You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What up America,
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to you from
beautiful sunny southern California. Oh, we have a major, major
issue in studio here, major issue, major major coffee spill. Oh. Man,
(00:46):
we got piper to dune. They have a piper a dune.
All right, let's figure this thing out there we go. Man,
what the heck happened? One stray arm? What a mess?
Doug Gottlieb Show brought to you by Farmers. Uh. At Farmers,
(01:07):
we've seen almost everything, including spillage of coffee, expensive coffee
right before the beginning of the show. And this is
supposed to be an airtight lid. When it was game time.
Have an experienced player help you stay ahead of the game.
Put their experience in a play at Farmers dot com.
I'm a sucker for expensive coffee, really expensive coffee. Do
(01:29):
you have any idea how much you're wiping up in
terms of dollars? That's amazing, It's so sad. Thank you,
Ryan Music. Devastated by this. Well, this is a great
question because it actually relates to our opening segment, which is,
can Gottlieb do a show without coffee? Which is a
lot like can the Warriors win a series without Kevin Durant?
Don't believe me. Here's Steve Kerr yesterday when asked about
(01:52):
the possibility of Durant playing in Games one or two.
I think everyone needs to slow down a little bit
on the Kevin stuff. He hasn't even stepped on the
floor yet, so you know, we've we've tried to remain
somewhat vague because the injury is really um sort of
open ended in terms of how long he's gonna need
(02:14):
to recover. But I think in doing so, uh, maybe
people have gotten the idea that he's gonna come back
and he will be Willis Reid or something. Yeah. And
by the way, Willis Reid didn't actually play well when
he came limping into the NBA Finals. Thank you, Ryan Music. Yeah,
that's that's bad. Can God let do a show without coffee? Yes?
(02:34):
Can the Warriors win without Durant? Yes? Does that make
them better without Durant? No? Does that make this show
better without coffee? The answer is no. I think our
segments done here. We can almost roll the break, right, Ramos.
We do this all the time, though, right, Like the
New York Giants won a Super Bowl without Phil Sims,
(02:56):
I don't remember anyone saying, you know, they're better without
Phil Simms with Jeff hoss Stetler. No, that's not actually
the case. The Patriots have won a Super Bowl without
Rob Grenkowski. Did anybody say, well, that makes the Patriots
better without Rob Grenkowski? No? No, um. And even in basketball,
(03:19):
even in basketball, the great Michael Jordan's and I think
Michael Jordan's the greatest player of all time, the Great
Michael Jordan's the first year when he retired, that was
the year that Scotti Pittin refused to go into the
game because Phil Jackson ran a play for Tony ko
coach and Cook coach, by the way, made the shot
the ultimate baller move. You do realize that the Bulls
(03:42):
had the best record in the East that year. Did
that make the Bulls better or you know, somehow underrated
without Jordan's like, no, no, you don't win without having
a really good team. You don't win without having a
really good culture. And I understand you're gonna say, you're
gonna see her going, well, look at the Calves without
(04:02):
Lebron James because they're trying to be bad, right, Yeah,
they sucked this year and tonight they're in the NBA
Draft lottery and they got a great shot of getting
the number one overall pick, but that was because they
wanted to be bad. They scrapped their roster and then
Kevin Love was hurt or excuse me, Kevin Love was
(04:23):
injured and he was hurt, barely played, and it's more
beneficial to them to lose games. So this whole idea
of of you know, Golden State being just as good
or better or even different, they are different. Now. I
(04:45):
think it's going to be fascinating to see what they
choose to do with the rest of their roster if
durant Um doesn't return, Can they build back the strength
in their numbers because some of their players, while super talented,
are getting older, like Andrea Goodala Is like they have
(05:08):
to basically not play him much of the regular season
in order to save him, especially with Sean Livingston with
his knee has been the league for twelve years, but
he seems to be kind of hanging on by a thread.
But we're gonna do this thing tonight. We're gonna play
this game tonight where see Warriors are better without k
They don't need Kevin Durant, Like, yeah, they do. They're
(05:32):
playing the Portland Trailblazers, who, by the way, or without
Nurks there starting center, And I don't think anyone would
really say they're better without Nurkics. But when given opportunity,
guys can make plays. Guys are guys can step up
and put themselves in position to make plays, and they
(05:56):
can still achieve great things together. You know, we we
kind of did this whole thing with Carson Wentz and
Nick Foles. Nick Foles won a Super Bowl. Did you
watch Nick Foles when he started to start this year.
The reason Carson Wentz was rushed back into duty wasn't
because they wanted to rush Carson Wentz back into duty.
(06:18):
It was because Nick Foles wasn't good enough, And ultimately
that gets exposed Ultimately, the same thing would happen with
the Golden State Warriors. Whether it's over eighty two games
or a couple of NBA Playoffs series. They're gonna need
Kevin Durant. Now. Does the construct of their team change? Sure,
(06:41):
sure it does, but it also signific It also signifies
um that they're going to need to replace him with
multiple pieces because there's nobody like Kevin Durant. But that's
what we're gonna do tonight. Tonight it's gonna become a
referendum on whether or not Kevin Durant really is the
(07:03):
greatest player in the game, because the Warriors will likely
win without him. We're not even gonna factor in the
fact that Portland's playing without their starting center. Portland just
played on Sunday in a game seven in altitude, didn't
even get a chance to go home and grab new underwear,
and now they're playing in what's a bad team that
wants to play fast against the best transition team in
(07:24):
maybe the history of the NBA, in the Golden State
wars It's a terrible matchup for the Blazers. That's why
they've consistently gotten dusted out of the playoffs by these
Warriors with or without Kevin Durant in the past, and
yet we're gonna do this thing tonight. See let him go,
let him go, let him go. Wait oh nat um Okay.
(07:50):
The Eagles knew that Carson Wentz was better. That's why
they stuck by Carson Wentz. And that's why Nick Foles
is playing in Jacksonville. And the Warriors know they're better
with Kevin Durant, that's why they said as much. And
you can take in a well, hey, they're thirty and
four when Katie doesn't play and staff does play. Well.
(08:14):
First of all, when did we ever relate regular season
record to postseason success? We would all agree that in
the regular season the Warriors, when they won seventy three games,
they were a different team in that postseason, right, they
didn't just they had to come from three games to
(08:35):
one down to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder that year,
remember that, And then of course they gave up a
three games to one lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers. So
even though statistically you'd think by the regular season they
were dominant in the regular season, they were, but it's
like a different sport. So first, don't take regular season
(08:59):
records to mean anything about real basketball, about postseason basketball. Secondly,
I have no idea who they played, and if you
want me to go back through it, I can point
out the fact that Katie didn't play in a lot
of the games that they were going to win. Anyway,
it was the marquee games in which he played, and
marquee games, you're not gonna have as good a record, duh.
(09:20):
And when guys that aren't normally playing as much that
are rested and are motivated by getting their opportunity, much
like the Boston Celtics of last year, they can play
a little bit above their level for a short period
of time because they want to show the world they're
better than the backups that they normally are, even if
their backups for a reason. The Patriots weren't better without Gronk,
(09:45):
even though they won without Drunk. The Giants weren't better
without Phil Sims, even though they won without Phil Simms.
The Bulls weren't nearly as good without Jordan's even though
they won with out didn't win championship, but they won
regular season games again Michael Jordan. And though the Warriors
(10:06):
one game seven and it was remarkable, it was a
virtue as second half, especially fourth quarter by Steph Curry
and Clay Thompson was Game six. Clay, it's like kid
ourselves better with k D even though tonight the narrative
if they win is going to be they don't need him.
(10:27):
Embarrassment of Riches NBA inside of Tom hab Astro joins us.
Up coming next, what does he think about the Warriors
without Kevin Durant? And he reported a potential Lebron James
for Ben Simmons trade. How likely is that we made?
All right? We may argue a little bit. That's up
coming next. Be sure to catch live editions of The

