I said, super Fun Time Day. I'm Cavino. That is Rich.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
I hope you had a great Monday night. Let's have
a kick ass Tuesday. Let's enjoy some tacos for lunch.
Speaking of we're gonna play a game today. A game
is sweeping the nation called Chipotle Worker or a w
NBA player. But Hank take we got prizes, we got
giveaways today. So thank you for being here again. I'm
Steve Cavino. That is Rich. Davis Spotty's on the videos
(01:03):
at Covino and Rich. If you want to play along
at home, Danny g Super producing on the phones. Eight
one eight one seven seven five zero nine. It's eight
one eight eight one seven seven five zero nine. Well
also got music and Ryan hanging out with us, and
thank you Fox Sports Radio Nation against CNR and for
Colin on the Herd.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
I think everyone's dragon ass a little bit this week
after that NIC's fourth at July Break, I think everyone's like, dude,
it's Tuesday only.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
What is going on. There's not a lot of sports,
there's not a lot of anything.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Really, millions of people pumped to hear Colin to get
that Tuesday kicking the ass second win, and they're like
Covino and Rich, yes, yes, and I'll tell you what.
Speaking of dragon ass though, Rich, Yeah, of all nights,
I chose last night to start my is it called
a CPAP study? What's it called that sleep test? For
(01:54):
people who snore and don't get a good night's rest.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
I decide anything on your face for the rest of
your life. I'm gonna start sleeping with one of those.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Which screams sexy time in the bedroom if you didn't know.
But you have to take a test. You have to
pass this test first. And I've had a sitting and
I was like, you know, tonight's a good night. And
I was up all night, up all night, like Gilbert
gotfried on USA.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I was up all night. I was up all night.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
With this thing strapped to my finger, seeing if I
qualify for this breathing machine. And I just got to
tell you the most miserable night. So for those of
you that are dragon ass, you don't feel worse than
me right now. However, the caffeine's kicking in and we're
here for the herd. So I'm pumped about that, very
pumped about that, but not as pumped as this Cooper
(02:44):
Flag fella.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Who's Cooper Flag.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
We're gonna tell you all about him. We're gonna talk
about Zach Wilson as a story today. Joey Chestnut is
an American hero. Will tell you why we're gonna play
some games. Like you said, a lot going on. But yeah,
Cooper Flag, I want everyone to think to them right now,
what were you doing when you were seventeen years old?
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Think about that for a second.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Activate the flex capacitor, go back to the nineties or
eighties or whatever the hell you were seventeen and think
what was I doing? Because I'll tell you what you
weren't doing. You weren't schooling the best players in the
NBA and having the world wonder who the hell you are?
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Cooper Flag is this gangly, seventeen year old six foot eight,
two hundred pounds kid from Maine. He's a duke incoming freshman.
He's part of the USA Select team, the US Select
team that scrimmaged against the USA Olympic team the past
three days, and apparently he had a day, and he
(03:43):
had several great days, but he had a day.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
So it does pose that question.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
When you're making three pointers over Anthony Davis, when you
have a putback and your school in bam Adebayo an
all defensive players. When you're hitting jumpers over Drew Holiday,
you're doing big things. You're opening a lot of eyes,
and that's what he's doing against the best of the best,
(04:08):
again as a kid who doesn't even turn eighteen until December.
So how to they and what were you doing at seventeen?
I'll tell you straight up, when I was doing at
seventeen seventeen. I was working at a clothes store that
doesn't even exist anymore, making what was it.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Four twenty five an hour? What was minimum wage back
then in the nineties.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
I remember I worked at Wendy's and I remember it
was five dollars an hour, and I was like, Wow,
Wendy's overpaced obviously.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
I was living at home with my parents. I would
sneak girls in and tell them I lived with some
old people. I rented out the basement. I lived in
the basement of my parents' house. I was driving a
Nissan Sentra A nine.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
I didn't ask what I didn't ask? You were doing
at thirty? I said, what were you doing at seventeen?
Speaker 4 (05:02):
No, no, this is when I was thirty. I upgraded
to Akrola. Yeah. No, no, no, this is seventeen. I
had a ninety three CenTra. I was working at a store,
a clothes store called the Garage, and they were known
for selling brands like chess King, and I mean not
chess King. Chess King was an off brand. They sold
(05:23):
like bum equipment and Levi's and things like that big
Johnson T shirts get you ready for the summertime. So
the Garage on Route twenty two in Union, New Jersey,
That's where I was working. And I had no clue
about where I was going to college, what I was
going to do. I was buying CDs with all the
money I had. I was buying lots of music. But
(05:45):
at seventeen zero direction. Really I was playing sports, obviously
playing baseball, but nothing to this level. This kid might
be the coolest seventeen year old that ever was.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Let me ask you in a moment, Cooper Flag and
seventeen year old knows what a big Johnson T shirt is?
