Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowver
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Oh, here we go. It is a Tuesday. Can we
top yesterday show? Glad We'll give it a try. The Herd,
Hierarchy and Nick Wright in one hour from now, another
iconic World Series moment at Dodger Stadium on Fox Sports.

(00:49):
It is great to have you in today. I know
some of you are bleary eyed. I know we are
here in Chicago. Uh, what a wild night. J Mack,
you're in Los Angeles. It's a remarkable the people that
stayed at the game because they had an hour and

(01:09):
a half drive home. They're not going to be many
all time that are like that. So let's not waste
any time. Any World Series game that goes eighteen innings
can be won and lost several times, wasted and delivered moments.
The Blue Jays stranded nineteen runners. The Dodger stranded eighteen runners.

(01:33):
Both of these teams had opportunities much earlier in the game.
And it was not a Hollywood blockbuster movie. It was
more like an eight part Netflix special, six hours, six
hundred pitches plus. But it was a perfect representation of
what makes the Dodgers great. Yes, there is o Tawny
mj plus, he's absolutely unbelievable and we know that. But

(01:58):
you have Tommy Edmond making great defensive plays. That's what
Tommy Edmond does all the time. You had four scoreless
innings from Will Klein. He was pitching for the Tacoma Rainiers.
That's near where I grew up. He had a seven
ERA for them. Every iconic Dodger moment, especially at Dodger Stadium,

(02:22):
it's not just about the money. There's always a Will cline.
He threw sixty six pitches in September. He threw seventy
two last night against the Blue Jays, easily the best
American League team, and only surrendered a hit in four innings.
Will Klein, still a young guy, released three times this year.

(02:48):
They asked him to go four and he just kept
with that. Red Beard going out there and getting people out.
They needed Clayton Kershaw for a batter. Layton Kershaw delivered
so and then, of course, of course it's the Dodger.
So it goes without saying that Freddie Freeman would have
a walk off. But there were so many different Dodgers

(03:12):
that mattered. I mean, how fitting is it that Kershaw
they need an out? He gets it. Yes, it centers
around o Tawi. Listen to this. Otani hasn't made an out.
He hasn't made an out at Dodger Stadium in close
to two weeks. Seven for seven with six walks in

(03:34):
roughly two weeks, all extra base hits. We are lucky
to be witness to show. Hey, he is officially in
the sports world the show first player to have multiple
walks and multiple home runs in the same World Series game.
You have to go back to Yogi Barratt in the
fifties with the Yankees. Oh did I mention Otani is

(03:58):
starting tonight and we'll be throwing ninety nine miles an hour,
seventeen hours after he got on base nine times. Wasn't
it just last week that Otawni had the greatest baseball
game ever played. I'm losing track. It was show Hey
O Tawny all night long, of course, until the bottom

(04:23):
of the eighteenth eighteenth inning, when who else Freddie Freeman
closed the door.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Fuman sends a five doll as center field bar. Show's
going back before the Strakes big take play them has
ended up. It's a rapaid hero with the last word
turn a game free classic.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
I mean that that is goosebumps.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I didn't see a lot of people leaving tip of
the cap to Dodger fans. Eighteen innings ends at midnight,
much later where I'm sitting this morning. But I said
before the series Dodgers in six. Two best teams I
believe are the Jays. Now they've got an injury to overcome,
and I don't know how much gas they have. The

(05:22):
Dodgers got very lucky with Yoshi's complete game. Their bullpen
was rested. Tonight it'll be show Heyo TWI think about
this show Hey O Tani seven for seven, six walks
and his last thirteen plate appearances will now pitch tonight.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
And he's doing that.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Otani's doing that in a sport where everybody throws ninety
eight plus. I mean he's Patrick Mahomes and Miles Garrett
in one person.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
But it was more than Freeman, more than o Tawni.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
It was the out by Kershaw, the great defense it
plays by Tommy Edmund. It was Will Kline. There's always
a Will clinb for the Dodgers. Tria, a pitcher in Tacoma,
couldn't get people out there, four scoreless innings, biggest moment
of his life, still in his mid twenties.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
It was a game.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
These two teams played uniquely, the best two teams, and
here's Dave Roberts after.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
You know, that could go down as one of the
greatest games of all time, or you know, it was
ugly there for a while there, you know, but you know,
it's one of those things that I do believe that
the two best teams in baseball are playing in this
series and the two toughest teams. There's a lot of
character right there. And you know, you saw what Laward did,
You saw Will Klein did. We had you know, Henriquez,