great stuff, always stuff like the A number or stat
(11:36):
and UH, I just I love his digital content. Um
his latest two pieces about Zie Williamson being the best
UH and NBA prospects since Anthony Davis and the other ones.
About the similarities between Kauai and m j oh Kawai
and m j I'm in I've heard others say the same. Um,
they're both black, they both have big hands, they're both
good at basketball. They both apparently make game winnings. Is
(12:00):
that where it ends? Hes there more? Um, there's more.
When you talk about defensively, a lot of perimeter players
are really good on the offensive end, like Steph Curry,
Kobe Bryant. Um, But I think when you talk about
perimeter players who can get you thirty five a night
and also locked down the opposing best score, the list
(12:21):
isn't very long. It's Michael Jordan's and it's Kawhi Leonards,
Kobe Bryant really good defensive player, never wanted Defensive Player
of the Year award, but Kawhi Leonard has two of them.
And you've got to imagine the list of guys who
can do that, defend at a high level and score
at a high level. Man, it's a very short one. Michael,
in my opinion, it's Michael and Kauai um are are
(12:44):
we Look. I know Kad doesn't play great defense the
entire time in the regular season, but he has stepped
up before injury, he had stepped up his game. And
if you look at the numbers when James Harden was
trying to score on him, uh, they paled in comparison
to when when Kevin Durant didn't guard him. Um. Where
where in that list is Kevin Durant in terms of
(13:04):
does he play defense? Does he not? I mean he
plays good defense. Does he play great defense? I mean,
I think he can in spurts, but he's never been
on an all defensive team in his entire career. So
I mean, I think you can say Kevin Durant is
a good defender, um and he's done fairly well against
James Harden, like you site, but he isn't the guy
(13:26):
who guards James Harden full time. That's Andrea Guadala and secondly,
Clay Thompson is the guy who guards him. Uh if
it's not biggy, so I think in spurts he can
lock down a defender. But Kawhi Leonard, when he did
to Ben Simmons and what he did to Lebron James
and the finals, I think you can make the case
that no one hits peaks on both ends of the
floor quite like Kawhi Leonard. Uh, outside of Michael Jordan's.
(13:51):
And I know people aren't ready to hear this because
they don't have, you know, signature plays from Kauai before
he hit that game winning shot. He's not a house
whole name, like kids aren't going to the nearest store
to get his jersey. But if we're talking about pure production, uh,
Kauai is up there with with Michael. And I know
he didn't get number one pick. He wasn't a lottery pick.
(14:12):
He wasn't a guy who came into the league with
a lot of recognition. But man, it's hard to argue
with the fact that he has scored uh as many
points this series against the Philadelphia seventies six ers, more
points than any any player in a seven game series
since Michael Jordan's so, I mean, that is incredible when
you consider how good he is on the other end
(14:33):
of the four No, yeah, yeah that And that's the
point I tried to make with with Colin Cowherd, my
colleague here at Fox, where he said he doesn't make
anybody better, Like, well, actually, if you shut down the
other team's best player, you're making your team better. There's
a lot of different ways in which you can make
your team better. It's not just what your assist told
it was, because we just go by how many assists
(14:54):
you have, where you're like, all right, well, then Russell
Westbrook makes everybody better based upon you know, all those
collectives stats. There's a there's an entire other end to
to the floor. Tom habit Stro joining us on the
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio, which makes the
match up with the Milwaukee Bucks even more interesting, right,
because now he's gonna have to shut down Janice, who
(15:14):
is like a he's he's like a bigger version, a
newer version of Kauai Leonard. Right, he's long, he's active. Now.
He didn't start out as a post player the way
that Kauai did when he was in high school and
early on in college, but still evolving into a point
guard much the way Kauai is evolving into a perimeter
shooter and player. What do you think of that matchup? Oh,
(15:36):
it's gonna be so good. I mean, I can't wait
to watch that, And not just because of Kauai versus honest,
but you talk about someone who's improved next to Kauai.
Pastel Sakum is such a good player, probably the most
improved player in the NBA. He's six nine, he's super long,
he really gets after it defensively. So it's not just
gonna be about Kauai guarding you, honest, It's gonna be
(15:58):
those two uh guard darting him and Janice is so effective.
He had more unassisted dunks than any player on record,
and by that I mean just getting the ball at
the top of the key and no one being able
to stop him in route to the rim. He is,
you know, shock But with Handel, it's incredible what he does.
And if he can stay out of foul trouble and
(16:19):
if he can keep his his turnovers to a minimum.
I think this is the Buck series because they have
a deeper bench. They have Malcolm Brock Brock in back.
And I think the one thing that the Toronto Raptors
didn't have in that last series, which was really exposed,
was their bench. Fred VanVleet, Jeremy Lynn, uh, you know,
Serge Ibaka, not a really deep bench, and I think
(16:41):
Milwaukee has that over the Toronto Raptors. I think the
Bucks in seven. Yeah, I like the Bucks as well,
the best defensive team in the regular season, best defense
team in the postseason. And I like their bench as well.
And I feel like, um, I feel like, you know
VanVleet as great a story as he is, and we
he got a path passed last year because of injury.
(17:02):
Like it's been a little bit exposed. It's a little
bit above his level. Is that fair? Yeah? And and
look and Lowry to and and Lowry to, like right, Like,
let's be honest, if Kyle Lowry was awesome, they wouldn't
depend on Fred Van Bleet to step up in such
a major way. Yeah, that that's absolutely right. And look,
Kyle Lowry is one of those uh, you know, no
(17:23):
stats all star guys like Shane Battier where he's not
gonna rack up a ton of box scores stats, but
he does a lot of things like changing taking charges
they don't don't get picked up in the box score.
But he's absolutely someone who needs to be, you know,
at another level if they're gonna win this series. And look,
you know, Brook Lopez has to step up. Um, you know,
Malcolm Broggen's coming back from the injury. There are a
(17:46):
lot of question marks on the buck side. But Janice,
you know in space, Uh, it's gonna be an amazing
series to watch. And I know they're fans were wanting
to watch, you know, Steph Curry and Dame Lillard and
k D Draymond over there in the web estern conference.
But if you want to be a basketball hipster, go
watch every minute of this Toronto Milwaukee series because this
(18:07):
is what the NBA is gonna be like in two years,
dominated by Janice, dominated by Kauai. That's what the future
of the NBA is. Okay. So that brings us to
the draft lottery tonight. Um, I love Zion, Okay, I'm
not gonna freak out and say he's Lebron. I think
he's more Draymond meets Barkley meets Larry Johnson meets Blake Griffin, right, Um,
(18:29):
I think the fact that you have to name five
people Doug is so it doesn't that show that he's
just so unique, which is I was. I was on
Tom I was on a Cleveland radio station before and
they said, is he the best prospect? I said, no,
he's the most unique. Like the reason that I mean,
he's just he's a you know, I don't know if
the once in a generation, but yeah, he's He's like
(18:51):
Kelly LeBrock in uh in weird science, right, like if
you take little pieces of all the things you like
about all these people, he's got that. Um okay. But
but then you see a John Morand and maybe to
a lesser extent in R. J. Barrett, but a John
Morant who's a dominant you know, though he's not as
big as Kauai or clearly as long as you honest,
(19:15):
he is a six ft fo freak athlete point guard
that you feel like you give him the ball and
he'll create something for himself or for others. Isn't he
more likely to lead a franchise than a guy who,
though super super unique, I'm not sure that he's a
ball dominant guy like I almost feel like Zion is
better with a really good team, whereas Jaws better to
(19:35):
build a team around. I do think this is a
two player draft. I'm not a fan of RJ. Barrett,
not a fan of Cam Raj. I know he's he
would have had a much bigger reputation coming into this year.
But for r J. Barrett, I just can't get behind
a guy who struggles from the free throw, a shooting
guard who struggled at the free throw line and three
(19:57):
point line. If you're gonna be a high volume score
in in the NBA, you need to be efficient. And
he's not efficient at the free throw line, which is
beyond me um and the three points the three point lot,
and those are two big question marks from the end
here at Duke and I don't think he proved himself
at that level. But I love John Morant, I love
Zion Williamson. But you're talking about a guy who, yes,
(20:20):
there is no script here, there is no precedent for
for Zion Williamson. I think that makes it hard for
us Doug to project him going forward, because you can't
lean on Blake Griffin, you can't lean on Lebron, you
can't lean on Charles Barkny and say that's his trajectory.
So you know, I just did a big number of
videos that I just published on my Twitter feed, and
(20:41):
it pointed out that Zion has the highest player efficiency
rating since Anthony Davis, and actually higher than Anthony Davis
fourty point You're forty point eight are, which is higher
than Anthony Davis, higher than DeMarcus Cousins, higher than any
Power five player coming into the NBA over the last decade.
(21:01):
So productivity wise, better than Anthony Davis, better than DeMarcus Cousins,
with a jump shot, much better assist rate. I think
people are so surprised watching the NT double A tournament
at how good he is handling the ball and making passes.
And I think he's already a step above Anthony Davis
and booking Cousins coming into the league, the top prospect
(21:22):
big man process coming into legal over the last decade.
I love Zion Williamson's potential at the NBA level. All right,
let's let's get to the rocket of this rockets the
Warriors taken on the Portland Trailblazers. You know how this works.
The the KD haters or the people that that don't like, Uh,
this juggernaut of a team they win tonight, Oh they're
(21:45):
better without Kevin Durant. Do you think they're actually better
without Kevin Durant. I don't think they're better. Um, I
think they're as good. You know, at basketball, as you know,
it's a team sport, and some players, despite a lot
of big numbers, or despite big scoring numbers, the fit
and the chemistry with your teammates and the style of
play it matters. I'm not gonna sit here and say
(22:07):
Kevin Durant was one of the best players of all
time is making them a worst team. But I talked
to Steve Kurry the other night after they won the
series against Houston, pulled him aside and said, you know,
does this team look different to you? And he said, well,
it gets back to the twenty sixteen years. Um, without
Kevin Durant gets back to that seventy three win team.
(22:28):
But he knew going into that game that the Warriors
are thirteen and four when KD fits and Steph plays.
It's a stat that he brought up, unprompted and volunteered
to me saying, you know what, I know how good
this team is without Kevin Durant thirty and four, So
I know that it's not necessarily they're better without Kevin Durant,
(22:49):
but they're so good with Clay Thompson and and Draymond
Green and Steph Curry running the show that I think
it's gonna be just as hard for Portland to win
these games here without Kevin Durant. They're that good when
he's not playing because it's a different style of basketball
and it's got Deph Curry, the most efficient score of
all time in the ball was in his hands for
(23:10):
more possessions. Does Frank Vogel work with Lebron James? I
don't know. Is that a question? Is that aloaded question Doug, like,
does he actually coach Lebronson? Because I don't know. Uh,
you know, I was talking to TM the other night
when there are Game seven between the Sixers and and Raptors,
and I was asking him what they thought about the
Sixers offseason, and one GM told me, don't be surprised
(23:33):
if their talks between the seventy Sixers and the Lakers
for Lebron James because of the fact that Ben Simmons
is on a much longer trajectory in terms of potential.
He doesn't have a jump shot yet. And if you're
the Josh Harris, the owner of the Philadelphia seventy Sixers,
you get impatient and try to strike a deal now
(23:53):
to pair to ELMPID with Lebrown and JJ Reddick and
try to load up for a championship run, or you
wait for Ben Simmons to develop that chump shot. And
that's a question. I don't know if it's going to happen,
but a lot of people around the league are very
interested to see what the Sixers do, especially when it
comes to Lebron games, because that that situation in Lakerland
(24:14):
is not good. It's not I agree, But I also
think there's the reality of Lebron James just moved to
Los Angeles, his families here. I just don't see him
picking up and moving to Philadelphia. I just don't see
like there's a reason they want have to He would
have to. He he doesn't have a no trade clause.
It's not his call. I understand. I understand, but we
also know the way in which this business works. If
(24:35):
he doesn't want to go, he just says he's not going, right,
Like you can trade for whoever you want. I'm just
not going. Like that's the reality of at his his
stature in the NBA, you go like, hey, what do
you think, Like, I'm not going. You can, you can
trade you everyone. I'm just not going. And I do
think that's a that's a legit reality. Yeah, And and
(24:56):
you know what, this year it didn't go well for him,
So maybe there's a little bit as you nility about
the situation there with the Lakers and Magic stepping down
and they're striking out on Tylou and Monty Williams and
whoever they tried to look at and ended up with
Frank Bogel. I like Frank Vogel. He's a good coach. Um.
I think he got a you know, I think it
was a disappointing tenure there in Orlando. But then I
(25:18):
was covering those minami heat teams against Indiana and they
had a lot of respect for Frank Vogel. But I
just don't know if he's the type of coach right now,
um who's ready to take this Lakers team to the
next level. So we'll see, but I just don't think
it's a great fit. I much prefer to see Frank
bog get another shot with an emerging team, not one
with Lebron James. No, it's a it's a hard it's
(25:39):
a hard, hard, hard hard deal. Um our hard deal. Um. Okay.
The thought is that at the end of this kd
ends up in New York. Should he want to play
with Kyrie Irving? I don't think so. I think with
that market, that media market, the fact that both guys
have a dancy to play is so ball at the
(26:02):
cost of the rest of the team. Um, I don't.
I don't think that's a good fit. Um. You know,
Kyrie Irving in Boston, everyone thought that it was gonna
be such an easy, easy situation for him to come
in with Gordon Hayward. It gets to the Eastern Finals
without them, just imagine what they would do with Kyrie
and Gordon Hayward. But in fact there it passes per
(26:24):
game dropped by forty this this postseason, dropped from three
twenty to two eighty from last year to this year.
Passes per game the ball stuck in his hands a
lot more. And I just don't think that's a good
fit for Kevin Durant. It would seem like those would
be two silos, you know, not working together. Um, and
(26:45):
I'd imagine that that's just not gonna fly in New
York if they do not optimize each other, if they
don't make each other better. I got to imagine that
Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are gonna get a lot
of heat there in that market. And I just don't know,
if you know, the way we know he's very sensitive
to the media, very sensitive to criticism. I just don't
see it working there in New York, especially with Kyrie,

