one hour. He is always money, So Jmack Davante Adams
(00:51):
yesterday is what we went to show with Davante Adams.
Potentially the Jets. The Cowboys are pulled out, Buffalo and
Kansas City are interested. I my gut feeling is it's
gonna be the Jets, and it could be very soon,
and I got my reasons for it.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Just know, historically, whenever.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
The media says this guy's going this place.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
I know never happens.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Media is always wrong.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
All right, Well, the media is not always wrong. Often
some have said fake news. I don't believe that to
be true. But here's why I think it's gonna happen
with the Jets. This is this is my theory on
this the Jets. Okay, so let's start with Robert sol
Robert Salla spent yesterday saying there's no issue with Cadence.
The Cadence thing is no big deal. So Robert Sla
(01:35):
now made a mistake at the podium twice in the offseason,
once in June, once in the preseason, and now where
he's becoming a football arsonist. He starts a fire. We
see smoke, you know, we see the matchbox, and all
of a sudden we're wondering to ourselves as well, who
started this thing? Okay, So the bottom line with the
(01:56):
Jets is Robert Sahl has got to figure out he's
got to figure out how to get the pressure off
him in New York. Okay, so remember what he said
in the preseason. He said Aaron Rodgers had an unexcused absence.
He said those words, what do you expect the New
York media to do? How do you expect them to
react to it, and then he said in the preseason,
(02:18):
Aaron will not play in the preseason. Aaron came out
same day and said, that's news to me. What do
you expect the New York media to do with it?
And then this Sunday he starts talking about Tayden's.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
We got to figure it out whether or not we're
good enough to handle all them or ready to handle
all the kittens. Kitten's had not been an issue all camp.
Felt like our operation had been operating pretty good. Obviously,
today it took a major step back.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
And then people went and asked Aaron Rodgers about it.
June August. Now Roberts all his learning on the job,
and he keeps making these mistakes with an impulsive owner,
the New York media, and Aaron Rodgers, who's prickly to
begin with, he is learning on the job. If he
was in Jacksonville, if he was in Carolina, if he
(03:11):
would have inherited a low maintenance quarterback like say Kirk Cousins,
this would be much easier. By the way, it's okay
to learn the job. A lot of these coordinators, Zach
Taylor before Joe Burrell learning on the job. Even Sean McVeigh.
Great first year, learning on the job. We're all learning
on the job when you get a new gig. I'm
not denying that. But my feeling is Devonte Adams is
(03:34):
down to the Saints and the Jets, and the Jets
have to make a push and Robert Sala has to
make a push for the Vonte Adams. And here's why
the pressure is now on Sola. And I think they
could get embarrassed in London. But if you signed the
Vonte Adams, where does the attention of the fans, the owner,
(03:57):
and the media go. The pressure all go to Aaron Rodgers,
because then Aaron Rodgers, you're gonna say, Aaron, you got
Mike Williams, Alan Lazard, you're buddy, Nat Hackett, a star
running back, Davante Adams, Garrett Wilson, Aaron, come on, that
(04:17):
is elite. Sala has got to get the pressure off him.
And by the way, you know, Aaron's gonna pound the
table for Davonte Adams. To Woody Johnson, Sala's gotta pound
the table for Woody Johnson. So here's Robert Sala, who
has started three fires. He just doesn't get the He's
(04:38):
a nice guy, he's a personal guy. I think he's
a smart guy. But there's the unexcused absence. Aaron's not
playing in the preseason, mentioning Cadence, and they've all started
these little fires. We in the media see the smoke.
You're holding the matches and you're wondering why we're asking
about it. He's got to get the pressure off him,
(04:59):
and I'm told, I'm told the Saints it's not Dallas,
Buffalo Casey are interested. It's the Saints and it's the Jets. Now,
the Saints have the advantage of hey weaker division. We
have got an offensive coordinator Kubiak, Clint Kubiak. This guy
is brilliant, you know, Derek Carr, but Aaron's the better quarterback.
(05:21):
So I think you have to pound the table. If
you're the Jets for this, you have got to make
it happen because it takes the pressure and it puts
it on where the pressure should be. If you're gonna
be the savior Aaron Rodgers, then the pressure should be
on Aaron Rodgers. But right now it's not. It's not
on him. It's not really. It's like, well, we've got
Garrett Wilson, He's got one guy, you would give him
(05:41):
a second star receiver, a star back Tyron Smith, left
tackle Alan Lazard, Nat Hackett, Aaron brought those in Mike Williams.
