Speaker 5 (01:45):
Rob Wi, thanks for checking in with me again. Chimp.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
We're back again, and uh you just literally keep getting
better and.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Keep working towards this goal. That last fight against Ali Scaoff.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
I remember when we sat down, Remember I did the
interview on my iPad because I didn't have a camera,
and you told me that you thought you had figured
out a way to get through this.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
I'm like, well, he's this and the other. You beat
him easier than anyone could have imagined. Like, was that
the expectation of the fight going in?
Speaker 6 (02:16):
Another expectation the hope, yes, the hope. Yeah, not the expectation.
The expectation was to grond it out for twenty five minutes.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Yeah, you know, to have wolves.
Speaker 6 (02:24):
That's what we trained for and prepare for. But mat like,
it's just confidence in the work that I'm putting in.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
Yeah, you hit him with that night shot. He wait
when he went real and you your eyes got big
because you didn't rushed though.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
That's the one thing that young fighters don't get, right.
They get somebody hurt and they just go crazy.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
You took your.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Time and you found it. It was an upper cut, right, Yeah,
they got him. Yeah, you found the uppercut that got him.
When you saw it hurt, you're like, okay, take my time,
let me find the shot.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
Yeah. The idea is hurt him and not let them recover, right. Yeah,
and then like you'll fund your moment.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
I always tell people, I say, it's not the first
the first one hurts you.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
It's the follow up shot that gets you, right, the
one that comes after.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
And it was like you hurt him, and then when
you went and you got I was like, oh my god,
Robert Woodaker, that shit was crazy.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
It's kind of crazy how you managed to do it
over and over again, but you never released it. You
never released the thought that you'd beat the champion. Even
after drinkings duples ce, you just right back to work.
Now you're fighting. Ham's out, Jamaya, like me and your
pops are talking outside. He goes, he's due for an
easy one. I go, they don't get no easier once
they get no easier because they beat your Mayah.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Now you're fighting for the belt again.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
Yeah, it's uh, this is what I do. This is
what I sign up for. This is my duty to
my family, and this is how I put bread on
the table. And I take that role very responsibly.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
So when you look at Jamaya, right, he was going
through these dudes like crazy. Right, he gets to Ushmano
and it was much more difficult because no right, no
disrespect to Lee, no disrespect to these these these first
dudes he should have beat like that on Fight Island, right,
because they're just not very good. It Mayor Shard he
knocked him out as a bit surprised when he gets
(04:04):
to usan right world class fighter. What did you see
in him in that fight opposed to what you saw prior?
Speaker 6 (04:11):
I think it's just what did I see?
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Good? Things that impressed you are things that you might
have went okay.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
Well, I think I think the first thing is like
you need to respect his skill level, Like he's he's
pushing a game plan on a world class fighter, on
a former champion level fighter, and that deserves respect. Like
everyone knows he was going to wrestle, he still did it. Yeah,
that deserves respect and I respected and that's why I've
(04:43):
trained my heart out for the last twenty weeks. Yeah.
But also he saw that usman on a week to
notice he started catching up.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Yes, he did.
Speaker 6 (04:55):
In the third round, he started catching up.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
And you got five rounds and I got.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
Five rounds, and I think I'm better than usmim.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, bigger for sure. Remembers still fighting at welterweight. You're
a middleweight now.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
I've had twenty wakes to prepare for this guy.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Yeah, had time to get ready.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
So is it a matter of extending the fight though?
Is it like can you go through him earlier? Do
you have to make him fight longer because again, in
the first round of that fight, he was still held
on wheels for even kamara Usman.
Speaker 6 (05:22):
I'm gonna come at him from the first second to
the last. I'm taking the fight to him the entire time.
That's how I win.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yeah, you've been trained a lot of wrestling in preparation
for this.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
I saw a video of you getting after it.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
How how have you enjoyed being back on that type
of grindle, what type of fight you had in Pretty.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
My back is sore.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Dude's the worst for Kiel Pennings and told me that
she goes, I hate wrestling. My back and my neck
are so sore from doing so much wrestling.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
But did you enjoy it getting back to that?
Speaker 6 (05:51):
You know what I enjoy It makes me strong?
