(00:22):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. All right, welcome back, hour two.
It is a Monday. We are live in Los Angeles.
Beautiful weather in Chicago was eighty flu In here it
was seventy five, So Chicago weather, you know, it's always better,
but nonetheless it was.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
We've had some great weather in America.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
We have a long summer, which generally means a harsher wind,
right thing.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Friends out here, you sure you went to the Chargers
game yesterday.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
The yet very friendly fans. Chargers were rolling and your
boy Quinton Johnson fumbles in the game, totally flipping.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
No, it's it was amazing some of these games this weekend.
How about I mean, we haven't talked about it. UCLA
beating Penn State. That's the biggest win for UCLA. The
last time they won a game like that was Josh
Rosen beating a and m how about like forty four
forty one shootout?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
That was a wild game.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Man, James Franklin, is he still employed by Ben State?

Speaker 1 (01:21):
I know it's going undefended him for a long time.
Here we go, it's Colin right, Colin wrong in a Monday,
and here we go where Colin was right. I told
you the Eagles may not be solvable. Folks, Saquon Barkley,
you're not getting a yard before he's getting hit. I
think Nick Sirianni is very coordinator dependent. Aj Brown, mister

(01:41):
invisible forty three total yards. Saquon had six carries all game.
Not only does coaching matter, I've been preaching this, coordinators matter.
Look at the Niners with Robert Sola and a bunch
of young guys and Fred Warner. This is not a
player's issue in Philly. It's a coordinator issue.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Where Colin was raw.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Well, the best football coach in the world is Jim Harball.
Stick with that, but boy, that didn't look like it yesterday.
Ten penalties, that's after last week having fourteen against the Giants. Listen,
they don't have their offensive coordinators. Justin Herbert is in
big trouble. But if Kansas City wins tonight, and I
think they will. The Chiefs, the Broncos, and the Chargers
will all be knotted up at three to two in

(02:25):
the AFC West. I know they're injury plague, but the
Chargers look directionless as of now. Where Colin was right,
I picked New England to make the playoffs. I said
they would be the double the win total team and
they're three and two and face the Saints, the Titans,
and the Browns coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Mike Frable is one of.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
The smartest coaches in the league, and I think, listen
the last four starts. Drake May's got six cuddies in
one pick, so, like a lot of young quarterbacks, he's
got to clean some stuff up. But this is what
I thought they would be the Jets. The Dolphins were
circling the drain without a real culture. I knew Vrabel
would get it right very fast. I think he's even

(03:06):
ahead of schedule. Where Colin was wrong, Raiders are one
and four and I thought they would be a solid
offensive team. And I'm not a huge fan of Geno Smith,
but I didn't think they'd be thirtieth in scoring. Gino's
been awful, The defense didn't have any sacks yesterday, which
is you know that's raiders usually can pressure the quarterback.

(03:29):
Gino Smith's comeback story. It's not going to be Darnold
or Baker or Daniel Jones. He's not that good. Second
worst point differential in the NFL. I thought with Chip
Pete and Gino, they would be a viable team capable
of beating anybody in their division. And I'm not sure
if they're capable of winning over the next month. Where

(03:49):
Colin was right, Miami Blew was seventeen. Nothing lead to Carolina.
This goes back the hipster head coach, zero toughness, zero culture,
and I think you lose games late when you don't
know what you are. You can have talent, what are
they And I said Mike Vrabel his schemes are toughness.
This team, I never ever know quite what they are

(04:13):
outside of really fast at wide receiver.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
So I mean think about this.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
They were out gained on the ground by Carolina two
hundred and thirty nine yards to nineteen. They are the
opposite of the Patriots under Vrabel.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Where Colin was raw.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, I got a little over dramatic. I overreacted when
I said the Lions' new coordinators could be has Matt
spill Yeah, I was wrong. Jared Goff has he thrown
an incompletion In the last couple of weeks. He's completed
like seventy five percent of their throws. Listen upstairs. They
got too many good players, best backfield, best offensive line.