Speaker 3 (06:02):
No, not at all, not at all. By the way,
what happened to big Johnson T shirts? That's an investigation
on its own.
Speaker 5 (06:09):
But you know, you think about what you were doing
at seventeen, and there's so many layers to this Cooper
Flag story, like embracing the moment, living it up, capitalizing
on your opportunity. Because this one from a situation where
day one of scrimmages he showed that wow, I can
hang I you know I could compete day two. Based
(06:29):
on what he did against the best of the best.
People already thinking woh, twenty twenty five draft, it's like,
are you serious? You know, But then again, if you
see this guy competing like that, you know, Duke must
be licking their chops knowing that they got a must
watch guy now because a guy whose name you didn't
know yesterday or the day before, now you know.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
And when college hoop starts.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
What's the number one guy people are going to be
scoping out from game one of the season.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Covino Cooper Flag his job. We open it up to you.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Fox Sports Radio Nation The Herd eight one, eight, one seven, seven,
fives zero nine. Your greatest day today was a good
day for this guy, which was actually what yesterday? So
he had a day in What were you doing at seventeen?
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Now?
Speaker 4 (07:16):
It makes me think of not only what was I
doing at seventeen again, just trying to get my name
in the paper playing sports. That was really the focus, right,
What was your coolest moment? Wearing your jersey to high school?
Wearing your jersey to high school was a cool feeling.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Oh, you know, hoping you got to blurb in the local.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
Paper like Fritch went three for four with two doubles,
Like you were hoping you got that right up in
the local paper.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Yeah, maybe, you know, hanging on the parents refrigerator, Like
what was the big thrill? This guy's playing with the
best of the best. Granted, you gotta figure he's going
all out. He's just straight balling again, trying to open
up some eyes, trying to get some respect. These dudes
are just practicing for the most part, but then when
he starts being dominant, any competitors going to step up.
(08:01):
I'm sure Anthony Davis wasn't happy about it. Steve Kerr
couldn't really speak about it, although he did say that
the select team was bringing it, you know, with all
these young players and G League players. So when I
think of my best days, because this has to go
down in this kid's young life as his best day yet,
I would imagine.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
How bunk is that.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
By the way, Danny g I'm guessing I think that's
draft rules and a current NBA coach can't talk about
a current possible college.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Players hampering mm hm.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
But the fact that Kerk can't even say, you know,
the kid lit it up, like he can't even say
anything is sort of lame, right.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
He just made a generic statement about how they all
played competitive and they were all great competitors. But everybody
was talking about this kid, Cooper Flag. So basically it
might be a kid you never heard of, but today
everybody's talking about him because of this performance. Like how
cool is that to wake up to you're just some
again tall kid out of Maine.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
And by the way, he was always a great player.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Music was telling us before, like he was all everything,
and he was so good.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
He was so bored.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
He had to go to some private school to find
competition at his level in Maine. And it's no surprise
that he's good. Nobody knew he can compete on this level.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
Well, yeah, one day, the average person doesn't know your name.
The next day every sports fan's like, oh, you're a
Cooper Flag. It's like huk to a girl. One day,
she's just a girl on the street in Nashville. The
next day she's making tens of thousands of dollars at
club appearances and people at merchandise and every meme. Now
your parents are seeing the Hawk to a memes.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
But he's always been good, is my point. It's not
like he just out of nowhere is good. It's just
out of nowhere we know him. Was where were his stats?
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Music?
Speaker 6 (09:49):
So in high school, he was the Gatorade Player of
the Year as a freshman in Maine, and then at
the end of his freshman year, he was like, I
need some better competition. So he had to transfer to
an academy school down in Florida that has basically been
the consensus number one overall recruit for the twenty twenty
five class. And now as we see, people are probably
(10:10):
quickly across the NBA getting ready to tank for Cooper Flag.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Yeah, so he was no schlub, but it's got people saying, hmm,
all right, now.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
I've had over a leg for Flag.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Yeah no, yeah exactly. So again, most of us didn't
know this guy. Now everybody's talking about him today. So
it's a two part doozy. Your best day and what
were you doing at seventeen? Because he's got most of
our acts beat by far, by far. My best day,
I would say, because this was what three days of scrimmaging,
(10:46):
So he had a series, right, So I'd say my
best two day span ever was in two thousand and nine,
and I hope I have more great days to come.
But in two thousand and nine, get this, Yankees are
in the World Series. I'm super pump about it. Hell yeah.
And then I'm having a baby, not me, my ex
(11:07):
my exes. I know I might look like it already
had a few cos he's going to be a soccer player.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
He is, but.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
I'm having a baby. The Yankees lose on November first,
I'm like, oh no, they when did they win?
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Do you forget your Yankees birthday? And the Yankees worth?
