This is the Best of the Herd with Colin cowher
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Oh We're gonna have a good Monday. We are live,
We are in Los Angeles. It is the Herd wherever
you may be, however you may be listening. Thanks for
making us part of your day. One hour from now.
Colin Wraich, Colin Rong, Matt Hasselbeck, Dion Dawkins to the
Buffalo bill stops by off a wild wild game last night.
(00:49):
I'm gonna tell you something. That's the best Week one
in the NFL. Remember Week one of college football labor
a weekend. We're like, that's the best college football weekend
I've ever seen. That is the best week one. Not done?
You get the controversial enigmatic Bears against Minnesota mystery at quarterback.
What a weekend starting Thursday where the Cowboys took the
(01:10):
Eagles to the very end. But last night's a classic.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Unbelievable game.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Josh Allen obviously the MVP for a reason, best player
in the league.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, when the Ravens win a wild game, my take
is usually, oh, Lamar Jackson must have played well. When
the Bills win a wild game, might take his Oh, oh,
Josh Allen, they put the cape on him. Lamar Jackson's
part of a great roster, a super Bowl winning coach.
I never feel like the organization lets him down, and
he has sputtered in big playoff spots. Josh Allen's passer
(01:41):
rating is better in the playoffs than the regular season,
and he was the MVP. He's always at his best
when the best is required. He doesn't need to prove
anything to anybody. His coach has often let him down.
He had more passing yards in the fourth quarter last
night than half the league had this weekend, sixteen unentered
points against a better roster in Baltimore, Montana, Brady and
(02:04):
Mahomes have more hardware and maybe OHA's will. I have
never seen, including Patrick Mahomes, a quarterback with this much velocity,
this much power. His again, his playoff passer rating higher
than his regular season. He is a gamer and not
the streaming kind. The other thing is I still this
(02:27):
morning don't like the way the Bills are overly reliant
on him. The Ravens were getting I mean, Dereck Henry
was running away from smaller secondary players for Buffalo. Buffalo's
got real issues on the back end. Remember Buffalo, Buffalo
(02:47):
had to come back under four minutes fifteen down. Like
Baltimore has a better roster they have in my opinion,
a better coach they have in my opinion. And this
is not a knock on Lamar, probably Steve Bushatti, many
in the league believe best organization, best owner. Ninety five
percent of that game last night, until the very end,
(03:09):
felt like if Baltimore's just got too much horsepower, they
got too many good players. The Bills have a and
I would be worried about this. They have a Lebron
Calves feel to them that he's got to score forty
two and have a triple double to beat the good teams.
I mean, even at the end of the first half,
he gets the ball thirty one seconds, two big throws,
no timeouts, and sets of a field goal. How many
(03:31):
people on the planet ever could do that It is
not a knock on Lamar Jackson, but the Ravens have
multiple routes to win big games. Dereck Henry last night
get he is running passed and over much smaller players
than safeties and corners. The Bills have one route to
win huge games. Josh Allen has to do that, and
(03:54):
I think last night was unquestionably his greatest performance. He's
got about twelve like this. I thought it was the
best one. That score was forty twenty five and under
four minutes left. I don't care that it was at home.
Baltimore is a stacked roster. There are three rosters in
this league. I tests look better Eagles, Ravens, and I
(04:15):
think Packers. And to pull that off late, I mean,
you've got Baltimore's got Kyle Hamilton. He's a Pro Bowl
safety covering all that ground in the back end. You
stack these rosters up. Baltimore is up there with Philly.
I feel like Buffalo is. Basically they just said, Josh,
take it over. End of the first half, end of
(04:37):
the game, take it over, and here he is after.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
It took everybody there. I'm just proud of our team
for staying in it. No one on the sideline blinked.
I mean, down fifteen points whatever we were with five
six minutes left, staying with it, fans leaving, you know,
the stadium. You know you gotta play this game for
sixty minutes. And that's that's a really good outfit that
(05:03):
we just played.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
I'm watching that game last night, and I honestly watching
Lamar Jackson and Dereck Henry in that offense, and then
Josh Allen on the other side. I'm like seventy five
percent in the teams, and I'm watching Mahomes and Justin
Herbert Friday and thinking the same thing. Yes, seventy five
percent of these teams in this league have got to
(05:27):
be looking at their quarterback situation and just thinking Buffalo Baltimore.