(06:45):
who was in a ball last year, he's pitching, he
was Inningsrol Bleski and obviously Freddie being Freddie. It took
everybody on the active roster to win one baseball game,
and it's something special.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
What's really remarkable about the Dodgers, and I think about
this all the time, is that you know how they say,
if you like playing basketball, you don't have to be
an NBA player a college player. But if you like
playing basketball and you go to the YMCA and you
play against a bunch of guys that are better than you,
it will raise your game. You like, play better than
you normally do. Right, There's something about the way we

(07:21):
are wired. That's what it is with the Dodgers. You
put these single A guys, you put Will Kleine in,
You put these guys around Freeman and Bets and Otani
and Glass now and everybody rises to the moment. It's
not just the money. The Yankees and Mets have a
lot of money. It's not just that. And the other

(07:42):
thing that really struck me last night watching this. Otani
was doing this with the Angels, he just wasn't doing
it in October is that if you are a great
player and sometimes fans are like, well, I mean they
all go to the Yankee, so they all go to
the Dodgers. Otani deserved to be a Dodger. I said

(08:07):
it when he signed, and I'll say it again. He's
simply too great not to be on the stage in October.
He is not only the best baseball player ever, I'm
not sure who's second. Honestly, I think Mookie Betts is
the second most talented baseball player on the earth. Can
do outfield, can do shortstoff, could lead off, could hit third,

(08:29):
could hit fourth. I mean getting on base nine times.
You know, in basketball you say six for six, everybody
knows what you're talking about.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
MJ six for six. That's MJ.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Lebron's great all time leading score. He doesn't have a number.
I mean, Gretzky doesn't have a number. Otani got on
base nine times. That's his number. Nobody else could do that.
All right, There was kind of a boring football game
last night. I won't spend too much time on it,

(09:05):
but it is the best team right now in the
world of Kansas City Chiefs, who had kind of a
B minus C plus performance first two possessions, two interceptions.
They're still finding their way. Here's the scary thing, though,
six five weeks ago we were saying, what does.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
Kansas City do well?

Speaker 1 (09:23):
I'm watching last night against the Commanders in a blowout win,
and I'm thinking, what don't they do well? They have
more thirty point games and double digit wins right now
than all of last year, and we're at the halfway point.
So they haven't been this deep offensively since twenty twenty two.
Four hundred yards three times in the last month. Rashi

(09:43):
Rice is clearly clearly a number one, Xavier Worthy clever
number two, Juju Smith Schuster a perfect number three, and
Travis Kelce's not done. They have not punted in the
first half of their last three games. Their defense is
number two in the league. So and the scary thing

(10:04):
is they're missing two offensive linemen, so they're not quite
right yet. They're just not quite buttoned up on the front.
But I said this two weeks ago, I said it
last week, and I'll say it again. I think Kansas
City is a touchdown better than the second best team
in the league. And I still think this morning. They're

(10:25):
finding their way. But they haven't had this kind of offense,
these kind of weapons, this kind of depth since like
twenty twenty two. And I'm not even getting to the defense.
I don't even have to worry. Six weeks ago. We're
like their special teams aren't as good. They don't get
a consistent pass rush. This is what great coaching does.

(10:47):
Over the course of one, two, three, four, five weeks.
You just close up the weaknesses, build slowly on the straints.
Everything seems to work. Here's Patrick Mahomes after another win.

Speaker 6 (11:03):
I mean, I know the records, none is good, but
it's a lot more fun just when everybody's kind of
going out there and making stuff happen. But I think
we're getting better and better. You know, we lost some
tough games early that we had won in previous years.
But it's not like anyone he hung their head. They
they just continue to get better and better. And that's
all we have to do is is push forward and
whenever the offense to defense and the special team's rowing it,
it's fun to play football.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Travis Kelsey eight catches, Isaiah Pacheco got significant carries twelve
averaged about four yards of Carrie Mahomes is moving well.
O line still missing pieces. But this is what I said.
When they beat Baltimore. Everybody said, oh, the Ravens are
beat up. It's like now, it's more than that. It's
more than that. They've got a lot of depth and

