Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin cowher
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Welcome in to the Herd here on a beautiful Friday
in Los Angeles. It's me Jason McIntyre in for Colin
Cowherd and very excited. I had an amazing night last night.
I watched a gripping soccer match that did not end
well for us. Then I watched, you know, the NBA
Draft second round, Brownie James. Of course, you know what

(00:51):
I did do last night, Alex what Alex Curry? I
did not watch two senior citizens argue at Bingo night.
I did not do that. Dam you didn't do it.
I need to get into that right now.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
It was a tough night for America all around, soccer wise,
debate wise, but we did get some history, as you
mentioned in the NBA Draft with the first ever father
son duo possibly playing together on team. Yeah, that's gonna
be apict Let's focus on the positives from Estery.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Hey, let's sports, shall we Let's start with USA Soccer. Boy,
this team, Oh boy, it was a rough one. I
gathered the family around the TV. Guys, got a big one,
gonna take down Panama, and oh boy, it ended in
spectacular disaster, conceding a goal late in the match and
losing to lowly Panama. Sorry Panama fans, Yeah, lowly two

(01:43):
to one and now it's winner go home Monday night
against Uruguay. It's a big one. You're gonna want to
reshape your plans for Monday night in Kansas City. It's
a tough spot for the USA Soccer Club. Listen, you
guys know this. In America we love winners. We love winners,
and globally we dominate a lot of sports. You go

(02:05):
look at the Olympics, Tennis, golf, basketball, on down the list, swimming,
track and field, the US rules. We're great at everything.
We cannot figure out this soccer thing. It always seems
to be one step forward, two steps back, and we've
got this golden generation of US soccer players. You go

(02:26):
on down the list, Polisic, Adams, McKinney, Eunice Musa who
inexplicably did not play yesterday. What the hellber Halter, We
got this golden generation. All these guys are between twenty
one and twenty six. We're ascending, We're competing with some
of the best. We tied Brazil recently and all signs

(02:47):
are pointing up. We're got Copa America. We can make
the final. We've got this. We're preparing for the World
Cup on our turf in twenty twenty six. And then
we go out last night and Tim waya a promising
wing gets a foolish, silly red card. There's no way
around it. He screwed us, and I don't That doesn't

(03:08):
mean go after Tim Way on social media like the
jabbronis are doing. He made a mistake. He had a dumb,
foolish mistake. Here he is, you can see on FS
one clobbering a guy in the head. Now he was frustrated.
If that's a shove to the chest, it's not a
red card. I can't really argue it. You know, Way
is screwed up.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Still.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Nevertheless, after that flow Balligan, a young promising stud on
our team, I mean puts in what's called a golazo,
just a left footed, awesome strike. We're up one nothing, Yes,
we've got this, we can hold it down. Everything's looking great.
Four minutes later we give up the equalizer and then
from that point on it was just a stressful. I

(03:49):
think it was like the next sixty five minutes, we're
full of stress, and of course we can see it
in the eighty third minute now and then we lose
two to one. Now, yesterday we talked with Alexi Lawless
and it was very clear Greg Burholter at the minimum
needs to get the US out of the group stage
and into the knockouts. That's the bare minimum. Well, yesterday
after the match, Alexi Lalas went off on Burholter.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
We've talked so much about this tournament being an assessment
of this team, an assessment of head coach Greg Burholter
relative to getting out of the group and playing against
the likes of Columbia and Brazil. Well, you know what
that challenge and that assessment and that ultimate assessment is
now going to happen in the third game against Uruguay,
and they better be up for it, because if they

(04:33):
do not go through Greg Burholter is going to lose
his job, and rightfully and fairly so. But this is
a situation that this team, including Greg Burholter, have created
for themselves. Now find a way to get out of it.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
He's not wrong. And listen, we've been here before. The
US always puts himself in difficult spots where it's win
advanced winning, get in. And you remember the great Landon
Donovan goal in the World Cup many ago. Last World
Cup against Iran, we had an amazing game. I know
it's Iran, folks. We can't lose. On Monday. We gotta

(05:10):
beat Uruga. We're gonna be underdogs.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I looked this up.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Uruguay has one loss since October, okay, and they've beaten
the likes of Argentina and Brazil in that same time frame,
and they shelled Mexico recently. So it's gonna be difficult.
I'll close on this for USA Soccer. We talked also
yesterday with Lallas about how this team is. You know,
the US has had the most accomplished group of players

(05:32):
playing overseas, but in some ways they're not. I'm not
calling them soft, they just don't have that hard scrabble gritty,
tough resolve feel that they used to have. And yesterday,
if you look at the fowls, Panama got away with
murder nineteen fouls, the US had four. They bullied us,

(05:53):
they pushed us around, they pushed our buttons. We took
the bait. And I'm just saying they've got to get
back to their old ways fighting because this Uruguay team
put it on Bolivia last night. Yeah, I watched that
over the old guy senior citizens. They scored five goals
against Bolivia. I mean, just a total bloodbath. The USA
must come out Monday, otherwise when this show reconvenes next week,