They're playing a different sport. I mean, Labar, there's never
been a player that plays it like Lamar. It is
video game. And then there's Josh Allen under four minutes,
down fifteen against a great roster, and you know, Dereck
(05:49):
Henry's fumble probably is is that lynchpin that gets you
the w but remarkable. Now I want to shift to
another game. I've been very critical, not really critical. I
just don't buy all the height. With brock Purty, I
think he's a B plus quarterback. I feel that with
Kirk Cousins, I feel that with Jack, and I think
you have to be very careful about paying a B
(06:10):
plus quarterback a plus money. And brock Purtty got a
good contract. It wasn't outrageous for him. It was a
very good contract. But I got to tell you yesterday,
Yes he had two picks. Yes he got a huge
break that Sam Darnold fumble bumped into his own player.
That's the most impressed I've ever been with brock Purty.
That game, Seattle's loud, George Kittle misses most of the game.
(06:37):
You're down several wide receivers. Your offensive line is mediocre.
Juwan Jennings is her Trent Williams is her right guard
is hurt. You've heard of the Blue Man group, the
Niners of the Blue Tent group. They can't keep anybody healthy.
Special teams, Jake Moody, close your eyes, cross your fingers.
That let the Niners down and pretty on the road
(07:00):
against Let's be honest here. That defense for Seattle is fast.
That is a well coached, well constructed, well drafted very
good Seahawks defense. It is sometimes you gotta trust your eyes.
They are flying around the field and he goes six
for six on the final drive, loudest stadium in the league.
(07:24):
They were nine to one before yesterday and those openers.
He has a great poise, made huge throws. And you
know why I'm impressed because he had two picks. I mean,
only scored seventeen points. Why would I be so impressed
Because the difference between the haves and have nots in
this league is when you don't have your star receiver,
(07:47):
when you're down your star tight end, when you're going
to be Hall of Fame, left tackle goes to the tenth,
when you're right guard is out that and you're on
the road. That's that if every quarterback look good with
excellent protection. I've said quarterback is like parenting. Everybody is
a great parent. When your kids are eating their vegetables
(08:08):
and getting a's it's really easy. That's babysitting. You know
what parenting is Your kid just got kicked out of school,
your daughter got a speeding ticket, she's imploding. That's parenting.
That yesterday in Seattle, last drive, that is what quarterback is. Okay,
That is what it is. Defensive coach, Seahawks are flying around,
(08:32):
Your offensive line is mid. You're missing one of your linemen.
Trent Williams already been in the tent. George Kittle's gone,
Juwan Jennings banged up. Seattle. Listen, Seattle's gonna win nine
ten eleven games, whether they make the playoffs or not.
That's a good football team. So it is it demanded.
He'd be great. And I don't care that his passer
rating was ninety two, and I don't care that he
(08:54):
threw two picks. That's worth the money. I'm telling you,
there's about eight nine quarterbacks in the league you could
win a football game with, and he was one of them.
And that doesn't mean I want to hear Old j
Matt going nutty on this. I may turn by next weekend.
That is quarterback playing the league. That's parenting. The house
(09:14):
is melting down, they won't eat their vegetables. They're arguing
with mom. That's parenting. Here is Kyle Shanahan on brock
Perty's performance.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Ah, it's huge. I mean there were some big plays
at the end. I mean we were back and forth
and just kept getting tighter and tighter and to make
that big play to Ricky to get the explosive to
get us down there. And that play he made on
fourth down was huge. I think the biggest one in
the drive was him going across the whole board on
a progression. I mean, just a tough deal to do
for a quarterback. And I don't know if you hit
I think it was Jake tongjis a low ball on
(09:46):
the other side that kept the drive going and played.
Speaker 7 (09:48):
Really well there.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
The other thing, did you notice, and this is something
about the NFL that's different than college. In college, you
let go of the ball when the receiver's open. He
made a throw. He made a couple of them in
this game. Pertty did the touchdown in the end zone
to the tight end because Kittle was banged up. When
he let go of that ball, there were three blue shirts,
two blue shit. There was nobody open. That is what
(10:12):
is called it anticipatory thrower. That's what Aaron Rodgers was
in his prime. Aaron Rodgers one of the first quarterbacks
doing the back shoulder thing. Nobody's open. Great quarterback play,
and this is what you have to do in the NFL.