(11:44):
they are humming. And I thought it was a B
minus C plus performance for most of it, and they
still crush the Commanders. So J Mack, before we started
the show today, you and I were say, I don't
know if I could have stayed for eighteen innings at
Dodger Stadium, but I think you were getting so many
I mean that game could have ended several I mean
number warning track fly balls multiple times. It took some

(12:08):
great defensive plays. My question today is if you are
a road team. So the Dodgers' bullpen was rested. You know,
they spent three hundred and thirty five million for Yoshi.
He's been worth every penny because that complete game in
Game two, you had a bullpen that was rested.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
You know.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
The Blue Jays, I don't know what they have left.
They're gonna need seven and a half, seven and two
third starting pitching in tonight. They I don't know what
they're gonna do. They lose a star player, their bullpens depleted.
The Dodgers would love Otani to go six to seven tonight,
but I think they could survive if he didn't. So,

(12:48):
you know, if you win, if you win Game three
of the World series. The numbers tell you about a
seventy percent chance of winning the series, but that's just
not a Game three that was incredibly taxing, especially on
the road team. I don't know if the Blue Jays,
I don't know what's left in the tank will find out.

Speaker 7 (13:05):
Yeah, I think we got a baseball guest coming on later.
I would look just mentally, what does a game like
that do you know? Like, I mean, you clearly don't
get home until two in the morning out here, right
you're on a high or you're super low if you're
the Blue Jays. I don't know mentally what that does
for these guys because now you gotta face Otani on
the mound, and we know how good he is, Like
feels like a big, big edge to the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
Yeah, a couple hours, Derek Jeter will stop by our show.

we go the hed hierarchy on a Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
Heard Hierarchy time.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Now go the top ten NFL teams according to College
Number ten.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Well, the Buffalo Bills are five to zero when James
Cook rushes for one hundred yards. A rush for one
hundred yards, Josh Allen only had to throw the ball
nineteen times. I don't think they're very good against the run.
Their pass defense is fine, but they're a very good team.
It's a long season. I like their on line, their

(14:42):
run game, Josh Allen. They could probably use another receiving
piece against the better defenses like Kansas City. But they're
back in the top ten. Number ten, number nine, New
England beat them all. Put New England nine. You know,
New England is the only team since the fifties first
eight games they haven't allowed a running back fifty plus yards,

(15:04):
so Vrabel made him tougher better against the run. And
let's just be totally frank here, Drake may looks like
a top six to seven quarterback in the league. He
may not be, but he's completing seventy five percent of
his throws and his passer ratings one nineteen, so the
numbers say he is. Again, I think they need another weapon.
I like the running back room. They're good enough Hunter

(15:25):
Henry at tight end, but this is about coaching and
an exploding young star at quarterback. Don't think they're a
super Bowl team, but I have him at nine.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
Number eight.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Broncos are a little inconsistent for me. I do think
Sean Payton is coaching Boone Nicks. He wants him to
throw the ball down the field more and sometimes it
gets ugly.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
But here's the numbers you have to think of.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
This team is allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL
and is also has ten more sacks than anybody in
the NFL that travels. Denver's not going anywhere. It's why
I think they're one of the few teams that matches
up with Kansas City. You can't get the Boone Knicks
and they get to your quarterback Denver at eight.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Number seven, Bucks are all beat up.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
I put them at seven mostly because they have a
veteran quarterback in bo Nicks as a kid. They're all
beat up offensively, but they are still one t plus
yards down the field. Baker's the best quarterback in the league.
They have been out gained in four straight games, so
there's a little fools gold when they get into these
winning streaks.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
They're not pretty.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
They're all banged up, but I think we all acknowledge
at number seven fields.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
About right number six the Rams.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
They went and got a corner from Tennessee. I may
have them a little low. Highest overall great and highest
graded offense in the NFL according to PFF. Now they
have one of the last pocket quarterbacks, so if you
can get to Matt Stafford, that's the key.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
And their O line is good. I don't think it's great.
They lead the.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
NFL in big pass plays. Even when Puca was gone.
They brought in a fourth tight end, smart coach, great quarterback.
They don't move the pocket a ton, so sometimes Stafford
if protection pro pass protection regresses that he can feel
a little bit like a sitting duck. But they're allowing
an NFL low ten touchdowns through the season, so it's

