Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowver
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Here we go. It is a Monday. We're live in LA.
It's the Herd. Wherever you may be and however you
may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day.
You know, j Max, you said something about five minutes
ago as we were sitting here at jotting some notes down.
The bottom of the NFL is like the bottom of
the NBA. Now, there are some bad teams. Two of
them may be in New York. It was not a

(00:50):
good weekend for New York sports. The Yankees, Giants, Jets,
even Buffalo Upstate. But we've been sitting waiting for Philadelphia
because they keep winning and we keep waiting for Philadelphia
to lose, and finally they met their match. Yeah, Hey, Denver, Broncos,
your guy Bonicks yep. So in football and in life.

(01:11):
Drip drip, drip, Like people don't wake up and just decide,
let's get a divorce. There were signs. Companies don't go
from great quarterly earnings to we're bankrupt. There are signs,
warning signs, red flags, arguments. Philadelphia has been a leaky
faucet for five weeks. We've been talking about this. Saquon Barkley,

(01:33):
his production's been cut in half. The Lions have two
running backs that are more productive than Saquon Barkley. They
labor to get the ball to aj Brown, an elite
wide receiver. The offensive line used to be the best
in the sport. Middle of the pack doesn't even look
close to Detroit's now. So I've been preaching this for

(01:54):
three years. Nick Seriani is not a scheme guy. Okay,
so he is very offensive coordinator dependent, all right, So
when he has a great coordinator, he gets the Super Bowls.
He hired Brian Johnson didn't work circle the drain. He
missed on a coordinator. Hired somebody in the building that

(02:15):
had never called plays before. Could be a good coach,
but right now, at this moment in that coach's life,
probably not the right fit. With this veteran offense, and
it just it took a half. But bow Knicks, who's
still a kid. Bo Nix has played what twenty two
starts in the NFL. He's gonna have bad halves, he's
gonna have bad throws. But in that second half, Sean
Payton and this is what he does, maybe as good

(02:37):
as any coach in this league. That's second half. Sean
Payton extracted every yard out of that offense. Two point
conversions on the road, noisy crowd, everybody involved, multiple receivers
running the ball. Another very good Denver draft. All these
guys can play, and bow Knicks, that dude is athletic

(02:58):
and he is fast. He used to hold the ball
a little long last year. Bow Knicks is seeing it
and let it rip. So the better team, the better coach,
and yes, the better quarterback. By the second half of
that game, we're on display. And this is nothing against
Nick Sara Janni, but he's got a stacked roster. And
don't even try to convince me forty five yard rushing.

(03:22):
The big plays are gone. They were a good big
play team. They're done. They're seventeenth in the NFL in
big plays with aj Brown, Devonte Smith, Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts.
They're seven, They're middle of the pack on big plays.
Yards per play has tanked. Saquon Barkley's getting touched a
yard into the carry, not two and a half. So

(03:43):
this is not on the players. The players were great
last year. What did they do all eat twinkies in
the offseason? Give me a break. It's a coordinator higher
and that's okay. A lot of coaches in this league
are not Kyle Shanahan. Kyle Shanahan Thursday Night goes out
with backups everywhere and out coaches Sean McVay. He's a
scheme guy. Coordinators much less relevant than Kyle Shanahan. And

(04:07):
it's not a knock on Sirianni, but that's not what
he is. And so if he makes the wrong oc higher,
this is not the same team. It's not the players,
it's not the effort, it's not the toughness. Coaching matters.
We've seen this more and more coordinating matters in this league.
Second half of that game, Sean Payton put on a
clinic bo Nicks with twenty two starts against Vic Fangio,

(04:28):
one of the best defensive coordinators in the sport clinic
up and down those last two drives, and here's Sirianni after.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
I think that the guys have worked extremely hard in preparation.
I see the same hunger that was there prior to
us winning the Super Bowl. So I don't think it's
it's anything like that again, just this name of this
game is always going to come down to, you know, detail,
and you know, as far as us as coaches and players,

(04:58):
we weren't detailed enough to and they were a little
more detailed than us.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Okay, usually my second story on a Monday isn't about
a blowout. But when Dak Prescott broke into this league,
Zeke was a great running back. The O line, Tyron Smith,
Zach Martin, it was the best on line and a
decade in the NFL. Dak got a lot of credit
and didn't have to do a lot of heavy lifting.