And it's why a lot of college quarterbacks can't pivot
to the pros. You gotta let go of the ball
and it looks like it can't be caught. Go back
and look. Go to your YouTube page. Go back and
(10:35):
look at that that touchdown to the tight end. He's
not open. That's practice, that's in, that's trust, that's anticipating.
That is excellent quarterback play. Could have been his third
pick instead. Everybody loves Brock party this morning. So j
Mac a little pivot, slight pivot on Purdy.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
I gotta say I love that open Colin. I was
shocked that you said nice things about the two picks
were bad.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Let's admit they were.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
They were bad throws, right.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
That is a let me tell you something. That's a
tough environment.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Yes, And by the way, you didn't mention his kicker
was like terrified and Shanahan's losing his mind.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
He made a thirty two yard field goal in the
second half and it was noteworthy. It's like, hey, we
should note it. He hit it because he had had
a kick blocked. He had missed like a twenty eight
or a show. It was a short one.
Speaker 7 (11:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
They got to the red zone five times.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
And by the way, how about the forty nine ers
defense with Robert Sala bottling up Seattle. They think they
had two hundred and thirty yards of offense colin their
defense all of.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
A sudden, frisky coordinators do not get the love they deserve.
The Niners have worse personnel defensively than last year. Yeah,
and that was their best defensive performance in a long time.
Go ask the Lions if coordinators matter. I know it's
Monday and everybody overreacts on Monday. I'm going to overreact
(11:58):
on the Packers. That's fine, I think that's your what
was in reason? I'm going to overreact on the Packers.
I'm going to make a definitive statement. I am already
calling a division after week one. We'll talk about that next.
If you're a homeowner, it took years of sweat and
planning and saving and discipline to get in that door.
(12:19):
Now once it's yours, more hard work to make the
house a home. Now, all that effort has built something
hugely valuable. It's called equity. That's the part of the
home you actually own. The longer you own it, the
more equity you've built. And now the home you've worked
so hard for it's ready to work for you. Do
you want to take a loan out, a home equity
loan to pay for college, to pay to upgrade your kitchen?
(12:43):

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Here we go. It's our chill. The first hour flew by.
If you missed it, I said nice stuff about brock Purty,
So you know we were taking swings here in the
herd on a Monday. Matt Hasselbeck is around the corner.
Dion Dawkins Today, tonight's Bears Vikings. We're going to get
(14:20):
into that last hour. I like Minnesota tonight without further ado.
We do it every week at this time. Colin right,
Colin wrong.
Speaker 7 (14:29):
Where Colin was right, well.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
The Kansas City Chiefs regression is clear. I had said
last week I'd probably take the Chargers. The O line issues,
the run game, where is it? The wide receiver corps
was thin going into the game. They couldn't get out
of their own way. Literally, they're the only winless team
in their division. I thought Mahomes was amazing, but when
(14:51):
you watch the Ravens or the Packers or the Eagles roster,
it's thin. And I said, you can't keep winning every
one score game, even if you have Andy Reid and
Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert against Steve Spagnola did whatever
he wanted to with kind of a mad mid receiving corp.
Speaker 7 (15:11):
Where Colin was raw.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Listen, he's a statue at this point and got sacked
four times. But I thought Aaron Rodgers was really strong
in the opener. To his credit, he has said I
am here for leadership and distribution and elevating others. So
he knows what he is. Seven of nine in the
fourth quarter with a couple of touchdowns, and he took shots.
He took a shot Joe Burrow and him took shots
(15:34):
this weekend. Seven of nine, two touchdowns. And again I
don't love Pittsburgh's offensive line. They don't They don't run
the ball consistently. So I thought Aaron on the road
against Aaron Glenn's defense, I thought it was impressive where
Colin was right. I said it out for the Hall
of Fame game, Detroit does not look right. You can't
(15:56):
replace two elite coordinators within house guys and think I'll
just be the same. It's not the same two point
one yards per carry. They're rebuilding the interior line. Ben
Johnson was the sharpest coordinator in the game for a
couple of years. You can't just go, well, we got
a guy in house that can replace him. You can't
do that. Their passing game coordinator left to the Jets
(16:19):
and Justin Fields looked pretty good, so I think you
can take some things even in the preseason. The Lions
will not be as well coached a football team where
Colin was wronged. The Dallas Cowboys lost, but I thought
Brian Schottenheimer had them buttoned up. I thought they were
good situationally and the first half clock management. They had
(16:42):
very few penalties. I thought they played even keel football
with good emotion, not wild emotion. Dack terrific. They found
run lanes. They were a drop pass by Ceedee Lamb
from winning this football game in Philadelphia. The clock management
was strong, they didn't penalties. I had my issues with
Brian Schottenneimer. There's no way you could come out of
(17:05):
that game, whether you love the Cowboys or hate him,
and not be impressed.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
I was wrong where Colin was right.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Well, college football is bumpy for Bill Belichick. He won't
let the Patriots scout on scouts on the Carolina campus,
which doesn't make sense. You're only hurting the players. He
just keeps alienating himself from the NFL. Bill Bill's old school.
