeah, it has been
a very strange offseason when it comes to the general
manager position. Get him on Twitter at Alex Marvez rights
for the Sporting News, our NFL ns that are here
on Fox Sports Radio, and you can also hear him
on Sirius Sex m NFL Radio. Alex Marvez, Thanks Alex,

(33:57):
Thank you, gentlemen. Be good. When you're ready to experience
a better way to sell or trade in your car,
check out True car dot com Slash Trade Today. Dan
Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox
Sports Radio. The Kirk Cousins talk continues with a little
something we call kurk or twerk. Uh. I'm just kidding.
I'm just kidding, Okay, So we do have something though.

(34:18):
It's very important question in sports, all right, is a
very important question in sports. You need to be here
in order to answer it. Find out what we mean
next year on fs are he's Jonas knocks. I'm Dan Buyer.
That is Johnny Ramos in for Doug this week at
b k R edition. Couldn't do it without you, and
we surely couldn't do it without our good friend Bryant Music,

(34:41):
our executive producer, and Steve de Seger are update anchor
who always brings us, uh the special information that we
need here on Fox Sports Radio. And uh, oh my gosh,
I think he's got he's got something of Jonas is Uh, Jonas,
Let's reach into Jonas is sat run it again? Will

(35:01):
we find Kirk Cousins in there? That is the that
is the question too expensive for the show. Games don't stop,
don't stop? What have we got in Jonas's sack? What's
the game today? John? What are the chances? Yes, that's
what I just said. As for the baseball today, and
there are seven games today. The Phillies at Miami game

(35:24):
was one of them. Giancarlo Stanton with hist homer of
the season. Of course, it was in a ten three
loss to the Phillies, but he's been red hot with
the long ball. That homer has tied Stanton for the
major league lead with Aaron Judge of the Yankees. And
Stanton has nine homers in his last twelve games. In fact,
his last four round trippers have all come off the

(35:44):
bat at at least a hundred ten miles an hour. Guys,
what are the chances that Gencarlos Stanton leads the majors
in homers this year? One? Yes, you heard it here. First,
Judge can't keep up that pace. He's a key, Okay,
Stanton has been through this rodeo before, even though he
sometimes misses the end of the season because of injuries.

(36:07):
Give me Stanton, Steve. I'm gonna say there's a percent
chance that he will and then there's a figure. Yeah,
so you don't think that Bryce Harper is going to
catch up either of you are rookie Cody Bellinger one
hundred percents it will be Gian Carlos Stanton because the
Marlins are gonna be playing meaningless games as well, so

(36:29):
the only thing that is gonna matter is him upping
his home runs. I give those other players a fifty
percent chance. Story number two about Bartola Cologne, theoretically forty
four years old, recently called up by the Twins. Pitch
last night, was okay for a few inittings and wound
up giving up. I think it was four runs in
four plus sittings against the Yankee. So add that to

(36:50):
the awful Braves work this year. Cologne's c r A
still over eight in fourteen starts this season, and now
he's told ESPN deportees Marley Rivera he's been considering retirement
and that his next start, which happens to be against
the Dodgers Monday in l A, could be a determining
factor in making a decision. What are the chances Cologne

(37:11):
is retired before the end of this season? Jonas, this
is tough man, because he's been pretty durable. I'm gonna
say chance that he is retiring in a fifty percent
chance that he's not retiring. And an unrelated story, Mike

(37:32):
Colan also gave up the runs last night after what's
just thinking of Cologne? We were question No, just there's
the I think it's done. I really I thought it
was actually done. I didn't think that he would resign
with the Twins. I think it's over with that. Bartolo

(37:56):
Cologne doesn't play again. I just did a Google image
search for Bartolo Cologne. He looks like Andre the Giant
in Assumo outfit. So the question that would not get
a fifty fift response? What are the chances that Bartolo
Cologne takes a turkey leg with him to the mound?
Steve moving onto the NFL Pro Football Talk, pointing out

(38:20):
that while managers and coaches are routinely kicked out from
games baseball, basketball, the NFL quote, no head coach in
NFL history has ever been ejected from a game, and
this year that may change. End quote. There's an addition
to this year's NFL rulebook makes clear that new rule
in resulting in the automatic ejections for the two unsportsmanlike

(38:42):
conduct fouls. It doesn't only apply to players, also to management, equipment, personnel, trainers,
and yes, coaches too specific of those fouls and they'd
be out. What are the chances the first head coach
ever to be disqualified from an NFL game takes play
this year. I think the chance of that is Okay,

(39:05):
I think it's very slim, so very slim. A three
percent chance that I coach would get ejected, and that
would be Todd Bowles just so he doesn't have to
watch his jets anymore. And I also think there's so
much going on, so as far as whether it's going
to happen, I would give it, jeez, first year they're
doing this less than I would say a fifty percent

(39:26):
chance that a coach will be ejected in a fifty
percent chance they won't. I give it a fifty percent
chance that Kirk Cousins Boom boom, look out, Janet look out, Jenaradouse, Jeneradouse.

(39:47):
John Romins is here as well in this b k
R edition. John didn't move Okay, didn't move it Hall
he you put him in a tight situation. Cool as
a cucumber. That's a Johnny ram us Is. That's why
we've got them along thanks to us, Steve to Saga
having some fun with jonas is sack. We always have
fun with your sack, Jonas. Yeah, I mean I'm a

(40:09):
little I gotta be honest, a little exhausted, a little
I just kind of want a nap. Now that's maybe
a pack of smokes. Can't do it right now, but
there's a fifty fifty chance you could do so after
the show. Okay, you may or may not take a
nap after the show. Patrick tweeted in As we were
doing the Kirk Cousins radio tour here on Fox Sports Radio,

(40:30):
Patrick tweets in, I don't see Kurt's going anywhere this year.
I used the Kurts and you actually used a sea
changing it up a little bit and uh having some
fun with Kirk Cousins. Um the Washington Redskins RMS we
earlier the show compared them to what is happening with
the New York Knicks. Both different kinds of dysfunction. But
this function could be creeping into another professional sports team,

(40:53):
a team that has had great success in recent history,
but that this function and could end up tearing apart
this championship franchise. As to who the team is, yes,
you may champion, great great run as of late, they've

(41:13):
had great success, but I've had a champion championship recently. Yes, yes,
they reached the top of the hill. The top of
the mountain. All right, I know it is okay, and
that would be a little drum roll please from the
studio band if we have them, little drumroll please? Oh yeah,
that's Do you know that we actually bought a wolf? Yeah? Yes, yes?

(41:38):
Or is that a coyote? What you got there? I
get off Eddie's page. John M. Garstia as well, John Um,
all right, so the the band is in. They have
just set up and a drum roll please. I know
who this team you're talking about is? We got live

(41:59):
from the seven. It's John Robbins. Uh, the Los Angeles Lakers.
No said, recent championships in the Summer League. That's true,
that's true. Let's go to the coyote. What is the
team we are talking About's the coyote that can talk? Gosh,

(42:20):
he's coming up right after mel Anton and here on
Fox Sports Radio on the Dug Gottliebs Show. It is
the Cleveland Cavaliers and not the Browns or the Indians.
The Cleveland Cavaliers. When we said championships, that actually eliminated
the Browns from the conversation right away. But it's but
it's it's the the dysfunction that is creeping into Cleveland.

(42:42):
Already this week, we've had Lebron James reportedly feeling frustrated
and concerned about the Cavaliers off season. Well, another one
of these stars of the Cleveland Cavaliers, that would be
Kyrie Irving, spoke about well, his thoughts on what the
NBA off season has been so far are for the
Cleveland Cavaliers and talking to Sports Illustrated, we're in a

(43:03):
very peculiar place. We just have to, you know, make
sure that all our pieces are aligned first, and um,
you know, then we go from there. But this is summertime,
a lot of craziness going on in the NBA, so
you know, that's to just observe and then see what happens.
But obviously there are some things that I'm pretty sure
the organization wants to do and I we'll go from there.
I want to I want to do something quickly because

(43:24):
I want the listeners to understand and not be fooled.
There are headlines that say Kyrie Irving called the Cavaliers
off season peculiar. That is not what he said. He
said they are in a peculiar spot and that is
actually more interesting than saying they have a peculiar off
season because Kyrie Irving understands the landscape of what is

(43:46):
happening with that Cleveland Cavaliers organization. Because you have Lebron
James and his ability to opt out after next season,
you also have Kyrie's ability to opt out of his
contract after the twenty nineteen season, and Jonas. The biggest
news in free agency or in the NBA this past
off season, okay, has been Paul George and Carmelo Anthony.