(04:52):
They've won the last four games like a college team
by sixteen points. Johnny Martin is calling a smart game,
and it goes back to something that you have to
believe in. Dan Campbell created the culture and this general
manager in this front office. They do not miss on
a lot of draft picks. They may go in the
trade deadline and get a corner. Keep your eyes on

(05:13):
the Detroit Lions getting some secondary help at the trade deadline.
Rams and Lions, keep your eye on that.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
I said the Yankees are a good team, but they're
not great because they're so uneven. They have been blown
out twice by Toronto. They have an average bullpen, they
strike out way too much. They're completely home run dependent,
and Aaron Judge and John Carlos Stanton are great players,
but in the postseason you don't get as many bad pitches.
They don't play small ball. The Dodgers have a stack roster,

(05:44):
but can play small ball and grind out at bats.
This is a good team, but everybody bangs on Aaron Boone.
This is an uneven roster. They've surrendered twenty three runs
in two games. What is a manager supposed to The
Yankees are a good team, but they're too uneven to
be great. Where Colin was raw, well, my Penn State

(06:09):
Texas meet for the National championship prediction, I'm gonna go
with not gonna happen. Ucla played a nearly flawless first
three quarters and drew Aller and arch Manning that were
at very high profile quarterbacks. Arch is really struggling and
drew Aller. Not a lot of juice, Nico Iamaliava. Let's

(06:30):
give him credit. We were all beating up on that kid.
UCLA's coaches, Jerry Neuheisel, leaned into his athletic ability. So
the Texas offense and the Penn State defense we thought
could be great or a mess. Where Colin was right,
where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Heard Hierarchy, I'm no Go.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
The top ten NFL teams according to College Number.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Ten most underrated team in the league. I've been on
it for a month as a Colt. Should have beaten.
The Rams lead the NFL in point differential, few at sacks,
surrendered most efficient scoring offense. I mean, they barely had
the ball against the Raiders and they drop a forty burger.
Their offensive line slowed down the Rams defensive front. They've
got a ceiling. It's Daniel Jones. They've got a ceiling.
But they're gonna end up hosting a playoff game and

(07:53):
they're gonna get somebody like Kansas City or Denver. And
I'm telling you right now, you don't want to play
this Teamnathan Taylor, behind that old line, behind that play calling,
behind Warren and Pittman, and this is a good team.
This is a good roster Colts at ten, number nine.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Here's what worries me about the Rams.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
They are very Puka Nikua reliant on offense, and the
problem is both they're running backs. Blake Krum and Kyron
Williams have ball security issues and McVeagh didn't trust them,
so that's not going away. They have got it develop
tight end and Devonte Adams fast. Yes, their offense leads
the NFL in yards for play at six point four.

(08:37):
They're a very good team. But I gotta watch them
the next two weeks. They had they had that Niners
game and blew it and the Colts out played in Rams.
At nine, number eight, I think Kyle Shanahan is having
his best year as a coach. I mean they don't
have Purdy, a you, Kittle, Jennings, Nick Bosa. They're three
and zero in the road. Mac Jones looks like a

(08:58):
pro bowler. This is great eight coaching. Now they're the
only team averaging forty yard forty passes a game. Now,
think about that with Mac Jones. There's no substitute teacher here.
They're asking Mac to throw it forty times a game.
Christian McCaffrey touching it more than I want him to
cross your fingers on his health. But coaching matters, and
Shanahan could be coach of the year right now. He's

(09:20):
coaching his butt off. Number seven. Bills don't look right.
They just defensively can't stop the run. I don't worry
about the offense. I don't, but they just don't have
that force, that jet fuel they've had in recent years.
They can't stop the run. And I just when I

(09:41):
watch them against New England, I'm like, boy, New England
closed the gap kind of quickly, didn't they. I thought
New England was gonna get there in about it another
three or four games against the Bills. So I have
them at seven. Number six, don't.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Worry about Green Bay.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Can we stop? With a Jordan Love criticism? Eight touchdowns,
one picking, one hundred and thirteen passer rating. They're a
young team that can't figure out a way to close
out inferior teams. Twice Seattle's the second youngest team. Seattle's
thrown games away against the Niners and Buccaneers. Young teams
struggle in close games until they figure out how to win.

