Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
What is going on everybody? How are we doing? Hopefully
everyone is doing outstanding out there in the real world
living life, like Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins who
just got bludgeoned on Thursday Night Football twenty eight to
six at home by the Baltimore Ravens, who look like
(00:35):
they're kind of on fire. Win a couple games in
four days, get Lamar back and dominate, throws a bunch
of touchdowns. That was a bloodbath. Now the question is,
is Mike lose his job? And if the Pittsburgh Steelers win,
are the Ravens really going to win this division? Rough
night for al Michaels, And we'll hit on a couple
(00:55):
other things. It's Fugazi Friday, so I get a couple
of fugazi's. One involves Andy and the other involves a goat.
And we'll also do uh Stucky. He will be joining
us as he does every Friday, talk about the NFL,
talk about the leak from a gambling perspective, all of
our bets presented by hard Rock and yeah, so we'll
(01:16):
go over that. We'll do a little college at the end,
but a lot of NFL. Other than that, you guys
know the drill. Subscribe to the podcast wherever you may listen. Also,
if you're on YouTube, which I know everyone is because
I see the amount of people that watch YouTube, make
sure you subscribe three and out type in my name subscribe.
You'll never miss anything. We go live after all. The
primetime games do content all throughout the week. I got
(01:37):
a migrain an awful one the other day. I don't
get I get a couple of year and it was
like I was in shamble. So I didn't do a
podcast for record on Wednesday for Thursday. So I recorded
the mail bag today and we'll put one out this weekend.
So we'll probably put that out Saturday morning. Get a
little weekend mail bag. So I try to answer some
(01:58):
of your guys questions, but you know, I gotta tell
you about my friends, my partners. Game time. Here's the thing.
Do you guys want to go to a game? You
guys want to go to a football game? Do you
want to go to a college game? Do you want
to go to a pro game? Do you want to
go watch your team? Well, there is not an app
that makes it easier. You can find tickets for as
low as one hundred dollars. When you see the prices
(02:21):
on the app, that is the actual price. There's no
adding the fees later. That is the actual price you
will pay for the tickets they got flash deals. You
can search by the venue, you can search by the
team obviously, concerts, comedy shows, you name it. It does
not get any easier to go watch a football game.
So take the guest work out of buying professional football
(02:41):
tickets with game Time. Download the game Time app, Create
an account and use the code John for twenty dollars
off your first purchase. Terms of play Again, create an
account and redeem the code John that's Jayway Jen for
twenty dollars off. Swipe tap ticket. Go download the game
Time app today. Okay, let's start with this game, because
I actually don't think there's much to take away from
(03:01):
this game at all in terms of like on the
field of place, Lamar looked really good, dominated in the
red zone. The Ravens definitely feel like they have life,
and the Miami Dolphins took that short lived ass kicking
that they gave and handed out to the Atlanta Falcons
feel like it was more than four days ago. Because
I was like, did that just happen. It's like, yeah,
(03:22):
they were just up thirty one to three, literally on
Sunday afternoon. It's on Thursday, but it does feel like
they resorted right back, played a real team, playing the
Ravens who obviously are playing for something, and just got
shell ACKed. So to me, the simple question is is
it time should Mike McDaniel lose his job? And listen,
(03:43):
I would never feel comfortable saying a guy should or shouldn't,
you know, have a job. This is how people pay
for their families. Feel less bad inside when you're talking
about a guy making six seven eight million dollars who's
clearly over his head. This team is falling apart, and listen,
it's not all his fault, but I think if you're
Steven Ross, now's the time to blow this thing up.
(04:04):
Obviously there has been speculation about does the GM have
you know, some dirty laundry on the guy and makes
it difficult to not, you know, relieve him of his duties.
But there's no way you could hire another coach with
that guy at GM. So if you're gonna fire him,
you gotta fire him both. And remember it kind of
happened with Robert Salah and then Joe Douglass last year,
(04:26):
if I remember correctly, it was off a couple weeks.
To me, now's the time to do them both. And
the Miami Dolphins. I think the big picture question mark
is can this franchise be saved? And I think there
is one consistent theme to this team, and I think
it's kind of like the Jets. You know, the Jets
and the Dolphins right now are complete embarrassment. Things constantly
(04:47):
change coaches, players, but one thing doesn't the ownership. And
they showed Steven Ross to night looked like talking to
his son or something. This franchise is just a joke.
I mean, it really is. And the one thing that
they are like the Atlanta Falcons, like the New Orleans Saints.
They're in this southern world where college reigns supreme and
(05:09):
most of the best programs beside Ohio State are located
in that region. And I've always wondered theorized a little bit.
Is it hard to sustain when people care more about
college football down there? And I was thinking watching this tonight,
is there a worst atmosphere in the entire league than
where Miami Dolphin their home stadium? Right? I mean think
(05:32):
about their division, like when the Patriots are roll in,
that place is rocking. Obviously, the Bills are elite. Even
if the Jets were ever good, the New York fans,
I just don't think anyone cares. And maybe it's just
because they've been bad for a long time. I guess
they made the playoffs a couple of years ago, but
down the stretch they were not very fun to watch
in either one of those seasons. They peaked early, and
there's just something about this franchise that seems off to me.
(05:54):
So even if I answer my own questions should they fire,
if I say, yeah, fire everybody in the building, who's
taking this? Who are you getting? Because to me, if
you hire the next up and coming coordinator, nothing's gonna change.
I mean, that's what's been happening. Mike McDaniel, Adam Gasee.
This is a job. The only chance you have for
(06:15):
success and football survival would be to kind of get
a crazy ass veteran coach. You're gonna need to come
in here and kind of drop the hammer because whatever
has been happening down there not only is not working,
it's an unwatchable product. Most weeks. Obviously, the investment into
Tua is a debacle. I mean, he's not like some
(06:39):
all time scrub. He's obviously a starting quarterback in the NFL,
but you can't win with that. And then the way
they built the team going back with a bunch of
little players and you watch them against the Ravens that
look like I want to say varsity, say JV. I
would say varsity versus like the pee wee team, the
junior high team. So I think this is the type
situation of like you're gonna need. Ideally last year, Mike Vrabel,
(07:02):
that's the type guy. You need, a no nonsense, no bullshit,
hard discipline guy. Because you keep going with these offensive, innovative,
up and coming coordinators, you got no shot. And obviously
you need a GM and people with a vision to
build a team down in the South Beach because it's
clearly hard. You have things going up against you, right,
(07:23):
I mean from the weather, to the women, to the
shit to do. The Bills have a huge the packers,
they have massive advantages over you. They can pay the
same amount of money, but they don't have to worry
about their guys Monday through Friday. A lot less for
them to do, and screw up around and clearly there
is a focus issue. I mean, this is a situation.
I've been saying this about Thursday night games. I don't
(07:46):
really judge you on the outcome. If you would have
told me the Ravens won this game like seventeen to thirteen,
I'd be like, hey, short week on the road, congratulations,
you move on. There's one. There's no style points in
the NFL, but there definitely. I mean, it's October thirtieth,
We're in week eight nine. Like, once you get midway
(08:06):
through the season and on a Thursday night road game
is just a win and get out of there. It's
like it's like college basketball survive in advance. Yet the
Ravens came in short week now, granted the quarterback I
had's fresh legs hadn't played, came in and looked like
this this was game one. So I listen the Dolphins,
(08:29):
I was thinking, like, could they go college? It's like, well,
even Lane Kiffin and Sark and Ryan da like those
guys are offensive guys. Like to me, this franchise probably
needs a defensive guy. I think the last time they
had any success in the playoffs, wasn't it. Dave wantston
defensive guy. You know, Bill Parcells was there for a minute,
Tony Soprano, I know he was an offensive line coach.
(08:51):
But the old school mentality, I just don't think this innovative, soft,
up and coming young guy, they have no chance, I
mean none. So when you blow this thing up, listen,
I've already seen some of these rumors, like Rex Ryan
for example, and I'm not I just use that name
because it comes up, but some of these. You know,
if Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers, like to me,
(09:13):
he would be a guy something like that, but I
would in touch with a ten foot pole, an offensive guy,
and two a first time head coach, because whoever they hire,
he could be the sexiest name, the next Kevin O'Connell,
the next like you put Ben Johnson Miami, I'd be
out like he's got no shot, zero, none, zilch. So
I just think the Dolphins are, you know, a franchise
(09:36):
for older people that used to be kind of just
a legendary, you know brand. Right in the seventies, they
were big time. Obviously with Dan Marino, they just mattered
in the league, and they just feel like they don't
matter and they have no identity, and their coach is
completely over his head and this thing is just falling
apart at the seams, and the GM drafted just terrible
(10:01):
players and even the good ones are like flawed players.
And I just think you're seeing this thing fall apart.
And it felt like the Ravens might have ended his tenure.
So if if Friday morning or this weekend would not
shock me at all. And speaking of the Ravens, I
think the last four days they've they've kind of said
(10:22):
the Steelers because listen, I was kind of out on
them because I'm like, Pittsburgh's gonna get to like eleven wins,
and now I'm starting doing the math like maybe they're not.
Maybe the Steelers are not winning. Maybe Vegas when they
kept the Ravens as the favorite, knew what they were doing.
Because I'm kind of on board because right now, if
the Steelers played the Ravens ten times, I'm taking the
(10:44):
Ravens eight and a half of those, Like, I mean,
what you saw out of the Ravens to night an
elite quarterback and I get it, it's Miami team's not
that good, but still short week, Derrick Henry looked lively defensively,
Kyle Hamilton, Kyle van Noy flying around making plays, so
like this is a team now that I thought tonight
officially put the Pittsburgh Steelers on notice. And if you
(11:07):
tell me the Pittsburgh Steelers lose this weekend against the
Colts and have lost two weeks in a row to
good teams, like I'm out on them. I am simply
out on them. This is a must win spot for
Pittsburgh come Sunday, mainly because of this, because the team
we've seen the last couple of weeks, one with the
backup quarterback four days ago and then the Lamar version
(11:28):
of night like that's more of the real Ravens team,
and I just thought, like, hey, we've seen how bad
these guys are playing. Listen. John Harbaugh is a fifteen
million dollar coach for a reason. He's done this before.
They've been flipped a switch, They've made personnel changes in
the middle of the in the year, tweaks that have
worked year after year, and it feels like they've done
that right now. And the Ravens team I'm watching looks
(11:50):
like they're getting nine or ten wins and looks like
they could go on one of those runs. Damn they
just won, you know, eight of nine games, and we
know the Steelers can't, but they definitely can if they
lose this week because to me, if they do, like
this Ravens thing is real, and all of a sudden,
they went from one in five, they're three and five,
and they got momentum going this way. And you had
(12:11):
the Steelers who started whatever four and one and five
and two or whatever the fuck their record is, and
there are four They were four and one, now they're
four and two. They could be four and three. I
think I'm screwing this up. Let me look this up,
kind of all lamped up here standings. We got the
Pittsburgh Steelers who are four and three, so if they
lose this weekend, they're four and four, And if the
(12:32):
Cincinnati Bengals were to win, they'd also have four wins.
