Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume, guys.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Diego Lopez fights Alexander Volkanowski for the vacant UFC Featherweight
Championship this weekend. Thanks for checking in with me, man,
I appreciate you stopping by. How has this all been, Diego?
This has gone really really fast. Two years ago you
make a short notice debut, you fight so competitively against

(00:34):
if Loyev right, if Loye right. Yes, fight so competitively
against Evloyev. Fast forward and you're fighting for the world title. Like,
is this faster than you could have even imagined?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I think it is. I ain't stay so fass, I mean,
chuie is I'm state fights for the title, but I
have it thirty two fights, bro walking to ma chat
heavy in Michael here for a professional fight, I walk
it to a so long time. Uh one day, I know,

(01:07):
I know imaginally this is I'm staying UFC. Is my
incest in the in the division is so fast? I
take for I fight for the title, But I know
I I sent this secarette in my myself. It's the
I already UFC. I I put the bigger, bigger bigg

(01:28):
things in the division.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Then we get to note cha UFC and you're fighting
Brian or Taga this time at your actual way, and
you beat him as bad as anyone has ever beaten
Brian or Taga.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Did you know matchup wise that that was a good
fight for you?

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:46):
I know.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Uh, in this fight my mind is, uh go to
the altagon, put the great show. Uh prove it for
for everybody who stay waiting for fight at the top. No,
this is my goal, uh for this fight. I know
it's the guys is a great fighter's not not too
many people's bitters, the theres, the and put in this fight. Yeah,

(02:13):
I know, I know it's the is a great fight. Now.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Were you disappointed seeing him leave the weight class when
you could potentially have fought him for the belt?

Speaker 3 (02:23):
No, I don't think so. Because this guy in October
in the in the fight week in the UF this
guy said many time, is that you's the guy?

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Uh move for?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
He told you?

Speaker 3 (02:39):
No, told you in the media. Yes, the media. Uh.
I at least it is me and my teas they
prepared for.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
But did he look big?

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Does he look big like a big guy to go
up to one of the divide.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
No, I don't think so. This is it's it's short,
it's short. Small, but it's.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
It's white like big.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah, it's big. Uh, but you know I'm not the
point for this. My focus is the title, the bell
Yeah bell, I lind seen. My focus in the title
this time twenty twenty three three, the the champions volcano
in My focus in the Volcanos Voco, the lost of
the title. My focus there in the Poia. Uh yeah, no,

(03:21):
that's the point because my my focus is for the title.
No one past.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
So it is Alexander Volkanowski, right, and this is one
of the greatest champions of all time, right, he can
do it all.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
This guy is an amazing fighter. But in his last
few fights he's one in three.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
In his last four he got beat by Marktcheff, then
he got finished by Marktcheff, then he got finished by
the poor year.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Is Alexander Volkanowski the same guy? Can he compete with
you on Saturday night?

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Maybe? Maybe now is the guy take one one in
the West. Maybe it's the guy is the humanity is
different now? Maybe taking it take take take your time
for for the rest is the ovens for for your
life too? Maybe now is different for the fight for No.
I think it's the guy fighted so fast after after

(04:13):
the Yeah, but bro, I mean I hope the best
version that the voke. I work too much for this fight.
I hope for the best, the best diversion of the
vote in the octagon. Uh, this is my goal now
is my goal for BITI voke is the best version.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Experience is a very key component to this fight.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Volkanowski has for ten straight title fights, main events, five rounds.
You haven't you have none, no main events, no five
round fights.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
How have you prepared yourself for that?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Knowing that if this fight goes long, you're in there
with a guy that has essentially made a career of
being in those moments.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
I know vocal is a lot of a lot of experience.
You have seen fight too much to match the fight
in the five rounds. But I prepared myself for for
the best. I've I prepared for one, two, three, for
five rods is necessary for for this fight. But I
I I go to finish this fight. I know what
I know. I know twenty four for for the fighting,

(05:19):
make the decision. I twenty four the finished the fighter.
I take it nothing. Twenty four for fighting every fighter
for five rides. Right. Look, my record is twenty twenty five,
twenty six wins, twenty to twenty finished. This is my goal.
My goal is finishing this fight.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
You're right on the verge of it. Man, you have
any Orange Oklahoma state? You went training? He went training
still water. How do you like it down there?