He's very provincial. It's about loyalty to Bill, and you
know if you're not loyal to me, You're a bad guy,
(17:34):
you're against us. That must be exhausting to have that personality.
But I said, coming into college, he's not a great
drafter of college kids. Why is he going to be
a great recruiter of high school kids? He watches even
less of that. So I was surprised they lost the
way they did. But I'm not surprised he's having struggles.
Where Colin was wrong, what a dune by New England.
(17:58):
Geno Smith was spinning it, Mike Frables offense and Josh McDaniels.
It was cautious, it was slow, it was deliberate. Now
I will say, with all the free agents and all
the rookies playing, they've got a whole new cast on
this roster. So they got so many new pieces and
starters don't play a lot in the preseason. I do
(18:19):
think this will be about as bad as they play.
But Drake may cautious, not a lot of juice. I
was surprised, how bad, how poor, how slow that looked.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
Where Colin was right.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Well, Miami Dolphins were cooked. I said two years ago,
Mike McDaniel's clever, he can be funny. I think he's
a great offensive mind. But as the leader of men now,
the Colts are better than people think. Colts have a
good roster, but you can't have that. You can't have
Daniel Jones going seven for seven on drives. That defense
(18:52):
did not come to play. After the game, there were
some concerning quotes from defensive players. Head coach is a CEO,
it's not just a play caller. I don't doubt Mike
McDaniel is a great play caller and will get a
great oc job. But I also don't love the roster.
When you watch those two teams play, Colts had way
(19:14):
more good players and it wasn't particularly.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
Close where Colin was right.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
I said, keep your eye on Tampa rookie receiver in
Mecca Abuka two touchdowns, great route runner, he has a
chance to be the rookie of the year. Every scout,
every executive in the league I talked to if I said,
who will surprise people in the first round. It was
the Ohio State receiver. He got overshadowed because Ohio State
(19:39):
is wide receiver university and they have so many amazing stars.
This kid, you are looking at a guy if he
stays healthy. I mean He's a pro route, running, hands, discipline,
personality in Mecca Buca, I mean, Baker Mayfield has himself
today as a rookie game one a star. Where Colin
(20:00):
was right, where Colin was wrong.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and Noon Easter not a Empacific Well.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
He engineered six playoff appearances with the Seahawks. Matt Hasselbeck
eighteen years is now joining us live.
Speaker 9 (20:18):
Yeah you could add my favorite part of this show
is where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
I love it.
Speaker 9 (20:23):
I love I love when you double down when you
were right, and I kind of like when you admit
when you were wrong.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
It's fun. I enjoy it.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Well, thank you, and I was wrong plenty. I'm gonna
get Let's just get to last night. And I said before,
when Baltimore wins, if I didn't see the game, I
would suspect Lamar played great. But when Buffalo wins a
wild game, I would suspect Josh Allen had to be otherworldly,
because I think the Ravens have a better roster and
more routes to win. I think they're so dependent on
(20:53):
Josh Allen. But as somebody who got a team to
a super Bowl. When you watch him doing what he does,
what how do you explain Josh Allen if I'd never
seen him play.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Awesome? I mean that game was incredible, Listen. I was
watching it last night.
Speaker 9 (21:09):
I'm like, I met, Wow, this is an impressive win
by Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
It's amazing.
Speaker 9 (21:14):
But then in the back of my head, I'm like,
this means that Josh Allen can just go cut it loose,
put a cape on, and just play Superman. And that's
really what he did. I mean, like it was just
it was absolutely incredible. And you know it's so boring
to say, like, oh, turnovers, third down, fourth down conversion,
but like that.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Was the story of the game.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if we see another epic
matchup against these two teams.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
And this is what I would say.