(44:08):
Those have been the two biggest stories that have have
have grabbed the attention of everyone, and the Cavaliers have
been connected to both, but they have not handled this
situation with both players the same way. And when you
see how the Cavaliers decided to pursue Paul George and
not necessarily pursue and try to figure out a way

(44:30):
to Carmelo Anthony, it adds another layer to what is
a peculiar spot for the Cleveland Cavaliers. They have been
linked to Paul George, Jimmy Butler, all the superstars they've
been linked to this offseason, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, and
Carmelo Anthony. Am I missing one. So so that that
was that was the the goal at the start of it,
And so far they've brought back Kyle Korver and signed

(44:53):
Jose called her own, and and Jeff Green that Jeffrey,
that's like, uh, that's like sending sending your your your
husband to the you know, you send your husband and
your wife to the store. Hey, make sure you pick
up you know, we're gonna need meat for the grill.
We're gonna need some prime rib. We're gonna need make
sure you pick up all the good stuff. All right,

(45:13):
just make sure we get all the good stuff for
this party we're having later. And then she walks back
in the door and she's got two things of ajax.
What are you doing? What? What? What is this for?
I'm not sure how Kyle Korvern Jose, Jose called her own.
Aren't supposed to make Calve fans feel like, yeah, this

(45:33):
is where you know, everything's fine here. I mean, everybody's
making moves except for the Calves and now they're superstar
players are like, yeah, don't get it, don't understand it.
Dan Gilbert's in my opinion, said listen, we know we're
not gonna have Lebron James, Lebron James is not going
to be back here after the season. We will figure

(45:54):
out what we are going to do at that point
when that time comes. And that is why, in my opinion, Jonas,
when you see the moves that the Cavaliers tried to make, okay,
because we heard reports about them in a deal with
the Pacers in Denver Nuggets that could have brought Paul
George to Cleveland. There was a recent WoDES reported on

(46:15):
a recent deal of a straight up trade with the
Indiana Pacers right before George was dealt to Oklahoma City
that there could have been something worked out between the
Cavaliers and Pacers. Again, this is a front office that
was working without a general manager, Okay, This was a
front office that is looking for some sort of future.

(46:35):
And Dan Gilbert was reportedly involved in all of this.
And what Paul George has that Carmelo Anthony doesn't have,
it's not youth, it's not defend, the ability to play defense.
The only difference is that Paul George would only be
there for one year. And I think the reason you're
not hearing any rumors of Lebron or of Carmelo coming

(46:57):
to Cleveland is because he has two years and fifty
four million dollars left on his deal, and the Cavaliers
know that after eighteen there's no point in having a
Carmelo Anthony on their roster in nineteen season for twenty
seven million dollars when Lebron James isn't going to be there.
And now we go back to Kyrie Irving, who has
an opportunity to opt out of his contract in the

(47:19):
nineteen season. It's peculiar for him because now there's nobody
going to be around and he may have to be
the guy in Cleveland that, by the way, would read
none of the benefits and would get all of the
blame if they lose because Lebron James is no longer
there to shield in from any of that. They couldn't
even land Chauncey Billips. Let's all think about this for
a second, alright. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Dan Gilbert couldn't

(47:43):
outbid for an analyst who would be getting his first
time ever as a front office position, in the first
time ever he'd be getting that job. They couldn't outbid
for that analysts rights from a network that's losing money.
They also got the lost to the Jump. Yeah, that's
what they lost out. He gotta be kidding me. I

(48:05):
I listen, and here's the It's it's clear to everybody
here that this is you know, this is the Titanic,
all right? There is water in the boat, all right,
that you already hit the glacier. There's water in the boat,
and this thing's going down. And Dan Gilbert is trying
to figure out a way to to to to decide
on life without Lebron because he knows Lebron is gone

(48:25):
at the end of next season. Now, where Lebron ends up,
that will be speculation we could do on other shows
when there's nothing else going on. But he knows that
Lebron is probably gone, and so he's looking at this saying,
all right, what's my plan after Lebron? You know what,
what can I do after Lebron? It's why I think
he didn't want to part with Kevin Love, It's why
I don't think he wants to part with Kyrie Irving,
because he's got more control over those guys after Lebron.

(48:48):
And I got news for you. If Lebron leaves, yeah,
you're not a great team, but it's not a bad
fallback plan to at least have Kyrie and Kevin Love. Well,
then then then I would ask why was Kevin Love
and volve than those deals to bring in Paul George
because that I don't think that he wants Kevin Love there.
I think that he thinks that they could either build
around Kyrie, where it's a big mistake because I don't

(49:10):
think Kyrie is gonna like what he sees around him
and would rather test out the free agent the pool
at that point. Well, I think also what ends up
happening when you team with That's why Lebron deserves some
criticism on this and and someone will look at it
and go, yeah, well, he's the reason a lot of
those guys ended up there. Yeah, I get it. And
he deserves as much credit as you want to give him.
That's fine, but he does deserve a little bit of

(49:31):
criticism in this regard. It's a little bit more difficult
to deal guys like Chris Bosh and Kevin Love when
they have had to sacrifice their own play just so
they could fit with Lebron. So what ends up happening
when you sacrifice your own play you lose significant value
on the open market. That's just that's just a factive
thing that that's just that's the way it goes. If

(49:53):
you're a quarterback and you lose weapons around you and
you don't put up the numbers that you once did,
you know that that's part You are gonna be worth
as much as you were when you were able to
put up numbers and show proof. Hey look at me,
look at what I'm able to do. So that's also
part of Lebron's problem. I don't think they got, you know,
the offers that they thought they were going to get
for Kevin Love, because the Kevin Love you're trading for now.

(50:14):
You don't even remember the thirty and fifteen guy a
couple of years ago. All you know him now is
as a as an eighteen and a nine guy because
he fits in an offense that's surrounded by Lebron James
and Kyrie Irving. This is what I think is going
to happen. Lebron James leaves after next season and goes
in place somewhere else. That means that Kyrie has one
year left on his deal. Kyrie, as I mentioned, would

(50:35):
not get the Cleveland already got their win with the Calves,
so them winning a title with Kyrie as the leader
isn't appealing for him to stick around in Cleveland. We've
seen that book before. Kyrie as a leader, will will
the will the money be there enough to keep Kyrie
and Cleveland? Probably not, because then he is gonna have
to deal with everything. If he would, if you would leave,
if you would go to I don't know, the Knicks

(50:57):
or the Bulls or a team that is looking for
that big superstar are he can end up making his
own true name in those markets. And I think that
is something he is going to be looking for because
if he wasn't drafted by Cleveland, or if he didn't
have Lebron James playing alongside him, Kyrie Irving wouldn't be
in Cleveland for as long as he has been. There's
there's no way. And I think that when he says

(51:19):
this has been a peculiar offseason, he's looking at himself
two years down the road and sees himself, in my mind,
leaving Cleveland. He is Dan Buyer. I am Jonas Knox.

in Alabama, illegal to drive blindfolded. Yes, in Alabama it's
illegal to drive blindfolded. In Oklahoma, how about this illegal
to read comic books while driving? Mark that down, John Ramos.
And in Russia it's illegal to drive a dirty car.
And here's something else you might not know about cars.

(52:02):
That's really helpful, guys, you won't get in trouble with
the law. Yes, Truecar also helps people get used cars.

You can get me at the Jonas Knocks up next, though,
there was a major move made in sports just last night,
and it could be a peak into the future for
one of the great franchises ever. That's next here on FSR.
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio,

(53:07):
a b k R edition. Janua Ramos cranking it up.
He's Jonas Knox. I'm Dan Buyer, love your feedback on Twitter.
I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox, Jonas that they want
to reach you where it would be the best place.
At the Jonas Knox would be the best place. As
for Johnny Ramos, I'm gonna switch it up a little
bit today because I think it needs to be done
this way at j S. Ramos zero six very good,

(53:30):
a little different kind of feel, you know this time around.
If they want to to weigh in on things, We've
got a lot of baseball going on this afternoon. Of course,
the trade deadline comes up in a couple of a
couple of weeks. I do want to mention Jonas and
I know that the Tampa Bay Rays are leading the
American League Wild Card, but there's sometimes an easy target.
We have a's Raise on our TV checking you know,

(53:52):
why not are there more people? I mean, are there
more people there watching the game than the are sitting
you're watching our show, you're on Fox Sports Radio. I
will say this, Uh, I'd rather watch as Raise and
that crap pass show we usually have on the TVs here. Oh,
John Ronalds doesn't have any golf channel up for me

(54:13):
that we prep for the open channel, and he's going
through the baseball channels right now. All right, let's walk
it through. This is Radio Indians, Giants, Ladies, and Gentlemendia. Yeah. Yeah,
what else we got, John? We got one more TV left.
We got any other matinee games on that that does
have a game, and I think it's the Rays game
you were just talking about to the commercial breaks. Okay,
so we have got Mariners astros. Okay, this is all right.