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Is amazing? Is amazing. Time stayed two weeks and he's
still water. It is amazing. Trainice. The people in Oklahoma
is so nice. People. Is they training this guy in
the in the room two? It's the Yeah, and so
I'm so happy.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
It is my time in oklaholm and David's coming tomorrow.
The coach is coming to watch a fight.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yeah, yes, David is coming in Tomato. Yeah. I I
had no idea, but to my money, is I good?
Defend it for David? It's say mean, it's that yesterday
all David is coming in Thursday?

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Is is y'all?

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
I'm so happy because David is now. He's a good
friend too.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Good friend, great coach, You're a great fighter. Guys.

Speaker 2 (06:21):

Speaker 2 (08:36):
We're here at Tatiana Suarez as she challenges for the
UFC strawweed Chancy, I got it right, and she said.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
God, she just told me. I always think she's at
one twenty five. I've said that probably been done. Yeah,
it's so embarrassing that this is my job.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
And then a tweet I'm like that was that one.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
You're like, oh my bad, no, because you're like in
shape and you look you look good.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
So we're sitting here now for the first time. But
it feels like this should have happened a long time ago,
and many people expected you to be in this position
a long time ago. I know it was a tough
journey to get here. Speak a little bit about that,
and like the relief that you feel right now that
you're actually here.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
Yeah, I mean it feels amazing, you know.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
Like I know a lot of people were worried because
of all the injuries and stuff like how my camp
would go.

Speaker 6 (09:22):
But I was very, very smart.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
I made sure that I had great sparring partners and
great partners in general, just making sure that you know,
I make it to the to the fight, because you know,
for me, it's like everybody that knows me believes I'm
the best in the world, and they see how great
I am.

Speaker 6 (09:36):
So they're just like you just need to get to
the fight.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
You So here I am. I'm super excited. It's fight
week and I'm ready to go do my thing.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
When you wrap your mind around this, right, because even
your wrestling career was cut a little shorty, right, like
you were third in the world, which is an amazing
accomplishment because is a great wrestler young when you were
yeah really yeah, I.

Speaker 6 (09:54):
Mean, I mean I won my first medal at seventeen
years old.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Seventeen years old, Yeah, I won your first world medal.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
So when dealing with with with those types of issues
over the course of two careers, right because it was
a wrestling career and then a fighting career, Yeah, are there.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Times where.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
You're kind of like worried, like you can't let the
mind get a hold of you, Like I don't want
to I don't want to ruin this. Like, so I
understand training smart but still getting the work that you
need to make sure you're prepared when you get it.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
How do you deal with those demons of all the
things that have happened in the past.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
Oh, I'm smart about it, but I still work very hard. Yeah,
So it's not like the tearing me from getting my
work in because I do lots of live. I mean,
like you know, I know a lot of people like
they're like, oh, you know, maybe you can drill more
of this and that, And I do drill, but I
also I also go live a lot, like a lot,
and I'm usually the last one to leave when it
comes to any type of life. Like they we start

(10:48):
at the same time, and I leave way after everybody else.
I mean, I do mad rounds. I love to grapple.
I love this spar love, I love all of it.
Like I'm a workhorse.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Yeah you are. It's a wrestling It's a wrestler. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
People always ask me, like how do you get through
the challenges? I'm like, man, I've wrestled since I was
three years old.

Speaker 6 (11:04):
That yeah, that like it teaches you. It gives you
a different mindset than anything.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
Like once I start rolling and like rolling around and
doing all the wrestling drills, like my mentality completely changes
and like you know, you know what.

Speaker 6 (11:16):
I'm talking about, those good wrestling warm ups that.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Really get you going and just when you can blow
out that first one before you actually have to do something,
this is the best.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
Yeah, I feel it. Yeah, every time, so.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
You come back after a long time away, you get it.
Impressive victory. When did you hear you were getting the
championship opportunity? And was it music to your ears?

Speaker 6 (11:34):
Like finally, man, yeah, absolutely, because you know, I was trying.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
I was calling for the fight like earlier, because I
was I was healthy, and so I was thinking maybe
I could fight at the sphere. That didn't ended up happening,
you know, So then they were like, oh, you know,
she's busy this and that, and so then I was
like okay. Then you know, they did the Verna fight,
and then they're like, oh, scratch out bite, you know,
and then Senna, now we're here, and I mean, man,

(12:01):
it was It was awesome just because I felt like,
you know, I deserve that title shot.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
You know.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
So, I mean, I number one in the world, I'm undefeated,
so she's already beat everybody else at the top of
the division, So why not fight me?