Speaker 4 (11:31):
The Yankees win the World Series on the third. My
daughter was born on the second, so I was in
the hospital for the second and the third. Those are
my best two days, so great and so grand. I
forgot the dates.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
I was gonna say, you're really, You're that bad at calendar.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
I knew my daughter's birthday, obviously, I was trying to
remember when the Yankees won.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
The Yankees didn't win that day.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
The Yankees won the day after, not the day before,
the day after, So I was like, ah, but two
great days back to back and belly to belly, and
I remember, wow, I'm not sure if it gets better
than this.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
I just became a dad. I was super pumped about it.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
And the Yankees won the World Series and I was
celebrating the World Series win in the hospital, and I
still got those pictures of like, here's me brand new
dad with the baby, good moment, good day, good time.
How about you when it comes to best day ever
or best series, best few days, I.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
Have nothing compared to Cooper Flag or you who doesn't
even remember the days I would say, I mean individual
days like would you say, I mean, everyone's gonna say
what I became a dad or a mom all of those.
I had a little job, the Yankees won the World
Series and I became a dad. Look, we've all we all,
(12:47):
most of us have the ability to become dads. Is
the fact that it happened that same time. Yeah, the
the forty nine Ers almost helped me there because my
son's birthday was on Super Bowl Sunday this year and
the forty nine Ers lost, and I'm a big Niners fan.
I told my wife, I'm like, how cool would be
if the forty nine Ers won the Super Bowl for
(13:09):
the first time since ninety four ninety five when I
was a little teenager on our son's birthday.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Damn, Patrick Mahomes ruined my day.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
So I don't have anything convening, all right, My teams lose,
and being a dad is a generic answer. So I'll
be honest those days where you get the phone call,
no matter what you do for a living, when you
get that call from the boss like hey, we want
to talk, and you get like a big raise or
hey listen, I'll be honest. Top ten top ten moment
has to be when we got the call from the
Fox Sports radio bosses saying, hey, we're making room for
(13:39):
you guys on the full time lineup.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
That was pretty dope. Yeah, we had a cool meeting.
I'll never forget that. Yeah, those are great moments. Fist
pumps in the air for anybody. Great news. And it's funny,
remember from your perspective, because our happiness relies on these
teams and some other cool life moments. But these are
the guys that are actually doing it, Guys like Cooper Flag,
They're actually playing in these games that we're all excited about.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
I mean, people are gonna think back to remember opening
that envelope when they probably don't mail that anymore. Remember
opening the envelope? Is it thick or thin? Based on
did you get admitted to that college?
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Yes, But growing up on the East Coast, I really
didn't apply to many schools, you know. Like I said,
take me back to seventeen. I had zero guidance, man,
zero guidance I know school I was going to. I
had no idea what I was gonna do.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
You didn't apply to a bunch of colleges and get
all the response letters in the mail and all I.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Did, but only the local like only the local ones.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
I'm from again, the East Coast, New Jersey, and I
ended up going to Montclair State University because they had
a decent baseball team.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
At the time, they were national champions. I was like,
all right, I'll do that.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
All I knew at seventeen was baseball and playing music,
and I don't really know much more now, to be honest,
but that was it. So what were you doing at seventeen?
And your greatest day eight one eight eight one seven
seven five zero nine. I'd love to hear Danny G's
greatest day music. Have you ever had a moment that compares?
(15:03):
Probably not, because we're all here in the radio studio, right.
We weren't that great at sports. We just love sports.
But this dude was competing with the best of them.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Danny G.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
You got something, super producer, you know, Rich. We're in
our old studio and I think everybody forgot how to
use it.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
No, what it is is they refurbished this studio, so
it's new equipment in front of some of us.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
I like the feeling of our old studios. Yeah, this
is cool.
Speaker 7 (15:30):
This is where the CNR Extravaganza began on Sunday nights,
on the network.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (15:36):
For me, I would say the greatest day ever was
August fifth, twenty twenty three. CoA was born Future Raider
hashtag future Raider. He's as big as a linebacker, already
about to turn one, and as far as being seventeen.
I know what you're gonna think. You know, how could
my career get any better after this? But I peaked young.
(15:59):
I was already working in radio at seventeen for ninety
eight point three kx K Mix Radio Modesto, Stockton, and uh,
I was like the little doogie howser on the staff.
And then now fast forward to Covino and Rich. Yes,
I peaked then, and my my career has gone downhill
ever since.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Wait, you're DANYG from k Mix. Yeah, sir, he's DADG.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
You know, I think we all have to hold on
to the thought, even if it's just it's just false.