(10:17):
Mike is having a year. The schedule. Get Carolina's coming up,
the Bengals Arizona. They're gonna go on a heater. They
are just fine. Green Bay at six. Number five, listen
the Chiefs. They're good. Better team. Last night seven point
six yards of play. A team that had averaged seven
point five yards of play had won thirty three straight games.

(10:39):
Mahomes threw a pick six because he did not see
Devin Lloyd.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
He didn't see him. Mahomes is great, unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Keep your eye when Rashi Rice comes back, Brishard Smith,
the young player out of Miami, Worthy Kelsey. This wide
receiving corps is going to get really good. Really, they
had a bad pick six. This team is good. Situationally,
they're outstanding. They're great when they get down to the

(11:07):
red zone. I don't buy it. If you're selling stock
on Kansas City, I am buying all of it today.
Number four Philadelphia, Listen. You can't be twenty nineteen yards
per play and be a top two or three team.
I don't care about their roster. They've got an offensive
coordinator issue now. Once they get into the red zone

(11:28):
because of the tush push, it's pretty fearsome.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
And they don't you know. I mean, Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Most pass attempts by any quarterback without a pick. He
doesn't make a lot of mistakes, but they are struggling
to get their best players the ball.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
That is a coaching issue.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Aj Brown needs thirteen targets, Barkley needs thirteen to fifteen carries,
get six.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
This past weekend, Affiliate.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
Four Number three.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Denver two combined losses four points. Denver's is good. We
all know the good rosters in this league. Nobody just
mentions Denver. They lead the NFL in sacks, the number
two scoring defense. No team in the league does a
better job of protecting their quarterback and getting to the
yours phone Nicks never get sacked five times all year,
and bone Nicks is a way better athlete than anybody

(12:18):
wants to admiss. And now they face Denver faces six
straight teams without a winning record, so watch out. Denver
is getting better by the week. We picked him to
beat Philly and Philly and they did.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
Number two I'm gonna give it.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
To Tampa folks going to Seattle and putting on that
offensive clinic in Mecca Agbuka folks, we have a star period.
We got an offensive rookie of the year. Baker Mayfield.
Stills a chip on his shoulder, but he's using it
as fueled to get him fired up. He's not reckless.
He's not throwing interceptions. He's played, he's always been a

(12:55):
smart kid. He's playing very smart football. And they're doing
it without Bucky Irving and Mike Evan. So this team's
doing that not fully loaded Tampa at two number one.
I don't think the NFL has a great team, but
the NFL does have a complete offense O line, running back, room,
tight end, wide receiver, quarterback. Detroit's offense is absolutely devastating

(13:23):
and it's built to beat really superstar quarterbacks. Were too
good quarterbacks, I mean Jared Goff right now, it is
pitching catch. It looks like a seven on seven summer drill.
And this is what they're doing that they haven't done
in previous years. Second in sacks, third in takeaways. Their
defense is not great, but they're taking the ball away.

(13:43):
I do not think we have a great team right
now in the league. But I do think Detroit offensively
is about as good as you can be in twenty
twenty five. With an expensive quarterback and a rigid cap.
That's about as good as an offense could look. That
is my Herd hierarchy. Jacksonville at eleven, that was a

(14:04):
ridiculous win. Kansas City's better.

Speaker 5 (14:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
We bring in Chris Simms on the show pretty regularly,
and then there's Matt Simms. He's working at the other place.
But you know who I relate to is Phil Simms,
because now we're both at the age where we wake
up and we go to the pill closet and the
vitamin closet. And Phil Simms, host of SIMS Complete on
the Believe Network, is joining us fifteen years. We just

(14:36):
talked about nad magnesium and Omega three pills during the
break and I've never felt better about my decisions.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
You and I do the the same life. I just
go off a little more than you.

Speaker 6 (14:47):
I mean, we were talking like two old guys sitting
there going, hey, I take this in the morning and that,
and I'm gonna just tell everybody out there, whatever I'm taking,
it's working. Okay. Does that feel good? Not sleeping? Great?