(17:15):
just hard to get into the end zone against the Rams.
I have them at six number five the Lions again,
a pocket quarterback. Golf can be a sitting duck at times.
I think the Rams and the Lions have very very
good rosters. I think the Lions have better offensive personnel.
The Rams have better defensive personnel. For their five wins
have come by double digits. They are really special at home,

(17:40):
they're okay on the road, and by the way, their
schedule is pretty weak going forward for the next month,
so they'll keep posting w's Number four Green Bay Jordan Love, folks,
I don't want to hear that he's ascending. He's a
star arm mobility talent, and their defense allowed the fewest

(18:03):
big plays this season. They're just really well coached and
really well run everywhere. They're still really young, they're still
figuring some things out. They still have really clunky halves
of offensive football. But we got to get over the
Jordan Love is rising and Jordan Love is ascending. No not,
he's top five to six, dude. Jordan Love's great period

(18:24):
and the sentence. Number three I don't know what the
heck to do with the Colts only lost to the
Rams and they outplayed them at so far, and they've
gotten better since then, maybe by a touchdown. I mean,
I think teams now are quitting against them. They are
so physically dominant. It's the best offensive line along with Detroit.
I've seen they're mashing people. They're just dominating people. Pittman

(18:48):
and Pears and Warren and Jonathan Taylor. You have to
sign Daniel Jones to an extension. I don't know if
they're the third best team, but all the numbers tell
you they're washing people. It's like physically they're just stepping
on people. I'll put them at three for now. Number

(19:09):
two Philadelphia has got more big game experience. AJ Brown
didn't play shocker best performance of the year. I think
Philadelphia gets a not over Indy because they've got more
guys that have played in big games, and as we
get closer to Thanksgiving, that stuff matters.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
So they're six and zero.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
When Saquon Barkley gets fifteen plus touches, I have a
recommendation give Saquon Barkley fifteen plus touches.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Philiate two.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
Number one, I don't even think Kansas City played that
great last night. I thought it was a B minus
C plus performance and they still won by three touchdowns.
I've said this a few weeks ago. They haven't had
this kind of offensive talent. Rashi Rice Clear number one, Worthy, Clever,
number two, Juju perfect three, Travis Kelcey Gray excellent, tight

(19:56):
end production, O line still missing people, but again one
of the reasons. I have Casey one in Philly two
big game experience. That stuff matters on fourth down, that
stuff matters in the red zone. I have Seattle at
eleven the Chargers at twelve.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Again. I don't know what in the world.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
To do with the Colt. I don't see him in
the Super Bowl. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Herd weekdays and Noone Eastern nin am Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Well, it's the players, the fans, and even the broadcasters
are running on fumes.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Eighteen innings.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
A guy who's been around iconic moments his whole life,
Derek Jeter, five time World Series Champ, fourteen time All Star.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
That was crazy. You know, it's really interesting.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
I made this point about you several times over the
last ten years that even great baseball players, their numbers
often go down in the postseason facing better pitching. It's
harder yours didn't you were the same guy. So Freddie
Freeman's got that ability to just he's Freddie Freeman in
Atlanta in la regular season? Is there a trick to it?

(21:15):
Because you're facing better pitching, you're in high leverage situations.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
I mean, the crowd's on you.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
How did you like just you were just the same
Derek Jeter, I feel that with Freeman.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Is there a secret way to do it?

Speaker 9 (21:30):
I don't know if there's a secret way to do it, Colin.

Speaker 10 (21:32):
I think it's more of just approaching every game like
it's a regular season game. You know, you have to
pride yourself on consistency, and it's not like you show
up in a World Series against say, oh my goodness,
all of a sudden, now I'm playing in a World Series.

Speaker 9 (21:45):
Let me try to do more. You know.