(54:36):
So you are listening right now, look at your phone
or your radio dial to the to your left or
your radio dial. We have got Mariners, Astros, We've got Rockies.
Padres is still in the wild card hunt. Then we've
got A's Raise, and all the way to the right
of your phone or your radio dial, we have got
Giants Indians. Is that Matt Caine it is? He's still pitching?

(54:59):
She my boy, I didn't know he's in the league anymore.
If this is it, John, please let me know for
all the games. Okay, I want to know. It's a
theme day though there at oh dot Co at the
A's and Raise, it's addressed like an empty seat day.
Is there a ballpark that you would like to go to?

(55:24):
We were just talking off the air. I have a
buddy back in Wisconsin and John would be interested in
this who went to a Braves game last night and
said that this was his forty second ballpark, major league
baseball ballpark that he has been too. And yeah, yeah,
just it's not just a lot of people do ballpark trips,

(55:44):
but forty second, which tells you how much turnover there
has been in ballparks. But I mean, I've been fortunate.
I've been Fenway and Wrigley, some of the classics, San Francisco.
Any that you would need to hit before you take
a dirt nap the Royals. It will still have By
the way, we would have used another joke there, but
we've been reprimanded on using that joke. Um would be,

(56:07):
would do the Royals still play at Kaufman Stadium? Is
it still Kaufman Stadium? I would want to go see
a Royals game, uh just so I could get black
out drunk and then jump into the fountain, but while
the water, while the water is shooting up to see
if they'll like like the part on what was the
one movie, the die Hard movie where Bruce Willis gets

(56:29):
shot up out of the manhole. Like, that's what I
want to have happened to any any ballpark that's got
a got a you know, one of those fountains there,
I want to get hammer jump on top of it
and have it throw me in the air. That bad,
all right, we're just fill Well, mine's easy because I
haven't been thereby I got Honestly, I got caught on manhole,

(56:51):
That's what That's what I got hung up on. Definitely
Rigley Wrigley Field, Definitely Yankee Stadium, definitely, uh waypart just
I know you guys have been there. I have not
been there, so but you know one place i'd like
to go that's probably not I'd like to go to
see the Brewers. I think i'd like to see the Brewer. Yes,
I want to see him go down the thing into

(57:13):
the beer. I don't want to break your heart, but
it was so much better when it was the beer mug.
Now it's just like a slide that you would see
at a park that's just ten times bigger. If you
want to see the equivalent to Bernie Brewer, just go
outside the studio. There's a guy holding up a sign
that says we'll work for food. So perfect time to
make our transition. As we talk baseball. You could trade

(57:34):
him something John for for something. You can make a deal.
Baseball teams are making deals right now, including the Yankees
and White Sox. To talk about who is doing what
in Major League Baseball. Bob Nightingale of the USA Today joins, says, hey, Bob,
how you doing doing great? You know the Bernie Brewer
is so popular at the ballpark itself. There's actually a
sign for the opposing players do not slide down this thing,

(57:58):
sliding down like they're burning the Brewer. It was I
remember I grew up in Wisconsin, and I was under
the impression that Bernie Brewer would slide down on every run,
so I was always disappointed. But it was great because
balloons would come out of the beer mug and it
was one of the great sites that you would see
in baseball. But uh, these new parks just don't don't
want to liven things up, all right, Bob, you continued

(58:19):
the conversation here, so we got it. We just before
we move on to some more important things. We got
to know from a guy who's covered baseball for a
long time, give me the best ballpark in Major League
Baseball and the worst. You know, I'm gonna throw out
the you know, divinised ballparks, uh family of parking regularly
and go more to the newer ones. I say, of

(58:39):
all the others, Pittsburgh's PNC Park is absolutely gorgeous. View
of the downtown of Abertical Many Bridge, the water absolutely spectacles.
Got to be the Oakland destroy the stadium. It's awful.
It is atrocious, and we're getting a good look at
it right now with the raising A is that our

(59:01):
TVs um gonna get a good look at these Yankees
as they swung a move with the Chicago White Sox
to bring in Todd Fraser and others last night. Who's
the real winner in this deal? Is it the Yankees
for what they get now as they hold on to
that final wild card spot, or is it the White
Sox for what they will get maybe in the future.
I love about the White Sox got. I mean now

(59:22):
they've got you know, Cannada top what sixty eight prospects,
you know, unbelievable how they rebuilt that farm system. So
I love the trade for Chicago and for you know,
New York. Even if you don't make the playoffs this year,
now you've got the two relievers for next year. So
it makes sense for them too. They got enough foul
fielders and Aaron Judge isn't going away, so it wasn't

(59:43):
like the young Outlado was gonna beat him out. Uh So, no,
and the Yankees and made a lot of sense. At
least shows the players that yeah, we're we got our
eyes to the future, but we let to win right
now as well. Are the White Sox basically doing a
we saw it work across town to where you trade
away everybody in build with young talent in the in
the minors. Are they trying to emulate what the Cubs

(01:00:05):
have done and build in turning around that franchise? Yeah,
and also of the Houston Astros, Absolutely right, it works.
We'll say we're working in Philadelphia Milwaukee said a semi
rebuilding program. But yeah, I mean for the Cubs win
the World Series last year, I do it that way.
The Astros, you know, might be the best regular season
team right now. They you know, they lost with a

(01:00:26):
hundred games three straight years, so yeah, you might as well.
Uhs well copy with those guys are done. Bob Nightingale
in the USA today, joining us here on Fox Sports
Radio talking baseball. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer in
for Doug Gottlieb on the Doug Gottlieb. So you mentioned
the Astros. We got the news yesterday. Carlos Corea out
six to eight weeks, had a picture today of him

(01:00:47):
having his surgery on his thumb. How he's gonna be back,
we assume for the postseason. But this is a team
that has a fifteen sixteen game lead in the A
L West. How does this affect that team over these
next two months where they likely will be in the playoffs,
there should be no doubt about it. But here with
one of their studs isn't playing over the last couple

(01:01:08):
of months of the year. Is that a worry for
them as they would enter the postseason. I think the
only worry is, you know, will he come back and
be fine? Uh? You know, if it's a you know,
a two month process and there talking about coming back
to his tendations with the playoffs starts, you know, that's
a short period to get ready. It would not be

(01:01:29):
surprised me at all for them to send him. You know,
some are demonstruction League or some of my debt. Just
get some live at bats. That's your worries that he's
going to be stale when he goes back. He is.
Bob Nightingale, MLB columnist USA Today, joining us here on
Fox Sports Radio. Bob, what say, um, so, so, who
are a couple of players before the deadline as an
approaches that you expect to be moved next? Because there's

(01:01:51):
been some rumors about Baltimore potentially making a deal. Um
I know a couple of teams have been linked to
Zach Brittain. Possibly. What do you see happening coming up here? Quick? Well,
they certainly Sonny Graham Boclan as he's the best starter
available right now, He's gonna get moved, Brad Hand from
the pod raised reliever will get moved. We'll see a

(01:02:12):
lot of relievers get moved. Uh in the Marlins, two
guys Ramos in, David Phelps, but not but not either
as it's not Jehan Carlos Stanton or Yellow Service soon.
I don't think Jessein brunnnerill get moved. I think a
lot of a lot of trades and volume wise, but
not quality wise. Bob Nating Gale the USA today joining

(01:02:32):
us to the Brewer is gonna make a move now
that the Cubs have tried to up their pitching. I mean,
are they still in on Stunty Gray? Is that a
likely destination um for Gray to lend in Milwaukee? I
think Houston is a little bit more likely. The Milwaukee's
right there in on him. They were in Quintana too,
you know, I mean the beauty about Kinchanna and Gray's
you have for a number of years, Great great threw