(05:24):
He had a babysit Dez Bryant. That was about it,
but he was a little overrated. Now, Dak, this Dak
is not getting enough credit. They don't have a number
one receiver currently. The offensive line is still in a
rebuild mode. Running game okay, staff, fine, defense last in
the league. Okay, Dak Prescott, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield. It's

(05:45):
like they've hit the ten thousand hour rule. Like they're
just I mean, they're all smart guys, but they have
reached another level of football IQ and Dak's gone from
a little over rated to now underappreciated. If I had
an MVP vote today, I would vote by Baker Mayfield
one and Dak two. I would give Baker it because

(06:06):
he's won more games and he's won them late. But
also Baker Mayfield has the better general manager, the better
rookie receiver. I think the overall roster in Tampa is
much better than the Cowboys roster. But right now, what
you're seeing Dak Prescott do this is the best stack
I've ever seen. First of all, I think he's lost
weight and gained strength. They're missing three offensive linemen. Ceedee

(06:29):
Lamb's a top five receiver. Doesn't have him running backs
kind of by committee, Okay, not special, And listen, Brian
Schottenheimer deserves a lot of credit. We don't think he's
Andy Reider Sean Payton. So again, I I'm looking at
MVP right now. And here's the other thing to remember
about Dak where he deserves a lot of credit. Everybody

(06:49):
said when des Bryant left, he was in trouble. Nope,
when Zeke left, he's in trouble. Tyron Smith left, Micah left,
the great Zach Martin, all these great players have left,
and every time, as long as Dak Prescott is upright,
the Cowboys win double digit games. I mean, let's be honest.

(07:09):
Sometimes it takes a long time. You got to read
to the end of the book. Yeah, I ever read
a mystery or a murder mystery and you kind of
figure it out with a fourth or fifth chapter, and
then they're really great books. Like like all of a sudden,
you're like, in chapter ten twelve, Dak, you got to
peel this onion. You got to peel this There was
the a little over hype Dac with a great o'

(07:32):
line in a great run game, and Jerry Jones at
the time felt, you know, not quite as meddling. And
then all of a sudden, it's Mike McCarthy and Dak's
actually putting up better numbers. And now McCarthy leaves. Brian Schottenheimer,
who nobody loved, Ceedee Lamb is hurt, Mike is gone.

(07:53):
It is a lot of C plus players and they're
still rebuilding this offensive line, and Dak looks unbelievable. He
was getting MVP chants in New York and he was
asked about it after.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
I mean my hears work, So I heard it, but
I didn't hear it. To your answer, it's week five,
I don't care. I don't care if this week seventeen.
I've told y'all what I want to win. The team
goals right now. The success and the continued success is
going to happen. Is just a beneficiaria of all the

(08:28):
guys in that locker room.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Again, Oas says the right thing. He is a dropped
pass against Philadelphia from being three to one and one.
Don't pay attention to the two to two and one.
He is playing next level. Remember they tied green Bay,
and I mean the way green Bay was running the
clock late in that game could have won it. They
had Philadelphia beat Ceedee Lamb at his worst game as

(08:52):
a pro. Three drops one, I mean right in the
bread basket. So you can't. Sometimes the record doesn't blie
the truth. Jax Plant out of his mind, so is Baker,
So is Darnold. It's these old guys. They got the
ten thousand hours. But I think I would vote Baker
Mayfield MVP of the league today. I think I would.
I would have right now Dak runner up from you know,

(09:15):
a little over hyped to is everybody paying attention to
what's happening here? Coaching staff, ownership O line. I mean,
find me a guy in the league that's working with
a bunch of mid that's putting up those numbers. Well
it's the Jets. Well the Jets look pretty good against
the Steelers. The Jets didn't look that bad last week.
Whatever's happening. Dak goes on the road. It's one of