Suddenly you'd have now an elite group of skilled people.
So when you get the coach Sala and the star
quarterback bothinging the table to an impulsive owner, I think
(06:03):
it's going to happen. And I think it's the Saints
and the Jets are what we're hearing. Okay, So when
we drive into the Fox lot here in Los Angeles,
a lot of traffic goes by the Fox lots. In
a very nice place in Los Angeles, there's a billboard
of Fox Sports and it's got three baseball players on it.
It's got Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, and Shoho Tani. And
(06:27):
there's a lot of great baseball players out there. Right now,
I'm watching the Podreys last night in the Braves. There's
a lot of great baseball players. Jackson Curio, the kid
from Milwaukee, two homers last night, twenty year old Venezuelan
and the kids unbelievable outfielder. I think brother also plays
in the big leagues. The kid's unbelievable. He hits for power,
he can run, he hits for average to homers last night.
(06:49):
A kid's unbelievable. He's twenty. He is not selling tickets
or moving TV ratings. He's a local baseball star. And
that's ninety nine percent of the great baseball players in baseball.
There's three guys that are gonna move a TV rating,
Aaron Judge show, Heyo Tani and Bryce Harper. And what's
(07:12):
remarkable is this is the first time in seven years
Otani's made the playoffs. And this is a huge problem
with Major League Baseball. Can you imagine waiting seven years
for Patrick Mahomes to make the playoffs or seven years
for Lebron James to make the playoffs. But in baseball,
some of the greatest players Mike Trout end up on
(07:33):
bad teams and are virtually invisible. They may get a
Subway commercial, that's it. You never see him in the postseason.
So it's always been a problem in baseball is that
your best players can end up on bad teams and show,
Heyotani ends up on a wonky organization. So this is
a huge moment. Your babe Ruth is making his first
(07:55):
playoff appearance. I mean even Aaron Judge with a cash
heavy Yankee never been to a World Series. Bryce Harper
has and it's why he is one of the stars
sixteen years old. Sports Illustrated put him on the cover,
the chosen One. So baseball has an incredible opportunity here,
three stars, and I would say today, I'm not sure
(08:16):
if the Dodgers can get past the Padres. I am
not sure, but Dodgers, Yankees and Phillies feel like the
favorites and baseball's losing some social currency here. We've got
to be honest about this. Shows like mine and others,
baseball's become an incredibly local sport. They have three national
(08:38):
players and they're all potentially, all potentially you know what
this feels like to me? This feels like Hollywood before
Barbie and Oppenheimer and literally people went back to the theater.
It's like the Avengers, except those guys were on the
same team. These guys are on three different teams. Let's
(08:59):
not get into fact checking like the debate. But the
point is this is an unbelievable opportunity and the babe
ruth of this sport is finally gonna be in the postseason.
And here's his manager, Dave Roberts.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
It's easy to like him, let easier root for him,
a fund to watch him. It's been amazing on the
road just seeing how many people come to just watch
him play, and when he takes his last at bad
people tend to leave the ballpark. But I think it
is a credit to you know, if people just like
to watch greatness.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Yes they do, and I'll tell you I'm not. I
don't you know, Baseball is a long regular season and
I'm not going to pay a lot of attention to it.
And I'm not really into the wild card series. Although
this is the best San Diego Padre team ever Podres
Dodgers is going to be incredible. If the Mets, I'm
not supposed to root right, Mets Phillies incredible. There is
(09:53):
an opportunity here. We're gonna have two weeks of the
best National League Baseball ratings, attention and just baseball we
have had for years. Nothing against Brewers, Phillies, nothing against Brewers, Mets.
Brewers are good. It didn't captivate the nation that Dodger
(10:14):
San Diego thing their recent history. Mets, Phillies and Otani's
finally in the playoffs, potentially huge. You know, we were,
we were, we were. We have Greg Cosell in forty
five minutes from now. We were talking about this this morning,
j Mac. Of the many things on the Devonte Adams
(10:37):
so Saints Jets is kind of percolating a lot, and
both feel like they have a need. I think the
Jets have to pound the table for him. The fascinating
team with the Vonte Adams is Buffalo, because are you
playing keep away from Kansas City? So reportedly Kansas City
Buffalo both interested. So you already kind of gave the
(10:59):
Chiefs the xavier word in the draft, and he's been
a flash player, but there's some spectacular there. If you
don't make a bid on this, are you bidding on
Devonte Adams, You're okay if he goes to the Jets,
they're dysfunctional or the Chargers NFC. But if you're Buffalo,
and there is a story now that Kansas City wants
Davante Adams. But your question is, we just got out
(11:20):
of the Stefan Diggs drama. Do we want to get
back into the high profile wide receiver who can be
very verbal and expressive drama. Buffalo's in a weird spot.