(01:02:55):
nineteen Quintanna through two thousand twenty at cheap money. So yeah,
the Brewers like to make a move and make sure
he's giving around for a while and not just a rental.
Get him on Twitter at be Nightingale. The place said
he would most not want to be is Oakland, and
I don't think you're alone there, Bob when it comes
to ballparks. Thanks for the time. We appreciate it. We'll
do it again soon, alright, my pleasure. Thank you guys,

(01:03:18):
Bob Nightingale. You he's right along with you in Pittsburgh.
You love pn. P NC is awesome. That is a
great place. Yeah, that was. That was a lot of
fun going there and just you just go there and
you walk around, Like why sit in one spot when
you can walk around the whole stadium? So you do.
By the way, Danna do want to let you know
that we are brought to you by True Car because

I am Jonas Knox in for Doug gott Lee Pierre
on Fox Sports Radio. You can listen as always on
the I Heart Radio app as well as on Sirius
XM channel Lady three Up next, though one NFL team

(01:04:01):
may have gotten terrible news a short time ago, will
have the very latest for you coming up in sixties
seconds from now. No commercials first, though, let's find out
it's trending b k R ddition. I'm Dan Buyer. That's Jonas,
not sees Johnny Ramos. Glad to have you with us today.
And there is some news on the National Football League
that is starting to come to the service. Nothing official

(01:04:24):
from the Los Angeles Chargers Jonas, but a report from
Adam Schefter says the seventeen season, their first in l A,
may not be off to as great as a start
as they would have hoped. Yeah, they're uh. According to
Adam Schefter, league sources have told Adam Schefter the first
round pick Mike Williams might need back surgery on his
herniated disc and that would end his rookie season. So

(01:04:48):
he's already received a second epidural on his herniated disc,
and that was basically a last dish effort to have
him ready at some time during draining camp, and the
Chargers are preparing as if you will not be ready
by that time. According to sources, he's going to start
the season on the populist, which actually a lot of
guys do when it comes to training camp. But this

(01:05:09):
is I will say this for any team that would
lose a big target as a wide receiver at the
start of their career or of of the season, the
Chargers are actually equipped to handle the loss because when
you think of the pieces that are around Philip Rivers. Sure,

(01:05:29):
Keenan Allen's coming off of another knee surgery, but he's
going to be back. Tyrell Williams is there. We know
Antonio Gates is there, but Hunter Henry is another big target.
They at least have got pieces that could fill in
a spot. Their margin of error of of is gone
down if Mike Williams isn't ready and could end up
missing this season, but they're better equipped than most teams.

(01:05:52):
I think of your Bears and Kevin White, or the
Chicago Bears and Kevin White, when all you had was
all Sean Jeffrey and you just hope that Kevin White
would be able to win mur At least the Chargers
have pieces around where Mike williams absence could be covered
by the pieces that actually had success in the times
that they played. Syroll Williams filling in for Keenan Allen
was a thousand receiver last year. And also I think

(01:06:14):
that it won't affect as many people because it's with
the Chargers only because StubHub Center only holds. So I
think that that that is also something that should be
pointed out here. In fact um, if he needs back surgery,
he'll get it on stubhubs, so that's where you can
order it, and you can order tickets to watch his
back surgery if you'd like to see that. You have
to pay for parking as part of the surgery as well.

(01:06:36):
But again I urge you do not go to the
strip mall across the way. There's a seven eleven and
a Hamburger joint right across from Stubbub Center. Don't go
in there, not without weapons from somebody who's been there.
But I know it's this is a bad bad spot
to be interfere the chart only for for Mike Williams.
You have the Chargers have got other weapons with that
team that they can build around. But he was a

(01:06:57):
guy that you were expecting to step right in and
all of a sudden his career starts off like this.
And you can never with back injuries, there's always an issue.
Rob Gronkowski, It's amazing that that guy has still been
able to produce. But he's on back surgery number three. Uh,
you've seen J. J. Watt has had a couple of
back surgeries. I think it's it's one of these you
got to be careful with it, and one little thing,

(01:07:19):
one little slip up, one tackle, he gets a helmet
in the back at some point throughout his career and
then he's got a problem again. And here's here's two
other things. First, so it's a guy who broke his
neck in college. Okay, so you're coming back from that.
I'm not sure if how much they're related because I'm
not a doctor, but I would have to think, like, hey,
if you got some stuff in the same area, could
be an issue. Second of all, I've always heard I
don't know if if if Ramos has heard this. Jonas

(01:07:41):
of View heard this, stay away from back surgery if
you can't rehab it as much as you can. But
if it would have to be your absolute positively no
doubt about it. Last resort. Look at Steve Kerr. Sure,
perfect example. Steve Kerr came out and said this playoff
series when he was having all the complications, he said,
if I if I can give people one piece of advice,

(01:08:03):
avoid back surgery at all costs, no matter what it is,
you avoid it. Brady Quinn my radio wife. When you know,
he's my side piece here, my radio wife. And then
I tell him the reverse when I went on Sunday Nights.
But he was telling me all the issues that he's
had dealing with it because he chose to have a
back surgery and just the feeling that you get the
spinal fluid leak, all of that stuff that can that

(01:08:26):
can be caused from the back surgery. It's this isn't
good for him. This is not good at all. Kevin
White in Chicago, that was you know, that was those
were his legs. You know, you question whether he's gonna
have the burst again. He's still never been able to
be healthy. But the fact that it's this early in
the process and he's already had a second epidural, Yeah,

(01:08:46):
it doesn't sound good for the san Diego Chargers at
least to start the year. Again, nothing official from the Chargers,
but the report from Adam Schefter is that season ending
surgery could be a possibility. What are the chances of
Mike Williams. Haven't just kidding. We don't know what the
chances are, but at least the report popping up, and
when it's the top ten pick, it is going to
make some news for sure. Can we bring in real
quick the mayor of the StubHub Center, Steve de Sager.

(01:09:09):
H Steve de Sager, Um here Fox Sports Radio. Really
have I've been elected? I want to wear Yeah, we
got two of the brucincts you have wanted. By the way,
Mike Garret follow on this story works for NFL Network
Now says the glimmer of good news is Williams is
feeling better since the recent epidural and that he did
resume running this week. But everybody's expecting he'll start camp

(01:09:29):
on the publist. And if you start on the publist,
the Bears did this with Kevin White and then you're
a dog. Well, no, and everybody in Chica. I remember
being in Chicago actually when they announced that he was
going to miss the whole season. Like all the media
members are like, wait a second, you told us, yeah,
this is just for precaution, and now he's out for
the whole year. Well, I'm glad Dan mentioned the college
injury because that looked massive at the time. Do we

(01:09:51):
not remember that Clem is as impressive as a college
career as he's been. How would you think this is
not related to that? Yeah, that's just I'm not a doctor,
and and so I didn't want to but I just
I think that it's I think that it's it's obvious.
I am, oh, okay, good news. Yeah. Yeah, I mean,
you know, I've got to go back and pick up

(01:10:12):
my diploma or whatever it is. But but I can
tell you whatever it is. Yeah, I just listen. I
don't like to get technicals. I don't want to sound
too fancy. Hasn't come in the mail. Listen. All I
can tell you is this all right? Just from my
extensive time in the medical field, is that when you're
dealing with neck injuries and when you're dealing with back injuries,
you're dealing with him. Let me write that down. The

(01:10:35):
Schefter source said it's possible Williams was heard at the
combine and during his pro day, we know he was
diagnosed with a herniated disc after his first practice during
rookie Minicamp. Hasn't practiced since it's because I hurt my
back eating combos one. Yeah, we're kind of similar. Oh
did they sell combos anywhere but a liquor store? Sure,

(01:10:59):
they're not into supermarket. I a gas station, I think
is the place to go. Yeah, because I was gonna say,
they don't sell those anywhere except a liquor store. That's
the only time I've seen them. And the update also,
and this is the reason we're talking combos here, I
realized tasty as that is for those who aren't aware
of the small filled pretzels. Boy, is there anything Steve

(01:11:20):
can't deliver? Well, it's lunchtime and we haven't had any
during the show, so that's probably a good job. The
reason why we didn't really now that's breaking news. The
reason why we haven't gone with the Schefter story is
we don't really believe it. The way it was worded,
it's make it sound like, oh, he's all but out

(01:11:41):
for the year now. The Ian Rappaport retort is that
surgery was on the table for Williams three or four
weeks ago, but two sources of his with direct knowledge
say it is not on the table now and Williams
is improving. Steve, why don't you just be honest right now? Okay,
we're not in the air. Why don't you just tell
everybody it's because you hate a him? Scheff? But it's