(06:14):
we're gonna be talking about next head coaching options for
USA Soccer. All right, Let's get to the NBA Draft,
which was split into two nights for the first time,
I believe ever. And I think this was partially done
because Lebron's son, Bronnie James, was gonna go in the
second round. Everybody knew he was gonna go fifty five.
There were some fun scenarios or someone else tries to

(06:34):
steal him, but that wasn't really gonna happen. We'll get
to the rich Paul scaring teams later in the show,
But I want to kind of focus on Bronny going
fifty five, the Lakers, Lebron, all that fun stuff, because
this is a great story father son duo teaming up
in the NBA. How can you not love it? Yet
here we are the usual suspects, the haters, the naysayers. Oh,

(06:57):
this is nepotism. How can this happen? Yeah, these same Jabroni's,
these meatballs. Where were they when Jannis was getting his
brother on the Bucks? Where were they when my Knicks Jr.
Smith was on the next Jared Smith's like, hey, can
we get my brother on the team? He joined the team.
This nepotism happens in sports. It happens in business, It

(07:18):
happens in entertainment, music, movies. It happens in coaching in
college basketball. Hey, by the way, guys, is Andy Reid's son.
Was he qualified to be a position coach in the NFL?
He can go look up his resume? How was he
a position coach? This happens everywhere. I don't know why
people are so worked up about Lebron and Bronnie. It

(07:40):
seems a little bit excessive. And when you listen to
Rob Polinka, talk about the Bronny decision. It was a
no brainer. Here's Rob Polinka last night.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
In the history of the NBA, there's never been a
father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court,
and that feels like something that could be magical. And
we know and have to respect, of course that Lebron
has a decision about his opt out, But if it

(08:11):
worked out that he was on our team next season,
NBA history could be made, and NBA history should be
made in a Lakers' uniform.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
I like that. That's nice. I like Brad Polinka sentiment.
Now I should turn back the clock just a little
bit for my favorite nepotism story of all time. You
guys know I'm a hardcore college hoops fan. I talked
about it yesterday. So there was this guy named Danny
Manning back in the day who was the best recruit
in the country. I mean, he was phenomenal and he
was down to Kansas and North Carolina. So the Kansas

(08:45):
coach at the time was Larry Brown. Okay, Danny Manning
awesome recruit. His father had been a truck driver for
four years. This was written about the New York Times.
You can look it up his dad was a truck driver.
So what did Larry Brown do? He went and hired
Danny Manning's dad as an assistant coach. Hey, come on
the staff in Kansas, and what would you know, a
couple days later, Danny Manning picked Kansas. Kind of worked

(09:06):
out for the Jayhawks. Huh, Danny Manning. Danny and the
miracles led Kansas to an awesome title. And I vividly
remember that championship because I'm a college basketball nerd. This
kind of thing happens. Nepotism's going to happen. Just it's
not the end of the world. There's no reason that
Lebron shouldn't get what he wants, which brings me to
Lebron and what I think is an incredible theory. It

(09:29):
was kind of poop pooed in the staff meeting. I
don't know how it'll go over now, so let's take
it all into consideration here. Okay, So Lebron can opt out,
he can change teams, he can go anywhere. There was
the small, veiled threat that I don't think anybody took seriously,
but it was out there. Hey, if Bronni's drafted by Utah,

(09:50):
maybe I'll go to Utah or Phoenix. And remember Golden
State went after Lebron back at the turry deadline in
I think February. Okay, so take all of it into
account and hear me out. A magician never shows his tricks,
so I don't expect Lebron to ever confirm any of this.
But what's to say Lebron didn't go to the Lakers
and say, hey, guys, I got this amazing podcasting partner.
You may know him. His name is JJ Reddick. He'd

(10:11):
make a phenomenal coach. Wait till he gets to the whiteboard,
he's gonna wow you.

Speaker 7 (10:16):
Fine.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Lebron will take a look at Reddick and oh, by
the way, guys, could you do me a solid and
draft my son at fifty five? That would be awesome. Fine,
Lebron will capitulate, We'll do what you want, and then
internally the Lakers are probably like, damn, the Miami Heat
did like everything Lebron wanted, then he left him high
and dry. Is he gonna screw us? But this is

(10:37):
thirty nine year old Lebron who's forty in December. Is
there a world whereas Lebron breaks down and the hey,
can we get Reddick as a coach. Yeah, sure, Lebron.
Hey can we draft my son?