Speaker 9 (21:36):
Like, you know, a lot of people were talking about
the fact that, well, this might come down to a
home field advantage thing in the playoffs at some point.
I think there's some guys that are just built different.
Josh Allen's built different, Lamar Jackson's built different. I could
I could honestly see someone like Lamar Jackson being like.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Nah, No, I'd rather go beat them at their place.
I'd rather go back to Buffalo and do it.
Speaker 9 (21:59):
And He's just cut that mindset. I didn't have that mindset.
I would to play playoff games at home. But Lamar
I could just He's there's something special about both these
two guys.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
And that's why I was such a great game to watch.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
It was I said this, and this was not a
knock on Aaron, But I didn't think the story of
the game was Aaron. I thought the story of the
game was the Jets have been looking for their next
quarterback star for years and I know it's week one.
That was easily the best I've seen justin fields play
and Matt, this is something you've taught me and others,
is that it wasn't first read stuff. You'd watch his head.
(22:31):
He would look left, he would look middle, he would
look right. Let it rip, it be a dart like
that was quarterback play. Also, you're going up against Tomlin TJ.
Watt like Pittsburgh plays defense. It was kind of jaw dropping,
Like I was like, oh, is he going to be
Baker and Gino and Sam, Like I don't know if
you're the Jets you wake up this morning. You got
to feel pretty good about that loss, don't you.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
I mean you got to be encouraged.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
I mean until the night game. That was the game
of the week. That was an incredible game, you know,
I said, I sort of felt like it was like
a high school reunion.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
You're trying to impress your old flame kind of a game.
Speaker 9 (23:06):
Like the both quarterbacks were like, man, I got to
be my best. I got to show out my best
for you know, I'm the one that got away like that.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
That's what looked like for both quarterbacks.
Speaker 9 (23:14):
And I think people rallied around those both quarterbacks, and
I just thought the identity of what both teams are
trying to be this year showed up. I thought justin
Fields was I think he was good, not great, but
like I think he can be great.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
I really do.
Speaker 9 (23:28):
And and you know, obviously he's a great runner, but
it's not about that. It's about it's about being a
passer first and then being a threat as a runner.
On the flip side, Aaron Rodgers once was great with
his feet and moving around the pocket.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
That's no longer his game unless you design it that way.
Speaker 9 (23:46):
So drop back pass and then I go scramble, no
poy no okay, but play action passing a designed roll
out move the pocket. Aaron Rodgers is as good as
there's ever been with his eyes, his arm, and his head.
I thought that that was really good for Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
I know it's a Monday, it's week one, but I
watched Detroit's offense and people, coordinators matter, they matter. I
mean you I remember Philadelphia lost two great coordinators, hired
two new guys, and like by week ten, you're like
they're bad. I watched the Lions. I'm sorry, but Ben
(24:22):
Johnson was missed, was he not?
Speaker 7 (24:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (24:25):
I mean he's a great coach.
Speaker 9 (24:27):
I think maybe one of the best, maybe the best
play caller.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
In the game for the last couple of years.
Speaker 9 (24:32):
Just so creative, so confident, and so that's not a
knock on the new guys, but like it's going to
take time to gel and there's a void there. You know,
you lose maybe your best offensive coach, you know, to
the Bears, and then you maybe lose one of your
other unsung hero offensive coaches to the Jets.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
That's not nothing, and that happens.
Speaker 9 (24:50):
You see great coaches and great assistant coaches that happens
in any organization. I think too, like someone leaves and
you realize, oh, like, oh wow, that person was a
lot more valuable to who.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
We were than than we realized.
Speaker 9 (25:01):
But like you said, it's week one and they'll have
a time to gell. But I think the story of
that game was just how how many, how amazing they get.
The Green Bay Packers looked they came to play.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
You know, it's interesting Micah only played about forty forty
five percent of the snaps And take me to your
experience in the NFL. There is something about adding a
great player to a team, and it just it felt
like the Packers' confidence, like their chest was out and
he played forty percent of the snaps. But I don't know,
it's almost like you go out drinking and you got
(25:31):
one of the high school wrestlers behind you just in
case you get a little softy. I thought the Packers
played it was so much confidence. Defensively.
Speaker 9 (25:40):
Yeah, it's like Kevin a great closer in baseball, Like
we hey, we got a closer.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
You know, like if it's third and long, we got it.