(01:12:02):
more of the general comment of people who break news
and often do a great job of it. This is
kind of a scare story. I'm not saying he's not hurt.
We all know he's hurt, and we all know that
he might have back surgery, and so he comes out
with the story that says, hey, this first rounder might
have back surgery. Well, okay, if there's m R I,
if they've got an m R I and cat scan

(01:12:23):
pictures and all that other stuff. But you know which
reporter will have access to that. That'll be Adam Schefter.
Just ask Jason Pierre paul I will set the populist
though likely to happen, right Steve, Yeah, okay, And so
that could be an issue because you know who else
was on the puplist and it didn't turn out too well.
So just kidding, John told no were told no more. Sorry,

(01:12:49):
so the last one I swear, I swear for those
who aren't aware a member of the sorry, John staring
at me right and just oh okay, But now we've
got to explained to the audience that may not know
what happened. John had a cat named Kitty Boo um

(01:13:11):
who was mangled by the neighbor's dog. I mean to
the point where it was in its mouth and he
was shaking it around like trying to open up a
candy bar with your hands duct tape behind your back
like that's that's sort of you know. And Dan had
to make the joke, and I'm disgusted by it. I
just can we get to break cutest cat there was?
All right? Hey, by the way, Dan, thanks Steve. The

(01:13:36):
only thing more cute than Kitty Boo is Tory Pines. Dan, Yeah, baby,
what a good time? That is? All right? So listen
to this because for the past few years Fox Sports
Radio we've we've been broadcasting live from the Farmer's Insurance
Open at Tory Pines. It's in Lahoya, California. It's beautiful

(01:15:08):
was a controversial comment made by an NFL Hall of
Famer about a current running back in the league. We'll
have the very latest for you. Next. This is the
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio ye b k
R edition. Love this band Finger eleven, Dano, It's called

(01:15:32):
Finger eleven. The band's called Finger eleven. A lot of
people called Brett Farve. That's what they called Antonio al
Fonseka as well. Actually he was Finger twelve, That's who
it was. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer. That is
John Ramos a b KR edition and for Doug today.
Love the feedback on Twitter. You can get Jonas at
the Jonas Knocks I'm at the in Fire on Fox

(01:15:53):
and John at j S Ramo Zerial six on The
Rich Eizon Show, Hall of Fame running Back Jerome Bettis
had some interesting things to say, and that leads us
to and now and on The Rich Eyes and Show,
Jerome Bettis. Jonas weighed in on Ezekiel Elliott's and the
problems that the cowboy running back his head as of late,

(01:16:16):
and Battis has an idea of where those problems actually stem.
That team is in terms of the core players. A
very young guy, so you don't really have any those
guys able to really kind of pull pull them back
and say listen, don't you can't do this, You can't
do that. Listen to me when I say do these

(01:16:37):
kind of things. You don't really have that guy in
the locker room yet to do that, and so they're
kind of flying, um, you know, blind, so to speak,
because you don't have that you know, the quarterback is,
you know, the same age, and um, you know, you
just don't have that guy to to pull him back
and say, hey, you know, shut it down. We we

(01:17:00):
He talked about this recently because there were some people
who wanted to put it on Tony Romo's absence as
an issue, and I just I think that's so irresponsible,
Like maybe Ezekiel Elliott should take up for Ezekiel Elliott's problems.
Did not put it on the Cowboys locker room. Wasn't
Ezekiel Elliott the same guy who after Ohio State lost
a regular season game, promptly went to Twitter and aired

(01:17:21):
out his coach the offensive game plan at Ohio State.
Do you have any Ohio State fans? Yes? And he
went and aired him out, and then it was Cardel
Jones and I'm out of here and now he's in Buffalo.
I think he was like a ninth round draft pick
or something. But I mean, it's not like this guy
hasn't had and I'm not saying he's he's a he's
a bad guy, but he's put himself in bad spots.

(01:17:44):
So I don't know why anybody should be completely surprised
by this. I still don't think he should be suspended.
That's I think that's ridiculous. But I just don't understand
why why former players feel that a edteran quarterback presence
and Jerome Bettis didn't say Tony Romo, but others have

(01:18:05):
why that is such a a a big deal. Um,
maybe a veteran linebacker, maybe a Ray Lewis figure. But
you know what, there are Cowboy greats. Heck Emmett Smith
could say, hey, Ezekiel Elliott, I was once in your shoes.
This is what you've got to do it. It's not
just a Cowboys locker room thing. I mean, there are

(01:18:25):
other people that can reach out and in the end,
Ezekiel Elliott does what Ezekiel Elliott wants to do. So
in the end, it's ultimately on him and no one else,
Whether they wear a star on their helmet or not.
And also, let's let's not pretend like Jerry Jones isn't
a sort of a lenient owner when it comes to
accepting certain players and some behavior that goes on there.

(01:18:47):
Let's not pretend like Jerry Jones also, you know, doesn't
have the track record of somebody who's a bit of
a party guy. I think that, I think there is
there are some elements to that when you're in that environment.
Ultimately does come down to Ezekiel Elliott. But I just
people are stunned by the behavior and stunned by what's
going on there. Listen, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott a

(01:19:07):
couple of times have been seeing you know, hammered, you know,
boozing it up at clubs in Dallas or wherever they go.
Dak Prescott got in a fight on spring break and
and got jumped by a bunch of guys or his
video of that, and then he got popped with a
d u I that somehow disappeared, uh you know, and
you know the night before he had a a camp

(01:19:28):
like he was doing a camp for kids there. So
I mean, both these guys have had some issue I
just I don't think anybody should be totally surprised by either.
I just think it's easy to point the finger at
cowboys locker room. Uh just pointed out Ezekiel elliotts because
he's an adult now and he should be able to
know how to handle things and what's right and what's wrong.
And if you really want that veteran leadership, there are

(01:19:48):
enough great cowboys they kept their nose out of trouble
that could at least help him along. Who's more likely
to start the season for the Dallas Cowboys Ezekiel Elliott
or Elliott from ET. But you're ready to experience a
better way to sell or trade in your car, checkout
True car dot com slash trade today. I now have

(01:20:08):
a Reese's Pieces craving thanks to Jonas. ET tell you
when you're in jail, you want to phone home for sure.
Rodney's here as well. Facebook Live a b KR edition
now that would be a John Romos here as well,
talking all things NBA and Kirk Cousins. It was the

(01:20:32):
Kirk Cousins Radio Network. But it is such an intriguing
situation in Washington, d C. Because Jonas, this isn't like
Kevin Durant hitting free agency or Lebron James hitting free agency. Okay,
this is let's use NFL standards. This isn't Aaron Rodgers
hitting free agency or Tom Brady or one one of

(01:20:56):
the best in the game. There was some talk that
people aren't even sure, including in the Redskins front office,
on how good Kirk Cousins really is. Yet he is
dominating the conversation in the NFL this week by not
coming to terms on a long term deal. Redskins do
their talking on why Cousins wasn't as signed to a
long term deal because of the offer they made. And

(01:21:18):
now you've got a bunch of teams that are lining
up to try to get their hands on Kirk Cousins
at some point after the season. And this is a
guy again that something is outside of the top ten
in quarterbacks in the National Football League, which I actually
would agree with. Yeah, but it's also you look around
the NFL and you see the situations and other teams
are currently dealing with, and they'd rather have that problem

(01:21:40):
than the one that they have. And if it's if
it's difficult enough to find a franchise quarterback at least
you'll take somebody who can quote land the plane. Just
somebody who can get you too, and you can have
some success with. So if you're a team like the Bills,
the Jets, maybe the Rams if they're tired of that,
you know, the forty nine Ers, the Bears, I mean,
all those teams would preferably like to have a Kirk

(01:22:03):
Cousins on their roster because all they're dealing with is
either unknowns or guys that have already reached their their
peak and the ceiling isn't much more than where they're at.
So I just I don't I'm still not understanding why
if you're the Washington Redskins, and it's clear. We talked
to Brady papinga yesterday Super Bowl champion Fox Sports radio

(01:22:23):
host yesterday, and he said, the Redskins don't really want
him long term, that's obvious. So if that's the case,
why don't you trade him, get something anything for him,
then letting him walk at the end of the season
to go take a big money deal somewhere else. Maybe
the Washington Redskins think there could be a bidding war
for kirk cousins services. And if there is a bidding war,