Speaker 2 (12:15):
When you were on the sideline and you're watching the
division and Rose is one of the best, and way
Lee's one of the best, right, and the belts kind
of going around, even Carl Carla got the belt.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
And then remember Carla got the belt again, that was
the cry. That was the worst fight of all time.
Don't do that, I got I love Carla, but no,
I don't want to see that. Dude, sin you believed
a seriously, seriously.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
I remember sitting there with Rogan and we were talking
about me and him and Johnny. We're like, well, they
got to judge something. They have to judge something, right,
and it's.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
Like judge who fight again?

Speaker 2 (12:51):
That was a crazy Don't watch that fight, especially if
you're trying to get ready for something, if you're trying
to prepare to fight way Lee, don't watch that. Like
And I love Carla, like I I was very sad
when she retired, but that was just the worst fight
in history.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
That was worse than Francis and gone with Derek Lewis,
and that was tread.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
When you watch the division and you feel like in
yourself and so many like I mean, so many people
in the position that I sit in now talk Tatiana
is the best.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Damn's gonna be shamped. She's undefeated. She did, she did,
she did.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Was that hard to be watching up on the sideline
just thinking in your mind that you were the best
fighter in that division?

Speaker 6 (13:28):
Yeah? I mean it is hard.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
But again like for me, I'm just like I like,
people are like, man, look what you did to the champion.
You know that you're still they're so lucky that you're out.
And I'm like, yeah, yeah, you know, I understand. And
it's like but I'm not gonna let that like discourage
me or nothing, like yeah, I'm just gonna do what
I have to do and like take care of business.
Like I know, for me, people were like, well, I
don't understand how she got this, like she doesn't deserve it,

(13:53):
this and that, and I'm like, you know, they think
like because everybody was working, and I'm like I was
working too, Like you think that just because I was injured.
I was like what, Yeah, I mean I showed up
every single day. And my it was harder for me
because I think I have it harder than them because
not only am I sidelined, but like I don't have
a they didn't. I decided to do like rehab into

(14:15):
my neck and but of like get surgery. So with
the with the rehab, you don't know when you're gonna
be better. You just have to trust that you're gonna
get better. And with surgery, they're like, oh, six months,
you're gonna be ready, you know, Like I didn't have that.

Speaker 6 (14:27):
I just trusted. I showed up every single day. I
did all the exercises I had to do.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
I did everything that I needed to do to get back,
and then I hurt my knee, so then I had
to do it again.

Speaker 6 (14:36):
And I was like, I couldn't even believe.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
That it was even happening, because if I'd done so
much work, and I was like, man, I thought that.
You know, it's like when you work that hard to
come back to something and then it's almost there and
then you just.

Speaker 6 (14:50):
Kidding, we got to do it again.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Yeah, how You're like, what, but that strengthens you? Hear right?

Speaker 5 (14:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Yeah, this is a mine right to glocer because there's
some dark days when sh is going sideways.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
I've had that.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, some dark days with things going sidewis ultimately way
Lee separates herself from the division. Right. She has proven
now that she, at least over the last year and
a half two years, is the best strangweight in the world.
When you look at her, what do you see in
Joan Way Lee that makes her so special?

Speaker 5 (15:18):
I think for her, you know, she has a strong
work ethic, just like myself. You know, she she's really
really like. She works hard, I can tell, you know,
and you know she has a good gas tank. You know,
she's a very well run and fighter, you know. But
for me, I'm a finisher. Yeah, so I'm gonna go
out there and I'm gonna finish her.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
So when I talk to my when I talk to people,
I talk to my friend Chaise Son, and they wonder,
what about the championship rounds? How does Tatiana handle the
championship rounds? Because there was one fight where you've seen
the tire in the third against Nina Amanda's white. How
do you handle around four and five whenever we really
haven't seen you there, especially with someone like Waylee who

(16:00):
has that championship level of experience and those late.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Rounds in her her back pocket to rely on when
you get there.