Speaker 2 (14:57):
There you go, same thing.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
So fifteen quarterbacks right now right have one hundred plus
passer rating. Two years ago it was six.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Now.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Some of it phil is because I think there's a
lot more good offensive coaching, There's a lot of sharp
young guys out there. And I also think everybody plays zone,
so it's a little throw to a spot. You lived
in a world where it was man to man coverage.
Now it's zone and you just throw to a spot.
And a lot of these young guys are strong and
throw to a spot. But when you look at your

(15:30):
era and this era of quarterback play, do you see
a gap? I mean, does it feel easier today with
some of the rule changes.

Speaker 6 (15:38):
Well, I think yeah. The first thing you say, throw
it to a spot. Everybody's playing zone and they want
to keep their eyes on the quarterback in the backfield
to stop the big runs down the field. And if
you play zone in the NFL against the quarterbacks that
we're seeing out there now, you say fifteen I would
probably say more they're gonna pick you apart, and that's
what defense is won. We're gonna let you come the passes,

(16:00):
but we're going to run up tackle you and you
have to go with long drives, sustain a lot of
plays to score. That's what you see in these quarterbacks.
They just keep getting better every year. And to answer
your question, Colin my era that I played in, I
don't know what to say. This whole group that plays now,
they are remarkably different and better than what we put

(16:25):
on the field, I think most of the time.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
So I love watching the old films with you and
Parcels and it's just that confrontational stuff. It's funny. It
rights itself. But Philadelphia right now is having an identity crisis.
They don't know what they are. Back with Parcels, did
you guys even use the word identity or is that
one of those words like narrative that everybody uses, or

(16:49):
did you just like, listen this every week was a
different game plan or did Bill believe in, Hey, this
is what we are, this is what we're always going
to be. We're not going to deviate. Oldelphia right now
doesn't know what the hell they are. They're a run
team and they can't figure it out. Again, go back
to your six years Giant Super Bowls. Dominant team was

(17:10):
identity discussed.

Speaker 6 (17:12):
Never never, I don't know, you know, hell, you know.
These player only meetings, I will say this, we did
a couple of them. I hated them. I didn't pay attention.
I'm like, please get it over with, let's get out
of here. Because the guy that set the table, the
guy that walked in there every day, Bill Parcells, that
was the player's meeting, and okay, whatever he said, we

(17:35):
didn't have to have a player's meeting because he was
going to take care of himself and he knew when
to do that. And so when I see the players
doing it, then I go, okay, I believe it works
for them, if that's what it is. But I would
prefer Nick Sirianni get in front of the team and going, hey,
all right, enough of this, let's do this. We're gonna
move on. And if you don't want to be part

(17:56):
of it, good, I'll get somebody else and.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Let it go.

Speaker 6 (18:00):
So yeah, I mean, gosh, almighty, you've won so many games,
what is it? Twenty out of twenty one and here
we are having players meetings and things like that. It's
just Philadelphia. It's different, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
So there are quarterbacks and coaching relationships. You know, the
creative gene of Andy Reid and Mahomes is such a
good fit because Mahomes is a creative type. And then
there are sometimes it just works despite the fact that
the coach and the quarterback may not see eye to eye.
I think big Ben and Tomlin it just worked because

(18:34):
big Ben was so damn talented. But I look at
Shanahan and outside of Trey Lance, I mean, Kyle Shab
was a pro bowler. He won with Brian Hoyer. Mac
Jones was done. Mac Jones now is unbelievable. So when
you look at Kyle Shanahan, what did I say, Ryan?
What named I screw up Matt Shoab. When you look

(18:59):
at Kyle Shanahan, he virtually takes every quarterback he's had.
Garoppolo has disappeared since he left. What's the secret, sauce?
What do you think he does? The language he speaks
to touch, the feel he has. What is it with Kyle?
Because I'd argue today phil no coach is winning with

(19:20):
lest they have sixty percent of their starters, their playmakers
are all hurt.