It almost feels like, all right, they have Xavier Worthy casas,
do you make the move to block Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
I don't think that's the worst move in the world.
And I will point out Buffalo when they trailed against
Baltimore had no way to really get back in that
game because they're not an explosive offense right down the field,
No gave Davis. That's right, DeVante Adams stretches the field
for them. I will just say I didn't mean to
bash the media at the outset, but usually what happens
in these negotiations is you hear teams instantly, and that
can sometimes be misdirection to get everybody no questions. Jets
(12:01):
and Saints will quietly over here the forty nine ers
are saying, Hey, we don't We're done with Brandon d Ayuk.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
We signed him, he's your long term guy.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
How about Brandon Ayuk and.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
We rent Devon. You've said You've said this before. There
is I think I think the difference is Robert sala
Is facing Sam Darnold, the owner the former UK Ambassadors,
gonna have all his billionaire friends in the box, and
the hottest team in the league is Minnesota. If you
get smoked that flight back, you're sitting next to the
(12:33):
owner and it's going to be really uncomfortable. If you
bring in Davante and you lose to the Vikings. It's hey, like,
we got to get this thing up to speed. But
what would happen in New York and the attention matters?
This is an relevant star franchise. All the attention and
pressure would go to Aaron Rodgers. Now if you're getting starback,
two star receivers, you got two tackles you brought in
(12:54):
for big money. This is now an Aaron pressure team
because right now it's all on Sala. How do you
shift that to Aaron? Because you know Aaron wants Davonte
because he wants it for his legacy.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Let me ask you, do the Raiders owe Davante Adams anything?
Do they have DeVante says I want to play with
Carr or Rogers.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Do the Raiders say sure?
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Or do they say I'm sorry, We're just taking the best.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Deal we can to just get that's the Chiefs. That's
the Chiefs, of course, that's okay, just making sure absolutely yeah,
that's nothing against I love Devonte Adams, but I mean
teams are going to do what's best for the organization.
And remember Davante's probably slightly past his prime. He's older
and expensive, so that you're not getting a first round pick.
(13:35):
I think, by the way, Buffalo has two second round
picks in this draft. If you could get one second
round pick and maybe you know a rotational player, that
may be good enough. If I'm losing Devonte Adams, Can
I have your number three receiver and a second round
pick or your number four receiver, a rotational guy. Can
I have a backup tight end something? But the Bills
(13:57):
have two second round picks. I would use one if
I heard Kansas City was about to sign him. That's
where if I was Buffalo, I just give up one.
You do not want Mahomes because here's the whole thing.
You're monitoring the Rashi Rice situation. If Rashi Rice is
out for the year and we don't know yet, Kansas
City is suddenly vulnerable. Kansas City with Mahomes and Reed
(14:20):
are not going to be vulnerable very often over the
next five years. And now you have a team that
is vulnerable worthy, you'll be better next year. He's still
a rookie learning the trade, right, So it's like these
moments when New England was vulnerable or I mean literally
Lebron's team is vulnerable. You don't get these moments very often.
(14:40):
And if Rashi Rice is out.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Could that be why we don't know Raci Rice's situation yet,
we don't.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Know how long he's gonna be out.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Usually we know in footy at.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Aumals that injury is at twenty four hour.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
We know is Kansas City keeping this quiet so they
can they maintain a little bit of leverage as opposed
to we're desperate, we'll overpay for Adams because we don't
have a number one the Stevona Adam things.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
There's a lot of players here. Usually with star wide receivers,
there's one or two hot teams. But you get to
a point now you've got a desperate coach in New York.
They'll never say that, but you get boxed by Minnesota.
They're in Big Trump.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
But Pittsburgh Tumlin. Do they decide, Hey, we got to
shot here. AFC's wide open, why not us healthy defense?