So all of a sudden, you'd be like, we had
this great start, we had this huge lead, and now
we look behind us and they're the Ravens with one
less win, and there are the Cincinnati Bengals with the
same amount of wins, who obviously beat us a couple
of weeks ago. So I think if you're a Ravens fan,
you can take a deep breath. These last four days
(12:53):
saved your season, and your season was only savable as
long as the Steelers didn't win. And it turns out
they did not against the Backers, they did not win
against the Bengals, so they were four and one, and
now they got a chance to lose three straight games,
and all of a sudden before and four and you're
right behind them, and this is one of those races
where it's like they had you laughed and now you're
(13:14):
seeing in their tail lights and now you're coming on them.
And you still play them a couple times, so I
would like my chances. And the other thing is like
I just trust the Ravens down the stretch way more
than I trust the Steelers. So this is a division
that Listen, I was wrong on a couple of weeks ago.
I said this was crazy, But I don't see how
you watch the Steelers the last couple weeks and then
(13:34):
watch the Ravens these last couple of weeks and just
know the infrastructure, like one team's used to win in
twelve to fourteen games, the others used to scratch it
in Klawn to get the nine or ten, and it
does feel like they're headed back toward those pass Now.
Obviously the Ravens aren't gonna win twelve games this year,
but right now they feel like they could go on
a stretch of just rattling off some w's because you
(13:55):
have that quarterback, you have that offensive firepower, and if
their defense plays good. That was a problem their defense
was if it's gonna play good, and even tonight, like
they were giving up yards, made some big things happen,
created turnovers, got out the field on fourth down. Obviously
the dude missed the kick early in the game, which
was a big swing because then the Ravens went right
down the field and scored. It's like a fourteen point swing.
But I think it's I think it's fair to declare, like,
(14:18):
I don't want to say the Ravens are back because
you're three and five, but the Ravens feel like tangibly
real again. I love this guy. Al Michaels has been
a huge part of my life. Anyone around my age
or obviously older that has been watching sports for decades,
(14:39):
He's played a massive role in a lot of these events.
And I mean, there are a couple guys you know,
Brent Musburger, Marv Albert, those type guys that when you're
young and you first start watching games, it's a big deal,
especially for those of us, you know, started watching games
before we ever had cable in our house, so you
had to be on network TV. And these guys were stars.
(15:00):
And Al Michaels is a legend, and it goes back
till to like the seventies when he was calling Pete
Rose games with the Cincinnati Reds, to call on the
hockey game in nineteen eighty, to obviously call in the
NFL for a long time and working with John Madden
and playing a major role on Sunday Night Football. But
(15:21):
I think it's over and a couple of years ago,
it could be longer than that. Now. I remember watching
games on TNT and thinking Marv Albert like couldn't tell
what was going on. And obviously basketball, the pace of
basketball is a lot different than football. It's much faster
because it never stops. There's not a stop in the
action between a miss and a fast break and pushing
(15:43):
it back, so you really got to be on. But
even tonight, like early in the game, there was a
play where Al goes, oh, he was just stopped a
bit short and it turned out it was like fourth
and five. It's like, can I see And I haven't
noticed it as much, but I've heard buddies or people
in the media talk about this. He's slipping and he's
(16:03):
slipping hard. And listen, there's something to the name value
of Marv Albert, of Al Michaels and for a long
period of time that not only has mattered, that's been important.
Like those guys are the best in the business. But
like an athlete, when a running back can no longer
run or a pitcher can no longer throw strikes, it ends.
(16:24):
It ends for everyone in the business. You know. Coaches
get fired, players get cut, and I think we're at
the point where, you know, al just needs to hang
up the mic. Because I try not to be too
negative when it comes to like legendary people, because I
do respect it and I could never do look just
like most podcasters couldn't dream of what they do from
(16:45):
a play by play standpoint, and it is heyday, how
good he was and now was just a smooth cat.
But at eighty years old calling these games, it does
feel like if his fastball was much once one hundred
miles an hour. It feels like he's throwing about seventy
two right now, and like it might take a second
for the hitter to get adjusted from one hundred to
(17:05):
seventy two. But once they do, that thing's gone and
it's it's ugly. Today's show is brought to you by
our new presenting sponsor.

I wanted to hit on a couple more things for
(18:46):
this upcoming weekend because we already mentioned Tomlin. There's a
ton of pressure on him. I think he's at a
fork in the road moment in his career because if
he doesn't win this game, I think the season could
go south for them. The Ravens win the division if
they don't make the play. I have a hard time again.
I don't think he's gonna get fired. They never want
to fire him, thinking he's the coach with the Pittsburgh
(19:06):
Steelers in twenty twenty six. If you tell me that
the Ravens end up winning the division and the Pittsburgh
Steelers don't make the playoffs. I would bet that it
would be over for him, whether it's a trade, whether
it's just to let him out of his contract, go
to the Dolphins, the Giants. I would just imagine he
would be a head coach for a different team. I
think the Dolphins and the Giants would make a ton
of sense. And if I was him, I'd want a
(19:27):
fresh start, but clearly he doesn't. So we've talked about
that over and over. But I think there are other
guys with a ton on the line. This weekend, one
Kevin O'Connell is taking JJ McCarthy, who hasn't started the
game and what feels like multiple months into the Detroit Lions,
who are not only rolling, but sometimes when a guy
gets thrown out, like, hey, I think we should look
(19:49):
at Kelvin Sheppard as our next head coach. You know,
a former player, if he's like an assistant coach, it's like, well,
it's just is he a good one? Like is this
gonna work? You're watching Kelvin Shepherd who's like team captain
for super high level guy as a player, and now
is a badass defensive coordinator. Like there might be some
like if Lane turned him down. If you told me
(20:09):
Kelvin Sheppard was the next head coach at LSU, I'd
gotta believe you. There's a chance that Kelvin Sheppard is
a better defensive coach than Aaron Glenn, and I think
we all agree. Over the last couple of years, Aaron
Glenn established himself as one of the better defensive coordinators.
So they've had some guys in and out of the
lineup in terms of injuries, but I think he's an
elite defensive coordinator and obviously offensively, based on the way
(20:29):
Minnesota has been playing, Detroit's gonna score at home. This
thing could unravel and unravel fast, and there's no going
to the bullpen. Hey, Carson, JJ's kind of banged up.
We're losing, come on into the game in the second half.
He's in the hospital. So all eyes are on JJ McCarthy,
especially He's going back to Michigan, a place where he
became a first round pick and took the team to
(20:51):
the national championship. There's just gonna be a lot of
eyeballs on this game. And one thing that's starting to
really bother me. Is I mentioned this I'm a couple podcasts.
If I'm repeating myself, I'm sorry, But Al Michael said
this again during the game. I'm getting so tired of
we just don't have any patience anymore. Yes, there are
certain things we don't have patience for anymore. We don't
(21:12):
have the time. Why because there's too much money on
the line. I'm about to have a child. I'm gonna
have to have some patience for him when he's a
young child. Why, he's got a long life. He has
to learn some basic things like how to eat food
and read. But when I draft a guy in the
first round and I have about three years to figure out,
figure out if I'm gonna pick up his fifth year
option or if I'm gonna find a way to pivot
(21:33):
and my team's good, I don't have unlimited time. JJ's
in year and a half. Is he getting three years? Maybe?
Maybe not? What if he just fucking blows and it's like,
is he gonna be the starter going into year three?
Because I've seen in other places that's not how it
works anymore. Times have changed. So, Yeah, we used to
have more patience when we weren't paying guys that much
money when they were on long contracts. You have to
(21:56):
decide immediately what's gonna happen and what's not gonna happen.
Here's the other thing. You're charging, especially plays like Minnesota,
a lot of money to be in these suites, to
have these good seats, Like you're asking people to give
their time to watch you play. Their time is your
most valuable assets. How you pay for everything. So when
you suck like it's a problem. And especially given their
(22:18):
situation who he's replacing, who looks like he's taking Seattle
to the playoffs. So there is a tangible pressure on
JJ McCarthy, not even debatal. Just like all these young quarterbacks.
There's pressure on Caleb Williams to play well this year
because next year is not guaranteed on the Bears. If
you think I'm crazy for saying that, you just haven't
been falling the same league I've been falling, it is
(22:41):
what it is. There's lack of patience in everything we do.
That's just the way our society works now. So you
either adapt to it or you just keep complaining about it.
It's no different my job. I wasn't able to generate revenue,
and this podcast didn't get people listen, this podcast would
exist on the volume. This is pretty black and white
to these industries we all work in. And when you
(23:02):
get drafted really high and you go to a good team,
the expectations are pretty high. You don't get to just
ease into things. So the pressure on JJ McCarthy this
weekend is immense. I actually think there's some underrated pressure
on the Bills because the Patriots clearly are not going away,
and most of us expect them to play pretty well
and probably beat the Atlanta Falcons. And if you just
(23:22):
look at the Patriots schedule like they're just gonna end
up winning twelve thirteen games, well, if you're the Bills,
you've already dropped a couple. You've already lost the Patriots,
and you got to go play them in New England. Now,
in theory, you got still got the better quarterback, you know,
accomplished coach. It's not like you're gonna be quote unquote
underman when you're playing them. But you lose this Chiefs game,
(23:43):
all of a sudden, we look around and go, God,
are we sure that they're gonna win the division? And listen,
two things. When I was gambling to do some parlays
on division winners, I didn't even touch the ravens of
the Bills because their odds were so bad and I
thought they were just like, listen, I'm not even messing
with that. I'd be stunning if they didn't win, but
not even playing. The Bills were like almost four to
(24:03):
one favorite to win, the minus four hundred to win
the division. And you beat the Chiefs, who you've handled
before in the regular season, you're still in good shape.
You lose this game, all of a sudden, they've beat
you and you're one game behind them again, assuming they lose,
because they have another game where if they beat the
(24:24):
Atlanta Falcons, like, let's face it, the Atlanta Falcons be
three and five, and all of a sudden, we'd be
talking about is Ray Morris gonna make it to the
end of the year, Like is he gonna survive? And
when the season ends and they win seven games after
trading their first round pick, are all these guys getting fired?
And this is when you kind of start like the
McDaniel thing. We knew coming in they were gonna suck.
(24:44):
We knew it was gonna go bad. Lee shocking thing
we've ever seen that we're talking about him, you know,
losing his job, getting fired like that happens. But when
you look at Atlanta, you could have made the case
Atlanta was a ten win team this season. I thought
it was on the table. Now I bet again. But
it's like I could have seen a scenario and now
all of a sudden, you're three and five, Well, you
got nine games left, you're gonna go. You'd have to
(25:09):
go six and three in those nine to just get
to nine and eight. You're definitely not going seven to two.
You haven't proven anything, but more than likely you're a
four and five team, a five and fourteen, and if
that's the case, you're under five hundred, missing the playoffs again.
So to me, the Bills like they got to win
(25:29):
this game just to hold serve with the Patriots. J. J. McCarthy.