Speaker 6 (19:24):
Yes, hey, it comes down to this. You talk about
Mac Jones. People ask me, hey, whatever all this howdy play?
I said, Yeah, Kyle Shanahan gave him the mac Jones offense.
That's what he did. Who's my quarterback. I'm going to
adapt to him and call and design plays that fit him.
And everything they did in that game against the Los

(19:45):
Angeles Rams, it was right out of the book. Hey,
Mac Jones specially, he's a big guy, can stand in there,
he can get rid of the football quick, He's a
good decision maker. Everything that's good for him Kyle Shanahan
put into that game plan. If it had been Rock
Perdy playing that game, we had seen some rollouts, deeper drops, moving,
and many more throws deep down the field. Probably. But

(20:07):
that's the one thing about Kyle. You can go through
all the quarterbacks that he's had, and when they get
a chance to play, basically they all play well. So
that's not luck. That's him designing plays and knowing how
to call it.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
So I made this argument earlier that I'm okay, many
of our great quarterbacks have been a little reckless at times. Now,
Aaron Rodgers was one of the first where you got
the upside without the interceptions. But Nameth and Elway and
Peyton threw a lot of picks and Eli did U that, Yeah,
I mean, but I mean. Baker Mayfield has the most

(20:43):
turnover worthy plays so far in the league, according to PFF.
And my take is, well, that's Baker's style. He plays
through his chest. He's a big emotion guy. I think
if you try to change Baker, you lose who Baker is.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
What do you make of him as a quarterback?

Speaker 6 (21:02):
Well, first off, they're not trying to change him down
in Tampa Bay. I watch his games because I enjoy
him and because he is a fun watch. And let
me tell you, he is an elite thrower of the football.
He throws that damn thing exactly where he wants it
to go, and his decision making is pretty good. But
I like the fact that he's aggressive because he can be.

(21:23):
I'll tell you a quick story that just personifies who
Baker Mayfield is. Somebody asked Todd Bowles, how would you
describe Baker Mayfield? And Todd Bowles took a quick second
break and he goes, I would say Baker will you
walk across the room there and stick your face in
the fan?

Speaker 4 (21:41):
He would do it, And that's who he is.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
He's just tough as hell, resilient, can really throw the football,
and he's great for the team because he doesn't eat
up a lot of space about Baker Baker Baker like
some quarterbacks do with their teams. He's part of the group.
The players love him and Tampa Bay, whatever he's doing,
would they just keep doing it because it's going well?

Speaker 1 (22:04):
All right, let's get a little update your thoughts on
Jackson Dart, the new Giants guy. He's got to look
he's kind of cool looking and he's got a decent arm.
I don't what do you make of what you've seen
so far?

Speaker 6 (22:15):
Yeah, he is cool. I gotta admit I was down
at training camp a lot. I watched him every day
really close, not every day, but almost.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
And he didn't have bad days.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
He threw the ball well. And I think the one
thing that I made a mistake on until I found
it late right before the draft, I was watching his
more of his tapes and everything to see what I
really thought about even all of a sudden, I went, wow,
I have underestimated his mobility, and his mobility's been a
big part of these first two games. And what I

(22:45):
like about it is he's reading the defense whatever, trying
to throw it, but if the gap is open in
front of him, it's straight down the middle every time,
and he's been really good at that. They have a
chance to meet to New Orleans Saints. I thought they
were the better team. But the mistake, that's what you're
going to get with the young quarterback. You don't pull
him back too much. You just kind of go all right,

(23:06):
settle down a little bit, but you want to keep
being aggressive because being aggressive gives you a chance to
be a really good quarterback too.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
So when you were with a Giant, so was Bill Belichick,
and I know he was on the defensive side. I
never thought he was a college football guy. I think
college football is a little more joyful, the bands, the alumni,
the parents.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Bill's a pro guy.