Speaker 5 (05:53):
Yeah, it feels strong here too, always.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
Yeah, like I feel strong. And then like when you're
in those date rounds, you know you're just like I'm
gonna kill you. Like, Yeah, it brings something out of.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
You, it does, and it makes you strong and mentally
because if you can get through that wrestling workout like that,
especially consistently, you know that you can get through a fight.
Tamaiah says he does respect you right, and he's been
saying it publicly, but he doesn't believe that even though
you're doing this, and you've done this for a real
long time to the point that you put a single
it on and when Russell actual tournaments, he just does
(06:27):
not feel like you can compete with.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Him in that way. Is to implement that game plan
on you like to that what you say, will find out?
Speaker 6 (06:36):
Yeah, all right, like this is a fight. Yeah we'll
find out. Yeah, I've done everything. If he's that good,
then I'll find out. Yeah, Like I'm gonna find out.
And I'm excited for the test. I'm excited to put
myself up against someone that believes that because I've beaten
a lot of people that think they were better than me,
(06:58):
you know. And yeah, like every fight, every hardship, every
trial makes me better and this is just another one.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
So I believe this is me. This is me.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
I believe that if you win this weekend you should
get a title fight. Do you think that if you
win this weekend you get a title fight?
Speaker 6 (07:15):
Definitely?
Speaker 3 (07:16):
But why why is it that Sean Strickland has been
determined the numb one contender when he beat a guy
that you beat and then you went and fought two
more times. So how do you make the statement that
you deserve the shot over him?
Speaker 6 (07:31):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
I just don't really worry about it, like it's it
just to me. It doesn't seem logical.
Speaker 6 (07:36):
You see. That's like a whole side of fighting that
I don't really take notice off really well, because it's
it's for one, I don't have a lot of control
over it too. I don't want to play those games
to get It's like politics almost, it really is, and
I don't want to play it. Yeah, I'm just gonna
do my job. I'm gonna go out there. I'm gonna
(07:58):
winning opens doors.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
But again three wins. Paula Costa, you beat. That was
a tough fight. I'll scar up you beat.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
If you beat Hams at your mind, it would seem
as though it's the logical next step.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
You and Drake's dup plus he of history.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
He just beat Israel at assign you are He's surprised
because I mean a lot of times, dude, I'm telling you, bro,
like I finally am done overlooking this guy. It's some
of the shit he does that makes me want There's
a picture of him with these like Daisy dude shorts on,
He said, to the back of a truck, This dude's
crazy dog dracs, but he's a good fighter. He'd beat
Izzy submitted, Izzy, were you surprised that he was able
(08:35):
to do that?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Nah?
Speaker 6 (08:38):
Really well, Drake is one of those dudes I like,
I just feel like he's gonna win somehow. He does
if you don't get him out of there. Somehow he's
gonna win. And that's the ball I got. I think
that was the best version of I was saying.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
I thought, is he looked pretty good too. He looked great.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
I just think like Drake and Snike's it awkward, man,
and he just keeps coming at you.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Do you think that if you fight them again there
you had benefit from being in there before having a field.
Speaker 6 (09:04):
Definitely.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Yeah, but it times out your mind this weekend.
Speaker 6 (09:08):
Definitely.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
How do you see the fight going.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
I'm gonna look to hunt him for the twenty five minutes.
I'm looking to take his head off.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:14):

Are you feeling my brother? Good? Good man? You look good,
you feel ready? You like like a doctor, No, you
like professor me.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
My biggest problem is you you're picking me up once
you pick me up off the ground.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Everybody trying to pick me up off the ground. Though,
why do you do this? Like now? No respect? He said,
you might have picked this guy up. Not everybody think Hey,
I said, hey, I'm not hospibal this guy. I tell him.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
The other day to God, so he's so like everybody
picked me up so much the other day, somebody try
to pick me up.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
I put all my fucking away like it, like super heavy.
I started defending the tikes out. Man, this it is crazy.
Don't pick me up.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I don't know they post that ship.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
They do just like you. You know, you picked me
up on the ground like this. Hey, what's up? Why
you have the glasses?
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Did the problem with the right eyes?