Speaker 10 (21:47):
Freddy's an unbelievable hitter, you know, And I guess the
best thing I can say about Freddie is I'm more
surprised when he doesn't come through as opposed of when
he does. Because you've seen him do it so much
over and over and over regular season, postseason, it doesn't matter,
and he does. He's the same person. You know, he's

(22:09):
got the same demeanor. You know, he's had twenty five
at bats last night, whether he got out or he
hit a home run. I mean, it's the same approach
when he's in the box. And that's what I appreciate
about Freddy.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
You know, Derek, your great Yankee teams had this ability
to take a really good player, like a Scott Brocius,
good player and rise to be a star in the moment.
You know, there was Pasada and you and Mariano, and
you know, there was a core four or five guys,
Hall of Fame guys, and then there were good guys
that got great in moments. We Will Klein was at

(22:44):
Tacoma with a seven ERA and last night he goes
four innings. And I make this argument it's almost like
when you are a good athlete, but you're around great athletes,
you do rise.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
And there were guys those Yankee teams.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
I mean, I'm watching Will Klein and I'm on the internet,
and I'm like.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
Who's Will Climb?

Speaker 1 (23:06):
What do you make of a guy that at Triple
A released multiple times doing that. Do you do have
you seen that guy's rise in the moment?

Speaker 9 (23:15):
A hundred percent?

Speaker 10 (23:16):
How about how about Will Clin though I mean he
wasn't even on the roster. He's in Arizona for the
last few weeks, never pitched this many innings before in
his career. He's out there on the mound and he
does what he does in a World Series game, pivotal
World Series game. So yeah, I know, I know what
you're saying, Colin. A lot of times, you know, when
you're with a group that has had a lot of

(23:37):
experience and a lot of success, like the Los Angeles Dodgers,
you know that you don't have to do too much yourself.
You just want to play your part and you want
to do your job. You know, you don't put everything
on your own shoulders. And I think when you think
small like that, good things happen. So we've had players,
you know, like you mentioned, that may have not had

(23:57):
too much success with other teams, and then they come
and they join our our group, and then all of
a sudden, you see him come up with these big
moments because they know that. Look, I'm surrounded by people
who are professional and consistent and get the job done. Therefore,
all I have to do is play my small part.
But let me say this, he played more than a
small part last night. I mean that was that was
fun to watch. Oh so you got you got Dodgers

(24:21):
fans googling will Climb all morning today.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Yeah. During the game, I'm like, who is?

Speaker 1 (24:27):
And I saw it. I grew up by Tacoma. I'm
like the coma Rainiers. That's why I was a kid.
Otani's now going to pitch. And you know the amazing
thing about Otani, Well you can see the gifts, right.
I don't think sometimes people understand how emotionally draining pitching is, right,
Like it's it's the focus. I mean that you go

(24:48):
to the laptop, it's like, what's this guy?

Speaker 7 (24:50):
Like?

Speaker 4 (24:50):
What's this guy here?

Speaker 1 (24:52):
And when you watch Otani, are you more blown away
by the stuff of the plate or the pitching?

Speaker 9 (25:02):
Absolutely both.

Speaker 10 (25:03):
Look, I mean starting pitchers, you pitch every fifth day
for a reason, Right, you have four days off because
you have to go through your routine. You have to
get your body ready. You got you to get your
arm in shape. And for him to be able to look,
I mean he's arguably the best offensive player in baseball,

(25:23):
along with with Aaron Judge and everyone seeing Vladimir Guerrero.
So you can make a case for him being the
best offensive player and pitching wise. I mean, what he's
been able to do. If you just take away everything offensively,
you know he could be the best pitcher in the game.
But then to have him do both, I can't. I

(25:46):
don't get it. I don't even know how to answer
the question. But it's like he's we're joking about it
last night. It's like he's the six foot two little
leaguer that's twelve years old that absolutely dominates in little
league and he's doing at the major league level.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
You know, it's interesting. I like starting pick.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
My theory has always been, does it could be football
or basketball or baseball, end of the game's biggest moments.
Have your best players nothing against bullpens. I want my starter.
I want Garrett Cole. I don't care if it was
Verlander in his prime, Yoshi, I don't want a bullpen.
Baseball's changed. It's a bullpen sport. Do you like it?

(26:27):
I like my guy, I like a guys and a moments.
What do you make of the explosion of bullpens and
a batter an inning.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
What do you make of it?

Speaker 9 (26:38):
I think it's hard.