(09:38):
my favorite picks of the week. I mean that thing
was what was that thing? Twenty three at three, at
half thirty to three at one point, and Dak's putting
on a clinic that is amazing. So j Mack, who
did you went five on one in your picks? I
had a winning week as well, So we know, taking
over a less talented team and rebuil building it it's hard. Yeah,

(10:02):
to Aaron Glenn's great example, but it's not that hard,
Just like anything in life, taking over a building, a business, ye.
I mean, uh, you know, for a therapist fixing a
rocky marriage, it's hard, but it's not that hard. Competent
people can do it. How about New England. How about
what Mike Vrabel's doing and Drake May's doing. Drake May

(10:23):
looks amazing, incredible fourth quarter line. Your Jets had more
high end players when Aaron Glenn took him over than
New England had, I don't and a more experienced quarterback
and justin fields. So again, same division. I'm not saying
it isn't hard, but you're seeing a gap between Mike

(10:44):
Rable and Aaron Glenn in a month. It's not. So
we'll talk about that. It's easy to beat up on Buffalo.
I don't think last night was about the Buffalo Bills
at all. I think everybody in this sport has a stinker.
They fumbled it, it was ball security was a mess.
We'll talk about what's happening in New England as well
as Baker and Sam, who put on an absolute clinic yesterday.

(11:08):
In the Pacific Northwest.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Where Colin was right, I told you the Eagles may
not be solvable. Folks. Saquon Barkley, you're not getting a
yard before he's getting hit. I think Nick Sirianni is
very coordinator dependent. It aj Brown, mister invisible forty three total,
yall uards. Saquon had six carries all game. Not only
does coaching matter, I've been preaching this, coordinators matter. Look

(12:08):
at the Niners with Robert Sola and a bunch of
young guys in Fred Warner. This is not a player's
issue in Philly. It's a coordinator issue. Where Colin was
raw well, the best football coach in the world is
Jim Harball stick with that, but boy, that didn't look
like it yesterday. Ten penalties. That's after last week having
fourteen against the Giants. Listen, they don't have their offensive coordinators.

(12:31):
Justin Herbert is in big trouble. But if Kansas City
wins tonight, and I think they will, the Chiefs, the Broncos,
and the Chargers will all be knotted up at three
to two in the AFC West. I know they're injury plague,
but the Chargers look directionless as of now. Where Colin
was right, I picked New England to make the playoffs.

(12:53):
I said they would be the double the win total
team and they're three and two and face the Saints,
the Titans and the brown coming up. Mike Frable is
one of the smartest coaches in the league, and I think,
listen the last four starts. Drake May's got six cuddies
in one pick, so, like a lot of young quarterbacks,
he's got to clean some stuff up. But this is

(13:15):
what I thought they would be. The Jets and the
Dolphins were circling the drain without a real culture. I
knew Vrabel would get it right very fast. I think
he's even ahead of schedule.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Raiders are one and four, and I thought they would
be a solid offensive team. And I'm not a huge
fan of Geno Smith, but I didn't think they'd be
thirtieth in scoring. Gino's been awful. The defense didn't have
any sacks yesterday, which is you know that's Raiders usually
can pressure the quarterback. Gino Smith's comeback story, It's not

(13:48):
going to be Darnold or Baker or Daniel Jones. He's
not that good. Second worst point differential in the NFL.
I thought with Chip Pete and Gino, they would be
a viable team capable of beating anybody in their division.
And I'm not sure if they're capable of winning over
the next month. Where Colin was right, Miami blew was

(14:09):
seventeen nothing lead to Carolina. This goes back the hipster
head coach, zero toughness, zero culture, and I think you
lose games late when you don't know what you are.
You can have talent, what are they? And I said
Mike Vrabel, his schemes are toughness. This team I never
ever know quite what they are outside of really fast

(14:32):
at wide receiver. So I mean think about this. They
were out gained on the ground by Carolina two hundred
and thirty nine yards to nineteen. They are the opposite
of the Patriots under Vrabel. Where Colin was raw, Yeah,
I got a little over dramatic. I overreacted when I
said the Lions' new coordinators could be has Matt spill Yeah,

(14:54):
I was wrong. Jared Goff has he thrown an incompletion
in the last couple of weeks, completed like seventy five
percent of their throws. Listen upstairs. They got too many
good players, best backfield, best offensive line. They've won the
last four games like a college team by sixteen points.
Johnny Martin is calling a smart game, and it goes

