Speaker 1 (00:02):
The volume.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It feels like we haven't talked in a while, Ben,
been been too long.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
I think you canceled on me one time.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
No, I didn't, dude, don't don't lie.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
You almost canceled on me tonight. I think no, I didn't.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I was fine. I just I just I was getting
out of practice. That was Louise. I think Louise just.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Anticipates me canceling, So didn't he just canceled the show?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Well, it has happened a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
You're an idiot.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
A few times.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
All Right, guys, welcome to a brand new episode of
Funk in the Champ. That's been asking. I'm Daniel Cormier,
Ben Pianol. Last weekend, y'all rolled it up, it looked
like killing Walbert was wearing an Oklahoma state shirt today.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Is that where he's going on? Yeah, you made us
comment on today.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Is that your first cowboy?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah? It's still like it still feels weird, still feels weird.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Like I don't know how to feel about it.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
It's absolutely great to have a kid going to local
to stand telling you I had mine with Cody last year, and.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, he's loving it. Dude.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
It's the environment there is next level and these kids
are rusting.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Great dude. Last week they killed the clip.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
I know you went and washing at I did. Of
course what cowboys. Cowboys in the building more or you
think you you think you could beat White Hendrickson right now? No, No,
he was doing he was putting the kid in the
barbar the other day.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Like ye, of course he's the best bro. I love
bar I love that you called the barber. That's what
I call it because it was a barber. But there's
there's a whole bunch of names for that that are
not the barb wire. No, it's called the barboar.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, all the thing.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
You know, I didn't call a bar arm a barroom
for White, it's called it a chicken wing. Oh yeah,
of course call it a barroom, not like everybody else.
All right, Ben So UFC three ten was last weekend.
Pantosia won. Little Guys, right, Little guys are really making
their mark in mixed martial arts. The best little guy

(02:12):
in the world, I would argue, is Illiot Apoia, right,
meaning little guy won forty five.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Yeah, he might be mad at you, economy and down.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I call him little guys forty five thirty five twenty five.
He's starting to get into the middle size people at
fifty five because they wait, won seventy one to eighty.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, he said he's done though.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Beat Max Holloway, beat the Champ, became the Champan Volt
beat Max Holloway. Now he says he's done at one
forty five and he wants to fight at one fifty five.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
What do you make of that?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Like, that's kind of odd to me because it's not
like he's out of challengers.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
I mean, I feel like it really came out of nowhere,
because it's like he's been having trouble making weight or
you know, anything like that.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
He just so that's not of nowhere.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
And to your point, not on a challengers you have
Diego Lopes, who's you know, gaining some popularity and gain
some steam. And then you got I don't know how
to sayv Lov who just Beatloevloyev who just last weekend.
So you have these two guys who are up and comers,
but you know, there are a little bit bigger fish

(03:24):
to fry at one fifty five. You know, if he
goes and beats Charles, a very huge name, the execu
shot and you know you had two divisions. That's a
huge deal. I think, don't really sure featherweight belt hold it.
In case Lopes was on a really great performance, then
go take him on.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
You know his name is Lopez, right like I mean
it literally just looks like Lopez.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I've had this guy.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
I knew no, no, no, because I had this guy
who is Brazilian early training partner, Lucas Lops Lpes. So
I when I see it, I just like say it
out of habit.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Okay, I'm like going back, it's like, clearly Lopez. But
you know what, you know what it makes me think
about when I hear him going, I don't want to
fight Diego, I don't want to fight Devloyev. I don't
want to fight Volkanovsky again. It makes me think, honestly
that the fights to win the belt and then the

(04:20):
fight to retain the belt were too big. So John
Jones struggled with this a while back, right when he
was fighting Me and.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Shot and all these big names.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
When he got to Anthony Schmidt in, Thiago Silva and
Dominic Reyes, He's like, it doesn't feel.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
As exciting.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I think for to Portia, He's like, I just beat
the two greatest heavyweights, sorry, featherweights of the generation. Now
I gotta fight Diego Lopez, Now I gotta fight if Loyev.
I just think that for him it might feel like
the challenges as great as the ones he had to

(05:02):
go through in order to become the champion.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Yeah, I mean, there's definitely just some true truth to that.
And yeah, you know, one thing that I want to
say is it's my name McGregor's fault. There's probably a
lot of things are his fault.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
How can you blame counter for that too?