Speaker 5 (11:15):
It's okay, you look like professor.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
I don't know what I look like, just doing the
things you listen to my doctor.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Yeah it looked goody.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
How you feeling?
Speaker 1 (11:25):
It feels good? Amazing? Ready for the fight?
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Hum's out? Your maya of guys bores checks it with
the boy again. I appreciate you stopping by like you
always do. Man, it's been a minute, right, you guys
were scheduled to fight earlier in the year you fell
out had some medical issues. How how much did you
have to manage this training camp so that you didn't
find yourself getting sick again?
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Oh? How you said talk about although the interviews they
asked him about my house or had the such team
about me? You know, all that guys were checking myself, plements,
my doctor, my nutrition, food, making food for me and
the guy. So everything being perfect.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
So is it annoying that that becomes a part of
the story. When you first started, we all talked about
two fights in ten days. We talked about the knockout
against Gerald miershar It was always about the fight. Now
the story has become so much about howms I can't fight?
Speaker 5 (12:23):
How's that? This is that annoying to you?
Speaker 1 (12:25):
No, bro, it's one that if I fight now in
ten days twice, they're gonna start again.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
You go back to that.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yeah, so people is flying that way. If you'll go
that way, they're flying that way. She'll go that way.
The ninety nine percent of the people in the world,
they're just flying. They what they see.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
How have you dealt with the fame that came with
that rush of you went from a guy that came
on Fight Island nobody really knew who you were to
be in a superstar like you.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
How have you handled the change in your lifestyle.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Become a Norman? So, yeah, sometimes it's about skip.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Somebody said, you're not training the Sweeten anymore at all?
Are you not training Sweeten anymore?
Speaker 6 (13:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Sometimes sometimes going back work with the coaches, but now
train the places there's no people, no kind of touch,
you know, So just don't focus on that gym. You're
on there with your team, no more people. Yeah, much easier.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
You built your own team.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
And who else are you training with? I saw you
rustling against the Olympic champ? Yeah hard, it's so hard.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
They has a good movement movements, you know, so about
the heart for the for them go wrestle against the wall.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Okay, so here's the thing, right, So Goodsala came to
ak to train with me. The first day, I thought
to myself, Okay, I'll be able to take this guy
down against the wall.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
And I did.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
But then the next day it's like he adjusted to
it and he can rustle off the wall.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Did that happen to like or he just kind of
got it quick?
Speaker 6 (14:02):
Good?
Speaker 1 (14:02):
The Olympic athletes, you know, if you're Olympic gold medalist
or you should be a good man and has it,
they feel they feel good. Man. If you're a wrestler,
you feel grappling as well. Good you know, yeah, the
moments that guy is crazy, good man, unbelievable. Was fun.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
The rest of it them challenge yourself in those ways, yeah,
of course it's hard to like find people when you
become who you are, especially when you're so good at everything,
to step outside of your comfort zone. How important is
it for you to go out and seek out the
Olympic champion and say I want to feel because because honestly,
in most instances you can beat pretty much anyone, but
(14:44):
put yourself up against it like that, Like, how important
is it to feel like, man, this is a tough
battle to overcome.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
I like to test myself, you know, against anyone. So
if you're good done striking, I want to try it
with him. If I good on the ground, I go
with him. If wrestler, I go wrestler with him. You know,
that's that makes you better fighter, you know, so it
makes you better everywhere. But I thinks we had a
lot of guys good on everything. You know, we has
(15:12):
a great box as great wrestlers in my country, you know,
so whatever I ask to help about, they comes and
just helping me, you know, happy for that.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Were you surprised at Robert Whitaker's win in Saudi Arabia?
Were you surprised at how easily he got through that
in that performance?
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah, of course I was surprised. But I know how
good the crumb is it. But he was on himself there,
so I think he could do better.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Do you think that was just Robert Whittaker being better
or you think Alice Caroff was kind of overwhelmed by everything.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
I don't know. But Rob did his job the best
way he could do. But I don't know. I come
as a high level fighter, you know, so you could
be not easy to become a world champion somebody. So
he's like highest highest competition in the world, you know.
So I don't know, so.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Roble would occur you guys getting rescheduled again? Did you
know that's what it would be? And do you feel
like this one, if you win this one, you should
earn a shot of the championship?