Justin Field's playing out of.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
His winner in Niggins, the winner is the Raiders. Yeah,
more teams, the more the Raiders get. Yeah, they need
picks because they may have to cobble many together to
get the number one pick. It's a good point if
they if their scouts say, listen, there's two quarterbacks we like,
and they have the third pick. They may have to
get to the second pick and they'll need another number
(15:41):
one or two or three. Yeah, it's a fun game.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Definitely be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays in newon Eastern AM, Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one, and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
So it may not look like a big matchup, but
it's Baker Mayfield Kirk Cousins tonight. And we've always talked
about their six say six or seven great quarterbacks in
the NFL, and then there's the bottom of the NFL,
and then there's sort of the middle class of the NFL. Like,
they're good guys. They're not as dynamic, they're not megastars.
They don't run like Lamar, they don't throw like Mahomes,
but they're good. But this season, like none I ever remember,
(16:15):
the NFL middle class, they've restored the NFL middle class. Geno,
Sam Darnald, Baker Mayfield, and Andy Dalton are crushing it.
To give you a sense, Donald leads the NFL in
passing touchdowns and passer rating. Baker leads it second in
passing touchdowns and a seventy one percent completion percentage. Geno
Smith is thrown for the most yards, and Andy Dalton
(16:38):
through two games has as many touchdown passes as Aaron
Rodgers does for the season. So, simply put, they're very,
very good at their craft and they're not nearly as expensive.
So go look at the receiving corps for Sam Darnald,
Geno Smith, and Baker Mayfield, and then go look at
the receiving corps for like Josh Allen or you know,
(17:02):
a Dak Prescott or if Rashey Rice is hurt, yikes,
Patrick Mahomes. So I don't know if these guys hoist trophies,
but you win ten to eleven games, everybody in the
building keeps their job. You're not getting fired if you
make the playoffs and lose with Baker Mayfield or Geno
Smith or Sam Darnold or Andy Dalton, although I think
(17:24):
that's a long shot, but he's played great, so it's
and I think what you're watching here is the reality
of this league is you have to make decisions, and
that's why guys like me push back on a TUA contract.
If you're gonna pay the big money, which is gonna
limit what you can pay a backup quarterback, an offensive line,
(17:44):
a second corner like Miami. This thing goes sideways really
fast if the quarterback gets hurt. It's why I push
back on Dak Prescott. He's not Lamar mahomes Alan or Burrow,
so his contract does matter. It limits what they can
do offensive. So my point is the best place to
be in the NFL is to have a superstar quarterback,
(18:06):
a superstar that we don't argue over. There's an argument,
and I think it's pretty clear. The second best place
to be isn't having Dak. I mean, I just watched
brock perty in an NFC championship. The second best place
to be is having a Dulton, a Baker, a Gino,
and a Darnold not making much but stacking your roster
(18:28):
and then drafting a quarterback and letting him sit. There's
only six guys in the world that do this at
the next level, and even guys we like Jalen Hurts
and Trevor Lawrence suddenly we're not hot on. So you
can go back and forth and argue, you don't want
to settle at quarterback, but look at what is happening
to the middle class. Jmack. The blue collar quarterbacks are
(18:50):
making football great again. Mifka. They are making it great again.
And tonight you're gonna see Baker and Kirk Cousins right
now are kind of the middle class guys. They make
good money. They don't make Stupennis money. But look at
the weapons both of them have. Look at Donald's weapons.
If you watched the Seahawks get thirty eight first downs
(19:10):
on the road, They're stacked at running back, tight end,
wide receiver. So it's if you can't have one of
the six great ones, that's what you want. Veterans be
guys coachable and great, great at their craft. Baker Mayfield
talking about the matchup with Kirk tonight.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
It's a great opportunity for us continue to build what
we've had so far. But you know, I think back
at last year. Every year is different, but think back
at last year. We were three and one at this
point too. Now, I wouldn't say that we operated as
claim and we knew our identity, but right now, don't
take anything for granted just because you start three to one.
Like you said, it's the long year. Got to continue
to improve and just build as the ear goes on.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Donald Baker Gino, I'm sorry, but look at the current
NFL stats with quarterbacks passing yards, passer rating, touchdowns yards,
it's the guys with stack rosters who aren't quite as dynamic.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Have a lot of moving parts here as we speak
Jordan Schultz, Fox Sports NFL Insider, there's a lot of
things going on. He's on Speak today, So let's address.
First of all, there's a lot of teams out there.
I kind of feel like Jet Saints, DeVante Adams, Derek Aaron.