People are gonna have sling in some takes because everyone's
gonna be paying attention to that game. And this Atlanta
thing could get really weird, really fast, because the trade
deadline is next week, and this kind of solidifies like
if you're a team in the mix, you're obviously not
selling off any pieces, and some of these pieces are
(25:50):
just guys that are gonna be free agency. You're not
gonna re sign. So it's like, hey, would you trade
this guy right now for a fourth or fifth round
pick instead of just playing out the season. If you're
a playoff team, it's worth it to have that guy.
And then you look at the real bad teams. It's like,
are the Jets gun trade players? Do the Titans have
any players to trade? You know? If the Falcons lose
(26:10):
to the Cowboys on Monday Night? Like, are they in
the business of trading some of their guys? Who would
even be that tradable Boodha Baker type? Does he even
want to leave? So it's like usually the trade deadline
historically in the NFL has been the most boring. It's
definitely amped up over the last couple of years because
we have a lot more aggressive, you know, kind of
(26:30):
young gms. But I just don't know, maybe like a
Jeffrey Simmons, But my expectations for the trade deadline would
be a lot of like, you know, kind of smaller
trades that we've seen, like so and so have traded
for some corner that most people have never heard of.
That would be my expectation. So if a blockbuster comes,
(26:50):
I think we would all be knocked back a little bit. Okay,
I'll get you out of here on this because it's
Fugazi Friday. I got too Fugazi's for you. My first
Fugazi when NBC in the NBA reunited and it was
announced that the NBA assigned this new deal with Amazon Prime,
new partners no longer with TNT, they've reupted with ESPN,
(27:14):
and they're getting back with NBC. So we're gonna hear
that NBC theme song. I think I didn't watch it,
but I heard someone's talking about, like Bob Costas has
been doing intros. They're kind of doing a throwback for
my youth. When I think about the NBC. When I
was a kid in the NBA was dominating. It was
Michael Jordan on Sunday mornings against the Knicks or the Pacers.
(27:35):
It felt no different than watching Packers Lions or Chiefs Bills.
It was a really big deal that I don't know
anyone with a pulse that likes sports that missed so
once they announced that Michael Jordan the greatest basketball player
and just one of the coolest universally respected individuals was
coming back and gonna be on the broadcast. I was like,
(27:58):
this has gotta be cool. Not even that my expectations
were that big. I didn't expect him to see like
three times a week sitting on a studio. But when
they announced Michael Jordan NBC gonna work together, I was like, huh,
I'm Michael gonna slingk some takes like Michael gonna be
like shitting on a guy. It turns out that Mike
(28:19):
Turco did an interview with Michael Jordan at Michael Jordan's house,
and let's just say the interview was an hour long,
and they have taken snippets of this interview and they
just show a little bit week to week. That is
the reunion of Michael Jordan and NBC. He really is nothing,
and I don't blame Michael. One thing I appreciate about
(28:42):
Michael is in this world where we know everything about everybody,
especially famous, rich people, we don't know that much about Michael.
We only know that he likes to booze, smoke cigars,
and play a lot of golf, which we've known for
thirty plus years. But just in terms of he ain't
tweeting he ain't Instagram and he lives a life pretty mysterious,
(29:05):
and this is kind of classic Michael Jordan. It's like, yeah,
I'll let you announce that I'm coming back, but I'm
not really coming back. I'll just have Mic over. He
can come and hell, he can stay the night. Well
we'll have a few cocktails, watch a game after we
do the interview. But this is what I'm giving you.
It's like what And I blame NBC, and as an
NBC hater because I love golf, and when they have
(29:26):
from the Ryder Cup to the US Open, their product
is by far the worst. You talk about an operation
running a fugazi NBC and they're branding of this Michael
Jordan relationship all timer and last but not least. I'm
not proud to say this because as I've aged, you
(29:48):
can't outrun a bad diet. Really resonates with me. But
most of my life never been in great shape, but
I could eat relatively what I wanted, and I've always
worked out. I think it's kind of helped my stress
levels and helps me sleep. Working out is not my share.
I can work out seven days a week, but as
you get older, your diet kind of dictates your body
(30:09):
more than working out you can outrun. It's very true.
I have a sweet tooth. I love sweets. It's one
thing I struggle with as I get older of just
no ice cream, no candy, nothing like that can be
a downfall of mine. I could actually kick carbs for
a month and no problem. It's usually sugars that are
my problem. So over the course of my forty years
(30:32):
on this planet, and definitely the last twenty five, I've
meann a lot of candy in my day, a lot.
And I love Halloween. Like most people like eating candy.
I can slam the Minis Reeses, Snickers, Milky Ways all day.
I'm more of a chocolate guy than the Starburst sour
Patch kid that not that I hate that, but like
(30:52):
I think there's a line of delineation between the two.
My wife, a lot of people I know love that
type candy. I would never even crossed my mind to
buy that type candy if I'm in a store, if
I'm in a gas station or whatever. Well, one thing
I have noticed, I would say over the course of
the last ten years, but definitely recently last three or
four years, I think these companies it's obviously a couple
(31:16):
of major companies selling you Snickers, Reese's Pieces, Milky Way, whatever.
I think they're making way shittier of a product than
they were in years pack. I think the ingredients they
use are way cheaper. I think it tastes dramatically worse.
(31:36):
Like sometimes I'll just have one of those little Snickers
or Milky Ways, like the little minies, and think, this
is not good. This tastes like very chemically, it just
doesn't taste good anymore. And I'm a candy I'm not hating.
This isn't like a conspiracy theory in the sense of
like candies really bad for you. I don't care. That's
not what I mean. I'm just saying the actual product
(31:57):
and the flavor in your mouth to me, is way
worse than it was ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. My
theory on that is obviously probably I guess, less people
eating crappier foods. So if you still want to sell more,
you gotta make more. Maybe you make it with cheaper
ingredients so it's cheaper. So even if you sell less,
(32:17):
you still make more because it's cheaper to produce. I
don't know, but you can't convince me that the snickers
or the Reeses that I'll eat over the next couple
of days tastes the same as it did in twenty
ten or two thousand. I just don't believe you, because
when I taste it sometimes it actually helps me because
I don't even want to eat anymore because I don't
think it tastes for it good. It tastes cheap. So
(32:40):
whatever candies they're slinging, I love Halloween, and anyone giving
out apples or toothbrushes, you're a fucking loser. You're a loser,
but be careful. Maybe the bigger ones are better than
the minis, but I do think the minise is really
slipping in quality. Okay, we bring him back again because
(33:11):
I need some good juju. He has molded me into
hammer some of these dogs to buy low when everyone's
shortened the team and I have taken that strategy the
last couple of weeks, and I have been getting annihilated.
These favorites are kicking ass and taking names my main
man Stucky from the Action Network. Follow Big Bets on Campus,
follow the Action Network podcast. All of our lines here
(33:34):
are presented by our good friends and our partners. At
hard Rock. Bet Stucky. I think you were throwing out
some numbers last week on the favorites and the overs.
It's been a good stretch for people just throwing money
on the good teams.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Yeah, favorites went foresighting back too many dogs last week.
Who did I have last week? I had on Sunday,
I have the Saints. We ended up turning the ball
over a million times, but it was a Sunday that
normal that I would have gotten killed in, and I'm
lucky that I didn't, because favorites went eleven and two
(34:13):
against spread, which is the best winning percentage on any
Sunday where I guess for the whole week, they went
eleven and two. His Chiefs covered Monday, Chargers covered Thursday.
That's the best winning percentage in any single week in
the NFL since nineteen eighty five.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Oh my god, Okay, let's just dive right in. You know,
this is your classic spot where it's like everyone out
on Minnesota. They got some injuries. Carson Wentz just died,
so hopefully JJ McCarthy can walk, and JJ's back in
against the Lions in Detroit. Now this is you know,
(34:51):
he's he's a big deal. In that area because of
what he brought to the college. But there probably won't
be many people rooting for the Minnesota Vikings because they
have JJ McCarthy in that place. This is the type
number that I would have hammered Minnesota over the last
couple of weeks. But my logic here is pretty simple.
I think this season's about to really get away from them,
(35:14):
And sometimes you know you screw up a quarterback situation
because logic like, I don't blame them for doing what
they did, but it feels like the forty nine ers
went through this. They got lucky brock Purdy, they drafted
the seventh round. He saved him. Sometimes you get in
one of these situations, you draft a guy high, you
end up letting Sam Donald walk. All of a sudden,
you got Carson Wentz dead on the ground. And JJ
(35:36):
McCarthy's played eight quarters of his career in a year
and a half. So I just think this thing, I
get to have a good coaching staff, But it does
feel like Minnesota's It could end here and it could
get really ugly against a team we know how good
Detroit is at home. I just think this is a
type spot with Dan Campbell Kelvin Shepard getting some LSU buzz.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
How good has he been? Outdid inning?
Speaker 2 (36:01):
He really had? I mean they you've watched him the
last couple of weeks. Uh, two weeks ago? Was it?
When they played Monday night football with Tray Then it
was like, this is one of the most impressive things
I can remember.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
I mean, a bunch of backups off the street playing
in the secondary. He also had a really good game
plan against the Ravens for how they contained Lamar his legs.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
And that was Monday. Was that Monday night or Sunday night?
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Well? Both, like there was. I think Aikman was the
the Bucks game, Yeah he was. And then but a
couple of weeks before then, I don't know if it
was a Sunday or Monday. I think maybe would have
been a.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Sunday, but I think it was Monday night football.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Yeah, it could have been Monday night too. He did
a really good job against the Ravens. He's been he's
been great, and they have a ton of injuries.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
That's where I'm taking I'm hammering the Lions here. I'm
taking the Lions. This number could probably get to ten.
This got a chance, Ducky, this could get weird and
ugly from Minnesota and it could start early because, like
you said, the defensive coordinator has been in his bag.
We know Detroit is good on offense. Last time I looked,
when's last time Minnesota covered anybody?
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Yeah, I mean the Vikings should get Van Ginkle back,
which is big. They've been using Dallas Turner in his
place and he's not.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
That have bus Central written all over it.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
It's I mean, you're like, here's the thing with McCarthy
is what he's shown us. We haven't seen much. And
by the way, you're right, like the Vikings season easily
could slip away because you think about it. This year
they have three wins. They came against Jake Browning, Dylan
Gabriel and then the Bears in Week one when they
(37:39):
needed to come back and McCarthy only had one. He
had that one good quarter. That's all he's shown us,
is one good quarter. If you look at all his
numbers so far, they're bad. The company that he's with
is bad. It's like some of the worst quarterbacks that
have all fland. Now the sample size is still small,
so you know he's taken some time off the injury.
(38:00):
Is he going to come back here if they've extended
rest Lions also on a by he's going to come
back here and look better. I don't know the answer
to that. I think the number is a little too
I based on where I make it, But I don't
know if I can trust McCarthy. So I don't blame
you for going with the Lions at home. Like Dan
Campbell is just a cash cow and that's all they
do is cover. He's been great off the buy at
(38:21):
home indoors. GoF is almost automatic, and like the Lions
are going to score and everyone. Gof's been great against
the Blitz. You know, Flores is going to bring the Blitz.