Speaker 9 (25:46):
You know, we're we're gonna have a game changing play.
We're gonna close the door. We're gonna We're gonna do it.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
And I also think I told you on Friday.
Speaker 9 (25:54):
The unknown for an offense when you're growing, when you're
going up again against a great pass rusher and you
don't know where he's going to line up, You don't
know what down he's going to play on. You don't
know like our whole you know, before you drop any
pass plays, you drop your projection schemes, and a lot
of times you'll say, Okay, we're gonna slide the line
to him.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Well what if he's not even on the field.
Speaker 9 (26:13):
Now, what Like, we're really going to slide a bunch
of people to just some random dude we don't even
know who he is, So like it's it's I actually,
as a quarterback, I would rather know where he's going
to be and if he's going to be on the
field every snap, that would be easier.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
So I sort of like, I don't know, I feel
the pain of Detroit.
Speaker 9 (26:31):
I mean, shoot, they were planning for this game mich
Comparson's not even on the team, and then all of
a sudden he's on the team, and how much is
he even going to play?
Speaker 3 (26:38):
It was that's not a great place to be as
an offense.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
I said, I have been a little underwhelmed in my
career with Brock Purdy. I know he's talented, but I
think he's been a tad over hype because he's a
seventh round pick. I remember in college the knock on
him was he's small and his decision making. You know,
he lets it rip. And I thought yesterday Kittle, Trent Williams,
Jennings out o lines okay on the road Seattle, I
(27:06):
was kind of blown away with him. I don't care
about the picks. I watched him yesterday carry a team
that's the most impressed I've ever been. I'm serious, I
was kind of I think that defense for Seattle is fast.
I thought party was great.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Your thoughts, yeah, hey, I can't stop smiling. Finally I'm
showing you the light. With Rock Perdy Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 9 (27:31):
I mean, even it wasn't one hundred percent, there were
a lot of questions if he was even gonna play
Rock Perty's unfazed. I'm not sure if he's ever lost
in Seattle. I think it's really impressive what he has done.
He is otherworldly to me when it comes to just
like this cool calm collected when the chaos is around.
You know, in quarterbacks room, we had this saying pretty
(27:52):
much everywhere I was be comfortable, get comfortable being uncomfortable,
and like, that's what I see out of this guy.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Listen. Looks like a high school quarterback. I get it.
Speaker 9 (28:02):
But he can make all the throws. He's way more
mobile than people think. His teammates and coaches in general
manager absolutely love him. They think he's worth every penny.
When I turn on the tape, I think he's really good.
I know people are looking for six five and a
half and all this other stuff and some big college,
but uh, I think he's a really really good player.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Okay, so listen. I do think a lot of the
trouble in Miami is they is the front office. I
don't like their roster. I think they went to perimeter speed,
didn't pay attention to their offensive line. I think they're
they you know, they move a lot and they're fun,
but I don't. I don't what's the meat in the
sandwich for the Dolphins or maybe the Colts and Daniel
(28:43):
Jones are underrated. That was embarrassing though, for a week
one performance like that that you don't see that a lot.
I'll never say quit, but there wasn't a lot of juice.
Who do you credit? What do you make of the
Dolphins getting completely blown out at Indy?
Speaker 9 (29:00):
Yeah, well, you know, I've heard you mentioned, and I
think it's a great point. You know, there's something to
be being a great play caller, but it's not doesn't
necessarily mean.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
You're a great head coach.
Speaker 9 (29:08):
You're a great culture setter, leader, all that kind of stuff.
And quite honestly, going back to last year, some of
the things that I've seen on the sidelines, some of
the things people say in the locker room, the Tyreek
kill thing, it's bad ball, Like, I don't think it's
a winning culture that way.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
I don't.
Speaker 6 (29:24):
Now.
Speaker 9 (29:24):
On the flip side, I think the Colts were playing
for something bigger than themselves. Jim Rsey passing away. I've
played for the Colts for three years. That is a
very family oriented kind of an organization, one heartbeat kind
of thing. It's started way back in the day with
Tony Dungee and those guys. But even when I was
an opponent, I remember when Chuck Pagano was going through
cancer and as an opponent, I was looking over to
(29:45):
the sidelines and looking at that organization, and I was saying,
you know, there's something unique and special about what they
got going on there, top to bottom, and it made
me actually want to go sign with that organization.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
I had respect for it.