What are the best landing spots? This is very fluid
because Jordan, as you know, leverage matters. Yes, the Raiders
(20:35):
don't have to win now, Dennis Allen does and Robert
Solid does, so they could be pounding the table here.
What's the latest on Devonte?
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Well, let's get to those teams.
Speaker 8 (20:44):
But also when we start with maybe the teams that
have been rumored, but I would say are more sleepers.
Let's start with Buffalo. I think if you look at
the Bills in theory, that's a great fit, right because
they don't really have a number one receiver. They have
Dalton Kink, they have Khalil Shakira, they have some good
young receivers key On Coleman. But I think Buffalo, like
a Kansas City, would.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Have to wait. The longer the wait, the less money
you have to pay him.
Speaker 8 (21:09):
Now, you know, Kansas City, for example, obviously will be
in the wide receiver market, I think. But it would
surprise me not only for the inter division trade, but
it would surprise me if the Chiefs were able to
take on that cap. But if you're able to wait,
then the Raiders, to your point callin about leverage, lose
some leverage, right, because then all of a sudden are out,
teams are yes, and now all of a sudden, okay,
(21:30):
maybe I have to trade this guy.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
He's not happy. And let's just say.
Speaker 8 (21:34):
Hypothetically, if you're a really good team, maybe you're a Baltimore,
a team that I think could absolutely be in on
Devonte Adams. Your first round pick, if you're gonna get feisty,
is probably going to be in the high twenties early thirties.
That first rounder is not necessarily the most valuable one.
I think Baltimore to that point. We saw in the
playoffs against the Chiefs Colin they got away from their
(21:55):
game script. They stopped running the football. Then they couldn't
throw the football. They need to meet another wide receiver
opposite Jay Flowers. They have some really good talent there.
You mentioned Dereck Henry. Obviously, we like Isaiah Likely. Mark
Andrews is an All Pro when he's getting older. Now
you get DeVonta Adams. Now you have a guy who
can legitimately take over a takeover a game. The Detroit
Lions they have twenty eight million dollars in cab space. Wow,
(22:19):
do they need DeVonta Adams?
Speaker 1 (22:21):
No?
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Could they use him? Yes?
Speaker 8 (22:23):
You know Sam laporta great young tight end. Jamison Williams
can absolutely fly. We just saw monro Saint Brown get
All Pro.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
But donot guys get Williams. Gets banged up.
Speaker 8 (22:31):
Williams and he's more of a perimeter guy. Amadra's a
slot guy. Now, all of a sudden, you add Devontae
Adams to Jared Goff, who's one of the most accurate
quarterbacks in the league. That becomes that much more of
a dynamic offense. I think there are a lot of
question marks about the Jets and Saints right because he
wants to be with his with a quarterback he's played
(22:52):
with Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers. The Saints do not have
the financial flexibility to get this done. It would be
almost to me in possible for the Saints to get
out and make a deal. But just because of the money,
we know this team constantly pushes deals down the road.
That to me tells me right now they would love
to get him, but because of the way their contract
(23:13):
and their cap is set up, it's going to be
very unrealistic. The Jets, to me, make the most sense
for a lot of reasons. Yeah, this is an offense
that is struggling right now. You mean Garrett Wilson, one
of the best young receivers in the league nine point
three yards per catch. This offense calling four yards per play,
it's one of the worst clips in the league.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
With Aaron Rodgers Garrett Wilson in the hall, it doesn't.
Speaker 8 (23:34):
Make any sense why because they their creativity right now
is not there. Garrett Wilson, I was just talking about
j Mack. He's been criticizing publicly publicly. He didn't say
Nathaniel Hackett, but he said, we need to be more creative.
What happens if you get DeVante Adams, Well, now you
can be more creative. I look at the Jets and
I say, this front office has so much pressure on it.
(23:55):
Not only would Joe Douglas, but the head coach and
Robert Sala. If we can go out and get a
Devontae Adams, that frees up a lot for us.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
But also, we don't You don't necessarily care about a
future second round pick. What do we care if we
don't win this year?
Speaker 8 (24:09):
We're gone anyway, So let's go ahead and empty the
tank and get a Davonte Adams. But to me, this
is a fluid situation and I don't necessarily know if
anything's imminent, But I also think it's important to know.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
And I'll leave you with this.