Speaker 8 (10:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Lebron says, well, I'm gonna do you guys as solid.
You hooked me up. I'm near the end. Instead of
taking a max deal, can you just, I don't know,
workshop it out for me. Hey, what do we look
like if I took less than the max? Say, instead
of fifty five sixty million? What if I took forty
What if I took forty five mili? Is there a

(11:08):
world where you can present to me free agent options
that we could lay on because listen, I don't trust
any front offices. They screwed me in Cleveland. Everywhere I
go in the league front office is mess things up.
So is there a world where you guys could say, Hey, look,
we can get DeMar Derozian on the cheap. He wants
to be in LA he'll play for us. We could

(11:28):
get Tobias Harris on the chief as a seventh guy.
There's a world where Lebron goes to the Lakers. Can
you guys give me what I want Reddick and my
son and in return, you know what, wink wink, I'll
take less than the max and we can add a
couple more guys in free agency. I don't know. Klay
Thompson so far spent most of his summer out here

(11:50):
in Los Angeles, out in the beach cities. Can we
get cold we steal Clay from Steph Curry? Is that possible?

Speaker 9 (11:57):
Now?

Speaker 3 (11:58):
I know Clay wants all the money and all the years. Hey,
come play with us in La. Stick it to the Warriors.
The Lebron influences strong. I just wonder Lebron's gotten everything
he wants from the Lakers so far. Does he in exchange? Say,
you know what, I'm thirty nine. I don't need to
play for the max. I'm still gonna be a billionaire. Yeah,
I'll take a little less. Can you tell me for

(12:19):
sure who we're gonna land? And we could get right
back on top because I'm just telling you, we may
break it down later, maybe next week. The Western Conference
there is no dominant team.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
If you guys saw what happened in Denver, KCP all
of a sudden doesn't look like he's going back. Could
KCP be returning to the Lakers. He did win a
chip with Lebron and ad is there. I'm just saying
there are scenarios where the Lakers, Hey, Lebron, scratch our back,
We'll scratch yours, and that's how some of these deals

(12:50):
are done. I know people want to poop poo nepotism
and bash the Lakers. I think it's a little overblown,
and maybe I'm being too optimistic and too positive and
pro Lebron, but I would think he's gotten everything he
wants so far. I think Lebron will probably in turn
make some concessions with the Lakers, as we had in
a free agency, which starts, I think this weekend. So Alex, listen.

(13:13):
I know that's a wild theory and I'm sure Laker
fans are loving it or hating it. Where are you
on that any shot Lebron takes less than the max,
He's never taken less than the max when it comes
to money.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
I never want to suggest to an athlete to take less,
but if there was ever an athlete that could, Lebron
is one of those people. He is a billionaire and
he has this media empire. But again, like the Lakers
pride themselves in taking care of their own and this
is a perfect example of what they've done. Right, you
were talking about it earlier. I mean, if they wanted

(13:46):
to keep Lebron, this is something that they had to
do to get Bronnie. He said he wanted to play
with his son. It has never been done before, a
father son duo playing in the NBA. And Lebron James
is the all time greatest score in the history of
the NBA. He's one of the greatest players in the game,
one of the most impactful players we have ever seen.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
This needed to happen if you.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Wanted to move forward with Lebron James. And what's going
to motivate Lebron James more than himself wanting to win
a title, wanting to win one for his son with
his son. I'm going to Vegas this weekend. I'm putting
money on the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Oh I like that. I like that. Well, one team
I do not recommend betting on is the New England
Patriots and coming up Gerard Mayo. Oh my gosh, people
are gassing him up like he's going to be the
second coming of Bill Belichick. Are you kidding me? We'll
do that next year. On The Herd.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Eastern non Am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Back here on the Herd, It's me Jason McIntyre in
for Colin Cowherd, and I think you guys will be proud.
This is two days in a row. I have not
done a Jets segment, but I am cherry picking some
AFC East teams. Yesterday we did Dolphins. Was relentlessly positive,
kind of sort of about TUA today a little less
so about the New England Patriots. So a couple friends

(15:04):
of Fox, Julian Edelman who comes on this show regularly
and Rob Gronkowski, they got together to chop up Gerd
Mayo and the Patriots on Edelman's podcast called Games with Names,
And here's what they said about why Gerard Mayo was
built to be a head coach.

Speaker 8 (15:19):
Draw Mayo was just a phenomenon on the football field
with lining everyone up and then also in the meeting
rooms as well. He knew where every player needed to
be during any situation that occurred on the defensive side
of the ball. I mean, he knew how to read offenses,

(15:40):
he knew when the call out plays, and he was
always correct when he called the playout or else he
was just making the whole defense, just aware when that
play was going to be called. He was just always
alert and you could always tell that that was going
to translate into the next phase of his life.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Okay, sounds sounds very very how Gerrod Mayo he who knows,
maybe he's the next Belichick? Vegas disagrees. Have you guys
seen the Patriots win total four and a half, lowest
in the league, below the Carolina Panthers and below the
Denver Broncos. The Patriots are going to be really hot
due to this year, folks. I'm sorry to be harsh.