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Man? Hold on, you don't want to say, you don't
want to say. Back in the day, back in my day,
you know you there was something to be said for
defending your belt a few times. You think of the
all time great Airs and Silva, George s Pierre, John Jones,
uh Dmitrius Johnson all defended their belts for a very
long reign. Like it wasn't like they had one or

(05:38):
two and then went up a waiter to superfice or
anything else. It was like, hey, you you want your belt,
and then you defended all much times and that's what
made them so great, and it's it's actually kind of rare.
We see that in mixed martial arts now. And uh,
you know, I thought, at the very least, at the
very least, Ukuria is saying, I want to be active.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
I want to fight like he said.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
You know, he said it's fighting in January, and he
said he won't be ready to until May.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
So I want to fight like soon. So I love
that they're saying active.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
But as far as defending your belt in your division
for a long time, I feel like that's something we
haven't seen in kind of a long time.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
You know.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Plus I also don't like this is a conversation I
want to have with you, but I don't know if
we have had this before. But I don't even know
it constitutes a great title reign anymore. I don't know
how many defenses it is a great title reign anymore,
considering it's so.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Hard to defend championships.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
But I think, for to pour you myself, I think personally,
it's just like when you beat the best guys, especially
the two guys that rule the division for so long. Yeah,
there can be a little bit of fatigue in there.
And it's not like muscle fatigue. It's mental fatigue, right,
because you have to be so up to do what
he did to Max Holloway and to do what he

(06:53):
did to Volkanowski.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
And I don't care what people tell you.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
The only ones that believe that he would do what
he did did was Illiot Aporia and his team. You
can't think that that was going to happen just being
on the outside. He went and he knocked out Max Holloway.
That doesn't happen. You don't knock out Max Holloway. He
knocked out Volklanovski. You don't do those things back to back.
So now to think, now, I went fighting to establish

(07:20):
veteran stars, people that sell pay per view, the BMF champion.
So now I gotta fight a guy that's on the upswing,
a guy that's on the rise, a guy that truly is.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Who I was only a couple of fights ago.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
I feel like I feel like we got to put
that narrative to bed. It's bullshit. This fight the best
guy in your division.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
It is not. It's not bullshit.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
He is a little bit bullshit. Is this is as
well as entertainment, this is sport.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Let me.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
I'll ask you two questions. I'll prove you wrong.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Right now, right okay, College wrestling, what's the most impressident
that's ever been.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Done for n C DOUAA titles? Undefeated?

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Why?

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Because he had to do it every single match? American wrestling,
American wrestling, what's the most impressive international feat?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
John Smith?

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Six straight? Because he did it every single time.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
I understand, I understand you want consistency, but Ben, we
are not talking about wrestling. We're talking about fighting and that.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
But that is why. Let me tell you why. Let
me tell you why guys lose. The people that.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Are viewed as that's their fault, they can't guys lose.
I think that's why John Jones fought so bad against
those guys because of that fatigue.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
That he can't say fatigue because John Jones had like
three years off from when I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Muscle fatigue, I'm talking about mental fatigue. When you got
to get up so great, bro. Even me, when I
fought John Jones, even if I lost, I train harder
because I recognized the challenge.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
And all that. Hey with beating him. I don't know,
White Vulcan, it was different.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
I'm telling you, hold on, I mean, I mean, it's
got my book out here. Because I'm forgetting. I'm forgetting
what chapter this is right now? So this is this
is chapter number eight extreme.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
This is.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
This is you're going to book.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Respecting your opponent and wanting to crush your opponent. So
I underd no, no hold on the reason you're thinking
this is and it's fair, right, but you think it
was Demir he sucks. I'm gonna beat him even the
five And that's what some of these guys thinks. But
then why why is so great? It's because he was