We'll be back to the Doug gottlip show in ten seconds.
But first a word from farmers at Farmers Insurance. We
know every windshield collision has a unique sound beetle bird, poop, drone,
(28:53):
seen it, covered it. Dr Farmers, we are farmers under
written my Farmers Jock Fire Exchange cent afhiliates products unavailable
in every state. So you heard Tom habit Strow talk
about how the forty passes per game less by the
Boston Celtics this year is opposed to last year, and
so I think prevailing wisdom is right. Like if I
(29:16):
had no insight at all into the Boston Celtics and
what went wrong, it's subtraction by addition to big name
players kind of ruffled the egos of others, and others
roughly the egals of the star players. First, ye have
(29:39):
Gordon Hayward, who was the prize get two years ago
in free agency, who unfortunately broke his ankle in the
first two minutes of his first game as a Boston Celtic.
He was coming back, he was getting minutes he probably
didn't deserve, as they were playing the long game as
opposed to the short game. So that's also taking away
(30:01):
from somebody else's minutes. And and there's just the emotional
toll it takes when you're watching a guy get minutes
that you don't think he necessarily has earned. And then
there's Kyrie Irving who needs the ball, plays his own,
plays kind of his own way, and um, and isn't
(30:25):
always somebody who moves the basketball who lets others create.
He's good enough to do it on his own. And
you would think that might ruffle the feathers of Terry Rosier,
who took his minutes when he was out for the playoffs,
and of other players because they got the ball less
(30:47):
as they waited for Rosier to create more, as they
waited for Irving to create more, and it didn't happen.
Here's Terry Rosier earlier today, when asked if he would
return to Boston with the current roster. I have to go.
I might have to go. I put it with uh
with a lot this year, so uh, you know I
(31:07):
said what I said after the season. I think we
all know that I won't I'm not trying to step
in into that again. M hm. He's saying he sacrificed much.
Was another tweet. Another quote that he had after the
season was over. Here's Terry Rogier on who's the blame
for the team under achieving. I feel like it's a
(31:29):
little bit of both. I feel like that along with
the with the coaches, you know, them treating Gordon and
and and Kyrie. I wouldn't say different than everybody else,
but you know, I feel like they just treat him
like they was on that level where there were no
justments that could be made because they are who they are,
and we never figured it out. We never figured it
(31:50):
out after that m hm. So he puts the blame
all across the board. But if you listen to the
way he says what he says, he was happy with
this role, and look, lots of bench guys are unhappy
with their role. And I'm sure that on some level
he knows if everybody comes back, they can't afford to
keep him anyway. So the idea that Terry Rogier thinks
(32:11):
he's a starter when most people in the league don't
think he's a starter, that's not groundbreaking stuff, But it
does paint the picture that the Boston Celtics are exactly
well who they we thought they were, right a talented team,
but she had young guys in Tatum and Rosier who
had been gassed up by the media thinking they were
better than they were, and their ego was hard to
(32:34):
keep in check. You had, you know, Brad Stevens, who's
stuck between, you know, playing a superstar or a star
player who's not quite healthy, and a superstar player who
might not be all that bought into making everybody else better.
And then you have Kyrie Irving constantly trying to prove himself, Hey,
we're really better with me. And then you have Gordon
(32:58):
Hayward who's not as good but trying to improve and
trying to just continue to improve on the way on
the way there. So I get all of that. Basically,
the Boston Celtics are exactly who we thought they were,
and it's one of those teams where chemistry doesn't. Like
all teams, chemistry does matter, and it doesn't mean you
(33:20):
have to like your role. But it's pretty obvious Terry
Rogier was not bought into his role. He was not
about being a star player in his role he wanted
Kyrie's role. He still wants Kyrie's role, even though no
one thinks to this point. He's proven to be that
level of player. What are the chances the Blazers upset
the Warriors tonight? I'll tell you next. Be sure to

(34:25):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show, Doug
Gotland shows about If I discovered Car. We treat you
like you'd treat you, but he got today, Doug, the
game is one of the chances, all right. I'd love
to do one of the chances for the NBA Draft lottery,
But we actually know the chances fourteen per cent for
(34:47):
the Knicks, Calves, and Sons to get the first overall picks.
So we'll look at some other NBA things. What are
the chances, Doug, the Blazers win more than one game
in the Western Conference final series with Golden State. I'm
gonna say forty percent chance. Chance went two and two
this regular season against the Warriors. Blazers won two, Warriors
(35:08):
one too. Yep, Um, Look there's a I think less
than fift chance five is about right, But I would
I do you give him a shooters chance? And you
gotta figure I just I normally game once the game
you can steal. I just kind of think they're gassed
by a seven game series in altitude. And as much
(35:28):
as the Warriors were run down some you know, they
were off Saturday, Sunday and Monday. In terms of playing,
that's a lot of time to recoup. But they are
without KD, without Uh, without DeMarcus Cousins. What are the chances, Doug,
the Bucks beat the Raptors in five games or less?
(35:50):
That was pretty good as well. Again, seven game series
were you out, and I think it's pretty good matchup
for the Bucks. But I would say five games are
a lot of I'm gonna say only a thirty percent chance,
because I do think Toronto is gonna be very good
at home. All right. What are the chances, Doug, that
Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard gets a head coaching
job in the NBA? I think pretty good. There's you know,
(36:14):
there's talk of him obviously at his own moderate Michigan,
and he's actually online the favorite to get the Michigan job.
I don't know if that's the reality or just simply
you know, social media speaking there. I've heard that's not
the reality, but that that doesn't mean that my sources
accurate anyway. Um, I think there's a thirty five percent chance.
(36:34):
I know he's up for the Minnesota job. There'll be
other jobs that are in fact open chance. He was
also a candidate for the Lakers job, we had heard
at one point, So we'll see if Minnesota is the
landing spot. Switching gears to the national Football League. What
are the chances, Doug, that Josh Rosen starts Week one
of the NFL season at quarterback for the Dolphins? This
after Ryan Fitzpatrick was taking first team reps in minicamp
(36:58):
and looked like the best Dolphins quarter back in that
mini camp. What are the chances Josh Rosen starts Week one?
I'm gonna say pretty good, I'm gonna go se chance.
I think they have to write like, you have to
get as much of a look on him as you can,
and if you there, you've got three more years of
under contract. Sure, but if you stink this year with
(37:21):
the quarterbacks that are available in like, you've got a well. Look,
the problem with the problem with starting him is if
you pull him, you put Fitzpatrick in, then you know
it's hard to Patrick, right, Yeah, So I do understand
the idea of Ryan Fitzpatrick and then pulling Ryan Fitzpatrick
for Rosen, Doug switching to Gulf. What are the chances
(37:43):
that Tiger Woods finishes in the top ten of the
PGA Championship this week? Hasn't teed it up since he
one of the masters last month. Top chance not great?
You know, it's a it favors length and Tigers not
as long as he used to be. That is, that
(38:04):
is true. Tiger also wearing a winter hat today as
many uh not everyone, but uh more than a few
golfers donning a winter cap at Beth Page black Is
the attempts are a little chilly? Is this PGA Championship
is taking place in May? Finally May for the first time? Finally, dug,
What are the chances that the Angels leave Anaheim for
a projected one billion dollar stadium in Long Beach? This
(38:27):
has been a topic of conversation. Angels hope to have
an answer by the end of the year and if
they're gonna stay in Anaheim or maybe go somewhere else,
But what are the chances they leave Anaheim for Long Beach? Chance? Chance? Um? Look,
I think the idea for Long Beach is a good one, right,
Like view, build a stadium in downtown Long Beach is
(38:51):
really really nice. It actually is on the beach, And
I think the area in which where they want to
build the stadium would be right there in the middle
of downtown, which would be amazing, amazing, like game changer
for that town. But like, look, it's California and that's
just a it's just a hard sale for people. They
just don't get that's how things get done. Like like, well,
(39:11):
San Diego wouldn't build one for the Chargers. Actually they
built one for the Padres first, and the Charger was like, yeah,
we want one right next to their They're like no,
no, no no, no, no, no, we'll do it for them.
So I think it would be great for Long Beach.
I just don't think they'll do it because people, you know,
they make it up in their own mind what the
smart decision is, even though it's a dumb decision. This
(39:33):
is game time on the Duck Godly Show. Like at
the end of the day, Anaheim figures out a way
to get it done and they problem. The problem with
Anaheim is like I don't think they can build it
over closer to Disney. I think they gotta build it.
They just gotta redo it on the same site, you know,
completely gut and redo, and then they'll have to play
somewhere else for a season or two. Remember they played
(39:57):
in the l A Coliseum before, they played in in
Dodger Stadium before are So Music. Do you think they move?
I do not. Yeah, I was surprised that testing thing
didn't go through. There was all that land where the
base used to be, when the Marine base used to be.
You could have built it down in Irvine by the
Great Park that there's a bunch of that. There's land there,
(40:18):
but apparently nobody wants, you know, eighty one dates. That's
how Bay I think baseball is. The baseball financially is
the most prosperous locally, just is because of the number
of dates that you have brings people in. I still
think ultimately Anaheim keeps it. It's just kind of a
game of chicken. Oh yeah, now you're gonna build up
(40:39):
one point with toss you one point. Once you put
a b next to it, people in California freak out,
like no, that's a lot of money. It is a
lot of money. It also makes a lot of money.

(41:42):
He's the number one overall pick from last year's NBA Draft.
I wonder what he was doing last year when the
lottery took place. I'll only point this thing out. How
come the NBA Draft lottery doesn't have the old ping
pong balls? Why are we missing that? All right? We
used to have the envelopes, which some people accused the
(42:04):
NBA of tampering with the frozen envelope, which led to
Pat Ewing miraculously ending up with the New York Knickerbockers.
Now we're just told this is the way it's done.
Trust me. See this very serious looking dude from Arthur Anderson.
He watched us make sure it was done on the
up and up. Every lottery that I've seen State lottery
(42:29):
has pink pong balls. There's hundreds of millions of dollars
at stake. Why can't the NBA Draft lottery have ping
pong balls. I'm not the only one who thinks this.
I anyway, this feels like the Zion Williamson sweep Steaks.
And last year is the DeAndre eighton sweep Steaks. He
(42:50):
went number one overall and he joins us in the
Doug Gottlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. DeAndre, where were
you last year during the NBA Draft Lottery? Well, I
was here Chicago, So you're you're you're in chicag What
do you remember about it? I did a lot of work,
a lot of media. I was very busy the whole week.
(43:14):
As soon as it was Phoenix, did you automatic like listen,
there was some there was a little bit of question
as whether or not they take you number one overall.
Did you like immediately start planning out? All right, so
it's gonna be Phoenix. I've been there before. I know
a lot about Phoenix. Uh, that's the plan. Yeah, when
I saw the Phoenix got the lottery pick, he already
knew I was already locked in, already had in my
(43:35):
mind what I had straightened out aready, So yeah, the
plan was already you know, set out what was different
about your rookie year than you thought going in um
no um the way how I and then as an individual,
you know, people see us as you know we lost
a lot of games and stuff like that. Well, you know,
(43:58):
I learned something about myself. I never thought I would.
You know, I didn't accept losing, but I learned from it,
you know, and always look on the dive side of it.
You know, I learned from it. And yeah, uh taught
me a lot this year. Yeah, there's a lot of learning.
I guess that's the guess A good way, right, you
did lose, you learned a lot. DeAndre and joining us
on the Doug Otlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. How
(44:20):
I mean, like, look, I know you lost your last
game in Arizona, but you guys didn't lose a lot.
So I know, you know, you lost in the college
and an AU, I mean in high school and AU,
but not a lot. So how do you how do
you process looking up at the scoreboard and having less
points than the other team time and again. How how
hard is that to take? M hm, I mean it's tough.
(44:40):
I mean, uh, being a competitor, you want to win
every game. So I mean, I'll just trying my best
tone in every game. You know, watch film, ask questions,
you know, um, working the game, and just compete every night.
You're bringing your good luck charm Gabriel with you. For
people who don't know who Gabriel is, this is an
(45:01):
incredible person, right, Gabel is amazing to me. He's an angel. Huh.
He is a great spirit and match his mind, his
energy is just phenomenal. And the kid knows motivation. He
knows motivation at such a young age. He knows you know,
he knows his limits, he knows, you know, what his likes,
and you know, he knows his his dislikes. And you know,
(45:24):
he's an interest in kid. You know, I got to
you know, build a relationship with him. And yeah, he's
pretty exciting. Um, you we're watching. We're gonna watch the
Warriors and the Blazers, two teams you competed against during
the year. Of course, no DeMarcus Cousins and no Nurkics.
So neither team has their starting center and a coach.
Of course, your kids, who's maybe the best starting center
(45:46):
in the West, just lost in Game seven. What are
you to Let's start with this Portland team. What's the
most impressive part of the Portland team from a guy
who's played against him? Oh, well, Portland's in general is
uh one of the tough teams I've played against last
season this season, And yeah, they're pretty tough. They have
(46:07):
something to prove to me, and I mean not to
meet to the world. They made it pretty far. They
showed that they can do it, and yeah, there's no
turning back for them. You're just the hunderdogs trying to
you know, make that point. Uh do you think the
Warriors are better without k D? I'm coming on now
and I don't know. I don't know. The severy need
(46:27):
three and something with him without them, So, I mean
they're they're they're good regardless so far. Uh, here's the
big question. Right, If you guys get the number one
overall pick, most people think, well, you should pick Zion,
But if we look at your roster man, you guys
need a point guard in the worst way, and there's
John Morant, Who do you think is the better fit
for your for your roster. Whatever we need to win,
(46:53):
that's you're gonna You're gonna go whatever we need to win.
What do you think you need to win? You played
in the league. Uh No, I'm all learning. It's just
I'm still a rookie and I still got a lot
more in what you know to bring to the table
on winning on the winning end of it. So this
will be the first step. All right, fair enough, DeAndre,
Thanks so much for your time. Best of luck with
(47:13):
you and Gabriel. An amazing story of guy who's had
multiple heart transplants and you spent the day sight seeing
with you. Thanks so much for joining us on Fox
Sports Radio. Thank you all right, DeAndre, and former number
one overall pick all rookie team guy had a statistically
had a very good season. Obviously, it's got to be
hard to go and lose all those games. That will
be interesting with with Phoenix, right, it's a team that's
(47:38):
already fired their coach, a coach who was hired by
the Way, and he had coached Luca don Chick in
uh in international competition, and so the thought was, well,
like why wouldn't you draft Luca and Luca is likely
going to be the rookie of the year, and then
they draft DeAndre and who was most people's number one prospect.
(47:59):
Now they'll have the chance probably to draft to point guard.
We don't know if they'll have it first. I would
still take Zion. I would well it still take Zigon
even if I'm number one overall and I could take
a a job morand um, I think you're you're better
off going after a veteran point guard anyway. I think
(48:20):
there's other ways in which you could do it. I
might even go after Mike Conley, a guy who probably
makes a little bit too much much money and might
be a little bit past his prime. But it gives
you a solid playoff caliber point guard to go with
a spectacular litany of of other talented guys. Yes, rhyme
music with the athleticism of both DeAndre and Zion. If
(48:41):
the Suns get the pick and the end up on
the same team, doesn't that sort of look like it
could be where the NBA is sort of headed, where
instead of just being so reliant on, you know, point
guard ball handlers, you have really athletic players that can
play down low, but can also maybe stretch the floor
or if they develop a bit of a jump shot
(49:02):
that size that goes with athleticism. Yes, uh, it's really
important for people who understands more than just being about
having a big guy can shoot threes. You've got to
be able to cover ground laterally and defensively or defend
the rim. And there's a there's a if there's something
to pick apart with Deandres he learns the stretches game
to be a three point shooter. It's that he's not
(49:24):
a great rim protector, and he's not you know, he's
not a great perimeter defender, but more more importantly, at
his size and length, he's just not naturally a DeAndre
Jordan's shop blocker. Um. I think the league has already
gone that way, where you have hybrid defenders that can guard.
That's really the secret to the Warriors and their their successes.
(49:45):
You have Draymond and Iguadala and to a lesser extent,
Sean Livingston and now Kevin Durant and guys at all
walk in long arm, super athletic, super smart who can
guard multiple positions, which is, by the way, why I
like the Celtics, even though they didn't have the chemistry
obviously to get it done. The seventies sixers will keep