Speaker 6 (23:28):
To me.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
You know, I never got it.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Are you surprised it's been this big of a kind
of a mess so far.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
Well, I think we were together thirteen years with the Giants.
He came in in seventy nine, I think the same
year I did. But yeah, I listen I'm very surprised.
I thought he would go down there and kind of
show college football there's a little different way to do this. Well,
he did it a different way, but it's not working.
And you know, I, hey, look, you don't spend thirteen

(23:59):
years with the guy did a lot of great things
for me, said things to me, talk to me when
I needed it, and all that stuff, and taught me too.
But so I feel bad, and I hope somehow, Honestly,
I just hope when the year's over, I hope he
decides to do something else, because man, it's almost impossible
to watch the games. It's that bad.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Yeah, it really is, you know.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
And I'm sure you've been asked this before because on
the speakers circuit, the Giants have had a really bad
ten year run. New York Sports right now is a
bit of a has Met spill.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
That's bad.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
And you can always point fingers. I mean, the Yankees
have been very patient and they've had some success. If
I pointed to you and said, okay, give me a
paragraph on what's gone wrong with the Giants, coaches, quarterbacks,
GM's ownership. Because it listen, when I worked at the

(24:55):
other place, I always said they were the accounting firm
of the NFL. Quiet, they didn't make a lot of noise.
They were well run. They were never flashy, but you
knew the numbers were right. They just they were smart.
Something has gone haywire because I always thought the Jets
were squarely, but the Giants were big blue. They would

(25:15):
figure it out. Phil, It has been a rough, rough stretch.
Where do you point the fingers?

Speaker 6 (25:23):
Well, you know, you always start with this player acquisitions.
You know, the draft. You hope it goes well. There's
so much into it, and you know, I don't know
how these guys have great drafts sometimes because you just
never know about players, even though you do all the research.
But the draft hasn't been great. But these last couple
of years, the guys that they've been drafting, they're playing
and actually doing pretty well. So I really don't have

(25:47):
an answer for that why it's not going well, But
I do look at other teams they're having success, and
what they have is just a group of stars that
are all in and they're connected to the coach and
it's hard and tough, and that's who they are that'll
never go away from football. And if you want to win,
you got to be physical, you got to be tough,

(26:08):
and you've got to be smart. And I'm not saying
the Giants aren't that, but maybe the personnel has not
given them that chance. So I'm going to go to
the game tonight and I think they'll play the Philadelphia
Eagles close, and I won't walk out of the stadium
shocked if they win. But I'll be happy because I'm
just gonna be honest. I'm gonna root for the Giants.

(26:28):
So yeah, it's unbelievable. Every year I see the draft
all this, I go to training camp and I go,
this might be the year. This is a year.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
And with the lead.

Speaker 6 (26:37):
Neighbors and of course the quarterback and everything, I was
watching the pass rush. I said, man, they got a chance.
And they've had two chances and they lost both of
those games Dallas and down in New Orleans. That changes
a year, Colin. I mean, just think if they beat
Dallas in overtime or beat New Orleans all of a sudden,
we'd be going, hey, look at philm what about the Giants. Man,

(27:00):
they might be in the playoffs. That's how close it is.
I think in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
This just popped into my head.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
You're covering some college football now sims complete on the
Believe Network.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
So we'll wrap it up with this. Your son played
at Texas.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
And I've said this before, of the five toughest jobs
in all of sports in America, quarterback of the Texas
Longhorns is near the top of that list. It is
insane pressure, the donors, the coaching, the culture. It's almost
got an NFL feel in terms of it's in a
cool city. There's a lot of business, there's a lot
of money. It's not your typical rural college where you

(27:36):
can you get a friendly media and everybody's Texas football
is big. It's bigger than a lot of college NFL programs, right,
It's bigger than Jaguars football in Jacksonville. Your son played there.
Arch Manning is really struggling. Take me to the pressure
your Sun felt and that it's just not another college
quarterback job at Texas. It feels almost professional.

Speaker 6 (28:01):
Yeah, you know, I don't know if I could even
answer that question about my son. We never talked about
how you're feeling and all that, And you know, I
always gave words of encouragement, and I not to get
off target here, but I always say to like parents
of quarterbacks that are coming up through high school that
are really good and in the pros, I say to them,

(28:21):
stay with them, be in contact of them as much
as you can to help them through all the hardships
are going to come, because if you don't, it's just
not going to work out well. And I'm not sitting
here going to confession, but you know, I didn't make
that connection with my kids as much as I should have.
I should have been on top of it more. And
you know always say this too. They're eighteen year olds

(28:43):
coming out of high school. What the hell do they know?
They don't know much of nothing right, and so I
should have been there as a parent to give them
more information.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
But with arch.