(01:22:44):
not for salary, but what they could get for Kirk
Cousins that could happen at the end of this next season.
Joining us earlier on the program was Alex Marvez of
The Sporting News and our Fox Sports Radio NFL Insider
to talk about the options that the Redskins have after
the season with Kirk Cousins. One thing that's interesting about
this whole thing is that the Redskins may be able

(01:23:04):
to get something out of this with Kirk Cousins. And
when I say that, we're talking about maybe next year
if they if they put out you know that the
you know, they put a transition tag on him, and
then another team wants him and the Redskins are willing
to match. Now the Redskins, you know, of course, then
they may be able to reach an agreement where they're
able to trade that player because they realize that the
agreement is going to be matched. So there are options

(01:23:28):
for a trade on a transition tag with the Washington
Redskins that likely that, yeah, they wouldn't match whoever made
the offer. But then it goes to the fact of, Okay,
if you are an NFL team, how much do you
want to give up and how much do you want
to sign Kirk Cousins too to bring in to be
your quarterback. There are a lot of different places that
he could go. It's so funny because the guy who

(01:23:48):
was saying a couple of years ago, we need to
get this done, we need to get it done long
term because it's going to cost us a lot down
the road was Scott McLuhan. He was the guy who
was saying, we've got to get this done out and
I I supported the Redskins decision to put the franchise
tag on Cousins a year ago, just based on math alone,
just on the finances alone. And everyone was outraged by

(01:24:10):
the twenty million dollar deal that he got, and I said,
don't look at it like a twenty million dollar one
year deal. Look at it like he got the six
hundred thousand the year before and then he's getting the
twenty million. So basically, look at it as a two
year deal, which is a two year deal at around
twenty one million dollars. If you were to pull thirty
two general managers, well, thirty one because the Redskins don't
have one right now. If you were to pull thirty

(01:24:31):
one general managers around the NFL aside and say, hey,
for two years and ten and a half million dollars
a year, would you pay that to find out if
you have a franchise quarterback? Everybody would take that, Every
GM would take that. So the Redskins did it. He
had another strong year. Understandably, he struggled in in some
bigger games, which you know is is that's something he

(01:24:54):
should take onus of But you you gave it another year,
and now you still don't know. At some point, don't
you know whether or not he's the guy? Like, wouldn't
you know by now? Yeah? I think that they do know.
I just have no idea where that organization is going.
I have no idea on what their plan is. And
that's been one of my big issues is I have

(01:25:14):
no idea if they now want to build the defensive
team because Josh Norman is one of the top cornerbacks
in the National Football League, maybe if not the best.
I have no idea if they want to be a
passing team now that they've brought in Terrell Prior. I
have no idea on where the Washington Redskins are going
to go, and it shows in the way that they've
handled kirk Cousins. Now, I should correct myself with the

(01:25:35):
transition tag. The compensation that would be in return wouldn't
have to be any Redskins could just choose not to
match any deal. But fact is they still could be
able to hold on the human twenty ten, which would
blow my mind Jonas, just because of how they've handled
these last twenty four months with kirk Cousins. Now, obviously
different circumstances, but last year you saw Sam Bradford to

(01:25:55):
get dealed late in the off season and he got,
you know, traded from Philadelphia to Minnesota. Do they add
Carson once? And and it was a big trade. I
believe we were on the air when that trade went down,
because I know we were on the air on Teddy
Bridgewater's leg almost fell off. I do know that for sure.
But we talked with Alex Marvez Fox Sports Radio NFL
Insider earlier in the show and out of curiosity, what

(01:26:16):
would it take for a kirk Cousin's trade to still
take place this offseason. He would have to have the
calor salary cap space to get a deal done, and
then on top of that, you'd have to have the
compensation agreed to so you need to have the framework
of a long term deal that's set up, you know,
to make this type of deal, and you know, and
that's something that you'd also have to you know, it's

(01:26:37):
a little tricky as well because the Redskins you can't
you can't have a situation Jonas where, for example, a
team reaches out to the agent, you know, Mike McCartney
and says, look, you know, we're gonna offer this type
of contract in this trade. I mean, that's where you
start getting into the tampering issues and things like this
with Kirk Cousins. So to me, you'd have to make
a deal and then you'd have to hope that you

(01:26:58):
can get him signed long term, even if it's quint
not not. But you still run the danger yourself then
of trading for a player who then doesn't sign with you. Man,
this is the gift that keeps on given. That's where
the compensation just doesn't The Redskins wouldn't get what they
they would have hoped. You would get something in return,

(01:27:19):
but you just wouldn't get what you would have hoped.
There's no way that a team but this way, there's
no way that a bad team right now, that would
need a quarterback would give up anything for Kirk Cousins
considering what could be available to them in the NFL draft,
because it isn't smart. Whatever they give up they would
need back. They would need that in order to build
their roster, to replenish their and and then they're not

(01:27:41):
they wouldn't get that back if it's like what the name?
When the Denver Nuggets traded Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks,
the problem was everything Carmelo needed around him ended up
in Denver for the trade. Yeah, I think it would.
I don't think they would have to give up as
much though. If you were a team, if you say,
gave up like a fourth round pay and then for

(01:28:02):
Kirk Cousins, which is probably all you would want to
give up. The question is, then, if you've given up
a pick, let's let's just say it was a second
round pick for because they are valuable, You've given up
a second round pick which could be a value to
you with no clear notion that you are going to
be able to resign him. And and now, if you're

(01:28:24):
a bad team, you could be sitting atop that NFL
draft with a top three pick, and while you may
not end up wanting to resign Kirk Cousins because you
could take Josh Allen, Josh Rosen or Sam Donald if
if he goes pro. You're also there now without that
second round pick that you mentioned. So there's just there's
I don't know why you would risk risk it if
you are a bad, bad team with that rookie quarterback

(01:28:45):
class there, because it just doesn't make any sense. With
the salaries, with how long you can control them. Why
would you want to pay a quarterback four million dollars
twenty five million dollars a year when you can pay
another guy six million or seven million dollars year and
keep him for the next seven years. It doesn't make
any sense. And I know Alex Marvez talked about well,
you know, then you get into the tampering stuff. You know,

(01:29:06):
teams can't reach out to his agent and say, hey,
let's talk about a contract, should we make a move? Okay,
there's tampering every single day. All right, let's let's just
let's call it what it is. I mean, you think
you think the NFL scouting combine they're really going there
just to watch other players. Stop guys are having drinks
and they're having conversations. We taught would remember Jay Glazer

(01:29:27):
was on with us and Eat Blazer said on the
air that guys have made trades while drunk at the combine.
So this tampering stuff, you can get around it. But
team really wanted him, they could make it happen. I
just I wonder if Daniel Snyder, just because he's got
an ego, would be a pain in the ascid in
this process, because if you were any logical person would

(01:29:49):
look at this and go, this guy doesn't want to
be with our team. If we can get something back
for him, say a fourth round pick, Let's get something
back for him. Daniel Snyder strikes me as the type
of guy to where he would be willing to do that.
But he would call the NFL and say there was
tamper and it just just to be difficult, just just
to cause a problem, to try and stick it to

(01:30:09):
Kirk Cousins on the way out the door, because he's
still pissed that the better selection in that draft wasn't
the guy taken number two overall for all those picks
they traded up for, but it was the guy taken
in the fourth round by a coaching staff that he fired.
So it's it's just it's fascinating me. You brought it
up earlier. It really is one of the most interesting
storylines going into the NFL season of what the hell

(01:30:31):
is going to happen in Washington because it's awkward. The
fact is is that there are a lot of different
options for a guy who some people still question and
I'm not even sure how good he is, and that
just shows also the state of the quarterback in the NFL. Now,
you do a fantasy show here on Fox Sports Radio
six am Pacific time, nine Eastern time, every Sunday. Mike Harmon,

(01:30:55):
the the information guru, the god of fantasy football. Information
we have be covered during the fantasy football during the
NFL season, and not only that, we're talking fantasy right
now to get your prepared for your draft and get
you prepared for the upcoming Okay, let me ask you
this from a fantasy standpoint, does Kirk cousins situation in
Washington impact when he gets drafted? Because I think it
does because it's it's awkward there and and you could

(01:31:18):
there there's clearly a dissension between and those two sides
just don't see eye to eye. Do you see that
impacting the fantasy? No, I I don't just say yes
it'll make me. Yes, I think it really does, especially
because when you don't know the status of how Terrel
Prior is going to be affected and the the health
of of Jordan Read in addition to all of the distractions.