Speaker 10 (26:39):
Look, the Dodgers showed it last season because they pretty
much rode their bullpen to a championship. But that's hard
to do, especially when you start playing these long series,
because the more times you see the bullpen, the better
you're going to be offensively. I think this type of
baseball that the Dodgers are playing right now, eyeing on

(27:00):
their starters, you know, this is sort of a throwback
to when you know, we had Clemmons and we had
Pettit and Mussina and Cci, guys that would go out
there and they were expected to throw seven eight innings
and then you go to Mariano and it's game over.
It is I really enjoy watching this Dodgers team. I
was joking with with Dave Roberts last night and I said,

(27:21):
you look younger. He looks younger because he just sits
back and he relaxes, and he watches his starters and
there's a couple moves with an exception of last night
that was completely a different type of game. But you
sit back, you rely on your starters, and it's fun
to watch. But the Dodgers are peaking. They've peaked at
the right time from you know, a health standpoint and
from a pitching standpoint, and it really is a throwback.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
I thought baseball was at its best and I was
working for another company. It was Red Sox Yankees, and
I used to say, is there was something about old
Yankee Stadium is that it was it moved. It was
almost like a bridge. It moved a little bit when
it got just it felt different. But it was also
the players. Is that the Dodgers now off a championship,

(28:07):
Toronto now backs against the wall. I really think with
the Springer injury and exhausting their bullpen, I'm like, I
don't know if Toronto can come back. But I also
think there is an advantage having been in games like this,
when you would be with the Yankees and you'd play
a really talented team and it was one of those
games that you just won, an ext r inning game

(28:27):
or a highly dramatic game at Yankee Stadium. You won,
You go home, you sleep, you wake up. Did you
feel like driving to the ballpark the next day, did
you feel like.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
This is an edge?

Speaker 1 (28:39):
This is what being a Yankee is because I honestly,
after that game, I think I think last year's Dodgers
this year's I don't know if Toronto's got anything left.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Do you.

Speaker 9 (28:50):
Well, I'd be very careful to count them out.

Speaker 10 (28:52):
You know, Toronto's had their backs against the wall from
you know, a majority of the season. No one thought
they'd win the AO Leaset, no one thought they'd get
to the World Series. They have a very very talented
group that they've overcome adversity. Look, I said it before,
I think the Dodgers have the best team in baseball.
I think they're they're playing well at the right time,
and quite frankly, I think they can play better than

(29:13):
they are right now. And it just goes to show
you how good they are and how balanced they are.
But you know, you play a game like last night,
it's one of those games. If you lose, it's tough, man,
it's a tough pill to swallow because you know, you
always look back and say, wow, we had an opportunity
and this could have changed the series. So we'll see
how Toronto bounces back. But you know, they've been doing

(29:34):
it all year.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
The one of the things I remember years and years
ago somebody asked you you were in a slump, and
you said, you said, man, I don't overthink it.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
I just go in tomorrow. I want to hit the
ball hard. I'm gonna go up and just hit it hard.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Oh, Tawny, he couldn't hit against Milwaukee like he was
struggling until that one profound game. And there are different
guys at different times in the postseason that get into slumps.
How do you compartmentalize in the World Series or an
ALCS If last night you left five runners on last night,
you know, Freddie Freeman the other day on a pop

(30:15):
up made a mistake. It's like, man, you gotta forget
about that. You got to be dialed in. Did you
find it easier or harder in the postseason the World
Series to compartmentalize the moment.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
You draw the caller after two strikeouts.

Speaker 10 (30:30):
I've always thought it was easier, you know, because when
you get to the playoffs, only one thing matters. Only
one thing matters every pitch, every that every situation, you
have a chance to help the team win. So you
don't ever get in the box thinking about what's my
average this series? It's what can I do in this
particular moment. So I always that's why I love playing

(30:51):
in the postseason. I mean, I hit a home run
in two thousand and one, the Mister November home run,
and I think I had one hit in the World
Series is up until that point, but no one remembers
that because every moment you come up, you have a
chance to do something. So I always found that it
was easier. And I think if you put that pressure
on yourself in terms of you know, I haven't done

(31:11):
this or I haven't done that, that's one of it's
sort of snowballs. But if your only focus is each
individual pitch, each at bat, each game, I think it
makes it a little bit easier.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Do you know what you hit in the World Series.
It's insane. This is insane.

Speaker 9 (31:25):
Oh I know, No.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Three twenty one. That's an insane batting average in the
World Series because.

Speaker 9 (31:34):
You're facing it was fun.

Speaker 10 (31:35):
Yeah, I mean, those are those are the you know,
that's what you dream of, You dream of playing in
the World Series. You know, this is what it's all all.
This is what fun is about. And I mean this
is what you when you're in Little League. You you
sit down and you're in the backyard and you're dreaming
that you're up in the World Series.