We have to hold on to the thought that we
haven't peaked yet, Like no, no, no, the best is
yet to come. If your day pales in comparison to
Cooper Flags, and for most people it has, you have
(16:46):
to believe somehow to keep you going that no, no, no,
it's just because it hasn't happened yet.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Oh of course I'm still motivated by that. I really am.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
That with not only sports convine. I think about that
with music, not music the producer, like actual music. I
think about that with you see some teenage teeny bopper
on stage, and you're thinking they're like Olivia Rodrigo, like
if you got daughters or kids. Like you see some
young woman on a stage at like Madison Square Garden
(17:18):
or something, You're thinking to yourself, this kid is on
stage in front of twenty thousand people. When I was
sixteen seventeen, I was picking my nose working at Wendy's, Like,
it's amazing how a guy like Cooper Flag come out
of not nowherese As Ryan pointed out, he was a
you know, elite young player in Maine, moved out to Florida.
(17:39):
But the simple fact that you always think about this,
remember the show Pros versus Joe's.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Of course, everyone.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Always wonders, you know, like what if a regular dude
did compete against the like a pro.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
I was a bigger fan of American gladiators. I was like,
I think I could take Nitro. I think I could
do this.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
Yeah, But when you think about like pros Joe's. I know,
Cooper isn't necessarily a Joe, but he is just a
regular seventy year old kid. He's a kidball player. Yeah,
he's still a kid. So it's a funny story.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
He's dominated every step of the way.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
You don't think he's ever daydreams like, hey, what if
I did play against Lebron or ad or Drew Holliday
or any of these guys. He's daydreamed about it. The
opportunity came up, and he held his own and actually
played really well.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
What a great moment for this kid. And that's the goal,
to hold your own. And he went above and beyond.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
And I said it, and I'll say it again, and
it's not to take away and I can't take away
from his moment and the cool story. And that's not
my point. But you have to imagine he's going all out, dude,
and they're very casual about it. They're just there, we're scrimmaging.
We're not trying to get hurt, you know, we're just
going through the motions. And he's pushing them to their limits,
(18:52):
going all out. There's a difference there. There's a difference
between you know, that guy that's going all out and
the guy that's shooting. We could all sort of we
could all sort of relive that to some degree. As
though as you get older, if you ever hit a
basketball court, you're just shooting around. You just want to
shoot around. That's all I want to do, shoot around
and maybe play the old guy role. And I'm not old,
(19:13):
but I'm not trying to get hurt. I'm not trying
to roll an ankle. So I'll play, but i just
want to shoot. Really, I'm not trying to get in
the mix, the k mix with Danny g So my
point is some younger dudes, some younger dudes will roll
up to the court and they're acting like they're in
it to win it, and they're playing real aggressive, and
(19:33):
then they start pushing you to play harder. But you're like,
hold on, slow down. I was just shooting around and
these guys are going all out. That's kind of what's
going on here. On the highest of levels.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
I get your analogy, but you with some you know,
I'll pack aheaded twenty year olds at twenty four our fitness.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
I don't think it's the same thing as Lebron. On
a lower level, these broccoli heads.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
If I'm there shooting, these broccoli heads roll up and
they start wanting to play because they're twenty something in
aggressive right, I'm forty something. I'm just hanging. These guys
are in that mindset and in that mode. They're not
trying to really compete right now. They're just scrimmaging. And
you got this young broccoli headed dude. You got this
seventeen year old kid playing like his career depends on it.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
There is a difference. I just want to point that out.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
I gotta ask, since we are filling in for the herd,
who wins a three point shootout? You were Jason McIntyre.
You've seen his instagram. That dude's always booping.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
The competitive side of me says I'll win in anything.
That's just me being delusional. Way if you're a hand
in the face or not. Because Covino's great when there's
no defense.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Is he defending me?
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Because then he'll probably win if there's no defense, Yeah,
I'll take them.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
If people don't know, Cavino uncontested seventy five percent from
three point range contested seven percent.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Yeah, but when I have an alpaca boy, some young
kid with his broccoli haircut in front of my face. Yeah,
then it's a little different. So I'm just pointing again
the obvious. But i want to make it clear. I
doubt that these Olympic caliber players, these superstars that we
know like Anthony Davis, were playing all out the way
this kid was. Maybe at some point they did, but
(21:15):
I'm sure they weren't expecting all that from him. But
props to him. Again, what were you doing? And tell
us about your greatest day ever? Plus, I know you
want to get to this mystery anniversary.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
Rich, Ah, Yeah, because you know what one year ago,
actually we missed it.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
It was yesterday.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Shame on you, Shame on me. An anniversary in the
world of sports and entertainment went down yesterday.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
And I'll let you know what it is next.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
And it sort of changed the whole trajectory of the
sports world. I'll explain this is a big one. We'll
talk about it next. Cavino Rich hanging in for Colin
on The Herd. It's Fox Sports Radio More.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Next, be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
We got Big Sexy Ryan on the ones and twos,
Danny G Super producing on the phones eight one eight
one seven seven five zero nine Music's got your updates
in a few minutes. Spots on the videos at Covino
and Rich. The CNR show in for Colin on the
Herd always a pleasure. Last week we did the Dan
slam Our, first ever Dan Slam four shows for Dan Patrick.