(16:19):
Here's the reality. You don't want to follow a legend, Okay,
it is extremely difficult. Bill Belichick. I don't think there's
any argument against him being the most successful, greatest coach
in NFL history. I just quickly glanced at a couple
guys who were also in that legendary category and left
and how the teams fared afterwards. Let's start with Don Shula,

(16:42):
who was a pretty damn good coach in Miami, undefeated
Dolphins blah blah blah. So he left in nineteen ninety five.
The Miami Dolphins since Shula left have three playoff wins.
You know, I was really good at math when I
was a kid. Not so much now. But that's almost
third years, three playoff wins, losing Shula have not been

(17:03):
able to find your slam dunk coach. Maybe McDaniel's the guy.
I like McDaniel. He's a good coach, but replacing a
legend extremely difficult. I found another one s guy by
the name of Joe Gibbs. Now, you guys, hardcore listeners
of this show, my podcast, no. I grew up in
northern Virginia. I was born in New York, but in
the family move because my dad got a job and
the Washington at the time, Redskins were everything in DC.

(17:26):
And Jason, who likes to go against the grain, contrarian Jason,
I did not like Washington. And they had this coach
named Joe Gibbs who was just freaking good, and they
were always in contention winning super Bowls, and you know,
I had to be there, like, oh, go Jets, you know,
and that Washington's racket up ten eleven, twelve wins and
I think they won the Super Bowl fifty five to
ten or something like that. Of course, I wasn't betting

(17:48):
at the time, But I was telling everybody Denver's gonna
beat Washington. I was way off. I just didn't like Washington.
Joe Gibbs was a beast. You guys want to know
how many playoff wins Washington has since Joe Gibbs left.
Joe Gibbs left last twenty five years. They have one
playoff win since Joe Gibbs left. A legend, a top
six coach in the history of football. It's difficult to

(18:11):
keep that ball rolling when you lose a legend, the
institutional knowledge that walked out the door when Bill Belichick
left or was shoved out, whichever you whichever storyline you prefer,
it went out and it's not coming back. And I
looked at the depth chart, folks. Listen, you guys know
I like Drake May leading up to the draft. I
like Drake May a lot. By all accounts, It's going

(18:33):
to be Jacoby Brissett's team this year. That's not a
good thing. Jacoby was set as a solid backup as
a starter with no weapons and a questionable offensive line.
It's bleak. Even the defense, which people are excited about.
Belichick was a defensive guy. You think the defense is
gonna stay up there now. Yards per play. They were
third defensively. That's very good, but you dug in closer

(18:55):
to the numbers and some of the DVA numbers which
taken into account every play, and they were middle of
the pack. With the legend Belichick, there's no world where
the Patriots and Mayo are successful this year. None, not
even if Drake may turns into foraging CJ.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Stroud.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
It's just not happening. Maybe in a couple of years
Mayo can get through these tough ones and they can
bounce back. But folks, I'm looking at the schedule, you know,
I know Joe Burrow starts off slow. They're not losing
to the Bengals Seattle. I guess it could be a win.
We'll see. I don't know. Jets, that's a loss. Niners,

(19:33):
that's a loss. Miami gets to go to New England.
That's a loss. Houston was in the playoffs. Jacksonville's a
potential playoff team. Jets. We're looking at one in seven
out of the gate for girod Mayo. And then this
guy doesn't know what he's doing. He was a great player,
he was smart. He was the Tom Brady of the Defense,
Good Luck, girod Mayo, Massive Uphill Climb.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and neonon Easter not a Empacific.

Speaker 7 (20:00):
Hey, what's up everybody?

Speaker 9 (20:01):
It's me three time pro bowler LeVar Arrington and I
couldn't be more excited to announce a podcast called Up
on Game?

Speaker 7 (20:08):
What is up on Game?

Speaker 9 (20:09):
You asked, along with my fellow pro bowler TJ. Huschman
Zada and Super Bowl champion. Yup, that's right, Plexico Burris.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with Me LeVar Arrington, TJ. Huschman Zada,

(20:32):
and Plexico Burrs on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or
wherever you get your podcast from.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Welcome back our number two here on the Herd. Jason
McIntyre in for Colin Coward. We have a special guest,
legendary RAMS receiver Tory Holt, stopping by in the studio
in five minutes. First, you need to let me cook
on this Brownnie nepotism, Rich Paul nonsense Alex, I'm gonna

(21:04):
try to contain myself because it getting worked up.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
You've been teasing this now for a bit. Top of
the show, after the first segment. There's a time where
like the nepotism I think actually works in your advantage.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
This could be one of those cases. I sure hope.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
So yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
So there was a report yesterday from the former GM
of the Warriors, Bob Myers, architect of the Splash Brothers
Warriors championship run, and he came out during the second
round of the draft and said, Rich Paul Lebron's guy
at clutch is calling teams and saying, do not draft
Bronnie James. He will go to Australia and play basketball

(21:42):
in the NBA. And oh my gosh, how could he
do that? So she's that is so wrong of him
to try to steer his client somewhere. Oh really, like
that's never happened before. Come on, I literally have a
list of a billion guys who have done this. We
could go NFL. Do you want to go NFL? You
remember Eli Manning?