(09:39):
able to get up every single time. And I understand
you're saying about the mental fatigue of getting up, but yes,
if you're gonna be elite champion, if you give me the
greatest of all time, I want you to get up
every time. I want you to be the best you
can be every single time. That's why I want to
call you the Grace of all times.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
But why in the world do you get guys like
Islam going, I don't really want to do rematches you
saw last week, so partemer.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Nobody wants to do rematches. They're like again, it's that
fatigue of the same thing.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
And now it's like you know and recognize how motivated
you were when you were on the verge. That champion
is like ilia who we're talking about. It's kind of
like I'd rather go fid Charles Olavera because I recognize
the threat being so great that I have to get
myself up. Because if we are to believe history, right,

(10:31):
he just beat the two best featherweights we've seen in
the last eight years.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
Be any different, Yeah, I know, I agree with I mean, yes,
I agree with you, so you do agree with me.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
I agreed.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
I agree with that Diego Lopez is not quite on
the level of the other guys you mentioned. But I
think a great champion gets ready to prepare for all opponents.
You respect the opponents, so you prepare adequately. Therefore you
don't have a letdown. I got to two things. Number One,
Alex Pera has now defended his light heavyweight tell. I
thought it's two times. It is three times. So he's

(11:05):
someone who is actually now defending his title. And you
know he's getting a lot of street credit for showing
up and fighting again. But man, does this mean our
fighters actually like kind of soft? Because you think like
football players generally. I thought the football players is being
kind of wimpy, But these dudes gott to show up
like twenty weeks a year, like any these fighters gotta
show up three times, right.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
But Ben, that's not fair. Fighters don't show up three times.
Fighters show up.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Think about this.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
If you do three fights, three fights only, you trained
for thirty six weeks a.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Year to compare.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, that's more than half the year for football players
training for that long tim.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
In twenty weeks like you just sall, No, you're wrong.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
They're doing twenty weeks the competitions a competition, But I'm
sure they're doing some practice before that, right.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
They're training, Rod.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
But I'm saying, like preseason twenty four to twenty five
weeks total.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I'm telling you it's different, Dude. I can't believe you.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
What are you gonna tell me next that that basketball
players get up at five o'clock in the morning get
up one hundred shots. I mean that is literally, like
you're going crazy to me right now.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I don't understand.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
I'm just saying, like, I don't think if we're if
you're talking about competition and we're talking about being like
the greatest of all time and being a great champion,
I don't think it's insane to expect someone to to
challenge defend their belt, say three times a year, and
I think fair three is fair, and and and whoever
wants to show up, I have the belt. This is

(12:34):
my white class. Whoever wants to show up, come on,
I'll whoop your ass. And then you know you did
that for a little while.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
And big Lopez over Ilia, No, of course not well,
Luise is over here saying crazy shit right now, Like
in the chat, I think the poor Louise is so stupid.
I don't know why, dude, see nos so been Louise
does that. I'm like, shut up, Luise, Guys, this is
what Louise said. I think the Poria does award the

(13:00):
Lopez fight. Lopez is a monster, and he's been public
about being unafraid of Ilia. You're gonna when I'm sitting
there with Ilia, Luis and you're sitting there behind the camera,
don't don't be sad when I tell Ilia what you said.
No Diego said, I'm telling you I respect everyone, but
I'm not afraid of anyone. If there's anything I don't have,