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Shouldn't be? Should be? I don't know. We'll see.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Do you feel like it's taken longer than expected though,
Like when you were when the way you were going
through all these fights, it seemed as though you would
have already fought for the championship.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Yeah, but they remember before phototitle they hold him it
took forever. Yeah, they say, I think it's going the
same again against me as well. I don't care about it.
When what I can get my bout probably say, hey's
that champion?
Speaker 5 (16:42):
How do you see this fight going down this weekend?
Speaker 1 (16:45):
When if I go in take a week day, it
doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
How so when you falk Kamorrow Usman, it seemed as
though the third round you started to fatigue a little bit.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
Do you have to kind of get off the gas earlier?
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Do you have to be a little bit more paid
sht in your approach because before that blitz that you
had was just getting guys out of there, But then
as you're raised in competition Ousman, now Whittaker, those guys
are tough enough, have seen enough to he might still
be there in the end. Do you have to start
a little slower this weekend against another former champion?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Oh, I'm gonna mary myself. It's just gonna go and
fight with this guy mana. So if you run away,
gonna run off. Tell him if you're gonna fight, I'm
gonna fight. So that's it. So it's gonna be I'm
let you my.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Other Would you learn about yourself in that Usman fight?
Third round? Tired former champion? Like? What did you learn there?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Things matter all the fights? Man? Learning a lot of
different things, different fighters different of course it was small music.
He's one of the best guys withoose I fight and also.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
It was good.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
But was tired as well. He was, Yeah, I prepare,
it's natural. Yeah, but I'm preparing fight for the guy
who is not don't know how to defend the takedowns,
and you go with one of the best restlers in Yeah,
you know. So that's the difference, you know, And of
course you're gonna get that tired tired. I was tired.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
Yeah, the champions Drakes du plus y what do you
make of him?
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Because I gotta be honest, man, like, at first I
thought he wasn't very good, but clearly he's good, right
because he beats everybody and then he goes and finishes
out of sonya, Like what do you make a drinkers
du plus C especially seeing that he got he submitted isy,
I've never seen him submit anybody.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah, but he is going down slowly, slowly. I don't
think so. He's that motivated, Like before, you don't think so.
I don't think so. But he is a better fighter
and depreci I think.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
You think is he's better than drinkers? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:49):
But they thought, yeah, they thought about like a fighter.
I mean, but that then you have how watch you're hungry,
how much you want these things is what You can
be a bad fighter and you could be that some
guy can beat you up four rounds and last round
because of your heart, you win the fight, you know.
So that's I think he don't have anymore. I think,
but he is a good fighter. He's not by fighting.
(19:12):
I think he's much better. And then they preciate, but
they appreciate it once. The more he wanted to be
a chump. He wants to stay there. That's why he
took the belt, win the fight.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
Du Plus he is big, he can wrestle bout.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Nickel also talks like you two are going to fight,
like what you start to get shot and.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Everybody know everybody's coming coming after you.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Yeah, everyone talks like you know, it's wrestling. It's MMA
wrestling and like we talked about before, wrestling first, ivesting
is a big different.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Somebody asked me that yesterday who would win in a
wrestling match between Ham's at yourmaia in bold Nickel, I
said in a wrestling match Wrestling Shoes online Bull Nickel,
But in MMA, all of your experience you'd be able
to out wrestle him much easier.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
It would be the cach. I could take him down easily.
Submit the guy. So I know the guy good in wrestling.
He'd being not you know, Champo or something like that.
So it's not wrestling, man. Yeah, you get that bunch
onund yet And I'm complete wrestler for MMA, not like
just taking a single like but like it. Yeah, and.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
It's good to have you back. Man, it's been too long.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Hey, you might be a good wrestler Old Nikkel all
those guys, but if you ever found yourself stuck in
an octagon with me, I'll take your hands down over
and over again. Boom.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
How's that just going for a ride? Bro?
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Imagine how many times I kill Imagine if I was
your weight, how many.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
Times I kill you? Every time we wrestle? I kill you, guys, never,
every time we got in your dreams.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
You can't wrestle in your dreams.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
UM's out your mind takes a Robert Woodeker this weekend

Speaker 4 (21:08):
M hm