(51:55):
Marcus Thompson authored the new k D book Joins Us
in about one minutes on the show ten minutes on
the show, season came to an end last night. Ramos
in uh not so great fashion. Dude, look good up there,
laced a single. We just never developed a catcher. He
played catch in the first and he was he was
actually pretty good, but we allowed five runs five limit
(52:16):
per run limit per and then by the time he
got in, we were down eight to three and we
had just too many errors. And then he got so
frustrated he was struggling to throw strikes. Is we got
run rolled us. So it came to an end. But
here's the like I take. I'm a I'm a silver
lining guy. So a couple of things. One, he did
(52:39):
not pitch well, but um, he had a great season pitching.
I mean he's when he's throwing strikes, he's at that
level pretty unhittable for good players. When he he gets
somebody who a catcher who you know, he'll move it
up and down the strikes. One like we just struggled
to just catch it. Um and he's got not for
ten years old, unbelievable pick mood first base. Like he
(53:01):
can raise that leg and throw home and throw a
strike and raise that leg and come and get you
if you you're leaning the wrong way. I don't care
what person is that first space. Whenever a left hander
lifts that leg up, you always make that first move
back to first. But often times even when you make
a step back to first, you're still like you can't.
Actually it's like it's like there's a force field around
first base. But we got I mean, this is how
(53:24):
it is. How good he got in three pickles, he
gets kidding run down and we got nobody out in
any of them. Were bad. We're just bad. Last night
it was I heard I was talking to a couple
of people from down to that area. I said, it
was definitely the coaching who was coaching, who was coaching,
But you know he he uh he hit the start
of the ball twice. One time it was a single,
(53:44):
one time it was a line drive cop by the
second baseman. So that's baseball, as they say, right, I
don't I don't know if you mentioned this or he's
left handed, but is he bad right handed? Okay, yeah,
he can hit left handed, but and we should have
I should let him, made himhit left hand against like
the bad pictures this year, but we didn't, and so
he just he's gone like a year without hitting left
hand because we moved here. He used to switch hit,
(54:06):
but we played him up and the pitching was so
fast that felt like, hey, let's just get in the
best chance to succeed, and we almost so in this
we have all stars, and when we get to if
there's eventually an offseason, we'll turn around. Let him hit
some left left handed because one of the things that
you do realize is we drive a baseball your hips
and you're you're what's called your top hand, you know,
(54:28):
which is that that backhand. And his left arm is
clearly stronger. So he hits everything. But in terms of
like explosive power, I think he'd have a little bit
more if he was hit and left handed. But you
gotta get towards a little bit more fluid, comfortable swing,
so he'll get there. Um, but here's the best part,
Like this is the part that I dig as a parent.
We get done and he's only seen three pitches, Like,
(54:51):
we only got two at bats because the bottom of
our lineup is struggled. I'll be nice struggled, and um,
so we get on. He was like that's it. I
was like, that's it, But like, you walk too many guys,
We had too many errors. We had, it's like, all right,
can I hit some balls? So we stayed for like
an hour afterwards with a couple other kids. You know,
(55:12):
it's messing around, right, So that's kind of what it's
all about. Although you still want to you still want
the kids to he and he wants. He wants to win.
That's not the problem. He just may wants to win
too bad anyway. Um, but yeah, maybe it was the coaching. No, seriously,
I mean, look, do I think at some level there's
accountability towards players. Yeah, we have kids. You gotta feel groundballs,
(55:33):
you gotta throw strikes. But it's also how we use guys,
where we put guys, who's the catch? Who was the
first place? Which brings us to the Philadelphia seventy like
I'm willing to to tell you, Like I think Joel
Embide needs to lose weight. I think Ben Simmons needs
to start shooting jump shots. Um, I don't believe the
(55:53):
seventies six years they made. Oh well we'll got for
Lebron James. I don't think Lebron James has any desire
to leave l A. I just don't. I just don't.
And um, I just I sit there and I'll tell
you I don't. I don't think he wants to move.
(56:13):
So the seventies six years are keeping Brett Brown as
their head coach, and some people are like WHOA. And
I even said, like, this is a job that Brett
Brown was not truly hired for. He was hired as
a stabilizing force to just survive and let these guys
grow and build trust and help them evolve and become
(56:35):
better as they were trying to be bad. But you know,
when you have a jone beads a kid man. Don't
get me wrong, I like, I actually like the emotion
of crying when you're when you lose. My son cries
when he loses. Sometimes he cries while he's losing. I
don't like that part. But that's something that you have
(56:58):
to kind of grow out of. It's something you have
to grow up from. Nothing said Joel Embiad is still
a kid, like how he was brought too inconsolable tears
after losing Game seven. And you know when you when
you come from out of the country and then you
(57:19):
go to Gainesville one year, and then you're in uh Lawrence,
Kansas for a year, and then you're rehabbing for a
year or two and then you're playing like all of
these things, like there's a bunch of different forces in
your life. Here's why it makes sense for Philadelphia to
stick with Brett Brown. Brett Brown's gotta get better. But
(57:39):
there's some level of accountability which is placed on the
doorstep of the players. And it's not just a Joel
Embiid thinks he's a good coach, Like what would he know?
He hasn't played for anybody else in the NBA. But
it's the idea that they have a they have equity
built in trust, so you could who are you gonna
(58:04):
bring in? You know who? He has that built in
level of trust. That's one of the things that's fascinating
even about the Lakers higher like am I blown away
by Frank Vogel? Like no, but tell me who's better?
Who's out there? Right? Like give me the savant? Who's
(58:26):
out there? Who? Okay, that's fixed? Like I would hire
Jeff van Gundhi, but there's gotta be some reason Jeff
van Gundhi likes what he's doing now and hasn't gotten
back in. And my guess is he probably wants a
little bit of control. So so I kind of like
what Philadelphia did by not firing a guy. Did they
(58:46):
have three empty possessions? They did? Is that all Brett Brown?
It's not? Is some of it Brett Brown? Sure he
can improve, They can improve. And by the way, in
the NBA, you can bring in offensive coordinators who put
in systems and and put part of it is the
limitations of a guy like Ben Simmons. They try to
have him involved, and those guys hadn't played together a
(59:06):
bunch and maybe more than anything, what happens if that
shot doesn't go in? Right, that shot doesn't go in
and the Sixers win in overtime? Are we firing everybody
again in Toronto? Did it become a bad idea for
Toronto to go for it and trade away to mar
de Rosen in order to get Kawhi Leonard, who they're
gonna lose anyway? We can't be that result oriented. Philly
(59:34):
went for it and they came up short. Is that
all Brett Brown? No is? Does some responsibility lie at
his feet? Yes? Is there a definite guy who's out
there who you know will be better? I don't know one,
do you? And so instead of worrying about result, this is.
(59:57):
This is part of the old trust the process. This
is very very normal growth, very normal growth for an
NBA team. You gotta taste feel the pain before you
taste the champagne. You just do. Young teams lose early.
Sometimes it's worse to have that early success. Look at
the Celtics, they had early success last year and they
(01:00:22):
couldn't get along. Look at the Oklama City Thunder. They
had early success, got to the NBA Finals, and when
they got to the NBA Finals, they were like, you know,
James Harden, he wasn't really all about basketball. Let's trade
James Harden. And the expectations were ridiculous. You want to
(01:00:43):
keep getting better, keep progressing, keep finding the right fits,
have your star players, keep getting better. And Bean wasn't healthy.
Jimmy Butler and Terrell Harris were I mean, and Tobias
Harris were late, late ads. The bench wasn't that good,
and yet they were one crazy made shot away from
(01:01:07):
forcing over time in Game seven on the road. I
actually don't think it's a bad thing or a wrong
thing to stand by your head coach. Yes, right, music
possibility that they would have been more likely to pull
the trigger if Monty Williams was still available and hadn't
you know, seemed to have agreed to the Sun's shob
(01:01:29):
or do you think it's more likely that Monty Williams
knew they were going to be keeping Brett Brown, so
he decided to take the Sun's job. Uh, I don't know,
I don't, I don't, I don't know, you know, Like, look,
I love Monny Monny's I don't know him that well.
I just he was at Notre Dame before me. And
(01:01:52):
if you guys know this, like money Williams couldn't play
basketball for a year and a half in college because
he had a hard rhythmia, and came back played play
in the NBA. Of course, he had the tragic death
of his um was his wife in a car accident.
So um, I mean, I don't know anyone who doesn't
think Monty Williams is a good coach and a good guy.
(01:02:13):
But it's not like Monty Williams. You know, when he
got fired in New Orleans, it was because they felt
like they topped out with Monty Williams. It was essentially
kind of for the same thing that you would fire
Brett Brown for, So you know, and like look um
Mark Jackson, like Mark is Mark Jackson? Define definitely better
(01:02:36):
than Brett Brown. Like wh who's out there, who you
can go and get, who you feel good about? Who
has equity with these players? And the answer is not. I
I don't know if anybody so, I don't know if
it changes if if Monty doesn't take the Son's job,
I don't know. I mean, is there clamoring for Tyler?
(01:02:57):
I don't know. Tyler also has health issues. People forget
his last year with the with the Calves, he had
to not coach for like two months because he had
health issues, struggles with anxiety. Like, yeah, city of Philadelphia
doesn't feel like it's a great place to coach. If
that's your issues. It gets you to dan buy or
find out what else is going on the world sports,
getting you set for a busy night in the NBA
(01:03:18):
starts with a draft lottery, as the Knicks, Calms, and
Sons have that four team percent chance to land the
first overall pick. Den It's Blazers and Warriors Game one
of the West Finals. No Kevin Durant for Golden State.
As for Rodney Hood, the Blazers forward considered questionable tonight
with a knee injury again, tip off nine o'clock Eastern time.
Turkish Television is refusing to broadcast the Western Conference Finals
(01:03:40):
because of the criticism leving against the government by Blazers Center,
and as Cantor s Sport is the company that broadcasts
the games. They have also said in a statement if
the Blazers make the NBA Finals, they will not broadcast
those in Turkey either. Memphis a d Tom Bowa has
stepped down after seven years on the job. Well in
the NFL had coach Bill Belichick's gonna call the defensive
(01:04:00):
place for the Patriots this season. Brian Flores called them
last year for New England. He's now the head coach
of the Miami Dolphins. Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested
on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence last night in
l A. He allegedly got into an argument with a
woman in a parking lot. Witnesses say they shoved the
woman to the ground. Reports a. Urias was book last night,
(01:04:21):
held overnight, and released this morning on twenty thousand dollars.
Bond Indians taking it to the White Sox ain't nothing
playing in the bottom of the seventh inning on the
South side of Chicago, and this news in advance of
the PGA Championship this week. Tiger Woods his girlfriend and
woods his Jupiter, Florida restaurants are being sued by the
family of a Florida man who was killed in a
(01:04:41):
drunk driving accident. The lawsuit claims that the restaurant overserved
the man before the deadly crashed. The family of Nicholas
Immisburger claims the restaurant also destroyed video evidence of Emmasburger
drinking at the bar the night of the crash. Emmasburger
was also a bartender at the Jupiter, Florida restaurant. What
way that part? Okay, So he's a bartender at the restaurant,
(01:05:03):
but he went there as a customer and he drank,
He got drunk, got behind the wheel of his own car, died,
and his family is suing the restaurant. They're also claiming
that they knew his problems with alcohol, so they kind
of knew the situation that that he was in and
they continue to serve him. And now the family is
claiming that they destroyed video evidence of the man drinking
(01:05:26):
at the bar. I've been to that restaurant. By the way,
there's I actually know the manager, great dude, good people
that I've come in contact with um And it's a
real thing Like this is the look I got again
dying in a I don't know did was anybody else
hurting the drunk driving accident? I believe it was. I
(01:05:47):
think it was a single car wreck from my understanding.
But that's the case that lawsuit filed. Attorney speaking, somebody,
somebody can break into your house, hurt themselves, breaking into
your house, and sue you and win. That sounds just
(01:06:07):
like you want. You want reforms that I'll get behind.
Tort reform I'd get behind. But look if they if
they knowingly destroyed the evidence that had him being overserved
because they they knew a lawsuit could be coming, that
would be sinister and that would be worthy of any
sort of lawsuit. Yeah, we'll have to see how this unfolds.
We'll be back to the Doug Gotlip show in ten seconds.
But first a word from Farmers that Farmers Insurance. We
(01:06:29):