(13:21):
it's fear. I think I've shown that in all my fights.
I've shown that I'm not afraid of anyone as many
times as he wants to point to the ground, I
will plant my feet in the middle of the cage
and throw down.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Is that easy? I wouldn't advise that against the Tuborio.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
So if Detoria wants to move up, whatever cool I
see it, then't move up, right. But if you're really
one forty five and then just stay and defend your division,
you have at least two more solid defenses Lopes and
Lopez and whatever's damn name is Voyev Yes, him, you
have at least two more solid defenses. And then maybe

(13:58):
maybe gets a little thin after that, right, maybe to
throw Bryce Mitchell or something again Rice.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Mitchell already, No, he'd beat Brice's bad. I know it's
so bad. Hey man, how about the fact that elliots
Apoy has a two million dollar gym already in his basement.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
We talked about it. His uh, his wife is there?
He married in the money or something? Oh he did, Yeah,
we talked about.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
This one time a couples ago. Man. That's crazy. All right, guys.

Did you see Morob daw Wallace freely beating up that
guy the other day?

Speaker 3 (15:35):
You told me it was that he was a plant,
though I swear bro the audience.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Did you see it though? Did you see the pictures?
I told you you can look it up. Look on
the internet a fan that Morob hit you like the internet?
Look at it on your phone, bro, There's like a
picture of Morob.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Fighting this guy. Somebody had an explanation.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Next thing, you know, I see the dying pictures with
Kabe Even who are he's like with Umar's team?

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (16:03):
So, I mean he probably deserved you get punched the right.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Wait why why would he deserve to?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
Because Umar was antagonizing Marab at the UH at the
That was weird.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Though, Like, why was Moron so mad at the press common?

Speaker 3 (16:17):
I don't know he's mad.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
I mean maybe there's some Georgian uh, Georgian and Russian
heat or something.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
He said, you need to be a man for show
respect to Umar. But I don't know what happened.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
How about the hot tup picture like that? He brought
that up?

Speaker 2 (16:31):
What hot hot picture?

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Stop? You've never seen the hot time?

Speaker 2 (16:35):
You've never seen it?

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 5 (16:36):
Right now?

Speaker 3 (16:39):
And Daniel, you're messing with me? Louise, Louise, get us
this hot to.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Picture teammate, Yes, Louis said.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Put it, put it in the chat, put it in
the chat. I can't believe.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Hold on, he's gonna get a force and you're gonna
it's all the decastandis in the hot tub together.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Luise, could you please bring it up?

Speaker 1 (17:00):
That is not real, bro, that's that is a freak picture.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
It's not that is a fake figure. Fake bro. I
can't believe Louise edited this.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
That is real.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
That's real.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
I can't believe you've never seen this?

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Is this real?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yes, it's real? Have you really never seen it?

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Singer?

Speaker 4 (17:20):
This is real, That's what I'm saying. Like, listen, Dany,
you can sit in the song with the boys. You
aren't sitting as close to the boys.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
What's a small hot toe?

Speaker 3 (17:28):
That's why they're all in there? Take or something?

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Yes, I never heard this.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
I did what you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I didn't realize that picture. It's edited.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
It's no, it's not. That's real edited. Louise did it
on this. We did ask your friend could be that
is a crazy photo?

Speaker 2 (17:47):
Too many people to It's like they edited.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
And you can't even get mad though, because you sitting
the song with thirty people in an I don't thirty
we have sat thirty po Ben.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
I still remember two thousand and eight, you came into
the sauna and you're like I gotta get some fluend
f Wait, I'm watching you drink, and I'm like, this
is a terrible strategy, Like you're just drinking.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
You just got to sweat that back out.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
But Ben, let me ask you this, what OTC sauna?
It's made for eight people.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
I never sat that many people.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
We sat in there, thirty people at one time.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Oh you were lying, man, get the pictures?

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Are you well? How many pictures? But it was hot?

Speaker 3 (18:32):
What ever? Sat with them?