Speaker 9 (31:53):
So look, I was. Fortunately I played in a lot
of World series.

Speaker 10 (31:56):
I played in seven World series, man, So you know,
I've had a lot of it bad, but I just
love it. If there's one thing I do miss, I
don't miss playing the game.

Speaker 9 (32:04):
I don't.

Speaker 10 (32:05):
There hasn't been a day since i've retired where I've
missed playing the game. But if you kid, if I
could wake up and play in a World series, I'd
do it.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
You know.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
I hope you're gonna get it. Are you gonna get
a nap in here before the ballpark? You don't have
to play short tonight.

Speaker 10 (32:19):
I'm gonna try, man, I have no voice. We're gonna
see what happens. I'm just the only thing I'm hoping
for is nine innings. That's all I can do today?

Speaker 4 (32:27):
So am I actullently? So am I?

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (32:29):
Right?

Speaker 4 (32:30):
All right? Great seeing you, Derek?

Speaker 9 (32:32):
You Someboddy appreciate it, all.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
Right, the great Derek Jeter. Yeah, that's okay. We're all
rooting for nine innings. That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
That is when you three twenty What was Derek's career
average about three h nine three ten to hit better
in a World Series, Like I.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Think some guys are just built for it. I think
Freddie Freeman.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
It's like Derek Jeter said, you're surprised when he doesn't
deliver what two men on like, some guys are just.

Speaker 4 (32:55):
Built for it.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Some guys, I mean, I always felt Michael Jordan a
free throw line.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
So I was close. Jerrek Jeters career averages three ten,
he had better than that in the World Series. That something.
Jmack with a news turn on the news. This is
the Herdline news.

Speaker 7 (33:16):
All right, let's start with those Baltimore Ravens who are
playing games with.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
The injury report. Kind of sort of joking, but Lamar
Jackson is.

Speaker 7 (33:24):
Expected to play Thursday against the Dolphins. John Harball said
he's very confident in his quarterback returning to action, claiming.

Speaker 4 (33:32):
Last week's injury report was just a mistake.

Speaker 7 (33:34):
Colin from the veteran coach, Lamar is a active, actually
a fully participant in practice this week, that's what they're saying.
So Ravens minus seven and a half in Miami Thursday night.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
I don't want to do it again.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
So last week and Monday night football, I took the
Chiefs and I took four favorites and my favorites went five.
And oh this weekend I missed it an over under.
There's one over under I like this week. But I'm
looking today. I'm liking a lot of favorites again. There's
two underdogs I like, and there's there's four favorites I like.

Speaker 7 (34:15):
The dogs have been barking on Thursday this season. Obviously,
we saw the Bengals last week. It's just tough to
make a case from Miami. Man, they're not good despite
that win over the Falcons. By the way, can I
can I just say I know that you love the
Falcons so much, so deeply. Ever every season you tell
me avoid them, like no Drake London, no Penix. They

(34:35):
couldn't do anything. So are the Dolphins suddenly good or did.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
They just have a great situation last week?

Speaker 1 (34:41):
Well, here's why I like the Ravens as a favorite. Yeah,
so the band's back together, so like they don't have
any time to waste, like that game Sunday with Tyler Huntley,
like they had to win it. The Bears didn't. So
Baltimore is one of the few teams in the league.
They've got to win the next five games. They can't
mess around with this stuff. So my take is Miami

(35:04):
comes in feeling good, but to your point, they had
some help. And I think Baltimore is playing hair on fire.
I think Baltimore's going to roll Miami.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
I can't disagree with you there.

Speaker 7 (35:17):
All right, let's move on to interesting subplot here. The
Minnesota Vikings Colin have a big game Sunday at the
Lions is a huge game on Fox. It feels like
season saving time. Here's the big story. So Carson Wentz
had been filling in for JJ McCarthy. We've now got
word that Carson Wentz had a torn labrum other issues,

(35:37):
but it happened two weeks ago, so they were playing
and starting Carson Wentz despite these injuries. Of course, they
get so bad now he's out for the season with
shoulder surgery. JJ McCarthy is going to start this week.
But interestingly, he was the emergency quarterback colin the last
two weeks, so there's some speculation.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
We'll wait a second.