(01:06:50):
Fox Sports Trading. The book is Kevin Ranch Relentless Pursuit
to Be the Greatest k D. It's written by Marcus Thompson,
the second best selling author, and he joins us now
on the Doug gotlif Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um,
not your first book, as we've to mention your best
y KD. The the honest answer. I mean, I can't
(01:07:12):
give you the the non honest answer because the people
who were paying me one at KADI, they were like,
we have money and we want a Katie book. You
want to write it. I was like, let's go, let's
do it. When did you start? Uh? In earnest I
would say, probably like March last year? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
March of last year. Sorry, it was it was due. Uh.
(01:07:33):
I turned it in October November, like six months. That's
that's good. That's good, that's good work. Okay. So, um,
you had obviously covered the Warriors. He had written a
book about Steph, so you knew kind of the landscape.
But what was different about what's different about k D?
The dude than you thought before you started writing a
(01:07:55):
book about k D. The dude well number one, his
his life was so drastically different than staff. Right, it
was just I mean it's night and day, uh his
but his was a lot like mine, Like there were
a lot of similarity. So it was definitely more uh
it was it was more touchy feeling for me, like
personally like experiencing it and kind of understanding what he
(01:08:16):
went through because it was there was just so many
similarities like the you know, growing up in poverty, having
death like ravage of life, like you know, dealing with
you know, parents that are not around, you know, that
type of thing. I could relate to what he was,
to what he went through, and I didn't. I didn't.
I didn't really catch that vibe with Steff because you know,
(01:08:39):
he had a very ideal situation. So it was like
getting getting to Katie's story just knowing you got to
navigate that pain was much different. You got to figure
out a way to talk to ask about hard stuff
like like like death and somebody dying. Right, So that
that was different. Um, he's a lot more talking tiv
(01:09:00):
and and friendly behind the scenes. Then I think people
know he's he's very chill, he's very easy to get
along with, Like you know, he's an ultimate like good dudes.
You know, he asked about your family. He'll have a
conversation with you about just about anything, and you know,
then he'll get on the podium and he'll go at you, right,
But there's times he's like, come at beyond the podium
(01:09:20):
and then afterwards we'll chat about whatever. So he was,
he was definitely personable throughout the process. Why do you
leave Oklahoma City? Why do you really leave? I think
it was a confluence of things, right. I don't think
it was one thing. I think it had to do
with he But I think the overriding thing was he
felt like there was a greater relevance for him, right,
(01:09:43):
instead of like almost like being mired in the the
stuff that is that that was the franchise that didn't
have enough money, that always had a reason to fail.
I think there was a part of him that just
wanted more, something bigger, like something greater, and he saw
a chance to make history. And there's a lot of
little stuff teammates, the quality of his teammates, you know,
(01:10:06):
the chance to be his own man, like all of
that was in there, but just knowing his story, I mean,
the dude has just been like on this trajectory anyway,
so it felt like it was almost natural and out
of his hands, you know it. It's fascinating. I think
I think his and and this is again I'm kind
of been tipped off by other people who know him,
(01:10:27):
and that like part of it was just, hey, look, man,
I think I'm the best player on Earth, and the
only way to do that, to show that is to
play against Lebron in the finals and to get kind
of the space to get him one on one where
I can show everybody I'm better than him. And he
actually did that two consecutive years and then didn't feel
like he anybody said like, hey, you know what, that
(01:10:48):
guy is actually better and that's what's caused some of
this kind of defensiveness towards the media and at times
towards fans. That is that Is that a fair representation? No,
no question, I agree with that. Do think, Like That's
what I was saying, Like he He's like, yo, I'm
at the top of this thing here and everybody kind
of needs to see this, right and it doesn't feel
(01:11:09):
like I can get there from here. So I do
feel like that's exactly why he went. And after he
did that, like he didn't get the respect that he
probably thought he was getting because he clearly I'll play
Lebron and still was like, oh but this, and oh
but that. The I part though, is I actually think
it's coming now. Yes, that's why. That's who I've been saying.
(01:11:30):
Marcus Marcus Thompson joining us. His new book is called
k D Kevin Durant Relentless Pursuit to be the Greatest.
What's crazy about it is now everybody's like, hey, you
know what the best player is Kevin Durant, And now
he wants to Now he's like, I already kind of
like got one foot out the door, you see. That's
what I'm that. That's that's what makes it interesting, right,
that's the plot twist, like out of nowhere, almost right.
First he had the little Patrick Beverley thing and I'm
(01:11:52):
Kevin Durant, you know who I am? And then since
then it's been like, oh man, this dude was a
great He's dropped fifty. Steph Curry is calling him the
best player in the world, right, Draymond Green is calling
him our leader their chant for him m v P
in the Bay Area like bay Area Loves He's Steph Curry.
Fans are saying, man, his dude, it's the best player
of the team. And now it's like all of a sudden,
out of nowhere, everything that he felt like he deserved
(01:12:15):
and probably did deserve is happening. How does that impact
the decision? Now? Like, that's not nothing, I don't think.
I don't think that. Why did you print the books
deserve chant for a sequel? Marcus Thompson joining us here
on the dou Gottlieb Show. Um, I likened him a
little bit too Kareem. Now, obviously I think off camera
(01:12:37):
he's more personal than Kareem, but he's crazy, crazy bright.
But he also and I think some of it is
his size, Like I don't know if he's really seven
feet tall, isn't he? And I don't know people who
know this. He's listed at six ft nine, and Kareem
used to have a lot of trouble with you know,
people saying he was seven ft two, like he just
there's a certain awkwardness to it and kind of similar
(01:12:59):
to Kareem, Like Kareem six time m VP six time champion,
and no one mentions Kareem as the greatest player of
all time. You know, he scored more points than anybody
has ever played the game. Like there's a little bit
of Kareem there in terms of like social he's so
bright yet still awkward in some social settings. And and
and really is adamant about making sure you don't attribute
(01:13:21):
his greatness to like this genetic anomaly, right, Like it's like, Yo,
I'm this good because I'm this good, not because I'm tall.
And I do think there's some similarities there. And from
what I know about Kareem, and I was a little
bit before my time, at least the height of his career,
but Kareem seems feels like a guy who just feels
a lot, right that all the things you read about him,
(01:13:43):
like like he hurts, and you know what I'm saying,
that he gets happy and like he feels what's happening
in the world, what's happening out there. I think that's
a great correlation because the rent, that's one thing I
learned about him, Like he feels stuff like and he's
open out it, like, you know, like he gets all
sappy about basketball and team play and and benches players
(01:14:07):
playing where were like he's sappy about that stuff, like
he feels it. And you know, he gets mad when
people are calling them out and and and criticize him.
He wants to fire back. There's a real like kind
of human quality that you can that I can pick
up from Kareem by reading about him, and also can
see and Kevin Durant and maybe the modern day like
(01:14:27):
millennial social media guy can kind of still communicate through that.
And it felt like maybe Kareem didn't know how to
communicate through that or didn't feel like anybody could connect
with him that way, but he definitely felt like somebody
who feels a lot and it matters to him and
and and he was very human in that way. Okay,
explain to me the rich climate thing like that. I
(01:14:48):
I understand that their their business partners. I understand that
he's had him invest in all these things, but it
is kind of a weird relationship, right Like k d
uh Lebron has all the guys he grew up around
kind of around him and he's kind of lifted them
up and now they have big time jobs. Whereas this
(01:15:08):
is somebody that k D has come to know and
now they are close like brothers, even though they're from
really different backgrounds. And I'm not sure most people in
the league. Uh love that, love the idea of that relationship.
What have you come to learn of it? It's it's
as weird as you think it is, right, it's as
unlikely as you think it is. I think that the
(01:15:29):
connection is that Rich Climbing is from a hip hop
background and Katie is a hip hop head, right, you know,
he signed with rock Nation. He's a big jay Z
fan and that's where that's where Rich Climan comes from.
And they He had a friend from where he grew up,
a rapper named Wile that Rich Climbing managed, so they
kind of have that. I do think it's a bit
(01:15:51):
of you know, right place, right time. And there was
a moment, there was a part in Kevin ranch career
where he went from like young, like Oklahoma City dude
too all right, let's transition into star right into into
a superstar with with Brand and Mogul aspirations, and Rich
was part of that. It is very weird. I wonder.
(01:16:12):
I definitely wondered throughout this process, and one of my
questions was, how did he get this spot? Like there
could have been a million people lined up who want
to be this for Kevin Durant. Why Rich Climbing And
I do think like Rich Climbing came along at the
right time, at this transitional period in Katie's life and
and and Katie is a very loyal guy. And if
you get to him like you got him like that,
(01:16:35):
that's how he is. He's really like like Quinn Cook
is his best friend right on the in the Warriors
locker room because they got this DC, this Prince George's
County connection. Like once he wants you with Kadi, he
with you. And I think Rich you know, proved worthy
to earn that respect from kd Is he the yoko
though for for the Golden State Warriors it should be right.
(01:16:59):
This is gonna be it because Rich Climate is like
juggling all these options. And really that's what we're talking about.
Is Katie part of the perk of being where he
is that he gets options right, whether it's standing with
the Warriors or going to the Knicks or Brooklyn or
the Clippers. And Rich Climate has got to manage this,
I think right now, and you know, the move we
(01:17:20):
can question the move to the Warriors, right, But in
the end it seems like it it kind of works
for the end game. But I think right now Rich
is on the clock on this one. Like what he
does next. I feel like it's going to determine like
riches value in in this league, in this industry that
he's in that he never he didn't start in, but
now he's trying to be a major player. And if
(01:17:41):
he if he pulls it off, hey he's a player. Now,
he's one of he's one of the ones. But if
he doesn't, I don't know that's gonna be tough. Last thing,
likelihood Katie plays in this series. What's the likely hill
Portland wins the game? I don't. I don't think he
plays until they lose. That's that's what I really think.
I don't think he's playing the first two games, and
(01:18:03):
if they're up two, oh, they're not playing them in
game three. And then if they're up three oh, there's
just no need to play him because he's still hurting.
His cap is still bothering them, and I don't think
they're gonna put them out there in pain unless they
have to. So it really comes down to the can
Dame get hot one game in the Oracle one time
for for Oakland and you know, give us a one
last memory from a town dude in Oracle Arena in Oakland. Yeah, no,
(01:18:27):
I mean that's there's a lot to it, right with
with with him coming back home with the Curry family
and then then playing you know, the thirty one in
four record now without without without Kevin Durant last thing.
Marcus Marcus Thompson wrote the book k D. Good Dude, Uh,
great dude, good dude or kind of different dude. How
would you if somebody asked you, how would you describe
(01:18:47):
Kevin Durant would probably all of the above. That's what
makes him like, That's what makes him like such this
multifacet individual. Like there are some things Katie does that
are like and and nobody even knows, but it's like, oh,
that was like the coolest thing ever. And the people
he can give me one, can you give me one
real quick? But he just random Like there's one there's
a kid who's like basically in the hospital dying and
(01:19:11):
k D sees a twite a tweet online that the
dude was a fan, and he goes to the hospital
and surprises him and shows up at his party, Like
that's like who does that? Right? Just off Twitter, and
that dude and that family would say he's a great dude, right,
And then there's some people who say, man, he's a
good dude. I like hanging with him. And then there's
some people who would say, Yo, this is a hard fella.
(01:19:33):
He is difficult. So I think what makes him unique
is that he's all of it and he's perfectly willing
to be all of it instead of trying to be
some kind of pr concoction, which I actually respect. Actually
I do. I do too. The book is KD picking up.
Thanks so much of joinings Marcus, Thank you, pleasures all mine.