Speaker 6 (16:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
No, actually, and then Nina fight, I didn't feel tired
at all. I just I was just I had a
neck injury.

Speaker 6 (16:13):
So I felt like I was just to be honest
with you, I was like, the first two rounds, I'm like, Okay,
I got it.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
I got it.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Then the third round, I'm like, this is really hurt,
and like you know. I'm like, it was really messing
with my head, and I was like, maybe I could
just do footwork.

Speaker 6 (16:26):
All around their kids.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Yeah, I lose.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
I was like just thinking like maybe I could just
do footwork or oud or just kind of get by
because if my neck was like really hurting so bad
and I was like, really.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
Just get Yeah, I was like, just get through the
last round. You already won the first two rounds.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
Like it was like a competitor, like you know when
you're in wrestling and you don't want to get taken
down at the edge.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
It was like that.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
I literally sometimes would look at the clock. You're grabbing
the clinch. You're like, cool, man, don't look at the
clock too, r little because like if you look at
it and it's like still two minutes and forty five seconds,
you like, god, dang it, I'm.

Speaker 6 (16:57):
Like shit, two minute clip footwork, all right, I got this.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Just yeah, I'm glad because I'm glad to hear that
because when we were watching it seemed like because she
was finding a little bit of success, it seemed like
you were uncomfortable in that, like you're a little No.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
I felt fine, No, I just you know, I just
kind of like I should have just stayed engaged.

Speaker 6 (17:19):
I should have just stayed engaged and like that. But
that's something that like I'll learn I learned from you
know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (17:24):
Even like it's like I thought to myself, Oh, you know,
I'm fine, I could just do foot work around here,
but I just should have stayed engaged and aggressive like
I usually am, because that's when I fight my best.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
Your documentary was nice too. It was on Bill you
know what it was on Max. I saw that. Yeah,
it was congratulations. That's ok.

Speaker 6 (17:41):
I appreciate it. That's a big deal for me, though
I didn't want to add two.

Speaker 5 (17:45):
Like you know, I do a lot of sparring rounds
and stuff, and like I actually get better as the
time goes on.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Okay, Yeah, so yeah, I.

Speaker 6 (17:54):
Think that's something that's like a good thing for me.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
I don't know if it's like I get I shake
the cobwebs out and then like the third, fourth, fifth
round them like better.

Speaker 6 (18:02):
It's strange.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (18:04):
So Like in fact, like my coach was doing Punch County.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
He's like, yeah, their last round was the most punches
you've had, and I'm like, damn, Okay, that's good.

Speaker 6 (18:11):
That's good to hear.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Because you know, when you're in the FEEDD fighter and
you're dominated, people try to poke holes.

Speaker 6 (18:16):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
I mean they even did it to Waylee her lap fire,
you know, because Yan had some success, like she dropped
her a couple of times like in the fight, you know,
so I think like people were like, oh man, you know,
like they even did it to her.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
So it's not even like sometimes it's not competitive, but
because you're not used to seeing that person get challenged,
but it feels like it's even bigger.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
Absolutely, you know.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Are you ready for what happens? If you win this
belt on Saturday?

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Your life changes completely? The spotlight girls, everything is just
bigger and better. Like do you ever take a moment
to sit back and think about like the responsibilities that's
gonna come with it being a UFC champion, but the
good and the bad, because like a lot of champions do,
they opened them The world opens up when you got
the belt, and it's not always the best.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
Yeah. No, I mean I think that, you know, I'm
prepared for anything.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
Maybe that's why my time wasn't four years ago, you know,
maybe my time now because I wasn't ready then, and
now I am ready.

Speaker 6 (19:15):
This is my time, and I look forward to proving
that I'm the best in the world.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
And that you know, it's gonna be an amazing story
and I just can't wait to share it with the world.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Yeah, it's gonna be a tremendous fight. I cannot wait
to watch, guys. Tatiana Suarez challenges Wayley this weekend for
the belt. Make sure you tap into everything she's doing,
follow her, subscribe to everything she's doing. She's a fantastic wrestler,
but she'sn't even better fighter, possibly a world champion. You
have see three twelve goes down this week it from Sydney.
Till next time, Mike subscribing. Tell you friends that DC's
got a YouTube channel and I'm checking in with people

(19:49):
like Tatian. Sorry till next time.