Speaker 7 (36:00):
If McCarthy was the emergency quarterback and the Vikings knew
Wentz had a torn labroom, why didn't.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
They just start McCarthy, Like.

Speaker 7 (36:08):
If he's good enough to be the emergency shouldn't he
have just started for Wentz And it's becoming a thing
in Minnesota. I'm being told via text that essentially the
emergency quarterback essentially goes in and just hands the ball off.
He's not throwing the ball because he's not healthy. So
maybe McCarthy was hurt. Is McCarthy playing this week? He's
starting this week? But to go from emergency for two

(36:30):
weeks to starting, did he magically get healthy?

Speaker 4 (36:33):
I don't know how. You don't like the Lions this week? Wow,
it's tough. Tough to not lay it with the Lions
at home.

Speaker 7 (36:39):
Now, Kevin O'Connell in a you know, they gotta have
it game?

Speaker 4 (36:43):
Can they show up? I mean, the defense does not
look good.

Speaker 7 (36:45):
They got destroyed in by Justin Herbert and company.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
I don't know Colin. Essentially, JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 7 (36:52):
Has one good quarter in the two games he's played
in his career, and that was the fourth quarter against
your bears.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
Remember that one?

Speaker 1 (37:00):
Uh, Detroit, they're not my bears anymore or my bears earlier?

Speaker 7 (37:04):
Is that because you're bashing Caleb Williams this week, they're
not for turrashing.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
I'm offering, yes, I'm contextualizing.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
I'm not bashing.

Speaker 7 (37:13):
Yeah, okay, fine, final story, Colin, Yeah, here we go.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
It's Wemby time. I know you were watching last night.
Look at this three sixty lay the seven five Wemby. Oh,
look at just erasing shots at the rim, Colin.

Speaker 7 (37:28):
The Spurs are four and oh Wemby had twenty four
and fifteen. Didn't have to play much last night because
the uh who's at the Raptors.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
Yeah, they see it. Look at Wemby in transition.

Speaker 1 (37:38):
They're starting five Stefan Castle. They're starting Five's good. I
don't know about their bench, but they're starting five is good.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (37:45):
With the window, Spurs are now four O their best
start in eight years. And uh, you know, I don't know, man,
I think Weebin Yama.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
We're talking first team All NBA. Well that's how good.
I mean, he's made such a freaking leap. Look at
these numbers.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
So Yo Kitsch is the best player in the league.
My take is Wemby will surpass Luca at some point
because he so has so much dexterity and presence on
the defensive end. I mean, Vixer can do more than
Luca can do. Luke can give you thirty eight. But
he's not doing much in the defensive end.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
I mean, he's.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Almost at five blocks a game. So let's sea so
Yo Kitsch is the best player in the game to
this moment. Luca's number two, but Wemby will probably be
two in an hour.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
Yiannis would be four. Oh, okay, Giannis for it. I
guess I'll give you that. Okay, who's six.

Speaker 7 (38:42):
Well, Anthony Edwards is hurt right now. Lebron's hurt right now,
Tatum's hurt right now. Leak's got a lot of injuries.
It's certainly not your boy, Cooper Flag. It's not Anthony Davis.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
Yeah, I think you're right. Steph.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
By the way, is Anthony Davis. I'm just gonna throw
this out there. You see he put on some weight.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
He yeah, they're calling.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:01):
I don't want to fat shame anyone, but just he
looks heavy on a couple.

Speaker 9 (39:04):
Hey.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Yeah, you know, I had a busy summer eating in Dallas.
I guess I haven't been in Dallas in a few years, but.

Speaker 9 (39:10):
The food is good there.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
Yeah, ribbed steaks everywhere. Luca gained weight in Dallas.

Speaker 7 (39:15):
Remember, they started to fat shame him and now he's
all skinny out here in La eating avocado toast and everything.
I mean, listen, they're saying, you look like you may
have put on a few pounds since moving to the Midwest.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
I don't know. I'm gonna tell you something. Eating's good
out here, very good. J Mack with a new Well.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
That's the news.

Speaker 9 (39:36):
And thanks for stopping by the herd Line.

Speaker 4 (39:39):
That was very nice of Derek Jeter to stop by.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
He did not have to go on our show today
and he's working on about thirty five minutes sleep, so
I appreciate that