explaining what happened between the Cardinals, GM, Steve Kim, and Rosen.
The only thing that like truly did kind of frustrate
me through this whole process that I still haven't heard
(01:20:58):
from my old GM. Talked to him for months before,
still haven't talked to him unuch after. That was kind
of frustrating, But for the most part, I'm just ready
to put that whole chapter behind me and keep pushing
on and and playing football. You still haven't talked to him,
you trade him, you haven't talked to him. Like, I
get that you're moving on, but stilln't talk to him.
(01:21:20):
I just look, they may end up. This is a
lot like the U c l A basketball hire the
Lakers higher in that the move might ultimately work, right
to get Clip Kingsbury, to get him Kyler Murray, that
might ultimately work. But the process what a messed up process.
You hire a coach and a general manager, I mean
(01:21:42):
in an offensive coordinator, and you you draft a quarterback.
You don't give him a good enough offensive line. By
the way, you spent twenty million dollars in Sam Bradford
and like six million dollars on Mike Glennon as his backup,
and both you get rid of both of them, and
evenge You put Rosen in his place, but he doesn't
(01:22:02):
have the support around him. You change offensive coordinators, you
fire the coach, you hire a college coach because he's
supposed to fix Rosen, and then you get rid of
Rosen without even telling him why or having any sort
of parting, meeting a relationship. It might all work, It's
very possible. It might all work, but the process not
(01:22:25):
a good one. Not a good one. All right, we

to you by Farmers. At Farmers, we've seen almost everything,
so we're down to cover almost anything when it's game time.
Having experienced player help you stay ahead of the game.
But their experience in the play a Farmers dot Com,
we are Yes, I know they're thirty one and four
(01:23:32):
and there anyone in flo without giving a red dig
outa Beau Dougdarrozza. Without him, you don't know what you're
talking about the rising without him listen that they are
really good. You know, I would expect nothing less of
a guy who's Steph Curry did win the m v
P twice. And as much as you want to go
(01:23:55):
like m v P means best player in the league,
Derrick Rose won the m v P. Let's not to
take away from steps maybe it's to give it. The
VP is about who had the best season, not who's
the best player right with the best season, not who
had the best player. And value is in fact really hard,
as at one time Lebron James point out, value's a
(01:24:16):
really hard thing sometimes to calculate what exactly is your value.
I mean the best example that is Kawhi Leonard. We
had Tom Hapbstrow on earlier Today's from NBC Sports and
he was like, Kawhi Leonard guards the other team's best
player and is the leading score. Like and my point is,
(01:24:37):
if that doesn't have value, and you're an elite defender
against the best players in the game, while being an
elite score that has that brings not just value, but
that makes your team better. No, maybe you're not a
shot creator for other people, you're a you're a possession
ender that has value. This stability to say, hey, figure
(01:24:58):
it out. That's what he does. So the Warriors statistically
very good without Kevin Durant and probably gonna win to
night their seven point favorites against the gassed Portland's Trailblazers.
Team Blazers went to seven games, they played an altitude,
(01:25:20):
the sucker came down the stretch, and they survived the
Nuggets on the road in seven games. And you have
the emotion of facing a team that's kind of your
nemesis Lillard coming back home, Seth playing against Steph all
that other stuff. Oh yeah, by the way, there without
the starting center Nurkicic. So yes, Portland's has this underdog thing,
(01:25:42):
and they do have two elite shot makers in the
shot Marriker's League, and they got a chance. But based
upon style, they like to play fast, being on the road,
short turnaround, being without the starting center, and oh yeah,
by the way, that's the style that the Golden State
wors truthfully like to play. Don't love him in this matchup,
(01:26:05):
and neither does Vegas, especially tonight. But before we commit
the atrocity which is going to be committed tonight in
a numerous amount of that, look at how much better
the ball moves, Oh, look at how much better the
ball moves? Well, yeah, that moves better. If you can't
(01:26:27):
do anything with it, you better get the ball moving,
all right. It's like, I love this idea of the
ball movements just better. And some of that's accurate, but
some of it is the fact that when you have
a great player like Kevin Durant, you don't want the
ball to move. Do you know why? Because you want
(01:26:49):
everybody else to catch their breath. Hey, dude, I'm gonna
stand over here and watch you make a bucket. I'm
gonna do yep, how did that? Passed it to Kevin
Durant and he made it? That's good. Basketball's not overthink it.
Kevin Durant has a Noopa loomp on him, and most
people look like oompa loomp was on Kevin Durant giving
(01:27:10):
him the basketball in a spot where he's going to
make it of the time, where as he says, of
the time when they're up into his body sometimes I'm
gonna take that just so I can. That has value.
It has value. You may not like. The stats to it,
you may not like, but it just all kind of works.
(01:27:32):
And if it didn't, you wouldn't have Clay, you wouldn't
have staff, you wouldn't have the Warriors understanding his value,
you could win without him. When the greatest player of
all time, Michael Jordan retired prematurely to go play baseball
to more than the death of his father, maybe to
(01:27:52):
pay off gambling debts. None of us really know why
he went to play for the Burning Hand Barons. When
he did so, that Bulls team that really have an
alpha score had the best record in the East. You
don't remember people going like, you know, Jordan's not that good.
Not the ball stops when Jordan's here. Did you did
(01:28:13):
you ever hear that? No, you know why because they
weren't better without Jordan's And stop me if you go
the we'll look at Lebron's teams when Lebron, like, dude,
when Lebron leaves, like he burns the whole thing down,
burns it all down, top top heavy contracts, guys that
(01:28:36):
can only play off of Lebron. It's built around the
style of you have Lebron the ball and everybody else
get out of the way, and if he wants, I'll
call upon you if needed, sir, and I'll throw you
the ball and you're expected to make a shot. And
oh yeah, by the way, in this era, of the NBA.
When you're not going to be great and you're just
(01:28:59):
gonna be okay, you're better off being horrific, which is
what the Cavs have done and mission accomplished. They got
as good a chance as anybody to land say Williamson
in the draft lottery tonight. So yeah, he joined a
seventy three win team, but one that didn't win a title.
And you know what they've done. They've won two titles
(01:29:20):
and they'll probably win this one. But the Giants weren't
better without without Phil Simms. When Jeff Hospitler filled in,
they just weren't um. When the Patriots didn't have Rob Gronkowski,
you know, I mean I've even heard I don't know
if you people remember this, but remember when Tom Brady
(01:29:41):
was out and you hear like, well, you know, they
won eleven games without Tom Brady. Yeah, by the way,
when Tom Brady played the year before, they won eighteen
consecutive games and lost on a couple of crazy plays
in the Super Bowl. Right, So they went from sixteen
(01:30:02):
wins in the regular season to eleven wins in the
regular season, and it was at the time the greatest
offense in the history of the sport and it became
a good offense. Right that was when he had Randy
Moss in his prime and they dominated the league. Then
they said essentially every record that could or has been
(01:30:25):
said at what could have been set at that time.
So I understand, I get it. We so badly want
somehow to show that Kevin rants not that great and
that they're better team without him. And look, I do
love when the ball moves a little bit more, and
I think that Steve Kerk could have the team moved
(01:30:46):
the ball more. And by the way, do you remember
early on the playoffs what Kevin Durrant was being criticized
for what is scoring thirty five point because he was
moving the ball what they do the last And then
Kevin d was like, have you guys been watching the
end of the season and in the season, we've been
about moving the basketball, sharing it more, kind of make
(01:31:09):
you know, letting the ball find energy or maybe the
open guy, but we'll call it energy. And then people
are like, why can't Kevin Durand go and get forty
and then he goes against forty and fifty They're like, man,
the ball just doesn't move. The winning no winning he's awesome.
(01:31:33):
They're awesome, they're fun to watch. It's a little bit
more difficult when you don't have ridiculously awesome, seemingly unguardable
hope the rim does its job. Kevin Durant, Right, we
did this with Nick Foles and Carson Wentz. You know
that might be batter with Nick Foles. Tam just plays
(01:31:56):
better with Nick Foles. Like, no, not even now. Now,
Carson Wentz was the m v P of the league
and then he blew his knee out. They didn't rush
Carson Wentz back because everything was going great with Nick Foles. Right,
They wouldn't have thrown Nick Carson Wentz back in there
if Nick Foles was killing it like he did in
(01:32:16):
the Super Bowl. When so, we have a tendency to
freak out small sample size and we don't realize things
like we don't seem to realize that Kevin Durant was
moving the basketball until people criticized him for moving the basketball,
(01:32:40):
and then Kevin Durant decided, all right, I'll stop moving
the basketball. I'll just start scoring all the time. And
then all of a sudden people are like, man, he's awesome,
and oh yeah, by the way. He was in the
process of being awesome, of saving the Golden State Warriors
from a US at home when he heard his calf muscle.
(01:33:06):
So Warriors are awesome. They're better with the Rand, but
they can still be better than the Blazers without him,
because they're better than the Blazers. There you go, There
you go? Uh Casey hold all joins us the show
coming next. How are the Blazers approaching this series? Do
(01:33:27):
they think Katie's gonna play? And Damian Lillard seemed to
run out of gas a little bit against the Denver Nuggets.
How he dialed back up the energy going against his
hometown team. We'll find out next. Be sure to catch