Speaker 7 (22:01):
Anyone?

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Anyone remember Eli Manning coming out of the draft, Chargers
number one pick whatever, taking Eli Manning. He's a Manning.
He was good at Ole. Miss Eli Manning's dad comes out,
don't draft my son. He ain't gonna play for you guys.
Huh yeah, he doesn't want to play there as you're
a rotten franchise. I don't know if rotten was the
word he used. Probably a little harsher. And so guess what,

(22:24):
Chargers couldn't draft Eli. They have to do the trade.
It worked out for both teams. Although the Giants ended
up winning Super Bowls, Chargers didn't quite with Rivers. Guy
by the name of John Elway. You guys want to
read about that. Google is your friend. This happens in
the NBA. Chris STAPs Porzingis. I'm a Knicks fan. Okay,
twenty fifteen draft rolls around sixers at three. We want Porzingis. Hey, Porzingis,

(22:47):
can you give us your medicals? No, you can't have them.
Huh No, we don't want to go to Philadelphia. They
would not share Porzingis's medicals with Philly. They wouldn't work
out for Philly. Sixers. What do they have to end
up doing? Okay, I guess we'll draft jolil okafor who
had just won a chip with Duke and Oka four,
obviously a good player at the time, didn't pan out

(23:07):
for him quite in the NBA, but they couldn't draft
him because his group, his camp did not want him
going there. Folks, this happens all the freaking time. So
settle down on trying to crush Bronni for going to
the Lakers and go after Rich Paul for steering Bronnie
to play with his dad. Do I need to remind you,

(23:29):
guys of what happened with Kyrie Irving at the end
in Cleveland. So Kyrie and Lebron obviously they won the
amazing championship in twenty sixteen, coming back from down three
to one. They were tremendous, and then they get smoked
the next year when Kevin Durant shows up and Kyrie
gets winn that Lebron is not happy and he's probably
gonna be leaving at the end of his deal. So
Kyrie Irving goes to the Calves. This is all documented

(23:52):
and I'm not just off the cuff here. Hey, guys,
trade me. Okay, if you don't trade me, I'm gonna
have surgery and sit out the season. Kyrie Irving told
the Calves that Calves wet we gotta do something. So
they end up trading him to Boston. And you remember
a package for Isaiah Thomas and some dudes whatever, like

(24:14):
guys wanna play in certain places. This happens all the time.
Now we're talking about the fifty fifth overall pick in
the draft, and there's selective outrage. I'm gonna call it
faux outrage because it's Lebron's son and Rich Paul steering
his his client to the Lakers at fifty five. Now
it's unclear exactly who was threatening to take Bronnie. Was

(24:37):
it the Celtics at fifty four? Hey, we're gonna we're
gonna get your guy. We're gonna take Bronnie. We're gonna
get him, and then you have to pay up if
you want him. Well, like, is this a ransom? Is
this a hostage situation? The Lakers are gonna do their
best to get Bronnie on the court, keep him on
the roster, keep him out of the G League, get
him to play with his dad. It's a historical moment

(24:57):
in the NBA. What's so wrong with that? I'll just
repeat what I said in the first hour. A lot
of folks just don't like Lebron James Lebron could skate
say the sky is blue today. No, what are you
talking about. It's not it's it's green blue. People just
don't like Lebron anything he says. Now, this could date
back to the decision. This could have to do with

(25:17):
I don't know, politics, whatever it is. They just don't
like him, so they're freaking out. I'm just telling you, guys,
stand down, settle down, and enjoy the moment. This is
gonna be historical stuff next season when Lebron and his
son joined forces in La.

Speaker 7 (25:29):
All right, let's.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
Welcome in our guest, former NFL wide receiver he starred
with the Rams, The Greatest Show on Turf, Tory Holt.
There he is, Yes, sir, played with Kurt Warner, Marshall Faugh.
Great to see you, Isaac and Bruce Ooh. A lot
of good NFL topics. First of all, how's the off

(25:51):
season been for you? What do you what's your vibe
here on the NFL currently? All the landscape changing almost
every day.

Speaker 7 (25:57):
Man, it's been cool. You know.

Speaker 10 (25:59):
I do a show h during the during the year
with Solomon Wilcock on Serious XM. And then once the
season is over, Super Bowl and everything, so I kind
of take a step back, but I kind of keep
my eyes on what's happening. My son just graduated college,
so shout out to my son.

Speaker 7 (26:13):
Brayden that's from men C State. He's an engineer.