(01:31:40):
Yes Jonas, Yes, yes, perfect, I'm talking about Delete that
dumb question from the podcast. By the way, I'm just
wanting who's taking Kirk Cousins. Like in a twelve team lead,
would league would even be a starter? I mean like
like he would be on he'd be on the edge.
I think in my mind I would never draft Kirk Cousins. Never.
I'd never have done that, And I don't care what

(01:32:01):
you think. I have never drafted him. Way to two
quarterback League, different story, Uh, Dan Buyer Jonas knocks in
for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio. You can
always listen to the show on the I Heart Radio

of amazing, one of the great segments in all of
sports talk radio is making a return after almost twenty

(01:34:07):
four hours away. That segment is next. It is the
Doug Gottlieb Show. He's Jonas Knocks, That's John Ramos, Tim
dan Buyer. I told you this story about fifteen years ago, Jonas,
when I was working in Madison, Wisconsin doing a Badger

(01:34:28):
basketball basketball postgame show, and we were pumped, like absolutely
ecstatic when we found out that we have got a
sponsor for our show. Okay, it was a big, big deal.
Okay it was at the time. It was a concrete company. Okay,
I'm I was jacked up that somebody wanted in on

(01:34:49):
our show. Okay, it was a lot of hard work
for our sales team to do it then, but they
got us a sponsor. Some things are easier than others,
like Khalil Mack. When you're an All pro with the
Oakland Raiders, one of the top young talents in the world,
you can end up having a lot of things thrown
at your feet. And that's exactly what happened to the
Raiders linebacker as he has signed quite an interesting uh

(01:35:14):
endorsement deal. Now, when you hear the last name Mac,
what do you think mac and cheese, Mac and cheese, Macintosh?
Maybe McDonald's, you know, kind of like big Mac. That
is incorrect. And how about Mac Trucks. That's even better.
That's proper spelling. That's a way better. That's way better

(01:35:35):
than what we've got Mac Trucks for Khalil mat How
did this happen when he came into the league. Well,
here's here's the interesting part about it. Draymond Green was
talking with him and sort of threw it out in
passing and said, hey, why don't you should set up
a sponsorship with Mac Trucks. He got in touch with
his his agent. They made a phone call to Mac

(01:35:56):
Trucks and they said it was basically like a cold
call and it couldn't have gone any better, and then
they went in and signed him just like that. I'm
surprised you didn't hook up with the makeup company. May
spelled differently. Yeah, there's a by the way, never ever
ever go with your better half to a max store
because that is easily a half hour gone gone. Don't

(01:36:18):
walk through a mall near one. Don't go anywhere that
is a complete half hour completely gone if you walk
through a Max store. Um. There there's some there's some
news as well on the same advertising front. Yeah, we
were thinking about this because you know the John Ramos Show.
For those of you that haven't tune in before before
you turn off because you heard the words the John
Ramo Show. The John Ramo Show is done on this

(01:36:40):
show when Dan and I fill into where John Ramos
are technical producer. He's a superstar. Um he he has
his own version of sports talk radio that is very addicting.
And so we were thinking, what are some other companies
that we could get to sponsor John Ramos because when
you hear the name Ramos, you go well, if it's
not a soccer player, I have no idea who else

(01:37:00):
there would be out there? Um, believe it or not,
we have found some sponsorship opportunities for John Ramos. That
is correct, John Ramos, How would you like to have
a sponsorship deal with the Ramos Oil Company? Mini Mart
located in Dixon, California. Are you interested? You should be?
They have three five star reviews on Google. Now did

(01:37:23):
they sell combos there? I'm sure they do. I'm sure
they do. And they better have the peanut butter ones. Um,
oh you you go, peanut butter Huh. Maybe maybe John
Ramos could get a sponsor for his show. Doesn't get
any better than this. I think it's the John Ramo Show.

(01:37:47):
It's the John Ramo Show, Ramo Show. This is the
John Romino Sports on Box Radio. Here's John Ramos. He
says exactly what Suzanne tells him to say. Okay, let's
come on, let's get off everybody. Yeah, gooded everybody. We

quite shocking, actually, she said a championship coach on his

he still has it? Chris Paul, Goodbye, l A Hello, Houston,
Doc Rivers? Is that seat hot? Paul? George Russell Westbrook
NBA Finals? Probably not. Kirk Cousins, is he the franchise? Maybe?

(01:41:00):
Maybe not? Washington Redskins. Did I just say Redskins? You
damn racist? Forget Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. I'll pay
to see Ezekiel Elliott throw a punch. Now, that's a
hundred dollars well spent. Aaron Judge versus Cody Balinger. Forget
about them. My money is on that other rookie with

(01:41:21):
all the pub I don't know. I didn't get that
part Dodgers Yankees World Series, Bryce Harper, let your hair flow.
I don't care what people say. Mike Trout, Carlos Correa,
Chris Bryant, what's up a sliding? How would social media

(01:45:26):
You like how I was just general and saying basketball
Like I didn't even say like NBA or college basketball
or are you just all of basketball everywhere? I sounded
like the either the Joe Piscabo Show or the John
Ramo Show, Keen Observations, Chris Paul Goodbye, l A, Hello Houston.
Never follow animal acts or children, nor the John Rabo Show.

(01:45:51):
A story number one Tuesday night appearance of the four
commissioners of the major sports in New York City at
a one hour public war um Mike Florio Pro Football Talk,
noting that this is posted online a one hour video.
But the NBA commissioner said, my sense is on gambling,
the law will change in the next few years in
the US, and I think it's not as much at

(01:46:13):
the end of the day, our leagues being four or
against sports betting. It's more function of being realists. The
quote from the NHL commissioners, I don't worry about fixing games.
I don't worry about anything other than from our standpoint
What does it do to the way young people consume sports?
Do they look at it as a vehicle for healthy
competition with role models or do they look at it

(01:46:34):
as a device to make money on bets? What a
bunch of crap. What does he care abt they consume it?
Just consume more of it. He doesn't want a sport
his specifically to turn into the racetrack or highlight? Can
you also? Can you? And what does it due to
the environment if everybody's sitting there, he says, just worrying
about their bets and not the actual game. Well that, Hey,

(01:46:56):
as long as the TV's on, Yeah, I mean, like
like real blistically, you could be doing whatever the other
thing is he's talking about in arena, Oh in the arena, Well, hey,
as long as they're in the arena, you know, I mean,
because the MLB commissioner has talked about, hey, enhanced fan engagement.
It's it's a different viewpoint. If you are a player,

(01:47:18):
say in the nineties seventies, okay, and maybe you're not
making as much money and you could have some money
thrown to you for like fixing games, and like that
always seemed to be the issue, like now, like who's
gonna be who's gonna be throwing anything to it for
over an NBA game? You know, I mean, like, is
somebody gonna throw a game because they can make an
extra five at three million? Yeah, Adam Silver summed it

(01:47:39):
up perfectly when he said people want to bet throughout
the game. It results in enormous additional engagement with the fans.
That's all this is about. Because I got news for you.
If you're inside an arena and you place a bet
on a game that you're at, you're more likely to
stick around for the end of that game, blowout or not,
because those bets still count if you've got money on it. So,

(01:47:59):
if I'm an owner, I want a betting booth at
every single seat for your cup holders. Give me a
betting booth, or at least improve your WiFi so they
can do it from their phone. I think we've mentioned
the two legitimate concerns, and I think we all agree,
don't we, that it's coming one way or another eventually
in our lifetime. That's just the direction things they're going. Also,
Steve that meeting last night Guinness Book of World Records

(01:48:21):
new World record um most booing, So all four commissioners
at once and most booing ever. Yeah, and apparently, as
Florio said, Roger Goodell had almost nothing to say on
the subject. But the two things to legitimate we have fans,
one more football, the games are legitimate, that the sports
we love don't become prescripted wrestling or anything like that.