Speaker 8 (24:21):
It's important to note that Deavonte Adams does not have
a no trade clause. He cannot engineer this the way
that maybe a Brandon Ayuke could. With San Francisco, we
heard Washington, we heard Pittsburgh. Those are teams by the
way that could be interested as well. I think the
Commanders and Steelers make a lot of sense, but DeVonta
Adams cannot orchestrate this the way that he wants. I
think the Raiders will try to get him to a
(24:43):
place he would like to go, but they don't have
to say to be victim to his demands. And I'll
leave you with Washington and Pittsburgh. The Steelers were in
on Brandon Ayuk. The Commanders were in on Brandon Ayuk.
Those are two teams, specifically Washington that I look at
and say, this is a long term play, the Jets
of the short term play. Yeah, one or two years
(25:04):
with Aaron Rodgers's four years old. Jaden Daniels is the truth.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
He is the future. We've seen how talented he is.
Speaker 8 (25:11):
They have a really good wide receiver and Terry McLaurin,
as does Pittsburgh, which are pickings. Add Devonte Adams and
suddenly those offenses, especially Washington, become that much more dynamic.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Okay, so June preseason and the Cadence comments recently three
different times sala is learning how to be head coach.
It's harder with an impulsive owner. Aaron Rodgers Zach Wilson,
New York, and not that he's stumbled, but he said
things started fires New York. Media responder questions him and
(25:44):
then he's got to put him out, So he's kind
of learning on the job. But my take is Aaron
seems almost annoyed having to answer that you're not playing
in the preseason unexcused absence. Cadence has three different instances
where Aaron's come up kind of in that eye roll.
Annoy to Aaron and Sala, What is the relationship do
(26:05):
they have one?
Speaker 8 (26:06):
Aaron's safety valve, his comfort zone. His relationship is Nathaniel Hackett.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
That's his guy, good for better or worse.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
I think his relationship with Sala is fine, it's tenable,
but his comfort zone is Nathaniel Hackett. Now, Aaron has
the power, as he should, but when I hear some
of the things that Sala is saying, I questioned whether
or not he understands what he has. Aaron Rodgers is
the greatest free play quarterback in the history of football.
(26:33):
KT touchdown game, that's his game. Now, sometimes you're gonna
have false starts. They had three false starts last week
against Denver. They only had one the first three weeks,
so there are gonna be mistakes. They're trying to incorporate
ol the Fushanhu, a young offensive lineman. This is an
offensive line in general that is still meshing.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
But this is Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 8 (26:52):
Part of what makes him great, In fact, a lot
of what makes him great is the freedom at the
line of scrimmage to adjust eighteen free play touch sounds
is again the most Ever, that's what happens with Lazard,
It's what should happen with Garrett Wilson, and make no mistake,
it's what would happen with Devontae Adams.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Okay, you came out and reported earlier this week that Jacksonville,
which there's there's a lot of speculation from Belichick, yeah,
to making a move. Now, you reported that Doug Peterson,
the head coach, had lost the locker room. Doug responded
to that here it is, no, I have not lost
the locker room.
Speaker 9 (27:24):
You know, obviously, you're gonna you're gonna go through some setbacks,
you know, in this league, and and there's gonna be
some some times where you know you're gonna you're gonna
you're gonna come out some hard times. I mean that's
just that's just part of this game. I've been there before,
done that before, and we've always you know, battled back.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
Well, he was fired in Philadelphia and these are beyond
hard times. Uh, they can't win games. So is is
you tell me? Is he in trouble? Could there be
a potential? It's a rich owner, right, this is a
very wealthy owner. In season coaching change.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
It's also a patient owner.
Speaker 8 (27:57):
Shod Con The only time he's really pulled the plug
was Irvin Meyer and that was a completely untenable situation.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
So I don't know if they would do it in season.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
But to your point, if they lose this week, that'll
be ten straight losses with with Trevor Lawrence at the Helm,
ten straight. This is a team that has paid everybody.
They paid Armstead, they paid Campbell, they paid heinz Allen,
and they obviously paid Lawrence. They have a pretty good roster.
They probably should be two and two instead of oh
to four. They're going to London. That's their home away
(28:27):
from home. Sean Conn loves it there. They played two
games in London. Imagine if they're zero to five going
across the pond. At some point you have to wonder
how much longer Doug Peterson's going to be able to
hold on now. I don't know if he wouldn't say
he's on the hot seat right now.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
But to my point.