Speaker 6 (28:53):
Manning, I'll say this. I studied him during the off season.
I loved it everything about him and what I'm seeing now,
I was like, wow, I just I did not see
any of this last year. But I would boil down
to this, just try to relax, whatever it is. But
his throwing is what has caught my attention. It just

(29:14):
hasn't been on target. He rushes throws, his motion looks
like it's changed from what I saw last year, and
I think that's part.

Speaker 4 (29:23):
Of the problem.

Speaker 6 (29:23):
When you call him. When you throw the ball well
and you know where it's going to go, you don't
become a good decision maker. You become great great. You
see it, you believe it, you complete it, and let's
move on. And right now, I just see doubt sometimes
in arch Manning when he's throwing the football.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
That's he's like, oh, I want to complete it.

Speaker 6 (29:44):
You know, when you want to complete him too bad?
It usually doesn't work. So we'll see, you know, more experience,
I will say, he'll kind of fix this and look
a lot better as the year goes along.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
Phil, as always we talk about once every couple of years.
I always loved chatting with you. Great wisdom, and you
look fantastic. I'm not going to say your age. People
can google it, but you look you look really good.

Speaker 6 (30:06):
Well hell, all right, well my wife never tells me that.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yeah, okay, should.

Speaker 6 (30:13):
Hey, you know, listen, I'm looking for interviews, so bring
me on every once in a while. You know, I'd
like to beat it up, you know, And all right,
this would be the last thing I say real quick.
The quarterbacks. I know you like the guy at Oregon
and you know what you should. He's really good. Yes,
and Oregon, if you want to be a good quarterback,
go up there and get taught and run that offense.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
You'll do well.

Speaker 6 (30:35):
But what's coming into the draft this year, it's probably
going to be real.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
There's going to be a lot of them.

Speaker 6 (30:41):
But you know what's coming in the following year behind
them is another damn group. So this quarterback situation, there's
enough quarterbacks to go around for this hole.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
Lead.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
The big thing is can we get coaches to create
a scheme to lead the team, to let these quarterbacks
show who they are? I mean, what happened all of
a sudden. Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold are ours when we
watch them, and they were thrown to the sidewalk a
couple of years ago.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
So there you go, Phil Simms. We will bring you
back on, and I mean it, We're gonna bring you back.
I love this, I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Thanks man.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
It'd be great if you bring me back on and
then pay me. I don't like that.

Speaker 6 (31:17):
Even better.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
We do that.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Fox is doing well. The stock prices up. We got
plenty of cash here.

Speaker 6 (31:25):
All right, Well, thank you thanks for having me on, Colin.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
You bet, Phil simms uh it feels great.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app Let's Blaze It Up,
It Up, It's Collins Blazon, Fuck Seahawks, and check yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Seattle plus one and a half go money line. They're
gonna win this puppy out right. One of five teams
to hold a fourth quarter lead in every game. Even
the games they lost, they could have won. Number two
scoring offense. Since Week two. They've been a great road
team with Mike McDonald eight game road winning streak, and
donald is on an absolute eater in his last three

(32:08):
weeks of passer rating over one thirty. The Jags on
short rest off a highly emotional win, probably the biggest
Jags win in several years. Offensively, they are terrible on
third down. The Seahawks played their worst defensive game of
the season. They'll be in a bad mood. Watch Seattle's

(32:30):
defense come back revert to what we know they are
the turnover regression for Jacksonville. They're not going to keep
getting three and four turnovers a game. Seattle wins outright
in a bad mood cross Country thirty twenty seven. Hawks
rebound from that loss last week.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
Patriots six seat.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Take the under Patriots Saints under forty five and a
half points. Neither team runs the ball right. Patriots and
Saints are scoring under twenty points in half their games
this year. New England's again coming off an emotional, dramatic,
tough road win. I think they come back down to Earth.
I think they win, but it's going to be ugly

(33:12):
and low scoring. They're a top ten scoring defense. Christian
Gonzalez now he's back. It's hard to throw on them.
The Saints Spencer Rattler's interesting nine touchdown passes an eleven
career starts. These are two teams still finding their way.
Can't run the ball. Patriots win, but take the under.