(22:22):
Normally we're on two to four out here in the
West on Fox Sports Radio five to seven on the East.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
But love filling in for Colin.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
I think it's wild because every day I'm just like you.
I watch Collin's clips on social media. I listened to Colin,
so when when we filled in for him, it's like, yo, dude,
we're filling in for the guy that I actually admire.
So hey, pretty fun. CNR in for Colin on the Herd.
Now I'm down in Texas Cavino, just visiting friends and family.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
And that's why you got that cowboy hat on right, yeah?
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Yeh man, Yeah, that's why you're wearing those flip flops
with the spurs.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
You saw those. I saw it.
Speaker 5 (22:57):
So we're talking about Cooper Flag. We're done with that.
But this kid lit it up seventeen. He's gonna be
going to Duke. We now know who the number one
NCAA men hoops player that everyone's gonna have their eyes on,
and that's Cooper Flag.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
And you know Ryan Musick.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
He told us that he played in Maine, was so good,
needed to find competition, so his family picked up and
went to Florida.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
Right.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
The one thing I've been talking to the most about
with friends in Texas, all the kids sports and how
they're out of control. Every one of my wife's friends,
my wife's from here, all her friend's parents. Yeah, we're
traveling for soccer and basketball, and my one kids on
this team and oh we have travel baseball every weekend.
It is like the common denominator amongst people with kids
(23:42):
that are young or teenagers. It's a nightmare. It's too much.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
It's it's tearing to part families. It really is.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Well, that is the sentiment. That's the the thing we
keep hearing amongst our friends and on social media is
that people are going broke, trying to pay for it,
trying to keep up with the Jones aut trying to
keep up with the Kardashians. It's expensive, trying to get
all these personal coaches and trainers and camps and paying
for all the traveling and everything else. And you got
(24:10):
one parent with this kid, another parent with the other kid,
and they're fighting over money and how to pay for
this stuff, and it's causing this crazy amount of stress,
extra stress in these relationships, and families are really struggling
to get by. And think about it rich from a
parental perspective, you don't want your kid to fall behind
(24:30):
because you're not making the money and all the other
kids are paying for all these coaches and camps and
everything else. So you're gonna do everything you can and
make sure your kid keeps up or else he's out.
It's a really tough situation to be in.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
You see a lot of elite athletes that are in
the pros now and some of them say, oh, I
didn't even start that sport until I was fifteen. So
those their exceptions, you know, and that's why they're great.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Yo.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Last night, I'm having dinner with our friends Nick and Lindsey,
and Nick was telling me that his son is getting
really good. He's on a travel soccer club. Another parents suggested,
you know, you really need to get him a nutritionist
and a conditioning coach.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
His kid's like nine.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
I'm like, what, So now we're gonna talk about so
what were you doing at nine?
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Because I wasn't worrying about that though.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
But you know what, today is the one year anniversary
checked that yesterday was we missed it. Shame on you,
shame on me, shame on Danny g and everyone. So
yesterday was the one year anniversary of a moment. I
say this in a light way. I hope you could
interpret that yesterday was the one year anniversary of a
moment that changed the football landscape and the pop culture
(25:37):
landscape forever.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
I think I sort of hinted enough. What do you
think it is? A year ago today? Your ago today?
Speaker 4 (25:45):
I mean, there's enough bozos in his studio where we
should be able to figure it out. Danny j Any
ideas music. I think music's got it. He's like, ah,
no football, something to do with Taylor Swift?
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Oh? Is that it? One year ago?
Speaker 5 (26:02):
Today was the day where Travis Kelcey tried to give
his number to Taylor Swift and it didn't work. And
then do you remember Aaron Andrews got involved and said, hey,
you should give him a chance. But today was the
day where Travis Kelcey, remember he publicly said, yeah, I
tried to slip Taylor Swift my number and it didn't work.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
How was a year ago? Huh? So the last year of.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
Our lives has been inundated with Swifties and Kelsey and
that relationship and everything.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
So so that means he'd been together for about a year,
because wasn't the story, the real story that he just
hadn't told the public yet that he was already making moves.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
They apparently started dating a month or so after that day,
So they're coming up on a year. And uh, not
to be all pop culture boy on you, but did
you see the other day she sang a song directed
at him and he was crying in the stadium.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
I did see that. Yeah, I wasn't.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
I agree with Danny g And by the way, you
think we should be all ashamed that we didn't know
that I was joking, But I just you know, we've
been doing we do the show every day, and think
of how many annoying updates like you see, you know
someday night football featured Taylor Swift or hey, they moved
the Chiefs game, and we even talked about how the
schedule this year is like some They admitted that they've
(27:18):
accommodated Taylor, Swift and the Chiefs. So it's been one
year since Taylor rejected Kelsey's first move. As ridiculous as
that sounds, you're right, Rich. It gave us so much content,
so many things to talk about, so many discussions about
how many times they were showing her at the game.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Oh, the narrative changed so many times. Remember initially it
was who gives a crap about this stupid pop star?