He's really gotten the best of Flora's over the past
couple of matchups. The secondary injuries can spare me a
little bit with Detroit, but from everything I've seen, you
know Detroit's going to score at home, and I'm not
(38:43):
sure McCarthy can keep up. So I have no strong
opinion on it as of right now. But I don't
blame you for taking the Lions, Like, just take the
Troit and cash sixty five percent of the time. It's
basically what Dan Campbell has done.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
You know, Tomlin has been winning for a long time.
And I said a couple of days ago on my
podcast that we're literally on right now that listen, I'm
done ever saying like, oh, this is time to fire him.
I don't expect the organization ever wants to say they
fired him, but like it does feel if his superpower,
because now if you look, I don't think I think
(39:17):
he was favored against Seattle week two, they got they
lost by two touchdowns. Last week the second half it
looked the Packers are dramatically better. And now if you're
at home again back to back weeks home Dog, the
classic Tomlin spot, a place where he was like seventy percent.
If he can't win those games, and not only win
those games, but if you're let's say he loses this
game by double digits, like you are, you're taking steps
(39:41):
backwards because now we've seen him play Indie, the Packers
in Seattle, three high end playoff teams. We already seen
him last couple of years against the Bills and the
Ravens in the playoffs, not even close we saw the
end of last year. Kind of feels like we're seeing
that again. Their defense is terrible. It does feel like
it's starting to go Okay, is this thing really over?
(40:01):
This is a I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, but
does feel a little bit of a fork in the
road spot, especially when you look at the way they've
built their team, like for his Steeler career, Like, if
he's not winning this game, I think you look at
the rest of the season, you go, yeah, maybe they're
not gonna end up winning the division. We're recording this
before the Ravens game on Thursday night, but even the Bengal,
the Bengals win this weekend, it's like, all of a sudden,
(40:23):
he's got the fight to win this division. That's pretty crazy, stucky,
and I think the Steelers are in trouble.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Ravens are actually favored to win the division right now
at two and five, which is insane, Like you can
go bet that and the Ravens are the favorites.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
That is beyond insane.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
It's crazy. Now, the Ravens have a ridiculously easy schedule.
If you know, when anyone's listening to this, they would
you already know the result of the game against the Dolphins.
But after this week they have this is the quarterbacks
they face coming up McCarthy, Gabriel Fields, Flacco, Rogers twice Flacco,
(41:12):
and then at the end they have Rogers twice. The
end of the season, it's they host the Patriots and
they go to the Packers. So they could rattle off
like six or seven straight wins here and the Steelers
schedule obviously it's tougher. And then the Ravens played them twice,
so they can really make up ground. But yeah, I
went this is the Thomas spot that I trust. So
(41:33):
I got to the window.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
You're right back to back being home underdogs and losing
the first lake.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
That closed last week at two and a half. Like
the Packers, I still the Packers better than the Colts.
Like the difference for me this week on why I'm
trusting the Steelers is I still think the Packers are
a couple points better than the Colts. Now some disagree,
market might disagree, but the difference between the the Colts
offense has been historically good, so are this year now.
(42:01):
Granted their schedule has been pretty.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Laughable, but still like never put right.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
Yeah, you got to play the Titans twice for Jonathanillors
six touchdowns against the Titans this year, I'm crazy and
They've played nothing but indoor games and two games in
so far. Their only road game outdoors was in Tennessee
when it was eighty degrees against that joke Titans defense.
So this is like outdoors in some conditions. But the
Steelers defense it's bad. It's they're underperforming because their talent,
(42:32):
like Joey Porter is a good corner, he's not playing well.
You have Ramsey there, you have your defensive line, but
now you lost your safety and Deshaun Elliott. I'm curious
to see what they do if they shake up the secondary,
if they shake up some of their coveragers, because the
defense has been really poor this year. But I think
that the market's gone a little too far on the
(42:55):
Colts especially.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
They can get their their DB's look slow. That's part
of the problem.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Yeah, you can't run Sleigh Is. I think watched they've
been starting to swap him out for Echos. It's yeah,
the defense is very problematic, but so I don't think
they're really gonna slow down the Colts enough. You might
get a classic like Pittsburgh Voodoo. Some turnovers here, Daniel
Jones maybe overdue for one of those games. The Steelers
(43:22):
also have a big kicker advantage in this stadium, which
is the hardest to kick in the NFL, which maybe
plays a role, but I just think the Steelers offense
can keep up. The difference between the Colts and the
Packers to me is the Packers have a really good
defense and the Colts right now do not because their
corners are hurt Travarious Ward being on ir Jalen Johnson,
(43:42):
They're outside corners right now are extremely weak. They also
are the worst in the league at defending tight ends well.
The Steelers use multiple tight ends on fifty five percent
of their snaps, one of the most tight end heavy
offenses in the league, and the Colts can't cover tight ends.
Linebackers say these really struggle in that aspect, so I
think the Steers cand take advantage of that. The should be
able to run the ball. Rogers can kind of methodically
(44:05):
move the ball down the field. The Colts don't have
a pass rush like the Packers either, so I think
the Steelers can keep up here. I think it's too
many points for what it's worth. When Tomlin closes as
a dog of three or more, he is forty twenty
one and three against the spread. Sixty five point six percent.
Most profitable coach of all time in this spot eleven
(44:25):
two and three against the spread at home, covering by
eight points per game. That's eighty five percent. And when
that opponent has a winning percentage of sixty percent or
more ten to one in one against the spread, covering
by ten points per game. This is the rah Ras spot.
This is off back to back losses. He could have
said that about last week. Yep, you would have been wrong.
But history says that he covers these more times than not.
(44:48):
And I just think that the line is to I
think that this should be slightly under three. So I
took the field especially I can get like three in
a hook, even you have to pay for it a
little bit. I do like that. And a lot of
it has to do with the matchup of the Steelers
offense versus the Colts defense. We'll see if Austin and
Tom and can cook up something defensively, because nothing really
(45:09):
has been working. I mean, yes, they wanted New England,
but it took like five turnovers to shut that offense down.
They were moving the ball. That defense definitely has the problems.
They're gonna need what in company to cause some turnovers
to slow down the Colts this week. But I think
the market's gone a little bit too far on the Colts.
I've been wrong with four. But I did bet the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
They didn't even say I mean, yeah, granted they hit
him a couple of times and he pulled off some
miraculous throws, but no sacks. It's like, man, we're paying
a lot of money for the D line, TJ. We
need you to be you know, Miles Garrett or something here.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Yeah, I get why they paid what I would not have.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
Like, it's he's been very hit or miss. When he's
been good, he's been good, but he's also been in
in MIAI. So he's been like an older player.
Speaker 1 (45:52):
Yeah, and then all that money at this at his
age right now, where it's like it feels like a
team that needs to just blow it up eventually and
start over. You got to find your quarterback of the future.
But they're like, hang on. If you're a Steelers fan,
it's like, how for how many hitters are you going
to be nine and eight? Go to the playoffs lose
(46:13):
your first game. I mean that's something when a playoff
game is in I don't know, twenty sixteen, a.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
Long time ago.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Yeah, so it's been like the same story ever since,
been Big Ben retiring. Even at the end of the
Big Ben's career, it was kind of the same. And
you know, now they have Rogers. I just heard them
say they want Rodgers to come back next year.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
It's like, well, he has been the least of their worries,
but it hasn't. The other thing is hasn't got cold yet.
Remember last year got cold. And you know they're different players.
Obviously Rogers been in RUSS but some of that. You
look at their schedule. He's going to be playing in
some cold ass games in November and December. So we'll
say that's a good point something for me to keep
an eye on it. You know, this isn't a unique game.
(46:52):
And I told you this before we hit record is
this isn't a perfect parallel. But like when Jim Harball
was hired with the forty nine ers forever, it was like, ah,
the forty nine ers have a lot of good players
and you just need a real coach. They could be
a frisky team, be like a wildcard team all of
a sudden midway through the seasons, like this team's really good.
Because they're winning all these games. The dust settles that
(47:14):
they had the number one seed. Now Eli ended up
beating him in the AFC Championship game, but they hosted
the NFC Championship game after having like a seven eight
year run of embarrassment. I mean one point in time,
Pete Carroll turned him down to stay at USC. It
was pretty matt Lioner. Rumors were that he you know,
he didn't declare to the draft because he didn't want
to go to the forty nine ers, like it was
bleak that they were treated like the Jets a little
(47:36):
different in New England because it hasn't been that long.
But Vrabel clearly has instantaneously made them a real team.
Now they benefit from the schedule, but he's a big
time coach, and it does feel like are we going
to look up? It's like are the Patriots about to
win twelve or thirteen games? And like they're in the
mix to win the division. And on the flip side,
(47:57):
it felt like last week was like the moment when
everyone got on board, is like, is were him and
everyone in this organization gonna get canned at the end
of this year because they wait, they gave the owner,
or they got the owner to give ninety million dollars
to a quarterback last year that they benched and then
as the highest paid backup in the history of the league,
came in a game and looked atrocious. And now it
feels like he's kind of coaching for his gig, not
(48:19):
like he's gonna get fired midseason. But you go three
and five like, this thing get away from you fast.
So this is like I bet against New England as
a big favorite over like two of the last three weeks.
I've been burned, so I'm not gonna do it. But
and there's no way I could trust Raheem Morris. And
as of recording this, I don't even know who their
quarterback is this week, but I think Atlanta they lose
(48:41):
this game especially and don't even cover this bread again
five and a half points on the road against New England.
This thing could get really ugly stucky, really fast.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Yeah. I did play the Falcons. It's a little scary.
I mean down the road they have not looked like
the same team. Now, granted they didn't look they looked
better indoors last week. This is just like this is
similar to the Colts, like I'm taking my stand here
that the market has gone a little bit too far. Now.
I bet, let's see there's still a six out there.
I would look for the six if you can find it.
(49:15):
I just think the market's gone a little too moore.
I mean, like, the Patriots were seven point favorites last
week at home against Dylan Gabriel, and obviously they get upgraded,
the Falcons get downgraded. But the Falcons played with Kirk Cousins,
who look lost. There's no Drake Lennon there without three
or four defensive starters, and they just came out in
the days. It happens in the NFL, and this is
a spot that I love. Historically, teams off a loss
by more than two touchdowns when they are favored by
(49:37):
seven or more. So, the Falcons favored by seven last week,
got blown out the next week. They're thirty three and
sixteen against the spread over the past twenty years, sixty
seven percent. They covered by over a field goal per game,
twenty four to nine and one. When they go on
the road after that happens ten to three and one
against the spread. As a road dog of more than
a field goal, that's just a fancy way of saying
(50:00):
a big, big favorite got embarrassed. It's the NFL. Teams
are never as bad or as good as a week.
The next week after that happens usually gonna get their
best effort, and in this case, the Falcons should be healthier.