Speaker 8 (28:41):
Earlier about the locker room, you know, I've talked to
players over the last couple of weeks, not since, not
just the Texans game, that have told me this locker
room doesn't really believe in.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
The head coach anymore.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
Now.
Speaker 8 (28:51):
I don't have any ill will towards Doug Peterson. It's
not like he forgot how to coach. He's won a
Super Bowl. But what I can tell you is that
when you come out and start blaming play the way
that he did after the loss to the Texans where
they really blew that game, that's not the way to
coach in today's day and age.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
You just don't do it. It's not how guys respond.
Speaker 8 (29:10):
And I think to a degree, you take a thirty
thousand foot view and you wonder how much more losing
they can take.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Well, Dave Wanstatt has said this for years. You can
lose games, you can't lose the locker room. And when
Wanstatt was in Miami in Chicago, and I mean they
were winning games. Go look at his record. He said,
you lose three in a row in this league. If
you don't have a you know, if you don't have
a big resume, right like, you lose players because everybody's
(29:42):
hurt by week four, nobody's in a great mood. Winning
solves a lot like this is a very I mean,
go to an NBA season, maybe a guy's banged up.
Everybody in your locker room is banged up week four.
Winning solves a lot of issues. They're not winning with
Trevor without him.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
You've asked me before, what's the biggest difference between covering
the NBA and the NFL, Because I used to hoops.
One of the biggest differences. The NBA locker room is
twelve guys. NFL locker room is fifty three dudes. So
you got a lot of different egos in that person personalities.
You need the respect of the locker room. That doesn't
mean everyone has to like you, doesn't mean everyone has
to like each other. But when you start turning on
(30:22):
your players as the head coach publicly, I recognize that
as the beginning of the end.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
And I just don't know how much longer.
Speaker 8 (30:29):
You know, He's gonna be able to withstand it, and
eventually he is going to be the scapegoat if they don't.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Turn it around.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Can the Phillies Phillies Phillies' be? How good is that?
Speaker 3 (30:38):
I like that? I do like that series Metts Phillies.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Right around your I love it is the Eagles season.
I thought the first quarter, the first past Tampa against
Tampa was the awful. I don't think I remember a
team that talented looking that unprepared. Is the season salvagable?
Speaker 8 (30:59):
So I think it is, But there's a lot that
has to be changed. First of all, when you don't
have Davonte Smith, you don't have AJ Brown, You're gonna
have issues. Clear Tampa's really tough at home. They have
a really aggressive defensive. I mean they were dialing up
blitzes on third and twenty. That's him, That's what he does,
and they couldn't protect. I do think Jalen Hurts needs
to be more decisive, But I think what really makes
(31:21):
the Eagles great is the connection that he has with
AJ Brown and DeVante Smith. Specifically Brown, his numbers are
catastrophically different when he.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Has a J Brown.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
The lineup, you guys, shows Christian McCaffrey is a different
position one hundred literally a different team. With a Brown,
they are one of the most efficient offenses practiced.
Speaker 8 (31:40):
He's gonna play, He's hopefully gonna play this week. Davontae
Smith should play. That's going to change a lot. They're
two and two, you know the New Orleans game they
got bailed out. They two and two is about right
where they're at right now. But they're eighteenth. That's the
Creek key staff for me. They're eighteenth in pre snap motion.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Now.
Speaker 8 (31:56):
That's Kellen Moore, who obviously was with the Chargers, was
with the Cowboys, and I was talking to a GM
about how do you go up against the Eagles, like,
how do you defend them? And he said, right now,
they're a little bit predictable. And I said, so, is
that because of AJ Brown and DeVante Smith being out?
He said, to a degree, But really it's the pre
snat motion. Kellen Moore is a really good offensive coordinator.
(32:17):
I think once he gets all his his arsenal in
full effect. The way that Saquan's running the ball right now,
he's the offensive player of the year, certainly the best
running back in football. They're going to be able to
salvage it. The bigger question to me, though, is Nick Sirianni,
Because if you're looking at the Eagles and you're saying,
what's the big issue with them?
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Nick Sirianni's probably the face of it. Yes, Okay, So.
Speaker 8 (32:39):
When things are going really well, you love Nick Sirianni.
I want to get behind that guy.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
He's fun to play for.
Speaker 8 (32:44):
When they're not going well, you're saying, well, is this
guy playing Madden? He's not taking field goals. He consistently
goes forward on fourth and four, fourth and five. The
math consistently tells you take the three. He has a
good kicker and Jake Elliott I want to see Nick
Sirianni take a step back and not pressure.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Has put so much pressure.