And then it turned into if you hate Taylor and Travis,
then you're just a jerk.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
That like, the narrative changing, lating so definitely worthy of acknowledgment.
And the fact that he was crying, Eh, you know what,
Vatos don't cry, but we do pout hard. Right, we're
only allowed thirty how many thirteen thirteen thirteen tiers?
Speaker 5 (28:05):
Well, isn't that song that you say you're you're a
Mexican dude. So then you say ninety eight tier drops
in your lifetime?
Speaker 6 (28:10):
Right?
Speaker 3 (28:10):
How much?
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Six ninety six tier drops were allowed per lifetime? So
you got to use them wisely. But every once in
a while, something stupid will hitch you. So I can't
really get on him about that. Every once in a while,
you're sitting there and something dumb will get you and
you're like, what, So when you got Taylor Swift singing
to you in front of all these people and you
realize that year's gone by and it's been an up
(28:33):
and down roller coaster of love, I'm not gonna hate
on him for that. In fact, I well, I'm you know,
you become a dad, Danny g who's a tough, tough dude.
I bet you this time is where you saw commercial
as something reminded you of your kid, and you got
a little teary eyt.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
It hits the best of us. I took my kids
to see Despicable Me over the weekend, and there was
a part in.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
The movie where I'm like, this is this is beautiful?
Speaker 4 (28:57):
Man, No, don't even admit that. By the way, that
movie nation right now. So all right, well, hey, happy
anniversary to Travis and Taylor almost anniversary.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
Now, before we get to the headline news, let me
just say I'm looking at the feedback already, a ton
of feedback of people already saying, my kids' sports are
ruining my life. Matt in Minnesota just hit us up saying, well, dude,
is someplace travel baseball.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
It's really tough for parents, like I said, to not
enroll their kids because by not enrolling their kids in
these camps and in these tutorials or whatever it may be,
you're letting your kid fall behind. That's the fact the
other kids are getting better while they stay the same.
So even my sister's kids out here in Los Angeles,
(29:45):
she's not rolling in the money. So I'm like, look,
if you need help, I'll help you, like Uncle Steve
has to help out, just to make sure the kids
are keeping up with the other kids out here in
Los Angeles. Otherwise, you feel as a parent you're not
doing enough to provide for your kid or give them
the tools that they need to keep up with the
other kids.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
It's a terrible situation to be in. It really is.
You're like uncles. You're like Uncle Scrooge mcdonalan. I don't
want to see you. I don't want to see my
nephew fall behind.
Speaker 5 (30:14):
But one last thought, and then again, well I want
to hit some Herdline news with our dude Ryan when
we were kids. And again, I never want to sound
like the old guy. Like when we were kids, we
played kicked the cairn. I'm just saying, well, we were kids,
you played basketball, football, baseball, you did all the things
you did. You did travel team, but travel team was
like sort of local like you did the All Stars.
(30:36):
Do you remember traveling state to state to state? Our
buddy Mauser who lives in Cincinnati. That dude is in
a different state every weekend with his son who plays hockey, Sir.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Not even close. I rarely left the state, you kidding me.
A trip for me with the family was to Sessime
place and what was that, Pennsylvania. I never left in
New Jersey, let alone for you know, some sort of
travels sport. Of course, we played other towns in other
counties and other places in New Jersey, but rarely left
(31:07):
the state. So it's a different world and it is
terran families apart. That's not even a joke. It just
puts so much stress. And imagine if you have more
than one kid playing on a different team.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
Well, the dude that host American Ninja Warrior, not matt
Iceman Akbar. The other dude went on a social media
rant a couple months ago that was fantastic about how
he played pro sports, and this is absurd. He's like,
kid should not be playing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
Sunday with practices and traveling his.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Stay time with your family.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
Not exactly, he was saying, you know, Sundays are for rest,
Sundays are for family. It shouldn't be all weekend long,
especially if you're a hardworking couple. If you're a hardworking parent,
you got Monday through Friday. You're breaking your ass, You're
at work, you're being hassled and hoffed, and then you
got to take your kid to practice throughout the week.
Saturday you're running around like an idiot, traveling all over
(31:59):
the place. Sunday you gotta say, leave me alone. Sunday
has to be for the family to balance out all
that craziness throughout the rest of the week. Otherwise, when
do you have time for family? That's the thing. So
he's trying to make a stance, and I'm all for
that because I love I love when there's nothing to
do on my calendar, and if that's Sundays, especially for
(32:19):
again parents with kids on travel leagues, it should be
that way. Like Nope, that's that's day for prayer, this
day for family, this day for running errands, that's day
for just dinner around the table, talking about your week,
because that's what we're losing and that's why families are
struggling as a result.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
You don't have any of that time.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
I already told my kids the minute I realized they're
not going pro none of.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
This is this ends.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
Yeah, Hey, hey, do I get it? Do I get
an inkling that you might have beat?