On defense. One of the things that they do best
is that they prevent explosive passing plays. They're second in
the NFL in that department. That's a huge part of
Drake May's game. I mean, he throws an elite deep ball.
(50:21):
He's been deadly in that department. Falcons do a good
job of preventing those. They also can get some pressure
when they're healthy, and they should be much healthier. They
do miss de Bouton Diablo, their linebacker. They got Bertrand
in there. He's just terrible, but hes he really they
really miss him in the running game, run defense, but
New England's run game isn't that great. And this New
(50:42):
England offense, this New England defense is not good. They
can stop the run, but they have issues in coverage.
Their linebackers specifically can't cover. So I think, like Bijon
out of the backfield, I think that Drake London should
be back this week. That's huge. I mean, not having
him last week just killed the offense and then Cousins
looked lost and washed. And I think Pitts can have
(51:05):
a big day here. They should be able to move
the ball. I'm expecting Penis back. Looks like he's trending up.
I think the defense will be healthier, And I mean,
this is a Patriots team. Look, I may is the
real deal, and you're right, they're gonna win. Most likely,
they're gonna win double digit games assuming they stay healthy.
They've been one of the healthiest teams in the league
this year. They've also been pretty fortunate a fourth downs.
(51:27):
Maybe there's some regression coming there. They're ten to twelve
and fourth down the opponents are just three and eleven.
Those things are huge swings in games. But this is
a team that did lose at home to the Steelers.
They did lose at home to the Raiders. You got
to keep that in mind and their wins. They had
a really impressive win at Buffalo. There are other wins.
The Dolphins by six, they blew out the Panthers, the
(51:48):
Saints by six, they blew up the Titans, and then
they blew up Dylan Gabriel and the Browns, and the
Browns defense is just not the same on the road.
Dylan Gabriel is not the type of quarterback that's going
to throw the bounds one of the past once you
have to throw on this newing on defense. And I
think Atlanta does have the personnel because I'm expecting Penix
and I am expecting London back. So I did play
(52:12):
Atlanta Bilo sell high spot. I'm expecting a max effort,
expecting a healthier team. I do think we're getting close
to the peak of the market on the Patriots, not
I could be wrong in that aspect. There are you know,
every year in the NFL, there's I shouldn't say every
most year in the NFL, there's usually a team that
the market can't.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
Catch up to commanders last.
Speaker 1 (52:35):
Year, yep, and they're just you know, you upgrade them,
like when I outgrade teams, I don't like, all right,
I'm gonna upgrade them, you know, astronomically in one week. Right,
it's incremental and you try to make your best guess
of how much better this team is than what you
thought coming into the season, and your prior is still
a matter up to a point so sometimes the market
can't catch up their team, and it works on the
(52:55):
other end, to the other end of the spectrum, there's
some teams at the market just can't get right of
how bad they actually are. And that's why you have
a team like the Titans who are four and twenty
one against the spread over the past twenty five games.
It's just on the fathoms. I'm guilty in a I've
been very guilty in the past. I was the head
of that train last year and the market just can't
(53:17):
you can't get them right. There were some Browns teams
back in the day that would always take sharp money.
I used to pat them all the time and they
just were so bad, and but you would say your
numbers would be all right. This has gone too far,
But really, in reality it hasn't because the market hasn't
botten val yet and there's a chance that we haven't
reached the peak. On the Colts offense, this really is
and the Colts and the Patriots are very similar. You
(53:37):
have their offense has been great, Drake may has been great,
Daniel Jones been great. But they've played like soft schedules.
Their defenses have holes. But they're both six and two
against the spread. They both continue to cover and maybe
we're just we haven't gone far enough yet. I'm taking
a stand. I did fade both of them this week,
(53:59):
so I did bet the Falcons and the Steelers. Wish
me luck.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
Remember there was like might have been Flora's year one,
So would that have been like nineteen or eighteen when
they were like it would have been nineteen because they
were kind of tanking for a quarterback. I'm pretty sure
they got a couple of lines that got near twenty
maybe over twenty against the Patsy that was I think
that's like the biggest line in the covid ones hard
because some guys didn't the teams didn't have quarterback or whatever.
(54:23):
But like actual football games, I remember that Dolphins team
with Flora's got pretty ugly, pretty bleak. I kind of
missed that, and and I talk a lot of shit
about the NBA for tanking. You can't have that. But
in the NFL, like every five years, have something situation
like that would intrigue me. Agreed thet they got a
great punt team. It's like Bilchu.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
Broncos Jags twenty thirteen. The Broncos, I believe her twenty
seven point favorite. It's hard to even think about.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
And they ended up the biggest NFL line of like
the last couple decades. Probably it has to be. Yes,
there was a game where like, well it was the
final score of that game.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
Thirty five nineteen the Broncos one, so the Jags. The
Jags were rowing five, the Broncos were five and zero.
The Broncos at Peyton manning really good defense. The Jags
were starting Chad Henny who ended up throwing for three
hundred in that game. Oddly enough, and uh.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
That line wouldn't be that big today, would No, that
is insane.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
There was a line this is a COVID year when
the in the COVID. During COVID, the Saints went to
the Broncos and had no quarterbacks left. Yeah, and they
had to start a Wake Forest wide receiver at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (55:49):
And that came sick.
Speaker 1 (55:52):
They were like, I think it was like plus seventeen.
The total was like thirty four. I ended up betting
the over end. I stupidly bet the the Saints with
a wide receiver a quarterback. He did play some quarterback
in college, but.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
I thought it was Denver that played the wide receiver
at the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
Yes, you're right, because it was You're right. You're right.
I got that mixed up. They were playing the Saints
and they were catching like seventeen and a half at home,
and I ended up betting them in the under. And
I think the final score was, like I want to say,
it was like twenty eight to three or something.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
It was rough. I remember watching because I wanted to see.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
It was one of the worst games I've ever watched.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
Those are bleigue times. Thank god, we're never going back. Yes, okay, okay,
Speaking of the Broncos, you nailed the Houston game last
week that the rest didn't hit him because the forty
nine ers roll out of defensive line that was not
capable of taking advantage of anybody. That's not really the
case here with the Broncos. The problem is is one
thing that really stood out in that Niner game as
(56:57):
Colton mckivitz. They just gave him an extension, which I
think we can debate whether that's smart or not because
he plays a guy like Will Anderson. Will Anderson looks
like he's Derek Thomas or fucking Lawrence Taylor. He was
dominant in that game. Now, Denver's got a good offensive line,
but Houston's defense is really good. I mean the Will
Anderson is a monster. You know that guy. I would
(57:21):
love for that guy to be on my squad. It
does feel though this offensive line for Houston and I
get there Missus Certan, who's one of the best players
in the league. And I think Riley moss I was
watching the game last week and that he got like
three straight pi's and they're like, hey, leads the league
by a wide margin. I mean right after I said
that he's getting some p i s. But that offensive line,
(57:42):
you know, CJ looked awesome, but he had all time
to throw. I don't know if that's gonna be the
case here. I think I I kind of like Denver
a lot. Now this number has come down. I looked
as more as plus one and a half. But it
does feel like a matchup game, tough spot for Houston.
Speaker 1 (58:01):
I think I'm gonna beat Houston, but I can see
the case. I've made this case for the Texans four
and against before, and it's the case you just made.
Like strouding Away is a pressure merchant, like if he
is not under pressure because that offensive line is so
bad he can carve up defenses if he is, and
(58:23):
that offensive line is very vulnerable, and you go up
against elite defensive front like we saw it against the Rams,
we saw it against the Seahawks, the entire offense collapses,
and you're certainly going up against an elite defensive front
and Denver and they will certainly bring the blitz. Strout
of struggled against the blitz as well, So I wouldn't
blame anyone for taking the Broncos with that logic. However,
(58:46):
I don't know if Denver's defense can be as effective
without Sartan, Like the ripple effects without him are massive,
Like he basically takes away one side of the field,
takes away your number one receiver, and it allows them
to be so aggressive. It allows them to have so
much flexibility in aggression. Will they still have that, I
(59:08):
don't know. They might play a little They played a
little bit more conservative last week, but they had a lead,
so it's hard to read too much into that. But
it's a big drop off from him to Abram's drain
and Detexans should have Nico Collins and Christian Kirk back
this week. That's pretty big Broncos also a dead last
and league covering running backs out of the backfield that's
(59:29):
been Woody Marx has given them a little juice in
that department. So that's a way that Houston can potentially
move the ball. The young receivers for Houston did look
a lot better last week. I think they can carry
some of the momentum over and it's not going to
take much to win this game. The totals forty indoors
for a reason. These are two great defenses. But at
the end of the day, like I'm it's especially the
(59:52):
set one, I'm taking Stroud over Nicks. I'm taking the
Houston defense over the Broncos defense, especially with that's heir
ten and they're at home, and this is like this
Houston defense, they're like similar to the Colts offense. Not
enough people are talking about how historically good this pass
defense has been for the Texans. This year, they are
(01:00:14):
number one in the league by a wide margin, and
they're gonna play a lot of quarters, They're gonna play
a lot of zone and bo Knicks has been miserable
against both this year. And I mean, you look at
this Broncos team. Yes, they have six wins, but man
(01:00:35):
that they've been lucky. They beat the Titans at home
by one possession. They beat Jake Browning, they beat Justin
Field by two in London, they beat the Giants at
home by one when they were down twenty. They came
back from down seventeen to three against Philly to win
by four. Then last week they blew out the road Cowboys.
It was an impressive win. Knicks was impressive, but the
(01:00:56):
Cowboys defense, Like, if you look at Nick's numbers this year,
most of his damage that he's done has come against
the Bengals defense, the Cowboys defense, and then the Giants
defense when they and they didn't do anything to the
fourth quarter when the Giants lost all their defensive backs.
Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
This is a big spot for bo Nicks. I mean,
this is this is if you're gonna take Denver seriously,
he plays well, then you feel good.
Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
If yeah, and he doesn't get over well like you
just got like, because the Denver's defense is probably like
the Houston offense is not gonna light the world on
fire any week. I mean even last week. They were
up at one point in that game four fifty to one,
fifty yards. They had the ball, the entire and then
it's like a one possession game. You're like, yeah, what
the hell is going on? So Nick doesn't even have
(01:01:43):
to be great, but he can't be a disaster. And
he's had games where he's a disaster. But it's still
okay because the Denver defense is so good and but
and they're playing against a defense it's not elite. Well,
this is an elite defense. There is no certain So
I'm gonna go to Houston. But your hypothesis and your
(01:02:03):
premise on just saying like, look, the offensive line is
gonna hold up. That's gonna be the difference. I can't
follow you for that logic.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Okay, let's get to the main events. Chiefs have Buffalo. Obviously,
Buffalo has played really well against them in the regular
season over the years, but they have never beat them
in the playoffs, right zero to four, And I don't know.