Speaker 8 (33:02):
On Jalen Hurts in that young offensive line to figure
it out because they do have a new center, the
second year guy Jurgens is gonna be a good player,
but without Jason Kelcey, it's not the same fourth and one,
fourth and two offense.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Okay, finally a Rashi Rice, So they're going to have
another test. Clearly, listen their defense Mahomes, Andy Reid. They're
gonna win a lot of games with or without Rashi
Rice worthy as obviously a new over the top toy.
They haven't had that in multiple years. They got a
second tight end Juju Smith Schuster, so they're gonna win games.
(33:33):
The Rashi Rice situation to us J Mac I Ryan,
we talked about this. What are they do? They know? So?
Speaker 8 (33:41):
So I think what's happened is that when you have
the type of swelling.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
That he has, it's usually a bad sign.
Speaker 8 (33:48):
It's a bad sign. But also you're not able to
get the proper imaging. You need to take time.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Okay, So, and I'm not a doctor.
Speaker 8 (33:56):
But and talk to a couple of doctors, talk to
some folks that have told me they need to let
the swelling die down, and when that happens, then you
can get the proper imaging. Now, usually when doctors tell
you something's bad, it's probably bad.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
So I don't think the chiefs are saying are I don't.
Speaker 8 (34:11):
Think it's realistically realistic to say the chiefs are gonna
have Rahi Rice back anytime soon. But they are doing
their due diligence to make sure. Next week, I think
it's gonna be on Monday, to make sure that the
knee is a torn acl If it's not, obviously, that's
an unbelievable surprise.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
At some point they will get the check go back.
We still don't know about Hollywood, right.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
But Checko's a little underrated.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
He is, and he can catch the football.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Yes, I think he's We've talked about this, we talked
brought perty seventh round, but Checko is one of the
best late round players drafted in five years.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
It sixth round, seventh round out of Rutgers.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
So he's been a tremendous asset for a team that's
trying to develop a receiving corps. He has been. He
is just a shockingly good late round player, and let's.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
Give credit to that.
Speaker 8 (34:55):
I don't know how much time we have, but I
want to let's give credit to the Chiefs front office.
I don't know if I've seen a team that has
won back to back Super Bowls and his four and
zero get more disrespect. Oh, the Chiefs can't do it now,
they're dead. Travis Kelsey's too old. Redfeach I think is.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
The best GM in the NFL.
Speaker 8 (35:13):
They drafted Patrick Mahomes, the best quarterback ever, arguably the
best tight end ever. First or second best coach of
all time, one of the great interior defensive linemen of
our generation.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
I mean, take out Aaron Donald, Chris Joe next. I
think he's next.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
He is next.
Speaker 8 (35:28):
He's that dominant and he's actually been better this year.
I look at the Chiefs. I don't know what's going
to happen with Rasheie Rice, but I look at the
Chiefs and I say they are going to be in
it when it matters. I picked them before the year,
as you know, to win three in a row. I
still think they're gonna win three in a row because
I believe.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Yes, we'll play at some point this year. I would
take them to win it all. So without him, I
just don't know if Worthy is a volume receiver who's
getting I mean Rashi was becoming ten target night number
one guy. Yeah, and it's now they can do it again.
They've done it without it. How many years in a
row can you cobble together a receiving cory be the
(36:06):
best team in the league. So I think Buffalo's better
this year.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
Buffalo's really good despite what happened.
Speaker 8 (36:12):
Again, my question with Balts Buffalo is how they gonna
come when they're down as he saw against Baltimore, can
Josh Allen. That's why the DeVante thing makes sense for them,
because Josh Allen won't necessarily feel like he has to
do it all as he did against Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Didn't work.
Speaker 8 (36:25):
But to your pointing against Kansas City a goodbae. Kansas City,
they cansk Pats Work are running back with p Ryan
and Carson Steel. They can figure out Kareem Hunt, but
they've lost Hollywood Brown, They've lost for Shi Rice, They've
lost Pacheco. I think in order of most realistic or
quickest to come back goes Pa Checko, hopefully Hollywood Brown.
And then we still don't really know about Recia Rice.
We'll find out early next week.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
You said, yeah, Monday, Jordan, great stuff. Thanks Tolen Schultz
doing great stuff. He is on Speak later today