(01:48:43):
And also that people still love sports for what it is, sports,
not just a means to an end. You know, I
we're all in fantasy football, but we love football the
sport itself. Tell you what, I know, some people who
have quit fantasy football on the SA they enjoy it
just as much. I have no idea how I zero idea.
I do not get it. If the Seahawks aren't playing

(01:49:04):
in my living room, I mean, if fantasy football wasn't there,
I'm done. I mean, you you don't know, honest to guy,
you you do not know the feeling that runs through
your body when you're down by four points and your
last remaining hope is cadeem carry. Okay, you don't know
what that does to a soul, all right, until you

(01:49:24):
played fantasy I'll tell you what. You you know how
much fantasy football runs your life when your Monday's at work,
are different when you have a guy that night, like
you can't like when like when you're Monday, can't wait
to get home. I got Ryan Tanney Hill tonight against
the Bengals, the guys who have four and five fantasy
football teams. It's like every play it's good for me,

(01:49:45):
it's bad for me. I hate that they can't. It's night.
Oh that's to the other NFL story to pass along
of the press. The Lions were showing the media today
the rent ovations at four Field, and they've taken down
the playoff appearance banners from the stadium rafters. They noted

(01:50:06):
they're not going back up. Yes, they had banners for
just playoff appearances with the Detroit Lions, whether they won
the division or not, whether they won the playoff game
or not. And of course it's the Lions. They usually didn't.
The Lions have just one playoff wins since their nineteen
fifty seven championship. Who made this decision to take down
the bat seen president says they're not going to Yeah,

(01:50:28):
I'm I don't know. The interim se all all did
live from the set of The Golden Girls is the
headline from a p British old British Open hopes depend
on British Open weather. There is a chance of rain
and plenty Friday and Saturday. They're a one good story though.

(01:50:50):
While Bret Snedecker withdrew from the British Open with a
rib injury, the first alternate, James Han had flown over
to the UK just in case he had a chance
to get it. Now he's in music static Dan you
want to you want to tell me? You want me
to tell go ahead? It's the Open Championship, Steve Headline
from Associated Press British Open twice. They're not paying me,

(01:51:13):
just saying you justin Thomas is true. Story is wearing
a half button sweater with a tie tomorrow which would
be now today in England? Are getting close to it?
Are people really gonna get bothered if they say British Open?
The Open Championship likes to Brandon as the Open, so
because if they keep pushing their luck, I'm gonna call
it the British Nights. Pretty soon it will just be

(01:51:34):
the It's almost Thursday. I should correct my time zones.
Almost Thursday. The ratings are out from Summer League basketball
and they're up over for the various ESPN channels this summer.
In fact, Monday's championship with the Lakers winning, was up
over double from last year's final, and in fact even better.
When the Lakers Celtics matchup came this month battle of

(01:51:56):
first rounders, they got over a million people. Why are
you guys talking summer league on sports radio? Nobody cares
about that? Shut up? Well there's sure proof. Also, some
people say why are Yankees Red Sox on TV again?
Because it was up for all four networks that had
national TV for Yankees Red Sox last weekend, including FS

(01:52:18):
one on Saturday, that was up over from last year.
ESPN for example, they had a Monday Red Sox Toronto
game that got about seven thousand when they had in
the Sunday night slot Red Sox Yankees two and a
half million viewers. It is a good it is a
great rivalry out the press that the press. That was

(01:52:40):
my hot take. Transcribe that and send it out Yankees
Red Sox. It is a great run and put it
in close. Yeah yeah, we box. Sports radio broadcaster says
if Yankees Red Sox rivalry quote great and if you
want to add to that, just to spice it up
a little bit. I agree with Dan Knox. I agree,

(01:53:03):
Ah he is Dan, he is Dan Buyer. I am
Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports Radio. Real quick, before
we get to break, Let's go back to Steve to
Seger for some breaking news. Breaking news from Fox Sports
on the Ezekiel Elliott case. Official statement released from Dallas
p D the at the assault offense that occurred this
month at a bar has been suspended. The case suspended

(01:53:26):
due to lack of complaint. Dallas detectives quote made several
attempts to contact the victim through various ways, but at
this time have not been able to make contact and
to date, no witnesses have come forward to provide any
additional information about the incident. Case suspended. Interesting, I tell
you jumping into that Salvation army bucket, that was the move.

(01:53:50):
Roger Goodell wanted to give that case two games. Hey,
you know that a Commissioner Goodell. I want to apologize
on behalf of the show that was Dan Buyers. And
if you want to take up a complaint with Dan Buyer,
you can tweet him at j S. Ramos r S
Another party showy. As long as everybody thinks that the
kitty boo jokes are yours oy? Al right? So up

(01:54:13):
next though, we have got a major NFL preview for you.
This is unlike anything you'll ever hear on sports talk radio.
Do not go anywhere. We've got it for you. Next
Doug Gottli Show on Fox Sports Radio. No Doug today,
So you've got us b k R edition. We'll be
with you actually through the end of the week. Doug's
doing the Herd on Colin Cowhard Show here on Fox

(01:54:33):

It be on Kirk Cousins Willether, it be on the
Cavaliers and Kyrie Irving or the John Ramos Show. You
can always tweet as Jonas. They can get you at
at the Jonas Knocks. John your Twitter handle is hold
Little Call waiting gun at j S. Ramos zero six

(01:54:54):
and you can get me at Dan Buyer on Fox
Throughout the week. We've been having some fun with the
National Football League and we continue to do so are
you ready for some football? Okay, it's the end app
L divisional breakdown with Dan Buyer and Judas Knocks. Oh yeah,

(01:55:19):
we're talking divisions. Where's my compass going taking it off
yesterday it was it was pointing north. Okay, where's the
compass going now, Johnny Ramos, where do you see it at? Oh,

(01:55:40):
by the way, that's that's not a compass, john Let's
see who is going to be least in the East
and FC? Interesting? You know all these other shows, they
don't come up with, no catchy think he is like none, No,

(01:56:01):
none of them do. None of them do except us
except the least in the a f C. Ease, who
is going to be the seller dwellers? And the American
Football Conferences Eastern Division? Jonas well, Dan, you know, because
there aren't specifics as to seller dweller. All we're talking
about is the least in the East, right, So my

(01:56:24):
least in the a f C East is going to
be the New England Patriots. Interesting. You want to know why? Okay,
because they will lose the least in the a f C. Yeah,
go ahead and send that out, Johnny Ramos. A f
C East, of course, Patriots, Dolphins, Bills and Jets. Who's

(01:56:45):
the least in the ANC East? Did anybody hear a
plane fly by? What it's the Jets? Of course, Johnny?
Is that helicopter? Shane McMahon crashed in today. It is
a Jet John's is the Jets are the least in
the a f C East. Okay, I'll tell you what
you guys need to You need to freshen up on

(01:57:06):
some stuff. Okay. Uh. The least in the ANC East
is the Buffalo bill Okay. Oh, I thought we were
talking about least amount of sober fans at their That's
where the Buffalo Bills. Yes, have the least amount of
sober fans for their games. Yeah, but they did throughout

(01:57:27):
the most billdos last year they did there. It was
it was it was like point five a home game,
I think it was last year. What about to the
National Football Conference in the East Division, of course, the
Cowboys reigned supreme a year ago with the Giants hot
on their heels. You've got the Redskins and Kirk Cousins

(01:57:50):
and of course the Philadelphia Eagles, who is the least
of the NFC East Jonas. So there's so many places
you could go with this. You could talk about overrated
Carson Wentz. You to talk about Brandon Marshall and the
immediate dysfunction he will cause the Giants. You could also
talk about the Redskins and what a disaster they have been.
But I've been on this for months. Dan Oh. The

(01:58:10):
Dallas Cowboys got no shot at the playoffs. They are
the least in the NFC East. The golf clap not bad.
I know that, Johnny ram moost least in the East Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Eagles.

(01:58:30):
It's funny because the band also Mozart lawn because when
the lawnmowing was going on, the music stopped in their
back to East in the NF least in the NF.
Who needs John Denver when you got John Deere by
the way, one minute, just to let you guys know,
everybody talks about the greatness of New York. Not with
the Giants there. You know why, John, what you mean

(01:58:55):
you meant? Okay? Already The least in the NFC East
is no doubts, no doubts. The Philadelphia Eagles, Okay. And
the reason why is this they have the least appealing
uniform in that division. Seriously, go back to the Kelly Green.

(01:59:16):
I don't know what this, this sort of this sort
of evergreen black sort of deal is. Give me some
Randall Cunningham, give me some jaws. Philadelphia Eagle Green. We're talking,
Mike Quick, bring those jerseys back and you won't be
the least of the NFC East. I can't believe you
wentz there, Dan, it did, and on a Wednesday. That's

(01:59:38):
how we do it here on Fox Sports Radio. I
forgot to tell you. Oh yeah, okay, so I was