Speaker 2 (32:49):
So?
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Is there a scholarship in the works? Not done.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
It's a little bit of a relief when your kid
comes up to here and they're like, yeah, you know
these vocal lessons or these acting lessons or art lessons
or whatever it is that they're with basketball coach.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
I don't like them.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
It's kind of a relief because you're like, all right, well,
then I could save me four hundred five hundred bucks
a month. And that's a terrible way to think, but
that's the truth. You're like, hey, kid, be honest, because
don't waste my money.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Oh sweet, you're not gonna be the next Selena Gomez. Perfect.
I mean, sorry, kid, because Dak's get you heard my news.
Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
No, no, this is the herd Line news.
Speaker 6 (33:33):
What's going on, guys, great to be with you today.
Let's turn our attentions to the world of the NFL.
It was the boot scene around the world yes late
last week a picture of Dak Prescott enjoined the offseason
in Mexico. When it picture surfaced of Prescott in a
walking boot, of course, as quarterback of America's team, people
lost their collective minds on social media. Well Dak Prescott
(33:56):
today here he is addressing the walking boot controverty.
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Honestly, I'm getting older. It's the same ankle right that
that that snapped and had a nasty surgery on four
years ago.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
So a couple of hard days of.
Speaker 8 (34:07):
Training and you know, you get a little sort and
then you're going on a fishing trip and you want
to protect it and and make sure that things don't
get worse. So literally, it's absolutely not do That's why
it's want to say people people are reaching trying to
make things that they aren't. I'm getting older, have to
take care of my body, have to be smart and
if I can take precautions and lessening something about putting on.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
A boot, I'm gonna do it. And so I'm sorry
that it could calls such a world. There you go,
nothing to see here, no big deal. I don't buy it.
It's a precautionary boot. Well hold on, could be no.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Maybe do you think Bobby the brain heenan had a
neck brace for more than precaution or for all those years?
Speaker 4 (34:41):
I mean, I always thought he was severely hurt. Yeah,
I took that serious always when Bobby the Brain wore
the neck brace. But you're buying into that precautionary boot.
Nothing to worry about. Who voluntarily? Where's that ridiculous thing?
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I mean? Then again, kids wear crocs, so I've seen worse.
That's true. Well, we'll wrap up with this one. You're
gonna like this one.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
Rich NFL insider Jeremy Fowler pulled nearly eighty front office executives, coaches,
and scouts to rank the top running backs in the NFL.
Right now, here's the top five, coming in at number five,
Jonathan Taylor number four, Saquon Barkley number three, Nick Chubb
number two, Breise Hall number one, Christian McCaffrey of.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Course, of course, and he's coming off his wedding to
the beautiful.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
You know who I want to party after seeing that wedding,
not only all the beautiful models that Olivia Coppole hangs with.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
But Greg Olsen looks like that guy party.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Oh yeah, he looked like he was having the best time.
He definitely had a tie around his head. There was
definitely a circle around him at the wedding, at the reception,
he was definitely doing the running man.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Without a doubt. All Right, any others orright, you want
to we can move along. What do you want to do?
Speaker 6 (35:55):
We'll hit one more here and we look at the
NBA Jason Tatum preparing to play with Team USA and
the Paris Olympics on the heels of winning his first
NBA championship. Did winning a title finally bring an end
to all the talk and doubt about Tatum? Well, he says, yeah,
it's pretty much over a quote, just being the topic
of discussions, so many debates, so many debates. Can I
lead a team and my top five player? Still a
(36:16):
lot of things I guess that can debate, But now
something they can't say or debate. I've won a championship,
having that under my belt, the conversations, whatever people want
to say, but they'll always have to refer to me
as an NBA champion.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Oh yeah, thank you music.
Speaker 5 (36:31):
What's what's what the new haircut people are talking about?
Jason Tatum's if you have a new style fate or something.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
It's just a tight cut, that's all, just short, short
and tight. Yeah, not bad. Thank you music, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
heard Line news.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
All right, well coming up, we got we got some
NBA we're going to talk about. Also, the NFL less
than a month away, and there is a reason to
be hyped about tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
If you don't know what happens tomorrow, we will let you.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
Know next right here on Fox Sports Radio, Cavino Rich
and for Colin Howard Coward on the Herd.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neonon Eastern non A em Pacific.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Paually Fools go ahead with Tony Foosco.
Speaker 9 (37:15):
Yeah, as everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award
winning Polly and Tony Fosco show.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (37:19):
But instead of us telling you how great we are,
here's how Dan Packrick described us when he came on
our show.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. What are you doing? We
were interrupting our promo.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally out of context.