use does guys have in the tank man? I mean
(01:34:34):
game seven plus it's in Denver and it came down
the stretch. Um, it feels like you're you're asking a
lot for a team, I know, game ones using the
one you can steal. Case he feels like a lot
to expect a steel tonight from the Blazers. Yeah, I
think that, you know, coming off of, as you mentioned,
a seven game series, the Blazers did have, you know,
since they were able to dispatches Thunder in five games,
(01:34:57):
they got a little bit of a break going into
that series. But yeah, and it was every other day hard,
every single game, every game except for I think Game
five basically going down to the wire. So yeah, I
mean I think that at this point the Plazers are
playing much further into the postseason than they have any
time in the last twenty years. So you know, I
think fatigue will will definitely be a factor. But I
(01:35:17):
guess on the flip side of that, if if Kevin
Durant is going to come back at some time in
this series, uh you would he would imagine the Blazer's
best chances of winning game, particularly in Oakland, would come
while Durant was on the sideline, as you will be tonight.
So you got the fatigue on one side, you got
personnel on the other side, and I had a really
good Warriors team, you know, even as currently assembled, to
deal with. So it's gonna be a test test regardless
(01:35:39):
for the Drublish. That's a certainty. I mean you go
back and and obviously they've been the Warriors been the
nemesis of the Blazers in the playoffs, um, especially when
Steph's been healthy. But but this matchup is different, right,
Not just you don't have Kevin Durant and you don't
have DeMarcus Cousins, but you also don't have Nurkics, which like, look,
that's that's helps Zak Collins get on the floor more.
(01:35:59):
That's helped and his cancer get on the floor more.
Myers Leonard is that his role has has changed and evolved. Like,
how different is this Portland Trailblazer bunch without Nurkic uh
and and with the Seth Curries of the world. Then
previous incarnations of this matchup, Well, they're they're not as good.
I mean, I think we can say that categorically. After
(01:36:20):
after kind of a social season last year, Nurkic really
had a had a quality season this year. I thought
he was a candidate for Most Improved Player. Obviously, I
think Pascal Siakam is gonna get that, but I thought,
or excuse me, I thought Yusuf was was right there
in that conversation. But obviously, you know, breaking his leg
about two weeks before the end of the season really
kind of changed, you know, the dynamic of this team,
and particularly against the Warriors. We saw, I believe in
(01:36:43):
the in the first game here in Oakland of the
regular season series, the Blazers ran almost the entirety of
their offense through Yusef Nurkic in the fourth quarter versus
the Warriors and had a ton of success doing it.
And obviously, you know, while in his Canter's done a
phenomenal job of filling in. He does not have those
same qualities in terms of the passing ability and the
(01:37:04):
ability to score in the post as a guy like
use of Nurkics does, So you know, it really takes
away one of the one of the areas where if
you're looking at the series, you know, two months ago,
and you said, well, where where's the Blazers maybe have
an advantage. I think use of Nurkics versus whoever would
have been out there for the for the thunder though
or excuse me, the Warriors. Obviously Bookie Cousins getting injured
kind of also adds into that equation, but it definitely
(01:37:25):
takes away kind of one of their one of their
best scoring options. First the team in the Warriors that
you know you're going to have to score, you know,
hud h fifteen points to win. So again, I mean
that they've done a phenomenal job of dealing with that absence.
But once you get to this point in the postseason
versus the the best of the best in the NBA,
you know, that's when you really start to feel those
those absences, and they are definitely going to feel it
(01:37:47):
not having use of nurkets out there, though again at
this point to they're they're just somewhat I think there's
somewhat resigned to dealing with that absence. Why did uh
Damian Lillard struggle in Game seven? How much who was
fatigued and how much who was they'd seen enough they
knew his game? You know what. I think that the
the Nuggets had a really really good, uh game plan
(01:38:07):
versus Damian Lillard for the entire series, really and while
you know, I think he probably struggled the most, at
least in terms of the shooting from the field in
Game seven, uh, you know, they did a really nice
job on him throughout the entire series. He definitely did
not have the same you know, offensive output as he
had versus the the Thunder who really tried to kind
of guard him one on one. And I think we
saw throughout the course of that series is that's not
(01:38:28):
really something particularly in the playoffs, so you can do
against a guy like Damian Lillard, but if you're able
to throw a couple of defenders at him, a particularly
two defenders who were long and lanky, as they did
with with Gary Harris and Tori Craig, you know, that
those are the guys that that typically give Damian Lillard issues.
So if the Warriors are able to do something similar,
I would imagine that they're going to start out probably
throwing traps at Damian Lillard straight from the jump and
(01:38:49):
seeing how they how the Blazers kind of deal with that.
I think you might see something similar the the other
part of that, though, it is in Oakland, and you know,
Damien is a very motivated player in general, but quickly
playing in front of you know, his hometown crowd, uh
in the really the last time you will ever play
at Oracle Arena before they moved back over to the
other side of the bay. You know, I think there's
(01:39:09):
a there's a little something there. So I would assume
they're going to do everything they can to take Damian
look out of this game. And I think, you know,
we saw versus the Nuggets that when you do that,
that is when c J. McCollum becomes that much more important,
because you know, if there's two guys that are drawing
attention to to Damien, that that presents the mismatches for
other guys, and c J. McCollum is the guy who's
who's most apt to take advantage of those mismatches. Great stuff.
(01:39:31):

I appreciate it. Do got Lee Schell rolls on here

about about the New York Nicks and what they may
(01:39:53):
do if they land the number one overall pick in
tonight's NBA Draft lottery. Now mean, I look, I give
you a bit rundown on the draft and the draft
lottery and who's out there. But there's one name that everybody,
of course I wants to talk about that, Zion Williamson.
But I'll tell you what I think about this story
and the possibility of trading the right to zign Williamson.
(01:40:15):
But first let's get you Dan Buyer. Yeah, we have
to see if the Knicks actually get the first overall pick.
Will find out and I prior to Game one of
the Western Conference Finals. Draft lottery takes place in Chicago,
while Game one of the West Finals is at Oakland
Blazers and Warriors. As you guys, were just talking about
nine o'clock Eastern time. One other note from this series
Turkish Television refusing to broadcast the Western Conference Finals. Why
(01:40:38):
you ask, Well, that's because of the criticism loving against
the Turkish government by Blazers Center and its cantor s
Sports is the network refusing to broadcast the games, saying
the network would also refuse to air the NBA Finals
if the Blazers end up getting that far members. Yeah,
you know, Sport, I mean it's part of that that
Turkish TV bundle. I'm gonna cut off that Turkish TV.
(01:40:59):
I'm gonna be a cord cut because of Sport Sport
sticking to their guns. If you will, Memphis a d
tom Bowe, we will not run the NBA playoffs because
of what Ennis Get said about Duckie. Is that your
Turkish impression? Yes, that's my that's my is Stanbul, Bob, Stanbul, Bob,
(01:41:20):
Doug Gottlieb, that is I'm Dan Buyer doing the update.
That's Doug Gottlieb. I guess it wouldn't be instead because
it was bad Dad. Bobby is stambul Iggy is stambul

In case you missed it, we were that run the

and I get Loup Low. How's up to homework? Games

that's the Indians Radio Network with the call Indians stuff
the White Sox today nine to nothing Dodgers picture. Julio
Orri has arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence

every state, uh blankly the radius pitches for the Dodgers
this year, John Ramos, I would say, it's getting and
this is as highly touted a prospect as that is
in baseball. And he's pitched extremely well this season, either
(01:43:09):
as a starter and out of the bullpen lately. Okay,
so this is like and for people who don't know,
John is one of the nicer human beings I know
on the face of the earth. Dead husband, good dude,
also a Dodger fan. Um is there? Let's say she
(01:43:30):
was like in his face and pushing him, and he
just shoved her aside and she fell down. Like again,
I don't know that none of us know what really happened, right, Like,
what is has to be the circumstances in order for
you to want him to play for your team again
as a fan but also was a human being. Well, well,
(01:43:51):
I do think that you have to have the whole story, right.
I could sit here and say off my team now,
I don't need to see anything more, and I think
that would be a bad way to go about things.
So I do need to see a little bit more
and more information about what exactly happened. I think the
Dodgers put out that they are actually looking into it,
examining the whole situation, and that's a smart move. You
don't want to make a rash decision really fast. However,
(01:44:14):
if it is something that you know he aggressively attacked somebody,
whether or not they were, you know, upset at him,
yelling at him, it's not a way to answer back
to somebody by hitting somebody. So I would say I
would definitely suspend him if I were the Dodgers, and
I'm not even sure if i'd let him pitch the
rest of this season. Okay, so here's the There is
(01:44:36):
video of it. We don't have not seen that we know,
we have not seen the video of it. So Julio
Eurus was arrested Monday's suspicion of a domestic battery. A
witness told l A Police they saw him push a
woman to the ground, and the video supported the allegation.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, eurus arrest came
(01:44:57):
after officers with the l A p D responded to
a ports of a domestic violence incident in the parking
lot of the Beverly Center at Beverly Boulevard. Is that
the one that's up at top of the hill. Is that?
What that is? That? What the Beverly Center is Beverly
Center at the top of the hill. Top of the
hill is in between Los Angeles West Los Angeles and
where we are in Sherman Oaks. There's the hills of
(01:45:18):
Westwood and then Beverly Actual Hills. Anyway, UM, really nice
shopping set up there. Authorities reviewed the video, which indicated
woman had been pushed. According to a source familiar with
the police probe, l ap D officers in domestic violence
cases typically seek independent evidence of violent acts, such as video.
In the investigation, The woman, who had not been identified
and us denied the incident was anything more than a
(01:45:40):
verbal altercation, but officers are trained to examine other facts
even when the victim is uncooperative. According to to law
enforcement UM sources, he's twenty two from Mexico. Is at
nine thirty at night. We're released on twenty dollars bond.
H Yeah, I mean, I guess, I I guess we'd
(01:46:02):
all have to see the push. How violent the push was.
Was it a get out of my face, or whether
it was it a you know year two. I don't know. Yeah,
we were just talking to Ryan earlier, earlier this season, right,
the Santisco Giants owner. I mean we saw the video.
Some of us weren't sure if it was actually a
push or what. But I mean I believe they suspended him.
(01:46:24):
They didn't suspend him. That one felt like she was
What happened with that one was she was trying to
look at his cell phone. Right, she was trying to
take his cell phone and he didn't or he was
trying to take the cell phone back and then she
lost her balance and fell. It wasn't like he took
her and took the cell phone and then pushed her over. Um,
(01:46:50):
So yeah, I don't know, man, Why can't people just
take keep their hands off each other? What is the deal?
What is the deal? I don't know? All right, I
want to get to this story. Um. The New York
Nicks are one of the three teams that have four
(01:47:10):
team percent chance of earning the top overall pick in
tonight's NBA Draft lottery. Sham's Sharania of Stadium reported today
that the Knicks would likely shift their focus towards working
at a trade for Anthony Davis if they land the
number one overall pick rather than drafting Zion Williamson. Hm.
(01:47:33):
I mean that is they win now mentality right, If
you think you're gonna get k d and Kyrie Irving,
can you get Anthony Davis and now you have yourselves
a super team, super team. But boys, that a hard
one to I'm gonna be great for the Pelicans who
don't know who don't draw well and have struggled in
(01:47:54):
that city. But it's one of those things, like you know,
I kind of want the Knicks to win the draft
lottery because I want to see Zion pay for the Knicks.
It makes the Knicks likable, and obviously this would mean
the Pelicans have to want to trade Anthony Davis. It's
a pretty good team and it actually puts um I
(01:48:18):
think Anthony Davis in a better role where he is
not one of the primary scores or two, but he
can still score a lot of points. I guess here's
my one question. Are we sure Kevin Uryant wants to
play with Kyrie Irving. I know they're friends, and I
know that everyone has respect for the talent of Kyrie Irving,
but do you really want to play with Kyrie Irving, right,
(01:48:41):
Am I crazy to say that? And I think Kyrie
Irving is crazy, crazy talented, Like both guys want to
have the ball and go ie and they begin Anton
Davis like, I don't know how all that would work.
And I love David Fizdale, good guy, grew up in
(01:49:01):
southern California. He was older than me. I played against
him in AU basketball. We've been friendly ever since. But
if Brad Stevens can't get Kyrie Irving to come off
off the basketball, how is David Fizdale, especially when he's
got Kadi and then he's got Anthony Davis. But I
do understand the idea of, hey, look, if you get
(01:49:23):
Kyrie and k d that kid's nineteen years old. He's
not gonna help you win playoff games right now, Anthony Davis?
Would I get that, understand that, But I just I
also wonder how it would all work. I do. I
feel like it would be a disaster. And neither of
(01:49:44):
them seemed to love dealing with the media, and in
New York, where you constantly have to deal with the media,
my crazy music. No, I think it's a great point.
I mean, what do we always say about Durant is
He's lucky to have the true leader on the team,
which is either you know, f or Draymond. They're always
known as the leader of that team. I guess we
(01:50:05):
don't know a ton about Anthony Davis and him being
a leader. You haven't heard anything bad. But part of
his issue is he's never been healthy, or the one
time that he was healthy, they kind of got mopped
up a bit by the Warriors. So you don't know
what his leadership qualities are like, especially late in the
season and playoff games. And obviously with Kyrie, what have
(01:50:26):
we been talking about for the past six months how
poorly he did as a leader. So yeah, it doesn't
it doesn't really seem like the best situation to put
them all together on the same team and just go.
But they're all great basketball. It becomes an a team.
I do think Anthony Davis has seen as you know,
he gets credit for being a leader when he was
in Kentucky. How accurate that is, I don't I don't know,
(01:50:47):
you know. And I like the fact that I think
he can play without the basketball. I think he can
help defend the rim um as Kyrie is not a
great defender. But I'm also that would be. It would
appear to be fairly devastating to Lebron if he couldn't
get Anthony Davis, couldn't get Katie, couldn't get Kyrie. On
the other hand, you know, Jason Kidd's agent is also
(01:51:12):
the agent for Kemba Walker and DeAndre Jordan's, right, So
does that become a possibility. I'd always thought, I'd always
heard DeAndre Jordan wants to stay and wants to play
with k D and with Kyrie. That parts fast. The
whole thing is fascinating, Well, isn't isn't part of what
would be so interesting about the Knicks doing that was
(01:51:34):
from a basketball perspective, it would actually almost be the
smart thing to do, as opposed to what you think
the obvious thing for what the Knicks would do, which
is what's the popular thing? What's the business? It's a
good point. It's a good point, right, what what's the what?
What is the in terms of practicality, what is the best?
(01:51:55):
What is the most practical thing to do? Right? And
the most practical thing to do is um uh, the
most practical thing to do is to trade use that
use a lot like what Cleveland did for Kevin Love. Right,
which is, yes, could you technically get a who was it?
(01:52:18):
What's his name? Place? Where the Timberwolves right is Andrew Wiggins?
And people I said, well, they should have done Wiggins,
Like remember when Andrew Wiggins was drafted like nineteen years old,
way thin, like you ain't gonna help you in the
NBA finals And whatever limitations Kevin Love has, Kevin Loves
a grown man, knows his role, knows how to play.
You know, he's got limitations, but at least you know
(01:52:40):
what they are, whereas you don't with a kid. I
do wonder though, with Zion, Like I just like the
how Zion doesn't need the ball to be effective. And
if I'm the Knicks and I sit there and go like, well,
what if I got DeAndre Jordan's stay, had Zion Williamson
to go with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and then
(01:53:02):
mostly shooting and hybrid players around like that feels like
a home run to me? Is I on that athletic
because obviously in college games he jumps off at the
screen at you, but really athletic. He can really guard literally,
and I would guess that he'll get more, not less athletic,
because I would guess that he's gonna they're gonna make
him drop weight. Like if I was. This is the
(01:53:23):
same thing as with embiid. If I'm close to them
right now, I'm like, look, here's the deal. Here's your trainer,
here's your dietitian. Okay, here's your body guy. And maybe
the trainer and the body guy are one and the same,
and you're just gonna they're gonna live with you, because
that makes that that changes him from a great story
and a YouTube sensation and a cool college player too,
(01:53:45):
could be one of the all time grades. Got to
change his he's got to lighten up. You just can't
be You can't play eight five. It's too much. He's
only six five and a half. That's just too much
torque on his knees and on his ankles. But you're right,
it would be a very anti nixt thing to do,
to do the smart thing, the pertinent thing, not the
(01:54:07):
popular thing. Alright, s Doug Godling Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. By the way, bring back bring back to
ping pong balls. Our state lotteries which determine who gets
two d fifty million dollars can use ping pong balls.
We can't in the NBA. That makes no sense to me.
One NFL team won't won't be on hard knocks. Find
(01:54:28):
out who that is next. Be sure to catch live

(01:55:12):
know that Yesterday was the fifteenth anniversary of the point
four second ball Basket fish Basket, fish Basket, fishy fish Basket.
The series tied to two Lakers versus Spurs. Remember the
Derek Fisher shot. I mean that's to me. That's the
crazy shot I I can ever remember, to catch a
(01:55:34):
ball with point four seconds to go, not facing the basket,
turn and fire it and make it. That was That's
the most miraculous shot I can remember in NBA history.
Let's let's get to the press. The press, Dan Buyer,
(01:55:57):
but he got Doug. Do you want to clarify? There
will be ping pong balls for the draft lottery there,
we just don't see them. Yes, and trust me, they
were ping pong balls. Where are they? We already we aready,
we already, we already played like no. I think they
should play ping pong with the ping pong ball. And
(01:56:17):
for those that don't know, you do we have a
ping pong table? Here? Probably room, there is room. We
did have one, but then someone spilled coffee all over it.
The For those that don't know what happened to three four,
I declare ping pong war is each team is assigned
(01:56:40):
a four number four digit code. There's too much stuff,
and then here is the thing. You put four team
balls in the bag. You have the thing go and
then you have to and then the pung. I agree
with that wholeheartedly. I don't think if you want to
stop taking, stopped giving any advantage to the worst team
(01:57:01):
the The Sacramento Kings, who just missed out of the playoffs,
of the Miami Heat should have the same exact odds
of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns. Not only
would it stop tanking, it would also dug It would
also I think, benefit the teams that are stuck in
the middle for giving them a player who could maybe
take them to the upper echel line. I love it.
(01:57:23):
I love it. And you know what I would say
to people who say that's not fair. You know what
you say to that tough beans, Life's not fair. Nobody
owes you anything. Life's not fair. Deal with it. I
want my big bunge boss. Absolutely. I did like the
big envelopes as well, uncomfortably big envelopes. You're like, oh,
(01:57:46):
paper cut, Oh man, I'm bleeding all over the place.
And I love the surprise in David Serton's face, like
New York Knicks who knew Patrick Ewing New York Knicks,
I'm are you what is my surprise face? Are you
a for? Was an envelope or bent corner conspiracy? Like?
Which one? Do you think it was? Happened? Because there's
one thing that the envelope was cold. I think it
(01:58:07):
was both corner. You gotta have a you gotta have
a double, you gotta you gotta have both, right because
David you know, and David sarting to kind of pull
it out. And at the time, you know, this is
back in the mid eighties, right, you know what the
Kansas City Kings to get the Kansay Kings at the time.
So I don't know what you're talking about. Oh, the
New York Dicks. John Patrick going, oh my gosh, that's amazing.
(01:58:31):
How did that happen? I have all the things I've
never seen. The New York Dicks got the got the envelope.
You've got to have a fall guy, you know. I
tried to do some research of like the top picks
in the NBA draft. We will not watch the NBA
left because they won, all right, and it will not
(01:58:55):
be on the esport in Turkey. No God sleep show
because he has a terrible fick tucki accent. I tried
to do some research on the NBA draft. In the
top five picks. I think in the last eight or
nine drafts there have only been there were only twelve
guys who were in the top five of the last
(01:59:17):
eight or nine drafts that appeared in this year's playoffs. Yeah,
it's it's not it's not a very good average. You
would think that these top five guys would be carrying
their teams to success, not not when you draft nineteen
year old dudes. Man right, Yes, absolutely, NBC. But but
you know what we should do, Well, let's have him
drift eighteen year old dudes in the future. That would
be even better. NBC Sports Bay Area Area reports. Won't ye,
(01:59:44):
don't run it for me, don't ruin it for me?
Thro season one through episode three, guys, Yes, we've been
going on an episode of Night. We're through episode three
of the series. Well spoil what happens after episode three.
Here's the thing with Game of Thrones Twitter right now,
Like I get Sunday Night and I get Monday, but
(02:00:05):
it's Tuesday, and stop putting stuff up, Like, seriously, move on,
wait till wait till later this week? Go ahead, I disagree, Dan,
Let's break down some first round action. By the way,
any information would Travis have on his uh Twitter? Any information,
(02:00:26):
any information like ends up being a spoiler, it seems.
NBC Sports Bay Area reports the forty Ladders won't be
appearing on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer, leaving only the Giants, Raiders, Lions,
and Redskins as possibilities for the shows. Giants Raiders, Yes,
Raiders in absolutely know they're gonna have shots of like sprinklers.
(02:00:52):
Jon Gruden early on, you know ye look at four am. Yeah,
I Derek Carr coming in. Everybody loves Derek Carr. Wlade
receiver Odell Becki Jr. Took part in his first offseason
work out with the Browns today. No word if you'll
be there for their O t a s which start
Tomorrow's Supposedly he is going to be there for O
(02:01:14):
t S. I think you only show up for O
t a s after not showing up for O TS
when somebody goes like, hey, dude, he should probably show
for O t a s. Head coach Bill Belichick's gonna
call the defensive place for the Patriots this season. We're
on the calling place. Yeah. Uh so I mean that
that confirms that he'll have exactly zero saying what's going
(02:01:36):
on in offense? Now? Will he? Will he open that
vault to Josh McDaniels two or just the overall leadership vault.
There's your answer. Espno reports. The white Nike Polo shirt
worn by Tiger Woods with his head cover Hank on
it sold out in an hour on the Nike site
today after Tiger wore the shirt to his press conference
(02:01:56):
for the PGA Championship. The little you know, the little
Tiger head cover that he's Scott debuted at the Masters.
Wore the white one today, sold out immediately. Maybe that's
come back with some of those terrible golf clubs they
used to have. That is true, So I don't make
him anymore like every golfers like, did you buy those nightclubs?
Like na, I don't have Nike guy. I love Nike stuff.
(02:02:18):
I'm a Nike guy, but everyone like, dude, Nike clubs,
New Bueno. When Tiger was asked about John Daily using
a card at the PGA Championship, Daily dealing with our thrightness,
Tiger at this to say, as far as j D
taking a cart, well, I walked with a broken leg.
So s that's some smoke. We want none of this smoke.
(02:02:43):
They're gonna throw hands. I love how all of a
sudden we've got into her smoke and throw hands. And
once white people take this over, it becomes so corny.
Look out, John Daily, don't want to know this smoke.
John Dailey, gonna throw hands. Let's press. Backing out there
and pressed. That was the press. I open the broken
(02:03:05):
leg and Achilles tinning tear and a c L plus
I was texting multiple mistresses all at once, and I
beat Rocko Mediate in San Diego where Gottlieb and Buyer
won the program. Yes, and ct PAN who helped us
not at all. Buyer who wins Tonight Warriors music. I
(02:03:28):
will go with the Warriors as well. Come on, Ramos,
give me the upset Warriors. Yeah, I'm gonna take the
Warriors bigly, big ly, and people are gonna freak out
and say that they don't need Kevin Durant. Kevin Duran's
no good when it's really about the Blazers. Rosen envelope
doug out the show