To me, it's hard not to love the Chiefs in
this spot. They go in they win, not only would
Kansas City be one of the hottest teams in the league,
(01:02:47):
it'd be hard to see them like, yeah, they're probably
gonna win the AFC again, assuming things they held it
because the quarterback looks awesome. Their offense is dramatically better
with Rice Back and Hollywood Brown in there. Their running
backs are all playing well. They avoided disaster. Jacob just
you know, sprained his need and you know you saw
like him be pretty a static when they checked it
out for the ACL and everything was good on the
(01:03:07):
sideline with the trainer. I don't know something. I know
Buffalo dominated last week, but I mean it's like, what
do you even make of that? As someone that had
Buffalo at the beginning of the season to go to
the Super Bowl. I don't know. It just feels like
I just don't think their personnel is good enough on
defense when the dust settles, and that they're gonna get
a big time test this weekend because I think, you know,
(01:03:29):
over the years, I don't know if the Chiefs the
motivation hasn't quite been the same in the regular season
as the way they obviously get up for the playoffs.
I think they're gonna take this game pretty seriously. You know,
they got to buy I would expect the Chiefs a
little kitchen sink game here, like, hey, motherfuckers, we're back
fully back. I think you're gonna get a full you know,
(01:03:51):
Mike Tyson, like right swing from Andy Reid this week
with some stuff they got in their back box, especially
after last week. They you could tell after like the
third it's like this stage called off the Dogs. You've
been on this forever. You know Andy is not a
college coach. He's not running it up like Signetti. I
think this week Buffalo better be careful because I think
the Chiefs are kind of come in firing.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
Yeah, I wish I had a hot take on this game.
I really do. I mean, like, in order to bet
the Chiefs here like she's minus one and a half two,
like you'd have to make this like just from a
pure projector if this is how you bet, you'd have
to like to show value, and I'd have to make
them like at least over a field goal, like after
(01:04:38):
adjusting for home field. Like so we're saying like that
the Chiefs are, you know, four four and a half
points better than the Bills in order like that, would
that would be enough for me to say, Okay, I'll
I'll lay it here.
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
We'll this line be if they were as game was
an arrowhead.
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
No, I'm just saying, like I guess it would because you're.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Just doing that in a neutral field the way you're
looking at it, right.
Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
Yeah, I'm no, I'm saying, like on a neutral field,
that's how much better they would have to be. And
then you adjust for home field, you know, and I
would make it slightly for a field goal. Then I
could justify taking this price. Now, the Bills have defensive injuries.
I get Oliver going on, I are their linebackers are
banged up, their staties are banged up, and that's been
the biggest issue on their defense. And they really haven't
(01:05:26):
played anyone this year and they're LOSTO the Patriots, the
should have lost the Ravens. The rest of their games
have been you know, you're playing the Jets, the Dolphins,
the Panthers. So it's hard to really get a true
read on just how trouble this defense is, especially with
some of their injuries up front. Now their run is
very susceptible, but that's not really the Chiefs game. But
(01:05:48):
also they can be attacked like their States is gonna
attacked their linebackers right now, and can be attacked over
the middle of the field, and that's somewhere where the
Chiefs certainly can take advantage of. I do think like
in a way we were at the peak on the Chiefs,
like we've seen their offense, Like they're laying two points
at Buffalo, and how much higher can you get on them?
(01:06:13):
I don't think you can. I mean, the Ravens were
considered number one in the league coming into the year,
at the top dog. They were favorites to win the
Super Bowl. And they weren't even this high in Week
one at Buffalo. So yeah, I just can't get there.
And like, look it's Josh Allen at home. They lose
like once every eighteen months at home, and they did
(01:06:36):
already happen this year, but maybe that's their one loss. Now.
The Chiefs offense is trending up. But let's remember they
played the Washington defense which had like everyone hurt, no
pass rush. They played the Raiders when Crosby got hurt,
and the Raiders are just a mess. And that's their
last two weeks. So it eyes looked a little And look,
they've had offensive line injuries. Not gonna matter against the
(01:06:58):
Raiders at Crosby and washed in the last week. If
there's one thing Buffalo can do, it is they can
get pressure. But to me, this just it's just just
screams who's gonna have the ball last. You know, Allen's
gonna put up a fight. He uses legs a ton.
He averages like ten ten attempts per game every time
they played the Chiefs. So he's gonna extend drive. He's
(01:07:20):
gonna put his body on the line like this. This
is an all out Allen game too. I agree with
that you're gonna get the kitchen sink from the Chiefs.
Like these games are even more important to them. It's
not like they have a five game lead in the
division right like their division, they started behind the eight ball. Like,
these games are very important.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
There's a massive game for both teams.
Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
I mean huge because the Bills also now their Bills
are used to just running by the division. They have
the Patriots, so for playoff positioning for everything. So I
think you can get both teams best shots. I think
it'll be an awesome game to watch. If either team
goes up like ten, I'll be betting the other sidelive
most likely because either quarterback will easily their team back
(01:08:00):
in the game. And yeah, I think this will just
be a heavyweight fight that will be awesome to watch.
But I don't really have that out of a take.
But the Chiefs offense might just be too much for
the current state of this Bill's defense. But then again,
like the Chiefs, Rundy is vulnerable this year, and that's
(01:08:22):
what everything starts for the Bills with their run game,
which I think they'll be able to get going here,
and then like it's just gonna be Allen making plays,
Holmes making plays like there's not much mystery here. It'll
be fun to watch. I'll probably look the bet at Live.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Okay, let's do the quick primetime games. I don't like.
I love Seattle in this spot coming off of Bye Washington,
licking their wounds. Just had a road Monday night game
at Arrowhead. Their defense looks so bad. I mean, the
guy's been a legendary player, but God, Bobby Wagner looks slow.
So and anytime you're middle linebacker, like this isn't nineteen
(01:08:59):
ninety two. You're playing all these teams that are spreading
you out, all these running backs and tight ends can
really catch you, kind of get exposed in space fast.
And I just think, Seattle, I've been you, and you've
been on this guy for a long time. If McDonald
was an offensive coach, I mean, I think Seattle has
a very good chance that they can get healthy. Like
if they are healthy, you know, like they're gonna be
(01:09:20):
really good. Now, Sam Donald's gonna have that kind of
elephant in the room, like what's he like in the big,
big games? But holy shit, he look good. I think Seattle,
I think Washington. We talked about it last week. They're
in major trouble. Now they're in real trouble. And like,
to me, I don't even think they're in trouble. They're
just not very good this year.
Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
Defense is bad, the offense is banged up, and that
fourth down barons that I was talking over there came
coming back to buy.
Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
Andy Reid just said it. He's like it was a
difference in the game. They went oh too, and we
got some biggest pots with turnament touchdowns and it's a game.
Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
That was it, and that last year they were getting
all those fourth downs. Now there's no McLaurin. Tunsall's banged up.
Daniels is gonna play. But how healthy is is he
fully mobile? Obviously when he is fully mobile, but like
he hasn't been the same quarterback as last year. Was
a little bit of a sophomore slump. But also like
the timing's been off. He didn't get to work with
the receivers leading up to the season, and every week
(01:10:12):
there's different receivers playing, So like this offense is nowhere
close to where it was last year. Now teams kind
of know their tendencies, know what Cliff and company want
to do with Daniel, so it's just not the same operation.
And then the defense you mentioned like Lattimore, he's over
the hill, mentioned Wagner that against the Seattle play action.
(01:10:34):
Wagner is going to be in trouble there. And Washington
can't generate any pressure because of all their defensive line injuries.
I mean, they've been decimated up front, and their secondary
wasn't very good to begin with. And now you have
Seattle coming and new Ken generate pressure without blitzing at
one of the top rates in the league, and their
secondary is only getting healthier. You mentioned coming off of
by Washington short week. The McDonald if Silks and McDonald
(01:10:59):
have been tremendous on the road throughout his tenure. The
only thing that gives me pause here is like just
the uncertainty with mclauren, which would lead itself to it
would only help the Seattle side, or are we is
this the bottom of the market on Washington? It isn't
like a savior season all in spot like you lose
this game at like your season is it's close to done?
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
Like just so?
Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
And are we like at the peak on Seattle? I'm
not sure we've gotten there yet, but that would be
my one concerns. But I do think Seattle has significant
advantages on both sides of the ball against this very
beat up Washington offense that it just doesn't have the
same the same dynamic without McLaurin stretching the field, and
(01:11:46):
it doesn't enable you to do a lot of the
things that they want to do, And just the offense
in general hasn't been as good because of some of
the reasons that I mentioned before. So yeah, I think
Seattle's a real player in the NFC.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
You know, one thing looking at their stats from two
thousand and twenty four is they were so potent scoring
with the run game. I mean, Brian Robinson eight touchdowns
for him, Jane Daniels ran for six and he led
the team in rushing, and McNichols and Eckler combined for
any touchdowns. It's like right now, they're they're depending on
the seventh round rookie who is talented and I know
(01:12:18):
people in the NFL that liked him a lot, but
that's their running game was just a potent kind of
it was a group unit. It's not like they had
Christian McCaffrey or Saquon Barkley, but led by Jane Daniels,
they were pretty and losing Eckler, I mean, he was
really good out of the backfield. It just a threat
to catch the ball. Like they're just not like their
(01:12:39):
offense doesn't seem very well rounded. They can throw some
bombs at Terry McLaurin, but that's about all they got.
Speaker 1 (01:12:45):
This week. Yeah, it's nowhere close to the same unit
they called lightning in a bottle the last year. And
not to say Daniels is not gonna be great, but
this year looks like it's heading toward a lost season
and the league is kind of that they're gonna have
to adjust because the league's adjusted to a lot of
what Cliff was doing with him last year and that
they've just been decimated by injuries. Like that's sometimes that's
(01:13:08):
what happens, and you lose a season because of it.
I mean look no further than your forty nine ers.
I mean, I don't even trying to keep track of
the forty nine ers who's playing like it's a full
time job. I Like, last week they go in completely decimated,
and then like Winter's and Collins Alliett, like all these
(01:13:29):
other guys get hurt. The list of who's on a
high rn who's questionable every week, and then you don't
even know who's starting a quarterback there.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
Well, they are a team that at this point in
time it's like just stay away from. Like I couldn't
even bet them against the Giants because it's like I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:13:45):
I mean, they the Giants also a ton of injuries too.
Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
Well exactly. But the other thing with the forty nine ers,
like they can lose guys during the game, so like
all of a sudden, they could be halftimes, like ah
Kittle's out and McCaffrey's questionable to come back in, so
you just at any moment it could completely unravel. They
they've That's a game that to me is a stay
away game because like, oh the Giants suck the Niners.
I don't know who's playing for the Niners.
Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
Ricky Piersall ain't massive a game. I agree, Uh, it's
that game is It's funny now it's twenty I mean,
credit the Kyle for getting into a five and three,
but it's hard to see.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
If he wins nine games, it's pretty impressive given the Yeah,
he's Party probably.
Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
The year, like if you gets some playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
Yeah, I mean, I bet Purdy I'd put his over
under games started this year like under four. Right now,
it ain't looking pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:14:31):
You know, you don't think he plays this week. You
think it's Shones.
Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Yeah, just and even if he does, like I could
see it being like testing it out it because this
isn't a fixable thing, you know, it's not one of
them those. So it's like it's gonna linger. And if
he can't run around, then you just go with mac
Jones is gonna continue to start Like if we saw
Party against Jacksonville, he was like fifty percent of himself
And that's when it didn't even feel as bad clearly
(01:14:55):
as it's felt lately. I think there was a story
out a couple of weeks ago that were they playing
Oh Atlanta. He had tried he had done a workout
earlier in the day on Sunday because they had the
night game and they were hoping like that would propel
him into the following week to get last week in Houston,
and I don't think it felt good. And these fucking
turf tos are he can't function. So it's like I
(01:15:16):
have if you tell me, perty has just never seen
the rest of the year. I believe the Niners just
try to claw their way to nine ish wins and
just see where the dust that was getting the playoffs.
It would be an impressive season by Kyle Agree.
Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
Yeah, I think the best thing that they can do is, yeah,
clawn to the playoffs and you get to see who
are these young defenders exactly are worth keeping around and
where your holes still exist?
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Okay, well end with this game Monday night. I don't
know if when the schedule came out the schedule makers
were smiling on this one or were like, yeah, we
can't hit them all. Dallas hosting the Cardinals. This feels
like a game from like when we were like in
junior high. These teams, I feel the Arizona Cardinals doabas
they used to be in the same division. They used
to play each other a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
Yep, you know, back robably the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
Yeah, back in Tempe. So uh, I don't know. I mean,
I guess if Kyler plays, he's never lost in this stadium.
That'll be something that this has a feel of Troy
being pissed off in the booth now because he's mad
at any the quarterbacks because he has to he has
to call this game. Now. Granted it's probably an easy
travel for him. He doesn't, he just gets to drive
right to the stadium. But I don't know, if you tell,
I like the Cardinals more if Jacobe's starting than if
(01:16:30):
Kyler's starting. But this game's got they got its Monday
night or most people wouldn't be paying attention to this thing.
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
Yep, we're all gonna watch. We know that, so we
can all complain about the matchup and then we'll all
have it on our TV. So in the NFL knows
that they have us and they always will. Like, honestly,
is there a matchup that this Monday night the NF
(01:17:00):
y'all could put on and you would not watch, Like
let's say Titans post the Saints. You watch them?
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
Yeah, and they know that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Uh, and I know that now I have to that
that would be if I didn't do this for a living.
Let's say I was in the insurance world, but love
football as much as I love football, So I'm still
watching a lot of games that could be one where
if my wife was like, hey, you want to go
get dinner? You know where you could? You know, there
would be like the builds are playing the Chiefs, I
(01:17:31):
say no, the Titan Saints, like it can get bad enough.
If I didn't do this for a living, I would
do other things, yeah, if they became, if I was
asked to do them. Now, if I wasn't asked to
do them, I would watch.
Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
Yeap all right. Well in regards to this game, That's.
Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
How college football works for me a little bit like
sometimes Saturday night, no way, I'm missing this, and sometimes
like yeah, we can go get dinner or whatever?
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
Got it? Uh yeah, in this in regard to this game,
it's sitting right now pretty much juice two and a half.
I want a three with Arizona. Basically, I mean, Dallas
offense is a different animal home. They're a juggernaut at home,
Like they they're just gonna score. They're just gonna score
(01:18:16):
in that dome indoors, no matter who you are now
Arizona's defense is gonna be healthier here. They've been dealing
with a lot of corner injuries. They should be healthy
on that front. They do a good job of preventing
explosive plays. It's a well schemed defense. But Dallas is
gonna put up their points. However, Like, how's Arizona not
gonna score? I don't even care if it's Mrrier Persett
(01:18:38):
and their offenses look better with Brissette, it doesn't matter.
It's the Dallas defense every like the Dallas defenses and
they have more injuries. The Dallas defense made Bicks look
like Montana last week. I mean it is. It is
absolutely atrocious, and so I think Arizona can keep and
(01:19:00):
I do think that there's so like the year. I
think if I could bet at Arizona and make Dallas
beat me by you know, more than three with their defense,
I'd be happy to do it because I think there
is a difference, a perception difference between like who Arizona
is and then who they actually, you know, what people
think they are, because this is a team that easily
(01:19:21):
could be five and two. Now they're two and five.
They lost five straight. They start off the year two
and zero. They lose to San Francisco by one on
the road because they dropped the wide and pass easily
could have been win, arguably should have been. They lose
to Seattle, probably got out of play the Seattle on
the final play of the game because they messed up
the kickoff. They lose by three. They lose to the Titans,
and one of the most bizarre losses you'll ever see
(01:19:43):
because they dropped the ball going in the end zone
and then there was an interception fumbled for a touchdown.
They lose by one. Then they played two teams that
everyone is saying our contenders to the Zuper Bowl. They
play at Indianapolis without their receivers, still with defensive injuries,
with Persettes starting. They lose them only by four. And
then they played the Packers and only lose by four.
So they've had five losses in a row by a
(01:20:06):
combined thirteen points. Like they're in every game, it doesn't
meend some of them have been at Indianapolis has been
blowing out everybody, and against Green Bay it's one of
the best teams in the NFL in my opinion, So
like they're they're gonna be around in this game. They're frisky,
they're coming off of buy, they are well schemed on defense.
Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
And like you know that they have a better Their
point differential is minus one. The forty nine Ers at
five and three is minus four.
Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
That's hilarious. What are the uh the Bucks probably built
some last week.
Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
Yeah, the Bucks are nineteen. So I mean the for
six and two team with a plus nineteen, it's not great.
You know, for example, Seattle's you know Seattle and the
Rams or plus fifty seven and plus fifty eight, right,
you know, the Broncos are plus fifty six like most
good teams. The Cults are shit plus one sixteen. The
Steelers are.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
Even Yeah, that makes that just makes perfect sense.
Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
So that the point is, like the difference between the
Cardinals and the Niners of five and three and two
and five is probably two or three total plays.
Speaker 1 (01:21:10):
Yeah, which is what football game?
Speaker 2 (01:21:12):
Which is the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:21:13):
Yeah, yeah, that's all it is. At betting too, I
always tell people like that, if you bet on a
football game, and code is the outcome of the game
is usually determined by like four or five plays, your
bet is usually determined by maybe four or five plays.
So a couple turnovers did you get them or not?
Three or four fourth downs, did they go against you
(01:21:35):
or not? Those are enormous swinging plays and.
Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
Could be could be a field goal hitting the upright
or not in the up right, And.
Speaker 1 (01:21:41):
You just have to you love football, You got to
live with Sometimes you're gonna run so bad on all
those things happening, and then sometimes you're gonna run really
well and you won't even notice because you'll say, like,
how is the right call? But whenever all those are
going against you, you're like, oh my god. But yeah,
if I can get three here with Arizona, this team
can play with anybody, and this Dallas defense just offers
(01:22:04):
no resistance whatsoever. Arizona should be able to do whatever
they want and at least should be an entertaining game.
Should be a lot of offense.
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
A couple of quick college things before you get out
of here. We brought him up last week and I
just saw it now with you with rules like kind
of fake little extension that makes his buy out a
little bit more expensive. And he's also playing Nebraska. I
mean he's playing USC this week, which he could lose
at home. The Jeff Brahm is now the betting favorite
to be the next coach or the on Paul market.
(01:22:51):
So like the I guess is that betting favorite or
just where the odd market makes him? Yeah, prediction market.
F Bram is currently the favorite to be the Penn
State Hey coach. He plays Virginia Tech this week. Pretty big,
pretty big favorite. Obviously, there was a story last week
about Sark and he got pissed off that he was
gonna go to the NFL and his team barely pulled
(01:23:13):
a game out of the crevices of his butt. And
now he plays Vandy where he's an underdog. I guess
Vandy's favorite dog. Yeah, small favorite at home, but I mean,
are you are you hammering Vandy in that spot?
Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
I don't. It's I kind of like the under in
that game. The Texas defense is super elite. I don't
know if arc is gonna play. I think he is, though,
so if you like Vandy and Vanny's is a machine
as an underdog under papya wait, I do think that
line is a two and a half and now I
was gonna get to like three three and a half.
Texas has one of the best safeties in the country too.
(01:23:50):
He wasn't supposed to play this speak he pctice because
I think he's also gonna play.
Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
And this it is like.
Speaker 1 (01:23:57):
Texas season, Like they needed this game, Vanny, surprisingly, doesn't
you know. And now if they don't win.
Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
If Texas loses, stuck you they got like seven to
five written all over them too.
Speaker 1 (01:24:08):
Yeah, they're done now, Vandy. If they lose this game,
they will have to win out and it might be
a game at Tennessee to end the year to see
who goes to the playoff between those two teams. That
would be electric. I think that's a neil and stadium.
But this is a tough spot for Bandy, like they.
Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
Just went you know, this is there. They normally play
that game like Texas, Texas A and m or you
know Michigan, Ohio State is at the last game of
the season. Yeah, but usually just haven't noticed.
Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
Yeah, Tennessie is a huge favorite. I mean, it means
something in the state.
Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
But it's like the big ball, like whatever Rouburn Bama
they play that week. I've never even noticed.
Speaker 1 (01:24:46):
Yeah, I mean most people wouldn't. It's usually a completely
irrelevant game.
Speaker 2 (01:24:50):
That's pretty sick. That'll be a big moment in Tennessee history,
Like this state I.
Speaker 1 (01:24:54):
Think like there is a good chance that that's an
elimination game. We're playing game depending.
Speaker 2 (01:24:59):
On how especial Tennessee wins this weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
Uh yeah, Now if Tennessee loses, yeah, they're probably done.
Then then they could knock out Dandy Ben. I actually
like Oklahoma in that game, catching three. I think it's
gonna be a close game. Tennessee's offense has played like
there're three there were wins in the SEC. Have come
against three teams who are zero to thirteen in the SEC.
They have not faced a top elite defense yet, Like
(01:25:24):
the Bama's defense this year is not elite. Georgia's defense
is not elite. And if you look at like sacrate
and pressure rate all the teams they face, there's only
one in the top fifty in sacrate. It's Alabama. They're
forty fifth. Oklahoma's number one, Zachary number one, and Havoc
So like Aguilar gets in trouble when you can pressure them.
I think the Oklahoma defense is gonna come the player
I'm taking the field, But it's gonna be close, though,
(01:25:44):
it's gonna be electric.
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Gun say, if Matier hadn't got hurt and been playing
at a high level. I mean, there's these chance Oklahoma's
undefeated right now. He kind of he got injured and
then he just turned into a different quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:25:53):
Yeah, and he looked a little healthier last week. They've
found a run game recently.
Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
The TENNFL part down the stretch a little bit could
have been right.
Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
I thought, yeah, this is they're hard to rate. I
will admit that, Like I don't know, like I still
I'm holding them up because I'm giving I gave him
a pass for the Texas game because Materier obviously shouldn't
have been out there and then he was still like recovering.