Speaker 9 (29:57):
I think you still see that Miami has been more
fragmented than that. You know, I'm not saying that's what
they always were, but it's a little bit more fragmented.
And I do think that that shows up on the field.
You either pull together or pull apart in times of adversity.
That to me looked like a team that did not
pull together.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Finally, if I suggested to you that the Raiders are
going to be vying for the playoffs, Jmack and I
have talked about this. Gino with time to throw in
a run game, is very effective in his career. His
play action numbers are excellent. Crosby. I like Jacoby Myers, Brockbauers,
(30:35):
Ashton Gent. I think Colton Miller and their old lines
better than average. I mean, they controlled that game. Gino
was a notch above Drake May. I don't know, it's
hard Chip Kelly, Pete Carroll. I don't overreact Matt. But
it was impressive, was it not.
Speaker 9 (30:53):
It's hard not to overreact, but I mean it was
a ten to seven game at halftime they were losing
to the Patriots, and one fourth down conversion a big play.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
You know.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
I don't know that they look that great, but.
Speaker 9 (31:05):
Sure, yeah, you play sixty minutes. I was impressed.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
I'm impressed with Pete Carroll, the oldest head coach ever.
Maybe I don't know. He hates when I say that,
so I say it more. But he's impressive. He's really good.
Speaker 9 (31:16):
Talked about culture and identity and how we talk in
the building and what we're gonna be.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
I love it.
Speaker 9 (31:21):
Chip Kelly way underrated, Gino Smith, underrated, Max Crosby. Game
changer caused in interception with pressure. You know we mentioned
a closer before. That's why those pass rushers make that
much money. I don't know if they have enough firepower offensively,
what they might, you know, and knowing Pete Carroll like
they're gonna go get it. This is a game that
(31:41):
meant a lot to them, A lot of ties. Pete
Carroll going back to New England, Chip Kelly's from New Hampshire.
Tom Brady's kind of running football ops there, so we'll see.
I think it's a long season, but this was a
game that meant a lot to a lot of people
in the Raiders organization. So huge win, A huge win
on the road for Las Vegas.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Eight stuff. Matt Hasselbeck, what a fun weekend we had
Bears Vikings tonight. I don't know what I'm going to
get in that one matters.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
You know exactly what you're gonna get tonight. You know exactly.
Speaker 9 (32:09):
You can get a whole lot of Brian Flores and
it's gonna be impressive.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Yep. We talked about that earlier. To keep your eye
on Brian Flores and Caleb Williams and that chest match.
Good talking to Matt Azola's okay, see it all right?
So yeah, I mean I like Minnesota tonight. They have
the better roster. I don't think home field in the
NFL means more than maybe a point. There were a
lot of things I thought. Michael Pennis and cam Ward
(32:33):
looked good. Bo Nick struggled. I've got some thoughts on that.
I thought the Raiders. You know, I grew up watching
the Raiders on the West Coast play those four o'clock
games with Stabler and Eugene Upshaw and I mean Fred
Bulletnikoff and Cliff Branch and those memories are so embedded
for me as a kid. The Raiders are remember when
(32:55):
the Warriors before they got Steph. I'd said this before.
It's a great brand. It's just been dormant or a
sleep for thirty years since Rick Berry. I mean, you
watched the Raiders yesterday. They got some dudes, They got
some dudes.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
They were fine. The Patriots looked inferior.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
You know, I'm gonna ask you about one guy we
haven't talked about, and that's Russell Wilson because Colin there's
a lot of people talking about this New York Giants. See, hey,
Daniel Jones sure looked awesome with the Colts.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
They scored on every drive.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Russell Wilson and a team that returned ten of eleven starters,
and they couldn't do anything against Washington, which doesn't even
have a great defense.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
I'll ask yourself this next week at half Giants Trail fourteen. Nothing,
You're gonna start loosing the locker room next week?
Speaker 4 (33:41):
What about Thursday at practice? I'm wondering because Russ did
not look comfortable doing it. Malik Neighbors was kind of
erupting on the sideline. Listen, man, I know we like Dable,
he's a sharp, offensive mine. But Colin, it's starting to
look like if this keeps up, he ain't lasting the season.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Oh no way, I don't think so. In La, it's
the herd.
Speaker 6 (34:00):
In