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Now that I think about it, we called it the
Russian sauna. It was a thirty minute sauna.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
You remember that.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
It was like a thirty minute sauna.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
That many people in there.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Though, there were thirty people in that freaking that song.
I can't believe you think? So you think on this one?
Is it bad?

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Is it bad that they're fighting these guys though? Like fans?

Speaker 4 (18:58):
I mean, you know, if that's so dangerous, actually an
enemy combatant, then I suppose have had him. But yeah,
I generally don't think fighting fans is a good idea.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Hey that boy, that boy, Morob said.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
They asked Morob what was their favorite Lumar and Islam
their favorite moment together.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Morob said, how about a Jacuzzie said you.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Could come, Umar said I was not there.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
This is real, I guess the real mode. Dang no,
that's so crazy.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
I'm just happy that my friends can all like embrace
being close to each other like that.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
That means they're real friends, real teammates. They love each other.
Then I have a little too close. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
It's like I don't want you wrestle some of the
positions that you get in in wrestling with.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
The funk one versus another. It's not seven dudes.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
You're so crazy. You're he're so crazy? Hey what? And
they Dias was fighting with Islam in them too.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
He fights with everybody except him and Nate. Nick don't
get in the ring really anymore because was it Nick?
Didn't they reach scheduled Nick like two or three times?

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Vicente Luke, Yeah, submitted Timba Gadimbo the other day.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
What did you say, Timba Gadimbo. His name is Tima Garimbo.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
That's not a real name, is it? Is that real?

Speaker 4 (20:15):
I remember I heard Terry Brown say, uh, what are
those damn names of the airports? And in Moscow Domadedevo
and share Menovo or something. You made that ship up,
like that's.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
You thought I made up that name. Tima Garimbo. Yes,
his name is Tima Garumbo. I swear to god. He's
the guy that the Rock was the house for.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
I still think you're making it up.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Hey, you know what, you know, it's kind of funny.
I saw Terry.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
I saw Tom brands and in Denver a couple of
weeks ago. They just got done beating Oregon State at
Doo Meat and he will. I'm walking through the airport
after leaving Salt Lake City and somebody grabbed me by
the arm and it was Tom Brand's and he didn't bro,
he didn't say nothing. He grunted at me a few times,
just walked away.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
That's what I got it. I swear to god. He
goes proudy.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
We hugged, We hugged you hard times, like we hugged
five times. When I see Tom Brands, bro, I get
super excited because I'm like a massive fan of his.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
We hugged five times.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
I don't believe this right now?

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Are you making this up? I swear to god.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
We were standing in front of the restaurant and I
was like, he grabbed.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Me, and he goes prouty proudy, proudy, I said, Toad.
I gave him a hug and I was like, man,
it's so good to see you.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
It is.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
I hugged him again, and then I was like, I
didn't know what to do after that, so I hugged
him again. Dug like five times. It's crazy, all.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Right, So we want to talk about us three eleven
and you invited me, but now I've made fun of
the standing.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
I was gonna see if you could come and maybe
we do our live show from Los Angeles. Guys, then
the comments tell us, do you want me and Ben
to do our live show from LA I think it
would be fun. You guys, come on sit with us,
talk with us. We'll call it a night with Funky
in the Champ. We'll put some liquor on the table
bin a smoker's lounge. It'll be so fun, a night
with the Champ. What do you think about that?

Speaker 4 (22:12):
I mean, I think it'd be fun if I don't
get attacked. I always think about these shows. Uh, you know,
like I had to sit here at my house in
Wisconsin and I just talk ship and it's like, I
know I'm making someone upset.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
I hope we're not too mad at me. We're having
a good time.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Yeah, they're gonna throw bottles at you.

be a lot of fun.

got Tagastani's, we got what is Armine again?

Speaker 2 (22:45):

Los Angeles. Yes, it's gonna be crazy. You think LA
is gonna be better than it was because for a
while they got really bad. LA got bad. I couldn't
even go there anymore.

Speaker 5 (22:59):