So they're they're difficult to but the Tennessee defense is
(01:26:20):
very bad. They it does look like they're their their
best corner Colton Hood. They are only good corner is
gonna play, but they're missing their two. Respect who we're
gonna start Ricky Gibson and Jamal McCoy is probably gonna
be first from ripping the didn't played all year because
of injury. They really missed them. But you can move
the ball on this Tennessee offense. I mean, like Kentucky
had their quarterback last week got five touchdown passes and
(01:26:42):
they were just move. Everyone's moving the ball up and
new on the field. So I think the difference will
be Oklahoma's defense, but should be a good game. Mandy,
I think weight on it. I do think it'll be
lower scoring. But this is Vandy's like fourth huge game
in a row for a team that's not used to
like those efforts. And this is Texas's season at home.
But wait on that for Bandits. I do think that
(01:27:02):
Arch will get ruled in and it' taff and then
it'll probably close it up three or above. And then
what is the other game you asked about that?
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
Yeah, that was That's pretty much. I mean the other
two I wrote down USC at Nebraska and Louisville is
a pretty big favorite at vo Tech with Jeff Brom
getting a lot of love.
Speaker 1 (01:27:23):
Yeah, but I would love I think Penn State would
be great to ire Brown. I think he's one of
the most underrated coaches in the country. And what he
wins more big games than anyone. He has more Top
five upsets than anybody. That's what Penn State has been missing.
He's an amazing game but an amazing play caller. Uh
you saw that against.
Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
Miami what's a knock on him, Like not a huge personality, right, yeah,
it's not a.
Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
Great like the recruiting, like he's gonna need to get
someone to do that. Like Louisville has been building their
teams in the portal pretty much every year, which like
if you're.
Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
He's not he's not Dan Lanning or Ryan Day out
there like hammering the pavement.
Speaker 1 (01:27:57):
Exactly, And like if you want to be who Penn
State wants to be, Like Ohio State is not building
their team in the portal every year, right, like they're
they're supplementing their team. But the same with Oregon. But
the best and that's what the best teams are going
to be moving forward. The most consistent is that you
have a pipeline and.
Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
You're basically like, I'm hiring you to beat Ohio State
in Oregon. Yes, yeah, but I do think it would
be a good or compete or just compete with them,
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:28:26):
Yeah, yeah, So I mean maybe it's not the best
fit for who Penn State wants to be, like yeah,
but I do think go Ever hires him. He is
a great coach. No, I think the line's about right
at Battech US sed Nebraska. No, idea. You have Matt Ruhle,
who's in eighteen against ranked teams, and then you have
Lincoln Riley. Maybe he just needs to go to Lincoln.
Maybe his namesake Lincoln Riley. His teams can't win on
(01:28:49):
the road against anyone with a pulse when they travel east.
USC might miss their backs here. But like this Nebraska
team has not been that impressive this year. They barely
pulled out some wins. They got embarrassed at Minnesota. Thought
that was a really poor effort. So I don't know.
I don't have a bet in either, but we'll certainly
be tuned in the uh Was there any other game
(01:29:14):
I wanted to.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
Mention this could be a big week. I've gotten deep
this week on the message boards, reddits and local podcasts.
Oklahoma their schedule that they could fall apart here, and
there's been some buzz that Venables might not be safe
and go after the hometown hero, Josh Hipel. I'll make
(01:29:36):
him a big offer, like there's there's and then all
of a sudden, if Josh Hipel went to Oklahoma in
a couple of months, that would mean Tennessee was open Texas.
I don't think that story was just you know, Diana's
been doing this long enough. I don't think she just
completely made that out. Yeah, yeah, clearly the Sark things
a little weird, and you go seven and five and
you have an unlimited budget like Ohio State Texas they
(01:29:59):
were just never going to tolerate that. So who's to
say Vandy all of a sudden, what if Vandy beats
him by double digits? Clark Lee, it's like, hey, they
hit struck Oil years ago, getting what's his name from
North Carolina? More academic, good guy? Would clark Lee make
some sense of Texas? You know? So it's who's Who's
(01:30:22):
clark Lee's agent, Jimmy Sexton. So it's like there's a
lot going on in the college football world with some
of these guys. I mean, I think clark Lee could
really establish himself like, hey, guys, I'm doing this in
the se fucking c So it's like we're summer all
and some of these guys like, it doesn't get any
harder than what I'm doing. He could become like one
beat a lane. You start rattling off some of the
(01:30:43):
because what he's doing is it's crazier than Signetti. Because
of the teams he's beating now like he's just working LSU.
You know, it's like that's he's just he's just gonna
work Texas Like that's where it's he just wins a
game like that against Missouri that's a slugfest like this.
This is pretty crazy, it really is.
Speaker 1 (01:31:02):
Yeah, this this team used to be a complete doormat.
Speaker 2 (01:31:05):
Like literally, even Saban's like, Okay, I'm just gonna change
my tune. I've been used to something. It's no longer
the case.
Speaker 1 (01:31:12):
Yeah, there would be like twenty eight thirty five one
hundred dogs in conference play, like just a complete freebe toy.
Speaker 2 (01:31:18):
J Frankly got pen sate right, It's like, how did
he just do that? At Vanderbilt yep.
Speaker 1 (01:31:22):
Yeah, they used to have home games where like you would,
it would be just empty, but then sections of the
opposing fan basis like it was. So it's good to
see like that stadium now packed and juduced by the program.
And they they're putting real money and resources into the
program now now that they have a nil because before
(01:31:42):
it was like just an academic stution. They couldn't be
they weren't paying guys under the table, they couldn't build anything.
Now with then il they're able to do that in
Clerkly has been a huge part of that. Yeah, they're
coaching Garcel's nuts this year. Like where's Lane go? That's
gonna be a huge domino if he leaves. Do you
have Florida, LSU, Arkansas, Penn State? Like South Carolina might
(01:32:06):
be open VA Tech which is now way down the list,
Like do you think Vannibles are safe? No, Like there's
there's just no patience now with all the money it's here,
Like I don't know where all this money came. It's insane,
Like they're just a fifty million dollar buyout, Like fifty
fifty million dollar buyouts. I wish someone would pay me
fifty million ago.
Speaker 2 (01:32:26):
I know I do this for the love of love
of it, but uh, it's all of a sudden, the
Lcross team's not gonna have cleats. You know, they're gonna
go into the locker room. It's like that it's gonna
start happening.
Speaker 1 (01:32:37):
Yeah, so the coaching carousel is gonna be nuts to
watch this off season. I did bet some Florida plus
seven and a half against Georgia. You gotta like Napier out.
They're gonna they're changing some things on that offense. The
defense is still really good, will be healthy. This week
they were without all their debats against Mississippi State coming
out of the buy. I think that they can get
They can jump on Georgia early. And this Georgia defense
(01:32:58):
is not your older others dogs like they're outside the
top hundred and pressure rate, sack rate, they're not. They
don't have a ton of your regular dudes up front,
so Lagway's gonna have time. They have weapons on the outside.
And Georgia has started slow every game this year in
five SEC games they're They've trailed by a total fifty
(01:33:19):
six to ten combined at the end of the first quarter.
That's crazy. They got to come back against Ole Miss.
They were almost down seventeen to nothing against Auburn without
that blown call. They had to come back against Alabama,
They had to come back against Tennessee. They usually could
have a couple more losses. Now, what you can do
if you do bet Florida, or even if you don't,
is if Georgia does go, indeed go down. Look at
(01:33:42):
Georgia live. Kirby Smart the best thing gave adjuster in
the sport. This happens over and over again, where if
he's down some adjustments that he makes, he figures out
some of the new things that the new wrinkles that
Florida is going to be using, and then Georgia and
Nevi it'll be comes back. So that's always worth a look.
He's won the multiple games this year with his in
(01:34:03):
game adjustments.
Speaker 2 (01:34:05):
Well, looking at the odds to win the national championships,
obviously Ohio State heavy favorite, is A and M a
little undervalued at nine to one. I mean, the talents
they have on that team is just like, geez, well,
weise they're coaches big time. I'd argue Notre Dame too.
I mean they proved last year. I mean when you
have defense, I mean A and M had three pass
(01:34:27):
rushers that all look like von Miller, they have abs,
they're screaming. I mean when they were screaming at LSU's guys,
I could imagine every dude that's ever played for the LSU,
especially in the last like twenty five years, you had
to just be embarrassed. You're like, that's what we used
to do to people. Now that this guy's barking our guy,
and you're like, there's no way that guy's gonna block
(01:34:47):
him and then he couldn't touch him. I mean he
barely could touch him as the guy's coming around the corner.
Like von Miller, I went, I didn't. I haven't watched
that much A and M. But you were like a
year early. You liked him to make the playoffs last
year in their quarterback situation, and this guy is way
better than he was last year. And defensively, I mean
those pass rushers holy shit.
Speaker 1 (01:35:08):
Yeah, cash as hell, he's a player. I mean LS was.
Also they were starting on a backup center attack on
yeh shot. It was bad. But yeah, I actually think
Name is the best team in the SEC. I think
they're slightly better than Alabama, like the Alabama defense. Like
if you think about it, everyone's like, oh, like Alabama
arguably could have lost to Georgia, right, Georgia has a
drop that would have won the game. They argumly could
(01:35:29):
have lost the South Carolina last week.
Speaker 2 (01:35:31):
Arguably they should have. I mean they got to.
Speaker 1 (01:35:35):
Pick six or in that game that just bounced right
into their hands. Like every they got a fumble late
to seal the game against Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt a couple of
red zone turnovers, but that game was back and forth, so,
like you know, and they lost to Florida State earlier
this year. It's not a super it's a very good team.
Now this had this year. I think the potentially super
League team is only Ohio State. Indiana might not be
(01:35:56):
too far behind, but I think a team that could
potentially because you're not gonna need to score, You're gonna
need a dynamic offense to be Ohio State. I think
Texas A and M is one of the handful that
might have that. And they're well coached, they have good
special teams, and the most important thing to me is
they're elite in the trenches. They have one of the
best offensive lines in college football. Their defensive line, as
(01:36:19):
you mentioned with Hound Company, they can get after the quarterback. Now,
there's some deficiencies in the back end, but I trust
Elco to continue to improve that defense. He's more hands
on this year. But yeah, with that offense, with their
running game, their receivers Concepcion Graver and the way that
Reid is playing. Uh, if I had a bet one
national title future like current odds, that's probably who we
(01:36:41):
look at.
Speaker 2 (01:36:42):
I love Elco too, It's like you know, you see
de boor. He clearly, you know, the got the old
jab to to lose some lbs over the last several years.
It looks way skinnier than he wants to. Yeah, Elko's
just your classic kind of throwback. I don't give a
I'm meeting pizza and co Openhagen, just and coffee and film.
(01:37:05):
We don't have enough Elchos roaming around. I mean, look,
Ryan days like dying his beard. Freeman's never taking a
day off the weight room. It's like, I appreciate Elko.
Speaker 1 (01:37:14):
Yeah, he's definitely a throwback. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:37:17):
His diet is more film, big film, pizza, coffee. Okay, Stucky,
let's enjoy the weekend and I will talk to you
next week.
Speaker 1 (01:37:30):
The volume