Speaker 10 (26:16):
My daughters are playing soccer, and my oldest daughter is
working towards her career now. So watching the kids grow
and do their thing. My wife and I shout out
to my wife too. By the way, we're celebrating our
anniversary today. I twenty second anniversary, your anniversary, Yeah yeah, yeah,
so uh but no, that's that's kind of what's been
going on in the in the offseason. And didn't seeing
all the changes in the National Football League. I know

(26:37):
we're going to talk about the Rams. But seeing my
guy Aaron Donald retire, yeah, big shouts out to a
d true true ramp.

Speaker 7 (26:44):
I wasn't. I wasn't.

Speaker 10 (26:46):
I think if you watched his body language the year
before then this year, though he gives you max effort,
it was just you know, just watching him how he
moved around, and then to see him uh exedal game.

Speaker 7 (26:56):
I was.

Speaker 10 (26:57):
I was happy for him. Well, deserved a Hall of
Fame career.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
So from a football perspective, the greatest defensive player on
the RAMS is now gone. Yeah, okay, he commanded double teams,
triple teams. What does this do to the secondary? The
pass rush? Is this the Rams defense? Should we expect
them to fall off a cliff?

Speaker 10 (27:15):
No? I don't think so. I think the expectations are
the same. I think that's Sean mcvay's message. They Yes,
they have a new coordinating shuler, but seanmvay has to
manage so many things, players being plucked, but also.

Speaker 7 (27:27):
Coaches being plucked year in and year out. But they
do it.

Speaker 10 (27:30):
They continue to do a really good job of drafting
and developing players. Kobe Turner has got to be good,
gotta be better. They had a heck of a rookie
Season's got to be better. Brown's got to be better.
They got two rookies from Florida State, Fisk as well
as Jared Verse, who has to step up now. No
one replaces Aaron Donald collectively, though, these guys have to

(27:50):
play at a very high level. And what I love
about this Rams young front.

Speaker 7 (27:53):
They're all drafted. They drafted these guys.

Speaker 10 (27:55):
That they're playing again, showing you confidence that they have
in their play and then their players delivering.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Now, I've never been in a RAMS huddle, but I
can pretty much say with some certainty that Jalen Ramsey
was a leader when he was there, and Aaron Donald.

Speaker 11 (28:09):
Was the leader.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
So what that's a massive void to fill? Like, how
do they do that? Can one guy do it? Can multiple?

Speaker 10 (28:17):
I think that happens as the season goals, as they
continue going through the summers, they get into training camp.
I think the leader will continue to identify as itself
and this football team is smart enough to go to
rock with their leader like Aaron. Like you mentioned, Aaron
Donald's been their guy for so long. He led them
on and off the football field. But someone else on
the defensive side of the football field will emerge as

(28:37):
their leader. We know offensively a Cooper Cup and Polka
and Matthew Stafford, how they'll be. Someone defensively will emerge.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
All right, let me get to my guy, Aaron Rodgers.
I'm a Jets fan. Listen, you've been and you're in
the NFL for a long time. Rogers allegedly disappeared to
Egypt or wherever during mandatory camp. Yeah, he's the leader,
was a team the captain can you recall a time
when your quarterback was just not.

Speaker 10 (29:04):
Never Look, I get it. You know he's a fantastic player,
fantastic leader. Unless it was something families we haven't really heard.
That's the only way I'm missing camp. That's the only
way that I'm missing camp. With the expectations that are
on the Jets, all of it's win championships because of

(29:26):
a big part of that suppuse.

Speaker 7 (29:27):
Aaron Rogers has owned the roster.

Speaker 10 (29:29):
They've revamped their office line, they got talent on the perimeter,
they got it Brieste Hall in the backfield. Mandatory mini
camp is is when it all starts. Is when the
coach steps in there and says he here's where we're going.
Here is what we're trying to accomplish. Link and your
main guy is not there certainly a cause of concern
for me. It would be eating me up if I'm

(29:50):
not in many camp with my teammates, like I don't.
I can't even stomach that. The only time that I
missed some training camp time is when I was holding
out for my for my contract and s Lois and
it was eating up, it was eating even like, but
I had to make my stance because I was trying
to get my bread. So this is totally, for me
an unacceptable. Aaron Rodgers already knows that the pressure is on,

(30:16):
But the message that I think that it's sending to
your teammates is that.

Speaker 7 (30:19):
I'm still a little bit above everyone.

Speaker 10 (30:22):
And then for the I think too, the cult of
staff and the organization is allowing it to happen as well.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
Well, yeah, remember when the owner jumps on a private
jet to go recruit Rogers. He feels like he's got
the run of the show. I'll bring in Hackett to MIOSI,
I'll bring in I'll bring in all these guys. And
then he say, I'm gonna blow off Mini camp. What
are you gonna do about it?

Speaker 10 (30:39):
Noah, I just I don't I don't understand it. I
don't get out on it. I don't think it's acceptable. Again,
Aaron Rodgers would have the answer to it, to why
he's missed.

Speaker 7 (30:48):
But those other guys are expecting for.