(15:16):
back to something that you have to believe in. Dan
Campbell created the culture and this general manager in this
front office, they do not miss on a lot of
draft picks. They may go in the trade deadline and
get a corner. Keep your eyes on the Detroit Lions
getting some secondary help at the trade deadline, Rams and Lions,
keep your eye on that. Where Colin was right, I

(15:39):
said the Yankees are a good team, but they're not
great because they're so uneven. They have been blown out
twice by Toronto they have an average bullpen. They strike
out way too much. They're completely home run dependent, and
Aaron Judge and John Carlos Stanton are great players, but
in the postseason you don't get as many bad pitches.
They don't play small ball. The Dodgers have a stack roster,

(16:01):
but can play small ball and grind out at bats.
This is a good team, but everybody bangs on Aaron Boone.
This is an uneven roster. They've surrendered twenty three runs
in two games. What is a manager supposed to do?
The Yankees are a good team, but they're too uneven
to be great. Where Colin was raw, Well, my Penn

(16:25):
State Texas meet for the National Championship prediction, I'm gonna
go with not gonna happen. Ucla played a nearly flawless
first three quarters and drew Aller and Arch Manning that
were at very high profile quarterbacks. Arch is really struggling
and drew Aller. Not a lot of juice, Nico Iamaliava.

(16:47):
Let's give him credit. We were all beating up on
that kid. UCLA's coaches, Jerry Neuheisel, leaned into his athletic ability.
So the Texas offense and the Penn State defense we
thought could be great or a mess. Where Colin was right,
where Colin was wrong On a Monday.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Well, every year, I pick a team that I think
is going to come close to doubling their wins, and
I've been on about a four year streak, and the
Patriots were that team this year. For a lot of reasons. One,
I didn't like the direction of the Dolphins or the Jets,
and I thought they could go four and oh and
I also think so much of Mike Frable, who's just
a really bright guy. Everybody I've ever known that knows

(17:35):
Mike just instantly connects with him. Drew bledsone knows him.
They actually played together for a year, and Drew is
joining US undisclosed location in the Northwest. I'm jealous, That's
all I'm gonna say. A beautiful, beautiful place. So you
were only a teammate for a year. But everybody I
know that's played with him or been in the staff,
he just is, you know, Drew. Some guys just have

(17:57):
a connectability, and tell me about your relationship with Vrabel
in the year you played with him.

Speaker 7 (18:03):
You know, it's funny because I only played with Mike
for one year, but it seems like we were teammates
for like five or six years. You know, we just
had a great connection personally. You know, it's not a
surprise to me or to anybody that knows Mike that
he's had great success as a coach. You know, one
funny thing about Mike is he just had so damn
much energy as a player. You know, he would you know,

(18:24):
in the middle of practice, he would go run scout team,
kickoff coverage just to burn off some energy. I've compared
him to like a like a labrador, you know, like
like you got to run him, you know, like like
you had to run him. And honestly, that's how Rabes
ended up catching all those touchdowns that he caught. I
get credit for those, call him because before games, he

(18:47):
had to burn off energy before NFL games, So I
would go out and throw the ball to him in
pregame and that's when you know, Charlie Wise and Belichick
saw him running around and decided to put him in
on offense. So he owes me for all those touchdown cans.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
He certainly does. I will say Drake May, I liked
him at Carolina. I just thought he was kind of rough.
But you know, Vrabel kept saying, he just needs to
understand you got to be a leader. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
I was almost like saying, I love you. This is
your team now. But I do think Drew. You know this.
When you go to an NFL team, you're you're the

(19:23):
youngest guy on the team for the first two or
three years, and yet your coach is like, all right,
be a leader. You're talking to thirty seven year old
left tackles. Give me a little your experience in Drake May,
when you are a young guy looking older players in
the face and like I need you to do this,
this and this.

Speaker 8 (19:41):
God, it was intimidating.

Speaker 7 (19:42):
Man.

Speaker 8 (19:43):
I mean I was twenty one.