(33:33):
Let's say a twenty one to twenty ugly choppie game.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Take the under.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
Chargers at DOLFI can't believe it.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
But I'm gonna take Miami plus the four and a half.
Listen two at home has been good his last seven
home games. He's not the problem. One twelve passer rating.
Chargers could be on their third running back and their
third left tackle. They are a mess, and what that
does they settle for field goals. They are struggling in

(34:04):
the red zone, so even if they dominate time of possession,
they're not gonna dominate in the red zone. Justin Herbert
three straight games with at least one interception. So I
get a team traveling cross country on backups to backups,
a Miami coach fighting for his career, and they're getting

(34:24):
four and a half at home. I think I'm gonna
take the Dolphins. Chargers probably win this game twenty four
to twenty three. I'm absolutely taking the points with the
Dolphins Titan Raiders again. I'm betting ugly this week. I
like the Raiders minus three and a half. They're coming
off a humiliating road loss. What the teams do when

(34:48):
they're humiliated. The Giants got humiliated last week they beat
the Eagles. They have found a rushing game with Ashton genty.
Look at the last two weeks for the Raiders one
hundred and seventy three yards rushing yards per game. So
they're gonna lean on that. And folks, Tennessee's awful. Forget

(35:09):
the win last week, They're awful. Held the twenty points
are fewer and four to five games allowing six yards
of play. So again, I don't love Gino. I think
they're gonna run the ball. It's gonna be ugly. The
Raiders were humiliated. Maybe it's one of their few wins
on the year, but I'm gonna take it. Swallow the points.

(35:30):
Twenty six seventeen over. What I think in Tennessee right
now is easily the worst team in the league.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
Bears at Commanders.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
My favorite bet of the week is the Commander's minus
four and a half. They're two and zero at home,
both blowout wins last three weeks, averaging twenty seven plus
points in three games. Okay, so they're getting points on
the board. Jayden Daniels last week looked excellent according to PFF.
They also have the best special teams and their defense
is getting after it up front.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
So I think you're.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
Gonna see the Washington of last year. Terry McLaurin could
play the Bears. They've lost four straight in prime time.
They're not a rise to the moment franchise. They've been
a bad road team forever. Their defense is allowing the
most yards. Do you know that lost in all this
Caleb Williams discussion. Their defense is allowing six points seven
yards of play. It's atrocious. The Commanders win thirty three

(36:25):
twenty six. J Mack doesn't love my picks. I'm taking
some ugly I'm taking the points in Miami at home,
I'm taking the Raiders. Raiders had the Bears beat last
week if not for that field goal.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
You don't like my picks. You know what happened.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
If you lie down with dogs, you get fleas colin
and there there's some gross this year, so I respect that.
By the way, did you look at the Seahawks' injury report?
Three of the four starters in the secondary maybe down
this week, not great at all against Trevor Lawrence who's
slinging it.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
So you're gonna take a team take it that is
literally going to bipolari ish at home after the most
important win for the franchise national TV game in years.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
They I mean, let's be honest about Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
When's the last time they played back to back great
games against good teams.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Here's what I'm surprised that you're taking close spreads. There's
some big ones out there. Rams are big. It looks
like Lamar's not going to go oh inter sults are
big looks like Kyler's on this show What Did I.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Do a week ago?

Speaker 1 (37:22):
Bills are going to crush the same Packers are going
to crush the Cowboys. Chargers are going to crush the
Giants last what was last night? Eagle is going to
crush I stayed away from all of them, all right,
But you know what game I actually like. I could
be out of my mind here. They'll tell me Dolphin's Raiders. Yeah,

(37:42):
that you're out of your mind for

Speaker 2 (37:43):
S when you when you they're running the ball now