Speaker 10 (30:50):
Everyone to be there going towards the goal, and that's
to win championships. With the Jets, they have to win
and they can't even get past Buffalo, and then the
main guy is not even in camp.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Were you ever in a Pro Bowl with him? Do
you know Rogers at all?

Speaker 10 (31:02):
No, I don't. I know Aaron from Afar. I think
I've maybe met him one time. I did meet one
time at the at the Honors, and I had an
opportunity to say hello to Aaron. Hell of a player,
heck of a guy who seems to be but gott
to be in camping. There's nothing else. If it's nothing
with family or so that Trump's football.

Speaker 7 (31:20):
You gotta be in camp. But you guys get ready
to go.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
I won't speculate, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't talk
to his family and he's not married. So we Oh, anyways, well,
let's move on other quarterback situations around the league. So
Jordan Love had a good eight game with the Packers. Yeah,
and now all of a sudden, it's like, oh, he's
gonna be a fifty million dollar guy off an eight
game sample size. What am I missing here? No?

Speaker 7 (31:39):
I think the potential for Jordan Love is great. You know.

Speaker 10 (31:43):
I think he's certainly has shown the ability to run
and manage an offense.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
I think being.

Speaker 10 (31:48):
Able to go and play at the level in that
particular division, with Detroit being the guys I think he's
shown that he can do that. So I like Jordan Love.
I think his trajectory is continuing to ascend. He's got
an offensive coordinator that's talented, that's creative, and then he
has a young talent around him. So I like where
Jordan Love is going, and I think his future will

(32:10):
continue to be bright.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
I'm not asking you to look at anybody's pockets, but
when you see the headline Jared Goff fifty five million
dollars per year, are you just I mean, that's kind
of sort of stunning for a guy.

Speaker 11 (32:20):
And GoF is a good quarterback, don't get me wrong. Yeah, yeah,
but good good timing certainly, certainly, Yes, Yes, Jared Goff
has been very productive in this league. Let's not get
a twisted. He's been very productive in this league. What
he did here in Los.

Speaker 10 (32:30):
Angeles taking a team to the Super Bowl, been getting
close to taking a team back to a Super Bowl,
competing there in Detroit.

Speaker 7 (32:39):
I couldn't get past San Francisco.

Speaker 10 (32:40):
Jared Golf has been very productive in this league, and
I think his production was timely in terms of how
the market is, in terms of how the captives and
the type of money these guys are demanding.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Walk me through what you think is happening with Tua
and the Dolphins. The latest report is that Miami is
just not going to go to golf Trevor Lawrence type numbers.
They're just not going to do that. And Tua's side
is like, hey, this is what the market says. Oh,
by the way, look at my numbers compared to Lawrence.
Does he have a case.

Speaker 10 (33:07):
Again the situation where it's it's timing, that's the type
of money, that's where the salary is for these for
these quarterbacks. Yes, Toua needs to win more. Certainly, just
like I said, Aaron Rodgers has to get past Buffalo,
Miami Dolphins have to get past Buffalo.

Speaker 7 (33:22):
So if they feel that.

Speaker 10 (33:23):
He can do that, then you pay him that type
of money, kind of like what Jacksonville is saying with
Trevor Lawrence, paying him like forward thinking that he's going
to deliver conference championship, he's going to deliver Super Bowl.
So if you see that for Tua and you're paying
his money, market says that.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
I got to get to wide receivers and I'm not
calling you one, but the word diva gets thrown around.

Speaker 7 (33:44):
A lot got a little you know that a little
bit in me.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
You know you said you held out over money. But listen,
this Brandon Ayuk situation is different because you didn't have
social media to go to. Brandon Ayuk is now on
like TikTok saying they don't want me, they don't want
to pay me any He's going on in Instagram and
his family members and it's just a little too much
noise and it feeds into the Oh another diva receiver
on the heels of Stefan Diggs, Odell Beckham, where are

(34:10):
you with the tag diva?

Speaker 7 (34:12):
I hated it.

Speaker 10 (34:13):
I hate it's It's been said for years. I mean
it doesn't bother me. Yes, I mean, I mean maybe
I've shown some flashes of deals, but I'm also I
can also play the position a tough guy.

Speaker 7 (34:24):
I can play the position as well.

Speaker 10 (34:27):
I think when you when you when you think about
Brandon Ayuk, He's earned the types of dollars that's he's
asking for.

Speaker 7 (34:32):
He's a very productive football player. He's reliable, he's consistent.

Speaker 10 (34:36):
He is every bit of what Deebo Samuels brings to
that football team. Lams obviously brings a physical mentality, but
the production is there from Brandon IYX, So I think
he deserves the money. I hate to see that he's
going to the social media and saying the things that
he that he's saying.

Speaker 7 (34:49):
Because I think it's kind of a dumbing.