Speaker 7 (19:44):
I just turned twenty one stepping into the huddle with
grown ass men like these people have families and investment portfolios,
you know, and I'm just fresh out of college and
that's that's where Drake is. But you know, but being
a leader doesn't mean you have to be vocal right away.
You know, you can actually you just get the job done.
You show up early, you stay late, you work hard,
you try to win the wind sprints, you try to

(20:06):
do all the little things that you can do physically,
and then you earn the right to be heard vocally.
Uh and uh, you know, but watching watching watching Drake
and his progression, you know, Uh, it's I think the
comparisons and I you know, look, we're not going to
put the guy in the Hall of Fame quite yet,
but the comparisons to Josh Allen are I think are
very real.

Speaker 8 (20:25):
You know, you remember Josh's you know.

Speaker 7 (20:27):
First year Uh, you know, a lot of interceptions, pretty
rough around the edges, accuracy maybe wasn't great, and then
you watched his progression and now he's you know, certainly
in the conversation for best in the game. Uh. And
I think the comparisons between Drake may And and Josh
Allen are real.

Speaker 8 (20:42):
I really do.

Speaker 7 (20:43):
And and that's high praise for Drake as just a
second year player, But I think that's very real.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
So you know, this happens in the NFL from time
to time. I've always we all know coaches matter and
quarterbacks are the key, but coordinators matter, and right now,
Philly's got talent, but they have no identity. They don't
know what the hell they are. And it's almost like,
you know, they've had so much success, it's like, guys,
you're kind of a blue collar, punch in the mouth offense.
That's kind of what you are. Don't be bashful again

(21:11):
when you watch Philly and you're like, how does Saquon
have six carries? Is it hard? Sometimes, Drew, when you
could be winning or losing and you kind of lose
who you are as an offense. Have you ever been
in a spot like that? You're like, I know I
got the players, but we forgot what we are.

Speaker 7 (21:29):
Yeah, you know, I think Philly. You're exactly right. They're
a punchy in the mouth. Run the football, play defense,
play action, you know, big play. You know, a team
and that's you know, that's that's who they are, you know.
But in order to you know, in order to play
that way though, you have to be remarkably consistent. You know,
you know, you have to you have to convert third
down so you can keep running the football. You know,

(21:50):
you've got to get the defensive stops. You've got to
be you know, you've got to be on schedule, you know,
and we you know, meaning you know, get four yards
on first down, get three or four yards on second down,
so your third down, so you can run the ball,
and you know, you can execute the touch push and
do all of those things. And so you just have
to be remarkably consistent with all of your execution in
order to play that way. And I just think they're

(22:11):
seeing a little bit of inconsistency out of the Eagles
offense right now.

Speaker 8 (22:14):
Now. You know, they're four and one, I don't know,
and they played you know, the.

Speaker 7 (22:18):
Broncos are a good football team, and you know, so
there's no reason to panic, you know, with what's going
on with the Eagles. But but their identity is their identity,
you know, and it's fitting for Philly because that's what
Philly is is a city. You know, it's a blue
collar city, and that's the way the Eagles. But they
have to be remarkably consistent offensively to play the style
that they're playing.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
So you were the rare, like Peyton Manning. You're a
five star high school kid, you're a great college guy,
you're a top draft pick. So you didn't, like Baker
Mayfield had to walk on and a lot of these
guys transfer. You didn't have that nasty chip on the shoulder.
You may have had it from how you were treated
by somebody else, but you came in like you're the

(22:59):
guy you're gonna get paid. That's not your life. And
I said, I think chip on the shoulder is important
as long as it doesn't consume you and define you.
I thought it kind of defined Baker for about three years.
It's like, dude, you don't have to go to the
press conference every week and pick a fight like you
Sometimes it's okay to be like, hey, I'm telling a

(23:21):
guy Baker and Sam yesterday, I had a lot of
critics to watch them yesterday. I'm like, I almost wonder
if all the crap they went through is actually why
they're so good. Do you buy that?