Speaker 9 (37:35):
Oh yeah, Well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Let me put this into context. Shut up.
Speaker 9 (37:42):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Tony Fusco
Show on I Art Radio, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Yee.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
When I say back, I mean back here on the Herd,
the c and our show in for Colin on the Herd,
and back in our old studio, in our old studio
which is now our cow Heard Filling studio. I guess
I'm Steve Cavino out here in LA with Danny g
Ryan Music and Spotty Boy Dicky Tejas out there hop
Along Dickie in Texas for the summertime. You're riding any
(38:16):
rivers this weekend, you know what.
Speaker 5 (38:19):
That's the lifestyle that here, floating rivers and just chilling out.
And by the way, for people new to us, my
name is not Dicky Tejas, you know, or hop Along
Dickie or anything you call me. But hey, you know what,
I'll take the names while I'm here visiting some family.
But Covino and Rich and for the Herd, what do
we learned so far today? Cavino, you got to embrace
that moment. And Cooper Flagg did that playing with NBA players.
(38:43):
Now everyone's gonna be watching him. On Duke we talked about.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
The story of the day right now. As of now,
he's the story of the day for sure.
Speaker 5 (38:50):
And kids sports are dominating our wallets and time, and
I want to talk about something that is on tomorrow now.
I know tonight you're probably gonna be watching Hard Knocks, right,
the Giants preseason. I feel like there's such a boring
team that I gotta I gotta convince myself to watch
(39:10):
that because the Giants have zero Injurgue.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
For me, I'm watching it and it's good. It's a
great show. It's a great show regardless. So yeah, I'm
definitely checking out this episode two tonight, right, Danny g
Hard Knocks tonight. Yesterday was the premiere of the The Bachelorette.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Did you watch that? I did? I hope by myself,
and no, it was actually pretty good. It's gonna cry
like Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
No, no, hell no, it's gonna suck eventually rich, but
I was. I was pleasantly surprised because I always like
to size myself up and be like, how would I
act if some dude treated me that way? Like some
guy went up to this this other guy, he's like, yeah,
how about you get up because I want to talk
to her. He's like, I just sat down. He's like yeah,
but it's my turn. I like, how would you react
(39:57):
in that situation? You know, I think that's insane. But yeah, anyway,
I always look forward to what's on TV, and tonight
it's Hard Knocks and if you missed out on The
Bachelorette premiere, catch up on it.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
Well, tomorrow is the big one. Because we all love quarterback.
Last year you got you gotta look into the lives
of some of our NFL favorites. You actually ended up
really liking Patrick mahomes More, which stinks because he's so
good you want to hate him.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
But and cousins, you realize what a nerd he was,
and it was endearing. You're like, this guy shops at Target.
He's wearing good Fellow clothing brand. Nothing wrong with it,
it's fantastic, But he's a quarterback In the NFL, he's
a Goonberger.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
That's Sam's club. Remember it was Sam's club.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
You know, you got to know these guys on a
more personal level, and it made you appreciate them even more.
I think everybody loved Patrick Mahomes. You just loved him
a little more. You appreciated his relationship. I think you
really got to see what Cousins was all about. That's
the fun of it though.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
And truthfully, we were like, eh, Marcus Mariotor, he's all right.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Like no one like fell in love with the Mariota story.
I love or hate it.
Speaker 5 (41:02):
Yeah, But tomorrow Receiver starts on Netflix. Perfect because football
starts in a month, and it is like it just
changes every habit you have. I've always told men and
women you got to date someone a full year before
you get serious with them, because you have to see
how they act throughout all four seasons of sports. Because
(41:24):
if my wife didn't know me until a football season,
she'd be like, all right, he watches the mad to
watch a little NBA here and there football, I'm a
different man. It's like, I don't know if you turn
a switch on to where it's like, but NFL is
like a different beast.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
For me, I'm so invested.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
NFL is a different beast period. I will admit that.
Everybody knows that. But I also think you're extra pumped
because you're not invested in baseball the way you used
to be.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
I don't know why that is. The Mets will do
that to you. Yeah, no, I get it.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
But like, even though the Yankees had this twenty game
slide in their terrible and it's the worst, most uninspiring
baseball I've ever seen, like, I'm still way invested. So
not to say I'm not excited about football, but I'm
still very excited about baseball at the moment.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
I'm also mad at myself because I ordered a Mets
Grimace shirt online and I'm like regretting it.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
Ah, yeah, I'm sorry. I feel like I missed the
boat because I'm the one that has to look at it.
You just got to put it on.
Speaker 5 (42:26):
But tomorrow starts receiver, and I'm really excited about this
because again, football starts in a month and I'm a
Niners fan. So you got Debo, you got George Kittle
and a bunch of other stars. We'll go over receiver next.
Covino rich In for Colin on the hurd hang tight