Speaker 10 (34:51):
Down really, Like who's a He's a solid guy. Yes,
he's frustrated and he wants his money.

Speaker 7 (34:56):
Now.

Speaker 10 (34:56):
Having these social platforms is easy to get it, get
your phone down with just what you feel. But I
hate that he's going to that level with it. But
he deserves the money that he's asking for. He's very productive.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
You said your daughters are playing sports, and I just
wonder do you ever coach them about social media and
sports and like, hey, let's just be careful because I
feel like a lot of these athletes kind of grew
up with it and never got proper training and they're
making some mistakes. And so, I mean, you saw the
Chiefs guy gets drafted unworthy and he goes on a

(35:27):
video with his with his girlfriend and he's like peeling
off hundreds, Like what are you flexing for? It just
feels weird.

Speaker 10 (35:33):
Well, it's the likes and people. They want folks to
see what they're what they're doing in this trendy and
it's what it's what's happening on the social team. But yes,
I have conversations with my kids about social media. But
they're young adults. I mean they they now know how
to carry themselves. They know what's good and what's not
in terms of posting on social so I don't have
I don't have to go over the top with them.
I actually would like for my kids to post a
little bit more. And now my son does actually does

(35:55):
a really good job. He has his own TikTok page
Braided Hold that you can follow him on TikTok.

Speaker 7 (35:59):
He's really cool dope, does a lot of food reviews.

Speaker 10 (36:02):
But my daughters, I try to get them to post
a little bit more because they have so much to offer, talented, young, smart,
athletic girls.

Speaker 7 (36:10):
I think the world should see that.

Speaker 10 (36:12):
But I don't have to beat them down in terms
of being right on social media.

Speaker 7 (36:16):
They know how to handle themselves.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Yeah, we could wrap up. Bill Belichick is gone, he's out,
and Gerardo is the new Patriots coach. Following a legend
is very difficult, you know, Don Shula, Joe gibbs on
down the list. It's tough Patriots have the lowest win
total in the league at four and a half. I
don't know if you know Mayo personally, but it feels
like a massive uphill climb for them. Where are you

(36:39):
on the Patriots And like they had a two decade
dominance with Brady and Belichick, and it feels like they
had a good run.

Speaker 10 (36:45):
Yeah they did, but they you know, they got a
defensive mind, the coach, The defense is solid. Obviously, they
got to make some things work on the offensive side
of the football field to balance up the Patriot to
give them an opportunity to win consistently. But I do
like to hire. I had an opportunity my last year
National Football League. I was in New England for a
short stint and Jered Mayo was the middle linebacker and
just to see him echo and bark out the calls

(37:06):
and get guys lined up and make sure that the
defense was operating at a high level in practice on
a day to day basis.

Speaker 7 (37:12):
You saw that from him. He was a leader, So I.

Speaker 10 (37:14):
Think that those things would transfer over to his football players.
He obviously knows how to identify and talk and converse
with him, but I think he's a Patriot through and through.

Speaker 7 (37:25):
So you have that spooling out of him. But you
also have a.

Speaker 10 (37:27):
Guy that wants to coach in the National Football League,
believes that he can coach in the National Football League,
understands that he's following Bill, but this is his time now,
so it gets an opportunity to kind of blaze his trail.
But I think they got a good hire in Gerardmee.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
It's funny you say blaze his trail because he's trying
to do stuff Belichick like didn't do. He brought in
a rapper to throw past the two receivers. I read
a story that they had a Belichick refused to let
him have a ping pong table or whatever. Now they
brought in a ping pong table, like loosen it up.
But here's the thing. All that stuff worked for the
Patriots with Belichick and bring so why would you totally

(38:01):
go counter to it?

Speaker 10 (38:02):
Well, Brady's I mean in Belichick's time frame of coaching,
different mindset of guys, different way of doing things in
the National Football League is do it my way or
the highway. Now, with this young group of talent that's
now coming into the National Football League, you got to
get down. You got to be able to converse and
be able to communicate on their level to get the
best out of them. And I think you're seeing Jared
Mayo bringing rappers now out onto the field.

Speaker 7 (38:23):
Music is playing.

Speaker 10 (38:23):
I'm sure they have a ping poll and making in
an environment for them that's conducive to give them the
opportunity and the trust and the confidence to go out
and elevate their skills on the day of they base
day to day basis which he hopes to get a
carry over to the field.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
I've lobbied for a ping pong table here, No, no luck,
I got a we do I know? Seriously, are the
Chiefs gonna three peat? Just as simple? Yes or no?

Speaker 10 (38:45):
I say yes, but now until until they dethrone, I
say yes for now. And he has dealt with a
lot of every single year there's some type of off
the field controversy that he's dealing with.

Speaker 7 (38:54):
But they continue to write the ship.

Speaker 10 (38:55):
They got the number one guysh Patrick mahomes.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
God, I'm so over the Chiefs. We need some new
blood in their tory. Whole great stuff