Speaker 7 (23:34):
I think there's something to that, Colin. You know, you
look at Baker and I was curious to see how
he handled that, you know, because he was that underdog guy,
the walk on that had to transfer and had to
move schools, and then all of a sudden, you know,
his top draft pick, and you know, it's hard to
have a chip on your shoulder when you're the number
one overall draft pick that doesn't really fly. People aren't
looking down on you anymore. And I think that's an adjustment.

(23:55):
But I think that's kind of just how he's wired.
And and it's kind of the way he plays, you know,
plays a little bit like Farv you know, where he
just you know, he kind of needs to get hit,
he needs to run around. He needs to be a
football player, you know, rather than just a you know,
a game manager type of quarterback. And uh, that's when
he's at his best, I think. And and so you know,
sometimes you have to manufacture that chip on your shoulder.

Speaker 8 (24:17):
Uh and uh you know.

Speaker 7 (24:19):
So maybe that's why Baker was so at times so
contentious with the media, because he was just trying to
create this uh chip on his shoulder when it when
it wasn't actually real.

Speaker 8 (24:28):
But but the guy's got real arm talent.

Speaker 7 (24:30):
You know, like you look at it like he's a
smaller guy, but you look at the throws he makes. Uh,
you know, this guy he can spin it. You know,
this is not uh, this is not a guy that's
getting by on you know, average ability. He can really
throw the ball. Uh you know, so uh, you know,
for him to be looked at as this uh this
underdog anymore. I don't think he's accurate. I think I
do think he's one of the elite guys in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Yeah, so I want to kind of end it on this,
uh is that Belichick is not working in college and
I I love college football. I love it, and my
theory theory is always once you buy into your own supply,
you're done. It doesn't matter how smart you are, or
once you get rigid. The late Bobby Knight's like, I'm
not gonna do one and done's well, bro, everybody else

(25:13):
is doing them. You know, you got it. You gotta
put your arm around it. And Belichick, you know, he
said later in his career, it's like, there's certain guys
that don't want to coach. Well, you gotta you need talent.
He can't. You're buying into your own hype. Vrabel is
about the players Bill became about Bill. I watch him
in college and my takeaway is Bill just wants to

(25:34):
coach who he wants to coach. And I didn't think
he would dominate college football. But are you surprised just
how bad it's been?

Speaker 2 (25:44):
You?

Speaker 1 (25:44):
You you know, you obviously know him. It's it's just
I mean, college football is kind of a young guy's game.
He may just not be he may not work at
this level.

Speaker 8 (25:53):
Drew.

Speaker 7 (25:54):
Yeah, you know, I think it's it's tough, Colin. And
Bill is obviously brilliant, there's no getting around. But he
also put together teams in New England that were brilliant.
You know, you look at the guys on the defenses
that he coached and the you know, you got, you know,
really brilliant guys. Rabel was one of those guys. You know,
Teddy Bruski, you know Ty law Lawyer, Molloy, Rodney Harrison.

(26:17):
You know, you look at all of these guys that
he was coaching. You know, he had brilliant guys with him,
and that was that really worked well for him because
Bill's a brilliant guy, but you have to have brilliant
players in order to, you know, to to really showcase that.
And I also just think, man, you know, you just
look at the optics. And I'm not piling on Bill here,
but you know you're you're gonna go sit in the

(26:38):
living room with a seventeen year old you know, do
you want to go play for Bill Belichick as a
seventeen year old, you know, or do you want to go,
you know, play for the Oregon Ducks or do you
want to go?

Speaker 8 (26:48):
Trust me?

Speaker 7 (26:49):
I hate the Ducks, but but but I would love
to play for Dan Lanning, you know. And you just
look at that, Uh what what he's dealing with? I
don't think it's tough for him, settled down, but sorry,
my dog's going to attack. My dog's going to attack.
But I think, uh, you know, I think with uh,
it's just a it's an up it's an uphill battle
for him because he's got us around him, you himself,

(27:11):
with you know, really brilliant players in order to execute
the stuff that he wants to do.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
By the way, what would your dog possibly be barking
at what's your dog's name?

Speaker 8 (27:20):
Uh, that's Tyson. He's a trained killer.

Speaker 7 (27:22):
Uh he's uh, yeah, he's he's going to go chase
the bears off of our property up here and just
keep us safe.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Okay, I'm gonna say, I know where you're at. There's
not a lot to bark at where you're at right now.
It's beautiful.

Speaker 7 (27:34):
Yeah, no, it's it's good. He's but he keeps us safe. Man,
we sleep, We sleep tight at night and know we
have this little attack dog.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
I'm going to end with this. Dak Prescott. I never
thought he was a great arm talent, but he did
something very early in his career and I got so
much crud for this. He was walking up and down
the sideline and he walked by a garbage cannon. There
was a piece of cup on the ground, and he
stopped and he went back and he grabbed it and
he put it in the garbage And I thought, Okay,

(28:03):
that's just a He's conscientious. And I've always thought Jerry
Jones a bit of a circus. It's high profile Jerry.
He never says the wrong thing. And I've been on
this for years and people crush me for this, but
my whole take is quarterbacks different. I unfairly need you
to be thirty nine years old at twenty two, and

(28:24):
I look at Dak right now, and Dallas is a
circus about every other week. I don't know, is he MVP?
Like I'm always blown away by his maybe EQ or maturity.
How do you view Dak?

Speaker 7 (28:40):
You know, Colin, there was one thing that was really
really telling, and it's something that you can look at
with players you look at how their teammates react to them, right,
and it was really telling. You remember when Dak got
hurt a few years back, his teammates were in tears
when Dak went down, and so you know that really

(29:02):
tells you everything you need to know about who the
guy is and who he represents to his team and
to his teammates. You know, they were they were literally
you know, guys were crying when Dak got hurt. And
you know, you know that he just he's a great
leader for that team. He's a great stabilizer for that team.
He was a grown up coming in You know that
when you say you want a thirty nine year old

(29:23):
when you're twenty one or twenty two years old, that's
who he was coming into the league. He just he
showed maturity beyond his years and to be able to
be that person in underneath that circus tent that the
Cowboys tend to be, where all the eyes are on you,
whether people love you or hate you, they care. You know,
it's like pitching for the Yankees. People either either love
you or hate you, and Dack and Dak has been

(29:43):
able to take all of that and be a true
stabilizing force for that team and to see what he
did yesterday. You know, one of the most important things
that I always look at with teams is how healthy
is their offensive line? With three offensive line, three starting
offensive linemen down yesterday, I really felt like they were
going to struggle, and Dak came out just lit them up,

(30:03):
just absolutely lit them up.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Yeah, so did I. I thought the Jets would be competitive.
I just blown away by what I'm seeing. I love
these stories of these quarterbacks. They get ten thousand hours.
It's Baker, it's Darnold hell even Carson Wentz yesterday. These
guys get banged around and criticized and demoted, and Dak
has gone through a lot in Dallas. He's an easy
guy to root for. Drew Bledsoe double Back Winery, how

(30:26):
is your year?

Speaker 8 (30:27):
We're almost done with harvest.

Speaker 7 (30:29):
It looks like another great harvest up and balla wallat
So we've got an amazing team. You know, when you
talk about teams and cultures and all of that, We've
got a championship level team at the Winery.

Speaker 8 (30:38):
These are our team there.

Speaker 7 (30:39):
But right now they're at the end of harvest, so
they're all really tired and really grumpy. So I tried
to take care of them, muff them up a little
bit because they're working, you know, eighteen hour twenty hour
days right now, so you know, it's it's a little prickly,
but man, they just continue to make amazing wine for
us and we're having a lot of fun with it.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
Double Back look it up, the Double Back Winery and Walla, Walla, Washington.
I don't think as many hosts I know where that's
at exactly exactly I can find.

Speaker 8 (31:08):
Not many people, not many people do. It's the end
of the road.

Speaker 7 (31:11):
But it's a beautiful little town and we grow great
wine grapes up there.

Speaker 8 (31:14):
It's and it's my hometown. You know, I grew up there.

Speaker 7 (31:16):
So it's fun to be back there running a running
a cool business back in my hometown. And at the
end of the day we get to get to drink
some great wine and pretend like that's our job, which
is which is really fun.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
You don't age, my man, you look great. Thanks for
coming on.

Speaker 7 (31:29):
Likewise, Colin always good to catch up anybody
